There has been a rise in gun violence in the United States for the past few years killing several victims
that gotten caught in cross fire, mass shootings, and in crime. In 2012, there were over a dozen mass
shooting incidents with two standing out as especially tragic. One of the shootings ended with 12
people dead and 58 others harmed and only tis amount because the shooter gun was jammed. The
second mass shooting involved a man not only killing his mom but also elementary school children
and some of the people working there, then later himself. With an increase of innocent people deaths
due to guns there has not been a change or an increase in gun laws to lowers the death rates. In the
State of Texas, it s citizens at the age 18 can walk in a store and buy a rifle without a license or any
background checks. They must be at least 21 years of age to purchase a gun that cannot be seen such
as a handgun. The other requirements are to be a resident of that state, have an identification card, a
completion of a handgun proficiency test by a qualified instructor. A person is not allowed to have a
weapon with a felony but can have a ticket and/or misdemeanor. After a purchase of a gun, that person
must keep it concealed and has a concealed license to carry it around on them but the clip must be out
of the gun when driving in a car. Before going in any stores there will be a sign that say no guns

There some people that are incredibly street smart but do not fair so well in school but in Gerald Graff
s Hidden Intellectualism Graff argues that street smarts are just as important as book smarts. Graff
says that It is a matter of finding points of convergence and translation, moments when student
discourse can be translated into academic discourse and vice versa, producing a kind of bilingualism
on both sides of the student teacher divide (Graff, Hidden Intellectualism). In other words, for a
student with street smarts to learn to read academically, students need to read things that interest them,
encouraging them to dive into their reading, forming an opinion and arguing their point. When you
think about it this does makes sense, you can t get that student to read more intellectual readings
without first starting with something that interest them and then let them naturally move toward more
intellectual reading. I myself was this way in high school, I was always uninterested in the required
readings. Many times, failed to even read them and when I did it was just to get a grade. I never really
formed my own opinion of the reading, except for the fact that I just didn t like it. However, when we
could pick our own reading material, something that interested me, I was more drawn in and able to
form my own opinion, caring about what I was reading. By doing so this allows students with street

The social norm that I decided to violate was wearing my sweatshirt backwards the whole school day.
I wore it all day, even in the morning and at home. I also went so far as to wear it backwards to all of
my piano lessons that I teach. This was one of the main reasons I wanted to violate this particular
social norm. I knew that I would get good reactions out of my students. Before I put it on backwards,
honestly I was a little nervous even though this really isn t that big of a deal. I was also really excited
about wearing it in front of the kids I teach. I didn t get a lot of reactions at school so I was looking
forward to the lessons. When I answered the door for my first student, she gave me the funniest look,
but she didn t say anything to me. Instead, she just walked in and was silent for most of the lesson. My
second student asked so many questions when I tried to explain it to her.
The next student couldn t even focus on the lesson. She was about six years old so she couldn t stop
laughing every time she looked at me. When I would lean over to help her, she would pull on my
hood. Pretty soon, I ended up just having her play her songs the best she could so that she would

Imagine yourself as a child with restricted movements and impairments not felt by others your age.
Imagine for a longing to be free, free from the restricting walls of the hospital and therapy room.
Freedom was a goal that Anne and Tom had for their son William. They wanted freedom of the
traditional therapy setting because watching their child make little to no progress therapy session after
therapy session left Anne and Tom discouraged. They wanted nothing more for their son than to thrive
and develop the new skills that they knew he could. William has hypotonia, or low muscle tone and
some overall developmental delays said Anne. His parents set several goals, but their first goal was to
get William to learn to walk. Watching his therapy sessions in the traditional setting were painful as
parents. They were feeling hopeless with the lack of progress with the physical therapy sessions
William was attending. The Physical therapist herself felt that there was not much more that she could
do there in the hospital for William. That s when she recommended hippotherapy. Hippotherapy is
what would eventually get William to his goal of walking in 3 short months, and though not a therapy

Privacy, meaning the right to be left alone, has intellectual roots tracing back to the 19th century. On
December 15, 1890, Samuel D. Warren and Louis D. Brandeis had their article The Right to Privacy
published in the Harvard Law Review. This article was highly regarded as one of the exceptional
examples of the effect legal journals have on American law, and was the first of many future law
review discussions. It is our purpose to consider whether the existing law affords a principle which
can properly be invoked to protect the privacy of the individual; and if it does what the nature and
extent of such protection is (Gregory, Kalven, and Epstein 1133). Warren and Brandeis stressed the
importance and necessity for some form of protection for the private individual when the press is
overstepping their boundaries and the indecency their gossip creates. Several decades later, in August
of 1960, William L. Prosser published his article Privacy in the California Law Review. In this article
he outlined the four classifications of privacy law which are as follows:
1. Intrusion upon the plaintiff s seclusion or solitude, or into his private affairs.
2. Public disclosure of embarrassing private facts about the plaintiff.
3. Publicity which places the plaintiff in a false light in the public eye.

Connie s Coming of Age In her famous short story, Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been,
Joyce Carol Oates shows the transition from childhood to adulthood through her character Connie.
Each person experiences this transition in their own way and time. For some it is leaving home for the
first time to go to college, for others it might be having to step up to a leadership position. No matter
what, this transition affects everyone; it just happens to everyone differently. Oates describes Connie s
unfortunate coming of age in a much more violent and unexpected way than the typical coming of age

Friend as the tempter and trickster he is. Many believe that Friend represents either the Devil or a

masquerading as a teenager; he also has all the traditional sinister traits of that arch deceiver and
source of grotesque terror, the devil (Wegs 68). An example of these deceitful traits would be him
lying and tricking Connie with his young faced persona and using this distraction to force her to face
the horrible choice of sacrificing herself or her family. Another opinion of Friend is that the Devil is

contest any of his decisions have been receiving feelings of anger from those who support him. I,
