Iran Provides No Freedom of Speech on the Internet Essay
Introduction:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free
exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The first amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America can often be taken for
granted. In many third world countries, the idea of freedom of speech is in the back of people s
minds, but almost never brought to the forefront of issues facing the country and government. In
recent years, this has become especially evident in the Middle East. In the United States, we are
shown a display of the harsh authoritative rule of governments ... Show more content on

However, the rumble of revolution has been felt for many years in Iran. Until recently, this has
never been a big problem for the government to stomp out because of its vast control over speech. It
could easily shut down the printing of reformist newspapers and throw the journalists in jail. Now,
the Internet has taken that little rumble and is quickly turning it into an earthquake. The control the
government had over other outlets can t translate to the Internet because of its vastness and
anonymous nature. The Internet is opening a door to let out the true feelings of the Iranian people,
and the process cannot be reversed.
Background:
The spread of the Internet in Iran started almost the same as it did in the United States. Like in the
1960s and 1970s when only the Unites States Depart of Defense and certain academic institutions
had these nodes in place, Iran only had certain nodes in academia when they first used the Internet
in 19931. It definitely didn t stop there.
Although Internet access in Iran is only at about 3%, it is showing one of the fastest rates of
growth in the world. It is estimated that the number of users in on the Internet will have soared
from 1.2 million in 2003 to 15 million in 20061. With such a rapid expansion of this online
medium will come an increased opposition to the authoritative government. Already the struggle for
democracy can be seen in Iran. Reformist web sites and publications are up

Evergreen Tree Research Paper
It is a rule of nature that whenever an outside force threatens to destroy a body embedded in a
community, that the members of that entrenched body will collaborate to exorcise that hostile
opponent. In the same way, during times of outward peace, members of the same community will
begin to oppose each other and order themselves by an individually reasoned likelihood of survival.
Correspondingly, humans will often align themselves with others of similar political philosophy
during times of international hostility but turn on themselves during times of international
tranquility, forming intranational difficulty. This domestic destabilization, which may be incredibly
minor or catastrophically important, will lead to the formation of factions.... Show more content on

Political parties and their exclusive philosophies have existed for as long as political conflict has
been around and, since it is in the nature of politics to be controversial and, as aforestated, it is in
the nature of humans to be politically inclined, that is to say, political factions have existed forever.
American politics have remained nearly stagnant its amount of political parties, however, never
pausing to appreciably and extensively recognize more than two. The Federalist and Antifederalists
movements formed promptly at the start of the American Revolution. They continued onwards for
a few years, constantly at odds, until the death of the Federalists after the War of 1812. The
Antifederalists continued on, eventually remodeling themselves as the Democratic Republicans
and then the Democrats. The Whig party rose to oppose them in the early 19th century but died
out only a few decades later. Remnants of the Whigs, discontent Democrats, and contingents of
small parties congealed to form the Republican party shortly afterward. The Republicans famously
swelled in popularity briefly before the Civil War and continued to hold office for the next several
decades after the war concluded. Power between the parties switched sides throughout the century
afterwards switching from Democrats to Republicans to Democrats to Republicans (Horger, 2013).
This tug of war temperament of the two parties are responsible for most of today s stormy

How To Infect Salmon
At first when I started college, I was on the path to become a biologist. I wanted to get more
experience in the field, so I asked my advisor, Doctor Amanda Gunn, if there was had any
opportunities for me to get hands on experience in my field. She said she was studying
Aeromonas Salmonicida, a bacterium that causes diseases in salmon. She wanted me to use
bioinformatics tools to learn about its ability to infect salmon. The goal was to determine if certain
aspects of the bacterium could be modified or genetically engineered so the salmon s immune
system would be able to respond more efficiently. This lead me down the path of bioengineering, a
field of study where genetic material is altered for certain characteristics. After completing the...

I go to church on Saturday and while I am not out with my age group every week, I m with a
people who are at least a decade older or younger than me. Some of these people don t get to talk
people to people much so it s fun listening to their stories and fun having someone to listen to them.
People like military members, outdoorsman, and engineers. I also heard about the experience of
being homeless. Aberdeen gets very rainy and cold at night, so not having a place to stay is awful.
The rain from that isn t drained gets all over the sidewalk and whoever has to walk there for just
10 minutes gets their shoes soggy and moist. Imagine walking around all day and sleeping all
night in that! Being homeless also means it harder to afford find food. Hearing these stories
from people I talked to every week made me want to do something about it. I ran for ASB of my
high school and became the Senior Class President. I used my position to organize foodball, an
event where two cities compete to raise the most resources for the Coastal Harvest. That is a food
storage facility that donates to food banks across the State of Washington in times of emergency.
The year I was running it the two cities competing were Hoquiam and Aberdeen. Even though
the name was foodball, it wasn t just food we were collecting. It was also money to donate to and
help raise resources for food banks, like socks, shoes, and shirts. I cleaned up after the events,
dressed up as a mascot and danced to raise money for several events. I was even able to run an
intercity dodgeball game. A game which Aberdeen won. Although Aberdeen didn t beat Hoquiam
in the end, we managed to beat the amount of food raised last year. After foodball ended, I
decided I wanted to do more. I became a deacon at my church and several times a month I help run
the P.A., fix broken things around the church with my dad, and count and collect offering. While
Aberdeen does have a punk flair to it, I feel it

Firefighter Career Plan Essay
CAREER PLAN Mike Hast Firefighter A firefighter s job is dangerous. They attempt to control
and extinguish fires, first and foremost. They also respond to emergency conditions where life and
property are at risk. When a firefighter is not on the scene of an emergency, they spend their time at
fire stations, where they sleep, eat, and remain on call during shifts that can last 24 hours. Many
firefighters work more than the traditional 40 hours per week. Firefighter s duties can include the
following: Driving fire trucks or other emergency vehicles Putting out fires using water hoses, fire
extinguishers, and water pumps Finding and rescue victims in burning buildings or in other
emergency situations Treating sick or injured people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fighting fires requires prolonged use of strength and endurance. Firefighters must be strong
enough to carry heavy equipment and move debris at an emergency site. They must also be able
to carry victims who are injured or cannot walk Employment of firefighters is projected to grow
5 percent from 2014 to 2024, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Improved building
materials and building codes have resulted in a long term decrease in fires and fire fatalities, but
firefighters will still be needed to respond to fires. Fires can spread rapidly so controlling them
quickly is very important. Wildland firefighters will still be needed to combat active fires and
manage the environment to reduce the impact of fires. Firefighters will also continue to respond
to medical emergencies. Prospective firefighters will likely face strong competition for jobs.
Many people are attracted to the job s challenges and the opportunity for public service.

Retinal Degeneration
New stem cell treatment has the potential to restore vision once lost. Researchers have developed
a new treatment that prevents irreversible vision loss brought on by end stage retinal disease. The
new technique involves the use of stem cells that are grown in a lab. During trails, scientist s were
able to grow new retinatissue and then transplant the tissue into the mice who had end stage retinal
degeneration. During the study skin cells are taken from an adult mouse and converted with
induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). During this experiment, researchers from RIKEN Center for
Developmental Biology in Japan used iPSCs since they can act like embryonic stem cells. Coupled
with a shuttle avoidance test researchers determined whether the... Show more content on

More than forty percent of the mice tested gained the ability to see light clearly. This was a new
medical advancement for the science community as no one has ever before been successful in
transplanting stem cells that have the ability to sense light. Retinal degeneration is extremely
complex to treat until now. Cells need to have the ability to make connections with the host s
nervous system and send signals to the brain. Regardless, many unsolved answers exist.
Researchers are still trying to find a way to increase the number of connections between a
degenerated retina and the transplant. This would allow the hosts to not only see light but large
scale figures and movement. This is extremely important as retinal degeneration that affects
approximately around 170 million people worldwide can led to total blindness. Nevertheless, this
advancement comes with many unanswered questions. Researchers are concerned whether this
treatment could actually be applied to humans as many risk factors exist. The experiments do not
provide information on recovery time in humans nor how the transplanted retinas would respond to
the same procedure. Moreover, Scientists contend whether human eyes have different environments
from mice. The only way researchers could test human retinal transplants would be from human
conducted trails which remain a controversial

Theme Of Choices In A Rose For Emily And Hills Like White...
In life, everyone has choices that can determine their future. There are always two choices in life,
one that will leave people not regretting their decision and another that will always make an
individual second guess the choice they made. Choices do not just happen to real people they can
also happen to characters in pieces of literature. In every story, short or long, the reader gets an
understanding of the characters and the situation(s) they are in. In A Rose for Emilyand Hills like
White Elephants the characters in these stories the characters make decisions that change their
lives. The author conveys the theme of choices can take people s lives in different directions by
using symbolism, imagery, and oppression of women. Faulkner, the author of A Rose for Emily
uses symbolism through the entire story to help convey the theme. An example of symbolism
would be Emily Garrison s house. The house is a very old pre civil war house which during the
time Emily s father was alive it was a very nice and prestigious house. Her house helps the
development of the theme by being a symbol for an older generation. Emily Garrison is stuck in
the past and does not want to accept that times have changed and her house is a good
representation of that. Her house never changes and it never does in the story because Emily makes
the choiceto not go on with the times which helps allude to the theme. In the story Hills like White
Elephants by author also uses symbolism. The

J.G. Ballard s Science Fiction Legacy
Ballard along with many other new wave science fiction writers believed that science fiction should
be taken seriously as a form of literature. In order to fulfill this belief the new wave science fiction
writers began experimenting with language and their style of writing, creating cognitive
estrangement , indicating a kind of alienation or de familiarization effect that they used to separate
postmodern/new wave science fictionfrom traditional/pulp science fiction. Ballard, amongst
many others, is considered one of the forefathers that helped develop the New wave movement
to what we know of it today. Ballard was born in Shanghai in 1930, where he spent the first
fifteen years of his profound life. At the age of sixteen, Ballard interned at a Japanese camp
during World War II and, was deported to England. He attended Cambridge University and
obtained his degree in medicine, and a few years later he sold his first story to New Worlds, a
renowned science fiction magazine, in 1956. He is the author of numerous novels and short story
collections, including Crash, Empire of the Sun and The Atrocity Exhibition. Ballard stepped into
the realm of the new wave movement, early in his career with apocalyptic/post apocalyptic novels
such as The Burning World (1964), The Crystal World (1966) and many others. Ballard was a
writer who challenges easy categorization: even his most speculative books can t be fitted neatly
with a genre label, and his more mainstream works contain

Think huge drifts, not a spot of fluff on the trail. White gas stoves can easily get clogged up and
fail completely, particularly when they are not cleaned or cared for properly. Canister stoves
can also have issues vaporizing fuel when they get too cold. Though it may mean extra weight,
you will thank yourself later. Wrap Your Fuel Cans Speaking of stoves, don t overlook those

in how it will impact your skin. Even touching a fuel bottle that isn t insulated with the bare skin

on the other hand has a huge impact on how they represent themselves to consumers such as
images associated with Coca Cola include freedom, youth, refreshment, fun, innovation etc. These
are just some of the assumptions which come to mind when thinking of Coca Cola s image. On
the other hand we could look at how Coca Cola compares to its competitors both direct and
indirectly through the use of a perceptual map (See Appendix 1).
It is clear that Coca Cola leads the competition in terms of quality and popularity with competition
from both direct and indirect companies such as Pepsi who are their main competitors but indirect
companies include Tropicana Innocent smoothies. As these are its indirect companies competing
against them in the opposite and more healthy market which means Coca Cola brand image is

known to cause the opposite of what innocent smoothies do for its consumers.

The Leadership Of The Sandwich Company
I. INTRODUCTION The modern leadership theories (hereafter, theories) recognise the
importance of followers in the leadership process. These theories view leadership as an interaction
between leaders and follower. They focus on the relationship between a leader and follower and
view this relationship as the core to the success of any organisation. Kirsty s leadershipmay be seen
as reflective of all the path goal theory, leader member exchange theory (hereafter, LMX theory)
and the transformational leadership theory (hereafter, TLT). In this report a discussion will be
provided of the ways in which Kirsty s leadership may be seen as reflective of all these theories
and approaches to leadership. A critical analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of Kirsty s
leadership for the Sandwich Company s (hereafter, company) will also be provided to highlight how
these factors could interplay in the company s continued success. The success of the company
illustrates that Kirsty effectively uses the guidance provided by each theory to inform her
leadership practice. However, the company s internal and external environment is starting to
change. Therefore, the potential weakness inherent in the theories associated with her leadership
style could come to surface which may delimit the company s continued success. II. DISCUSSION
Path Goal Theory According to the path goal theory the leader s role is to motivate followers to

The Classroom and Learning a Second Language
There is only one reason could be considered why learners decide to use L1 in the classroom. This
is because the teacher s efforts encourage them to communicate in the target language. Harmer
(2002) maintains that the second language users choose to use the mother tongue when there is no
compatible with their L2 level. When the teacher does not create an environment for students to
communicate naturally to use English, students may need to use L1 to communicate. If the teacher
does not use the target languagetoo much so that students may feel free to use their mother tongue
in the second languageclassroom. Thus, some different learning stylescan be implemented that
enable students to use the target language much more easily.
Learners and teachers of L2 used their L1 in classroom for few reasons which are proficiency
level, for comprehension, affective factor and to express feelings and thoughts.
2.2.1 Proficiency level
Learning a new language might be frustrating for students who have low proficiency level.
Difficulties in producing sentences with correct use of grammar and appropriate choice of words
is somewhat common amongst students whose ability to acquire an L2 is low. Thus, switching to
L1 is the easiest way to overcome those problems. Bouangeune (2009) stated that L1 makes an
important contribution to English teaching mostly in the area of vocabulary for students with a
lower proficiency level. However, using L1 is harmless in any L2 classroom as it could be

Saber The Hero s Journey
In The Search, by Naguib Mahfouz, the protagonist, Saber, brings forth the question of what it
means to be a genuine hero. After being thrust into a world of uncertainty, he sets off on a search
to find his father. Yet, it is quickly apparent that Saber lacks the qualities to be a hero in the
traditional sense. While Saber does experience a portion of expected heroic like events, he fails to
be a typical herobecause of his inability to overcome his transgressions and maintain conventional
heroic attributes. He does, however, partially make his amends as an anti hero.
According to Joseph Cambell s Hero s Journey, there is a standard set of actions that transpires in
multiple stories, particularly in heroic ones. This sequence of actions guides ... Show more content

This idea is supported in The Search, by how Elham serves as both a foil to Saber s character
and a symbol of improvement for him. To clarify, up until this point it is clear that Saber (in his
unheroic like fashion) is mainly relying on others to complete his search. In Cairo, he finally
places an advertisement for his father, though in perspective, it means the success of his search
practically depends on his father seeing the advertisement and responding to it. Saber makes no
further attempts to even narrow down his father s possible occupation or location. In contrast,
Elham cultivates her own future, acquiring a higher education while working as a clerk, a
noteworthy feat for a woman in her times. Saber, the supposed hero, however is unwilling to
accommodate for a more reliable and realistic life. When Elham questions why he does not work
he responds, any work I do must come through my father. It s worthless otherwise (372). And later
when she actually offers to find him possible job opportunities his excuse is only, there s nothing I
know how to do (407). Though the reader may wish Saber to choose Elham, thus ultimately
developing his character and improving his odds, he remains

The Impact Of Diversity On The Workplace
3.2. Positive impacts
The diversity has always been a concern for businesses and governments because the minority can
feel sometimes left out and excluded for the employment sector. Therefore it has always been a
priority for any government. They want to prove that they have been elected and are representing
the entire population not just a group of people. Also businesses want to send a good image to their
customers that they care about everyone even the minority.
First of all, Kirton and Greene (2005) said that every company has the legal obligation to promote
diversity in the organisation in order to avoid social injustice within the workplace and reduce
disadvantages experienced by some minorities or social group. It is important ... Show more content

An organisation that promotes diversity shows their employees that they don t have to worry about
their ethnicity or cultural background in order for them to progress in that company. Only relevant
things like competency and the knowledge of the work matter the most. (Bryan, 1999)
According to Triandis (1994), managing a diverse workforce means that the company had to
change their old ways of doing things and adjust to a new way because that organisation needed to
do more research and analysis in order to find the right way or procedure that works best for
everyone.
Leach, George and LaBelle (1995) have used to word working with diversity instead of using the
usual word managing . According to them, the word working sounds much better because it is a
way of showing respect to the diverse workforce instead of using the term managing which sounds
a bit pejorative. They believed so because when someone says managing, it is like they are
describing a sub group within that organisation. Therefore, the company or organisation that
promotes diversity need to be very patient in order to observe and learn how to promote diversity
in their workplace.
After many examinations, Finney (1989) believed that companies did use diversity in their
workplace environment not only because they law required them to do so but also because they
did what was right for them in term of success, growth and also to satisfy the demand of their

The odds ratio is the probability something will occur over the probability that it wont (Plichta
Kelvin, 2013). Odds ratio should fall in between the confidence interval, in the study s case it
shows there is no statistical significance in when comparing the odds ratio to the confidence
intervals due to all odds radio falling in between the confidence intervals. The Pearson test is
where the researcher is able to determine if there is an association between two variables of
interval or ratio measurement (Plichta Kelvin, 2013). When examining the value calculated by
the Pearson test it is suggested that a value +/ 0.10 is weak, value of 0.30 is moderate or typical,
and +/ 0.50 is considered substantial (Plichta Kelvin, 2013). Furthermore, we can suggest that if
r equals 1 there is a negative relationship, or if r equals 0 there is no relationships, and lastly if r
equals +1 it indicates a positive relationship. In reviewing the relationship between variables, we
can conclude that is there is no relationship between fatalism and religiosity due to r=0.11 and
fatalism and spirituality due to r = 0.106. Furthermore, the p value was set at 0.05 for each of

The And The Levi Jordan Plantation
Blacksmithing and the Levi Jordan Plantation
Introduction
Have you ever wondered about the mysteries of Texas plantations? Well, this paper will hope to
solve some of those incredible mysteries. Blacksmithing is a cool job that keeps the culture of the
medieval castles and knights possible. It is a great way to understand how life was in the past.
Some other things this paper will go over are artifacts found on the plantation, differences from past
life to today, things about blacksmiths, and how things were made.
Backstory
First of all, some backstory about the plantation this paper is about is that Levi Jordan was born in
Georgia and inherited land in Brazoria the Levi Jordan Plantation. The Levi Jordan Plantation was

As the decades went on the blacksmiths began to do more tool and vehicle repair and spent less of
their time making items. Their tools can be divided into three categories, the flames, the anvil and
sledge/hammer, and the some other equipment. Under the first group was the bellows, the
shovels, the rake and pretty much anything else used to move the coals, and the water trough.
Under the second group was the tongs, cutters and chisels, as well as hammers and anvils. In the
third group was the shoeing box (which contains knives, rasps, and files) to make horses feet
and horse shoes. They made items by first softening the metal over a flame. They then used a
bellows to get the flame as hot as necessary. There are three levels of heat, snowball heat, full
welding heat, and light welding heat. The hottest is snowball heat, which refers to white heat; is
used to weld. Then there is full welding heat, not quite as hot as snowball, employed to weld mild
steel. The last is low or light welding heat, rarely used because of how difficult it is. Then when it
is hot enough the blacksmith hits it with a hammer to shape it. A blacksmith is trained as an
apprentice by a more experienced blacksmith because there was no trade school. Some things that
blacksmith s construct are ploughshares, sickles, scythes, metal parts for wagons and carriages,
wheel rims, tools, axe heads, hammers, shovels, hoes, pitchforks, nails, screws, bolts,

Ruby Mine Short Story
Ruby Mines, please come to the office. A voice said over the intercom. Even though Ruby was my
best friend, I wasn t worried. Calls down to the office are just usually minor things. That s what I
thought. But, as I was about to discover, they could also be major.
Ruby ran up to me after school that day with her face creased with worry. She explained that she
was suspected of stealing the 7th grade student files, a crime that was committed a day earlier. I
knew she never did it. She said that Lexi Marker, a girl in our grade was the one that turned her
in. Lexi was a very popular girl, but loved attention (too much), and so probably just wanted to put
the spotlight on her. I really didn t want to have to be involved in a mystery, they re ... Show more

Why would you do that when you just could go home and use your phone, since you were the
one that stole your phone. I retorted. No... she started, but stopped when Mr. Johnston glared at
her. Silence. he said. Rose, thank you. I ll talk to you later. The next half hour was Lizzi trying
to get out of confessing. Eventually, he found out that she was behind it all just because she
wanted to get Ruby kicked off the basketball team. Lizzi was so annoying! She said she didn t
like how good Ruby was because she didn t want Ruby to take her spot on the A team. This was
probably the only logical thing she ever did, although it was mean. I m sure Ruby will be a little
scared when she hears that Lizzi thought she was good enough to kick her off the team! Lizzi

The Impact Of Prescription Drugs On The Health Sector
A substantial piece of the U.S market in the health sector is run by the prescription drugs and,
therefore, making the U.S the global largest market of pharmaceuticals accounting for more than a
third of the world s expenditure on drugs. It is estimated that in 2014 slightly over $300 billion
were spent on prescription drugswhich accounts for roughly 10 cents of every dollar in the U.S
healthcare market. The U.S expenditure on prescription drugs has been growing at an annual rate
of 11% for the last 27 years between 1980 and 2007. But the expenditure has slowed between
2008 and 2013 to about 2% annual average which has been occasioned by several reasons including
the 2008 financial quagmire which was also responsible for the reduction in the overall U.S health
care costs, the application of controls towards insurer drug utilization and also the production of a
less amount of new blockbuster drugs within that period (Institute for Healthcare Informatics,
2014)..
The slow growth in the prescription market could also be attributed to the rising increased
utilization of cheap generic drugs with patents for the best selling drugs also being outdated.
According to the Centers for Medicare Medicaid services, the year 2014 witnessed a prescription
drug spending increase of over 12 percent that was partly due to an increase in the use of specialty
drugs. It also projected an average annual growth of 6.3% between 2015 and 2024 (Institute for
Healthcare Informatics, 2014). The

The World Trade Organization Essay
The World Trade Organisation (WTO) is today seen as one of the pillars of international trade and
financial systems of the world alongside the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund,
despite being only sixteen years old. With what began as the succession to the previous guidelines
and rules set out by the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade
back in 1948, it is now seen as the
main unifying force of world trade today a key player in both the conduct of trade relations and
global governance. (Herman, 1999) Today, as the world s economy and its nations continue to

The present main rules and principles that currently embody the organisation are the non
discrimination of markets, reciprocity, transparency and offering special assistance towards
developing countries. (Ahearn, 2010)
The WTO pursues its objectives through operating as a forum, which encourage negotiations
between members to administer trade agreements. Negotiations are run according to dispute
settlements. Other goals of the WTO include the review of national trade policies and offering
assistance with the cooperation of other international organisations through assistance and training.
Principles are then incorporated into the system following negotiations and debates with its
members, known as rounds, with the bulk of current principles emerging from the Uruguay round
between 1986 and 1994.
To date there have been many successes of the system with which the WTO can account for since
its creation. The primary success has been the growth in world trade through the WTO s removal of
trade barriers and globalisation, giving an 120% increase in trade according to (Subramania, Wei
2007). Dispute settlement is another strength of the organisation where the WTO is able to handle
three times the number of disputes in comparison to the previous system, the GATT thus reducing
the time it takes for laws and guidelines to be implemented into practice. (Lash, 2000)
The WTO additionally aimed to promote trade

History Of The Periodic Table Of Elements
Leonardo Miranda Mr. Tagami Chemistry 10/24/14 History of the Periodic Table of Elements
The construction of the Periodic Table of Elements was prior to the discovery of the individual
elements. Elements such as silver, gold, tin, copper, lead and mercury have been known for
centuries. In 1649, the first scientific discovery of an element was made by Hennig Brand when
he discovered phosphorous. Prior to Brand s discovery, chemists had acquired an immense body
of understanding concerning the properties of elements and their compounds for the next 200
years. By the year 1869, a collection of 63 elements had been revealed. As the number of known
elements increased, scientists began to notice patterns in properties and formulate classification
schemes. In 1862, a French geologist, A.E.Beguyer de Chancourtois, recorded a list of the
elements on a cylinder regarding their individual atomic weights. He was the first to identify that
elemental properties reoccur every seven elements. There has been some deviation on who
deserves credit for being the father of the periodic table, either the German Lothar Meyer or the
Russian Dmitri Mendeleev. Both chemists shockingly produced similar results during the same
time period working individually. Meyer s 1864 textbook included a shortened version of the
periodic table, which contained about half of the known elements ordered by their atomic weight
and valence charges. In 1868, Meyer assembled a prolonged version of the periodic

An Analysis of the Australian Curriculum
Introduction
With the introduction of the Australian National Curriculum into all education systems across the
country, many questions and debates have occurred in reference to its effectiveness. From the often
perceived conflicting curriculum definitions to the unfortunate failures of past attempts of
curriculum implementation, every member of the community has an opinion on this significant
shift in the way Australia thinks of its children s education (Rudd, 2007). The Australian Curriculum
however, has attempted to provide answers to these misgivings and societal concern, from an easy
to use website interface, transparent developmental process and state/ territory inclusion of
common educational individualities. The Australian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Australian political structure and the level of authority the federal government has over state
/territory and independent organisations over educational policy, may have been a contributing
factor for this lack of committed development and intended eventual nationwide implementation
(Marsh, 2010). Learning from previous governments attempts implementing a national curriculum,
the federal government from 2009, enacted a series of shaping reforms, with the aim of successfully
gaining support and legal authority over the implementation of a national curriculum (Marsh, 2010).
The request for state/territory appointed representatives, statements of open consultation in
development, through to what Brady and Kennedy (2010) refer to as hard policy , including the
establishment of ACARA as a statutory body over all manner of educational policy and the linking
of funding repercussions to the implementation of the Australian Curriculum (Schools Assistance
Bill, National Education Agreement) has led to all educational organisations agreeing to the use of
the impending curriculum documents.
Brady and Kennedy (2010) state that no single form of curriculum model is commonly used by
developers, therefore using specific components of different models and designing a process that
works for the organisation or individuals intent. As such the Australian Curriculum developers

Flooding of the Red River
The Red River located near Fargo, North Dakota, has a history of flooding due to abnormal
climate conditions. Every year precautions are taken to help minimize damages that are caused by
the flooding. There are four main reasons that contribute to the river flooding so often. These main
reasons for the floods are: Synchrony of discharge with spring thaw, ice jams, glacial lake plain,
and the decrease in gradient downstream. The first reason that contributes to the river flooding so
often is the ice melting in the spring. The Red River flows northward, and when the ice thaws, it
also runs northward along the valley, causing runoff from the southern portions of the river. When
the ice, river water, and runoff all join together in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the melting of the glaciers, Lake Agassiz became a lake of its own and the lake s fine
claylike silt that has accumulated on the bottom is the reason for the fertility of the valleys in
the Red River. Many people often ask what can be done to fix the problems of the flooding. The
reality of the situation is that these floods are going to continue to happen until the Red River
establishes itself in its area. The river is not done carving its path yet. Many geologists believe
that it was an unwise decision to build a city, like Fargo, that is so close to the river where it is
known to produce massive floods and create major problems. The property and lands in Fargo
are going to continue to receive damage due to the floods. The river flows across
unconsolidated, fine grain sediments which causes the river to meander. The results of the
meandering are wider river edges due to the water washing away the land near the shores. Until
the Red river establishes itself, it is going to cut a bigger and wider path which will result in
more land and homes being destroyed. Rotational slump is defined as a variety of landslide
characterized by movement along a concave up failure surface (Ailsa Allaby). Slump is common
where clay rich materials are exposed along a steep slope. This is the case with the Red River.
When the water from the Red River washes up next to a curved surface of the land, the

Not many sports are as physically demanding on the human body as football. The physical toll that
football players pay is almost impossible to comprehend unless one has actually played the sport
for a significant amount of time. However, until recently any connection between the hits taken by
football players and their health down the road was largely ignored. A common, yet difficult injury
to detect in football is a concussion, the most common traumatic brain injury. A concussion is
defined as a brain injury that is caused by a sudden blow to the head or the body. The blow shakes
the brain inside the skull, which temporarily disrupts the brain from functioning normally. Reports
and studies have surfaced shedding light on just how much damage is inflicted upon the brain due
to crippling hits. These studies suggest that NFL athletes who received concussions suffered lasting
damage to the brain, which opens the gate to a multitude of other health issues such as dementia,
Alzheimer s disease, and clinical depression .
Football is a violent and fast sport in which many injuries cannot be avoided. When proper
technique is used on a tackle the shoulder proceeds down and the head remains up. However the
upperbody of the runner goes down, and the head is lowered, which is the body natural response
when anticipating an impact. As the tackler moves forward his upperbody is also lowered to the

of nature. But Nature shows its dominance in the face of human error and arrogance. In the Book
Into thin air many of the characters display pride and arrogance in their abilities to tame nature and

The expedition guides show arrogance and pride while trying to climb Mount Everest. At one point

to his team because he had been on other mountain climbing expeditions and most of everyone

climbers on his team. Another time Krakuaer states the incompetence of other clients and groups

most of the other expeditions on the mountain. There was a very real fear that the Taiwanese would

Samuel Taylor Coleridge s The Rime Of The British...
Samuel Taylor Coleridge, a leader of the British Romantic Movement, was born in Devonshire,
England on October 21, 1772. Out of fourteen children, he was the youngest in the family.
Samuel s father, Reverend John Coleridge was a much respected priest of a town and also
headmaster of Henry VIII s Free Grammar School. Samuel attended his father s school until the
age of 8, but after his father passed away in 1781, he attended Christ s Hospital School in London
where he remained throughout his childhood studying and writing poetry. Starting off Coleridge s
early work was predictable, but before long he began writing in a more natural style.
Another great influence to his writing was his friend William Wordsworth, who he met in 1795.
From 1797 to 1798 he lived close to Wordsworth in Somersetshire, and the two men worked
together on a joint volume of poetry called Lyrical Ballads. The collection that they did is
considered the first great work of the Romantic school of poetry and contains Coleridge s famous
poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is the longest major poem by Coleridge. It was written between
1797 1798 and published in 1798 in the first edition of Lyrical Ballads. It was a shift to modern
poetry and the beginning of British Romantic literature. No other period in English literature
displays more variety in symbolism, style, and theme than Romantic. There are many examples of
symbolism in the story. Coleridge believed

Tragedy Of Romeo And Juliet Essay
The Tragedy Behind Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is a classic tragedy, that in which two people s love causes death and suffering.
Each character in the play is affected by Romeo and Juliet s love in some form. The juvenile love
between Romeo and Juliet caused tragedy to become the vision of this play, together they did not
fully understand how their actions would affect their families and friends. The tragedy of Romeo
and Juliet is one of the most famous love stories in english literature, the characters flaws and
strengths are the main reason the play s popularity Romeo claimed to love Rosaline, and was
sure she was the woman he wanted to be with. As soon as Romeo saw Juliet he knew he was in
love, he says, Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear! (Shakespeare.mit.edu) Romeo was so
young he didn t understand how love works or anything really about love. He only focuses on
beauty instead of inner beauty. This inexperienced way of thinking is the character flaw that lead
to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo falling in love with Juliet is a good example of what

Essay on Eliminating Abbreviations Errors in the Medical...
How can eliminating abbreviations reduce errors?
The use of abbreviations shortens length of many words thus really help healthcare professionals in
saving time spent in writing notes. Abbreviations however do not always provide positive
contributions due to misconceptions, misunderstandings, and misinterpretations leading to
commitment of errors in the practice. Similarities in abbreviations for instance could root to a
grave mistake. For instance the q.d. which an inscriber would like to indicate as every day could

Policies would need to provide lists of accepted abbreviations and their standard meaning. That
would be one of the best ways of preventing creation of abbreviations or assigning different
meaning on a certain standard abbreviation. Despite of universal standard policies on the use of
abbreviations, organizations would know better the strength and flaws of using abbreviations in
particular healthcare facility. Organizational policies should therefore be also developed which
would include the universal standard policies and organizational policies believed to maintain
safety practice. The policy should clearly specify the abbreviations that can be safely used and
their standard meanings in the organizations and those that should not be used providing the
common errors generated. The policy must also indicate the forms of written paper that allows
using abbreviations. The Institute for Safe Medication Practices for instance has provided lists of
abbreviations that should never be used to communicate medical information (ISMP, 2007).
Policies should also provide simple yet concise guidelines on the use of abbreviations. The
methodologies of quality control such as through periodic audit on proper usage of abbreviations
should be also specified. The persons authorized to use abbreviations should be also clearly
specified. The policy would need regular updating and should therefore clearly specify the dates. If
necessary, consequences of non obedience to the policy

Global governance institutions, from the International...
Global governance institutions, from the International Monetary Fund to the World Trade
Organization, are little loved. They are often perceived as bastions of sclerotic mediocrity at best
and outright corruption at worst. In the wake of the 2008 financial crash, Daniel W. Drezner, like
so many others, observed the smoking ruins of the global economy and wondered the extent to
which global governance institutions have affected the post recession, international system.
In The System Worked, Drezner contends that despite the massive scale and reverberations of this
latest crisis (larger, as he argues, than those that precipitated the Great Depression), the global
economy has bounced back remarkably well. Examining the major resuscitation ... Show more

Conceptually, Denzer appears to conflate the phases of violence, discrediting the belief that
violence transpires through stages. In a Denzerian world, the international system is bifurcated
between violence and nonviolence. In his assessment of financial resilience through public
sentiments, Denzer s overinvestment in evidence that measures peace through actual violence
versus potential violence discredits various disputes that have escalated diplomatically, but have
yet to turn violent. Denzer supposes that all liberalizing change must involve varying degrees of
violence, ipso facto breaching a threshold of peace. Denzer profoundly overlooks the generally
peaceful regime changes in Egypt and Tunisia, which, like so many others, were predominantly led
by civil disobedience, civil resistance, and online activism, rarely intensifying into violent
demonstrations. Denzer s assessment also misses cold or still conflicts, whose underlying causes
and historic underpinnings have surfaced amid the ever competitive, protectionist nature following
Great Recession. Take for example China and Japan s diplomatic clash over the contested Senkaku
Islands. For four decades, Chinese and Japanese grievances have been reshaped in light of new
regional expectations and financial conditions. In Japan s case, the

Buchan Point Beach Research Paper
Think of Cairns and you immediately picture beaches and sunshine, so what better to add to the
mix than nudity? Buchan Point Beach, known colloquially as Buchan s, provides nudists with an
unofficial, but these days, rarely disturbed venue. Moments north of the little suburb of Buchan
Point, where a driver first glimpses the breathtaking vista of beaches stretching all the way north to
Port Douglas, this secluded beach beckons sun worshippers, with a big P for Parking down the
bottom of the hill indicating the turn off to the beach.
Since at least the early 1960 s people wanting a clothes optional area with privacy and seclusion,

In years gone by, the odd, (usually very odd) wowser either wrote to the paper or complained
directly to the police or council, complaining about the terrible disgrace of feverishly imagined
debaucheries and provoked raids. On one occasion, a mother and daughter, found themselves taken
to the Cairns city police station, charged with offensive behaviour, and then obliged to make their
own way back to their vehicles, a good 40 minutes north of Cairns by car.
However the last reported raid came about because police simply found themselves with too much
time on their hands, the cancellation of the 2001 Surfer s Paradise CHOGM leaving a lot of police
rostered and too few duties to go around. Off they went to Buchan s in search of easy convictions,
though consequently, an unimpressed magistrate imposed the smallest possible fines while the
mayor and tourism operators complained bitterly about the impact of the raid on the local economy.
Even the Cairns Post joined in the criticism, interviewing a New Zealand couple convicted of

The Issue Of Mandatory Overtime For Nurses And Why It...
McIntyre s framework is a method of conducting in depth analysis that emphasizes understanding
issues in healthcare as complicated and multifactorial problems, while exploring barriers to
resolving the issue (McIntyre McDonald, 2014, p. 5). Using this framework, this paper will
provide an in depth analysis of the issue of mandatory overtime for nurses, and why it should not be
eliminated from use by hospital management.
Situating the Topic
Working overtime is a prevalent practice among nurses that hospital management uses to deal
with staff shortages. According to Manitoba Nurses Union (MNU), 34% of Manitoba nurses
reported working overtime (2014, p. 4). Most overtime worked by nurses in Manitoba is
voluntary, however, it is legal to mandate nurses to work overtime if required. Three in 10 overtime
shifts worked by nurses in Manitoba are involuntary (MNU, 2010, p. 6). MNU defines mandatory
overtime as a situation in which the nurse refuses the offered overtime and the employer orders the
nurse to continue working after their assigned shift has ended (p. 7). Mandatory overtime is seen
as an absolute, last possible resort for hospital managers, after all other options and possibilities
have been exhausted (MNU, p. 6).
If the nurse being offered overtime determines they are too exhausted to provide safe, competent,
and compassionate care, the nurse may refuse to work the mandatory overtime (College of
Registered Nurses of Manitoba [CRNM], 2002, p. 1). Other potential

Essay On Reconstruction After The Civil War
From April 12, 1861, to May 9, 1865, the United States had one of its bloodiest conflicts that it
was ever involved in. The Civil War was a war between the North and the South of the United
States. During this war, there were around 620,000 men that were killed. This war ended after
Confederate general Edmund Kirby Smith surrendered his troops. At this point the fighting had
ceased, however, the tensions between the North and the South were still present. There were still
disagreements on the rights of the now freed blacks. After the Civil War, there was a question on
how the South would re enter the government of the Union and how the southern states were going
to view the blacks. This time period after the Civil War where these questions were answered is
known as The Reconstruction and lasted from 1863 1877. During this time period, President
Lincoln was murdered and President Johnson was impeached. Congress also made major additions
to the Constitution that they thought would bring equality to the South. These changes caused a
backlash and whites tried to get back to the way things were before the war when whites had all
the power. Despite a few positive outcomes, this era of reconstruction of the South ultimately failed.

The southern states entered back into the Union but there were still uncertainties on the status of
the slaves. During this time period, there were three amendments to the constitution that gave the
blacks their rights. These amendments cause backlash from white supremacy groups. This time
period also shifted the economy in both the North and the South. The Reconstruction ultimately
failed to protect the freed slaves. This era put the blacks into a poor economic and social situation
and did not achieve equal rights for all citizens. The Reconstruction Era left the South with a

Immigration Is A Foreign Policy Hot Topic
Immigration according to definitions online is the movement of people into a destination country
to which they are not native or do not possess its citizenship in order to settle or reside there,
especially as permanent residents or naturalized citizens, or to take up employment as a migrant
worker or temporarily as a foreign worker. However, in order to understand why immigrationhas
become a foreign policy hot topic, we must understand the history of immigration.
Since the initial settlers arrived in North America, immigration has filled the American experience.
Undeniably, many of the principles that unite Americans as a nation are tied to immigration.
Historically, immigration has not only outlined our visualization of the United States role around
the world, but immigration has also trickled into our interpretation of human nature. One great
Philosopher, and the leader of the transcendentalist movement of the Mid 19th century; Ralph
Emerson saw it best. Emerson viewed immigration as a marvel that will build a new race, a new
religion, a new state, and a new literature in the United States (www.foreignpolicy infocus.org). The
idealism surrounding immigration clarifies in part the profound feelings immigration induces in the
public policy field. These feelings have shoved with anxieties about the economy, ethnic relations
and many other issues. In recent years, however, the discussion over immigration has prolonged to
integrate a wide array of foreign policy issues

The Type Of Parenting Associated With The Tiger Mother
The type of parenting associated with the tiger mother has been a subject of intense controversy
for a very long time. Even though the term itself only became part of our understanding in 2011
thanks to the very controversial book, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, by Amy Chua, there were
always questions of how much discipline is healthy and necessary for a child.
In Chua s book, she contrasts the two sides of parenting styles: what she calls Chinese parenting and
Western parenting. Chinese parenting refers to the strict and intense style of upbringing in which
the parent has (or tries to exert) complete control over their child. The parent is wholeheartedly
focused on honing their child s skills in school, music, maybe a sport, or ... Show more content on

Western parents argue that children should be allowed to make mistakes and become better people
by learning from those errors. Thus, they say that the tiger mother doesn t love their child because
it s much harder to watch your child make mistakes in the hopes that they will learn from them
than it is to simply reprimand them (and correct and intervene, even before mistakes are made or it
s too late to be good at anything).
When Chua s book came out, the media received it with horror. Chua was called a horrible
monster , the worst mom in the world , and many other unflattering names.. Chua shocked much
of America with her seemingly brutal parenting: many people were flabbergasted by the idea that
a parent wouldn t let their child attend a sleepover, or make them practice 4 hours of violin a day,
or threaten to burn their dolls if they didn t listen. The tiger mother had exploded onto the scene,
and the onlookers were horrified by the carnage they saw behind her. How could a mother be so
tyrannical and abusive? Some even called for Chua s arrest for child abuse. In her book, she talks
about how a survey showed that Chinese mothers thought that academic success reflected good
parenting, whereas Western mothers thought that stressing academic success is not good for
children . This shows that what seemed ordinary for Chua and Chinese mothers were strange and
alien to Western mothers.

Human Exploration Of Saturn s Satellite
In 2050, after over 50,000 people colonize Mars, Do Not Go Gentle, a private space company on
Earth is planning to have its first human exploration of Saturn s satellite, Titan. However, the
dangers of radiation and the length of the trip from Earth jeopardize the mission for the humans
on this mission to explore Titan. The mission will be using robotic AI s and space ship that uses
ion thrusters for propulsion. One of the topics that will be talked about in the sci fi story of the
mission to Titan is radiation. In space, radiation is one of many problems humans face when they
travel beyond Earth s atmosphere. There are two types of radiation, ionizing and non ionizing
radiation. Ionizing radiation is the process by which particles could... Show more content on

These particles do the similar kind of damage as ionized radiation. [1] [2] There are two ways to
measure radiation, an US unit and a SI unit. The first unit used to measure radiation is radiation
absorbed dose (rad) and it is use mostly in United States. The more commonly used measuring
unit in the International Systems of Unit or SI is gray (Gy); 1 rad is equivalent to 0.01 Gy.
Gray is also equivalent to one Joules per kilogram; however, radiation is measured in mGy or 1
/1000 of a Gy when measuring absorption of a biological entity. [2] On Earth, the layers of
atmosphere shield us from most of the radiation that could ever reach us but not all radiation is
filtered like UV radiation. If there was no atmosphere, the high energy particles can rip through
the DNA s links and cause mutations (usually in the form of cancer). When a high energy
particle affects the DNA/RNA or molecules, it can rip apart links or chains in the DNA
/molecules. [3] The links that ripped apart a DNA can cause cancer and can affect chromosomes
in the process. This process eventually leads to death if the DNA/RNA or cell is unable to repair
the damage bonds. Exposure radiation can cause either an acute or chronic radiation poisoning. [3]
Acute radiation is simply one large exposure to radiation either from high energy/ionized or cosmic
rays. Instead of having one large exposure of radiation, chronic radiation is having small doses over
time, hence the Latin root

Random Acts Of Kindness, Altruistic And Prosocial Behavior
Comparison Matrix Paper Random acts of kindness, altruistic and prosocial behavior can
elaborate to being a hero. An elderly lady is standing in a grocery line fumbling through her bag
to find the change needed to complete her transaction, yet she ends up empty handed. A young
man behind here hesitates to ask if he could be of assistance, yet the heroic behavior would be to
give her the amount needed to complete the transaction, a prosocial behavior. Prosocial behavior
is any act performed with the goals of benefiting another person (Aronson, Wilson, Akert, 2010).
This comparison matrix paper will show the differences and similarities of the authors by
comparing their introductions, the purpose of each study, their research questions, the literature
reviews, the sample population, study limitations, results and conclusions, and suggested topics
for future studies. Franco, Blau, and Zimbardo (2011) offer a straightforward definition of
heroism as to act in a prosocial manner without a personal gain. They continue by explaining that
only a few can reach heroic status and must be equipped with the proper skills or luck. Whereas,
Harvey, Erdos, and Turnbull (2009) defines heroism in their article s introduction as a man or
woman of distinguished bravery, a person who is reverenced and put on a pedestal, or any famous
person. These researchers find differences in opinions as to the definition of heroism. Franco et al.
(2011) argues heroes work without capital gains; whereas,

Comparing World War Two and Vietnam Veterans Essay
Introduction: The last American soldier left Vietnam during the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975.
For 2.4 million who served in Vietnam, there was no official homecoming. In June of 2005,
Branson, Missouri held Operation Welcome Home for Vietnam Veterans. The parade and events
were planned to provide the celebration and recognition they did not receive 30 plus years earlier.
(Vietnam: Homecoming) The veterans were able to see the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall and
find the names of men they had known they had dies while serving. These veterans met with men
they had formerly served with. Although this event was only a fraction of the welcome the soldiers
truly deserved, many veterans were very appreciative of this. Branson gave me... Show more

Many are called terrible names, spit on, and generally discriminated. Maurice Robinson
commented on this time during a recent festival commemorating the Vietnam War. No respect
for what you did. Nobody wanted to talk to you or congratulate you sometimes not even your
family. So a lotta guys got rid of their uniforms, threw em in the closet and went on with their
lives. A lot of em are still trying to get their lives together today (Sherr 22). Veterans were not
thanked for their service and many are looked down upon by their participation in the Vietnam
War. This treatment had a huge impact of the Vietnam veterans and their families. Pervis Crowe
reflects upon this in Vietnam: Homecoming. If we d come home in different circumstances than
we did, my life wouldn t be the way it is now. Body: The scenes in New York City of soldiers
returning from World War II have been remembered for decades. The huge parades, the confetti
flying through the streets, and couples embracing were reflective of the gratitude the country
encompassed for soldiers returning from World War II (Crowe, Pervis et al.). The country as a
whole was very appreciative of the services of these soldiers. Laif Maseng, a World War II veteran
said that his return from World War II was not quite like the vibrant scenes in New York (Maseng)

Nuclear Power And Nuclear Energy Essay
When clean and renewable sources of energy are discussed, the focus is usually centered around
energy productions like solar and wind. But an important source of energy is often overlooked,
nuclear energy. The viability of nuclear power plants has been a topic of debate since their
inception, with many both for and against it. Many countries are broadly opposed to nuclear energy
with poor public opinion resulting in the decommissioning of nuclear powerplants in their country.
With the potential dangers of nuclear energy and the historical disasters that have accompanied it,
many are resistant to continuing its development. For my paper I will be addressing why even with
historical catastrophes, forgoing nuclear energy would be a mistake.
In comparing different forms of energy, a comparison must be made between nuclear and coal. It is
already widely known that the burning of coal in factories has a negative impact on the
environment and is one of, if not the most, destructive. But what is not widely known is that coal
plants emit more radiation into the environment than nuclear power plants. In fact, coal plants
release 100 times more radiation than nuclear power plants (Hvistendahl). This is because within
coal are trace amounts of the two radioactive elements uranium and thorium. When coal is burned it
produces fly ash, which concentrates the uranium and thorium at up to 10 times their original levels
(Hvistendahl).
But the negatives of coal don t need to be addressed

Abortion Is A Issue Of Abortion
Abortion is a very touchy subject in our society. In the U.S. it is legal to abort a fetus up until the
twenty fourth week. An abortion is the ending of a pregnancy before birth, which results in the
death of an embryo or a fetus. Many people consider abortion as cruel as murder. Although some
say abortion is in there own hands and is there own decision, others believe that no one but God
has the right to take someone else s life. People that support abortiondo not consider an unborn
fetus a person who must be protected under the law. Which makes an issue like abortion, difficult
in determining if it is right or wrong in someone s opinion. Supporters of abortion are also known
to be Pro Choice . Abortion has been around for thousands of years. The U.S. Supreme Court
Case; Roe vs. Wade in 1973 has made abortion legal in America. A pregnant single woman(Roe)
brought a class action challenging the constitutionality of the Texas criminal abortion laws, which
proscribe procuring or attempting an abortion except on medical advice for the purpose of saving
the mother s life. (caselaw.findlaw.com). The ruling was that fetus are not legal people, so they
have had no rights or protection under our constitution. A woman has a right to make decisions that
involve her own body. The government has respected a woman s right to privacy. A woman s
reproductive system should not be the subject on the table with the government arguing about it.
This reasoning was the premise for its

  • 2. Iran Provides No Freedom of Speech on the Internet Essay Introduction: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. The first amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America can often be taken for granted. In many third world countries, the idea of freedom of speech is in the back of people s minds, but almost never brought to the forefront of issues facing the country and government. In recent years, this has become especially evident in the Middle East. In the United States, we are shown a display of the harsh authoritative rule of governments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the rumble of revolution has been felt for many years in Iran. Until recently, this has never been a big problem for the government to stomp out because of its vast control over speech. It could easily shut down the printing of reformist newspapers and throw the journalists in jail. Now, the Internet has taken that little rumble and is quickly turning it into an earthquake. The control the government had over other outlets can t translate to the Internet because of its vastness and anonymous nature. The Internet is opening a door to let out the true feelings of the Iranian people, and the process cannot be reversed. Background: The spread of the Internet in Iran started almost the same as it did in the United States. Like in the 1960s and 1970s when only the Unites States Depart of Defense and certain academic institutions had these nodes in place, Iran only had certain nodes in academia when they first used the Internet in 19931. It definitely didn t stop there. Although Internet access in Iran is only at about 3%, it is showing one of the fastest rates of growth in the world. It is estimated that the number of users in on the Internet will have soared from 1.2 million in 2003 to 15 million in 20061. With such a rapid expansion of this online medium will come an increased opposition to the authoritative government. Already the struggle for democracy can be seen in Iran. Reformist web sites and publications are up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Evergreen Tree Research Paper It is a rule of nature that whenever an outside force threatens to destroy a body embedded in a community, that the members of that entrenched body will collaborate to exorcise that hostile opponent. In the same way, during times of outward peace, members of the same community will begin to oppose each other and order themselves by an individually reasoned likelihood of survival. Correspondingly, humans will often align themselves with others of similar political philosophy during times of international hostility but turn on themselves during times of international tranquility, forming intranational difficulty. This domestic destabilization, which may be incredibly minor or catastrophically important, will lead to the formation of factions.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Political parties and their exclusive philosophies have existed for as long as political conflict has been around and, since it is in the nature of politics to be controversial and, as aforestated, it is in the nature of humans to be politically inclined, that is to say, political factions have existed forever. American politics have remained nearly stagnant its amount of political parties, however, never pausing to appreciably and extensively recognize more than two. The Federalist and Antifederalists movements formed promptly at the start of the American Revolution. They continued onwards for a few years, constantly at odds, until the death of the Federalists after the War of 1812. The Antifederalists continued on, eventually remodeling themselves as the Democratic Republicans and then the Democrats. The Whig party rose to oppose them in the early 19th century but died out only a few decades later. Remnants of the Whigs, discontent Democrats, and contingents of small parties congealed to form the Republican party shortly afterward. The Republicans famously swelled in popularity briefly before the Civil War and continued to hold office for the next several decades after the war concluded. Power between the parties switched sides throughout the century afterwards switching from Democrats to Republicans to Democrats to Republicans (Horger, 2013). This tug of war temperament of the two parties are responsible for most of today s stormy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How To Infect Salmon At first when I started college, I was on the path to become a biologist. I wanted to get more experience in the field, so I asked my advisor, Doctor Amanda Gunn, if there was had any opportunities for me to get hands on experience in my field. She said she was studying Aeromonas Salmonicida, a bacterium that causes diseases in salmon. She wanted me to use bioinformatics tools to learn about its ability to infect salmon. The goal was to determine if certain aspects of the bacterium could be modified or genetically engineered so the salmon s immune system would be able to respond more efficiently. This lead me down the path of bioengineering, a field of study where genetic material is altered for certain characteristics. After completing the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I go to church on Saturday and while I am not out with my age group every week, I m with a people who are at least a decade older or younger than me. Some of these people don t get to talk people to people much so it s fun listening to their stories and fun having someone to listen to them. People like military members, outdoorsman, and engineers. I also heard about the experience of being homeless. Aberdeen gets very rainy and cold at night, so not having a place to stay is awful. The rain from that isn t drained gets all over the sidewalk and whoever has to walk there for just 10 minutes gets their shoes soggy and moist. Imagine walking around all day and sleeping all night in that! Being homeless also means it harder to afford find food. Hearing these stories from people I talked to every week made me want to do something about it. I ran for ASB of my high school and became the Senior Class President. I used my position to organize foodball, an event where two cities compete to raise the most resources for the Coastal Harvest. That is a food storage facility that donates to food banks across the State of Washington in times of emergency. The year I was running it the two cities competing were Hoquiam and Aberdeen. Even though the name was foodball, it wasn t just food we were collecting. It was also money to donate to and help raise resources for food banks, like socks, shoes, and shirts. I cleaned up after the events, dressed up as a mascot and danced to raise money for several events. I was even able to run an intercity dodgeball game. A game which Aberdeen won. Although Aberdeen didn t beat Hoquiam in the end, we managed to beat the amount of food raised last year. After foodball ended, I decided I wanted to do more. I became a deacon at my church and several times a month I help run the P.A., fix broken things around the church with my dad, and count and collect offering. While Aberdeen does have a punk flair to it, I feel it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Researchers have developed a new treatment that prevents irreversible vision loss brought on by end stage retinal disease. The new technique involves the use of stem cells that are grown in a lab. During trails, scientist s were able to grow new retinatissue and then transplant the tissue into the mice who had end stage retinal degeneration. During the study skin cells are taken from an adult mouse and converted with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). More than forty percent of the mice tested gained the ability to see light clearly. This was a new medical advancement for the science community as no one has ever before been successful in transplanting stem cells that have the ability to sense light. Retinal degeneration is extremely complex to treat until now. Cells need to have the ability to make connections with the host s nervous system and send signals to the brain. Regardless, many unsolved answers exist. Researchers are still trying to find a way to increase the number of connections between a degenerated retina and the transplant. This would allow the hosts to not only see light but large scale figures and movement. This is extremely important as retinal degeneration that affects approximately around 170 million people worldwide can led to total blindness. Nevertheless, this advancement comes with many unanswered questions. Researchers are concerned whether this treatment could actually be applied to humans as many risk factors exist. The experiments do not provide information on recovery time in humans nor how the transplanted retinas would respond to the same procedure. Moreover, Scientists contend whether human eyes have different environments from mice. The only way researchers could test human retinal transplants would be from human conducted trails which remain a controversial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Theme Of Choices In A Rose For Emily And Hills Like White... In life, everyone has choices that can determine their future. There are always two choices in life, one that will leave people not regretting their decision and another that will always make an individual second guess the choice they made. Choices do not just happen to real people they can also happen to characters in pieces of literature. In every story, short or long, the reader gets an understanding of the characters and the situation(s) they are in. In A Rose for Emilyand Hills like White Elephants the characters in these stories the characters make decisions that change their lives. The author conveys the theme of choices can take people s lives in different directions by using symbolism, imagery, and oppression of women. Faulkner, the author of A Rose for Emily uses symbolism through the entire story to help convey the theme. An example of symbolism would be Emily Garrison s house. The house is a very old pre civil war house which during the time Emily s father was alive it was a very nice and prestigious house. Her house helps the development of the theme by being a symbol for an older generation. Emily Garrison is stuck in the past and does not want to accept that times have changed and her house is a good representation of that. Her house never changes and it never does in the story because Emily makes the choiceto not go on with the times which helps allude to the theme. • 9. J.G. Ballard s Science Fiction Legacy Ballard along with many other new wave science fiction writers believed that science fiction should be taken seriously as a form of literature. In order to fulfill this belief the new wave science fiction writers began experimenting with language and their style of writing, creating cognitive estrangement , indicating a kind of alienation or de familiarization effect that they used to separate postmodern/new wave science fictionfrom traditional/pulp science fiction. Ballard, amongst many others, is considered one of the forefathers that helped develop the New wave movement to what we know of it today. Ballard was born in Shanghai in 1930, where he spent the first fifteen years of his profound life. At the age of sixteen, Ballard interned at a Japanese camp during World War II and, was deported to England. He attended Cambridge University and obtained his degree in medicine, and a few years later he sold his first story to New Worlds, a renowned science fiction magazine, in 1956. He is the author of numerous novels and short story collections, including Crash, Empire of the Sun and The Atrocity Exhibition. Ballard stepped into the realm of the new wave movement, early in his career with apocalyptic/post apocalyptic novels such as The Burning World (1964), The Crystal World (1966) and many others. Ballard was a writer who challenges easy categorization: even his most speculative books can t be fitted neatly with a genre label, and his more mainstream works contain ... On the other hand we could look at how Coca Cola compares to its competitors both direct and indirectly through the use of a perceptual map (See Appendix 1). It is clear that Coca Cola leads the competition in terms of quality and popularity with competition from both direct and indirect companies such as Pepsi who are their main competitors but indirect companies include Tropicana Innocent smoothies. • 15. The Leadership Of The Sandwich Company I. INTRODUCTION The modern leadership theories (hereafter, theories) recognise the importance of followers in the leadership process. These theories view leadership as an interaction between leaders and follower. They focus on the relationship between a leader and follower and view this relationship as the core to the success of any organisation. Kirsty s leadershipmay be seen as reflective of all the path goal theory, leader member exchange theory (hereafter, LMX theory) and the transformational leadership theory (hereafter, TLT). In this report a discussion will be provided of the ways in which Kirsty s leadership may be seen as reflective of all these theories and approaches to leadership. A critical analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of Kirsty s leadership for the Sandwich Company s (hereafter, company) will also be provided to highlight how these factors could interplay in the company s continued success. The success of the company illustrates that Kirsty effectively uses the guidance provided by each theory to inform her leadership practice. However, the company s internal and external environment is starting to change. Therefore, the potential weakness inherent in the theories associated with her leadership style could come to surface which may delimit the company s continued success. II. • 16. The Classroom and Learning a Second Language There is only one reason could be considered why learners decide to use L1 in the classroom. This is because the teacher s efforts encourage them to communicate in the target language. Harmer (2002) maintains that the second language users choose to use the mother tongue when there is no compatible with their L2 level. When the teacher does not create an environment for students to communicate naturally to use English, students may need to use L1 to communicate. If the teacher does not use the target languagetoo much so that students may feel free to use their mother tongue in the second languageclassroom. Thus, some different learning stylescan be implemented that enable students to use the target language much more easily. Learners and teachers of L2 used their L1 in classroom for few reasons which are proficiency level, for comprehension, affective factor and to express feelings and thoughts. 2.2.1 Proficiency level Learning a new language might be frustrating for students who have low proficiency level. Difficulties in producing sentences with correct use of grammar and appropriate choice of words is somewhat common amongst students whose ability to acquire an L2 is low. Thus, switching to L1 is the easiest way to overcome those problems. Bouangeune (2009) stated that L1 makes an important contribution to English teaching mostly in the area of vocabulary for students with a lower proficiency level. • 17. Saber The Hero s Journey In The Search, by Naguib Mahfouz, the protagonist, Saber, brings forth the question of what it means to be a genuine hero. After being thrust into a world of uncertainty, he sets off on a search to find his father. Yet, it is quickly apparent that Saber lacks the qualities to be a hero in the traditional sense. While Saber does experience a portion of expected heroic like events, he fails to be a typical herobecause of his inability to overcome his transgressions and maintain conventional heroic attributes. He does, however, partially make his amends as an anti hero. In Cairo, he finally places an advertisement for his father, though in perspective, it means the success of his search practically depends on his father seeing the advertisement and responding to it. Saber makes no further attempts to even narrow down his father s possible occupation or location. Positive impacts The diversity has always been a concern for businesses and governments because the minority can feel sometimes left out and excluded for the employment sector. Therefore it has always been a priority for any government. They want to prove that they have been elected and are representing the entire population not just a group of people. Also businesses want to send a good image to their customers that they care about everyone even the minority. First of all, Kirton and Greene (2005) said that every company has the legal obligation to promote diversity in the organisation in order to avoid social injustice within the workplace and reduce disadvantages experienced by some minorities or social group. An organisation that promotes diversity shows their employees that they don t have to worry about their ethnicity or cultural background in order for them to progress in that company. Only relevant things like competency and the knowledge of the work matter the most. (Bryan, 1999) According to Triandis (1994), managing a diverse workforce means that the company had to change their old ways of doing things and adjust to a new way because that organisation needed to do more research and analysis in order to find the right way or procedure that works best for everyone. Leach, George and LaBelle (1995) have used to word working with diversity instead of using the usual word managing . According to them, the word working sounds much better because it is a way of showing respect to the diverse workforce instead of using the term managing which sounds a bit pejorative. They believed so because when someone says managing, it is like they are describing a sub group within that organisation. Therefore, the company or organisation that promotes diversity need to be very patient in order to observe and learn how to promote diversity in their workplace. After many examinations, Finney (1989) believed that companies did use diversity in their workplace environment not only because they law required them to do so but also because they did what was right for them in term of success, growth and also to satisfy the demand of their ... Under the second group was the tongs, cutters and chisels, as well as hammers and anvils. In the third group was the shoeing box (which contains knives, rasps, and files) to make horses feet and horse shoes. They made items by first softening the metal over a flame. The Impact Of Prescription Drugs On The Health Sector A substantial piece of the U.S market in the health sector is run by the prescription drugs and, therefore, making the U.S the global largest market of pharmaceuticals accounting for more than a third of the world s expenditure on drugs. It is estimated that in 2014 slightly over $300 billion were spent on prescription drugswhich accounts for roughly 10 cents of every dollar in the U.S healthcare market. The U.S expenditure on prescription drugs has been growing at an annual rate of 11% for the last 27 years between 1980 and 2007. But the expenditure has slowed between 2008 and 2013 to about 2% annual average which has been occasioned by several reasons including the 2008 financial quagmire which was also responsible for the reduction in the overall U.S health care costs, the application of controls towards insurer drug utilization and also the production of a less amount of new blockbuster drugs within that period (Institute for Healthcare Informatics, 2014).. The slow growth in the prescription market could also be attributed to the rising increased utilization of cheap generic drugs with patents for the best selling drugs also being outdated. According to the Centers for Medicare Medicaid services, the year 2014 witnessed a prescription drug spending increase of over 12 percent that was partly due to an increase in the use of specialty drugs. History Of The Periodic Table Of Elements Leonardo Miranda Mr. Tagami Chemistry 10/24/14 History of the Periodic Table of Elements The construction of the Periodic Table of Elements was prior to the discovery of the individual elements. Elements such as silver, gold, tin, copper, lead and mercury have been known for centuries. In 1649, the first scientific discovery of an element was made by Hennig Brand when he discovered phosphorous. Prior to Brand s discovery, chemists had acquired an immense body of understanding concerning the properties of elements and their compounds for the next 200 years. By the year 1869, a collection of 63 elements had been revealed. As the number of known elements increased, scientists began to notice patterns in properties and formulate classification schemes. In 1862, a French geologist, A.E.Beguyer de Chancourtois, recorded a list of the elements on a cylinder regarding their individual atomic weights. He was the first to identify that elemental properties reoccur every seven elements. There has been some deviation on who deserves credit for being the father of the periodic table, either the German Lothar Meyer or the Russian Dmitri Mendeleev. Both chemists shockingly produced similar results during the same time period working individually. Meyer s 1864 textbook included a shortened version of the periodic table, which contained about half of the known elements ordered by their atomic weight and valence charges. Every year precautions are taken to help minimize damages that are caused by the flooding. There are four main reasons that contribute to the river flooding so often. The first reason that contributes to the river flooding so often is the ice melting in the spring. During the melting of the glaciers, Lake Agassiz became a lake of its own and the lake s fine claylike silt that has accumulated on the bottom is the reason for the fertility of the valleys in the Red River. Many people often ask what can be done to fix the problems of the flooding. The reality of the situation is that these floods are going to continue to happen until the Red River establishes itself in its area. The river is not done carving its path yet. Many geologists believe that it was an unwise decision to build a city, like Fargo, that is so close to the river where it is known to produce massive floods and create major problems. The property and lands in Fargo are going to continue to receive damage due to the floods. The river flows across unconsolidated, fine grain sediments which causes the river to meander. The results of the meandering are wider river edges due to the water washing away the land near the shores. Until the Red river establishes itself, it is going to cut a bigger and wider path which will result in more land and homes being destroyed. The blow shakes the brain inside the skull, which temporarily disrupts the brain from functioning normally. Reports and studies have surfaced shedding light on just how much damage is inflicted upon the brain due to crippling hits. These studies suggest that NFL athletes who received concussions suffered lasting damage to the brain, which opens the gate to a multitude of other health issues such as dementia, Alzheimer s disease, and clinical depression . Football is a violent and fast sport in which many injuries cannot be avoided. When proper technique is used on a tackle the shoulder proceeds down and the head remains up. However the upperbody of the runner goes down, and the head is lowered, which is the body natural response when anticipating an impact. Reaching the top is like a victory over the mountain. No one can consider every element of nature. But Nature shows its dominance in the face of human error and arrogance. In the Book Into thin air many of the characters display pride and arrogance in their abilities to tame nature and climb Mt. Everest. The expedition guides show arrogance and pride while trying to climb Mount Everest. At one point Scott Fischer states that he has built a yellow brick road to the summit (Krakauer 86). Samuel attended his father s school until the age of 8, but after his father passed away in 1781, he attended Christ s Hospital School in London where he remained throughout his childhood studying and writing poetry. Starting off Coleridge s early work was predictable, but before long he began writing in a more natural style. Another great influence to his writing was his friend William Wordsworth, who he met in 1795. From 1797 to 1798 he lived close to Wordsworth in Somersetshire, and the two men worked together on a joint volume of poetry called Lyrical Ballads. The collection that they did is considered the first great work of the Romantic school of poetry and contains Coleridge s famous poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is the longest major poem by Coleridge. It was written between 1797 1798 and published in 1798 in the first edition of Lyrical Ballads. McIntyre s framework is a method of conducting in depth analysis that emphasizes understanding issues in healthcare as complicated and multifactorial problems, while exploring barriers to resolving the issue (McIntyre McDonald, 2014, p. 5). Using this framework, this paper will provide an in depth analysis of the issue of mandatory overtime for nurses, and why it should not be eliminated from use by hospital management. Situating the Topic Working overtime is a prevalent practice among nurses that hospital management uses to deal with staff shortages. According to Manitoba Nurses Union (MNU), 34% of Manitoba nurses reported working overtime (2014, p. 4). Most overtime worked by nurses in Manitoba is voluntary, however, it is legal to mandate nurses to work overtime if required. Three in 10 overtime shifts worked by nurses in Manitoba are involuntary (MNU, 2010, p. 6). MNU defines mandatory overtime as a situation in which the nurse refuses the offered overtime and the employer orders the nurse to continue working after their assigned shift has ended (p. 7). Mandatory overtime is seen as an absolute, last possible resort for hospital managers, after all other options and possibilities have been exhausted (MNU, p. 6). If the nurse being offered overtime determines they are too exhausted to provide safe, competent, and compassionate care, the nurse may refuse to work the mandatory overtime (College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba [CRNM], 2002, p. 1). The Civil War was a war between the North and the South of the United States. During this war, there were around 620,000 men that were killed. This war ended after Confederate general Edmund Kirby Smith surrendered his troops. At this point the fighting had ceased, however, the tensions between the North and the South were still present. This time period after the Civil War where these questions were answered is known as The Reconstruction and lasted from 1863 1877. During this time period, President Lincoln was murdered and President Johnson was impeached. Congress also made major additions to the Constitution that they thought would bring equality to the South. However, in order to understand why immigrationhas become a foreign policy hot topic, we must understand the history of immigration. Since the initial settlers arrived in North America, immigration has filled the American experience. Undeniably, many of the principles that unite Americans as a nation are tied to immigration. Historically, immigration has not only outlined our visualization of the United States role around the world, but immigration has also trickled into our interpretation of human nature. Even though the term itself only became part of our understanding in 2011 thanks to the very controversial book, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, by Amy Chua, there were always questions of how much discipline is healthy and necessary for a child. In Chua s book, she contrasts the two sides of parenting styles: what she calls Chinese parenting and Western parenting. When Chua s book came out, the media received it with horror. Chua was called a horrible monster , the worst mom in the world , and many other unflattering names.. Chua shocked much of America with her seemingly brutal parenting: many people were flabbergasted by the idea that a parent wouldn t let their child attend a sleepover, or make them practice 4 hours of violin a day, or threaten to burn their dolls if they didn t listen. The tiger mother had exploded onto the scene, and the onlookers were horrified by the carnage they saw behind her. How could a mother be so tyrannical and abusive? Some even called for Chua s arrest for child abuse.
