Physical Education And Physical Education
My issue I have chosen to focus on is physical education (PE) and gender in upper key stage 2. This is
because 39% of children across the United Kingdom have a poor attitude towards any sort of physical
activity by 11 years old (Harris, 2015). My aim is to mainly focus on why some girls do not like the
thought of taking part in a PE lesson and what we can do in school to help. Mason (2014), found that
some girls do not join in any activity in or out of school due to what they experience in school PE
lessons. Supporting evidence shows how physical activity attitudes are linked back to our experiences
throughout school (Griggs, 2015). It is important to ensure what children experience through school
during physical education is consistently positive and enjoyable to encourage physical activity within
and outside of school too. There may be many reasons for why children do not enjoy joining in PE
lessons and the excuses to avoid them can vary. However, it is important as a country that physical
exercise is encouraged to ensure children are remaining active. I find it interesting that it is mainly
girls who are wanting to avoid PE, therefore my aim is to find a way to overcome this problem by
implementing strategies that will give children, especially girls, the best experience in school PE
lessons possible, in order to encourage them to participate.
I have chosen this issue as it has been a problem for years; research shows that teachers have noticed
how girls do not want to

Dendroctonus Ponderosae
In the pacific northwest, there exists an insect the size of an apple seed. It feeds on the phloem of
trees, leaving them mutilated, their bark eviscerated and leaking sawdust. Victims of choice include
lodgepoles, western white pines, and ponderosa, but any gymnosperm will do. For the mountain pine
beetle, Dendroctonus ponderosae, the invasion means reproductive success. For the tree, it means slow
death.
Though the beetle chooses the victim, it is the fungus it carries, Grosmannia clavigera, that delivers
the fatal blow (Safranyik and Carroll 2006). Working in tandem with the insect, the fungus spreads
across the surface of the trunk, dismantling all defenses. So refined is this relationship that the beetles
store the fungus in specialized containers. Sap, which trees use to wash out offending beetles,
crystallizes, forming a pitch cap characteristic of infected trees. Cut off from nutrients, the host begins
to wither away. It can be a slow process, with some trees standing, in limbo, for up to a decade. ...

ponderosae looks much like other members of Coleoptera. Its eggs are deposited in the inner bark of
trees, incubating for an average of two weeks. It undergoes four stages of metamorphosis, meaning its
larval form dissolves into itself and, while still incased, begins to sprout wings, with the fully
developed adult emerging only to mate and feed. Hardened wing plates known as elytra help
distinguish adults from other insects, and an appetite for wood helps distinguish the 600 species of
bark beetle from other beetles. Unlike many tree invaders, however, which preferentially target the
weak and diseased, D. ponderosae increasingly besieges healthy

Voyager 1 Research Paper
The Mission Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 set off in different months from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The
original purpose was to get close up views on Jupiter and Saturn, Saturn s rings and the bigger of 2
moons. The spacecrafts were built to last 5 years, but as this mission went on they sent back data of
objects in space and have reached our outermost planets of the solar system. The mission was on to a
whole different level. For this all to happen in the first place there had to be extreme calculations of
when the planets orbited and met each other so the voyager would see it. This asstonishing occurrence
happens about 1 out of 175 years.
History of the Mission Voyager 2 was launched a few months before Voyager 1 in 1977. Voyager 1
was launched faster than 2 so it over took Voyager 2. Voyager mission to Jupiter and Saturn brought
Voyager 1 to Jupiter on March 5, 1979, and Saturn on November 12, 1980, Shortly after that Voyager
2 to Jupiter on July 9, 1979, and Saturn on August 25, 1981. Voyager 1 was meant to go to Saturn s
rings while voyager 2 was supposed to go by Saturn right to Uranus. In 1986 Voyager 2 finally
reached Uranus. Voyager 1 was going outward viewing planetary space. Voyager 1 is currently leaving
the solar system on its way to the Asteroid Belt traveling at 320,000 million miles per year! They
expect this great mission to last 2 3 more decades. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gender Discrimination In Crawling Across Broken Glass
Deep into Discrimination
Have you ever walked into a public place and knew everyone was judging you? You felt the glaring
stares as you walked with your head down to the back of the room. As you sat, you could hear the
whispers and unspoken thoughts that stirred around you. You knew you didn t fit in. You knew you
were not liked. You knew you were not wanted. This has happened to many people due to harsh
discrimination based on nationality, race, and gender. As I ve grown up, I ve faced this experience
many times. I was adopted, along with three siblings from multiple countries by Caucasian parents. A
lot of people have positive judgments, but plenty others have negative ones. It can get to the point
where nowhere feels safe and it can feel like you re alone. A lot of research has ... Show more content

People have written hundreds of stories such as, The Help, by Kathryn Stockett which tells a story of
many injustices based on race, Crawling Across Broken Glass, which tells a story of a woman who
beat the odds of gender discrimination, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne which is a
story based on religious differences. Some books even take a more obvious approach such as, The
Face of Discrimination, by Vincent J. Rosigno and Religion or Belief, Discrimination and Equality.
Newspapers and magazines have written thousands of articles based on discrimination of all kinds.
Cartoons and comics have storylines based on the horrible circumstances many people face daily due
to their appearance. I can add personal experiences and share a few other peoples thoughts regarding
discrimination. How has discrimination improved over the years? Is it still an issue?

Comparing Poe And The Tell-Tale Heart
Both the short story by Edgar Allan Poe and Annett Jung s animation of The Tell Tale Heart describe
the terrifying hauntings of inner guilt. Within the story, the main character s deranged profile helped
exaggerate how guilt can affect a person. Altogether, the story conveyed the message in a more
effective way, as it described the narrator s reactions in greater detail and especially built his character.
Taking up the largest portion of the story, the paranoid narrator (murderer) and the aged man were the
dominant characters. All characters were animated exceptionally well, and the way they were drawn
added incredible depth to the story. Moreover, the narrator had bags under his eyes and unkempt hair,
and in a few scenes he is seen laughing

Rennie Mcquilkin The Collecting Poem Summary
Rennie McQuilkin presents meaning in his poems through his precise word choice and use of
figurative language which blends in with carefully chosen ideas and memories. With art being his
main focus, McQuilkin splits up his work into two parts; a narrative beginning and a more symbolic
end in both The Collecting and in Birth of a Poet. The Collecting is one of the poems in the book
North of Eden which is quite literally divided into two separate parts. With that divide McQuilkin
intends to separate the reality and the dream; both of which the narrator experiences himself. At the
beginning, in part I, most of the stanzas are pure description and not so much of reflection. Uncle slips
a hand through the noose of the turtle line, and lowers himself, this is a good example of the narrator
describing what he observed while being on the boat. Most of the first part is similar to the quote
above and McQuilkin mainly plays on the importance of the details in the story. The word choice in
part I is not necessarily complicated, the author really did intend it to be fully understood. It is
challenging to find meaning in the first few stanzas, however, as the poem continues it becomes easier
to recreate the full picture of the event. Even when he carves away the under shell, rips out the guts,
depicts the narrator in part I of the poem, specifying every little detail. One other unique feature of
McQuilkin is that he does not try to overcomplicate his poetry through the use of unnecessary
elements; his words are simple but very thought through. Through the use of figurative language in
part II and more specifically through incorporating metaphors the author is able to capture most of the
reader s interest. The two parts of this poem signify the reality and in contrast, the dream that the
narrator is having later on. Using metaphors McQuilkin is able to add color to the dream of the
narrator. It is almost as if he was trying to connect it to some other event from his memory. The beauty
of poetry and art in general is that there are infinite ways to create an infinite amount of meanings for
everyone. The art McQuilkin creates is both storylike and allegorical this combination strengthens the

The Theories Of Louis Althusser And Michel Foucault
Religion is potentially one of the single most influential concepts in our history as people. Power in
religion divides social groups and those groups contain a tiny portion of a ruling elite group who make
use of power and control others. In social groups, individuals who are inferior or subordinate are dealt
with as subjects by the ones who exert more control and are compelled to accept societal norms free
willingly while those who are superior hold power. A Pentecostal church uses powerful mechanisms
such as internal surveillance or panopticism to keep their believers in a well disciplined society. In this
essay I look at the way power is exerted throughout the ritual at Kennedy Road Tabernacle in a
Pentecostal church, demonstrating how those in power have control over the ones who are inferior or
subordinate. Throughout this examination, I will use the theories of Louis Althusser and Michel
Foucault to analyze the ways in which power is exerted within the members of this community.
During my observations at our visit to the Pentecostal church, there was an unequal distribution of
power between the men and women in labour divisions and the tasks they were assigned in terms of
the location they were in while performing the tasks. The Kennedy Road Tabernacle Pentecostal
church had both a lobby and the main hall where the ritual took place. Upon entering the lobby of the
church, there was a woman standing at the entrance handing out brochures and greeting people as they

Persuasive Essay On Nuclear Power
Although nuclear power cost the least for the amount of power it makes, it is still very expensive. To
make nuclear power you have to build a nuclear power plant. To build a nuclear power you need
millions of dollars. Not only that, you have to also run the nuclear power plant. To run a nuclear power
plant you need to either mine the uranium and then refine yourself, or buy the uranium from another
company. Once you have done this you need to run everything in the power plant, which cost money,
and then pay your workers. Also when creating nuclear energy you create radioactive waste which
need to be stored far away somewhere, under surveillance, to make sure that it does not ruin the
environment. The owner of exelon, the one who owns Three Mile Island, said that they have lost
around 800 million dollars in recent years. If exelon decided to change their mind they would end up
losing even more money and eventually have to shut down. People may argue that this is unfair to the
workers but it s not. If exelon does shut down three mile island all the people working there will lose
their jobs, but exelon would probably do something about that. Exelon is a fairly large company and
owns many different power plants in other states. If a worker was willing to move they would be fine,
but if they didn t exelon could offer them a severance package. A severance package is a package in
which the worker receives pay and benefits from their employment after they leave. Environmental

Why Is Mr Smith Goes To Washington Still Relevant Today
The film, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington is an great example of what is going in the politics back then

Clarissa Saunders Smith s Assistant, Joseph Paine Senior Senator, Jim Taylor Political Boss, Gov.
Hopper Governor, Chick McGann Taylor s Assistant and Diz Moore Newspaper Reporter and
Saunders friend. The film shows how Taylor, Paine and other guys are treating Mr. Smith and how
corrupted they are. In the end, Mr. Smith proves that he haven t done anything wrong and proves it.
The result made Paine and Taylor mad and were found guilty. Throughout the film, we can learn

One of the example from the film is, when Mr. Smith is appealing and trying to prove that he hasn t
done anything. Mr. Smith was speaking from about last seven hours and taking the stage slowly. One
of the member says to take a break and give more explanation next morning because it was already
midnight. Mr.Smith asks the Speaker of the House and he says once he stops talking today, he won t
get the stage back in the morning. And so thats why Mr.Smith refuses to take break and continous to
talk. So this is one of the example from the movie, it relates to today and what we learned in the class.
In our class we learned the same characteristics that once you take a break, you don t get the floor or
chance to speak back again. So the law hasn t changed in many years and that is why the film is still

Causes Of Alexander The Great
The Empire of Alexander lived on past the death of its founder, but soon fragmented into numerous
smaller kingdoms ruled by his generals. The Macedonian homeland came under the control of the line
of Antigonus I Monophthalmus, a general and satrap under Alexander. The line of Antigonus would
rule Macedon into the middle of the second century BC, when the kingdom was overcome by a
myriad of problems, both internal and external. The reasons for the decline and eventual annexation of
the Kingdom of Macedon include the weakening of the Macedonian army, the chaotic political order
in Macedonia, and the rising might of Rome. The downfall of the Kingdom took nearly 40 years to
achieve, and thus no single reason may be looked to as the cause of Macedon s annihilation as an
independent country. However, the combination, primarily, of those three things as they will each in
turn be highlighted, brought about the undoing of homeland of history s greatest general. In the annals
of history, few leaders are as well remembered, as celebrated, as Alexander the Great. Indeed, his
epithet suggests much both about him as a leader and about popular opinion of him. He among all
other generals and kings in history forged a lasting reputation as the greatest of generals. He held
together a veteran army, and huge empire through force of personality. The loyalty of his generals, the
Diadochi, was his greatest strength as a general, and his greatest weakness as a king. When Alexander

Aviation And Air Pollution
Air pollution has been a severe challenge to fuel consuming industries (Wang Hao 2012). Stringent
measures are to be implemented to reduce the effects of carbon emission to the environment. The
WHO (2011) has acknowledged the noise environmental impact as a serious burden of disease, and
recent contemporary studies have recognized a link between aviation noise and cardiovascular disease
(Hnasel 2013). Limited Airspace and Airports Capacities Busy airports have sometimes had to keep
aircrafts in the air in wait to land due to the lack of space and inefficient planning on arrivals and
departures. This causes an increase in costs of fuel and other harmful effects. The capacity of runways,
reception by taxis and the whole port should be increased to allow a smooth flow of activities. The
arrival and departure routes can be separate to facilitate a continuous landing and ascent. Technology
Over 60% of airlines have a strategic plan on how to improve their technique, some with programs
underway. An advance in technology in the industry means easy handling of clients and better service
provision (Lovelock 2011). Efficiency will be high, easy booking of tickets, fast and sophisticated
security checks, reduced paper works and proper communication among others. The right technology
will be an essential tool in the performance of this industry. Economic Impact of Aviation The
expansion of airports and reinforcement of the growth of aviation is evidenced on economic attaining

Green Teas are an indispensable part of the local cuisine in many parts of China and in some parts of
Japan. Green Teas are unoxidised with Chinese style teas such as Bi Luo Chun and Long Jing
characteristically processed with dry heat using a spinning drum similar to an oven along with a
cooking utensil resembling a wok.
Japanese Green Teas such as Sencha and Gyokuro are usually steamed producing flavours with a
subtle hint of citrus. Thus, the different methods of processing give them their uncommon flavours
and taste. Chinese style Green Teas have a mild flavour with a dash of sweetness filled with the aroma
of vanilla, wood or nuts.
Catechins
Fresh tealeaves overall are rich sources of flavonoids known as catechins effective for protecting the
body against, eliminating free radicals, muscle fatigue, pain caused by burns and preventing brain
related problems such as stroke, Parkinson s and Alzheimer s disease. However, the levels of this
substance depend on the amount of processing which undergoes a change during oxidation. With
higher oxidation, there is a decrease in the catechins. Hence, Green Tea consisting of huge amounts of
catechins is often promoted as a wonder drink far superior than any other tea. Nevertheless the fact
remains that with that with a reduction in catechins there occurs a natural rise in theaflavins and
thearubigins as in Oolong Tea offering anti cancer, anti inflammatory and anti allergy benefits. Hence,

Organic Vs Conventional Food Vs Organic Food Essay
Organic versus Conventional Food
Are you concerned about the health of yourself and that of your family when walking through the
grocery store? You should be. You might be surprised to learn about chemicals known to exist in the
conventional foods we eat daily. Ever wonder why apples are so shiny? A coating of shellac is applied
to apples to give them a shiny coating, prolonging their shelf life, and prevent bruising. You might
reconsider the next time you reach for the shiniest red apple and remember to think about the
pesticides that were used to make it that way. Being informed of the benefits of organic food versus
those of conventional will enable you to make the best decisions for you and your family.
Organic food is an alternative to conventional food. It is marketed as pure, wholesome and natural.
Organic food is generally considered healthier than conventional grown foods. People shopping for
organic food usually do so to avoid the chemicals, not necessarily because organic products have more
nutrition.
There are little to no pesticides sprayed on organic food. While this does make the food taste fresher, it
also means that it will spoil sooner. Unfortunately, this increases costs to the consumer because it
means it cost more money to get the produce more quickly to the market/grocery store. Surveys
suggest that about 40% of Americans buy some organic food. (Potera) The higher cost of organic
produce can have a negative impact and may put the organic diet out

The Risk Of An Ectopic Pregnancy
infections are pain, red vaginal bleeding, diarrhoea, fever and feeling unwell. Pelvic infections are
treated with antibiotics however severe cases are treated with surgery. Having a miscarriage is also a
biological implication because the risk of having a miscarriage with PGD or IVF is the same risk for
someone who conceived their child naturally, however there is a lot more for the PGD mother to lose
compared to the naturally conceived mother, for example PGD costs a lot of money where as natural
conception doesn t. The risk of an ectopic pregnancy is a biological implication because it can lead to
a miscarriage. Ectopic pregnancy is when the fertilised egg stays in the fallopian tube, and in rare
cases can attach to one of the mother s ovaries, another organ in the abdomen, the cornua of the uterus
or the cervix. With ectopic pregnancy emergency treatment is required, and the chances of the baby
surviving are very low. Symptoms of ectopic pregnancy include; light bleeding, nausea and vomiting
with pain, pain in the lower abdomen, sharp cramps, dizziness, and if the fallopian tube ruptures then
the pain and bleeding could possibly be severe enough to cause fainting.
The social implications to PGD include financing the cost of PGD, discrimination against people
carrying specific genetic diseases or disorder which makes them have disabilities, taxpayers and
ministry of health funding the treatment, and the success rate of PGD and IVF.
In order for PGD to occur IVF

Dental Implant Advancements
Advancements in dentistry, such as modern dental implants, have allowed patients to obtain treatments
that help improve their speech, chewing, comfort, appearance, and even confidence. Dental implants
have successfully been placed since the 1950s; however, with the improvement of technology over the
years, dental implants have improved as well. According to the American Academy of Periodontology,
a dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is surgically inserted into the bone where a tooth is
missing in order to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants are designed to replace
missing teeth, appearing and functioning the same as one s natural teeth. A dental implant consists of

In addition, it allows for the dentist to see the quality and quantity of bone in the area where the
implant is needed. If the patient does not contain enough bone in the area where the implant must be
placed, then the patient may need a transplant of bone tissue through a process called bone grafting.
Once the patient has been examined and bone grafting has been completed, if necessary, then he or she
can schedule an appointment for the implant placement. Before the surgical placement of the implant,
the patient must be given local anesthesia to eliminate pain. Then, small incisions are made into the
gum tissue of the area where the implant will be placed, creating flaps that expose the bone. Once the
bone is exposed, the dentist slowly drills into the bone, forming a small hole where the implant can fit
perfectly. During this process, a patient can expect to feel gentle pressure, minimal vibration, and
plenty of water cooling. When the hole has been made, the dentist takes out the sterilized implant and
places it inside the hole. The implant appears like a titanium screw. Throughout and after this entire

wealth in this country and that is not an even distribution of wealth. This means that those people who
are in the bottom 50% do not have the same opportunities as the others because simply put they do not

the top 10% s wealth has increased by double the amount the rest of the population has, meaning that

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Exchange Regime
FOREIGN EXHANGE REGIMES Foreign exchange is the trading of a currency for another or the

regime on the other side is the nature to which a currency is managed in relation to another by

on same economic factors. The foreign exchange regime is classified by the level to which the

Persuasive Essay On The Beauty Of Beauty
It s difficult to live in a world with social media, magazines and pop culture. Everything about today s
media culture can drive a person to believe they re just not enough. Women are directly impacted by
the need to look beautiful and captivating like the models on Instagram. Men tend to believe that if
they don t look a certain way and stay in the gym, they won t be desirable to women. The real truth is
that you ve got to learn to love yourself just the way you are. Work on both your internal and external
beauty, but don t obsess. The more you accept yourself, the more confident you ll become. Plus,
confidence is one of the most attractive traits any person can possess. If you want some practical ways
to work on becoming more at peace within your own skin, try these four tips.
1. Highlight the positives.
In a lot of cases, people pick themselves apart and identify with their least desirable traits. It s even
easy to do it to others. Instead of being overly critical, reverse it and highlight the wonderful parts of
yourself. For example, if you have a gorgeous head of hair, start to do your hair in a way that
highlights its beauty. If you have elegantly high cheekbones, highlight them with some blush, bronzer
or highlight. If you re a guy with masculine broad shoulders, wear clean blazers and shirts that
highlight that. It s best to play up your best features and allow them to stand out. Once you do this on
a consistent basis, you will feel better about what you have

The Field Of Engaging Diverse Students
Overview of the issue Despite valuable research in the field of engaging diverse students in science
education, there is still a gap where these groups continue to be underrepresented and marginalized in
the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields (Brotman Moore, 2008).
Research indicates that the problem arises early in the classroom where curriculum and classroom
environment does not account for the increase of diverse students groups in the classroom.
Furthermore, teacher might not be receiving professional development training that prepares them for
teaching to multicultural schools, particularly schools that serve underrepresented communities
(Sleeter, 2001). In the last decade, research studies have suggested that inquiry based learning can
prepare students to become critical thinkers and subsequently increase their achievement in the
classroom. In addition, these studies have supported the argument that including science inquiry in the
classroom promotes achievement and equity in science and language acquisition for culturally and
linguistically diverse students (Cuevas et al., 2005; Sleeter, 2001; Stoddart et al., 2002). The purpose
of this literature review is to a) introduce science inquiry and the process, b) evaluate how science
inquiry as a teaching intervention is used to engage linguistically and culturally diverse students, and
c) present issues pertaining to the implementation of science inquiry in the classroom. Background

Theory Of Perfectionism
According to Dunn, Whelton, and Sharpe (2006), due to working as academics involves having to
constantly receive criticism from colleagues and students as well as bearing the expectations to deliver
work in the highest standards, university academics are therefore seen as the most appropriate group
to represent the professional group for the study of perfectionism. The career as a university professor
is indeed very challenging, whereby everyday work entails critical scrutiny from peers. In addition to
that, the environment that these professors have to face each day are somewhat trying and
unaccommodating (Gmelch, Wilke, Lovrich, 1986) which can further aggravate dysfunctional
personality tendencies. All these criteria may one way or the other give ... Show more content on

According to a study conducted by Dr. Sherry and colleagues, it was found that the existence of a high
level of perfectionism among professors led to a lesser likelihood of them producing publications,
gaining valuable citations and also publishing their work in high impact journals or in other words
lower research productivity. This could impact their career in the long run due to the more they had
perfectionistic tendencies within them, the less productive they were in research. Whereas there is
general agreement in the literature on the definition of perfectionism, Dr. Sherry is of the opinion that
perfectionists are individuals who either strive to execute a task perfectly or not executing it at all.
They can never settle for less in anything that they do and may continuously reflect on their abilities
which can lead to an exaggerated self checking of not committing any mistakes whatsoever

Black Science Film Review
Black Science review
Science fiction comic Black Science written by Rick Remender and art by Matteo Scalera, involves an
unlikely and ambitious team of that gets trapped in the infinite dimensions of the universe. The
scientists on the mission sought to better humankind but short on time, supplies, and have no idea
what the hell is going on their mission quickly becomes a game of survival. Black Science is a
thrilling comic because the thrills, rich character development, and the ongoing discussion of the what
ifs in life. Scientist Grant McKay creates a pillar that transports his team and kids into the multi

Not only in a single panel but across the page Scalera manipulates the page art to have the reader
transported to a new galaxy. Scalera s achieves an almost 3D effect that helps the reader comprehend
the violence, fast pace and the large scale of the dimensions in the comic. Also, the use of bright
contrasting colors adds to the drama of the comic and emphasizes the graphic images of violence. The
faces of the characters are drawn in detail and are focused on facial expression, which allow the reader
to understand the characters and story better.
Black Science is an enjoyable read because the drama and thrills cease to end. Even though the story
is thrilling Rick Remender entangles the reader in the characters and the drama between them and the
art and the writing complement each other because they are both equally thrilling and dramatic. I give
Black Science a 4 out of 5 stars; the action and suspense leave you wanting to read the whole comic in

Loss Of Stars Essay
On Earth, scientists estimate that there are over 7,500,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (seven
quintillion, five hundred quadrillion) grains of sand. It is believed that for each grain of sand on Earth,
there are over 10,000 stars in outer space. A star is a luminous ball of plasma held together by its own
gravity. However, every star has the same general chemical composition. Despite the seemingly
endless amount of stars in the sky, we can not yet see them all, which plays a huge factor in the
amount of stars we are able to observe. Each day, light from distant stars is reaching Earth from stars
that are millions of light years away from the Earth. The constant arrival of new stars into the

Early Signs Of A Progressive Dementia
The early signs of a progressive dementia often bring discord to families, because siblings disagree on
what is really wrong and chalk up the changes they are seeing to depression, boredom, a recent illness
or even allergies . One of the family members usually suspects something like Alzheimer s but the
other disagree thus diagnosis is delayed. Early dementia is also known as MCI (Mild Cognitive
Impairment) and only about half of those with this diagnosis move on to one of the more progressive
dementias. So, it is understandable that some in a family might say Grandma was just like Dad. But,
she was able to take care of herself till she was 85. The importance of early diagnosis is three fold: 1)
Allows the person with a progressive illness to be more involved with the planning for the future. 2)
Allows the AD person to participate in drug studies and/or to take medications that extend the
functionality for activities of daily living. 3) Helps the primary care givers to plan for the future so
they are not always wondering what will happen they then can start planning for sharing the care, cost
of care and legal documents that will be needed. If your family member is younger and you have not
sought a diagnosis it is sometimes a good idea to seek Long Term Insurance before the diagnosis
because would most often a dementia diagnosis would prohibit that individual from qualifying.
Dementia itself is a more global impairment not just in memory, but in the

Sonnenallee Film Essay
Leander Haussmann s film Sonnenallee (1999) has been the subject of much criticism, this criticism
centred on the issue of ostalgia. (Allan, 2000; 11) Critics have dismissed the film as being an exercise
in ostalgia, some having gone so far as to claim that in its representation of life in the GDR that it is
downright dangerous . (Dale, 2000; 11) What this criticism betrays, however, is a very particular
hypocrisy. It is symptomatic of a colonial mentality existing between East and West, the West in its
criticism of Eastern remembrance seeking to define its identity by dictating how it could remember its
past. Ostalgia then is not about documentarian reconstruction; a faithful memory of life in the GDR as
it was, but a response to the present, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It plays with the distorted views of the West all the while acknowledging but justifying its own
distorted recollections acknowledging also that it is selective reconstruction. In this way it challenges
the very criticism which it faced with respect to the concept of ostalgia, the film being both a
justification and critical look at ostalgia which emerges as a reaction to its present circumstances
rather than the past. The film explicitly takes leave of Stasi obsessed portrayals of life in East
Germany in order to recover a self determined notion of identity as the Ossi struggled with the
patronising expectation of assimilation which was imposed upon them. Cormican said it best when he
said: If East Germans sometimes remember it too fondly... then West Germans often reject East
German s remembrances too callously . (Cormican, 2000; 11) By speaking back, both critiquing the
West and enabling it to understand the situation which bore the concept of ostalgia, the film functions
as a reconciliatory space for East and West, ostalgia addressing the colonising tendency of the West
towards Ossi

Essay on Neanderthals and Homo sapiens
There is evidence to suggest that Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens had coexisted for
approximately 35 40,000 years, (Fagan 2010) from around 60,000 years ago to 25,000 years ago when
they finally went extinct (Gibbon 2001). Anthropologists are still uncertain what the cause of their
extinction was. This paper will analyze three main theories of Neanderthal extinction. The first theory
is the competition theory, which claims that the Homo sapiens and Neanderthals had to compete for
resources, ultimately leading to their demise. The second theory I will discuss is the climate change
theory, which claims that Homo sapiens lived while Neanderthals died because they were better
adapted to the climate. The last theory I will discuss is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon investigating the bones Schmerling did not recognize them as a distinct species (Sawyer et al.
2007).The first true Neanderthal was discovered in the Neander Valley, near Dusseldorf in 1856 by a
group of miners who were blasting out a cave in the area. When the crew uncovered archaic bones
they contacted a local schoolteacher, Johann Karl Fuhlrott. Fuhlrott was the first to recognize the
fossils as a new species. In 1864, William King in the Quarterly Journal of Science identified this new
species as Homo neanderthalensis after the location of its unearthing (Sawyer et al. 2007).
Dietary Differences
The diets of Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens are very different. The diet of the Homo
sapiens shows how they were learning to adapt better to their environment, while the Neanderthals
were very set in how they gathered food. Studies of nitrogen preserved in the bones of Neanderthals
have shown that they consumed a substantial quantity of meat; comparable to that eaten by
contemporary wolves (Delson et. al 2006). The current interpretation of the Neanderthal diet is that
they were most likely hunters rather than scavengers (Delson et. al 2006). It was once thought that the
Neanderthal diet was comprised mainly of meat due plant life being seasonal in the cold climate they
inhabited. Evidence suggests however that the Middle East Neanderthals ... living in the relatively
warmest climate consume mostly meat (Sawyer et al. 2007) proving that

A Physics Special on
Mass Energy Equivalence
Article By: Hugh Corley
History
Born in Germany in 1879, Albert Einstein was theoretical physicist. After graduating high school, he
began working in a Swiss patent office in 1903. 1905 was like any other year in the patent office. That
is, until September 27, when Albert Einstein finished a paper that would revolutionize physics.
Titled Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content? it was the final paper in a series
of four he submitted that year to the German physics journal, Annalen der Physik. The first three
papers explained the photoelectric effect, gave experimental proof of the atoms, and introduced the
theory of special relativity. In the fourth paper however, Einstein explained the idea of mass energy
equivalence, using the now famous equation E=mc2. Although the idea of mass energy equivalence
existed before Einstein, it was never realized and systematically consolidated to a single equation. iii
Explanation
Figure 1: The Rest Mass Energy Equation.ii
This equation states that that the energy of the system (E) is equivalent to the mass of the system (m)
times the speed of light squared. In short, mass and energy are separate quantities that are closely
related. So close, in fact, that they are physically equivalent to each other. An increase in energy yields
a proportional increase in inertial mass. However it is important to note that the matter remains
unchanged. Another

How Did Roman Culture Influence Greek Culture
1. During the Agricultural Revolution, humans began settling down in communities and farming. The
more the residents depended on farming, the more the population increased. This made it harder to

Settlements had storehouses to keep valuable items and food surplus. Inside storehouses, surpluses
were offered to the gods at the beginning of the harvest season. Food surplus birthed accounting,

and satisfy the entire requests that are received in the system, however, it could easily be crammed.
Therefore, the ability to place every single data in its place can ease the process of maintaining and

Over the past half century, a number of controversial topics have come pouring out of China, spurring
many unsettled ethical debates. Such topics range from environmental impact to the one child policy,
or the treatment of animals to the treatment of athletes and prisoners. However, one case in particular
stands out as especially unethical and immoral; that being, the persecution, torture, capital
punishment, and organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners. Falun Gong, which translates to
Dharma Wheel Practice, follows the teachings of Li Hongzhi, drawing upon popular Buddhism and
Taoism, along with a form of Chinese meditation and exercise known as qigong. Though the practice

The Carved Vessel Summary
In around 3300 3000 BCE a sculptor created the Carved Vessel, from a stone referred to as Alabaster.
This vessel was produced in Uruk which is currently known as Warka, Iraq. Through the subject
matter, registers, and overall style, the sculptor of the Carved Vessel presented an organized story
about making sacrificial offerings to ensure a plentiful harvest. The main subjects of this story would
be the Sumerians and the goddess Inanna. Because in the process of the story it s the Sumerian people
who need the harvest and it s Inanna that they re presenting the sacrifices to for divine intervention in
a positive crop yield. It becomes clear that the goddess plays the most critical role in this ritualistic
story because of the sculptor s use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Considering the wave pattern of oceanic water this could depict water, or more specifically the Tigris
and Euphrates, which could have been their source of water. Then, in the next register, there are
distinctively grain plants, and through the process of the story it can be understood that this is the main
crop that the Sumerian people are hoping for a large upcoming harvest with. Next, there is a register of
rams and ewu and it is quite possible that they were used as sacrifices also, but they are not viewed as
being as vital as the grain because of their hieratic scale height. As the viewer looks up to the next
register, there is the men with the baskets, and the baskets have the sacrificial offerings to be taken to
the goddess. This register also raises the idea that women or children were not permitted to present
offerings to this goddess, because none are depicted. Perhaps due to the critical nature of the sacrifice
the task was left solely for men to perform. However, in the final register, the divine form that the
people are depicted presenting the sacrifices to as an offer for a plentiful harvest is the goddess

Relevant Background and Demographic Information Zachary is a six year old boy who attends
Barstow Elementary School. He is currently a kindergarten student and will be moving on to first
grade in the fall. Zachary identifies with the Caucasian community and is English speaking. He is
currently attending public schooling and meets with a speech therapist twice a week. The speech
therapist works with Zachary to develop his reading, writing and spelling skills. Beyond this service,
Zachary receives no other special services from Barstow Elementary. Reason for Referral Zachary,
along with every other public school student takes Maryland School Assessments (MSA) in order to
determine whether or not his reading abilities are equivalent to grade level standard scores. Zachary s
teacher, Mrs. Mason, expressed concern about Zachary s low achievement in a variety of subjects,
specifically in English and Literature. Mrs. Mason referred Zachary for extra assessments and
requested that an intervention plan be created for him if necessary. In addition to the MSA tests,
Zachary also administered the Test of Auditory Processing Skills, in order to rule out any potential
auditory processing or cognitive problems. Zachary s ability to perform tasks in nonsense word
fluency, reading fluency and reading comprehension were assessed through the MSA tests. Zachary s
auditory processing abilities were tested through the completion of multiple tasks on Auditory
Processing Skills; including word

Greek Tragic Heroes
Tragic heroes in Greek Tragedy consist of five main characteristics. First of all the character must pass
from happiness to misery. Secondly the character must not be perfectly just, but must be of good
character. Thirdly, the character s downfall must not result from immorality. Fourthly his downfall
must be a result of a hamartia, or a tragic flaw. Last, he must belong to distinguished family in order to
make the fall all the greater. In Sophocles Oedipus Rex Oedipus best represents the characteristics of a
tragic hero. In the beginning of the novel Oedipus is the successful ruler of Thebes with a loving wife

  • 2. Physical Education And Physical Education My issue I have chosen to focus on is physical education (PE) and gender in upper key stage 2. This is because 39% of children across the United Kingdom have a poor attitude towards any sort of physical activity by 11 years old (Harris, 2015). My aim is to mainly focus on why some girls do not like the thought of taking part in a PE lesson and what we can do in school to help. Mason (2014), found that some girls do not join in any activity in or out of school due to what they experience in school PE lessons. Supporting evidence shows how physical activity attitudes are linked back to our experiences throughout school (Griggs, 2015). It is important to ensure what children experience through school during physical education is consistently positive and enjoyable to encourage physical activity within and outside of school too. There may be many reasons for why children do not enjoy joining in PE lessons and the excuses to avoid them can vary. However, it is important as a country that physical exercise is encouraged to ensure children are remaining active. I find it interesting that it is mainly girls who are wanting to avoid PE, therefore my aim is to find a way to overcome this problem by implementing strategies that will give children, especially girls, the best experience in school PE lessons possible, in order to encourage them to participate. It feeds on the phloem of trees, leaving them mutilated, their bark eviscerated and leaking sawdust. Victims of choice include lodgepoles, western white pines, and ponderosa, but any gymnosperm will do. For the mountain pine beetle, Dendroctonus ponderosae, the invasion means reproductive success. For the tree, it means slow death. Though the beetle chooses the victim, it is the fungus it carries, Grosmannia clavigera, that delivers the fatal blow (Safranyik and Carroll 2006). Working in tandem with the insect, the fungus spreads across the surface of the trunk, dismantling all defenses. So refined is this relationship that the beetles store the fungus in specialized containers. Sap, which trees use to wash out offending beetles, crystallizes, forming a pitch cap characteristic of infected trees. Cut off from nutrients, the host begins to wither away. It can be a slow process, with some trees standing, in limbo, for up to a decade. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ponderosae looks much like other members of Coleoptera. The original purpose was to get close up views on Jupiter and Saturn, Saturn s rings and the bigger of 2 moons. The spacecrafts were built to last 5 years, but as this mission went on they sent back data of objects in space and have reached our outermost planets of the solar system. The mission was on to a whole different level. For this all to happen in the first place there had to be extreme calculations of when the planets orbited and met each other so the voyager would see it. Within the story, the main character s deranged profile helped exaggerate how guilt can affect a person. Altogether, the story conveyed the message in a more effective way, as it described the narrator s reactions in greater detail and especially built his character. Taking up the largest portion of the story, the paranoid narrator (murderer) and the aged man were the dominant characters. • 7. Rennie Mcquilkin The Collecting Poem Summary Rennie McQuilkin presents meaning in his poems through his precise word choice and use of figurative language which blends in with carefully chosen ideas and memories. With art being his main focus, McQuilkin splits up his work into two parts; a narrative beginning and a more symbolic end in both The Collecting and in Birth of a Poet. The Collecting is one of the poems in the book North of Eden which is quite literally divided into two separate parts. With that divide McQuilkin intends to separate the reality and the dream; both of which the narrator experiences himself. At the beginning, in part I, most of the stanzas are pure description and not so much of reflection. Uncle slips a hand through the noose of the turtle line, and lowers himself, this is a good example of the narrator describing what he observed while being on the boat. Most of the first part is similar to the quote above and McQuilkin mainly plays on the importance of the details in the story. The word choice in part I is not necessarily complicated, the author really did intend it to be fully understood. It is challenging to find meaning in the first few stanzas, however, as the poem continues it becomes easier to recreate the full picture of the event. Even when he carves away the under shell, rips out the guts, depicts the narrator in part I of the poem, specifying every little detail. One other unique feature of McQuilkin is that he does not try to overcomplicate his poetry through the use of unnecessary elements; his words are simple but very thought through. Through the use of figurative language in part II and more specifically through incorporating metaphors the author is able to capture most of the reader s interest. The two parts of this poem signify the reality and in contrast, the dream that the narrator is having later on. Using metaphors McQuilkin is able to add color to the dream of the narrator. It is almost as if he was trying to connect it to some other event from his memory. The beauty of poetry and art in general is that there are infinite ways to create an infinite amount of meanings for everyone. The art McQuilkin creates is both storylike and allegorical this combination strengthens the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Theories Of Louis Althusser And Michel Foucault Religion is potentially one of the single most influential concepts in our history as people. Power in religion divides social groups and those groups contain a tiny portion of a ruling elite group who make use of power and control others. In social groups, individuals who are inferior or subordinate are dealt with as subjects by the ones who exert more control and are compelled to accept societal norms free willingly while those who are superior hold power. A Pentecostal church uses powerful mechanisms such as internal surveillance or panopticism to keep their believers in a well disciplined society. In this essay I look at the way power is exerted throughout the ritual at Kennedy Road Tabernacle in a Pentecostal church, demonstrating how those in power have control over the ones who are inferior or subordinate. Throughout this examination, I will use the theories of Louis Althusser and Michel Foucault to analyze the ways in which power is exerted within the members of this community. During my observations at our visit to the Pentecostal church, there was an unequal distribution of power between the men and women in labour divisions and the tasks they were assigned in terms of the location they were in while performing the tasks. The Kennedy Road Tabernacle Pentecostal church had both a lobby and the main hall where the ritual took place. To make nuclear power you have to build a nuclear power plant. To build a nuclear power you need millions of dollars. Not only that, you have to also run the nuclear power plant. To run a nuclear power plant you need to either mine the uranium and then refine yourself, or buy the uranium from another company. Once you have done this you need to run everything in the power plant, which cost money, and then pay your workers. Also when creating nuclear energy you create radioactive waste which need to be stored far away somewhere, under surveillance, to make sure that it does not ruin the environment. The owner of exelon, the one who owns Three Mile Island, said that they have lost around 800 million dollars in recent years. If exelon decided to change their mind they would end up losing even more money and eventually have to shut down. People may argue that this is unfair to the workers but it s not. If exelon does shut down three mile island all the people working there will lose their jobs, but exelon would probably do something about that. Exelon is a fairly large company and owns many different power plants in other states. • 11. Causes Of Alexander The Great The Empire of Alexander lived on past the death of its founder, but soon fragmented into numerous smaller kingdoms ruled by his generals. The Macedonian homeland came under the control of the line of Antigonus I Monophthalmus, a general and satrap under Alexander. The line of Antigonus would rule Macedon into the middle of the second century BC, when the kingdom was overcome by a myriad of problems, both internal and external. The reasons for the decline and eventual annexation of the Kingdom of Macedon include the weakening of the Macedonian army, the chaotic political order in Macedonia, and the rising might of Rome. The downfall of the Kingdom took nearly 40 years to achieve, and thus no single reason may be looked to as the cause of Macedon s annihilation as an independent country. Organic Vs Conventional Food Vs Organic Food Essay Organic versus Conventional Food Are you concerned about the health of yourself and that of your family when walking through the grocery store? You should be. You might be surprised to learn about chemicals known to exist in the conventional foods we eat daily. Ever wonder why apples are so shiny? A coating of shellac is applied to apples to give them a shiny coating, prolonging their shelf life, and prevent bruising. You might reconsider the next time you reach for the shiniest red apple and remember to think about the pesticides that were used to make it that way. Being informed of the benefits of organic food versus those of conventional will enable you to make the best decisions for you and your family. Organic food is an alternative to conventional food. It is marketed as pure, wholesome and natural. Organic food is generally considered healthier than conventional grown foods. People shopping for organic food usually do so to avoid the chemicals, not necessarily because organic products have more nutrition. There are little to no pesticides sprayed on organic food. While this does make the food taste fresher, it also means that it will spoil sooner. Unfortunately, this increases costs to the consumer because it means it cost more money to get the produce more quickly to the market/grocery store. Surveys suggest that about 40% of Americans buy some organic food. (Potera) The higher cost of organic produce can have a negative impact and may put the organic diet out ... The Field Of Engaging Diverse Students Overview of the issue Despite valuable research in the field of engaging diverse students in science education, there is still a gap where these groups continue to be underrepresented and marginalized in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields (Brotman Moore, 2008). Research indicates that the problem arises early in the classroom where curriculum and classroom environment does not account for the increase of diverse students groups in the classroom. Furthermore, teacher might not be receiving professional development training that prepares them for teaching to multicultural schools, particularly schools that serve underrepresented communities (Sleeter, 2001). In addition to that, the environment that these professors have to face each day are somewhat trying and unaccommodating (Gmelch, Wilke, Lovrich, 1986) which can further aggravate dysfunctional personality tendencies. According to a study conducted by Dr. Sherry and colleagues, it was found that the existence of a high level of perfectionism among professors led to a lesser likelihood of them producing publications, gaining valuable citations and also publishing their work in high impact journals or in other words lower research productivity. This could impact their career in the long run due to the more they had perfectionistic tendencies within them, the less productive they were in research. Whereas there is general agreement in the literature on the definition of perfectionism, Dr. Sherry is of the opinion that perfectionists are individuals who either strive to execute a task perfectly or not executing it at all. They can never settle for less in anything that they do and may continuously reflect on their abilities which can lead to an exaggerated self checking of not committing any mistakes whatsoever (Charbonneau, ... It is believed that for each grain of sand on Earth, there are over 10,000 stars in outer space. A star is a luminous ball of plasma held together by its own gravity. Early Signs Of A Progressive Dementia The early signs of a progressive dementia often bring discord to families, because siblings disagree on what is really wrong and chalk up the changes they are seeing to depression, boredom, a recent illness or even allergies . One of the family members usually suspects something like Alzheimer s but the other disagree thus diagnosis is delayed. Early dementia is also known as MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment) and only about half of those with this diagnosis move on to one of the more progressive dementias. So, it is understandable that some in a family might say Grandma was just like Dad. But, she was able to take care of herself till she was 85. The importance of early diagnosis is three fold: 1) Allows the person with a progressive illness to be more involved with the planning for the future. 2) Allows the AD person to participate in drug studies and/or to take medications that extend the functionality for activities of daily living. 3) Helps the primary care givers to plan for the future so they are not always wondering what will happen they then can start planning for sharing the care, cost of care and legal documents that will be needed. (Allan, 2000; 11) Critics have dismissed the film as being an exercise in ostalgia, some having gone so far as to claim that in its representation of life in the GDR that it is downright dangerous . (Dale, 2000; 11) What this criticism betrays, however, is a very particular hypocrisy. It is symptomatic of a colonial mentality existing between East and West, the West in its criticism of Eastern remembrance seeking to define its identity by dictating how it could remember its past. The film explicitly takes leave of Stasi obsessed portrayals of life in East Germany in order to recover a self determined notion of identity as the Ossi struggled with the patronising expectation of assimilation which was imposed upon them. Cormican said it best when he said: If East Germans sometimes remember it too fondly... then West Germans often reject East German s remembrances too callously . Anthropologists are still uncertain what the cause of their extinction was. This paper will analyze three main theories of Neanderthal extinction. The first theory is the competition theory, which claims that the Homo sapiens and Neanderthals had to compete for resources, ultimately leading to their demise. The second theory I will discuss is the climate change theory, which claims that Homo sapiens lived while Neanderthals died because they were better adapted to the climate. When the crew uncovered archaic bones they contacted a local schoolteacher, Johann Karl Fuhlrott. Fuhlrott was the first to recognize the fossils as a new species. In 1864, William King in the Quarterly Journal of Science identified this new species as Homo neanderthalensis after the location of its unearthing (Sawyer et al. 2007). Dietary Differences The diets of Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens are very different. The diet of the Homo sapiens shows how they were learning to adapt better to their environment, while the Neanderthals were very set in how they gathered food. Studies of nitrogen preserved in the bones of Neanderthals have shown that they consumed a substantial quantity of meat; comparable to that eaten by contemporary wolves (Delson et. al 2006). The current interpretation of the Neanderthal diet is that they were most likely hunters rather than scavengers (Delson et. al 2006). A Physics Special On Mass Energy Equivalence The Great Lakes Tribune A Physics Special on Mass Energy Equivalence Article By: Hugh Corley History Born in Germany in 1879, Albert Einstein was theoretical physicist. After graduating high school, he began working in a Swiss patent office in 1903. 1905 was like any other year in the patent office. That is, until September 27, when Albert Einstein finished a paper that would revolutionize physics. Titled Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content? it was the final paper in a series of four he submitted that year to the German physics journal, Annalen der Physik. The first three papers explained the photoelectric effect, gave experimental proof of the atoms, and introduced the theory of special relativity. In the fourth paper however, Einstein explained the idea of mass energy equivalence, using the now famous equation E=mc2. Although the idea of mass energy equivalence existed before Einstein, it was never realized and systematically consolidated to a single equation. iii Explanation Figure 1: The Rest Mass Energy Equation.ii This equation states that that the energy of the system (E) is equivalent to the mass of the system (m) times the speed of light squared. In short, mass and energy are separate quantities that are closely related. So close, in fact, that they are physically equivalent to each other. An increase in energy yields a proportional increase in inertial mass. However it is important to note that the matter remains unchanged. Another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
