Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bileaflet Valve
Assignment 1
Part 1: Medical Device related to Human Biofluid Mechanics
St. Jude Medical Bileaflet valve
Defects in the valves of a heart can lead to regurgitation, and stenosis. Common symptoms include
angina, shortness of breaths and heart failure. These defects affect the heart functionality. As a
result, artificial heart valves are used to replace these defective valves. One artificial heart valve is
the St. Jude Bileaflet valve.
Long term studies have indicated that the St. Jude Medical mechanical heart valves demonstrates
consistent hemodynamic (flow of blood through the heart valve) performance over time. The valves
were made from silicon alloyed pyrolytic carbon due to its superior biocompatible, thromboresistant
and wear resistant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be seen from the image where red blood cells and platelets are seen leaking back from the
aorta into the left ventricle. These cells are subjected to non physiological flows, leading to
activation or rupture, the first step towards initiation of the coagulation response when they flow
through the valve. Major disadvantages of mechanical heart valves include their thromboembolic
tendencies (thrombus formation), risks of blood cell damage (haemolysis), stenosis (tissue on the
valve pannus) and the life reliance of anticoagulants with the risk of haemorrhage.
Part 2: Shortcomings, and Improvements to the Device
The ideal artificial heart valve should possess qualities like good hemodynamic performance and
durability, freedom from thromboembolism, and ease of insertion.
Improvement: Thicker cuff
A thicker cuff with more intricate threads can allow a more secured grasp, positioning and
alignment of the prosthetic valve with the vessel walls as compared to a thinner cuff. The thicker
cuff will also be able to support a taller carbon orifice (mentioned later) as well as the high pressure

Ww1 Informal Letter
My beloved daughter Magdalene,
I was overjoyed to recieve your letter. I hope you maintain your good grade and take very good
care of your sister, Meredith. I miss your charming personality and smile that would bright up a
room. I could use one of your hugs right about now. The infirmary isnt exaclty the most cheerfull
place. Usually i would be filling sandbags right about now because we rotate responsibilities
between the frontlines and the fields. Our lives on the frontlines are horrendous. There are not
enough words to describe how terrible the frontline trenches truly are. There are thousands of mice ,

We waited to receive the orders from the lieutenant, but in my head i was already saying my
prayers. He had told us to retrace our steps. I ran with everything I had in me, the proper duckboard
made it somewhat easier to run but didn t take away from the fact that i was running with about
50kg of ammunition with me. We ran and arunned until we found the sap, while lieutenant provided
shelter fire. We got out of the enemy trenches and crawled through the enemy s barbed wire. In the
process of me going through the barbed wire, I cut my eye. Within seconds it was swollen shut
and I thought I was in a dream. Maybe all of this was just a nightmare. I was later told i was
suffering from extreme blood loss. Soon i felt something pull me i honestly thought i was being
taken for german prisoner. But i heard a familiar voice. It was the lieutenant telling me to wake
up. With whatever strength i had left and the help of the lieutenant,i staggered across no man s
land And made it to our trenches were i was rushed to the infirmary. Not to soon after we arrived
to safety, well as close to safety as we could have gotten the germans released fire on us. Although
my eye is severely damaged, it couldve been alot worse; I am grateful that i returned all in one
piece. I miss you dearly and am waiting to see you. If i do not make it hone in time for your

New Englander s Opposition Of The War Of 1812
New Englander s Opposition to the War of 1812
The War of 1812 was predominantly fought between the United States and the United Kingdom
for a variety of complex reasons but most notably was caused by Britain s inability to treat the
newly freed America as anything but a colonial body. Americans were overall outraged into war by
their own government s sanctioned trade embargoes, the impressments of seamen by the United
Kingdom, and interpersonal negative sentiments that greatly restricted America s trade with
European nations (including the vital trade with Britain) and in effect: America s economy.
American leaders at this point slightly miscalculated the effort by deciding to invade Canada as
the only viable way to properly attack Great Britain; this created an aggressive beginning on
America s part in this obscure war. The Treaty of Ghent ended the conflict in 1815 and said
nothing about the major issues that caused the war and did not conclude in a victory for either
side; it called for the return of preceding conditions before the war and did little to nothing to solve
the tensions between these two major nations: the United States and the United Kingdom. So how
did Americans feel about this unclear war? The War of 1812is America s most unpopular war as it
is largely forgotten in our history. The New Englanders specifically opposed the war, with some
Republicans lending a hand in the anti war effort. At this time New England was politically
dominated by the

Assignment 1b
Theoretical Assumptions: There are five identified stages that students move through on their way
to becoming conventional spellers: emergent spelling, letter name alphabetic spelling, within word
patters spelling, syllables and affixes spelling, and derivational relations spelling. At each stage,
students use different strategies and focus on particular aspects of spelling.
Words Their Way is an instructional approach and a wonderful addition to word study. It provides a
practical way to study words with students. Using Words Their Way gives teachers a great
understanding of their individual students by knowing your students literacy development, organize

She is becoming a great problem solver. Her main problem solving strategy is sounding out.
Mesiah will try and sound out each individual sound out loud and then she will try and pronounce
the word as whole to the best of her ability. She is also beginning to self monitor as she is reading
and writing. She is thinking about what she writing. She will double check to see if what word
she is spelling looks right and sounds right. At times she will refer back to a word at a later time
when the correct spelling may come to her. Mesiah really likes asking for help as well. I love to
assist Mesiah because I know she does not always get the one on one instruction on a regular basis.
And I know that is really what she needs.
Instructional Plan:
Based on my assessments, I have developed the following instructional goals in the areas of
reading, writing, and spelling. Each instruction made is intended to strengthen her skills and
strategies and accelerate Mesiah in these specific areas.
I will focus on Mesiah s strengths. The best way I found to do this is by creating a positive,
engaging, and relatable practice for her in the same type of learning environment.
I will continue to focus on sight words, reading, and spelling. I will do this by administering
spelling inventories found in Words Their Way, informal spelling assessments based off of weekly
spelling words, inventories, and sight words, and spelling checks

I Am Sweating Profusely
I was sweating profusely. Of course, it was the middle of summer in Southern California; why
wouldn t I be. In fact, in the dojo it was sweltering. That wasn t really why I was sweating
though; this was the day of my test. I remember everyone was making jokes and frivolously
making small talk, but it was only to pass time. I looked on the mat and noticed how big it was,
how it could hold a hundred people; then I realized how observable every mistake I made would
be with only a few testers on the floor. I looked around the room and saw the audience waiting,
anxious for the event to start. To us testers, each one of them was another judge, watching our
every move. I knew once I started my test, my focus wouldn t depart from my task. For now, all I
could think about was what was about to happen. Thirty minutes until my test started and I was
stretching. I remember trying to block out everything around me and recall why I was there. I
had been training eight lengthy years for that day, and I had been training hard. If you had told
ten years old me that I would still be doing this in eight years, I would ve been astounded. It started
off as just a way for me to exercise but it had become so much more. I had made good friends,
learned virtues like patience and diligence, and even changed me from a shy kid to a confident
young adult. Most people had past me up due to my bad back, but that never discouraged me. I

Guatemalan Literature
Syriac literature accounts for 90% of the total Aramaic literature. The literature was written in the
Esб№rangelДЃ (Classical) form. The earliest forms of Syriac literature were based in Edessa and
were written by pagans, agnostics, Jews, and Christians. The exact origins of these works were
never found. By the start of the third century the Old Testament had already been translated into
Syriac from Hebrew. Around the same time is when one of the earliest versions of the New
Testament known as the Diatessaron came into being. This work was used by the Syriac Church for
two centuries until a prominent bishopclaimed that the author, Tatian was a heretic. This book

Though called the Assyrian genocide a better suited name would be the Assyrian/Syriac/Chaldean
genocide. between the years 1914 1920 along with the better known Armenian genocide and the
Greek genocide. This event was not the first tragedy in Syriac history as Byzantine oppression,
slaughter at the hands of the Crusaders, and Mongol invasion occurred prior (The Syriac Orthodox
Church a Brief Overview, NP). The rise of nationalism among the Christian citizens of the
Ottoman Empire and the rise of the Young Turk government that preached a Turkey for the
Turks was recipe for a disaster. The Young Turk government staged a successful coup in 1913.
Following the entrance of the Ottoman Empire into World War I in November 1914
simultaneous genocides against Assyrians, Armenians, and Greeks occurred along with the help
of Kurdish tribes. Victims were plundered, raped, deported, and massacred horrifically. The
Assyrian genocide is treated slightly differently from that of the Armenians as there were no
specific orders to attack and deport Assyrians from Ottoman leaders since they were not
assisting the Russian Empire and did not desire their own nation state. The genocide was carried
out by local leaders and Kurdish tribes. In some cities the entire adult populations were wiped
out whereas in other cities such as Mardin only the male population was killed and the widows
and children were forced to leave on foot which caused many more deaths. The deaths were not
limited to just the Ottoman Empire as Assyrians in Persia were also slaughtered when the
Ottoman Empire invaded northwestern Persia (The Assyrian Genocide, 1914 to 1923 and 1933
up to the Present, NP). The death toll was believed to be 300,000 Syriacs yet has only been
recognized by the Swedish and Armenian Parliaments (Centenary of 1915 Syriac (Sayfo) genocide,
NP). As the Middle East has been thrown into turmoil the

Essay on The Airport on Thanksgiving Eve
Thanksgiving holiday is one of the few holidays that we do not have in Thailand. I never
understood the significance of this holiday apart from its two day school break until I traveled
on Thanksgiving eve this past holiday. A taxi driver who drove me to the airport hinted about its
importance by saying that, Tonight is one of the busiest travel periods of the year. I did not
completely comprehend his claim until I saw how crowded the airport was. It seemed to me that
everyone headed home to celebrate Thanksgiving with his or her family. However, what was
most amusing that night was a scene of tens or even hundreds of people waiting for their family
members at arrival gate. I was not clear why there were lots of people so I decided to do... Show

In addition, because of the different constraints between controlled environment in laboratories and
the real world, we cannot use experiments to answer the question. Therefore, ethnography is the
most suitable procedure to answer this question.
To conduct my ethnography, I observed people who waited for their family members at the
airport by sitting near the gate and watching their reactions. Without asking for their opinions or
reasons about their behaviors, I eliminated potential Hawthorne effects which is people changed
their actions once they realized that someone observed them. I paid attention to the number of
people waiting together to determine the relationship between the waiting and arriving people,
their actions while they waited and their reaction once they met their person. According to my
observations, people brought the whole family with them if the person they waited for was part
of a family and they were alone if the arrived person was one s boy/girlfriend. They had similar
emotions such as being tired and bored while they waited. No one had any positive facial
expressions but they refused to sit and wait in the back. Everyone wanted to be the first one to see
the person to whom they waited for. When the long awaited person arrived, their emotions changed
dramatically. Everyone had smiles on their faces and they started to hug

Climate Change and Environmental Issues
Environmental Issues Climate Change Introduction Is global warming due to human activity or
not? Is there something societies around the world can do to halt the warming of the planet?
What is the key to societies developing a sustainable world and how do environmental dynamics
impact sustainability? These questions and others will be addressed from several perspectives in
this paper. Is global warming due to human activities? The view of Scientists The most
authoritative and objective source of information on climate change (or global warming, as some
prefer to use) is the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a group that began
researching climate change in 1992. The IPCC was launched by the United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organizations (WMO) in order to ...provide
an objective source of scientific information (UN.org). It was clear by the middle of the 20th
century, the UN explains, that as a ...side effect of the industrial age...human action had
significantly increased the production of...carbon dioxide one of the main greenhouse gases that
contributes to global climate change. The IPCC has its next major report due out in 2014, and
while the IPCC does publish occasional white paper findings between their major reports, the most
recent report is called the Climate Change 2007: Working Group I: The Physical Science Basis. In
that report there is a section called Human and Natural Drivers of Climate Change

Assessment Of Bod, Cod As Organic Pollution Indicator...
ASSESSMENT OF BOD, COD AS ORGANIC POLLUTION INDICATOR LEVELS OF
VARHALA LAKE ABSTRACT Lakes are of great importance both from the natural and
economic point of view. Lake water is a source of drinking and domestic water supply for people
living in and around the area. The present study was conducted to assess the organic pollution
indicators like BOD, COD and DO. The sampling of water was based on human and aquatic
activities around the lake. Water from five sampling stations of Varhala Lake was monitored for
seasonal variations from May 2011 to April 2012. The BOD was positively correlated with COD
of 0.609, as both are the products of oxidation. The correlation between DO and BOD, gave a
negative relationship of 0.517 between two variables. Keywords: Water quality monitoring;
pollution indicators; Varhala Lake INTRODUCTION Most of our water resources are gradually
becoming polluted due to the addition of foreign materials from the surroundings. Rapid
urbanization and industrialization has put a lot of pressure on the existing water bodies (Waziri
et al., 2009; Sawant and Telave, 2009). Anthropogenic development and changes around lakes
affects their ecosystems (Mouri, G et al 2011). Lakes have a complex and fragile ecosystem, as
they do not have a self cleaning ability and therefore readily accumulate pollutants (Abida et al
2008; J.C Akan et al 2012). Continuous water quality monitoring is essential for efficient
management of lakes and for control of pollution. It is

Steroids Should Not Be Banned
Steroids By: Taci Miller For many years people have debated whether not to have steroids in
sports, or to keep them away from all competition. However some athletes use steroids anyway to
get ahead of the competition. These action can cause athletes being kicked out of a game or even
all future competition. Some people ask Why use steroids? Some athletes use drugs, where they can
train their bodies hard and then have their bodies recover fast. Different types of athletes use
steroids in different ways depending on what sport the athlete is partaking in. Depending on what
the athlete is trying to achieve they will combine certain drugs to give them the result that they
want(Knight 23). Another reason that some athletes may start to use... Show more content on

The use of steroids has forever changed the face of professional sports, making it a world fueled
by drug contacts instead of skill and talent. Roids, juice, hype, or pump are names that people may
use when talking about steroids. Anabolic steroids are different from steroids medications.
Anabolic steroids help build muscle, buy steroids can not help the ability and or skill of the
athlete. Genetics, body size, age, sex, diet and how the athlete trains determines ability(State Health
Department 1). Steroids fall into the category of ergogenic drugs. A drug that is classified as
orogenetic is a substance that can be used to improve athletic performance. Other ergogenic drugs
include prohormones, such as androstenedione and androstenediol, growth hormones, and
nutritional supplements. While these substances may act on the body in different ways, the goals
are the same: to gain muscles, increase endurance, and speed muscle and strength recovery.
(Knight 7). Athletes who are doping rarely take one kind of drug. More commonly, they will do
what is called stacking, which means combining a number of drugs in order to have the best
chance at success. Unfortunately, stacking can also lead to overdose and greater chances of
permanently damaging vital organs. (Knight 23). Even tho stacking is very bad for everyone, people

The Latin Artist Essay
The Latin Artist The Latin experience as a whole encapsulates a world that not many get to
experience. Those who do, brag of its liveliness; those who don t, gawk at it. What isn t known is
how the latin artist, whose culture places values on work and family much higher than creative
expression, survives through such tyranny. Artists such as Gabriel Marquez and Gabriel Mistra use
their culture to inspire their writing. Their work, much like the work of other writers and poets, is
depressing to say the least. With no support from a community, these artists use metaphors, vivid
imagery, and other effective literary devices in order to convey the neglect that they have grown
accustomed to. Latin Americaand it s people have had a hard time pursuing freedom. While

The Problems Of Waste And Waste Management
What are the dilemmas with Waste or Urbanization and Farming? Before we can begin to discuss
this topic we first must look into the impact of waste and waste management, but more importantly
what types of waste we produce. Most people really do not care about the environment until it
impacts them or their family directly. How many times have you been driving down the road and
watch someone throw trash out the window. Think about what you thought at that very moment.
Now that you have the right mindset let s look into what wastewe produce. Here are just a few

Film Adaptation Of Bram Stoker s Dracula
Bram Stoker s frightening tale of Count Dracula has struck horror into the hearts of many since it
was originally penned. In 1987, Bram Stoker wrote the revolutionary tale Dracula that played off
the fears of the people of the era. The plot and characters that make the novel great also translate
nearly perfectly to cinematic adaptations. Starting in the early 1900 s, directors have done their
best to portray the terror that the original novel inspired. Francis Ford Coppolas Bram Stoker s

his generations ideals on relationships and sex, Coppola made some changes to the plot; however,

This is much different form the novel version of the Count, who Harker describes as a monster
will wants to satiate his lust for blood, and create a new and ever widening circle of semi demons
to batten on the helpless (Stoker 53) Another difference that is different in Dracula s film version is
how he is killed. In the book, Harker slits his throat after a climatic chase and battle, and
immediately turns to dust (Stoker 325). This battle still occurs in Coppola s version; however,
he is eventually killed by Mina and the act is seen as one of compassion and kindness. Stoker
does not explore this idea in his novel. Stoker does not explore this idea in the novel, as doing so
would have taken away from the frightening, undead character that he was trying to create. This is
not to say that Coppola was wrong to go this route, however, only that the perception of vampires
had shifted and he needed something to fit along with this shift. On top of this, Coppola also
decided to make his movie much more erotic portrayal of many characters in the film. This starts
with the brides, who have a much more sexual way of approaching Jonathan than in the book. The
sexual tone continues into how Lucy is depicted in the film. Lucy originally had more of a sexual

Shakespeare s Hamlet is one of the greatest tragedies of all. The character of Hamlet is one who
has deeply rooted conflicts, that come into the light. From start to finish, one can see Hamlet s

world around Hamlet is falling apart and he is only doing his best to right all the wrongs he can.
His judgment may be clouded, but there are still bouts of sense from him throughout the play.
Shakespeare strategically plays off of the language, mainly with the word: seems . He uses this
word to show the multifaceted ways of the characters. In Hamlet, nothing is true as it seems to be.

Curriculum Of American Education Essay
Malala Yousafzai, Bill Gates, Michelle Obama, and Emma Watson. What do all of these people
have in common? Besides being people that I personally look up to, these are all activists for
education around the world. As someone who has been fortunate enough to have gone through
school in such an excellent district, I have seen the impact that an excellent educationcan have on a
child. This is why I firmly believe that education is the strongest asset that any generation can have
to succeed.
In recent years, the United States has fallen behind other countries in education. While we might not
be seeing the immediate effects right now, but unless we make education more accessible and
comparable to other countries curriculum, Americans will fall behind in the global market. It is
imperative that the curriculum of American schools is reevaluated in order to help future

Most American schools, however, do not begin foreign language instruction until middle or high

language class in high school, chances are that they have retained none of it, unless they continued
to study it in college. This is because by the teenage years, it is much harder for the human brain

The career I have chosen is Early Childhood Education. This type of teaching is at the elementary
level. I would be working with children in pre kindergarten through the fifth grade. To become an
Early Childhood Teacher, I will need a high school diploma and a Bachelor s Degree. After I
receive my undergraduate degree I will be awarded a teaching certificate and able to begin teaching
immediately after.
The three colleges that I am interested in are Kennesaw State University, Georgia Northwestern
Technical College, and Georgia Highlands. Kennesaw State University in located in Kennesaw,
Georgia. It is approximately forty minutes from my house. This is a plus, because it is not too close
nor too far away from home. It is a four year public college, so I would be able to get my bachelor s
degree in Early Childhood Education. The enrollment rate for undergraduate students is 35, 018 (
Kennesaw ). The campus setting is large, and the college does have housing for their students to
live in. The student to faculty rate is 20 to 1. Kennesaw State University has a fairly good
graduation rate with forty three percent ( Kennesaw ). Georgia Northwestern Technical College is
located in Rome, Georgia. It is a two year public school so the campus setting is small. There are
6,016 students that are enrolled at Georgia Northwestern Technical College ( Georgia
Northwestern ). They do not have housing on campus, so I would have to live at home. I would be

Adherence To Health Care Case Study
2. Adherence to medical care is described as complying or going along with treatment and its
practices. It is important to understand adherence to medical care when working with clients who
have HIV/AIDS because some clients may have trouble adhering to treatment, while others may not
have an issue at all.
2. Drug resistance is described as something that occurs when a virus stops responding to a drug. It
is important to understand drug resistance when working with clients who have HIV/AIDS because
drug resistance can occur at any time during treatment. If therapy does not completely suppress HIV
replication, the virus can produce mutations that can duplicate in spite of the presence of anti HIV

2. Anti retroviral therapy also known as ART is the mixture of numerous antiretroviral medicines
that are used to slow the rate that HIV makes copies of itself or multiplies in the body. An HIV
infected individual must take antiretroviral medications several times a day for the rest of their life,
and these drugs must be chosen with care, therefore it is important to understand Anti retroviral
therapy when working with clients who have HIV/AIDS.
2. Highly active anti retroviral therapy also known as HAART is a combination of antiretroviral
regimens that integrates at least three antiretroviral drugs. Most HIV specialists consider HAART
as the standard of care. Studies show that treatment with HAART has resulted in improvements in
quality of life and longer survival for many people with HIV. It is important to understand Highly
active anti retroviral therapy when working with clients who have HIV/AIDS because it is vital to
the client s health and survival.
3. Methadone maintenance therapy also known as agonist therapy is the most effective and widely
available treatment for opioid. It is the preferred method of treatment for HIV infected opioid
abusers because it alternates an oral medication for an injected drug. Methadone maintenance also

18th Century Ottoman Essay
Honors College History 232
23 January 2013
Eighteenth Century Ottoman Empire The Ottoman Empire was a state founded by Turkish tribes
under Osman Bey in 1299. Under the leadership of Mehmed II, this fledgling nation became an
empire with the conquest of Constantinople in 1452 by Mehmed II. The Ottoman Empire continued
in its imperial form until it became the Republic of Turkey in 1923. As an empire, it was the most
powerful state in the world with 32 provinces during the seventeenth century. In the last half of the
seventeenth century, the Ottoman Empire functioned under the rule of the Koprulu family, a
notable family of imperial bureaucrats from Albania who overhauled the bureaucracy and instituted
military reforms. After the fall of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Janissary corps distinct social class and special privileges soon brought more harm than good
to the Sultans of the eighteenth Century. The group of men grew corrupt and lived above the law.
Not even the poor were given mercy. A prime example of this can be found in Lady Montague s
Turkish Embassy Letters, where the janissaries slaughter and feast on the poor s livestock then
require the households to pay teeth money. The lawlessness of these men grew so unbearable that
Lady Montague also observes and writes about, how tis the Emperor s interest to flatter [the
janissaries] (Montagu, 105). The groups power became unchecked and tension between the Sultans
and janissaries magnified.
Ahmed III was the first ruler of the eighteenth century. His close ties to the European rulers lead
to prosperous relations with the French and Swedish. Ahmed, during his reign, afforded refuge
to Charles XII of Sweden after the Swedish defeat under the hands of Peter I of Russia in the
Battle of Poltava of 1709. In response to the Swedish defeat, Ahmed declared war against Russia
and won the Ottoman Empire s most notorious victory over Russia. Never before had the Ottoman
forces come so near to breaking the Russian power. The invasion, however, was halted in response
to the incursion of Safavids. Aside from the war, Ahmed left the finances of the Empire in a
flourishing state

Animal Kingdom Research Paper
Once upon a time, to be exact 7 years ago, I went to Animal Kingdom in southern California. It
was my family s first time to Animal Kingdom. Throughout the whole day we visited all types of
amazing exhibits! Until we came to one exhibit, the explorer s aviary. The explorer s aviary is
an enclosed cage where you can watch and feed over one hundred types of colorful, tropical
birds. My parents thought it would be an amusing experience. I was one inch short of the height
limit, but they let me in anyway. Before I entered the exhibit, a worker handed me a small cup of

Macbeth Gaps in Silences
I am helpless and powerless. I have failed in my duties of caring for my Queen. I have allowed
her to slowly suffer in her tormented mind; I have allowed her spirit to crumble and her soul to

been there by her side for many years; I have seen her fall in love; I have seen her lose her loved

The King however yelled at her, accusing her of adultery and witchcraft. I was ordered to dispose

child so that it may be free from its mother s and father s sins.
I wished beyond all reckoning that I could have helped my lady. I am no physician nor am I a
healer. I should have sought help earlier, but who was there to talk to. I was too afraid to speak to

I have lost my faith, because I cannot understand how a situation like this can go on for so long.
How is it the Lord did not answer my prayers, my pleas for help? I am unwilling to obey the

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Education
With regard to bringing the most favorable educational environment for their children, parents take
by far more options into consideration. Given the detrimental impacts exerted by either defiant
peers or inappropriate teaching programs, some people could argue that early schooling is
disadvantageous to children s development. However, I still hold a very firm belief in positive and
long lasting effects of schooling on children s acquisition of knowledge and socioemotional
progression.
One of primary arguments in support of schooling is that early educational provision is the driving
force of children s subsequent academic attainment. According to the NICHD Study of Early Child
Care and Youth Development, sterling early childhood educationmakes a contribution to more
encouraging vocabulary results through fifth grade and academic proficiency at 15 years of age
(Belsky et al., 2007). It is abundantly evident that schools function as an academic context where
children not only acquire the very fundamental competencies namely reading, writing, and
computation but they are also academically motivated by special policies and practices. To be
more specific, the recognition of academic devotion and progression of students, the rewards for
multilevel competences, and class ranking effectively fuel students engagement as well as
competition. To achieve a sense of superiority over their peers, children are willing to complete any
school related tasks. In addition, flexible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Marie Lu s Legend And Andrea White s Surviving Antarctic...
Through these ideas could be somewhat correct, they barely cover up government s influence and
the minimal impact of common civilians. In Marie Lu s Legend and Andrea White s Surviving
Antarctica: Reality TV 2083, one can conclusively recognize the striking resemblance between the
novel and the modern government of the People s Republic of China. The seemingly picturesque
landscapes often obscure the reality that the Chinese government often oppresses freedoms of
expression, violates basic human rights, give the population little control over the government and
its rulers, and controls most of the country s education and news. As in many preset day
governments, and the governments depicted in the books, China considerably restricts its
citizen s rights to speech and the press. In Legend, the people must be careful of what they say,
as it could bring them serious consequences. For example, after Day is executed according the
government, talk of him living spreads extremely quickly but only in the shadows, as it was
dangerous if the government overheard; the person could be locked up or even worse. Earlier,
when June spread news about the Arcadia bank, she sent out scouts, one per sector, to talk about
giving Day plague medicine if he comes to the ten second place. The spreading of this news shows
how easy it is for the government to purposefully spread news, not simply restricting speech but
surreptitiously and indirectly forcing it taking advantage of the people s interest

The MP3 digital music format was developed in an open, non proprietary environment an
international standard, really as a basis for the development of storing and playing audio and

such, it offers no inherent protections, such as protections against the duplication of copyrighted

Individual and small time developers using the standards to create freeware or shareware rippers

How Did The Steam Engine Affect Society
In 1785 the steam engine was invented by James Watt, in Britain. It changed the lives of many
people in the industrial revolution era. The steam engine didn t just change the lives of people, it
changed the way that the world worked socially, economically and politically. The industrial
revolution is the period from when goods were made by hand to making them by machines. The
steam enginewas used for transportation and to run machinery. The steam engine changed the lives
of people who worked in factories. The attempts by many people before James Watt to find another

for their health. Before the steam power came in, young children were forced to work which was
very unsafe because they could get hurt a lot easier than the other adults working. With all these
bad effects in mind there are a lot more positives. Some of these positives are that manufactures

Lakota Sioux Movie Essay
This film goes into detail on how the Lakota Sioux once lived during the westward expansion

Other movies only show the Native Americans as being beasts that only want to hurt the white

of the Lakota Sioux. In the film it shows the Native Americans as a group of people that are eager
to laugh and extremely devoted to family. Most of the nights in the movie they are all talking
with each other and laughing, much like most people do today. One of the main aspects of the

The Pros And Cons Of Pterosaurs
Neither bats nor birds, pterosaurs were considered reptiles. And although scientists have long
debated where exactly pterosaurs fit on the reptile s family tree, it has been proven time and
again that they were close cousins to dinosaurs but just evolved on a different family line. The
top theory as of now among scientists is that pterosaurs, crocodiles, and dinosaurs are closely
related to each other as a group. In the kingdom of Animalia, these three belong to a group known
as archosaurs. The Prehistoric Flying Reptiles Pterosaurs flourished during the age of dinosaurs,

Habib said that the structure and the bone share are both integral to tell the strength of the

washed away from the nesting site due to the storm in the lake, where later on they were

Functional Behavior Assessment A Behavior Intervention Plan
Introduction Under Functional Behavior Assessment a Behavior intervention plan or a BIP is a
detailed outline designed for a specific behavior that a child may be experiencing. The detailed
outlined is used to change the behavior of concern examples are off task behaviors meaning;
drawing when the child is supposed to be working on an academic task or oppositional behaviors
meaning; child often argues with adults or people in authority. There are many reasons a child
should have a BIP. One reason is to reduce problem behaviors so that a child may learn to the best
of his/her ability and another is to keep themselves and others safe in the environment that they are
in. For this behavioral assessment I have chosen scenario # 1. A third grade student in a public
elementary school has been referred for behavior problems continuously for the past three months.
This student is demonstrating consistently disruptive behaviors in this classroom and in other
settings within the school (lunch, recess, specials, etc.). Disruptive behaviors have been termed
aggressive and non compliant by school staff. Kyle entered the Vanderbilt Elementary School in
the third grade. He has had a great deal of managing and regulating his behavior, cooperating with
teachers directives, and maintaining appropriate behaviors at various locations and times of the
school day (lunch, recess, specials, etc.) for the past three months. Not only does his behavior

the question on most high school graduates minds is about what to study in college and dedicate

In my opinion a career educationis an important use of a collegeeducation because it is more
applicable than a liberal arts education in a job setting in today s capitalist society. Many people
assume that a career education only provides unrewarding job training but it is so much more than
that. In reality a career education is an avenue for people to lead meaningful lives that can be

African Americans During Reconstruction
The best way to predict the future is to create it. Abraham Lincoln. The Union did various things to
help the South during the Reconstruction. They rebuilt roads, got farms operating once again, and

protected by the government during reconstruction by the Freedmen s Bureau, despite the South s
bitterness towards the new changes. Overall, reconstruction was positive because it brought many
affirmative changes for African Americans. First of all, the actions taken by the government to
ensure that Freedmen in the South were protected during the reconstruction was the establishment
of the Freedmen s Bureau. The Freedmen s Bureau was established in March 1865, which helped
African Americans achieve economic stability and secure political freedoms. Some of the things
the Freedmen s Bureau did was ensure that the former slaves earned fair and equal wages. Thus, it
created specific courts to settle disputes between black workers and white employers. In addition to
this, the Freedmen s Bureau established schools for African Americans. By 1870, two hundred fifty

American Public University Systems
Abstract
Market structures influence a firm s behavior and profit opportunity and are therefore critical to
understanding how a market functions. The conditions that distinguish each market structure define
the level of competition observed within the market which in turn determines the profit level that
can be made. Because pricing strategies are intended to maximize a firm s profit, understanding
market competition is necessary when deciding an appropriate pricing strategy approach. The third
section of this paper gives the pricing strategy for a real world firm for each market structure.
An Analysis of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This section will provide a detailed analysis of the four market structures. Each analysis will
describe the characteristics that are found within a market structure and describe how these
characteristics influence a firm s behavior and profit opportunity. Perfect Competition
A perfectly competitive market is one where competition between firms is intense; the market is
considered concentrated. The characteristics of a perfectly competitive market include having a
large number of firms in the market, homogeneous products, no entry or exit barriers, no non price
competition or external costs or benefits, perfect knowledge, and zero control over the market
price or conditions. These characteristics create a condition in which the firms in a market act as
price takers; in other words, no single firm has any role in setting the market price and therefore
must take their prices from the industry.
Price taking is the primary condition of a perfectly competitive market. The two main characteristics
necessary for price taking include: having a large enough number of buyers and sellers in the
market so that each is only able to contribute a negligible amount to the total market supply and,
secondly, that firms produce homogenous products that are perfect substitutes for each other. In
order for a product to be considered a perfect substitute for another, each product must be
standardized and undifferentiated

Tea Cake And Janie s Relationship
Tea Cake is Janie s prince in shining armor. He is her fairytale ending, at least for now. Tea Cake
is the embodiment of true love. True love is expressed through respect, trust, and honesty. Tea
Cake not only does these things, but he also bases his happiness off of Janie s happiness,
believes that Janie s age is just a number, and eventually envelops Janie into his world. Tea Cake
loves Janie so much that whenever she is happy, he is happy. This normally only occurs in cases of
true love, because you need to be practically selfless in order to base your happiness solely on
someone else s. When Tea Cake comes back to the store a second time to see Janie, he started

Vergible Woods. While she does test him, and sees if he only married her for the money, the
original idea for testing him was not Janie s, but Pheoby s. Tea Cake also loves Janie enough to
fully embrace her in his world, and to be honest with her about what he is doing. When he comes
back after having left Janie alone for a day and a night, Tea Cake tells Janie about everything that
he did, and does not try to hide anything from her. He even tells her about his gambling, and does
not try to hide it from her. While he originally did try to keep her from his world, it was because
he thought that she would not have wanted to come, and that she would not have approved of
the company. However, as soon as he learns that she does not care about those things, he
promises to always bring her along, except to gambling games. When you truly love someone,
you do not feel the need to keep secrets from them, and your lives mesh together, and your
worlds combine. Tea Cake truly loves Janie, and combines her world of Eatonville with his world.
Tea Cake is everything that you could ask for in a relationship, and he is a surreal presence in Janie
s life. He is true

model the company had adopted to achieve these objectives.
New Century Financial Corporation was founded in 1995 went public in 1996 and was also listed

activities of the company included generating, retaining, selling, and servicing home mortgage

On the contrary, a firm belief existed in the company that external auditors showed their
unmistakable disdain for New Century Financial even when loan quality issues were revealed. As
audit examiner stated ВіSenior Management may have abdicated its responsibility to manage the

Although New Century Financial business risks involved a great portion of internal mistakes,
external factors such as Federal Reserve s monetary policy played a significant role in
deterioration of business opportunities for the New Century Financial Corporation. The baseline
interest rates were increased sharply in 2006 from 1.5 % to more than 5 %. Although such a hike
in the interest rates had been forecasted and anticipated since2003, the New Century Financial did
consider the flagship of tightening monetary policy. The increase in interest rate affected New
Century Financial in the way that the company s assets became riskier and more prone to financial
distress. Increased exposure of New Century Financial Corporation s assets to the risks

Domestic Violence Against Women
Introduction
On May 2, 1982, Michael Connell visited his estranged wife Karen and their son Ward. Karen
and Michael had been separated for more than a year but were seeing each other. A friend of
Ward s also visiting and the four of them were going on a picnic. They never made it. At around
noon, Karen staggered from the house, bleeding profusely from the neck. She collapsed into a
neighbor s arms, gasping that her husband had stabbed her and was still in the house with their 5
year old son and his friend. The South Pasadena Police arrived on the scene to investigate. After
several attempts to make contact with Michael or the children failed, they contacted the L.A.

To help determine if you have been a victim unaware let s define domestic violence or sometimes
called intimate partner violence (IPV) to determine if you or someone you know or love has ever
been a victim of domestic violence. Domestic violence as defined by The U.S. Office on Violence
Against Women (OVW) is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one
partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner. The definition adds that
domestic violence can happen to anyone regardless of race, age, sexual orientation, religion, or
gender , and that it takes many forms, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional or
psychological abuse, and verbal abuse.
Type of abuse
To gain a better understanding of these different types of forms that abuse may have let s
characterize the most common ones in detail:
Physical abuse is abuse involving contact intended to cause feelings of intimidation, pain, injury or
other physical suffering or bodily harm. It often includes hitting, kicking, biting, shoving,
restraining, slapping, punching, choking, and other types of contact that will result in physical
injury to the victim. Physical abuse can also include behaviors such as denying the victim of
medical care when needed, depriving the victim of sleep or other functions necessary to live, or
forcing the victim to engage in drug/alcohol against her will.
Sexual abuse is any situation in which force is used to

Essay on Comparison between Panama and the United Arab...
I chose to compare the United Arab Emirates to Panama because both countries are experiencing
significant economic growth even though many countries are experiencing problems with the
economy. Both countries are located in close proximity to important regional waterways. The
United Arab Emirates has the Straits of Hormuz, while Panama has the Panama Canal. The Strait of
Hormuz is a waterway between the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf. It is bordered by Iran,
United Arab Emirates, and Oman Musandam Peninsula. About 20% of all the world s petroleum
passes through the Strait of Hormuz. At its narrowest, it is 21 nautical miles wide. The Strait is
used to import and export items into the countries that border the strait,... Show more content on

Since 2008, the economy of the United Arab Emirates has been steadily increasing. In 2012, the
economy of the United Arab Emirates grew 4.4%. Panama also is experiencing a period of
significant economic growth. Over the past year, the economy of Panama grew 10%, putting
Panama as one of the fastest growing economies in the Latin American as well as in the world. I
believe the reason for such significant economic growth in both countries is mainly due to import
/export of goods through the waterways located by each country. United Arab Emirates had
imports totaling 273.5 billion dollars and exports totaling 314 billion in 2012. Panama s imported
goods totaled 26.61 billion dollars and exported goods totaled 18.87 billion dollars in 2012.
The top five products exported from the United Arab Emirates are crude petroleum, refined
petroleum, gold, petroleum gas, and raw aluminum. The top exported product is crude petroleum
which accounts for approximately 44% of all exported goods. The top five imported products are
jewelry, refined petroleum, broadcasting equipment, cars, and computers. The top imported good
is jewelry, which accounts for approximately 8.1% of all imported goods. The top five products
exported from Panama are antibiotics, refined petroleum, passenger and cargo ships, packaged
medicaments, and crude petroleum. Antibiotics is the top exported good accounting for
approximately 28% of all exported goods. The top five products imported into the country are

Phishing Is A Social Engineering Luring Technique
Phishing is a social engineering luring technique, in which an attacker aims to steal sensitive
information such as credit card information and online banking passwords from users. Phishing is
carried over electronic communications such as email or instant messaging. In this technique, a
replica of the legitimate sites is created, and the users are directed to the Phishing pages where it s
required for the personal information.
As phishing remains a significant criminal activity that causes great loss of money and personal
data. In respond to these threats, a variety of Anti Phishing tools was released by software vendors
and companies. The Phishing detection technique used by industries mainly includes attack tracing,
report generating filtering, analysing, authentication, report making and network law enforcement.
The toolbars like spoof guard, trust watch, spoof stick and Net craft are some of the most popular
Anti Phishing toolbars services that are used. The W3C has set some standards that are followed
by most of the legit websites, but the phishing site may not develop these standards. There are
certain characteristics of URL and source code of the Phishing site based on which we can guess
the fake site.
The goal of this paper is to compare different methods that are used to determine the phishing web
pages to safeguard the web users from attackers. In [2] lexical signature is extracted from a given

It s Time To End Poverty In The United States
Throughout years poverty has been an ongoing situation that has only been increasing throughout
the years. Many efforts have been issued by the government over the situation; but yet many of
those efforts have failed to succeed. Increased dependency is the only long term impact that
government efforts have had on poverty. By solving poverty the government could make the
economy grow more for everyone , because many people would be going back into the workforce.
The government has a responsibility to end poverty through providing education, better programs,
and jobs.
Poverty is the condition of being unable to obtain socially money or possessions. Poverty has been

Their are some drawbacks to ending poverty; If the government were to end poverty in the united
states it would take a lot of time and money. Their would also be many arguments over the topic
between wealthy people and poor people because the wealthier people would not benefit from it.
Which would eventually lead to a communism because if they were to solve poverty throughout
the united states there would have to be a tax implemented for it. Which is where the argument
would lead to; the tax that the people would have to pay. There would also be arguments over
blaming the poor because people against the situation would make the argument of it being the
individual s fault for putting themselves in a position like the one they are in. Overall solving
poverty has its pros and cons. Its pros would be that it would give many people a better life and
by providing education; they can have the opportunity to get better jobs. Solving poverty would
also bring our economy closer together. The cons of solving poverty would be that it would take a
lot of time ,money and it would lead to

Richard Fee Was A Potential Medical Student
Richard Fee was a potential medical student, an athlete on the baseball team and sophomore
class president. In 2008 he began to struggle with focusing on his studies and went to see a
doctor who believed he had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The doctor immediately
prescribed him Vyvanse for his ADHD. In 2008 after he graduated with a degree in biology, he
began to study hard for the medical school entry exams. (Schwarz 1) This caused him to make an
appointment to the nearby Triad Psychiatric and Counseling Center. The doctor concluded from
an 18 question survey that he had an inattentive type of ADHD. Richard Fee never had any signs
of ADHD before college, as a kid or young adult growing up. A nurse practitioner at the
psychiatric counseling center recorded that before, Richard s complaints about organization,
memory and attention to detail. , his speech was clear, his thought process goal directed and his
concentration attentive. (Schwarz 3) Transitioning into severe abuse, he would refill his
prescription multiple times a month when he wasn t even out of them. Then the side effects of
Vyvanse began to take place; Richard s sleep patterns became jumbled, he was in a dark
depressed mood and moved back in to his home in Virginia Beach with his parents. Richard began
to go through his medication expediently and would go through a whole months worth in a couple
weeks. Richard s behavior was spiraling out of control at this point. He then became paranoid

Mesh Editing with Poisson-Based Gradient Field Manipulation
Introduction
Three dimensional geometric models are the base data for applications in computer graphics,
computer aided design, visualization, multimedia, and other related fields. This report will focus on
computerized modeling editing of discrete (digital) geometry, in particular polygonal meshes. In
this report, I will survey the state of the art techniques for creating, manipulating, editing and
analyzing digital geometry models.
The mesh editing techniques we discussed here are : Poisson Shape Interpolation[1], Mesh Editing
with Poisson Based Gradient Field Manipulation[2], Mesh Editing based on Discrete Laplace and
Poisson Models[3], Mesh Editing with Curvature Flow Laplacian[4] and Mean Value coordinates
for Closed triangular meshes[5]. All the five techniques will be discussed in detail in section 2 6.
In section 7, we ll do a comprehensive comparison of these five techniques and conclude in section
8. Poisson Shape Interpolation
Shape interpolation which is also known as shape blending or morphing is used in many aspects
of computer graphics industry widely. Provided two input models, the shape interpolation will
produce a set of shapes in sequence to demonstrate how the source model is changed to the target
model smoothly. It can also be applied to forecast new product from known products.
It s well known that in B rep(boundary representation) shape interpolation[6], there are two major
issues which are correspondence problem and trajectory problem. The

  • 2. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bileaflet Valve Assignment 1 Part 1: Medical Device related to Human Biofluid Mechanics St. Jude Medical Bileaflet valve Defects in the valves of a heart can lead to regurgitation, and stenosis. Common symptoms include angina, shortness of breaths and heart failure. These defects affect the heart functionality. As a result, artificial heart valves are used to replace these defective valves. One artificial heart valve is the St. Jude Bileaflet valve. Long term studies have indicated that the St. Jude Medical mechanical heart valves demonstrates consistent hemodynamic (flow of blood through the heart valve) performance over time. The valves were made from silicon alloyed pyrolytic carbon due to its superior biocompatible, thromboresistant and wear resistant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be seen from the image where red blood cells and platelets are seen leaking back from the aorta into the left ventricle. These cells are subjected to non physiological flows, leading to activation or rupture, the first step towards initiation of the coagulation response when they flow through the valve. Major disadvantages of mechanical heart valves include their thromboembolic tendencies (thrombus formation), risks of blood cell damage (haemolysis), stenosis (tissue on the valve pannus) and the life reliance of anticoagulants with the risk of haemorrhage. Part 2: Shortcomings, and Improvements to the Device The ideal artificial heart valve should possess qualities like good hemodynamic performance and durability, freedom from thromboembolism, and ease of insertion. Improvement: Thicker cuff A thicker cuff with more intricate threads can allow a more secured grasp, positioning and alignment of the prosthetic valve with the vessel walls as compared to a thinner cuff. The thicker cuff will also be able to support a taller carbon orifice (mentioned later) as well as the high pressure in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. New Englander s Opposition Of The War Of 1812 New Englander s Opposition to the War of 1812 The War of 1812 was predominantly fought between the United States and the United Kingdom for a variety of complex reasons but most notably was caused by Britain s inability to treat the newly freed America as anything but a colonial body. Americans were overall outraged into war by their own government s sanctioned trade embargoes, the impressments of seamen by the United Kingdom, and interpersonal negative sentiments that greatly restricted America s trade with European nations (including the vital trade with Britain) and in effect: America s economy. American leaders at this point slightly miscalculated the effort by deciding to invade Canada as the only viable way to properly attack Great Britain; this created an aggressive beginning on America s part in this obscure war. The Treaty of Ghent ended the conflict in 1815 and said nothing about the major issues that caused the war and did not conclude in a victory for either side; it called for the return of preceding conditions before the war and did little to nothing to solve the tensions between these two major nations: the United States and the United Kingdom. So how did Americans feel about this unclear war? The War of 1812is America s most unpopular war as it is largely forgotten in our history. The New Englanders specifically opposed the war, with some Republicans lending a hand in the anti war effort. At this time New England was politically dominated by the ... Theoretical Assumptions Rheanna Glon 3338 Assignment 1b Theoretical Assumptions: There are five identified stages that students move through on their way to becoming conventional spellers: emergent spelling, letter name alphabetic spelling, within word patters spelling, syllables and affixes spelling, and derivational relations spelling. At each stage, students use different strategies and focus on particular aspects of spelling. Words Their Way is an instructional approach and a wonderful addition to word study. The best way I found to do this is by creating a positive, engaging, and relatable practice for her in the same type of learning environment. • 7. I Am Sweating Profusely I was sweating profusely. Of course, it was the middle of summer in Southern California; why wouldn t I be. In fact, in the dojo it was sweltering. That wasn t really why I was sweating though; this was the day of my test. I remember everyone was making jokes and frivolously making small talk, but it was only to pass time. I looked on the mat and noticed how big it was, how it could hold a hundred people; then I realized how observable every mistake I made would be with only a few testers on the floor. I looked around the room and saw the audience waiting, anxious for the event to start. To us testers, each one of them was another judge, watching our every move. I knew once I started my test, my focus wouldn t depart from my task. For now, all I could think about was what was about to happen. Thirty minutes until my test started and I was stretching. I remember trying to block out everything around me and recall why I was there. I had been training eight lengthy years for that day, and I had been training hard. If you had told ten years old me that I would still be doing this in eight years, I would ve been astounded. It started off as just a way for me to exercise but it had become so much more. I had made good friends, learned virtues like patience and diligence, and even changed me from a shy kid to a confident young adult. Though called the Assyrian genocide a better suited name would be the Assyrian/Syriac/Chaldean genocide. between the years 1914 1920 along with the better known Armenian genocide and the Greek genocide. This event was not the first tragedy in Syriac history as Byzantine oppression, slaughter at the hands of the Crusaders, and Mongol invasion occurred prior (The Syriac Orthodox Church a Brief Overview, NP). The rise of nationalism among the Christian citizens of the Ottoman Empire and the rise of the Young Turk government that preached a Turkey for the Turks was recipe for a disaster. The Young Turk government staged a successful coup in 1913. Following the entrance of the Ottoman Empire into World War I in November 1914 simultaneous genocides against Assyrians, Armenians, and Greeks occurred along with the help of Kurdish tribes. Victims were plundered, raped, deported, and massacred horrifically. The Assyrian genocide is treated slightly differently from that of the Armenians as there were no specific orders to attack and deport Assyrians from Ottoman leaders since they were not assisting the Russian Empire and did not desire their own nation state. The genocide was carried out by local leaders and Kurdish tribes. In some cities the entire adult populations were wiped out whereas in other cities such as Mardin only the male population was killed and the widows and children were forced to leave on foot which caused many more deaths. The deaths were not limited to just the Ottoman Empire as Assyrians in Persia were also slaughtered when the Ottoman Empire invaded northwestern Persia (The Assyrian Genocide, 1914 to 1923 and 1933 up to the Present, NP). The death toll was believed to be 300,000 Syriacs yet has only been recognized by the Swedish and Armenian Parliaments (Centenary of 1915 Syriac (Sayfo) genocide, NP). In addition, because of the different constraints between controlled environment in laboratories and the real world, we cannot use experiments to answer the question. Therefore, ethnography is the most suitable procedure to answer this question. To conduct my ethnography, I observed people who waited for their family members at the airport by sitting near the gate and watching their reactions. Without asking for their opinions or reasons about their behaviors, I eliminated potential Hawthorne effects which is people changed their actions once they realized that someone observed them. I paid attention to the number of people waiting together to determine the relationship between the waiting and arriving people, their actions while they waited and their reaction once they met their person. According to my observations, people brought the whole family with them if the person they waited for was part of a family and they were alone if the arrived person was one s boy/girlfriend. They had similar emotions such as being tired and bored while they waited. No one had any positive facial expressions but they refused to sit and wait in the back. Is there something societies around the world can do to halt the warming of the planet? What is the key to societies developing a sustainable world and how do environmental dynamics impact sustainability? These questions and others will be addressed from several perspectives in this paper. Is global warming due to human activities? The view of Scientists The most authoritative and objective source of information on climate change (or global warming, as some prefer to use) is the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a group that began researching climate change in 1992. The IPCC was launched by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organizations (WMO) in order to ...provide an objective source of scientific information (UN.org). It was clear by the middle of the 20th century, the UN explains, that as a ...side effect of the industrial age...human action had significantly increased the production of...carbon dioxide one of the main greenhouse gases that contributes to global climate change. The IPCC has its next major report due out in 2014, and while the IPCC does publish occasional white paper findings between their major reports, the most recent report is called the Climate Change 2007: Working Group I: The Physical Science Basis. • 11. Assessment Of Bod, Cod As Organic Pollution Indicator... ASSESSMENT OF BOD, COD AS ORGANIC POLLUTION INDICATOR LEVELS OF VARHALA LAKE ABSTRACT Lakes are of great importance both from the natural and economic point of view. Lake water is a source of drinking and domestic water supply for people living in and around the area. The present study was conducted to assess the organic pollution indicators like BOD, COD and DO. The sampling of water was based on human and aquatic activities around the lake. Water from five sampling stations of Varhala Lake was monitored for seasonal variations from May 2011 to April 2012. The BOD was positively correlated with COD of 0.609, as both are the products of oxidation. The correlation between DO and BOD, gave a negative relationship of 0.517 between two variables. Keywords: Water quality monitoring; pollution indicators; Varhala Lake INTRODUCTION Most of our water resources are gradually becoming polluted due to the addition of foreign materials from the surroundings. Rapid urbanization and industrialization has put a lot of pressure on the existing water bodies (Waziri et al., 2009; Sawant and Telave, 2009). Anthropogenic development and changes around lakes affects their ecosystems (Mouri, G et al 2011). Lakes have a complex and fragile ecosystem, as they do not have a self cleaning ability and therefore readily accumulate pollutants (Abida et al 2008; J.C Akan et al 2012). Continuous water quality monitoring is essential for efficient management of lakes and for control of pollution. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However some athletes use steroids anyway to get ahead of the competition. These action can cause athletes being kicked out of a game or even all future competition. Some people ask Why use steroids? Some athletes use drugs, where they can train their bodies hard and then have their bodies recover fast. Different types of athletes use steroids in different ways depending on what sport the athlete is partaking in. Depending on what the athlete is trying to achieve they will combine certain drugs to give them the result that they want(Knight 23). Another reason that some athletes may start to use... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of steroids has forever changed the face of professional sports, making it a world fueled by drug contacts instead of skill and talent. Roids, juice, hype, or pump are names that people may use when talking about steroids. Anabolic steroids are different from steroids medications. Anabolic steroids help build muscle, buy steroids can not help the ability and or skill of the athlete. Genetics, body size, age, sex, diet and how the athlete trains determines ability(State Health Department 1). Steroids fall into the category of ergogenic drugs. A drug that is classified as orogenetic is a substance that can be used to improve athletic performance. Other ergogenic drugs include prohormones, such as androstenedione and androstenediol, growth hormones, and nutritional supplements. While these substances may act on the body in different ways, the goals are the same: to gain muscles, increase endurance, and speed muscle and strength recovery. (Knight 7). Athletes who are doping rarely take one kind of drug. More commonly, they will do what is called stacking, which means combining a number of drugs in order to have the best chance at success. Unfortunately, stacking can also lead to overdose and greater chances of permanently damaging vital organs. (Knight 23). Even tho stacking is very bad for everyone, people ... Those who do, brag of its liveliness; those who don t, gawk at it. What isn t known is how the latin artist, whose culture places values on work and family much higher than creative expression, survives through such tyranny. Artists such as Gabriel Marquez and Gabriel Mistra use their culture to inspire their writing. Their work, much like the work of other writers and poets, is depressing to say the least. With no support from a community, these artists use metaphors, vivid imagery, and other effective literary devices in order to convey the neglect that they have grown accustomed to. Before we can begin to discuss this topic we first must look into the impact of waste and waste management, but more importantly what types of waste we produce. Most people really do not care about the environment until it impacts them or their family directly. How many times have you been driving down the road and watch someone throw trash out the window. Think about what you thought at that very moment. Now that you have the right mindset let s look into what wastewe produce. In 1987, Bram Stoker wrote the revolutionary tale Dracula that played off the fears of the people of the era. The plot and characters that make the novel great also translate nearly perfectly to cinematic adaptations. Starting in the early 1900 s, directors have done their best to portray the terror that the original novel inspired. Francis Ford Coppolas Bram Stoker s Draculawas released in 1992 and follows the book s storyline very closely. In the book, Harker slits his throat after a climatic chase and battle, and immediately turns to dust (Stoker 325). This battle still occurs in Coppola s version; however, he is eventually killed by Mina and the act is seen as one of compassion and kindness. Stoker does not explore this idea in his novel. Stoker does not explore this idea in the novel, as doing so would have taken away from the frightening, undead character that he was trying to create. This is not to say that Coppola was wrong to go this route, however, only that the perception of vampires had shifted and he needed something to fit along with this shift. On top of this, Coppola also decided to make his movie much more erotic portrayal of many characters in the film. The 1917 Film starring Theda Bara, had all the themes of a contemporary vision of Egypt being, exotic and alluring, but also alien and threatening. (Fear, 2008, AA100 DVD). The lawlessness of these men grew so unbearable that Lady Montague also observes and writes about, how tis the Emperor s interest to flatter [the janissaries] (Montagu, 105). What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Education With regard to bringing the most favorable educational environment for their children, parents take by far more options into consideration. Given the detrimental impacts exerted by either defiant peers or inappropriate teaching programs, some people could argue that early schooling is disadvantageous to children s development. However, I still hold a very firm belief in positive and long lasting effects of schooling on children s acquisition of knowledge and socioemotional progression. One of primary arguments in support of schooling is that early educational provision is the driving force of children s subsequent academic attainment. According to the NICHD Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development, sterling early childhood educationmakes a contribution to more encouraging vocabulary results through fifth grade and academic proficiency at 15 years of age (Belsky et al., 2007). It is abundantly evident that schools function as an academic context where children not only acquire the very fundamental competencies namely reading, writing, and computation but they are also academically motivated by special policies and practices. Through these ideas could be somewhat correct, they barely cover up government s influence and the minimal impact of common civilians. In Marie Lu s Legend and Andrea White s Surviving Antarctica: Reality TV 2083, one can conclusively recognize the striking resemblance between the novel and the modern government of the People s Republic of China. The seemingly picturesque landscapes often obscure the reality that the Chinese government often oppresses freedoms of expression, violates basic human rights, give the population little control over the government and its rulers, and controls most of the country s education and news. As in many preset day governments, and the governments depicted in the books, China considerably restricts its citizen s rights to speech and the press. In Legend, the people must be careful of what they say, as it could bring them serious consequences. For example, after Day is executed according the government, talk of him living spreads extremely quickly but only in the shadows, as it was dangerous if the government overheard; the person could be locked up or even worse. Earlier, when June spread news about the Arcadia bank, she sent out scouts, one per sector, to talk about giving Day plague medicine if he comes to the ten second place. The spreading of this news shows how easy it is for the government to purposefully spread news, not simply restricting speech but surreptitiously and indirectly forcing it taking advantage of the people s interest ... But the question on most high school graduates minds is about what to study in college and dedicate the rest of there life to. Many students pursue a liberal education or a career education in college. In my opinion a career educationis an important use of a collegeeducation because it is more applicable than a liberal arts education in a job setting in today s capitalist society. Overall, reconstruction was positive because it brought many affirmative changes for African Americans. First of all, the actions taken by the government to ensure that Freedmen in the South were protected during the reconstruction was the establishment of the Freedmen s Bureau. The Freedmen s Bureau was established in March 1865, which helped African Americans achieve economic stability and secure political freedoms. Some of the things the Freedmen s Bureau did was ensure that the former slaves earned fair and equal wages. Analysis of Market Structures An Analysis of Market Structures and Their Related Pricing Strategies Christa Jones American Public University Systems Abstract Market structures influence a firm s behavior and profit opportunity and are therefore critical to understanding how a market functions. The conditions that distinguish each market structure define the level of competition observed within the market which in turn determines the profit level that can be made. Because pricing strategies are intended to maximize a firm s profit, understanding market competition is necessary when deciding an appropriate pricing strategy approach. The third section of this paper gives the pricing strategy for a real world firm for each market structure. An Analysis of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This section will provide a detailed analysis of the four market structures. Each analysis will describe the characteristics that are found within a market structure and describe how these characteristics influence a firm s behavior and profit opportunity. Perfect Competition A perfectly competitive market is one where competition between firms is intense; the market is considered concentrated. The characteristics of a perfectly competitive market include having a large number of firms in the market, homogeneous products, no entry or exit barriers, no non price competition or external costs or benefits, perfect knowledge, and zero control over the market price or conditions. These characteristics create a condition in which the firms in a market act as price takers; in other words, no single firm has any role in setting the market price and therefore must take their prices from the industry. Price taking is the primary condition of a perfectly competitive market. The two main characteristics necessary for price taking include: having a large enough number of buyers and sellers in the market so that each is only able to contribute a negligible amount to the total market supply and, secondly, that firms produce homogenous products that are perfect substitutes for each other. In order for a product to be considered a perfect substitute for another, each product must be standardized and undifferentiated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mesh Editing with Poisson-Based Gradient Field Manipulation Introduction Three dimensional geometric models are the base data for applications in computer graphics, computer aided design, visualization, multimedia, and other related fields. This report will focus on computerized modeling editing of discrete (digital) geometry, in particular polygonal meshes. In this report, I will survey the state of the art techniques for creating, manipulating, editing and analyzing digital geometry models. The mesh editing techniques we discussed here are : Poisson Shape Interpolation[1], Mesh Editing with Poisson Based Gradient Field Manipulation[2], Mesh Editing based on Discrete Laplace and Poisson Models[3], Mesh Editing with Curvature Flow Laplacian[4] and Mean Value coordinates for Closed triangular meshes[5]. All the five techniques will be discussed in detail in section 2 6. In section 7, we ll do a comprehensive comparison of these five techniques and conclude in section 8. Poisson Shape Interpolation Shape interpolation which is also known as shape blending or morphing is used in many aspects of computer graphics industry widely. Provided two input models, the shape interpolation will produce a set of shapes in sequence to demonstrate how the source model is changed to the target model smoothly.
