Marbled Crayfish Research Paper
Over 25 years ago, a new species was discovered that completely shocked the world, a crayfish like no
other, named the marbled crayfish. As their name suggests, they include an alluring brown colored
marbled pattern, which is identical from individual to individual. To this day, the marbled crayfish is
more diverse than any other crayfish because it is able to clone itself without any involvement of a
male, in a matter of hours. This crayfish is new mutant species which has generated immense concern
as a potential invasive species. What really shocks the scientists is the fact that they can reproduce at
extraordinary rates from 250 to 300 clones in a few months and are already spreading rapidly
throughout the globe. This creature was never

Lies, Betrayal, And Cjucible In The Story Of The Crucible...
Imagine a town of lies, betrayal, and witchcraft. Well, that s exactly what took place throughout the
story of the Crucible. Throughout the text, there was a series of drama and deceit leaving the audience
wanting for more. The Crucible included plenty of arguments that soon ended up in the courts. In the
Crucible there are continuous lies leaving the town in confusion. While in court the people in town are
found fighting for their lives. While some may be sentenced to prison and others are sentenced to
death. Throughout the play, there has been a secret affair going on between the characters Abigail
Williams and John Proctor. As you should know Abigail is only seventeen years old as she as sneaking
around with the married John Proctor who is several years older than her. After sneaking around for
some time now the secret is out. Abigail was known to be the young housekeeper of the Proctor
household. Until Elizabeth Proctor found out about her husband affair with this young keeper and
fired young Abigail. After several arguments and lies, Proctor finally decided to admit to his wife
about his affair with young Abigail Williams. Elizabeth eventually forgave her husband and when
their time was up for their court hearing she even considered lying for her husband. The truth was out
and Proctor still continued to lie on the behalf of trying to save himself. While in court Proctor claims
that young Abigail William wanted Elizabeth Proctor to be hanged so that she can

India And Its Impact On The World
India is one of the oldest civilizations in the world and dates back to 2500 BC. India is located in
Southern Asia and has the second largest population in the world with over 1.2 billion inhabitants.
India s culture began flourishing during the Golden Age during the 4th century AD. Today India has a
very vibrant and colorful culture that is easily recognized throughout the world.
Attitudes and Values The attitudes and values that many Indians have is heavily influenced by their
religion and their history. The prominent religion is Hinduism, which focuses on nirvana and being
selfless. Today many Indians embrace being part of a group and maintaining harmony. Indians also
value cooperation, this is because in the past cooperation was a ... Show more content on

Red is also the color that brides typically wear on their wedding day. Another color that is seen
throughout the Indian culture is black, which is used to ward off evil. Often times when infants many
Indians received a black dot on their chin to ward off any evil spirits. White is also an important color
in Indian culture. It is the color that is worn at a funeral celebration and is the only color widows are
allowed to wear. Some of the other colors that are seen in the Indian culture are blue, green, and
yellow. Each of these colors have different meanings depending on religious beliefs.
Language
India has fourteen official languages but the most widely spoken in Hindi with over 41% of the
population speak it as their primary language. The second most spoken language is Bengali with 8.1%
followed by Teluga with 7.2%. The other eleven languages include Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Gujarati,
Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya , Punjabi, Assamese, Maithili, and other native tongue. English is also
spoken in India but is used mostly in national and political communication.
Religion
Many of the cultural traditions found in India can be traced back to religion. India is known to be the
land of spirituality and is the birthplace to four of the world s major religions; these include Hinduism,
Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. In India there are four prominent religions but they are not the same
as the ones founded there. The largest religion in India is Hinduism with about

Resting Membrane Potential Of Orconectes Lab Report
This experiment seeks to analyze how the resting membrane potential of Orconectes rusticus muscle
cells changes in response to increasing [K+]o solution concentrations. By recording the intracellular
voltage of the DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle cells at six concentrations of [K+]o solution,
we determined whether the observed resting membrane potentials (Vrest) were significantly different
from the predicted Nernst equilibrium potential values. We hypothesized that the Vrest of the crayfish
muscles at each concentration would not significantly differ from the Nernst potential, which solely
considers the permeability of potassium ions to the cell membrane. However, our findings suggested
differently, and results indicated that the Nernst equation did not accurately predict the obtained values
of the resting membrane potential. The differences in muscle cell Vrest reveal instead that the
membrane is differentially permeable to other ions. I. Introduction: ... Show more content on

Both electrical and chemical forces combine to determine the resting membrane potential of the cell.
Although the resting membrane potential of most cells is normally negative, the selective permeability
of the membrane allows certain ions in and out, causing the neuronal membrane voltage to become
depolarized (more positive), or hyperpolarized (more negative). Key ions involved in muscle
membrane potential are sodium, potassium, and chloride, which move via passive or active diffusion
through ion channels and transporter pumps (Baierlein et al. 2011). The Nernst equation predicts the
membrane voltage based on the assumption that the membrane is only permeable to one type of ion.
In this investigation, we are seeking to understand the basis for how different ions interact to produce
the membrane potential of DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle

What Is The Optimisation Of The Diode Wavelength For...
As various constituents in the extract will show maximum absorbance at different wavelengths; the
optimisation of the UV wavelength for detection of analytes is rerquired such that be able to detect
maximum number of well resolved peaks. Diode array is an ultraviolet detection technique where an
array of diodes is used to monitor the full UV range simultaneously. Therefore, it provides a UV
spectrum at any time point during the analysis. Looking at the 3D PDA; the detector takes a range of
wavelengths from 190nm to 800nm which is indicated on Y axis; while the time taken for the analytes

The Wars Analysis
War is a dangerous game, many people would likely agree to this, however, very few have ever seen a
battlefront. The truth is that war, no matter how awful we can imagine it, is always exponentially
worse. In Timothy Findley s The Wars, Robert Ross, the protagonist, faces a situation that he finds
difficult to come to terms with, and when faced with a similar situation later on in the novel, he must
take drastic measures to reconcile the uncertainties of the past situation. Timothy Findley suggests,
through the life of Robert Ross, that one s need to reconcile the uncertainties of past experiences
dominate our actions when such situations come up again in our lives. In the words of Hiram Johnson,
a US Senator during the First World War, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following his rape, he starts to do what he feels is right, and in one case, goes directly against direct
orders to stand for what he believes in, as well as to reconcile everything he s been through as a
soldier; the violence, the pain, and everything that has emotionally and physically scarred him. Once
Robert is back in the battle, there is another, worse attack on the Canadian lines by the Germans. They
are being rained on by shells, and Robert fears for the lives of the horses in a nearby barn that is being
hit by the shelling, and which Robert fears will collapse at any moment. Over the course of the war,
Robert has grown more and more attached to horses, and it s in his benevolent nature to care for other
animals. When Robert tells Captain Leather that he will go back to the barn to save the horses, Leather
refuses, saying that it is not necessary. Robert, thinking back to the last time he wanted to go against
Captain Leather s orders, and what arose when he didn t, realizes that he must go against his orders
and free the horses. As Robert is running back to the barn to free the horses, Leather screams at him to
stop what he is doing and to follow his orders, but Robert is determined. When Leather pulls his gun

Examples Of Punishments In Dante s Inferno
Inferno written by Durante degli Alighieri, most famously known as Dante was a poem about Dante s
own vision of Hell. Dante s Hell had nine levels or circles of sins. The nine circles were categorized
from the least worst sin (circle one) to the very worst sin (circle nine). Each level of sin had it s own
punishments. The punishments in Inferno match their sins according to the type and level of
rottenness. Each punishment fit the crime. Good examples of fitting punishments are shown in the
first, second, and third circles of Hell.
The first circle of Hell is named Limbo. This circle holds non Christians, philosophers, and people
who were never baptized. This is the least sinful according to Dante. Since this is the least sinful circle

Slang As A Symbol Of A Winter Wonderland, The Holidays,...
As a symbol of a winter wonderland, the holidays, individuality, and beauty, snowflakes elicit feelings
of warmth and happiness from within one s soul. However, the usage of this word has deviated from
its usual meaning of a winter phenomenon, and has maneuvered its way into derogatory social and
political slang throughout history. It has been used as a means to call out those that have disputed the
Peculiar Institution, a way to dehumanize African Americans, and now, a generalization of a
hypersensitive Millennial generation. Through this essay, the history of the term s slang use will be

divide among Republicans and Democrats across America leading to back and forth bantering about
their political views. In a time of such political tension the term snowflake was revived as a jab
towards their opponents. In February, the hashtag #HowToSpotASnowflake was trending on Twitter,
fueling comments such as, #HowToSpotASnowflake They show up to march in a protest but when
interviewed, they don t know what they re protesting (Pignataro par. 4). Another target of the slander
are Millennials, as they are constantly berated with the term by members of the older generation such
as Claire Fox and Marc Thiessen for being egocentric, having an inaccurate portrayal of the first
amendment, and being unable to accept opinions that contradict theirs. Nonetheless, this label isn t
meant to characterize a specific age, race, or political group, but it can be applied to anyone. A
possible candidate for the perfect snowflake is President Donald Trump. Prior to serving as the 45th

Marketing Strategy Of Walt Disney World
Walt Disney once said, All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. Walt
Disney was one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time, a man who took a dream and pursued
it, making a worldwide famous company, Walt Disney World. This paper will look at the history,
financial situations, and marketing strategy of Walt Disney World. As Walt would say, Sit back and
enjoy!
In the early 1960s, Walt Disney wanted to give the residents of Eastern United States the opportunity
to enjoy the entertainment that was being offered at his California s Disneyland theme park. Walt and
his team the WED Enterprises settled on picking Florida as the new parks location. Florida offered
weather that was similar year round, and was already the number one location for tourism. The
announcement of the idea was delivered on November 16, 1965 at an Orlando press conference.
Sadly, Walt Disney passed in December of 1967, leaving behind his dream for the park. However,
President Roy O. Disney, Donn B. Tatum, and E. Cardon Walker, the top three executives for the
company carried on the plans to open the new park. After many months of construction and planning,
the park held its grand opening October 1, 1971. Since then there have been many additions and
openings in the park, new traditions made, parades, and special guests attending. Walt Disney World
became a part of the renowned world of entertainment and entertains millions every year. The Walt

Analysis Of The Short Stories Lady With A Pet Dog

English 102
September 13,2015 Lady with the Pet Dog The short stories Lady with the Pet Dog written by Chekov
and Lady with a Pet Dog written by Oates demonstrate the relationship between a young woman,
Anna , and her lover. The authors use two different points of view as well as Anna s behaviors,
motives and feelings in an attempt to convey a sense of understanding. Neither Chekove nor Oates
evoke a sense of sympathy towards Anna as she struggles to justify her actions. Firstly, Anna uses her
unsatisfactory marriage to justify her affair. In Chekhov uses my husband may be a good, honest man,
but he is a flunkey! (Chekov 227) to indicate that Anna has an estranged marriage. Although Anna has
not obtained an ideal marriage, she shows that she does indeed care about her husband ... and begging
his wife to return home as soon as possible. Anna Sergeyevna made haste to go (Chekov 228). Chekov
uses the fact that Anna rushes home in order to show that she still loves her husband. After all, if she
did not, she would not have rushed home. Although Oates writes from Anna s point of view, the author
still shows similarities with Chekhov s version. I love you, her husband said fiercely, angrily. She shut
her eyes and thought of that other man. (Oates 239). In

Abstract In this paper two set of edge texture features is proposed such as Discriminative Robust
Local Binary Pattern (DRLBP) and Discriminative Robust Local Ternary Pattern (DRLTP) for object
recognition. The proposed DLBP and DRLTP are derived from the drawback of the Local Binary
Pattern (LBP), Local Ternary Pattern (LTP) and Robust LBP (RLBP).The LBP code and the RLBP
code are mapped in the same block .The proposed feature solves the problem of discrimination
between a bright object against dark background and vice versa. The proposed feature retains contrast
information for representation of object contours the LBP, LTP and RLBP discards. By this proposed
features the objects in the image can be further analyzed for the exact location of the object in the
given image.

The Cultural Icon Of The 20th Century Essay
Amber Gentile 12 December 2016 Period 2 Albert Einstein The Cultural Icon from the 20th Century
Albert Einstein once said I want to know God s thoughts, the rest are details . Einstein wanted an
equation that would encapsulate all physical laws. To put the beauty and the power of the universe into
a single equation was his life s goal. Although Einstein s name is now synonymous with genius, his
professors would have never predicted him to be this successful as he would always cut class, and he
could not get a single job after graduating. Einstein thought he was such loser that he wrote a letter to
his family saying perhaps it would be better if he was never born. His father had to apply on behalf of
Einstein for academic positions, but they all said there were no positions available. His father passed
away thinking that Einstein was a total disgrace to the family. In 1902 Einstein moved to Switzerland,
and began a career far from science. One of his friends got him a job to be a patent clerk in the Swiss
patent office. He spent six days a week reviewing applications submitted by inventors to the Swiss
government. He had to analyze the patents and strip them to their essence, which honed his skills as a
physicist. Since it was not intellectually demanding it would give him ample time to contemplate the
universe. Einstein s daydreams would change the way the universe was understood. In 1905 in what
has been called his miracle year, he publishes in his spare time four

Gun Violence In America
Gun Violence in the United States of America
Every day there is another story in the news about excessive gun violence, accidents with guns
involving children who found loaded guns in the house or unnecessary gun violence by police forces.
Due to the US allowing and making it so easy for citizens to have guns and for their security forces to
shoot without strict rules or consequences, lots of innocent people are killed without having any way
to defend themselves.
ICCPR
US is in violation of their human rights obligations under article 6 of the ICCPR right to life because it
s not protecting the lives of its citizens, it is allowing excessive gun violence (by police forces) and it
has insufficient violations of guns by people who are not even supposed to possess guns. The US is
especially in violation because it fails to control its police department on the use of gun violence.
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) is an international treaty, which
entered into force 23 March 1976. The United States of America signed the treaty in 1977 and ratified
it in 1992. The main purpose of the ICCPR is to protect human rights, as it protects civil, political,
economic, social and cultural rights. The ICCPR addresses the right to life and that nobody should be
deprived of that right. However, the current gun violence in the United States is taking away the right
to life.
The body who interpreters the ICCPR is the Human Rights Committee, this is laid

Bronfenbrenner s Ecological Model
Implication Bronfenbrenner s (1979) ecological model provides the sense that VT exists in very
complex and complicated worlds. Based on previous conceptualization and ecological analysis, it is
clear that the factors for VT are interconnected and mutually affect the individual and the

the implication will be discussed within the framework of ecological system theory. El Ghoroury et al.

How Foreign Realtors Are Different
2. How Foreign Realtors Are Different
The first thing to realize is that realtors in various countries differ a lot in the ways they work and
charge commission on sale; real estate sellers have to know about their own country s realtors and the
countries they target for bringing the foreign buyers from over there as well. Even the words realtor or
real estate agent may mean not the same thing in different countries in terms of the duties and
responsibilities of such real estate professionals. By the way, throughout this e book we will use these
words interchangeably although it may be not really correct in some jurisdictions. As a realtor you

Also the difference between the work that seller s and buyer s realtors perform should be always taken
into consideration. If you hire a local realtor to sell your property commission based, or you are this
seller s realtor yourself, then the realtor s duty will be to market, advertise and promote the property
for sale at the own realtor s expense most of the time (hoping for a sizable commission at closing). It
is a different picture with a foreign realtor. Usually as a private seller you offer foreign realtors to find
a buyer for your property for sale and promise to pay a commission on sale, or as a local realtor for the
property you offer the foreign realtors a commission split on sale if they refer a foreign buyer to you.
Obviously, the foreign realtor will usually act as a buyer s

Speciation in the Butterfly Essay
Recent studies into the genome of the various Heliconius butterflies, has shown a clear indication of
the process of speciation. Speciation is usually thought of as a long term process, just like the process
of evolution. Very few changes to the genome are needed to create the possibility of a new species
evolving even if the original species is still in contact and reproducing. Once the changes to the
genome have begun, the evolutionary divergence is a rapid process that results in a new genetically
isolated species. Speciation is the divergence of a population into different species. There are two
forms of speciation; allopatric, where physical or environmental factors can cause a population to
form a new species, or sympatric, where a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Researchers have analyzed the genome of two subspecies of the Heliconius butterfly having only
recently diverged into subspecies in order to locate the genetic differences that are the critical points
for speciation. These two subspecies are still able to interbreed and are located in the similar
ecological habitats; therefore these butterflies will be able to experience a small amount of genetic
exchange. This ability of regular exchange causes the unimportant variants in the process of speciation
to become silent the researchers found that this allowed them to locate the main genetic areas that
natural selection has influenced. In the research they determined that the two Heliconius butterfly
species genome had only 12 differing regions and the rest of the genome was nearly identical. Of the
12 differences eight of these they found to code for the wing color patterning, a key trait as it affects
mating and avoiding predators in their perspective environments, the other four were still yet
undetermined. In a second test they compared the two previous genomes to a third Heliconius species.
The third species was farther removed on the evolutionary time scale but was still closely related to
the previous groups. The comparison showed the genomes to have hundreds of differences; they
concluded that once the initial genetic changes

The Fight Between Grendel And Beowulf
Beowulf and Grendel The particular scene I wish to cover would have to be the fight between Grendel
and Beowulf, the defeat of Grendel. In Beowulf, during the Fight with Grendel, Grendel is coming
once more to feast upon the men of the grounds of Hrothar. Though unbeknownst to him, it is a trap,
and Beowulf is lying in wait to defeat the beast. The fight is well detailed, and Beowulf wins and takes
Grendel s arm as a trophy, having got it by ripping it off with his bare hands. As it is stated here, Yet
he bought his freedom At a high price, for he left his hand and arm and shoulder to show he had been

the book Grendel I feel. The way he spoke to Grendel, basically torturing him as he was gripping his
arm so hard to the point the bones broke and it was ripped off. He laughed at Grendle, commanding
him to sing and mocking him, He smashes me against it, breaks open my forehead. Hard, yes!
Observe the hardness, write it down in careful runes. Now sing of walls! Sing! (Gardner p. 171). This
is one of the things Grendel says as he s killing him, and it portrays him as very brutal and harsh in my
eyes. Another was how Grendel acted himself, externally and internally. While yes he was still a beast
who wished to sustain his bloodlust, he wasn t just a mindless, evil creature. He had feelings, and he
was scared at any time he felt he was dying or was in danger. These I feel are the main differences

While Hemingway s short story A Clean, Well Lighted Place is usually interpreted as an intensely
poetic description of despair, it can with equal validity be seen instead as mankind s never ending
yearning to find spiritual peace. Hemingway s short story displayed this emotional journey in many
different ways. First, the title itself is a symbol for man s desire to find a state of tranquillity, safety,
and comfort. Hemingway also showed this in the story s setting, which was used as a symbol for a
sense of order, for it was late, the cafe was empty, and the men there were at ease. Finally, Hemingway
showed this desire in the contrasting actions between the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here he was showing that in one s lowest level of despair, man s one and only desire is to find a safe
haven, and to acquire a sense of security.
Finding a sense of security and meaning to life was very important to Hemingway who was known to
feel that the individual quest for meaningful values was a universal one, probably because Hemingway
himself struggled to find the true meaning of his life, or the true sense of his purpose.
The despair that Hemingway himself felt is best shown in A Clean, Well Lighted Place when the older
waiter was intertwined in a conversation with himself. He said that: It was all a nothing and a man was
nothing too. It was only that and light was all it needed and a certain cleanness and order. Some lived
in it and never felt it but he knew it was nada y pues nada y nada y pues nada (383).
Nothing and then nothing. When one is in a state of despair, the only thing that one is looking for is a
way out of one s situation, or a road that will lead to a peaceful end to one s feelings of hopelessness.
Hemingway, however, presented a remarkable example of man s search for an end to his state of
hopelessness. When one waiter commented on the deaf man s attempt at taking his own life, he said
Last week he tried to commit suicide. The other waiter replied Why? Then he said, He was in despair
(379). This summed up man s desire, at his lowest level of depression, to find peace,

The Between Groups Design And The Cross Sectional Design...
Summary Hypothesis If a person participates in many daily activities, exercises early daily scheduling,
has consistently scheduled social rhythms, and partakes in activities with active social engagement,
then the person will self report that he or she is a good sleeper. Methods In the study, the between
groups design and the cross sectional design were used for research. There were 243 participants
between the ages of 18 and 39, and the majority were females and Caucasians. The average age was
about 21 years old. The measurements used were the Social Rhythm Metric, the Pittsburgh Sleep
Quality Index, and the Beck Depression Inventory, Second Edition. The PSQI was used to measure
perceived sleep quality within the past month. Once the Sleep Quality Index was obtained, the
participants were categorized as good sleepers (5) based on scale ranging from 0 to 19. The SRM was
used to assess social rhythms. The overall activities performed by a test subject, the number of
activities performed involving social interaction, and the number of activities involving minimum to
no social interaction were analyzed. The SRM also tracked the regularity of activities, so a hit meant
an activity was performed within 45 minutes of the habitual time. The BDI II was used to calculate
participants levels of depression. Participants would be trained to use the SRM, then they would be
given 14 days of SRMs. The diary was to be returned after the 15th day. Thus, 2 weeks of monitoring

National Collegiate Athletic Association ( Ncaa ) Division...
National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I sports, specifically football and men s
basketball, have become a a grand spectacle in American culture today. The rights to broadcasting the
playoff schedule for these two major sports brings in nearly a billion dollars worth of revenue for the
organization each year. The time has come for student athletes to no longer be seen as amateurs.
College athletes are the number one reason the NCAA is able to generate such a great amount of
revenue; they dedicate countless hours of every day to their craft, miss large chunks of classes, and
deserve to receive just compensation for their tremendous efforts. NCAA men s football and
basketball are treated, marketed, and played like professional level sports; therefor, the athletes
deserve just compensation for their efforts. The NCAA is a billion dollar corporation that is allowed to
rake in its profit off the backs of unpaid college athletes. According to freelance journalist, and Robin
Goldstein Award for Outstanding Regional Reporting, Reed Karaim, ...broadcasters pay the top
college football conferences more than $200 million each annually, with each team in some
conferences receiving $20 million or more (Karaim). Because the college athletes at these schools are
refused to be seen as anything but amateurs by the NCAA, the money gained from in game revenues
never sees its way into the player s hands. Rather, these Division I programs spend this money paying

Cbs At Walmart
Selling CFLs at Wal Mart Executive Summary: Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) were introduced in
1980 with the purpose of saving energy. They initially were very expensive and consumers were
aware of many flaws that made them hesitant to purchase the bulbs and bring them into their homes.
The positive effects of switching from alternative bulbs to CFLs were overshadowed by media
attention highlighting the issues that remained unresolved. Wal Mart pushed promotional programs in
2007 that were very successful. They introduced a private label at a lower price, offered online
ordering, posititioned the products well, installed interactive displays and engaged with new partners
to promote energy efficiency. In 2009 the CFLs were redesigned and ... Show more content on

Analysis: CFL lightbulbs entered the market at an expensive price, yet the consumers continued to
purchase them. Knowing the bulbs paid for themselves, the tradeoff was worth it. They used 75% less
electricity than incandescent bulbs, lasted 10 times longer and emitted 450 pounds fewer greenhouse
gasses. In previous years consumers relied on incandescent lights that were reliable and much less
expensive than CFLs. CFLs were backed by utility companies that also wanted the product to be a
success, which was obvious through their coupons, trade ins and price promotions. Aside from the
many benefits CFLs offered to consumers, market research showed there were misconceptions that
caused hesitancy in consumer adoption. The original product had problems such as light flickering and
buzzing, needed continual usage to result in energy savings, could not be used with a dimmer, and
recycling the bulbs was not convenient as special measures were needed to dispose of the bulb. By
2009, manufactures had redesigned the bulbs and made significant changes to address the concerns of
customers. Disposal was made easier as mercury levels reduced, the lights could be dimmed, more
sizes and colors were available. The price of the bulb decreased from $25 each to around $3 each.
Eventually CFL s became more popular with consumers and household penetration grew to around
50%. Though household penetration was high, only 26% of households accounted for 76% of all CFL

Mud Blindness
Method
Participants
We recruited 18 undergraduate students from a California State University using general class
announcements and one campus posting. Participants were offered academic credit or extra credit for
participating. There were 3 men and 15 women with ages that ranged from 20 27, (M = 22.89, SD =
1.84).
Materials
We used the mud splash paradigm to examine change blindness. Each trial consisted of two Microsoft
PowerPoint images. The first image was of a natural scene and almost identical to the second image,
but a small object was removed from the central area of the scene in the changed image. Additionally
the changed image was nmasked with several high contrast mud splash s, similar to previous research
studies that have used the mud splash paradigm (O Regan et al., 1999), and covered 10%, 20%,, or
40% of the scene. Using Microsoft PowerPoint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may have yielded better results, but only when combined with the audio shadowing task. These
results indicated a floor effect because of the insensitive levels of mud splash and the interaction only
at the 40% mud splash level. Future research using this design should include sensitive levels with the
minimum level of mud splash distraction to 40% and increase the range of conditions (Rensink et al.,
1997). The results were similar on a multi modal study where participants completed a verbal
counting task at the same time as a visual search task. Only when the task became cognitively
demanding a significant difference was observed, (Most, 2005). The perception of change in a scene
requires a person to have attended to relevant stimuli and encoded the information into working
memory. Moreover visual change detection occurs when a person has given attention to something.
Yet change blindness occurs because attention had failed to encode the necessary information for
change detection to occur (Rensink, et al.,

Changing Role Of Women During World War II
Changing Role of Women in World War II
When Britain declared war against Germany in 1939, the Australian Prime Minister, Robert Menzies,
proclaimed that Australia was also at war. The declaration of war saw Australians respond to another
world conflict. On this occasion, Australia itself would be under the threat of attack. World War II
would not only require young men to travel overseas and fight but it also significantly impacted the
lives of Australian women. The contribution Australian women made towards the war effort and their
roles on the Homefront and overseas was a vital part of Australian History. Australian women had a
range of duties and responsibilities they were encouraged to perform. Since most men had to go
overseas to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, through this experience, women bought long term changes and they had the chance to
experience independence which allowed them to discover life long skills. This was one of their many
achievements which eventually changed the modern society. As seen in Appendix 1, the AWLA
received the newly created Civilian Service Medal 1939 1945 due to their support of the war effort.
This undoubtedly indicates that these women were the start of an alteration in Australia for the long
term, due to their struggle and achievement.
Women in World War II started replacing men in traditional roles, which proved to society that women
were capable of work reserved for men. Due to labour shortages and the need for men to fight
overseas, the government was forced to allow women to take a more active role. Women had a broad
range of duties and responsibilities, most women were trained in many of the home front tasks,
subsequently, that more service men could be freed to join the overseas forces, this created new
employment opportunities for women (Carrodus et al, 2012, p. 113). Tens of thousands of women
joined the Women s Air Force, Naval and Army Services during World War II. (Big Black Dog
Communications Pty Ltd, et al, 2009). As seen Appendix 2, women in the services were significant as
they were beginning to perform all types of work, from intelligence officers to drivers, typists and
cooks, to wireless telegraphists and aircraft ground staff. To go from being dependent on

Deception And Deception In Much Ado About Nothing By...
In Shakespearean drama, a common motif is that of deception and disguise. There are two types of
deception: those that are benign and those that are pernicious. Benign trickery is a less serious form of
trickery. On the other hand, pernicious trickery is more serious and has lasting implications as a result.
In the play Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, deception features prominently.
Examples of deception in the play include Benedick and Beatrice being tricked into believing they
love one another, everyone being tricked into believing Hero was dead, and Claudio and Don Pedro
being tricked into believing Hero was unfaithful to him, and they contribute to the development of the
play s important themes by highlighting Shakespeare s ideas and opinions that are expressed in the
play. Two important themes in this particular play are that not all trickery is evil and status in a society
is important, which are both highlighted through deception in this play. Shakespeare uses several
examples of deception in the play to develop the play s important themes. First of all, one example of
deception in the play is when Benedick is tricked into believing Beatrice loves him and Beatrice is
tricked into believing Benedick loves her. Claudio, Leonato, and the Prince have a conversation and
Hero and Margaret have another conversation in such manners that Benedick and Beatrice can
overhear them purposefully. In the conversation between Claudio, Leonato, and the Prince, Leonato

The Future of Genetic Enhancement Essay
Genetic enhancement appears to be inevitable since technology is making a rapid turn towards genetic
enhancement. Because of this fact, concerns over how beneficial or harmful genetic enhancement
would be in the future have arisen. We, as a society, need to analyze both sides and decide for
ourselves whether we should support the progression of genetic enhancement or do everything in our
power to stall or halt it.
Genetic enhancement refers to the use of genetic engineering to modify a person s nonpathological
human traits. This concept is aimed at improving the quality of life of humans. Baylis and Robert
suggest that, using genetic enhancement, a person could make a physical alternation like increasing
muscle mass or slowing down the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Benefits from genetic enhancements are widespread. These benefits are evident in physical,
intellectual, psychological, and even moral enhancements. One of these benefits is undesired inherited
conditions which can be eliminated through genetic enhancement. Some parents believe they should
have the choice of preventing inherited diseases from being passed on from one generation to the next.
Most of these parents also want to make informed reproductive choices without outside pressures
(Iredale, Longley, Thomas, Shaw, 2006). With this physical enhancement, parents could get rid of all
the traits they are concerned about and end up with healthy, disease free children. Baylis and Robert
suggest that a physical enhancement that could be considered beneficial is reducing sleep dependence
(2004). A procrastinating undergraduate student who needs to study for a final or write a term paper
could use this enhancement for their own benefit. Military personnel could have the opportunity to
conduct more missions and with better precision if they are not sleep deprived. Surgeons would be
able to perform surgeries more frequently and with greater accuracy. As a society, reducing sleep
dependence would push us toward accomplishing more and greater objectives that otherwise would be
impossible because of the amount of time we spend sleeping. Baylis and Robert also argue that
psychological and moral enhancements could be beneficial to our society. With genetic

Title
War, according to the Oxford Dictionary, is A state of armed conflict between different nations or
states or different groups within a nation or state (citation). War truly does bring out the worst of in the
people involved, because in war the objective is to kill or capture enough of the opposing sides
soldiers to show that your side is superior. Both sides will take any measures necessary to win, a few
examples of this being Mustard gas, Ricin, Agent Orange, and Sarin . When guns and other weapons
will not cut it, that s when in the mind of the governments that chemical warfare became necessary .
Since these four chemicals and many more have been used throughout history, the Chemical Warfare
Convention banned all forms of chemical weapons, due to the lasting effects of the chemicals on both
nations and individuals of those nations. The way the CWC defines a chemical weapon is a toxic
chemical or its precursor that can cause death, injury, temporary incapacitation or sensory irritation
through its chemical action.
A Chemical Weapon according to Joe Carter of Erlc.com , is a toxic chemical contained in a delivery
system, such as a bomb or a shell . The first chemical weapon ever used was Chlorine. This toxic gas
was first used at the Second Battle of Ypres on April 22, 1915. Toxic gases were looked down upon
and considered inhumane before World War one. Soon after the toxic chlorine was used for the first
time in 1915, the Germans

Examples Of Rememory In Beloved
In the novel, Beloved, Toni Morrison masterfully creates a series of events that mirrors the human
condition of remembering, allowing the reader to experience firsthand, the pain and suffering of ex,
African American slaves in a most profoundly realistic way. Morrison enables the protagonist, Sethe,
with non linear accounts of rememory throughout the story so that she may unearth her past truths,
ones in which she had so desperately tried to bury. It is through these vivid accounts of rememory that
Sethe can be allowed to see herself in different perspectives, recollecting herself and realizing her
individuality. In this, Morrison paves a path for Sethe s enlightenment, the retelling of her past, as she
must realize her own humanity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Morrison even inserts the idea of rememory in the house which Sethe and Denver reside, house 124 .
The house number is such a small detail but hold such strong significance within the work, indicating
the first, second, and fourth child of Sether as they were the only surving children of Sethe s filicide.
The number three is missing, as the third child did not survive, the absence of the number is but
another haunting reminder of the child s absence, displaying the fragmentation of Sethe s family and
representing something important but not spoken. Much like the memories of the characters, the
things that are unspoken often resonate the loudest. Morrison structures the novel through various
perspective(s), as rememory begins to appear to each character as a most overwhelming and formless
sense of haunting and it is only after they come together that a collective story can form for the reader.

Effects Of Alcohol On Women s Drinking
Alcohol is very popular amongst all ages of women whether they drink before or after 21 years old or.
Women are seen as vulnerable and weak, which is a typical stereotype society defines. A reason why
women may drink is indefinite. There is not an exact reason why women drink, but there are many
reasons why may one drink. Reasons may consist of positivity and/ or negativity for alcohol; however,
there are many negative effects on women. Women drink in order to have fun and get loose, or if they
are stressed and feel overwhelmed. Consumption of alcohol is every day, but people may not know
what it is composed of. There are ingredients that people do not realize that would be in an alcoholic
beverage. It is important for women to know what they are putting into their bodies. As women drink
more, the more likely women are known to have a disorder. Eating disorders can play a big factor in
drinking. Many people do not realize how alcohol is broken down, however, according to Kolander,
alcohol takes place through the stomach, where about 20 percent is absorbed directly into the
bloodstream, and from the small intestine where 80 percent is absorbed and moves into the
bloodstream and to all parts of the body (p. 322). There are many types of alcohol; the three additional

Shrek s Impact On Society And Symbolic Interactionism
As Shrek was judged, we are as humans judged today. This is true for anything we do. Whether
politics, television, or social media, it still defines how society and the individual will behave. See
through everything society does, no matter the period of time, social interaction was navigated
through words, and symbols. Which over time developed an emotional meaning, which are projected
thru action or behaviour today. According to Dictionary.com, the definition of Symbolic
Interactionism is a theory that human interaction and communication is facilitated by words, gestures,
and other symbols that have acquired conventionalized meanings , with this definition one can assume
that the interactionist perspective is based around communication that is made easier, by things like
words, gestures and symbols, so that they can gain the artistic meaning that will eventually make an
effect ( symbolic interactionism ). Those who study the interactionist perspective often take every day
social conversation and they use that to explain society, instead of taking the grand scheme of
everything in its entirety and using that to explain a large societal area in its entirety. In the movie
Shrek, the symbolism of each interaction has a deeper meaning somewhere down the road. For
instance, Shrek losing his swamp leads to him going to Lord Farquaad. This in turn meeting Donkey
and other fairy tale creatures, and then going to save Fiona. This adventure, down the road of course,
leads to him getting a wife and friends.
When Shrek first meet the fairy tale creatures, he was about to start his quest to talk to the great lord
Farquaad. The fairy tale creatures, who were all imprisoned and banished to Shrek s swamp by lord
Farquaad from his kingdom, all came to Shrek s swamp. This led to many friendships being formed,
intricate and even direct relationships were formed. The fairy tale creatures who came to Shrek s
swamp in the first place were ginger bread man named Gingy, the big bad wolf , named Wolfie,
Pinocchio, 3 blind mice and 3 little pigs. While Shrek, Gingy and Pinocchio are closer in relationship
with a more intricate relationship, the rest of the gang mentioned were not that close to Shrek. The
symbols behinds all their

  • 5. Resting Membrane Potential Of Orconectes Lab Report This experiment seeks to analyze how the resting membrane potential of Orconectes rusticus muscle cells changes in response to increasing [K+]o solution concentrations. By recording the intracellular voltage of the DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle cells at six concentrations of [K+]o solution, we determined whether the observed resting membrane potentials (Vrest) were significantly different from the predicted Nernst equilibrium potential values. We hypothesized that the Vrest of the crayfish muscles at each concentration would not significantly differ from the Nernst potential, which solely considers the permeability of potassium ions to the cell membrane. However, our findings suggested differently, and results indicated that the Nernst equation did not accurately predict the obtained values of the resting membrane potential. The differences in muscle cell Vrest reveal instead that the membrane is differentially permeable to other ions. I. Introduction: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both electrical and chemical forces combine to determine the resting membrane potential of the cell. Although the resting membrane potential of most cells is normally negative, the selective permeability of the membrane allows certain ions in and out, causing the neuronal membrane voltage to become depolarized (more positive), or hyperpolarized (more negative). Key ions involved in muscle membrane potential are sodium, potassium, and chloride, which move via passive or active diffusion through ion channels and transporter pumps (Baierlein et al. 2011). The Nernst equation predicts the membrane voltage based on the assumption that the membrane is only permeable to one type of ion. In this investigation, we are seeking to understand the basis for how different ions interact to produce the membrane potential of DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle ... As various constituents in the extract will show maximum absorbance at different wavelengths; the optimisation of the UV wavelength for detection of analytes is rerquired such that be able to detect maximum number of well resolved peaks. Diode array is an ultraviolet detection technique where an array of diodes is used to monitor the full UV range simultaneously. Therefore, it provides a UV spectrum at any time point during the analysis. Looking at the 3D PDA; the detector takes a range of wavelengths from 190nm to 800nm which is indicated on Y axis; while the time taken for the analytes to pass through the column is indicated on the X axis; on the opposite, Z axis is the intensities readings (figure 13). The truth is that war, no matter how awful we can imagine it, is always exponentially worse. In Timothy Findley s The Wars, Robert Ross, the protagonist, faces a situation that he finds difficult to come to terms with, and when faced with a similar situation later on in the novel, he must take drastic measures to reconcile the uncertainties of the past situation. Following his rape, he starts to do what he feels is right, and in one case, goes directly against direct orders to stand for what he believes in, as well as to reconcile everything he s been through as a soldier; the violence, the pain, and everything that has emotionally and physically scarred him. Once Robert is back in the battle, there is another, worse attack on the Canadian lines by the Germans. They are being rained on by shells, and Robert fears for the lives of the horses in a nearby barn that is being hit by the shelling, and which Robert fears will collapse at any moment. Over the course of the war, Robert has grown more and more attached to horses, and it s in his benevolent nature to care for other animals. When Robert tells Captain Leather that he will go back to the barn to save the horses, Leather refuses, saying that it is not necessary. Robert, thinking back to the last time he wanted to go against Captain Leather s orders, and what arose when he didn t, realizes that he must go against his orders and free the horses. As Robert is running back to the barn to free the horses, Leather screams at him to stop what he is doing and to follow his orders, but Robert is determined. When Leather pulls his gun on Robert, Robert stops to shoot him, killing Leather. Dante s Hell had nine levels or circles of sins. The nine circles were categorized from the least worst sin (circle one) to the very worst sin (circle nine). Each level of sin had it s own punishments. The punishments in Inferno match their sins according to the type and level of rottenness. Each punishment fit the crime. Good examples of fitting punishments are shown in the first, second, and third circles of Hell. The first circle of Hell is named Limbo. As a symbol of a winter wonderland, the holidays, individuality, and beauty, snowflakes elicit feelings of warmth and happiness from within one s soul. However, the usage of this word has deviated from its usual meaning of a winter phenomenon, and has maneuvered its way into derogatory social and political slang throughout history. It has been used as a means to call out those that have disputed the Peculiar Institution, a way to dehumanize African Americans, and now, a generalization of a hypersensitive Millennial generation. Through this essay, the history of the term s slang use will be described as well as its development into the jargon that it is today. Since the election of Trump as the 45th president of the United States, there has been a huge divide among Republicans and Democrats across America leading to back and forth bantering about their political views. In a time of such political tension the term snowflake was revived as a jab towards their opponents. In February, the hashtag #HowToSpotASnowflake was trending on Twitter, fueling comments such as, #HowToSpotASnowflake They show up to march in a protest but when interviewed, they don t know what they re protesting (Pignataro par. 4). Another target of the slander are Millennials, as they are constantly berated with the term by members of the older generation such as Claire Fox and Marc Thiessen for being egocentric, having an inaccurate portrayal of the first amendment, and being unable to accept opinions that contradict theirs. Nonetheless, this label isn t meant to characterize a specific age, race, or political group, but it can be applied to anyone. A possible candidate for the perfect snowflake is President Donald Trump. Prior to serving as the 45th President of the United States, Trump gained notoriety as a billionaire real estate mogul and a television personality from starring in the Apprentice and spinoff, the Celebrity Apprentice. Walt Disney was one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time, a man who took a dream and pursued it, making a worldwide famous company, Walt Disney World. This paper will look at the history, financial situations, and marketing strategy of Walt Disney World. As Walt would say, Sit back and enjoy! In the early 1960s, Walt Disney wanted to give the residents of Eastern United States the opportunity to enjoy the entertainment that was being offered at his California s Disneyland theme park. Walt and his team the WED Enterprises settled on picking Florida as the new parks location. Florida offered weather that was similar year round, and was already the number one location for tourism. The announcement of the idea was delivered on November 16, 1965 at an Orlando press conference. Sadly, Walt Disney passed in December of 1967, leaving behind his dream for the park. However, President Roy O. Disney, Donn B. Tatum, and E. Cardon Walker, the top three executives for the company carried on the plans to open the new park. After many months of construction and planning, the park held its grand opening October 1, 1971. Since then there have been many additions and openings in the park, new traditions made, parades, and special guests attending. • 11. Analysis Of The Short Stories Lady With A Pet Dog Hope Crenshaw Dr. Schott English 102 September 13,2015 Lady with the Pet Dog The short stories Lady with the Pet Dog written by Chekov and Lady with a Pet Dog written by Oates demonstrate the relationship between a young woman, Anna , and her lover. The authors use two different points of view as well as Anna s behaviors, motives and feelings in an attempt to convey a sense of understanding. Neither Chekove nor Oates evoke a sense of sympathy towards Anna as she struggles to justify her actions. Firstly, Anna uses her unsatisfactory marriage to justify her affair. In Chekhov uses my husband may be a good, honest man, but he is a flunkey! (Chekov 227) to indicate that Anna has an estranged marriage. Although Anna has not obtained an ideal marriage, she shows that she does indeed care about her husband ... and begging his wife to return home as soon as possible. Anna Sergeyevna made haste to go (Chekov 228). Chekov uses the fact that Anna rushes home in order to show that she still loves her husband. After all, if she did not, she would not have rushed home. Although Oates writes from Anna s point of view, the author still shows similarities with Chekhov s version. I love you, her husband said fiercely, angrily. The Cultural Icon Of The 20th Century Essay Amber Gentile 12 December 2016 Period 2 Albert Einstein The Cultural Icon from the 20th Century Albert Einstein once said I want to know God s thoughts, the rest are details . Einstein wanted an equation that would encapsulate all physical laws. To put the beauty and the power of the universe into a single equation was his life s goal. Although Einstein s name is now synonymous with genius, his professors would have never predicted him to be this successful as he would always cut class, and he could not get a single job after graduating. Einstein thought he was such loser that he wrote a letter to his family saying perhaps it would be better if he was never born. His father had to apply on behalf of Einstein for academic positions, but they all said there were no positions available. His father passed away thinking that Einstein was a total disgrace to the family. In 1902 Einstein moved to Switzerland, and began a career far from science. One of his friends got him a job to be a patent clerk in the Swiss patent office. He spent six days a week reviewing applications submitted by inventors to the Swiss government. He had to analyze the patents and strip them to their essence, which honed his skills as a physicist. Since it was not intellectually demanding it would give him ample time to contemplate the universe. Einstein s daydreams would change the way the universe was understood. Gun Violence In America Gun Violence in the United States of America Every day there is another story in the news about excessive gun violence, accidents with guns involving children who found loaded guns in the house or unnecessary gun violence by police forces. Due to the US allowing and making it so easy for citizens to have guns and for their security forces to shoot without strict rules or consequences, lots of innocent people are killed without having any way to defend themselves. ICCPR US is in violation of their human rights obligations under article 6 of the ICCPR right to life because it s not protecting the lives of its citizens, it is allowing excessive gun violence (by police forces) and it has insufficient violations of guns by people who are not even supposed to possess guns. The US is especially in violation because it fails to control its police department on the use of gun violence. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) is an international treaty, which entered into force 23 March 1976. The United States of America signed the treaty in 1977 and ratified it in 1992. The main purpose of the ICCPR is to protect human rights, as it protects civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. Speciation is usually thought of as a long term process, just like the process of evolution. Very few changes to the genome are needed to create the possibility of a new species evolving even if the original species is still in contact and reproducing. Once the changes to the genome have begun, the evolutionary divergence is a rapid process that results in a new genetically isolated species. Speciation is the divergence of a population into different species. Researchers have analyzed the genome of two subspecies of the Heliconius butterfly having only recently diverged into subspecies in order to locate the genetic differences that are the critical points for speciation. These two subspecies are still able to interbreed and are located in the similar ecological habitats; therefore these butterflies will be able to experience a small amount of genetic exchange. This ability of regular exchange causes the unimportant variants in the process of speciation to become silent the researchers found that this allowed them to locate the main genetic areas that natural selection has influenced. In the research they determined that the two Heliconius butterfly species genome had only 12 differing regions and the rest of the genome was nearly identical. Of the 12 differences eight of these they found to code for the wing color patterning, a key trait as it affects mating and avoiding predators in their perspective environments, the other four were still yet undetermined. In a second test they compared the two previous genomes to a third Heliconius species. The third species was farther removed on the evolutionary time scale but was still closely related to the previous groups. Yearning for Peace in Hemingway s A Clean, Well Lighted Place While Hemingway s short story A Clean, Well Lighted Place is usually interpreted as an intensely poetic description of despair, it can with equal validity be seen instead as mankind s never ending yearning to find spiritual peace. Hemingway s short story displayed this emotional journey in many different ways. First, the title itself is a symbol for man s desire to find a state of tranquillity, safety, and comfort. Here he was showing that in one s lowest level of despair, man s one and only desire is to find a safe haven, and to acquire a sense of security. Finding a sense of security and meaning to life was very important to Hemingway who was known to feel that the individual quest for meaningful values was a universal one, probably because Hemingway himself struggled to find the true meaning of his life, or the true sense of his purpose. The despair that Hemingway himself felt is best shown in A Clean, Well Lighted Place when the older waiter was intertwined in a conversation with himself. He said that: It was all a nothing and a man was nothing too. It was only that and light was all it needed and a certain cleanness and order. Some lived in it and never felt it but he knew it was nada y pues nada y nada y pues nada (383). Nothing and then nothing.
