Secretary Of Education Report Charts The Future Of United...
Secretary of Education Recommendation Paper
DaWayne D. Nettles
Columbia College
2015
The Secretary of Education report charts the future of United States higher education and outlines
various recommendations to improve it. As higher education evolves in unexpected ways, this new
landscape demands innovation and flexibility from the institutions that serve the nation s learners.
The recommendations mentioned include assess, cost and affordability, financial aid, learning,
transparency and accountability, and finally innovation. One of the most significant
recommendations that needs to definitely be address is the issue of cost and affordability of higher
education.
The way higher education is being financed is becoming increasingly dysfunctional. State
appropriations are declining; educational cost is rising; and cost per student is increasing faster than
inflation or family income. Affordability is directly affected by a financing system that provides
limited incentives for colleges and universities to take aggressive steps to improve institutional
efficiency and productivity. Public worry about increasing expenses might eventually add to the
disintegration of open trust in higher education. Only through reform can confidence in higher
education in America be renewed. The Secretary of Education s report states that America must
ensure that our citizens have access to high quality and affordable educational, learning, and
training opportunities throughout

Advantages Of Pair Trading
Pair trading can be carried out in many methods of which distance trading and co integration models
are the most important methods.
Gatev et al. (2006) test a pairs trading strategy over 1962 to 2002 and provide valuable insights
into the development of the risk and return characteristics over time. It is perhaps the most cited
paper on pairs trading and uses distance method. They form pairs over a twelve month period
based on minimizing the squared deviations between normalized price series of the two securities.
They back test a simple trading algorithm with daily data in the period 1962 2002 using S P 500
constituents and find average annualised returns of up to 11% for portfolios of pairs. Although the
proposed strategy is profitable the authors note that returns have declined in recent years, possible
due to increased competition among hedge funds and/or a reduction in the importance of an
underlying common factor that drives the returns in a pairs trading strategy. A thorough analysis of
the risk characteristics shows that returns have a high risk adjusted alpha and an insignificant
exposure to sources of systematic risk. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that possibilities for profit are greatest soon after equilibrium divergence, and that the divergence is
strongly related to how information disperses through the stocks that form the pair. Idiosyncratic
liquidity shocks result in higher profitability than idiosyncratic news and when there is information
common to both legs of the pair, profit possibilities may arise when the information is more quickly

Planned Behavior And Theory Of Reasoned Action
Measuring suicide has developed significantly in the last few decades. Cases are reported more
accurately than ever before, yet it is still described as one of the most complex public health
concerns. There is no definite pathophysiological explanation of suicide yet, however other models
and theories help to interpret the phenomena of this form of self injury (Chang, 2011). There tends
to be a spectrum regarding positions on this behavior, what society views as normal versus
abnormal. Much research has been conducted using the Theory of Planned Behavior and Theory of
Reasoned Action (TRA/TPB). With these theories, the focus relies more on social behavior rather
than a mental health issue or disorder (Armitage, 2004). Western philosophers

Representatives of 50 nations met in San Francisco in April through June 1945 to complete the
Charter of the United Nations.
(Messerli,Joe. 2017) The Roosevelt Administration strove at their best and strongest ability to
avoid the mistakes Woodrow Wilson made in the failure of the League of Nations and as well as
selling the League of Nations to the Senate of the United States Of America. This oddly sought
bicameral support from the Republican Party ( Roosevelt s Administration was purely Democrat )
and the Republican Party endorsed the United States participation in a postwar international
organization, in which Congress overwhelmingly endorsed participation, with a 77% approval rate
from Congress itself.
Roosevelt as well sought to convince the public that an international organization was needed and
it would be the best interest to prevent future conflicts in the future. The Senate approved the UN
Charter on July 28, 1945, by a vote of 89 to 2. The United Nations came into existence on October
24,1945, after 29 Nations had ratified the Charter.
The United Nations started on a steep downward trajectory from the high expectations that
surrounded it at its birth. The global security organization envisaged in the Charter of the United
Nations, based on a perpetuation of the victorious alliance against Nazi Germany, was stillborn
because of the rapidly developing rift between the Soviet Union and its Western allies. The

Personal Statement On Personal Finance
Knowledge about personal finance is not always common knowledge and although money
touches most modern homes, most parents don t teach their kids about money either. It can be
hard to find time in a busy schedule to figure out when and how to adjust your time to set up a
proper budget so instead you just decide to live pay check to paycheck because it got your
parents by and now it gets you by and that has just always worked. One day you have to grow up
and realize that those consequences of being financially stupid will come back to haunt you.
Introduction
The biggest issue that individuals have with their personal income is the lack of understanding
where and how to control their spending habits and sometimes when to pay bills. This causes a
great deal of anxiety, stress, depression, unkempt hygiene and possibly even losing the very job
that is keeping their income flowing in to start with. With couples, the number one cause of
relationship issues that are brought in front of a therapist and the number one cause of divorce
just so happens to be financially related. The hardest yet most important thing to do when it
comes to your finances, it to stop getting overwhelmed and take control back of your money and
your life. Most people don t know where to start when it comes to taking control of their finances.
When I think of the short term aspect of personal finances, I think of the here the now and the
coming few months, maybe even up to a year. If you are

Why The Uk Should Join The Eurozone
A question reviewed on numerous occasions, weather the UK should join the Eurozone,
considering what a currency union intakes, the benefits and costs, a judgment can be entailed
weather the Eurozone would be a valid investment for an economy such as the UK. Exchange rate,
capital risk, interest rates or any monetary policyand fiscal policies, shall be taken in to account
when formation a judgment to weather the UK should become a member of the Eurozone. The
heart of this case is revolved around interest rates and to whether it shall cause a great impact on

A currency union is where more than two economies share the same currency, without having any

The Eurozone is the economic region formed by those member countries of the European Union
that have adopted the euro. (Perry, S. 1994).

Open by Andre Agassi
Through the eyes of an eight year old, Andre Agassi shares his private life and background of
becoming a world famous tennis player, in his autobiography Open from 2009. Already from the
beginning Andre Agassi narrates about the family s more or less tense relationship to each other
and how the tennis player s career is affected of his social heritage. This is the three main themes
Andre Agassi gets around in his story about his early life.
First, Andre Agassi tells about the grandmother s relationship with the father, the mother and
himself. There is a continuously negative and tense tone, and it is easy that the narrator does not
like his father s mother. He even says, I m only eight, but I ll drive her to the airport myself...

SГёren Kierkegaard s father was a dark and tough man, who made SГёren Kierkegaard notice the
darker sides of life. It inspired him to create the philosophy he had. This is a bit like Andre Agassi s

His father is very negative and pressures Andre Agassi a lot. SГёren Kierkegaard s father is just
affecting SГёren Kierkegaard by his own way of seeing life, not by pressure. Also the two famous
males have two more passive mothers.
As a conclusion of Andre Agassi s autobiography Open one can say that the relationships
between the generations is not as good as it could be. The grandmother harasses her son and this
son and father pressures Andre Agassi. The relationships are very negative in a lot of ways, but
either way it ended up shaping the world famous tennis player. This is also how his life and career
has been affected by his social heritage. But that might just be the message; diamonds are made

Voter Registration Fraud Case Study
If accurate voter rolls aren t incentive, then maybe cost saving is. Since regulations very state to
state, it is hard to assess national cost. Considering money is a motivating factor to change, a case
study for registration cost was done using Oregon as the test subject. Pew considered every level of
registration. Beginning locally, it determined printing and postage, staff salaries, and facilities.
Additionally, the Secretary of State incurs expenses related to maintain the voter rolls, providing
and distributing registration forms, training and assisting agencies involved with voter registration,
and manning the toll free call center for public questions regarding registration. All totaled, Oregon
spent almost nine million dollars registering voters for the 2008 election, that s $4.11 per active
registered voter or $7.67 per registration transaction (Pew). Compare that cost to Canada, who
maintains their voter roll using automatic registration, with just 35 cents per active voter (Pew).
That is a significant cost savings.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arguably, any duplicitous activity surrounding our elections should be investigated and punished
accordingly. Indeed, most allegations of voter fraud turn out to be clerical errors, and individual
voter fraud is rare for two compelling reasons. First, individual fraud begets minimal votes, certainly
not enough to win an election. And second, it comes with a severe penalty (Brennan). Henceforth,
our country needs to find the balance between the possibility of fraudulent elections with the
probability of voter suppression and disenfranchisement. Automatic voter registration not only
mends the system, but also protects it by removing those that would most benefit from voter
registration fraud from the process ie. political parties and partisan third party

Coffee: Decaf or Caffeinated?
Drinking a cup of coffee has become an essential part of our morning routine. A study by
statisticbrain.com showed that 54% of Americans over the age of 18 drank an average cup size
being 9 ounces coffee every day. Coffee consumption has been dated to 10th century Ethiopia, and
since then it has evolved alongside the technology of each era. With the introduction of the espresso
machine during the French Revolution, more people started to create and mix their coffee into
different drinks, ranging from cappuccinos to cocktails. As we know, coffee naturally produces
caffeine. During the early 1900 s people wanted to enjoy their coffee flavored drinks but didn t
want the caffeine addiction that came with it. For this reason and motivated by the belief that
caffeine had poisoned his father, Ludwig Roselius invented the first commercially successful
decaffeination process in 1903. He patented the process by 1906; it was later discovered ... Show

It takes 3 to 4 years for a newly planted coffee tree to start producing its fruit. Once the berries are
collected the race begins. This process has to begin as soon as possible in order to prevent the
berries from spoiling and damaging the final taste of the coffee. There are two methods used to
process the coffee berries into coffee beans. The dry method or old method is used in many
countries where water resources are limited. This process reduces the moisture content of the
cherries to below 15%. The second method is the wet method, by using this process the beans have
to be sun dried until the moisture content is below 11%. After the moisture is reduced, we obtain a
green bean that after roasting and grinding, becomes what we find in the shelves of our

The Sonnets Of The Sonnet In The 17th Century
Prior to the 17th century, poetry was not only predominantly written by males, but also catered to
their ideas, interests, and views. During this time, women were limited in their expression and were
silenced to anything other than their household duties. Among this era, Elizabeth Barrett was born
in 1806 to a family of great wealth in Durham, England. Under a very traditional, strict household,
she was the eldest of 12 children. Her father, Edward, was very controlling and forbid all of his
daughters from marrying. Although, he did encourage highly encourage their studies. Elizabeth
began to explore beyond her traditional studies and took an interest in poetry, literature, and various
languages. At a very young age, she could read the works of many well known scholars.
Unfortunately, Elizabeth became very ill, which in turn affected not only her well being but over
overall mindset. Although her circumstances grew worse, she was able to spend more time on her
studies. Elizabeth later became a very influential poet, writing the Sonnets of the Portuguese,
challenging the traditional male dominance in writing through her new view, writing style, and the
concept of love.
With Elizabeth s gloomy outlook on life, and the overbearing traditional sense of love from her
father, she was certain that she would never find true love or even marry. However, the more she
began to write the more attention she received, particularly from one individual writer, Robert
Browning. Later the two

Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.) is by far the best productivity suite
currently available for the home and the workplace. It is the total package when it comes to
handling budgeting, payroll, inventory, etc. for businesses and home use. There are however free
alternatives which share a lot in common, so let s look at the pros and cons and decide for yourself
which is the better solution. Most choose Microsoft Officeas the best so let s compare. How does
Microsoft Office (i.e. 2013) and free open source alternatives (i.e. LibreOffice, OpenOffice)
compare? The predominant business offering, Office from Microsoft, inevitably yielded some
prominence when a reasonable open source contender, OpenOffice, developed and took after an
alternate open source choice, LibreOffice. How do these alternative open source programs fair in
comparison from the Microsoft Office? Bothe open source suites offer an instrument called Base
which is like that of Access from Microsoft, an apparatus called Draw (like Visio), and a
mathematical statement proofreader called Math, while Microsoft office incorporates the desktop

spreadsheet (excel), and presentation (powerpoint) instruments.
What are the benefits of using either open source or commercial products? Before we take a

Pacemaker Procedures Code Combinations
c. Pacemaker Procedures Code Combinations
CMS received a request to examine a list of ICD
10 PCS procedure code combinations that describe procedures involving pacemakers to determine
if some procedure code combinations were excluded from the ICD 10 MS DRG assignments for
MS DRGs 242, 243, and 244 (Permanent Cardiac Pacemaker Implant with MCC, with CC, and
without CC/MCC). CMS proposed to modify the ICD 10 MS DRG logic so that if certain ICD 10
PCS procedure codes describing procedures involving pacemaker devices listed is reported in
combination with one of the ICD 10 PCS procedure codes describing procedures involving certain
leads, the case would be assigned to MS DRGs 242, 243, and 244. CMS also examined their
GROUPER logic for MS DRGs 258 and 259 (Cardiac Pacemaker Device Replacement with and
without MCC, respectively). Assignments of cases to these MS DRGs also include qualifying ICD
10 PCS procedure code combinations describing procedures that involve the removal of pacemaker
devices and the insertion of new devices. They thought their logic was overly complex and felt a
more simplified approach would be to create a list of all ICD 10 PCS procedure codes describing
procedures involving cardiac pacemaker device insertions. After consideration of public comments,
CMS is finalizing their proposal to modify the MS DRG logic for MS DRGs 242, 243, and 244 to
establish that cases reporting one ICD 10 PCS code from the list of procedure codes describing

Greek Mythology Of Ancient Greece
Beautiful architecture, democracy, theatre, and the Olympic games; these are just a few of the
many wonders Ancient Greece had to offer. However, one of the most memorable creations of
Ancient Greece would have to be Greek mythology. These myths included hundreds of stories and
teachings that would have a lasting effect on Greek culture for centuries to come. When taking a
deeper look into some of these myths, one may notice gender and sexual behavior to be themes that
occur quite frequently. One also cannot help but notice that some social conditions in Ancient
Greece, such as the importance of beauty, the treatment of women, and beast like sexual behavior,
revolved around sex and gender. It is because of the use of gender and sexual... Show more content

Many of these myths regarding sexual behavior include sexual relations with some sort of animal.
An example of this is the story of Leda and the Swan. Myths and Legends of Ancient Greece and
Rome, a book by E.M. Berens, explains that Zeus came down in the form of a swan to consort
with Leda (Berens 34). The result of this encounter was the birth of Helen and Pollux. Leda was
one of the many mortal consorts of Zeus which gives an idea of how common this was in Greek
mythology. Another example of bestiality in Greek myths is the story of Pasiphae and the bull.
As told in Apollodorus, after disobeying the word of Poseidon by not sacrificing a bull he was
sent; Minos, ruler of Crete, was punished. However, his punishment was not cast upon him, rather
Pasiphae, his wife. Pasiphae became passionate for a bull and with help from Daedalus, an
architect, created a contraption to assist in achieving sex with this animal. The contraption was a
success and Pasiphae gave birth to Asterius, who is then named the Minotaur (Apollodorus. 3.1.4).
In this story bestiality is taken a step further. Not only does Pasiphae have intercourse with the
bull, but she goes as far as leaving her human form to do so. This beast like sexual behavior rippled
from these stories into the culture and society of Ancient Greece.
One way we see this ripple effect is the occurrence of incest in Ancient Greece. In Consubstantiality,
Incest, and Kinship in Ancient Greece, a

themselves rationalists, believing that one can arrive at truth by using reason, instead of religious

Modern Revival Of The Cornett
The cornetto is a wooden wind instrument widely used throughout Europe from the 15th through
the 17th centuries. It s also called the cornett, which is not to be confused with the trumpet like
instrument called the cornet. A hybrid between a woodwind (like the recorder) and a brass
instrument (like the trumpet), it was a long and slender tube, curved to one side, and had open finger
holes. Sound was produced by blowing into a cup shaped mouthpiece, like that of the trumpet. The
combination of the mouthpiece and finger holes results in difficulties of intonation (pitch) and
embouchure (mouth positions). Once mastered, it s extremely agile and has a range of dynamics
and expressions that span between brassy trumpet sounds to incredibly sweet... Show more content

According to the classification system of Hornbostel and Sachs, they are classified as trumpets
with finger holes . They flourished mainly in the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, but
began a decline in popularity from the second half of the seventeenth; from 1700 onwards their use
fell off dramatically, even though in some parts of Europe they persisted until the early 1800s.
Their modern revival dates only from the second half of the twentieth century; performers such as
Otto Steinkopf in Germany and Christopher Monk in England were among the first to play cornetts
in public in the 1950s.
Whereas most renaissance and baroque instruments have direct descendants or analogues (for
example, modern trombones and sackbuts, modern and baroque violins, etc.), this is not true for
cornetts; no mainstream modern instrument combines a lip vibrated mouthpiece with woodwind
style fingering, and this lack of any kind of continuous performing tradition necessitated a re
invention of both their playing technique and usage. Cornetts are usually considered to be difficult
to play well, but performance standards have improved dramatically over the last fifty years or so.
If ever an instrument belonged to the lower strata of society, the cornett did. They were the poor
white trash among musical instruments. Not only were they cheaply made, but they were noted for
their poverty of musical qualities. Constructed of wood and covered with

Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate customer care services and strategies in Kashim Ibrahim
Library, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. To achieve this objective, the researcher raised the
following research questions: What are the information resources available in Kashim Ibrahim
Library, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria? What are the information services offered in Kashim
Ibrahim Library? To what extent are the customers satisfied with the services rendered by Kashim
Ibrahim Library? Survey Research Method was adopted for the study and structured questionnaire
were used for data collection. 200 sets of questionnaire were issued to the respondents And the
study observed that familiarity of information products and services is triggered by the currency of
information resources for user needs. It is noted that currency of information brings stability and
use of information resources as it makes the library user friendly to the library customers. It was
then recommended that that the library management increases its budget in order to afford buying
what would stimulate the use of the library by its users.

Comparing Modern Day Society In The Giver And Modern Society
JonasВґs society and our society have nothing in common. Image living in a world where you
can t make your own choices. Jonas the protagonist in The Giver society tried to create a utopia
but led to a dystopia. Comparing modern day society to Jonas s society they have very little in
common. Jonas s society has No love, No Individuality , and they re controlled, While our society
has love, we celebrate Individual differences, and we have freedom. First of all Jonass society does
not allow them to love anyone or anything, while our society we can. For example, when Jonas
asked his father and mother if they loved him his mom said, ВЁYour father means that it s
become almost obsoleteВЁ, (lowry 160). For these reasons, you can tell that the word love is
not used in their community. While Jonas s society has no love, our society is full of it. In our
society we use the word love each day, towards our loved ones. We use the this word because, it s
a word to describe a number of different emotional experiences. Therefore you can see that Jonas s
society has no emotions towards anything or anyone, while in our society we do.... Show more

can tell that everyone s birthday is on the same day, and after age twelve age no longer matters.
On the contrary, We celebrate our Individual differences. For instance, in our society age matters,
and we celebrate our birthdays on the day we were born, which are on different days. Finally you

My initial interest in the Air Force Academy was sparked when I accompanied my parents to a

involved in the conference, decided to spend the week exploring the Colorado Springs area, and
after touring for several days, decided to go to what my father called Zoomie U . We took the

As a high school student, I am involved in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps
(AFJROTC). Due to high involvement and leadership potential, I was promoted to the Inspector
General position, which pertains to Corps discipline and standards. When I initially accepted the
position, I did not fully appreciate the effort or candor required, and it was not until several months
into the assignment that I began to. In the AFJROTC chain of command, the Corps Commander has
five people directly underneath him, namely; the Deputy Corps Commander, the Inspector General,
two squadron commanders, and the Command Chief Master Sergeant. Typically, the Inspector
General s concern is outside of these four, as they should be well behaved due to their high status.
However, one morning, one of the top five publically berated another top five member due to her
sexual orientation in the school hallway before class. The current military policy is don t ask, don t
tell ; however, the concern was not her sexual orientation, but the fact that a high ranking cadet
had shown a lack of awareness and political correctness in the situation. As the offense was public,
if I did nothing, it would be an obvious dereliction of duty. If I did do something, it could be seen

How Far Has the Importance of Nelson Mandela in the Ending...
How far has the importance of Nelson Mandela in the ending of apartheid been exaggerated? It can
be argued that the importance of Nelson Mandela in the ending of apartheid has been greatly
exaggerated. Apartheid ended due to a combination of long term and short term events. The ANC
represented the main opposition of apartheid while protests and rebellions caught the attention of
the world, international sanctions put pressure on the south African government and something had
to be done before their economy completely fell apart. De Klerk shocked the country when he took
the first step towards abolishing apartheid although, the spark of light and face of rebellion,

There was considerable labour unrest and strikes were common. There were also occasional
bomb attacks. On the 21st march, in Langa, Cape town. a mass march to langa police station
was organised. The plan was to surrender themselves guilty of not carrying their passes, and as
there were so many of them the police could not arrest them all. At this time an identical plan
was created in sharpville and turned into what would be known as the sharpville massacre. Due
to the event in sharpville the march was called off and a ban was placed on gatherings. However
later that day protestors gathered again. The police ordered the protesters to disperse and baton
charged them and the protestors retaliated with stones. Langa was very tense that night as angry
protestors barricaded the streets and looted policemen s homes. The death toll by the end of the
day in Langa was three, shot and killed by white policemen. The sharpville massacre and the langa
shootings had a great impact on apartheid, the damage done was costly and the government had
become ungovernable. Violence caused the protests to be a major factor in the end of apartheid
because it was so costly. The South African government was already in bad shape and could not

Lou Gehrig s Speech
Before 1939 most people knew Lou Gehrig as a 1st baseman for the New York Yankees
(Biography). He was an outstanding baseball player who fought through a lot of adversity during
his years playing in the MLB. His dedication and loyalty to the game is what made so many
people admire him. After finding out about his crippling disease, he gave a speech that is still
talked about to this day. In this heartfelt speech, Lou Gehrigexpressed his feelings about his recent
diagnosis that forced him to retire in order to show how thankful he was even with this tragedy.
Living in the shadow of Babe Ruthfor most of his career, Lou Gehrig had to go above and beyond
in order to prove himself to the baseball world. He even wore the number four because it was
right after Ruth s , showing that he was always behind him. Lou did not have the best life
growing up but that never stopped his will to succeed. His batting skills sparked an interest from
the Yankees who ended up signing Gehrig s first professional contract. At this time not many

Arguments Against Legalizing Marijuana
The legalization of marijuana and other controlled substances is a highly discussed and
controversial topic. Opponents have generally repeated arguments formed from long lasting
government propaganda in the past, and proponents have been working tirelessly to break down
those preconceptions. There are many arguments for and against the legalization of marijuana, and
in many ways it is the same discussion that led to the end of prohibition. Generally, the opposing
arguments are geared toward moral standards and focus on correlation as causation; the arguments
for legalization are generally based on university studies and case studies from other countries and
states that have already legalized marijuana. This essay will attempt to dispel the... Show more

products will be subject to all OSHA regulations, and all safety and standards practices in the
FMRA guidance manual. Any discrepancies found during annual inspections will incur a fine of
up to $25,000, based on annual sales. No person under 21 will be eligible to work in direct contact

The Hobbit Analysis
In the novel, The Hobbit, the author J.R.R. Tolkien, suggests when an individual pushes themselves
to explore risk taking, they take the opportunity to grow within themselves, and test the extent of
their newfound values, which result in the character fostering a stronger sense of self identity.
Accepting the opportunity to experience risk allows the individual to push themselves, despite the
possibility of danger towards oneself. In the Hobbit, the character Bilbo demonstrates risk taking
most clearly when he attempts to steal a troll s wallet after the dwarves ordered him to investigate
a strange light coming from within the forest (pg. 35). Bilbo concludes that he must prove himself
to the dwarves. To show his capability as a burglar,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Bilbo signifies risk taking when sparing Gollum, despite the unpredictable consequences that result
from his decisions. Lastly, Bilbo demonstrates pushing himself to take risks, despite the danger, is
during when Bilbo is chosen to survey inside the Lonely Mountain, Smaug s citadel (pg. 198 201).
Bilbo understands that he must uphold his position as a burglar, and be the first to enter the
Lonely Mountain, where Smaug inhabits. When Bilbo enters Smaug s lair, is a primary example
of Bilbo s risk taking, despite the prominent danger. Bilbo exploring Smaug s stronghold is the
climax of danger during The Hobbit. During this situation, Bilbo pushes himself greatly, to

surpasses his ability to take risks and discovers the extent of his risk taking abilities. He ultimately

we made two culture vials by first placing about 1.5 cm of flakes along with about four grains of
yeast into each vial. Then, with a glass pipette, a solution of water and 1% propionic acid is
added to the flakes and yeast to hydrate them. This will cause the flakes and yeast to turn blue,
and the solution is added until it is a consistent bright blue color where no isolated flakes are
visible (it is helpful to mash up the flakes and yeast). Once the necessary color is established, the
vials need to sit for about eight to ten hours. If whenever, at any time during the experiment, the
media cracks or has a faded color, the fly solution is to be added once more to rehydrate the

Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes
Don Quixote
The Ballet performance Don Quixote is based on the worldwide known novel Don Quixote de la
Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. It was originally performed by the Bolshoi Ballet of Moscow
and choreographed by Marius Petipa in the year of 1869 with the music of Ludwig Minkus. Now
days there are numerous Ballets performing it all over the world. The Miami City Ballet has
adopted this performance as part of their season content, giving the Spanish play a hint of Latin
American taste with several Hispanic dancers. The Ballet of Miami performed this Ballet in the
Fort Lauderdale Performing Art Center on Friday 21 of March, and presented the story of Don
Quixote in three main acts. In the first act is represented a public square in Seville where Basilio,
an impoverished barber young man, flirts with young Kitri who has been determined to marry a
Gamache. Gamache is a rich old toreador and is willing to pay Lorenzo, Kitri s father, for
marrying her. In this act Don Quixote and Sancho Panza arrive to the town and try to protect Kitri
from her father and Gamache. Finally they Kitri and Basilio escape from the town with Don
Quixote and Sancho, but Gamache and Lorenzo are going behind them. Following the first act
comes the second where the characters arrive into a gypsy encampment, the gypsies dance for
Kitri and Basilio to welcome them but when Gamache and Lorenzo arrive they confuse them and
help the lovers to escape again. Later on Don Quixote fins a windmill and

In the second creation story Gods interest was to find man a partner stating It is not good that the
man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner (Genesis 2:18). God attempted to
bring every animal in creation to the man in hopes that they would fit as a good partner but they
did not. The LORD than decided to make a creature for man to partner with stating then he took
one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from
the man he made into a woman (Genesis 2:21 22) Thus making man a fitting partner. The calling
of Abraham in 12:1 3 is shown as a bridge to link 2:4b 11 and the ancestral narrative of 12 50
because it explains the human problem and the divine solution. In Genesis 2:4b 11 God noticed
that as mankind began to reproduce they became more and more wicked because of their
selfishness and arrogance (Human Problem). God decided to wipe them out and start fresh
stating Now the Earth was corrupt in God s sight and the earth was filled with violence . Before
God ended flesh he saved Noah and his family because of their holiness by allowing them to

Go Set A Watchman By Harper Lee
Synopsis Harper Lee s novel, Go Set a Watchman, tells the story of the 26 year old Jean Louise
as she gains awareness of her father s flaws and becomes a more independent and flexible person.
During the novel s exposition, Jean Louise is on a train returning to her hometown, Maycomb, to
visit her aging father, Atticus. Upon returning home, Jean Louise quickly gets into an argument
with her aunt, Alexandra, over trivial matters. The two continue to bicker at each other until
Atticus intervenes. While Jean Louise finds it extremely frustrating that her aunt is never able to
understand her point of view, she finds comfort believing that Maycomb has remained the same
since she last left. The narrative hook occurs when Jean Louise is informed of the changes that
have taken place in Maycomb. A notable example is when Henry Clinton, Jean s old friend,
informs her that her family sold Finch s Landing to a club. Jean is surprised at this and expresses
her displeasure at her world changing by stating; I just don t like my world disturbed without some
warning... (Lee 75). Many of the changes don t hinder Jean, but she is still bothered by the fact that
her world is changing without her knowledge. During the rising action, Jean Louise discovers a
racist pamphlet owned by her father. She confronts Alexandra about it, and her aunt informs her
that Atticus had brought it home from the citizen s council meeting. Mortified, Jean Louise goes to

The committee...concludes that Risk = A Function of Threat, Vulnerability, and Consequences
(Risk = f(T,V,C)) is a philosophically suitable framework for breaking risk into its component
elements, (The National Academic Press, 2016). The article goes on to explain that the equation
provided is best suited for natural and man made hazards, and it isn t considered a new method.
However, in terms of making the equation fit threats that are under other categories, we learn that
the risk assessment has been under construction for many years. Risk = T Г—V Г—C is not an
adequate calculation tool for estimating risk in the terrorism domain, for which independence of
threats, vulnerabilities, and consequences does not typically hold and feedbacks exist, (The
National Academic Press, 2016). The Department of Homeland Security has shown in reviews that
it is feasible to make an estimate on the provisional anticipation distributions for the T, V, and C in
the equation. In other words, there is a probable way to determine what these areas will be in order
to formulate the risk that may be at hand. When one influence moves it will ultimately affect
another influence, so it also cannot be defined so

A Long Way Gone Analysis
Finding your purpose in life is easily the most meaningful day other than the day you were born. In
a Long Way Gone, Ishmael Beah seemed to find his calling at a young age. He found this calling

you have found that purpose.
Ishmael found his calling by being put through difficult situations and finding a way to create the
best out of it. It wasn t until refugees started passing through our town that we began to see that
it was actually taking place in our country. This is the start of Ishmael s difficulties which led

Environmental differentials cannot be considered in isolation. Their significance must be

impacts, environmental impacts, community impacts, compliance impacts, and business reputation.
(Center for Climate and Energy Solutions 85). However, in order for the race to the bottom to
occur four prerequisites must be met: homogeneity of products, transaction costs, sunk costs and
regulatory differentials. Homogeneity of products is depicted as goods and services that are same

point of interest that they can increase their opposition. The more homogeneous the product in any
industry the further we would expect to see competition (Spar and Yoffie 155). Another factor is
transaction costs, the more difficult and time consuming a relocation will be the less likely it will
occur. The stickiness is the resistance of a cost to change, in spite of changes in the more extensive

The Film Angela s Ashes
Angela s Ashes
The lead actor s life in the film Angela s Ashes can be explored through western and cultural
theories of human development.
Although the story is titled Angela s Ashes for me the focal character was Frankie (Francis)
McCourt. His complex and tumultuous life drove the story from beginning to end and although
his mother Angela was very important she was part and parcel of the bigger picture that was
Frankie McCourt s life story (Parker, 1999). For me the story resonates the resilience of young
people and their ability and inability to work their way through life. The amount of sadness,
instability and constant impoverishment would have broken most, but Frankie in his role as eldest
brother and son always seemed to find a way to cope and move forward.
Both Cultural and Western theorists would have had a field day with the reality of Frankie s life,
but in looking at the ideas of two specific theorists to endeavour to make sense of his journey I
chose cultural theorist Mason Durie and western theorist Albert Bandura.
Mason Durie s Te Whare Tapa Wha model looks at the individual as a whole piece that needs four
parts to function; taha wairua (spiritual), taha hinegaro (mental), taha tinana (physical), taha
whanau (family) (Durie, 1998). If one part is having difficulty, one or all of the other three parts will
take the strain in some way in order for the individual to function as normal as possible. In the story
Frankie s life was a melee of all four

Came First Church
P Which came first, the Church or the mission of the Church? How do you answer that question?
When I have asked people that question, they usually answer the Church. We experience the
Church before we understand mission. We go to church. We worship in church. We come to know
and grow in our faith through the Church. People point out that the Holy Spirit came upon the 120
followers of Christ in the Upper Room 10 days after Christ s Ascension. When the window opened
and Peter gave his first sermon, the Church began. What is often forgotten is what occurred 10 days
before Pentecost.
For that we read Matthew 28:19 20, the last words Jesus spoke to his followers: Go, therefore, and
make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you... Jesus gave his followers a
mission, which preceded the formation of the Church. The formation of the Church would evolve
later, as we read about in the Acts of the Apostles. The mission, given by Christ, preceded the
Church, and the Church emerged from that mission.
If we take a moment and return to that rocky mountaintop in Matthew 28:19 20. Feel the breeze.

in brain heart infusion (BHI) broth and plated on agar supplemented with 10% rabbit blood, of
which 106 (30.2%) were culture positive. Bartonella isolates were obtained from 23 (26%) straw
colored fruit bat (Eidolon helvum), 22 (21%) Egyptian fruit bats (Rousettus aegyptiacus), four
(44%) African sheath tailed bats (Coleura afra), seven (88%) rufous trident bats (Triaenops
persicus), one (25%) Commerson s leaf nosed bat (Hipposideros commersoni), and 49 (56%) bent
winged bats (Miniopterus spp) (Table 2). A PCR assay targeting a region of gltA generated

All visible ectoparasites were collected and bats were exsanguinated by cardiac puncture for
collection of whole blood samples. Blood specimens were screened for Bartonella by bacterial
culture on chocolate agar plates incubated at 35 В°C for up to 45 days. DNA was extracted from
bacterial colonies, blood, and pools of ectoparasites, and initially screened by real time PCR
assays targeting rpoB and the 16S 23S ITS. Conventional PCR amplifying gene regions from gltA
and rpoB was also performed on all diagnostic samples. All bat fly species were identified as
Cylcopodia greefii and the 148 captured bats were comprised of five species: straw colored fruit
bats (Eidolon helvum), epauletted fruit bats (Epomophorus spp.), dwarf epauletted fruit bats
(Micropteropus spp.), horseshoe bats (Rhinolophus spp.), and Nigerian free tailed bats
(Chaerephon nigeriae) (Table 2). When using qPCR on bat blood samples, 76 (51.4%)
positively amplified ITS and 28 (18.9%) amplified rpoB. Of the conventional PCR assays,
however, only 14 (9.5%) were positive for gltA and none for rpoB. Bartonella DNA was
detected in 10 (41.7%) and seven (29.2%) of the tested ectoparasites when targeting the 16S 23S
ITS and rpoB, respectively. With conventional PCR, both the gltA and rpoB assays detected seven
(29.2%) positives from the bat flies. Bartonella colonies were isolated from 23 (15.5%) bat blood
samples, with the following distribution: 12 (15.2%) Eidolon helvum, three (10%) Epomophorus
spp.,

Physics for Industries
INTRODUCTION
Physics attempts to describe the fundamental nature of the universe and how it works, always
striving for the simplest explanations common to the most diverse behaviour. For example, physics
explains why rainbows have colours, what keeps a satellite in orbit, and what atoms and nuclei are
made of. The goal of physics is to explain as many things as possible using as few laws as possible,
revealing nature s underlying simplicity and beauty. Physics has been applied in many industrial
fields, which include the air industry, construction industry, automobile industry, manufacturing
industry and many others. All these industries apply physics in one way or another. For example a
car that moves from one point to another has to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fluid moving over the top travels a greater distance than the moving just under the bottom of
the wing. Consequently, the fluid moving over the top must travel faster in order to conform to the
shape of the wing and still maintain the natural streamline. The shape of the wing also crowds the
streamlines together above the wing, just as in the case of a constructing pipe. The result is that of
the region immediately above the wing. Because the downward force on the top of the wing is less
than the upward force on the bottom, a net upward force, or lift, arises from the airflow. (Beyond
the airfoil the flowing air has a downward component of velocity. By Newton s third law, the
reaction force to the net downward force exerted on the air is the lift.) For lift to occur, a flow of
air is required relative to the wing. The lift occurs equally well for a wing moving through
stationary air or for moving past a stationary wing.
In general, as the flow of air past the wing increases, both the lift force and the drag force (the
resistance to forward motion) increases. According to Breithaipt (2000), aircraft wings are
designed so that pilots can change the wing shape during flight, producing greater lift for the
slower speeds of takeoff and landing and producing less drag at cruising extended

How Did Industrialization Affect The Lives Of Workers
Since the 19th century, industrialization has had positive and negative effects on the lives of
workers. Industrialization is defined as the large scale introduction of manufacturing, and other
productive economic activity into an area, society, country, etc. Industrialization changed the lives
of workers in the nation. The industrial revolutionwas a turning point in history as it gave new
insights to many new advancements. However, the improvements caused many negative
occurrences to happen and it was not until such came about that serious revision had to begin.
During the industrial revolution numerous technological, and cultural advancements took place.
These positive outcomes come at the cost of the health and safety of families... Show more content

The new revision to the class structure was positive because people started making more money.
This was because there were new laws that forced the owners of the factories to pay their workers
minimum wage. Although they were making a little bit more money there were many negative
effects on women and children. Women had gone from housewives to the hardworking woman who
honestly risked their lives in these horrible factories. The women were in danger more than men
because while working in the factory they had long skirts that could easily get stuck in the
machinery. They also got the same treatment and weren t allowed any breaks. Women were
punished as well if they got tired and weren t doing their work efficiently. The women were not
with their families as often because they had to work all day and by the time they got home it
was too late at night. Unfortunately, children work also as young of the age of six years old.
Children were paid unfairly and usually were made to do the dirty work. Working at these
disgusting factories many children as well as adults caught diseases and were malnourished.
In conclusion, the Industrial Revolution had a major impact on the society back then and had lead
to things we use today in the modern era. The industrial revolution was a time of progress. The
inventions being manufactured allowed people to prosper, while at the same time put people in
poverty. The chaos between

  • 2. Secretary Of Education Report Charts The Future Of United... Secretary of Education Recommendation Paper DaWayne D. Nettles Columbia College 2015 The Secretary of Education report charts the future of United States higher education and outlines various recommendations to improve it. As higher education evolves in unexpected ways, this new landscape demands innovation and flexibility from the institutions that serve the nation s learners. The recommendations mentioned include assess, cost and affordability, financial aid, learning, transparency and accountability, and finally innovation. One of the most significant recommendations that needs to definitely be address is the issue of cost and affordability of higher education. The way higher education is being financed is becoming increasingly dysfunctional. State appropriations are declining; educational cost is rising; and cost per student is increasing faster than inflation or family income. Affordability is directly affected by a financing system that provides limited incentives for colleges and universities to take aggressive steps to improve institutional efficiency and productivity. (2006) test a pairs trading strategy over 1962 to 2002 and provide valuable insights into the development of the risk and return characteristics over time. It is perhaps the most cited paper on pairs trading and uses distance method. They form pairs over a twelve month period based on minimizing the squared deviations between normalized price series of the two securities. They back test a simple trading algorithm with daily data in the period 1962 2002 using S P 500 constituents and find average annualised returns of up to 11% for portfolios of pairs. Although the proposed strategy is profitable the authors note that returns have declined in recent years, possible due to increased competition among hedge funds and/or a reduction in the importance of an underlying common factor that drives the returns in a pairs trading strategy. A thorough analysis of the risk characteristics shows that returns have a high risk adjusted alpha and an insignificant exposure to sources of systematic risk. ... An example of this is the story of Leda and the Swan. Myths and Legends of Ancient Greece and Rome, a book by E.M. Leda was one of the many mortal consorts of Zeus which gives an idea of how common this was in Greek mythology. Another example of bestiality in Greek myths is the story of Pasiphae and the bull. As told in Apollodorus, after disobeying the word of Poseidon by not sacrificing a bull he was sent; Minos, ruler of Crete, was punished. However, his punishment was not cast upon him, rather Pasiphae, his wife. Pasiphae became passionate for a bull and with help from Daedalus, an architect, created a contraption to assist in achieving sex with this animal. The contraption was a success and Pasiphae gave birth to Asterius, who is then named the Minotaur (Apollodorus. 3.1.4). In this story bestiality is taken a step further. Not only does Pasiphae have intercourse with the bull, but she goes as far as leaving her human form to do so. This beast like sexual behavior rippled from these stories into the culture and society of Ancient Greece. One way we see this ripple effect is the occurrence of incest in Ancient Greece. Their modern revival dates only from the second half of the twentieth century; performers such as Otto Steinkopf in Germany and Christopher Monk in England were among the first to play cornetts in public in the 1950s. Whereas most renaissance and baroque instruments have direct descendants or analogues (for example, modern trombones and sackbuts, modern and baroque violins, etc.), this is not true for cornetts; no mainstream modern instrument combines a lip vibrated mouthpiece with woodwind style fingering, and this lack of any kind of continuous performing tradition necessitated a re invention of both their playing technique and usage. First of all Jonass society does not allow them to love anyone or anything, while our society we can. For example, when Jonas asked his father and mother if they loved him his mom said, ВЁYour father means that it s become almost obsoleteВЁ, (lowry 160). For these reasons, you can tell that the word love is not used in their community. While Jonas s society has no love, our society is full of it. In our society we use the word love each day, towards our loved ones. We use the this word because, it s a word to describe a number of different emotional experiences. Due to high involvement and leadership potential, I was promoted to the Inspector General position, which pertains to Corps discipline and standards. When I initially accepted the position, I did not fully appreciate the effort or candor required, and it was not until several months into the assignment that I began to. In the AFJROTC chain of command, the Corps Commander has five people directly underneath him, namely; the Deputy Corps Commander, the Inspector General, two squadron commanders, and the Command Chief Master Sergeant. Typically, the Inspector General s concern is outside of these four, as they should be well behaved due to their high status. However, one morning, one of the top five publically berated another top five member due to her sexual orientation in the school hallway before class. The current military policy is don t ask, don t tell ; however, the concern was not her sexual orientation, but the fact that a high ranking cadet had shown a lack of awareness and political correctness in the situation. It can be argued that the importance of Nelson Mandela in the ending of apartheid has been greatly exaggerated. Apartheid ended due to a combination of long term and short term events. The ANC represented the main opposition of apartheid while protests and rebellions caught the attention of the world, international sanctions put pressure on the south African government and something had to be done before their economy completely fell apart. Tolkien, suggests when an individual pushes themselves to explore risk taking, they take the opportunity to grow within themselves, and test the extent of their newfound values, which result in the character fostering a stronger sense of self identity. Accepting the opportunity to experience risk allows the individual to push themselves, despite the possibility of danger towards oneself. In the Hobbit, the character Bilbo demonstrates risk taking most clearly when he attempts to steal a troll s wallet after the dwarves ordered him to investigate a strange light coming from within the forest (pg. 35). It was originally performed by the Bolshoi Ballet of Moscow and choreographed by Marius Petipa in the year of 1869 with the music of Ludwig Minkus. Now days there are numerous Ballets performing it all over the world. The Miami City Ballet has adopted this performance as part of their season content, giving the Spanish play a hint of Latin American taste with several Hispanic dancers. The Ballet of Miami performed this Ballet in the Fort Lauderdale Performing Art Center on Friday 21 of March, and presented the story of Don Quixote in three main acts. In the first act is represented a public square in Seville where Basilio, an impoverished barber young man, flirts with young Kitri who has been determined to marry a Gamache. During the novel s exposition, Jean Louise is on a train returning to her hometown, Maycomb, to visit her aging father, Atticus. Upon returning home, Jean Louise quickly gets into an argument with her aunt, Alexandra, over trivial matters. The two continue to bicker at each other until Atticus intervenes. While Jean Louise finds it extremely frustrating that her aunt is never able to understand her point of view, she finds comfort believing that Maycomb has remained the same since she last left. The narrative hook occurs when Jean Louise is informed of the changes that have taken place in Maycomb. A notable example is when Henry Clinton, Jean s old friend, informs her that her family sold Finch s Landing to a club. Jean is surprised at this and expresses her displeasure at her world changing by stating; I just don t like my world disturbed without some warning... (Lee 75). The amount of sadness, instability and constant impoverishment would have broken most, but Frankie in his role as eldest brother and son always seemed to find a way to cope and move forward. Both Cultural and Western theorists would have had a field day with the reality of Frankie s life, but in looking at the ideas of two specific theorists to endeavour to make sense of his journey I chose cultural theorist Mason Durie and western theorist Albert Bandura. We experience the Church before we understand mission. We go to church. We worship in church. We come to know and grow in our faith through the Church. People point out that the Holy Spirit came upon the 120 followers of Christ in the Upper Room 10 days after Christ s Ascension. When the window opened and Peter gave his first sermon, the Church began. What is often forgotten is what occurred 10 days before Pentecost. The goal of physics is to explain as many things as possible using as few laws as possible, revealing nature s underlying simplicity and beauty. The fluid moving over the top travels a greater distance than the moving just under the bottom of the wing. Consequently, the fluid moving over the top must travel faster in order to conform to the shape of the wing and still maintain the natural streamline. The shape of the wing also crowds the streamlines together above the wing, just as in the case of a constructing pipe. The result is that of the region immediately above the wing. Because the downward force on the top of the wing is less than the upward force on the bottom, a net upward force, or lift, arises from the airflow. (Beyond the airfoil the flowing air has a downward component of velocity. By Newton s third law, the reaction force to the net downward force exerted on the air is the lift.) For lift to occur, a flow of air is required relative to the wing. The lift occurs equally well for a wing moving through stationary air or for moving past a stationary wing. In general, as the flow of air past the wing increases, both the lift force and the drag force (the resistance to forward motion) increases.
