A Study On Worcester Polytechnic Institute
Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), founded in 1865, is a private higher education institute that is
dedicated towards science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. There are 75 departments that
are currently active at WPI. The departments consists of undergraduate and graduate research along
with supporting departments such as the Library, Admissions, Sports Recreation just to name a few.
There are over 6,000 active students and about 2518 employees at WPI of which only 480 of them are
faculty members, professors of practice, or instructors.
At WPI in order to buy anything for the department they have to use an out dated purchasing system
that wastes a lot of time to get a simple order placed. When a department wants to place an order for
any supply whether its simple office supplies, lab supplies or lab equipment it can involve many
tedious steps. For example, in the Chemical Engineering Department where Felicia currently works, a
professor or student will submit an electronic Purchase Order sheet which indicates quantities, prices,
descriptions and any other pertinent information such as a needed by date or coupon codes and/or
quote numbers. From there Felicia or her coworker (also a purchasing agent) will visit a specific
vendor site and order exactly what s indicated. In order to do any kind of comparison shopping other
individual vendor sites would also need to be visited but if a purchasing agent is not familiar with
where to get a specific product

Apocalypse Now Essay
Apocalypse Now is a film produced by Francis Coppola in 1979 about the Vietnam war. The film was
based off of the novel, Heart of Darkness , and is the story of an Army Captain, Captain Willard, and
his mission to hunt down and terminate Colonel Walter Kurtz. The reasoning for sending Willard to
kill one of his fellow Americans is due to the fact that Kurtz has become unstable and has been
operating against his orders with the Montagnard army and committing murder. Kurtz has gone insane
during the war and his methods are thought of as unsound and he needs to be taken care of. Captain
Willard s joins the crew of a Navy patrol boat heading down the Nung River on the way to Cambodia
to carry out his mission to terminate Colonel Kurtz. During ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Everyone that Willard talks to seems shaken up and not stable. After seeing the brutal scene of war
going on at the outpost the crew starts having second thoughts about continuing with Willard and
some of the crew gets killed. After realizing that all hope with the men is gone Willard and the crew
finally find the camp where Kurtz is operating. When arriving the crew is shot at by arrows from
natives that are now under the command of Kurtz and the sight of dead bodies everywhere and heads
of dead men is what the crew sees when pulling up. Before Willard gets off the boat he orders Chef,
one of his crew members, to call in an airstrike on the position if he doesn t come back in time. The
natives that are under command of Kurtz grab Willard and drag him through the mud and throw him
in a cage. While Willard is in the cage Kurtz throws Chef s head into the cage and this shows how the
war has turned Kurtz into a monster and is no longer sane. After being around Kurtz for a few days
Willard learns that the war has really affected Kurtz horribly. Kurtz is no longer the man he used to be
and has gone completely insane and mad. Eventually, Willard keeps his head straight and carries out
the mission by terminating

Comparing The Epic Gilgamesh And Navajo Flood Myth
Myths were created to explain the inexplicable, and to emphasize the power of a God or Goddess.
There are some myths that are part of religious traditions that are passed down from generation to
generation. Flood myths were most likely created to scare people or to tell people how God or Gods
gave them a do over. Despite bearing some minor similarities the differences between the Bible, The
Epic Gilgamesh, and Navajo flood story are clear.
In each of these stories there was a great flood. In the flood story in the Bible the purpose was to kill
all air breathing animals and all the sinful humans that lived on land. In the Bible Noah was told to
build an ark and take his family and two of each animal with him. The flood story in the Epic of
Gilgamesh had a very similar reason but the Gods were meaning to kill human and animal. Ea tells
Utnapishtim to build a boat and take only himself and two of each animal, but he ends up taking his
workers, family, and a lot of things that he was not suppose to. In the Navajo flood story the flood was
not to kill all of mankind, it was to get the sea monsters baby back. Unlike the first ... Show more

In the Bible the reason God sent the flood was because he saw that there was a lot of sinful things in
the world and he was upset. He saw that Noah and his family were the only ones that stayed true to
want God wanted in his people. In the Epic of Gilgamesh the Gods and Goddesses saw that the people
in the earth were evil and they decided that they wanted to completely restart the world and kill every
human and animal. Ea went against the other Gods and told Utnapishtim in a dream to build a boat
because he saw something in Utnapishim that was not in other people. In the Navajo flood story the
Gods did not send the flood to kill the people or to restart the world. The flood happened in this story
because the coyote stole the sea monsters baby, and the sea monster wanted his baby

Criticism Of A Cyborg Manifesto
In the latter half of the twentieth century society, culture and science evolved visions and capability

Cyborgs are a new segment that will change the landscape of marketing. Say goodbye to the old
school day in the digital life persona. We re about to witness a complete shift in how advertisers can
reach these augmented consumers. This is when people will always have a digital billboard in front of
them or attached to them. This is when consumers will have so much information at their fingertips
that brands will have no choice but to be fully transparent about everything they do.
Of course, there s a certain institutional resistance to cyborgism as there is to most revolutionary shifts
in society. Technophobics are predicting a world of constant distraction, greater rebellion due to
information overload, cyber hacking, and even WiFi radiation based diseases because of
electromagnetic sensitivity.

The Three Types of Annoying Shoppers
Tires squeal across the hot asphalt; exhaust fumes fill the air. Innocent shoppers leap to safety as cars
circle the neighborhood grocery store lot in search of the ideal parking spot. Engines revving.
Adrenaline rushing. The driver s sole mission is to obtain a white lined rectangle of pavement before
entering the race known as shopping. As a safety precaution, competent and considerate shoppers
should be aware of the distinct character traits of the three annoying types of shoppers: Hurry Harry,
Suburban Sally, and Picky Pete. Knowledge of their parking lot to checkout stand habits increases the
chance of avoiding a head on collision.

Words are finger painted in the dust on the back window above the bumper stickers declaring, My
child is an honor student and Vacation at Disneyland. Sticky, diapered youngsters spill from the van to
scramble for a rusty cart which desperately needs a front end alignment. Suburban Sally, in a loose
sweatsuit and pink rollers, unravels a grocery list equal to any childÕs letter to Santa. She skillfully
maneuvers the cart through the maze of shoppers, braking without warning, to comparison shop or to
threaten her loud bunch of food guzzlers. With the strength of a two ton truck, she steers her cart to the
finish line. As the cashier rings up her purchases, it is time for her to make one last lap around the
store for a forgotten item. Customers sigh as she pulls out coupons and rebates to offset the sticker
price. She writes a check and calculates the difference before leaving. A good set of brakes and plenty
of tabloids to read are necessary when shopping behind Suburban Sally.
In comparison to her absent minded habits, Picky Pete, the third type of annoying shopper, appears
flawless. Sunlight shines off his latest BMW parked across three spaces farthest from the store; his
political statements boldly expressed on the shiny chrome bumper: Don t blame me, I voted for Bush

Summary Of John Winthrop s A Model Of Christian Clarity
John Winthrop was born around the 1500 s in England which at the time had corruption due to
overpopulation and not enough money. He decided that it needed to be more peace against prosecution
of religion and joined a group called the Puritans. He and his group decided that they should be the
ones to have a safe community as Puritans. He and his fellow people set out on a voyage where a book
was written called A Model of Christian Clarity. For example, A Model of Christian Clarity says that
All men being thus (by divine providence) ranked into two sorts, rich and poor; under the first are
comprehended all such as are able to live comfortably by their own means duly improved; and all
other are poor according to the former distribution (Winthrop 178). This means that the Puritans
should be able to live the way they choose whether it be religion or rich/poor. He also emphasized
helping people and not wanting anything in return. He also wanted to emphasize that the land should
not be based on status and that everyone should help each other to have a more Puritan life. Winthrop
believes that everyone should live a more Christian life and have compassion to the poor if you are
wealthy by selling all of your things soon in order for them to eat. In A Model of Christian Clarity ,
Winthrop concludes with Deuteronomy 30 which says Beloved, there is now set before us life and
food, death and evil, in that we are commanded this day to love the Lord our God, and to love one
another,

The System Of Criminal Trial Essay
4.6(2) Adversary system
The system of criminal trial as mentioned or directed by the Code is the adversary system based on the
accusatorial method . In this system the prosecutor representing the State (or the people) accuses the
defendant (the accused person) of the commission of some crime; and the law requires him to prove
his case beyond reasonable doubt. The law also provides fair opportunity to the accused person to
defend himself. The judge, more or less, is to work as an umpire between the two contestants.
Challenge constitutes the essence of adversary trial and truth is supposed to emerge from the
controverted facts through effective and constant challenges . Experience has shown that adversary is
by and large dependable for the reconciliation of public and private interest i.e. public interest in
punishing the criminals and private interest in preventing wrongful convictions.
4.6(3) Section 304 of Code of Criminal Procedure: Legal aid to accused at State expense in certain
cases:
Most of the accused persons are poor and uneducated. They cannot afford to engage lawyers for their
defence, nor do they have any legal knowledge and professional skill to safeguard their interests
themselves. Therefore, though the adversary system predicts equal legal rights and opportunities to the
parties to present their respective cases before the court, such legal rights and opportunities would in
practice operate unevenly and harshly, affecting undesirably the poor accused

Superiority In A Separate Peace
Superiority comes to light in John Knowles ________ novel, A Separate Peace, as readers delve deep
into the emotions of Gene Forrester, the passive protagonist who narrates the story. As a smart student
and potential valedictorian, Gene sees his roommate Finny, a charismatic and popular athlete, as a
direct threat to his academic success. Many times while Gene studies, Finny encourages him to
partake in distracting activities that Gene disapproves of. One day while jumping from a tree into a

Gene s action seems a partial accident, it truly stems from Gene s deep urge for vengeance on Finny.

old men (107/115). Although the war prowls around at Devon and damages souls like a savage beast,
Finny s reluctance to accept such a violent act reveals his humanitarian effort to truly keep peace
within his community, school, and country. Finny s innocence also manifests when he remains

The Crisis And The Prospects For Ifis
Korea s IMF Crisis and the Prospects for IFIs
In 1997, the Thai baht came under speculative attack from international investors and the Thai
government was eventually unable to support its currency peg. Due to the interconnected nature of the
global economy, contagion occurred and the problems affecting Thailand spread to countries such as
Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and South Korea. This event came to be known as the Asian
Financial Crisis in the West. However, in South Korea it is known as the IMF, as misguided policies of
the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led to a deep and more painful recession, inequality and an
gutted the nation s middle class. Below is an overview of the IMF s rescue of Korea in 1997/1998, a
description of my opinion on the situation, and my opinion of the fairness and effectiveness of
international financial institutions (IFIs) in general.
The IMF offered assistance to South Korea in December of 1997, but misguided conditions attached
to the loans hurt the country. The IMF intended help avoid mass defaults on dollar denominated loans,
and fight inflation that was severely affecting the economy of Korea (and other countries).
Importantly, the crisis hit Korea after what was one of the most spectacular rises in wealth ever
witnessed in history. In the three decades prior to the crisis, Korea came to be known as an Asian Tiger
economy due to its fast and strong rise. In fact, the Korean economy was relatively healthy at the

Stephen Grover Cleveland Research Paper
Stephen Grover Cleveland was born March 18, 1837 in the small village of Caldwell, New Jersey. For
Grover s parents, Reverend Richard Falley Cleveland and Ann Neal, supporting a family with nine
kids was never easy. The Cleveland s ended up having to move to Fayetteville, New York when
Grover was at the age of four. After the move young Stephen s name did not stick long as he began
being called Grover. After nine years in Fayetteville the clevelands then moved to Clinton, New York
for another job relocation for Grover s dad. This move was hard for Grover, being fourteen at the time,
as he had to completely start over with little to no way to communicate with his old friends. Over the
next couple years the struggles for the Cleveland family continued as Grover s father was in very
delicate health, putting Grover s dreams of going to college at a halt. In 1853 the remaining of the
Cleveland s kids moved away from Grover to a small village called Holland Patent. Three weeks later
his father died, shattering Grover s dreams even more and causing him to help support the ... Show

Stereotypes Of Reality TV Shows
Diversity is everywhere. Is it really everywhere? Even on our television shows? Many would beg to
differ. Throughout the course of television history, we see television ranging from documentaries to
drama to reality. As there is drama and comedy on our screens there isn t a healthy range of races or
ethnicities throughout TV shows. In 2017, we live in an America with over millions of people of
different backgrounds, but that does not seem to reflect how it is represented on television shows. The
portrayal of diversity on our television screens isn t shown as much as it is seen throughout America,
thus creating stereotypes of multiple minorities and unflattering perceptions from less educated
viewers. Reality TV is a hot contender regarding the number of minority groups seen. Stereotypes are
already made based on what others believe, however television shows create an even deeper
stereotype of minority groups. Reality TV shows like The Jersey Shore... rely on stereotypes of
minority groups for entertainment. Careful editing exaggerate these stereotypes and help producers
create the story they want to tell...The outrage expressed by some Italian Americans over MTV s
Jersey Shore marks a late in coming epiphany about reality TV programs... (Braxton). We see that
creators of well known TV shows rely on the received idea of certain minority groups, in this case it s

High School Transcript
Should transcripts reflect a student? Stereotypes, unfair justifications, what is college really about?
Colleges now, base their students approval through a sheet of paper with grades! If you were to ask
any college or any student, they would tell you that students are admitted into certain colleges based
on their high school transcript. A transcript reflects a student s grades, but it does not reflect his
thoughts, ideas, or how intelligent he really is. A lot of people may disagree that a transcript doesn t
describe the student. They think that if a student works hard, he should get what he deserves. If they
take an advanced placement course, then the student should be able to show it off on their high school
transcript. As well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe the student was forced to take the Advanced Placement class, while the other student had the
choice to take the course. There may also be students in their Advanced Placement class that were
struggling and couldn t pass the class on their own, so they decided to use another students work.
Should cheaters still be allowed into a better college because they ended up with another students
grade? Or should the student that worked for all his grades in every single class and took time out of
everyday to dedicate to school be admitted? I myself have had a personal experience with AP classes
and question if they truly mean that you re at a higher level than other students. In high school, I had
an AP Social Studies class, and one of my friends had the normal Social Studies class. Everyday after
class I would ask him Hey, what did you guys do in Social Studies today? Every single time his
answer would match the learning activities that we had done in class that same day. If we re doing the
same activities in class, then should it be considered Advanced Placement? High schools just want to
make your transcript to look amazing, and all colleges want are students with great grades, and higher
level classes, that have never made a mistake in their high school career, instead of really getting to

A Brief Note On Culture And Everyday Life
Culture and Everyday Life
The term culture itself, is very broad. It is defined in many different ways by many different people
around the world. Culture includes all the aspects from your everyday life. Most people don t know it,
but everything you do is part of your culture; it is a tradition. Culture consists of things such as
clothes, family, food, and religion, all the way to recreation, gender roles, music, and art. However,
when you enter a new type of environment with your own cultural heritage, it forces you to adapt and
change. With this, a person s culture consistently informs the way we view the world and others. This
is especially true when people s cultural traditions are confronted with a new culture and environment.

Art Does Not Need To Be Pretty
The question of beauty has been asked since the beginning of time and yet there is still no precise
answer. When discussing this same question and applying it to works of art a number of answers could
be as large as the population. Henri Matisse and Francis Bacon have both inspired artists for
generations and are considered to be opposite sides of the coin. Matisse created paintings with bright,
happy colors mixing in patterns and showed life as it was viewed from the outside, leading to the idea
that he created pretty paintings. On the other hand, Bacon produced intense paintings which included
rich, dark colors that expressed the agony that can only be viewed from within oneself. When the
viewer immerses themselves in both styles of painting it will be clear that art does not need to be
pretty . One must look at the root of the person creating the art to truly understand the beauty of the
piece. Matisse attended law school in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a child, he was shy and enjoyed dressing up even though this really upset his father. In 1926,
Bacon was found admiring himself dressed in women s undergarments and was thrown out of the
home where his family lived (Wiki). Inside his mind, there was a battle that would never cease and
this type of inner torment can be seen in his work. One such piece of work was Bacons rendition of
the Portrait of Pope Innocent X (1650 Velazquez). The resemblances of the versions included the Pope
sitting in a chair looking directly at the viewer. However, that is where the similarities end. In the 1953
painting, Bacon tore away the flesh from the Pope leaving a screaming skeleton in the place of the
stern faced pope in the original painting. Being up to interpretation, I view this painting in as if
Bacons goal was to capture the anger that he had received his whole life from his father and religious

Dubai Aviation And International Airport
Introduction
Since the building of Dubai s first airport in 1959, Dubai s aviation industry has grown into one of the
world s largest logistical hubs. With the addition of a $32 billion facility, The Al Maktoum
International Airport, Dubai s aviation industry has had local, regional, and global impact, positioning
Dubai as a world hub in the Middle East for tourism, trade, and commerce (Greenway, 2013, p 33).
This essay will explore the aviation model in Dubai from the creation of its first airport in 1959, to the
planned opening of The Al Maktoum International Airport to passenger travel in 2015.
Topics of this paper will include how Dubai s aviation model has impacted the economies of both
regional and international communities, and how the current infrastructure of Dubai s logistics
industry will affect the growth within the Dubai aviation model. Citing recent studies, this paper will
explore how the Dubai aviation sector has contributed to its own region s growth while threatening the
status of past international aviation hubs such as Britain s Heathrow airport. The ambition of Dubai s
ruling government will be discussed as a major factor in the growth of Dubai s aviation model.
Specifically, how Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Maktoum s ambition and vision has helped establish the
emirate as an award winning logistics hub (Greenway, 2013, p 33). In spite of recent crisis in global
economies, Dubai s aviation sector has largely been responsible for restoring economic and

Humanitarian Intervention Research Paper
I. Introduction
In 2011, Operation Unified Protector performed air strikes over Libya, destabilizing the country and
enabling the murder of Libya s dictator of 42 years, Colonel Muammar al Gaddafi. The United
Nations Security Council justified the Libya Intervention for NATO allies on the grounds of an
imminent humanitarian crisis that was thought to occur at the direction of Gaddafi. Thus, the United
States, UNSC, and NATO allies are culpable for the humanitarian catastrophe in Libya and the killing
of Gaddafi, because of their misuse of Responsibility to Protect (R2P) for their Humanitarian
Intervention in 2011.
In this paper I will provide a brief history of relations between the U.S. and Libya since 1979 and give
an overview of the 2011 NATO led Humanitarian Intervention in Libya claimed to prevent an
anticipated humanitarian crisis. I will examine the stated motivations behind the NATO backed
Intervention that resulted in the regime change. I will explain President Barack Obama s motivations
to move forward with the intervention, as well as his current state of mind on the matter. In addition, I
will explain Secretary of State Hillary Clinton motives at the time of the intervention, the reasons as

Risks Related to Our Business and Industry
Our limited operating history makes evaluating our business and future prospects difficult, and may

You must consider the risks and difficulties we face as an early stage company with a limited
operating history. If we do not successfully address these risks, our business, prospects, operating
results and financial condition will be materially and adversely harmed. We were formed in July 2003.
We began delivering our first performance electric vehicle, the Tesla Roadster, in early 2008, and as of
March 31, 2012, we had only sold approximately 2,250 Roadsters to customers, primarily in the
United States and Europe. Our revenues for the three months ... Show more content on

In addition, our powertrain component sales, development services revenue and powertrain research
and development compensation have been almost entirely generated under arrangements with Daimler
AG (Daimler) and Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota). While we have recently finalized with Daimler
the terms for a full electric powertrain program for a vehicle in the Mercedes line and have executed a
supply and services agreement with Toyota related to the Toyota RAV4 EV program, there are no
assurances that we will be able to secure future business with Daimler, Toyota or any of their
affiliates.
It is difficult to predict our future revenues and appropriately budget for our expenses, and we have
limited insight into trends that may emerge and affect our business. For example, during the three
months ended March 31, 2012 and the years ended 2011, 2010 and 2009, we recorded quarterly
revenues of as much as $58.2 million and as little as $18.6 million and quarterly operating losses of as
much as $90.6 million and as little as $4.3 million. In the event that actual results differ from our
estimates or we adjust our estimates in future periods, our operating results and financial position
could be materially affected.
In addition, our revenues to date have included amounts we receive from selling zero emission vehicle
(ZEV) and greenhouse gas emission (GHG) credits to other automobile manufacturers, pursuant to
certain state regulations.

The Multiculturalism And Education Policy
Multiculturalism and Education Policy
How we educate our students is a contentious topic. Many stakeholders have different ideas about
what will make our schools more successful. Without going into great detail about the past, it is safe to
say the current paradigm is one of standards and assessment. Schools have gone back to basics
reading, math, science, and little else (Newman, 2013). In order to be considered successful, schools
have resorted to teaching to the standardized tests. Effective school advocates believe that the country
should pay less attention to racial issues and student racial composition of schools and instead
concentrate on academic quality only (Newman, 2006). I do not agree. I do not feel that school
success is an all or nothing venture where we have to decide between concentrating only on academic
quality or multicultural issues. Instead, I think that concentrating on multiculturalism issues, such as
racial issues and racial composition of schools, creates a nurturing and supportive environment
thereby improving academic quality. Although education is often promoted as a pathway out of
poverty, American educational disparities are such that the families with the greatest need are often
relegated to the least adequate educational resources (Sue Sue, 2013). 60 years after de jure
segregation was outlawed, schools are almost as segregated as they were before desegregation
(Hannah Jones, 2014). Such segregation is sometimes called

Commonwel Personal Statement
I am interested in applying for the acting apprenticeship for the Commonweal Theater Company for
the 2017 2018 program. I am a recent graduate of Carleton College, with a degree in Biology, but I
have always had a passion for theater and the performing arts. I started dancing when I was 4, was in
my first play when I was 8, was a competitive cheerleader and performed in musicals in high school.
When I studied at Carleton I danced for student led ensembles, choreographed for musicals, sang in
choir, took voice lessons, and acted in student films and faculty directed plays. However, like any
performer, I faced rejection along the way. I knew that if I wanted to succeed I could never let the
dismissals get to me, though sometimes this was harder than others.
I also knew that if they wouldn t let me perform, there were other ways I could participate, and that
was what led me to technical theater. I helped build and paint sets when I was in high school, and also
ran the follow spot. My student job in college was in the scene shop and costume shop where I gained

one goal. As an enthusiastic worker, with a very versatile background, I can assist anyone who needs

is what brings joy to my life. With this apprenticeship, I will participate in theatrical creation at every
level. Thank you for your time and consideration. I have enclosed a headshot and acting resume, as
required, but I have also included a professional resume including my work experience in theater. I

Aint No Good Girl
The Story So I Ain t No Good Girl by Sharon Flake is a portion of the book and the scene stood out
the most in the story. It caught my attention on how the setting and the characters made the scene flow.
The main character of the story is on her way to her bus stop and she gets into a little confrontation
with girls at her bus stop. Raheem her so called Boyfriend shows up and they have small talk about
how she will cover up for him at school, since he isn t going. The bus arrives and she gets on the bus.
When she is seated and gives Raheem one last glance, she sees him with one of the girls she had a
little confrontation with and the way they were pressed against each other and she lost it. The scene of

The way I fell the conflict could have lessened is if she thought about not having a relationship with
Raheem. I ll go to his class. I think and tell his teacher his teacher he was sick this morning that he
will take his test tomorrow. She would have had the mind set of not wanting to interact with Raheem

audience would have gotten a little more hype about that particular scene if we knew what would have

The Impact Of Iso 14001 On Asian Firms
THE IMPACT OF ISO 14001 ON ASIAN FIRMS
1, Challenging World of Business in Asia
Firms in developed countries have been faced with increasing amounts of pressure to manage and
evaluate the impact of their activities on environment as the impacts went well beyond local and
regional levels since around the 1970s. Following the developed countries, the same concern has
become increasingly obvious in Asia as most of Asian industries have been developed through the
export driven style economy and this has made them to do their economic activities in conformity
with international standards. In order to reach better profitability and international competitiveness,
firms in Asia have been facing the challenges of operating their business without damaging the
environment and their corporate finances.
The Asian continent enjoys a very rich mixture of complex cultures and this complexity is reflected in
their economic, political, legal and business systems. Most Southeast Asian countries developed
through primarily agricultural economies where industrial production has a limited influence until
about 30 years ago (Oosterveer, Kamolsiripichaiporn and Rasiah 2006, p. 217). As industrial
production increased rapidly over the last decades, the number of NIEs, newly industrialised
economies, in the region has expanded to include countries such as Malaysia, Thai and Indonesia. This
means that these countries have joined the more developed fist members of NIEs, Hong Kong,
Singapore, Taiwan

American Nation Research Paper
The U.S. has been a melting pot since the beginning of time. Since Christopher Columbus discovered
America different nations such as the British, French, Africa, Mexico, American Indians, and other
countries have occupied this nation. Fortunately, overall as a nation we have been able to live in
America and still be able to practice our cultures. Although, some people have biases against others

of the most hated and respected nations in the world. America is made up of immigrants which are
why we are the most diverse, innovative, and leading country in the world.

Bill Melendez Career as an Animator. Very few people are unfamiliar with the work of Bill Melendez,
although many people are likely unaware that Melendez is creative force behind many beloved
classics. An immigrant from Mexico, Melendez first began his career as an animator with the Walt

to Warner Brothers after the 1941 animators strike. Eventually, Melendez joined United Productions of

Melendez s influence on the themes in Anderson s work is not as apparent as the visuals. In Anderson
s films, however, the adolescent (either real or behaviorally) creator, while handled sympathetically, is
also called out for his... destructive and exclusive behavior and must learn both to adapt and to
assimilate, at least partially (Orgeron, 2007). This theme can be seen repeatedly in Anderson s work in
Suzy and Sam running away from home (and eventually being found) in Moonrise Kingdom, and in
Max s expulsion and subsequent enrollment in public school in Rushmore. In his book Wes Anderson:
Why his Movies Matter, Mark Browning asserts that, Charlie Brown is quite different from most
Anderson heroes, who lack his more realistic self awareness that he is likely to screw up whatever
chances life appears to offer him... (Browning, 2011). Although the typical protagonist in a Wes
Anderson movie often has an even less realistic outlook on life than a Peanuts character, there are
similarities. Anderson s characters ... all have the startling ability to view their lives according to their
own desires, seeing things the way they want to see them, which is not always consistent with reality
as observed from the outside (Hancock, 2005). Similar to the way the Linus unwaveringly believes in

Human Suffering, By The Marxian Analysis Of Capitalism And...
Introduction In this essay, I will examine the concept of human suffering, namely inequality,
alienation, oppression and violence as presented in the Marxian analysis of capitalism and class
struggles. In examining these concepts I argue that the hierarchy of difference created by the binary
model of inferior and superior class positions naturalises this human suffering. In many ways, human
suffering is the negation of the other in order to determine oneself. In order to explore the key
concepts that effectuate to human suffering, I will first talk about the concepts of inequality,
alienation, oppression and violence in the context of case studies drawn from a Marxian analysis
against capitalism. After examining the terms, I will critique how power was concentrated in a top
down hierarchy within Marxist ideology.
Human Suffering The struggle to live against deterministic ideologies constitutes many forms of
human suffering. Human suffering could be largely due to the practice of negation of all others who
do not belong to a dominant or all powerful group. Human suffering can take many forms, but in the
context of capitalism and class struggles, Marx s conceptualisation of human suffering is in the form
of inequality between classes, the bourgeoisie and the proletariat, or the capitalist and the working
class. Because of the inequality between these two groups, capitalists would usually hold the power
over the proletariat, the workers and the labourers who engage in

Forrest Thomson Poetic Artifice Analysis
Two Co Option Co option is I argue most clearly defined by Veronica Forrest Thomson s Poetic
Artifice. A text, that pushed back against critics of the previous generation and endeavoured early on
to integrate structuralist thought with post structuralist. This integration between structuralism and
post structuralism can be seen as an attempt to get at the importance of poetry. In an attempt to stress
and illuminate poetry s unique ability to be transformative of both language and the world. Forrest
Thomson in Poetic Artifice demands an intense focus on all the rhythmic, phonetic, verbal and logical
devices which makes poetry different from prose to best consider this transformative nature. It is in
this distinguishing of poetry from prose, and the highly formalist manner and structuralist distrust of
language s transparency in which she follows that one can also see a similar differencing between the
broader spectrum of literature with the sciences. There is no need in Forrest Thomson s work for
differing areas to be inclusive of one another, to the point of loss of individuality, because of a
homogenizing of methodology and epistemic reasoning. Throughout both Poetic Artifice and her
thesis Poetry as Knowledge: The Use of Science by Twentieth Century Poets, Forest Thomson can be
seen to put forward a new structure, in which separation is crucial for any kind of interrelation
between the two fields of knowledge. She follows a similar stance as that of Kelly

Types Of Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome
Introduction
Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome, also known as MODS, can occur after any severe injury or
disease process that activates a large systemic inflammatory response which includes any kind of
shock (Sole, 2013, 283). Like with any kind of dysfunction, organ dysfunction can lead to further
organ failure and ultimately death (Sole, 2013, 283). The most common causes of MODS includes
severe sepsis and septic shock, which represents the highest cause of mortality in these conditions
(Semeraro, 2011, 293). The body s immune system along with the body s response to stress can be a
precipitating factor to maldistribution of circulating volume, global tissue hypoxia, and metabolic
alterations which results in damage to the organs (Sole, 2013, 283). According to Ignatavicius (2013),
once the damage has begun, a vicious cycle follow resulting in further cellular and organ damage. The
first organs to lose their function include the liver, heart, brain, and kidneys, with the most devastating
change being the damage to the heart muscle (Ignatavicius, 2013, 814). Multitudes of research has
been done to further explain the cause and possible treatments for this deadly syndrome.
Pathophysiology
MODS can classified as either primary or secondary. According to Sole (2013), Primary MODS is a
result of an injury to a specific organ which can occur in shock, trauma, burns, or infection that causes
an impairment in the perfusion of blood that can either be localized or systemic,

Mathata is a completely uneducated housemaid but despite this she has much better manners than
Neo. Kegoletile has a choice to marry one or the other and of course he chooses Neo. In this culture a
good wife is seen to be a wife with good manners and therefore Mathata should be the obvious choice.
Neo s relatives recognise that he has chosen Neo so that he and her may become rich in no time.
The aunts on both sides are the representation of tradition and modernity in the story. Kegoletile s
aunts representing the culture and what is lost. They demonstrate the importance of manners and
tradition in the culture. That girl has no manners! the relatives would remark. What s the good of an
education if it goes to someone s head so badly they have no respect for the people? Oh, she is not a

The African wedding is quite similar to our wedding in some aspects. Instead of having the bride s
father to give his daughter away the aunts give the bride away. Other similarities include celebrations
after the wedding.
The Train from Rhodesia is set in a train station in Rhodesia. A train arrives at this station full of
Europeans on holiday. As the train arrives many Africans rush up to the train to try and sell various
items to the Europeans. A little girl throws chocolates to the dogs. This seems rather disrespectful to

Coates felt that the American society viewed black lives as worthless, no matter what your
background was. He saw the officer as a direct representation of America s beliefs. Coates makes it
clear that this was nothing new. The history of the destruction of the black body was rooted not just in
slavery, but in the battles of the Civil War, the Jim Crow era, police brutality, racial profiling, and the
creation and promotion of the quote on quote Dream to him. He presents the idea of being successful
as a black person, specifically a black male, in America as having to be twice as good than your white
counterparts. He paints the picture of history repeating himself because he finds it frustrating that even
though his son grew up differently than he did, he still has to fight the same fight that he himself did
as a boy his son s age. He feels as if black people want to win, they must win in their communities and
find joy in it because it is all that they have. Coates feels that even though the struggle is hard, the
struggle provides meaning to life because it gives black people something to look back on, after they

Literary Analysis Of Our Town
Aaron Keime Mr. Sissel English 11(B) 3 16 15 Our Town Literary Analysis The play Our Town is
made by Thornton Wilder. It takes place in Grover s Corner, New Hampshire, a very small town. In
Our Town, Thornton Wilder shows us how to live like better by making more time for loved ones and
that live goes by fast. One of Our Town s main theme in my opinion is that life is futile. Almost every
character in the play can be used to support this analysis. Throughout this paper I will examine how
characters support this theme. Another theme that I draw from this play is that time goes by too fast.
Time seems to be an underlying menace the entirety of the play. The first theme that I will discuss is
that life is futile. The first instance of this in Our Town is Joe Crowell Jr. when we are told that he died
in World War I. We learn that Joe goes to college and tries to get an education for his life. But it doesn
t really matter because he dies in the first World War. The play also shows some irony in with Joe that
he can predict when it s going rain but can t predict when he s going to die. Also showing how fast
time passes the play shows Joe s brother delivering papers just like he used to. Life will seem to go on
the same way that it always did even when all these people die. The play actually mentions quite a ...

Domesticated Rats Research Paper
Recently, some of the most populated cities around the world are experiencing a rodent crisis . Though
they have only been around for a few decades, recent research suggests that rats have learned to adapt
and evolve along with humans. As expected, rodents such as rats and mice thrive in urban areas,
where humans provide food and shelter.
Members of the genus Rattus originate from Australia and Asia. Typically, people confuse rats with
mice because they share similar characteristics but, rats can be differentiated from mice. Rats are
commonly medium size rodents that have a thin tail and longer, thinner bodies compared to mice.
There are approximately fifty species of rats in the world. Rats are commonly found in almost every
type of environment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, understanding urban rat ecology can help diminish the harmful effects such as structural
damage, food contamination, and disease spread that rats can have on urban ecosystems. The survey
results suggested that rat infestations fluctuate seasonally and that there are a variety of environmental
factors that may attract rats, particularly exposed garbage, abandoned buildings, and compost. The
article also argues that rat infestations are severe in residential areas, commercial areas dealing with
food, as well as in neighborhoods of low socioeconomic status. Generally, rats pose at least a
moderate health risk to the public and although poison baiting is the cheapest and easiest method of rat
control, environmental modification is the most effective way to control rat infestations in the long
term (Feng, A. Y., T., Himsworth, C. G.,

Justice Is Thrasymachus The Stronger
At the beginning of the debate on what justice is; Thrasymachus shoves himself into the dialogue to
say that justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger (Plato 14 [I]). In the state, a ruler is
considered the stronger, therefore what is advantageous to them is just. The laws made to be beneficial
to the ruler are just, so it is just for their subjects to follow these rules and if they disobey it is
considered unjust. This can be said since we can assume that the ruler is the strongest in any situation.
When asked if rulers can make mistakes, Thrasymachus agrees. In relation to the last statement, if a
ruler was to create a law in error, hence the law is disadvantageous to the ruler, and the subjects
followed this law, justice is served on one part. However, since the law is disadvantageous to the ruler,
it would be unjust. The other interlocutors interpret Thrasymachus statement to mean that what is just
is what the ruler believes to be advantageous to themselves since it was agreed upon that the ruler of
the state is the stronger. Thrasymachus, angry with this conclusion, clarifies his agreement to: A ruler,
insofar as he is a ruler, never makes errors and unerringly decrees what is best for ... Show more

Based on his view of justice, injustice rules the truly simple and just, and those it rules do what is to
the advantage of the other and stronger, and they make the one they serve happy, but themselves not at
all (Plato 19 [I]). Thrasymachus stands to say that injustice commands the weak who obey and serve
and benefit the stronger, while they do not benefit at all. Injustice serves those who are unjust, while
those who just do not benefit from being just. He concludes, therefore, that it is more favorable to be
unjust, rather than just. This stands to question why the weaker would be just if they do not profit from

The Batman And Nihilism
In the Dark Knight, the Joker did not prevail in showing that the city of Gotham was Nihilistic. The
practice of Nihilism is that of showing how the world has no morals and or beliefs that matter or are
true. The Joker, an active Nihilist, or one that takes action upon his feelings, is looking to prove that
nothing matter in the city of Gotham. He puts the people of Gotham through many dilemmas and
situations in which the Joker was looking forwards to prove and show accuracy of his beliefs. The city
of Gotham, the Gotham City Police Department or (GCPD), and Batman succeed and prevail, not
falling back on their morals which include Batman s one rule, which he does not break, which is
(Batman) never kill(s). Overall, three situations that show the Joker s defeat are the ferryboat situation,
Batman not killing the Joker, and Harvey Dent becoming Two Face in which Harvey Dent dies a hero,
or lives long enough to see himself become the villain. One of the Joker s great scenes in which he
tries to put Batman to the test is in the many and countless situations in which the Joker tries to get
Batman to kill him. The Joker almost gets Batman to kill him many times such as in the interrogation
room, on the street when Batman is on the motorcycle, when the Joker is hanging upside down from
Batman s hand off of a ledge of a building, etc. Batman s one rule is that he will not kill anyone, as
seen in the rest of the movie. The only thing that makes the Joker different from

Corruption in Corporate America
Corruption in Corporate America As said in every economics class, the reason every business goes
into business is to make money. The same can be said in criminal cases involving businesses. In the
majority of cases, executives and people highly ranked in the company tend to bend the numbers in
the financial/accounting areas of the business or corporation. They do not do this for fun, but rather to
make money. Something needs to be done before corporations really get out of hand. Thankfully, after
the Enron Corporation scandal, the government has recently started to crack down on corporations and
pay more attention to what they are doing. This is due to the extent of what Enron Corp did for so
long. From approximately 1996 to 2001, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel that the people who commit these crimes are just overwhelmingly greedy and cannot control
themselves. If they were able to build up the company, they obviously are intelligent minds and more
than likely already have a significant amount of money. Something needs to be done, especially when
so many people are affected. Millions of people lost so much money and too many lost their life
savings just because the people at the top of Enron were greedy. It seems as though the government is
taking small steps in the right direction. However, I feel that more needs to be done especially because
some of these companies are funding and supplying potential terrorists. That is just outrageous and
shows the extent of what people will do to make money. This is difficult to control and monitor but
more steps need to be made. Hopefully the politicians and others of the future will recognize this ever
growing problem and solve it for the companies to

Demise of Macbeth Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, is the tragic tale of a virtuous man,
corrupted by his power and greed. In the play Macbeth, we see that when the motivation to succeed in
life becomes overpowering, one may decide on wrongful actions to achieve a goal. Many facts play an
important role in deciding his ill fated future but the major influence on Macbeth s actions are of the
witches and their prophecies as they were easily able to control his mind, making him believe ... Show

After Macbeth grows more sinful and overpowered with greed he does not make any real attempt to
change. Macbeth creates his own misery when he is driven by this own sense of guilt. This causes him
to become insecure as to the reasons for his actions, which cause him to commit more murders.
Macbeth s malice and deceptiveness are shown further in the play when he becomes so obsessed with
the witches prophesies to his friend, Banquo, that he decides to hire two men to kill him and his son as
he feared they would cause hazard in this future plan. Later in the play, Macbeth s own ruthlessness
begins to trouble him as he suffers from loss of appetite, nightmares about people he murdered and

The Fourteenth Amendment And The Sixth Amendment
The originally Bill of Rights protected the rights of citizens from infringement by the federal
government, but made no mention of the states. The Fourteen Amendment, adopted shortly after the
Civil War, protected citizenship and individual rights from infringement by state governments. Under
the Fourteenth Amendment s due process clause, the United States Supreme Court began to apply the
most important rights guaranteed in the Bill of Rights against the states. This process began in the
early 1900s and is known as the doctrine of selective incorporation. Duncan versus Louisiana was the
landmark case in which the court incorporated the Sixth Amendment right to a jury trial against the
states. In 1966, Gary Duncan was charged in Louisiana with simple battery, a misdemeanor
punishable by up to two years in prison and a three hundred dollar fine. Duncan requested a jury trial,
but at the time, Louisiana granted jury trials only to cases punishable by execution or imprisonment at
hard labor, and the Sixth Amendment right to a jury trial had not yet been incorporated against the
states. Duncan s request was denied. He was convicted after a bench trial and sentenced to sixty days
in prison and a ten dollar fine. Duncan appealed to the Louisiana Supreme Court, but it declined to
hear the case. Duncan then petitioned the United States Supreme Court for review, asserting that the
Sixth and Fourteenth Amendments guaranteed his right to a jury trial. The issue before the Court was

The Met Essay
I joined the class for the trip to the Big Apple on the eve of Halloween. We departed from a campus
parking lot early Saturday morning. Our destination was the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is
located at 82nd Street and Fifth Avenue. I had never been to the Met before and I was very impressed.
I wandered throughout the museum going from gallery to gallery until I was able to find the two
paintings that interested me the most.
The first painting to catch my eye was the Virgin and Child with Saint Anne, which was painted by
Albrecht Durer around 1519. The German artist lived from 1471 to 1528 and is considered by many
the greatest German Renaissance artist of them all. Albrecht Durer used an oil medium on a wooden
support to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The artist s palette had a fairly wide range of colors when painting this artwork. The use of many
different colors makes this a polychromatic work of art. He used a few warm colors along with a lot of
black and white. Most of the areas of this painting that are painted with warm colors are low in
saturation. This is shown in the clothing of the woman holding the child.
It seems the source of light comes from the top left hand corner of the painting. The light source
causes the three figures to have a high intensity level. This is shown on the child s face, which is not
only the focal point of this picture but also the highlight. Durer also used chiaroscuro to show the
depth in the painting. The shadow on the woman with the child makes the painting appear to be three
dimensional. After seeing how representational a painting can be I decided to take a look at the
opposite end of the spectrum.
The other painting I chose is titled Stepping Out. Roy Lichtenstein did this painting in 1978. He
worked as a commercial artist as well as a graphic designer before becoming popular as a Pop Artist.
Lichtenstein used a similar medium, which was oil and magna, but chose to paint his picture on
canvas instead of wood. While Stepping Out is still a portrait it is unlike Durer `s work in that it is an
abstract artwork. The male form in the painting is fairly realistic while the female form is very surreal.
Lichtenstein also used

  • 2. A Study On Worcester Polytechnic Institute Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), founded in 1865, is a private higher education institute that is dedicated towards science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. There are 75 departments that are currently active at WPI. The departments consists of undergraduate and graduate research along with supporting departments such as the Library, Admissions, Sports Recreation just to name a few. There are over 6,000 active students and about 2518 employees at WPI of which only 480 of them are faculty members, professors of practice, or instructors. At WPI in order to buy anything for the department they have to use an out dated purchasing system that wastes a lot of time to get a simple order placed. When a department wants to place an order for any supply whether its simple office supplies, lab supplies or lab equipment it can involve many tedious steps. For example, in the Chemical Engineering Department where Felicia currently works, a professor or student will submit an electronic Purchase Order sheet which indicates quantities, prices, descriptions and any other pertinent information such as a needed by date or coupon codes and/or quote numbers. From there Felicia or her coworker (also a purchasing agent) will visit a specific vendor site and order exactly what s indicated. In order to do any kind of comparison shopping other individual vendor sites would also need to be visited but if a purchasing agent is not familiar with where to get a specific product ... The film was based off of the novel, Heart of Darkness , and is the story of an Army Captain, Captain Willard, and his mission to hunt down and terminate Colonel Walter Kurtz. The reasoning for sending Willard to kill one of his fellow Americans is due to the fact that Kurtz has become unstable and has been operating against his orders with the Montagnard army and committing murder. Kurtz has gone insane during the war and his methods are thought of as unsound and he needs to be taken care of. Captain Willard s joins the crew of a Navy patrol boat heading down the Nung River on the way to Cambodia to carry out his mission to terminate Colonel Kurtz. During ... After seeing the brutal scene of war going on at the outpost the crew starts having second thoughts about continuing with Willard and some of the crew gets killed. After realizing that all hope with the men is gone Willard and the crew finally find the camp where Kurtz is operating. When arriving the crew is shot at by arrows from natives that are now under the command of Kurtz and the sight of dead bodies everywhere and heads of dead men is what the crew sees when pulling up. Before Willard gets off the boat he orders Chef, one of his crew members, to call in an airstrike on the position if he doesn t come back in time. The natives that are under command of Kurtz grab Willard and drag him through the mud and throw him in a cage. While Willard is in the cage Kurtz throws Chef s head into the cage and this shows how the war has turned Kurtz into a monster and is no longer sane. After being around Kurtz for a few days Willard learns that the war has really affected Kurtz horribly. Kurtz is no longer the man he used to be and has gone completely insane and mad. Eventually, Willard keeps his head straight and carries out the mission by terminating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Comparing The Epic Gilgamesh And Navajo Flood Myth Myths were created to explain the inexplicable, and to emphasize the power of a God or Goddess. There are some myths that are part of religious traditions that are passed down from generation to generation. Flood myths were most likely created to scare people or to tell people how God or Gods gave them a do over. Despite bearing some minor similarities the differences between the Bible, The Epic Gilgamesh, and Navajo flood story are clear. In each of these stories there was a great flood. In the flood story in the Bible the purpose was to kill all air breathing animals and all the sinful humans that lived on land. In the Bible Noah was told to build an ark and take his family and two of each animal with him. The flood story in the Epic of Gilgamesh had a very similar reason but the Gods were meaning to kill human and animal. Ea tells Utnapishtim to build a boat and take only himself and two of each animal, but he ends up taking his workers, family, and a lot of things that he was not suppose to. In the Navajo flood story the flood was not to kill all of mankind, it was to get the sea monsters baby back. Unlike the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Innocent shoppers leap to safety as cars circle the neighborhood grocery store lot in search of the ideal parking spot. Engines revving. Adrenaline rushing. The driver s sole mission is to obtain a white lined rectangle of pavement before entering the race known as shopping. As a safety precaution, competent and considerate shoppers should be aware of the distinct character traits of the three annoying types of shoppers: Hurry Harry, Suburban Sally, and Picky Pete. She skillfully maneuvers the cart through the maze of shoppers, braking without warning, to comparison shop or to threaten her loud bunch of food guzzlers. With the strength of a two ton truck, she steers her cart to the finish line. As the cashier rings up her purchases, it is time for her to make one last lap around the store for a forgotten item. Customers sigh as she pulls out coupons and rebates to offset the sticker price. She writes a check and calculates the difference before leaving. • 7. Summary Of John Winthrop s A Model Of Christian Clarity John Winthrop was born around the 1500 s in England which at the time had corruption due to overpopulation and not enough money. He decided that it needed to be more peace against prosecution of religion and joined a group called the Puritans. He and his group decided that they should be the ones to have a safe community as Puritans. He and his fellow people set out on a voyage where a book was written called A Model of Christian Clarity. For example, A Model of Christian Clarity says that All men being thus (by divine providence) ranked into two sorts, rich and poor; under the first are comprehended all such as are able to live comfortably by their own means duly improved; and all other are poor according to the former distribution (Winthrop 178). This means that the Puritans should be able to live the way they choose whether it be religion or rich/poor. He also emphasized helping people and not wanting anything in return. He also wanted to emphasize that the land should not be based on status and that everyone should help each other to have a more Puritan life. Winthrop believes that everyone should live a more Christian life and have compassion to the poor if you are wealthy by selling all of your things soon in order for them to eat. In A Model of Christian Clarity , Winthrop concludes with Deuteronomy 30 which says Beloved, there is now set before us life and food, death and evil, in that we are commanded this day to love the Lord our God, and to love one another, ... • 8. The System Of Criminal Trial Essay 4.6(2) Adversary system The system of criminal trial as mentioned or directed by the Code is the adversary system based on the accusatorial method . In this system the prosecutor representing the State (or the people) accuses the defendant (the accused person) of the commission of some crime; and the law requires him to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt. The law also provides fair opportunity to the accused person to defend himself. The judge, more or less, is to work as an umpire between the two contestants. Challenge constitutes the essence of adversary trial and truth is supposed to emerge from the controverted facts through effective and constant challenges . Experience has shown that adversary is by and large dependable for the reconciliation of public and private interest i.e. public interest in punishing the criminals and private interest in preventing wrongful convictions. 4.6(3) Section 304 of Code of Criminal Procedure: Legal aid to accused at State expense in certain cases: Most of the accused persons are poor and uneducated. They cannot afford to engage lawyers for their defence, nor do they have any legal knowledge and professional skill to safeguard their interests themselves. Therefore, though the adversary system predicts equal legal rights and opportunities to the parties to present their respective cases before the court, such legal rights and opportunities would in practice operate unevenly and harshly, affecting undesirably the poor accused ... The Crisis And The Prospects For Ifis Korea s IMF Crisis and the Prospects for IFIs In 1997, the Thai baht came under speculative attack from international investors and the Thai government was eventually unable to support its currency peg. Due to the interconnected nature of the global economy, contagion occurred and the problems affecting Thailand spread to countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and South Korea. This event came to be known as the Asian Financial Crisis in the West. However, in South Korea it is known as the IMF, as misguided policies of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led to a deep and more painful recession, inequality and an gutted the nation s middle class. Below is an overview of the IMF s rescue of Korea in 1997/1998, a description of my opinion on the situation, and my opinion of the fairness and effectiveness of international financial institutions (IFIs) in general. The IMF offered assistance to South Korea in December of 1997, but misguided conditions attached to the loans hurt the country. The IMF intended help avoid mass defaults on dollar denominated loans, and fight inflation that was severely affecting the economy of Korea (and other countries). Throughout the course of television history, we see television ranging from documentaries to drama to reality. As there is drama and comedy on our screens there isn t a healthy range of races or ethnicities throughout TV shows. In 2017, we live in an America with over millions of people of different backgrounds, but that does not seem to reflect how it is represented on television shows. The portrayal of diversity on our television screens isn t shown as much as it is seen throughout America, thus creating stereotypes of multiple minorities and unflattering perceptions from less educated viewers. Reality TV is a hot contender regarding the number of minority groups seen. However, when you enter a new type of environment with your own cultural heritage, it forces you to adapt and change. • 16. Art Does Not Need To Be Pretty The question of beauty has been asked since the beginning of time and yet there is still no precise answer. When discussing this same question and applying it to works of art a number of answers could be as large as the population. Henri Matisse and Francis Bacon have both inspired artists for generations and are considered to be opposite sides of the coin. Matisse created paintings with bright, happy colors mixing in patterns and showed life as it was viewed from the outside, leading to the idea that he created pretty paintings. On the other hand, Bacon produced intense paintings which included rich, dark colors that expressed the agony that can only be viewed from within oneself. When the viewer immerses themselves in both styles of painting it will be clear that art does not need to be pretty . One must look at the root of the person creating the art to truly understand the beauty of the piece. Matisse attended law school in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a child, he was shy and enjoyed dressing up even though this really upset his father. In 1926, Bacon was found admiring himself dressed in women s undergarments and was thrown out of the home where his family lived (Wiki). Inside his mind, there was a battle that would never cease and this type of inner torment can be seen in his work. One such piece of work was Bacons rendition of the Portrait of Pope Innocent X (1650 Velazquez). The resemblances of the versions included the Pope sitting in a chair looking directly at the viewer. However, that is where the similarities end. In the 1953 painting, Bacon tore away the flesh from the Pope leaving a screaming skeleton in the place of the stern faced pope in the original painting. • 17. Dubai Aviation And International Airport Introduction Since the building of Dubai s first airport in 1959, Dubai s aviation industry has grown into one of the world s largest logistical hubs. With the addition of a $32 billion facility, The Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai s aviation industry has had local, regional, and global impact, positioning Dubai as a world hub in the Middle East for tourism, trade, and commerce (Greenway, 2013, p 33). This essay will explore the aviation model in Dubai from the creation of its first airport in 1959, to the planned opening of The Al Maktoum International Airport to passenger travel in 2015. Topics of this paper will include how Dubai s aviation model has impacted the economies of both regional and international communities, and how the current infrastructure of Dubai s logistics industry will affect the growth within the Dubai aviation model. Citing recent studies, this paper will explore how the Dubai aviation sector has contributed to its own region s growth while threatening the status of past international aviation hubs such as Britain s Heathrow airport. The ambition of Dubai s ruling government will be discussed as a major factor in the growth of Dubai s aviation model. Specifically, how Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Maktoum s ambition and vision has helped establish the emirate as an award winning logistics hub (Greenway, 2013, p 33). Introduction In 2011, Operation Unified Protector performed air strikes over Libya, destabilizing the country and enabling the murder of Libya s dictator of 42 years, Colonel Muammar al Gaddafi. The United Nations Security Council justified the Libya Intervention for NATO allies on the grounds of an imminent humanitarian crisis that was thought to occur at the direction of Gaddafi. Thus, the United States, UNSC, and NATO allies are culpable for the humanitarian catastrophe in Libya and the killing of Gaddafi, because of their misuse of Responsibility to Protect (R2P) for their Humanitarian Intervention in 2011. In this paper I will provide a brief history of relations between the U.S. and Libya since 1979 and give an overview of the 2011 NATO led Humanitarian Intervention in Libya claimed to prevent an anticipated humanitarian crisis. • 20. The Multiculturalism And Education Policy Multiculturalism and Education Policy How we educate our students is a contentious topic. Many stakeholders have different ideas about what will make our schools more successful. Without going into great detail about the past, it is safe to say the current paradigm is one of standards and assessment. Schools have gone back to basics reading, math, science, and little else (Newman, 2013). In order to be considered successful, schools have resorted to teaching to the standardized tests. Effective school advocates believe that the country should pay less attention to racial issues and student racial composition of schools and instead concentrate on academic quality only (Newman, 2006). I do not agree. I do not feel that school success is an all or nothing venture where we have to decide between concentrating only on academic quality or multicultural issues. Instead, I think that concentrating on multiculturalism issues, such as racial issues and racial composition of schools, creates a nurturing and supportive environment thereby improving academic quality. Although education is often promoted as a pathway out of poverty, American educational disparities are such that the families with the greatest need are often relegated to the least adequate educational resources (Sue Sue, 2013). 60 years after de jure segregation was outlawed, schools are almost as segregated as they were before desegregation (Hannah Jones, 2014). Introduction In this essay, I will examine the concept of human suffering, namely inequality, alienation, oppression and violence as presented in the Marxian analysis of capitalism and class struggles. In examining these concepts I argue that the hierarchy of difference created by the binary model of inferior and superior class positions naturalises this human suffering. In many ways, human suffering is the negation of the other in order to determine oneself. In order to explore the key concepts that effectuate to human suffering, I will first talk about the concepts of inequality, alienation, oppression and violence in the context of case studies drawn from a Marxian analysis against capitalism. After examining the terms, I will critique how power was concentrated in a top down hierarchy within Marxist ideology. Human Suffering The struggle to live against deterministic ideologies constitutes many forms of human suffering. Human suffering could be largely due to the practice of negation of all others who do not belong to a dominant or all powerful group. Human suffering can take many forms, but in the context of capitalism and class struggles, Marx s conceptualisation of human suffering is in the form of inequality between classes, the bourgeoisie and the proletariat, or the capitalist and the working class. A text, that pushed back against critics of the previous generation and endeavoured early on to integrate structuralist thought with post structuralist. This integration between structuralism and post structuralism can be seen as an attempt to get at the importance of poetry. In an attempt to stress and illuminate poetry s unique ability to be transformative of both language and the world. Forrest Thomson in Poetic Artifice demands an intense focus on all the rhythmic, phonetic, verbal and logical devices which makes poetry different from prose to best consider this transformative nature. It is in this distinguishing of poetry from prose, and the highly formalist manner and structuralist distrust of language s transparency in which she follows that one can also see a similar differencing between the broader spectrum of literature with the sciences. There is no need in Forrest Thomson s work for differing areas to be inclusive of one another, to the point of loss of individuality, because of a homogenizing of methodology and epistemic reasoning. Types Of Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome Introduction Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome, also known as MODS, can occur after any severe injury or disease process that activates a large systemic inflammatory response which includes any kind of shock (Sole, 2013, 283). Like with any kind of dysfunction, organ dysfunction can lead to further organ failure and ultimately death (Sole, 2013, 283). The most common causes of MODS includes severe sepsis and septic shock, which represents the highest cause of mortality in these conditions (Semeraro, 2011, 293). The body s immune system along with the body s response to stress can be a precipitating factor to maldistribution of circulating volume, global tissue hypoxia, and metabolic alterations which results in damage to the organs (Sole, 2013, 283). According to Ignatavicius (2013), once the damage has begun, a vicious cycle follow resulting in further cellular and organ damage. The first organs to lose their function include the liver, heart, brain, and kidneys, with the most devastating change being the damage to the heart muscle (Ignatavicius, 2013, 814). Multitudes of research has been done to further explain the cause and possible treatments for this deadly syndrome. Pathophysiology MODS can classified as either primary or secondary. Coates felt that the American society viewed black lives as worthless, no matter what your background was. He saw the officer as a direct representation of America s beliefs. Coates makes it clear that this was nothing new. The history of the destruction of the black body was rooted not just in slavery, but in the battles of the Civil War, the Jim Crow era, police brutality, racial profiling, and the creation and promotion of the quote on quote Dream to him. He presents the idea of being successful as a black person, specifically a black male, in America as having to be twice as good than your white counterparts. He paints the picture of history repeating himself because he finds it frustrating that even though his son grew up differently than he did, he still has to fight the same fight that he himself did as a boy his son s age. He feels as if black people want to win, they must win in their communities and find joy in it because it is all that they have. • 39. Literary Analysis Of Our Town Aaron Keime Mr. Sissel English 11(B) 3 16 15 Our Town Literary Analysis The play Our Town is made by Thornton Wilder. It takes place in Grover s Corner, New Hampshire, a very small town. In Our Town, Thornton Wilder shows us how to live like better by making more time for loved ones and that live goes by fast. One of Our Town s main theme in my opinion is that life is futile. Almost every character in the play can be used to support this analysis. Throughout this paper I will examine how characters support this theme. Another theme that I draw from this play is that time goes by too fast. Time seems to be an underlying menace the entirety of the play. The first theme that I will discuss is that life is futile. The first instance of this in Our Town is Joe Crowell Jr. when we are told that he died in World War I. We learn that Joe goes to college and tries to get an education for his life. But it doesn t really matter because he dies in the first World War. The play also shows some irony in with Joe that he can predict when it s going rain but can t predict when he s going to die. Also showing how fast time passes the play shows Joe s brother delivering papers just like he used to. Life will seem to go on the same way that it always did even when all these people die. Justice Is Thrasymachus The Stronger At the beginning of the debate on what justice is; Thrasymachus shoves himself into the dialogue to say that justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger (Plato 14 [I]). In the state, a ruler is considered the stronger, therefore what is advantageous to them is just. The laws made to be beneficial to the ruler are just, so it is just for their subjects to follow these rules and if they disobey it is considered unjust. This can be said since we can assume that the ruler is the strongest in any situation. When asked if rulers can make mistakes, Thrasymachus agrees. In relation to the last statement, if a ruler was to create a law in error, hence the law is disadvantageous to the ruler, and the subjects followed this law, justice is served on one part. However, since the law is disadvantageous to the ruler, it would be unjust. The other interlocutors interpret Thrasymachus statement to mean that what is just is what the ruler believes to be advantageous to themselves since it was agreed upon that the ruler of the state is the stronger. The Fourteen Amendment, adopted shortly after the Civil War, protected citizenship and individual rights from infringement by state governments. Under the Fourteenth Amendment s due process clause, the United States Supreme Court began to apply the most important rights guaranteed in the Bill of Rights against the states. This process began in the early 1900s and is known as the doctrine of selective incorporation. Duncan versus Louisiana was the landmark case in which the court incorporated the Sixth Amendment right to a jury trial against the states. In 1966, Gary Duncan was charged in Louisiana with simple battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and a three hundred dollar fine. Duncan requested a jury trial, but at the time, Louisiana granted jury trials only to cases punishable by execution or imprisonment at hard labor, and the Sixth Amendment right to a jury trial had not yet been incorporated against the states. Duncan s request was denied. He was convicted after a bench trial and sentenced to sixty days in prison and a ten dollar fine. Duncan appealed to the Louisiana Supreme Court, but it declined to hear the case. He used a few warm colors along with a lot of black and white. Most of the areas of this painting that are painted with warm colors are low in saturation. This is shown in the clothing of the woman holding the child. It seems the source of light comes from the top left hand corner of the painting. The light source causes the three figures to have a high intensity level. This is shown on the child s face, which is not only the focal point of this picture but also the highlight. Durer also used chiaroscuro to show the depth in the painting. The shadow on the woman with the child makes the painting appear to be three dimensional. After seeing how representational a painting can be I decided to take a look at the opposite end of the spectrum. The other painting I chose is titled Stepping Out. Roy Lichtenstein did this painting in 1978. He worked as a commercial artist as well as a graphic designer before becoming popular as a Pop Artist. Lichtenstein used a similar medium, which was oil and magna, but chose to paint his picture on canvas instead of wood.
