Abstract:
It describes about the competitive strategies of a monopolistic market of a firm called United
Supemarkets. In a monopolistic market there are many firms producing the similar product. So it is
of utmost important to generate a product or the services so as to have a competitive advantage of
a particular firm over the another firm.In this essay I have recommended various strategies so the
firm can generate more revenue through the sale of products by following the particular strategies.
Competitive Strategy of an Organisation that operates in an Industry
Competitive strategy of an organisation involves generating a competitive advantage, increase the
loyalty of the customer and beat competitors. In short it can be said that it is a move to bring more
customers, retaining the competitive pressure and strengthen an organisation market s position.
There is a unique competitive balance between the firms in every industry. Some of the industry
have a single firm while the other have thousands of companies competing for the common product.
These composition constitute the market structure. Market structure is basically the number of
competitive firms producing the identical product.
For the present analysis of competitive strategy of an organisation, I have chosen organisation
called United Supermarkets. The company is a supermarket grocery store chain which is an

2. What is your decision regarding the 2 credit proposals? Why?
Ashar Corporation:
First of all, I am going to discuss the Ashar Business Credit Proposal. In this proposal, Ashar
Industries Company, which is one of the largest steel companies worldwide, is asking for a $850
M credit in order to finance their acquisition of Zellmont SA, which would actually create the
largest steel producer company of the world. This acquisition has not been recommended by the
Zellmont board, and therefore it could be regarded as a hostile takeover at the moment.
As it is seen on its financial statements, Ashar corporation has been a very healthy corporation
during the past few years. We can see that they have a really stable Income Statement, with ... Show

But the very important thing, foreseeing the future and the possible trends, that the gold price won t
decrease anymore, which will affect the company positively. We think that if we help the company
refinance their debt and keep up with their operations, they will develop a strong position in the
future years within this industry. We are risking a lot of moneyin this operation, but looking out
side de box, we anticipate a good future within this company and of course, within the gold sector,
which we consider will be caused by increase of the gold price.
We have much financial support on this operation, and I think that our bank would gain a lot if
this operation goes well. GGC has the capability to pay in the medium long term, and we think that
if we help them take this step towards the future, it will be a win to win situation for both parties.

4) What suggestions might you make to the CEO about improving the Risk Management Process at
Wellfeet Bank?
I think that the organization could be improved by giving the relationship bankers more
responsibility within small credits, or with credits with lower risk. This would imply reducing the
time loss between all parts, and also giving the Senior Credit Officers more time to review and
decide about more risky and important credits.
I also think, that deals of such

Testing in Hong Kong
Introduction
There are many different kinds of test, as Hugh (1989) stated that test could be regarded as
proficiency tests, achievement tests, diagnostic tests and placement tests. In this article, we would
like to have some simple analysis on the quality of the reading test in the Hong Kong Diploma of
Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination of 2013. This is a newly implemented public
examination in 2002 which serve with different purpose and format as the former public
examination: Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) and the Hong Kong
Advanced Level Examination (HKALE).
Achievement tests are directly related to language course, their purpose being to establish how
successful individual students, groups of students, or the course themselves have been in achieving
objectives. (Hugh, 1989) according to this definition, HKDSE should be an achievement test. Since
it is a stepping stone to get into university in Hong Kong, the DSE examination paper should have
relatively high quality. By using a high standard testing paper, the quality of the universities
candidates can be guarantee.
Bachman (1996) has said that test qualities include reliability, construct validity, authenticity,
interactiveness, impact and practicality. In this paper we will focus on the construct validity,
authenticity and interactiveness to see how well is the KHDSE.

Morgan Le Fay s Role In The Arthurian Myth
Of the many villains in the Arthurian legend, Morgan le Fay, Morgause, and Mordred, may be the
most well known and most influential as they have transformed the texts of the Arthurian legend
over the years. As the legend is altered, their roles are changed by the many writers who impacted
the Arthurian legend. Due to the fact that the legend has been retold many times, the role of each
character cannot be consistent.
Morgan le Fay is the most well known female character in the Arthurian legend. Similar to many of
the other characters in the Arthurian legend, her character has transformed over the years. Many
authors and books depict her story in contrasting ways through the years. Morgan le Fay most likely
originated from Celtic mythology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Writers of the 20th and 21st century explore different aspects of her character. She is much more
than a one dimensional character and shown to have good and evil incentives. For example,
Marion Zimmer Bradley s The Mists of Avalon, in Morgan s point of view, describes her life
story as a struggle between pagan and Christian concepts. Additionally, Fay Sampson s Daughter
of Tintagel, told in different perspectives of people who had unique relationships with Morgan,
also recounts her journey to seek and acquire power from the pagan and Christian faith. In
addition to her role in literature, Morgan le Fay also appears in various movies and television
shows like Excalibur, Stargate, and Mists of Avalon. Morgan le Fay is often cast as a healer,
villain, enchantress, and seductress in various books, tv shows, and movies. Through the years and
different time periods, the character of Morgan le Fay has been considered the the most crucial
female antagonist in the Arthurian legend. However, she is not the only female character depicted
in a negative light. Morgause, her half sister, though considered a minor character, is yet another
female villain in the Arthurian

Response To Cecil The Lion
Since the shooting of Cecil the Lion by Dr Walter Palmer in July, 2015 in Zimbabwe the idea of
trophy hunting has been placed under a critical eye by the international audience. In an opinion
piece entitled Why killing lions like Cecil may actually be good for conservation , published in the
conversation in late July 2015, Nikki Rust and Diogo Verissimo mark their support of the
continuation of trophy huntingin African countries such as Zimbabwe, due to the positives of the
industry. In opposition, a letter to the editor, published in the age in August of 2015, written by
Vivienne Ortega suggests that the industry s damages outway any benefit caused. Similarly, Mark
Streeter s commentary comic, published in The Cagle Post suggests that trophying hunting is a
heartless age.

This gratification is then harnessed by the authors to allow them to guide the audience through the
truths of the highly regulated Zimbabwe trophy hunting industry, and the benefits its has to the
economy, exposure and wildlife sustainability in Zimbabwe. Before going in depth into how the
tourism industry will never be able to replace the countries reliance on the trophy hunting industry,
the authors undermine the oppositions believe that it can, allowing them to more easily persuade
their audience to their opinion regarding the topic. The authors open their first argument by stating
that hunters are willing to go to remote and unstable areas in need of their tourism that
photographic tourists are unwilling to venture, assisting in the flow of the benefits of tourism to
more swiftly reach those areas. This creates a sense of pity within the audience, for the citizens in
the low tourism areas that

Beowulf Christian Influence Essay
Christian Influence on Beowulf and The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki
In Beowulf the Christian influence is revealed through approximately 70 passages in which the
form of expression or the thought suggests Christian usage or doctrine (Blackburn 3); The Saga of
King Hrolf Kraki is in its own way infused with Christian values even though it preserves remnants
of the cult of Odin.
The Christian element seems to be too deeply interwoven in the text of Beowulf for us to suppose
that it is due to additions made by scribes at a time when the poem had come to be written down.
The Christian element had to be included by the original poet or by minstrels who recited it in later
times. The extent to which the Christian element is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
E. Talbot Donaldson says: Yet there is no reference to the New Testament to Christ and His
Sacrifice which are the real bases of Christianity in any intelligible sense of the term. (Bloom 1).
The minstrels who introduced the Christian element probably had but a vague knowledge of
Christianity, much of it probably coming from other poets who were Christian, like Caedmon, who
is mentioned in Bede s The Ecclesiastical History of the English People (215 18). Caedmon s
Hymn has but few lines extant:
. . . the power of the Creator, the profound mind
of the glorious Father, who fashioned the beginning
of every wonder, the eternal Lord.
For the children of men he made first
heaven as a roof, the holy Creator. . . .(Alexander 6)
The Christian references in Beowulf include four allusions to Genesis, including the Creation, Cain
and Abel and the Flood. There are dozens of references to God in the Christian sense, plus other
epithets for God: lord, father, creator, ruler, almighty, ruler of men, ruler of glory, shepherd of
glory, king of glory, guider of the heavens, ruler of victories, king of victories (Chadwick 24).
While the poet s reflections and characters statements are mostly Christian, the customs and
ceremonies, on the other hand, are almost entirely heathen/pagan (Ward v1,ch3,s3,n17): At the
beginning of the poem, there is the account of the pagan funeral rites of Scyld

there to be a breach of fiduciary, that relationship had to be present first. The court then mentions
that Mr. King went to Dr. Bryant because of Dr. Bryant s Knowledge in the surgical area needed to

Influences Of The Meiji Era
Influences of the Meiji Era The Meiji Era was a move into modernism and a step towards western
changes. Japan, influenced by Western Powers, would go through an immense government shift,
which would potentially be the turning point to a new era of ideas. During this political shift,
literature would reflect criticisms and struggles of the people in this time. Also as this major
change takes place, the lifestyles of many are either improved or destroyed. Therefore the culture of
the Meiji Era during the years of 1868 to 1912 was shaped by its bureaucratic government while the
literature of Mori Ogai evinces its cultural connection. During the Meiji Era, to show Western
powers their strength and independence, Japan underwent many changes, one... Show more content

A key ingredient to the abolition of feudalism was, By providing a new environment of political
and financial security, the government made possible investments in new industries and
technology. ( The Meiji par.11)These new industries would open up more jobs for citizens and
would therefore better their lives and increase the economies wealth. Another matter is that the
new technology would change how things were run, the old traditional ways would be replaced
with more modern solutions. Another major element to a new system of life was the railway,
...after the railway was completed in the late 1880s [a journey between Edo and Kyoto] took
less than one day. Moreover the rail fare was less than a third of the cost of the trip by sedan
chair. (Henshall 76)This big improvement in transportation would mark the beginning of
technology making the lives of everyday citizens more easier and less expensive. By being able
to go to such lengths for only a short amount time and money, the people of Japan are extremely
likely to go aboard the train and that would in turn boost the economy once again. In addition to
economical changes there were clothing changes as well, Western dress became fashionable among
progressives and in 1872 became compulsory for government officials (including on ceremonial
occasions) and civil servants such as

New Forms Of Architecture Developed During The Renaissance...
Architecture is a significant topic when looking at historical shifts of time periods, especially when
looking at the artistic shifts that occurred in the transition from the Medieval period into the
Renaissance. New forms of architecture are considered one of the most important achievements that
formed during the renaissanceera. The form of architecture developed during this period mainly
originated from Greek and Roman styles. These reappearing ideas became present in modern times
in many different ways. Many architects such as Bartolommeo Bandinelli would design dome
creations used mainly in the cathedrals of Florence. Not only were these domes larger and more
extravagant than ever before, they were engineered in a way that their acousticsare still being
studied and replicated today. The exterior elements of the Renaissance era domes were
considered to be impressive artistically, but the interior elements were unique to many as well.
Looking at such buildings today, you can see the detailed work that had been put in for many
years in order to create such a beautiful building. The acoustics inside the dome were carefully
crafted and incorporated into the structure of the dome itself, in order to enhance the ability for a
crowd to hear. The acoustics of many theaters in Italy were designed to enhance the hearing for the
varieties of music that were performed during these times. The Renaissance introduced the use of
polyphony , which is a multilayered faster type of

Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (United States)
In the U.S., generally accepted accounting principles, commonly abbreviated as US GAAP or
simply GAAP, are accounting rules used to prepare, present, and report financial statements for a
wide variety of entities, including publicly traded and privately held companies, non profit
organizations, and governments. Generally GAAP includes local applicable Accounting
Framework, related accounting law, rules and Accounting Standard.
Similar to many other countries practicing under the common law system, the United States
government does not directly set accounting standards, in the belief that the private sector has better
knowledge and resources. US GAAP is not written in law, although... Show more content on

This principle allows greater evaluation of actual profitability and performance (shows how much
was spent to earn revenue). Depreciation and Cost of Goods Sold are good examples of application
of this principle.
Disclosure principle. Amount and kinds of information disclosed should be decided based on trade
off analysis as a larger amount of information costs more to prepare and use. Information disclosed
should be enough to make a judgment while keeping costs reasonable. Information is presented in
the main body of financial statements, in the notes or as supplementary information
[edit] Constraints
Objectivity principle: the company financial statements provided by the accountants should be
based on objective evidence.
Materiality principle: the significance of an item should be considered when it is reported. An item
is considered significant when it would affect the decision of a reasonable individual.
Consistency principle: It means that the company uses the same accounting principles and methods
from year to year.
Prudence principle: when choosing between two solutions, the one that will be least likely to
overstate assets and income should be picked (see convention of conservatism).

The Tradition Of Music Through The People Of A Sardinia...
In Sardinian Chronicles, Bernard Lortat Jacob seeks to explain Sardinian music through the
people involved in the creation of it. The tradition of music in Sardinia runs deep, and Lortat
Jacob shows the importance it has to the residents of the island. Many lives are defined
completely by music, and these people are the ones in which Lortat Jacob focuses in on to study.
Deeper than this though, the author shows how a rich and dynamic scene is affected by the
powerful marching of time. Particularly in the monograph, a vignette regarding the residence and
life of a Sardinian craftsman named Attilio, this affliction is shown. The article shows how the
Sardinian musical culture has succumb to the aging process. The fragility of a tradition is
emphasized through a rich character portrayal and inferred admiration. Thick description is the
method in which Lortat Jacob arrives at his conclusions, or more accurately, his notable lack of
them. Such a vivd, descriptive way of writinglends itself to unique interpretation by each reader
individually. By including himself, Lortat Jacob shies away from the empirical tradition of
ethnography and emphasizes the importance of the character. The narrativestyleallows the author to
vividly describe the events to the reader while still maintaining an interesting, engaging purpose.
These methods show that the author has opted for a more wholesome, modern view of culture and
ethnography. Objectivity is not needed, just a simple set of

Return From The Inn
Part of the Permanent Collection at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Pieter Brueghel the
Younger s painting Return from the Inn made around 1620, illustrates an outdoor winter landscape
of rural peasant life in early seventeenth century Belgium. Born in 1564 or 1565 in Brussels,
Belgium, Pieter Brueghel the Younger was a Flemish painter best known for being the oldest son of
the famous sixteenth century Netherlandish painter Pieter Brueghel the Elder and Mayken Coecke
van Aelstv (Artnet, 2016). Following the passing of both of his parents, Brueghel the Younger and
his siblings Marie and Jan went to live with their grandmother Mayken Verhulst, a well established

At first contact with the painting, my eyes were immediately drawn to the center of the painting
where a dominant figure of a man is highlighted not only by his large size, but also by his bright
red jacket which invokes a strong presence in the painting. In contrast, the other peasant like
characters wear muted, dark colors while the child s clothing in the far bottom left of the painting
is almost indecipherable among the dark tree trunk. The use of the primary color red at the center
of the painting emphasizes a sense of tension, urgency and motion (Herberholz, Herberholz, 2002,
p. 29). However, I also observed the emanating warm palette of colors associated with this Flemish
renaissance era (Pastro, 2005, p. 51). The colors are cozy and reassuring. In truth, the blue sky,
light ochre buildings and the terracotta colored church, all covered with crisp white snow gives the
painting its arresting quality, presenting a peaceful winter country scene. Overall, the painting
presents a wide range of values and tones of colours. For instance, shades of yellow and gray are
strategically painted onto the snow to represent the shoe prints of the characters. Interestingly,
unlike his father, Pieter Brueghel the Youngerdepicted detailed objects in the painting through the
use of representational shapes. In these artwork, the emphasis is on the realistic presentation of
the subject matter. The people, objects, or landscape look very real and may be considered an
imitation of nature (Herberholz, Herberholz, 2002c, p. 90). In fact, artists frequently use realistic
shapes in a two dimensional artwork to represent three dimensional object forms that they see in
the natural world (Herberholz, Herberholz, 2002b, p. 34). In addition, the actions of the prominent
figures give the painting a series of clear lines that are sharp and even perhaps violent. In the book

pivot point. Creating a torque of 1.216Nm (using counter clockwise as positive direction), we had
to balance the meter using a mass of 0.518kg (m2). Since the force applied was the weight of the
masses, and both torque must be equal to balance the meter stick. We came up with the equation:
(m2) (g) (d2) = (m1) (g) (d1), consequently,d2=(m1)(g)(d1)/(m2)(g) , and it was equal to 0.23m.
Then, we locate the mass at that distance from the pivot point and it work.... Show more content on

On one side of the meter were acting two masses and in the other just one mass. These masses
were located at different distance from the pivot point. The two masses on one side were:
0.268kg (m1) at 0.1m (d1), and 0.218kg (m2) at 0.3m (d2), in addition, the 3rd mass needs to be
at 0.3m (d3). Therefore, we made the equation: (m3) (g) (d3) = [(m2) (g) (d2)] + [(m1) (g) (d1)]
and then, m3=( [(m2) (g) (d2)] + [(m1) (g) (d1)])/((g) (d3) ). The resulting m3 was 0.307kg. After
placing the obtained mass at the stated distance (d3), the meter stick was

Stem Cells And Its Effects On The Field Of Bioengineering
Stem cells has outgrown its medico therapies in the field of bioengineering and also in the
treatment of various conditions of the blood and immune system, or to cure specific cancers Since
it s a known fact that stem cells can different to specialized cells in an undifferentiated manner. As
the paper states the use of insulinproducing cells from human or rat adipose tissue derived stem
cells transduced with pancreatic duodenal homeobox can could cure type 1 diabetes. An alternative
is, use of embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells display the ability to differentiate in vitro
into variety of cell lineages. Insulin secreting cells are derived from the mouse embryonic stem

An alternative treatment to type 2 diabetes is insulin therapy since it is difficult to achieve desired
glucose levels due to increased spread of the disease. Transplantation of pancreas or replacement of
patient s islets of Langerhans is an ongoing treatment capable of achieving normoglycemia.
However the limitations of immunesupression and scarcity of donor pancreas make this procedure
not very desirable.
Stem cells therapy has been considerd as an alternative stratergy for replacement of damaged cells
, example embryonic stem cells , bone marrow stem cells etc. Initially to cure type 1 diabetes ,
insulin producing cells were created by transducing bone marrow stem cells with the pancreatic
duodenal homobox (Pdx1) gene. Although this experiment was successful in normalizing glucose
levels in streptozotocin induced diabetic mice, the low level of insulin production and the
unlikeliness of producing the culture conditions in vivo make this approach unfit for clinical
applications. Moreover, there was only a modest improvement in blood glucose levels by using
experiments done by western blot, immunofluorscence and RT PCR. We need to further tune this
treatment strategy to improve blood glucose levels to be able to beat the insulin therapy. A very
efficient way to approach this problem is using insulin secreting cells derived

The Challenges Of Colonialism And Imperialism In Nigeria
Imperialism has set our country back half a century. When the British came in in 1910 and
colonized our country, Nigeria, it changed everything. Our education system was negatively
affected. Our country became extremely controversial in a religious aspect. All in all, if the British
did not come and colonize our home, our country would be at a much better place today.
If we were to receive this grant from the UN, it would be more than helpful to our country.
Education would drastically improve if we received the grant. New schools and facilities would
be built, more qualified teachers would be hired, and a better school environment would be
established for the safety of the kids. As a country, our economy has been on a major downfall. In
order to help fix this, the grant is needed to help rebalance the economy. We must empower more
entrepreneurs and producers to create products that the our people need and desire. Finally, the last
reason we are in dire need of these money is to help end corruption. The corruption in our country
is our biggest problem. The corruption has led to significant poverty and an exceptionally low
unemployment rate. With the money we would invest into the government to try and create more
transparency with the our people. Overall, our country is at a place where a grant would be crucial
to our future development. We believe that this grant of money will push this country to a brighter
future.
Nigeria has a unique history in the terms of which

We See Black Americans Losing Their Life
As a young African American, looking around in this early 21st century, there are lots of issues
that are of great concern. Do we see black Americans losing their life because of race alone? Or,
are the issues of crime, violence and disturbed people nothing new under the sun? The amount of
violence seen on both the nightly news and being reported on the internet tell us that violence is a
commonplace thing in our society. Are the stresses of these times responsible for this rise in
people acting in irresponsible ways? Have other people in other time periods ever had to endure
this level of confusion in their communities? The purpose of this investigation is to explore these

George Kesey s One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
Only a few are able to utilize the power to control and manipulate situations which can lead to
drastic outcomes. Those with an assertive and manipulative personality tends to use that to their
own benefit and completely disregard the impact their personality has on the surrounding people
and themselves. In Ken Kesey s novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, he expresses the theme
of powerand manipulation through two characters, Nurse Ratched and McMurphy. Both characters
use their manipulative powers for their own advantage in a deceptive way that causes the patients
admitted to the asylum to suffer rather than improve.
Regarding Miss Ratched, she seems to show signs of passive aggressive behavior throughout the
book. This behavior adds to her manipulative ways and contributed to the decrease of the patients
progress (mental/physical state). Passive aggressive behavior is used to maintain control and
power because it s a way for her to not display any signs of weakness. Miss Ratched, also known as
the Big Nurse to the patients, fights hard to remain as the top authority figure in the Ward due to her
thirst for power. To maintain the control over the men, she emasculates them, stripping them of
their masculinity, in various ways to prevent the chance of an uproar against her. For instance, after
a group meeting regarding Harding s problem with his wife s breasts, the patients attack Harding.
In response, McMurphy provides an analogy of a pecking party to the current

straightforward, low complexity, moderate complexity, and high complexity. Clinical decisions
refer to the complexity of establishing a diagnosis or choosing a management option. The
complexity is determined by the volume of possible diagnoses or management options, and the
volume or complexity of medical records, diagnostic tests, or other information that must be

comorbidities associated with the patient s problem, the diagnostic procedure or management

Gender Bias In Nursing
What comes to your mind when you think of a nurse? Usually the image of a women in scrubs
with a stethoscope around her neck is what comes to mind. Although we may not do this on
purpose, it is quite normal for us to see only women unfortunately. When attending hospitals or
clinics, I am often assisted by a female nurse and usually a male physician. Genderbias has largely
been present within the medical field, especially when discussing nurses, physicians, or simply even
medical school students.
This article reached out to me as very interesting and pointed out some factors that I did not
realize prior to reading the article. Discrimination based on your gender should be nothing held
against us in the eyes of the medical field. Looking back into time, the association of women in
nursing began in the mid 1800 s. Many of our elders have been raised associating nursing as a
feminine occupation, and they have passed this belief onto their offspring. This belief has been
passed down through several generations, but as time is passing, gender roles are becoming less
common, and we need to translate this into nursing. When talking about gender equality, most of
the time we think of women fighting for the opportunities that are provided to men. This situation is
almost completely reversed. Men are now the minority fighting to have the same opportunities as
women in the nursing field. We need to stop thinking of nursing as a feminine occupation, but as an
occupation for all

Radio Stations Of New Zealand
There are more radio stations in New Zealand per head of population than any other country in the
world. This means individual stations need to jostle for their unique positioning in the market. One
way to evaluate the similarities and differences between radio stations is to conduct a Content
analysis. Radio stationsdefine their market positionings through differences in structure, talk focus,
announcing style, music, advertisements, self promotion, competitions, types of callers and news
information. We can see this by contrasting Mediaworks hip hop stationMai FMto New Zealand
Media and Entertainment s (NZME) boomers station Coast.
First developed by Harold Lasswell in 1927, Content analysis was initially a way of studying
propaganda in the mass media (Macnamara, 2011). The methodology has evolved over the years,
but the most basic way to describe content analysis is that it summarises any form of content by
counting various aspects of the content (Franzosi, 2008). According to Berelson (as cited in
Macnamara, 2011) some purposes of content analysis include to discover certain trends in
communication texts, to compare media and how they communicate and to predict the effects of
content on audiences. The reason I am using content analysis as oppose to more systematic and
objective approaches is that it allows me to develop precise explanations concerning trends in media
content whereas impressionistic approaches are better for describing the content, as there is no

Women s Clothing Advertisements Analysis
A) The four advertisements I chose are all women s clothing. The first pattern I noticed in the
advertisements was that all four of them showcased just one woman by herself and the second
pattern was that each woman had quite a bit of skin showing. In each of them they were doing
something slightly different though. In the Bottega Veneta advertisement the woman is posing
with her arm up and looking off at something out of the shot and her legs seem to be never
ending and completely revealed. In the Ann Taylor advertisement the model is Kate Hudson and
she is sitting down on a chair with her legs crossed and is leaning a bit forward and resting her
head on her arm. The slit of her dress goes up very high and reveals most of her legs and a
slightly deep cut around her neck revealing part of her chest as well as all of her right arm. Also
this advertisement is specifically for the new little black dress line. In the Express advertisement
girl seems to be walking with her hand on her neck while simultaneously swirling the bottom of
her dress around from walking. Her arm is uncovered and you see a good amount of her legs and
the movement of the dress draws your eyes to that. In the Levi s advertisement the woman is
facing away from the camera so we see her from behind. She is pulling up her Levi s shorts,
which draws the eyes to her bottom half. B) I think the idea that the producers of these images
want us to get is that if we buy their clothes we will be pretty, thin women

Narrative Of A Bluebird Research Paper
Bluebird Short Narrative by Lucy
Monster: Truck
Hero: Bluebird (a symbol of faith)
The blue bird. The last thing I saw on earth, the bird which brought me home.
Introduction: It was just a standard Monday, little did I know my life would never be the same
again. I tied my shoes, applied some makeup, got dressed for the day, and drove my black Mazda
to school. I blasted my music on the radio to the point where I could feel the bass run through my
body. I watched the rain droplets streak across my windscreen. The trees outside howled in the
wind, dark heavy clouds filled the sky.
There were many roads closed due to flooding so I was forced to cross the towns bridge instead.
The music faded out as the radio spokesperson warned us that the roads would be extra dangerous
today, at the time I thought nothing of it pfft I would never get into any serious trouble.
Rising:
The music turned back on, I tapped my foot in time with the beat as I crossed the narrow bridge.
The rain roared as it hit my car with force, I could hardly see anything as the water pounded at me.

ground with such power. The noise of the crash rang in my ears. Glass flew in every direction. I
screamed over the music. I was paralysed in terror as the heavy metal truck crushed onto the top of
my car. All I could taste in my mouth was the numbing sensation of warm, salty blood. Out of
nowhere the dark red substance was all over me, it oozed from every place of my body. I closed my
eyes and wondered if I was going to die. The last thing I could recall before I passed out was a blue
bird swooping through my car window, then blackness filled my head as it hit the steering

When the narrator talks about her family the tone of the story seems to be gloomy. The
definition of gloomy is causing distress or depression. An example of this tone can be found in
the story in the second paragraph. The narrator says, I always pricked my fingers or knotted my
colored threads time and time again while my sisters laughed and called me Bull Hands . The
narrator even goes as far as carrying a piece of jagged brick in her sock to strike her sisters with.
Then, when the narrator talks about Abuelita and the good times they have together the tone
shifts and now becomes more lighthearted. This lighthearted tone can be found in the story a
couple of times, but one significant example of this can be found in paragraph 4. It says,
Abuelita would wait for me at the top step of her porch, holding a hammer and nail and empty
coffee cans. And although we hardly ever spoke, hardly looked at each other as we worked over
root transplants, I always felt her grey eye on me. It made me feel, in a strange sort of way, safe
and guarded and not alone. Like God was suppose to make you feel. The two different examples I
just gave provide evidence that the tone of this story changes depending on who she is talking to
and who she is talking

the nuclear family system as a source of conflict and extended the inquiry into family issues to
include the family of origin (extended family). Bowen used his exploration of his own family of

Using six concepts that are intertwined together, Bowen s theory describes how the family

Civility and expertise are concepts that imply a historical significance which is valuable to

Schrock attempts to disprove common misconceptions about civic hackers, by suggesting that civic
hacking is a form of data activism and advocacy. Early definitions of civic hackers were froth with

through the modes of requesting, digesting, contributing, modeling, and contesting, civic hackers

helped support the idea of government secrecy, but the distinction that the civic hacker s
institutionally collaborative nature is a primary difference from hackers being defined as
antagonistic or subversive, (Schrock) allowed an eventual collaboration between the government

The Real Life Grind Analysis
The Real Life Grind
Most men indeed as well as most sects in religion, think themselves in possession of all truth, and
that wherever others differ from them it is so far error (Franklin 43). Many people, as Benjamin
Franklin points out in his speech, Speech in the Convention, hold their opinions above others; they
believe that their perspective is the most clear and realistic. Conversely, Albert Camus, a French
philosopher, author and journalist from the 20th century, opposed the general view of the old
Greek myth about Sisyphus s tragic fate. When everyone thought they were correct, Camus
proved them wrong. Camus argued that Sisyphus s fate was not as tragic as it was speculated to
be. He states, The lucidity that was to constitute his torture at the same time crowns his victory. .
. The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man s heart. One must imagine
Sisyphus happy (Camus 17 18). The general opinion of the Sisyphus s fate was that it is tragic
because he consciously knows that his labor of pushing a boulder up a mountain for eternity
serves no purpose, but Camus suggests that the fact that Sisyphus knows his fate makes him the
champion of it. He is the owner of that fate; Camus goes as far to say that Sisyphus enjoys his
labor because on his way up, he toils to push the boulder and works willingly in spite of the gods
that condemned him to this fate. When Sisyphus reaches the top of the mountain, he feels
triumphant and maybe even improves himself with skills he learned on his way to the top.
Identically, playing video games has the same impression. There is the misconception that playing
such games are a waste of time and are meaningless labor, but if examined meticulously, playing
video games have a similar grind to that of Sisyphus; they teach things to the player that only he or
she can value consciously. Viewing through the scientific lens, video games, albeit not all useful,
can offer educational benefits, such as creativity and data handling skills, collaborative skills, and
career exposure or experience, to students.
As a matter of fact, the act of playing a video game can boost a student s creativity and data
handling. In the article titled Designing Interactive Learning:

Compare And Contrast Traditional Teaching Styles
No teachers are similar as well as no students learn in the same way. Every teacher has their own
unique teaching style which is based on their educational philosophy, their classroom s
demographic, what subject area they teach, and the school s mission statement. Up until now,
teachers are looking for a system that will engage students in the educational process and will
develop the students critical thinking skills. Moreover, teachers want the classroom to be in order
and in control, but they also want their students to appreciate the learningprocedure. These teaching
styles can be divided into two approaches the teacher centered and learner centered.
Traditional teaching styles use teacher centered approach. It includes a teacher that stands at the
front and tells students step by step instructions. The teacher decides what is learned, when it is
learned, how it is learned, and how learning is evaluated. In a nutshell, the teacher is an information
giver and evaluator. The students are just there to learn through lessons and direct instructions.
Their attention is mainly focused on passing tests, assessments, and evaluations.

How Did Historians Contribute To The Civil Rights Movement
The Civil Rights Movement is often thought to begin with a tired Rosa Parks defiantly declining to
give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She paid the price by going to jail. Her refusal
sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which civil rights historians have in the past credited with
beginning the modern civil rights movement. Others credit the Supreme Court s landmark decision
in Brown v. Board of Education with beginning the movement. Regardless of the event used as the
starting point of the moment, everyone can agree that it is an important period in history. In the

Whites were afraid to be labeled as racially moderate, and typically had to join the side of white
supremacy for many reasons, among them the fact that class had previously aligned African
Americans and poorer whites in a fight against poverty, Brown elevated racial status above class.
Also, the decision made those in power in the South exert their disproportionate political power to
keep the state government in their hands. Finally, some Southerners who normally would not care
about race were swayed by the fact that the federal government was trying to impose a decision in
education an arena typically reserved for state government. This made the fight one of states rights
versus federal decree. Klarman s argument claims that this mobilization of white resistance in the
South led to increased tension and violence against African Americans. For example, the bitter
protests in Birmingham and Selma, along with the violence in the Black Belt areas of Lowndes
County, where police dogs, fire hoses and lynching were used came as a result of this massive
resistance movement. This violence, when media attention was paid to it, converted northern
whites to the civil rights cause by exposing the true evils of the Jim Crow system. Civil rights
leaders, such as Martin Luther King, played on that knowledge and specifically targeted cities
where the most powerful backlash would occur, gaining them media air time and allowing the

(Breastfeeding and Lactation Support Policy, 2016). Employers also can be rewarded for
encouraging their employees to breastfeed their infants. The Department of Health and Human
Services reports that women who are able to breastfeed their infants longer have and increased
attendance, reduction in insurance claims, and a decreased loss of job knowledge and turnover
(Employee Lactation Support Program, 2016). Also significant, infants that were breastfeed for at
least 4 months have a decreased need for health care visits and antibiotics. (Hughes 2015). To
increase the access for working mothers, both the affordable care act, in the civilian sector, and the
breastfeeding initiative, by the Army, have projected strict guidelines to ensure that new mothers
are able to provide the best nutrients for their children.
One of the major components that came from the Affordable Care Act for working breastfeeding
mothers is the right for adequate space and time to pump for up to one year after birth (Wage and
Hour Division, 2016). According to the law, employers are required to have a space that is private,
free from interruptions from staff and the public, and most importantly, not a restroom (Hughes
2015). This space does not have to be a permanent area, but has to meet above criteria.

South Texas Food Bank Case Study
Unfortunately not all organizations see the world in a humanitarian point of view, but the handful
that do includes The South Texas Food Bank. This organization was founded in 1989 and has been
helping the community of Laredo ever since. The South Texas Food Bank allows the unfortunate to
receive food and also educate the community about the realities of hunger. It has helped more than
ten thousand families throughout the years. The reason I picked the South Texas FoodBank as the
organization to get involved with was because I believe in what they are working towards. They
are working towards improving Laredo, by giving the hungry food. They give bags filled with food
ranging from: pasta to vegetables to rice. Each month they give up to thousands

What Ways Does The Structure Of A Relational Database...
In what way does the structure of a relational database assist the easy retrieval of information?
Benefits of reducing data redundancy
Reducing data redundancy will help improve the database and it assists making data retrieval more
simple and easy. Data redundancy makes the storage space needed for the database smaller as it is
more efficient compared to older flat based databases which wasted space as it stored the same
information in more than one field. Normalisation is what is used to design the RDBMS to split the
data up into related tables and then this helps to create relationships between them which enables
them to communicate with each other. The main purpose is that it helps reduce the redundancy as
it integrates the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It makes it faster and more efficient as the data only needs to be entered once. There will also be
data validation rules that will help make sure the users can only enter data in the correct format.
Also what helps make it faster is that there is only one database that can be linked to by many
departments instead of having individual ones which would take up more storage space and
wouldn t be efficient as they have to be changed and updated individually. As in one database for
the entire organisation once a piece of data has been changed it will then be updated throughout.
Efficient updating
Efficient updating is done because the data only has to be entered once and after it has been
changed in one place it will then be updated. Having one database is more efficient as you can
update multiple items at one location, where if you had the older type you could have many
databases that you would have to go through one at a time and then change and update the data.
This would take more time to complete and also it could cost more money as it takes more storage
space to store multiple databases where they could still have the same data but repeated so this
could be combined into one database that can be used by the entire organisation.
Sorting
Data redundancy helps with the sorting of data because it has reduced the chances of errors by
using data integrity rules such as validation rules and applying the right

Persuasive Essay On Animal Cruelty
Shrouded in darkness late one night, investigating the sky for shooting stars, the silence was
shattered by a deafening sound followed by the sound of a body rolling down stairs. Quickly
turning lights on, I discover my eldest dog at the bottom of the steps after tumbling down the
wooden planks in the faint light cast by the moon. Despite my sympathy for the dog, my laughter
could be heard down the street. I was scolded for laughing at the faultless animal, but how could I
not?
Now, I m not an advocate for animal cruelty in any way, but this dog has been known to be rather
clumsy. From falling down stairs to landing on his face after tripping over his own feet, my dog is
falls more than the average human. The countless times my family ... Show more content on

Despite the constant scolding the dog received in his adolescent years, he would still have the
occasional accident in the house. But, as he grew older, he began to slow and finally
understood the outdoors was where his should take care of his business. Over time, he began to
sleep more than he already did and did not partake in the rigorous activities he used to. But he
attempted to do the activities he loved, he still had a bright personality and lit up at the
opportunity to eat something that wasn t his daily dose of his dry, bland dog food. Sadly, however,
age affects everyone and everything, including my beloved dog.
Slowly, he became what my family and I call old man. When we pass by him in the house or see
him after a long day of school or work, we greet him as old man with a pat on the head. Graying
around the eyes and teeth falling out, his age became increasingly apparent. His mouth became
something to avoid out of fear because of the horrible stench that emanated from it. But we still
loved him. His eyes were still beaming even if he couldn t see out of them too well and his ears
would still shoot up at the prospect of food, despite us having to yell just to grab his attention.
He struggled with the stairs, but he would still climb each step every day just to see us, even if
he fell down them once or twice. I always felt sorry for him, but he taught me how to care for an
animal that wasn t fun to play with

A Synopsis of Six Characters in Search of an Author
A synopsis of Six Characters in Search of an Author Luigi Pirandello s play, Six Characters in
Search of an Author, starts out in an empty auditorium with several Actors and their Director
preparing for rehearsal when the Six Characters walk onto the stage of the actors rehearsal in search
of a new author. The Father, on behalf of the Six Characters, claims that they, as individuals are
incomplete, because their previous author could not finish his work. Shortly thereafter the Father
and the Stepdaughter begin to tell the familys story, which is as follows. The Father and Mother
were once married, but when the Father found out that the Mother loved his assistant he let her go.
The Family of Six Characters consists of the Father, the Mother, and four children. The Son, who is
the only child of the Father and Mother, is sent off to the country to become a man. The
Stepdaughter, the Little Boy, and the Little Girl are all the children that the mother had with her
paramour during her affair. Her lover subsequently dies and the Mother, with her children, move

believed that the two figure out that they are family before things get too far. After hearing their
story the Director implores his company to act out the Family s story, which the Stepdaughter finds

Descriptive Speech At The Airport
As soon as my mom, dad, and brother s suitcases rolled into the airport I knew I was in for the
adventure of a lifetime. It was 4:00 am and even though I was exhausted excitement flowed
through my body like a river. As we boarded the plane and found our seats I heard the captain s
microphone come on Ladies and gentlemen this is your captain speaking we like to welcome
you onboard Delta airline flight to Dallas Fort Worth. The flight duration is around two hours
and we are expecting a fairly smooth flight today. Once again we thank you for choosing to fly
with us and we hope you enjoy your flight My eyes shut as soon as the wheels left the ground. I
woke up to a jolt and the captain saying, Welcome to Dallas Fort Worth! It is partly cloudy and
around 82 degrees. Thank you for choosing Delta and on behalf of the crew we hope you enjoy
your stay. As soon as we entered the airport we were already on our way to the next gate. It was
jam packed with people who all appeared to be in a rush to board their flights. We waited for about
half an hour and then boarded our next flight; this time the destination was MauiHawaii. This flight
lasted 8 hours and little did I know, it would be the longest 8 hours of my entire life. After what
felt like ages, we had finally reached Maui. I opened up my window on the plane and the view was
absolutely breathtaking. Beautiful green land, rolling mountains, and gorgeous blue water covered
the island. As we landed and entered the

No, no; I am as ugly as a bear; (Riverside Shakespeare, 1997, pg. 264 line 90 95). The jealousy
displayed by the fairy couple is slightly different from that of Helena and Demetrius. Oberon
displays jealousy toward Titania because she is in control of the changeling and will not allow
Oberon to make him his henchmen. Oberon displays this jealousy through frustration and anger
that he cannot get what he wants. Well; go thy way. Thou shalt not from this grove. Till I
torment thee for this injury (Riverside Shakespeare, 1997, pg.261 lines 67 70). Oberon is not
the only one either; Titania displays jealousy and anger toward Oberon for not being faithful to
her Why art thou here? Come from the farthest steep in India but that, forsooth, the bouncing
amazon, Your buskin d mistress, and your warrior love (Riverside Shakespeare, 1997, pg.261
line 67 70). Titania is jealous at the other women in Oberon s life and angry with Oberon for not
being faithful and disregards any of his requests as a way of getting back at him. Shakespeare
can work these themes into his play through the main characters ever so beautifully and touch on
many areas of love. Shakespeare does in fact bring in a few paradoxical qualities of love into his
plays and seems to add moral value to this play by doing so. Through the characters in the play,
Shakespeare can instill these moral values and touch on them throughout the play. Shakespeare
discusses how love is blind to

A Summary On The New Offence
1a) The new offence is triable either way meaning it is a crime which can be tried as a summary
offence (Magistrates court less serious crime e.g. petty theft) or as an indictable offence (Crown
Court with Jury more serious crime e.g. robbing a bank). If the magistrates feel that their
sentencing powers are sufficient if convicted, they can indicate they accept jurisdiction. The
defendant can then have the choice to choose if they wish to be tried in the magistrate s court or
before a jury. This is not the case in some offences e.g. case concerning criminal damage which is
less the ВЈ5000 would be tried summarily or a case on homicide would be tried upon indictment. If
tried in magistrates the maximum imprisonment sentence would be 6 months, a fine or both and in
the Crown court the maximum imprisonment sentence would be a term not exceeding 3 years, a
fine or both.
1b) Explanation of each crime is as follows:
i.Result Crime
Here the defendants conduct must create a particular result e.g. murder, where the accused s act
must cause the death of a human being e.g. R v Mellor [1996], here the defendant injured the
victim who died two days later in hospital, thus defendant was found guilty of murder by the court.
ii. Status Crime
These are offences where the actus reus (AR) consists of particular situations and sometimes a
consequence but no physical act. This is an offence of being rather than doing i.e. Winzar v Chief
Constable of Kent (1983), here the defendant

Essay on Obama s Nobel Peace Prize
Obama s Nobel Peace Prize It was announced on October 9, 2009 that American President Barack
Obama is this year s recipient of the Nobel Prize for Peace. The Nobel Foundation states that
Obama was chosen for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and
cooperation between peoples. (Nobel Foundation) Controversy and debate ensued in the world
wide media. Critics have debated Obama s worthiness. Supporters have cited numerous examples
of the current U.S. Presidents nobility. Obama does deserve this prestigious award. Nobel prizes
are awarded for Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, Peace, and Economics. In

(MacDougall) Other notable past winners include the 2007 winners Al Gore and the
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for their efforts to build up and disseminate
greater knowledge about man made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures
that are needed to counteract such change. In 2001 the United Nations and Kofi Annan shared
the award for their work for a better organized and more peaceful world and, in 1993 Nelson
Mandela and former South African President Frederik Willem de Klerk were each awarded half of
the prize for their work for the peaceful termination of the apartheid regime, and for laying the
foundations for a new democratic South Africa (Nobel Foundation) The question remains What has
the new President actually done in a mere 10 months in office to put him in the same league as past
laureates such as Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa? (Savage) Savage cites four reasons the Nobel
Committee gave to defend their choice. Obama s focus on strengthening international diplomacy
and supporting the United Nations, his work for a world without nuclear weapons, his attention to
climate change, and his improvement of human rights. In each area, Obama has made a start.

We are risking a lot of moneyin this operation, but looking out side de box, we anticipate a good future within this company and of course, within the gold sector, which we consider will be caused by increase of the gold price. Testing in Hong Kong Introduction There are many different kinds of test, as Hugh (1989) stated that test could be regarded as proficiency tests, achievement tests, diagnostic tests and placement tests. In this article, we would like to have some simple analysis on the quality of the reading test in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination of 2013. This is a newly implemented public examination in 2002 which serve with different purpose and format as the former public examination: Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) and the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE). Achievement tests are directly related to language course, their purpose being to establish how successful individual students, groups of students, or the course themselves have been in achieving objectives. (Hugh, 1989) according to this definition, HKDSE should be an achievement test. Since it is a stepping stone to get into university in Hong Kong, the DSE examination paper should have relatively high quality. By using a high standard testing paper, the quality of the universities candidates can be guarantee. Bachman (1996) has said that test qualities include reliability, construct validity, authenticity, interactiveness, impact and practicality. Additionally, Fay Sampson s Daughter of Tintagel, told in different perspectives of people who had unique relationships with Morgan, also recounts her journey to seek and acquire power from the pagan and Christian faith. In addition to her role in literature, Morgan le Fay also appears in various movies and television shows like Excalibur, Stargate, and Mists of Avalon. • 7. Beowulf Christian Influence Essay Christian Influence on Beowulf and The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki In Beowulf the Christian influence is revealed through approximately 70 passages in which the form of expression or the thought suggests Christian usage or doctrine (Blackburn 3); The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki is in its own way infused with Christian values even though it preserves remnants of the cult of Odin. The Christian element seems to be too deeply interwoven in the text of Beowulf for us to suppose that it is due to additions made by scribes at a time when the poem had come to be written down. The Christian element had to be included by the original poet or by minstrels who recited it in later times. The extent to which the Christian element is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... E. Talbot Donaldson says: Yet there is no reference to the New Testament to Christ and His Sacrifice which are the real bases of Christianity in any intelligible sense of the term. (Bloom 1). The minstrels who introduced the Christian element probably had but a vague knowledge of Christianity, much of it probably coming from other poets who were Christian, like Caedmon, who is mentioned in Bede s The Ecclesiastical History of the English People (215 18). Caedmon s Hymn has but few lines extant: . . . the power of the Creator, the profound mind of the glorious Father, who fashioned the beginning of every wonder, the eternal Lord. For the children of men he made first heaven as a roof, the holy Creator. . . .(Alexander 6) The Christian references in Beowulf include four allusions to Genesis, including the Creation, Cain and Abel and the Flood. There are dozens of references to God in the Christian sense, plus other epithets for God: lord, father, creator, ruler, almighty, ruler of men, ruler of glory, shepherd of glory, king of glory, guider of the heavens, ruler of victories, king of victories (Chadwick 24). While the poet s reflections and characters statements are mostly Christian, the customs and ceremonies, on the other hand, are almost entirely heathen/pagan (Ward v1,ch3,s3,n17): At the beginning of the poem, there is the account of the pagan funeral rites of Scyld ... • 11. New Forms Of Architecture Developed During The Renaissance... Architecture is a significant topic when looking at historical shifts of time periods, especially when looking at the artistic shifts that occurred in the transition from the Medieval period into the Renaissance. New forms of architecture are considered one of the most important achievements that formed during the renaissanceera. The form of architecture developed during this period mainly originated from Greek and Roman styles. These reappearing ideas became present in modern times in many different ways. Many architects such as Bartolommeo Bandinelli would design dome creations used mainly in the cathedrals of Florence. Not only were these domes larger and more extravagant than ever before, they were engineered in a way that their acousticsare still being studied and replicated today. The exterior elements of the Renaissance era domes were considered to be impressive artistically, but the interior elements were unique to many as well. Looking at such buildings today, you can see the detailed work that had been put in for many years in order to create such a beautiful building. The acoustics inside the dome were carefully crafted and incorporated into the structure of the dome itself, in order to enhance the ability for a crowd to hear. • 13. The Tradition Of Music Through The People Of A Sardinia... In Sardinian Chronicles, Bernard Lortat Jacob seeks to explain Sardinian music through the people involved in the creation of it. The tradition of music in Sardinia runs deep, and Lortat Jacob shows the importance it has to the residents of the island. Many lives are defined completely by music, and these people are the ones in which Lortat Jacob focuses in on to study. Deeper than this though, the author shows how a rich and dynamic scene is affected by the powerful marching of time. Particularly in the monograph, a vignette regarding the residence and life of a Sardinian craftsman named Attilio, this affliction is shown. The article shows how the Sardinian musical culture has succumb to the aging process. The fragility of a tradition is emphasized through a rich character portrayal and inferred admiration. Thick description is the method in which Lortat Jacob arrives at his conclusions, or more accurately, his notable lack of them. Such a vivd, descriptive way of writinglends itself to unique interpretation by each reader individually. By including himself, Lortat Jacob shies away from the empirical tradition of ethnography and emphasizes the importance of the character. The narrativestyleallows the author to vividly describe the events to the reader while still maintaining an interesting, engaging purpose. These methods show that the author has opted for a more wholesome, modern view of culture and ethnography. Objectivity is not needed, just a simple set of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Return From The Inn Part of the Permanent Collection at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Pieter Brueghel the Younger s painting Return from the Inn made around 1620, illustrates an outdoor winter landscape of rural peasant life in early seventeenth century Belgium. Born in 1564 or 1565 in Brussels, Belgium, Pieter Brueghel the Younger was a Flemish painter best known for being the oldest son of the famous sixteenth century Netherlandish painter Pieter Brueghel the Elder and Mayken Coecke van Aelstv (Artnet, 2016). At first contact with the painting, my eyes were immediately drawn to the center of the painting where a dominant figure of a man is highlighted not only by his large size, but also by his bright red jacket which invokes a strong presence in the painting. In contrast, the other peasant like characters wear muted, dark colors while the child s clothing in the far bottom left of the painting is almost indecipherable among the dark tree trunk. The use of the primary color red at the center of the painting emphasizes a sense of tension, urgency and motion (Herberholz, Herberholz, 2002, p. 29). However, I also observed the emanating warm palette of colors associated with this Flemish renaissance era (Pastro, 2005, p. 51). The colors are cozy and reassuring. In truth, the blue sky, light ochre buildings and the terracotta colored church, all covered with crisp white snow gives the painting its arresting quality, presenting a peaceful winter country scene. Overall, the painting presents a wide range of values and tones of colours. For instance, shades of yellow and gray are strategically painted onto the snow to represent the shoe prints of the characters. Interestingly, unlike his father, Pieter Brueghel the Youngerdepicted detailed objects in the painting through the use of representational shapes. In these artwork, the emphasis is on the realistic presentation of the subject matter. The people, objects, or landscape look very real and may be considered an imitation of nature (Herberholz, Herberholz, 2002c, p. 90). In fact, artists frequently use realistic shapes in a two dimensional artwork to represent three dimensional object forms that they see in the natural world (Herberholz, Herberholz, 2002b, p. 34). In addition, the actions of the prominent figures give the painting a series of clear lines that are sharp and even perhaps violent. In the book Artworks for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Rotational Equilibrium Lab Report An object that has rotational equilibrium, or is balances, has a net torque of 0. The torque of an object is directly proportional to the distance from the applied force to the pivot point, the applied force and its angle; and the formula is T=F*d*sinОё. In this laboratory, we unbalanced and balanced a meter stick by hanging different masses from different distance of the pivot point. In addition, the massof the meter stick was found using the torque formula. The First step was to find where the meter had rotational equilibrium, and that it is the same point where the forceof gravity acts. In our meter stick was where it marks 0.497m. Once we had the meter stick balanced, a mass of 0.268kg (m1) with the help of a clip was hanged from a distance of 0.463m (d1) from the pivot point. Creating a torque of 1.216Nm (using counter clockwise as positive direction), we had to balance the meter using a mass of 0.518kg (m2). Since the force applied was the weight of the masses, and both torque must be equal to balance the meter stick. We came up with the equation: (m2) (g) (d2) = (m1) (g) (d1), consequently,d2=(m1)(g)(d1)/(m2)(g) , and it was equal to 0.23m. Then, we locate the mass at that distance from the pivot point and it work.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On one side of the meter were acting two masses and in the other just one mass. Therefore, we made the equation: (m3) (g) (d3) = [(m2) (g) (d2)] + [(m1) (g) (d1)] and then, m3=( [(m2) (g) (d2)] + [(m1) (g) (d1)])/((g) (d3) ). The resulting m3 was 0.307kg. An alternative treatment to type 2 diabetes is insulin therapy since it is difficult to achieve desired glucose levels due to increased spread of the disease. Transplantation of pancreas or replacement of patient s islets of Langerhans is an ongoing treatment capable of achieving normoglycemia. However the limitations of immunesupression and scarcity of donor pancreas make this procedure not very desirable. Stem cells therapy has been considerd as an alternative stratergy for replacement of damaged cells , example embryonic stem cells , bone marrow stem cells etc. Initially to cure type 1 diabetes , insulin producing cells were created by transducing bone marrow stem cells with the pancreatic duodenal homobox (Pdx1) gene. Although this experiment was successful in normalizing glucose levels in streptozotocin induced diabetic mice, the low level of insulin production and the unlikeliness of producing the culture conditions in vivo make this approach unfit for clinical applications. Moreover, there was only a modest improvement in blood glucose levels by using experiments done by western blot, immunofluorscence and RT PCR. We need to further tune this treatment strategy to improve blood glucose levels to be able to beat the insulin therapy. Those with an assertive and manipulative personality tends to use that to their own benefit and completely disregard the impact their personality has on the surrounding people and themselves. In Ken Kesey s novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, he expresses the theme of powerand manipulation through two characters, Nurse Ratched and McMurphy. Both characters use their manipulative powers for their own advantage in a deceptive way that causes the patients admitted to the asylum to suffer rather than improve. Regarding Miss Ratched, she seems to show signs of passive aggressive behavior throughout the book. This behavior adds to her manipulative ways and contributed to the decrease of the patients progress (mental/physical state). Passive aggressive behavior is used to maintain control and power because it s a way for her to not display any signs of weakness. Miss Ratched, also known as the Big Nurse to the patients, fights hard to remain as the top authority figure in the Ward due to her thirst for power. Although we may not do this on purpose, it is quite normal for us to see only women unfortunately. When attending hospitals or clinics, I am often assisted by a female nurse and usually a male physician. Genderbias has largely been present within the medical field, especially when discussing nurses, physicians, or simply even medical school students. This article reached out to me as very interesting and pointed out some factors that I did not realize prior to reading the article. Discrimination based on your gender should be nothing held against us in the eyes of the medical field. Looking back into time, the association of women in nursing began in the mid 1800 s. Many of our elders have been raised associating nursing as a feminine occupation, and they have passed this belief onto their offspring. This belief has been passed down through several generations, but as time is passing, gender roles are becoming less common, and we need to translate this into nursing. When talking about gender equality, most of the time we think of women fighting for the opportunities that are provided to men. This situation is almost completely reversed. Men are now the minority fighting to have the same opportunities as women in the nursing field. We need to stop thinking of nursing as a feminine occupation, but as an occupation for all ... The first pattern I noticed in the advertisements was that all four of them showcased just one woman by herself and the second pattern was that each woman had quite a bit of skin showing. In each of them they were doing something slightly different though. In the Bottega Veneta advertisement the woman is posing with her arm up and looking off at something out of the shot and her legs seem to be never ending and completely revealed. In the Ann Taylor advertisement the model is Kate Hudson and she is sitting down on a chair with her legs crossed and is leaning a bit forward and resting her head on her arm. The slit of her dress goes up very high and reveals most of her legs and a slightly deep cut around her neck revealing part of her chest as well as all of her right arm. Also this advertisement is specifically for the new little black dress line. In the Express advertisement girl seems to be walking with her hand on her neck while simultaneously swirling the bottom of her dress around from walking. Her arm is uncovered and you see a good amount of her legs and the movement of the dress draws your eyes to that. In the Levi s advertisement the woman is facing away from the camera so we see her from behind. She is pulling up her Levi s shorts, which draws the eyes to her bottom half. The Real Life Grind Analysis The Real Life Grind Most men indeed as well as most sects in religion, think themselves in possession of all truth, and that wherever others differ from them it is so far error (Franklin 43). Many people, as Benjamin Franklin points out in his speech, Speech in the Convention, hold their opinions above others; they believe that their perspective is the most clear and realistic. Conversely, Albert Camus, a French philosopher, author and journalist from the 20th century, opposed the general view of the old Greek myth about Sisyphus s tragic fate. When everyone thought they were correct, Camus proved them wrong. Camus argued that Sisyphus s fate was not as tragic as it was speculated to be. He states, The lucidity that was to constitute his torture at the same time crowns his victory. . . The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man s heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy (Camus 17 18). The general opinion of the Sisyphus s fate was that it is tragic because he consciously knows that his labor of pushing a boulder up a mountain for eternity serves no purpose, but Camus suggests that the fact that Sisyphus knows his fate makes him the champion of it. He is the owner of that fate; Camus goes as far to say that Sisyphus enjoys his labor because on his way up, he toils to push the boulder and works willingly in spite of the gods that condemned him to this fate. When Sisyphus reaches the top of the mountain, he feels triumphant and maybe even improves himself with skills he learned on his way to the top. Identically, playing video games has the same impression. There is the misconception that playing such games are a waste of time and are meaningless labor, but if examined meticulously, playing video games have a similar grind to that of Sisyphus; they teach things to the player that only he or she can value consciously. • 39. Assignment On Breastfeeding Working Mothers First Latch Alternate Assignment: Breastfeeding Working Mothers 1LT Jacy P. Correll OBGYN Nursing Specialty Course The employed mother in the United States makes up a significant portion of America s work force and is an important contributor to a successful business and the economy. The CDC reports that working mothers make up 70% of the workforce but only 10% of mothers nationally successfully breastfeed to 6 months of age (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], n.d). Due to the increasing demands of the economy and a push for women to stay in the workforce, many more mothers are now faced with the unique challenges to maintain the ability to breastfeed as long as they can while working. Approximately, 79.2%... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is estimated that families that breastfeed can reduce costs from 1200 1500 dollars yearly (Breastfeeding and Lactation Support Policy, 2016). Employers also can be rewarded for encouraging their employees to breastfeed their infants. The Department of Health and Human Services reports that women who are able to breastfeed their infants longer have and increased attendance, reduction in insurance claims, and a decreased loss of job knowledge and turnover (Employee Lactation Support Program, 2016). Also significant, infants that were breastfeed for at least 4 months have a decreased need for health care visits and antibiotics. (Hughes 2015). To increase the access for working mothers, both the affordable care act, in the civilian sector, and the breastfeeding initiative, by the Army, have projected strict guidelines to ensure that new mothers are able to provide the best nutrients for their children. One of the major components that came from the Affordable Care Act for working breastfeeding mothers is the right for adequate space and time to pump for up to one year after birth (Wage and Hour Division, 2016). According to the law, employers are required to have a space that is private, free from interruptions from staff and the public, and most importantly, not a restroom (Hughes 2015). This space does not have to be a permanent area, but has to meet above criteria. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. South Texas Food Bank Case Study Unfortunately not all organizations see the world in a humanitarian point of view, but the handful that do includes The South Texas Food Bank. This organization was founded in 1989 and has been helping the community of Laredo ever since. The South Texas Food Bank allows the unfortunate to receive food and also educate the community about the realities of hunger. It has helped more than ten thousand families throughout the years. The reason I picked the South Texas FoodBank as the organization to get involved with was because I believe in what they are working towards. They are working towards improving Laredo, by giving the hungry food. They give bags filled with food ranging from: pasta to vegetables to rice. Each month they give up to thousands ... • 41. What Ways Does The Structure Of A Relational Database... In what way does the structure of a relational database assist the easy retrieval of information? Benefits of reducing data redundancy Reducing data redundancy will help improve the database and it assists making data retrieval more simple and easy. Data redundancy makes the storage space needed for the database smaller as it is more efficient compared to older flat based databases which wasted space as it stored the same information in more than one field. Normalisation is what is used to design the RDBMS to split the data up into related tables and then this helps to create relationships between them which enables them to communicate with each other. The main purpose is that it helps reduce the redundancy as it integrates the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It makes it faster and more efficient as the data only needs to be entered once. There will also be data validation rules that will help make sure the users can only enter data in the correct format. Also what helps make it faster is that there is only one database that can be linked to by many departments instead of having individual ones which would take up more storage space and wouldn t be efficient as they have to be changed and updated individually. As in one database for the entire organisation once a piece of data has been changed it will then be updated throughout. Efficient updating Efficient updating is done because the data only has to be entered once and after it has been changed in one place it will then be updated. Having one database is more efficient as you can update multiple items at one location, where if you had the older type you could have many databases that you would have to go through one at a time and then change and update the data. This would take more time to complete and also it could cost more money as it takes more storage space to store multiple databases where they could still have the same data but repeated so this could be combined into one database that can be used by the entire organisation. Sorting Data redundancy helps with the sorting of data because it has reduced the chances of errors by using data integrity rules such as validation rules and applying the right ... • 42. Persuasive Essay On Animal Cruelty Shrouded in darkness late one night, investigating the sky for shooting stars, the silence was shattered by a deafening sound followed by the sound of a body rolling down stairs. Quickly turning lights on, I discover my eldest dog at the bottom of the steps after tumbling down the wooden planks in the faint light cast by the moon. Despite my sympathy for the dog, my laughter could be heard down the street. I was scolded for laughing at the faultless animal, but how could I not? Now, I m not an advocate for animal cruelty in any way, but this dog has been known to be rather clumsy. From falling down stairs to landing on his face after tripping over his own feet, my dog is falls more than the average human. The countless times my family ... But he attempted to do the activities he loved, he still had a bright personality and lit up at the opportunity to eat something that wasn t his daily dose of his dry, bland dog food. Sadly, however, age affects everyone and everything, including my beloved dog. Slowly, he became what my family and I call old man. When we pass by him in the house or see him after a long day of school or work, we greet him as old man with a pat on the head. Graying around the eyes and teeth falling out, his age became increasingly apparent. His mouth became something to avoid out of fear because of the horrible stench that emanated from it. But we still loved him. His eyes were still beaming even if he couldn t see out of them too well and his ears would still shoot up at the prospect of food, despite us having to yell just to grab his attention. He struggled with the stairs, but he would still climb each step every day just to see us, even if he fell down them once or twice. • 46. A Summary On The New Offence 1a) The new offence is triable either way meaning it is a crime which can be tried as a summary offence (Magistrates court less serious crime e.g. petty theft) or as an indictable offence (Crown Court with Jury more serious crime e.g. robbing a bank). If the magistrates feel that their sentencing powers are sufficient if convicted, they can indicate they accept jurisdiction. The defendant can then have the choice to choose if they wish to be tried in the magistrate s court or before a jury. This is not the case in some offences e.g. case concerning criminal damage which is less the ВЈ5000 would be tried summarily or a case on homicide would be tried upon indictment. If tried in magistrates the maximum imprisonment sentence would be 6 months, a fine or both and in the Crown court the maximum imprisonment sentence would be a term not exceeding 3 years, a fine or both. 1b) Explanation of each crime is as follows: i.Result Crime Here the defendants conduct must create a particular result e.g. murder, where the accused s act must cause the death of a human being e.g. R v Mellor [1996], here the defendant injured the victim who died two days later in hospital, thus defendant was found guilty of murder by the court. ii. Status Crime These are offences where the actus reus (AR) consists of particular situations and sometimes a consequence but no physical act. This is an offence of being rather than doing i.e. Winzar v Chief Constable of Kent (1983), here the defendant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
