The Sports Career of Sammy Sosa
Sammy Sosa was a baseball player for the Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers, and the Chicago White Sox.
Sammy Sosa gave the nation a lot of entertainment with the competition he had with another baseball
player. He had his reputation ruined, but never did give up baseball. Even though he did not win the
bet, Sammy was not a sore loser. Sammy Sosa was the right fielder for the Chicago Cubs who had hit
more than 100 home runs in 2 seasons. (http://search.ebscohost.com) Sammy s mom, Mireya Sosa,
was born in the Dominican Republic, and she couldn t work for herself, all the money went to her
family. She married at a young age, but it ended in a divorce. She took her son Louis, and left to find a
job. She later on took the job as a maid. Sammy was the fifth child, and he got the nickname Mikey
from his grandmother. Sammy s stepfather had died of massive bleeding in the brain. He had worked
for his family ever since then, and he never did give up. Even though he did not have a mitt or ball,
Sammy had used a milk carton as a mitt, and rolled up socks as the ball. (Susan Korman 13 14)
Sammy had played with two American leagues, then a national league. He had first played with the
Texas rangers which was his first American league team, then he went to the Chicago White Sox. His
first and only national league team was the Chicago Cubs. He then played with the Baltimore Orioles
for one season. Then, he went back to the Texas Rangers in June. After that he had retired that month.

Han Dynasty Essay
The Han Dynasty, the second imperial dynasty of Ancient China, was prosperous and innovative. The
scientific development was extremely advanced for the time, and inventions such as the seismometer,
sundial, and wheelbarrow greatly improved Ancient Chinese life (Cartwright Achievements , 2017).
However, perhaps the most important invention of the Han Dynasty was paper. Paper affected
countless areas of Ancient Chinese life by transforming the way information and art were recorded,
consumed, and stored.
While the origins of paper are unknown, its predecessors were flawed and in need of a replacement.
The invention of paper is attributed to Cai Lun, a Han government worker, who created the first true
paper in AD 105 (Greenling 2017, 51). However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Former Encyclopædia Britannica editor Kenneth Pletcher described the record keeping of the Han
administration, Han administration required detailed record keeping, which generated a proliferation
of documents. Official returns were sometimes kept in duplicate, and each agency kept running files to
record its business (Pletcher 2010, 79). Bulky bamboo or expensive silk were impractical for this kind
of meticulous record keeping, but official documents were recorded and stored easily because of the
invention of paper. The Han government had also taken an interest in literary accomplishment and
scholastic competence for the Ancient Chinese people, likely as a result of the invention of paper
(Pletcher 2010, 79). Alexander Monro wrote about how the books of Han Dynasty became the guiding
stars of Chinese education, governance, and philosophy (Monro 2016, 44). The four classic texts, the
Shijing, the Shujing, the Yijing, and the Chunqiu, were of such extreme importance to the Han
government that in order to make an argument before the throne, a statesman would [have to] find a
relevant quotation from these works (Pletcher 2010, 79). The four texts were also probably carved into
stone and copied by using the stone rubbing method as mentioned before, giving the general public

Spectracide Analysis
Spectracide is a common insecticide, its active ingredient is malathion. Malathion is an
organophosphate that has been registered for use in the United States since 1956. In 2012, 1 3 million
pounds of malathion were sold (EPA). Malathion functions by inhibiting the enzyme,
acetylcholinesterase, by phosphorylation of the serine residue at the active site of the enzyme (EPA,
2016). This inhibition causes acetylcholine accumulation which leads to neurotoxicity in the central
nervous system and peripheral nervous system (EPA, 2016). Malathion has been previously shown to
increase the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase with increased time of exposure (Krstic et. al. 2008). As

Srutinize The Quote From Heilbroner And Milberg
Scrutinize the Quote from Heilbroner/Milberg The evolution of the market economy has its roots in
tradition and command systems. Even today, market economies rely on practices that have a
resemblance to those of the middle ages and antiquity. If a person of yester years were exposed to the
workings of the free market, they would be baffled with how resources are allocated to the right places
especially labor and production. The beginnings of the economic society are traced to the relatable but
separate problems that the society faced: the production of sufficient goods and services that would
ensure the survival of the society and the organization of production output to make certain that there
is more production (Heilbroner and Milberg 4). All medieval societies sought for ways to deal with
these problems. Through history, humankind has tried to solve the problems of production and
distribution in three ways: tradition, command and market economies (Heilbroner and Milberg 6). All
these solutions are relatable to each other with some aspects of each overarching on the others. For the
tradition solution, it focused on solving the issue of production. Each member of the society had their
role predefined similar to their parents occupations. Notably, sons ... Show more content on

Annotated Bibliography For Homeschooling
Annotated Bibliography for Homeschooling
Education in our society is a very important factor in shaping our future. One s future is depended on
the education they receive and everyone is somehow affected by this. Children from the ages of
kindergarteners to seniors in high school, college graduates, and stay at home mothers, are all shaped
by the education the government provides us. There are many different ways to acquire an education
some through private schools, public, charter, and being homeschooled. However, homeschooling is
growing more in popularity than it has ever been.
Brown, Dave F. Why America s Public Schools Are the Best Place for Kids: Reality vs. Negative
Perceptions. Lanham, Md., Rowman Amp; Littlefield Education, 2012.
In Brown s book, he goes into complete detail of how the service of public schools came into our lives
and why it is so important. Our founding fathers insisted that the government provide thirteen years of
education to every individual. Public schooling has come a long way and it provides all students the
insightful education that is desired . Teacher who teach at public schools provide the correct incentives
and learning experiences to engage all students throughout their thirteen years of education. This free
service the government provides us should not be taken for granted, realizing that other countries do
not provide thirteen years of free education. He states that everyone should honor and preserve the gift

Green Tea As A Treatment For Cancer
In 2737 B.C., the day was pleasant as Emperor Shen Nung sat beneath a tree sipping hot water. The
slight breeze rippled through the tree above him, sending twirling leaves cascading all around him.
Sipping his tea, he noticed a leaf had fallen into it, changing the color slightly and giving the hot water
a slightly bitter, yet refreshing taste (Nerz Stormes).
Whether or not this ledged depicting how tea was discovered is true, it sets the stage for the deep
history and tradition that revolves around this world wide drink. Cultures that consume green tea have
believed in its healing properties and treated it as both a beverage and a medicine for countless
generations. Within these cultures, its common belief that green tea can increase longevity, treat
diabetes, and even prevent cancer. The question that really got me interested in the direction of this
topic was does green tea really have the ability to prevent or work as a treatment for cancer.
Green tea has been a major part of Japanese cultures throughout history, both for leisure as well as
medicine. There are people who devote their lives to learning The Way of Tea, a long ceremony that
involves brewing and sharing tea with guests as well as appreciated nature. In recent years, some
researchers aware of the correlation between Japanese culture and longevity started doing scientific
research on its validity in terms of medicine. The antioxidants, specifically catchins, as well as the

Ernest Hemingway Essay
Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway was a great American author. He was a giant of modern literature. Hemingway
was born on July 21, 1899. He was the first son of Clarence and Grace Hall Hemingway and the
second of their six children. Hemingway s gather was a doctor and his mother was a music teacher.
Hemingway s parents owned a cabin in northern Michigan where he spent most of his summers
hunting and fishing, being separated from the rest of middle class society. Hemiongway s mother was

A lot of Hemingway s stories relate to the war somehow, whether it is directly or indirectly or through
symbolism. He normally writes about himself too. The main character, in some way, is usually he. I
believe that having a rough childhood and not the best of luck with the ladies left Hemingway without
anyone to talk to. After witnessing so much death and destruction, he couldn t just keep that all bottled
up inside. So I think that his stories that are about the war, is his way of getting all of this death and
destruction off of his chest. It is a way for him to talk about what he went through. Take his story Big
Two Hearted River for example. That story right there is about himself. He was expressing how he
feels through Nick. In this story, the character, nick, describes the town he sees as burned over, and all
of the buildings burnt right down to their chipped foundation, nothing was left. What Hemingway was
describing here is the war, but in a way his own self, his soul. He had been burnt down, right to his
chipped foundation. Hemingway uses the character Nick to represent himself. Hemingway writes
stories with Nick, using it as a way to heal, a way to get all of these feelings he has from the war to the
surface. Hemingway knows that he can t be totally hurt by the war, he knows that there has to be
something left in him and that is what e is looking for.

The Stereotypes Of Disney s Hidden Glass Ceiling
Royal diversity Disney s Hidden Glass Ceiling What is the glass ceiling? How can we change it? And
where does Disney fit into this? One of the earliest citation came from the magazine world in 1984. It
was basically about women who reach a certain point in middle management where they get stuck and
they are unable to move forward. Since then the definition has broadened it s become a metaphor that
represents an invisible barrier that keeps a given demographic (usually women and minorities) from
rising beyond. Believe it or not, Disney has contributed its fair share to this with some of its beloved
animated princess movies. Most of them featured the helpless female who eventually finds their prince
charming, who then sweeps her off her feet, then suddenly her whole life changes she lives happily
ever after. Sadly, that sends a message to our young girls that to have happiness and a purpose they
need to have a man to achieve that. Disney has had some success with moving away from female
passivity in stories featuring white characters. In Mulan and the princess and the frog, Disney did not
achieve gender or racial equality. The Disney franchise is a powerful force in the lives of young girls,
especially girls of color seeking same race role models in the public eye (. Dundes, Streiff, 2016, p1).
By unveiling Disney s hidden glass ceiling, we can start to get a more realistic view of our children s
movies and start to distance ourselves from racial, sexism,

The Pros And Cons Of The Prohibition Era
The Prohibition Era, 1920 1933, was a time of turmoil and conflict as the ban of alcohol brought with
it the growth of organized crime in United States. The nationwide prohibition of alcohol was
introduced to solve social issues and most significantly, lower crime and corruption. Initially
established due to nationwide Temperance movements stating that banning alcohol would decrease
crime, however the banning of alcohol led to increased organized crime. Organized crime in America
grew during Prohibition due to the mafia, gangs and the mob utilizing the public demand for alcohol
for their own economic gain, bootlegging alcohol, using extortion and violence, all in is larger
quantities than was present before the 18th Amendment was passed. A Public demand for alcohol and
lack of enforcement of the 18th Amendment led to such an unsuccessful movement and eventually the
first United States Constitution Amendment to be repealed fully. The results of the 13 year noble

How People Respond to Interpersonal Rejections Essay
The desire for positive social relationships is one of the most fundamental and universal human needs.
This need has a deep root in evolutionary history in relation to mating and natural selection and this
can exert a powerful impact on contemporary human psychological processes (Baumeister Leary
1995). Failure to satisfy these needs can bear devastating consequences on the psychological well
being of an individual. These needs might not be satisfied as rejection, isolation, and ostracism occurs
on a daily basis to people. Although being ignored and excluded is a pervasive circumstance present
throughout history across species, and humans of all ages and cultures i.e the use of Ostracism (the
feeling of isolation and exclusion) has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the evaluation of the hierarchy of needs it represents that positive interpersonal relationships are
at the core of existence just as much as physiological needs. Since the basis of human existence is
supported by the hierarchy of needs its important to discuss what happens when aspects of this is non
existent i.e interpersonal relationships. Research that has developed is extensive as to how ostracism
has and is being used to marginalize individuals and groups and the consequences this can have on the
individual and society. The primary research of Ostracism began with studies that provided a
foundation by studying how individuals react to being ostracised by a few others which provided
sources for understanding how minorities would feel if they were to be marginalized by a dominant
society (Carter Sowell 2008). The primary research within ostracism was central to psychological and
emotional responses. One of the first paradigms developed was the ball toss paradigm by Williams
and Sommer in 1997. This experiment stimulated the victim to feel ostracized because the participants
would toss the ball to each other and then after a period of time the participant would be left out
causing them to feel rejected. More modern approaches to stimulating ostracism include the O train by
Zadro et al in 2005, 2006 and the Scarlet letter study by Ambady et al 2000. Although all of these
studies took different approaches the outcomes were consistent with the

Ocean Acidification:
How the Ocean s Declining pH is Destroying Our Environment
Sometimes called climate change s equivalently destructive twin , ocean acidification is becoming
more and more noticeable as the seawater s changing chemistry begins to cause environmental and
economical problems. When the Industrial Revolution began around 1760, fossil fuel powered
machines gained an immense amount of accessibility and popularity. Since then, carbon dioxide
(CO2) levels in the atmosphere have risen enough to change the pH of the world s oceans. Given that
the ocean absorbs almost half of the CO2 that is released into our atmosphere, ocean acidification is
inclining into an even greater problem as fossil fuels become a more common energy source in our
society. Higher acid levels can harm wildlife, disrupt the food chain, and negatively impact industries
that rely on the ocean for business. Ocean acidification is causing growing dilemmas for both marine
ecosystems and ocean based economies. Although many companies and organizations are attempting
to fix this problem, acidification is still threatening to cause increasingly harmful issues for the future.
Ocean acidification is the constant increase of acidity in the Earth s oceans, caused by the unceasingly
rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Anthropogenic CO2 is mainly emitted by the
burning of fossil fuels, including coal, oil, and natural gas. Since the

Computer chips are widely used today in computers, phones, tablets, and other electronics. The high
demand for computer chips requires a manufacturing process that is accurate as well as efficient. In
the past, chips have been manufactured out of many different materials including copper oxide and
germanium. Today, computer chips are manufactured using silicon due to its versatility as a
semiconductor and how readily available it is in the environment. This paper includes how silicon

Different combinations of n and p type doping are used to create electronic components such as
transistors, capacitors, and diodes. Silicon became the top semiconductor in the 1960s due to the oxide
layer it forms, its ability to perform at higher temperatures, and its availability in nature. When
exposed to air, silicon forms a silicon dioxide layer on its surface that serves as an excellent insulator
allowing for small interference between different components. Compared to germanium, silicon is
able to perform at higher temperatures which becomes important when there are several different
components on a chip operating and generating heat. Silicon is also readily available in nature, as it is
a main component in sand whereas germanium is difficult to extract in large quantities making it more
expensive. Computer processors and graphics processors have become increasingly advanced over the
past 15 years, and require a process that is able to lay billions of transistors in a short amount of time.
This process starts out with a silicon wafer, which is made from sand that it is melted down and
extruded into a cylinder of perfect silicon lattices. This cylinder is cut into several eighteen inch
diameter disks that are close to one millimeter thick. The silicon wafer is then annealed to remove the
internal stresses of the lattice and then an

Anthropogenic Noise Pollution And Its Effects On Cetaceans
Anthropogenic Noise Pollution and Its Effects on Cetaceans
Cetaceans use sound extensively in both communication, hunting, and navigation. However as
humanity continues to make use of the ocean we are constantly filling it with equipment that produces
high amounts of sound. These devices are starting to have an impact on cetaceans worldwide, from
mass strandings often linked to military exercises to area denials caused by busy commercial shipping
lanes and seismic surveys. If consideration is not taken towards this problem now it could develop into
something that could have degrading effects on cetacean populations in the future. Sound waves are
nothing more than an energy transfer through a medium be it through a liquid, solid, or a gas. Sound
pressure or intensity is measured on logarithmic scale in decibels dB which increases on an order of
magnitude. For instance a quiet conversation would be around 30 dB and whereas the human pain
threshold would be just over 100 dB. While the pitch or frequency of the sound is measured in hertz or
Hz, the higher the hertz the higher the pitch of the sound and vice versa (Hildebrand, 2004).
Anthropologic noise pollution can come from many different sources, some of the more common ones
are commercial shipping, acoustic deterrent devices, military sonar, and explosives (used in some
seismic surveys for oil and gas as well as military exercises). The main focus will be on military sonar
use, seismic surveys, and acoustic deterrent

War-Time Propaganda
As an art form, one could consider film to fall under Plato s consideration of art as an imitator of
nature and third removed from the truth (Plato, The Republic Book X, 360 BC). Like the painter who
paints the carpenter s work, the filmmaker can only portray an image that already exists. To call art a
mirror image of nature would imply that art including film shows all things exactly as they are in real
life. This is not true because the filmmaker can also be selective and perhaps deceptive in what parts
of the image that the film mirrors, picking and choosing aspects of the images to portray their own
ideas. Holding a mirror up implies that everything is being shown for what it truly is in its purest form
and it is for this reason that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The year is 1910 and the words on the title screen are addressed to the eager, helpful women of our
country who think they are doing their utmost to help (Huntley Film Archives), urging them Don t

goes on to show a woman sitting eating chocolates amid the terrific clash and bang of battle before
cutting to shots of soldiers in training then describing her actions as thoughtless as she buys new hats
disregarding price and need (Huntley Film Archives). The woman is then shown trying on hats with a
sales clerk nearby. She decides on a hat and gives the sales clerk money for it. The sales clerk is

Active Listening Can Be Described In Brief As Listening
Active listening can be described in brief as listening to a person carefully and with an open mind,
which endeavors to fetch a grasp of the other on a greatly profound level. Guidelines for active
listening is to give people your attention, be ready to paraphrase, use questions if you don t
understand, acknowledge the others person feelings, encourage if the other person appears uncertain,
do not react or respond in other ways until it is clear that the other person has finished. (The role of
Active listening in conflict resolution, 2012). [1] For example, you are the accounting manager of a

Clarification includes questions that seek to clear uncertainties and fetch more understanding of the
other person s intentions and fears. Misunderstood or inadequate information is the main barrier to
understanding; that s why clarification is important. After that, you should recognize the other person s
feelings. This is called digging. It concentrates on the feelings of a person without making them the
clear focus of the argument. Observing emotional reactions adds a further aspect to the understanding
of a person s situation. It is mainly helpful when there seems to be an inconsistency between the
content of a message and the person s feelings as it permits us to discover the speaker s actual
approach toward a subject. Subsequently, you should see if the other person seems to be doubtful or
uncertain. You should acknowledge the feelings that a person is experiencing as it is an influential
evidence of our awareness and serious attempt to understand his situation. (The role of Active
listening in conflict resolution, 2012). [3] Once more, it s essential that, once these workers are
required to resolve their arguments, you should attempt to understand their feelings and make them
feel noticed. If the accounting division is small and you cannot reschedule employees or workers
straightforwardly, you may think of modifying their work structure, so they should not work together
as much as possible. This is not perfect in most cases, but it s a tiny compromise to

Sumarian Beliefs
History
In the southernmost region of ancient Mesopotamia laid the land of Sumer. Many believe that it is the
cradle of civilization. The name Sumer comes from the language of Northern Mesopotamia known as
Akkadian. It translates as the land of civilized kings . The Sumerians referred to themselves as the
black headed people and the thier home was simply the land . The biblical Book of Genius makes
mention of this area calling it Shinar. We know the land today to be southern Iraq.
Archeologists believe Sumer was settled somewhere between 4500 to 4000 BC. They developed thier
culture in the form of city states. Known city states are Ur, Kish, Eridu, Lagash, Nippur and Urak.
Urak is regarded as the first true city.

The music that has been found is difficult to convert to modern music. The staff notation that we use
today did not exist in ancient Sumer. They utilized a system of words or intervals followed by
numbers to identify pitch. We had no idea what interval matched what pitch. It was decided that we
would base the intervals off the tones made from replicas of ancient instruments. The Sumerian music
system is based around the lyre (a type of portable harp) that had nine strings just like contemporary
harps. Each string was tuned a step above or below the next string. The Sumerian scale had seven
notes in it just like a modern scale. The Sumerians gave their scales names just as we do today.
However, we do not know what the Sumerian scale names translate to. In other words, we do not
know the mode. Melodies today are made by assigning each note a specific pitch. Sumerian notation
gives each note a certain interval followed by a number. This is confusing. Does the number mean that
we play the interval a certain number of times? Do we play the same interval an octave apart at the
exact same time? No one knows for sure. Most scholars do not think that it means to play the intervals
simultaneously. That would make the music polyphonic. Polyphony in music was not truly seen until
1000 AD, 2000 years after Sumerian music was

not common in the Vulcan culture meaning it s not as normal to show much emotion in their culture.
Vulcan do have emotions but they are very controlled so they are almost portrayed as robotic people.
Though Spock is half human he usually takes after the Vulcan side meaning he is more on the left
hemisphere of thinking. This means he is more logical in his thinking and less on the creative right
hemisphere. This becomes a increasing problem throughout the series. In the beginning of the movie
Spock in sent to stop a volcano for erupting and killing a undeveloped civilization. Things go wrong

Examples Of Morally Ambiguous Characters In The Crucible
Morally ambiguous characters are seen all throughout different works of literature. In The Crucible by
Arthur Miller, Reverend Hale can be considered a morally ambiguous character because of the actions
he takes throughout the play. Reverend Hale can be considered morally ambiguous because he helps
capture the accused witches but he consoles them as he is doing it and is reassuring them that
everything will be okay. This can be taken as morally ambiguous because he is considered evil for
going around and arresting the accused without proof that isn t an accusation and taking part in the
witch hunts in general, but he is also making them feel better by telling them that they will be okay,
which also gives him good quality. An example of this is when he arrests Rebecca Nurse. When he is
arresting her and taking her into custody, he is telling her that it breaks his heart to capture her like that
but they must because they cannot be sure that the Devil doesn t rest inside of her. This shows that
Reverend Hale believes that the witches are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the witchhunt first began, Reverend Hale believed that if the witches were removed from the
village it would help the village become more unified and it will turn the devil away frm everyone else

brushes off the that the Giles has evidence to support that his wife is not apart of the witchcraft and he
won t listen to it. So this shows that Reverend Hale went from believing that most of the accused are
actually witches to believing that they deserve a fair trial and all evidence that anybody might have

The Battle Of Elsenborn Ridge
Battle of Elsenborn Ridge
The winter in the Ardennes is very cold; American Soldiers beaten, bloodied and depleting in
numbers. Germany has massed their best Soldiers from the Twelfth SS Panzer Division fielding the
newest and deadliest Armored Fighting vehicles the world had ever seen. However, the Americans
have an ace in the hole, The United States Army Field Artillery has made some historic and very
deadly innovations. In order to defend the Northern shoulder from being overrun by the 1st SS Panzer
Corps and the 67th Corps, the 405th FA Battalion must utilize their fortified fighting positions to
capitalize on the advancing enemy, synchronize and mass their firing capability, and utilize a newly
developed secret weapon called the Proximity Fuze to prevent the German forces from obtaining a
supply through the Twin Villages.
For seven days, the Battle of Elsenborn Ridge was valorously held by the artillery forces and Infantry
forces of the United States Army. (Starmann R. , 2015). This battle was the greatest crushing victory
of the Ardennes valley and is the only part of the Battle of the Bulge line where the Germans failed to
advance. (Starmann R. , 2015). From this ridge, the United States forces were extremely trenched in.
They used the few days leading up to this battle to maneuver more units to the ridge to help protect the
Germans from securing the two villages. These villages were critical to the Germans because without
them they would not be able to resupply

Comparing Inequality In Eve And Samson Agonist By...
Inequality is a struggle that women have felt since the beginning of time, and an issue that still plagues
women today. Women are consistently reduced to their looks or the tasks they are able to complete,
and often their intellect and talents are ignored. Milton grapples the topic in both of his works,
Paradise Lost with Adam and Eve, and Samson Agonists with Samson and Dalila. Both Eve and
Dalila are presented as unequal characters when compared to Adam and Samson, making them both
more susceptible to the advances of evil forces. Each woman individually faces temptation and fails to
supersede it, causing not only the fall for themselves, but the fall for their husbands as well. For Eve,
her fall fates not only Adam but the entire humanity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If Milton situated the woman as equal to their husbands and as helpmates instead of companions then
the likelihood of them falling would have decreased greatly. However, because of their inequality it
opened sin up to being a viable temptation. Milton had to present them as unequal beings to be able to
justify their fall and in return ultimately place the blame on God as a whole. Milton s central theme
seems to suggest that if God would have just created men and women equal to begin with then they
would not have fallen. This is easily seen in Paradise Lost, but when examining Samson Agonists, it is
evident there as well, since Dalila is part of the Philistinians, a race that God sent Samson to destroy,
making them unequal. Therefore, it can be assumed that Milton presents Eve and Dalila the way he
does in order to justify the fall and attempt to make sense of why humanity had to fall even though it
was created by an omnipotent

I believe that the impact generated by this element towards the entertainment industry is significant,
principally in music. As people may have witnessed, the music industry has been a direct victim of the
digital era and piracy, leaving many questions about what might happen and forcing industry experts,
labels, artists and entrepreneurs to re think their marketing strategies and re invent themselves. As a
result, Streaming services like Pandora, Apple ITunes Match or Spotify came to the world as several
options for music consumption, yet I believe they are artist unfriendly, especially for emerging acts.
When a user wants to subscribe into any of these services, they are required to enter their credit card
details. In the case of Spotify, artists earn the sum of 0.07 cents per streaming; this means that they
will need around 50.000 plays to get $3.500. Unfavorable...
Is the action of paying by credit card through streaming services becoming the executioner of physical
sales? There is no certainty about that, yet it is evident that this invention has influenced in a way
people s behavior, a behavior that has made undoubtedly an impact on the entertainment industry. On
the other hand, there is still the old fashioned way merged with a digital era creation: ITunes store.

Reflection Of My Field Placement

quality education. School Lane is an inclusive school, which means that students with or without
disabilities are able to learn together, in the most least restrictive environment. I am placed in a first
grade classroom this semester in Ms. Cameron s room. The student who I chose to observe is Ben.
Mrs. Cameron picked this student for me because it appears that he has some academic struggles

However, he has yet to be evaluated thus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After reading the short story as a whole, Ms. Cameron then wanted the students to read independently.
I saw Ben using skills such as, pointing to the words as he read them. However, he often pointed
twice, or skipped pointing to particular words altogether. In addition to this, while reading Ben
omitted and added new words without self correction. This made me think that this was his way of
trying to understand the text. This also leads me to believe that Ben is having some difficulty with
word recognition and fluency/pace. When Ben read the book the second time he used the pictures to
read the story with no regard for the text. This tells me that he is able to interpret the pictures in order
to understand the story when he is not able to read the sentences.
The second lesson I observed was geared towards phonemes, segmenting and blending. Ms. Cameron
did a lot of modeling before this lesson. Although I have only been in her class twice, I can tell she is a
firm believer in the I do, we do, you do method. Ms. Cameron gathered all the students on the rug and
showed the class how to tap out different sounds of the letters in words like sit, mud, sad using their
fingertips. Ben did not participate in this for the majority of the guided practice. I believe that this was
due to Ben s lack of attention during the instruction. He was rocking back and forth in his spot, in
addition to curling his legs

Baseball Operations For The Chicago Cubs
There are an increasing number of people rising up and looking to revolutionize baseball as we know
it. These people, called sabermatricians, come wielding spreadsheets and calculators as their weapons
of choice. Innovators like them are beginning to view baseball through a different set of lenses than
the rest. Others have looked through statistical glasses or scouting spectacles, but their vision has
never been optimal. People like them have the correct lenses, but they have not been using the lenses
in the proper context. Theo Epstein, the President of Baseball Operations for the Chicago Cubs, once
said that stats and scouting are two lenses of the same pair of glasses, and that the pair of glasses is
called sabermetrics, and these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These advanced metrics also provided much overdue improvements to old methods of baseball
research. Old timey statistics are inputted to the sabes machine, and the new output is quantified
baseball players performances based on objective statistical measurements, especially in opposition to
many of the established statistics (such as, for example, runs batted in and pitching wins) that give less
accurate approximations of individual efficacy (Never, Sabermetrics ). This revolution has given
statistics a more clear meaning and true, measurable value for the first time. Scouting as well has been
improved upon, as the five tools scouts grade on now have that measured value that scouts may refer
to when making notes or personnel decisions.
Statistics, specifically how they measure and control data, as well as help us learn from it, has and
always will be a part of baseball ( What is statistics ). Stats are very, very useful for many purposes in
the sport, and can help keep some analysis simplistic. The most effective use of stats in baseball is the
comparison between teammates within the same season. Within these parameters, the numbers come
from very similar environments, as the teammates are playing against the same teams in the same
ballparks at the same time. There are no outside factors potentially skewing the

Analysis Of Annette Lareau s Unequal Childhoods
After reading Annette Lareau s book, Unequal Childhoods , I gain a better understanding of how my
childhood affected the person I am today and the person I will become. This book categorizes
Americans in classes of poor class, working class, and middle class; Lareau studies multiple families
in each of these classes, including different races. In the following essay, I will apply the same
concepts Lareau used in her book to my own life.
Daily Life My Mother, Dawn, grew up in a working class family with her parents separated and trying
to make ends meet with her Dad and two siblings. She graduated high school and went on to work at
McDonalds for a few years, before she got married. My father, Jerry, grew up poor moving different
houses every year with his mom, step dad, and five other siblings. His father died when he was three
and his step father died when he was about thirteen. Jerry dropped out of high school without
completing the ninth grade so he could work to provide for his mom and other siblings. Dawn and
Jerry married and had their first child in 1988, a daughter named Brittany. In the same year my family
moved into a predominantly white neighborhood in the town of Okalona, right by the busy streets of
Preston Highway and Outer Loop. The house is brick and was built in the early 1940 s, it is two
stories with four bedrooms and two baths, with two garages, a swimming pool, and big back yard, the
house sits on .94 acres of land. Jerry worked as a painter in the union since he was 16 and always had
the aspirations of owning his own business. Dawn stayed home to care for the home and the children.
Two years after Brittany was born, they had another daughter named Ashley in January of 1990. At
this point Jerry was still working at the Union as a painter and was attempting to start his own painting
business. In 1993, Jerry was contracted with a construction company building 20 new houses a year,
this was the start of his painting company. All through the 90 s and early 2000 s Jerry and his paint
crew were working seven days a week painting store after store and house after house. He had three
work vans and two nine man crews going non stop. This is what led the family s social class to

Periodontitis Essay
Periodontitis is defined as an inflammatory disease of the supporting tissues of the teeth caused by
specific microorganisms or groups of specific microorganisms, resulting in progressive destruction of
the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone with pocket formation, recession or both. 1 Periodontal
diseaseisan ubiquitous infection in humans displaying the classic hallmarks of the inflammatory
response. Late sequelaeof periodontal diseases are the loss of alveolar bone,,mobile teeth leading to a
demolished periodontium. Therefore, earlier detection and treatment leads to improved outcomes for
patients.2
The main transgressors in Periodontal diseases are gram negative bacteria that elicit a host response,
which cause an aftermath of osseous and soft tissue destruction. The host response plays the role of a
second fiddle through mediators like proteinases, cytokines and prostaglandins causing severe tissue
loss.2 Cytokines are the linchpins in mediating numerous biological activities including proliferation,

Yellow Face Play Summary
This paper is a critique of the adaptation of David Henry Hwang s Yellow Face, a semi
autobiographical play, adapted and directed by Jeff Liu. This play was produced by the YOMYOMF
Network and was performed through the video sharing website Youtube. The plotline follows the
misadventures of an Asian American playwright named David Henry Hwang, the protagonist of the
play who is played by Ryan Yu. Throughout the play, Yu s character leads a protest against yellow face
casting which only ends up in failure and embarrassment. Furthermore, he ends up mistakenly cast a

He was able to accomplish this task by continuously displaying his professional skills as an actor with
correctly using his voice, adjustable facial expressions, and great articulation. For example, in Act II,
Yu wanted to display disdain toward Gorham s character comment about the Chinese community and
he achieved this by using a booming, assertive voice. Moreover, in this scene he also used exaggerated
gestures by swinging his arms and twisting his hands. In relation to facial expressions, Yu strayed
away from revealing dull, long face by endlessly using adaptive, cheeky facials instead. In particular,
during Act I, Yu was having a conversation with his father and was getting confused by his father s
statements. He demonstrated his bewilderment by using a quizzical, baffled facial expression with
inquiring eyes and slightly opening his mouth which begged his father to clarify himself. Additionally,
Yu was discussing in the park with Karla Chang, who was performed by Linda Park and was Yu s
character s old love interest, about her boyfriend finally being caught as a fake Asian. Likewise, he
constantly slammed his hands in an aggressive manner on the bench and strolled across the area with
long strides in order to illustrate his satisfaction about her current situation. Towards the end of the
play, when Yu is describing his relationship with his father he is perceived to be nervous and this can
be seen through his rapid pace of speaking and his speedy walking back and

Analysis Of The Film Gibber Eidolon
Greetings from the Abyss. The name s Charles Chadwick, and for the last 7 years I have poured
thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of labor into my film Gibber Eidolon. The film is shot
entirely on black and white Super8 film, and uses a myriad of techniques. From hand painted film, to
video generation loss, to hand processing, to found footage and traditionally shot sequences.
The title of the film roughly translates to Babbling Ghost. Babbling from fear or shock. The Gibber
Eidolon is a being that is not quite there because it is suffused with terror. Its perspective is of diffused
chaos.
Concretely, the film is a tour of various San Francisco Bay Area graveyards; almost all of them have
residents going back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Also, the film contains live footage of historic
computer technology, both operational and not. Found footage/archival footage in this same vein is
used as well, in addition to appropriated visual material whose subject matter differs...used mainly for
metaphoric illustration. The work contains footage shot over the last 15 years, as well as found
footage acquired over a period of roughly 13 years.
This movie is first and foremost diaristic. It contains my life: the places I ve been and the way I ve
responded to them, and the ideas I ve had along the way. It is a work of spirit.
The film also is a collaboration between myself and my dear friend Matthew Bambas, who I ve been
working with both on films and music for nearly

Neocolonialism in Jamaica Essay
Neocolonialism in Jamaica: History, practices, and resistance
The imposition of structural adjustment programs in the Third World since the 1970s has been
characterized as a war against the poor, a process of [neo] recolonization (Turner, 1994: 37). This
statement is particularly applicable to the country of Jamaica. The island has been susceptible to a
variety of neocolonial acts including the presence of multinational corporations, structural adjustment
programs, and loan organizations that have sucked Jamaica s economy dry. This neocolonial presence
has devastated the population in more ways than one. It is apparent that neocolonialism has had and

Profound development began in 1660 when, after a five year struggle against the Spanish crown, the
British won power. There was a significant rise in population under British control. Their system
allowed the colony to prosper as they gave new European settlers land to cultivate sugar cane and
cocoa. The European planter has been described as a machine for making money (Waters, 1985: 22).
The purpose of this colonial economic system was to provide raw materials and goods for the Mother
Country. In addition, a general consumer market was developed to send wealth to Europe and allow
for capital accumulation, all for the benefit of the colonizers.
Slavery represents an important part of Jamaican history and the cultivated dominant atmosphere. For
one, plantations highly depended on slave labor to maximize profit margins. Between 1655 and 1808
one million slaves were forcefully brought to Jamaica (Waters, 1985: 21 23). Persaud (2001: 72)
suggests, the plantation system, the totality of institutional arrangements surrounding the production
and marketing of plantation crops, has seriously affected society in Jamaica . In other words, the slave
mode of production was a crucial factor in the establishment of Jamaica s structural society. Jamaica s
class structure today reflects its history as a colonial plantation society and its beginnings of industrial
development

causes a lack of the enzyme acid sphingomyelinase (ASM) which metabolizes sphingomyelin. When
there is an absence of sphingomyelinase the excess buildup of sphingomyelin kills multiple cells,
which leads to the stopping of organ function. The symptoms of Type A include: abdominal swelling,
redness in the eye, eating difficulties, and loss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the bodies inability to create the enzymes, the patient experiences a buildup of ganglioside
GM2, its derivative GA2, glopside, and oligosaccharides ultimately leading to the wrecking of the
central nervous system and then death. In a healthy baby, the enzyme would convert the ganglioside
into a non toxic. The three stages of Sandhoff disease are infantile form, juvenile form, and adult
form, clearly determined by the age category in which these symptoms present themselves. Placement
of the mutation, specifically the codons on the 14 exons in the HEXB gene inscribed in chromosome 5
of the genome, decide the form, and thus the severity of the disease. Moreover, the infantile and
juvenile form are observed to be a variation on exon 1207V pertaining to the father, along with a 16
base pair cancellation from the mother seen in up to 5 exons. Symptoms in the infantile form usually
appear within six months of birth and the patient can be expected to die within three years, usually
from a respiratory infection. Infantile form is the most severe, while juvenile and adult forms are rare.
The symptoms that will arise during the infantile form are: loss of muscle control and movement,
hearing loss, blindness, seizures, spasticity, macrephaly, red spots in the eye, respiratory infections,
organomegaly, doll like appearance, and myoclonus. Since it is hereditary, each parent must be a
carrier of the gene, resulting in a 25% chance that the child will inherit the disease. The juvenile form
begins with symptoms from ages three to ten, with the child living to be around 15. Symptoms for the
juvenile form include: autism, ataxia, loss of motor skills, spasticity, and various learning disorders.

Patient s Background
Patient s Background Sara is a 25 year old college graduate who joined the Peace Corps after
graduation as she was inspired by previous trips where she enjoyed the region and learned some of the
language. Completing her interview she was assigned to a two year post in Ethiopia, which was one of
the more difficult assignments. In the beginning, Sara keeps contact with friends and family through
emails weekly, which stayed consistent throughout the first year. However a couple of months into her
second year she stopped sending emails then around six months into her second year she returned to
the United States due to the Peace Corp feeling, she may be suffering from a severe case of
depression.

Grievance Sara recently wrote a letter to the hospital complaining about the administrative
communication and the lack of attention from the endocrinologist (Dr. Harris). Sara s individual
concerns and issues with each department are as follows:
Endocrinologist (Dr. Harris)
Dr. Harris addressed concerns after Sara s recovery over the phone rather than in person o
Communication issue Dr. Harris should have had Sara make an appointment for Monday or Tuesday
morning so she could explain and discuss her concerns with Sara face to face to ensure that Sara
understood her options clearly.
Dr. Harris told Sara she had three options to this concern after recovery then advised her to Google the
three options to help her make a decision rather than sitting down with Sara and discussing the merit
of each in her personal case scenario. o Communication issue This is not something that a doctor
should have the patient look up to understand rather an issue that should be clearly and efficiently
explained to the patient with the recommendation or their particular case noted to the patient.
Dr. Harris told Sara to call her on Monday morning as she was going out of town for the weekend,
which upset Sara, as Dr. Harris seemed very brief and did not give her much information. o

Southwest Savanna Environmental Analysis
The Southwest Savanna is characterized by the hilltops, rivers and valleys and steep wooded slopes
within the area. The average growing season in this part of southern Wisconsin is 153 days, making it
the fourth longest growing season of the different landscapes within the state (Wisconsin Department
of Natural Resources 2015). Of all the land in this section of Wisconsin, about 3.5% belongs to state,
county, or municipal governments; this includes the state parks, natural areas, and wildlife areas.
(Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources 2015). In the past, a majority of the forests in the
Southern Savanna burned frequently. These forests depended on the fires to help maintain the area and
return nutrients to the soil. In the mid 1800s, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Geologists have said that the deep granites are the roots of the mountains that were once here more
than two billion years ago (Belmont Mound State Park Geology). The sandstones and limestones, that
the mound is composed of, was originally deposited on top of the granite as the sea bottom of the sea
that once covered a major part southern Wisconsin (Belmont Mound State Park Geology). Since
Belmond Mound is in the Driftless area, the erosion patterns that carved southwestern Wisconsin are
what created the mound. Over the 400 million year erosion cycle, streams removed the sandstone
limestone, and dolomite from the southern part of Wisconsin (Belmont Mound State Park Geology).
The remains of these minerals in this region exist only as tiny remnants on the tops of the Blue, Platte,
Belmont and Sinsinawa mounds. If these mounds were not capped by the Niagara dolomite in the
area, they would have been cut down to the level of the lands surrounding them (Belmont Mound
State Park Geology). The Belmont Mound is an example of the southern mesic and dry mesic forests
in Wisconsin. The east central part of the woods is more mesic with sugar maple being the dominant
species while larger red oak, basswood, and white ash dominate the remainder, with some black
walnut mixed in (Belmont Mound Woods No. 167). The areas of the mound that were the focus of the
study were the Southern (day one) and Eastern (day two)

Avoid Burnout Analysis
To avoid burnout, a self care regiment would be utilized. I would do a number of things to try and
provide self care. I would make sure to eat three times a day making sure I consume the appropriate
nutrients. I would try to maintain a minimum of seven hours of sleep each day. I would also take an
hour out of my day for me time. I enjoy playing video games, listen to music, weight lifting, and
playing sports when I become too stressed out. I believe regular exercising reduces stress. I find taking
deep breaths in and out works for me and trying to relax whenever I get a chance. A big task to
accomplish is separating home stress from work stress. Try to use vacation time as well as sick leave
wisely. Plan vacations with friends or family members.

1967 Referendum In Australian History
The 1967 referendum was a remarkable event in Australian history due to it s impact on the
Indigenous people of Australia. It was the result of a call for change in the treatment of the Aborigines

sections of the Australian Constitution which deprived the Aborigines of their human rights. It aimed
to achieve an advancement in how the Aborigines were perceived and treated. Without the 1967
Referendum, Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders would not have the privileges which they are

Religious Conflicts in The Song of Roland
The French epic, The Song of Roland, relates the conflicts between Christians and Muslims in 778
A.D. In it, Charlemagne and his men, weary in their seventh year of battle against pagan forces in
Spain, have captured every heathen stronghold but the kingdom of Saragossa, held by the Muslim
king Marsile. Terrified of the might of Charlemagne s army, Marsile promises treasures, hostages and
his conversion to Christianity if the Franks will go back to France. However, Marsile has no intention
of surrendering and wants only for Charlemagne to end his siege of the city and get out of Spain.
Charlemagne does not trust Marsile but nevertheless accepts the proposal despite his nephew, Roland
s, objections. Roland nominates his stepfather, Ganelon, as a messenger to go back to Marsile s court.
Ganelon initially protests but is forced to accept the dangerous commission. He fears that he ll die in
the hands of the bloodthirsty pagans and publicly vows that, As long as I live, I shall have no love for
[Roland] (Song 39). Ganelon has long been jealous of Roland, and on his diplomatic mission he finds
an opportunity for revenge. Ganelon advises Marsile that the only way to make Charlemagne leave
Spain forever is to bring about Roland s death. Roland is Charlemagne s right hand in warfare;
without Roland, the Frankish king would despair and could not hope to conquer Spain. In collusion
with Marsile, Ganelon plots his revenge: he will see to it that Roland is given command of the rear

science, and mathematics. This period took place between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries. The
Renaissance in Italy flourished in the 15th century and spread throughout most of Europe in the 16th

Painters were not interested in making a picture realistic they did not use perspective. The more
important figures in the painting were frequently made larger than all the others, and often the element
of landscape was omitted completely. Members of the Holy Family for example, would be painted
against a background of shining gold, which signified the heavens. During the Renaissance, all that
changed. The period was characterized by a renewed interest in ancient Greek and Roman design and
included an emphasis on human beings and the environment. The secularism and humanism of the
Renaissance were reflected in its scholarship and education. Its concern was with this world rather
than the hereafter, and its focus was on pagan classics rather than Christian theology. The father Of
Renaissance literature, Petrarch, stressed that the new boarding schools were not to train priests but
the sons of merchants. The humanist movement was further stimulated by the influence of Byzantine
scholars who came to Italy after the fall of Constantinople (present day Istanbul) to the Turks in 1453
and also by the establishment of the Platonic Academy in Florence. The academy, whose leading
thinker was Marsillo Ficino, was founded by the 15th century Florentine statesman and patron of

then denmark surrendered to them.

I think the central conflict is real because in the 1940s the natis were sending families away and most
of the parents had to leave their kid with another family because the war was going on. Also it in that
time there was a lot of Soldiers at every corner of the block so it was unsafe for children to walk home
or be home by themselves.
V.
A. I think the author s purpose of writing this blog was because she wanted to tell the reader what life
was like in the 1940s in Germany and how hard it was to live because of the Nazis.
I think the author chose to write about this particular historical because a lot was going on during the
1940s like the war and the Nazi trying to get rid of the Jews. I also think the author chose to write
about this historical period because She was interested about how she had to live through the war and
through having to take random kids in that they didn t know anything about.
B. I think the theme or Central message is courage but also fear because you need to have courage to
face all the things that would come your way. The theme is also fear because even though you have to
have the courage to get through all those hard times but also you have to have fear because if you don
t have fear then you would not be able to have the courage to do those

dollar was close to an eight year shortage against the real, having lost more than 33% of its value
during 2009 alone. During the past 12 month era, the exchange rate of the U.S. dollar (USD) has
diverse from a low of BRL R $1.5310 to in height of BRL $1.7790. During 2010, the United States
dollar typically kept an everyday exchange rate between (BRL) R$1.70 and (BRL) R$1.80,
occasionally reducing below the (BRL) R$1.70 level.
However in 2011 it had so far been devastating to the dollar. Thru late July, 2011, the dollar dropped
as little as R $1.5310, its lowest level since way before 2008 when the global financial crisis began. In
April, 2010, the Brazilian Central Bank increased interest rates in the country, which took as its
outcome the alliance of the real and the weakening of the dollar. The real touched quarterly in height
of 1.7205 in April 2010, two days after the Brazilian Central Bank raised up the benchmark interest
rate 0.75 percentage point to 9.5 percent. Later at that time, the Brazilian Central Bank has raised the
standard interest rate to 12.5% in an effort to curb inflation. Although some do not see the central
Bank raising the00201interest rates again in 2011, there should be many who would think at least one
more raise of 0.25% before the end of 2011 if increase continues. Thanks to the huge capital inflows
due to the huge sale of Petro Bras shares, the Brazilian real has been on a tear as of late. Yet, it is not

  • 2. The Sports Career of Sammy Sosa Sammy Sosa was a baseball player for the Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers, and the Chicago White Sox. Sammy Sosa gave the nation a lot of entertainment with the competition he had with another baseball player. He had his reputation ruined, but never did give up baseball. Even though he did not win the bet, Sammy was not a sore loser. Sammy Sosa was the right fielder for the Chicago Cubs who had hit more than 100 home runs in 2 seasons. (http://search.ebscohost.com) Sammy s mom, Mireya Sosa, was born in the Dominican Republic, and she couldn t work for herself, all the money went to her family. She married at a young age, but it ended in a divorce. She took her son Louis, and left to find a job. She later on took the job as a maid. Sammy was the fifth child, and he got the nickname Mikey from his grandmother. Sammy s stepfather had died of massive bleeding in the brain. He had worked for his family ever since then, and he never did give up. Even though he did not have a mitt or ball, Sammy had used a milk carton as a mitt, and rolled up socks as the ball. (Susan Korman 13 14) Sammy had played with two American leagues, then a national league. He had first played with the Texas rangers which was his first American league team, then he went to the Chicago White Sox. His first and only national league team was the Chicago Cubs. • 3. Han Dynasty Essay The Han Dynasty, the second imperial dynasty of Ancient China, was prosperous and innovative. The scientific development was extremely advanced for the time, and inventions such as the seismometer, sundial, and wheelbarrow greatly improved Ancient Chinese life (Cartwright Achievements , 2017). However, perhaps the most important invention of the Han Dynasty was paper. Paper affected countless areas of Ancient Chinese life by transforming the way information and art were recorded, consumed, and stored. While the origins of paper are unknown, its predecessors were flawed and in need of a replacement. The invention of paper is attributed to Cai Lun, a Han government worker, who created the first true paper in AD 105 (Greenling 2017, 51). However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Former Encyclopædia Britannica editor Kenneth Pletcher described the record keeping of the Han administration, Han administration required detailed record keeping, which generated a proliferation of documents. Official returns were sometimes kept in duplicate, and each agency kept running files to record its business (Pletcher 2010, 79). Bulky bamboo or expensive silk were impractical for this kind of meticulous record keeping, but official documents were recorded and stored easily because of the invention of paper. The Han government had also taken an interest in literary accomplishment and scholastic competence for the Ancient Chinese people, likely as a result of the invention of paper (Pletcher 2010, 79). Alexander Monro wrote about how the books of Han Dynasty became the guiding stars of Chinese education, governance, and philosophy (Monro 2016, 44). The four classic texts, the Shijing, the Shujing, the Yijing, and the Chunqiu, were of such extreme importance to the Han government that in order to make an argument before the throne, a statesman would [have to] find a relevant quotation from these works (Pletcher 2010, 79). The four texts were also probably carved into stone and copied by using the stone rubbing method as mentioned before, giving the general public access to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Spectracide Analysis Spectracide is a common insecticide, its active ingredient is malathion. Malathion is an organophosphate that has been registered for use in the United States since 1956. In 2012, 1 3 million pounds of malathion were sold (EPA). Malathion functions by inhibiting the enzyme, acetylcholinesterase, by phosphorylation of the serine residue at the active site of the enzyme (EPA, 2016). This inhibition causes acetylcholine accumulation which leads to neurotoxicity in the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system (EPA, 2016). Malathion has been previously shown to increase the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase with increased time of exposure (Krstic et. al. 2008). • 5. Srutinize The Quote From Heilbroner And Milberg Scrutinize the Quote from Heilbroner/Milberg The evolution of the market economy has its roots in tradition and command systems. Even today, market economies rely on practices that have a resemblance to those of the middle ages and antiquity. If a person of yester years were exposed to the workings of the free market, they would be baffled with how resources are allocated to the right places especially labor and production. The beginnings of the economic society are traced to the relatable but separate problems that the society faced: the production of sufficient goods and services that would ensure the survival of the society and the organization of production output to make certain that there is more production (Heilbroner and Milberg 4). All medieval societies sought for ways to deal with these problems. Through history, humankind has tried to solve the problems of production and distribution in three ways: tradition, command and market economies (Heilbroner and Milberg 6). All these solutions are relatable to each other with some aspects of each overarching on the others. For the tradition solution, it focused on solving the issue of production. Each member of the society had their role predefined similar to their parents occupations. Notably, sons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. Green Tea As A Treatment For Cancer In 2737 B.C., the day was pleasant as Emperor Shen Nung sat beneath a tree sipping hot water. The slight breeze rippled through the tree above him, sending twirling leaves cascading all around him. Sipping his tea, he noticed a leaf had fallen into it, changing the color slightly and giving the hot water a slightly bitter, yet refreshing taste (Nerz Stormes). Whether or not this ledged depicting how tea was discovered is true, it sets the stage for the deep history and tradition that revolves around this world wide drink. Cultures that consume green tea have believed in its healing properties and treated it as both a beverage and a medicine for countless generations. Within these cultures, its common belief that green tea can increase longevity, treat diabetes, and even prevent cancer. The question that really got me interested in the direction of this topic was does green tea really have the ability to prevent or work as a treatment for cancer. Green tea has been a major part of Japanese cultures throughout history, both for leisure as well as medicine. There are people who devote their lives to learning The Way of Tea, a long ceremony that involves brewing and sharing tea with guests as well as appreciated nature. A lot of Hemingway s stories relate to the war somehow, whether it is directly or indirectly or through symbolism. He normally writes about himself too. The main character, in some way, is usually he. I believe that having a rough childhood and not the best of luck with the ladies left Hemingway without anyone to talk to. After witnessing so much death and destruction, he couldn t just keep that all bottled up inside. So I think that his stories that are about the war, is his way of getting all of this death and destruction off of his chest. It is a way for him to talk about what he went through. Take his story Big Two Hearted River for example. That story right there is about himself. He was expressing how he feels through Nick. In this story, the character, nick, describes the town he sees as burned over, and all of the buildings burnt right down to their chipped foundation, nothing was left. What Hemingway was describing here is the war, but in a way his own self, his soul. He had been burnt down, right to his chipped foundation. Hemingway uses the character Nick to represent himself. Hemingway writes stories with Nick, using it as a way to heal, a way to get all of these feelings he has from the war to the surface. Hemingway knows that he can t be totally hurt by the war, he knows that there has to be something left in him and that is what e is looking for. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Stereotypes Of Disney s Hidden Glass Ceiling Royal diversity Disney s Hidden Glass Ceiling What is the glass ceiling? How can we change it? And where does Disney fit into this? One of the earliest citation came from the magazine world in 1984. It was basically about women who reach a certain point in middle management where they get stuck and they are unable to move forward. Since then the definition has broadened it s become a metaphor that represents an invisible barrier that keeps a given demographic (usually women and minorities) from rising beyond. Believe it or not, Disney has contributed its fair share to this with some of its beloved animated princess movies. Most of them featured the helpless female who eventually finds their prince charming, who then sweeps her off her feet, then suddenly her whole life changes she lives happily ever after. Sadly, that sends a message to our young girls that to have happiness and a purpose they need to have a man to achieve that. Disney has had some success with moving away from female passivity in stories featuring white characters. In Mulan and the princess and the frog, Disney did not achieve gender or racial equality. The Disney franchise is a powerful force in the lives of young girls, especially girls of color seeking same race role models in the public eye (. Dundes, Streiff, 2016, p1). By unveiling Disney s hidden glass ceiling, we can start to get a more realistic view of our children s movies and start to distance ourselves from racial, sexism, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of The Prohibition Era The Prohibition Era, 1920 1933, was a time of turmoil and conflict as the ban of alcohol brought with it the growth of organized crime in United States. The nationwide prohibition of alcohol was introduced to solve social issues and most significantly, lower crime and corruption. Initially established due to nationwide Temperance movements stating that banning alcohol would decrease crime, however the banning of alcohol led to increased organized crime. Organized crime in America grew during Prohibition due to the mafia, gangs and the mob utilizing the public demand for alcohol for their own economic gain, bootlegging alcohol, using extortion and violence, all in is larger quantities than was present before the 18th Amendment was passed. A Public demand for alcohol and lack of enforcement of the 18th Amendment led to such an unsuccessful movement and eventually the first United States Constitution Amendment to be repealed fully. • 13. How People Respond to Interpersonal Rejections Essay The desire for positive social relationships is one of the most fundamental and universal human needs. This need has a deep root in evolutionary history in relation to mating and natural selection and this can exert a powerful impact on contemporary human psychological processes (Baumeister Leary 1995). Failure to satisfy these needs can bear devastating consequences on the psychological well being of an individual. These needs might not be satisfied as rejection, isolation, and ostracism occurs on a daily basis to people. With the evaluation of the hierarchy of needs it represents that positive interpersonal relationships are at the core of existence just as much as physiological needs. Since the basis of human existence is supported by the hierarchy of needs its important to discuss what happens when aspects of this is non existent i.e interpersonal relationships. Research that has developed is extensive as to how ostracism has and is being used to marginalize individuals and groups and the consequences this can have on the individual and society. The primary research of Ostracism began with studies that provided a foundation by studying how individuals react to being ostracised by a few others which provided sources for understanding how minorities would feel if they were to be marginalized by a dominant society (Carter Sowell 2008). The primary research within ostracism was central to psychological and emotional responses. One of the first paradigms developed was the ball toss paradigm by Williams and Sommer in 1997. This experiment stimulated the victim to feel ostracized because the participants would toss the ball to each other and then after a period of time the participant would be left out causing them to feel rejected. More modern approaches to stimulating ostracism include the O train by Zadro et al in 2005, 2006 and the Scarlet letter study by Ambady et al 2000. • 14. Ocean Acidification Is Destroying Our Environment Evelyn Yang Nick Grossenbacher Essay Writing A July 6, 2015 Ocean Acidification: How the Ocean s Declining pH is Destroying Our Environment Sometimes called climate change s equivalently destructive twin , ocean acidification is becoming more and more noticeable as the seawater s changing chemistry begins to cause environmental and economical problems. When the Industrial Revolution began around 1760, fossil fuel powered machines gained an immense amount of accessibility and popularity. Since then, carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in the atmosphere have risen enough to change the pH of the world s oceans. Given that the ocean absorbs almost half of the CO2 that is released into our atmosphere, ocean acidification is inclining into an even greater problem as fossil fuels become a more common energy source in our society. Higher acid levels can harm wildlife, disrupt the food chain, and negatively impact industries that rely on the ocean for business. Ocean acidification is causing growing dilemmas for both marine ecosystems and ocean based economies. Although many companies and organizations are attempting to fix this problem, acidification is still threatening to cause increasingly harmful issues for the future. Ocean acidification is the constant increase of acidity in the Earth s oceans, caused by the unceasingly rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The high demand for computer chips requires a manufacturing process that is accurate as well as efficient. In the past, chips have been manufactured out of many different materials including copper oxide and germanium. Today, computer chips are manufactured using silicon due to its versatility as a semiconductor and how readily available it is in the environment. This paper includes how silicon became an important semiconductor, a brief history on the process of integrated chip manufacturing, an analysis of the shrinking of manufacturing process, and newer methods of three dimensional lithography. Silicon and germanium are used as semiconductors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Different combinations of n and p type doping are used to create electronic components such as transistors, capacitors, and diodes. Silicon became the top semiconductor in the 1960s due to the oxide layer it forms, its ability to perform at higher temperatures, and its availability in nature. When exposed to air, silicon forms a silicon dioxide layer on its surface that serves as an excellent insulator allowing for small interference between different components. Compared to germanium, silicon is able to perform at higher temperatures which becomes important when there are several different components on a chip operating and generating heat. Silicon is also readily available in nature, as it is a main component in sand whereas germanium is difficult to extract in large quantities making it more expensive. Computer processors and graphics processors have become increasingly advanced over the past 15 years, and require a process that is able to lay billions of transistors in a short amount of time. This process starts out with a silicon wafer, which is made from sand that it is melted down and extruded into a cylinder of perfect silicon lattices. This cylinder is cut into several eighteen inch diameter disks that are close to one millimeter thick. The silicon wafer is then annealed to remove the internal stresses of the lattice and then an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Anthropogenic Noise Pollution And Its Effects On Cetaceans Anthropogenic Noise Pollution and Its Effects on Cetaceans Cetaceans use sound extensively in both communication, hunting, and navigation. However as humanity continues to make use of the ocean we are constantly filling it with equipment that produces high amounts of sound. These devices are starting to have an impact on cetaceans worldwide, from mass strandings often linked to military exercises to area denials caused by busy commercial shipping lanes and seismic surveys. If consideration is not taken towards this problem now it could develop into something that could have degrading effects on cetacean populations in the future. Sound waves are nothing more than an energy transfer through a medium be it through a liquid, solid, or a gas. Sound pressure or intensity is measured on logarithmic scale in decibels dB which increases on an order of magnitude. For instance a quiet conversation would be around 30 dB and whereas the human pain threshold would be just over 100 dB. While the pitch or frequency of the sound is measured in hertz or Hz, the higher the hertz the higher the pitch of the sound and vice versa (Hildebrand, 2004). Anthropologic noise pollution can come from many different sources, some of the more common ones are commercial shipping, acoustic deterrent devices, military sonar, and explosives (used in some seismic surveys for oil and gas as well as military exercises). The main focus will be on military sonar use, seismic surveys, and acoustic deterrent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

War-Time Propaganda As an art form, one could consider film to fall under Plato s consideration of art as an imitator of nature and third removed from the truth (Plato, The Republic Book X, 360 BC). Like the painter who paints the carpenter s work, the filmmaker can only portray an image that already exists. To call art a mirror image of nature would imply that art including film shows all things exactly as they are in real life. This is not true because the filmmaker can also be selective and perhaps deceptive in what parts of the image that the film mirrors, picking and choosing aspects of the images to portray their own ideas. The film goes on to show a woman sitting eating chocolates amid the terrific clash and bang of battle before cutting to shots of soldiers in training then describing her actions as thoughtless as she buys new hats disregarding price and need (Huntley Film Archives). The woman is then shown trying on hats with a sales clerk nearby. She decides on a hat and gives the sales clerk money for it. The first woman is horrified at the thought that the sales clerk is a better patriot than her, and takes her money back to buy a Savings Stamp herself (Huntley Film Archives). This is an example of propaganda because it spread the idea that no matter what American women were doing during World War I, they were not doing enough to help the soldiers that were fighting for their lives; any amount of frivolity was a slap in the face to American soldiers who need her money more than her. It did not matter if she does not believe in the war or has already given a great deal; if an American woman was to do something for herself she was doing something wrong. Observing emotional reactions adds a further aspect to the understanding of a person s situation. It is mainly helpful when there seems to be an inconsistency between the content of a message and the person s feelings as it permits us to discover the speaker s actual approach toward a subject. They utilized a system of words or intervals followed by numbers to identify pitch. We had no idea what interval matched what pitch. It was decided that we would base the intervals off the tones made from replicas of ancient instruments. The Sumerian music system is based around the lyre (a type of portable harp) that had nine strings just like contemporary harps. Each string was tuned a step above or below the next string. The Sumerian scale had seven notes in it just like a modern scale. The Sumerians gave their scales names just as we do today. However, we do not know what the Sumerian scale names translate to. In other words, we do not know the mode. Melodies today are made by assigning each note a specific pitch. Sumerian notation gives each note a certain interval followed by a number. This is confusing. Does the number mean that we play the interval a certain number of times? Do we play the same interval an octave apart at the exact same time? No one knows for sure. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Reverend Hale can be considered a morally ambiguous character because of the actions he takes throughout the play. Reverend Hale can be considered morally ambiguous because he helps capture the accused witches but he consoles them as he is doing it and is reassuring them that everything will be okay. This can be taken as morally ambiguous because he is considered evil for going around and arresting the accused without proof that isn t an accusation and taking part in the witch hunts in general, but he is also making them feel better by telling them that they will be okay, which also gives him good quality. An example of this is when he arrests Rebecca Nurse. Women are consistently reduced to their looks or the tasks they are able to complete, and often their intellect and talents are ignored. Milton grapples the topic in both of his works, Paradise Lost with Adam and Eve, and Samson Agonists with Samson and Dalila. Both Eve and Dalila are presented as unequal characters when compared to Adam and Samson, making them both more susceptible to the advances of evil forces. Each woman individually faces temptation and fails to supersede it, causing not only the fall for themselves, but the fall for their husbands as well. If Milton situated the woman as equal to their husbands and as helpmates instead of companions then the likelihood of them falling would have decreased greatly. However, because of their inequality it opened sin up to being a viable temptation. Milton had to present them as unequal beings to be able to justify their fall and in return ultimately place the blame on God as a whole. Milton s central theme seems to suggest that if God would have just created men and women equal to begin with then they would not have fallen. This is easily seen in Paradise Lost, but when examining Samson Agonists, it is evident there as well, since Dalila is part of the Philistinians, a race that God sent Samson to destroy, making them unequal. • 35. Analysis Of The Film Gibber Eidolon Greetings from the Abyss. The name s Charles Chadwick, and for the last 7 years I have poured thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of labor into my film Gibber Eidolon. The film is shot entirely on black and white Super8 film, and uses a myriad of techniques. From hand painted film, to video generation loss, to hand processing, to found footage and traditionally shot sequences. The title of the film roughly translates to Babbling Ghost. Babbling from fear or shock. The Gibber Eidolon is a being that is not quite there because it is suffused with terror. Its perspective is of diffused chaos. Concretely, the film is a tour of various San Francisco Bay Area graveyards; almost all of them have residents going back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Also, the film contains live footage of historic computer technology, both operational and not. Found footage/archival footage in this same vein is used as well, in addition to appropriated visual material whose subject matter differs...used mainly for metaphoric illustration. The work contains footage shot over the last 15 years, as well as found footage acquired over a period of roughly 13 years. This movie is first and foremost diaristic. It contains my life: the places I ve been and the way I ve responded to them, and the ideas I ve had along the way. It is a work of spirit. The film also is a collaboration between myself and my dear friend Matthew Bambas, who I ve been working with both on films and music for nearly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Intellectual Growth In Daniel Keyes s Flowers For Algernon Charlie Gordon, narrator of the progress reports in Daniel Keyes s Flowers for Algernon, has an intellectual growth that can be depicted as a one year old boy who becomes an extravagant 20 year old scholar in the matter of weeks. In the beginning of the story, Charlie Gordon is a student at Beekman College as a mentally delayed adult, accompanied by his IQ (intelligence quotient) of 68. He is then selected to undergo an operation to artificially increase his intelligence similar to the successful attempt on a lab mouse, Algernon. Learning new things every day, Gordon has surpassed many people by his IQ level. This growth has gotten to the point as seen in Algernon s experiment that his cerebral level will then deteriorate at the same rate as the increase. In response to Alice, Charlie claims, Maybe that s why it was so important for me to learn. I thought it would make people like me. I thought I would have friends. That s something to laugh at, isn t it? (Keyes 299 300). This declaration further proves Charlie s cynicality. He is expressing pessimistic behavior by affirming that it was humorous for him to gain intelligence so he could obtain friends. In reality, however, his friend count downsized. Neocolonialism in Jamaica Essay Neocolonialism in Jamaica: History, practices, and resistance The imposition of structural adjustment programs in the Third World since the 1970s has been characterized as a war against the poor, a process of [neo] recolonization (Turner, 1994: 37). This statement is particularly applicable to the country of Jamaica. The island has been susceptible to a variety of neocolonial acts including the presence of multinational corporations, structural adjustment programs, and loan organizations that have sucked Jamaica s economy dry. This neocolonial presence has devastated the population in more ways than one. It is apparent that neocolonialism has had and continues to have a large impact on society as a whole in Jamaica. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Profound development began in 1660 when, after a five year struggle against the Spanish crown, the British won power. There was a significant rise in population under British control. Their system allowed the colony to prosper as they gave new European settlers land to cultivate sugar cane and cocoa. The European planter has been described as a machine for making money (Waters, 1985: 22). The purpose of this colonial economic system was to provide raw materials and goods for the Mother Country. In addition, a general consumer market was developed to send wealth to Europe and allow for capital accumulation, all for the benefit of the colonizers. Slavery represents an important part of Jamaican history and the cultivated dominant atmosphere. For one, plantations highly depended on slave labor to maximize profit margins. Between 1655 and 1808 one million slaves were forcefully brought to Jamaica (Waters, 1985: 21 23). Persaud (2001: 72) suggests, the plantation system, the totality of institutional arrangements surrounding the production and marketing of plantation crops, has seriously affected society in Jamaica . In other words, the slave mode of production was a crucial factor in the establishment of Jamaica s structural society. Jamaica s class structure today reflects its history as a colonial plantation society and its beginnings of industrial development ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Niemann Pick Disease Research Paper Niemann Pick Disease Niemann Pick Disease is an autosomal recessive disease, passed down through carrier parents, where lipids gather in the cells of the spleen, liver, and brain creating an obstruction. There are four known forms of the disease, Type A, Type B, Type C, and Type D, in which Type A and B compose Type I and Type C and D make up Type II. Type A and B are due to a mutation in the SMPD1 gene that causes a lack of the enzyme acid sphingomyelinase (ASM) which metabolizes sphingomyelin. When there is an absence of sphingomyelinase the excess buildup of sphingomyelin kills multiple cells, which leads to the stopping of organ function. The symptoms of Type A include: abdominal swelling, redness in the eye, eating difficulties, and loss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the bodies inability to create the enzymes, the patient experiences a buildup of ganglioside GM2, its derivative GA2, glopside, and oligosaccharides ultimately leading to the wrecking of the central nervous system and then death. In a healthy baby, the enzyme would convert the ganglioside into a non toxic. The three stages of Sandhoff disease are infantile form, juvenile form, and adult form, clearly determined by the age category in which these symptoms present themselves. Placement of the mutation, specifically the codons on the 14 exons in the HEXB gene inscribed in chromosome 5 of the genome, decide the form, and thus the severity of the disease. Moreover, the infantile and juvenile form are observed to be a variation on exon 1207V pertaining to the father, along with a 16 base pair cancellation from the mother seen in up to 5 exons. Symptoms in the infantile form usually appear within six months of birth and the patient can be expected to die within three years, usually from a respiratory infection. Infantile form is the most severe, while juvenile and adult forms are rare. The symptoms that will arise during the infantile form are: loss of muscle control and movement, hearing loss, blindness, seizures, spasticity, macrephaly, red spots in the eye, respiratory infections, organomegaly, doll like appearance, and myoclonus. Since it is hereditary, each parent must be a carrier of the gene, resulting in a 25% chance that the child will inherit the disease. The juvenile form begins with symptoms from ages three to ten, with the child living to be around 15. Symptoms for the juvenile form include: autism, ataxia, loss of motor skills, spasticity, and various learning disorders. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
