Why Righteous Gentiles Helped Jews
WHAT MOTIVATED RIGHTEOUS GENTILES TO SAVE JEWISH PEOPLE? WAS IT
ALTRUISM , ECONOMIC GAIN OR OTHER REASONS ?
BY JOSHUA GERSOHN
INTRODUCTION
During the Holocaust period (1939 1945) many Jewish lives were saved by non Jews. These
saviours were referred to as Righteous Gentiles.
Many hundreds of these non Jewish people have been honoured for their bravery and personal
sacrifice, of which the German industrialist Oskar Schindler is probably the best known.
We might never know exactly what motivated these individuals or groups to risk torture and death
under the Nazi regime to save one or a thousand Jewish lives we can merely surmise and try

Some acted purely for economic gain, others out of altruism and ... Show more content on

affluent Jews became wealthy and that was perhaps a major driving force. In 1983 when
Schindler was asked about his reasons for saving Jews he said: I hated the brutality, the sadism,
and the insanity of Nazism. I just couldn t stand by and see people destroyed. I did what I

Teamwork In Into Thin Air
Andrew Alfonso 10/10/14 English 2 Honors Section 1 Into Thin Air Essay Leadership and
teamwork are essential in success. In the Jon Krakauer s novel, Into Thin Air, the protagonists of
the story try to live out the ambitious dream of climbing Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the
world. However, tragedy strikes when an unexpected storm hits, causing the protagonists to face
the unforgiving forces of nature. Krakauer suggests that great leadership and teamwork are better
than individual achievement. Krakauer wishes for partners with experience for protection and help
on the expedition. Krakauer also shows that the failure of the expedition is due to weak leadership.
Teamwork and leadership can make or break an experience. Krakauer

The Pros And Cons Of Senator Cruz
It is sad that two grown politicians have to collude against one person who has only been a
politician for ten months in order to try and stop that person from getting the Republican
nomination. Senator Cruz has done very poorly and after his New York performance, which
was a total disaster, he is in free fall and as everyone has seen, he does not react well under
pressure. Also, approximately 80% of the Republican Party is against him. Governor Kasich,
who has only won 1 state out of 41, in other words, he is 1 for 41 and he is not even doing as
well as other candidates who could have stubbornly stayed in the race like him but chose not to do
so. Marco Rubio, as an example, has more delegates than Kasich and yet suspended his campaign

Futility In The Zookeeper s Wife
The sheer brutality of the Nazi regime prior to and during World War II not only created an aura
of futility for the millions of women caught directly in the line of sight, but also transformed the
absolute essence of coping with this futility through gendered experiences becoming radically
altered. In The Zookeeper s Wife, Antonina, as the wife of Jan Zabinski, the director of the
Warsaw Zoo, shaped both her domestic and professional undertakings around the mammals that
intricately intertwined with her life. Thus, following the German invasion of Poland and with all
semblances of life flipped on its head, she embraced the role of not only a mother for her children
and the animals, but also as a defender of those unable to escape the ruthless liquidation process of
her fellow human beings. However, the approach Antonina had as... Show more content on

those notions with consultations from barbers and consequently bleaching her hair along with

Antonina felt wretched inside knowing that as a mother she was removed and not cognizant of his

Hamlet and a Midsummer Night s Dream
In one of AMND s most enduring passages, Lysander states (Act one scene one, line 134) The
course of true love never did run smooth. The conflict that is inevitably born out of love is a
central theme at the heart of Midsummer s Night s Dream and Hamlet, but is extended by
Shakespeare not only to romantic relationships, but to familial bonds as well. The conflict is
ultimately resolved in diametrically opposing ways in each play, according to the conventions of
their respective genres. Hamlet is a tragedy, and therefore can result only in death, but AMND, as a
comedy, uses the traditional method of marriage to resolve its conflict. Shakespeare opens AMND
with the relationship between Athenian Duke Theseus and Amazonian warrior... Show more content

When Polonius finds out that Ophelia has been conducting a romance with Hamlet, he insists that
she no longer have contact with the prince: I will teach you. Think yourself a baby. (1.3.105)
Polonius convinces Ophelia that she has been naГЇve and stupid to believe Hamlet s professions of
love: Affection? Pooh! You speak like a green girl. (1.3. 101) In Polonius s dialogue,
Shakespeare repeatedly employs images of Ophelia as a child to portray how her father
psychologically controls her, by making her dependent on his commands, as a young child
would: I shall obey, my lord. (1.3.136) In AMND Shakespeare constructs a similar conflict
around a father daughter relationship, as Egeus wants his daughter Hermia, to marry Demetrius
and not her lover, Lysander. Shakespeare draws upon ancient Greek mythology to portray his
characters and their respective philosophies. Egeus displays Apollonian attributes as he
paternalistically favours a strict adherence to the law above all else, even to the point of death:
As she is mine, I may dispose of her...or to her death according to our law. (1.1.43) Egeus
commoditises his relationship with his daughter, as he considers her a possession to be controlled
and exploited. Like Polonius who commands Ophelia to set your entreatments at a higher rate
(1.3.122), Egeus s diction is replete with the language of commerce as he tries to trade his
daughter: and she is

Squeezed Persimmons By Yiyun Li

ENGL 122H 02 (Dorrill)
Assignment 1: Li Essay
Draft 1, 3 March 2015
Squeezed Persimmon The short story Persimmons was written by Yiyun Li. Li was born in 1972
in Beijing and moved to the United States in 1996 to go to college. She originally studied
immunology at the University of Iowa, but after taking a writing course she started writing fiction.
She earned her master of fine arts in 2005 with a focus on fiction (Yiyun). Persimmons is a short
story told by a group of older men sitting around a tree. They are in the middle of a drought, so
their crops and animals are dying, and they are left with nothing to do. They tell the story of Lao
Da, the protagonist of the story. After his son was murdered, Lao Da planned revenge... Show more

The term Lao Da means the boss or the leader of the group ( Lao ). The narrators show their
respect to Lao Da by calling him Lao Da and treating him as their leader, even though he is a
murderer. The reason as to why these soft persimmons resort to violence is because the county
officials treat the lower class people, such as farmers, like shit. These soft persimmons are
eventually squeezed too hard and can t take it anymore. If the people of the town were treated
fairly, they would not have to resort to such violence that Lao Da resorted to. Before Lao Da
took revenge, he tried as much as he possibly could to seek justice for what happened to his son.
He tried multiple riots with his fellows, but the county seats just pushed him aside and treated
him as if he was a dog. After that he decided to wait until New Year s Eve, when everyone would
be at their own house to individually murder the seventeen county officials, starting with the one
who murdered his son. The narrators seem to believe that the county officials Squeezed him
enough for fun, and that they Squeezed a murder out of it (Li 182). Lao Da is not only a soft
persimmon, but also a heroic

How Honey Affects White Blood Cells
Can t get to the pharmacy, or just trying to save some cash? No problem. Take a trip to the
kitchen and throw open the cupboards, says Helen Foster. Honey It s a super power when it
comes to healing scrapes, burns and cuts. A burn that s treated with a little honey will heal much
more quickly and is less likely to scar, says Professor Peter Molan from New Zealand s
University of Waikato. Recent research has revealed that honey stimulates white blood cells to
release cytokines that activate the growth of cells which repair wounds, says Molan. Any honey
will work, but manuka honey is the most powerful. Use the news: Run the burn under cold
water, then apply the honey as soon as possible and cover with a gauze dressing. You will need
about 20ml of honey for a 10cm by 10cm dressing. Daily dressing changes are usual, but you can
change it up to three times a day. If the dressing sticks to the wound it s an indicator that more
frequent changes are needed.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Trust In Julius Caesar Essay
I m not entirely sure who has been able to guess this minor fact about me, although I think it may
be only slightly obvious. I have serious trust issues. Where they stem from one could only guess. It
could be from humanity s uncanny ability to show a magnificent display of its love for betrayal
and watching those around me find their role of Julius Caesar. In my long and (quite frankly)
emotionally disappointing career as a student, I have watched friends psychologically destroy and
humiliate each other time and time again. Frequently, people are destroyed by the information they
provide to others while under the illusion of trust. I find that the simplest solution to never getting

I would not have the title of control freak if the people I found myself paired with were capable of
turning in adequate work on time. Alas, it is rarely ever so. Therefore, I am awarded the position of
Micromanager and Untrusting Person.
As safe as my closed off character keeps me, I sometimes wonder if I should be so okay with
solitude. To rely on people is to be human, and I do rely on people, but I also realize that my hate
of vulnerability might be preventing the life experiences that require trust. On the other hand, I
guess I would rather have a few best friends that know me well enough and a family that knows me
slightly better than many friends that could stab me in the back at any moment.
It might just be in my head, but anyone reading this piece (or really anything I write) might be
gaining the perception that I am a fairly negative person. That assumption would be half right. I
might not be above assuming that all people are capable of leaking secrets if it causes any
personal gain. I might not be above the unfortunate belief that anyone might do anything if the
right price is found. Privately (or maybe not so privately), I understand that the world is screwed
up worse than even I could possibly imagine. However, for a pessimist, by all standards, I actually

The Time Management Procedures I Have Developed
Two time management procedures I have developed in my internship are keeping a weekly
agenda and using a monthly calendar to keep track of larger tasks. Each Linbeck employee is
asked to keep up with a PPC (promised percent complete) agenda. At the end of the week, you
are expected to enter the meetings and tasks into a standard form. As you complete the tasks
throughout the following week, you check off the line items. At the close of business on Friday,
you are asked to grade your PPC. Any tasks that were not completed are marked as such, and you
are required to explain why the task was not finished as promised. This practice gets me to work
on only promising tasks that can be managed in the course of a week. In order to accommodate...

Utilizing a white board in your office promotes a community atmosphere that allows for productive
conversation.
The main problem I have encountered is planning for the future. In the business world, it is
impossible to tell what problems will come up. On any given day your priorities can change from
that you have planned. It is important to recognize the highest priorities and to tackle those items
first so that you can get to the items of lower priority before they become critical.
I get to work each morning at 6:30. The first thing I do is check my PPC, email, and outstanding
RFIs (requests for information) and submittals. Shortly afterwards I go to a daily engineer huddle
where there is a discussion of each engineer s planned tasks for the day. If there is time after the
meeting, I like to walk the jobsite in order to get a feel for the work of all the disciplines onsite.
Next, I get to work on the promised tasks for the day. Throughout the day, I am in and out of the
jobsite office and visiting the work in the field to keep up with progress and make note of any
issues.
The three types of meetings I am a part of are OAC (owner, architect, contractor), preconstruction,
and BIM (Building Information Modeling) coordination meetings. There is an OAC meeting on the
first and third Tuesday of every month. Our architect flies in from California on the morning of the

Michael Jordan’s Second Return to the NBA Essay
Michael Jordan s Second Return to the NBA
Michael Jordan has been of interest to me ever since I began playing basketball myself in the
fourth grade. I often found myself trying to replicate Jordan s moves and motions on the court. I
already know a great deal about Jordan because I have studied his career and practically memorized
his credentials, both as an athlete and a thriving businessperson. I often found myself staring at my
ceiling at night reciting free throw percentages and such. The main controversy when dealing with
Jordan, however, focuses not on his ability to play basketball, rather his second return to the game.
Should Jordan have returned for the second time, or should he have stayed away from the basketball
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There could be a few reasons for this. One is that they are afraid that Jordan will turn his team into
another dynasty and dominate the NBA again. Other reasons could be that they simply do not want
to see Jordan take a chance on ruining his legendary title of the greatest basketball player of all time.
I must say that ticket sales do not lie and overall, Jordan s return was a success on this parameter of
the subject.
Secondly, Jordan s performance is another subject matter to contend with when questioning his
return to basketball. It is well known that Jordan has performed well throughout his career, but
how does his performance after his return compare to his previous statistics? As per the player
profiles of Yahoo Sports, Jordan s Minutes Per Game average were 38.8 in 1997 before his
retirement and 34.9 in 2001, the first year of his return. These numbers show little reduction in
playing time. The slight decline, however, is likely due to fatigue that occurs late in the game.
When looking at his points per game, I, again, see no major deficit between the two years. In
1997 he tallied 28.7 ppg (points per game), and in 2001 his numbers only dropped to 22.9 ppg
(Yahoo Sports). These numbers show me that Jordan can still adequately play the game. If his
number were drastically lower, however, I might reconsider my claim. Based on these

Should the Federal Government continue funding Planned Parenthood? Planned Parenthood is an
organization that has been around since at least 1921. Recently, it has been in the limelight due to
the on going Presidential debates leading up to the 2016 election. It appears that the Republicans
want to take away all federal funding to shut down the clinics where as the democrats believe that
the republicans are misguided in their claims. The Planned Parenthood Federation of America is a
non profit organization, funded by the Federal Government, in which it provides reproductive

news developments, there have been rumors that Planned Parenthood practices inhumane
procedures when aborting an unborn baby to harvest their organs and that a law should be passed
to stop this. The supporters for Planned Parenthood claim that these claims are unfounded and
believe that Planned Parenthood is a wonderful association that helps women and men all around
the world. This issue has caused a series of debates that have been going on for years, but Planned
Parenthood still lives on. This current debate whether Planned Parenthood should be funded by the

Joseph Stalin s Life And Life
Joseph Stalin
On March 18, 1878 in the small town of Gori Georgia a woman named Keke Geladze give birth
to a baby boy by the name of Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili (later changed to Joseph Stalin). At the
time, obviously, Keke had no idea of what that little boy would go on to do. She had no idea that
by the end of his life that same baby boy would have a kill count of around up to 20 million
people and would have tortured millions of millions of people along with becoming one of the
most powerful man in history and Russia s dictator.
As a child, Joseph Stalin was treated below par by the children in the village, the other children
supposed they were superior. This was one of main things that caused him to crave respect as an
adult. As you know by his killcount, Joseph Stalin would rarely forgive the people that betrayed
him remorselessly.
His mother hoped that stalin would become a priest, and as you already know things didn t turn
out as she had hoped. He was enlisted in church school in 1888. A mixture of his effort and his
intelligence in school earned him a scholarship for Tiflis Theological Seminary in 1894.
In 1899 Stalin left school the official reason being he was incapable of paying the tuition thus
causing him to drop out. However there was belief that he didn t actually drop out, rather, he was
demanded to leave because of his political views. In sometime around 1902, Joseph Stalin

Hitler s Willing Executioners by Daniel Goldhagen
Not many historical works have achieved more success and have generated more heated debate
than Daniel Goldhagen s book Hitler s Willing Executioners. Goldhagen s thesis relies on the idea
that since medieval times, a specific kind of eliminationist anti Semitism had developed in
Germany. According to Goldhagen, the German population was already open to the idea of
eliminating the Jews. He also claims that when Hitler came to Power in 1933, rather than slowly
convincing the Germans to commit mass murder, he merely gave them the opportunity to do what
they have wanted to do for years. Goldhagen also inflated the number of people involved,
suggesting that hundreds of thousands were participating in the killing and that millions more
would have willingly joined in, given the opportunity. Despite the rejection of the book by many
German and non German historians, the German version of the book, published in August 1996,
sold very well. Eighty thousand copies of the German edition sold in the first month of the book s
release. By the time of Goldhagen s tour in September, three thousand copies were being sold every
single day. Facts like these show how important communication is with the public. Hitler s Willing
Executioners was successful in Germanybecause of the accessibility of the book to the German
population, the social context in which the book was produced, and the powerful marketing
campaign that preceded the book itself.

The Convergence Of Methods Of Storing Files
Americans today have seen the progression from old media to new media; majority, experiencing
for themselves the transition from pagers to cell phones, cassettes to iPods, or paper maps to
GPS devices. According to Henry Jenkins, who studies media convergence, this Convergence
[where old and new media collide] represents a cultural shift as consumers are encouraged to seek
out new information and make connections among dispersed media content (Jenkins 457). It is
through the help of convergence that old media has developed into the new media Americans see
today. The convergence of methods of storing files is an example of this. Storing files online, is

Dropbox is a cloud storage service; a business that overlooks a users data and makes that data
accessible online. Because Dropbox has introduced people to the idea of accessing wireless data,
this reveals how this type of new media has changed the way that content is produced, distributed,
and consumed. Although the use of either a USB Flash Drive (old media) or Dropbox (new
media) maintains the same objective, that is, to provide people with alternate methods of storing
data, Dropbox is becoming a standard way of accessing data with the use of the internet as a
platform. This in turn, benefits Dropbox users somewhat.
One benefit of transitioning from a USB Flash Drive to Dropbox is that Dropbox allows easy
access to documents. Dropping files into Dropbox essentially stores these files on the online

of particular events in the history of sports where injuries have caused permanent injuries and
even death. The cases of serious injuries were expressed and had heartfelt concern behind them
in his report, however, he defends these dangerous sports by further stating benefits that are
gained from participation. There is a quote from Barack Obama where he expresses his a strong
opinion on football by saying, If I had a son, I d have to think long and hard before I let him play

that he believes one s child should be able to make their own decision to play sports. The concern

Economic Policies And Economic Policy
In every country there s a government and economy. Each counties government helps or tries to
help recover, stabilize, and grow the economy. First thing we need to look at is economic policy.
Economic policy refer to actions the government makes in the economic field. For example the
taxation, the government supply, money supply, interest rates, along with the labor market, and
national ownership. Inside the economic policy you will find all sorts of things that help make the
policy stand on it s two feet. The three main parts that tie into economic policy are supply side
economics, demand side economics, and monetary policy. Each of the three economic structures
will also help define and show what all the economic policy is and... Show more content on

Now as we can see supply side has a demand for small government and less of a tax policy. Both
of which as seen in the political views of things. So to add on to what supply side economics is
you also need to remember that politics has role. Supply side economics has a little bit of a
background when you look into it. Based upon the three pillars and what each one deals with you
can see that you can not take away the political side of it because it would then demand a smaller
role for the government and a less tax policy.
So the next branch of the economic policy would be demand side. Demand side economics relates
to an economic theory that defends the use of government spending and growth in the money
supply to prompt the demand for goods and services, thus leading to the expand of economic
activity. With demand side economics there is a theory that some believe will work. Demand side
economist support government spending to the fullest. They do so because they think it will
overcome the short term low aggregates demand. Raising the market s aggregate demand will
reduce unemployment and encourage economic activity, according to this theory. By spending the
government increases demand on

Museum Critique
The art museum I chose to visit is The Frist Center in Nashville. I have been to this museum
before, but I was much younger and do not remember it being so marvelous. The entrance itself
is very fascinating. The designs below the name of the museum really caught my eye, however,
they did not catch my eyes like the eagles on the sides of the building did. Once you are inside of
the building, it was as if I instantly knew I was in for some very elegant artwork. The first
exhibit I saw was the Irving Penn: Beyond Beauty exhibit. The mood of this exhibit to me was
back and forth. I liked some of the pieces and then I did not. In my opinion, Penn was somewhat
of a demented artist. The second exhibit I walked through was Claire Morgan: Stop Me Feeling....

I have not ever in my life viewed a painting made out of sand, that looked like it was actually
painted. This piece has truly affected the way I view the world. It makes me have a little more
passionate connection with my own religion. The important message that is shown to me in this
painting is that we should not take anything for granted, especially our religion. If the monks can
travel across the world to show a piece of their religion, we should be able to get out of bed and
support our religion as well. This piece definitely reaffirms a religious belief. I think the same
affect it had on me, it could possibly happen to other believers. Everyone perceives art
differently, so there is no certainty that people will be fascinated by it like I was. This mandala
relates to my life because like the monks, I am a religious person. Along with being religious the
piece also shows the universe, but on a different level than we usually see it. The artists decided
to work the way they did because the message is more powerful this way. It sends the message
that I stated before of how they have some much passion for their religion. I am not sure why the
monks had to come from the Drepung Loseling Monastery, but I am positive that serves a purpose
as well. Everything that evolved around this painting had a purpose. I believe it was to show the
universe as the monks see it. This piece is extremely different from other art that

It s A Flat World After All
Distances and obstacles which once prevented the third world from developing have been
squelched. Not entirely, but with the advent of technology and the pace in which the world is
growing, one can see a redefining of the global landscape. Power has shifted hands and this shift
in power as well as information is imperative in the shaping of global affairs. Friedman s It s a Flat
World, After All accurately depicts this technological revolution and is in my opinion the most
relevant to the current and the future of global affairs. Friedman makes it clear that knowledge and

Comparing The Seafarer And The Wanderer
Looking at these two poems considered to be sister poems I have found distinct similarities and
differences. In The Seafarer, an old man is reflecting upon his life as a sailor. He described his
personal burdens of being on sea but he does find beauty in it. But as in The Wanderer, a warrior
is upon the ocean searching for comfort as he mourns the loss of his loved ones and society. It is
well understood that they have the feeling of loneliness in common as well as the importance in
sharing a connection with God. But there are differences as well, such as The Wandereris repining
and The Seafarer is looking back on the times he now sees as desirable. Yet as reading these
poems, I have found more similarities than differences.
First, a similar connection these two poems share is the theme of loneliness. In The Seafarer it
said, No kinsman could offer comfort there, to a soul left drowning in desolation (Seafarer, 25 25).
By his description of drowning in desolation, it could be interpreted as suffocating with devastation,
no one can soothe his lonely soul. Corresponding to The Wanderer, My heart has closed on itself,

was, drifting through winter on an ice cold sea, whirled in sorrow, alone in a world blown clear
of love, hung with icicles (Seafarer 14 18), The Seafarer is reflecting on his life wanting to return
to the sea despite his misery. In The Wanderer the narrator is blackened, talking about how he is in
need of benefaction, Grey with mourning. Once there were men to whom my heart could hurry,
not with open longing. They re long since dead (Wanderer 9 11). The Wanderer witnessed
destruction through his life and is in deep sorrow thinking about it whereas The Seafarer is

Prejudice In The DKG Writing Contest

What is prejudice? Prejudice is an assumption made about someone or something that is not
based on factual evidence. Prejudice happens to be a problem that has been around for a long
time and still remains. An example of prejudice would be racism. Someone may have a different
skin tone than one, causing you to despise them. There are no facts to show why one would
dislike another just because his or her s skin tone. An example of prejudice could also be
judgement of a person s religion. Just because someone may be Christian, Jewish, or any other
religion will allow the idea into some people s some mind to believe that they can detest someone

Summary of the article:
Mergers amp; Acquisition (M amp;A) values for 2011 year were said to exceed a trillion dollars, an
incremental percent increase over the previous years.
Nearly seven out of 10 companies planned to make at least one acquisition in 2012, significantly
higher than 2011.
In the first six months of 2012, the number of corporate Mergers amp; Acquisitions deals jumped
to nearly 5,900, up from about 5,100 in the first six months of 2011.
However, the high rate of failure of Mergers amp; Acquisitions deals, coupled with a still sputtering

Directions come from the top down, with little effort put toward engaging employees or generating
enthusiasm for the new approach.
* STRATEGIC ISSUES.
The lack of clear strategic rationale for an acquisition as being a factor that leads to failure.
A Different Model for Making Acquisitions Successful:
* ALIGNMENT AROUND A CLEAR STRATEGIC PLAN(PRE ACQUISITION)
With a clear strategic plan in place, it is much easier to identify when an acquisition can help
accelerate a company s strategy than when there is a poor strategic fit.
* WINNING HEARTS AND MINDS.
All large scale change requires buy in from individuals across an organization not only the higher
level of management.
* ENGAGEMENT OF A CROSS FUNCTIONAL INTEGRATION TEAM (POSTACQUISITION).
Mergers and acquisitions tend to fail when cultures collide.
* ADOPTION OF A LARGESCALE CHANGE FRAMEWORK.
A project management approach to strategic partnerships is well understood, and is often within the
comfort zone of financial managers.

M amp;A is a general term used to refer to the consolidation of companies. A merger is a
combination of two companies to form a new company, while an acquisition is the purchase of one
company by another in which no new company is formed.

A Career as a Sales Associate
Sports Retail Store
I will be speaking of my first job working as a sales associate for a large corporate sports retailer
(Sports Authority) I worked with employer for 3 years; during my employment I was in the
company when they were acquired by an investment firm that changed the culture, brand, inventory
management systems, employee training, and visual store setup to compete with its leading
competition (Dicks Sporting Goods).
The strategic mission for Sports Authority is to provide quality sporting goods to the budget
minded consumer. Sports Authority implements itself in the sports retail community to make sure
it has a vast quantity of goods; being known to have the lowest prices within the industry. They also
have a strong customer focus, being that they strive in meeting the consumers needs by keeping
current on current sport season trends.
Primary focus during the acquisition change phase was to transition the sales floor layout; the store
appearance from a barebones home depot style setup changed over to a new department store
layout. Reason for this change is that it was not appealing to female consumers to enter a home
depot style sports store. Late pallet jacks and forklifts were normal on floor presence.
Seasonal services also had changed; such as ski and snowboard repair and turning began being
outsourced to local ski shops since the technical services where being dissolves to have more

Women # 39
WOMEN IN HISTORY
AMELIA SHAHAN
CRITICAL ANALYSIS ESSAY 1
COLUMBIA COLLEGE
In the late 19th and early 20th century it was found that women were not being found in historical
texts. During the 1950 s and 1960 s there was interest in women s suffering, but there would not be
a true movement until the late 1960 s with the Women s Liberation Movement Success. What
started out as a tea party of four female friends in 1848 turned into a movement.
The Women s Liberation Movement sought to change the lack of history of women and to keep
the promise of a better future for women. They first wrote the Declaration of Sentiments , using the
Declaration of Independence as a guide. In this were 18 grievances. The Women s Liberation

Even with the growth of research, women history was still seen as separate from main history. In
the 1990 s a call for a history based on gender so that a focus of both could be understood. A gender
centered history can be controversial to some feminists, the concern is that women experiences may
be lost. (Mary Menard, 1995)
Various groups have now formed to help expand women s history. The Women s History Network
was created for all those who are interested in Women History. We see Women history today in
modern curriculum. Professors who focus on Women s History has also increased. With
opportunists for women in higher education that is a trend that shall continue. Women s history is
constantly developing and change will continue with this third wave of activism.

Alternative Healing Therapies Versus Western Medicine Essay
Alternative Healing Therapies versus Western Medicine
A feeble body makes a feeble mind. I do not know what doctors cure us of, but I know this: they
infect us with very deadly diseases, cowardice, timidity, credulity, the fear of death. What matter if
they make the dead walk, we have no need of corpses; they fail to give us men, and it is men we
need. Jean Jacques Rousseau 18th Century Philosopher
I feel that all options should be investigated when it comes to maintaining one s health and healing
because I have a personal positive experience using alternative and complementary medicines. I
have utilized therapies such as acupuncture, Reiki, a plant based Vegan Diet and more to assist me
in my health care goals. I have preferred Eastern medicine over that of allopathic medicine which
treats the symptoms and not the cause of the illness. Many people have worsened or even died
because of traditional Western Medicine. I personally know people who have been cured by
Alternative Therapies using acupuncture, diet, and Reiki. Considering that most Eastern Medicine
practice are thousands, even tens of thousands of years old and have been tried and tested over the
centuries speaks well for their effectiveness.
Many people agree, that most Alternative Healing therapies found in Eastern Medicine involve
whole person treatments. Traditional medicine views disease separate from the individual who

Lobbying And Anticipated Obstacles Of The Legislative Arena
Lobbying Anticipated Obstacles According to Milstead, success in the legislative arena is much
like a three legged stool, with each leg essential to the sturdiness of the stool as a whole (Milstead,
2013, p. 53). Professional lobbyist, grassroots lobbyist, and money make up the legs of the stool.
Effective influencing and persuasion would determine the success of this proposed policy. The three
legs of lobbyingcan be used with obesity advocacy. Building trusting relationships, demonstrating
interest and concern for the public good, and providing information on issues important to the
nursing profession are all things that can be done through regular participation in all aspects of the
legislative process (Milstead, 2013, p. 55).
Professional
Leg one represents professional lobbyist, who influence and persuade government entity to
achieve the particular outcome proposed (Milstead, 2013). Anyone can be a lobbyist, but it is
usually someone from a special interest group who are seen as experts. These individuals give
advice to policy and lawmakers regarding issues and rationales as to why one should or should not
support certain issues (Milstead, 2013). For this policy to be successful and gain momentum, use
of professional lobbyist is required. Examples of professional lobbyist would include the American
Nurses Association (ANA), and Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). Advancements in policies
can be achieved with support backed by these organizations and

Should Children Have Screen Time
Although both arguements seem reasonable I feel there should be a screen time limit for
children. Being in front of a screen takes children away from human interaction. Children should
be playing and using their imagination whether its inside or outside. In personal experiences,
screen play takes a mental and physical toll on children. In my personal opinion there is no reason
to have children in front of a screen for longer than an hour or two a day. While a childis sitting in
front of a screen for hours on end they arent paying any attention to the outisde world or their
surroundings. Instead of playing on a tablet or computer or watching t.v they could be playing a

They should be outside playing games and making their own things up. Children need to use
their own original thinking and problem solving. This will help their brain developement and
skills they will need in life. Screen time is mentally draining for children. The light from the
screen throws off our body clocks and can disrupt sleep. When a child doesnt sleep enough they
are more irritable and their physical activity level will go down. This can also lead into obesity.
Children need physical activity. Whos to say they will go outisde? Well children wont have
many options if screen time is taken away. Even if its not outside they will still be doing
something other than just sitting on a couch. If a child gets enough sleep they will have the
energy to do other things both physically and mentally. Screen play is mentally draining and can
cause depression. In my personal experience with my own son screen play causes him
depression, especially before bed. What ever he watches or plays the night before interupts his
sleep. It also negatively impacts his imagintion, causing him to have night mares. All of this could

Ascent Of Money
In his latest work, The Ascent of Money, Niall Ferguson goes to great lengths to convince the
reader that finance is the foundation of human progress. Ferguson starts with an attempt to
answer the questions; what is money, how is it used, and how has it evolved over time? He
argues that the evolution of credit and debt is as important as technological innovation. The
specific interest to military leaders is how money, or the lack there of, played pivotal roles
throughout history. Money to generals is the sinews of war .1 Niall Ferguson is well qualified to

Pulitzer Prize Winner, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Published in the year of 1960, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee was one of the few
American novels to be awarded with the Pulitzer Prize. The racism in To Kill a Mockingbird is
brought to life with reflective imagery. It also shows how predominant racism was in southern
states in the 1930s. There happens to be several important characters in the book, yet the character
that played a key role in the novel happens to be Atticus Finch. Atticus is a man of great integrity
and intellect. In more ways than one, Atticus possesses several qualities of a hero such as, being
determined, righteous, courageous, and instructing. Harper Lee uses several forms of
interpretation, discourse, and actions to portray Atticus as an individual of heroic qualities.
In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus best educates his children with life lessons. He states, It s when
you know you re licked before you begin, but you begin anyways and you see it through no
matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do (Lee 124). This shows that from the start of
the novel, it is clear that Atticus has been an unlucky individual, but still remains positive despite
the outcome. He excels at showing Scout and Jem courage and forbearance towards others. He
tells his children that they could learn a simple trick that would help them get along a lot better
with all kinds of people. He goes on by saying, you never really understand a person until you

Conversion Of Sto Analysis
Conversion of St. Paul (or The Road to Damascus ) was painted by Italian Baroque artist
Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio for the church of Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome. It tells
the story of St. Paul conversion. As we know from the bible, and St. Paul s letters, Saul (St.
Paul) was on his way to Damascus to prosecute Christians when he was blinded by light/ spirit
from heaven. He fell to the ground, and the spirit asked him: Saul, Saul, why do you persecute
me? (Acts 9: 1 6). Conversion of St. Paul took place in noon and on the desert so it must have
been really bright and sunny, but on Caravaggio s painting we see different scene. Background is
dark, as if the event took place at night. Caravaggio uses chiaroscuro to emphasize St. Paul
ecstasy. The servant and the horse are plunged in darkness. The artist wanted to get the feeling of
contrast between light from the sky and ordinary background, which is dark. Caravaggio gave up
painting God and angels instead he painted presence of God in divine light. There is a dramatic
contrast between supernatural light and ordinary darkness. Paul young, beautiful and ecstatic
persona is countered with very realistic image of a servant and a horse.... Show more content on

The knightly code of chivalry value honesty, honor, valor, and loyalty; however, each era adapt

loyalty to their lord, live honorable, tell the truth, respect women, never refuse a challenge,
eschew unfairness, meanness, and deceit, protect the weak and defenseless, and it goes on
(Alchin). The reality of true knightly hood is impossible. You cannot successfully abide by them
all without breaking one. The duty of the knight is a task of utter perfection. The knight has a

  • 6. Futility In The Zookeeper s Wife The sheer brutality of the Nazi regime prior to and during World War II not only created an aura of futility for the millions of women caught directly in the line of sight, but also transformed the absolute essence of coping with this futility through gendered experiences becoming radically altered. In The Zookeeper s Wife, Antonina, as the wife of Jan Zabinski, the director of the Warsaw Zoo, shaped both her domestic and professional undertakings around the mammals that intricately intertwined with her life. Thus, following the German invasion of Poland and with all semblances of life flipped on its head, she embraced the role of not only a mother for her children and the animals, but also as a defender of those unable to escape the ruthless liquidation process of her fellow human beings. However, the approach Antonina had as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Hamlet and a Midsummer Night s Dream In one of AMND s most enduring passages, Lysander states (Act one scene one, line 134) The course of true love never did run smooth. The conflict that is inevitably born out of love is a central theme at the heart of Midsummer s Night s Dream and Hamlet, but is extended by Shakespeare not only to romantic relationships, but to familial bonds as well. The conflict is ultimately resolved in diametrically opposing ways in each play, according to the conventions of their respective genres. Hamlet is a tragedy, and therefore can result only in death, but AMND, as a comedy, uses the traditional method of marriage to resolve its conflict. Shakespeare opens AMND with the relationship between Athenian Duke Theseus and Amazonian warrior... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Polonius finds out that Ophelia has been conducting a romance with Hamlet, he insists that she no longer have contact with the prince: I will teach you. Think yourself a baby. (1.3.105) Polonius convinces Ophelia that she has been naГЇve and stupid to believe Hamlet s professions of love: Affection? Pooh! You speak like a green girl. (1.3. 101) In Polonius s dialogue, Shakespeare repeatedly employs images of Ophelia as a child to portray how her father psychologically controls her, by making her dependent on his commands, as a young child would: I shall obey, my lord. (1.3.136) In AMND Shakespeare constructs a similar conflict around a father daughter relationship, as Egeus wants his daughter Hermia, to marry Demetrius and not her lover, Lysander. Shakespeare draws upon ancient Greek mythology to portray his characters and their respective philosophies. Egeus displays Apollonian attributes as he paternalistically favours a strict adherence to the law above all else, even to the point of death: As she is mine, I may dispose of her...or to her death according to our law. (1.1.43) Egeus commoditises his relationship with his daughter, as he considers her a possession to be controlled and exploited. Like Polonius who commands Ophelia to set your entreatments at a higher rate (1.3.122), Egeus s diction is replete with the language of commerce as he tries to trade his daughter: and she is ... • 8. Squeezed Persimmons By Yiyun Li Randy Benoit ENGL 122H 02 (Dorrill) Assignment 1: Li Essay Draft 1, 3 March 2015 Squeezed Persimmon The short story Persimmons was written by Yiyun Li. Li was born in 1972 in Beijing and moved to the United States in 1996 to go to college. She originally studied immunology at the University of Iowa, but after taking a writing course she started writing fiction. She earned her master of fine arts in 2005 with a focus on fiction (Yiyun). Persimmons is a short story told by a group of older men sitting around a tree. They are in the middle of a drought, so their crops and animals are dying, and they are left with nothing to do. They tell the story of Lao Da, the protagonist of the story. After his son was murdered, Lao Da planned revenge... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The term Lao Da means the boss or the leader of the group ( Lao ). The narrators show their respect to Lao Da by calling him Lao Da and treating him as their leader, even though he is a murderer. The reason as to why these soft persimmons resort to violence is because the county officials treat the lower class people, such as farmers, like shit. These soft persimmons are eventually squeezed too hard and can t take it anymore. If the people of the town were treated fairly, they would not have to resort to such violence that Lao Da resorted to. Before Lao Da took revenge, he tried as much as he possibly could to seek justice for what happened to his son. He tried multiple riots with his fellows, but the county seats just pushed him aside and treated him as if he was a dog. After that he decided to wait until New Year s Eve, when everyone would be at their own house to individually murder the seventeen county officials, starting with the one who murdered his son. Honey It s a super power when it comes to healing scrapes, burns and cuts. A burn that s treated with a little honey will heal much more quickly and is less likely to scar, says Professor Peter Molan from New Zealand s University of Waikato. Recent research has revealed that honey stimulates white blood cells to release cytokines that activate the growth of cells which repair wounds, says Molan. Any honey will work, but manuka honey is the most powerful. Use the news: Run the burn under cold water, then apply the honey as soon as possible and cover with a gauze dressing. You will need about 20ml of honey for a 10cm by 10cm dressing. Daily dressing changes are usual, but you can change it up to three times a day. • 10. Trust In Julius Caesar Essay I m not entirely sure who has been able to guess this minor fact about me, although I think it may be only slightly obvious. I have serious trust issues. Where they stem from one could only guess. It could be from humanity s uncanny ability to show a magnificent display of its love for betrayal and watching those around me find their role of Julius Caesar. In my long and (quite frankly) emotionally disappointing career as a student, I have watched friends psychologically destroy and humiliate each other time and time again. Frequently, people are destroyed by the information they provide to others while under the illusion of trust. To rely on people is to be human, and I do rely on people, but I also realize that my hate of vulnerability might be preventing the life experiences that require trust. On the other hand, I guess I would rather have a few best friends that know me well enough and a family that knows me slightly better than many friends that could stab me in the back at any moment. It might just be in my head, but anyone reading this piece (or really anything I write) might be gaining the perception that I am a fairly negative person. That assumption would be half right. Michael Jordan’s Second Return to the NBA Essay Michael Jordan s Second Return to the NBA Michael Jordan has been of interest to me ever since I began playing basketball myself in the fourth grade. I often found myself trying to replicate Jordan s moves and motions on the court. I already know a great deal about Jordan because I have studied his career and practically memorized his credentials, both as an athlete and a thriving businessperson. I often found myself staring at my ceiling at night reciting free throw percentages and such. One is that they are afraid that Jordan will turn his team into another dynasty and dominate the NBA again. Other reasons could be that they simply do not want to see Jordan take a chance on ruining his legendary title of the greatest basketball player of all time. I must say that ticket sales do not lie and overall, Jordan s return was a success on this parameter of the subject. Secondly, Jordan s performance is another subject matter to contend with when questioning his return to basketball. It is well known that Jordan has performed well throughout his career, but how does his performance after his return compare to his previous statistics? As per the player profiles of Yahoo Sports, Jordan s Minutes Per Game average were 38.8 in 1997 before his retirement and 34.9 in 2001, the first year of his return. These numbers show little reduction in playing time. The slight decline, however, is likely due to fatigue that occurs late in the game. When looking at his points per game, I, again, see no major deficit between the two years. In 1997 he tallied 28.7 ppg (points per game), and in 2001 his numbers only dropped to 22.9 ppg (Yahoo Sports). These numbers show me that Jordan can still adequately play the game. Hitler s Willing Executioners by Daniel Goldhagen Not many historical works have achieved more success and have generated more heated debate than Daniel Goldhagen s book Hitler s Willing Executioners. Goldhagen s thesis relies on the idea that since medieval times, a specific kind of eliminationist anti Semitism had developed in Germany. According to Goldhagen, the German population was already open to the idea of eliminating the Jews. He also claims that when Hitler came to Power in 1933, rather than slowly convincing the Germans to commit mass murder, he merely gave them the opportunity to do what they have wanted to do for years. Goldhagen also inflated the number of people involved, suggesting that hundreds of thousands were participating in the killing and that millions more would have willingly joined in, given the opportunity. Despite the rejection of the book by many German and non German historians, the German version of the book, published in August 1996, sold very well. Eighty thousand copies of the German edition sold in the first month of the book s release. By the time of Goldhagen s tour in September, three thousand copies were being sold every single day. Primary focus during the acquisition change phase was to transition the sales floor layout; the store appearance from a barebones home depot style setup changed over to a new department store layout. Reason for this change is that it was not appealing to female consumers to enter a home depot style sports store. Late pallet jacks and forklifts were normal on floor presence. Seasonal services also had changed; such as ski and snowboard repair and turning began being outsourced to local ski shops since the technical services where being dissolves to have more associates be on the floor focusing on customer service. During the 1950 s and 1960 s there was interest in women s suffering, but there would not be a true movement until the late 1960 s with the Women s Liberation Movement Success. What started out as a tea party of four female friends in 1848 turned into a movement. The Women s Liberation Movement sought to change the lack of history of women and to keep the promise of a better future for women. They first wrote the Declaration of Sentiments , using the Declaration of Independence as a guide. In this were 18 grievances. The Women s Liberation Movement ... In the 1990 s a call for a history based on gender so that a focus of both could be understood. A gender centered history can be controversial to some feminists, the concern is that women experiences may be lost. (Mary Menard, 1995) Various groups have now formed to help expand women s history. The Women s History Network was created for all those who are interested in Women History. We see Women history today in modern curriculum. Professors who focus on Women s History has also increased. • 34. Alternative Healing Therapies Versus Western Medicine Essay Alternative Healing Therapies versus Western Medicine A feeble body makes a feeble mind. I do not know what doctors cure us of, but I know this: they infect us with very deadly diseases, cowardice, timidity, credulity, the fear of death. What matter if they make the dead walk, we have no need of corpses; they fail to give us men, and it is men we need. Jean Jacques Rousseau 18th Century Philosopher I feel that all options should be investigated when it comes to maintaining one s health and healing because I have a personal positive experience using alternative and complementary medicines. I have utilized therapies such as acupuncture, Reiki, a plant based Vegan Diet and more to assist me in my health care goals. I have preferred Eastern medicine over that of allopathic medicine which treats the symptoms and not the cause of the illness. Many people have worsened or even died because of traditional Western Medicine. I personally know people who have been cured by Alternative Therapies using acupuncture, diet, and Reiki. Considering that most Eastern Medicine practice are thousands, even tens of thousands of years old and have been tried and tested over the centuries speaks well for their effectiveness. Many people agree, that most Alternative Healing therapies found in Eastern Medicine involve whole person treatments. Traditional medicine views disease separate from the individual who harbors it. • 35. Lobbying And Anticipated Obstacles Of The Legislative Arena Lobbying Anticipated Obstacles According to Milstead, success in the legislative arena is much like a three legged stool, with each leg essential to the sturdiness of the stool as a whole (Milstead, 2013, p. 53). Professional lobbyist, grassroots lobbyist, and money make up the legs of the stool. Effective influencing and persuasion would determine the success of this proposed policy. The three legs of lobbyingcan be used with obesity advocacy. Building trusting relationships, demonstrating interest and concern for the public good, and providing information on issues important to the nursing profession are all things that can be done through regular participation in all aspects of the legislative process (Milstead, 2013, p. 55). Professional Leg one represents professional lobbyist, who influence and persuade government entity to achieve the particular outcome proposed (Milstead, 2013). Anyone can be a lobbyist, but it is usually someone from a special interest group who are seen as experts. These individuals give advice to policy and lawmakers regarding issues and rationales as to why one should or should not support certain issues (Milstead, 2013). For this policy to be successful and gain momentum, use of professional lobbyist is required. Examples of professional lobbyist would include the American Nurses Association (ANA), and Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). • 36. Should Children Have Screen Time Although both arguements seem reasonable I feel there should be a screen time limit for children. Being in front of a screen takes children away from human interaction. Children should be playing and using their imagination whether its inside or outside. In personal experiences, screen play takes a mental and physical toll on children. In my personal opinion there is no reason to have children in front of a screen for longer than an hour or two a day. While a childis sitting in front of a screen for hours on end they arent paying any attention to the outisde world or their surroundings. They should be outside playing games and making their own things up. Children need to use their own original thinking and problem solving. This will help their brain developement and skills they will need in life. Screen time is mentally draining for children. The light from the screen throws off our body clocks and can disrupt sleep. When a child doesnt sleep enough they are more irritable and their physical activity level will go down. This can also lead into obesity. Children need physical activity. Whos to say they will go outisde? Well children wont have many options if screen time is taken away. Even if its not outside they will still be doing something other than just sitting on a couch. If a child gets enough sleep they will have the energy to do other things both physically and mentally. Screen play is mentally draining and can cause depression. In my personal experience with my own son screen play causes him depression, especially before bed. What ever he watches or plays the night before interupts his sleep. It also negatively impacts his imagintion, causing him to have night mares. All of this could be avoided if we sat down with our children and read them a book or played a game with them ... Language is all the ways in which we communicate with others. Since birth, language has always been around us from where we grew up to where we are currently living. The specific interest to military leaders is how money, or the lack there of, played pivotal roles throughout history. Pulitzer Prize Winner, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Published in the year of 1960, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee was one of the few American novels to be awarded with the Pulitzer Prize. The racism in To Kill a Mockingbird is brought to life with reflective imagery. It also shows how predominant racism was in southern states in the 1930s. There happens to be several important characters in the book, yet the character that played a key role in the novel happens to be Atticus Finch. Atticus is a man of great integrity and intellect. In more ways than one, Atticus possesses several qualities of a hero such as, being determined, righteous, courageous, and instructing. Harper Lee uses several forms of interpretation, discourse, and actions to portray Atticus as an individual of heroic qualities. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus best educates his children with life lessons. He states, It s when you know you re licked before you begin, but you begin anyways and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do (Lee 124). This shows that from the start of the novel, it is clear that Atticus has been an unlucky individual, but still remains positive despite the outcome. He excels at showing Scout and Jem courage and forbearance towards others. • 43. Conversion Of Sto Analysis Conversion of St. Paul (or The Road to Damascus ) was painted by Italian Baroque artist Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio for the church of Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome. It tells the story of St. Paul conversion. As we know from the bible, and St. Paul s letters, Saul (St. Paul) was on his way to Damascus to prosecute Christians when he was blinded by light/ spirit from heaven. He fell to the ground, and the spirit asked him: Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? (Acts 9: 1 6). Conversion of St. Paul took place in noon and on the desert so it must have been really bright and sunny, but on Caravaggio s painting we see different scene. Background is dark, as if the event took place at night. Caravaggio uses chiaroscuro to emphasize St. Paul ecstasy. The servant and the horse are plunged in darkness. The artist wanted to get the feeling of contrast between light from the sky and ordinary background, which is dark. Caravaggio gave up painting God and angels instead he painted presence of God in divine light. There is a dramatic contrast between supernatural light and ordinary darkness.
