The Correlation Between Disney Movies and Poor Body Image...
Disney was named the world s second top media company in the US for the year 2004. They
have produced over 44 classics and are one of the most recognized names in animated film
(Peterson). We expose young girls to these animated films at a very young age, yet doing so does
not seem to be good for these children. Disney s movies are littered with a virtually unattainable
image of what a womanshould look like and feeding such images to girls at a young age is wrong
and causes low self esteem and poor body image.
The term body image refers to a person s sense of satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the physical
appearance of his or her body ( Body Image ). Girls are susceptible to influences telling them what
they should look like even at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Mulan does appear, she is typically in the kimono like hanfu, which makes her miserable in
the movie, rather than her liberated warrior s gear. Unfortunately the warrior s gear is not as
pleasing to the eye. Instead it is bulky and manly, neither of which a desired trait for a princess
(Hurley).
More often than not, princesses are portrayed as feminine and dainty, interested only in clothes,
jewellery, and seducing the handsome prince. These are not ideal traits to be teaching children,
yet we expose them to media reinforcing these traits with hardly a second thought. The need to
fit the dainty feminine role of women portrayed by these princesses is becoming very evident in
the adolescents of today. There is evidence that young women who hold the most conventionally
feminine beliefs who avoid conflict and think they should be constantly nice and pretty are
more likely to be depressed than others. In a survey released last October by Girls Inc., school
age girls overwhelmingly reported a paralyzing pressure to be perfect : not only to get straight A

Red Cross Leadership Development Camp Research Paper
The most interesting part about The Red Cross Leadership Development Camp is that it gives
me a chance to enhance my leadership skills, meet new people, and present my new ideas to a
group of people that share my interests. Also, it is a great opportunity for the high schoolers to
gain communication skills and confidence. I love to meet new people and seeing them respond
to my ideas is a real thrill, and making that connection is inspiring and exciting to me. I believe
this would be a good opportunity for me to interact with other teenagers who have a same
common goals as me. I want to learn new things, meet new people, working with people and
teaching people new things as I learn hope to gain from LDC camp. It would be a great opportunity

Lab Report On Plant Cell Walls
Introduction:
Plant cell walls are composed of: Pectin matrices, cellulose microfibrils and branches of
hemicellulose. Cell walls give plant cells their rigid oblong shape (in morphogenesis) and its
strength aids the plant cell s maintenance of osmotic stability preventing lysis and crenation when
exposed to hypertonic or hypotonic environments respectively. The apoplast pathway in the cell
wall is also completely permeable to ions and small particles while preventing the entry of toxic
macromolecules.
Second to cell walls, plant cell membranes contain a variety of different lipids (made of fatty
acids), proteins and carbohydrates. The two molecule thick layered structure of membranes is made
of a bilayer of amphipathic phospholipids ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tonoplast is similar the external plasma membrane in that there are also intrinsic
transmembrane proteins which govern the movement of a variety of ions and the one way entry of

In fig.1, the absorbance values of the resultant beetroot solutions show a clear increase with
increasing temperature, this is gradual from 23В°C to 60В°C, but this steeply increases until
70В°C which was the last data point. Extrapolation may show an exponential increase, until all the
red pigment has been liberated from all of the beetroot cells, and the trend line would thus plateau
horizontally.
In fig.2, the absorbance readings of H2O and chloroform are relatively very small almost
negligible, IMS has the second highest reading and Rapid freezing did the most damage to the
beetroot cells membranes with a very high absorbance reading. This was so high that it couldn t be
detected by the monochromatic light from the spectrophotometer dilutions were made as a result
and the absorbance was multiplied to its true value.
Discussion:
The monochromatic light of the spectrophotometer was set to a value of 540nm (the green region
of the visual spectrum). This is essential because the betacyanin pigments present in the vacuoles of
beetroot cells are what give the vegetable its distinctive red colour (light transmitted), so the
compromise green wavelength is absorbed in the greatest

Religion In Kingdom Of Heaven

Kingdom of Heaven: A Post Colonial Comparison of the Middle East in the 12th and 21st Century
The film Kingdom of Heaven is a dramatized re enactment of the 12th century Crusades in
Jerusalem and aired in theatres worldwide in 2005. In the film, the Saracens (Muslims) attempt to
reclaim Jerusalem from the Christians but were met with the small and, ultimately, futile resistance
organized by the main protagonist Balian of Ibelin. While considerable efforts have been made to
accurately portray historical events, many elements of the film especially pertaining to the
interaction between Christians and Saracens seem to have been downplayed due to the fear of
backlash following the radical Islam ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Saladin s character in the film was open to negotiations for terms of peace, exemplified by the
scene where the leper king Baldwin IV rode out to meet him after the incident in Kerak.
However, historical evidence points toward the urgency to defend Egypt as the decisive factor
behind the withdrawal at Kerak as opposed to a conviction towards peaceful resolutions. After the
success of the siege of Jerusalem, Saladin was then seen negotiating the terms of surrender with
Balian with palpable restraint even though Balian threatened to burn Jerusalem to the ground ;
which would have prevented from him an honourable victory. Additionally, Saladin was also
portrayed as particularly merciful as he promised Balian the safe passage of all Christians out of
Jerusalem, when in reality; he not only demanded a ransom for each Christian s freedom but also
forced thousands of them into slavery. The film, therefore, heavily distorted the portrayal of Saladin
as a man almost without religious motivations and particular attention has been placed to emphasis
this trait. In one scene, Saladin was seen picking up a fallen ornamental cross on the ground and
replacing it on its stand; which reinforces the idea in the audience that Saladin s favours personal
faith

America s Expansion To The Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail is America s first Scenic Trail. It stretches from Katahdin Mountain in Maine
to Springer Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia. This stretch of the trail
includes some of the most difficult sections. Some trails are suitable for day hikes or short
backpacking hikes.
There are 22 different hiking trails within the state of Maine. The first six are considered to be in
eastern Maine and provide several days worth of hiking adventure and natural wonders.
The trail is usually hiked south to north from Georgia to Maine between May and September to
avoid the brunt of the bad weather. There is also an unofficial expansion to the Appalachian Trail,
which starts from Canada, through Quebec and down into Maine.

The Marfan Syndrome
Marfan syndrome is a genetic illness with significant morbidity and death (1). Prevalence
appears to be similar across the world, regardless of gender, and the estimate in the European
countries is 1 in 10,000 (2). The average expectancy used to be 32 years, but improved surgery
increase life expectancy to approach that of the entire population (3). The level to which
individuals are affected differs and those with the syndrome tend to be tall, thin and with long legs,
arms, fingers as well as toes (4). It is important to discuss the symptoms, pathogenesis, diagnosis,
and management of the syndrome. Apart from this, Marfan syndrome has several symptoms.
However, the most prominent indicators affect the skeletal, cardiac, and optical systems. The entire
fibrous connective can also be affected (4). Other signs include extreme nearsightedness, an
abnormally curved spine, flat feet, excessively limbs, and extraordinary and overcrowded teeth.
The central cause of the condition is a deficiency in the gene that enables the human body to
produce the fibrillin protein, which provides the connective tissue the strength and power to
support the body organ (4). Along with this, an individual inherits the abnormal from parents who

In the trenches of ww1 it was hard for all soldiers, so during Christmas day of 1914 along the
western front the two sides joined in no mans land to celebrate Christmas. Both sides of the war
had yet been in a full out battle with each other and that gave them a better mind set to have peace
but even though Paul from all quiet on the western front had been in multiple battles, with the
German army, he still had compassion and still saw the good in life. During the war Paul was
determined to help his friends and work with his buddys even if it meant doing some odd stuff to

Example Of Assimilation In America
Assimilation in America
In American society, there are multiple cultures and races exist. Since immigrants bring the various
cultures to America, Americans face a highly controversial problem. Some of the Americans
believe all of the ethnic groups assimilate into a common culture can help Americans distinctly
identify themselves. Others argue that ethnic groups should not abandon their cultural heritages
background. As a result, merging different cultures into one new culturewill cause America lose its
cultural diversity which is one significant charm of this country. On the contrary, if every ethnic
group only focuses on building their own community and resists communicate with others, it will
aggravate the separation of a nation. Although people often argue about these two ways which one
is more appropriate to Americans, I think Richard Rodriguez s idea is more realistic in nowadays
American society. Rodriguez resists the idea of the melting pot, and believes that assimilation is
inevitable and reciprocal. In the essay Does America Still Exist?, Rodriguez explains his thought to
us through his experiences.
First, Rodriguez thinks the old metaphor of a melting pot is no longer accepted by Americans. He
indicates that As much as the country is joined in a common culture, however, Americans are
reluctant to celebrate the process of assimilation. We pledge allegiance to diversity. (Paragraph 7)

Some things are hard for people to understand. Like how anyone could be proud of nasty, yellow
calluses that make your hands feel like leather or how anyone could hate a machine that s

component of their identity. I believe the hardest thing for people to understand about rowingis why
anyone would put themselves through intense pain to win a race. Sometimes it s even hard for
me to remember why I started rowing in the first place. Then I realize that I don t know what I d
do if I didn t row. I don t know where I would be without my teammates, coaches, and parents who

Bilbo s Archetypes In The Hobbit
One little hobbit s life shall change forever with adventure lurking by for tea. Bilbo displays three
archetypes throughout his adventure. One of them is the call to adventure , where s the Tookish
side of him awakens, and Gandalf presents Bilbo with an adventure, though without giving him an
alternative. A second one is the magic item , for instance the magic ring. And ultimately, the
supernatural aid , patently Gandalf for he is a wizard. Bilbo Bagginsof Bag End, Under Hill has
invariably led a quiet and boring life. Well, at least he did until thirteen dwarves came rapping at
his door. Bilbo displays the archetype the magic item when he finds the magic ring in the goblin
tunnels. Then off he went from door to door, until his following had grown to twelve none of them
any to nimble, what with the dark, and what with their long imprisonment { Tolkien, The Hobbit
174}. This displays Bilbo rescuing his comrades from the Elvenking s oubliettes with the
backing of the ring. Dazzlingly marvelous! Perfect! Flawless! Staggering! exclaimed Bilbo
aloud, but what he thought inside was: Old fool! Why there is a large patch in the hollow of his

Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains,
and hear the pine trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a

Bilbo to adventure. Yes, you have! Twice now. My pardon. I give it you. In fact I will go so far as
to send you on this adventure. Very amusing for me, very good for you and profitable too, very
likely, if you ever get over it {Tolkien, The Hobbit 19}. This demonstrates Gandalf being the call to
adventure by insisting Bilbo go on his

The Oedipal Relationship between Hamlet and Gertrude Essay
Throughout William Shakespeare s Hamlet, Shakespeare portrays Hamlet with the same types of
behaviors and frustrations in humans that Sigmund Freud saw at a much later date. When the
relationship between Hamlet and his mother is analyzed Freud s oedipal complex theory comes
to mind. The oedipal complex is a theory created by Freud that states that The child takes both of
its parents, and more particularly one of them, as the object of its erotic wishes. (51) Because of
this desire to be with the parent of the opposite sex, a rivalry is formed with the parent of the same
sex. In the play, Hamletshows great hostility toward his uncle Claudius because his mother s

157 9) He is disgusted by his mother s affection toward Claudius because he believes it is
incestuous. It can also be inferred the Hamlet is more concerned with the marriage of his mother
than the death of his father because Hamlet does not mention or express any concern over how his
father died until he sees the ghost. This fits in with the oedipal complex because it can be said that
unconsciously Hamlet believes that because his father is dead all his competition is gone and his
mother should be his. Claudius marring his mother does not fit in with what Hamlet wants and
takes his object of desire away from him.
Within Act three scene four the full extent of Hamlet s feelings for his mother are expressed which
make the oedipal complex behaviors in the relationship apparent due to the fact Hamlet makes
numerous sexually allusions. In this scene Hamlet confronts his mother about her relationship with
Claudius and her involvement in the murder of King Hamlet. Here Hamlet is actually more
concerned with his mother s sexual relationship than anything else including avenging his father.
Throughout most of the scene, Hamlet
concentrates on his mother s sexual relationship with Claudius by making many sexual allusions
and berating his mother with them. He states that she seeks out incestuous pleasure of his bed. (3.4

Female Genital Mutilation ( Fgm )
INTRODUCTION
Female genital cutting (also known as female genital mutilation) is one of the most prevalent
violations of the human rights of women in the world. As of 2010, 100 to 140 million female
bodied people were living with mutilated genitalia. According to the United Nations, Female genital
mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for
non medical reasons. Female genital cutting is a practice that is generally directed at female bodied
people under the age of 18. International institutions such as the United Nations call it a violation of
the rights of the child... [a violation of] the rights to health, security and physical integrity of the
person, the right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and the right to
life when the procedure results in death.
It is a practice that has been proven to not be effectively combatted by international legislation,
national legislation, human rights advocacy, or educational programs. However, human beings
operate based on cultural and social norms. Female genital cutting is a practice that is enforced by
social and cultural norms in the places where it is common. Thus, one of the most effective methods
of combatting FGC involves community based organizations, which must work together to create
norm based social change in order to alter the cultural beliefs that allow FGC to endure and spread,
thereby eliminating or curbing the practice.

Why Veterinary Medicine Is A Doctor But For Animals

Topic #1: What is veterinary medicine?

Medicine is a doctor but for animals. Veterinary medicineinvolves medical, diagnostic, surgical,
dental, and therapeutic principles to all types of animals. If a client got bit by an infected animal, a
human doctor might just send them to the vet for a better understanding and this might just be
another way veterinarians help humans as well. Most people who go into this field starts learning
about what type of animals they want to handle by learning all about them in high school... even if

The Moral Disagreement on Capital Punishment (Death Penalty)
Using Democratic Deliberation to Resolve the Moral Disagreement on Capital Punishment (Death
Penalty)
Common American experience seems to suggest that a solution to every dilemma can be found
through enough lobbying, legislating, media blitzing or politicking. We often believe that the
person arguing most eloquently, reasonably or forcefully will win every dispute, yet there are times
when this optimism fails. Despite great efforts to show the strength of a position, there are
arguments that we cannot untangle simply by proving our right and another s wrong. Some moral
questions permit such different outlooks that holders of completely opposing views can both be
morally sound. Rather than trying to reason away one side we can only ... Show more content on

Participants in such discussion can arrive at an understanding of their differing views and gain
respect for the variation that exists, the first steps towards solving the moral questions that seem
unsolvable.
To lead towards any justifiable outcome, deliberation must abide by certain guidelines of respect,
open mindedness and accommodation. At the heart of the debate must be a genuine
acknowledgement that opponents views, though disagreeing with our own, are just as morally
sound. In granting this we must also approach the discussion with a willingness to change our
opinions if discussion reveals a stronger moral position. Deliberation relies on rational participants
who do not blindly cling to prior beliefs despite evidence favoring other ones. If, however,
deliberators cannot justify leaving their positions after fair consideration, they must make
concessions to the opposing side without sacrificing their own views. By eliminating points of
contention opponents can reach towards an economy of moral disagreement. Though it will never
be possible to satisfy every member of this diverse nation, appeals to methods of deliberation offer
moral justification for our decisions. A crusader for censorship, for example, will always be upset
if defeated, but he may be more satisfied knowing the rationale for his defeat than otherwise.

category seen in the film. The film focuses on the small funny touches, which the audience will

clicks a button to specify whether the images are the same or different.
RESULTS
The results of this experiment are the mean reaction times that it took the participant to decide
whether the example they where presented with was the same or different object. The means of
both of the sets of data clearly shows that as the angle of the rotation of the object increases the
reaction time of the participant increases. When these means are plotted on a graph they clearly
show a linear increase in reaction time as the angle of rotation increases. This continues until the
object has been rotated 180 degrees. The reaction time decreases linearly as the object is rotated
more and more. Overall the reaction time for the pairs that are of different objects (where one
cannot be made into the other through a rotation are higher) however they follow the same pattern
as the pairs that are of the same objects.

The Brief Etymology of the Word Humor
Imagine for a moment the vast history of the languages of the world. The base sounds that over
time formed into words, words that eventually evolved into language, language that branched and
developed into different languages. Modern languages adopted words from ancient languages, and
adapted the definitions to meet the requisites of the civilizations for which they served. This
development in languageis due to the fundamental need for the human race to communicate
effectively with one another. Therefore, it is not surprising that many words have dual meanings.
For instance the word, humor, has expanded from its original definition to encompass the
interpretation available in modern English. The following is a brief view of the complex etymology
of the word humor.Presently, people use the word, humor, to describe an event or person that one
finds comical. According to The American Heritage Dictionary, one definition is, The quality that
makes something laughable or amusing. (The American Heritage Dictionary). However, in ancient
times the word humor had a completely different meaning. Amazingly, the word, humor, traces its
origins back to the ancient Romans, whose spoken and written language was Latin in
approximately 900 AD. According to Dictionary.com, the word humor developed from the Latin
word umor, which means moisture. It was during the 13th century in old Northern French language
that the word humor was developed. The Online Etymology Dictionary defines humor

The Sons Of August By Nicholas Klein
The Sons of August By: Nicholas Klein During the time period leading up to ww1, Germany
was trying to become the ultimate power in Europe. Germany was seeking an alliance with
England, but England was more focused on an alliance with France. With the death of King

group was the new king of England, King George the V. Next to him is William the II of
Germany. He is related to the British royal family because his mother had been an English princess.

Although, conflicts such as the American Civil war and the Revolutionary war do interest me,
my main interest lies within conflicts in the 20th century. I have watched many documentaries
featuring first hand accounts of military personnel and their experience in combat. In school and
out of school, the one war that comes up the most is WW2. I know about how Germany was the
main problem in ww2 and also the persecution of Jews, gypsies, gays, and many other people.
But I didn t realize until after starting this project, that I had never learned a lot about ww1. This
book not only taught me of some factors leading up to the war, but it also gave me an interest of
ww1. One thing I learned was that William the II of Germany did not like Edward the VII of
England because he had denied any alliances or treaties between Negland and Germany. Instead,
Edward formed an alliance with France. I learned this on page two when William says that he is
happy that Edward it dead. Not everything about this book was good in my opinion. Most books
that I read are fictional/fantasy books. Therefore, this book wasn t necessarily a walk in the park
for me. I had a very difficult time following the story and what was actually happening. This was
due to the fact that the book was very randomly organized and didn t really follow the
chronological order of events in history. For example, in the beginning it was talking about King

Why I Got Into The Field Of Public Administration Essay
The reasons that I got into the field of public administration was the community needs and its
lifeblood. Plus, I have this desire to constant improve the overall policies for the ideal of good
government. Ever since I got into the graduate school for a Master of Public Administration at
the San Diego State University. I came from a small town in the east and moved to one of major
cities in the United States. Everything and everyone from there opened my eyes wide opened to
the world and all of its opportunities. I felt and recognized that the opportunity for this
fellowship will help me with my career development into full time with the local government.
Let me share my career goal with you, which is to be a City Manager at one day. Or even to be
higher and daring than my current goal. I wanted to make a difference like every public servant
wants. Despite of that comment I felt that I know what the hardship is like and I am ready to
face more of it. As deaf person, which already experienced struggles and constant breaking
barriers. While breaking those barriers I found out two key thinking are proactive and strive.
Both of them have enhanced my thinking. Just same necessity for the local government to be a
good government by being proactive and strive opposed to reactive or survival. I believe that I
am capable candidate with great potential to be one of LGMFs. Especially with plenty of room for
me to grow within this fellowship. I believe I am the right candidate to be

Literary Elements Used In The Curse Of The Poisoned...
Authors are often sneaky about their writing. Writers have a story to tell, but exactly how they tell
it depends upon the actual contents of the tale. If the narrative is written outright, it can be tedious
to read. Both the writer and the readers tire quickly if the story gives all of the information, and
leaves nothing to be figured out by the reader. To avoid boredom, many writers will change up the
format of the story and include multiple literary elements to make it more interesting. This applies
to Paul Haven s story, The Curseof the Poisoned Pretzel. If he had simply stated that Skidmore
had killed Manchester, then the there would be no suspense for the reader. The lack of
information makes the story far more intriguing. To accomplish his task, Haven uses common
literary elements to his benefit. Thus, in The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel by Paul Haven, the
reader believes Skidmore to be the killer of Manchester because of his characterization, the curse
of the pretzel, and the foreshadowing used in the excerpt. To begin, The author characterizes
Skidmore in such a way that the reader automatically assumes him to be guilty. Skidmore is
described to be evil. In The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel, it states, He gave everyone the creeps,
suggesting that other characters were wary of him and that Skidmore killed Manchester without it
being directly stated by the author (Haven). This makes readers suspicious, and causes them to
think that Skidmore is really

The knee joint consists of four ligaments, two intra capsular which are the ACL and the PCL and
two extra capsular ligaments including the MCL and LCL. The ACL is an extremely strong
stabiliser which prevents anterior displacement of the knee. The ACL is a ligament and therefore
connects one bone to another, the femur with the tibia. The ACLs origin is from the anterior
intercondylar eminence of the tibia (home,2017) and the fibres pass upwards, backward and
laterally inserting into the lateral condyle of the femur.
Characteristics of ACL Injuries
ACL injuries used to be seen as career ending injuries 50 years ago, however, throughout the years

the knee joint. Resulting in no blood clot formation within the joint as a consequence scar tissue

between 9 to 12 months for recovery. With an ACL injury, other injuries often follow, namely MCL

Outcasts in society are in need of love and compassion. In the book Tattoos on The Heart by
Gregory Boyle, Father Greg gives gang members an opportunity to better themselves by providing
them with jobs. Attention makes gang members realize they are worthy.
Giving gang members attention makes them apprehend that they are worthy. Yolanda, an active
woman from the parish, expressed to Speedy, Sabes que, mijo, she says, Te digo una cosa. If
anything happened to you, it would break my heart in two ... You know, he says, tapping his heart
with his finger, That sh*t made me feel good (Boyle 58). Speedy was hanging out with a girl from
a rival gang, which he knew was extremely dangerous, but he didn t care whether he lived or died.
Speedy understood that he was a worthy person when Yolanda expressed to him that there is
people who care for him and his wellbeing.
Gang members recognize they are worthy when they receive attention. Father Greg explains the
reaction Lula, a young ex gang member, had when he states, I roll down my window and catch his
attention Hey, Lula. You would have thought I had electrocuted him. His whole body spasmed
with delight to be known, to be called, to hear his name uttered out loud (Boyle 47). Father Greg

Foretold Narrative Style
Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a novel, that is written in a non
linear writing style. Non linear writing style is the exact opposite of chronological order. The way
the story is written affects our perception of the protagonists , Santiago s death. This novel is filled
with superstitions, religion and fate, all of these three key components seemed to lead to Santiago s
death as the noveland the story of his death developed. In order to fully understand what
happened to Santiago the day that he died, Garcia Marquez used diction, symbolism, and tone.
Garcia Marquez was trying to express the idea that superstition, fate, and religion are huge
aspects of a person s life and you can t escape the path that has already been mapped out for you.
He conveys these thoughts throughout the novel using Santiago Nasar s death as something that
seemed almost inescapable as you read the novel. Garcia Marquez used the idea of the
supernatural in his novel. He did this by using symbolism. When Garcia Marquez was young he
had to go live with his grandparents because it was common at the time in Colombian culture to
leave your children wherever one could manage because of financial situations. Garcia Marquez
was told stories of his grandparents adventures of when they were young. This is where Garcia
Marquez had developed his style of writing as magical realism. A lot of the superstitions in the
book he got from living with his grandparents. His grandparents,

Should School Start Later Persuasive Essay
What time do you get up to get ready for school? Do you wake up at the last minute and have to
rush? Some people may say that school starts too early, and in all reality it does. Students minds
are never fully awake at eight a.m.. They may not give themselves enough time to eat breakfast.
May not be getting enough sleep. Maybe they don t have a ride. Are the teachers even ready? If
school started an hour later would there be as many tardies? Pushing the starttime back an hour
may be beneficial for students and teachers. Some kids are not able to drive themselves to
school. Whether it be they are out of gas, no car, or not even eligible to drive. If they were to
wake up late, and miss the bus, or other transportation, it may take them a while to get to school.
Whether they have to walk or whether they have to find someone else to take them. Either way
they will most likely be late, and miss class time. If school were pushed back an hour it would
give them enough time to make it to class on time. No excuses. You may think that if they do it
with this time, that they will do it if changed too. In all reality they can wake up at the same time
and not be rushed to get to school. Also have time to eat breakfast, and maybe find another ride.
Say that they were to wake up at seven fifty. That would give them enough time to shower if
needed, eat, play on their phone, and get to school. Allowing them to be on time to their first hour

elements of languages will be compared in this essay. That being phonology. Phonology is
defined as being the study of the way speech sounds form patterns .(Victoria Fromkin 2009). As
(Hammond 1999) describes, every spoken language has a unique system whereby sounds are
organised. This unique pattern of pattern can be termed phonology and varies widely in
geographical and social differences. English is the most widely spoken language in the world with

e.g. Reqing. [Й»пЃ–tЙ•iпЃЋпЃќ Tone is one of the most important aspects of Mandarin; they can
change the meaning of a word just by changing the pitch of how we say the syllable. There are
for tones in mandarin (5 if we include the neutral tone) which are high, rising, falling rising and
falling. The diagram below shows the pitch of each tone. An example of how tones can change a
meaning can be used with the word ma. Ma with a high tone means mother, with a rising tone it
means hemp, with a falling rising tone means horse and lastly a falling tone means to scold. We
can also say ma with a neutral tone indicates that a yes/no question are being asked(Taochung
Yao 1997). So as shown, it is very important when speaking Mandarin that the tones are correct as
if they are wrong they can change the entire meaning of a word. So based on the analysis of both
English and Mandarin phonology, we can see that they vary greatly. The most logical reason for
Chinese having tones is because only about up to 400 different syllables can be made whereas in
English there are approximately 12000.(Gao 2002) Also shown in English is the importance of
stress and pitch, which lack the same importance in Mandarin. While stress in English can change a
noun to a verb or even change the complete meaning of the word, stress in mandarin is only used

Narrative Essay About Duck Camp
Initially, when I first visited Tarleton State University, all I saw was men wearing cowboy hats,
jeans, and boots, but as I walked around campus more with my dad, I started to see more
diversity within the students on campus. As my dad and I walked around campus looking like we
don t belong, a girl pointed us in the right direction to find Heritage. We spoke to a residential
leader who kindly showed us around the dorm and told us how amazing the campusis. From that
second forward, I had started to fall in lovewith Tarleton. Orientation soon approached and
introduced me to Duck Camp. When I originally heard what Duck camp was about, teaching the
heritage and traditions of Tarleton, I was exhilarated to leave that second to learn, socialize, and
start my transition from high school to college. Before Duck Camp arrived, one of my TTMs,
Wacey Horton, sent me a text saying he will be my daddy duck for Duck Camp one. To be
completely honest, I was a little weirded out when I saw him say daddy duck but it made me
laugh and all the more excited for Duck Camp. Wacey made my Duck Camp experience
something I will never forget for the rest of my life; he made it fun, introduced all of us to new
people, established friendships between all of us, and has brought me entirely out of my shell I
had enclosed myself in during high school. Wacey taught me how to have more confidence, to

have gained even more skills that are going to be useful when I enter the real world working in
global business. The part of the artifacts I enjoyed working on the most was writing imaginative
letters between the famous Brazilian educator Paulo Freire and myself. We held a deep
discussion about the banking and problem posing methods of education. Specifically, I penned a
letter from Freire to me explaining why I am in an admissions bubble. I followed that up with a
second letter where I appealed that decision to Freire using philosophical arguments aligned with
his rationale. In order to truly engage with this assignment, I had to become engrossed in each of
our characters and creatively formulate the dialogue between us. Writing from Freire s point of
view, I had to think deeply about the motives underlying his problem posing model and why it was
important to him. In my response, I then had to relate those theories to the specific context of my
own education. Despite the challenging nature of this assignment, it was exciting to write
something so different than what I had done before. I am proud

The Pre-Confederation Period and the Confederation Period
Canada is a constitutional monarchy and a liberal democracy. As a member of G 8 it is one of the
most industrialized nations in the world and holds a very important position in reference to the
world economy.
Territorially Canada was not always the same. It went through changes to evolve in the form it is
today. The Canada of today was earlier in the form of various British colonies. The region was not
united and they joined hand with the passage of time. The history of Canada can be divided
roughly into two factions: the pre confederation period and the confederation period.
The pre confederation period is the period prior to the unification of Canada. Before the advent
of Europeans, Canada had no single unified government or administration. The only kind of
politics was the treaties signed among the regions or tribes. At the same time, the local leaders
or head of the tribes were the only form of government known to the people. Canada turned into
a series of colonies with the arrival of the Europeans. Various regions were colonized by different
nations of Europe like Britain, France and even Spain. All the colonies which form Canada were
once a part of New France. The British acquired those colonies by the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713 and
by the Treaty of Paris in 1763.
The Canada, as we know today, took its shape in 1867 with the signing of the British North America
Act. This Act created a single unified administration for the whole region. The regional interests

Charactersitics of a Museum, Questions and Answers
1.What are, in your opinion, the characteristics of the museum idea?
As I remember from my travelling experience, a museum exists in each city, even the smallest one
and sometimes even in villages. Visiting a museum at least once a year is a compulsory part of any
school programme in my country, Russia. However, what is a museum? What are reasons for its
existing? Who and how chooses display units for exhibitions from the huge variety of items in the
world?
All these questions can be answered if to determine the characteristics of the museum idea.
Museums are public instituitons. Their number has increased and their role has transformed over
the last fifty years. They attract a great number of people, from tourists to citizens, from children to
adults. However, in order to understand which institution can be called a museum, it is necessary to
examine the main objectives of its existence.
The most obvious aim is an educational one since museums serve for society in order to conserve,
research and communicate material evidence of people and their environment. Museums give
people the opportunity to determine their place in the world, understand their cultural identity,
develop self respect and respect for others. Nethertheless, to conduct this educational mission,
careful and meaningful selection of objects is required. After being chosen, all the items need to be
preserved for future generations under proper conserving conditions such as good light, air
conditioning,

The Mayflower Rebellion
The first Pilgrims in America set sail from England on the Mayflower in September 1620. More
than 100 people were aboard the ship, many of them seeking religious freedom in the New
World. In November the ship landed on the shores of Cape Cod which in present day would be
called Massachusetts. The intended destination was near the Hudson River in Virginia, an already
established colony. They sent out a search party toward the end of December to look for the group
of passengers but the pilgrims had landed at Plymouth Harbor by mistake.
Originally there was another ship that set sail along with the Mayflower called the Speedwell. The
smaller vessel was not able to make the journey so it returned to port by September. A few
important people travelled on the Mayflower including Myles Standish, a soldier who became the
military leader of the new colony. Also, William Bradford whom founded the Plymouth Colonyand
was the leader of the Separatist congregation. The Mayflower Compact was signed by 41 men
while they were still on the Mayflower. The document would become the foundation of the new
colony s government. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soon after a long voyage of 65 days the ship finally reached the shores of Cape Cod. Most of the
settlers lived on the Mayflower and used a ferry to take passengers back and forth while
building their new storage and homes. The original settlers are buried on what is now called
Burial Hill but was originally the home to the first fort and water tower. The first winter was
very bad and many did not survive due to the pilgrims not having enough food and warm living
areas. John Carver, the first governor was one of the many who died during the winter. In 1621,
William Bradford took over as governor and was reelected more than 30

  • 2. The Correlation Between Disney Movies and Poor Body Image... Disney was named the world s second top media company in the US for the year 2004. They have produced over 44 classics and are one of the most recognized names in animated film (Peterson). We expose young girls to these animated films at a very young age, yet doing so does not seem to be good for these children. Disney s movies are littered with a virtually unattainable image of what a womanshould look like and feeding such images to girls at a young age is wrong and causes low self esteem and poor body image. The term body image refers to a person s sense of satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the physical appearance of his or her body ( Body Image ). Girls are susceptible to influences telling them what they should look like even at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Mulan does appear, she is typically in the kimono like hanfu, which makes her miserable in the movie, rather than her liberated warrior s gear. Unfortunately the warrior s gear is not as pleasing to the eye. Instead it is bulky and manly, neither of which a desired trait for a princess (Hurley). More often than not, princesses are portrayed as feminine and dainty, interested only in clothes, jewellery, and seducing the handsome prince. These are not ideal traits to be teaching children, yet we expose them to media reinforcing these traits with hardly a second thought. The need to fit the dainty feminine role of women portrayed by these princesses is becoming very evident in the adolescents of today. There is evidence that young women who hold the most conventionally feminine beliefs who avoid conflict and think they should be constantly nice and pretty are more likely to be depressed than others. In a survey released last October by Girls Inc., school age girls overwhelmingly reported a paralyzing pressure to be perfect : not only to get straight A s and be the student body president, editor of the newspaper but also to be kind and caring, please everyone, be very thin and dress right. Cell walls give plant cells their rigid oblong shape (in morphogenesis) and its strength aids the plant cell s maintenance of osmotic stability preventing lysis and crenation when exposed to hypertonic or hypotonic environments respectively. The apoplast pathway in the cell wall is also completely permeable to ions and small particles while preventing the entry of toxic macromolecules. Second to cell walls, plant cell membranes contain a variety of different lipids (made of fatty acids), proteins and carbohydrates. The two molecule thick layered structure of membranes is made of a bilayer of amphipathic phospholipids ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fig.1, the absorbance values of the resultant beetroot solutions show a clear increase with increasing temperature, this is gradual from 23В°C to 60В°C, but this steeply increases until 70В°C which was the last data point. Extrapolation may show an exponential increase, until all the red pigment has been liberated from all of the beetroot cells, and the trend line would thus plateau horizontally. In fig.2, the absorbance readings of H2O and chloroform are relatively very small almost negligible, IMS has the second highest reading and Rapid freezing did the most damage to the beetroot cells membranes with a very high absorbance reading. This was so high that it couldn t be detected by the monochromatic light from the spectrophotometer dilutions were made as a result and the absorbance was multiplied to its true value. Discussion: The monochromatic light of the spectrophotometer was set to a value of 540nm (the green region of the visual spectrum). This is essential because the betacyanin pigments present in the vacuoles of beetroot cells are what give the vegetable its distinctive red colour (light transmitted), so the compromise green wavelength is absorbed in the greatest ... • 5. Religion In Kingdom Of Heaven Phua Kuan Chong, Shawn5009 9185(L02) Kingdom of Heaven: A Post Colonial Comparison of the Middle East in the 12th and 21st Century The film Kingdom of Heaven is a dramatized re enactment of the 12th century Crusades in Jerusalem and aired in theatres worldwide in 2005. In the film, the Saracens (Muslims) attempt to reclaim Jerusalem from the Christians but were met with the small and, ultimately, futile resistance organized by the main protagonist Balian of Ibelin. While considerable efforts have been made to accurately portray historical events, many elements of the film especially pertaining to the interaction between Christians and Saracens seem to have been downplayed due to the fear of backlash following the radical Islam ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Saladin s character in the film was open to negotiations for terms of peace, exemplified by the scene where the leper king Baldwin IV rode out to meet him after the incident in Kerak. However, historical evidence points toward the urgency to defend Egypt as the decisive factor behind the withdrawal at Kerak as opposed to a conviction towards peaceful resolutions. After the success of the siege of Jerusalem, Saladin was then seen negotiating the terms of surrender with Balian with palpable restraint even though Balian threatened to burn Jerusalem to the ground ; which would have prevented from him an honourable victory. Additionally, Saladin was also portrayed as particularly merciful as he promised Balian the safe passage of all Christians out of Jerusalem, when in reality; he not only demanded a ransom for each Christian s freedom but also forced thousands of them into slavery. The film, therefore, heavily distorted the portrayal of Saladin as a man almost without religious motivations and particular attention has been placed to emphasis this trait. In one scene, Saladin was seen picking up a fallen ornamental cross on the ground and replacing it on its stand; which reinforces the idea in the audience that Saladin s favours personal faith ... It can also be inferred the Hamlet is more concerned with the marriage of his mother than the death of his father because Hamlet does not mention or express any concern over how his father died until he sees the ghost. This fits in with the oedipal complex because it can be said that unconsciously Hamlet believes that because his father is dead all his competition is gone and his mother should be his. Claudius marring his mother does not fit in with what Hamlet wants and takes his object of desire away from him. Participants in such discussion can arrive at an understanding of their differing views and gain respect for the variation that exists, the first steps towards solving the moral questions that seem unsolvable. To lead towards any justifiable outcome, deliberation must abide by certain guidelines of respect, open mindedness and accommodation. At the heart of the debate must be a genuine acknowledgement that opponents views, though disagreeing with our own, are just as morally sound. In granting this we must also approach the discussion with a willingness to change our opinions if discussion reveals a stronger moral position. Deliberation relies on rational participants who do not blindly cling to prior beliefs despite evidence favoring other ones. If, however, deliberators cannot justify leaving their positions after fair consideration, they must make concessions to the opposing side without sacrificing their own views. By eliminating points of contention opponents can reach towards an economy of moral disagreement. Both the writer and the readers tire quickly if the story gives all of the information, and leaves nothing to be figured out by the reader. The lack of information makes the story far more intriguing. To accomplish his task, Haven uses common literary elements to his benefit. This novel is filled with superstitions, religion and fate, all of these three key components seemed to lead to Santiago s death as the noveland the story of his death developed. He conveys these thoughts throughout the novel using Santiago Nasar s death as something that seemed almost inescapable as you read the novel. Some people may say that school starts too early, and in all reality it does. Students minds are never fully awake at eight a.m.. They may not give themselves enough time to eat breakfast. May not be getting enough sleep. Maybe they don t have a ride. Are the teachers even ready? If school started an hour later would there be as many tardies? Pushing the starttime back an hour may be beneficial for students and teachers. Some kids are not able to drive themselves to school. Whether it be they are out of gas, no car, or not even eligible to drive. If they were to wake up late, and miss the bus, or other transportation, it may take them a while to get to school. Whether they have to walk or whether they have to find someone else to take them. Either way they will most likely be late, and miss class time. If school were pushed back an hour it would give them enough time to make it to class on time. No excuses. You may think that if they do it with this time, that they will do it if changed too. In all reality they can wake up at the same time and not be rushed to get to school. Also have time to eat breakfast, and maybe find another ride. Say that they were to wake up at seven fifty. That would give them enough time to shower if needed, eat, play on their phone, and get to school. Allowing them to be on time to their first hour class, and be able to chat with friends before ... By: Kyle Sibson 14189702 Assessment 1 For this assessment I have been required to compare English with another language. I have decided to choose Mandarin as my language of choice. A major elements of languages will be compared in this essay. That being phonology. Phonology is defined as being the study of the way speech sounds form patterns .(Victoria Fromkin 2009). As (Hammond 1999) describes, every spoken language has a unique system whereby sounds are organised. This unique pattern of pattern can be termed phonology and varies widely in geographical and social differences. [Й»пЃ–tЙ•iпЃЋпЃќ Tone is one of the most important aspects of Mandarin; they can change the meaning of a word just by changing the pitch of how we say the syllable. There are for tones in mandarin (5 if we include the neutral tone) which are high, rising, falling rising and falling. The diagram below shows the pitch of each tone. An example of how tones can change a meaning can be used with the word ma. Ma with a high tone means mother, with a rising tone it means hemp, with a falling rising tone means horse and lastly a falling tone means to scold. We can also say ma with a neutral tone indicates that a yes/no question are being asked(Taochung Yao 1997). So as shown, it is very important when speaking Mandarin that the tones are correct as if they are wrong they can change the entire meaning of a word. So based on the analysis of both English and Mandarin phonology, we can see that they vary greatly. The most logical reason for Chinese having tones is because only about up to 400 different syllables can be made whereas in English there are approximately 12000.(Gao 2002) Also shown in English is the importance of stress and pitch, which lack the same importance in Mandarin. While stress in English can change a noun to a verb or even change the complete meaning of the word, stress in mandarin is only used on certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Narrative Essay About Duck Camp Initially, when I first visited Tarleton State University, all I saw was men wearing cowboy hats, jeans, and boots, but as I walked around campus more with my dad, I started to see more diversity within the students on campus. As my dad and I walked around campus looking like we don t belong, a girl pointed us in the right direction to find Heritage. We spoke to a residential leader who kindly showed us around the dorm and told us how amazing the campusis. From that second forward, I had started to fall in lovewith Tarleton. Orientation soon approached and introduced me to Duck Camp. When I originally heard what Duck camp was about, teaching the heritage and traditions of Tarleton, I was exhilarated to leave that second to learn, socialize, and start my transition from high school to college. Before Duck Camp arrived, one of my TTMs, Wacey Horton, sent me a text saying he will be my daddy duck for Duck Camp one. To be completely honest, I was a little weirded out when I saw him say daddy duck but it made me laugh and all the more excited for Duck Camp. Wacey made my Duck Camp experience something I will never forget for the rest of my life; he made it fun, introduced all of us to new people, established friendships between all of us, and has brought me entirely out of my shell I had enclosed myself in during high school. Thanks to all the work I ve done throughout this class, my writing and writing skills have improved dramatically. As a student, when it comes to writing essays, I have been able to polish my skills in creating ideas. Through working on my artifacts, I have gained even more skills that are going to be useful when I enter the real world working in global business. The part of the artifacts I enjoyed working on the most was writing imaginative letters between the famous Brazilian educator Paulo Freire and myself. We held a deep discussion about the banking and problem posing methods of education. Specifically, I penned a letter from Freire to me explaining why I am in an admissions bubble. I followed that up with a second letter where I appealed that decision to Freire using philosophical arguments aligned with his rationale. In order to truly engage with this assignment, I had to become engrossed in each of our characters and creatively formulate the dialogue between us. Writing from Freire s point of view, I had to think deeply about the motives underlying his problem posing model and why it was important to him. In my response, I then had to relate those theories to the specific context of my own education. Despite the challenging nature of this assignment, it was exciting to write something so different than what I had done before. I am proud ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It went through changes to evolve in the form it is today. The Canada of today was earlier in the form of various British colonies. The region was not united and they joined hand with the passage of time. The history of Canada can be divided roughly into two factions: the pre confederation period and the confederation period. The pre confederation period is the period prior to the unification of Canada. Before the advent of Europeans, Canada had no single unified government or administration. The only kind of politics was the treaties signed among the regions or tribes. At the same time, the local leaders or head of the tribes were the only form of government known to the people. Canada turned into a series of colonies with the arrival of the Europeans. Various regions were colonized by different nations of Europe like Britain, France and even Spain. All the colonies which form Canada were once a part of New France. The British acquired those colonies by the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713 and by the Treaty of Paris in 1763.
