Limitations Of Video As A Learning Tool
2.1.2: Limitations of Video as a Learning Tool
Although video has become prevalent in education, some argue that the very presence of video
inhibits learning. Salomon (1984) measured sixth graders preconceptions of the ease or difficulty
when processing print or video based lessons. He discovered that lower mental effort was
extended with the television lesson, perceiving television as easy, and print as tough, thus
requiring more mental exertion. He stated, It stands to reason that when subjects face a task they
perceive to be easy relative to their abilities, their investment of effort decreases and no additional
effort expenditure is needed to perform the task that is perceived to be well mastered (Salomon,
1984: 694). Thus viewers perceive videos as less demanding and invest less mental effort into
processing the information as a result, which negatively influences their learning achievement
(Saloman, 1984). However, since Salomon s work others have conducted research to determine
what other effects could influence a learner s invested mental effort. The category and subject
matter of the content also impacted a viewer s intention to learn from the video material. Kunkel
and Kovaric (1983) discovered that learners view educational content as more serious than
entertainment, and subsequently, altered their motivation to process either information. By
analysing college students and their preconceptions of television shows produced for the Public

The Theory Of Consciousness And The Body
When the word consciousness is used regarding human beings, the word itself usually implies that
those individuals are conscious of being conscious. Many individuals assume that the mind, the
brain, and the body react as one. But the idea of the mind is not related to the concept of the brain
or the body. These differences allow philosophers to determine a people s consciousnessin the world
around them. Individuals derive the concept of consciousness from their experience because
consciousness itself comes from one s youth. Consciousness can be described as an individual s
ability to become aware of his or her surroundings including both the external and internal world
which they are present in. The idea of consciousness can be explained by obtaining something
simple and changing it into something complex, also known as the emergent property. The process
of emergent property can be achieved in two steps that allow philosophers to determine who and
what possess consciousness.
The process of changing matter into energy, which is the first step of the emergent property,
combines subatomic particles in a specific structure to form atoms. The final step of the emergent
property process occurs when those atoms combine to form a more complex form. In humans, as a
whole, the most complex combination of atoms develops to process the brain s activity and is
known as the central nervous system. But because the mind is not correlated with the brain, humans
can be aware of their

Pecola Chapter 3 Analysis
Initially, as I read this quote, I began to sympathize with Pecola and the plight she faces as an
African American female. This is the first time in the novel we are exposed to the desire Pecola
vehemently prays for daily, this desire being blue eyes. The reason I sympathized for the girl
beyond the fact that attaining blue eyes for her would be impossible, is because she blames her
blue lacking eye color, or her ugliness as she classifies it as, as a way to justify everything that has
gone wrong in her life. Take, for instance, Cholly, her dad, and her mother, Mrs. Breedlove s fights.
Even though their fights arise from the problems they have between themselves, Pecola continues
to believe that her ugliness has struck her with not only undesirable... Show more content on

The beginning of Chapter 3 provided insight into the violent nature of Pecola s parents as well
as a good amount of dialogue that provides a strong image that I can use to characterize them
with. The dialogue spoken by her parents is English deeply rooted in African American slang
and culture, full of local color. Knowing this, I was astounded when I drew the parallel that
Pecola established in the example quote above when she was imagining how life would be if
she were to have blue eyes. When she pictures her parents reactions if she did exhibit the trait of
blue eyes in her head, she imagines their dialogue as less slang and gives it a more formal, proper
form of diction. I found this to be interesting because, in my mind, she is creating a correlation
between the Caucasian feature she yearns for and the language and behavior of her parents if she
were to possess this trait. It almost seems that she has ingrained so deep into her mind the beauty of
blue eyes that anything and everything that she could associate them with, including language and
how one speaks, even appeals to

Gatsby Social Interactions
1.Literacy and Social Interaction
Many literacy events appears in the three novels of Fitzgerald in which the characters always
showing literacy activities with books, letters or any written texts as its artifacts. In Fitzgerald s
novels This Side of Paradise (which from now on will be abbreviate to TSOP), The Beautiful
and Damned (which from now on will be abbreviate to TBD), and The Great Gatsby (which also
will be abbreviate to GG), the literacy events can be seen related with human or social interaction
the acts, actions, or practices of two or more people mutually oriented towards each other s selves
(Rummel, 2002). Literacy is working as a medium to make people socially connected to each
other; as social practice with specific purposes in using it. Literacy in the form of reading and

Analysis Of The Book David s Absalom
David (Goliath; Jonathan; Bathsheba; Absalom) David was the youngest out of 8 brothers and the
one God chose to be the next king of Israelites after King Saul, the current ruler. The Israelites did
not get along with the Philistines and in the Philistines, there was a giant named Goliath who
challenged the people of Israelite to fight him so they there would stop being conflict. No one
wanted to fight this scary giant but Davidvolunteered. He grabbed a sling shot and 5 stones and
as Goliath was teasing him for being so little, he shot Goliath between the eyes and Goliath fell,
defeating the giant. Then, David met Jonathan, and as soon as they finished talking, their souls
were entwined. Since Jonathan loved him, he gave David his sword, bow, and belt and as a result
whenever David was sent out on the missions that Saul put him in, he was very successful.
However, in the spring time when all the kings go off to war, David remained behind in Jerusalem
where he spotted a beautiful young woman named Bathsheba, who unfortunately was married to
Uriah the Hittite. David tricked Uriah into staying at the kingdom where he got him drunk and
placed Uriah in the line of fire, killing him. David told Bathsheba where she mourned her husband
but then she slept with David and bore him a son. While all of that was happening, Absalom was up
early and greeting the townspeople, receiving their trust and loyalty. Whenever there were sounds
of trumpets, the townspeople would say that Absalom

Textual Critical Problems Of The Old Testament
Deuteronomy 32:8 and Genesis 49:10 are two examples of textual critical problems in the Old
Testament. The phrase sons of God will be examined in Deuteronomy 32:8, and the word Shiloh
in Genesis 49:10. These issues have caused much debate as to how one should interpret these
verses in light of the textual critical problems. This paper will examine both passages and provide
solutions to each of the textual critical issues. Deuteronomy 32:8 Deuteronomy 32:8 has caused
controversy because of the phrase ЧќЧ™Ч”ЧњЧђ Ч™Ч Ч‘ or ЧќЧ™ЧњЧђ Ч™Ч Ч‘ sons of God.
Some have postulated that this reading renders the Israelite religion to be polytheistic instead of
monotheistic. Therefore, translators have changed the Scripture to read sons of Israel (NIV,
NASB), children of Israel (KJV), or people of Israel (HCSB). Dr. Heiser has persuasively argued
that the translation sons of God is the correct reading of the original Hebrew text, and should be
translated that way in our English Bibles for a number of reasons. A few examples will be
examined to show that sons of God is the correct translation of Deuteronomy 32:8. First, manuscript
evidence is crucial when interpreting a text that has caused there to be textual criticism. There are
more manuscripts that interpret Deuteronomy 32:8 to read sons of Israel, but that does not mean
that should be the correct translation. Dr. Heiser makes it clear that one cannot determine the
meaning of a text by the number of manuscripts. One must evaluate

Essay On Slacks And Calluses
Slacks and Calluses, presents the summer of 1943 from the perspective of Constance Bowman
and Clara Marie Allen, two school teachers, who set aside summer vacation to help with war
efforts in a bomber factory. Coming into the air craft industry, they had no idea what to expect,
We were the kind of girls who knew nothing about airplanes except that they had wings and they
fly. (p.1). Obstacles they faced included an unjust work place and harassment. Women who wore
skirts and rings on their fingers received a greater amount of respect from men, than those who
wore slacks and calluses on their fingers. Despite stumbling blocks, Constance and Clara worked in
the factories out of a sense of patriotism. Social class is defined as a division... Show more content

They were never offered seats from men. Only women in skirts we offered seats as stated in the
book, The truth was though that the two women in skirts who got on at the same time we did
were always offered seats. (p. 71). It was as if the men did not appreciate their good deeds to the
country. Slacks and Calluses does a great job in depicting how the country did not embrace the
idea of women in factories for war production. The fact that we were building bombers seemed a
dubious contribution to the war effort to the people who knew about it. (p.83). The book went
on to say how Clara Marie s father worried about the girl s work being checked by men for
accuracy, as if they were not capable of doing good work by their selves. There was a great deal
of men who hated the fact that school teachers were working in the factories, they felt as though
school teachers were helpless. Although all the women were not fond of working in the factories,
Constance Bowman and Clara Marie worked their out of a sense of patriotism. They loved the
fact that they were putting aside summer vacation in order to help out with war efforts. In fact,
Constance and Clara stated, The dollars that we made this summer were not many, anybody who
thought we had been motivated by anything but patriotism in its purest form could just look at our
pay checks. (p. 173). They enjoyed coming in early and staying late, just to go for a ride in the

Anzac Day
Having a well defined set of values, principles and rules in the company s Code of Conduct helps
employees in knowing the difference between right and wrong, and holds them fully
accountable on any wrongdoing. Therefore, every company must have a clear Code of Conduct
and must communicate it to all the employees. Based on Scott McIntyre s case and other media
companies COC, SBS has to adopt an updated COC composed of precise rules and standards.
Scott McIntyre s post regarding inappropriate and disrespectful comments about Anzac Day is
not an act that is mentioned clearly as a restriction in SBS s key principles. Thus, this ambiguity
created the misunderstanding of rules and values between SBS and the reporter. Therefore, it is
crucial to elaborate more on the principles. On the other hand, the other media companies adopt
a stronger COC. The first example is Los Angeles Times: one of their basic principles is to
always merge the professional life with the personal one especially when using social media
because the reporter should not, in any way, embarrass the company or let the viewers question
its authenticity and impartiality. Even when using strict privacy settings, the reporter should
always keep in mind that everything posted or shared on social media is considered public. The
second example is the independence outside work in NPR s COC: it is mentioned that the
reporters comments and reactions should be guided by their news reporting, not by their personal
point of views. This rule is not only during the reporter s professional appearances, but also on his
or her social media accounts. The third example is the strong language in BBC News COC: strong...

The author states that children who are immunized are less healthy in general than non immunized
children.
One of the strengths of this article is that the author encourages research before making a decision
in regards to immunization.
There are a number of weaknesses to discuss, the validity of the research is questionable, (due to
further research, contradicting her claims. ) The statement made about Japanese immunization was
found to be incorrect.
Some of the authors information is generalized such as statements like I have NEVER met a fully
vaccinated child that is healthier and more robust than a well nourished, unvaccinated child.
A lot of the statements made are based on her own beliefs and are not backed up by facts and
figures. Someday there will be a study that shows that unvaccinated children have many less health
problems than their vaccinated peers. Don t wait until this study is finally done because it will be
too late for your child. Is an example of this kind of statement.
The article seemed biased and did not base statements on facts and research or any scientific proof.

As my four years end at PHS I look back on my life as a journey down a road and see PHS as a
red right. You encounter a lot of people at a red light, looking left, right, infront, and behind you,
there s few that you want to see, the few you don t want to see, and the lot that doesn t matter if
you see. As everyone tries to go on there way people try to be the best they can, most are passive
trying to get on their way, but there s the people that are slow and aggressive. People that you

Nietzsche s Birds Of Prey And The Lambs
Throughout history, the concept of morality and its values have been argued by notable
philosophers observing the society they lived within. With the concept of morality comes the idea
of moral behavior that we have adopted in today s age, such as: generosity, kindness, truthfulness,
integrity, loyalty, commitment, open mindedness, and dependability. The controversial issue that
come from these so called morals, is that these values have had an flip, opening the gate to two
types of moralitysystems that have had us wondering if our morality system has helped or ruined
us. Friedrich Nietzsche, a german philosopher, commonly associated with advocating Nihilism and
the phrase, God is dead, God will remain dead, we have killed him, (Nietzsche,... Show more

The Birds of Prey are natural predators, seeking out the wekaest prey to latch on to in order to
gain the energy for life, and the nobles, according to Nietzsche, are doing the exact same. He
portrays this idea with the statement, to demand of strength that it not express itself as strength
that is not be a desire to overwhelm, a desire to cast down, a desire to become a lord, a thirst for
enemies and resistance and triumphs, is just as nonsensical as to demand of weakness that it
express itself as strength, (Nietzsche, 13) meaning that all the actions that the Birds of Prey have
commited are being undertaken because it would be unjust for them to deny who they truly are.
He is portraying that if a group is powerful, they will strive to stay on top and therefore, all their
actions will be justified with the idea that it is in our very nature to act in our own self interest, and
those who oppose are only furthering themselves from the actual truth of morality. Because of this,
the lambs and the little lambs who consider themselves to be patient, humble, and righteous, are in
the wrong according to Nietzsche when they claim that, good is everyone who does not do
violence.., who

The Role Of Odysseus In Book VIII Of The Odyssey
Reading through Book VIII of The Odyssey, allowed the readers to understand more about the life
of Odysseus and its relation to the gods through the three songs that Demokos sings throughout the
chapter. Demokos sings three different songs with the main themes being adultery, betrayal, pain
and strategy. The first song was about a quarrel involving Odysseusand Achilles, presumably before
the Trojan Warbegan. On the other hand, the second song involved the story about the affair
between Ares and Aphrodite on Hephaistos. While the third song returned to Odysseus and the
story of the Trojan horse that resulted in the downfall of Troy. Although each song contains a
different story, the themes found in those songs allow a connection to be made between each of
them and related back to Odysseus.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quarrel might have been a result of tactics on how to defeat the Trojans. Agamemnon, felt
inward joy over his captains quarrel; for such had been foretold him by Apollo, (127). There is no
specific information given on the song but the quote demonstrates how Agamemnon was happy
with the arguing between his two captains and the role Apollo plays in the song. The theme of
betrayal can be foreshadowed in this song because of the emotional reaction of Odysseus. He might
feel he betrayed Achilles and that resulted in his death. It can be inferred that shortly after the
quarrel, something significant happened in the war against the Trojans or Demokos wouldn t have

A tessellation is when a shape is repeated over and over again, using transformations such as

who made many types of art, but is most known for his tessellations. He was born in 1898 in the

got bad grades, but he was very creative and great at drawing. He went to college to study
architecture, but didn t do very well so he switched to decorative arts. When Escher went on a
trip to Italy and Spain, he met Jetta Umiker, whom he ended up marrying. He then had 3 sons
named Giorgio, Arthur and Jan and lived in Italy. 11 years later, he decided to leave Italy and

son was forced to wear a Ballila uniform (an Italian fascist group). He didn t like the landscape of

What Is Krishna The God Of Hinduism
Krishna the God of Hinduism Krishna was one of the principal gods of Hinduism. He was the
god that the Hindu people looked up to in order to achieve their goals. Krishna was a loyal,
moral, and faithful person. Deeply, Krishna was admired by his devotees for his righteous mind
and his ethical model of behavior. How do people believe Krishnawas a reincarnation of Vishnu, the
god of preserver, and protector, the second god of the trinity? What special thing about Krishna
compare to other reincarnation of Vishnu. Krishna was the hope of deliverance and hopeless people.
Firstly, Krishna was born in jail where his mom Devaki and his dad Vasudeva was put into jail
by king Kamsa for the fear of being destroyed or killed by the eighth child of Devaki. He is
worshiped as the eighth avatar of the god Vishnu. Every sibling of Krishna was killed by Kamsa,
but Krishna survived from being killed. He was the reincarnation of Vishnu, Vishnu appeared
before Devaki and Vasudeva and told them he would return to earth by being born as their child
and will rescue them.
The rightful king of Mathura Ugrasen had been deposed by Kamsa. After Krishna was born the
father found himself freed from prison and fled to a safe house. Krishna removed any obstacles
that appeared before them on the way to the safe house. His foster parents Nanda and Yasoda took
care of Khrishna and loved him like he s their real son. Krishna was exchanged with a girl in a

The Role Of Zeus In Ancient Greek Mythology
Zeus was one of the main gods that was featured a lot in the Ancient Greece myths. He was the
King of the gods and ruled over the sky, his main symbol was the thunderbolt but others included
the eagle and oak tree. His roman counterpart was known as Jupiter or Jove. He appeared in most
myths even if they were about other gods often being the one to set the myth up or create the
conflict. He was portrayed as an all powerful protagonist and looked up to whereas today his
actions would be seen as selfish and narrow minded making him an antagonist.
He was the considered the King of the gods because he was the one to free them from Cronus grip.

She was the goddess of childbirth and marriage as well as being the Queen of the Gods. Her

as the greeks were monogamous, but this didn t stop him from having sexual relations outside
of his marriage. This was because he believed that he didn t need to abide to the laws of the
humans. Hera was often portrayed as being spiteful and jealous towards Zeus, because of his
constant infidelity. She often would seek revenge on the whomever he took a favour, as she
could not directly punish her husband as he had power over her. she would also wreck havoc on
the offspring that Zeus would have with over woman and those women themselves even if they
had been raped by Zeus. Zeus would often turn on her with violence if she nagged Zeus too
much, with one such occasion being when she and the other gods tied Zeus in ropes and plotted
to dispose of him. When he eventually got free she hung her by her wrists from the sky with
weights tied to her ankles. He eventually let her down when all of the other gods swore not on

his dominance, and to remind her that as the man of the relationship, he was the one with the power.

Essay about Rudolfo Anaya’s Bless Me, Ultima
Rudolfo Anaya s Bless Me, Ultima
In Rudolfo Anaya s Bless Me, Ultima, the author uses Tony s dreams as a way of displaying
various symbols. Three symbols that are used often are weather, water, and the Golden Carp.
Weather is used to represent conflict. Water represents cleansing, and rejuvenation. The Golden
Carp symbolizes religion and Tony s beliefs. Because dreams are not an exact mirror of reality,
they become the perfect tool for introducing symbolism. The author uses the dream as a way to
access the recurring themes of the book.
Weather affects the lives of everyone. When the weather turns foul, it makes life more difficult.

His desire is to be washed clean from the haunting memories if Lupito s death. Another reference
to water is the waters of baptism. In Tony s dream his parents argue about what water he was
baptized in. Oh please tell me which is the water that runs through my veins. (Anaya120) The
waters of baptism represent cleansing, but in the dream his parents argue over whether he was
baptized with the holy water of the moon, or the salt water from the oceans. This represents his
parent s pulling him in two opposite directions. Later in this dream Ultima explains to both of Tony
s parents that in reality both of their waters are the same. This shows that Tony is rejuvenated by
the idea that he dose not have to choose between one parent or another, but can take the best of
both of them. Because of the water Tony is able to live his life better. The final example of water
being usedas a symbol is in one of
Tony s final dreams. He talks about his brother s livers, They cried in such pain for release that I
took their livers from the hook and cast them into the raging, muddy waters of the River of the
Carp. Then they rested, and I rested. ( Anaya 235) This quote shows that because Antonio can not
stop his brothers from their reckless wondering he instead casts their livers in to the river.

The Theme of Heritage in “Everday Use” Essay
In her late twentieth century short story Everyday Use, African American writer Alice Walker
contrasts the struggle between the main characters involving the recurring theme. The story takes
place in a rural Georgia setting during the 1970s. The plot circulates around Mama, Maggie, and
Dee. Throughout, heritage develops and remains a central theme revolving them. Each of these
women in the Johnson familytries to stay true to heritage value. But different roles of heritage exist
between each woman, so their ways of achieving this mission differs. The story Everyday Use
exemplifies the various understandings and use of heritage through Mama, Maggie, and Dee.

Along with the name of Dee, Mama emphasizes heritage through the quilts. The mother
understands that the quilts represent her family heritage because they are composed of pieces
of the lives of previous generations (Andrews 3 of 4). Mama feels the true meaning of the family
quilts. The quilts represent tradition. Critic David Cowart reiterates the quote of Barbara
Christian which is heritage . . . must continually be renewed rather than fixed in the past . Thus
for mother heritage is living tradition manifested through homely skills, such as quilt making,
passed on (Cowart 4 of 7). Mama denies Dee of possessing the quilts and feels like she was
touched by the spirit of God in church (Farrell 4 of 5). She chooses Maggie to have the symbolic
quilts over Dee. By selecting Maggie Mrs. Johnson recognizes the quilt connection with her
(Piedmont Marton 9 of 13). Mama realizes that heritage must be kept up because the art will die
if women like Maggie do not keep it up (Cowart 4 of 7). Values of both daughters become factors
during the decision Mama makes. The mother is assigning proper weight to the virtues of Maggie
and to the ancestral importance of the pieced quilts (Baker Jr. and Pierce Baker 12 of 13). Thus,
emphasizes her concept of heritage, Mama selects the correct daughter.
Another Johnson family woman, Maggie, represents heritage by the way she characteristically
carries herself. Maggie and her

The Circular Ruins And Miles Davis s Kind Of Blue
The products of one s emotions, skill, and craftsmanship can take many different forms: art,
music, and even in some cases, people. Jorge Luis Borges in The Circular Ruins describes a man
painstakingly working to create a Dream Man just to find out that he is one himself. He, a
manifestation of someone else s efforts has the autonomy to inspire, or rather be inspired, to
create a new dream man. In Miles Davis s Kind of Blue, the work being created is spontaneous

Borges is describing the power of imagination and dreams in his story. He is stating that dreams
can come true if you focus and work hard enough towards them. This can be seen in the eventual
creation of the dreamed man, despite the sorcerer s struggles and changes of course. He simply
wanted to dream [a man] completely, in painstaking detail, and impose him upon reality (Borges
97) and he did just that. The sorcerer had come to fill his entire soul (Borges 97) and he spent all
of his energy upon completing his task. Borges argues that regardless of what stands in the way,
one can achieve what they put their mind to. In the process, there will be self discovery and it
may or may not be all that they wanted, but discovery will be made. The sorcerer is flooded with
relief, with humiliation, [and] with terror (Borges 100) when he realizes that he is also a
dreamed man. He makes a discovery about himself that is both threatening to his self image, but
also relieving because of his deeper self knowledge. Davis is pushing the envelope of jazz with

Persuasive Essay On Hairstyles
At the moment I ask myself, why are these schools dictating these kids hairstyles? Why can t a
boy dye his hair pink or have his hair over his collar, there is no real reason for this. You should
not be able to dictate these different hairstyles for the exact reason that we have our amendments
and laws that give us the freedom we rightly deserve. Also, there are some boys who might have
their hair long and you call that a violation, there is nothing wrong with a boy having his hair long.

things in order to represent culture or a cause. Different and unusual things are meant to be

HIPAA Compliance Essay
HIPAA Compliance
If you are in the healthcare industry, you have probably heard some rumblings about the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, coolly referred to as HIPAA. The word is
your medical practice will have to be HIPAA compliant by April 2003, but you re not exactly sure
what this act mandates or how to accomplish it. In very basic terms, HIPAA has two primary
components to which hospitals, health plans, healthcare clearinghouses, and healthcare providers
must conform: 1) Administrative simplification, which calls for use of the same computer language
industry wide; 2) Privacy protection, which requires healthcare providers to take reasonable
measures to protect patients written, oral, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
HIPAA doesn?t necessarily prescribe the solutions, but it does require physicians to look at all of
the ways that they use and access data today and determine whether that?s reasonable or not. to
help you begin your HIPAA complianceprocess, following are some practical ideas for rethinking
how you maintain and use patient information in your office. Appoint one or two staff members
(depending on the size of your office) to review the HIPAA act, determine the changes your
practice needs to make, and decide if you?ll need outside help. To keep this project manageable,
do not wait until the last minute. Remember: most of the healthcare industry will have to be
HIPAA compliant by April 14, 2003. Furthermore, compliance is not optional. Those found in
violation of the act will be penalized: Civil penalties range up to $25,000 per violation of each
standard. Criminal penalties range up to $250,000 in fines and/or up to 10 years in prison. 3
An important part of HIPAA is the minimum use standard, which mandates that healthcare
providers use and disclose patient information in ways that are minimally necessary to
accomplish the task. For example, a billing clerk does not need access to a patient?s entire
medical history to bill for a service rendered, says Hole Curry. Therefore, you may want to divide
patient files into sections, having an office policy that clearly states who may access each section.
Consider converting to pocket style classification folders,

What Is The Theme Of Dreams From My Father
In former U.S. President Barack Obama s memoir, Dreams from my Father, he explains his
background and key events that happened in his life that helped shape him be the leader he is
today. From the first day he entered the public sphere, Barack Obama has been a lightning rod for
criticism and derision. Much of that derision has come as a result of the former president s
background. Some have disputed the legitimacy of his background and others have accused him of
being either an atheism or a Muslim. While Barack Obamas life has been dissected and has often
been the subject of unfair treatment by his political opponents and the public at large, his

He was a black kid with a white mother experiencing the heartland of America. He developed an
appreciation for the ways of life these people lived. Surely, because of his background, his mother,
and who he was, he was treated in many respects like a valued member of every community where
he found himself. Still, he was able to talk in a more intimate way about the racial issues in the
United States because he had seen both sides of the tracks, so to speak. Obama writes about how
he viewed himself as being both black and white. His mother was the person he cared for the
most, and like most kids, he lived a pretty normal experience with his grandparents. This caused
him not to see his grandparents as old white people, but rather, as people close to him that loved
him. In addition, his ethnicity caused him to make friends of many different types, which helped
him later form a better perspective on the issues of various groups. As he wrote, To avoid being
mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The
foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk rock
performance poets (Obama 100).

Many non profit and all profit making organizations must also set prices. Pricing is controversial
and goes by many names: Price is all around us. You pay rent for your apartment, tuition for your

The Use Of Pesticides And Growth Hormone
Sara Richards Professor Phil 305 Intro: With the world s population continuing to increase, the
demand for food is higher than ever. A growing population means more demand on food. The
world population will rise to 9.3 billion in 2050 and surpass 10 billion by the end of this century.
(Sanyal) This should say something about our growing population that is still continuing to grow
to this day. This increase in food demand also calls for more efficient ways of growing and
providing food without causing any damage to our environment or our health. Two methods that
can be effective for this demand are the organic and conventional method. Decision: Its unethical
for conventional farmers to use of pesticides and growth hormone to multiply their products faster
and bigger than organic farmers. Meanwhile while these conventional farmers make millions in
their products, millions of people are deprived from a healthy diet by choosing to support organic
farmers. The reason against the Claim: The influence conventional farmers have on consumers.
While many people want to support the organic method because of its known benefits but they
also feel that it is just another way to cheat consumers out of their money. However, studies have
proven that conventional fruits, vegetables, and even drinks are cheaper than organic. With the
world population growing larger and larger we need efficient way to provide food for everyone
with reasonable price. Even though it is more efficient to

Malware ( Malicious Software )
The Internet has extended its reach over the last 15 20 years, so is malware (malicious software).
Also it has evolved and become more complex and applying new tricks every day. Early forms of
malware sought to generate attacks on basic areas of computer systems, but today its aims are
increasingly evil, focusing on theft and other illicit activities. Malwarehas become much more of a
concern for organizations; Today, in addition to individual computers and the networks of
organizations both large and small, Internet connectivity also extends to devices such as gaming
consoles and smartphones. And as computing architectures shift, protecting organizations,
governments, and citizens from malware has become even more of a challenge for network experts.
How malware has evolved; including new attack tricks
Malware became known to many computer users through widespread infections caused by
Melissa (in 1999) and LoveLetter (in 2000). Both were email based, and LoveLetter spread via an
infected email attachment. When the attachment was opened, the malware overwrote a variety of
different types of files on the user s PC and emailed itself to others in the user s email address book.
The developer(s) of those malwares applied very simple and easy tricks that could exploit the user
without creating any suspicion. Melissa was relatively easy to create and attacked weaknesses in
important and popular technologies that could be exploited again with even more serious results. For

Dissection Alternatives Essay
Dissection Alternatives
Dissection in science classrooms is an experience that almost every student has to go through, but
one that many will regret. It is estimated that six million vertebrate animals are dissected in high
schools each year, and another 5.7 million are used in college laboratories. The issue of educational
dissection has become a national concern. Many groups such as PETA and The Humane Society
have been lobbying for years to outlaw such practices, and implement new and safe dissection
alternatives. Alternatives to dissection have become more popular in recent decades and may be
the future of modern science and education.

They ruled that under her First Amendment rights Jennifer could object to the dissection on moral
grounds, and therefore could not be forced to participate. Jennifer s high school then instated a
student choice policy so that students who chose not to participate in dissections would be offered
a viable alternative. Now there are seven states that have informed consent laws regarding
classroom dissection: Florida, California, Maine, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Rhode Island, and New
York. These laws require that students must be informed of a dissection lab at the beginning of a
course, and if they wish, will be provided with an alternative. There are also two states where it is
mandatory that students are provided with dissection alternatives: Maryland, and Illinois.
There are also several nations that have banned educational dissection from their science
curriculums. Argentina was the first in 1987, followed by Slovakia (1994), and Israel (1999). And
in 2001, India banned the use of mice, rats, and frogs for any type of dissection purposes.
The main issue with statewide dissection laws is that they only apply to elementary, middle, and
high schools. Colleges and Universities are not required to follow each state s policy. This can
create many problems. At one particular University, the student choice policy for dissection may
very from department to department or even from teacher to teacher. This can be very confusing and

Primary Equity Markets And Secondary Equity Market Essay
The stock market is divided in two different markets called the Primary Equity Market and the
Secondary Equity Market. Primary Equity Market: The primary market is used for offering
new equity issues. This market provides companies a way to generate new fund for the business
purpose. Here, the transaction is conducted between the issuer and the investor. For example,
IPO is one way of the primary market where a company sell stocks to the public for the first time.
Capital can be raised in primary market by following ways: 1.Public issue When a company
raises funds by selling its shares to the public through issue of offer document, it is called a
public issue. It can be of two types: a.Initial Public Offer b.Further public offer Initial Public
Offer: When an unlisted company makes a public issue for the first time and gets its shares
listed on stock exchange, the public issue is called as initial public offer (IPO). An IPO brings in
new investors to a firm, which facilitates the firm s access to future growth capital. Being public
also reduces the costs of raising future capital by stimulating the supply of information from the
investment community. Further public offer: When a listed company makes another public issue
to raise capital, it is called follow on offer (FPO). Indian IPO Market Several IPO mechanisms have
been experimented in India. There are two options available for a firm while undergoing IPO
process fixed price and book building. Until

The Pros And Cons Of Violent Video Games
Politicians and gamers have been arguing about violent video games for years now. There are
many solutions to this controversy; however, there are two good solutions that are good for this
argument. When they see a minor playing violent video games, they can solve this problem by
enacting one, to follow the ESRB rating, or two, to allow the parents to make the final decision to
decide whether they should allow their child to playa certain gameor not. Parents should do more
research and try out the gamesfor themselves if they think that a game is not good for their child.
If a parent isn t doing any research on the game that he or she are buying for their children, how
will they know if it s right for them? Good parenting is what allows a child to grow up knowing
that he or she are being allowed to play games that are right for them, so they don t get

can t handle these games. Whether the ESRB rating is enacted, and a minor plays a game with

need to actively assess their child in relationship to the game in question ( Leviathyn Freese.)

The Importance Of An Official Language
America does not have an official language and it does not need one. In his article Why the U.S.
Needs an Official Language, Mauro Mujica provides the pros and cons to having an official
language. The problem with having an official language is greater than the savings that would
result from requiring official documents to be only in one language. Establishing English as the
official language presents a moral issue that contradicts American beliefs and values. An English
only culture conflicts with the notion of a free country based on the guarantee of freedom of
speech, the value of diversity rooted in the idea that America is an nation of immigrants, and would
in the end divide rather than bring together the nation. Although some believe that having an
official language would benefit the U.S. economically, this would actually cause distress to
immigrants. Mauro Mujica lists the cost of multilingualism, and states that for instance, Los
Angeles county spends $3.3 million to print election ballots in seven languages, Medicare or
Medicaid must pay $500 dollars per translator, and says workers that speak little English cost cities
and states a large amount in misunderstandings (Mujica,174 175). However, the analysis of cost
overlooks the value of translators. For example, In one of my classes yesterday a student had a
seizure and only the students that spoke his language were able to assist. When the seizure began
no one around him could communicate with him.

Importance Of Human Factors In Aviation
Introduction Human factors is the study of Human behaviour that has roughly been around for
2000 years. The study is based on how Humans behave physically and psychologically. In
Aviation, human factors have been applied since the last 70 years. The definition of human
factors from the point of aviation, means the same but in respect to the ergonomics of
technology and the flight crew, within the aircraft. The information is then converted into

educated personnel are taught not to ever rely on luck, when it comes to safety. It all comes down
to the welfare of the individual, the welfare of the company that associates with the individual and
the family of the individual. That is the reason why safety is so critical and is one of the very first
things that is taught in every class, job or even at home. This

Special Populations In Education
This research paper is parallel with my thematic core and curriculum because it based on
inadequately youth which falls under Special Populations. Special populations in education are
groups of people with needs that require special consideration and attention in an educational
setting. Students can belong to more than one special population at a time. While no two students
will ever have identical needs, awareness of the special populations in educationwill help you
understand the challenges your students may be facing and develop ways of meeting them
(Online). Passionate to be an advocate for the inadequately youth, I need to be knowledgeable and
aware of the statistics language and social skills have upon economically disadvantaged students.

Player Piano Research Paper
What happens when you mix an accomplished Writer/Director, a gifted Composer/Pianist, and
Youtube? You get Player Piano a sensational duo made up of Tom Grey and Sonya Belousova.
Together these two artists create music videos that put a classical spin on popular songs and
soundtrack themes. Their YouTube channel has over 100,000 subscribers and well over 5,000,000
views. I had the chance to talk with them about their success, music, and the production of their
music videos.
Together Tom Grey and Sonya Belousova make up Player Piano, could you tell us how this all got
started?
Tom: It began a few years ago when I was the head producer for comic book legend Stan Lee s
(Marvel) YouTube Channel: World of Heroes. I was looking for a new show... Show more content

Most seem to be video game themed. Is this because people want to hear that type of music or do
you have a particular interest in it?
Tom: Yes and no. I know I certainly have an interest in video game themes as I grew up in the 8
bit generation and there is a great deal of nostalgia associated with those themes. But in reality
most of the themes we ve done are based off of movies and TV. At the moment it feels like we
focus on videogames because we just released the 8 bit themes album. That particular album was
a perk that we offered our supporters during a crowdfund campaign that we wrapped up in
January. But going forward, it will be a healthy mix of all kinds of music.
Sonya: So far we have released two albums. The first one was a compilation of various
arrangements of Film/TV scores like Doctor Who and Ghost Waltz (main title of Stepford
Wives), Anime scores like Akira, classical pieces like Montagues and Capulets from Romeo and
Juliet by Sergey Prokofiev, popular songs like Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and video games
like Street Fighter and Tetris. As Tom mentioned, our second 8 bit Themes Piano Album was in
fact a perk we offered during our indiegogo campaign. Tom is a huge fan of video games. I belong
more to the Film/TV world. However, I had a blast arranging all those 8 bit video game songs for
the album. Overall, we re trying not to focus on any particular genre but to stay as diverse

The company believes that demands from international markets will increase in future. Nike must
cater to a large portion of the new generation that demands the latest trends and styles. Nike should
take into account the changing US demographics due to the rising proportion of Hispanics, Asians,
and African Americans. These groups have different preferences that Nike should be able to satisfy.
Nike should identify the next generation of loyal customers and provide for their needs.
COMPETITION Who are the companies or brands with which the organization or brand competes?
What are their sales and market share trends? How do their approaches to the market differ from the
organizations, and from each other? Are there any specific weaknesses in any competitors that can
be turned into opportunities? Are there any specific strength that are major threats? What
adjustments have been made? Succeeded or not? What other changes are being contemplated?
Why? Competition is very fierce due to the number of companies competing for sales. Lots of
money goes to marketing and promotions using various channels to reach the young demographic
group of consumers who spend the most money on Nike s products. Growth is slowing down in the
athletic footwear industry. But new markets are emerging with high growth rates. These markets
include extreme sports market and the corporate merchandise market.
Nike s global market share was an impressive 30.4% in 1998. The

Holi is probably the least religious of Hindu holidays. During Holi, people attend a public
bonfire at eve of Holi. Next day, people spray color powder and color water to friend and family.
Some parts of India people also drink Bhang, a milk base drink with marijuana. The history
behind Holi is evil king named Hiranyakashipu. He forbade his son Prahlad from worshipping
Vishnu, but Radhu continued to do offer prayers to the god. Getting angry with his son,
Hiranyakashipu challenged Prahlad to sit on a pyre with his wicked aunt Holika who was
believed to be immune to fire. Prahlad accepted the challenge and prayed to Vishnu to keep him
safe. When the fire started, everyone watched in amazement as Holika was burnt to death, while
Prahlad survived without a scar to show for it. The burning of Holika is celebrated as Holi (Holi

  • 2. Limitations Of Video As A Learning Tool 2.1.2: Limitations of Video as a Learning Tool Although video has become prevalent in education, some argue that the very presence of video inhibits learning. Salomon (1984) measured sixth graders preconceptions of the ease or difficulty when processing print or video based lessons. He discovered that lower mental effort was extended with the television lesson, perceiving television as easy, and print as tough, thus requiring more mental exertion. He stated, It stands to reason that when subjects face a task they perceive to be easy relative to their abilities, their investment of effort decreases and no additional effort expenditure is needed to perform the task that is perceived to be well mastered (Salomon, 1984: 694). Thus viewers perceive videos as less demanding and invest less mental effort into processing the information as a result, which negatively influences their learning achievement (Saloman, 1984). However, since Salomon s work others have conducted research to determine what other effects could influence a learner s invested mental effort. The category and subject matter of the content also impacted a viewer s intention to learn from the video material. Kunkel and Kovaric (1983) discovered that learners view educational content as more serious than entertainment, and subsequently, altered their motivation to process either information. By analysing college students and their preconceptions of television shows produced for the Public Broadcasting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Theory Of Consciousness And The Body When the word consciousness is used regarding human beings, the word itself usually implies that those individuals are conscious of being conscious. Many individuals assume that the mind, the brain, and the body react as one. But the idea of the mind is not related to the concept of the brain or the body. These differences allow philosophers to determine a people s consciousnessin the world around them. Individuals derive the concept of consciousness from their experience because consciousness itself comes from one s youth. Consciousness can be described as an individual s ability to become aware of his or her surroundings including both the external and internal world which they are present in. The idea of consciousness can be explained by obtaining something simple and changing it into something complex, also known as the emergent property. The process of emergent property can be achieved in two steps that allow philosophers to determine who and what possess consciousness. The process of changing matter into energy, which is the first step of the emergent property, combines subatomic particles in a specific structure to form atoms. The final step of the emergent property process occurs when those atoms combine to form a more complex form. In humans, as a whole, the most complex combination of atoms develops to process the brain s activity and is known as the central nervous system. But because the mind is not correlated with the brain, humans can be aware of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Pecola Chapter 3 Analysis Initially, as I read this quote, I began to sympathize with Pecola and the plight she faces as an African American female. This is the first time in the novel we are exposed to the desire Pecola vehemently prays for daily, this desire being blue eyes. The reason I sympathized for the girl beyond the fact that attaining blue eyes for her would be impossible, is because she blames her blue lacking eye color, or her ugliness as she classifies it as, as a way to justify everything that has gone wrong in her life. Take, for instance, Cholly, her dad, and her mother, Mrs. Breedlove s fights. Even though their fights arise from the problems they have between themselves, Pecola continues to believe that her ugliness has struck her with not only undesirable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The beginning of Chapter 3 provided insight into the violent nature of Pecola s parents as well as a good amount of dialogue that provides a strong image that I can use to characterize them with. The dialogue spoken by her parents is English deeply rooted in African American slang and culture, full of local color. Knowing this, I was astounded when I drew the parallel that Pecola established in the example quote above when she was imagining how life would be if she were to have blue eyes. When she pictures her parents reactions if she did exhibit the trait of blue eyes in her head, she imagines their dialogue as less slang and gives it a more formal, proper form of diction. I found this to be interesting because, in my mind, she is creating a correlation between the Caucasian feature she yearns for and the language and behavior of her parents if she were to possess this trait. It almost seems that she has ingrained so deep into her mind the beauty of blue eyes that anything and everything that she could associate them with, including language and how one speaks, even appeals to ... • 6. Analysis Of The Book David s Absalom David (Goliath; Jonathan; Bathsheba; Absalom) David was the youngest out of 8 brothers and the one God chose to be the next king of Israelites after King Saul, the current ruler. The Israelites did not get along with the Philistines and in the Philistines, there was a giant named Goliath who challenged the people of Israelite to fight him so they there would stop being conflict. No one wanted to fight this scary giant but Davidvolunteered. He grabbed a sling shot and 5 stones and as Goliath was teasing him for being so little, he shot Goliath between the eyes and Goliath fell, defeating the giant. Then, David met Jonathan, and as soon as they finished talking, their souls were entwined. Since Jonathan loved him, he gave David his sword, bow, and belt and as a result whenever David was sent out on the missions that Saul put him in, he was very successful. However, in the spring time when all the kings go off to war, David remained behind in Jerusalem where he spotted a beautiful young woman named Bathsheba, who unfortunately was married to Uriah the Hittite. David tricked Uriah into staying at the kingdom where he got him drunk and placed Uriah in the line of fire, killing him. David told Bathsheba where she mourned her husband but then she slept with David and bore him a son. While all of that was happening, Absalom was up early and greeting the townspeople, receiving their trust and loyalty. • 7. Textual Critical Problems Of The Old Testament Deuteronomy 32:8 and Genesis 49:10 are two examples of textual critical problems in the Old Testament. The phrase sons of God will be examined in Deuteronomy 32:8, and the word Shiloh in Genesis 49:10. These issues have caused much debate as to how one should interpret these verses in light of the textual critical problems. This paper will examine both passages and provide solutions to each of the textual critical issues. Deuteronomy 32:8 Deuteronomy 32:8 has caused controversy because of the phrase ЧќЧ™Ч”ЧњЧђ Ч™Ч Ч‘ or ЧќЧ™ЧњЧђ Ч™Ч Ч‘ sons of God. Some have postulated that this reading renders the Israelite religion to be polytheistic instead of monotheistic. Therefore, translators have changed the Scripture to read sons of Israel (NIV, NASB), children of Israel (KJV), or people of Israel (HCSB). Dr. Heiser has persuasively argued that the translation sons of God is the correct reading of the original Hebrew text, and should be translated that way in our English Bibles for a number of reasons. A few examples will be examined to show that sons of God is the correct translation of Deuteronomy 32:8. First, manuscript evidence is crucial when interpreting a text that has caused there to be textual criticism. There are more manuscripts that interpret Deuteronomy 32:8 to read sons of Israel, but that does not mean that should be the correct translation. Dr. Heiser makes it clear that one cannot determine the meaning of a text by the number of manuscripts. One must evaluate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anzac Day Having a well defined set of values, principles and rules in the company s Code of Conduct helps employees in knowing the difference between right and wrong, and holds them fully accountable on any wrongdoing. Therefore, every company must have a clear Code of Conduct and must communicate it to all the employees. Based on Scott McIntyre s case and other media companies COC, SBS has to adopt an updated COC composed of precise rules and standards. Scott McIntyre s post regarding inappropriate and disrespectful comments about Anzac Day is not an act that is mentioned clearly as a restriction in SBS s key principles. Thus, this ambiguity created the misunderstanding of rules and values between SBS and the reporter. Therefore, it is crucial to elaborate more on the principles. On the other hand, the other media companies adopt a stronger COC. The first example is Los Angeles Times: one of their basic principles is to always merge the professional life with the personal one especially when using social media because the reporter should not, in any way, embarrass the company or let the viewers question its authenticity and impartiality. Even when using strict privacy settings, the reporter should always keep in mind that everything posted or shared on social media is considered public. The second example is the independence outside work in NPR s COC: it is mentioned that the reporters comments and reactions should be guided by their news reporting, not by their personal point of views. With the concept of morality comes the idea of moral behavior that we have adopted in today s age, such as: generosity, kindness, truthfulness, integrity, loyalty, commitment, open mindedness, and dependability. The controversial issue that come from these so called morals, is that these values have had an flip, opening the gate to two types of moralitysystems that have had us wondering if our morality system has helped or ruined us. A growing population means more demand on food. The world population will rise to 9.3 billion in 2050 and surpass 10 billion by the end of this century. (Sanyal) This should say something about our growing population that is still continuing to grow to this day. Jennifer s high school then instated a student choice policy so that students who chose not to participate in dissections would be offered a viable alternative. Now there are seven states that have informed consent laws regarding classroom dissection: Florida, California, Maine, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Rhode Island, and New York. These laws require that students must be informed of a dissection lab at the beginning of a course, and if they wish, will be provided with an alternative. There are also two states where it is mandatory that students are provided with dissection alternatives: Maryland, and Illinois. In his article Why the U.S. Needs an Official Language, Mauro Mujica provides the pros and cons to having an official language. The problem with having an official language is greater than the savings that would result from requiring official documents to be only in one language. Establishing English as the official language presents a moral issue that contradicts American beliefs and values. An English only culture conflicts with the notion of a free country based on the guarantee of freedom of speech, the value of diversity rooted in the idea that America is an nation of immigrants, and would in the end divide rather than bring together the nation. Although some believe that having an official language would benefit the U.S. economically, this would actually cause distress to immigrants. Mauro Mujica lists the cost of multilingualism, and states that for instance, Los Angeles county spends $3.3 million to print election ballots in seven languages, Medicare or Medicaid must pay $500 dollars per translator, and says workers that speak little English cost cities and states a large amount in misunderstandings (Mujica,174 175). However, the analysis of cost overlooks the value of translators. For example, In one of my classes yesterday a student had a seizure and only the students that spoke his language were able to assist. When the seizure began no one around him could communicate with him. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
