The Causes Of Carbon Dioxide And Planeting Earth s...
Carbon Dioxide emissions are destroying earth s environment, minute by minute. Humans play a
big part in the addition to the carbon in the air. Every car on the road produces carbon dioxide into
the air, as well as the factories worked in, also release carbon dioxide. However, nature also
contributes to the increase of carbon dioxide. Wildfires are an attribute to greenhouse gas in the air
that is almost uncontrollable by humans. When acres of land is burned, the smoke releases
carbon dioxide into the air. Carbon Dioxide takes over the oxygen levels that humans need in
order to live and breath. Carbon Dioxide is a gas that is absorbed from the air through plants
during the process of photosynthesis. Trees are important in the regulation of greenhouse gas in
the atmosphere. A newspaper article, The New York Times, states, Wildfires also release carbon
dioxide, one of the main drivers of climate change, and reduce the number of trees available to
absorb carbon dioxide, a double whammy for the atmosphere (Schlossberg). Trees and forests
help maintain the level of this gas, by releasing oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide.
Unfortunately, wildfires interrupt the receiving of carbon dioxide. When a forest catches on fire,
the substance that absorbs the greenhouse gases are burned down. Not only are the wildfires
releasing millions of metric tons of carbon dioxide, there is no longer a product to take in the toxic
gas. Therefore, more greenhouse gases are released than absorbed,

Acheta Domesticus Research Paper
The Aggression between Acheta domesticus males
The male Acheta domesticus show behaviors of aggression to increase their chances for
reproduction with females and improve their fitness. The resident males are more likely to win in
combats against non resident males in environments with a higher value of resources. Studies have
also shown that when female chemical cues are present, the violent behaviors in resident males
increase, which leads to better success in contests. Consequently, when the resource amount is low
in a habitat and there are no female odors, the invaders or non residents are found to be more
probable to win (Buena and Walker 2008). This suggests that information symmetry or the amount
of information each male knows about an area is a crucial part in fighting contests not only for the
A. domesticus, but also for all animals. In some situations, the Acheta domesticus increase their
aggressive actions when a female is present (Buena and Walker 2008), but it was found that the
mated males, who were mounted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
domesticus. For example, a greater level of hunger, restricted access to mates, and increased
odors of females will increase and escalate the males aggression when fighting (Brown et al.
2007). A study done by Brown suggests that motivational symmetries change a males aggression.
It was concluded that the solitary males initiated 80% of the aggressive behaviors during fights
against males who have an unlimited access to females (Brown et al. 2007). The solitary males
are more willing to increase aggressiveness in fights over mates because they will benefit more
from winning. When fighting for females, solitary males have better mating success by a factor of
14:1. However, because females favor males with qualities related to good competitive skills, the
males aggressive behavior increases to improve their reproductive

Immigrants In The Philippines
Today, Filipinos represent the 4th largest immigrant group in the United States by country of origin,
after Mexico, India and China (Alchin, 2017). The Filipinos started immigrating to the United
States for various reasons such as political and poverty. They were able to through trading ships and
after the Spanish American War. Once here, they faced prejudice and discrimination, including in
our own state, Washington.
The first wave of immigrants from the Philippines to America was during the period when the
country was under Spanish rule and formed part of the Spanish East Indies. People were
migrating through the Spanish trading ships that were called Manila Galleons , these ran across
the Pacific Ocean from Manila to the port of Acapulco. The ships carried things like silk, perfume,
spices, and other goods from China to Mexico and California. In California seamen who had been
forced to work for the Spanish, would migrate to North America. In 1763, Filipinos made their first
permanent settlement in Louisiana, these Filipinos were called Manila Men (Alchin, 2017).
Another wave was impacted by the Spanish American War. The Philippines came under the control
of the United States of America in 1898 following the Spanish American War which lasted three
and a half months on April 25, 1898 to August 12, 1898. The 1899 Treaty of Paris ended this war
where Spain sold the Philippine Islands to the United States for $20,000,000 (Alchin, 2017). After

Case Study Of The Iran Nuclear Program
To: Secretary of State
From: Gregory J. Abide
Date: November 27th, 2017
PROBLEM:
The current IAEA inspections to verify compliance of safe nuclear activities under the NPT do not
provide timely enough detection to safeguard against military conversion by countries such as Iran.
SOLUTION:
The United States uses the Iran Deal and its attempted strengthening as the mechanism to modernize
IAEA safeguards for all countries in order to save the NPT.
BACKGROUND:
The issues that have been encountered with the Iran nuclear program are symptoms of a larger
problem when it comes to enrichment, reprocessing, bulk holding of nuclear fuel, and other
activities deemed safe by the IAEA. Due to the inherent danger and dual purpose of current safe ...

Shortly after ratifying its agreement with the IAEA in 1992, North Korea refused requests for
IAEA inspections in 1993 of two sites based upon evidence that North Korea had been cheating on
its commitments and had a small stockpile undeclared plutonium. Following this, the US
negotiated the 1994 Agreed Framework with North Korea and the IAEA. Throughout the decade,
North Korea s nuclear program seemed to abide by the program, despite multiple violations of
banned ballistic missile research and testing. North Korea declared its withdrawal from the NPT in
2003 following allegations of clandestine nuclear research in 2002, and eventually conducted its
first successful nuclear weapons test in 2006.
Iran has pursued what it claims to be a peaceful nuclear program since prior to the Iranian
Revolution of 1979. The Iranian Revolution ended U.S. support for the program, which was further
setback by Iraq bombing the Russian built Bushehr reactors as they were undergoing construction
in 1988 1989 during the Iraq Iran War. In the early 1990 s, Iran signed separate nuclear support
agreements with China and Russia in continued pursuit of peaceful nuclear energy, which it
continued through the decade.

Just War Theory Of The Iraq War
Looking at the Iraq War and Applying it to the Ideas and Principles of the Just War Theory and
Sun Tzu s The Art of War
The war in Iraq, which started in March 2003 and lasted 8 years and 9 months, is the third longest
war in American history. The invasion and the war itself faced tremendous criticism from in and
outside the United States in which many called the venture a total disaster. The Brown University
Institute for International studies estimates that the war caused around 189,000 civilian causalities
and costed the United States more $2 trillion dollar. No wonder many individuals believed the war
has done more bad than good and question whether the war was just at all. The Iraq Warwas an
unjust war due to many reasons that can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many different things that go into what makes a more just and what makes a war
unjust. Sun Tzu says that a war ought to be waged if it is an intelligent one and a just one. For
the purposes of time, the focus will be on three of Sun Tzu s most important principles; 1. Know
your enemy and yourself, then you will win a 100 battles, 2. Winning a 100 battles is not the
pinnacle of success, avoiding war altogether, and 3. No long war is successful. In Sun Tzu s first
principle, he is saying that one must know the reasons why they are fighting as well as the
enemy and their motives, if one can do that then the war will be a successful one. Now let s look
at this and apply it to the Iraq war. For one, as stated earlier in this document, the United States
had no reasonable grounds as too the reason for the invasion of iraq. It was all based off of fears
that there were weapons of mass destruction which later turned out to never had existed in the first
place. Likewise, who really was the enemy in the Iraq war? Was it Saddam Hussain, terrorist or
innocent people. Looking at just numbers it would appear that the United States military did not
clearly understand the enemy at hand which is why war is considered a failure to

Essay about How to Solve the Foreclosure Crisis
Foreclosed homes have become a menacing commonality in nearly every neighborhood in the
United States. These foreclosed properties problems range from unkempt yards, broken doors and
windows, as well as becoming dangerous havens for drugs and violent acts of vandalism. In
addition, empty foreclosed homes drive down propertyvalues of surrounding homes and
neighborhoods.
Many of these homes became foreclosures because the buyers could not afford the payments. This
inadvertently ruins not only their credit scores, but also ruins the chance of owning a home in the
future. This results in crushing families hopes of achieving the American dream of home ownership.
The flip side of this crisis is the affect that these foreclosures are ... Show more content on

This essay will describe these components in detail to show how they can be the key to solving the
foreclosure crisis in America.
Component One
The first component of the solution is addressing the banks toxic assets that were created by the
mortgage banks lending on overvalued property and lending to consumers that could not afford
the payments. Underwriters should have prevented more of this; however that was not the case.
In the future, banks and lenders will need to be more effective in the approval process that
qualifies home buyers. The banks will have the option to participate in this program or not. They
will also have the chance to pick and choose which properties will be included, if any.
As a result, the banks will need to take a marginal loss initially so they can recover most of the
invested capital. All toxic assets will need to be reappraised at the bank s expense so that the
true value of the property can be reestablished. Once they have been reappraised these properties
are unloaded by the banks for seventy percent of their current value which will recoup an
acceptable amount of capital return to the banks. Taking advantage of this program would allow
the banks to recapitalize themselves rather than receiving Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP)
loans that need to be repaid. (H.R. 1424, 2008) This also frees them of the toxic assets and
improves their overall profitability and bottom line. Once these assets

By analyzing this information, it is upon the analyst to be able to identify types of offenders such
as robbers or sex offenders. Another method of gathering information comes from analyzing calls
for service data. Since most agencies are moving to combine tactical and strategic analysis s this
will consolidate the efforts of helping the investigators in apprehending criminals as well as helping
the community policing efforts to eliminate the Hot Spots . Also, by combining these efforts, the
production of valuable tactical and strategic analyses will greatly be improved. The analysts also
have another very important role and that is the ability to direct how the law enforcement agency
will handle certain types of crimes.
There are five analyst positions and they all have specific types of duties. The tactical analyst
performs crime analysis duties. They develop bulletins from calls for service, conduct historical data
for general and specific crimes, and identify hot spots, patterns and trends for the investigators, as
well as publish regular bulletins to keep the department informed on the criminal trends. The
tactical analysts develop crime maps, rapports with outside agencies and research crimes from
inside and outside their jurisdiction. By making written and oral presentations for the staff in their
agency affords them the ability to disseminate accurate and relevant information in a timely manner.
The tactical analyst also analyzes the Modus Operandi

Television And Internet News Programs
News or Nonsense Television and internet news programs have began to stray away from a
strictly informative report of current happenings to vague, non factually based entertainment
stories. This is a direct result of society s desire to worry about everyone s feelings. In the past,
viewers passionately desired accurate information and statistics on the nation s current events.
As of now, a different generation of viewers and new s providers bestow the supply and demand
of news stories based on emotions, rather than fact. With extremist groups becoming increasingly
popular the demand for highly biased news is snowballing. New s corporations like FOX
capitalize on this by providing news that is consistently biased to one point of view. Having a
one sided production such as FOX creates a type of animosity between them and their
competition. This seems rather childish, making these top tier new companies look like a joke.
In result, a viewer will struggle to find a new s broadcast that provides more than a couple of
relevant stories based on factual information. Instead, the bulk of content is displayed in a look at
me, feel bad for me, or look at them format. From this, the broadcasters work at the heart strings
of their viewers. They get the viewer to invest emotion into a story, creating a reaction and desire
to hear, see, and feel more. Given the response, broadcasters see interest in emotionally based
stories skyrocket and interest in factually based stories

Comparing Roman and Greek Art Essay example
Comparing Roman and Greek Art
Throughout history art has consistently reflected the cultural values and social structures of
individual civilizations. Ancient art serves as a useful tool to help historians decipher some
important aspects of ancient culture. From art we can determine the basic moral and philosophical
beliefs of many ancient societies. The differences in arts purpose in Greece and Rome, for
example, show us the fundamental differences in each culture s political and moral system. The
primary objective of Greek art was to explore the order of nature and to convey philosophical
thought, while Roman art was used primarily as a medium to project the authority and importance
of the current ruler and the greatness of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Protogeometric and Geometric periods are good examples of such advanced thinking. The
beginnings of the Protogeometric period display a distinct interest in mathematical order. During
this period, artists decorated vases with circles and symmetrical patterns. As the dominant style
changed from Protogeometric to Geometric, this order and precision was amplified. The popular
?circle and semicircle patterns were replaced by linear designs, zigzags, triangles, diamonds, and
meanders? (Cunningham, 40). The increased interest in order seems to have been a reflection of
the Greek fascination with nature, and man?s relationship to nature.
This interest in the order of nature eventually evolved into a fascination with the human form and
the idea of human perfection. The way in which the perfect human form was portrayed by Greek
artists was of a highly intellectual nature. The early sculptors of the period explored basic human
anatomy and its aesthetic value, creating such sculptures as the Kritios Boy, of the Acropolis. The
precision and realism of this sculpture captured a more accurate portrayal of the human form than
ever before seen. This accomplishment in itself showed strong advancements in intellectual
thought, and inspired future generations to further explore aesthetic and order. Artist such as
Polyclitius later envisioned human perfection as a series of mathematical proportions. The

Five Themes In Slaughterhouse Five
In the book Slaughterhouse Five, Vonnegut s purpose of creating and alternative, structure of time
and Tralfamadorian s was to mix descriptions of historic Dresden and his personal wartime
experiences. Vonnegut uses Tralfamadorian fantasy and bits from his earlier fiction to create a
meaningful story and give understand of how Vonnegut felt when he was in war. Vonnegut uses a
stream of events to express the difficult timeBilly goes through when trying to fully adapt to the
Tralfamadorian s involvement with the DresdenBombing. Throughout the story Billy jumps in
time. Every individual moment in time happens at the exact same time as every other moment,
so the past, the present, and the future are illusions. Billy s time jumping is caused by his PTSD
that he got from being a part of the Dresden Bombing. Vonnegut uses Billy s time traveling is his
experiencing what all Tralfamadorian s experience. They see there consequences and
repercussions of their actions at the time they happen. That s the point of Billy s time travel. To
show that humans don t see the whole picture, that we don t know what our consequences will
be. The point is if humans didn t see the whole picture they wouldn t do things like the bombing
of Dresden. Vonnegut uses both Billy and Tralfamadorian s to demonstrate this. Slaughterhouse
Five is filled with symbols or motifs that are recurring throughout the whole story. The motif I
see most recurring is so it goes the phrase Billy says after someone dies in the story, equalizing
all of them, whether they are natural, accidental, or intentional. they are on a massive scale or a
personal one. Billy uses this saying to say that this one bad thing happening by all of these other
good moments does not make it something to be sad about and dwell on. So it goes this phrase
is saying that stuff happens in life. People die and life just needs to keep going on and not be
stopped for lives that have stopped that if your life is still going you should keep going. This
phrase shows a comfort in the Tralfamadorian idea that although a person may be dead in a
particular moment, that he or she is alive in all the other moments of their life and can be visited
over and over through time travel. For

Violation Of Social Norms In The Classroom
According to National Post Ben Fields, a school resource officer at Spring Valley High School
has been fired for using unnecessary force to remove a student from the classroom. Videos taken

officer is seen wrapping his forearm around the student s neck and flipping her while she was still
sitting in her desk. The female student is then dragged, tossed across the room and finally

The actions of Fields can be seen as a violation of a social norm. It is abnormal for a police officer
to use excessive force on a student who is posing no immediate threat, especially on a young
student. County Sheriff Lott has stated the forced used on the student was not part of training or
normal protocol ( It just makes you sick , 2015). The concept of social norm and subjective
construal can be seen. Construal is the way an individual views, understands, and interprets the
social world to be. In subjective construal, although the situation is the same, there are opposing
views on the way the people involved view, understand, and interpret the situation (Droogendyk,
2015). According to Antrobus, Bradford, Murphy, and Sargeant (2015) obeying the police is
strongly associated with an individuals own feelings about obeying the police and their ties to the
community. An individual who does not feel a strong tie to the community, in this case the school
environment, would feel fewer obligations to obey. In the article, the female student made it clear
that she will not hand over her cell phone or leave the classroom because she did not do anything
wrong. However, according to the teacher and administrator the student did and therefore needed to
be removed. Fields shared this view and seemed to think not only should the student be removed but
also force was necessary. The different opposing views demonstrate subject construal and how both

Summary Of By The Waters Of Babylon
The Truth and Knowledge
In By the Waters of Babylon, by Stephen Vincent BenГ©t, set in a future following the
destruction of industrial civilization, the story is narrated by a young man who is the son of a
priest. The priests of John s people, the hill people, are inquisitive people associated with the
divine. They are the only ones who can handle metal collected from the home s also known as the
Dead Places of long dead people whom they believe to be god s. Truth and knowledge are displayed
as a role for priests to know and not everyone else; because, of consequences that could happen if
someone knows too much. Truth and knowledge are only controlled by priests to keep everyone
in the village safe; so, no one knows the truth about the gods or anything else that will let society
fall to pieces. The narrator s journey and discoveries reveal that the not all knowledge is true. This
discovery will influence his knowledge and actions for the remainder of his life.
The way Benet uses the truth is by giving certain people like the priest s information to control
the society in which they live in. On John s journey for truth and knowledge, he makes the highly
significant discovery that the Place of the Gods was just a city, and that the Gods themselves were
not actually gods; in fact, they were men, just like him and his people. He knew this; because,
when he walked into the hot room, he saw the dead god sitting in his chair, watching his city die

Nathan Englander s For the Relief of Unbearable Urges depicts how a man s devotion for his

protagonist Dov is caught between religion and love, he being what he assumes is a good
husband, when confronted with marital issues turns to religion. Eventually Dov s devotion and

Dov although what he does is wrong I believe he has great reasons. He is a representation of a

New Immigration Policy
Today, there are almost 11 million immigrants, living illegally in the U.S., creating a massive
problem for the U.S. government. What could be a possible new immigration policy? For the past
several years, the government has been seeking a solution to this difficult task, yet the issue still
remains unsolved. Groups like the Task Force, and even former U.S. President Bush proposed
different ideas pertaining to change in the U.S. immigrationpolicy, which can be compared and
contrasted to a recently proposed Option 5. First and foremost, there were many similarities
between the ideas suggested by Option 5, the Task Force and President Bush. It was agreed
between the groups that, despite numerous problems pertaining to the immigrants, the vast majority
of them are people who came to America to work hard to support their families, practice their
faiths, and lead responsible lives. For that reason, all three groups believe that a temporary work
permit program would greatly benefit both the illegal immigrants and the U.S. government.
The ideas of each group were comparable, in terms of giving the immigrants an option to apply
for temporary visas or green cards. This option may solve the major problem with illegals trying
to sneak across the Mexico border, and encourage them to take the proper route into America. The
temporary work permits will provide low wage employees for employers in America, to fill in the

Democracy And Politics Of South Korea

Democracy and Politics in South Korea
Democracy that means the rule of people has been used as a political system since Ancient Greece.
Even though its concept has changed as time goes by, it is still regarded as one of the best political
systems and used in many countries. Unfortunately, most Asian countries did not use this political
system until the middle of the 20th century, so they have a very short history compared with
western countries. Because of that, Asia has had some troubles. For example, Park and Shin (2006)
said that many countries have had military dictatorship which is a common government for a
developing country. A developing country, above all, might want to develop their economy, so
they endure dictatorship because the dictator can make a decision easily and quickly (Park, C. D.
Shin, D., 2006). It also happened in South Korea 50 years ago. In spite of military dictatorship in
the past, South Korea has the most successfully established democracy in Asia (Whitehead, L.,
2002).
There is a special history of democracy in South Korea. Democracy was accepted in 1945 in
South Korea because South Korea achieved independence from Japan. Right after independence of
Korea from Japan, they were divided into two countries; North and South Korea. South Korea
founded and developed a democratic government. However, democracy could not be preserved
because a military general, Junghee Park, accomplished the

what he enjoys doing the most in journalism. Ten years ago, Schaffer landed a job reporting in
Baltimore at ABC 2 News and then six months ago took over as the co anchor of the morning

Uncertainty In Law
The ethical consideration of this article would be the harm that could arise from not changing the
laws. Business disruption and long term planning are the two problems which arise as a result of
changing laws. Uncertainty in a new law can result in extended periods of work. Prosperity is
reduced by the intervening period in which uncertainty is confronted. Certainty is what businessand
individuals thrive from. Problematic laws negatively impact individuals in society which creates
the need for revision. The constant changing of tax codes by the government creates problematic
situations for future retirement. The greatest irregularity is the regulatory environment which
greatly impacts people s lives, jobs, and businesses. Regulatory changes

Decrease In Teen Suicide Research
Suicide is a very difficult topic to discuss, especially for those that have either attempted to end
their life or for the families of those that ended their life. However, it is a topic that continues to
cause headlines and tragedy as suicide attempts have been more and more common but studies have
shown a decline in teen suicide(Kolves, De Leon, 2015). According to Quinan Davidson et al
(2013) an average of 220, 000 people between the ages of 10 and 24 commit suicide. Suicide is
considered to be a deathby a self injurious behavior in which the intent is to die (CDC.gov, 2015).

In the U.S, males tend to take their life four times more than woman and account for almost 78%
of all suicides (CDC.gov, 2015). In the United States the youngest child to take their life is
between the ages of 5 to 9, in 2001 and 2010 a total of 7 children took their own life in each year
(WHO.int). Data taken from the World Health Organization (2010) and Kolves and De Leon
(2015) teens between the ages of 14 to 19 and young adults between the ages of 20 and 25 tend
to have higher mortality rate due to suicide, however there is a decrease with middle adulthood
between the ages of 30 45, and once again it suicide rates increase in middle aged adults between
the ages of 50 and 55. In a recent study conducted by Kolves and De Leon (2014), they found that
in 11 counties in South American, suicide rates increases for both female and males, from
1.04 to 2.32 for boys, and from 1.45 to 2.30 for girls between 2000 and 2009. Suicide rates

believed that the high rates of suicide can be related to the economic and financial problems in the
last decade, as well as drugs and prostitution and a corrupt government (Kolves De Leon,

Ethical And Ethical Issues Of Business Ethics
The work of setting a positive ethical climate starts at the top of the organization as positive ethical
attitudes filter down to employees. Ferrell et al. (2015) states, the more employees perceive an
organization s ethical culture to be the less likely they are to make unethical decisions (p.134).
Business ethicsis not only about knowing what is right and wrong, or doing the right thing, ethics
involves acting with responsibility, being objective when making decisions, putting honesty in all
relationships, and maintaining employees fairness. According to Hughes, Ginnet, and Curpy
(2012), conflict over values can arise even when an organization has clearly published values
because leaders and employees have divergent perceptions of whether the leader s behavior
embodies important corporate values (p.177). Unfortunately, GM s ethical organizational culture
has been seriously disconnected from the policies stated in their company. In the past GM s
culture has favored cover up over openness and legal contemplation over customer safety. The
values embedded in GM s organization were not put into practice. Product defects were concealed
from top management as well as the public, not only hurting General Motor s reputation as a
quality customer driven culture, but also the owners of GM vehicles who were injured or died. A
culture of secrecy seemed ingrained at General Motors, which can be blamed on former CEO
leaders, the organizations structure, and organizational

Social Security And Retirement Practices
According to Moody Sasser, critics of retirement as it exists today have pointed out to the rigidity
of retirement practices. Retirement is typically an all or nothing proposition. Would it not be better
to have some form of flexibility or phased retirement, in which employees gradually reduce their
work hours or take longer vacation? The thinking goes that such an approach might enable older
workers to adjust better to retirementand permit employees to make gradual changes instead of
coping with the abrupt departure of a well integrated employee. Retirement could be radically
redefined in the future if phased retirement were to take hold. (p. 425).

It is a sacred place dedicated to the belief in life after death. The afterlife was a main focus of
Egyptian Civilization and ruled every aspect of the society. This is reflected in their architecture
and manpower involved in the building of their tombs. Ancient Egyptians believed the soul
could live only if the body was preserved from corruption and depredation as well as fed. This
aspect was emphasized in Perneb s tomb by two small obelisks (now missing) at the western
corners of the courtyard. They evoked the presence of the sun god Re who, especially in Perneb s
time, was venerated as the ultimate source of life in grandiose solar temples built around huge

life renewing rituals. Eternalized in the wall decorations, these rituals and the offerings that

The Veldt Theme Analysis
In The Veldt by Ray Bradbury, he shows that obsession, at times can turn into madness. This
theme is presented in many ways including how the children don t have any social time. These
kids only want to be with the Veldt and never with their parents or peers. The madness part of the
theme comes in at the end of the story when the kids obsession controls their actions. Also, there
are many different themes but i do believe that this is a major and important theme. This proves
that The Veldt shows that obsession can turn into madness. One reason that The Veldt shows
obsession and madness is because of the way the kids only spend time in the Veldt. Therefore, the
kids need more family time. They are so obsessed with the African Savanna they d

The Promised Analysis of Gay Suburbia
In Peacocks, Chameleons, Centaurs, Wayne Brekhaus discusses more than the promised analysis of
gay suburbia. Brekhaus presents a thorough investigation of human identity construction, which just
so happens to apply well to gay suburban life in America. The title refers to the three main types of
identity management that people use to construct their sense of self. Brekhaus defines his terms
well. Identity is defined in three ways; or, there are three different types of identity. These three
identity types include the following: first, there are broad group identities; then, there are the
commonly recognized dimensions along which group identities are formed, such as sexual identity;
and finally, there is self identity. An individual can have multiple identities; what Brekhaus explores
is how individuals manage these sometimes disparate identities in one persona. The person will
have a core self, or true self, the very core of a person that reflects an inner, true, unchanging,
context independent essence of human being (Brekhaus 23). Brekhaus posits three main methods
of managing identity, or three identity types. Those three identity types include the lifestyler
(peacocks); the commuter (chameleon); and the integrator (centaur). These are also what Brekhaus
refers to as identity grammars, as there is a grammar or structure by which identity is formed. Each
of these three identity management types (lifestyler, commuter, and centaur) corresponds with a

William Bradford And John Smith Essay
Captain John Smith and William Bradford are different in their view of the Native Americans.
When comparing John Smith and William Bradford s work they wrote with different styles, due to
differing audiences and purposes. Smith wrote things based on all the action, promoting himself in
a third person tall tale, in order to establish a higher government position and bring more hard
working Englishmen to the New World. Using detail and supposed thoughts. John Smith s work
can nearly be titled as a noveland has been passed down through newer versions, such as Disney s
Pocahontas or Avatar. To compare, William Bradford s work it probably will never turn into a

Smith also pens his deed as heroic but one is left to wonder about his compassion for humanity.
William Bradford on the other hand reports many interactions with Indians, though the ones that
talk with him are friendly and speak English. Bradford, most likely due to their kindness, always
respectively calls them Indians and views a few of them as his allies.
However, John and Bradford both agree on one issue: The New World should be inhabited and
settled, and good, hard working men should fill its fertile land. John often dreams of
industrializing America and conquering the Natives; Wherefore, Bradford wants New England to
be a place of refuge for his men.
Finally, when comparing them through their works, one does get a glimpse of these founding
writers. John Smith, at best, was a hero let s say he is your favorite superhero who has major
ego problems and he is someone who lacks the value of human life. Smith also is the admired
leader, gets to be in the middle of all the action, and is enticingly charming to the ladies. Bradford,
however appears to have the opposite personality. Bradford is never seeking thrills or fame from
other people like John is. Bradford s dream was to be a servant leader and teacher in the New

Consider SQL Good For Business
Reasons Why Remote DBA Professionals Consider SQL Good for Business
Structured Query Language, commonly referred to as SQL, is a programming language that is
used to communicate with and handle databases. In order to maximize the outputs that they get
from the huge amount of data collected, many companies and establishments employ IT
professionals well versed in SQL. SQL programs are adopted and used by companies in order to
access and influence the data and information that is maintained in their databases, as well as for
generating and modifying new tables.
It may be considered as one of the simplest programming language, but that doesn t mean the
power of SQL can be anyway undermined. SQL has the ability to insert data into databasetables, ...

Capitalism During The Great Depression
For example, when a good is scarce, the prices goes up, so consumers try to avoid buying and
therefore conserving the resource. Then, the suppliers want to find more of the source as to get
a better profit. The reasons behind their actions are selfish, yet they benefit all of society. Smith
identified that the pursuit of profit and the power of self interest would increase motivation and
result in more advances in technology. His model of capitalism was on the basis of freedom and
selfishness as a motivator for society. It was also on the basis that the economy would go
through recessions and expansions but fix itself. Recessions are periods in the economy in which
unemployment goes up, while profits and spending goes down; a slowdown of the economy. An
expansion is essentially the exact opposite. The classical model of economics states that the
economy will continue to go through these fluctuations over time and will fix itself with no help,
thus not needing a government to give influence. Eventually, however, The Great Depression
happened, and there was no end in sight of the dramatic recession. The Great Depression was a
widespread crash of the market that happened in 1929 and lasted well into the 1930 s. For a long
time, no one knew why it had happened or when it would be over. Often considered capitalism s
savior, John Maynard Keynes noticed the lengthy depression and realized that something was
causing it to be stuck. He thought that the economy was not going to pick

Essay on Jose Saramago s Blindness
When defining the word blindness, it can be interpreted in various ways. Either it can be
explained as sightless, or it can be carefully deciphered as having a more complex in depth
analysis. In the novel Blindness, Jose Saramago depicts and demonstrates how in an instant your
right to see can be taken in an instant. However, in this novel, blindnessis metaphorically related to
seeing the truth beyond our own bias opinions.
Saramago s novel clearly illustrates themes that describe the importance of the awareness of others,
in terms of feeling oppressed by fear, lack of trust, dehumanization, and segregation. He describes in
full detail the importance of the government s involvement in the lives of the blind victims, which

For instance, Hispanic women are more likely to be dissatisfied if they feel they have been treated
badly by providers and staff and if they do not trust doctors (Guendelman, Wagner 118). If the
patient does not feel a sense of hospitality and see a welcoming smile, it discourages the patient to
visit the physician because they feel they are not getting the right medical attention, and tend to be
sicker. In addition, the sicker individual risk exposure to more insults, and this leads them to pull
back from the health care system (119). In a physician/ patient relationship there needs to be a
balance between actually caring and giving your patients the attention and satisfaction that they
deserve. Some physicians take advantage of their patient s vulnerability of being sick by pushing
them aside, and worrying more about the fastest way to make money. However, the physician then
loses another patient because of greed.
Saramago represents trust in a very similar manor, yet instead he describes a man who is
suddenly overcome with a white blindness while stopped at a red light. He explains how an
onlooker has offered to drive the blind man home, and takes advantage of the frantic man s
situation by stealing his car, that good soul, has taken our car [...] He took advantage of your

Life Cycle Assessment ( Lca )
1.Introduction Background
The built environment as a whole is said to contribute about half the greenhouse gas emissions in
the world (UNEF 2007). Specifically, considering the less studied area of construction emissions,
research shows that this component accounts for as much as 11.7% of emissions inclusive of direct
and indirect emissions (Acquaye Duffy 2010). As such it has significant impact on the environment
and represents a major opportunity to study potential reductions.
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is one of the techniques that is used in order to quantify and improve
the sustainability of buildings with respect to the efficiency of energy utilized in that building.
The energy emissions can be subdivided into embodied energy and operating energy based on the
energy required in the construction, operation, maintenance or demolition of buildings (Ramesh,
Prakash Shukla 2010). Most of the emphasis in this research area has been given to the operating
energy of the buildings, although there has been some research that has been carried out on the
energy emissions due to physical waste arising from the renovation or demolition of the buildings
(Blengini 2009; Coelho de Brito 2012). For example, NABERS is an energy monitoring program
that is being used in Australia to quantify operating energy.
Operating energy forms the vast majority of the greenhouse gas emissions in the life cycle of any
office building while the contribution of embodied energy towards the

Gun Control And The Second Amendment

now. But: as harsh as this sounds your dead kids don t trump my Constitutional rights. This is the
type of thing that people find so terrible about the Second Amendment; because pro gunzealots use
the Second Amendment to protect their immoral actions, but this is their twisted and corrupted
interpretation on the meaning and intent of the Amendment because this is in no way the original
premise of the Second Amendment. The right to bear arms laid out in the Second Amendment is
just because guns are weapons for self defense. Precautions are taken on gun control, such as
keeping a permanent record of all gun sales, requiring a license and certain mental certifications,
and only allowing certain guns to be distributed to the public. Although some may argue that they
can also be used to kill the innocent, the removal of guns from the possession of certified citizens

Scurvy Is Not A Disease
Scurvy is not a disease that is not talked about often. Before the twenty first century, scurvy was
prevalent in nearly every part of the world. With today s amazing advances in medicine, scurvy is
not generally a disease that most people in America or other civilized countries need to worry
about. While it is rare, scurvy does occur and it is incredibly treatable. The symptoms are reversible
and treatment is easy with the right amount of vitamin Cadded to the diet to offset what has been
missing. Scurvy is a disease that has been around since ancient times. Originally, there were
many different ideas about what caused scurvy. Genetics, toxins, the environment, and
infections were among many of the explanations for scurvy. Of all the people afflicted with
scurvy, the most numerous were sailors. Surgeons and doctors out at sea with the sailors were
among the first to be able to describe the disease in clinical detail and find a treatment that was
effective in clearing up scurvy. Sir James Lind, a surgeon for the British Navy, has been credited
with finding an easy way to treat scurvy; with lemons and oranges. While scurvy was extremely
common while out at sea, cases still came about on land as well. The people most effected by
scurvy on land were civil war soldiers, gold rushers in California, and Irish and English populations

  • 2. The Causes Of Carbon Dioxide And Planeting Earth s... Carbon Dioxide emissions are destroying earth s environment, minute by minute. Humans play a big part in the addition to the carbon in the air. Every car on the road produces carbon dioxide into the air, as well as the factories worked in, also release carbon dioxide. However, nature also contributes to the increase of carbon dioxide. Wildfires are an attribute to greenhouse gas in the air that is almost uncontrollable by humans. When acres of land is burned, the smoke releases carbon dioxide into the air. Carbon Dioxide takes over the oxygen levels that humans need in order to live and breath. Carbon Dioxide is a gas that is absorbed from the air through plants during the process of photosynthesis. Trees are important in the regulation of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. A newspaper article, The New York Times, states, Wildfires also release carbon dioxide, one of the main drivers of climate change, and reduce the number of trees available to absorb carbon dioxide, a double whammy for the atmosphere (Schlossberg). Trees and forests help maintain the level of this gas, by releasing oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide. Unfortunately, wildfires interrupt the receiving of carbon dioxide. When a forest catches on fire, the substance that absorbs the greenhouse gases are burned down. Not only are the wildfires releasing millions of metric tons of carbon dioxide, there is no longer a product to take in the toxic gas. Therefore, more greenhouse gases are released than absorbed, ... • 3. Acheta Domesticus Research Paper The Aggression between Acheta domesticus males The male Acheta domesticus show behaviors of aggression to increase their chances for reproduction with females and improve their fitness. The resident males are more likely to win in combats against non resident males in environments with a higher value of resources. Studies have also shown that when female chemical cues are present, the violent behaviors in resident males increase, which leads to better success in contests. Consequently, when the resource amount is low in a habitat and there are no female odors, the invaders or non residents are found to be more probable to win (Buena and Walker 2008). This suggests that information symmetry or the amount of information each male knows about an area is a crucial part in fighting contests not only for the A. domesticus, but also for all animals. In some situations, the Acheta domesticus increase their aggressive actions when a female is present (Buena and Walker 2008), but it was found that the mated males, who were mounted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... domesticus. For example, a greater level of hunger, restricted access to mates, and increased odors of females will increase and escalate the males aggression when fighting (Brown et al. 2007). A study done by Brown suggests that motivational symmetries change a males aggression. It was concluded that the solitary males initiated 80% of the aggressive behaviors during fights against males who have an unlimited access to females (Brown et al. 2007). The solitary males are more willing to increase aggressiveness in fights over mates because they will benefit more from winning. When fighting for females, solitary males have better mating success by a factor of 14:1. However, because females favor males with qualities related to good competitive skills, the males aggressive behavior increases to improve their reproductive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Immigrants In The Philippines Today, Filipinos represent the 4th largest immigrant group in the United States by country of origin, after Mexico, India and China (Alchin, 2017). The Filipinos started immigrating to the United States for various reasons such as political and poverty. They were able to through trading ships and after the Spanish American War. Once here, they faced prejudice and discrimination, including in our own state, Washington. The first wave of immigrants from the Philippines to America was during the period when the country was under Spanish rule and formed part of the Spanish East Indies. People were migrating through the Spanish trading ships that were called Manila Galleons , these ran across the Pacific Ocean from Manila to the port of Acapulco. The ships carried things like silk, perfume, spices, and other goods from China to Mexico and California. In California seamen who had been forced to work for the Spanish, would migrate to North America. In 1763, Filipinos made their first permanent settlement in Louisiana, these Filipinos were called Manila Men (Alchin, 2017). Another wave was impacted by the Spanish American War. The Philippines came under the control of the United States of America in 1898 following the Spanish American War which lasted three and a half months on April 25, 1898 to August 12, 1898. The 1899 Treaty of Paris ended this war where Spain sold the Philippine Islands to the United States for $20,000,000 (Alchin, 2017). After this the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Case Study Of The Iran Nuclear Program To: Secretary of State From: Gregory J. Abide Date: November 27th, 2017 PROBLEM: The current IAEA inspections to verify compliance of safe nuclear activities under the NPT do not provide timely enough detection to safeguard against military conversion by countries such as Iran. SOLUTION: The United States uses the Iran Deal and its attempted strengthening as the mechanism to modernize IAEA safeguards for all countries in order to save the NPT. BACKGROUND: The issues that have been encountered with the Iran nuclear program are symptoms of a larger problem when it comes to enrichment, reprocessing, bulk holding of nuclear fuel, and other activities deemed safe by the IAEA. Due to the inherent danger and dual purpose of current safe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shortly after ratifying its agreement with the IAEA in 1992, North Korea refused requests for IAEA inspections in 1993 of two sites based upon evidence that North Korea had been cheating on its commitments and had a small stockpile undeclared plutonium. Following this, the US negotiated the 1994 Agreed Framework with North Korea and the IAEA. Throughout the decade, North Korea s nuclear program seemed to abide by the program, despite multiple violations of banned ballistic missile research and testing. North Korea declared its withdrawal from the NPT in 2003 following allegations of clandestine nuclear research in 2002, and eventually conducted its first successful nuclear weapons test in 2006. Iran has pursued what it claims to be a peaceful nuclear program since prior to the Iranian Revolution of 1979. The Iranian Revolution ended U.S. support for the program, which was further setback by Iraq bombing the Russian built Bushehr reactors as they were undergoing construction in 1988 1989 during the Iraq Iran War. In the early 1990 s, Iran signed separate nuclear support agreements with China and Russia in continued pursuit of peaceful nuclear energy, which it continued through the decade. A 2003 IAEA report on a clandestine facility at Natanz stated that Iran had failed to comply with the NPT, leading to Iran agree with the EU3 (Britain, France, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Just War Theory Of The Iraq War Looking at the Iraq War and Applying it to the Ideas and Principles of the Just War Theory and Sun Tzu s The Art of War The war in Iraq, which started in March 2003 and lasted 8 years and 9 months, is the third longest war in American history. The invasion and the war itself faced tremendous criticism from in and outside the United States in which many called the venture a total disaster. The Brown University Institute for International studies estimates that the war caused around 189,000 civilian causalities and costed the United States more $2 trillion dollar. No wonder many individuals believed the war has done more bad than good and question whether the war was just at all. The Iraq Warwas an unjust war due to many reasons that can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many different things that go into what makes a more just and what makes a war unjust. Sun Tzu says that a war ought to be waged if it is an intelligent one and a just one. For the purposes of time, the focus will be on three of Sun Tzu s most important principles; 1. Know your enemy and yourself, then you will win a 100 battles, 2. Winning a 100 battles is not the pinnacle of success, avoiding war altogether, and 3. No long war is successful. In Sun Tzu s first principle, he is saying that one must know the reasons why they are fighting as well as the enemy and their motives, if one can do that then the war will be a successful one. Now let s look at this and apply it to the Iraq war. For one, as stated earlier in this document, the United States had no reasonable grounds as too the reason for the invasion of iraq. It was all based off of fears that there were weapons of mass destruction which later turned out to never had existed in the first place. Likewise, who really was the enemy in the Iraq war? Was it Saddam Hussain, terrorist or innocent people. Looking at just numbers it would appear that the United States military did not clearly understand the enemy at hand which is why war is considered a failure to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay about How to Solve the Foreclosure Crisis Foreclosed homes have become a menacing commonality in nearly every neighborhood in the United States. These foreclosed properties problems range from unkempt yards, broken doors and windows, as well as becoming dangerous havens for drugs and violent acts of vandalism. In addition, empty foreclosed homes drive down propertyvalues of surrounding homes and neighborhoods. Many of these homes became foreclosures because the buyers could not afford the payments. This inadvertently ruins not only their credit scores, but also ruins the chance of owning a home in the future. This results in crushing families hopes of achieving the American dream of home ownership. The flip side of this crisis is the affect that these foreclosures are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This essay will describe these components in detail to show how they can be the key to solving the foreclosure crisis in America. Component One The first component of the solution is addressing the banks toxic assets that were created by the mortgage banks lending on overvalued property and lending to consumers that could not afford the payments. Underwriters should have prevented more of this; however that was not the case. In the future, banks and lenders will need to be more effective in the approval process that qualifies home buyers. The banks will have the option to participate in this program or not. They will also have the chance to pick and choose which properties will be included, if any. As a result, the banks will need to take a marginal loss initially so they can recover most of the invested capital. All toxic assets will need to be reappraised at the bank s expense so that the true value of the property can be reestablished. Once they have been reappraised these properties are unloaded by the banks for seventy percent of their current value which will recoup an acceptable amount of capital return to the banks. Taking advantage of this program would allow the banks to recapitalize themselves rather than receiving Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) loans that need to be repaid. (H.R. 1424, 2008) This also frees them of the toxic assets and improves their overall profitability and bottom line. Once these assets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Television And Internet News Programs News or Nonsense Television and internet news programs have began to stray away from a strictly informative report of current happenings to vague, non factually based entertainment stories. This is a direct result of society s desire to worry about everyone s feelings. In the past, viewers passionately desired accurate information and statistics on the nation s current events. As of now, a different generation of viewers and new s providers bestow the supply and demand of news stories based on emotions, rather than fact. With extremist groups becoming increasingly popular the demand for highly biased news is snowballing. New s corporations like FOX capitalize on this by providing news that is consistently biased to one point of view. Having a one sided production such as FOX creates a type of animosity between them and their competition. This seems rather childish, making these top tier new companies look like a joke. In result, a viewer will struggle to find a new s broadcast that provides more than a couple of relevant stories based on factual information. Instead, the bulk of content is displayed in a look at me, feel bad for me, or look at them format. From this, the broadcasters work at the heart strings of their viewers. They get the viewer to invest emotion into a story, creating a reaction and desire to hear, see, and feel more. Comparing Roman and Greek Art Essay example Comparing Roman and Greek Art Throughout history art has consistently reflected the cultural values and social structures of individual civilizations. Ancient art serves as a useful tool to help historians decipher some important aspects of ancient culture. From art we can determine the basic moral and philosophical beliefs of many ancient societies. The differences in arts purpose in Greece and Rome, for example, show us the fundamental differences in each culture s political and moral system. The primary objective of Greek art was to explore the order of nature and to convey philosophical thought, while Roman art was used primarily as a medium to project the authority and importance of the current ruler and the greatness of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Protogeometric and Geometric periods are good examples of such advanced thinking. The beginnings of the Protogeometric period display a distinct interest in mathematical order. During this period, artists decorated vases with circles and symmetrical patterns. As the dominant style changed from Protogeometric to Geometric, this order and precision was amplified. The popular ?circle and semicircle patterns were replaced by linear designs, zigzags, triangles, diamonds, and meanders? (Cunningham, 40). The increased interest in order seems to have been a reflection of the Greek fascination with nature, and man?s relationship to nature. This interest in the order of nature eventually evolved into a fascination with the human form and the idea of human perfection. The way in which the perfect human form was portrayed by Greek artists was of a highly intellectual nature. The early sculptors of the period explored basic human anatomy and its aesthetic value, creating such sculptures as the Kritios Boy, of the Acropolis. The precision and realism of this sculpture captured a more accurate portrayal of the human form than ever before seen. This accomplishment in itself showed strong advancements in intellectual thought, and inspired future generations to further explore aesthetic and order. Artist such as Polyclitius later envisioned human perfection as a series of mathematical proportions. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Five Themes In Slaughterhouse Five In the book Slaughterhouse Five, Vonnegut s purpose of creating and alternative, structure of time and Tralfamadorian s was to mix descriptions of historic Dresden and his personal wartime experiences. Vonnegut uses Tralfamadorian fantasy and bits from his earlier fiction to create a meaningful story and give understand of how Vonnegut felt when he was in war. Vonnegut uses a stream of events to express the difficult timeBilly goes through when trying to fully adapt to the Tralfamadorian s involvement with the DresdenBombing. Throughout the story Billy jumps in time. Every individual moment in time happens at the exact same time as every other moment, so the past, the present, and the future are illusions. Billy s time jumping is caused by his PTSD that he got from being a part of the Dresden Bombing. Vonnegut uses Billy s time traveling is his experiencing what all Tralfamadorian s experience. They see there consequences and repercussions of their actions at the time they happen. That s the point of Billy s time travel. To show that humans don t see the whole picture, that we don t know what our consequences will be. The point is if humans didn t see the whole picture they wouldn t do things like the bombing of Dresden. Vonnegut uses both Billy and Tralfamadorian s to demonstrate this. Slaughterhouse Five is filled with symbols or motifs that are recurring throughout the whole story. The motif I see most recurring is so it goes the phrase Billy says after someone dies in the story, equalizing all of them, whether they are natural, accidental, or intentional. they are on a massive scale or a personal one. Billy uses this saying to say that this one bad thing happening by all of these other good moments does not make it something to be sad about and dwell on. So it goes this phrase is saying that stuff happens in life. People die and life just needs to keep going on and not be stopped for lives that have stopped that if your life is still going you should keep going. This phrase shows a comfort in the Tralfamadorian idea that although a person may be dead in a particular moment, that he or she is alive in all the other moments of their life and can be visited over and over through time travel. It is abnormal for a police officer to use excessive force on a student who is posing no immediate threat, especially on a young student. County Sheriff Lott has stated the forced used on the student was not part of training or normal protocol ( It just makes you sick , 2015). The concept of social norm and subjective construal can be seen. Construal is the way an individual views, understands, and interprets the social world to be. In subjective construal, although the situation is the same, there are opposing views on the way the people involved view, understand, and interpret the situation (Droogendyk, 2015). Summary Of By The Waters Of Babylon The Truth and Knowledge In By the Waters of Babylon, by Stephen Vincent BenГ©t, set in a future following the destruction of industrial civilization, the story is narrated by a young man who is the son of a priest. The priests of John s people, the hill people, are inquisitive people associated with the divine. They are the only ones who can handle metal collected from the home s also known as the Dead Places of long dead people whom they believe to be god s. Truth and knowledge are displayed as a role for priests to know and not everyone else; because, of consequences that could happen if someone knows too much. Truth and knowledge are only controlled by priests to keep everyone in the village safe; so, no one knows the truth about the gods or anything else that will let society fall to pieces. The narrator s journey and discoveries reveal that the not all knowledge is true. This discovery will influence his knowledge and actions for the remainder of his life. The way Benet uses the truth is by giving certain people like the priest s information to control the society in which they live in. On John s journey for truth and knowledge, he makes the highly significant discovery that the Place of the Gods was just a city, and that the Gods themselves were not actually gods; in fact, they were men, just like him and his people. Groups like the Task Force, and even former U.S. President Bush proposed different ideas pertaining to change in the U.S. immigrationpolicy, which can be compared and contrasted to a recently proposed Option 5. First and foremost, there were many similarities between the ideas suggested by Option 5, the Task Force and President Bush. It was agreed between the groups that, despite numerous problems pertaining to the immigrants, the vast majority of them are people who came to America to work hard to support their families, practice their faiths, and lead responsible lives. Even though its concept has changed as time goes by, it is still regarded as one of the best political systems and used in many countries. Unfortunately, most Asian countries did not use this political system until the middle of the 20th century, so they have a very short history compared with western countries. Because of that, Asia has had some troubles. For example, Park and Shin (2006) said that many countries have had military dictatorship which is a common government for a developing country. Ferrell et al. (2015) states, the more employees perceive an organization s ethical culture to be the less likely they are to make unethical decisions (p.134). Business ethicsis not only about knowing what is right and wrong, or doing the right thing, ethics involves acting with responsibility, being objective when making decisions, putting honesty in all relationships, and maintaining employees fairness. According to Hughes, Ginnet, and Curpy (2012), conflict over values can arise even when an organization has clearly published values because leaders and employees have divergent perceptions of whether the leader s behavior embodies important corporate values (p.177). Unfortunately, GM s ethical organizational culture has been seriously disconnected from the policies stated in their company. In the past GM s culture has favored cover up over openness and legal contemplation over customer safety. The values embedded in GM s organization were not put into practice. Retirement is typically an all or nothing proposition. Would it not be better to have some form of flexibility or phased retirement, in which employees gradually reduce their work hours or take longer vacation? The thinking goes that such an approach might enable older workers to adjust better to retirementand permit employees to make gradual changes instead of coping with the abrupt departure of a well integrated employee. Retirement could be radically redefined in the future if phased retirement were to take hold. (p. 425). Will social security be there for young people? Many young people believe that ... The afterlife was a main focus of Egyptian Civilization and ruled every aspect of the society. This is reflected in their architecture and manpower involved in the building of their tombs. Ancient Egyptians believed the soul could live only if the body was preserved from corruption and depredation as well as fed. This aspect was emphasized in Perneb s tomb by two small obelisks (now missing) at the western corners of the courtyard. They evoked the presence of the sun god Re who, especially in Perneb s time, was venerated as the ultimate source of life in grandiose solar temples built around huge obelisks. Most importantly, the interior rooms of the mastaba were places for the performance of life renewing rituals. Eternalized in the wall decorations, these rituals and the offerings that accompanied them provided the deceased with everlasting sustenance. This theme is presented in many ways including how the children don t have any social time. These kids only want to be with the Veldt and never with their parents or peers. The madness part of the theme comes in at the end of the story when the kids obsession controls their actions. Also, there are many different themes but i do believe that this is a major and important theme. This proves that The Veldt shows that obsession can turn into madness. One reason that The Veldt shows obsession and madness is because of the way the kids only spend time in the Veldt. Therefore, the kids need more family time. • 30. The Promised Analysis of Gay Suburbia In Peacocks, Chameleons, Centaurs, Wayne Brekhaus discusses more than the promised analysis of gay suburbia. Brekhaus presents a thorough investigation of human identity construction, which just so happens to apply well to gay suburban life in America. The title refers to the three main types of identity management that people use to construct their sense of self. Brekhaus defines his terms well. Identity is defined in three ways; or, there are three different types of identity. These three identity types include the following: first, there are broad group identities; then, there are the commonly recognized dimensions along which group identities are formed, such as sexual identity; and finally, there is self identity. An individual can have multiple identities; what Brekhaus explores is how individuals manage these sometimes disparate identities in one persona. The person will have a core self, or true self, the very core of a person that reflects an inner, true, unchanging, context independent essence of human being (Brekhaus 23). Brekhaus posits three main methods of managing identity, or three identity types. Those three identity types include the lifestyler (peacocks); the commuter (chameleon); and the integrator (centaur). These are also what Brekhaus refers to as identity grammars, as there is a grammar or structure by which identity is formed. Each of these three identity management types (lifestyler, commuter, and centaur) corresponds with a grammatical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Using detail and supposed thoughts. John Smith s work can nearly be titled as a noveland has been passed down through newer versions, such as Disney s Pocahontas or Avatar. However, John and Bradford both agree on one issue: The New World should be inhabited and settled, and good, hard working men should fill its fertile land. • 33. Capitalism During The Great Depression For example, when a good is scarce, the prices goes up, so consumers try to avoid buying and therefore conserving the resource. Then, the suppliers want to find more of the source as to get a better profit. The reasons behind their actions are selfish, yet they benefit all of society. Smith identified that the pursuit of profit and the power of self interest would increase motivation and result in more advances in technology. His model of capitalism was on the basis of freedom and selfishness as a motivator for society. It was also on the basis that the economy would go through recessions and expansions but fix itself. Recessions are periods in the economy in which unemployment goes up, while profits and spending goes down; a slowdown of the economy. An expansion is essentially the exact opposite. The classical model of economics states that the economy will continue to go through these fluctuations over time and will fix itself with no help, thus not needing a government to give influence. Eventually, however, The Great Depression happened, and there was no end in sight of the dramatic recession. The Great Depression was a widespread crash of the market that happened in 1929 and lasted well into the 1930 s. For a long time, no one knew why it had happened or when it would be over. Often considered capitalism s savior, John Maynard Keynes noticed the lengthy depression and realized that something was causing it to be stuck. He thought that the economy was not going to pick ... In the novel Blindness, Jose Saramago depicts and demonstrates how in an instant your right to see can be taken in an instant. However, in this novel, blindnessis metaphorically related to seeing the truth beyond our own bias opinions. If the patient does not feel a sense of hospitality and see a welcoming smile, it discourages the patient to visit the physician because they feel they are not getting the right medical attention, and tend to be sicker. In addition, the sicker individual risk exposure to more insults, and this leads them to pull back from the health care system (119). After a successful landing for the crew, the men held to each other s elbows, suddenly unable to breathe, it seemed. Their faces grew pale. (Bradbury 33). The men were filled with fear as to what they saw: Mars looked exactly like the old town on Earth they all grew up in. This portrayal of setting develops the fear of the unknown because it is the exact opposite of what Mars was believed to look like. Bradbury goes on to set this expedition in context chronologically with the previous two mission. Some of the men believed that Captain Williams and his crew of three men! • 36. Life Cycle Assessment ( Lca ) 1.Introduction Background The built environment as a whole is said to contribute about half the greenhouse gas emissions in the world (UNEF 2007). Specifically, considering the less studied area of construction emissions, research shows that this component accounts for as much as 11.7% of emissions inclusive of direct and indirect emissions (Acquaye Duffy 2010). As such it has significant impact on the environment and represents a major opportunity to study potential reductions. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is one of the techniques that is used in order to quantify and improve the sustainability of buildings with respect to the efficiency of energy utilized in that building. The energy emissions can be subdivided into embodied energy and operating energy based on the energy required in the construction, operation, maintenance or demolition of buildings (Ramesh, Prakash Shukla 2010). Most of the emphasis in this research area has been given to the operating energy of the buildings, although there has been some research that has been carried out on the energy emissions due to physical waste arising from the renovation or demolition of the buildings (Blengini 2009; Coelho de Brito 2012). For example, NABERS is an energy monitoring program that is being used in Australia to quantify operating energy. Operating energy forms the vast majority of the greenhouse gas emissions in the life cycle of any office building while the contribution of embodied energy towards the ... Precautions are taken on gun control, such as keeping a permanent record of all gun sales, requiring a license and certain mental certifications, and only allowing certain guns to be distributed to the public. Although some may argue that they can also be used to kill the innocent, the removal of guns from the possession of certified citizens will not stop crime, murder, or the death of innocents because guns are not the only weapons capable of these deaths. While it is rare, scurvy does occur and it is incredibly treatable. The symptoms are reversible and treatment is easy with the right amount of vitamin Cadded to the diet to offset what has been missing. Scurvy is a disease that has been around since ancient times. Originally, there were many different ideas about what caused scurvy. Genetics, toxins, the environment, and infections were among many of the explanations for scurvy. Of all the people afflicted with scurvy, the most numerous were sailors. Surgeons and doctors out at sea with the sailors were among the first to be able to describe the disease in clinical detail and find a treatment that was effective in clearing up scurvy. Sir James Lind, a surgeon for the British Navy, has been credited with finding an easy way to treat scurvy; with lemons and oranges. While scurvy was extremely common while out at sea, cases still came about on land as well.
