Millard Fuller Research Paper
One thing that people can say is that everyone desires to have a place to sleep, eat and live.
Many people like the idea of having a place they can call home. One organization, Habitat for
Humanities, has made ownership a possibility for anyone who desires to have it. For years
people have been searching for a less expensive way to begin their journey out of their
predicament of not having their own place to lay their head. Nothing can ever come without
hard work though; to become a candidate for owning a home, people have to go through
numerous classes and engage sweat equity . This organization has changed the lives of over a
million families in over 1,400 bases internationally. Where this great organization came from is
the real question. The answer, an idea; before the idea came a feeling or motion that one person
felt they should act on. Millard Fuller, the man who felt there were too many homeless people in
the world and decided to do something about it. Millard Fuller was born in... Show more content on

Fuller made a lasting impression on President Clinton and it was noted that he said, Habitat has
revolutionized the lives of thousands... Millard Fuller has done as much to make the dream of
home ownership a reality in our country and throughout the world as any living person. ( Linda
and Millard Fuller, 2009). Habitat for Humanity had enlarged to residing in Hungry, Romania,
Mexico and India ( Linda and Millard Fuller, 2009). Millard Fuller was accused of inappropriate
behavior directed towards a female employee in the late 1990 s. Causatively, Fuller was forced to
step down from leadership in 2005 even though there was an insufficient amount of evidence.
Instantly after leaving Habitat for Humanity Fuller and his wife founded a new organization by the
name of Fuller Center for Housing. They built on top of the partnerships they had already created (

Down with the Death Penalty
Introduction
Life is a precious thing. This is something that the majority of people can agree on. It s for this
reason that taking someone s life is one of the most if not the most disgraceful of crimes. Murder is
a crime deserving of the harshest punishment available at the hands of the criminal justice
system. This brings us to one of the most debated upon issues of today. Is taking the life of one
who has taken the life of others an acceptable punishment? When making your decision think
about this question; Is the life of the murderer worth any less than the victim s life? Is the death
penalty in any form morally justifiable in today s society? The underlying question would be is
any kind of killing acceptable, regardless of what the motive behind it is. I personally don t believe
that it is an acceptable punishment no matter what the crime. I see it as becoming somewhat like
the monsters that we strive to put behind bars.
Thesis
In regards to the death penalty, it is my belief that life without parole is better for several reasons.
I m against the death penalty not for the benefit of the criminals but because it doesn t reduce crime
rates, it lengthens the agony experienced by the families of the victims, costs considerably more
than life in prison, and, most importantly, risks the deaths of many innocent people. The death
penalty ends up being a more tedious process than sentencing someone to life

Descriptive Essay About Cruise To The Sky
A Cruise to the Sky Always ready for what life has to throw at him, my father pushes through
positively. Somehow, he always tends to drag my sisters and me along on his crazy journeys
through life. Which is great most of the time, but not so great some of the time. My father and all
seven of his siblings had this grand idea to go on a cruise to the beautiful Caribbean Islands. Of
course, my sisters and I liked the idea of this journey. My whole familybooked the cruise and the
preparation began. My dad would take my sisters and me shopping for new clothes and swimsuits.
Before the vacation had begun, we lived a great life. The cruise came up on me like winter creeps

I know we will have a great vacation, I tried to rally.
That is the right attitude. Now let s go have some fun!
I had never been paragliding before. So as before ascending into the bright blue sky I told the boat
driver, Do not let my feet touch the water. I am deathly afraid of sharks and fishes.
He laughingly replied, I will try not to. Nervously, I got buckled up and ready to rise into the
warm Caribbean air. My stomach started to stir inside me. Feeling like I could have vomited at
any minute, I became very pale. Breann, who is my twenty year old sister, said, Don t worry. It
will be fun and you will never have this experience again. You just need to be brave.
I quietly replied, Okay. I will be okay. I can do this. Let s go!
I indeed had a marvelous day. I experienced something I never have before. My feet dangled in
the open air like ornaments on a lit christmas tree. They suddenly became tense and tight. The
clear blue sea below me sparkled like a giant crystal chandelier. Covered with tourists, the busy
beach looked like an anthill. The sun was a golden ball. I giggled as the clouds whirled and
zigzagged around me. The softness of the clouds comforted my sun kissed skin. I breathed deeply.
The air fresh and crisp like the mountains on a brisk fall morning. Speechless,

Jewish Migration And The Holocaust
While researching texts written about Jewish Diaspora, I came across many documentary
publications on Holocaust. This tragic part of Jewish history is very well documented as opposite
to the Jewish Migration. I found few authors who published articles and books on Impacts of the
Holocaust on Jewish Migration. My goal in this research paper is to explore the topic of Jewish
Migration by connecting it to the Holocaust. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper in
the chronological order. I have tried to analyse reasons and barriers of the Migration of Jewish
during the ten year period. It starts with Hitler coming to power and ends with establishment of the
State of Israel. In my conclusion I tried to understand how modern world responds to Holocaust.
The Holocaust is one of the most tragic pages in the history of mankind and one of the greatest
tragedies of the Jewish people many children of survivors, who experienced their parents silence
and avoidance of discussing the past and their family s fate, felt this as a personal threat (Dalia
Ofer10). Holocaust was a cold blooded and pre deliberate decision to destroy a nation. It was
estimated that during the Holocaust about 60% of the total Jewish population of Europe was
destroyed according to official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. It is not possible to
establish the exact number of victims among the Jewish people due to the lack of reliable data on
the extent of the genocide ( Refugees. ). Jewswere

The Revenant Themes
The genre I chose to review for the month of October was an American Movie, The Revenant.
Directed by Alejandro GonzГЎlez IГ±ГЎrritu this film is set in 1823 in Montana and South
Dakota and the main character is Hugh Glass played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Hugh Glass is a
frontiersman who is half Native American and has a Native American son named Hawk. The
movie revolves around his struggles as a father and his comeback after being attacked by a bear and
almost dying, losing his son, and being left behind by his own men. In the end a Native
American chief kills the man who killed Glass s son. The last scene show Glass falling to his knees
and seeing a vision of his dead wife walking into the light and then Glass s eyes fill up with tears. I

The movie also has merit because of the emotion that is displayed by the main characters during
their long and difficult journey throughout the movie. Overall, The Revenant was an emotional and
suspenseful journey through Hugh Glass s struggles as an American Frontiersman.
The connection to American culture is strong in this movie because of its setting and the
characters involved. The setting is in South Dakota and Montana. The time period is the winter
of 1823, a popular time for the American Frontier. Many of the scenes in the movie show
extreme cold and lots of snow. For example, when Hugh Glass is wounded and running from an
Indian Tribe on a horse, he jumps off a cliff with the horse. He then precedes to open the horse
and gut it. Then he goes inside of the horse and falls asleep. This horse s bodies saved him from
the hearse cold that ended up freezing the whole outside of the horse. To film this obscene cold, the
movie was actually filmed in Calgary and Alberta, Canada because their is more frontier like land
up north in less developed and less traveled land. Watching the movie, there was no distinctive

Punk Rock Revolution
Despite the internal turmoil in the punk movement, punk rock made several things clear to
international audiences. Punk Rock, in its subculture, managed to break down many barriers of
expression and language. It made an indentation in the commercial music industry. It provided a
fresh alternative to a boring, stagnant musicscene. But most of all, punk s legacy lies in its
introduction of self employment and activism, most essential to Britain at the time. It illustrated
that anyone can do it themselves, without reliance on the commercial media or the luxury of having
financial abundance. Against the backdrop of mass consumer conformity, the punk rock movement
made a statement of individuality that was heard worldwide. Through the words... Show more

The Growth Of Internet Coupled With The Rise Of Multimedia...
Abstract. The growth of internet coupled with the rise in networked infrastructure has resulted in
exponential increase in the multimedia content being shared over the communication networks.
The advancement in technology has resulted in increase in multimedia piracy. This is due to the
fact that it is very easy to copy, duplicate and distributes multimedia content using current day
technology. In such a scenario Digital Rights Management is one of the prominent issues to be
dealt with and tremendous work is going on in this direction round the globe. Digital watermarking
and fingerprinting have emerged as fundamental technologies to cater to DRM issues. These
technologies have been found to be of prominent use in content authentication, copy protection,
copyright control, broadcast monitoring and forensic applications. Various requirements of a digital
watermarking system include Imperceptibility, Robustness, Security, Payload and Computational
complexity. The main requirement of real time DRM systems is lesser computational complexity
and high robustness. This chapter proposes and analyses a robust and computational efficient
Image watermarking technique in spatial domain based on Inter Block Pixel Difference (IBPD).
The cover image is divided into 8Г—8 non overlapping blocks and difference between intensities
of two pixels of adjacent blocks at predefined positions is calculated. Depending upon the
watermarkbit to be embedded; both the pixels are modified to bring the

One of the reasons why it should be banned is because it involves permanent deforestation.
According to the Appalachian Voices Organization, This means not only lost wildlife habitat, but
also the steady disappearance of a forest system that naturally captures and holds carbon dioxide,
one of the greenhouse gases responsible for climate change. For this reason, mountaintop removal is
becoming a cause of global warmingdue to many things such as deforestation, which exposes

According to the Appalachian Voices Organization, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
notes that iron and manganese concentrations surpass drinking water guidelines in at least 40% of
wells on the Appalachian Plateau, and in about 70% of the wells near reclaimed surface coal
mines of the region. This proves that many communities local drinking water are being poisoned
by the chemicals and waste left behind from the mountaintop removal sites that has entered their
water supply and many water streams. Coal slurry, a waste left after washing and processing coal
with water and chemicals, also gets into to their drinking supply and extremely dangerous because
it is highly toxic and it can leach into groundwater. Furthermore, On August 20, 2004, a bulldozer
pushed a boulder weighing half a ton from a mountaintop removal site in Appalachia, Virginia. The
falling boulder crashed into the side of a residence, crushing 3 year old Jeremy Davidson in his
sleep. This demonstrates that mountaintop removal is terribly dangerous most especially to local
communities affected by it because the debris and explosions from mountaintop removal can
destroy nearby buildings and potentially kill someone. Mountaintop removal should be banned

Analysis Of August Wilson s Fences
In today s society people have to deal with several issues that we can t explain. For some of us
we built fences to isolate ourselves from others or in some cases to protect ourselves. No matter
what the issue is we, all have to struggle to be able to provide for our families. As a child I built
fences when it came to my feelings. For example, growing up I was in the chunky side. Since I
wasnt so skinny like the pretty girls in my class. I kinda isolated my self from the other students.
That way my feelings wouldn t get hurt. My fence was to protect me from what I thought was
going to hurt me. Well the same thing happened to Troy Maxson. In the play, Fences written by the
well known playwright, August Wilson, is the story of Troy Maxson and his beloved family.
Throughout the whole entire play, a fence is being built around the Maxson household. As the
story unfolds to the viewers, the word fences may look like a simple title, but the truth is it has
different symbolic meaning. The real definition of the word fence is revealed along with the
personalities of the characters in the play. In Fences , August Wilson uses different types of fences
as a metaphor to explain how these people live.
Our play takes place during the year 1957. During the mid 1950s, America was still experiencing
a post World War II, economic boom, and of course allowing foreign affairs to take action when
dealing with domestic issues. According to PBS channel during the year 1954 the Supreme

The Causes Of Natural Disasters
Three people during a dangerous hurricane try to stay alive, and one person walks to the
bathroom. While he is walking to the bathroom a window breaks and a piece of glass cuts him in
the neck. They can not call the ambulance because of the hurricane. He later dies in her own home
from blood loss. (bleeding to death)I wanted to research on this natural disasters because I want to
help make the worldsafe and its life in the world. I care about the destruction of these natural
disasters. There can be a buildingthat is one billion dollars that is just built, then it was destroyed
during a tornado or hurricane. The main point or question i m overall trying to cover is that why
don t we try to stop or predict and help fight the disasters in the world. We can help in a lot of
ways to help stop many things from dying or the destruction it causes.I think I can, I will stop this
by telling the world that we can help prevent these natural disasters by helping each other to help
predict and someday prevent them.
There are many reasons to help prevent or stop these natural disasters. These solutions are available
because of the fact that we have a lot more people than we need to help prevent or stop these natural
disasters. These solutions include building, donating, and in general stop doing stuff that is
dangerous during a natural disaster. One of these is building dams or walls to prevent tsunamis if the
wall is big and strong to prevent from these natural disasters from hitting.

Workplace Diversity Of The Workplace
Job s face many struggles and challenges each and every day. Workplace diversity is something
which is being talked about the most here lately. Out breaks of minimum wage, sexualities, gender,
and even your skin color affects what diversity a business would want. Within the business, the
professional level is set pretty high due to the superior designers making us able to dress well
fashioned. When people step into a businessthey do not want someone that is going to walk in
with a t shirt and gym shorts, they would rather them be in dress pants and a nice dress shirt with
fashionable shoe wear. It does not have to be the top notch designer clothing, just something
which doesn t scream I just woke up from bed. The thing which is being most talked about these
days is diversity. People who are African American, white, Hispanic, gay, lesbian, bisexual, male,
or even female could feel unwanted at a higher end business. The more people are expanding their
personalities and how much they want to be shown that anyone could do anything just as much as
the next man is outrageous. Workplace diversity is becoming more intense as the years continue
on and it is important to employers and employees for a number of reasons, a few of them being
that it would gain mutual respect with everyone, conflict resolution would not be as much of an
issue, and lastly the increased exposure due to all of the workplace diversity. Kitts 2

How Did Johannes Veermeer Use Of Visual Realism
Two artists in history are widely known for their abilities to depict scenes in such realistic manners
that you would never know they are actually paintings. These two artists were named Albert
Bierstadt and Johannes Vermeer. Both men came from different times and different ethnic settings.
Dutchman, Johannes Vermeer was born in the year 1632 and passed away tragically in 1675. Over
his lifetime Vermeer put his soul into his paintings, causing modern day historians and art lovers to
struggle to figure out how he painted such realistic scenes. His style of paintingcombined many
pictorial depth cues while maintaining realism throughout the relatively few paintings he produced.
Then there is the Prussian artist, Albert Bierstadt, who was born... Show more content on

In the case of Vermeer, his paintings The Music Lesson and The Concert both focus on
individuals comfortable in their everyday settings during the 1600 s. The emotions that are
given off to the viewers through the use of realism through the topics in both of the paintings,
would be respectful and understanding. However, in The Music Lesson, Vermeer added a sense
of warmth and gentleness to the individuals painted through added help of color perspective with
the clothing and objects surrounding them being much more vibrant. In The Concert, Vermeer
added a sense of warmth through color perspective with only a small ray of light shining on the
women, while leaving the man darker to invoke a sense of focus on his activities. Focusing still
on color, another tool Vermeer used to create a sense of visual realism was the use of shading.
Shading is another pictorial depth cue that allows for a painter to create a three dimensional
appearance to a two dimensional painting through the use of darker colors for the shadows of
objects. In The Music Lesson, one of the most obvious uses of shading appears with the use of a
shadow behind the painting above the piano, caused by the painting hanging forward. Another
example of where shading was used, was with the shadows from the legs of the piano itself on the
wall. In The Concert, Vermeer uses shading in a more subtle manner with the most obvious use of
shading being the shadow cast from the painting hanging on the wall. The subtlest use of shading
would be the shadows that appear on the individuals clothing caused by the folds of the material
and objects preventing light from reaching the cloth. Vermeer also used the pictorial depth cues of
linear perspective and size perspective which focus on framing the painting in real world size and
creating a vanishing point. In The Concert, linear

Behind The Formaldehyde Curtain
Having read three essays over the last five days, I can now sincerely say that the way an essay is
written is as important as its topic, when we think about its effect on the audience. That s actually
why I didn t like Behind the Formaldehyde Curtain even though it was enlightening me about a
pretty interesting topic. The writer chose the give the information step by step, and it was quite
boring reading twelve pages of concatenated data along with some quotes. Also the sentence: The
hands should be cupped slightly for a more lifelike, relaxed appearance (Brady) made me think
about death, in all the cultures, it is showed as if dying is a good thing rather than bad. Why do

Judy Brady also used repetitions in Why I Want a Wife such as: I want a wife who will take care
of my physical needs. I want a wife who will keep my house clean (Brady), to make her ideas
more effective, whereas Jessica Mitford used quotes from experts such as: Mr. John H. Eckels,
president of the Eckels College of Mortuary Science, thus describes the first part of the
embalming procedure: In the hands of a skilled practitioner, this work may be done in a
comparatively short time (Mitford) and Jonathan Swift uses facts such as: The number of souls in
this kingdom being usually reckoned one million and a half, of these I calculate there may be
about two hundred thousand couple whose wives 35 are breeders (Swift). I believe that using
repetitions was the most effective one because it helped creating a dramatic punch while giving the
message to the audience. It also occurred to me that all three of the novels aroused interest during
the time they were written, probably because the writers opposed the common senses on the topic,
instead they presented their ideas from a different point of

Essay The Art Cowboy
Booze, cigarettes, sex, beer, curses, affairs, abuse, paint: All of those are factors in Jackson
Pollock s life, however, one stands out above all as the most important one, paint. America s
greatest painter, born in Cody, Wyoming on January 28, 1912, had a deeper connection to this
colorful, flowing liquid than anyone else in history. Blood did not run through his veins, but oil
and pigment, tar and sand did. He became something else while he painted. He became his
painting. No other painter in history had been able to do what Jackson Pollockdid. Jackson pushed
past any boundaries in the world of art. He created something new, and at the time no one had

It was after he moved to Long Island that he discovered what he was to be truly famous for, his
drip paintings. According to the Smithsonian Museum of Art, Pollock began working on the
ground, on a not stretched canvas, throwing and dripping raw materials such as sand, tar, and
paint on the canvas (2). This was of painting without subject matter is known as action painting
(2). Indicated by one source, he needed to view his painting from all angles and step around it
(National Gallery of Art 2). This is part of the technique and action painter uses to get into his or
her painting. He had developed the ability to become completely part of his painting (2). In the
film Pollock, when Krasner discovers Pollock s new way of painting she says, You ve done it
Pollock. You ve cracked it open. This is exactly what Jackson did, he cracked open the art world,
exposing new skin and breaking all the traditions. Rugoff indicates that Pollock, with strong
influence, had changed painting from a traditional compositional technique to something else,
making his paintings look more as sculptures (442). Along with the finished product, the method
Pollock used to paint was out of the ordinary. Pollock painted physically, in almost a performance
art technique (National Gallery of Art 2). His movements could not be repeated, however, the
artwork always came out how the artist wanted it to (2). Pollock says himself

Determinism And Free-Will
In this essay I will be addressing whether or not human beings are morally responsible for their
actions. For one to be morally responsible for his/her action they must take into account that the
decision being made was from their own free will. Leading us now to whether human beings have
free will or is it determined. If we were to say determinismis true, then no individual should be
praised or punished for their actions due to the fact it was not based on their own free action. If
free will applies, he/she who commits an act practicing their own free will deserves to be praised
or punished for such an act. It could be argued that due to determinism people are not morally
responsible for their actions, however this would be ridiculous. It... Show more content on

An example of an external force could be parents supporting a type of behaviour thereby
encouraging it. On the other hand an internal force would be driven by hormones. Free will
believers assume that things are a bit difficult. They acknowledge that there is internal and
external factors, but yet they still believe that humans are free to choose their own behaviour.
Stace theorizes the idea of compatibility or soft determinism. He argues that free will exists but to
an extent which is known as soft determinism. Stace defines free act as free acts are all caused by
desire, motives, or by some sort of psychological state of the agent s mind . Unfree acts on the
other hand are those whose immediate causes are states of affairs external to the agent . Soft
determinism is the view that determinism and free will are compatible. It is a form of
compatibilism. Soft determinism consists of two main claims:

Based on my skills and interest I want to be a Financial Controller. With the growing marine
business, I want to be a Financial Controller of MacGregor USA Inc., an engineering solution
and services company that handles marine cargo. MacGregor USA, Inc. is part of Cargotec Inc.,
a cargo and load handling company, based in Finland. The company sells cargo handling
equipment and spare parts. It also provides services and solution for handling marine cargo and
offshore loads. The company has more than 10,000 employees worldwide. The Controller is often
thought same as Chief Financial officer (CFO), but they both are different. Controller reports to
CFO if the company has one. Otherwise, h/she reports to the President of the company. CFO reports
to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or the President. Other accounting managers and accountants
report to the controller. A financial controller is an individual in a company that is the head of the
accounting division within the company (Wilkinson, 2013). He is fully responsible for company s

Innocent Man
A book Review of The Innocent Man
By, Oscar Thomas
Novelist, former attorney, and Mississippi legislator, John Grisham, wrote the book entitled
Innocent Man. As a small town lawyer in the South, he experienced many events that provided him
with a clear view of families and communities. For this particular book, however, he gathered
research that would provide insight to the justice system of Oklahoma and he found injustice that
took the best years of a man s life.
While reading several selections Grisham book, I conclude that he is definitely pro anti capital
punishment. He really focuses on the lack of justice in the criminal justice system in states
predominately in the South and Midwest area. In these states spending any ... Show more content on

In an era where everyone is so concerned about the money, denying a defendant a reasonable
amount of funding (to his public defender) for expert consultants and their testimonies could save
thousands upon millions of dollars in wrongful prosecution lawsuits later. With the advent of DNA,
many previously convicted men and women are being let out. Interestingly enough, DNA evidence
isn t the ONLY thing that would have exonerated them, but no one would listen. One issue I think
Grisham was trying to help people see is the fact that we should not believe what we THINK, it has
to be what we KNOW. What is the harm in humane treatment? Yes, criminals should be kept from
the public, but since the justice system is not perfect and will make mistakes they shouldn t be so
self righteous about their treatment of those they deem unworthy.
Ron s example was just one of many who, because they are not the smartest, most capable souls,
they make stupid mistakes, their odd behaviors offend many and they are the first ones put under a
microscope when something goes wrong.

Cultural Culture Courtship And Marriage
Cultural relativism says that we must examine cultural practices within a cultural context, seeking
to understand different practices from the eye of those who practice them. It is sometimes hard to
understand other cultures from an emic perspective, and there is a tendency to favor your culture,
viewing it as superior. It is helpful to change your perspective, assuming an outside view towards
your culture and taking an inside look at another. Over the course of this paper, I will explain my
American Culture courtshipand marriagetraditions through the etic eye to show the perspective to
an outsider, and I will examine an aspect of the Sub Saharan African polygyny marriage from an
emic perspective to become familiar with this lifestyle.
In this section, I will examine the American culture in courtship and marriage from an etic
perspective. As Crapo(2013) describes etic as etic models invariably describe cultures in ways that
seem alien to its participants but facilitate comparisons between cultures and the discovery of
universal principles in the structure and functioning of cultures (p.27). In the article Body Ritual
among the Nacierema, Miner(1956) describes an aspect of the Nacierema culture from an etic
perspective, allowing readers to realize the Nacierema are Americans. From an etic eye, Americans
practice probably seems as strange to an outsider, as their culture is to ours. In American culture,
there is courtship and marriage. Courtship in

Animal Farm Book, Language Used as an Instrument of Social...
Paying particular attention to the character of Squealer, how is language used as an instrument of
social control? How do the pigs rewrite history?
In the book animal farm, Orwell very carefully created his characters in order to mimic certain
political figures of the time. In this case Squealer functioned as the propaganda department.
Squealer uses language to keep Napoleon in power. He uses language as a means to consolidate
power, in this light truth is an element that can be manipulated through language.
His use of language is designed to enhance the control that the pigs have over the rest of the farm.
When squealer uses language as his weapon he constantly puts particular spins on events and
conditions and he uses slogans and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This, together with Boxer s enormous strength, is what makes him a threat to the pigs; they
desperately need him for his enormous capacity for work and example but, if that strength were to
be turned against them because he unwittingly alerted the rest of the animals to their corruption,
then their regime would be finished.
This fact is why Boxer is viewed as a treat, despite being an ally napoleon ultimately took the first
chance he had to get rid of boxer, and why his eventual fate comes about. Napoleon took full
advantage of the disposal of Boxer and knew once he was gone the threat of Napoleon being over
thrown was banished, Because even if the animals tried to revolt or protest, he would be able to
take control with his almighty army of beast like dogs.
While the betrayal of Boxer is not, the true climax, one could indeed construe this event in such a
way that it legitimizes as an alternative climax. After all, the betrayal of Boxer is nearly equal in the
importance to the banishment of Snowball, politically speaking.
Of all of the Characters in Animal Farm, are there any who seem to represent the point of view of
the author? Which animals or people do you think come(s) closet to achieving Orwell s perspective

Essay Reflection of the Thought Police vs. Outer Party Game
During the Thought Police vs. Outer Party game, I learned the importance of the value of
independence and freedom. Previous to playing the game, I would consistently wear whatever I
wanted, I would carry my books whatever way I wanted to, and I was allowed to live my own
life. But the game gave me a new perspective, not only on Winston and his hardships, but on my
peers. While engaged in the game, due to the secrecy developed within the tension of ignorance, I
felt paranoid and oppressed. Because nobody knew what role everybody in the class played, there
were underlying tensions that lead to distrust. Personally, I could not trust anybody, not even my
closest friends in the class. I felt like I was always being watched. Being worried... Show more

Misconceptions Of NASA
One of the biggest misconceptions of NASA is the idea of a homogeneous organization. NASA is,
in fact, a conglomeration of different groups with various aims. Sometimes these groups can be at
odds with each other over various organizational resources. The nature of space operations split
these groups within NASAinto two general categories: the Human Destiny camp with human
spaceflight and colonization of space as the ultimate goal and the Science in Space camp focused
on using robotic spaceflight to perform space science.
Spaceflight has a difficulty holding public attention, but robotic spaceflight has a much more
difficult time compared to human spaceflight. Even now regardless of having no active capability

Gandhi Servant Leadership
In the contemporary world, the application of servant leadership by individuals and organizations
may be similar or vary significantly depending on the cultural and religious backgrounds. That is for
sure because the Western culture and Christianity execution of servant leadership may have
similarities or differences with other cultures and religious affiliations respectively. Primarily, the
global servant leader of interest in this discussion is Mahatma Gandhi, who demonstrates servant
leadershipthrough the humanitarian work he accomplished in his lifetime.
Despite the differences in cultural and religious backgrounds between the Western Culture and
Mahatma Gandhi s Indian culture, similarities in servant leadership execution are apparent. A case
in point of such similarity of servant leadership application is the humanistic aspect that both
Western Culture and Christian servant leaders, as well as Mahatma Gandhi, demonstrate in their
execution of servant leadership. That is for sure because Mahatma Gandhi invested in his followers

They weren t added to keyboards until the thirteenth century. Another instrument that was a prelude
to the piano was the pantaleon. It was created by Hebenstreit, a famous dulcimer player. It had 180
strings, was 9 feet long, had an extra soundboard, and had double faced hammers. It was extremely
hard to master. It was short lived, but was an important influence for the pianoforte. It also created
an important link between keyed and non keyed string instruments (Crombie 5 7).
In the fifteenth century, a keyed polychord was made called the clavichord. It was the first
keyboard in which the harder a note was struck, the louder a note would ring. It was fairly cheap
and it was very popular in central Europe, especially in Germany. Although people liked it, it was
not very loud. Since this was the case, the harpsichord was created. It was a much larger
clavichord creating a louder sound (Crombie 7 9). At last, the pianoforte was born. The pianoforte
means soft and loud. The name describes the sound of the instrument. It can be soft piano or loud
forte depending on how hard you hit the keys. Bartolomeo Cristofori created it in 1709. When he
became angry and was playing the harpsichord harder, he realized that the instrument didn t respond
and become louder. Since he wanted something that could do this, he invented the pianoforte, which

Analyzing Themes Throughout Edgar Allen Poe s Short Stories

Themes Throughout Edgar Allen Poe s Stories Edgar Allen Poe exhibits many different themes
throughout his poems and short stories, most readers see his stories as consistently and exclusively
putting death at the fore front in themes but there are countless other themes that Poe puts in his
stories and poems. These themes include love, uncertainty, subconscious self, nature, human
imagination, hope and despair so one can see that Poe is not as death oriented as many people
think and say he is. The first theme I will be focusing on in this evaluation is death, Poe wrote

In the story Telltale Heart the narrator for nights on end ponders in detail of how he will kill the
old man who is living in his house while trying to explain how he has not lost his own sanity this
depiction of the human imagination ties directly into Poe s theme of death because he not only
thinks about how he will kill he old man but inevitably kills the old man and hides him under the
floor boards of his home. Nature, this theme is an underlying one and is not easily picked out of
his stories yet the connection can still be made, in the short story The City in the Sea the city that
had once prospered inevitably gets destroyed and sinks to hell, this gives the reader the idea that
Poe does not like urbanized life and prefers nature. To support this idea, you can also make the
connection that many of the Protagonists in Poe s stories and poems wander around in forests and
other natural areas to discover something about their selves and have an epiphany you could call it
like in the story

Family Guy Racism
The corpus to be analyzed consists of the most controversial episodes of an internationally popular
and long running adult animation show called Family Guy. This show represents cultural attitudes
and embodies how the youth of today see themselves and others, as well as influencing viewers.
Some messages in this popular show, and others like it, underscore prejudices and racist attitudes in
our society, showcasing the discrimination that minorities and some ethnicities face. Furthermore,
these shows actually serve to strengthen existing prejudices, increasing these attitudes in viewers.
The target audience of Family Guyis primarily youth in their teens and young adults (it also slants

the turbine disc should have high strength even at elevated temperature. Specifically, the tensile
yield strength should be high enough to withstand centrifugal stress developed by disc and axial
loading by blades and the fatigue strength should be high enough to withstand high stress and
low cycle fatigue. In addition to LCF concern, materials for modern turbine disc were driven by
commercial constraints like lower component cost, life cycle and maintenance cost. Materials
like wasploy, Cr Mo Vo alloys, A 286 alloys were used earlier but they have low yield and fatigue
strength at higher temperature. Inorder to compensate these demands Ni based super alloys
Udimet 720 and Inconel 718 are used. These alloys offer efficient compromise between
performance and economics. The key properties of Ni based super alloys are: 1. They have high
stiffness and tensile yield strength at higher temperature to ensure accurate blade location and
resistance to over speed burst failure. 2. They are resistant to high temperature oxidation and hot
corrosion attack. 3. They also have the ability to withstand fretting damage at mechanical fitting. 4.

Movie Summary Of The Movie Black Hawk Down
Movie Summary
The movie Black Hawk Down is based on a true story. It takes place in Somalia in October of
1993. A warlord by the name of Mohamed Farrah Aidid seized control of Mogadishu, the capital
city of Somalia. He accomplished this by capturing shipments of international food supplies at the
ports and used hunger as his weapon. More than 300,000 Somalians died by starvation. The United
States responded by sending in Delta Force, U.S. Army Rangers, and the 160TH Special
Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) to capture Mohamed. It was a mission that was to only last
three weeks but, turned into six weeks. General Garrison, commanding general of the U.S. forces,
formulated a plan to capture two high value targets to try and draw ... Show more content on

You can see how SSG Eversmen does not agree with the answer they got. His reaction brought
forth the principle of utility also known as the greatest happiness principle. This principle states,
when choosing a course of action, always pick the one that will maximize happiness and minimize
unhappiness for the greatest number of people (Rosenstand, p.232). In SSG Eversmen s eyes,
intervening would have maximized the happiness of those starving by allowing them to get to eat
and saving them from getting shot.
Another moral issue that appears is during a conversation between Staff Sergeant Eversmen and a
few of his brothers in arms. The platoon s lieutenant is reading a book about Somalian culture and
is laughing about some of the things he is reading. One of the sergeants tells the lieutenant that
Staff Sergeant Eversmen likes the Somalian people. Staff Sergeant Eversmen explains it s not a
matter of liking them or not liking them, he is just trying to better understand them. This points out
one of the six problems of ethical relativism. The problem is not criticizing or praising cultures. In
other words, we have no right to criticize other cultures, period (Rosenstand, p.131). Staff Sergeant
Eversmen was trying to be understanding of not just the Somalian culture, but also, the civil war
they were in the middle of.
A final moral issue happens when one of Staff Sergeant Eversmen s good friends, Sergeant Smith,
gets shot. The wound caused by the bullet

The Declaration Of Rights And Grievances
By 1765, at a Stamp Act Congress, all but four colonies were represented as the Declaration of
Rights and Grievances was passed. They were determined to let Parliament know that they were
equal to British citizens, that there would be no taxation without representation, and all efforts to
stop tax on colonists would continue (Kennedy, etal 2011.) Although Lord Rockingham, the
predecessor of Grenville, sought to repeal of the Stamp Act, this in no way meant Parliament was
conceding their control. In fact, while the Stamp Act was repealed, another called the Declaratory
Act of 1766, gave Parliament the authority to make laws binding the American Colonies, in all
cases whatsoever. In 1767, George III passed the Townshend Acts to collect tax on glass, lead,
paints, paper and, tea. Recognizing that tea was a favorite among the Americans, it ensured greater
revenue the British government. Again, the colonists rights for representation were ignored and
they started to boycott British goods and ultimately, smuggle tea. When the Quartering Act was
passed, which specified that colonists were to give room and board to British troops, tension began
to rise. For two years, the colonists tolerated British troops on their soil and their dissatisfaction
with the British Parliament and King George III became evident through many violent riots,
abusiveness of tax collectors and destruction of property. According to Kennedy, etal (2011),
Parliament, continually met with

The Road Of The Trail Of Tears
The Trail of Tears has been one of the most controversial government sponsored events in
American History. Was America justified in destroying a culture in its pursuit of Manifest Destiny,
or did they feel it was their only option in this matter at the time? Based on research, I feel that the
American policy of Indian removal and relocation was extremely unethical and unjustified in its
motives and execution. Before Europeans arrived in present day America, the Native Americans
were living on millions of acres of land their ancestors had occupied and cultivated. Many Native
Americans were initially somewhat willing to share land with original settlers. However, when
settlers began taking land that already belonged to the Natives,... Show more content on

Cherokee Indians and some Choctaw Indians attempted to follow these guide lines and blend in
with Americans, sending their children to schools and some even started to own slaves. Even
though many Cherokee and Choctaw Indians tried to assimilate with the American culture, they
were still forced out of their homeland and were rarely truly accepted by the white population as
anything other than tamer savages.
Despite the Native s attempts to conform to society, they were still discriminated against, losing
their land, homes, and property. As white settlers began to realize the value of the Native s land,
many began to encroach west after the Louisiana Purchase. Settler s wished to use the land for
plantations and farms. As the desire and need for more land grew, the state governments began to
realize the futility of trying to contain the settlers attitude of Manifest Destiny and they soon joined
in making laws that would limit the rights of the Native Americans. The Supreme Court attempted
to stop this harsh treatment of the Natives, but were ultimately ignored as the harsh treatment
continued. Southern states were determined to have the Native s land for their own and they felt
this was reinforced

Joseph Stalin And Vladimir Putin
Over the last century, Russia has been led by two of its most dominant and imperious leaders:
Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Putin. Although similar in several ways, these two leaders have many
differences as well.
Joseph Stalin was an imperious and domineering dictator of Russia from 1929 to 1953. Following
Lenin s death, Stalin moved up in the ranks in the communist party, outflanked his fellow party
men, and subsequently seized leadership of the Soviet Union. He then established a totalitarian
communist system of government and utilized terror tactics in order to ensure that his laws were
followed while his rule remained unchallenged. Stalin employed secret police to spy on citizens
and urged citizens to spy on each other. Additionally, he enforced freedomless press and speech;
violators of his laws were sent to Gulags, labor camps .
After promises to build Russia into a strong market economy and to end corruption, Vladimir
Putin was elected as president of Russia in 2000, was re elected in 2004, and was re elected once
again in 2012 . However, there is much skepticism about the legitimacy and impartiality of the 2004
and 2012 elections. Experts state that Getting the necessary fifty percent to avoid a runoff would
have been impossible without rigging the elections.
From a young age, Stalin was reared to be devout in the Greek Orthodox Church in accord with his
parents wish for him to become a priest; however, in the typical iconoclastic manner, when he ruled

The Importance Of Computers And Technology
Computers and technology has evolved over the years and has come useful but there are many
reason that contract the good. Due to all this technology changed over the time, you can see that
human interaction has stopped and it has failed to fill our needs of education. What I mean by this
is that we are really not being educated but take what others put online and automatically believe it
is right. Instead of researching and making your own conclusion. Another reason to why computers
and technology is not good for society is because it has become very dangerous and harmful in
many ways.
Due to the growth and expansion of technology, on a daily basis now you can see less human
interaction compared to when we barely had any type of technology. A great example of this we
you go out to eat now, you usually see families and couples that are the tables on their phones.
When they can be talking communicating with each other and some even just text each other being
at the same table even though can say whatever they have to say right there. There was a study
done in 2012, in fact, scientists at the Chinese Academy of Sciences found that the brain chemicals
of people who habitually used the Internet (and were perhaps addicted to it) had abnormal
connections between the nerve fibers in their brain (CNBC News). We are becoming very addicted
to technology because now we can not live without them. It has caused us, not to use our brain to
think but allowing someone or a device to do

Essay on Shinto Faith
Shintoism is an ancient religion that originated in Japanese culture. Shinto is a general term for
the activities of the people of Japanese descent to worship all the deities of heaven and earth,
and at the end of the 6th century the Japanese were conscious of these activities and called them
the Way of Kami (the deity or the deities) . The practice of Shintoism finally recognized when
Yomei, the 31st Emperor of Japan, prayed before an image of Buddha for the first time as an
emperor for recovery of his illness. Then Yomei accepted Buddhism, a foreign religion, the
Japanese realized existence of a tradition of their own faith.
The Shinto faith is based on Japanese mythology. One of the most important mythological stories in

The form of the Shinto rituals is considered to be established at this time including Haraekotoba. In
this Haraekotoba, which was chanted for a purification ceremony at that time and is still chanted,
the sins are listed and they are categorized into two: Amatsu Tsumi and Kunitsu Tsumi. At this
time, Ritsu (or the criminal law) were established under the influence of the Chinese Law of the
Tang Age. It is convenient to see these laws in order to look at the Shinto concept of the sin and
those sins, which were prohibited by the secular laws. The gravest sin called Amatsu Tusmi
described in the Oharae is those deeds, which were committed by Susanowo no Mikoto, the brother
deity of Amaterasu Ohmikami, the supreme Kami. According to the myth, he was so rejoiced by
being able to prove that he had no ill feeling against his sister deity, Amaterasu Ohmikami, that he
committed vulgarity such as destroying the paddy fields of Amaterasu Ohmikami to have crop
for Niinamesai (Rice crop rite), the weaving shop where the cloths for the deities were woven and
also several other violent mischievous deeds. It means that all these deeds were against divine
festivals. It is described in the myth that because of these vulgarities, a part of Susanowo s assets
was taken away from him and purged from Heaven. According to the Ritsu, these deeds correspond
to the sixth sin,

The four groups of crocodilians are alligators, caimans,...
The four groups of crocodilians are alligators, caimans, gharials, and crocodiles.
What are main characteristics of crocodilian habitats?
Watery habitats such as lakes and rivers
Prefer freshwater habitats
American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis)
Lives in freshwater swamps and marshes, and also in rivers and lakes. They can tolerate a little
bit of salt but prefer fresh water. They can tolerate freezing weather for short periods of time but
are better off in warmer weather. To live better in this weather, the alligatorbuilds burrows to hide
from the weather.
Nile Crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus)
Because they have dispersed into many different habitats, they have developed adaptations to live
in different types of places, such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From studying modern crocodilians we can make inferences/draw conclusions about SuperCroc that
can confirm a scientist s hypothesis. For example, both SuperCroc and the gharial have a bulla, and
from the modern day gharial, scientists inferred that the SuperCroc used its bulla for making noises.
g. What can SuperCroc fossils teach us about modern crocodilians?
These fossils can show us more about the family tree of modern crocodilians and how they evolved.
For modern species: habitat, geographical distribution, diet, appearance, size, and other behaviors
Indian Gharial
Habitat: Gharials live in rivers. They especially like calm areas of deep rivers. They like to gather
on the sandbanks of the rivers to bask and to nest, but mostly they don t go onto dry land because
they can t lift their bodies off of the ground.
Geographical Distribution: Indian Gharials live in India and Nepal. It is possible that they lived
historically in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, and Myanmar.
Diet: Adult gharials eat exclusively fish, although young will also eat small insects and frogs. The
gharial s snout is thin so that it can move through the water easily, and their teeth are good for
holding on to the fish even if it is struggling.
Appearance: The gharial has a unique long, thin snout. Males have a bulbous growth on their snouts
that is used during courtship. They have sharp teeth that interlock. Males are about 5 meters long
(about 16 feet). Because of the type of

One organization, Habitat for Humanities, has made ownership a possibility for anyone who desires to have it. For years people have been searching for a less expensive way to begin their journey out of their predicament of not having their own place to lay their head. Nothing can ever come without hard work though; to become a candidate for owning a home, people have to go through numerous classes and engage sweat equity . This organization has changed the lives of over a million families in over 1,400 bases internationally. Where this great organization came from is the real question. The answer, an idea; before the idea came a feeling or motion that one person felt they should act on. • 3. Down With The Death Penalty Nick Cooper Jason Johnson English III 8/3/15 Down with the Death Penalty Introduction Life is a precious thing. This is something that the majority of people can agree on. It s for this reason that taking someone s life is one of the most if not the most disgraceful of crimes. Murder is a crime deserving of the harshest punishment available at the hands of the criminal justice system. This brings us to one of the most debated upon issues of today. Is taking the life of one who has taken the life of others an acceptable punishment? When making your decision think about this question; Is the life of the murderer worth any less than the victim s life? Is the death penalty in any form morally justifiable in today s society? The underlying question would be is any kind of killing acceptable, regardless of what the motive behind it is. I personally don t believe that it is an acceptable punishment no matter what the crime. I see it as becoming somewhat like the monsters that we strive to put behind bars. Thesis In regards to the death penalty, it is my belief that life without parole is better for several reasons. I m against the death penalty not for the benefit of the criminals but because it doesn t reduce crime rates, it lengthens the agony experienced by the families of the victims, costs considerably more than life in prison, and, most importantly, risks the deaths of many innocent people. The death penalty ends up being a more tedious process than sentencing someone to life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Somehow, he always tends to drag my sisters and me along on his crazy journeys through life. Which is great most of the time, but not so great some of the time. My father and all seven of his siblings had this grand idea to go on a cruise to the beautiful Caribbean Islands. Of course, my sisters and I liked the idea of this journey. Nervously, I got buckled up and ready to rise into the warm Caribbean air. My stomach started to stir inside me. Feeling like I could have vomited at any minute, I became very pale. Breann, who is my twenty year old sister, said, Don t worry. It will be fun and you will never have this experience again. You just need to be brave. I quietly replied, Okay. I will be okay. I can do this. Let s go! I indeed had a marvelous day. I experienced something I never have before. My feet dangled in the open air like ornaments on a lit christmas tree. They suddenly became tense and tight. The clear blue sea below me sparkled like a giant crystal chandelier. Covered with tourists, the busy beach looked like an anthill. The sun was a golden ball. The time period is the winter of 1823, a popular time for the American Frontier. Many of the scenes in the movie show extreme cold and lots of snow. For example, when Hugh Glass is wounded and running from an Indian Tribe on a horse, he jumps off a cliff with the horse. He then precedes to open the horse and gut it. Punk Rock, in its subculture, managed to break down many barriers of expression and language. It made an indentation in the commercial music industry. It provided a fresh alternative to a boring, stagnant musicscene. But most of all, punk s legacy lies in its introduction of self employment and activism, most essential to Britain at the time. It illustrated that anyone can do it themselves, without reliance on the commercial media or the luxury of having financial abundance. • 11. The Growth Of Internet Coupled With The Rise Of Multimedia... Abstract. The growth of internet coupled with the rise in networked infrastructure has resulted in exponential increase in the multimedia content being shared over the communication networks. The advancement in technology has resulted in increase in multimedia piracy. This is due to the fact that it is very easy to copy, duplicate and distributes multimedia content using current day technology. In such a scenario Digital Rights Management is one of the prominent issues to be dealt with and tremendous work is going on in this direction round the globe. Digital watermarking and fingerprinting have emerged as fundamental technologies to cater to DRM issues. These technologies have been found to be of prominent use in content authentication, copy protection, copyright control, broadcast monitoring and forensic applications. Various requirements of a digital watermarking system include Imperceptibility, Robustness, Security, Payload and Computational complexity. The main requirement of real time DRM systems is lesser computational complexity and high robustness. This chapter proposes and analyses a robust and computational efficient Image watermarking technique in spatial domain based on Inter Block Pixel Difference (IBPD). The cover image is divided into 8Г—8 non overlapping blocks and difference between intensities of two pixels of adjacent blocks at predefined positions is calculated. Depending upon the watermarkbit to be embedded; both the pixels are modified to bring the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Coal slurry, a waste left after washing and processing coal with water and chemicals, also gets into to their drinking supply and extremely dangerous because it is highly toxic and it can leach into groundwater. Furthermore, On August 20, 2004, a bulldozer pushed a boulder weighing half a ton from a mountaintop removal site in Appalachia, Virginia. The falling boulder crashed into the side of a residence, crushing 3 year old Jeremy Davidson in his sleep. • 13. Analysis Of August Wilson s Fences In today s society people have to deal with several issues that we can t explain. For some of us we built fences to isolate ourselves from others or in some cases to protect ourselves. No matter what the issue is we, all have to struggle to be able to provide for our families. As a child I built fences when it came to my feelings. For example, growing up I was in the chunky side. Since I wasnt so skinny like the pretty girls in my class. I kinda isolated my self from the other students. That way my feelings wouldn t get hurt. My fence was to protect me from what I thought was going to hurt me. Well the same thing happened to Troy Maxson. In the play, Fences written by the well known playwright, August Wilson, is the story of Troy Maxson and his beloved family. Throughout the whole entire play, a fence is being built around the Maxson household. As the story unfolds to the viewers, the word fences may look like a simple title, but the truth is it has different symbolic meaning. The real definition of the word fence is revealed along with the personalities of the characters in the play. In Fences , August Wilson uses different types of fences as a metaphor to explain how these people live. Our play takes place during the year 1957. During the mid 1950s, America was still experiencing a post World War II, economic boom, and of course allowing foreign affairs to take action when dealing with domestic issues. There are many reasons to help prevent or stop these natural disasters. These solutions are available because of the fact that we have a lot more people than we need to help prevent or stop these natural disasters. Out breaks of minimum wage, sexualities, gender, and even your skin color affects what diversity a business would want. Within the business, the professional level is set pretty high due to the superior designers making us able to dress well fashioned. When people step into a businessthey do not want someone that is going to walk in with a t shirt and gym shorts, they would rather them be in dress pants and a nice dress shirt with fashionable shoe wear. It does not have to be the top notch designer clothing, just something which doesn t scream I just woke up from bed. The thing which is being most talked about these days is diversity. People who are African American, white, Hispanic, gay, lesbian, bisexual, male, or even female could feel unwanted at a higher end business. The more people are expanding their personalities and how much they want to be shown that anyone could do anything just as much as the next man is outrageous. Workplace diversity is becoming more intense as the years continue on and it is important to employers and employees for a number of reasons, a few of them being that it would gain mutual respect with everyone, conflict resolution would not be as much of an issue, and lastly the increased exposure due to all of the workplace diversity. How Did Johannes Veermeer Use Of Visual Realism Two artists in history are widely known for their abilities to depict scenes in such realistic manners that you would never know they are actually paintings. These two artists were named Albert Bierstadt and Johannes Vermeer. Both men came from different times and different ethnic settings. Dutchman, Johannes Vermeer was born in the year 1632 and passed away tragically in 1675. Over his lifetime Vermeer put his soul into his paintings, causing modern day historians and art lovers to struggle to figure out how he painted such realistic scenes. In the case of Vermeer, his paintings The Music Lesson and The Concert both focus on individuals comfortable in their everyday settings during the 1600 s. The emotions that are given off to the viewers through the use of realism through the topics in both of the paintings, would be respectful and understanding. However, in The Music Lesson, Vermeer added a sense of warmth and gentleness to the individuals painted through added help of color perspective with the clothing and objects surrounding them being much more vibrant. In The Concert, Vermeer added a sense of warmth through color perspective with only a small ray of light shining on the women, while leaving the man darker to invoke a sense of focus on his activities. Focusing still on color, another tool Vermeer used to create a sense of visual realism was the use of shading. Shading is another pictorial depth cue that allows for a painter to create a three dimensional appearance to a two dimensional painting through the use of darker colors for the shadows of objects. In The Music Lesson, one of the most obvious uses of shading appears with the use of a shadow behind the painting above the piano, caused by the painting hanging forward. Another example of where shading was used, was with the shadows from the legs of the piano itself on the wall. In The Concert, Vermeer uses shading in a more subtle manner with the most obvious use of shading being the shadow cast from the painting hanging on the wall. The subtlest use of shading would be the shadows that appear on the individuals clothing caused by the folds of the material and objects preventing light from reaching the cloth. Vermeer also used the pictorial depth cues of linear perspective and size perspective which focus on framing the painting in real world size and creating a vanishing point. In The Concert, linear ... The writer chose the give the information step by step, and it was quite boring reading twelve pages of concatenated data along with some quotes. I believe that using repetitions was the most effective one because it helped creating a dramatic punch while giving the message to the audience. • 20. Determinism And Free-Will In this essay I will be addressing whether or not human beings are morally responsible for their actions. For one to be morally responsible for his/her action they must take into account that the decision being made was from their own free will. Leading us now to whether human beings have free will or is it determined. If we were to say determinismis true, then no individual should be praised or punished for their actions due to the fact it was not based on their own free action. If free will applies, he/she who commits an act practicing their own free will deserves to be praised or punished for such an act. Stace defines free act as free acts are all caused by desire, motives, or by some sort of psychological state of the agent s mind . Unfree acts on the other hand are those whose immediate causes are states of affairs external to the agent . Soft determinism is the view that determinism and free will are compatible. During the flight they had a clear view of the devastating effects of cholera, as there were bodies strew in the streets of the villages below. While observing these scenes, Fermina couldn t help but feel as though she had been there before with her mother at a very young age. This is the first mention of Fermina s mother and it seems clear that she misses her and loved her dearly. Fermina wished to return to her birthplace ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of the novel s protagonists are growing older and showing signs of age and none of them like it. Dr. Urbino began noticing all of the symptoms that his older patients complain about, such as insomnia and flare ups of pain, making an appearance in himself. When Dr. Urbino came to retrieve Fermina from her cousin s, she feared that she looked so old and ugly...that he would regret having come when he saw her like this (254). Florentino s increasing age is highlighted by baldness that bothers him greatly and false teeth that don t faze him at all. Fermina has aged the most because the affair and subsequent events took a huge toll on her. When she returns from her second trip to San Juan de la Cienaga, Florentino notes that Fermina s hair was graying, her eyes had lost some of their sparkle, and concluded that the last two years had been as hard on her as ten difficult ones (256). The passage of time is noticeable in Dr. Urbino and Fermina thought the general characteristics of old age that they begin showing. For Florentino, the passage of time is recognized in the imperceptible changes he discerned in Fermina Daza each time her saw her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Material Selection For Disc 3.1 Material Selection for Disc A turbine disc rotates at high angular velocity and operates at higher temperature. High angular velocity induces higher centrifugal stress and high temperature gradient induces higher thermal stress. This operating condition demands that material used for the turbine disc should have high strength even at elevated temperature. Specifically, the tensile yield strength should be high enough to withstand centrifugal stress developed by disc and axial loading by blades and the fatigue strength should be high enough to withstand high stress and low cycle fatigue. In addition to LCF concern, materials for modern turbine disc were driven by commercial constraints like lower component cost, life cycle and maintenance cost. Materials like wasploy, Cr Mo Vo alloys, A 286 alloys were used earlier but they have low yield and fatigue strength at higher temperature. Inorder to compensate these demands Ni based super alloys Udimet 720 and Inconel 718 are used. These alloys offer efficient compromise between performance and economics. The key properties of Ni based super alloys are: 1. They have high stiffness and tensile yield strength at higher temperature to ensure accurate blade location and resistance to over speed burst failure. 2. They are resistant to high temperature oxidation and hot corrosion attack. 3. They also have the ability to withstand fretting damage at mechanical fitting. 4. Creep strength to avoid distortion and crack ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Movie Summary Of The Movie Black Hawk Down Movie Summary The movie Black Hawk Down is based on a true story. It takes place in Somalia in October of 1993. A warlord by the name of Mohamed Farrah Aidid seized control of Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia. He accomplished this by capturing shipments of international food supplies at the ports and used hunger as his weapon. More than 300,000 Somalians died by starvation. The United States responded by sending in Delta Force, U.S. Army Rangers, and the 160TH Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) to capture Mohamed. It was a mission that was to only last three weeks but, turned into six weeks. General Garrison, commanding general of the U.S. forces, formulated a plan to capture two high value targets to try and draw ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You can see how SSG Eversmen does not agree with the answer they got. His reaction brought forth the principle of utility also known as the greatest happiness principle. This principle states, when choosing a course of action, always pick the one that will maximize happiness and minimize unhappiness for the greatest number of people (Rosenstand, p.232). In SSG Eversmen s eyes, intervening would have maximized the happiness of those starving by allowing them to get to eat and saving them from getting shot. Another moral issue that appears is during a conversation between Staff Sergeant Eversmen and a few of his brothers in arms. The platoon s lieutenant is reading a book about Somalian culture and is laughing about some of the things he is reading. One of the sergeants tells the lieutenant that Staff Sergeant Eversmen likes the Somalian people. Staff Sergeant Eversmen explains it s not a matter of liking them or not liking them, he is just trying to better understand them. This points out one of the six problems of ethical relativism. The problem is not criticizing or praising cultures. In other words, we have no right to criticize other cultures, period (Rosenstand, p.131). Staff Sergeant Eversmen was trying to be understanding of not just the Somalian culture, but also, the civil war they were in the middle of. A final moral issue happens when one of Staff Sergeant Eversmen s good friends, Sergeant Smith, gets shot. The wound caused by the bullet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Declaration Of Rights And Grievances By 1765, at a Stamp Act Congress, all but four colonies were represented as the Declaration of Rights and Grievances was passed. They were determined to let Parliament know that they were equal to British citizens, that there would be no taxation without representation, and all efforts to stop tax on colonists would continue (Kennedy, etal 2011.) Although Lord Rockingham, the predecessor of Grenville, sought to repeal of the Stamp Act, this in no way meant Parliament was conceding their control. In fact, while the Stamp Act was repealed, another called the Declaratory Act of 1766, gave Parliament the authority to make laws binding the American Colonies, in all cases whatsoever. In 1767, George III passed the Townshend Acts to collect tax on glass, lead, paints, paper and, tea. Recognizing that tea was a favorite among the Americans, it ensured greater revenue the British government. Again, the colonists rights for representation were ignored and they started to boycott British goods and ultimately, smuggle tea. When the Quartering Act was passed, which specified that colonists were to give room and board to British troops, tension began to rise. For two years, the colonists tolerated British troops on their soil and their dissatisfaction with the British Parliament and King George III became evident through many violent riots, abusiveness of tax collectors and destruction of property. According to Kennedy, etal (2011), Parliament, continually met with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Road Of The Trail Of Tears The Trail of Tears has been one of the most controversial government sponsored events in American History. Was America justified in destroying a culture in its pursuit of Manifest Destiny, or did they feel it was their only option in this matter at the time? Based on research, I feel that the American policy of Indian removal and relocation was extremely unethical and unjustified in its motives and execution. Before Europeans arrived in present day America, the Native Americans were living on millions of acres of land their ancestors had occupied and cultivated. Many Native Americans were initially somewhat willing to share land with original settlers. However, when settlers began taking land that already belonged to the Natives,... Cherokee Indians and some Choctaw Indians attempted to follow these guide lines and blend in with Americans, sending their children to schools and some even started to own slaves. Even though many Cherokee and Choctaw Indians tried to assimilate with the American culture, they were still forced out of their homeland and were rarely truly accepted by the white population as anything other than tamer savages. Despite the Native s attempts to conform to society, they were still discriminated against, losing their land, homes, and property. As white settlers began to realize the value of the Native s land, many began to encroach west after the Louisiana Purchase. Settler s wished to use the land for plantations and farms. As the desire and need for more land grew, the state governments began to realize the futility of trying to contain the settlers attitude of Manifest Destiny and they soon joined in making laws that would limit the rights of the Native Americans. The Supreme Court attempted to stop this harsh treatment of the Natives, but were ultimately ignored as the harsh treatment continued. Southern states were determined to have the Native s land for their own and they felt this was reinforced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Joseph Stalin And Vladimir Putin Over the last century, Russia has been led by two of its most dominant and imperious leaders: Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Putin. Although similar in several ways, these two leaders have many differences as well. Joseph Stalin was an imperious and domineering dictator of Russia from 1929 to 1953. Following Lenin s death, Stalin moved up in the ranks in the communist party, outflanked his fellow party men, and subsequently seized leadership of the Soviet Union. He then established a totalitarian communist system of government and utilized terror tactics in order to ensure that his laws were followed while his rule remained unchallenged. Stalin employed secret police to spy on citizens and urged citizens to spy on each other. Additionally, he enforced freedomless press and speech; violators of his laws were sent to Gulags, labor camps . After promises to build Russia into a strong market economy and to end corruption, Vladimir Putin was elected as president of Russia in 2000, was re elected in 2004, and was re elected once again in 2012 . However, there is much skepticism about the legitimacy and impartiality of the 2004 and 2012 elections. Experts state that Getting the necessary fifty percent to avoid a runoff would have been impossible without rigging the elections. From a young age, Stalin was reared to be devout in the Greek Orthodox Church in accord with his parents wish for him to become a priest; however, in the typical iconoclastic manner, when he ruled over ... • 45. The Importance Of Computers And Technology Computers and technology has evolved over the years and has come useful but there are many reason that contract the good. Due to all this technology changed over the time, you can see that human interaction has stopped and it has failed to fill our needs of education. What I mean by this is that we are really not being educated but take what others put online and automatically believe it is right. Instead of researching and making your own conclusion. Another reason to why computers and technology is not good for society is because it has become very dangerous and harmful in many ways. Due to the growth and expansion of technology, on a daily basis now you can see less human interaction compared to when we barely had any type of technology. A great example of this we you go out to eat now, you usually see families and couples that are the tables on their phones. When they can be talking communicating with each other and some even just text each other being at the same table even though can say whatever they have to say right there. There was a study done in 2012, in fact, scientists at the Chinese Academy of Sciences found that the brain chemicals of people who habitually used the Internet (and were perhaps addicted to it) had abnormal connections between the nerve fibers in their brain (CNBC News). We are becoming very addicted to technology because now we can not live without them. It has caused us, not to use our brain to think but allowing someone or a device to do ... • 46. Essay on Shinto Faith Shintoism is an ancient religion that originated in Japanese culture. Shinto is a general term for the activities of the people of Japanese descent to worship all the deities of heaven and earth, and at the end of the 6th century the Japanese were conscious of these activities and called them the Way of Kami (the deity or the deities) . The practice of Shintoism finally recognized when Yomei, the 31st Emperor of Japan, prayed before an image of Buddha for the first time as an emperor for recovery of his illness. Then Yomei accepted Buddhism, a foreign religion, the Japanese realized existence of a tradition of their own faith. The Shinto faith is based on Japanese mythology. In this Haraekotoba, which was chanted for a purification ceremony at that time and is still chanted, the sins are listed and they are categorized into two: Amatsu Tsumi and Kunitsu Tsumi. At this time, Ritsu (or the criminal law) were established under the influence of the Chinese Law of the Tang Age. It is convenient to see these laws in order to look at the Shinto concept of the sin and those sins, which were prohibited by the secular laws. The gravest sin called Amatsu Tusmi described in the Oharae is those deeds, which were committed by Susanowo no Mikoto, the brother deity of Amaterasu Ohmikami, the supreme Kami. According to the myth, he was so rejoiced by being able to prove that he had no ill feeling against his sister deity, Amaterasu Ohmikami, that he committed vulgarity such as destroying the paddy fields of Amaterasu Ohmikami to have crop for Niinamesai (Rice crop rite), the weaving shop where the cloths for the deities were woven and also several other violent mischievous deeds. It means that all these deeds were against divine festivals. It is described in the myth that because of these vulgarities, a part of Susanowo s assets was taken away from him and purged from Heaven. • 47. The four groups of crocodilians are alligators, caimans,... The four groups of crocodilians are alligators, caimans, gharials, and crocodiles. What are main characteristics of crocodilian habitats? Watery habitats such as lakes and rivers Prefer freshwater habitats American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) Lives in freshwater swamps and marshes, and also in rivers and lakes. They can tolerate a little bit of salt but prefer fresh water. They can tolerate freezing weather for short periods of time but are better off in warmer weather. To live better in this weather, the alligatorbuilds burrows to hide from the weather. For example, both SuperCroc and the gharial have a bulla, and from the modern day gharial, scientists inferred that the SuperCroc used its bulla for making noises. g. What can SuperCroc fossils teach us about modern crocodilians? These fossils can show us more about the family tree of modern crocodilians and how they evolved. For modern species: habitat, geographical distribution, diet, appearance, size, and other behaviors Indian Gharial Habitat: Gharials live in rivers. They especially like calm areas of deep rivers. They like to gather on the sandbanks of the rivers to bask and to nest, but mostly they don t go onto dry land because they can t lift their bodies off of the ground. Geographical Distribution: Indian Gharials live in India and Nepal. It is possible that they lived historically in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, and Myanmar. Diet: Adult gharials eat exclusively fish, although young will also eat small insects and frogs. The gharial s snout is thin so that it can move through the water easily, and their teeth are good for holding on to the fish even if it is struggling. Appearance: The gharial has a unique long, thin snout. Males have a bulbous growth on their snouts that is used during courtship. They have sharp teeth that interlock. Males are about 5 meters long (about 16 feet). Because of the type of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
