Owls Vs Risers
The Merriam Webster defines sleep as the natural periodic suspension of consciousness during
which the powers of the body are restored. Although many people don t recognize the value of
sleep, it is a very essential part of life. There are many differences between a night owl and an
early riser. Research proves that there are many benefits as well as negative results to both
sleeping habits. Unfortunately, night owls are more likely to develop diabetes and other health
issues like reduced muscles mass. In contrast, early risers are destined to live a long healthy life.
It is also proven to help sustain a healthier diet when you wake up early. On the other hand night
owls crave more food, and tend to binge eat. The body realizes its

Edgar Allen Poe s Annabel Lee
Happily N Ever After Annabel Lee was the last complete poem of Edgar Allan Poe, published
sometime after his mysterious death in 1849. The poem, much like many of his other works, is
about a young woman named Annabel Lee, with whom the speaker is in love with and who
tragically dies. Poe had a lot of women die in his life, and though it is unclear who the poem is
about, it has been interpreted to be about his wife Virginia, who had died young. He places
blame on the angels for Annabel s death, who appear to be his foes instead of the friendly beings
they are commonly portrayed as. The speaker proclaims his undying love for Annabel, who is
separated from him by several different forces, by using imagery, symbolism, and dreamlike diction.

The opening line, It was many and many a year ago (1), mirrors the Once upon a time line many
fairytales employ. The phrase In a kingdom by the sea (2) is repeated four times in the poem; the
word kingdom conjures an image of a castle, a common backdrop for fairytales. This image is
upheld throughout the poem by the repetition of this phrase. Poe s choice of diction places the
story in a romantic setting, intensifying the love they have for each other, which is much like the
love that princes and princesses have for each other in those stories. Their love reflects the true
love that has become a staple of fairytales, and it is so strong that the speaker still harbors these
feelings toward her. The fairyland setting serves to reinforce the ardent love these two have, making

Satire is Used in the Portraits, Gin Lane, by William...
What is satire? According to oxforddictionaries.com, satire is The use of humor, irony,
exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people s stupidity or vices, particularly in the
context of contemporary politics and other topical issues. This literary device is portrayed heavily
in both the illustrations Gin Lane by William Hogarth and in Untitled by Paul Kuczynski. Gin Lane
is basically an illustration by William Hogarth that depicts life in the gin shops and shows the
negative effects the drink had on the people of London. It shines a light on the horrible
circumstances London was under when gin was introduced to its people. Unititled is an illustration
by Paul Kuczynski that represents how our current society... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the top story of one the buildings fortunate to still be standing, is a man who has hung himself
from the rafters. Willaim Hogarth used all these startling scenes to grab the attention of the viewer
and give them an insight on London at its lowest. Through Gin Lane, Hogarth expressed the
ravenous effects gin had on the people of London and how it affected the living environment as
well. Untitled by Paul Kuczynski also contains satire, however the author of this portrait uses satire
to depict the theme of isolation, instead of misery, poverty, ruin and neglect. This simple, yet
thought provoking picture, shows a man looking through a periscope that is shaped like the
Facebook symbol, to see through a window above an open door. The door is not barricaded in
any way, shape or form, so the man is able to walk outside and see what is going on in the world
first hand. Instead, he chooses to stay inside by himself and view the world through Facebook.
Through Untitled, Kuczynski conveys the message that social media interaction is overtaking
physical interaction. People are more likely to go on social media to find out what is happening
than to go out and experience it themselves. Kuczynski s painting greatly showcases that even in its
simplicity. Despite the fact that both pieces of art contain various differences, they contain
similarities as well. Some of the differences include the message portrayed, themes and the style of
drawing. In Hogarth s

Dbq New Imperialism
Many times throughout history imperialism has been practiced by various major super powers of
the world. For example, Western Europe decided they would extend their power after the Industrial
Revolution since they became so wealthy from it. They expanded their empires into Africa, India
and China. This is known as the New Imperialism. The desire for expansion was motivated by the
hope of economic growth and more power. There are five types of Imperialism and many positive
and negative views about them. One of the five types of Imperialism is giving economic and
military aid. This can be helpful to the colonies and the mother country. Another is a sphere of
influence. This is an area in which an imperialistic country can do business privately... Show more

When the colonies become ruled by a mother country this means the natives will most likely
become slaves (Document 2). The European countries will benefit from their labor. In Africa
missionaries came and the natives didn t like them (Document 4). The Africans thought of them
very negatively because they used religion as means to gain trust so they could conquest the
natives land. Also, new diseases were introduced to the natives by the Europeans. There were
many more negative effects of imperialism in Africa like their loss of dignity and their ability to
lead themselves (Document 6). This is because the Europeans taught them that their culture was
inferior to theirs. In the political cartoon in Document 7, it shows a cartoonist implying that
Europeans work the natives in the colonies very hard all for the money. They don t care about
the natives well being. In India, the British took over and many bad effects occurred as result to
this. Like, Indian resources going straight to Britain. Also British manufactured good replaced
Indian local industry. Farmers were forced to grow cash crops like tea and cotton and Indians
went hungry. Also, top jobs were reserved for the British. This left many Indians unemployed.
The Indians were treated as inferiors in their own country. Many wars broke out due to racism and
which mother country wanted which colony. Like in Africa the Boers War in 1899 was a
confrontation between the English and the Dutch when England wanted to take the Cape Colony
from the Dutch. Another war in Africa caused by Imperialism is the Zulu war. The Zulu war was
caused by British aggression. In China the Opium war was between Great Britain and China. It
began in 1839 as a conflict over the opium trade that ended in 1842 with the opening of five
Chinese ports to foreign merchants. But the worst effect of Imperialism is when the mother country
tries to replace the culture of the

cannot process the sugar fast enough. So this amount of sugar tells the pancreas to make insulin,
which is the fat producing hormone. High insulin levels also have the problem of blocking the
Full! signals that travel to a person s brain. From there, the converted sugarenergy gets stored in the

This is often common with low fat foods, and certain carbohydrates, as they turn into sugar, and
eventually, fat.

William Clover, talking about his experience in Lyon, the second largest city in France in his
book The French Don t Diet Plan, says, A... search on the official Lyon website revealed that
there are no gyms in that city. This might confuse some people, as they think about the thin, and
small waistlines of our Parisian counterparts. How can people not work out, but still say so thin?
The answer is simple, they get their exercise elsewhere. They are very active people, while
Americans are often lazy, or only exercise without taking diet into consideration. Actually, before
1953, it was common knowledge that exercise could cause heart attacks and diminish sex drive.
That was until a study in 1953 showed that a fat and a skinny mouse ate the exact same, but had
a difference due to the fat mouse s unhealthy habit of not exercising on his wheel. Fast forward to
1980, and in the next two decades, fitness club memberships doubled. The only problem is,
obesity rates doubled as well. Billions went to trying to lose weight, and a fitness revolution
sparked across the nation. It was easily seen that gyms were expanding, but waistlines expanded as
well, and a decade later, two thirds of Americans were overweight or obese.

Informative Essay On Quantico
Quantico, a new dramatic television show, created by Joshua Safran, explores the lives of young
FBI recruits who have come to Virginia for training to become special agents. The recruits are
considered the best and the brightest, but each one possesses secrets, including hidden reasons for
enlisting. One recruit is harboring the biggest secret of all, and ends up being suspected of
masterminding the biggest and most deadly attack on U.S. soil since 9/11 (Quantico). As you can
see, Quantico is rather interesting and always keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.

While the plot of these events shows what is happening in current time, the show also features

Essay on Measuring Customer Satisfaction in Government...
Being in the government sector the research for customer satisfaction was focused on
governmental agencies and the aspects associated with those agencies. Most citizens have a

based on real experiences. This was done by researching and finding results either supporting or
contradicting this notion. According to Tom Schoop the governmentdoes as well as any big

This was best illustrated with the failure of the Healthcare Act s website s inability to handle this
increasing demand. (ACSI Federal Government Report 2013, 2014) The best way for the federal
government to address these customer issues is improve access to the websites. Encourage
agencies to communicate with the customer and learn accessing behaviors and functions that would
increase the ability to access the website efficiently.
The second area is in the state of Texas customer satisfaction with the Texas Workforce
Commission. As mentioned previously, the recipients of unemployment benefits (UI) have only
two options to access their benefits or their profiles as well as file claims. The 1 800 phone
number or through the Texas Workforce Commission s (TWC) website. This area I have over
three years experience and have observed customer s reactions as well as read customer surveys.
This has increased confusion in older and first time recipients. Many of the older recipients
received UI benefits previously when they would visit a TWC office to file their claim and receive
benefits. This has all been move to the phone or the Internet so they require additional assistance
where it was not needed previously. This creates confusion and further irritates the customer when
they arrive at the Workforce Center expecting the same and find out about the

Summary Of The Last Of The Mohicans
Throughout Cooper s novel the reader and Hawkeye are provided with many oppositions and
situations based on Culture, Race, and Geography that creates many tensions throughout the
novel. The Last of the Mohicans tends to be centered on the Character Hawkeye, a pathfinder
and pioneer that links the wilderness and civilization as mediation. The text itself is driven to be
a generic paradox and an encompassing narrative, the history with romance and the disagreement
between fact and fiction. Cooper uses a blend of facts and fiction in many scenarios. The third
year of the Indian and French War The Last of The Mohicans suppresses the boundaries or
outlines that divide literature and history in order to create a narrative of American, within which
the real man can be understood. Hawkeye, who is so to say a typical American is between the
fiction and fact boundary. He links the people and the actual events of the period of time to fit right
in to Coopers genre. The Indian Nations, Fort William Henry massacre, Colonel Munroe, and
Marquis de Montcalm are all based on fact but then Cooper intertwines significant romance.
Coopers chosen genre, historical romance, is based on the movement between the stages of cultural
development or hostile civilizations. It allows cultural self awareness and analysis, which allows
the narrative expression. In a traditional narrative love is a quest rather than a cultural analysis. The
texts movement tracks the hero as he or she enters the unknown

The Hawksbill Sea Turtle And The Sea Turtles
The Hawksbill Sea Turtle is one of seven species of sea turtles that inhabit the ocean. Their
scientific name is Eretmochelys imbricata and they belong to the cheloniidae family. The
hawksbill sea turtles are named for their hawk like beak. They also have a carapace with an
overlapping pattern of scales that form a jagged edge along the shell. They are found mainly
throughout the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans. According to the national geographic, they
tend to avoid deep waters and prefer coastlines where they can feast on sponges and with sandy
beaches close by for nesting. According to the U.S Fish wildlife service of North Florida, the

Not only are they poached specifically for their shell, but also for their meat for consumption of
humans but also to be used as shark bait for fisherman. According to the National Wildlife
Federation, many sponges and small animals consumed, are toxic. The hawksbill body fat absorbs
the toxins without making the turtle ill, but their meat is potentially poisonous to humans (National
Wildlife Federation). The IUCN also states that Hawksbill Sea Turtles are also sought out for their
hatchling eggs.
The next cause for decreasing hawksbill population is the loss of habitat. Degradation such as
pollution being introduced to the oceans including untreated sewage, exhaust, trash, chemicals
such as pesticides and fertilizers, industrial and powerplant emissions and oil spills make their
way into the water and the natural environment for this species and all ocean species that break
down and destroy the ecosystem that they use to survive. Habitat destruction is also a factor that
is a risk to this species chance of survival is human filling in wetlands and rivers to build for
businesses and residential. Development for tourism is destructing nesting habitats for this species
as well as all sea turtle species.
Entanglement and ingestion of fish line and fishing nets is another cause for fatalities in the
Hawksbill sea turtle species. Water craft strikes also contribute to injuries and fatalities amongst this
species.

Camera Lucida Analysis
The Indexical Experience in Camera Lucida
Roland Barthes analysis of the photograph in Camera Lucida is based on his introspective
experience with photography s appearance. The book consists of reflections of emotions felt during
his experiences, which essentially defines a phenomenological approach. Phenomenology,
according to David Woodruff Smith, is concerned with the things as they appear in our
experience...thus the meanings things have in our experience (Smith). For photography, the
appearance of the photograph is produced through the physical relationship between the referent
photographed and how it is imprinted in film. Therefore, in the experience of a photograph for
Barthes, the sign is determined by that physical relationship. Although, Barthes analysis of the
photograph includes both indexical and iconic aspects, this paper seeks to argue that the indexical
aspect of a photograph is the prominent sign of the photograph because of Barthes
phenomenological approach to photography. To be clear, I am analyzing how Barthes perceives
photography as indexical from his phenomenological approach and proving how it serves the
indexical sign.
First, we must consider how Barthes speaks of indexicality when describing the Camera Lucida s
purpose, which he says is to find the noeme of photography. He eventually concludes that the noeme
is the undeniability of that has been , which refers to the indexical truthfulness of what has
physically been in front of the camera. He

The Renaissance Er The Era Of The Individual
The Renaissance period started in the 14th century and later ended in the 16th century. Right after
the Gothic era ended the Renaissance period was born. Additionally, people believe that the Gothic
era contained artwork that later evolved in the Renaissance time period. For instance, Gothic art had
a naturalistic representation and so did Renaissanceart. However, it was more obvious in the
Renaissance art. During this time period there was sparks of interest in the sciences and arts.
Before many people had forgot about them or either had no interest in them. The last time those
two subjects were at a high note was before the middle ages. This revival of sciences and arts
took place during the fifteenth century and is known as the Renaissance. The word Renaissance
is French and means rebirth , which perfectly describes what happened to the arts and sciences.
Ultimately, the Renaissance era was the era of the individual. Renaissance art included human
beings and was a change in the art world. The last time human beings were being represented in
art was during classical antiquity. For instance, an artist named Donato Bardi created a naked life
size sculpture. He named it David and gave it contrapposto pose, which means the human figures
legs and hips are turned in the opposite direction of the shoulders and chest. Bardi was the first
artist to create a naked life size sculpture during this time period. The architecture artwork created

Ambiguity Of Compatibilism
The logical positivist philosopher Rudolf Carnap (1978) writes,
Metaphysicians are musicians without musical ability. [...] the metaphysician confuses [science and
art] and produces a structure which achieves nothing for knowledge and something inadequate for
the expression of attitude. (P.80)
I agree with this position completely. In the free will debate, compatibilism is the view that physical
determinism and human freedom co exist. By arguing compatibilism ultimately changes the subject
from human freedom, I claim the concept of free will is meaningless. In essence, compatibilist
arguments exploit the ambiguity of language, indefinable metaphysical notions, and unsound
reasoning. In this essay, I attempt to eliminate compatibilism. First, ... Show more content on

Hobbes, an early modern English philosopher, champions materialism that everything is made of
matter and in extension, endorses determinism in favor of a mechanistic worldview, that the
world straightly follows a set of rigid natural laws. (Chappell, 1999, P. xii) He also believes in free
will; a free agent is he that can do if he will, and forbear if he will , in accordance to [his]
intrinsical quality . (Hobbes, 1999, P. 39) Hobbes (1999) thinks analogously a river has free will
because there is no external impediment , a person s action is free because he is not hindered
from it. (P. 95) Free will , for Hobbes (1999), means occurrences without obstacle, in animate or
inanimate objects. (P. 96) One can say a drop of rain is free because a raindrop is following its
gravitational nature as one agrees human beings are free because they act according to their
nature, which is composed of values and desires. (Chappell, 1999, P. xviii) Thus, free actions are
not contradictory to a deterministic world because all objects actions follow from their own
natures, which imply they are all voluntary and free. (Hobbes, 1999, P. 37) Hobbes argument is
attractive because, unlike Sober, it does not require alternative possibility, even if everything in the
world is rigidly determined by physical laws, the agents can still be described as

Pet Shop Boys and Beauty Essay
Success amp; Jealousy in Beauty Beauty, written by Jane Martin in the mid nineteen hundreds, is
an ironic play about two successful women, Bethany and Carla. Both women were the same age yet
complete opposites. They also had completely different personalities and were unhappy with their
lives. Martin casted and characterized them this way to illustrate a few themes. The drama was
mainly centered on the theme that no one is ever happy unless they get their wishes granted.
However, in these two women s cases, getting what they wanted caused them to realize there is
nothing wrong with being different. These two themes can be seen through the two character s
success, jealousy, and a genie. Bethany and Carla experienced success in... Show more content on

Bethany just considered a self a disgrace and a piece of trash. Carla explained, Bethany is
beautiful and she has the charm, personality, and is perfectly pretty (736). Of course, Bethany
places a stereotype on beautiful by saying, it is the real deal. Carla gets discounts on makeup for
no reason. Parents treat beautiful children better and they even statistically get paid more.
Beautiful people can have sex any time, any place (736). Carla, confused, did not understand
why Bethany wanted to be just like her. Bethany hated Carla most of the time because of her
beauty. This leads Carla to go on a rant about beauty and why it is so difficult to live and be
beautiful simultaneously. Carla tells Bethany to be herself and she will have an amazing life.
Bethany begs to differ and says, it is what everyone wants to be. Money can only make you buy
things. Beauty makes you the center of the entire universe. All eyes are always on those
individuals that are beautiful (736). Carla says, Bethany will hate her life is she was beautiful.
She would be miserable and unhappy (736). Bethany then pulls out a genie in a bottle. Bethany,
determined, reiterates, Carla s thoughts do not matter. Carla was just lying about everything,
which explains why she had no friends or a long relationship. Bethany wanted to be just like
Carla, and she had a god dam genie and only one wish to make (736). Bethany indeed used her

Yu Wenzhou Stigma
According to Erving Goffman, stigma is an attribute that makes a person different from others in a
social category, and reduces the person to a tainted or discounted status (134), but any difference
between human beings could be potentially stigmatizing. Anything outside of the ordinary or the
standard, that is, anything that creates a sense of uncertainty can in turn drive people to fear
differences, fear the future, fear the unknown and therefore stigmatize that which is different and
unknown. (Coleman Brown, 155) Then, the question is, would stigma persist if people didn t feel
threatened, inferior, or insecure? In the case of Yu Wenzhou, the Captain of Blue Rain in the
Chinese anime, King s Avatar, it seems that even if the situation... Show more content on

As someone who resides in a group of majority who carries a high standard APM, Wenzhou s
handicap is potentially stigmatizing. Yet, despite Ye Xiu s trash talk, Wenzhou is largely
unfazed. Although his low APM causes Wenzhou mild frustrations, he has the clarity of mind to
recognize his strengths over his weaknesses Wenzhou s ability to analyze (00:10:45 00:11:12)
entitles him Master Tactician and King of Analysis. In fact, his tactical ability was like an all
knowing God (Blue, Chapter 338) because he found all the dead angles in the battle and
launched a surprise attack against his opponents. In this instance, it seems like the Chinese
society sees disability as something that can be compensated for, and if the person being
stigmatized does not feel inferior, then the stigma would not affect. As a matter of fact, Wenzhou
not only acknowledges his handicap (Blue, 00:11:36 00:11:41), but he also playfully calls
himself a handicapped person (00:11:51 00:11:54) as he challenges Ye Xiu to a duel. Wenzhou s
response and clarity of mind seems to correspond with Coleman Brown s suggestion that people
with low self esteem are more likely to identify and maintain negative stereotypes. However, it may
be more reasonable to consider Wenzhou s disability as a balancing act rather than a compensation.

Lady Lazarus, by Sylvia Plath
Lady Lazarus is a poem by Sylvia Plath, written in 1962 shortly before her death in early 1963,
and published posthumously by her husband, poet Ted Hughes, in 1965 in the collected volume
Ariel. Lady Lazarus is a poem about suicide as a rebirth, and was in part inspired by Plath s own
life and draws heavily on Plath s lifelong struggle with bipolar depression and suicidal feelings,
and uses holocaust imagery to paint a bleak portrait of suicideand hopelessness. Sylvia Plath was
born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1932 to a German immigrant college professor and his graduate
student turned wife. The early years of Plath s life were comfortable, spending much of her time
near the seaside. After losing her father in 1940, Plath and her... Show more content on

The title of the poem, Lady Lazarus, is a reference to the biblical story of Lazarus of Bethany, a
man brought back to life by Christ as a demonstration of his divine power to non believing
onlookers. (The Holy Bible, King James Version, John 1 44.) The speaker in the poem compares
her near death experience and suicide attempts to a resurrection or rebirth, such as in the story
of Lazarus. In the first stanza the speaker declares that every ten years she dies, drawing an eerie
parallel to Plath s own life. At eight, Plath lost her father and this sparked an immense resentment
towards him and strong feelings of alienation throughout the rest of her life; this was her first
death, and the speaker declares this death an accident in stanza 12, lines 2 3. Her second death
was intentional. (stanza 13) This death came at age twenty when Plath attempted suicide for the
first time. The speaker in the poem says that this death was meant to be permanent and she did not
wish to be reborn. (stanza 13, line 2.) The third and final death was Plath s suicide at age thirty,
only a few months after Lady Lazarus was written. In a way, Plath hinted at her worsening mental
state through this work. In stanza seven, the speaker says she is only thirty, as was Plath at the time
she wrote this poem. The speaker alludes to coming suicide attempts by comparing herself to a cat
with nine lives, indicating that

A Report On The Energy Project Programme
Assignment A
During the summer of 2014 I took part in the Energy Project programme, I was paired with a
small heating engineering company, Global Celsius solutions. The company had recently
developed a cheap, rugged and reliable water boiling system, the Jompy boiler. The system itself
took advantage of compact heat exchanger design principles incorporating a high surface area,
minimising the footprint of the system without sacrificing overall performance, the boiler was
capable of producing water in excess of 70oC within a matter of 5 7 seconds(from my own
experience with the boiler). The overall aims of the project included:
1.Researching possible rental markets, with an emphasis on sustainable development.

The purpose of the hiring of the local partners is to take advantage of their knowledge of the local
populace, for example if a potential customer has a reputation of looking after their belongings and
being good on their word concerning their repayments, then a set minimum deposit would be
implemented, and vice versa for a person notorious for abuse of equipment and poor money
management. The key would be to ensure that the monthly repayments would remain consistent.
After approximately 8 months the Jompy is paid off, instead of increasing profitability of the
scheme after this benchmark all excess repayments are invested back into local development and
infrastructure (schools, education fees, stationary etc). My task was to investigate potential
problems faced by the model and if any companies had successfully implemented like minded
schemes. To accomplish this, the potential problems of the model had to be identified in this case
one of the main problems involved initiating an honest and mutually beneficial relationship with
these Sub Saharan local communities. This came in the form of formulating potential marketing
strategies and suggesting forms of engagement towards those who would benefit most from the
product. Another of the main goals

Al Qaeda s Role In War
In 1989, al Qaeda was born. Al Qaeda, meaning the base in Arabic, is a group that was formally
called the mujahedeen, a group of holy warriors. Their formation took place after the Soviet
invasion of Afghanistan which caused young Muslims to come together and rally against what
they perceived as invaders. After the Soviets failed and left, all the precipitants decided the group
should not disappear. They decided there was still a cause to fight for. In fact, the United Stateshad
an important response to the mujahedeen during the Soviet invasion. In 1979, President Carter
signed a directive for secret aid to the warriors and the CIA started funding the mujahedeen in 1980.

against America, but their involvement was somewhat of a secret. Al Qaeda wanted to show the
U.S. their power again by directly attacking the United States men stationed in Somalia. The
United States had no response to this attack. Al Qaeda was emboldened by this attack. It was
their first successful attack on the U.S. since the United States government had no response they
gained confidence in their efforts. The 9/11 Commission released a statement that the CIA did
not know of bin Laden s involvement until 1997. However, Al Qaeda s purpose at this point was
not to be secretive about attacks. They wanted to draw attention to themselves and their cause.
Even if the CIA really did not know about bin Laden s involvement until 1997, they could have

Sandstone Country Club Incident Essay
On an extremely hot August night at Sandstone Country Club, an incident occurred between a
server and a cook. Roberto, the server, was not receiving great tips and was having a tough night
with his tables, due to the high capacity of people getting dinner and the heat making customers
and other workers impatient. When Dr. Steele and his table sat at one of his tables, he knew he
had to try his hardest to keep him happy because he was a generous tipper but very critical if the
service is bad. Almost everything that could go wrong with Dr. Steele s order went wrong. First,
he ordered a special that had already run out for the night. Dr. Steele was already angry and
ordered lamb, which Roberto knew would take a long time. When Dr. Steele asked for a second
time to check on their food because his group had tickets to a play, Roberto went to Steve, the
cook, and told him to stop making the lamb and make whatever was fastest. Steve was already
getting angry with Roberto for shouting orders at him and blaming the cooks for his rough night,
but told him he could make him a pasta dish. When Roberto relayed this news to Dr. Steele, he was

Compare And Contrast Rosemary s Baby And The Omen
Heit argues that both films deliberately work against the concept of free will as they perpetuated
the prevalent conceit of the sixties that control over one s fate no longer existed, that choice was
an illusion; and that, at any time, for reasons beyond one s comprehension, the devil could
destroy one s life . The protagonist in Rosemary s Baby is left to deal with the knowledge of
being raped by the devil, who has chosen her to be the mother of his child. Meanwhile in The Omen
, Damien does not get to choose or participate in the act of free will as his fate had already been
chosen prior to his birth, having been made the Antichrist by the devil. He is to protect the legacy

Their portrayal of evil is comparative, and the idea of the other being influenced by the thought
that fault is regularly pushed elsewhere is outstandingly common in both films. On the other hand,
their executions are diverse as far as style. As specified in this essay, Polanski concentrates more
on a persuading story that stays within certain components to create a practical setting around
surrealism. The circumstance in Rosemary s Baby is ironic on the grounds that babies are one of
the main things in this world that we consider totally guiltless, and it s difficult to choose whether
Rosemary s infant is pure or not, yet, it has done nothing to strip itself of its honesty. Donner
heavily focuses his attention to detail regarding The Omen and its aesthetics; how the camerawork
is setup to exemplify the mood of death, presented in such ways that it symbolises the power of the
devil. Yet, when looking at the insidiousness that is of the two devilish youngsters, the observers
are acquainted with Donner s depiction of Damien is much more horrific in the sense that the child
actually kills people while under the control of Satan, whereas Polanski leaves the spectator
assuming that Rosemary may have found happiness in the end through the tribulations of

Ageism, Or Prejudice And Discrimination Associated With A...
Ageism, or the prejudice and discrimination associated with a person s age, has become a widely
researched topic among scholars over the last few decades. The deficit model of ageing
characterizes old age as a pathological condition in which individuals undergo physical and
mental decline (Allen, 2011). Growing old has developed into a major social problem in
Western culture, and most individuals accept the stereotypes and stigma related to ageing.
Companies, often phase out older employees by hiring young individuals who are perceived as
being less of a risk, and more of an asset to the company. The exclusion of older individuals is
especially prevalent in industries related to media and professional sports. Media, favors young
individuals because they convey an image of beauty, vigour, and energy. Similarly, professional
athletes are often forced to retire early, due to the recruitment process of professional sports teams.
The objective of this study aims to uncover ageism in the dancecommunity, because dance
combines beauty and athleticism, two traits that are considered to decline with age.
The study discusses age discrimination within the dance community through an exploration of
previous research conducted on the topic, and a qualitative analysis of interviews conducted with
three dancers via email. The dancers who participated in this study discuss their background as
dancers, their age, and their perception of age as a dancer. The participants acknowledge that

The Dust Bowl and Agriculture Essay
One has not experienced the life of living in dirt until he has been in the dust bowl. It was a
decade long dust storm that impacted hundreds of farmers and their farmlands. Hardship was
among one of the influences of the storm, which affected both farm workers and city folks. The
storm also brought the elements of destruction and darkness, which reigned chaos across the
Plains. Together, these issues gave the storm its popular name, black blizzard (Documentary,
2014). Such a name was given due to the storm s visibility as a large black cloud, which made it
look evil and scary. Although the black blizzard is what some people call the dust storm, most will

What led to that event was the drought, bad farming techniques and strong wind gusts (Rosenberg,
2014). First, dry weather reduced the amount of precipitation annually; as a result, crops withered
from no water supply. The drought followed by farmers who continued to abuse their farms led to
topsoil being exposed on the land s surface. Finally, once wind gust came into the Great Plains, the
topsoil was blown from the land s surface into the dry air (Documentary, 2014). From there, the
topsoil accumulated in the air and formed dust clouds, which the winds carried across the nation.
This marks the beginning of the dust bowl. It proved to be hazardous to anything in its path, for
it was similar to foggy weather, but worse. Instead of blinding eye vision, the dust storm caused
an array of issues, such as burying cars, getting into people s houses, conflicting with oxygen
levels in the air and bombarding people s mouths (Rosenberg, 2014). The dust was everywhere to
exact. So much dust pushed farmers to the decision of migrating west or staying and adapting to the
dust storms (Documentary, 2014). Such a decision was not simple, for either way would lead to
hardship and suffering. The dust bowl was no simple storm. Throughout the timeframe of the dust
bowl, leaders were realizing that action must be taken. For example, Hugh Bennett, known as the
father of soil conservation, helped Congress understand that the dust bowl was a serious issue

The Other Family By Himani Bannerji
Individuals should learn to accept themselves for who they are, not what society wants them to
accept. As we continue to evolve, we build up our own characters, and they are typically a mix of
the ethnicity and culture we inherit from our family, various encounters in our life, distinctive
identity and personality we have. Our character and identity is not something that we get easily, it s
an intricate process. The story The Other Familyby Himani Bannerji is based on a motherand a

are living in the dominance of the white society. The school is considered as the hegemony of
Canada and teacher is considered as the mainstream, it is a sort of social institution that a hegemony

when she sees a drawing of a white family by her daughter. It was the misperceptions of the kid
that lead to forget her identity or she was too small to identify it. So to examine about the identity
of the marginalized individual the beginning is to focus on the quality of the education. It is
necessary for every school system to teach equality and inclusions of every group status so that the
marginalized group are not left isolated from the society. Secondly, the fear of the marginalized
parents from losing their kids in the mainstream society shows their lack of confidence in their own

Forrest Gump Film Analysis
Forrest Gump is a movie that was released in the summer of 1994 and is based on a novel by the
same name that was written by Winston Groom almost a decade earlier in 1986. The movie was
directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Paramount Pictures. The film features Tom Hanks as
the main character Forrest Gumpwho is a slow witted character but also has a heart of gold and is
extremely courageous. The supporting cast consists of Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan), Robin Wright
(Forrest s mother) , Sally Field(Jenny) , Mykelti Williamson (Bubba), among others. In this critique
I will be summarizing the plot and analyzing what I liked and disliked about the movie and whether
it stands the test of time.
The movie begins with Forrest Gump waiting at a bus stop and starting a friendly conversation

Experiments on plant hybridization
Dominant and recessive phenotypes. (1) Parental generation. (2) F1 generation. (3) F2 generation.
Gregor Mendel, who is known as the father of modern genetics , was inspired by both his professors
at the PalackГЅ University, Olomouc (Friedrich Franz and Johann Karl Nestler), and his
colleagues at the monastery (such as Franz Diebl) to study variation in plants. In 1854, Napp
authorized Mendel to carry out a study in the monastery s 2 hectares (4.9 acres) experimental
garden,[16] which was originally planted by Napp in 1830.[13] Unlike Nestler, who studied
hereditary traits in sheep, Mendel focused on plants.
Mendel carried out his experiments with the common edible pea in his small garden plot in the
monastery. These experiments were begun in 1856 and completed some eight years later. In 1865,
he described his experiments in two lectures at a regional scientific conference. In the first lecture
he described his observations and experimental results. In the second, which was given one month
later, he explained them.
After initial experiments with pea plants, Mendel settled on studying seven traits that seemed to be
inherited independently of other traits: seed shape, flower color, seed coat tint, pod shape, unripe
pod color, flower location, and plant height. He first focused on seed shape, which was either
angular or round.[17] Between 1856 and 1863 Mendel cultivated and tested some 28,000 plants,
the majority of which were pea plants (Pisum sativum).[18][19][20] This study showed that, when
true breeding different varieties were crossed to each other (e.g., tall plants fertilized by short
plants), one in four pea plants had purebred recessive traits, two out of four were hybrids, and one
out of four were purebred dominant.

The Structure And Function Of Endospores And Capsules Work
Bacterial endospores are highly resistant structures that can withstand many forms of treatments,
including heat and UV (Atrih Foster, 2002), and this characteristic is facilitated by their unique
spore structure. Bacterial capsules play an important role in the virulence of bacteria for their host,
and enable bacterial cells to evade host defense mechanisms and survive hostile environments. The
structure and function of endospores and capsules work specifically to benefit the microbial cell;
furthermore, various physiological changes occur in these structures as a result of environmental
stress (Sahin, Yong, Driks, Mahadevan, 2012). The specific mechanism of these physiological
changes, the types of environmental stresses that cause the changes, and how these correlate with
endospore and capsular structure and function are essential to the understanding of this topic.
Bacterial endospores are dormant, non reproductive, and sometimes disease causing cell structures
that are typically formed in Gram positive bacteriaunder a process called sporulation. Endospores
exhibit high resistance to environmental stresses, and these structures are able to resist conditions
that are unfavourable to most organisms, enabling bacteria to lie dormant for extended periods of
time (hundreds to thousands of years). In addition, endospores are highly durable, as dormant
spores return to an actively growing state a process called germination) when nutrients return to
their environment.

Characterization in Sister Carrie Essay
Characterization in Sister Carrie
The theme of unrequited love and unfulfilled ambitions, against a backdrop of a nation being
transformed by industrialism and capitalism, provides the substance of Theodore Dreiser s Sister
Carrie. During the late 19th Century we encounter three main characters who demonstrate this
underlying motif: Carrie Meeber, Charles H. Drouet, and George W. Hurstwood. Carrie will
fulfill many of her desires for riches and success, but her insatiable appetite will leave her feeling
dissatisfied at the end of the novel and all alone. With respect to the two men who most covet her
affections, Charles Drouet and George Hurstwood we have a study in contrasts. About the only thing
Drouet and Hurstwood have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Eby (2) notes, Carrie is not one to submit to a solemn round of industry while postponing
gratification. Appropriately, Carrie s first lover is a drummer or traveling salesman who goes on
the road to market his company s wares.
Neither Carrie nor Drouet produce anything. Carrie uses her natural beauty and charms to consume
the goods Drouet s money provides, but Drouet only makes his money from moving goods not
producing them. As much as neither Carrie nor Drouet produce anything tangible, they are both
necessary kinds of people in the new industrial nation. Eby (2) confirms this reasoning, Drouet
produces nothing tangible to sell, but the efforts of thousands like him kept goods moving to their
ultimate destination, consumers. Potential buyers like Carrie with easily manipulible desires are
also essential: without desire, the consumer economy stalls.
Drouet is written like a character who might become someone like Willy Loman should he ever
settle down and marry and raise children. This is because he is young and good looking and can
use his charms to woo consumers to purchase his products. Nevertheless, Drouet does not accept
the realities of his situation. Like his clothes and manners, if he does not like reality he tries to
modify it through a variety of means, from running away and denial to the pursuit of superficial
pleasures as a means of escape.

Human Imagination Is A Powerful Force For Good Or Evil...
From our Creator s perspective, human imagination is a powerful force for good or evil purposes.
In His estimation, nothing that a united and ungodly people could imagine would be impossible to
them. This is why He created language barriers among the people at Babel. Before, everyone spoke
one language. However, they became too independently intelligent for their own good and turned
against their Creator; their minds were clouded with pride at the thought of reaching the heavens
with a mighty man made tower (Gen. 11).
Knowing the importance of human imagination, Jesus often presented life changing insight from
the Kingdom of Heaven in the form of similes. This made the Kingdom of Heaven easier to grasp.
The Holy Spirit used something familiar to the listeners, appealing to their imaginations, to reveal
important truths. For example, Matthew 13 states:
The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed...
The Kingdom of Heaven is like unto leaven...
The Kingdom of Heaven like unto a net...
Listen to the psalmist:
The Heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows and proclaims His handiwork.
(2) Day after day pours forth speech, and night after night shows forth knowledge. (3) There is
no speech nor spoken word ; their voice is not heard. (4) Yet their voice goes out through all the

Tutankhamun s Phenomenon Analysis
In addition to this there is also an incredible amount of other primary resources that raise suspicion
and seem to prove this theory. Such as Tutankhamun s rushed tomb. It was extremely small
meaning chunks had to be cut out of the wall to fit his sarcophagus into the chamber. Within his
sarcophagus, (a large stone container that holds Tutankhamun s coffins,) there are also many other
small things we notice that have brought us great suspicion. Much like Tutankhamun s last coffin
which held his mummified body. The coffins face appeared extremely different to any other image
of King Tut we have seen before. After running a test, Dr. Amit Roy Chowdhury found that the
coffins face actually matches that of Queen Nefertiti more than it matches King

Cheapest Football Prediction
Both team to score football prediction has always been one of the cheapest and easiest football
prediction ever, it is so simple that it requires no one sitting you down to give you a lecture over
it, before you know what to do and how to go about it.
Both team to score, has it sounds means the prediction of the probability of the two teams playing
in a football match to get the ball in both courts, that is the chances of both team scoring. No matter
how hard or soft the football match is, the two teams must make sure to have at least one goal each
before the end of the match.
The major point of view or core question you should ask yourself when predicting both team to
score in a football match is how often the two team have played against ... Show more content on

Many times it happens that whenever a good team is playing as away team having an opponent that
has a strong defense strategy, they are often prone to being pressured by the home team and this
might in turn lead to one or two goals, though the good team might end up winning the match but
the main objective of the prediction have been achieved.
Another good idea is looking for the injury level of the players from both teams and how often
they could survive injury on the pitch. A striker or defender who has a long record of injury
survived could easily fall into another scene of being injured in a match lasting for over
90minutes. Therefore, if a star striker or defender is injured the chances of that team scoring or
defending obviously fall and this in one way or other may lead to achieving the aim of both team
scoring.
Summarily, Looking for teams that have weaker attacking or defense skills has always been a
very good strategy of finding matches for both teams to score. When both teams have weaker
attacking or defense skills, it becomes very easy for both teams to penetrate into each other s court
thereby creating series of scoring

A Chair For My Mother Character Analysis
Since before a child has been born they have introduced to the world of reading. Reading goes far
beyond education, it creates a relationship between parent and child, provides fundamentals of
language and speech skills, and helps to communicate society s values. The values that are taught
through books can be positive or negative and be stated implicitly or explicitly. The values that are
taught also transition, as a child grows older. In the book, A Chair for My Mother by Vera B.
Williams, they discuss the values of empathy and kindness. The Butterfly, by Patricia Polaccco,
combines values of altruism, empathy, and kindness, with culture roles and conflict. The Berenstain

While you should always be kind and loyal to your friends, you should always be loyal to
yourself first. This concept is represented in the book The Berenstain Bears and the In Crowd,
when sister is faced between the decision to fit in or be herself and she chooses to be herself
(Berenstain, 1989). There are many ways values that could be placed on this situation, but I
think it came down to her being loyal to herself. Likewise, it shows the value of good friends.
Even though Queenie tried to buy sister s friends with ice cream they still chose to be on her
team (Berenstain, 1989). While that was nice of Queenie s friends I think there were problems
in this book showing the true meaning of friendships is not who is the best at sports, nicest
clothes, or buys their friends gifts, but how they treat your friends. Like many books that may
not be clear in their values, or the values may be skewed it can be used as a lesson or comparison
between right and wrong. The book, Flipped, takes a different approach on friendship. Juli has
always been a true friend and been there for Bryce since the day he moved next door, it isn t
until Bryce makes a mean comment about Julies uncle that she realizes Bryce is not a true friend.
Once Juli decides not to be friends or make an effort, Bryce realizes what a great friend she was to

Agatha Christie Legacy
Although Agatha Christie is no longer alive, her legacy and love for mysteries lives on today.
Agatha Christie was a writer of all genres but her most influential and remembered book was a
thrilling mystery novel titled And Then There Were None. Christie s use of descriptive and
detailed characters are still the typical mystery characters used today. Her book became so famous
that they made a movie based off it, but her writingalso inspired other movies and works of
literature. In the movie Clue made in 1985, forty six years after Christie s book was published,
they used the same stereotypical mystery characters from her mystery novel. A very famous and
well known board game, Clue, was also based off Christie s novel. This novel was... Show more

All seemed to be going well until the first victim was killed at dinner. The guests all began to

takes place in a mansion, just like the one on Indian Island. There are game pieces that resemble
the characters of the novel and usually the same murder weapons, for example; a revolver, a
candlestick, and a noose. The movie Clue is basically an American version of And Then There
Were None. The plot of Clue follows the plot of Christie s novel almost exactly. The same typical
mystery characters are all invited to a dinner where they soon find out that they are all guilty of
murder. Although And Then There Were None was Agatha s most popular and influential book, her
other works were also very inspiring to other authors. Ernest Hemingway was a famous writer

what people may not know is that Agatha

The reforms only deepened the social prejudices by kicking out the Jesuits (depriving education
to the creoles), raising taxes only on the Indians then including the creoles, not allowing
Mexicans to dress like Spanish, and finally taking away from the poor entertainment

lowering the creoles to minority status. Then Charles IV, who became hated by Spain and her

because he would not tax the Spanish. He then decreed the Law of Consolidation of 1804, which

The Generation Of Today s Generation
It is no secret that today s generation is the most technologically advanced in the history of the
human race, and it is a common misconception that ours is the supreme generation because of
this. In contrast, people see the low tech generation that came long before ourss as disconnected
and as less important than the current generation. This could not be farther from the truth. Our
grandparents generation may have endured different schooling and housing, and may have
different mindsets than ours, but this in no way makes them irrelevant or inadequate. These
people possess a wealth of knowledge and wisdom that we of the younger generation must not
only acquire, but put into practice if we ever plan to improve the gilded generation that we have
become. Children of today s generation attend not only kindergarten, but pre school and even
some school prior to pre school. The notion that the younger children begin to learn, the more
they can learn, drives many parents to push their kids to study and be strong academically. This is
a stark contrast to the students of our grandparents generation, who began their academic careers
in the first grade with parents who were more focused on their ability to work. Not only the age at
which a student begins school differs between these generations, so does the age where the
majority of people halt their education. Where an associate s degree today is the minimum for
someone wishing to attain a stable respectably paying career, the

The Inequality Of Social Classes
America is referred to as a molting pot, which means that it has a variety of ethnic cultures and
backgrounds that are unified. Though America may be diverse, there is still a huge factor that
separates people and prevents those from becoming an equal. That discrepancy is the iniquity in
social classes. On September of 2011, Matt Wuerker a political cartoonist for Politico, published
Kitchen Tables that highlighted the injustice in social classes. It is a cartoon that consist of three
different drawings of kitchen tables that Americans sit around: a luxurious upper class, an average
middle class, and a deprived underclass. Wuerker used unequal proportion between each of the
drawings size to represent the iniquity within social classes. He not only gave the upper class
half of the paper, but he also labeled it the top 1% . Wuerker even used colors that symbolized
the meaning of the political cartoon. The upper class has an elegant golden table, with a purple
shadow casting underneath it. The middle class has a green table, with a dirt green background.
The underclass has a rusty bucket that is flipped upside down for a table, with a somber blue
background. Wuerker used wit to display a serious message that is effecting people throughout
America. Matt Wuerker used numerous ways that exemplifies the message he is trying to get
across, and each of those make it an effective political cartoon for the minority of the Americans
that can relate to it. It is natural for humans

Persuasive Speech On Transgenders In The Military
Transgender Military Ban
Discrimination is still a major issue all over the world in today s society. For instance, In the
United States, transgenders have now been banned to serve in the military. These people deserve
the potential and capability to defend their nation. Many close minded people come to the
conclusion that transgenders are weak and it is affecting our military when in reality they are doing
the complete opposite. They deserve to be treated equally and be given the same rights because
they are also a human and deserve the same respect. The overall best decision is to lift the ban
and apologize for taking away their rights or else there will never be equality in our society.
Just a year ago, transgenders were given the right to freely serve in the military, but now Donald
Trump took away their ability to do so. On July 26, Trump tweeted, Our military must be forced on
decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and
disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you. (Trump) He has called these
certain soldiers a burden because the costs are going to medical purposes instead of strengthening
the military. Although this may be true to an extent, it is not a very reasonable reason to take away
their right to serve. A study has shown that the treatments would cost, ... we expect only a 0.13
percent ($8.4 million out of $6.2 billion) increase in health care spending... By contrast, total

Analysis Of Still Alice And The Notebook
Socioeconomic status is a defining factor in nearly every society around the world. Therefore, it is
unsurprising that the issues of class and stratification are manifest in many types of media,
including films. Like many nations, the United States operates under the class system. The
sociologist Dalton Conley defined the class system as, an economically based hierarchical system
characterized by cohesive, oppositional groups and somewhat loose social mobility (Conley 249).
Still Alice and The Notebook depict social stratificationand the struggles between different
socioeconomic classes. Still Alice follows the life of Alice Howland, a linguistics professor at
Columbia University, as she is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer s and fights to retain her
memories and relationships. The film is set in modern day America, in which there is a stigma
associated with dementia, there is a large degree of gender inequality, and some careers are
viewed as prestigious (e.g. doctors and lawyers) while others are condemned by society (e.g.
starving artists). The Notebook shares the story of Noah Calhoun as he tries to revive the
memories of his wife Allie, who suffers from dementia, by reading her the story of their undying
love. While Noah reads to Allie, the movie displays their life in the 1940s. During this time,
America was facing World War II, segregation, and a highly stratified society (U.S. Timeline, 1940
1949). When the movie shows elderly Noah and Allie, it takes place in

What Is The Rhinoceros
If everyone around you, including your family, wore pink clothes to fit in, would you wear
them too? What if I switched the option of pink clothes to turning into a rhinoceros? In the play
Rhinoceros by Eugene Ionesco, the main character, Berenger, is introduced as a man who lacks
interest in his image and responsibilities. You could say that he battles with the expectations of
being an adult. We usually describe an adult to be seen as a person that is more responsible, has a
job and knows their direction in life. Rather than pretending to be the common perception of an
adult, Berenger is upfront about his feelings of resentment towards his job, not being responsible
and finding no purpose in life except for his love for partner Daisy. Unlike his friends, he is true to
his identity, and surpasses the will to turn into a rhinoceros. Contradictory to how his friends claim

He thoughtfully relates Nazis to large beasts that are known for moving in masses and causing
destruction. In the play, the rhinoceroses rapidly increase in size, almost like an epidemic. In
history, following Hindenburg s death in 1934, Hitler s gain in power resulted in storm troopers
threatening political parties against the Nationalist Socialist German Worker s Party. With storm
troopers, political rallies and propaganda by his side, Hitler rapidly increased the Nazi Party
between 1933 and 1937. His troops enforced rules and forced citizens to support him by causing
destruction and threatening to do worse. As the play progresses, the rhinoceroses become superior
and are seen as beautiful creatures. The characters believe in the mentality of a race being more
dominant and acceptable. Similar to Hitler s infatuation with the Aryan race, the rhinoceroses
emphasize how Hitler tried to convince a nation that one race was supreme, and that violence and
genocide would benefit the country s

The Nazi Movement and the Lavender Scare
The Nazi Political Movement in Germany, in the 1930s and 1940s, involved one of the most
virulent anti homosexual campaigns in world history. In the 1950s and 1960s, another less well
known anti homosexual campaign, known as the Lavender Scare, raged in Washington, DC.
Though, the Nazi movement is much more well known, both movements used similar tactics and
involved comparable people.
The Goal Both the Nazi Political Movemen,t in Germany, and the post World War II/Cold War
attacks on homosexuals, were driven by similar goals. The Nazi movement arose after Germany
had lost World War 1 and was being restricted heavily by the Treaty of Versailles. The country faced
major inflation and extremely high unemployment rates. The Nazi party ... Show more content on

Strategies
Most notable when studying the comparison between the Nazi attack of homosexuals and the
Washington DC attack on homosexuals is the similarity of the methods and strategies of
oppression. Both movements accelerated their affront on homosexual citizens over time. At the
beginning of Nazi Germany, it was only homosexuals in power or homosexuals that were accused
of trying to convert people to homosexuality that were punished heavily, then as the movement
progressed, anyone suspected of being homosexual was sent to a concentration camp. Similarly, the
Lavender Scare escalated from only openly homosexual people being suspected to full on police
raids and interrogation. As the two movements got a foothold in their respective countries, they
became increasingly fanatical. Before their respective anti homosexual movements, Washington DC
and Berlin both had thriving gay and lesbian communities with social outlets and general
acceptance, but as time went on, the two societies turned hostile to homosexuals with the prodding
of the leaders of the two movements. Both movements toyed with chemical, surgical, and/or
psychological methods of gay conversion. At the Atascadero State Hospital in the United States,
homosexuals were treated with a drug that simulated the feeling of drowning as a sort of aversion

  • 2. Owls Vs Risers The Merriam Webster defines sleep as the natural periodic suspension of consciousness during which the powers of the body are restored. Although many people don t recognize the value of sleep, it is a very essential part of life. There are many differences between a night owl and an early riser. Research proves that there are many benefits as well as negative results to both sleeping habits. Unfortunately, night owls are more likely to develop diabetes and other health issues like reduced muscles mass. In contrast, early risers are destined to live a long healthy life. It is also proven to help sustain a healthier diet when you wake up early. On the other hand night owls crave more food, and tend to binge eat. The body realizes its ... • 3. Edgar Allen Poe s Annabel Lee Happily N Ever After Annabel Lee was the last complete poem of Edgar Allan Poe, published sometime after his mysterious death in 1849. The poem, much like many of his other works, is about a young woman named Annabel Lee, with whom the speaker is in love with and who tragically dies. Poe had a lot of women die in his life, and though it is unclear who the poem is about, it has been interpreted to be about his wife Virginia, who had died young. He places blame on the angels for Annabel s death, who appear to be his foes instead of the friendly beings they are commonly portrayed as. The speaker proclaims his undying love for Annabel, who is separated from him by several different forces, by using imagery, symbolism, and dreamlike diction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The opening line, It was many and many a year ago (1), mirrors the Once upon a time line many fairytales employ. The phrase In a kingdom by the sea (2) is repeated four times in the poem; the word kingdom conjures an image of a castle, a common backdrop for fairytales. This image is upheld throughout the poem by the repetition of this phrase. Poe s choice of diction places the story in a romantic setting, intensifying the love they have for each other, which is much like the love that princes and princesses have for each other in those stories. Their love reflects the true love that has become a staple of fairytales, and it is so strong that the speaker still harbors these feelings toward her. The fairyland setting serves to reinforce the ardent love these two have, making Annabel s death all the more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Satire is Used in the Portraits, Gin Lane, by William... What is satire? According to oxforddictionaries.com, satire is The use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues. This literary device is portrayed heavily in both the illustrations Gin Lane by William Hogarth and in Untitled by Paul Kuczynski. Gin Lane is basically an illustration by William Hogarth that depicts life in the gin shops and shows the negative effects the drink had on the people of London. It shines a light on the horrible circumstances London was under when gin was introduced to its people. Unititled is an illustration by Paul Kuczynski that represents how our current society... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the top story of one the buildings fortunate to still be standing, is a man who has hung himself from the rafters. Willaim Hogarth used all these startling scenes to grab the attention of the viewer and give them an insight on London at its lowest. Through Gin Lane, Hogarth expressed the ravenous effects gin had on the people of London and how it affected the living environment as well. Untitled by Paul Kuczynski also contains satire, however the author of this portrait uses satire to depict the theme of isolation, instead of misery, poverty, ruin and neglect. This simple, yet thought provoking picture, shows a man looking through a periscope that is shaped like the Facebook symbol, to see through a window above an open door. The door is not barricaded in any way, shape or form, so the man is able to walk outside and see what is going on in the world first hand. Instead, he chooses to stay inside by himself and view the world through Facebook. Through Untitled, Kuczynski conveys the message that social media interaction is overtaking physical interaction. People are more likely to go on social media to find out what is happening than to go out and experience it themselves. Kuczynski s painting greatly showcases that even in its simplicity. Despite the fact that both pieces of art contain various differences, they contain similarities as well. Some of the differences include the message portrayed, themes and the style of drawing. In Hogarth s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Dbq New Imperialism Many times throughout history imperialism has been practiced by various major super powers of the world. For example, Western Europe decided they would extend their power after the Industrial Revolution since they became so wealthy from it. They expanded their empires into Africa, India and China. This is known as the New Imperialism. The desire for expansion was motivated by the hope of economic growth and more power. There are five types of Imperialism and many positive and negative views about them. One of the five types of Imperialism is giving economic and military aid. This can be helpful to the colonies and the mother country. Another is a sphere of influence. This is an area in which an imperialistic country can do business privately... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the colonies become ruled by a mother country this means the natives will most likely become slaves (Document 2). The European countries will benefit from their labor. In Africa missionaries came and the natives didn t like them (Document 4). The Africans thought of them very negatively because they used religion as means to gain trust so they could conquest the natives land. Also, new diseases were introduced to the natives by the Europeans. There were many more negative effects of imperialism in Africa like their loss of dignity and their ability to lead themselves (Document 6). This is because the Europeans taught them that their culture was inferior to theirs. In the political cartoon in Document 7, it shows a cartoonist implying that Europeans work the natives in the colonies very hard all for the money. They don t care about the natives well being. In India, the British took over and many bad effects occurred as result to this. Like, Indian resources going straight to Britain. Also British manufactured good replaced Indian local industry. Farmers were forced to grow cash crops like tea and cotton and Indians went hungry. Also, top jobs were reserved for the British. This left many Indians unemployed. The Indians were treated as inferiors in their own country. Many wars broke out due to racism and which mother country wanted which colony. Like in Africa the Boers War in 1899 was a confrontation between the English and the Dutch when England wanted to take the Cape Colony from the Dutch. Another war in Africa caused by Imperialism is the Zulu war. The Zulu war was caused by British aggression. In China the Opium war was between Great Britain and China. It began in 1839 as a conflict over the opium trade that ended in 1842 with the opening of five Chinese ports to foreign merchants. But the worst effect of Imperialism is when the mother country tries to replace the culture of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So this amount of sugar tells the pancreas to make insulin, which is the fat producing hormone. High insulin levels also have the problem of blocking the Full! signals that travel to a person s brain. From there, the converted sugarenergy gets stored in the liver, and the excess gets stored in fat cells, creating, well, the bad fat no one wants on their body. William Clover, talking about his experience in Lyon, the second largest city in France in his book The French Don t Diet Plan, says, A... search on the official Lyon website revealed that there are no gyms in that city. This might confuse some people, as they think about the thin, and small waistlines of our Parisian counterparts. How can people not work out, but still say so thin? The answer is simple, they get their exercise elsewhere. They are very active people, while Americans are often lazy, or only exercise without taking diet into consideration. Actually, before 1953, it was common knowledge that exercise could cause heart attacks and diminish sex drive. That was until a study in 1953 showed that a fat and a skinny mouse ate the exact same, but had a difference due to the fat mouse s unhealthy habit of not exercising on his wheel. Fast forward to 1980, and in the next two decades, fitness club memberships doubled. The only problem is, obesity rates doubled as well. Billions went to trying to lose weight, and a fitness revolution sparked across the nation. It was easily seen that gyms were expanding, but waistlines expanded as well, and a decade later, two thirds of Americans were overweight or obese. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being in the government sector the research for customer satisfaction was focused on governmental agencies and the aspects associated with those agencies. Most citizens have a preconceived idea about government agencies and I wanted to see if those preconceived ideas were based on real experiences. This was done by researching and finding results either supporting or contradicting this notion. According to Tom Schoop the governmentdoes as well as any big company as far as customer satisfaction. • 10. Summary Of The Last Of The Mohicans Throughout Cooper s novel the reader and Hawkeye are provided with many oppositions and situations based on Culture, Race, and Geography that creates many tensions throughout the novel. The Last of the Mohicans tends to be centered on the Character Hawkeye, a pathfinder and pioneer that links the wilderness and civilization as mediation. The text itself is driven to be a generic paradox and an encompassing narrative, the history with romance and the disagreement between fact and fiction. Cooper uses a blend of facts and fiction in many scenarios. The third year of the Indian and French War The Last of The Mohicans suppresses the boundaries or outlines that divide literature and history in order to create a narrative of American, within which the real man can be understood. Hawkeye, who is so to say a typical American is between the fiction and fact boundary. He links the people and the actual events of the period of time to fit right in to Coopers genre. The Indian Nations, Fort William Henry massacre, Colonel Munroe, and Marquis de Montcalm are all based on fact but then Cooper intertwines significant romance. Coopers chosen genre, historical romance, is based on the movement between the stages of cultural development or hostile civilizations. It allows cultural self awareness and analysis, which allows the narrative expression. In a traditional narrative love is a quest rather than a cultural analysis. The texts movement tracks the hero as he or she enters the unknown ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Degradation such as pollution being introduced to the oceans including untreated sewage, exhaust, trash, chemicals such as pesticides and fertilizers, industrial and powerplant emissions and oil spills make their way into the water and the natural environment for this species and all ocean species that break down and destroy the ecosystem that they use to survive. Habitat destruction is also a factor that is a risk to this species chance of survival is human filling in wetlands and rivers to build for businesses and residential. Development for tourism is destructing nesting habitats for this species as well as all sea turtle species. Camera Lucida Analysis The Indexical Experience in Camera Lucida Roland Barthes analysis of the photograph in Camera Lucida is based on his introspective experience with photography s appearance. The book consists of reflections of emotions felt during his experiences, which essentially defines a phenomenological approach. Phenomenology, according to David Woodruff Smith, is concerned with the things as they appear in our experience...thus the meanings things have in our experience (Smith). For photography, the appearance of the photograph is produced through the physical relationship between the referent photographed and how it is imprinted in film. Therefore, in the experience of a photograph for Barthes, the sign is determined by that physical relationship. Although, Barthes analysis of the photograph includes both indexical and iconic aspects, this paper seeks to argue that the indexical aspect of a photograph is the prominent sign of the photograph because of Barthes phenomenological approach to photography. To be clear, I am analyzing how Barthes perceives photography as indexical from his phenomenological approach and proving how it serves the indexical sign. First, we must consider how Barthes speaks of indexicality when describing the Camera Lucida s purpose, which he says is to find the noeme of photography. He eventually concludes that the noeme is the undeniability of that has been , which refers to the indexical truthfulness of what has physically been in front of the camera. He ... Without preserving their ceremonies, stories and traditional culture the Native Americans would not have made it through the racism, depression, and alcoholism that resulted from being mistreated. Yu Wenzhou Stigma According to Erving Goffman, stigma is an attribute that makes a person different from others in a social category, and reduces the person to a tainted or discounted status (134), but any difference between human beings could be potentially stigmatizing. Anything outside of the ordinary or the standard, that is, anything that creates a sense of uncertainty can in turn drive people to fear differences, fear the future, fear the unknown and therefore stigmatize that which is different and unknown. In fact, his tactical ability was like an all knowing God (Blue, Chapter 338) because he found all the dead angles in the battle and launched a surprise attack against his opponents. Lady Lazarus is a poem about suicide as a rebirth, and was in part inspired by Plath s own life and draws heavily on Plath s lifelong struggle with bipolar depression and suicidal feelings, and uses holocaust imagery to paint a bleak portrait of suicideand hopelessness. In the first stanza the speaker declares that every ten years she dies, drawing an eerie parallel to Plath s own life. The protagonist in Rosemary s Baby is left to deal with the knowledge of being raped by the devil, who has chosen her to be the mother of his child. The circumstance in Rosemary s Baby is ironic on the grounds that babies are one of the main things in this world that we consider totally guiltless, and it s difficult to choose whether Rosemary s infant is pure or not, yet, it has done nothing to strip itself of its honesty. The deficit model of ageing characterizes old age as a pathological condition in which individuals undergo physical and mental decline (Allen, 2011). Growing old has developed into a major social problem in Western culture, and most individuals accept the stereotypes and stigma related to ageing. Companies, often phase out older employees by hiring young individuals who are perceived as being less of a risk, and more of an asset to the company. The exclusion of older individuals is especially prevalent in industries related to media and professional sports. Media, favors young individuals because they convey an image of beauty, vigour, and energy. Similarly, professional athletes are often forced to retire early, due to the recruitment process of professional sports teams. The objective of this study aims to uncover ageism in the dancecommunity, because dance combines beauty and athleticism, two traits that are considered to decline with age. The study discusses age discrimination within the dance community through an exploration of previous research conducted on the topic, and a qualitative analysis of interviews conducted with three dancers via email. The dancers who participated in this study discuss their background as dancers, their age, and their perception of age as a dancer. The participants acknowledge that ... • 32. The Dust Bowl and Agriculture Essay One has not experienced the life of living in dirt until he has been in the dust bowl. It was a decade long dust storm that impacted hundreds of farmers and their farmlands. Hardship was among one of the influences of the storm, which affected both farm workers and city folks. The storm also brought the elements of destruction and darkness, which reigned chaos across the Plains. Together, these issues gave the storm its popular name, black blizzard (Documentary, 2014). Such a name was given due to the storm s visibility as a large black cloud, which made it look evil and scary. Although the black blizzard is what some people call the dust storm, most will refer it as the dust bowl. The dust bowl has a long history for its impact on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What led to that event was the drought, bad farming techniques and strong wind gusts (Rosenberg, 2014). First, dry weather reduced the amount of precipitation annually; as a result, crops withered from no water supply. The drought followed by farmers who continued to abuse their farms led to topsoil being exposed on the land s surface. Finally, once wind gust came into the Great Plains, the topsoil was blown from the land s surface into the dry air (Documentary, 2014). From there, the topsoil accumulated in the air and formed dust clouds, which the winds carried across the nation. This marks the beginning of the dust bowl. It proved to be hazardous to anything in its path, for it was similar to foggy weather, but worse. Instead of blinding eye vision, the dust storm caused an array of issues, such as burying cars, getting into people s houses, conflicting with oxygen levels in the air and bombarding people s mouths (Rosenberg, 2014). The dust was everywhere to exact. So much dust pushed farmers to the decision of migrating west or staying and adapting to the dust storms (Documentary, 2014). Such a decision was not simple, for either way would lead to hardship and suffering. The dust bowl was no simple storm. Throughout the timeframe of the dust bowl, leaders were realizing that action must be taken. For example, Hugh Bennett, known as the father of soil conservation, helped Congress understand that the dust bowl was a serious issue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As we continue to evolve, we build up our own characters, and they are typically a mix of the ethnicity and culture we inherit from our family, various encounters in our life, distinctive identity and personality we have. Our character and identity is not something that we get easily, it s an intricate process. The story The Other Familyby Himani Bannerji is based on a motherand a daughter who immigrates to Canada. They belong to a black family, but after the immigration they are living in the dominance of the white society. The school is considered as the hegemony of Canada and teacher is considered as the mainstream, it is a sort of social institution that a hegemony shape but they does not know the awareness of marginalized groups. The mother feels anxious when she sees a drawing of a white family by her daughter. It was the misperceptions of the kid that lead to forget her identity or she was too small to identify it. So to examine about the identity of the marginalized individual the beginning is to focus on the quality of the education. It is necessary for every school system to teach equality and inclusions of every group status so that the marginalized group are not left isolated from the society. Secondly, the fear of the marginalized parents from losing their kids in the mainstream society shows their lack of confidence in their own cultural pride. Since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this critique I will be summarizing the plot and analyzing what I liked and disliked about the movie and whether it stands the test of time. The movie begins with Forrest Gump waiting at a bus stop and starting a friendly conversation with a stranger sitting next to him. He begins to tell his life story and drops one of the most famous lines in film history, My Momma always said, life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re going to get. . Czech composer LeoЕЎ JanГЎДЌek played the organ at his funeral. After his death, the succeeding abbot burned all papers in Mendel s collection, to mark an end to the disputes over taxation.[15] Experiments on plant hybridization Dominant and recessive phenotypes. (1) Parental generation. (2) F1 generation. (3) F2 generation. Gregor Mendel, who is known as the father of modern genetics , was inspired by both his professors at the PalackГЅ University, Olomouc (Friedrich Franz and Johann Karl Nestler), and his colleagues at the monastery (such as Franz Diebl) to study variation in plants. In 1854, Napp authorized Mendel to carry out a study in the monastery s 2 hectares (4.9 acres) experimental garden,[16] which was originally planted by Napp in 1830.[13] Unlike Nestler, who studied hereditary traits in sheep, Mendel focused on plants. Mendel carried out his experiments with the common edible pea in his small garden plot in the monastery. These experiments were begun in 1856 and completed some eight years later. In 1865, he described his experiments in two lectures at a regional scientific conference. In the first lecture he described his observations and experimental results. In the second, which was given one month later, he explained them. After initial experiments with pea plants, Mendel settled on studying seven traits that seemed to be inherited independently of other traits: seed shape, flower color, seed coat tint, pod shape, unripe pod color, flower location, and plant height. He first focused on seed shape, which was either angular or round.[17] Between 1856 and 1863 Mendel cultivated and tested some 28,000 plants, the majority of which were pea plants (Pisum sativum).[18][19][20] This study showed that, when true breeding different varieties were crossed to each other (e.g., tall plants fertilized by short plants), one in four pea plants had purebred recessive traits, two out of four were hybrids, and one out of four were purebred dominant. ... • 38. The Structure And Function Of Endospores And Capsules Work Bacterial endospores are highly resistant structures that can withstand many forms of treatments, including heat and UV (Atrih Foster, 2002), and this characteristic is facilitated by their unique spore structure. Bacterial capsules play an important role in the virulence of bacteria for their host, and enable bacterial cells to evade host defense mechanisms and survive hostile environments. The structure and function of endospores and capsules work specifically to benefit the microbial cell; furthermore, various physiological changes occur in these structures as a result of environmental stress (Sahin, Yong, Driks, Mahadevan, 2012). The specific mechanism of these physiological changes, the types of environmental stresses that cause the changes, and how these correlate with endospore and capsular structure and function are essential to the understanding of this topic. Bacterial endospores are dormant, non reproductive, and sometimes disease causing cell structures that are typically formed in Gram positive bacteriaunder a process called sporulation. Endospores exhibit high resistance to environmental stresses, and these structures are able to resist conditions that are unfavourable to most organisms, enabling bacteria to lie dormant for extended periods of time (hundreds to thousands of years). In addition, endospores are highly durable, as dormant spores return to an actively growing state a process called germination) when nutrients return to their environment. ... Characterization in Sister Carrie Essay Characterization in Sister Carrie The theme of unrequited love and unfulfilled ambitions, against a backdrop of a nation being transformed by industrialism and capitalism, provides the substance of Theodore Dreiser s Sister Carrie. During the late 19th Century we encounter three main characters who demonstrate this underlying motif: Carrie Meeber, Charles H. Drouet, and George W. Hurstwood. Carrie will fulfill many of her desires for riches and success, but her insatiable appetite will leave her feeling dissatisfied at the end of the novel and all alone. Appropriately, Carrie s first lover is a drummer or traveling salesman who goes on the road to market his company s wares. Neither Carrie nor Drouet produce anything. Carrie uses her natural beauty and charms to consume the goods Drouet s money provides, but Drouet only makes his money from moving goods not producing them. As much as neither Carrie nor Drouet produce anything tangible, they are both necessary kinds of people in the new industrial nation. Eby (2) confirms this reasoning, Drouet produces nothing tangible to sell, but the efforts of thousands like him kept goods moving to their ultimate destination, consumers. Potential buyers like Carrie with easily manipulible desires are also essential: without desire, the consumer economy stalls. Drouet is written like a character who might become someone like Willy Loman should he ever settle down and marry and raise children. This is because he is young and good looking and can use his charms to woo consumers to purchase his products. Nevertheless, Drouet does not accept the realities of his situation. • 40. Human Imagination Is A Powerful Force For Good Or Evil... From our Creator s perspective, human imagination is a powerful force for good or evil purposes. In His estimation, nothing that a united and ungodly people could imagine would be impossible to them. This is why He created language barriers among the people at Babel. Before, everyone spoke one language. However, they became too independently intelligent for their own good and turned against their Creator; their minds were clouded with pride at the thought of reaching the heavens with a mighty man made tower (Gen. 11). Knowing the importance of human imagination, Jesus often presented life changing insight from the Kingdom of Heaven in the form of similes. This made the Kingdom of Heaven easier to grasp. The Holy Spirit used something familiar to the listeners, appealing to their imaginations, to reveal important truths. For example, Matthew 13 states: The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed... The Kingdom of Heaven is like unto leaven... The Kingdom of Heaven like unto a net... Another good idea is looking for the injury level of the players from both teams and how often they could survive injury on the pitch. A striker or defender who has a long record of injury survived could easily fall into another scene of being injured in a match lasting for over 90minutes. On September of 2011, Matt Wuerker a political cartoonist for Politico, published Kitchen Tables that highlighted the injustice in social classes. It is a cartoon that consist of three different drawings of kitchen tables that Americans sit around: a luxurious upper class, an average middle class, and a deprived underclass. Therefore, it is unsurprising that the issues of class and stratification are manifest in many types of media, including films. Like many nations, the United States operates under the class system. The sociologist Dalton Conley defined the class system as, an economically based hierarchical system characterized by cohesive, oppositional groups and somewhat loose social mobility (Conley 249). Still Alice and The Notebook depict social stratificationand the struggles between different socioeconomic classes. Still Alice follows the life of Alice Howland, a linguistics professor at Columbia University, as she is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer s and fights to retain her memories and relationships. The film is set in modern day America, in which there is a stigma associated with dementia, there is a large degree of gender inequality, and some careers are viewed as prestigious (e.g. doctors and lawyers) while others are condemned by society (e.g. starving artists). The Notebook shares the story of Noah Calhoun as he tries to revive the memories of his wife Allie, who suffers from dementia, by reading her the story of their undying love. While Noah reads to Allie, the movie displays their life in the 1940s. During this time, America was facing World War II, segregation, and a highly stratified society (U.S. Timeline, 1940 1949). You could say that he battles with the expectations of being an adult. We usually describe an adult to be seen as a person that is more responsible, has a job and knows their direction in life. Rather than pretending to be the common perception of an adult, Berenger is upfront about his feelings of resentment towards his job, not being responsible and finding no purpose in life except for his love for partner Daisy. Unlike his friends, he is true to his identity, and surpasses the will to turn into a rhinoceros. Contradictory to how his friends claim they were responsible, smart... In the play, the rhinoceroses rapidly increase in size, almost like an epidemic. In history, following Hindenburg s death in 1934, Hitler s gain in power resulted in storm troopers threatening political parties against the Nationalist Socialist German Worker s Party. • 54. The Nazi Movement and the Lavender Scare The Nazi Political Movement in Germany, in the 1930s and 1940s, involved one of the most virulent anti homosexual campaigns in world history. At the beginning of Nazi Germany, it was only homosexuals in power or homosexuals that were accused of trying to convert people to homosexuality that were punished heavily, then as the movement progressed, anyone suspected of being homosexual was sent to a concentration camp. Similarly, the Lavender Scare escalated from only openly homosexual people being suspected to full on police raids and interrogation. As the two movements got a foothold in their respective countries, they became increasingly fanatical. Both movements toyed with chemical, surgical, and/or psychological methods of gay conversion. At the Atascadero State Hospital in the United States, homosexuals were treated with a drug that simulated the feeling of drowning as a sort of aversion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
