The Commission for Accreditation for Physical Therapy Education Curriculum as Viewed Through
the Lens of Social Meliorism Curricula can be viewed from different perspectives in order to
critically evaluate how they might best influence students, institutions, and faculty. The purpose of
this paper is to evaluate the Commission on Accreditation for Physical Therapy Education

CAPTE was established in 1977 by the American Physical Therapy Association(APTA), and has
served as the sole accrediting agency for physical therapist and physical therapist assistant
programs (http://www.capteonline.org/WhatWeDo/ , retrieved 12/10/2014). While accreditation is
a voluntary process for programs, graduation from a PT or PTA program that meets the
accreditation standards of CAPTE or is substantially equivalent is required for students to be able
to be eligible to take the PT national licensure exam. (NPTE Candidate Handbook. General
Information, retrieved 12/10/2014).
In its work as an accrediting body, CAPTE has established programmatic standards and criteria for
evaluation of Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant programs. These standards are
influenced by the profession in defining the nature of contemporary practice and determining
practice expectations and the demands that are placed on graduates (CAPTE Evaluative Criteria, p.
i, 2014). CAPTE references five documents in the derivation of these standards: the Guide to
Physical Therapist Practice, which describes patient/client management, and the Normative Model
of Physical Therapist Professional Education, which focuses on the prerogatives, perspectives,
beliefs, and values relative to PT education, the APTA Code of Ethics, the Guide for Professional

A Study On The Birth Of Weight Of 4.2kgs I Essay
With knowledge of her history and awareness of her current pregnancy plotting on the 60th
centile and estimated birth weight of 4.2kgs I assured I tried to reassure and normalise as best to
my abilities. I did not engage in conversations between the midwife who was doubting her ability
to birth her second baby because of the increased difference in weight, instead I focused on
ensuring I was not developing opinions or expectations but assuring I was prepared to anticipate
any complications because of her history. I was always aware of the language I used with Lousie
and ensured I did not make passing comments such as he is big baby that may hold a negative
connotations and elicit anxiety or fares towards her birth. I feel that is unprofessional and can
easily destroy the mutual trust I was developing with Lousie. This was particularly difficult when
doing her fundal height measurements as she was measuring above her gestation beyond the
normal predicaments. Regardless I communicated my findings supported by my LMC midwives
in a professional manner explaining how she was plotting within her normal growth curve by her
scans and that her baby was a perfect size for her. I was being truthful and honest in recognition
of the trust I needed to form with her and in acknowledgement of her right to be fully informed.
Lousie was an induction at 41weeks and three days, her birth was identical to her first resulting in
a ventouse delivery after slow progression in her second

Sunset; the last rays of today streak out across the dark ocean. The old man pulls his wife closer,
hands weathered, eyes closed. He is content. But there is more than meets the eye in this scene.
Much more. Signals pulse through the neurons in the man s brain: a structured dance. His
thoughts, his actions, and his feelings are all a product of the complex processes within his brain.
Optimized by billions of years of evolution and influenced by decades of experience and thought,
the man s brain thinks. Alone among all animals, he can appreciate the beauty of the sunset and the
fullness of his life.Until now, this distinction between human and nonhuman has been clear. Our

For example, some authors, including philosopher Nick Bostrom, have envisioned a future where
human brains can be uploaded into a computer (Bostrom). Clearly, besides trivial physical
properties, such an entity does not lose any of the elements that make us human, but it is
nevertheless different. If we wish to maintain consistent in emphasizing thoughts and emotions,
such a being would still be human. This scenario will necessitate an expansion in what most people
think of when they think of humanity. Moreover, such an intelligence could then began to improve
itself, becoming better and better at doing so, resulting in a superintelligence (Bostrom). This
could propel us into what Bostrom calls the posthuman era, a society that meets one of a few
conditions, including a [p]opulation greater than 1 trillion persons [or a] life expectancy greater
than 500 years (Bostrom). These scenarios may not be as far fetched as they seem; if any one of
them happens, it will be difficult to keep on describing humans in the context of anything but our
shared history. On a similar note, one can look to Eliezer Yudkowsky, an artificial intelligence
researcher and one of a growing number of transhumanists. He defines the philosophy of
transhumanism as the logical extension of humanism: it does not make sense to value life up to a

Moral Panics Essay
Question #1 Moral panics is something that the society will always experience. From back in
history to now, there are different cases of moral panics. Most of these panics affect and target
individuals on a daily basis. Rainbow parties, teen sex bracelets, and even bullying has become a
huge moral panic for the society now. Bullyinghave always existed, however, the method and
seriousness of bullying has increased dramatically over time. Cyberbullying is one of the most
troubling and disruptive crimes of our society now. The advancement of technology has
definitely enforced a huge impact on cyberbullying. The internet and its easy access has made it
exceptionally easy to target people, especially juveniles, throughout the day at any given time.
Many popular social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is where a lot of
bullying happens to take place. I definitely understand why this has become such an enormous
moral panic because of the negative influences it has on young people or juveniles. The internet
makes it apparent and easy to judge others by the way someone looks, dress, or act. Even though
this is a country of freedom, liberty, and equality, people still are inclined to judge others and
critique them harshly. This cause juveniles to develop a mere sense of conscience, low self esteem,
and a high need for approval or acceptance. First, what is the actual definition of bullying?
Cyberbullying involves bullying

Heartbreak Research Paper
Heartbreak can physically and emotionally hurt someone. I believe 100 percent that a broken heart
and emotional pain can negatively affect physical health, says Courtney Nesbitt, L.C.S.W.
Research has shown that when someone has been through a breakup they have similar brain
activity as when they are shown a picture of a loved one. Researchers concluded that rejection,
emotional and physical pain are all processed in the same places of the brain. When both the
parasympathetic system (part of the nervous system) and the sympathetic nervous system are both
turned on, you can experience chest pains and discomfort, says Meghan Laslocky.
There can be some positive effects of heartbreak like strength stems from resilience, which is

Romanticism In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
INTRO: While the Age of Enlightenment emphasized reason and knowledge, the following literary
period from 1800 to 1850 known as Romanticism was characterized by creativity, emotion and
relationships. Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein, written in 1818, exemplifies this style of literature
in its use of imagery, tone and symbolism. By implementing a writing technique known as frame
narrative, a perspective is presented as a story within a story within another story, etc. In this
particular book, the reader is introduced to an explorer named Robert Walton, whose letters begin as
first person narration, which transition into the viewpoints of the other main characters in
Frankenstein. On his voyage to the North Pole, Walton writes letters to his sister in England that
explain his encounter with a scientist named Victor Frankenstein, who in turn tells his story of how
he created a monster. Frankenstein s creation then narrates and defends the life unwillingly thrust
upon him. Finally, a group known as the cottagers offer a different perspective of the entire matter,
which primarily focuses on the creation s interactions with society.

from grace is apparently mild compared to Frankenstein s monster s self described fallen angel,
which is essentially the adversary and antagonist of its creator. The same holds true for the Shelley

With many families in the world starving and/ or dealing with diseases they don t know how to
cure, but with money provided they would be able to get it under control at least a start. Then
we have the people in the states who are more worried about the fact that they don t have the
newest iPhone, which note, is not a life or death necessity. How are we to justify the fact that we
are able to spend all the money we have on unnecessary items and the people in North Korean or
parts in Africa can barely or many not even be able to afford food for the day to survive. As Peter

ask why they are thousands of miles away why are we to give our money to them? In that case
as singer has noted distance should not matter in the sense of being able to help starving kids.
When you ask yourself whether you re in the bind of being able to help starving kids or buying
the newest up to date iPhone the first answer would be to donate, but many people see the relief
organizations as a scam and wonder if they were to donate if the money would really go to the

What Does The Fire Symbolize Miss Havisham
The novel, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, uses the symbolism of fire during the incident
at Miss Havisham s home. This symbolism represented many things, mainly Miss Havisham s
personality and her life.
Charles Dickens included this incident of the fire at Miss Havisham s house in his novel, Great
Expectations, to symbolize the personality of Miss Havisham. Although a fire should warm a
room, the fire in her house seems to keep the house cold. At first Pip notices that there are no fires
there. They are extinguished representing that the is no life there. The house, like Miss Havisham
are wasting away.
The fact that the fire keeps the rooms cold represents her personality. She is a cold and heartless

Spirituality And Religiosity
While consensus among researchers on the definition of spirituality and religiosity is lacking, what
it means to be spiritual or religious and what constitutes a spiritual person in the literature is still
very highly researched (Stranahan, 2008). Many definitions of religiosity and spirituality include
religious service attendance, some sort of meaning and purpose in life, personal strength to cope
with difficulties, and believing in a higher being (Stranahan, 2008). Older adults tend to have
stronger faith and greater spirituality than younger populations (Moberg, 2005). This difference in
spirituality between younger populations and older adults is possibly tied to the deepening of
spiritual interests and concern during the later years (Moberg, 2005, p. 15). Older adults tend to
become more religious, or turn to religionmore as they age, instead of maintaining a high level of
religiosity throughout their lives (Moberg, 2005). Spirituality and religiosity are very important to
the aging process due to the connection observed in many studies between spiritual health and
physical and mental health and well being, with religion having protective health effects. Much
research has been conducted on the association between religion and spirituality and physical and
mental health outcomes, especially among older adults. This paper will summarize the recent
findings related to religion and spirituality and health in older adults, including a discussion on the

Reality Television Essay
Reality Television
When Philo T. Farnsworth invented the electric television, he probably did not think that it would
be used to show people eating bugs, finding husbands based on votes of viewers, or living on
deserted islands. But that is exactly what you can see any given night on television now. This
newest form of television programming fad is the reality television genre. Reality television is now
on every station, every night, everywhere. The web page Fact Monster credits the beginning of
reality TV as beginning around 2000 when a little reality game show called Who wants to be a

most popular television genre in years. Some say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not actual reality, because actual reality is boring, and in actual reality people aren t eating weird
stuff or living on desert islands. But these shows are a form of reality suitable to make fairly
interesting TV.
When thinking about reality TV and its rise to popularity there are two shows that come to
mind. The first is the creative Survivor. Survivor is an hour long show that came on in 2000 on
Thursday nights at 9:00 PM on CBS and quickly became one of the networks highest rated
shows. Hosted by Jeff Provst, the smug, good looking yet rugged host, the gimmick of Survivor
is that 20 people are deserted in the wild in two groups that they call tribes and are forced to
build shelter, provide food for themselves and then every week participate in a challenge to win
immunity. Those who do not win immunity are then open to be voted off by the tribe. The final
person to not get voted off receives 1 million dollars and fifteen minutes of fame.
Another show that helped cement the reality TV genre is NBC s Fear Factor, a usually half hour
show which shows on any night where a push in the adult 18 49 demographic is needed. Fear
Factor is the show that comes to mind when thinking of reality TV and eating. Joe Rogan hosts the

Throughout Martin Scorsese s nearly 50 year long career, he has come to be known as a master of
his craft, having directed countless films hailed as modern day masterpieces. As with any cinematic
auteur, his films are often grouped together and boiled down to a group of recurring elements, both

The plot concerns a young lawyer named Newland Archer, played by Daniel Day Lewis, who
falls in love with divorcee Ellen Olenska, played by Michelle Pfeiffer. Archer also happens to be
engaged to Olenska s cousin May Welland, played by Winona Ryder. Given Scorsese s involvement
with the project, one might assume the film is a revisionist take on Wharton s novel, similar to his
take on MGM musicals with New York, New York, or at the very least feature instances of
amped up language, sexuality, or violence. But his Age of Innocence is as straightforward as
period romances get, resulting in a lush drama where no blood is shed, hell is uttered once, and
cigars are favored over cocaine. At first glance, it d even be hard to watch the film and believe
that Scorsese had directed it. The film was a minor box office failure, just failing to recoup its
$34 million budget with only $32.3 million at the box office. Critically, the film received many
positive notices, with The New York Times writing that Scorsese had made a gorgeously
uncharacteristic Scorsese film... the work of one of America s handful of master craftsmen and
Time Out praising the way he employs all the tools of his trade to bring his characters and
situations vividly to life. Bearing a PG rating for thematic elements and some mild language, The
Age of Innocence is seemingly no different in it s approach to the genre than countless other
period dramas of the day, such as The English Patient (Anthony Minghella, 1996), Sense
Sensibility (Ang Lee, 1996), or The Remains of the Day (James Ivory, 1993). But watching the
film with an understanding of Scorsese s general filmmaking tendencies, it s easy to understand
why he would be drawn to this particular adaptation for his first foray into the genre. Though not as

The Pros And Cons Of Vocational Education In High Schools
Worldwide, education, specifically in high schools, varies depending on the location. Some schools
focus on a vocational education, which helps students learn in relation to a particular career, while
others may focus on liberal arts, which emphasizes the importance of core subjects. Each has their
own unique pros and cons, but a vocational educationproves to be more effective in preparing
students for the future, providing them with more opportunities, hands on experiences, and a
direct path to the career of their choice. Vocational education is generally provided in stand alone
schools or as additional classes in liberal arts schools. The vocations that students are prepared for
may include medicine, law, nursing, mechanics, and even engineering or business. One major
benefit of this early exposure to a wide range of professions may be that students have a better idea
as to what career may be right for them in the future, rather than not have any idea by the time
collegerolls around. This is becoming increasingly important, as in many public schools around the
countries, which typically provide a liberal arts education, vocational classes are being cut back
due to budget cuts. By having an idea of what they want to do, students can begin their studies
while still in high school, and once in college, know what courses to take that will contribute
directly to their major. Vocational programs also help to express and expand ideas in relation to
real world topics. (Anyon,

Nagel s Cosmological Argument For The Existence Of God
The actuality of a divine being the cause of our existence is a topic that has been debated by
philosophers for centuries. To this day there is no clear answer as both sides of the argument give
reasons to refute the opposing side s arguments. Ernest Nagel is a well known philosopher as he is
recognized for his works against theism and for supporting atheism in his literary works. In Nagel s
A Defense Of Atheism he criticizes the theistic arguments that claim a godis overseeing our world.
The ontological, cosmological and teleological arguments are known as the classical arguments for
theism. Nagel swiftly pokes many holes in these arguments and runs them to the ground. Besides
attacking the flaws in these arguments, Nagel also brings up... Show more content on

Out of the three arguments, these two are the weakest for simple logic can quickly subside them.
Nagel supplies this logic for diminishing these arguments in his analysis of both arguments. He first
attacks the cosmological argument which claims that only God could be the cause of the existence
of earth and that God is self caused. However, Nagel claims that earth could have easily existed
forever and that if God is self caused than the earth itself just as easily can be self caused also as
he states but if God can be self caused, why cannot the world itself be self caused? (A Defense of
Atheism 87). Secondly, Nagel belittles the ontological argument which claims that God must exist
because he is perfect and that anything perfect must exist by definition. Which sounds vague and
Nagel points this out by claiming that the existence of an object makes no difference by how we
formulate them. The well known philosopher Immanuel Kant also had a great appeal by claiming
that ...it is just a confusion to say that existence is an attribute, and that though the word existence
may occur as the grammatical predicate in a sentence, no attribute is being predicated of a thing
when we say that the thing exists or has existence. (A Defense of Atheism 88) Excluding Nagel
and Kant s logical explanations against these arguments, I also have my doubts as these two
arguments seem to take an ignorant stance. It seems as if the creators of these arguments are
stubborn children who believe God has to exist because there is no other possible explanation.
However Modern day technology and science also decimates these two arguments as there is new
scientific evidence that the earth has been in existence millions of years before the bible. However,
the third argument known as the teleological argument makes much more logical sense and relies
on empirical evidence which gives it

The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) now known as the Baldrige National

A action plan has to take place even with goals and objectives clearly defined by both

Richard Wilbur s Boy At The Window
War has changed many people s lives, including Richard Wilbur. Richard is a poet who was in
the U.S. army in World War II. According to the Poetry Foundation, the war influenced his
poetry. He was born in 1912 in New York City and won the Pulitzer Prize two times and won
many other awards, such as the Wallace Stevens award. One poem Richard Wilbur wrote was
Boy at the Window . This poem is about a boy looking out a window at a snowman, but the
young boy does not quite understand why the snowman has to suffer out in the cold. The theme
of the poem is as one grows older they will start to understand the world more. This relates to
Richard s experience in the war. Richard was young when he went into the war and he had many
fears that he could not understand before going into the war. In the poem, Boy at the Window , by
Richard Wilbur, he shows a central idea of misunderstanding which shows the theme of as one

in the poem.
In the poem, Boy at the Window , the first way that the theme of as one grows older they will start

of the poem helped to show is by the quote in line 1, Seeing the snowman standing all alone

Black Men In The Scottsboro Boys
The communist party was all for supporting black people having a self government and self
determination even though some weren t in favor of this cause. Also due to the rise of the
communist party there was an increase in political effort to protect the lives of African
Americans. The communist party was able to help save the lives of nine young black men from
execution. This case was known as the Scottsboro Boys ; in Alabama there were nine African
American teenagers that were arrested in 1931 for supposably involved in raping two white
women on a train. The teenagers were accused, convicted and were soon to face the death
penalty. Luckily for them the many African Americans from the communist party supported

they understood what it felt like for their own husbands and children getting accused of raping

Venture to Find Success
Nothing ventured nothing gained is one of the most famous lessons learned by many successful
people. Laura Patrick, the author of 850 Magazine, wrote: There is no doubt that the number of

me stable revenue even when confronted with challenges. Business is typically the leading way
for people who start up their career to gain wealth. Therefore, I would like to be a businessman

residential landscaping, park projects, recreational facilities, airports, hospitals. What I need to
be successful in my career is experience, education, and a business plan. To begin a business, the
business plan is essential to insure that my business can bring profit and minimize the risks of the

Essay on Components of a Good Ghost Story
Components of a Good Ghost Story
A good mystery novel needs to be based on life in the past similar to the Victorian era for the
reason that of industrialisation and it was an era of when inventors started experimenting and
creating new and bizarre ideas. In the Victorian era many stories were based around the gothical
theme. The story signalman is a ghost story, it was written in 1866 by Charles Dickens. Another
example of a gothic story is the red room , which is also a ghost story or contains beings of the
spiritual world written by H.G Wells in 1896. Both of these novels were written at the end of the
gothic period. I will now find the similarities of both novels.

Dickens has set his story at a railway line as trains were new at the time and it was doubtable that

The story of redroom argues about ghosts.
Ay and eight and twenty years I have lived here and never seen a ghost .
This keeps the reader interested to say who is telling the truth and wondering.
In the signalman the story continues as an ordinary story. Later in the story the signalman shares

Anxiety in Teens Essay
An individual that has strives to live with anxiety or an anxiety disorder faces many struggles
daily because of the feelings the conditions stimulate. There are an infinite amount of symptoms,
causes, and consequences, but an equal amount of treatment options and ways to handle anxiety.
Anxiety disorders can be viewed as general or extremely specific, but all in all each one affects
the life of a person living with one or knowing someone who struggles with it. In regards to
teenagers specifically, between three and five percent children and adolescents in the United States

In teens, many symptoms primarily include wariness, nervousness, muscle tension or cramps, and
stomach or headaches (AACAP). Having an anxiety disorder brings about exposure to these
symptoms daily, all of which are unfavorable.
There are many common types and conditions of anxiety disorders that can be diagnosed based on
the symptoms present. The four most prevalent anxiety disorders among teenagers include social
anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and post traumatic stress
disorder; many other forms of anxiety exist such as phobias, and panic attacks (Foa and
Andrews 3). In a teens life, having anxieties such as social and panic attacks can form habitual
actions such as not going anywhere or doing specific things. Social anxiety particularly begins
between late childhood and early teens (Foa and Andrews 14). With this anxiety, fear is
provoked when thinking about or interacting in a social setting or situation. This discomfort can
be specific or general to a certain idea or situation (Foa and Andrews 13). Most types of anxiety
disorders can coordinate to another. Like social anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder can be
directed principally a situations or nothing in particular (Foa and Andrews 14). It can be
challenging for teens to explain the source of their anguish especially if they are not diagnosed with
an anxiety disorder. Generalized anxiety disorder is the most commonly

The Pros And Cons Of Natural Evils
Good can come from evil
Evil is the extreme moral wickedness that results in the suffering of others. This can come in two
forms, physical evils and moral evils. Good is moral right that strengthens and brings joy to
people. One of the greatest evils of humanity was killing Jesus Christ the Son of God. However, this
resulted in one of the greatest goods in our world. Good Friday occurring meant that the world
could be saved from death. No matter the degree, I believe that all evil can result in some good.
Natural evils can result in solidarity amongst communities and love and support to those affected. A
natural evil is a tremendous suffering that wasn t inflicted by humans and was due to the nature of
our world. These include events such as natural disasters like Typhoon Haiyan and Ash Wednesday
Bushfires. This type of evil brings traumatic effects and devastate communities through loss of lives
and destruction. Typhoon Haiyan occurred in 2013 and caused a devastating 6,340 fatalities. The
Ash Wednesday Bushfires took place in 1983 causing 75 deaths and injuring thousands more.
After the terror of Typhoon Haiyan and Ash Wednesday, countless people around the globe shared
their love, aid and support to the affected. This is evident through volunteers helping relief activities
through programs like Caritas. People around the globe also donated resources. I personally
experienced the compassion given to the Philippines from Typhoon Haiyan. My parish and school

in the affluent Chicago suburb of Oak Park, Illinois, on July 21, 1899. His father was a doctor;
his mother, a musician. As a young man, he was interested in writing; he wrote for and edited
his high school s newspaper, as well as the high school yearbook. Upon graduating from Oak Park
and River Forest High School in 1917, he worked for the Kansas City Star newspaper briefly, but

The Article, Stereotypical Constructions Of The Maori ...
The article, Stereotypical Constructions of the Maori Race in the Media, written by Melanie Wall
(1997), can be summarised as an article focusing on the effect the colonisation of New Zealand
had on the Maori as a population. It mainly focuses on the way Maori have been imagined as the
stereotypical Black Other . It speaks of the perpetuation and (re)formation of Maori identities,
including the way Maori are constrained by their Black Other stereotype within New Zealand. The
article talks about representations of race through identity images , the effect of the Maori
Renaissance (in particular its effect on identity formations), and Maori Stereotypes in the Media.
In the beginning of the article, Wall talks about the categorisations of racialised discourse. She
mentions different justifications of stereotypes, and how they relate to what is referred to as the
construction of the new world . Wall believes that as well as the traditional old racisms, there is
also a new racism which is spoken about by Barker in 1981. She uses the example of Maori as the
unemployable/unemployed, which has became one of the main stereotypes, that construct the
identity of specific Maori.
Wall speaks about four main Maori stereotypes within the Media; The Comic Other, The Primitive
Natural Athlete, The Radical Political Activist, and The Quintessential Maori. These are shown in
fairly modern contexts as well as earlier contexts.

The Female Body By Margaret Atwood
Existence of Serving and Survival in The Female Body by Margaret Atwood
Even though humans all have the same label, preferential treatment resides with the males. This
is especially true in The Female Body by Margaret Atwood. Considering the society s perception
of how interaction between races and genders should be, white males are at the top of the social
hierarchy. In this hierarchy, the white are above the coloured and the men are above the females.
Hence, women are given selective and limiting freedom and yet men are also limited by society to
the point that most men do not realise they have limitations placed upon them. Nevertheless men
and women do not live their lives, they survive and yet men seem to enjoy life. Therefore women
are marionettes, men are puppets and society is the puppeteer.
There s a wide range (38) of marionettes and to the men in society; they must have one. A wife
that men will select from many; like selecting an item from the vast versions of the same product.
Women are a commodity that all men eligible for marriage will receive. Hence, women are
degraded to as if it were flesh and blood (38); they are not even considered as humans, but a topic
(38) that has the appearance of a human. Atwood also mentions that female bodies need
maintenance like a car would; a woman that is not human and a female that wants to be more than
surviving. Women are objectified even further by pleasure not being a requirement. Indicating that
women are

The Internet And The Internet
The internet has made up many aspects of our lives. Sometimes these aspects aren t good, and
sometimes they aren t bad. Everytime you turn on your computer what s the first thing that you
open up? The majority of the time the internet browser is the very first thing you open up. Whether
it s to listen to music, watch a movie, or to online shop. Internetis an everyday part of our lives, for
college students it is essential to look at our grades. For teachers it is how they post our grades and
the majority of our homework assignments.
If someone asked you with all the syfy movies you watch how many of them are robot based
movies. Your response would most likely be a lot of them. In the worldtoday it s a real fear that not
just Americans but humans have that technology will take over the world. With every
technological advance we take there is always a group of people looking for ways to get through
back doors. Back doors lead to the dark web which is where people deal illegal drugs, sell body
parts and people. This is a prime example of that people repeat themselves time and time again
through the generations. In more recent years we have seen that in the automobile industry the jobs
became more automated the workers went on strike. They didn t show up to work and refused to
do so for days. This shows that even though we have been through a situation once we don t learn
from our mistakes. We read many articles the common factor through all of these articles is the

Classism In Persepolis
Classism Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity. It is an act of justice (Nelson Mandela).
Making poverty a goal to give to people is not the point; giving equality to people will help them
out, and position them for a preferable life setting. In Persepolis, a young girl makes her own
decisions in life, and deals with life outside changing due to the Iranian Revolution. In The
House on Mango Street, a young girl elucidates her observations on the new neighborhood she
just moved into. Although the girl is not ecstatic about the house she tells herself she will soon
get a house of her own. In The Kite Runner, a young boy grows up living with his best friend that
is a servant. The boy learns about the life between being a Hazara and Pashtun. In The House on
Mango Street, The Kite Runner, and Persepolis persuasion has impacted the characters life on
classism affecting the way friends treat each other, the way one lives, and trying to help those
around them. Classism has influenced the character Marjane in Persepolis by helping those
around her. Marjane writes letters for her maid, which explain the love the maid has for a boy
next door. So I wrote letters for her. One each week for six months (Satrapi 35). Marjane finds a
way to help her maid, Mehri, who acts just like an older sister to her. Mehri can not read or write,
so Marjane helps her to express her love to the boy next door. Marjane helps Mehri because she
is poor and believes it s the right thing to do. An addition to the maid, Marjane and her family
help their dying uncle achieve his last request. After negotiating a price..Khosro agreed to make
a passport in five days..Three weeks after these events, Uncle Taher was buried. His real passport
arrived the same day (Satrapi 124). Taher s last wish was to see his son before dying, but as a
result of being poor, Taher was not able to get his passport made in time. Marjane and her father
go to Khosro to make illegal passports, but is not made on time due to an invasion that made the
man run off to Sweden. Marjane and her family are not as poor as others, however, they try to help
out whoever they can. Another reason classism has affected Esperanza in The House on Mango
Street is by how she lives.

The s Treatment Of Killer Whales
Ever since the entertainment industry began to capture animals for the enjoyment of others,
activists who believe animals can only subsist in the wild have been protesting against this
monstrous act, using powerful propaganda to entice others to join their cause. The critically
acclaimed film Blackfish, which highlights SeaWorlds treatment of killer whales, apparently reveals
shocking and appalling insight on accidental deaths caused by captive killer whales. One of the
highest grossing documentaries of all time, as stated on director Gabriela Cowperthwaite s website,
Blackfish has captivated millions of viewers, causing them to reevaluate their values and
advocating against SeaWorld. Although Cowperthwaite has stated in an interview that the film is
not at all advocating for anything, and that she attempted to take a journalistic approach to
documenting these phenomena, it is clear that the events depicted in the film reflect opposition to
SeaWorld and its captivity of whales. Although Blackfish extensively applies human emotionand
concepts to the animal kingdom to solicit sympathy from the viewers and provides misleading
information to add to the sense of credibility, further research contradicts the points made in the
film, rendering the conveyance of the film s admonition against the captivity of killer whales
ineffective. The weight of the film lies in the deep emotional underpinnings that convince viewers
to feel compassion for the captive whales. The film

Drinking Diet Soda Is Healthier For You Than Drinking...
Next, many consumers believe that drinking diet soda is healthier for you than drinking regular
soda filled with sugar but studies are starting to show that artificial sweeteners may actually lead
to diabetes. Mary Ann Yantis, PhD, RN, a nurse educator for Nursing Education Consultants and
Kate Hunter, RD, LD (2010), a clinical dietitian at Adventist Medical Center reports (2010) that
drinking more than one serving of diet soda per day can increase your risk of metabolic
syndrome by more than 36%. Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors, which includes
hypertension, abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia and hypertriglyceridemia. These risk factors
increase a person s risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and stroke. This same study also
reports (2010) that one diet soda per day can increase a person s risk of developing type 2 diabetes
by more the 67%. This is possibly due to the fact that artificial sweeteners can be up to 13,000 times
sweeter than sugarand this intense sweetness can be addictive thus creating cravings for more
sweetness in order to feel satisfied. Yantis and Hunter (2010) point out that the sweet taste triggers
the same dopamine signals that are also triggered by drugs such as cocaine and heroin. Craving for
more intense artificial sweetness will result in consuming more calories, increase the likelihood of
developing insulinresistance, and more than likely affect the glucose metabolism (Yantis Hunter,

Many Thanksgiving celebrations today are still centered around getting together with family
and friends and giving thanks. The term Black Friday was first used, according to US News
Digital Weekly, in 1869 in reference to a stock market crash on the day after Thanksgiving that
year. US News Digital Weekly says that it was again used in 1951 to describe the high number
of workers that skipped work that day. Eventually, employers started giving workers the day
after Thanksgiving as a vacation day. In turn, many of the workers used this day to start their
shopping for the holiday season, making the day after the Thanksgiving a day that many stores
started making huge profits. If a business has a profitable market, they are considered in the
black . This is likely what brought about the modern meaning of the phrase Black Friday.
However, it wasn t until 2004 that Black Friday was officially considered the biggest shopping
day of the year...according to data from retail analyst ShopperTrak, (Tozzi). Today, stores
everywhere have Black Friday sales with almost comically low prices on merchandise to entice
potential customers and drive them away from competing stores.
Recently, America s obsession with Black Friday has generated various opinions on the day itself,
its proximity to Thanksgiving, and the morality of the holiday shopping season. Many view

the form of bank deposits when they make loans and the problems caused by the way in which
money is created by banks and the effect on debt, house prices, inequality, the environment, the
level of democracy, recessions crises, jobs businesses and taxes public spending.
The advantages and disadvantages of the positive money proposal include the following;
The bank would provide the payment systems such as cheque books, debit cards, internet banking,
and ATMs that allow the customer to use their sovereign money to make payments.
The account holder can easily access their money through ATMs, transfer and check their account

Banks require account holders maintain a minimum balance in their account and if they do not
maintain the account, they will be fined. However, the banks give a limit of transfer and
withdrawal per month and this poses an inconvenience to the customer who needs to make an
emergency withdrawal that will exceed the number of withdrawals permitted.
The accounts would be interest free, and banks would be able to charge account fees for providing
these services.

Hopefuls Display Differences On Education
Education today is one of the utmost important possessions people cling on to, and lately has
been a major topic in debate. Parents want to ensure that their children are brought up in a school
system that provides not only the tools to become successful in the education aspect of their lives,
but a well structured system that provides the course work to do so as well, in which giving
everyone an equal chance to succeed. The common core procedures, that schools are expected to
abide to, were thought to be the answer to this call for equality in education. However, some
political entities believe that it is not the place for the government to invest its power in, that it
should be left to state or even local level governments (Rich, 2015). Some states have even chosen
to go back to their own standards because of the great division on the issue (Rich, 2015).
In a New York Times article titled, G.O.P. Hopefuls Display Differences on Education, by Motoko

A Dollhouse And The Glass Menagerie
One of the most important thematic bridges connecting two of the seminal works of Henrik Ibsen,
author of A Dollhouse, and Tennessee Williams, playwright of The Glass Menagerie, is
abandonment and its effects on the family dynamic. Each work s protagonist Tom in The Glass
Menagerie and Nora in A Dollhouse actively undergoes the process of starting afresh in life by
abandoning the strict limitations of domesticity in search of spiritual and financial stability. While
both characters ultimately end up declaring their independence from their families, the
consequences they face in the aftermath are uniquely a result of the specific dynamic they suffer
from in their respective works. In Nora s case, the tight grip of her husband Torvald as well as her
dubious under the table deal with Krogstad highlights her capricious and shady nature, while Tom

Nora s sudden transformation from dutiful housewife to fiercely independent spinster with a mind
of her own is bound to keep some readers confused because of Ibsen s theatrical decision to keep

Williams, primarily through the framing of The Glass Menagerie as a memory play, places the
audience more squarely in tune with Tom s psychological justifications for leaving his family
through his constant breaking of the fourth wall, emphasizing that the tricks in his pockets will
come out in full view for the audience to see to fully understand his abandonment of the Wingfields

symbolized through his internment in picture form on the Wingfields mantle, to act upon impulse
and finally escape the restrictive bonds that living with his mother and sister has placed upon

American And Nigerian Culture Essay
American and Nigerian cultures are alike in some aspects of life, while being dissimilar in other
aspects. This idea is clearly exemplified when one compares their own experience and knowledge
of culture in America to that description and portrayal of Nigerian culture as seen through Buchi
Emecheta s novel, The Wrestling Match.
Both of our societies can be looked at as parallel in how teenagers are typically stereotyped, rivalry
among towns/villages, and the attainment of manhood or maturity through experiences or
accomplishments.
Contrary to the similarity of the cultures, there are also some basic differences. One of the main

Lastly, Okei s ( Okei is a teen who lives in Igbuno and is the novel s main character) Uncle Obi
Agiliga is convinced that the teenagers of Igbuno are setting an terrible immoral example for the
upcoming generation.
How many teenagers in our society have not had an immediate finger of blame pointed at them
when something happens or goes wrong? How many of us have not been told what a terrible
example we are setting for our younger siblings?
Teenagers seem to be synonymous with rude, obnoxious, and difficult, stubborn, etc. Another
similarity of cultures gleaned from Emecheta s writing is reaction to rivalry. A very important
event to the villages in the novel was the wrestling match which pits the Akpei Uma aya Biafra
against the Igbuno Uma aya Baifra. There is much preparation of the athletes and many people
attend.
In addition, at the market, the Akpei people would not purchase produce from
Josephine Kwutelu and other girls also from Igbuno since they are from the competitors side.
A similar event we have right here in the Pennridge Community is the annual Pennridge
Quakertown Football game. It generates quite a rivalry, much time is spent in preparation and many
many people attend.
Finally, in both Nigerian and American cultures, it is perceived that manhood is

Commercial Life in Pompeii
Commercial Life in Pompeii and Herculaneum Historians have debated the nature of Pompeian
economy whether it was based on agriculture or trade. Some see the Roman empire in modern
terms as one vast single market where demand drove up prices and productivity stimulated trade
to a never before seen level (residue of pollution can be found in Greenland s ice cap and the
many ship wrecks indicating the large volume of sea borne traffic). Other historians see Roman
economy as primitive based primarily on agriculture and the main aim of any community was to
feed itself, with trade as the icing on the cake (based on the risky and costly sea travel, lack of
banking system, social mores for respectability being against trade and laws... Show more content

important industries in Pompeii the washing and dyeing of wool and the manufacture of cloth,
as well as the laundering, bleaching and re colouring of clothes. The raw wool was first
degreased by boiling in leaden boilers, then once it was carded it was sent to spinners and
weavers in private homes or shops and then it was coloured (often in bright colours such as
purple and saffron) before distribution to cloth merchants. There have been 18 fullonicae

with built in steps for washing and rinsing. Workers trod the cloth in a mixture of potash,
carbonate of soda and urine (collected in jugs from the inhabitants of the town!). Four fulleries

Sylvia Plath Poetry Analysis
Sylvia Plath, Judith Right and Emily Dickinson all express through their poetry the diverse feelings
and beliefs they have in regards to life and death. Throughout Plath s poems it is evident that she
resents life and obsesses over the purity and perfection that she associates with death. Contrastingly,
Wright demonstrates through her poems how she accepts the cycle of life, and embraces the gifts
and challenges that it holds. Then, unlike Plath and Wright, Dickinson regards deathand the afterlife
with uncertainty and she portrays through her poetrythe curiosity she has for life after death and the
secrets it holds. These poets all use the similar technique of imagery to express the intense emotions
they associate with both life and death. Furthermore, throughout the poems by Dickinson, Plath and
Wright it is evident that each employ language techniques to portray their diverse beliefs and
emotions regarding life and death. Finally, all three poets employ structure to illustrate the depth to
which they regard life and death and the power each holds.
Throughout the imagery in the poems Tulips , Woman to Child and Just lost, when I was saved!
by Plath, Wright and Dickinson, respectively, each poet explores their views in regard to life and
death. This is evident within Tulips as Plath states Their smiles catch onto my skin, little smiling
hooks. Thus, illustrating through the personification of hooks, how her family do not know the
pain that they cause her as their smiles dig into her skin and hold her to a life that she does not
want. Furthermore, the metaphor of the hooks draws a direct comparison between being
unwillingly held to her life, just as a hook catches fish which do not want to be caught.
Conversely, Wright expresses her acceptance of the lifecycle as she states in Woman to Child Out
of darkness rose the seed. / Then all a world I made in me and I am the stem that fed the fruit,/ the
link that joins you to the night. Thereby, through employing nature imagery, Wright demonstrates
the serenity and naturalness with which she regards death, just as the death and regeneration of
plants is natural. Additionally, the imagery of darkness is portrayed in a positive sense as the gift
of her

Plastic Surgery Pros And Cons
Plastic surgery for weight loss can have its pros and its cons. Great results can come out of
different types of procedures. But, bad things can also be a result such as complications of surgery.

Abdominoplasty, also know as the tummy tuck is a skin removal surgery that consist of one

issue. Julia had a hard recovery but is now very happy with her body and has a very healthy
lifestyle thanks to these surgeries. The ramifications of plastic surgery sometimes don t result well
because of the expenses that are due. Plastic surgery can cost thousands of dollars depending on the
surgery and the surgeon. Insurance doesn t pay for plastic surgery, many people go in debt.
Common surgeries

Ingsoc s Use Of Propaganda In The Book 1984 By George Orwell
In the book 1984, which takes place in Oceania, all people are constantly under surveillance by
Ingsoc. Ingsoc is Oceania s government. Also the widespread use of propaganda is quite evident
in this book. Surveillance and propaganda are used to control, watch, and influence the peoples of
Oceania. Ingsoc uses surveillance to watch and listen to every person living in Oceania. One quote
makes this very evident and the quote is: Big Brother is watching you. Big brother is watching you
means just what it sounds like. Ingsoc the governmentknows what each person is up to at all times
because they are watching the peoples. In Oceania each house comes with a telescreen that watches
and listens to each of the families daily lives. The telescreens sometimes make noises when Ingsoc
wants to get in touch with the people.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The telescreens were used for both surveillance and propaganda. They used telescreens for
propaganda by putting on advertisements and boosting how lucky the people were to have
Ingsoc. This quote shows propaganda, Behind Winston s back the voice from the telescreen was
still babbling away about pig iron and the overfulfillment of the Ninth Three Year Plan. As seen in
this quote the telescreens use propaganda to make people trust and believe in the plans Ingsoc has.
Instead of telling people they are watching them so they have full control, Ingsoc says they just
want to assure everyone is living in safe

Clearly, besides trivial physical properties, such an entity does not lose any of the elements that make us human, but it is nevertheless different. If we wish to maintain consistent in emphasizing thoughts and emotions, such a being would still be human. This scenario will necessitate an expansion in what most people think of when they think of humanity. Moreover, such an intelligence could then began to improve itself, becoming better and better at doing so, resulting in a superintelligence (Bostrom). Many popular social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is where a lot of bullying happens to take place. I definitely understand why this has become such an enormous moral panic because of the negative influences it has on young people or juveniles. The internet makes it apparent and easy to judge others by the way someone looks, dress, or act. Even though this is a country of freedom, liberty, and equality, people still are inclined to judge others and critique them harshly. Romanticism In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Mary Shelley s Frankenstein INTRO: While the Age of Enlightenment emphasized reason and knowledge, the following literary period from 1800 to 1850 known as Romanticism was characterized by creativity, emotion and relationships. Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein, written in 1818, exemplifies this style of literature in its use of imagery, tone and symbolism. By implementing a writing technique known as frame narrative, a perspective is presented as a story within a story within another story, etc. In this particular book, the reader is introduced to an explorer named Robert Walton, whose letters begin as first person narration, which transition into the viewpoints of the other main characters in Frankenstein. On his voyage to the North Pole, Walton writes letters to his sister in England that explain his encounter with a scientist named Victor Frankenstein, who in turn tells his story of how he created a monster. Frankenstein s creation then narrates and defends the life unwillingly thrust upon him. Spirituality And Religiosity While consensus among researchers on the definition of spirituality and religiosity is lacking, what it means to be spiritual or religious and what constitutes a spiritual person in the literature is still very highly researched (Stranahan, 2008). Many definitions of religiosity and spirituality include religious service attendance, some sort of meaning and purpose in life, personal strength to cope with difficulties, and believing in a higher being (Stranahan, 2008). Older adults tend to have stronger faith and greater spirituality than younger populations (Moberg, 2005). This difference in spirituality between younger populations and older adults is possibly tied to the deepening of spiritual interests and concern during the later years (Moberg, 2005, p. 15). Older adults tend to become more religious, or turn to religionmore as they age, instead of maintaining a high level of religiosity throughout their lives (Moberg, 2005). Spirituality and religiosity are very important to the aging process due to the connection observed in many studies between spiritual health and physical and mental health and well being, with religion having protective health effects. But his Age of Innocence is as straightforward as period romances get, resulting in a lush drama where no blood is shed, hell is uttered once, and cigars are favored over cocaine. At first glance, it d even be hard to watch the film and believe that Scorsese had directed it. The film was a minor box office failure, just failing to recoup its $34 million budget with only $32.3 million at the box office. Some schools focus on a vocational education, which helps students learn in relation to a particular career, while others may focus on liberal arts, which emphasizes the importance of core subjects. Each has their own unique pros and cons, but a vocational educationproves to be more effective in preparing students for the future, providing them with more opportunities, hands on experiences, and a direct path to the career of their choice. Vocational education is generally provided in stand alone schools or as additional classes in liberal arts schools. The vocations that students are prepared for may include medicine, law, nursing, mechanics, and even engineering or business. One major benefit of this early exposure to a wide range of professions may be that students have a better idea as to what career may be right for them in the future, rather than not have any idea by the time collegerolls around. This is becoming increasingly important, as in many public schools around the countries, which typically provide a liberal arts education, vocational classes are being cut back due to budget cuts. By having an idea of what they want to do, students can begin their studies while still in high school, and once in college, know what courses to take that will contribute directly to their major. To this day there is no clear answer as both sides of the argument give reasons to refute the opposing side s arguments. Ernest Nagel is a well known philosopher as he is recognized for his works against theism and for supporting atheism in his literary works. In Nagel s A Defense Of Atheism he criticizes the theistic arguments that claim a godis overseeing our world. Out of the three arguments, these two are the weakest for simple logic can quickly subside them. Nagel supplies this logic for diminishing these arguments in his analysis of both arguments. However, Nagel claims that earth could have easily existed forever and that if God is self caused than the earth itself just as easily can be self caused also as he states but if God can be self caused, why cannot the world itself be self caused? (A Defense of Atheism 87). Secondly, Nagel belittles the ontological argument which claims that God must exist because he is perfect and that anything perfect must exist by definition. Which sounds vague and Nagel points this out by claiming that the existence of an object makes no difference by how we formulate them. The well known philosopher Immanuel Kant also had a great appeal by claiming that ...it is just a confusion to say that existence is an attribute, and that though the word existence may occur as the grammatical predicate in a sentence, no attribute is being predicated of a thing when we say that the thing exists or has existence. (A Defense of Atheism 88) Excluding Nagel and Kant s logical explanations against these arguments, I also have my doubts as these two arguments seem to take an ignorant stance. It seems as if the creators of these arguments are stubborn children who believe God has to exist because there is no other possible explanation. The article, Stereotypical Constructions of the Maori Race in the Media, written by Melanie Wall (1997), can be summarised as an article focusing on the effect the colonisation of New Zealand had on the Maori as a population. It mainly focuses on the way Maori have been imagined as the stereotypical Black Other . It speaks of the perpetuation and (re)formation of Maori identities, including the way Maori are constrained by their Black Other stereotype within New Zealand. The article talks about representations of race through identity images , the effect of the Maori Renaissance (in particular its effect on identity formations), and Maori Stereotypes in the Media. In the beginning of the article, Wall talks about the categorisations of racialised discourse. She mentions different justifications of stereotypes, and how they relate to what is referred to as the construction of the new world . Wall believes that as well as the traditional old racisms, there is also a new racism which is spoken about by Barker in 1981. She uses the example of Maori as the unemployable/unemployed, which has became one of the main stereotypes, that construct the identity of specific Maori. The Female Body By Margaret Atwood Existence of Serving and Survival in The Female Body by Margaret Atwood Even though humans all have the same label, preferential treatment resides with the males. This is especially true in The Female Body by Margaret Atwood. Considering the society s perception of how interaction between races and genders should be, white males are at the top of the social hierarchy. In this hierarchy, the white are above the coloured and the men are above the females. Hence, women are given selective and limiting freedom and yet men are also limited by society to the point that most men do not realise they have limitations placed upon them. Nevertheless men and women do not live their lives, they survive and yet men seem to enjoy life. Therefore women are marionettes, men are puppets and society is the puppeteer. There s a wide range (38) of marionettes and to the men in society; they must have one. A wife that men will select from many; like selecting an item from the vast versions of the same product. Women are a commodity that all men eligible for marriage will receive. Hence, women are degraded to as if it were flesh and blood (38); they are not even considered as humans, but a topic (38) that has the appearance of a human. • 31. Classism In Persepolis Classism Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity. It is an act of justice (Nelson Mandela). Making poverty a goal to give to people is not the point; giving equality to people will help them out, and position them for a preferable life setting. In Persepolis, a young girl makes her own decisions in life, and deals with life outside changing due to the Iranian Revolution. In The House on Mango Street, a young girl elucidates her observations on the new neighborhood she just moved into. One of the highest grossing documentaries of all time, as stated on director Gabriela Cowperthwaite s website, Blackfish has captivated millions of viewers, causing them to reevaluate their values and advocating against SeaWorld. Although Cowperthwaite has stated in an interview that the film is not at all advocating for anything, and that she attempted to take a journalistic approach to documenting these phenomena, it is clear that the events depicted in the film reflect opposition to SeaWorld and its captivity of whales. Although Blackfish extensively applies human emotionand concepts to the animal kingdom to solicit sympathy from the viewers and provides misleading information to add to the sense of credibility, further research contradicts the points made in the film, rendering the conveyance of the film s admonition against the captivity of killer whales ineffective. Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors, which includes hypertension, abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia and hypertriglyceridemia. These risk factors increase a person s risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and stroke. This same study also reports (2010) that one diet soda per day can increase a person s risk of developing type 2 diabetes by more the 67%. This is possibly due to the fact that artificial sweeteners can be up to 13,000 times sweeter than sugarand this intense sweetness can be addictive thus creating cravings for more sweetness in order to feel satisfied. Yantis and Hunter (2010) point out that the sweet taste triggers the same dopamine signals that are also triggered by drugs such as cocaine and heroin. Throughout Plath s poems it is evident that she resents life and obsesses over the purity and perfection that she associates with death. Contrastingly, Wright demonstrates through her poems how she accepts the cycle of life, and embraces the gifts and challenges that it holds. Then, unlike Plath and Wright, Dickinson regards deathand the afterlife with uncertainty and she portrays through her poetrythe curiosity she has for life after death and the secrets it holds. These poets all use the similar technique of imagery to express the intense emotions they associate with both life and death. Furthermore, throughout the poems by Dickinson, Plath and Wright it is evident that each employ language techniques to portray their diverse beliefs and emotions regarding life and death. Furthermore, the metaphor of the hooks draws a direct comparison between being unwillingly held to her life, just as a hook catches fish which do not want to be caught. Conversely, Wright expresses her acceptance of the lifecycle as she states in Woman to Child Out of darkness rose the seed. / Then all a world I made in me and I am the stem that fed the fruit,/ the link that joins you to the night. Thereby, through employing nature imagery, Wright demonstrates the serenity and naturalness with which she regards death, just as the death and regeneration of plants is natural. Additionally, the imagery of darkness is portrayed in a positive sense as the gift of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
