Importance Of The Northern Renaissance
Mainly, the Northern Renaissance happened in regions of Eastern Europe. Throughout that time,
there was an importance on the lives of peasants. A significant importance was put on living a
simple life. As a result, artists like Pieter Bruegel the Elder did paintings such as Haymaking. It
showed regular peasants conducting out their usual day to day duties. Remember that the Northern
Renaissancecame in later.
The Italian Renaissance, its importance was more towards the wealthy class that were the
aristocrats. Paintings were enhanced, detailed, and revealed how rich and powerful people were.
Due to a lot of commerce that was going on throughout the time of the Italian Renaissance, mainly
in the Mediterranean. As a result, people were turning

Roller Coasters Research Paper
Introduction Life is like a roller coaster. If you don t get on you can t experience the adventure.
Mariah Carey. Riding roller coasters is different for everyone, it can be a very exhilarating
experience, but for others not so much. The first time I went on a roller coaster with a loop, I
learned that I am definitely not made for roller coasters. It was a bright sunny day, the sun was
shining through my hotel window. I got up and stretched my arms and yawned very loudly. My
mom was already up and down at the breakfast buffet. I got dressed, brushed my teeth and hair,
and took the elevator down to the buffet. My brother, being him, was obviously still asleep. He
eventually met us down at the buffet. As soon as we had finished our breakfast, we were already at
Disneyland having fun. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Come on Daryn! , yelled my brother and mom.
Fine , I said as I walked over to my family. We all walked over to the California Screamin ride.
Daryn, let s go on this ride! , my brother screeched.
Uh, ok , I said. I was wearing a wristband that the staff at Disneyland would have to scan in order to
ride the roller coaster. I walked up to scan my wristband, All set , the man who was scanning
wristbands said. We were in line for a while, then it was our turn. When I got on my seat, all I
could look at was the loop. The instructor was talking about safety, but all I heard was, Blah blah
blah . My eye s were still looking at the loop, I could not pay attention to anything.
What have I got myself into!? , I said to myself.
Whoosh! The roller coaster took off.
AHH , I screamed.
The roller coaster went up and down then, it was time... As we approached the loop my legs
literally started their yearly hibernation. We were finally at the loop. My eyes slowly started to shut
as if someone had turned the lights out.
Turn the lights back on please! I said to

Essay about How Pixar Fosters Collective Creativity
в—Џ Pixar relies heavily on intrinsic motivation to motivate and inspire its employees, which is
particularly important given the poor measurability of success before the film is released. It
achieves high levels of intrinsic motivation through:
в—‹ Meaningfulness Skill variety is increased through Pixar University. By allowing staff to
participate in the production discussions, it leads to task identity of their contribution to the whole
project.
в—‹ Responsibility Autonomy is high: Incubation teams are responsible for operational decisions,
while the brain trust only gives suggestions. Decentralization achieves increased individual
autonomy, responsiveness to changing situations, and variety of ideas.

(2) (a) We disagree with Catmull s conclusion in the above quote. We believe it is an
overgeneralization and exemplifies the Fundamental Attribution Error.
While team dynamics and cohesion play a great role in the success of any team, we believe that
external factors (situation, system) can profoundly affect behavior and performance. The
importance of creating an environment that supports great people and encourages them to support
one another so the whole is far greater than the sum of the parts is undermined by this statement.
Even a great team can t be guaranteed to fix a mediocre idea or come up with good ones every
time. The system/environment have a big role in the success of a team.
(b) While we don t agree that Catmull s statement applies to all systems, we agree with his thought
process. In hindsight, he observed that both teams were operating in the same external
пїјпїј
environment and one team was able to thrive better than the other in the same environment. During
the production of Toy Story 2, he noticed that the new team was not performing well, failing to
meet deadlines, and not improving. The directors and producers were not pulling together to rise to
the challenge. Even though the individuals in the team were stars, the team was not working

Billy Bunning Case Study
Kia Parsons and Billy Bunning were to get married soon. In their first compromise, the two had to
find a mutually satisfying decision on their wedding cake. The wedding cake can be one of the
most important decisions of the wedding. It s used during the traditional cutting of the cake
ceremony where the couple completes their first task together as newlyweds.
Brides are becoming more in favor of providing a space for the groom to express himself in the
wedding cake toppers and decorations. A groom doesn t have to settle for a groom cake on the
side. He can take part in the decision to have a beautiful cake or one more in line with his style like

The Role Of Violence In The White Tiger By Aravind Adiga
It cannot fairly be said that in Aravind Adiga s novel, The White Tiger, the only way to escape
the Darkness and advance in society is through violence, as an alternative route to the Light is
presented in the story arc of Vijay, the pig herder s son turned politician. Balram asserts that the
murder of Ashok is not only the direct cause of his new wealth and status, but also the only
possible trigger for his newfound social mobility. Yet, this is contradicted earlier in the story
when he presents Vijay, the bus driver, as his role model for a successful person. Vijay, in order
to achieve his elevated position, resorted to prostitution; despite not being a desirable alternative
to violence, it is an alternative all the same and therefore violence is not the only way to escape
the Darkness. Following this logic, it is Balram s story and the immediate increase in wealth that
results from the murder of Ashok that best supports violence as the only means of moving into the
Light, and Vijay s story is the best evidence against that point of view.
Although Balram argues that violence is his only way of overcoming the poverty he is born into,
Vijay, a manborn into status even lower than Balram s, achieves power and wealth without
resorting to violence. Initially Balram presents Vijay as his role model, condoning the rumors of
his prostitution in order to advance socially. He portrays Vijay as the first entrepreneur [he] knew
of and a man who had made it in life (26), thereby

The Physical State Of Reverend Dimmesdale
The physical state of Reverend Dimmesdale mirrors the deterioration of Dimmesdale s mental and
moral state because of the guilt related to a lack of public confession. Because of Dimmesdale s
connection with the Puritan Church and his unconfessed sin, his mental health deteriorates to the
point of delusion. In order to lessen the guilt caused by his sin, Dimmesdale often practices
nightlong fasts and vigils. Those fasts and vigils fail to lessen his guilt because they constitute a
private confession. Because of the lack of public confession Dimmesdale starts to believe that he
lives a lie; Dimmesdale symbolizes a moral compass for the Puritancommunity but is an
unpunished adulterer. Dimmesdale and the Puritans believe that to the untrue man, the whole
universe is false (Hawthorne 133). Hawthorne means that untrue men, such as Dimmesdale, create
a fake reality in which those untrue men live in. Since Dimmesdale is an untrue man, his
perception of what is real and what is false starts to slip, and he begins having visions of his
bastard daughter pointing her finger at the clergyman s own breast and because Dimmesdale
creates a false reality, his visions and hallucinations combine with actual reality (Hawthorne 132).
The guilt from Dimmesdale s false life grows to the point that his [delusions] were, in one sense, the
truest and most substantial things which the poor minister now dealt with (Hawthorne 133). When
there is no peril of discovery , an attempt to publically

Character Analysis of Sam Dawson from the Film, I Am Sam
Case Study of Sam Dawson Author s name Author s institutional affiliation Author s note Case
Study of Sam Dawson Part 1 I. Character Background The name of the film selected for this case
study is I am Sam. (2002) The protagonist of the film is Sam Dawson, who is played by the actor
Sean Penn. Sam Dawson is a developmentally or intellectually challenged adult male, who has a
young daughter, primary school aged, named Lucy. Sam and Lucy live together without her
mother, who is a homeless person. There is not extensive information provided in the film
regarding Sam s upbringing, but based on his present situation, he is a well adjusted person in a
middle class atmosphere. It seems he has enough assets to provide for himself and his daughter
in a fairly independent basis. His daughter, Lucy, is happy and taken care of, but the tension
begins when Lucy exceeds Sam s mental capacity. Her peers ridicule her and her father because
of his intellectual deficiencies, calling him a retard. The character s family consists of Lucy
primarily, and some of Sam s other disabled friends who all help each other. One of Sam s
greatest and most prominent likes is that he is a huge fan of the band The Beatles. One of his
strengths is his love for his daughter. Another strength, although it is perceived as a weakness by
others who might prey on him, is that he goes through life with a sense of awe and naivete. Of
course, this is a result of his disability, but even still, he could have

Complications Of Social Disorganization
Criminal justice professionals utilize social disorganization to predict future trends in criminal
behavior. Many factors influence and control social disorganization; this paper will explain
exactly what social disorganization is, as well as its relationship or connection to organized crime
and criminal behavior. Today s corrupt political groups can have a direct and immediate effect on
social disorganization, as well as organized criminal activity ( Social Disorganization and Rural
Communities , 2003).
What is Social Disorganization? According to Bursik, (1988), the definition of social
disorganization is an inability of community members to achieve shared values or to solve jointly
experienced problems . Both theoretical and empirical research has focused on urban settings when
studying influencers on crime and delinquencies. Current versions of social disorganization theory
assume that strong social relationships will prevent crime and delinquency ( Social
Disorganization and Rural Communities , 2003). Crime can become more prevalent spawned
from neighborhoods with close living conditions such as apartment complexes or duplexes. Crime
rates can also be higher in areas that have a breakdown in the family unit. An example of family
unit breakdown could be a single parent family and divorce. Children that have a lack of social
control, order, and often turn to criminal activity many times come from these affected
neighborhoods ( Crime Social

Research Paper On Wonder Woman
It s been a long wait, but the first ever live action adaptation of Wonder Woman is just about to
hit the theaters worldwide. Considering the character s long and varied history in the DC
Comics universe, it s a small wonder we re just getting to this now. If you re not a fan of the
comics, you d be forgiven for thinking Wonder Woman is just some lady with a magic lasso. The
upcoming movie should prove you wrong, however, and there are at least five good reasons for it:
1. Critical Reception
Pop quiz, hotshots: how many DCEU movies have been a hit with the critics? The correct answer
is none at least until a few days ago. As of right now, Wonder Woman is holding steadfast at 95%
at Rotten Tomatoes, with 105 of 112 reviews giving it a fresh ... Show more content on

Even in the little screentime she had, the Israeli actress managed to bring out the perfect
combination of power and mystery Wonder Woman is known for. And if the stories from her time
in the army are anything to go by, she should be able to handle the physical demands of the role
just fine.
3. Period Piece
Having World War I as the setting of Diana Prince s origin story is a bold choice, but we believe
it s likely to pay off. It helps that WWI is not often explored in movies, so the audiences haven t
had time to get sick of it yet. On a related note, this should prove to be a nice change of pace from
the all the modern day DCEU movies. You could draw some parallels with Captain America: The
First Avenger, but the two World Wars have less in common than you might think.
4. Patty Jenkins
It s still hard to believe it took Patty Jenkins 14 years to shoot her second feature film. She s been
keeping busy with some sporadic TV work, but her stellar debut Monster left us wanting to see a
whole lot more from her. Back in the day, she seemed like a moderately safe bet to direct Thor 2;
ultimately, however, she decided to abandon the project due to personal differences. These days,
she seems pretty happy with how everything s turned

The Between Inductivist And Popper s Points Of View Of...
The following essay aims to discuss the inconsistencies between the inductivist and Popper s
points of view of science rationality of science in light of claims that the scientific method is
inductive yet an inductive method is no. I think is rational to say that inductivist view of science
has significant contradiction that Popper s view solves. To support Popper s view my argument
will introduce the inductivist and falsificationsist views and I will focus in showing the issues of
considered science as objective, scientific knowledge as proven and nature as uniform as well as the
differences between inductivism and falsificationism to the creation of hypothesis.
The main view of the statement seeing scientific knowledge as proof relays in the assumption that
scientific reasoning is inductive. Therefore, as first point I will introduce the main statement of
inductivism. The principle of induction states scientific method relays in the objective observation
as the basis for the foundation of laws and theories without the influence of subjectivisms such as
opinions and beliefs, for this uses the observation of particular statements to the creation of general
statements. Furthermore, inductivism assumes that nature will always be uniform, thus infers from
past patterns to the creation of hypothesis and laws. Finally, inductivism sees scientific knowledge
as proven knowledge.
Secondly I will introduce the Popper s view known as falsificationism and its inconsistencies with

The Battles of Philippi
The Battles of Philippi (42 BCE):
The Death of the Roman Republic The battles of Philippi remain one of the best examples of
how audacity on the battlefield can influence history. The battles are the climax of the civil war
following the assassination of Gaius Julius Caesar in 44 BCE by a band of prominent political
figures of Rome; (led by Marcus Junius Brutus (Brutus) and Gaius Cassius Longina (Cassius))
who will be referred to in this paper as the Liberators . The Battles that occurred on the
Macedonian plains from the 1st 21st of October 42 BCE will clearly show that no matter the period
of history the battlefield considerations of Political, Military, Economic, Social, and Physical
Environment can be exploited to achieve victory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well situated on the high ground fortifications the Liberator forces could have simply outlasted the
forces of the Triumvirate. Pro Caesarian forces occupied low swampy coastal plain not well situated
to support a Roman army. In an attempt to overcome Triumvirate limitations, Mark Antony
constructed a causeway to support a troop movement to the Liberator s rear. Upon receiving
intelligence that Cassius had ordered a wall to be built cutting the causeway and isolating Mark
Antony from the field, Mark Antony seized the opportunity and attacked the Liberators (Appian,
2007). Using this technique Mark Antony forced Cassius hand and ultimately his suicide. The
Battles of Philippi hold many lessons that apply to today s battlefield. The clearest lesson is that
boldness will carry the day. By seizing the initiative Mark Anthony overcame disadvantages of
terrain and logistics. His unpredictable actions led to the deaths of the two men that posed the
largest threat to the Triumvirate. By understanding the effect of shock, the value of initiative, and
courage the Triumvirate commanders would carry the day. Mark Antony s understanding of enemy
force structure and doctrine, the effects of culture, and experience as a leader allowed him to
outwit his foe. His effective use of scouts and effective intelligence about Liberator intentions
allowed him to

Similarities Between Macbeth Lady Macbeth – Essay
Love was very important to the Shakespearean audience. There is not a play written by
Shakespeare that does not contain some form of a love relationship. These plays usually end
happily, however in the case of Macbeth , the relationship that carries this important function, that
is love, is conveyed in a way most peculiar. Instead of the average happily ever after ending an
audience would expect, Shakespeare offers the audience, a villainous duo. One would expect that
their relationship is an average husband and wife relationship, but there are many similarities and
differences in the relationship which makes it even more enjoyable for the audience to watch the
course of it. The relationship between Macbeth and his Lady comes into... Show more content on

However he is quickly persuaded by Lady Macbeth, who is infinitely more ambitious,

terrible feat . Unlike her husband Lady Macbeth is a shrewd character. She is determined to
achieve her ambition by any means possible to her. This shrewdness along her extensive
manipulation skills create the strongest character in the entire play: Was the hope drunk
wherein you dressed yourself . The most grievous insult one could render a man during the
Middle Ages, were to his manhood; Lady Macbeth makes excellent use of this: And live like a

This seems to be in strong contrast with the fact that Macbeth cannot even hide his true feelings;
and he proves by failing to attend the welcoming banquet for Duncan due to his unbearable guilt.
Given many differences between Macbeth and his spouse, the main thing they share is the guilt,
paranoia, and shear consequences that are brought about by the murder of Duncan: These deeds

the murder of Duncan, as if they could find a better event to bring them closer other than the
murder of a king. The amount of guilt felt by Macbeth after his terrible feat is

Pros And Cons Of Fast Food
Fast food is becoming more common as the years pass us. The convenience and time saving that
come with fast food make it that much more desirable. Research has documented that low income
urban youth are at risk for obesity and related health problems. (Issner, J.H., Mucka, L.E. Barnett,
D. J Child Fam Stud (2017) 26: 548) But with fast foodcomes its pros and cons, and placing it in
schools can be very detrimental. There is a big debacle on if schools should sell fast food or not.

2009). (International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 14(10), 1255.) By
consuming large amounts of fast food daily, our bodies do not get the recommended nutrition we
need. For children, this is because they are still growing and they need a lot more to help their
bodies perform daily tasks. By developing a dependency on high saturated fats and little
nutrients, they become accustomed to eating poorly and a higher risk of becoming obese and
developing health concerns over time. Children are smart and learn by example, if they are
taught that it is ok to consume unhealthy choices daily, it will become a lot harder later on to take
control of the choices they make especially when their health is on the line. The most significant
example is we teach students health in schools and making right decisions and by contradicting
this and feeding them fast food would make our curriculum wrong by not setting a good example.
Children need healthier options to help with their active lifestyles. They need energy for learning

Examples Of Mistakes In Atonement
Good morning, today I am going to talk about the ability to learn from mistakes. I ve based my
oral presentation on the novel Atonement by Ian McEwan. It can be said that it is in the nature
of all of us, human beings, to make mistakes. Of course, there are different kinds of mistakes;
there are some that are innocent and harmless and others that can affect ourselves and/ or other
people s lives. Still, it is mainly by making this second type of mistakes that we can learn
important life lessons. They can help us to identify our flaws, and thus help us mature and achieve
personal growth. Yet, not everybody may be able to learn from mistakes. This seems to be the case
of Briony Tallis, one of the main characters of the novelAtonement by... Show more content on

geographical, ethical, and cultural proximity to the Middle East, Takastand is at risk of becoming a
violent hot spot as the events taking place in many Middle Eastern countries such as Lebanon,
Syria, Iraq and Yemen could spill over to Takastand and start an armed conflict.
Moreover, the new nation state of Takastand has been practicing an authoritative political policy on
its citizens which has led to many human security issues and human rights violations. The one and
only political party in Takastand consist the dominant ethnic community and discriminated against
the other ethnic communities. Also, international human rights organizations have publically
criticized the state of Takastand of repressing ethnic minorities and have presented evidence of
mass graves. The opposition groups in Takastand have offered to stand for individual human rights
and freedoms and democracy, as well as claiming that they will implement a true democracy which
protects all citizens and end the country s reliance on the West. However, as with the other ethnic
groups, the position has also

My Daughter Malala Essay
Since the beginning of time many believe as stated in Ziauddin Yousafzai s TED talk, titled My
Daughter Malala that women have been put through inequality and have been treated as if they
were worth less than what they actually are. (Yousafzai Para.5) This statement forces one to
think on a deeper level, causing one s mind to investigate numerous, precise questions. These of
which being, who are Ziauddin and Malala Yousafzai. What is the patriarchal society, and what
are the criterion for this type of society? What did Malala Yousafzai take belief in when she was

Although he helped her, one would ask what did he help her with? In particular her father helped
her learn how to rebel, or in other words he helped her along with many other young girls and
boys learn that everyone is equal. He put his daughter in school and taught her this because he
wanted her to know that women can also be superior. Later on after Malala was featured in the
New York Timesdocumentary, she started a public campaign to help girls go to school, and for
this she won a national youth peace prize. The world reacted by targeting her. They targeted her by
later shooting her in the head. But this was not the end of Malala s story.
Malala s father stated that he did not stop her from doing the things that she wanted to.
(Yousafzai Para. 17) The next question one would ask is what is the patriarchal society? In this
society this is where fathers are known for their sons. Rules in this society are that What is the
code of honor? The code of honor is the code where after the age of 13 females are not allowed to
go outside without a male escort. In Yousafzai s TEDtalk he mentioned that ... the story of
women is the story of injustice, inequality, violence, and exploitation. (Para.2) I agree with this
because I feel like many of the disastrous things in the world predominantly happens to girls. One
way that I could back this up would be in 2014, nearly 200 Nigerian school girls went missing, who

Role Of The Egf Receptor On Lipid
The Role of the EGF Receptor LET 23 on Lipid Biosynthesis in Caenorhabditis elegans
N. R. Contos
Thesis Abstract
The Caenorhabditis elegans LET 23, which is an Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) receptor, controls
multiple developmental pathways. In humans, EGF receptor mutations are implicated in a large
number of cancers due to excess signaling promoting cell growth and cell division. Recent work
has shown that in C. elegans LET 23 may also affect lipid production, specifically that of the
phospholipid phosphatidylcholine. To investigate the role of the LET 23 receptor on lipid
production, I have examined the cellular location of a fluorescent tagged SBP 1 marker under
different conditions within the worm and from these inferred levels of lipid production. I will
discuss my results and their impact on our understanding of EGF signaling and lipid biosynthesis.
Thesis Intro: As a whole the world is becoming more aware of how fats affect the body. Not only
are lipids a key element in cell membranes, they also lead to many issues regarding health. Obesity
is an ever increasing risk factor for many diseases including type II diabetes, cardiac disease, and
some forms of cancer (Kopelman 2000). As obesity transitions from little known problem into a full
blown global epidemic, it is important to understand how lipids are synthesized and regulated
within the body. Lipid synthesis pathways involve a complex interaction between the endocrine
system, tissues, nutrient storage and

Marketing On Christmas Gift Exchange And Asymmetrical...
This paper looks at the gift giving tradition between the Natives and the Europeans. Carlos and
Lewis s Marketing in the Land of Hudson Bay article explains in great detail the strategies used
by the Hudson Bay Company to develop a trading relationship with the Natives, as well as the
trends in trading. The article also elucidates that in order to understand its customer s culture and
demands, the Hudson Bay Company participated in Native traditions one of which was to present
gifts to Native traders before the actual trading. As the importance of this tradition is emphasized in
the article as well as the data presented, this paper aims to explore the influence of receiving gifts
on trade between the two parties. Giftexchange is a common practice among many countries and
many professions. The economists look at gifts as an incentive to increase productivity. This theory
is tested and proved in the following two articles.
The article Regarding gifts on Christmas gift exchange and asymmetrical business relations by
Jeannette Lemmergaard, and Sara Louise Muhr, focuses on the impression the company gifts can
make on the business partners during Christmas. The authors argue that corporate gift exchange
between business partners at Christmas is an attempt to build personal relationships, as a gift
represents social and cultural value than just the economic value. The article extensively
investigates the regard and obligation phenomenon, which is explained in the article as:

Prescription Drug Abuse Among College Students
Prescription drugs are being used for nonmedical purposes and it is becoming so common that it
has been deemed an epidemic. Literature suggest that prescription drug abuse among college
students is high. This could be due to the stressful environments college students are placed in.
Prescription drugs will be discussed broadly but in some instances, limited to opioids. Many
people are prescribed medication on a daily basis and not everyone uses them as they are intended.
What happens to the leftover medication? Do people share their medication with other people?
Why do people use prescription medication for nonmedical purposes? What is being done to fight
the epidemic? What treatment(s) is/are available? These questions and the answers will be
discussed later on.
There are many possible reasons why a person may use prescription drugs non medically.
According to a study conducted by Rozenbroek and Rothstein (2011) most non medical users use
socially with friends rather than alone. To come to this conclusion, they sent out a questionnaire
that contained information regarding three categories: opioids, CNS depressants, and stimulants.
The questionnaire included demographic information, relevant information (how they obtained the
drug), and to make it less of a hassle, they gave the questionnaire during regular class times to
unsuspecting students. They discovered from 428 completed questionnaires that opioids and CNS
depressants were mainly used medically, and stimulants were

Luckily, most cases of Alopecia do not require a biopsy, but Diffuse Alopecia may be an
exception. There are no specific blood tests done with Alopecia, but some doctors may do blood

of treatments varies from case to case and some cases that are counted as effective may not be

Wal Mart s control systems help achieve the basic building block and high competitive advantage:
Efficiency
One of the control systems in Wal Mart is the financial control systemthat provided managers with
day to day feedback about the business performance; where the financial performance of each store
and even each department within each store can be tracked and monitored through a sophisticated
companywide satellite system. This control system helps sharing profitability information and
inventory turnover rate among associates; which as a result gives them an in depth insight into the
retailing business and work on improving it.
Furthermore, the above control system helps identifying if there is an underperforming store in the
business in order to take immediate action; where managers and associates meet to find solutions
and raise performance. Besides, top managers pay routine visits to stores with lower performance to
lend their expertise. Another interesting strategy is that every month top managers fly to different
Wal Mart stores in order to inspect their performance, and they meet on Saturdays to discuss
financial results and future implications.
On the other hand, another control system the organization is their rewarding strategy; as they link
their performance and abilities to meet goals and targets to pay raise and promotion.

Growing Number Of Studies ( ЕёГ ) Essay
Growing number of studies (e.g. (Kowsari and Zerriffi, 2011; O. R. Masera et al., 2000))
investigate the impacts of various factors such as household income, and education status that
would influence household cooking fuel choice and then inform the policies to promote fuel
switching to the modern sources. Mainly, two broad conceptual models are popular in the area of
householdenergy choice and fuel transition in developing countries: Energy Ladder and Energy
Stacking Models (Elias and Victor, 2005; Hosier and Dowd, 1987; Leach, 1992; Leach and
Mearns, 1988; O. Masera et al., 2000). These models categorize energy resources into modern,
transitional and traditional fuels given that different cooking fuels are available in the region.
Modern fuels such as LPG or electricity are interpreted as superior because the inherent qualities of
these fuels are relatively superior in terms of fuel efficiency and sustainability when compared to
the traditional fuels. Transitional fuels are consumed during the transitional period; a period where
traditional fuels are in the process of being replaced by the modern fuels.
The factors influencing households fuel switching decisions in the energy ladder model are the
household income, relative fuel prices, and fuel accessibility. However, the energy ladder model
of perfect substitutability among the cooking fuels with respect to the income fails to be supported
by most empirical evidence (Heltberg, 2005; Hosier and Dowd, 1987; Lee et al.,

`` Thought, By Louis H. Sullivan
In his essay, Thought, Louis H. Sullivan illustrates the importance of real thinking and creative
thinking. He asserts that words are not really necessary to use to express our thoughts. He presents
other wordless forms of communication to translate our thoughts into loud expressions. Music,
painting, images and other wordless forms are the solution the author suggest, as better forms of
communication. Real thinking is better done without words Sullivan argues. Words cut off the
inspiration of creative thinking, and disturbs the imagination when someone tries to translate their
thoughts into spoken language. According to the author, images are the best way to translate our
creative thoughts without the interruption of finding the perfect word to describe an idea. Sullivan
attempts to persuade his audience to avoid reading because it deprives them from real thinking:
asserting that it must be only done in the present. He discusses that writing is a slow process: many
thoughts dissipates as one struggles to put their thoughts into words. Another point that Sullivan
argues is that one should only think in the present, and focus in the present alone because the
present is the only thing that matters. Sullivan explains, You cannot think in the past, you can only
think of the past... you cannot think in the future, you can only think of the future ... One is dead
and the other is yet to be born. The author argues that it is not good idea to expand our imagination

Santander Case Summary
The lending strategy followed by Santander involved auto finance, retailers, and financial services.
For the auto finance and retail loans, they used an indirect approach. The indirect approach was
dependent on the ability of car dealers and retailers to attract customers and market its credit.
Therefore, when the partner car dealers sat down with new customers, they would propose SCF s
car and durables loans. This strategy removed direct contact with the customer and the customers
would not know that SCF was behind the loan. For this reason, it was imperative to find the right
car dealers and retailers to partner with.

Research Paper On Emily Dickinson
The person I m reflecting on is Emily Dickinson, a famous poet from New England. Emily
Dickinson was born in 1830 in New England. Her natural first skills were cooking and sewing,
but attended a boarding school would change a lot. Emily was different from her family and had
a different outlook on life. Her love life was nothing, but shameful when guy after guy ended up
cheating, leaving her, or even dying. After that, Emily decided to stay inside her home for the
rest of her life and not deal with social life at all. She only communicated with flowers and poems
she would often write to closest friends and family. During her being at home, some of her poems
were published by her closet friends and family. One man was very impressed by her poem... Show

With Emily s ideas, she made over eight hundred carefully wrapped pieces of poetry which sat in
her room until her death when her sister published them to the public. When Emily got older she
lost so many loved ones (A close friend, a man she believed to have loved, her father and mother,
her favorite nephew, and her dog). With the terrible deaths happening around her impacting her
life heavily. She retreated further and further into her room not saying a word to anyone or even
coming out. When her father died she didn t even attend the funeral. She stayed in her room
leaving the door slightly open. Eventually her own health began to decline and the eloquent and
mysterious poet knew her time was up also. The last letter she ever wrote was to her cousins and
said Little Cousins, Called Back. Emily . On May 15, 1886, Emily Dickerson died at the age of
fifty five. The attending physician stated that her cause of death was Bright s disease, a kidney
disease now called acute or chronic nephritis. After Emily s death, Lavinia Dickinson published her
remaining poems she wrote. In 1955, there was a book that was published with the remaining
poems that she wrote for the family and the

Eric, The Huntsman s Journey
Eric, the Huntsman, seems to be somewhat an outcast in his character. Due to the fact that he only
wants to care for himself and wishes not to obey anyone, especially the spiteful Queen Ravenna.
Although, he was forced to take the task to find what the Queen wanted, which was Snow White,
he is desperate and tortured knowing that he will not get his wife back whether or not he goes to
find the princess, yet he took this mission anyways.
The Huntsman s Journey
The Huntsman happened to obey orders and take this journey as the Queen demanded, although he
expects something in return, something that means everything to him. He was set out into the Dark
Forest to find Snow White and supposably kill her, when unanticipatedly he was her savior and
protector throughout their journey together. Throughout this adventure, Snow White and the
Huntsman became closer together as the days went on. He taught her some survival skills to where

He would not leave her sight because if she was gone, he knew they would both would be found
and killed. When Snow White was found unconscious by Eric, he had felt like it was his fault and
that he was responsible for what happened. He was not there when it happened and he wished we
would have been.
The Initiation
In the movie, initiation does occur. The Huntsman is separated by what he knows in his village to
be able to survive anything that approaches the Dark Forest. He is then able to transform into a
better hero than what he expected to be by staying by Snow White s side, knowing he could not
let even the slightest thing happen to her. For his return, he is able to watch the princess defeat the
evil Ravenna from what he had taught her and watch her become the new Queen of the Kingdom
of Tabor. He had a good feeling knowing that everything would go back to normal with Snow White
being Queen.

Reflective Essay On Being An American
Paradise means something different to everyone. When I was little paradise to me was where
my mom was because I knew I was safe and taken care of. As I grew older the more I tried to
become independent, the less my mom could protect me and the more I had to start relying on
myself. My mom has always been overprotective to the point that some people still call her
paranoid. When I was little I was never allowed to leave her side, I was lucky she didn t home
school me. I was always confused as to why other children were allowed to do so much more
than me. Eventually I brushed it off and began reading, my new paradise was whatever book I was
reading in that moment. Because I was seen as the introvert of the neighborhood I was an easy

The Importance Of Weather Conditions In The Sea
Any experienced captain will tell you that weather conditions play a huge roll in decision making
while navigating any vessel. Seaworthiness does not rely on the size of your boat. How your boat
handles weather conditions are taken into consideration during the design and construction process.
Using your boatfor what it is designed to do is key. Voyages into water ways and harsh weather that
your boat cannot handle can be disastrous. Different levels of experience determine your ability to
handle weather conditions. One boater may find certain heavy weather conditions to be manageable
while another may not. The type of waterway you re operating on has much to do with how
treacherous weather conditions will become. Navigating in deep,... Show more content on

The zig zag approach will enable you to leave your boat in the trough long enough to turn. You
need to minimize the time in the trough and being broad side by the swell, so you do not broach.
Running with the swell behind you
When running in front of the sea,, the swell comes from behind you and this can be challenging.
The stern can be swept and pushed side to side. Keep the stern perpendicular to the oncoming seas
to navigate these conditions.
Being lifted by heavy seas is reason for concern. Boats tend fall quickly down the slope crest to
trough. When the stern is high your propeller could rise out of the water. If the rudder loses
contact with the flow of water, it will be left useless. Your boat could yaw to one side and broach
into the trough.
Sliding down the wave fast enough to bury the bow is another reason for concern. Pitchpoling can
exists when the stern is being pushed. To take the swells off one quarter and the other try tacking
before the seas. When running before the seas consider towing a drogue to slow your speed. This
will allow the helmsman an easier time control the stern in the proper position. The heaving to
maneuver
When conditions are become violent beyond your control, you and the boat are taking too much
force it s time to for the heaving to maneuver. Depending on the type of boat, this maneuver keeps
the bow in to the wind or a tad off the wind and waves.

The Yellow Wall-Paper By Charlotte Stetson
Analysis of The Yellow Wall Paper Charlotte Stetson s writing immediately draws the reader in,
and makes them want to continue reading The Yellow Wall Paper as fast as they can so that
they can see what happens in the end. The fact that this story is formed like a diary and the
narrator is very fervent makes the writing in this story very unique, as not many others are like
it. The narrator in this story is very sick, and yet no one believes her, so for a bit she tries to
believe that she is healthy. Believing that she is healthy did not work and she starts to descend
into madness; despite this, the narrator is still a very relatable person. The diary like style that this
story is written in gives a day by day view into the narrator s... Show more content on

Those three main parts of the story really come together and show that the narrator may not be
as crazy as she seems. This story was written to resemble entries in a diary, and that was an
amazing decision because it gives the reader a day by day look into what the narrator is
thinking. This really helps the reader connect with the narrator more because it shows that her
descent to madness was quite Tobias 2 gradual and she was relatively normal for a time. The
gradual decline of the narrator s mental health was very well written. The nervous breakdown didn
t just come from nowhere, there were instances and thoughts that built up to that moment, which
made the story even better. Another part of the writing that really works for this story is the old
english style it s written in. This style really helps to place the story in the correct setting, which is
very important because it shows that it was written in a time where there was not a lot of
information about nervous breakdowns or other mental health problems. The fervent manner in
which the story is written also helps to draw the reader in. The narrator s writing is very
passionate. The way the story is written makes

Machiavelli The Prince Essay
In The Prince and Discourses on Livy, Machiavelli breaks from the precedent set by early
political thinkers. Machiavelli unleashes a critical attack on the Church both as an institution and
also as a belief system. Machiavelli blames the institution of the Church for interfering in politics
which ends regimes. He treats the popes as though they are secular leaders who serve as examples
of what a ruler should do to maintain power. He calls it corrupt. He then criticizes the religionof
Christianity for contributing to these problems and dividing Italy. Machiavelli first targets the
Church as an institution in The Prince. Throughout his The Prince, Machiavelli treats the Church as
a state and the popes as rulers of that state. One of the first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Machiavelli has two areas of criticism. The first area indicating Machiavelli s criticism of the
papacy revolves around the expansion of the territory under control of the pope. He argues that,
Alexander VI, who, more than all the other popes there have been, demonstrated how much a
pope, using both money and arms, could get his own way (11, p. 37). Machiavelli depicts Pope
Alexander VI almost despotically since Machiavelli sees the pope as being able to get whatever
he wants by force or fortune. Machiavelli sees this as a trend in popes to follow such as Julius II
who, had opportunities to accumulate money of a sort that had not existed before Alexander (11,
p. 37). Machiavelli places a focus on the accumulation of wealth by the popes subtly implying that
wealth was important for popes at that time. Machiavelli concludes his criticism of this procession
of the popes by commenting that he hopes the new pope, Leo X, will increase that power but also
make the Church worth of respect (11, p. 37 38). Machiavelli, like before, makes an implication
about the Church, this time that it is currently not

I woke up in the middle of the night because I heard my father (John) yelling at the general of the

they were extremely loud. They were: the government did not have the money and that
Americans learned that a standing national army could be used to take away their liberty. Once I

That on April 30th 1803 he signed a treaty giving the Louisianan territory to the United States
making the US double in size. The Louisiana territory was very important because farmers sailed
down the Mississippi river to New Orleans to sell their crops to other farmers and settlers.
Jackson once told me that Napoleons plan for the Louisiana territory was to have thousands of
French farmers settle there. There were some people who liked the purchase and some that didn
t. the people that liked it was because, the country has now doubled in size making there be
more room for settlement and that the whole Louisiana territory would be carved into new
states. The people who didn t like it was because they thought it would be impossible to govern,
and people thought that since it was such a huge country now that they could get their freedom
taken away. That night I was dreaming about how president Monroe ordered Jackson to Georgia
to end the raids, but instead he continued to Florida with 1,700 troops to try and arrest and
execute two British subjects. The next day I was making tea for president Jackson when he was
starting to tell me another story. That is 1819 the Spanish government agreed to yield Florida to
the US. But the US had to pay $5 million dollars in settlers. Also in return the US had to honor
Spain s longtime claim to Texas. It was such an interesting story that I had to find out what all the

Connecticut River Formation Essay
There are many processes to the formation of Connecticut s surface and landscape. There were many
different reasons why Connecticut got its features, for example plate tectonics formed the
Appalachian Mountains. Glaciation put the rocks all along the coastline of Hammonasset Beach.
Last is weathering and erosionagain Hammonasset beach had all of those rocks and since they had
cracks in the rocks the water got in and froze even some of the biggest rocks. Plate tectonics are
very dangerous when they collide, slide, and move apart. They can create mountains like the
Appalachian Mountains that used to tower over everything then erosion took place. The
Appalachian Mountains were formed by convergent boundaries, convergent boundaries are collide

Glaciation happens after a glacier comes over the land like the Wisconsin glacier. After the
Wisconsin glacier receded back it left Jobs Pond in CT, Jobs Pond is a kettle hole which means
it has a natural spring. The groundwater which lets it to dry up then one year it shoots right
back up and the process starts all over again. Lake Hitchcock is another great example of
glaciation. The wonderful lake that stretched from Vermont to Connecticut. This body of water
was formed when the glacier pushed down the land and when it was receding it left the body of
water known as Lake Hitchcock. Unfortunately, the dam that was holding the water back broke
and thousand of gallons poured out of the lake into the ocean. The water that was left that didn t
make it into the river is known as present day CT River. Long Island Sound has also had
glaciation happen to the land and water. After the Wisconsin Glacier melted away the body of
water left in Long Island Sound was the CT Lake and that lake held thousands upon thousands of
gallons in it. Again the dam broke forming a 200ft waterfall that was soon brought down mixing
fresh and saltwater forming an

How Divorce Is A Common Family Problem Essay
Part I: Addressing Divorce in a Family Context Divorce is a common family problem faced by
fifty percent of American families today (source). No fault divorce gave rise to divorce rates as
the divorce rate doubled from 1960 1980 (source). Approximately half of children born to
married parents in the 1970s compared to only about eleven percent in the 1950s (source).
Research also demonstrates that African Americans are more likely to divorce than Anglos as
approximately one half of first marriages end within ten years as compared to one third of first
marriages of Anglos. Foreign born Hispanic/Latinos marriages are less likely to end than Anglo
marriages (source). U.S. born Hispanic/Latinos tend to have higher levels of martial instability than
Anglos but lower than African Americans (source). Research also shows that social class or
economic disadvantage appears to play a role in producing Anglo and African American differences
in marriageand divorce (source). Events leading up to divorce can be stressful and for some
families, they may already be facing a crisis before the actual divorce. Marriages that end in
divorce typically begin a process of unraveling, estrangement, or emotional separation years before
the legal divorce actually happens. During the course of the marriage one or both marital partners
may begin to feel alienated from the other. Conflicts or tension with each other and with the
children may intensify, become more frequent, and often go unresolved.

Religion And Religion In Ron Howard s Angels And Demons
Emphasising the position of the Catholic Church as well as science and development, Ron Howard
s Angels Demons illustrates the universal components alongside the intrinsic struggle in a modern
society from a unique perspective. Centered around the Harvard symbologist, Professor Robert
Langdon, alongside C.E.R.N physicist, Vittoria Vetra, the plot reestablishes the legend of Illuminati
through showcasing the latter s struggle with the Catholic Church. While Langdon protects the
church from an outside threat of explosion and an inside threat of the Camerlengo, the audience is
enchanted by not only the plot twists but also the featured art and architecture. Representing the
cults and societies presented in the movie, the art plays a significant part in the overall plot
alongside the multiple themes illustrated in the story. Explicating effective instances of social
changes and functions, Ron Howard s 2009 film Angels Demons evidently presents a commentary
on the struggles between religion and science from a symbolic interaction perspective. Exhibiting
an ancient conflict under a contemporary light, the movie Angels Demons highlights the
characteristics of modern society in regards to its antique counterpart. Presenting countless
instances of alterations in society in terms of not only behavioural patterns but also cultural values,
the movie elaborates on the social statics as well as social dynamics. Defined by Auguste Comte,
social statics is the study of social

The Impact Of Globalisation And Globalization
Modern world is full of new technologies and innovative ideas that can be useful and harmful to
many people. They can be easily spread and shared due to our interconnected world; globalisation
allows everyone to connect and find information in a matter of minutes. Societies are no longer
secluded and can affect each other with ease. This can end in cultural appropriation or
appreciation of the different cultures that surround us. Cultural identity is the feeling of belonging
to a certain social group, it is related to nationality, ethnicity, social class, generation, locality and
others (Moho, 2005). Globalisation is a controversial topic because it is far from being black and

Particularly English words and slang became very prominent around the world and can be found
in nearly every home or store from Japan to Spain. The English language has also been affected
and influenced by foreign speech. The Oxford English Dictionary has fairly recently added words
such as Izakaya (a type of Japanese bar) or shvitz (sauna or steam bath) (Arau, 2016), however,
languages even centuries ago assimilated and exchanged words from different cultures. To see the
consequences of prolonged linguistic contact we can observe the Latin American people who have
travelled and settled in North America. Hispanic Americans who speak both English and Spanish
welded the languages lexical and grammatical items to create a new urban dialect Spanglish . This
can be seen in many minority communities since common language is a tool of sharing a way of
life by social groups, this way they feel connected and unique in their environment where not many
other people share the same experiences and struggles as them. In our globalised world a lot of
individuals have internalised more than one culture. Contrary to popular belief, biculturalism and
bilingualism do not have to coincide, however, it is highly common for a bicultural person to use
more than one language while navigating between their different cultures. Immigrants, refugees,
international students and ethnic minorities have knowledge about multiple customs and often

Riding roller coasters is different for everyone, it can be a very exhilarating experience, but for others not so much. The first time I went on a roller coaster with a loop, I learned that I am definitely not made for roller coasters. It was a bright sunny day, the sun was shining through my hotel window. I got up and stretched my arms and yawned very loudly. My mom was already up and down at the breakfast buffet. I got dressed, brushed my teeth and hair, and took the elevator down to the buffet. My brother, being him, was obviously still asleep. He eventually met us down at the buffet. As soon as we had finished our breakfast, we were already at Disneyland having fun. ... I walked up to scan my wristband, All set , the man who was scanning wristbands said. We were in line for a while, then it was our turn. When I got on my seat, all I could look at was the loop. The instructor was talking about safety, but all I heard was, Blah blah blah . My eye s were still looking at the loop, I could not pay attention to anything. What have I got myself into!? , I said to myself. Whoosh! The roller coaster took off. AHH , I screamed. The roller coaster went up and down then, it was time... As we approached the loop my legs literally started their yearly hibernation. We were finally at the loop. My eyes slowly started to shut as if someone had turned the lights out. Essay about How Pixar Fosters Collective Creativity в—Џ Pixar relies heavily on intrinsic motivation to motivate and inspire its employees, which is particularly important given the poor measurability of success before the film is released. It achieves high levels of intrinsic motivation through: в—‹ Meaningfulness Skill variety is increased through Pixar University. By allowing staff to participate in the production discussions, it leads to task identity of their contribution to the whole project. в—‹ Responsibility Autonomy is high: Incubation teams are responsible for operational decisions, while the brain trust only gives suggestions. (2) (a) We disagree with Catmull s conclusion in the above quote. We believe it is an overgeneralization and exemplifies the Fundamental Attribution Error. While team dynamics and cohesion play a great role in the success of any team, we believe that external factors (situation, system) can profoundly affect behavior and performance. The importance of creating an environment that supports great people and encourages them to support one another so the whole is far greater than the sum of the parts is undermined by this statement. Even a great team can t be guaranteed to fix a mediocre idea or come up with good ones every time. The system/environment have a big role in the success of a team. (b) While we don t agree that Catmull s statement applies to all systems, we agree with his thought process. In hindsight, he observed that both teams were operating in the same external пїјпїј environment and one team was able to thrive better than the other in the same environment. During the production of Toy Story 2, he noticed that the new team was not performing well, failing to meet deadlines, and not improving. The directors and producers were not pulling together to rise to the challenge. Even though the individuals in the team were stars, the team was not working together in an ... • 7. The Role Of Violence In The White Tiger By Aravind Adiga It cannot fairly be said that in Aravind Adiga s novel, The White Tiger, the only way to escape the Darkness and advance in society is through violence, as an alternative route to the Light is presented in the story arc of Vijay, the pig herder s son turned politician. Balram asserts that the murder of Ashok is not only the direct cause of his new wealth and status, but also the only possible trigger for his newfound social mobility. Yet, this is contradicted earlier in the story when he presents Vijay, the bus driver, as his role model for a successful person. Vijay, in order to achieve his elevated position, resorted to prostitution; despite not being a desirable alternative to violence, it is an alternative all the same and therefore violence is not the only way to escape the Darkness. Following this logic, it is Balram s story and the immediate increase in wealth that results from the murder of Ashok that best supports violence as the only means of moving into the Light, and Vijay s story is the best evidence against that point of view. Although Balram argues that violence is his only way of overcoming the poverty he is born into, Vijay, a manborn into status even lower than Balram s, achieves power and wealth without resorting to violence. Initially Balram presents Vijay as his role model, condoning the rumors of his prostitution in order to advance socially. He portrays Vijay as the first entrepreneur [he] knew of and a man who had made it in life (26), thereby ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Physical State Of Reverend Dimmesdale The physical state of Reverend Dimmesdale mirrors the deterioration of Dimmesdale s mental and moral state because of the guilt related to a lack of public confession. Because of Dimmesdale s connection with the Puritan Church and his unconfessed sin, his mental health deteriorates to the point of delusion. In order to lessen the guilt caused by his sin, Dimmesdale often practices nightlong fasts and vigils. Those fasts and vigils fail to lessen his guilt because they constitute a private confession. Because of the lack of public confession Dimmesdale starts to believe that he lives a lie; Dimmesdale symbolizes a moral compass for the Puritancommunity but is an unpunished adulterer. Dimmesdale and the Puritans believe that to the untrue man, the whole universe is false (Hawthorne 133). Hawthorne means that untrue men, such as Dimmesdale, create a fake reality in which those untrue men live in. Since Dimmesdale is an untrue man, his perception of what is real and what is false starts to slip, and he begins having visions of his bastard daughter pointing her finger at the clergyman s own breast and because Dimmesdale creates a false reality, his visions and hallucinations combine with actual reality (Hawthorne 132). The guilt from Dimmesdale s false life grows to the point that his [delusions] were, in one sense, the truest and most substantial things which the poor minister now dealt with (Hawthorne 133). Sam Dawson is a developmentally or intellectually challenged adult male, who has a young daughter, primary school aged, named Lucy. Sam and Lucy live together without her mother, who is a homeless person. There is not extensive information provided in the film regarding Sam s upbringing, but based on his present situation, he is a well adjusted person in a middle class atmosphere. It seems he has enough assets to provide for himself and his daughter in a fairly independent basis. Her peers ridicule her and her father because of his intellectual deficiencies, calling him a retard. The character s family consists of Lucy primarily, and some of Sam s other disabled friends who all help each other. One of Sam s greatest and most prominent likes is that he is a huge fan of the band The Beatles. One of his strengths is his love for his daughter. • 11. Complications Of Social Disorganization Criminal justice professionals utilize social disorganization to predict future trends in criminal behavior. Many factors influence and control social disorganization; this paper will explain exactly what social disorganization is, as well as its relationship or connection to organized crime and criminal behavior. Today s corrupt political groups can have a direct and immediate effect on social disorganization, as well as organized criminal activity ( Social Disorganization and Rural Communities , 2003). What is Social Disorganization? According to Bursik, (1988), the definition of social disorganization is an inability of community members to achieve shared values or to solve jointly experienced problems . Both theoretical and empirical research has focused on urban settings when studying influencers on crime and delinquencies. Current versions of social disorganization theory assume that strong social relationships will prevent crime and delinquency ( Social Disorganization and Rural Communities , 2003). Crime can become more prevalent spawned from neighborhoods with close living conditions such as apartment complexes or duplexes. Crime rates can also be higher in areas that have a breakdown in the family unit. An example of family unit breakdown could be a single parent family and divorce. Children that have a lack of social control, order, and often turn to criminal activity many times come from these affected neighborhoods ( Crime Social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Period Piece Having World War I as the setting of Diana Prince s origin story is a bold choice, but we believe it s likely to pay off. It helps that WWI is not often explored in movies, so the audiences haven t had time to get sick of it yet. • 13. The Between Inductivist And Popper s Points Of View Of... The following essay aims to discuss the inconsistencies between the inductivist and Popper s points of view of science rationality of science in light of claims that the scientific method is inductive yet an inductive method is no. I think is rational to say that inductivist view of science has significant contradiction that Popper s view solves. To support Popper s view my argument will introduce the inductivist and falsificationsist views and I will focus in showing the issues of considered science as objective, scientific knowledge as proven and nature as uniform as well as the differences between inductivism and falsificationism to the creation of hypothesis. The main view of the statement seeing scientific knowledge as proof relays in the assumption that scientific reasoning is inductive. Therefore, as first point I will introduce the main statement of inductivism. The principle of induction states scientific method relays in the objective observation as the basis for the foundation of laws and theories without the influence of subjectivisms such as opinions and beliefs, for this uses the observation of particular statements to the creation of general statements. Furthermore, inductivism assumes that nature will always be uniform, thus infers from past patterns to the creation of hypothesis and laws. Finally, inductivism sees scientific knowledge as proven knowledge. Secondly I will introduce the Popper s view known as falsificationism and its inconsistencies with ... • 14. The Battles of Philippi The Battles of Philippi (42 BCE): The Death of the Roman Republic The battles of Philippi remain one of the best examples of how audacity on the battlefield can influence history. The battles are the climax of the civil war following the assassination of Gaius Julius Caesar in 44 BCE by a band of prominent political figures of Rome; (led by Marcus Junius Brutus (Brutus) and Gaius Cassius Longina (Cassius)) who will be referred to in this paper as the Liberators . The Battles that occurred on the Macedonian plains from the 1st 21st of October 42 BCE will clearly show that no matter the period of history the battlefield considerations of Political, Military, Economic, Social, and Physical Environment can be exploited to achieve victory. ... Pro Caesarian forces occupied low swampy coastal plain not well situated to support a Roman army. In an attempt to overcome Triumvirate limitations, Mark Antony constructed a causeway to support a troop movement to the Liberator s rear. Upon receiving intelligence that Cassius had ordered a wall to be built cutting the causeway and isolating Mark Antony from the field, Mark Antony seized the opportunity and attacked the Liberators (Appian, 2007). Using this technique Mark Antony forced Cassius hand and ultimately his suicide. The Battles of Philippi hold many lessons that apply to today s battlefield. The clearest lesson is that boldness will carry the day. By seizing the initiative Mark Anthony overcame disadvantages of terrain and logistics. His unpredictable actions led to the deaths of the two men that posed the largest threat to the Triumvirate. By understanding the effect of shock, the value of initiative, and courage the Triumvirate commanders would carry the day. Instead of the average happily ever after ending an audience would expect, Shakespeare offers the audience, a villainous duo. • 20. Examples Of Mistakes In Atonement Good morning, today I am going to talk about the ability to learn from mistakes. I ve based my oral presentation on the novel Atonement by Ian McEwan. It can be said that it is in the nature of all of us, human beings, to make mistakes. Of course, there are different kinds of mistakes; there are some that are innocent and harmless and others that can affect ourselves and/ or other people s lives. Still, it is mainly by making this second type of mistakes that we can learn important life lessons. They can help us to identify our flaws, and thus help us mature and achieve personal growth. Yet, not everybody may be able to learn from mistakes. This seems to be the case of Briony Tallis, one of the main characters of the novelAtonement by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The international community has decided according to chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations that the political, human rights and human security situation in Takastand require urgent attention and solutions. Due to its geographical, ethical, and cultural proximity to the Middle East, Takastand is at risk of becoming a violent hot spot as the events taking place in many Middle Eastern countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen could spill over to Takastand and start an armed conflict. Moreover, the new nation state of Takastand has been practicing an authoritative political policy on its citizens which has led to many human security issues and human rights violations. The one and only political party in Takastand consist the dominant ethnic community and discriminated against the other ethnic communities. Also, international human rights organizations have publically criticized the state of Takastand of repressing ethnic minorities and have presented evidence of mass graves. The opposition groups in Takastand have offered to stand for individual human rights and freedoms and democracy, as well as claiming that they will implement a true democracy which protects all citizens and end the country s reliance on the West. • 23. Role Of The Egf Receptor On Lipid The Role of the EGF Receptor LET 23 on Lipid Biosynthesis in Caenorhabditis elegans N. R. Contos Thesis Abstract The Caenorhabditis elegans LET 23, which is an Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) receptor, controls multiple developmental pathways. In humans, EGF receptor mutations are implicated in a large number of cancers due to excess signaling promoting cell growth and cell division. Recent work has shown that in C. elegans LET 23 may also affect lipid production, specifically that of the phospholipid phosphatidylcholine. To investigate the role of the LET 23 receptor on lipid production, I have examined the cellular location of a fluorescent tagged SBP 1 marker under different conditions within the worm and from these inferred levels of lipid production. I will discuss my results and their impact on our understanding of EGF signaling and lipid biosynthesis. Thesis Intro: As a whole the world is becoming more aware of how fats affect the body. Not only are lipids a key element in cell membranes, they also lead to many issues regarding health. Obesity is an ever increasing risk factor for many diseases including type II diabetes, cardiac disease, and some forms of cancer (Kopelman 2000). As obesity transitions from little known problem into a full blown global epidemic, it is important to understand how lipids are synthesized and regulated within the body. Masera et al., 2000)) investigate the impacts of various factors such as household income, and education status that would influence household cooking fuel choice and then inform the policies to promote fuel switching to the modern sources. Mainly, two broad conceptual models are popular in the area of householdenergy choice and fuel transition in developing countries: Energy Ladder and Energy Stacking Models (Elias and Victor, 2005; Hosier and Dowd, 1987; Leach, 1992; Leach and Mearns, 1988; O. Modern fuels such as LPG or electricity are interpreted as superior because the inherent qualities of these fuels are relatively superior in terms of fuel efficiency and sustainability when compared to the traditional fuels. Transitional fuels are consumed during the transitional period; a period where traditional fuels are in the process of being replaced by the modern fuels. The factors influencing households fuel switching decisions in the energy ladder model are the household income, relative fuel prices, and fuel accessibility. He asserts that words are not really necessary to use to express our thoughts. He presents other wordless forms of communication to translate our thoughts into loud expressions. Music, painting, images and other wordless forms are the solution the author suggest, as better forms of communication. Real thinking is better done without words Sullivan argues. Words cut off the inspiration of creative thinking, and disturbs the imagination when someone tries to translate their thoughts into spoken language. According to the author, images are the best way to translate our creative thoughts without the interruption of finding the perfect word to describe an idea. Sullivan attempts to persuade his audience to avoid reading because it deprives them from real thinking: asserting that it must be only done in the present. He discusses that writing is a slow process: many thoughts dissipates as one struggles to put their thoughts into words. Another point that Sullivan argues is that one should only think in the present, and focus in the present alone because the present is the only thing that matters. Sullivan explains, You cannot think in the past, you can only think of the past... you cannot think in the future, you can only think of the future ... One is dead and the other is yet to be born. • 41. Santander Case Summary The lending strategy followed by Santander involved auto finance, retailers, and financial services. For the auto finance and retail loans, they used an indirect approach. The indirect approach was dependent on the ability of car dealers and retailers to attract customers and market its credit. Therefore, when the partner car dealers sat down with new customers, they would propose SCF s car and durables loans. This strategy removed direct contact with the customer and the customers would not know that SCF was behind the loan. For this reason, it was imperative to find the right car dealers and retailers to partner with. For SCF s other products, they used a direct approach, which meant that they had to rely on their sales team to market and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More specifically, local employees reduced risks related to each country because they were more familiar with the culture, economy, and regulations. Due to their knowledge, locals were also put in charge of product development to reduce the risks of new products. Of course, when the product presented new risks, they had to be properly approved by a central committee. Through this structure, SCF could learn by collecting as much data as possible and acquire experience from the different businesses it ran. Incidentally, the fact that they had such widespread coverage across different countries allowed them to further spread risk. According to the case article, SCFfinanced loans through senior debt, securitized pools of car loans, commercial paper, asset backed securitization, and customer deposits, which can be seen in Exhibit 12 of the case article. When they could, they also got funding from local deposits (a cheaper alternative to doing currency swaps), which is why Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Italy represented SCF s largest source of funding in 2006. As I grew older the more I tried to become independent, the less my mom could protect me and the more I had to start relying on myself. My mom has always been overprotective to the point that some people still call her paranoid. When I was little I was never allowed to leave her side, I was lucky she didn t home school me. • 45. The Importance Of Weather Conditions In The Sea Any experienced captain will tell you that weather conditions play a huge roll in decision making while navigating any vessel. Seaworthiness does not rely on the size of your boat. How your boat handles weather conditions are taken into consideration during the design and construction process. Using your boatfor what it is designed to do is key. Voyages into water ways and harsh weather that your boat cannot handle can be disastrous. Different levels of experience determine your ability to handle weather conditions. One boater may find certain heavy weather conditions to be manageable while another may not. The zig zag approach will enable you to leave your boat in the trough long enough to turn. You need to minimize the time in the trough and being broad side by the swell, so you do not broach. Running with the swell behind you When running in front of the sea,, the swell comes from behind you and this can be challenging. The stern can be swept and pushed side to side. Keep the stern perpendicular to the oncoming seas to navigate these conditions. Being lifted by heavy seas is reason for concern. Boats tend fall quickly down the slope crest to trough. When the stern is high your propeller could rise out of the water. If the rudder loses contact with the flow of water, it will be left useless. Your boat could yaw to one side and broach into the trough. Sliding down the wave fast enough to bury the bow is another reason for concern. Pitchpoling can exists when the stern is being pushed. To take the swells off one quarter and the other try tacking before the seas. When running before the seas consider towing a drogue to slow your speed. This will allow the helmsman an easier time control the stern in the proper position. The heaving to maneuver When conditions are become violent beyond your control, you and the boat are taking too much force it s time to for the heaving to maneuver. Depending on the type of boat, this maneuver keeps the bow in to the wind or a tad off the wind and waves. When in a power boat forget where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Machiavelli unleashes a critical attack on the Church both as an institution and also as a belief system. Machiavelli blames the institution of the Church for interfering in politics which ends regimes. He treats the popes as though they are secular leaders who serve as examples of what a ruler should do to maintain power. He calls it corrupt. He then criticizes the religionof Christianity for contributing to these problems and dividing Italy. Machiavelli first targets the Church as an institution in The Prince. Machiavelli has two areas of criticism. The first area indicating Machiavelli s criticism of the papacy revolves around the expansion of the territory under control of the pope. He argues that, Alexander VI, who, more than all the other popes there have been, demonstrated how much a pope, using both money and arms, could get his own way (11, p. 37). Machiavelli depicts Pope Alexander VI almost despotically since Machiavelli sees the pope as being able to get whatever he wants by force or fortune. Machiavelli sees this as a trend in popes to follow such as Julius II who, had opportunities to accumulate money of a sort that had not existed before Alexander (11, p. 37). Machiavelli places a focus on the accumulation of wealth by the popes subtly implying that wealth was important for popes at that time. Machiavelli concludes his criticism of this procession of the popes by commenting that he hopes the new pope, Leo X, will increase that power but also make the Church worth of respect (11, p. 37 38). No fault divorce gave rise to divorce rates as the divorce rate doubled from 1960 1980 (source). Approximately half of children born to married parents in the 1970s compared to only about eleven percent in the 1950s (source). Research also demonstrates that African Americans are more likely to divorce than Anglos as approximately one half of first marriages end within ten years as compared to one third of first marriages of Anglos. Foreign born Hispanic/Latinos marriages are less likely to end than Anglo marriages (source). U.S. born Hispanic/Latinos tend to have higher levels of martial instability than Anglos but lower than African Americans (source). Research also shows that social class or economic disadvantage appears to play a role in producing Anglo and African American differences in marriageand divorce (source). Events leading up to divorce can be stressful and for some families, they may already be facing a crisis before the actual divorce. Marriages that end in divorce typically begin a process of unraveling, estrangement, or emotional separation years before the legal divorce actually happens. During the course of the marriage one or both marital partners may begin to feel alienated from the other. The English language has also been affected and influenced by foreign speech. The Oxford English Dictionary has fairly recently added words such as Izakaya (a type of Japanese bar) or shvitz (sauna or steam bath) (Arau, 2016), however, languages even centuries ago assimilated and exchanged words from different cultures. To see the consequences of prolonged linguistic contact we can observe the Latin American people who have travelled and settled in North America. Hispanic Americans who speak both English and Spanish welded the languages lexical and grammatical items to create a new urban dialect Spanglish . This can be seen in many minority communities since common language is a tool of sharing a way of life by social groups, this way they feel connected and unique in their environment where not many other people share the same experiences and struggles as them.
