How Does David Change In Montana 1948

September 7, 2017
Changes During the Summer of 1948 Everyone changes at one point of their life, whether it happens
dramatically or throughout many years. Throughout Montana 1948 David and his family go through
traumatizing events that change David as a person. Montana 1948 by Larry Watson is a book that
takes place in Montana during the summer of 1948. The narrator, David, is narrating the story from
when he was 12 as a 52 year old man. For David, the summer of 1948 was when he changes the most
as a person. He tells the story of his summer from 1948 when everything changed for him. David
changed in many ways throughout the story. David sees the law differently, he realizes things about
his father and uncle, and he matures greatly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
David s father, the sheriff, doesn t treat his brothers case as he regularly would because Frank is his
family. Frank is guilty of multiple cases and should be arrested for his crimes. Wesley doesn t want to
lock Frank up in jail because it feels wrong since Frank is his brother. Wesley decides to lock Frank up
in his basement for the time being because he is disordered about the situation. Everybody is aware
that it isn t right or smart for Wesley to lock Frank up in the basement. Len even says, Some sharp
lawyers going to raise hell about you keeping Frank locked up like this (Watson 134). Len is right
because it is very wrong and foolish of Wesley to do that and he should have taken Frank to jail.
Wesley later does realize what he is doing is wrong and says, this isn t about my family, this is a legal
matter (108), and decides to take Frank to jail first thing the next morning. David comes to realize by
the end of the book that people can bend the rules of the law when it comes to family or people that
they love and he will never trust the law as much as he used

Informative Speech About Uganda
Uganda
Hello fellow United Nations members, it is an honour to be here. While the MDG s can be considered
a global success as they have enhanced the lives of many people within developing nations, it is still
important to note that there are still glaring factors in developing countries that are holding them back.
Therefore, it is important that we take note of these factors and try to work on them in order to
improve the lives of everyone within these countries. A country that I strongly believe needs to be
focused on is Uganda. Hence, in this speech, I will analyse the characteristics that have inhibited
development in line with the United Nations MDG s and address the progress of Uganda. By the end
of the speech, the recommended appropriate strategies to achieve the goals/improve on them will be
provided. It is hypothesised that although corruption and Civil War have held Uganda back, social
influences along with poverty has stopped Uganda from reaching all their goals.
Uganda faces many problems that inhibit their development such as Civil War. As stated by Global
Security conflict and violence have plagued much of Uganda since independence (Global Security,
N.D). This is largely due to the Civil War and corruption the country faces daily. Civil War has played
a long part in Uganda s history dating back to 1962 with 14 insurgencies occurring within the country
since 1971. The Civil War dramatically worsened when Joseph Kony, leader of the Lord s resistance
army (LRA)

Cadbury Worldwide Case Study
It is interesting to read the article about Cadbury Worldwide. From perspectives of 3 three different
cultures. While it might be lucrative to start providing your services, or selling products across your
borders, an option should be thought of as real journey of discovering new cultures and customs of
different groups of people. It will be useful to understand them and how to do business in their
countries. Be aware of the regulation and standards are important. There are two examples of the
purchasing Cadbury UK by the American food gain Kraft and how the two work cultures of the
American and the British are different.
Cadbury is a leader in the UK confectionery market. the interaction between American managers and
British managers and workers after purchasing Cadbury by the American owned Kraft is an example
how two different cultures may clash with each other. As highlighted by Tarique, Briscoe, and Schuler
(2016) that one of the biggest mistakes the HR management of MNE s fall in is navigating through the
myriad of local laws and regulations with assumptions that worked in their homeland will work
somewhere else. The MNE s should choose the right approaches to deal with employment relations to
ensure that will have a healthy work environment and get the desired results. and productivity level.
There are seven approaches suggested. I think in the case of Cadbury UK, it will be beneficial to use
the guide and advice approach through which the parent company may provide

Reaction Paper About Imelda Marcos
It is without a doubt that she is beautiful. Despite our ability to perceive beauty as something beyond
one s exterior, Imelda Marcos charmed her audiences with her porcelain and flawless skin, her distinct
up do, her demeanor, and her numerous shoes. People still clamor for her and some still worship the
ground she walks on. As an influential woman, she aimed to inspire others to live by God, love and
beauty as she had, albeit the methods. Little does she recognize, however, that despite her seemingly
heroic attempts to reclaim Filipino identity, she illustrated how beguiled men and women to believe
her and her husband as agents of change for several years before they finally rid themselves of the
smoke and mirrors.
The focus of the documentary was Imelda Romualdez Marcos who lived inside her personal bubble
while living inside a plush home with large ceilings and walls covered in Italian leather and
embroidery. Coming from a powerful and affluent family, Imelda Marcos has been both secluded and
exposed for most of her younger years. She was considered in seclusion because she did not know the
pains the underprivileged underwent to survive daily. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

made her continuously believe in the power of appearance than what was actual or what was real.
There is dissociation, as abovementioned, between the current conditions of the Filipinos during
Marcos rule full of fear and discontent, and the world of glamorous, beautiful, extravagant life full of
parties and hand embroidered dresses that Imelda lived

Are Animal Experiments For Cosmetic Research Necessary And...
Are animal experiments for cosmetic research necessary and can they be justified?
Abstract:
This report investigates animal is cosmetic testing. The introduction outlines the focus of this report,
the history of animal testing and presenting relevant case studies to illustrate the issue. The discussion
provides in depth information about animal testing by presenting two sides of the story. The
conclusion will highlight the main points learned to help decide if animal experiments are, indeed,
necessary.
Methodology:
Searching online became useful for secondary sources. Websites such as BUAV (British Union for the
Abolition of Vivisection), which offered a useful timeline, like the Cruelty Free International
campaign and how these actions contributed to stopping animal testing in the EU. Cruelty Free
International is supported by a number of celebrities including Ricky Gervais and Sir Paul McCartney.
PeTA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) provided information about the types and
alternatives of testing. The website also listed alternatives to animal testing, such as the Human skin
models, which are considered in this report.
News articles by the BBC were very helpful when considering the pros and cons of animal testing. A
blog by The Beauty Brains provided a scientist s opinion. Social networks e.g. Facebook and YouTube
offered access to video campaigns and the public s opinions.
Primary sources were used to experience face to face research, asking

SIDS Essay
Educating Parents and Caregivers on the Prevention of SIDS
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the unexplained death of an infant less than one year of age
after having done a complete postmortem examination and investigation of the scene of death. There
are no causes that have been found that make it clear as to why SIDS is so common. The rate of SIDS
decreased dramatically when the Back to Sleep campaign was started to encourage parents and
caregivers that infants were placed on their back while sleeping (Hockenberry Wilson, 2015, p. 473).
The most common ways that these deaths have occurred are the infant s sleeping environments and
their positioning. Research shows that infants that sleep in the prone position are most at risk ... Show

42). The cause of SIDS is still unknown but autopsies have been reliable in showing consistent
findings pathologically that reveal whether a child has pulmonary edema or intrathoracic hemorrhages
that could possibly confirm a diagnosis. Autopsies should be done in every infant and the results
should be shared with the parents as soon as they are completed (Hockenberry Wilson, 2016, p. 476).
Important critical assessments to make regarding SIDS is identifying risk factors that could potentially
lead to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and ensuring to educate the caregivers on techniques to
prevent these deaths. Some complications that may arise with SIDS could be a sense of hopelessness
for the family of the infant. The parents may feel guilty and blame themselves for the death of their
child. To appropriately care for this family, important NANDA nursing diagnoses for SIDS would be
the Risk for Complicated Grieving related to Loss of Child secondary to SIDS and the Risk for
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome related to Deficient Knowledge of Prevention Techniques secondary
to Unsafe Sleeping Environment.
Important teachings to assist the family in understanding SIDS is ensuring that they know what the
risk factors are: maternal smoking, maternal alcohol use, co sleeping, prone sleeping, side lying
positions, and soft bedding. Parents must be educated on some protective factors that could help in
decreasing the risk of SIDS

How Did Alexander The Great Influence Rome
King Philip ruled ancient Greece from 359 BC right up to his death in 336 BC. After his demise, his
son, Alexander, took up his fathers mantle and continued his work as a ruler. Thus began the reign of
one of the greatest rulers in human history, Alexander the Great, who ruled almost all of the
Mediterranean. Alexander s empire strectched from Greece to India, spreading Greek ideas throughout
and many cities were named after the great ruler. Alexander s reign only lasted 13 years, but his
impact has left a mark on human history as many cities throughout Asia, Africa, and Europe still bare
his name and the fact that his death triggered the start of a new era. Alexander the Great ruled during
an era known as the Classical Era, which greatly influenced the Roman empire, this era ... Show more

The Hellenistic era ended in the year 31 B.C. with the battle of Actium, it was the final battle between
Octavian s army and Cleopatra s army. The Roman s not only conquered Italy, but it also had power
over the entire coast of the Adriatic sea and much like Alexander the Great, they were looking to
expand throughout the continent of Europe and seeked to conquer beyond Europe. After the battle of
Actium, the entire Hellenic world was under Rome s control and Greece was controlled by various
rulers until it s independence in the 19th century. The new Roman era was one that will change the
world forever with many wars and battles that shaped our history and of course, the birth and death of
Jesus Christ thus beginning a new world religion, Christianity. Now, every era in human history has
given us something that has shaped our contemporary world, the Hellenistic era gave us the modern

it centuries later. So where did the Hellenistic era get it s name and where did it come

High priority issues for SOUTHCOM and partner nations can differ despite their long history of

regional impunity commissions with the highest priority nations being in El Salvador and Honduras,
where everyone is charged with crimes and those found guilty could be held accountable regardless of
their political affiliation; (2) the reformation of political institutions to increase governability due to

Long Distance Information Delivery
Until the end of the 18th century, the fastest mode of long distance information delivery was by
horseback. Homing pigeons were used for shorter distances; as sending a message just one hundred
miles away by horseback took at least a day to arrive at its destination. At the start of the 19th century,
news from Europe took six weeks to reach the US. In 1858, a transatlantic cable connected North
America with Europe, reducing communication time from ten days to a matter of seconds. But as
recently as World War I, only a small elite had access to newspapers, and the dissemination of news
still lay in the hands of a small number of publishers. In the mid 1990s, the military transformed its

executed a bullish options strategy, and had a paper profit of over $2.4 million by the market close less
than thirty minutes later. When a reporter for the Wall Street Journal broke the Altera/Intel story, it was
not done through a story on the paper s website, but via a tweet on the reporter s Twitter account. By
the time the full story appeared, trading in Altera had halted as a result of the news of a possible
merger. At that point, it was impossible for other traders to act on the news of the possible buyout
(Intel ultimately acquired Altera in June of 2015). Stories like this underscore the relevance of social
media as an important source of financial information. Increasingly, today s trading desks look to
social media, Twitter in particular, for early, actionable information to gain an edge in executing their
daily workflow. It is not unusual for information related to the financial markets to appear on Twitter
prior to becoming available through mainstream sources, such as financial television outlets or the

Pros And Cons Of Dont Ask, DonT Tell
DADT, who knew that such a short abbreviation would cause such a large controversy that has been
long argued. That abbreviation stands for Don t Ask, Don t Tell and it is what the military has had in
place regarding gays in the military. Many people believe that the ban should be in place while many
say that it discrimination of a group of people. Both side has many pros and cons and there is no clear
and defined reason that gays should be in the military and there is clear reason that they should be
excluded from serving. In this controversy there is no clear right or wrong but is full of personnel
opinions and you must form your own opinion based on your beliefs.
This topic is not new and made it first appearance during the revolutionary war when severing as a
homosexual was considered a criminal offense (Herek). It then made a reappearance in 1942 when the
army mobilization first included procedures or rejecting gay recruits (Herek). From that point on the
ban was still in place that gays were not allowed in the military but were allowed to serve only when
there was a shortage of personnel and they were needed (Herek). In the beginning of 1993 it appeared
with the election of President Clinton the ban would be over turned (Herek). They would soon see that
the ban would not be completely overturned when Don t Ask, Don t Tell was created. DADT was
created in 1993 and allowed gays to sever as long as they did not openly say they were gay and if they

Effective Learning And Quality Teaching Practices
For any business society, it s imperative to have a population which is both literate and numerate since
these skills equip the children with necessary attributes which enable them to create a place for
themselves in this modern world.(Bynner, 2007)
Nowadays, it s a commonly accepted fact that the students having good literacy and numeracy skills
possess a positive attitude towards themselves and school and moreover, they do further studies and
grow into effective and employed adults.(Williams, 2003)
In today s competitive world, it is important and challenging to develop the requisite capabilities in the

Literacy
Despite the higher living standards of Australia, comparatively on a global basis, today almost half of
the population of Australia is facing difficulties and challenges with basic literacy, interpreting and
evaluating texts, paraphrasing and engaging with lengthy texts. (ABS, 2012)
To ensure the growth and development of students in Australia today, it has become increasingly
important for the educators to bring an improvement in the current teaching practices by making them
more effective since a well developed country is a country whose citizens are well educated and this is
done only by effective teaching strategies.
But the educators cannot be fairly considered responsible for the current situation of the literacy levels
in Australia as there are various other factors which may have led to such a situation like internet,
television, social networking. Although technology has been attributed with negative consequences,
such as the deterioration of culture, language and numeracy (REFERENCE), there are also a number
of technological advancements which have greatly aided the teaching of literacy, such as PowerPoint,
researching useful/relevant information on the Internet, SmartBoards.
Therefore, educators must adapt their teaching practices to incorporate technology into the classroom
in order to keep pace with the

Arctic Survival From Success to Failure
Contrary to the outcome exhibited by most other groups during the Arctic Survival exercise, our team

detrimental; in fact, our outcome was unique among the class and of great surprise to the professor
and entire class section. To be sure, pooling resources, elaboration of material, and support and
motivation, while perhaps more time consuming, typically offer improved results. In theory, this

member to other valid viewpoints. Many fall victim to commitment and consistency, which is the
tendency for individuals to adhere very strongly to a course of action because they feel pressure to act
in line with their original declared commitments. Indeed, K exhibited strong commitment and
consistency to certain declarations and did not back down. In particular, he was quite stubborn in his
opinion that rope was the second most important asset for survival behind matches. When pressed to

that rope was not necessary in killing prey for food (in comparison to the hand ax), and challenged
him to elaborate on his view. He tried to reason by convincing me that rope was the better choice, but

Assembly Line Olympics of History
Assembly Line Olympics of History Assembly lines are a big part of manufacturing in almost every
country in the world. Some work better than others, so an analytical breakdown would be required to
be able to tell which factories and countries are more effective than others, and what they do to get
that way. The function of organized work and division of labor has been around since ancient times.
On the timeline of organized work, the closer one gets to modern day, the more organized labor
becomes, and the more labor gets divided. It started with the three basic job groups, food, child care,
and shelter (Kranzberg, 1). Then, in places such as Greece, Rome, Egypt, and Mesopotamia, labor was
divided up by social classes. The rulers and nobility were the ones overseeing the work and directing
the economy, (Hannan, 2), while the priests held knowledge of writing, reading, math, and the more
scholarly subjects. Next down the line were clerks and scribes, (Kranzberg, 2), and then merchants
and traders underneath them who bought and sold goods. Then there were peasants, slaves, and lastly
prisoners of war who were forced to work. We can see some similarities of this ancient hierarchy in
modern day. The social/working pecking order of ancient times hasn t faded. We have the government
officials, the politicians, the doctors lawyers, the modern merchants and salesmen, the working class,
and even convicts who work to earn credit or are even forced to work.

Women In Poverty In The United States
In the United States today, women are far more likely than men to have lived below the poverty line at
some point in their lives. One in seven women are living in poverty today, with the number hovering
right around 14.7% compared to 10.9% of men (NWLC, 2015). It is undeniable that that is a serious
wage gap in the United States with women making cents to every dollar that a man makes for the
same work, and on top of that women are often working lower paying pink collar jobs in the first
place; for women of color, wages are even lower. Compound these problems with factors such as

Childcare would be a main concern, and affordable or even free childcare would be offered for the
residents children. This would allow for women to work outside of the home or go to school without
the added stress of worrying where there children are, who is taking care of them, and how much that
care is costing them. Childcare would also be beneficial to the children by giving them structure and
stability throughout their daily lives, something many of these children would be lacking. Apart from
childcare, the centers would also offer resources and programs such as GED courses, job training,
personal finance courses (for managing money, checkbooks, etc.), and even low cost health care. GED
courses are important for many women and could be instrumental in allowing that woman to find a
better job and eventually bettering her socioeconomic standing; with education comes mobility, and
women so desperately need some upward mobility to rise out of poverty. Job training would also help
address the lack of mobility that many women have. Through job training programs, women could
gain crucial skills such as how to dress and present themselves during their job hunt and how to create

The Canada Health Act
All health care in Canada is free for insured services, those provided through hospitals and physicians
(O Neill, 2008). With the enactment of the Canada Health Act, citizens may choose their own family
physician and do not have to pay premiums, deductibles, or co payments. Other services such as
prescription drugs or dental care must be paid for either out of pocket or through private insurances.
Because of this free care, O Neill (2008) argued that the demand for health care becomes unrestrained
causing costs to surge. This inexplicably triggered shortages in all provinces and explicit rationing had
to be implemented in Canada for certain medical treatments and technology (O Neill, 2008). The high
demand and severe shortages caused a large increase in private facilities providing core services.
Private Health Care
While the health care system in Canada covers basic services, including primary care physicians and
hospitals, some of Canada s provinces will provide additional services such as physiotherapy, dental
coverage, and prescription medicines (source). Though, if a citizen is a part of a province that does not
cover additional services or they require services that may not be covered like dental services,
optometrists, home care or prescription medications, they can seek out private health insurance plans
to help offset their medical expenses. These types of private plans can be purchased from private
insurance providers in order to supplement their

Heartbleed is a name that security researchers have given to a serious bug found in a very common
piece of software used by many websites. The software name was OpenSSL which is used to encrypt
the information that we send to and from websites. Heartbleed vulnerability in OpenSSL allowed
attackers to get sensitive data i.e. user s authentication credentials (login name, password) and secret

ORIGIN OF HEARTBLEED The name heartbleed is derived from Heartbeat extension. Heartbeat
extension is an extension for TLS and Datagram TLS. This standard was proposed on February 2012
by RFC 6520. Heartbeat provides a way to test and keep alive a secure communication link which is

The Effects Of Mainstreaming O Essay
Abstract A wide range of research has been done on the effects of mainstreaming on learning disabled
children. Although many studies have shown improvements and positive effects, none had addressed
the best time to implement mainstreaming programs. In this study, students, who had been diagnosed
as moderately learning disabled, were selected to represent their respective grade level. Group 1
consisted of 15 students in kindergarten through 2nd grade, and Group 2 consisted of 15 students in
grades 3rd through 5th. Both groups were given the Woodcock Johnson Tests of Achievement Revised

When these children are brought into the normal classroom, the strategy that many schools take on is
usually called a quot;collaborative teaching quot; approach. This is where special and regular
education teachers team up together to collaborate ideas and instruct students with disabilities in
general education classrooms (Martson, 1996). Studies have shown that not only do the learning
disabled students gain the potential to reach a higher academic standing when mainstreamed (Logan
amp; Malone, 1998), but they also are able to develop positive self images and improve social
development when included in the classrooms of normal children (Klinger, Vaughn, Schumm, Cohen,
amp; Forgan, 1998; Martson, 1996; Shinn et al., 1997). The increase in ability for learning disabled
students to recognize and identify words is one of the examples of an academic gain when included in
the normal classes (McCormick amp; Becker, 1996). When learning disabled students are
incorporated in the normal classroom, self esteem and feelings of self worth are believed to develop

Nordstrom’S Was Established In 1901 And Was A Retail Store
Nordstrom s was established in 1901 and was a retail store for shoes. Among the stores many goals
was to offer a wide selection of merchandise with outstanding quality and service. It was twenty two
years before they added a second store, and eventually became one of the largest shoe store chains in
the United States. They began offering clothing and accessories for the entire family. Right now, they
are one of the top luxury retailers with over 320 stores in 29 states in have expanded into Canada. I
have chosen to explore the financial health of Nordstrom from 2013 2014 and also compare it to one
of its top competitors; Macy s. Its other competitors in the market are Dillards, and Neiman Marcus.

By using profitability ratios, investors can measure the income or operating success of a company for
a given period of time. Earnings Per Share Ratio Nordstrom Earnings Per Share 2014 = 720/190 =
3.79 2013 = 734/194.5 = 3.77 Macy s 2014 = 1526/354.3 = 4.30 2013 = 1486/384.8 = 3.86 The
earnings per share ratio calculates the net income earned on each share of common stock. Nordstrom s
earnings per share was $3.77 in 2013 and increased to $3.79 in 2014; while its competitor Macy s, has
an earnings per share ratio of $4.30 in 2014. This ratio means that for every share of common stock
outstanding, Nordstrom has an income of $3.79 in 2014 and $3.77 in 2013. Compared to 2013,
Nordstrom had an increase of 2 cents in earnings per share, which depicts an increasing earning in its
shares of common stock. Macy s, on the other hand, had an income of $4.30 in 2014 for every share of
common stock outstanding, which is 51 cents higher than Nordstrom s ratio in 2014. This indicates
that Macys is more efficient in terms of generating its net income from their common stock
outstanding. Return on Assets Ratio Nordstrom Return on Assets 2014 = 720/(9245+8574/2) = 8%

Teen Pregnancy Causes
Some causes of Teen pregnancy are absent parenting, lack of knowledge, substance abuse, living in
poverty and peer pressure. The number of teens within the ages of 14 19 has substantially decreased
over the last several years. While examining the causes of teen pregnancy, new methods of prevention
can be defined. If there are different methods identified for preventing teen pregnancy than the number
of teens can go down more.
Absent parenting is one of the leading causes of teen pregnancy. Women who do not have both parents
in the picture are eight times more likely to become pregnant at a young age than someone who has
both parents. On account of absentee parents the time the parent leaves affect the risk that the child
has on becoming a teen parent. When a parent leaves or is present but does not engage with the child,
there is no one to lead by example. If there is no one for a teen to look up to they look for an
alternative that may not make the best choices. As a result of not having a parent present, when the
child executes a wrong decision, there is little to no discipline Decisions that are not in the best
interest of the teenager are likely to increase if they know there will be no punishment for their
actions. Also when there are not a present parent girls are prone to search for love in places that are
not healthy. While searching for love, girls often find men who are willing to take advantage of them.
The males in the relationship regularly start to push the

Smooth Muscle Contraction
Smooth muscle cells of the ileum spontaneously contract due to the presence of pacemaker cells,
called Cajal cells (Widmaier et al., 2014d). However, these smooth muscle they are also innervated by
autonomic nerves, which can be stimulated to change contraction rates by stimulating. Figure 1, shows
the effect of nerve stimulation of 17volts on isolated ileum tissue. Stimulating sympathetic
(sympathetic nerves was stimulated for this particular tissue), causes release of noradrenaline, which
inhabits contraction of smooth muscle cells. Furthermore, according to table 1, there is a 58.83%
change in contraction amplitude. It can be extrapolated that fewer smooth muscles are contracting. At
lower voltages, a weaker response was observed, as voltage is increased a stronger response was
observed. Increasing the voltage, means more neurons are being recruited (Widmaier et al., 2014b). In
this particular experiment, stimulation of nerves around the mesenteric artery caused an inhibitory
response, therefore at higher voltages, more smooth muscles are being inhibited.
The frequency was set to 20Hz. Interstitial cells of Cajal, are responsible for spontaneous contraction
of smooth muscle cells in the gastrointestinal tract (Widmaier et al., 2014d). Once ... Show more

To confirm this finding Phentolamine, which block adrenergic receptors, was added to the organ bath.
After 10 minutes, once the Phentolamine was in equilibrium with the solution, the nerve was

could not cause change in contraction of the muscle in the presence of Phentolamine. Thus, the nerve
being stimulated must be releasing noradrenaline. Noradrenaline, released by sympathetic nerve
causes decrease in motility, by inhibiting muscle contraction (Widmaier et al.,

The Disabled With The Utmost Kindness And Compassion
In today s society, people with disabilities are being ignored. Most others in good health don t consider
what life must be like for them. The treatment of these people has become an issue in this county, and
there are steps that need to be taken in order to resolve it. Treating the disabled with the utmost
kindness and compassion is an important undertaking which needs to endeavored upon. As disabilities
in our society are increasing, understanding both the situations the people are in and their perspectives
on them is of significance. A person is defined as disabled when they have a physical or mental
impairment which has a substantial effect on their ability to perform everyday activities. These long
term impairments include physical disabilities, mental disabilities, and sensory disabilities. This can
mean that they have mobility impairments, learning disabilities, mental illnesses, visual impairments,
or hearing impairments. In schools, students with disabilities are called EC students, which stands for
Exceptional Children. A person s disability could be present from birth, or they could occur during the
person s lifetime.
Statistics show that mental and physical disabilities are a worldwide problem. Within the United States
alone, about 25 million adults suffer from serious psychological distress. It has been estimated that
half of all Americans will have a diagnosable psychiatric condition at some point in their lives. In
most situations, people who are born with

What Are The Features Of Organizations And Formal,...
Objective Describe the features of organizations and bureaucracies formal, informal, gendered, and
network (Pages 179 195, 197). An organization is a collective purposely constructed to achieve
particular ends (pg 179). Sociology deals with organizations largely because of Max Weber s thinking
on a specific type of organization, the bureaucracies (pg 179). A bureaucracy is a highly rational
organization, especially one that is highly efficient (pg 179). In an ideal typical bureaucracy there is a
continuous series of offices, or positions, within the organization, each with its own function and set
of rules (pg 179). Other characteristics of a bureaucracy are: each office has a specified sphere of
competence, each of the offices exist in a vertical hierarchy, the positions have technical requirements,
those who hold those offices must undergo the needed training and do not own the things needed to do
the job for example, computers, desks, etc (pg 179). Lastly, those who occupy a particular office
cannot take the office as their own and everything of formal importance (administrative acts,
decisions, rules) is in writing (pg 180). Formal organization is how the organization is supposed to
work as in Weber s ideal typical formal bureaucracy, informal organization is how an organization
actually works as opposed to how it is supposed to work (pg 183). The informal organization can help
make up for inadequacies in the formal organization (Gulati and Puranam 2009).

Investigating The Effect Of Temperature On Enzyme Activity
INTRODUCTION
Aim:
To investigate how temperature affect enzyme activity.
Background information:
Enzymes are globular proteins (see figure 1) that can be found in all the living cells. They can be used
as biological catalysts by lowering the energy that the chemical reaction requires to occur. Certain
enzymes only catalyze certain biochemical reactions and this property is known as enzyme substrate
specificity. Living organisms can produce many different enzymes. In order to further explain enzyme
substrate specificity, a basic knowledge about active sites on enzymes is required. An active site is
where substrates can be bind to the enzymes and where the biochemical reactions are catalyzed.
Active sites can be found on all enzymes. They are on the surface of enzymes and once the substrate
fits into the active site successfully the biochemical reaction is catalyzed. After the products are
released from the active site, the enzyme can be used again. As has been said above Certain enzymes
only catalyze certain biochemical reactions . However, some enzymes can catalyze more than one
biochemical reaction. This happens when the substrate is closed to the enzyme, and the enzyme
changes the shape of the active site to fit the substrate.
Figure 1(the shape of enzymes)
Enzymes only work within certain temperature and pH ranges as they can be denatured at certain
temperatures and pHs. When the enzyme is denatured, the shape of the active site on the enzyme will
change. Once

Im sure most people have seen the raunchy pictures she posts of her self on twitter and instagram and

women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimised. This enraged thousands of
women and they took action by arranging a march in the streets of Toronto to protest against the idea

An Intensity Discrimination Study Search
Abstract
An intensity discrimination study searching to find out how many exposures of a stimulus it takes in
order for context coding to operate. It was predicted that there would be an increase in the percentage
of correct intensity discriminations as the number of trials increased because a roving standard was
used which allowed for context coding. Participants were given an intensity discrimination task where
two tones of different intensities were presented. Participants were asked to indicate which was louder.
Results showed that there was no improvement among any of the 6 trials, thus concluding that context
coding did not take place within 6 trials.
Introduction
Ones discriminatory ability in audition is considered to be the ability to detect a change in a given
auditory stimulus whenever one of its dimensions is increased or decreased. One topic in keen interest
of research is the role of memory in discriminating sound attributes. A dimension often studied is
frequency. To investigate the ability to discriminate frequency, two tones are presented to a listener
with an inter stimulus interval. The listener then indicates which tone is higher in pitch. Changes in
interval length is used to investigate the role of memory when discriminating sounds attributes.
Anderson (1914) studied inter stimulus intervals up to 4 seconds in relation to discrimination and
concluded that all intervals tested are equally favourable, with a slight deterioration in the 4 second

Cultural Issues In The Graduate Movie
During the 1960 s, the film industry was in a downward spiral, facing extinction. In the early 60 s,
studios were producing less than half as many films per year compared to the films produced in the
previous decades. As more esteemed directors retired, there was a decline in artistic development
while several studios struggled financially due to their ill advised production budgets. It was not until
the late 1960 s that a promising Broadway director by the name of Mike Nichols, would go on to
create what would be known as a box office champion of the decade (Text 230), proving that film was
not yet dead. The Graduate, released in 1967, is a cinematic masterpiece directed by Mike Nichols

The Problem Of Working Capital Management
Introduction What people are not aware of is that working capital management is in itself
comparatively candid, in order to make certain that the company is competent enough to actually fund
the difference between short range assets short range liabilities. In reality, even so, working capital
management has fairly become the weakness of scores of finance companies, with many CFOs efforts
to recognize core/centre working capital drive forces and the suitable level or stage of working capital.
Which is the reason; companies can be minimal in their capability to experience and survive
unforeseen or unfavorable events and see to it, that the cash or money is readily on hand as it is
necessary, in spite of the situation or circumstances. So, by comprehending the role and driving forces
of working capital management and taking the necessary steps in order to reach the correct levels of
working capital, companies then can start to decrease their risk, effectually get ready for uncertain
doubt and enhance general performance. Also, managing good working capital chiefly calls for
managing and controlling the cash flows of a company on an everyday, weekly, and monthly activity,
in this way, they will be fulfilling all debts, although, still reserving enough assets or capital to stay in
operations and the creation of profits. Moreover, working capital management is not an end. As such,
it is a basic part of the department s general overall management. The requirements

Textual Analysis Of Wings Of Desire, By Wim Wenders
Wings of Desire Wings of Desire is a German film by director Wim Wenders released in 1987. The
scene I want to focus on for the textual analysis is the scene in which the angel Cassiel attempts to
comfort a suicidal man, but his attempts at comfort fail when the man jumps off of a building, causing
Cassiel to descend into a spiral of grief and anger. The scene starts with a sound bridge between a shot
of birds in flight and a shot of a man sitting on the edge of a building. The sound of the birds mixes
with non diegetic music and the sound of the man s thoughts. The viewers can hear his thoughts,
which is symbolized by his non diegetic stream of consciousness monologue. The actor s mouth does
not move, but the viewers still hear his monologue, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then there are a few interlude shots of Peter Falk, before the montage, which is a maelstrom of
quickly paced short shots. The short, confusing shots serve to disorient the viewer and put them in the
same headspace as Cassiel, who is grieving, as well as to create symbolic meaning. In between the
handheld shots that progress through the city, there are shots of people that are vulnerable or hurt.
There is a shot of a woman lying on a staircase, a shot of a man on a bench, possibly an index pointing
at him being homeless, a fighting couple, a child crying for his mother, and footage that seems to be
from during the war, intercutting with shots of a bird s wings. Bird s wings are symbolically
associated with angels, and these shots intercut with shots of war and destruction, linking the two
together, the angel is the powerless witness of the war. The viewer understands the shots in the
montage to be from the angel s point of view; he is the one who sees all that pain and carries the
burden of comfort. Jump cuts are used as well throughout the montage, for example in the shot of the
women in the staircase, further increasing the sense of frantic confusion, and an example of poetic
rather than practical language, as the information is not delivered in a straightforward

The Effects Of Sexual Abuse On Women
One of the greatest fears that affect women worldwide is getting sexually attacked. These are
occasions that leave the victims with emotional scars that last a lifetime. Sexual abuse is an act that
underline inhumane and repulsions of torment for women. The horrors are an understatement when
the victims are kids. Most women, who have encountered rape, have had the assault in their younger
ages. Recuperating from such recollections and scars can result into two actions; carrying on with a
productive life or committing suicide. In Morrow and Smith s study that was published in 1995,
depicted a portion of the women who survived the ordeal and managed to adapt with the emotional

Martin Luther King, The Southern Christian Leadership...
Under the leadership of Martin Luther King, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC),
bought the Black Civil Rights Movement and his desegregation concepts to Birmingham in 1963 for
several reasons. The most pivotal of these reasons being his African American racial status and his
Christian faith which drove him to fight for the rights his people deserved.
He believed that the most racial injustice lay not only in the Southern states of America but in
Birmingham, Alabama as expressed in his 1963 Letter from a Birmingham Jail, to fellow clergymen
who criticized his methods, King stating, I am in Birmingham because injustice is here. In
Birmingham, much like other Southern American States public facilities such as parks, movie theatres,
lunch bars, restaurants, and water fountains were segregated (African Americans had different, lesser
facilities than the Whites) which ultimately led King, SCLC, and ordinary African American citizens
to hold these non violent protests to have the desegregation they had sought after for many years.
His second reason to bring the Black Civil Rights Movement to Birmingham was due to their
Commissioner of Public Safety, Eugene Bull Connor. Connor was greatly opposed to the idea of
segregation and King knew Connor s reaction to the non violent movement he had proposed would be
one of violence and aggression. The town also had a history of extreme violence, not only towards
African Americans but nigger lovers alike. Examples

Wesley decides to lock Frank up in his basement for the time being because he is disordered about the situation. Everybody is aware that it isn t right or smart for Wesley to lock Frank up in the basement. Len even says, Some sharp lawyers going to raise hell about you keeping Frank locked up like this (Watson 134). Len is right because it is very wrong and foolish of Wesley to do that and he should have taken Frank to jail. Wesley later does realize what he is doing is wrong and says, this isn t about my family, this is a legal matter (108), and decides to take Frank to jail first thing the next morning. • 3. Informative Speech About Uganda Uganda Hello fellow United Nations members, it is an honour to be here. While the MDG s can be considered a global success as they have enhanced the lives of many people within developing nations, it is still important to note that there are still glaring factors in developing countries that are holding them back. Therefore, it is important that we take note of these factors and try to work on them in order to improve the lives of everyone within these countries. A country that I strongly believe needs to be focused on is Uganda. Hence, in this speech, I will analyse the characteristics that have inhibited development in line with the United Nations MDG s and address the progress of Uganda. By the end of the speech, the recommended appropriate strategies to achieve the goals/improve on them will be provided. It is hypothesised that although corruption and Civil War have held Uganda back, social influences along with poverty has stopped Uganda from reaching all their goals. Uganda faces many problems that inhibit their development such as Civil War. As stated by Global Security conflict and violence have plagued much of Uganda since independence (Global Security, N.D). This is largely due to the Civil War and corruption the country faces daily. Civil War has played a long part in Uganda s history dating back to 1962 with 14 insurgencies occurring within the country since 1971. The Civil War dramatically worsened when Joseph Kony, leader of the Lord s resistance army (LRA) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Cadbury Worldwide Case Study It is interesting to read the article about Cadbury Worldwide. From perspectives of 3 three different cultures. While it might be lucrative to start providing your services, or selling products across your borders, an option should be thought of as real journey of discovering new cultures and customs of different groups of people. It will be useful to understand them and how to do business in their countries. Be aware of the regulation and standards are important. There are two examples of the purchasing Cadbury UK by the American food gain Kraft and how the two work cultures of the American and the British are different. Cadbury is a leader in the UK confectionery market. the interaction between American managers and British managers and workers after purchasing Cadbury by the American owned Kraft is an example how two different cultures may clash with each other. As highlighted by Tarique, Briscoe, and Schuler (2016) that one of the biggest mistakes the HR management of MNE s fall in is navigating through the myriad of local laws and regulations with assumptions that worked in their homeland will work somewhere else. The MNE s should choose the right approaches to deal with employment relations to ensure that will have a healthy work environment and get the desired results. and productivity level. There are seven approaches suggested. I think in the case of Cadbury UK, it will be beneficial to use the guide and advice approach through which the parent company may provide ... • 5. Reaction Paper About Imelda Marcos It is without a doubt that she is beautiful. Despite our ability to perceive beauty as something beyond one s exterior, Imelda Marcos charmed her audiences with her porcelain and flawless skin, her distinct up do, her demeanor, and her numerous shoes. People still clamor for her and some still worship the ground she walks on. As an influential woman, she aimed to inspire others to live by God, love and beauty as she had, albeit the methods. Little does she recognize, however, that despite her seemingly heroic attempts to reclaim Filipino identity, she illustrated how beguiled men and women to believe her and her husband as agents of change for several years before they finally rid themselves of the smoke and mirrors. The focus of the documentary was Imelda Romualdez Marcos who lived inside her personal bubble while living inside a plush home with large ceilings and walls covered in Italian leather and embroidery. Coming from a powerful and affluent family, Imelda Marcos has been both secluded and exposed for most of her younger years. She was considered in seclusion because she did not know the pains the underprivileged underwent to survive daily. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... PeTA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) provided information about the types and alternatives of testing. The website also listed alternatives to animal testing, such as the Human skin models, which are considered in this report. News articles by the BBC were very helpful when considering the pros and cons of animal testing. A blog by The Beauty Brains provided a scientist s opinion. SIDS Essay Educating Parents and Caregivers on the Prevention of SIDS Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the unexplained death of an infant less than one year of age after having done a complete postmortem examination and investigation of the scene of death. There are no causes that have been found that make it clear as to why SIDS is so common. The rate of SIDS decreased dramatically when the Back to Sleep campaign was started to encourage parents and caregivers that infants were placed on their back while sleeping (Hockenberry Wilson, 2015, p. 473). The cause of SIDS is still unknown but autopsies have been reliable in showing consistent findings pathologically that reveal whether a child has pulmonary edema or intrathoracic hemorrhages that could possibly confirm a diagnosis. Autopsies should be done in every infant and the results should be shared with the parents as soon as they are completed (Hockenberry Wilson, 2016, p. 476). Important critical assessments to make regarding SIDS is identifying risk factors that could potentially lead to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and ensuring to educate the caregivers on techniques to prevent these deaths. Some complications that may arise with SIDS could be a sense of hopelessness for the family of the infant. The parents may feel guilty and blame themselves for the death of their child. To appropriately care for this family, important NANDA nursing diagnoses for SIDS would be the Risk for Complicated Grieving related to Loss of Child secondary to SIDS and the Risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome related to Deficient Knowledge of Prevention Techniques secondary to Unsafe Sleeping Environment. Important teachings to assist the family in understanding SIDS is ensuring that they know what the risk factors are: maternal smoking, maternal alcohol use, co sleeping, prone sleeping, side lying positions, and soft bedding. Some work better than others, so an analytical breakdown would be required to be able to tell which factories and countries are more effective than others, and what they do to get that way. The function of organized work and division of labor has been around since ancient times. On the timeline of organized work, the closer one gets to modern day, the more organized labor becomes, and the more labor gets divided. It started with the three basic job groups, food, child care, and shelter (Kranzberg, 1). Then, in places such as Greece, Rome, Egypt, and Mesopotamia, labor was divided up by social classes. The rulers and nobility were the ones overseeing the work and directing the economy, (Hannan, 2), while the priests held knowledge of writing, reading, math, and the more scholarly subjects. Next down the line were clerks and scribes, (Kranzberg, 2), and then merchants and traders underneath them who bought and sold goods. Then there were peasants, slaves, and lastly prisoners of war who were forced to work. We can see some similarities of this ancient hierarchy in modern day. The social/working pecking order of ancient times hasn t faded. We have the government officials, the politicians, the doctors lawyers, the modern merchants and salesmen, the working class, and even convicts who work to earn credit or are even forced to work. ... With the enactment of the Canada Health Act, citizens may choose their own family physician and do not have to pay premiums, deductibles, or co payments. Other services such as prescription drugs or dental care must be paid for either out of pocket or through private insurances. Because of this free care, O Neill (2008) argued that the demand for health care becomes unrestrained causing costs to surge. This inexplicably triggered shortages in all provinces and explicit rationing had to be implemented in Canada for certain medical treatments and technology (O Neill, 2008). The high demand and severe shortages caused a large increase in private facilities providing core services. Studies have shown that not only do the learning disabled students gain the potential to reach a higher academic standing when mainstreamed (Logan amp; Malone, 1998), but they also are able to develop positive self images and improve social development when included in the classrooms of normal children (Klinger, Vaughn, Schumm, Cohen, amp; Forgan, 1998; Martson, 1996; Shinn et al., 1997). However, these smooth muscle they are also innervated by autonomic nerves, which can be stimulated to change contraction rates by stimulating. Figure 1, shows the effect of nerve stimulation of 17volts on isolated ileum tissue. Stimulating sympathetic (sympathetic nerves was stimulated for this particular tissue), causes release of noradrenaline, which inhabits contraction of smooth muscle cells. Furthermore, according to table 1, there is a 58.83% change in contraction amplitude. It can be extrapolated that fewer smooth muscles are contracting. At lower voltages, a weaker response was observed, as voltage is increased a stronger response was observed. Increasing the voltage, means more neurons are being recruited (Widmaier et al., 2014b). In this particular experiment, stimulation of nerves around the mesenteric artery caused an inhibitory response, therefore at higher voltages, more smooth muscles are being inhibited. Sociology deals with organizations largely because of Max Weber s thinking on a specific type of organization, the bureaucracies (pg 179). A bureaucracy is a highly rational organization, especially one that is highly efficient (pg 179). In an ideal typical bureaucracy there is a continuous series of offices, or positions, within the organization, each with its own function and set of rules (pg 179). Other characteristics of a bureaucracy are: each office has a specified sphere of competence, each of the offices exist in a vertical hierarchy, the positions have technical requirements, those who hold those offices must undergo the needed training and do not own the things needed to do the job for example, computers, desks, etc (pg 179). Lastly, those who occupy a particular office cannot take the office as their own and everything of formal importance (administrative acts, decisions, rules) is in writing (pg 180). Formal organization is how the organization is supposed to work as in Weber s ideal typical formal bureaucracy, informal organization is how an organization actually works as opposed to how it is supposed to work (pg 183). The informal organization can help make up for inadequacies in the formal organization (Gulati and Puranam 2009). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Investigating The Effect Of Temperature On Enzyme Activity INTRODUCTION Aim: To investigate how temperature affect enzyme activity. Background information: Enzymes are globular proteins (see figure 1) that can be found in all the living cells. They can be used as biological catalysts by lowering the energy that the chemical reaction requires to occur. Certain enzymes only catalyze certain biochemical reactions and this property is known as enzyme substrate specificity. Living organisms can produce many different enzymes. In order to further explain enzyme substrate specificity, a basic knowledge about active sites on enzymes is required. An active site is where substrates can be bind to the enzymes and where the biochemical reactions are catalyzed. Active sites can be found on all enzymes. They are on the surface of enzymes and once the substrate fits into the active site successfully the biochemical reaction is catalyzed. After the products are released from the active site, the enzyme can be used again. As has been said above Certain enzymes only catalyze certain biochemical reactions . However, some enzymes can catalyze more than one biochemical reaction. This happens when the substrate is closed to the enzyme, and the enzyme changes the shape of the active site to fit the substrate. Figure 1(the shape of enzymes) Enzymes only work within certain temperature and pH ranges as they can be denatured at certain temperatures and pHs. When the enzyme is denatured, the shape of the active site on the enzyme will change. Once ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Experts say that if we don t minimize the impacts of development and reduce air pollution, Australia s global footprint will not stay within the planets capacity to sustain life and natural resources. This is due to the high level and concentration of industry compared to our population. In Australia 3000 deaths each year are caused by air pollution. Amber Rose has gone from being a stripper, to featuring in music videos, to walking down the runway, to marrying Wiz Khalifa, to writing a book and now, to being a feminist and having her own organisation and holding The Amber Rose SlutWalk event in LA. Im sure most people have seen the raunchy pictures she posts of her self on twitter and instagram and with no previous knowledge about her being a feminist I question her intensions behind it. Is it genuine ? Or is it just another publicity stunt to help further her career. I will be looking at fellow spectators gaze on this issue and will analyse the points that work in her favour and those that go against it. A Slut walk is a relatively new transitional movement that came about in 2011 after a Police officer named Michael Sanguinetti made a remark whilst giving a talk in a school on health and safety that women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimised. This enraged thousands of women and they took action by arranging a march in the streets of Toronto to protest against the idea that the victim of rape is to blame because of how she is dressed. They were also fighting against slut shaming, and sexual profiling. In this march women were dressed purposely in revealing outfits, some even topless, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. An Intensity Discrimination Study Search Abstract An intensity discrimination study searching to find out how many exposures of a stimulus it takes in order for context coding to operate. It was predicted that there would be an increase in the percentage of correct intensity discriminations as the number of trials increased because a roving standard was used which allowed for context coding. Participants were given an intensity discrimination task where two tones of different intensities were presented. Participants were asked to indicate which was louder. Results showed that there was no improvement among any of the 6 trials, thus concluding that context coding did not take place within 6 trials. Introduction Ones discriminatory ability in audition is considered to be the ability to detect a change in a given auditory stimulus whenever one of its dimensions is increased or decreased. One topic in keen interest of research is the role of memory in discriminating sound attributes. A dimension often studied is frequency. To investigate the ability to discriminate frequency, two tones are presented to a listener with an inter stimulus interval. The listener then indicates which tone is higher in pitch. Changes in interval length is used to investigate the role of memory when discriminating sounds attributes. Anderson (1914) studied inter stimulus intervals up to 4 seconds in relation to discrimination and concluded that all intervals tested are equally favourable, with a slight deterioration in the 4 second ... • 36. The Problem Of Working Capital Management Introduction What people are not aware of is that working capital management is in itself comparatively candid, in order to make certain that the company is competent enough to actually fund the difference between short range assets short range liabilities. In reality, even so, working capital management has fairly become the weakness of scores of finance companies, with many CFOs efforts to recognize core/centre working capital drive forces and the suitable level or stage of working capital. Which is the reason; companies can be minimal in their capability to experience and survive unforeseen or unfavorable events and see to it, that the cash or money is readily on hand as it is necessary, in spite of the situation or circumstances. So, by comprehending the role and driving forces of working capital management and taking the necessary steps in order to reach the correct levels of working capital, companies then can start to decrease their risk, effectually get ready for uncertain doubt and enhance general performance. Also, managing good working capital chiefly calls for managing and controlling the cash flows of a company on an everyday, weekly, and monthly activity, in this way, they will be fulfilling all debts, although, still reserving enough assets or capital to stay in operations and the creation of profits. Moreover, working capital management is not an end. As such, it is a basic part of the department s general overall management. The requirements ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The scene I want to focus on for the textual analysis is the scene in which the angel Cassiel attempts to comfort a suicidal man, but his attempts at comfort fail when the man jumps off of a building, causing Cassiel to descend into a spiral of grief and anger. The scene starts with a sound bridge between a shot of birds in flight and a shot of a man sitting on the edge of a building. The sound of the birds mixes with non diegetic music and the sound of the man s thoughts. The viewers can hear his thoughts, which is symbolized by his non diegetic stream of consciousness monologue. Then there are a few interlude shots of Peter Falk, before the montage, which is a maelstrom of quickly paced short shots. The short, confusing shots serve to disorient the viewer and put them in the same headspace as Cassiel, who is grieving, as well as to create symbolic meaning. In between the handheld shots that progress through the city, there are shots of people that are vulnerable or hurt. There is a shot of a woman lying on a staircase, a shot of a man on a bench, possibly an index pointing at him being homeless, a fighting couple, a child crying for his mother, and footage that seems to be from during the war, intercutting with shots of a bird s wings. Bird s wings are symbolically associated with angels, and these shots intercut with shots of war and destruction, linking the two together, the angel is the powerless witness of the war. The viewer understands the shots in the montage to be from the angel s point of view; he is the one who sees all that pain and carries the burden of comfort. Jump cuts are used as well throughout the montage, for example in the shot of the women in the staircase, further increasing the sense of frantic confusion, and an example of poetic rather than practical language, as the information is not delivered in a straightforward ... • 40. Martin Luther King, The Southern Christian Leadership... Under the leadership of Martin Luther King, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), bought the Black Civil Rights Movement and his desegregation concepts to Birmingham in 1963 for several reasons. The most pivotal of these reasons being his African American racial status and his Christian faith which drove him to fight for the rights his people deserved. He believed that the most racial injustice lay not only in the Southern states of America but in Birmingham, Alabama as expressed in his 1963 Letter from a Birmingham Jail, to fellow clergymen who criticized his methods, King stating, I am in Birmingham because injustice is here. In Birmingham, much like other Southern American States public facilities such as parks, movie theatres, lunch bars, restaurants, and water fountains were segregated (African Americans had different, lesser facilities than the Whites) which ultimately led King, SCLC, and ordinary African American citizens to hold these non violent protests to have the desegregation they had sought after for many years. His second reason to bring the Black Civil Rights Movement to Birmingham was due to their Commissioner of Public Safety, Eugene Bull Connor. Connor was greatly opposed to the idea of segregation and King knew Connor s reaction to the non violent movement he had proposed would be one of violence and aggression.
