Dr. Martin Luther King’s Funeral and Assassination Essay
Dr. Martin Luther King s Funeral and Assassination
Word spread like wildfire when the news of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. s assassination hit the public.
As the leading civil rights activist in the 1960s, Martin Luther King Jr. preached words of peace and
understanding among races. A well known name throughout the North and South, King gained
extreme popularity within the African American community. When Martin Luther King Jr. was
assassinated a wave of sorrow spread across the nation. With rage, sadness, and hopelessness in the
public eye, clearly the assassination hurt more than just one man, it hurt a nation.

Screaming Brothers, Unite! in the crowd, many African Americans chaotically trashed the
community to physically represent their sadness and anger regarding the assassination (Johnson 2).
Five days after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., a funeral in Atlanta, Georgia preceded (
Abernathy 33). Dr. King s funeral spearheaded with the rites and services, and then continued with
a march from the streets of downtown Atlanta to the campus of Morehouse College ( Abernathy
33). With 740 city policemen and 100 firemen [guarding] the route of the march, and several
thousand National Guardsmen the march, surprisingly, ended peacefully and safely ( Abernathy
33). As an influential leader lost, plans to handle crowds of 50,000 or more people were being
hurriedly pulled together (Ripley, 50,000 1). The public funeral, at Morehouse College, hosted
thousands of people from all over the nation. Standing along side the King family, these thousands
of people mourned with the family in remembrance.
After the funeral, analysts talked frequently of the estimated number of people in attendance at the
funeral. The estimated range varied from 20,000 to 60,000 people (Ripley, 50,000 1). With a
40,000 person gap, it is interesting to note the large estimate difference. How is it possible to obtain
such a huge discrepancy? With definite differences in opinion, actual visual experience, and

Mistakes are an essential part of learning languages, there s no way that you can reach fluency
without making lots and lots of mistakes.
The purpose of making mistakes it to learn from them. An excellent strategy is to learn your lesson
as quickly as possible and move on, better and stronger than you were before.
If your experience of learning a language is filled with stressful emotions you re much more likely
to give up.
Always remember that mistakes are the gateway to improvement and are essential to our
development. Without mistakes your progress will stall.
One of the biggest mistakes you can make with vocabulary is failing to choose the right words for

OF and FROM are two of the most common prepositions in English. They are used in a wide
variety of situations, but are also often confused.
Many English learners have difficulties understanding the difference between of and from in

Finishing Hardwood Floors
Hardwood floor can be finished using high power sanding machines, although some handwork
may be necessary in places that on which a sanding machine will not fit, or near corners. Before
starting the finishing process, the hardwood surface should be free of dirt and all nails must be
carefully driven so they are not protruding in the floor or the baseboard. Depending on the
hardwood flooringsurface, sometimes with two sanding cuts, you will get a nice finish whatsoever,
if the floor is uneven, then three sanding cuts will be needed.
Hardwood Flooring Sanding Machines
There are two main types of sanding machines: drum or disk type. Drum sanders have the sandpaper
mounted on a drum that rotates parallel to the plane of the floor, scratching in straight lines in the
direction of the sanding machine. On the other hand, disk sanders are the ones in which the
sandpaper rotates in a circle in the plane of the floor. There are different tools that will facilitate
sanding hardwood floor near the edges of the floor and next to the baseboard.
Choosing the right sandpaper is a very important thing to do, because coarse grits will scratch the
hardwood leaving some marks that will be noticeable. Fine grits are better when you want to have
the best finishing on a hardwood flooring, although it will require additional work. For better
results, start by using the coarse sandpaper, to level the floor and continue to polish the surface
using finer sandpaper.

Diversity In New York City Essay
The busy streets of New York City, filled with skyscrapers and food carts is the city that I grew up
in. As an immigrant, New York City is one of the greatest cities to live and grow in. From it s
unlimited opportunities to the multicultural population, it has created a whole new society
consisted of integration amongst different people.
One aspect that makes New York Cityexciting to me is the diversity of the people. I came to the
United States as an immigrant and residing in New York Citymakes me feel as if I was home. I
believe that s how many immigrants feel when they move to New York City. The reason for the
comfort is the fact that there are people just like them, in culture and in similar situations. As
more immigrants reside in New York City, there is a greater mix of people that allows diversity
to occur. When I lived in Chinatown, everyone spoke chinese which made me feel at home.

Mexican food, from Japanese food to Italian food. Everything is located in the city and it takes
just minutes to get from one cuisine to the next. With different foods from different culture, it
allows people to gain a different perspective on food. To continue, due to the diversity in food,
there has been emergence of new foods, foods that combines different cultures. For example,
sushi burger became a hit when it was first created. This food, is a mix of Japanese and American
cuisine. Another example is the Mac and Cheese Spring Roll. This is a fusion of classic Chinese
and American food. This shows how new food creations have emerged because they combine
elements from different cultures. Diversity is a factor to this phenomenon and it is also what

Interpersonal Communication In The Case Of Dave Crainer
Communication is a crucial aspect of our everyday life. Today many of us people still lack on the
ability to communicate effectively within interpersonal relationships. Thru collaboration and
teamwork that effective communication occurs. To acquire great interpersonal relationship one
must first interact with others, which is called interpersonal communication. To build this
relationship we have first understand each other emotions. For example workers and cell leader
should always know their audience. Employers should have all the tools necessaries to get their
message across from meeting, email, office bulletin board. No matter how they chose to get the
message across effective communication is important.

Conclusion and Suggestions to Remedy Issues Caused by Poor Nutrition
Abstract
We are a group of students at California State University of Northridge who found common interest
in the topic of child nutrition. By applying the core functions of public health, we were able to
analyze how poor child nutrition led to more serious problems such as chronic diseases and obesity.
We found out that there is plenty of data that proves obesity is caused by poor nutrition and
ultimately has led to poor health. As our group researched on the topic and related it to public
health, we have concluded that there is a relation between child nutrition and obesity. Solutions for
the problem of obesity are suggested to conclude the essay. It is important to understand that
nutrition and health are always closely related, and that child nutrition should especially be
monitored closely as children are the future of our homes, communities, and the nation.
Child Nutrition
Good nutrition is important for everyone in every age group. It is an essential part of leading a
healthy lifestyle, not only physically but also mentally. In public health, child nutrition is especially
emphasized for multiple reasons. First, children are

Annotated Bibliography On Cryptography And Presence Of...
Cryptography
The practice and study in securing communication between parties in presence of potential
adversaries. A cryptographic algorithm or cipher is a mathematical function used in a plaintext in
the encryption and decryption process. A cryptographic algorithm works in combination with a key
(number, word, or phrase) to encrypt the plaintext. The same plaintext also encrypts to different
cipher text with the use of different keys. The core of modern cryptography is the construction and
analyzation of protocols of various aspects in information security such as data integrity and
confidentiality, authentication, and non repudiation.
Modern practice of cryptography involves cryptographic method.
First cryptographic method is the Symmetric Key Algorithm also known as Secret key
Cryptography. The symmetry of algorithm comes from both parties involved sharing the same key
for both data encryption and decryption. It works like a physical door where anyone who has the
right locking and unlocking uses a copy of the same key. Symmetric key Algorithm works by taking
the message and combining it with a shared key that inputs the algorithm then outputs a ciphered
message.
Two ways of symmetric key algorithm encryption involve block ciphers and stream ciphers.
Stream cipher is a symmetric key cipher where plaintext digits are combined with a pseudorandom
cipher digit stream (keystream). In astream cipher each plaintext digit is encrypted one at a time

Homer s Timeless Truths
Is Homer s The Iliad relevant to today s society? Is this work a timeless parable depicting universal
human truths transcending time and context or merely a superbly crafted epic poem to be studied
and admired for its stylistic brilliance? Has the text endured simply because of Homer s dramatic
verse or because of the timeless human truths it conveys? Was it written to persuade readers to
question the moral implications and savagery of war or simply to provide provocative
entertainment? These questions have been posed for centuries yet rarely have been sufficiently
answered. However, an astute student of contemporary politics, media, and entertainment ... Show

The arrogant, manipulative gods pulling strings from their plush thrones on Mount Olympus bring
to mind modern day politicians. They can be seen as archetypes of today s detached bureaucrats.
Zeus and his fellow gods dispassionately toy with mortals, watching with amusement as they cut
one another down on the blood soaked battlefield of windy Troy. Shamelessly, like merciless
puppeteers, they create tension between the mortals for their own personal entertainment, with little
regard for the inevitable mayhem and carnage that ensues. Indeed, the ten year conflict at Troy is
indirectly sparked by the vain goddess Aphrodite s desire to be recognized as the fairest beauty
among the goddesses, yet as soon as the fighting begins, she pleads neutrality. Similarly, Zeus
himself shows little concern for the rampant slaughter among mortals taking place on his watch,
even though initially he aids Achilles in his revenge against the Greeks. More than a few critics of
the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have decried the dispassionate way in which U.S.
chickenhawk non combatants such as George Bush, Dick Cheney, and now Barack Obama have
heartlessly made strategic military decisions from the safe environs of the White House that have

Cultural Issues Created by the Prohibition Era.
While the prohibition movement of the early twentieth century was brought on with a wholesome
and moral mindset, the economic, political, and cultural factors relating to its origins and
enactment untimely doomed it for failure. Such groups as the Women s Christian Temperance
Union and the progressive party argued that drinking was the cause of political corruption, crime,
bad labor conditions, and a declining sense of family values. These groups protests and rallies
gained enormous support quickly for a constitution amendment as early as 1913 with the Jubilee
Convention. Before the Eighteenth Amendment officially declared the U.S as a dry country,
prohibition was already in effect in a majority of states and counties. By the time the amendment
took effect in January of 1920, three of every four Americans lived in a dry county; and due to the
enactment of the Webb Kenyon Act of 1913 outlawing the shipment of alcohol into dry states, the
amendment caused little change in the lives of many Americans. Many hoped that prohibition
would be the moral reform that would regenerate society; however, it resulted in more corruption
and organized crime. Unperceived economic factors relating to bootlegging, taxes, and police
enforcement heavily contributed to the demise of the prohibition era. As soon as the eighteenth
amendment took effect a ring of bootlegging and organized gangs emerged. In addition to many of
these bootleggers brewing their own moonshine to sell, several

What Are Jean Toomer s Struggles
1920 s Struggles
During the Harlem Renaissance there were many inspirational authors, poets, and artistic
influences in the African American culture, along with women s rights. Two of which are Jean
Toomer, who wrote Georgia Dusk and Amy Lowell who wrote, New Heaven s for Old. Georgia
Dusk portrays the lives of African Americans from an inside perspective that allows readers to
grasp onto what it was like to live with racism and diversity during that time period. While at the
same time Amy Lowell is describing her life as a women with no rights but those in the house, both
views inflict upon the idea of being unvaluable and underappreciated for being the race or gender
that they are. Jean Toomer was born in Washington, D.C., and lived from 1894 1967. While
growing up with his grandfather, Toomer never really knew his father. His grandfather had been an
important Louisiana politician during the Reconstruction era, and his mother. After high school

The National Health Service Within The United Kingdom
Introduction to the Organisation The National Health Service within the United Kingdom refers
to the publically funded body with a variety of healthcare related statutory responsibilities. This
covers numerous individual services around the country, all of which must be able to provide a
level of service both emergency and non emergency to the public. The NHS was formed in 1948
after a series of public welfare reforms, and has evolved into the multi billion pound organisation
that millions of individuals rely upon today. As an organisation within the public sector, the
performance of the NHS is often heavily scrutinised by the media and general public, as the
body is funded by taxpayer s money. The services offered by the organisation are also of extreme
importance in regards to public health, and as such, it is crucial that such an organisation has an
effective business continuity plan in order to maintain these services to the highest possible level
in front of unexpected disasters or failures. Legal Duties There are a number of legal
responsibilities placed upon the NHS in regards to business continuity and unexpected events. The
Civil Contingencies Act 2004 places a legal requirement on all Category 1 Responders to have
Business Continuity Plans in place to ensure that the emergency element of the service can still be
run to an acceptable level regardless of disruption. The BS NHS 25999 Business Continuity

The Glorious Mansa Musa Essay
Mansa Musa, the venerable emperor of Mali, famous throughout Africa, revered by his people,
was a true renaissance man. Why has history forgotten such a man when it has remembered
Julius Caesar, Henry VIII or Napoleon, but not this man? It is because small minded white men
only respect other white men, they see all others as inferior. The white dominance of history is
obvious when only recently are Asians being recognized, only recently people have heard of
men like Genghis Khan or Confucius. Yet Africans have also had great people who need to be

intelligent, but not aloof.
Mansa Musa had a vision of making Timbuktu the educational center of Africa. While on his hajj he

Musa s patronage the University of Sankore became one of the finest universities of the time. The
university unlike European universities at the time had no central administration or required

Using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing ( Ofdm )
Abstract multiple carriers are simultaneously modulated using Orthogonal frequency division
multiplexing (OFDM) which is a transmission technique. Since the OFDM based system has high
spectral efficiency and is robust against intersymbol interference and frequency selective fading
channels. The major problem of this system is high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of
transmitted signal which causes distortion of signal.
At the Receiver, to reduce PAPR in removing weight with no distortion PAPR reducing scheme
which is based on a weighted OFDM signal is proposed. In this scheme, on each discrete OFDM
signal through a certain kind of a signal which is band limited a weight is imposed. before a high
power amplifier (HPA), an OFDM signal which is formed with the weighted discrete data is then
considered, at the receiver side the original signal can be collected completely.
Meanwhile, to transmit the weighted OFDM signal the required time duration is same as the
original OFDM signal s time duration. Computer simulations will evaluate the effectiveness of the
scheme which is proposed now. From the numerical results it is observed that , the weighted
OFDM signal has bit error rate (BER) performance that is improved when compared with the C F
method and has PAPR smaller than the clipping and filtering (C F) method. Here, the proposed
method is simpler than the clipping and Filtering method. Keywords: Bit error rate, Convolution,

Pros And Cons Of School Uniforms In Public Schools
Many public schools around the world have always given children diversity within the educational
environment. School administrators are able to achieve this goal by allowing students the ability to
freely express themselves. Until recent years, public schools and administrators have noted an
astonishing difference in behavior and academic performance. This success is due to the use of
school uniforms mandated in public schools. Unfortunately, most school districts follow certain
policies that restrict students from choosing their own form of dress. This restriction may contain
unintentional negative effects that may emotionally harm the children and interfere with their true
self. School uniforms follow strict policies that should not be mandatory in public schools because
they are a violation of student s human rightsthat deny these children the right to self expression
and individuality.
When school uniforms are mandatory they are unjustly forced upon a student denying them a sense
of self expression. Most children enjoy wearing clothing that they like and clothing that represents
who they are becoming as an individual. Although, when uniforms are mandatory students are not
permitted to wear the style of clothing that they enjoy. This could include clothing that represents
the children as a person such as graphics, symbols, lettering and phrases. When students are given a
mandatory dress code, they are ripped of their human right of self expression. One important factor

The Human Development Index Is a Better Measure of...
I will advance the thesis that the Human Development Index (HDI) is a better measure of
economic performance than the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita. By saying that the HDI
is a better system to measure economic performance, I mean that because the HDI highlights the
trend between longevity, education and economic growth, it calculates a better analysis of an
economy (Costa, Steckel 1997, p. 71). In contrast, the GDP per capita only accounts for the gross
domestic productwithout paying any attention to other factors of an economy (Hawthorn, Sen

performance because it considers significant factors that play large roles in an... Show more content

why it is imperative to consider education when calculating the development and performance of

part of competing against other economies in the international arena. To be more specific, when
a population is able to adapt new technology and idea they increase their speed of production,
which, in turn, increases their output, which means, in simple terms, new technology and ideas
increase an economy s growth because it allows them to produce more, faster and trade more,
faster. This is best explained in Invest in Humans, Technological Diffusion, and Economic
Growth that says, the better educated farmer is quicker to adopt profitable new processes and
products since, for him, the expected payoff from innovation is likely to be greater and the risk
likely to be smaller; for he is better able to discriminate between promising and unpromising ideas,
and hence les likely to make mistakes (Nelson, Phelps 1966, p.70) , while the less educated farmer
is prudent to delay the introduction of new technology until he has concrete evidence of its
profitability, which is often from his

One strategy is privatization, and it is intended to encourage governments in low income countries
to lease their public water operation over to private corporations. Most of these companies are
large global conglomerates with no previous involvement in the country where they would
operate. A series of P3 contracts for water utilities have been established in many developing
countries. For instance in Cancun, Mexico, concessions were awarded to private foreign water
operators. In 1991, prior to the P3 arrangement, the public water supply was limited to serving six
million people. After the implementation of the partnership, the private operators were able to
increase water services to ninety three million by 2000 (Marin, 2009).
Overview of Cochabamba and the P3 Water Agreement
Cochabamba is a city located in a valley at the foothills of the Andean mountain range, 8,000 feet
high, in the country of Bolivia. In 1950, Cochabamba s population was 75,000, and it topped
500,000 in 2001. Given limited annual rainfall, compounded by increased population growth, in
2001 the community faced significant water challenges (Shultz, 2008). In addition, Cochabamba
was faced with a high level of poverty among residents, and a government that was continually
going into debt (Forero, 2005).
Outside of their control, Bolivia was forced to deal with climate

Reflection Of A Community Service
The aim of this essay is to reflect on my learning and development primarily during the process of
the community service that I have done with my team at St. Barnabas home, Klang. I will also be
writing on the importance my experiences, evaluating my own development and examine the issues
encountered before, during and after October 22nd. Besides, I will be highlighting on my learning
styles, role as the Vice Organizing Chairperson in my team and how have I improved as an
individual after this community service project.
Reflection
By the end of this service, I learned that my team and I are mostly action orientated people.
According to the Belbin s nine team roles model, I am a mixture of the shapers and
implementers. I could not decide on which role do I fall the most because throughout this journey,
I have been dynamically stimulating my team to give our best and training them to be both
disciplined and organized (Enciso, 2012), when carrying out our individual duties. For an
example, I encouraged my team to bring in more volunteers from their circles of friends and
families so that we would have more helping hands to serve the children at the home. Besides, I
also made sure that every meeting minutes are clearly typed and printed out ... Show more content

stressful workload on the editing part to my team members. However, I am still unsure of what
are my blind and unknown areas. I am still working on being a more critical and reflective person

Irony In The Importance Of Being Earnest
Many dramas are told in a specific way in order to make a point. Being written as a comedy, The
Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde adheres the idea that drama should never teach but
only entertain. The play ridicules the two protagonists Algernon Moncrieff and John Worthing who
carry a double life. They liein order to have everything they want, and also to be able to conquer the
women they love. John with his desire to marry Gwendolen Fairfax faces the difficulty of
achieving her mother s consent, and most important has to deal with the trouble his lies has caused.
Same situation applies to Algernon who wants to marry Cecily Cardew, and who faces the
difficulty of confronting the truth about who he really is. The play is mostly amusing... Show more

The Importance of Being Earnest as being the title of the play, literally can mean the importance
of being honest and sincere. As john has been telling that he has a younger brother of the name

him. Although what he doesn t expect to discover in the end that his real true name is really

Behavioral Adaptations In Die Hard Series By John Mcclane
Behavioral Adaptations is the term for when an animal adjusts to environmental stress (Hess).
This can be related to the entire Die Hard series, where John McClane is thrown into several
stressful situations he had not faced before. Humans are probably one of the best at adapting to
obstacles due to our advanced problem solving skills. John shows this by figuring out a new way
to deal with the situations he s thrown into and overcoming all the obstacles. Petroleum and
Natural Gas are created with the accumulation of organic material is sedimentary deposits(Hess).

Ethics Of Volkswagen Case Study
With billions of dollars invested and hundreds of thousands of Americans employed (Department of
Commerce, n.d.), the automobile industry has a vast influence in the United States. Since the time
Henry Ford developed the assembly line production (Statista, n.d.) the industry has grown into a
global market with no signs of slowing down. Top car companies are constantly searching for new
innovations to set them apart from their competitors. Among those companies is Volkswagen(VW).
A company which strides in emissions and fuel efficiency turned, not only to be false, but caused a
severe amount of damage (Ewing, 2016).
Volkswagen s Background Volkswagen is a German based company started in 1937 and owns a
range of subsidiaries including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, it took nearly six years for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to finally
discover the company s scheme; possibly creating a false believe that the company could continue
to get away with it. Lastly, VW seemed to be obsessed with surpassing Toyota and becoming the
world s biggest car company (A Mucky Scandal, 2015), apparently determined to do whatever it
took to accomplish that.
The Impact on VW It is not hard to see that the scandal would cause a horrid blow to VW s image.
Until the incident, VW had, like many other German companies, the reputation of German
engineering (Robertson, 2013). However, instead of using that innovation to develop diesel fueled
cars compliant with U.S. standards, it decided to try to scam its way in the market. Not only did
the company admit to having 11 million cars with software intended to cheat tests (Gates, Ewing,
Russell Watkins, 2017), it also plead guilty to destroying evidence in an elaborate cover up (VW
Admits Emissions Cheating and Cover up, 2017); building further distrust among its consumers.
Brand Equity One thing that can make or break a company is its brand equity. Brand equity is the
value that comes with the familiarity with a company s branding and the feelings consumers have
towards that brand (Brand Equity, n.d.). A company with strong brand equity usually gives
consumers a sense of reliability and value; causing a higher inclination to purchase its products. It

Parent Child Relationships In King Lear
At the core heart of King Lear, we get to see the relationship between father and child. The
double plot of King Lear consists of parallel stories of two hapless old fathers and of their
children. Regan and Goneril speaks eloquently about the vastness of the love that they hold for
their father, though they are speaking falsely, each attempting to appear the most loving and as a
result they gain more territory. On the other hand Cordelia refuses to stoop to such pandering
stating instead she shows her love through her deeds and which does not possess the oily, flattering
ways of her sisters. The major characters involved in parent/child relationships in King Learare King
Lear and his three daughters, Regan, Goneril, and Cordelia (the true and the faithful one), and the
other Gloucester and his two sons, Edgar (the legitimate son) and Edmund(the illegitimate son). The

To what extent is humanitarian intervention an abandoned...
To what extent is Humanitarian Intervention an abandoned project?
Humanitarian Intervention is military intervention that is carried out in pursuit of humanitarian
rather than strategic objectives. This term is controversial and therefore often debated, as it is an
evaluative and subjective term. The common use of the term itself is the desire to come in help to
other people, however according to some other opinions, it is the outcome of the intervention that
defines it. Firstly, it is essential to define what is meant by the word abandoned in this context. As
HI has been happening throughout history, abandoned would imply an on going lack or
diminishing numbers of interventions.
In humanitarianism, the most relevant key concept is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The efficiency of humanitarian intervention is normative because of people having different
views on the output and the unlikeliness of every one being pleased by the new regime
therefore it is very hard to affirm the real results of the intervention. In 2011, a group of countries
intervened during the Libyan civil war, which lead to the abolition of Muammar Gadhafi s
regime. The Operation Unified Protector by NATO was partly successful because they achieved
to kill the dictator on 20th October, but partly ineffective because the standards of living in Libya
have not increased and the state is facing a lack of government s ruling. This case study supports
the statement that HI could be an abandoned project as it is not always favourable to everyone.
Despite the fact that there is some failures, some beneficial interventions still occur. More cases for
intervention emerge due to globalization, which implies that states have closer links to each other
and therefore the responsibility to help becomes stronger. As countries generally develop through
time, people are more educated and communication is more open, which is a factor that
governments cannot control. Thus people are here and now more educated and therefore have the
confidence to protest when they feel that their human rights are abused in their nation. Protesting
causes conflicts, that may become violent and therefore

My initial method was as follows:
Preparation:
First I made sure that I had prepared the equipment required and has checked to see if they were
all working and reliable, making sure not to have forgotten anything. Then I made sure to fully
protected my eyes and face by then putting some safety goggles on.
The next bit of preparation was to mark the cross on the piece of paper, I did this with a biro
which was the thinest pen I could find, this meant that the cross i drew was as accurate as possible.
I then boiled a kettle it make boiling water which i was going to put in the conical flask later on.
After that I started to make the concentration of the sodium thiosulfate by mixing it with the correct
volume of water in the measuring cylinder
The actual test:
All I had to do now was to add the concentration of sodium thiosulfate to the hydrochloric acid
At the exact same time as the above step happens I start the stopwatch.

Humanism In Renaissance
The late Middle Ages were a time of creative fragmentation and new synthesis. The Renaissance,
which take place between 1300 and 1700, was a time for education and experimentation. The
fifteenth century saw an unprecedented demand for quality education and art and scholarly
renaissance. Italian and northern humanists recovered classical knowledge and languages that set
education reforms and cultural changes in motion that spread throughout Europe in the fifteenth
and sixteenth centuries.
Humanism is defined differently depending on who you are asking. Some see the Renaissance as an
educational movement driven by a philosophy that stressed the dignity of humankind,
individualism, and secular values. Others say, humanists were actually the champions of Catholic
Christianity, opposing the pagan teaching of ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle and the
Scholasticism that poured out of his writings. But the most accurate definition is, humanism was a
neutral form of empirical minded historical scholarship adopted to promote political liberty and a
sense of civic responsibility. In simpler terms, it is the belief that all people have the ability to
contribute to the betterment of society.
Humanism influenced literature and poetry to flourish! The first humanists were orators and poets
who wrote original literature in both classical and vernacular languages. Humanism also created
jobs! Humanists were given the opportunity to teach rhetoric in the universities, and when they were

Female Priests And The Gender Inequality Within The...
Female priests and the gender inequality within the Catholic Church
From the rampant persecution of science and inquiry during the Age of Enlightenment, to the
condemnation of abortion and the use of contraceptives in the most HIV/AIDS ridden regions of
Africa today, the Catholic Church has nearly always been the thorn in the side of progressive ideas,
movements, organizations, and institutions. Today the Catholic Churchremains one of the largest
religious entities on the planet, with nineteen percent of the world s population and a half of all
Christians adhering to its religious doctrines ( Catholic Desires for Change ). Catholicism is unique
among Christian secs for its incredibly long history and staunch traditionalism. The church structure
has remained almost unchanged since the time of the Roman Empire, and its doctrines are slow
evolving at best. The Catholic Church only recently amended its stance on the heliocentric nature
of the solar system, when in nineteen ninety two Pope John Paul II exonerated Galileo Galilei s
crimes of heresy, three centuries after the man s death (Cowell, 1992). As many western institutions
begin to diversify their gender and ethnic makeup, the Catholic Church has remained almost devoid
of female participation in all positions of authority and significance. The Church s sedated
progressivism has never been more egregious than in the rapidly changing society of the last half
century, with the millennia old barriers of sexism rapidly

Increase in the Unemployment Rates in the U.K.
The UK s unemployment rate reached its highest peak in 2011 at just under 2.7 million during the
recent recession which economists are calling the Great Recession (BBC News, 2014). Since,
however the fall in the rate of unemployment has not been as sharp as many predicted, concerns
have been raised over whether unemployment levels in this single period may have a long lasting
effect. The issue of hysteresis within the UK and the persistence of unemployment is what this
paper will focus on, as well as the reasons why the youth unemployment rate is much higher. Using
the Demand deficient theory of unemployment, which is the Keynesian view of unemployment that

Another industry that has shown signs of employment growth during this hard time is the
accommodation and food services industry. Which, outside of London, has seen a 4.8% increase
in employment. This could be due to employees from other industries simply switching careers,
which opposes the view of this model that skills diminish or are not transferrable between sectors
of the economy (ONS, 2014). On the other hand this rise in employment could simply be due to
the UK s flexible labour market. Another industry that has experienced a downwards growth trend
is the mining and quarrying industry. There has been a dramatic reduction in growth, as between
the periods of early 2011 and the final quarter of 2013 the industry has been 35.2% below its pre
recession peak. However this industry decline has been slowly happening since 1999, this
consequently could be a contributing factor to the issue of hysteresis as this is the second largest
sub industry of total production within the UK (ONS, 2013). This fits within the assumptions of the
model of structural unemployment as the decline in the industry has clearly led to higher levels of
unemployment. The long term decline of such a large industry can often lead to long term
unemployment, such as we saw in the coal industry, which is a common cause of hysteresis.
However this alone cannot be blamed for hysteresis. Blanchard and Summers wrote about three
reasons for hysteresis and unemployment persistence, one more

The Possibility Of Birth Order
Most people have an intuitive knowledge that birth order somehow has an impact on
development, but they underestimate how far reaching and just how significant that impact is.
Birth order describes not only what order a child is born into a family but also has an effect on
an individual s personality, social skills, and success in life. If you are a first born child, does
that mean you are a perfectionist, tend to be a natural leader, and are more successful than your
younger siblings? Does being born last make you less able to compete in life? First born children
often possess personality traits such as being conscientious, very organized, and goal oriented which
causes them to be very successful in life. Often times,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When discussing first borns, Dr. Kevin Leman stated, The very traits and abilities that enable
you to succeed at work, at church, or in other organizations will often work against you in your
close personal relationships. Dr. Leman provided several examples of very successful men and
women whose marriages ended in divorce due to their high pressured drive to be successful in
life. Some of these individuals lost sight of the importance of family in their overly
perfectionistic drive to achieve their goals. In social situations, whether at work or at home, first
borns often have difficulty due in part to their perfectionism and need to overachieve. They tend
not to be able to accept constructive criticism as it implies they have flaws. At times, they try to
help people but due to their intense style, others see them as being bossy or overly controlling. In
general, firstborns subsequently have fewer friends and tend to be less popular than their younger
siblings. Seeing as only children are born first, they share many of the same personality traits as
first born children including being sensitive to criticism, strong willed, and ambitious. These
characteristics can be an annoyance at times, but in the end, they tend to aid them in being very
successful. As an example, Franklin D. Roosevelt, the only man elected president four times was

Social Causes Of The French Revolution
The French Revolution was an event that would rattle France s Bourbon monarchy and their
neighboring royal families of Europe. Stemming from multiple causes such as the lack of food and
other necessities, a growing social inequality in the face of the Enlightenment, and economic
decline, the French Revolution bred dissent, notably among the masses in Paris. At the height on
the Revolution, it became as much of a crusade against their fellow countrymen as it was against
their outside enemies. After seizing power, political factions consistently accused each other of
working against the Revolution, and royalist insurrections fueled the disarray.
Leading up to Revolution itself was the growing social inequality. With the centralization of the
French state due to the efforts of French kings such as Louis XIV, French common citizens found
themselves subjected to the will of a nobility that became increasingly hostile to any sort of
concessions. Many families were struggling to make ends meet while seeing those at the top of
society turn a blind eye. Warfare contributed to this as well, notably the Seven Years War in which
France lost much of it s New World territory and the American War of Independence after which
the French came away with little spoils, not nearly enough to make up for the money spent on the
war. With their country on the verge of economic collapse, French prices soared, forcing French

The Basilica Of The Assumption Of Our Lady Of Valencia
Art, the way that many cultures have expressed their ideals and culture through out time. Many
artists from multiple cultures have arisen and created masterpieces of art: Everything from
paintings, to massive architecture, and statues. The massive piece of art I will be focusing on
today will be the Basilica of the Assumption of our Lady of Valencia or The Valencia Cathedral for
short. This massive architecture shows a compelling example of Gothic art during this era.
The cathedral first came to be after the Christian s re conquered Valencia back from the Arab
communities, who had conquered it from the Spaniards in 723 C.E. While under the Moors
(Arab Empire) control the old church that stood there became a mosque. After the Spanish
acquired Valencia back, the bishop of Valencia ruled the mosque was to be replaced for a
Basilica. This was to strengthen the support for the Christian religion and to recruit more people
to the church. This effort was made to rekindle and bring piece of mind to the people in the region
who stayed while the Moors soldiers ruled. So in 1238 C.E. the Valencia Cathedral was born. As
gothic style of art swept Europe, the pope at the time decided to adopt this style of art. As the book
Art: A Brief History states, By the middle thirteenth century builders had thoroughly mastered the
design principles and building technology of Gothic architecture and began to focus attention on
elaborating and refining the visual elements of the style.

Characteristics Of The Horseshoe Crab
Introduction: Limulus polyphemus, the horseshoe crab, inhabits shallow brackish marine
environments ranging from the Atlantic Ocean along the North American coastline to the Gulf
coasts of the United states and from the East coast of Mexico to the Yucatan Peninsula (Walls,
Elizabeth). There are three other species of the horseshoe crab worldwide: Tachypleus tridentatus,
Tachypleus gigas, and Carconoscorpinus rotundicauda that closely resemble Limulus in structure
and habits, ranging from the Indian ocean to the Pacific Ocean along the coasts of Asia (National
Wildlife Federation).
The horseshoe crab is known to be one of the oldest living fossils ; which means that this organism
s morphology has essentially not changed from fossils found from earlier geologic times, around
250 million years ago (Noel Chartier). Based on the fact that the morphology has not changed in so
long it can be assumed that the horseshoe crab has not had to adapt to changing environments and
has been able to withstand a changing environment. Due to the statement regarding the oldest living
fossils, one can hypothesize that fossil records will show evidence that fossils of extinct creatures
look nearly identical to the creatures that are still living today (Noel Chartier).
If a person searched for horseshoe crabs in a shallow brackish marine environment and found a
living horseshoe crab and compared it to a fossil record of one, they would look almost identical to
each other. The outward

Racial Tension, Racial Tensions, And Dramatic Social Change
Turbulent times have engulfed the United States. Violent extremism, a stagnating economy, racial
tension, and dramatic social change have left Americans worried about the country s future.
Candidates from both major political parties pander to those concerns in hopes of ascending to the
presidency. None have capitalized on those anxieties more than Donald Trump. His promise to
restore the countries greatness is based on his ability to rid the country of its Alien problems.
Hearkening to a darker time, Trump has staked his presidential campaign on placing blame for
America s troubles at the feet of non Americans, specifically non white Americans. Reminiscent of
debate surrounding passage of the Chinese Exclusion Act, Trump s subtle use of racism to
galvanize support has threatened to set America back one hundred twenty five years and tear the
country apart.
Trump proposes radical change to standing immigration practice to relieve American anxieties.
During his announcement speech, he pointed the finger at Hispanic immigrants for much of
America s angst. Referring to them as criminals, Trump held non whites, from south of the U.S,
liable for what he claimed was America s decline. A few months later, in the name of national
security, he added Muslims to his list of those responsible for America s troubles.
Asserting the measure was necessary to keep Americans safe, Trump proposed a moratorium on all
Muslim immigration into the United States. In a written statement he

Good Faith Exception
Police officers, like the citizens they protect, can make mistakes. I do not believe that police
officers should be held liable for acting in good faith. According to the United States Supreme
Court, per Brinegar v. United States, because many situations which confront officers in the course
of executing their duties are more or less ambiguous, room must be allowed for some mistakes on
their part. But the mistakes must be those of reasonable men, acting on facts leading sensibly
leading to their conclusions of probability. (PoliceMag, 2007). The Fourth Amendment protects the
citizens of the United States from unreasonable searches and seizures. (U.S. Const. amend. IV).
Over the course of history, the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of protecting the policeofficers
from any liability. My focus will be on the good faith exception and the exigent circumstance.
The Good Faith Exception
First, the good faith exception protects law enforcement officers who had reasonable intentions, but
made mistakes with their actions. The Supreme Court first introduced the good faith exception in
United States v. Leon. The Court maintained that the exclusionary ruleis not relevant in situation
when police officers act with reasonable dependence on a search warrant that later proves to be
invalid. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Exigent circumstances refer to positions that require instant action that allows people to evade
usual procedures. There are times when a police officer can act to make an arrest, seizure, or
search for which probably cause exists. Exigent circumstances excuse noncompliance when: a
person s life is or public safety is threatened, suspect(s) escape is imminent, or evidence is about
to be removed or destroyed. (U.S.Legal, n.d.). Examples of these situations include: a robbery in
progress, sounds of shot being fired, or a homicide occurring at a scene of the

How The Events Of 1984 Have Made Them Who They Are
1984
Chris McCloskey
Hillsborough Community College
October 27, 2014
Abstract. In these questions I will analyze the characters while focusing on how the events in
1984 have made them who they are. I will also discuss the types of conditioning in the book and
give examples of the conditioning. Then I will talk about some of the laws or regulations in the
world today that I find to be not constitutional. Finally I will define progressicism, socialism,
communism and Marxism, and who founded them.
1. The characters in 1984 are trained to be collectivists because they stride for social harmony
and the satisfaction in life is based on the success of the group as a whole. An example of this is
everyone jobs is to make sure that Oceania succeeds against East Asia. (Orwell)
2. The all of the characters that have conformed have the same personalities, they are all obedient.
However Winston and Julia are rebellious and stray from the norm. I do not think they have
psychological disorder because a psychological disorder is someone who deviates from the norm
and those who are found to do so are executed.
3. In the society there is both operant and classical conditioning. One example of operant
conditioning is when the prisoners are hung out in front of all the people to see in the streets and
on the TVs. An example of the classical conditioning is in the beginning of the book they showed
the face of a trader and everyone

On average, subscribers purchased 19.9 CDs annually, mostly through Sonik s website. Annual
subscriber retention rate was 90 percent. Sonik accumulated CDs from various suppliers and
fulfilled its own orders. Annual fixed costs of fulfillment were $400,000; shipments averaged 3.7
CDs per package. Annual marketing expenses were $230,000; Sonik spent 90 percent on acquiring
new subscribers and 5 percent on subscriber retention. Sonik s cost of capital was 12 percent. It was
considering three growth options: a. Continue the Niche Strategy: Sonik believed it could acquire
20,000 30,000 new customers per annum for the next several years without major new investment.
Sonik also believed that spending $0.5 million per annum would increase customer retention to 95
percent. b. Mass Market Strategy: Abandon the subscription model, add many other music genres,
and build a mass market brand.
Sonik estimated it would need an initial investment of $1 2 million to build brand awareness, plus
an additional $0.5 million per annum for distribution and warehousing. Sonik believed it could add
40,000 50,000 new subscribers per quarter at a subscriber acquisition cost of $12.50; annual
margin, $15; and 60 percent customer retention rate. c. Distribution Strategy: In addition to CDs,
Sonik distributed products for other online retailers. AmeriNet Radio operated 43 radio stations in
the southeast U.S. and sold CDs

Code Napoleon  and “Declaration of the Rights of Man”...
Code Napoleon and Declaration of the Rights of Man Comparison
The longest lasting effect of Napoleon Bonaparte s rule over France was his overseeing the
implementation of a series of national laws collectively known as the Civil Code, or Code
Napoleon. Code Napoleon was the successor to the idea s stated in The Declaration of the Rights
of Man and Citizen, While at first, Napoleon generally adhered to the philosophies of the French
Revolutionist as created in The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen, as time progressed,
his absolute power allowed for corruption at the expense of the French people. Napoleon violated
almost every principle in the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen in order to benefit his

This went directly against the Declaration of Rights law that stated The free communication of
ideas and opinions is one of the most precious of the rights of man. Every citizen may,
accordingly, speak, write, and print with freedom, but shall be responsible for such abuses of this
freedom as shall be defined by law He also helped relations achieve positions of power in Europe,
ignoring the principles of the meritocracy which he had earlier instilled.
Possibly the most important article of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen is the first
one, which summarizes all the other articles by demanding equal rights for all citizens. The cry for
equal rights was one of the major demands the Third Estate wanted from the monarchy even at the
beginning of the French Revolution. Early in Napoleons campaign he stated that he supported the
equality of citizens in France, but in 1802 he created the Legion of Honor, a new status in society
which granted members special privileges. The legion was a superior group, similar to nobility,
but Napoleon of course never called it that because he wanted to convince the general public that
the idea of equality was still relevant. The Declaration of the Rights of Man stated that Men are
born and remain free and equal in rights and that social distinctions may be founded only upon the
general good. In this instance Napoleonic Code both lives up to the ideals of, and also fails to live
up to the ideals of its predecessors

Three Civil Rights Laws Passed In The 1960 s
There are three civil rights laws passed in the 1960s. They are Civil Rights Act of 1960, 1964
and 1968. The major and well known one is Civil Rights Act of 1964. This is the law that brings
the equality among all human. It prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex and
national origin and ended racial segregation. In 1964, America was facing racial segregation. The
most infamous way of racial segregation was the legal doctrine in the U.S. constitutional law
Separate but equal . In short, it is a law that allow the government to require the school, housing,
transportation, etc. to be separated by races. For example, a black kid could not attend in a white
only elementary school and whites only train cars; otherwise, he/

Overview of the Immune System and Cells
The immune system has dual natures in series with non self/self recognition being the most
important. Other natures are adaptive/nature or acquired/innate, secondary/primary, passive/active,
humoral/cell mediated and some parts or antigen specific. Antigen specific means when it
recognizes certain antigens it will act upon them. Some pats are systemic which is the don t just
stay at the infected area but go through the body and they have memory, so when they come the
same antigen again they know, they will attack it even stronger. The non self/self recognition is
every cell has marker based on the major histocompatibility complex and cells without this marker
or attacked as non self. This works so well that proteins that are not digested treated the same as
antigens.
There are certain diseases that break down the immune system and it attacks the self cells. These
diseases are called autoimmune and some of these are forms of diabetes and arthritis, systemic
lupus erythematosus and multiple sclerosis. When the immune system responds inappropriately to
innocuous substances such as allergies, this is called allergen.
The two fluid systems are the lymph and blood system are responsible for transporting the immune
systems agents through the body. The blood system contains five liters of blood which is about
seven percent of a person s body weight. Blood is made of fifty two to sixty two percent liquid
plasma and thirty eight to forty

The public funeral, at Morehouse College, hosted thousands of people from all over the nation. Standing along side the King family, these thousands of people mourned with the family in remembrance. After the funeral, analysts talked frequently of the estimated number of people in attendance at the funeral. The estimated range varied from 20,000 to 60,000 people (Ripley, 50,000 1). Finishing Hardwood Floors Hardwood floor can be finished using high power sanding machines, although some handwork may be necessary in places that on which a sanding machine will not fit, or near corners. Before starting the finishing process, the hardwood surface should be free of dirt and all nails must be carefully driven so they are not protruding in the floor or the baseboard. Depending on the hardwood flooringsurface, sometimes with two sanding cuts, you will get a nice finish whatsoever, if the floor is uneven, then three sanding cuts will be needed. Hardwood Flooring Sanding Machines There are two main types of sanding machines: drum or disk type. Drum sanders have the sandpaper mounted on a drum that rotates parallel to the plane of the floor, scratching in straight lines in the direction of the sanding machine. On the other hand, disk sanders are the ones in which the sandpaper rotates in a circle in the plane of the floor. There are different tools that will facilitate sanding hardwood floor near the edges of the floor and next to the baseboard. Choosing the right sandpaper is a very important thing to do, because coarse grits will scratch the hardwood leaving some marks that will be noticeable. Fine grits are better when you want to have the best finishing on a hardwood flooring, although it will require additional work. For better results, start by using the coarse sandpaper, to level the floor and continue to polish the surface using finer sandpaper. Hardwood Flooring Sanding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Annotated Bibliography On Cryptography And Presence Of... Cryptography The practice and study in securing communication between parties in presence of potential adversaries. A cryptographic algorithm or cipher is a mathematical function used in a plaintext in the encryption and decryption process. A cryptographic algorithm works in combination with a key (number, word, or phrase) to encrypt the plaintext. The same plaintext also encrypts to different cipher text with the use of different keys. The core of modern cryptography is the construction and analyzation of protocols of various aspects in information security such as data integrity and confidentiality, authentication, and non repudiation. Modern practice of cryptography involves cryptographic method. First cryptographic method is the Symmetric Key Algorithm also known as Secret key Cryptography. The symmetry of algorithm comes from both parties involved sharing the same key for both data encryption and decryption. It works like a physical door where anyone who has the right locking and unlocking uses a copy of the same key. Symmetric key Algorithm works by taking the message and combining it with a shared key that inputs the algorithm then outputs a ciphered message. Two ways of symmetric key algorithm encryption involve block ciphers and stream ciphers. Stream cipher is a symmetric key cipher where plaintext digits are combined with a pseudorandom cipher digit stream (keystream). In astream cipher each plaintext digit is encrypted one at a time with the corresponding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shamelessly, like merciless puppeteers, they create tension between the mortals for their own personal entertainment, with little regard for the inevitable mayhem and carnage that ensues. Indeed, the ten year conflict at Troy is indirectly sparked by the vain goddess Aphrodite s desire to be recognized as the fairest beauty among the goddesses, yet as soon as the fighting begins, she pleads neutrality. Similarly, Zeus himself shows little concern for the rampant slaughter among mortals taking place on his watch, even though initially he aids Achilles in his revenge against the Greeks. • 11. Cultural Issues Created by the Prohibition Era. While the prohibition movement of the early twentieth century was brought on with a wholesome and moral mindset, the economic, political, and cultural factors relating to its origins and enactment untimely doomed it for failure. Such groups as the Women s Christian Temperance Union and the progressive party argued that drinking was the cause of political corruption, crime, bad labor conditions, and a declining sense of family values. These groups protests and rallies gained enormous support quickly for a constitution amendment as early as 1913 with the Jubilee Convention. Before the Eighteenth Amendment officially declared the U.S as a dry country, prohibition was already in effect in a majority of states and counties. By the time the amendment took effect in January of 1920, three of every four Americans lived in a dry county; and due to the enactment of the Webb Kenyon Act of 1913 outlawing the shipment of alcohol into dry states, the amendment caused little change in the lives of many Americans. Many hoped that prohibition would be the moral reform that would regenerate society; however, it resulted in more corruption and organized crime. Unperceived economic factors relating to bootlegging, taxes, and police enforcement heavily contributed to the demise of the prohibition era. As soon as the eighteenth amendment took effect a ring of bootlegging and organized gangs emerged. In addition to many of these bootleggers brewing their own moonshine to sell, several ... This covers numerous individual services around the country, all of which must be able to provide a level of service both emergency and non emergency to the public. The NHS was formed in 1948 after a series of public welfare reforms, and has evolved into the multi billion pound organisation that millions of individuals rely upon today. As an organisation within the public sector, the performance of the NHS is often heavily scrutinised by the media and general public, as the body is funded by taxpayer s money. The services offered by the organisation are also of extreme importance in regards to public health, and as such, it is crucial that such an organisation has an effective business continuity plan in order to maintain these services to the highest possible level in front of unexpected disasters or failures. • 16. Using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing ( Ofdm ) Abstract multiple carriers are simultaneously modulated using Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) which is a transmission technique. Since the OFDM based system has high spectral efficiency and is robust against intersymbol interference and frequency selective fading channels. The major problem of this system is high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of transmitted signal which causes distortion of signal. At the Receiver, to reduce PAPR in removing weight with no distortion PAPR reducing scheme which is based on a weighted OFDM signal is proposed. In this scheme, on each discrete OFDM signal through a certain kind of a signal which is band limited a weight is imposed. before a high power amplifier (HPA), an OFDM signal which is formed with the weighted discrete data is then considered, at the receiver side the original signal can be collected completely. Meanwhile, to transmit the weighted OFDM signal the required time duration is same as the original OFDM signal s time duration. Computer simulations will evaluate the effectiveness of the scheme which is proposed now. From the numerical results it is observed that , the weighted OFDM signal has bit error rate (BER) performance that is improved when compared with the C F method and has PAPR smaller than the clipping and filtering (C F) method. Here, the proposed method is simpler than the clipping and Filtering method. Keywords: Bit error rate, Convolution, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Pros And Cons Of School Uniforms In Public Schools Many public schools around the world have always given children diversity within the educational environment. School administrators are able to achieve this goal by allowing students the ability to freely express themselves. Until recent years, public schools and administrators have noted an astonishing difference in behavior and academic performance. This success is due to the use of school uniforms mandated in public schools. Unfortunately, most school districts follow certain policies that restrict students from choosing their own form of dress. This restriction may contain unintentional negative effects that may emotionally harm the children and interfere with their true self. School uniforms follow strict policies that should not be mandatory in public schools because they are a violation of student s human rightsthat deny these children the right to self expression and individuality. When school uniforms are mandatory they are unjustly forced upon a student denying them a sense of self expression. Most children enjoy wearing clothing that they like and clothing that represents who they are becoming as an individual. Although, when uniforms are mandatory students are not permitted to wear the style of clothing that they enjoy. This could include clothing that represents the children as a person such as graphics, symbols, lettering and phrases. When students are given a mandatory dress code, they are ripped of their human right of self expression. One important factor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example we are able to see how much Watson values Francis opinions when he says Another fifteen minutes fiddling by Francis failed to find anything wrong, though for brief intervals my stomach felt uneasy when i saw him frowning. The photographer, Robert Capa, soon influenced the beautiful woman, Gerda Taro, into taking pictures with him and they grew to be inseparable partners. Their love story became well known to future generations of photographers, but many everyday people are unaware of this legendary tale. The day their inspiring love story had came to an end was the same day they had been reunited with a new beginning. One with an eternity together in the afterlife, and an eternity of impacting future generations to come. The song Taro by Alt. This song describes the love story of Robert Capa and Gerda Taro in a very practical way, the ending to their love story wasn t full of unicorns and rainbows as you would assume to be. Robert Capa loved photography, especially war photography. I will advance the thesis that the Human Development Index (HDI) is a better measure of economic performance than the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita. By saying that the HDI is a better system to measure economic performance, I mean that because the HDI highlights the trend between longevity, education and economic growth, it calculates a better analysis of an economy (Costa, Steckel 1997, p. 71). In contrast, the GDP per capita only accounts for the gross domestic productwithout paying any attention to other factors of an economy (Hawthorn, Sen 1997, p. 60). With this being said, my thesis asserts that the HDI is a better measure for economic performance because it considers significant factors that play large roles in an... As I just defended the importance of considering longevity in an economy, I will now explain why it is imperative to consider education when calculating the development and performance of an economy. To begin, when a population is educated they will have the opportunity to adapt new technology and new ideas to enhance their productivity and output, which is an essential part of competing against other economies in the international arena. To be more specific, when a population is able to adapt new technology and idea they increase their speed of production, which, in turn, increases their output, which means, in simple terms, new technology and ideas increase an economy s growth because it allows them to produce more, faster and trade more, faster. This is best explained in Invest in Humans, Technological Diffusion, and Economic Growth that says, the better educated farmer is quicker to adopt profitable new processes and products since, for him, the expected payoff from innovation is likely to be greater and the risk likely to be smaller; for he is better able to discriminate between promising and unpromising ideas, and hence les likely to make mistakes (Nelson, Phelps 1966, p.70) , while the less educated farmer is prudent to delay the introduction of new technology until he has concrete evidence of its profitability, which is often from his ... Lastly, VW seemed to be obsessed with surpassing Toyota and becoming the world s biggest car company (A Mucky Scandal, 2015), apparently determined to do whatever it took to accomplish that. The Impact on VW It is not hard to see that the scandal would cause a horrid blow to VW s image. Until the incident, VW had, like many other German companies, the reputation of German engineering (Robertson, 2013). However, instead of using that innovation to develop diesel fueled cars compliant with U.S. standards, it decided to try to scam its way in the market. Not only did the company admit to having 11 million cars with software intended to cheat tests (Gates, Ewing, Russell Watkins, 2017), it also plead guilty to destroying evidence in an elaborate cover up (VW Admits Emissions Cheating and Cover up, 2017); building further distrust among its consumers. Humanitarian Intervention is military intervention that is carried out in pursuit of humanitarian rather than strategic objectives. The common use of the term itself is the desire to come in help to other people, however according to some other opinions, it is the outcome of the intervention that defines it. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The efficiency of humanitarian intervention is normative because of people having different views on the output and the unlikeliness of every one being pleased by the new regime therefore it is very hard to affirm the real results of the intervention. In 2011, a group of countries intervened during the Libyan civil war, which lead to the abolition of Muammar Gadhafi s regime. The Operation Unified Protector by NATO was partly successful because they achieved to kill the dictator on 20th October, but partly ineffective because the standards of living in Libya have not increased and the state is facing a lack of government s ruling. This case study supports the statement that HI could be an abandoned project as it is not always favourable to everyone. Despite the fact that there is some failures, some beneficial interventions still occur. More cases for intervention emerge due to globalization, which implies that states have closer links to each other and therefore the responsibility to help becomes stronger. As countries generally develop through time, people are more educated and communication is more open, which is a factor that governments cannot control. The Catholic Church only recently amended its stance on the heliocentric nature of the solar system, when in nineteen ninety two Pope John Paul II exonerated Galileo Galilei s crimes of heresy, three centuries after the man s death (Cowell, 1992). As many western institutions begin to diversify their gender and ethnic makeup, the Catholic Church has remained almost devoid of female participation in all positions of authority and significance. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another industry that has shown signs of employment growth during this hard time is the accommodation and food services industry. Which, outside of London, has seen a 4.8% increase in employment. This could be due to employees from other industries simply switching careers, which opposes the view of this model that skills diminish or are not transferrable between sectors of the economy (ONS, 2014). On the other hand this rise in employment could simply be due to the UK s flexible labour market. Another industry that has experienced a downwards growth trend is the mining and quarrying industry. There has been a dramatic reduction in growth, as between the periods of early 2011 and the final quarter of 2013 the industry has been 35.2% below its pre recession peak. However this industry decline has been slowly happening since 1999, this consequently could be a contributing factor to the issue of hysteresis as this is the second largest sub industry of total production within the UK (ONS, 2013). This fits within the assumptions of the model of structural unemployment as the decline in the industry has clearly led to higher levels of unemployment. The long term decline of such a large industry can often lead to long term unemployment, such as we saw in the coal industry, which is a common cause of hysteresis. Stemming from multiple causes such as the lack of food and other necessities, a growing social inequality in the face of the Enlightenment, and economic decline, the French Revolution bred dissent, notably among the masses in Paris. At the height on the Revolution, it became as much of a crusade against their fellow countrymen as it was against their outside enemies. After seizing power, political factions consistently accused each other of working against the Revolution, and royalist insurrections fueled the disarray. Leading up to Revolution itself was the growing social inequality. With the centralization of the French state due to the efforts of French kings such as Louis XIV, French common citizens found themselves subjected to the will of a nobility that became increasingly hostile to any sort of concessions. Many families were struggling to make ends meet while seeing those at the top of society turn a blind eye. Warfare contributed to this as well, notably the Seven Years War in which France lost much of it s New World territory and the American War of Independence after which the French came away with little spoils, not nearly enough to make up for the money spent on the war. With their country on the verge of economic collapse, French prices soared, forcing French commoners into an increasingly small box. Faced with an increasing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Basilica Of The Assumption Of Our Lady Of Valencia Art, the way that many cultures have expressed their ideals and culture through out time. Many artists from multiple cultures have arisen and created masterpieces of art: Everything from paintings, to massive architecture, and statues. The massive piece of art I will be focusing on today will be the Basilica of the Assumption of our Lady of Valencia or The Valencia Cathedral for short. This massive architecture shows a compelling example of Gothic art during this era. The cathedral first came to be after the Christian s re conquered Valencia back from the Arab communities, who had conquered it from the Spaniards in 723 C.E. While under the Moors (Arab Empire) control the old church that stood there became a mosque. After the Spanish acquired Valencia back, the bishop of Valencia ruled the mosque was to be replaced for a Basilica. This was to strengthen the support for the Christian religion and to recruit more people to the church. This effort was made to rekindle and bring piece of mind to the people in the region who stayed while the Moors soldiers ruled. So in 1238 C.E. the Valencia Cathedral was born. As gothic style of art swept Europe, the pope at the time decided to adopt this style of art. As the book Art: A Brief History states, By the middle thirteenth century builders had thoroughly mastered the design principles and building technology of Gothic architecture and began to focus attention on elaborating and refining the visual elements of the style. ... • 45. Characteristics Of The Horseshoe Crab Introduction: Limulus polyphemus, the horseshoe crab, inhabits shallow brackish marine environments ranging from the Atlantic Ocean along the North American coastline to the Gulf coasts of the United states and from the East coast of Mexico to the Yucatan Peninsula (Walls, Elizabeth). There are three other species of the horseshoe crab worldwide: Tachypleus tridentatus, Tachypleus gigas, and Carconoscorpinus rotundicauda that closely resemble Limulus in structure and habits, ranging from the Indian ocean to the Pacific Ocean along the coasts of Asia (National Wildlife Federation). The horseshoe crab is known to be one of the oldest living fossils ; which means that this organism s morphology has essentially not changed from fossils found from earlier geologic times, around 250 million years ago (Noel Chartier). Based on the fact that the morphology has not changed in so long it can be assumed that the horseshoe crab has not had to adapt to changing environments and has been able to withstand a changing environment. Due to the statement regarding the oldest living fossils, one can hypothesize that fossil records will show evidence that fossils of extinct creatures look nearly identical to the creatures that are still living today (Noel Chartier). If a person searched for horseshoe crabs in a shallow brackish marine environment and found a living horseshoe crab and compared it to a fossil record of one, they would look almost identical to each other. • 46. Racial Tension, Racial Tensions, And Dramatic Social Change Turbulent times have engulfed the United States. Violent extremism, a stagnating economy, racial tension, and dramatic social change have left Americans worried about the country s future. Candidates from both major political parties pander to those concerns in hopes of ascending to the presidency. None have capitalized on those anxieties more than Donald Trump. His promise to restore the countries greatness is based on his ability to rid the country of its Alien problems. Hearkening to a darker time, Trump has staked his presidential campaign on placing blame for America s troubles at the feet of non Americans, specifically non white Americans. Reminiscent of debate surrounding passage of the Chinese Exclusion Act, Trump s subtle use of racism to galvanize support has threatened to set America back one hundred twenty five years and tear the country apart. Trump proposes radical change to standing immigration practice to relieve American anxieties. During his announcement speech, he pointed the finger at Hispanic immigrants for much of America s angst. Referring to them as criminals, Trump held non whites, from south of the U.S, liable for what he claimed was America s decline. A few months later, in the name of national security, he added Muslims to his list of those responsible for America s troubles. Asserting the measure was necessary to keep Americans safe, Trump proposed a moratorium on all Muslim immigration into the United States. In a written statement he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Good Faith Exception Police officers, like the citizens they protect, can make mistakes. I do not believe that police officers should be held liable for acting in good faith. According to the United States Supreme Court, per Brinegar v. United States, because many situations which confront officers in the course of executing their duties are more or less ambiguous, room must be allowed for some mistakes on their part. But the mistakes must be those of reasonable men, acting on facts leading sensibly leading to their conclusions of probability. (PoliceMag, 2007). The Fourth Amendment protects the citizens of the United States from unreasonable searches and seizures. (U.S. Const. amend. IV). Over the course of history, the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of protecting the policeofficers from any liability. My focus will be on the good faith exception and the exigent circumstance. The Good Faith Exception First, the good faith exception protects law enforcement officers who had reasonable intentions, but made mistakes with their actions. The Supreme Court first introduced the good faith exception in United States v. Leon. The Court maintained that the exclusionary ruleis not relevant in situation when police officers act with reasonable dependence on a search warrant that later proves to be invalid. ... • 48. How The Events Of 1984 Have Made Them Who They Are 1984 Chris McCloskey Hillsborough Community College October 27, 2014 Abstract. In these questions I will analyze the characters while focusing on how the events in 1984 have made them who they are. I will also discuss the types of conditioning in the book and give examples of the conditioning. Then I will talk about some of the laws or regulations in the world today that I find to be not constitutional. Finally I will define progressicism, socialism, communism and Marxism, and who founded them. 1. The characters in 1984 are trained to be collectivists because they stride for social harmony and the satisfaction in life is based on the success of the group as a whole. An example of this is everyone jobs is to make sure that Oceania succeeds against East Asia. (Orwell) 2. The all of the characters that have conformed have the same personalities, they are all obedient. However Winston and Julia are rebellious and stray from the norm. I do not think they have psychological disorder because a psychological disorder is someone who deviates from the norm and those who are found to do so are executed. 3. In the society there is both operant and classical conditioning. One example of operant conditioning is when the prisoners are hung out in front of all the people to see in the streets and on the TVs. An example of the classical conditioning is in the beginning of the book they showed the face of a trader and everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Code Napoleon and Declaration of the Rights of Man Comparison The longest lasting effect of Napoleon Bonaparte s rule over France was his overseeing the implementation of a series of national laws collectively known as the Civil Code, or Code Napoleon. Code Napoleon was the successor to the idea s stated in The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen, While at first, Napoleon generally adhered to the philosophies of the French Revolutionist as created in The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen, as time progressed, his absolute power allowed for corruption at the expense of the French people. This went directly against the Declaration of Rights law that stated The free communication of ideas and opinions is one of the most precious of the rights of man. Every citizen may, accordingly, speak, write, and print with freedom, but shall be responsible for such abuses of this freedom as shall be defined by law He also helped relations achieve positions of power in Europe, ignoring the principles of the meritocracy which he had earlier instilled. Possibly the most important article of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen is the first one, which summarizes all the other articles by demanding equal rights for all citizens. The cry for equal rights was one of the major demands the Third Estate wanted from the monarchy even at the beginning of the French Revolution. Early in Napoleons campaign he stated that he supported the equality of citizens in France, but in 1802 he created the Legion of Honor, a new status in society which granted members special privileges. The legion was a superior group, similar to nobility, but Napoleon of course never called it that because he wanted to convince the general public that the idea of equality was still relevant. The Declaration of the Rights of Man stated that Men are born and remain free and equal in rights and that social distinctions may be founded only upon the general good. In this instance Napoleonic Code both lives up to the ideals of, and also fails to live up to the ideals of its predecessors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The major and well known one is Civil Rights Act of 1964. This is the law that brings the equality among all human. It prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin and ended racial segregation. In 1964, America was facing racial segregation. The most infamous way of racial segregation was the legal doctrine in the U.S. constitutional law Separate but equal . • 53. Overview of the Immune System and Cells The immune system has dual natures in series with non self/self recognition being the most important. Other natures are adaptive/nature or acquired/innate, secondary/primary, passive/active, humoral/cell mediated and some parts or antigen specific. Antigen specific means when it recognizes certain antigens it will act upon them. Some pats are systemic which is the don t just stay at the infected area but go through the body and they have memory, so when they come the same antigen again they know, they will attack it even stronger. The non self/self recognition is every cell has marker based on the major histocompatibility complex and cells without this marker or attacked as non self. This works so well that proteins that are not digested treated the same as antigens. There are certain diseases that break down the immune system and it attacks the self cells. These diseases are called autoimmune and some of these are forms of diabetes and arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and multiple sclerosis. When the immune system responds inappropriately to innocuous substances such as allergies, this is called allergen. The two fluid systems are the lymph and blood system are responsible for transporting the immune systems agents through the body. The blood system contains five liters of blood which is about seven percent of a person s body weight. Blood is made of fifty two to sixty two percent liquid plasma and thirty eight to forty ...
