Corporal Punishment Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of corporal punishment involves navigating through a complex
web of historical, sociological, psychological, and ethical considerations. The difficulty lies not
only in presenting factual information but also in delving into the underlying debates and
controversies that surround this contentious issue. To do justice to the topic, one must explore
the historical context of corporal punishment, examining its roots and evolution over time.
Additionally, delving into sociological perspectives is crucial, as it requires an understanding of
how different cultures and societies perceive and implement corporal punishment.
The psychological aspect adds another layer of complexity. Analyzing the impact of corporal
punishment on individuals, especially children, demands a nuanced approach. One must consider
the various psychological theories that shed light on the consequences of physical discipline,
weighing the potential long-term effects on mental health and behavior.
Furthermore, addressing the ethical dimension of corporal punishment necessitates a thoughtful
exploration of competing moral frameworks. This involves grappling with questions about the
rights of parents, the role of the state in regulating disciplinary practices, and the broader
implications for societal norms and values.
The challenge in writing such an essay also lies in maintaining a balanced perspective.
Acknowledging the diverse viewpoints and controversies surrounding corporal punishment
requires a delicate balance of presenting evidence and fostering critical thinking. The writer must
navigate through the emotionally charged nature of the topic, ensuring objectivity and sensitivity
in the discourse.
In conclusion, composing an essay on corporal punishment demands a comprehensive
understanding of its multifaceted nature, requiring research across disciplines and the ability to
engage with conflicting perspectives. It's an intellectual journey that goes beyond surface-level
discussions, inviting writers to explore the depth of the subject matter and draw meaningful
conclusions.

Essay on It s a Sweet Depression
Lacuna strung her fingers through the tangled tags of her hair, winding up the
frayed end of a braid and tucking it behind one ear like an undone thread, poorly
mended. She had picked up a knack for twining braids from Stockholm of all
creatures; he had a penchant for taming anything that grew wild and her hair was
the frequent target of his nit picky touch. At ungodly hours of the morning he
would wring her out of bed like a drooling puddle of dreams. His beetle browed
face would blot out the cold morning light as he crowded over her and barked his
daily dose of discouragement, Woman, your hair is a tragedy! And, utterly uncaring,
she would toss herself back to the mercy of her sheets and with a rebellious groan

Now, her lips played out the beginnings of a smile, but reviving the tired expression
was starting to feel like digging trenches through concrete. It made her sore all
over, a running ache that seemed to swirl like a river, tugging at the soles of her
feet, willing her to move. Suddenly she wanted to grab her sword and run off with
the night, take solace under the stars. The events of the evening were tumbling
through her mind, and she had a galling suspicion that she had chosen the wrong
course. Perhaps Ramona was not the girl she should have selected for her Starry
Night tryst. And, of course, her heart was laughing at her all the way: like she ever
had a choice in the matter, like she wasn t just a meaningless bag of biological
parts with her free will skewered in the steel trap of fate and providence. For a
change, she was stumped. She had stood at the helm of the conversation for so
long that she was leery of resigning herself to a becalmed silence. But Lacuna hadn
t seen the girl take many liberties to speak her mind, and in a way this was
worrisome. On the face of it, Ramona seemed easily flustered, as tractable as the
valley s native mareep, warming readily to companionship of any kind. However, the
girl s reticence could be symptomatic of her
The Dilemma of Macular Degeneration Essay
The Dilemma of Macular Degeneration
According to Baily and Hall, while visual impairment early in life is associated with
inherited congenital disorders, abnormal fetal devepment, and problems associated
with premature birth, most eye conditions are associated with aging. They claim that
over 70% of the visually impaired population in the United States is over 65. Age
related maculopathy, also called macular degeneration, or AMD, impairs the center of
vision in older individuals. The macula is the region in the back of the retina that
surrounds and includes the fovea (Goldstein 1999). It is important to understand that
when this degeneration progresses enough, the condition constitutes blindness
because the foveal area is what is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Danger can exist for victims of the condition when simply walking down the street or
even through their own homes. While there is yet no cure for macular degeneration
the research is in progress. Two main areas of research include investigating the
causes and exploring potential treatments.
According to Friedman, progress in the effort to stop or prevent AMD will be
slow until the cause is learned. He claims retinal pigmant epithelium damage to be
the prominant theory explaining the choroidal circulation changes that lead to
AMD. Although Friedmal himself does not subscribe to this theory, other
researchers do and use it as a basis for study. Grunwald, Harisprasad, Dupont, M. G.
Mguire, Fine, Bruker, A.M. Maguire, and Ho compared choroidal blood flow in
subjects with AMD to a control group. They used laser doppler flowmetry to asess
the volume, velocity, and flow of blood in the center of the fovea. Ten subjects
with no drusen (cellular debris) were compared to 20 subjects with ten or more
large drusen. The average visual acuities of the two groups was very close. No
significant differences between age, blood pressure, or intraocular pressure was
revealed between the subjects. Spraul, G. E. Lang, Grossnik laus, and G. K. Lang
questioned the validity of the study. They claim doppler flowmetry to be an imperfect
method for such a study because of multiple light scattering properties of the tissue.

events to qualify as a MAC is extremely high in Delaware courts.60
Why would bidders as sophisticated as TPG and Warburg agree to terms that seem
so skewed towards the sellers? In their own words, they were very comfortable with
the process. 61 They negotiated MAC clauses with the banks providing debt
financing that mirrored almost perfectly the MAC clause in the sales agreement, so
they were very confident that their banks would show up. 62 Second, Neiman was
negotiating from a position of strength: it was a highly respected company and there
was significant interest in the auction. In short, TPG/Warburg really wanted the
company and believed that they would be able to close the transaction, so they were
willing to accept fairly restrictive deal protections. Finally, to mitigate the buyers
financing risk, Neiman s bankers at Goldman Sachs offered potential buyers stapled
financing for the deal.63 This creates for buyers a convenient negotiation floor vis Г

Moreover, stapled financing may enable buyers to bid more boldly by guaranteeing
the availability of financing on certain terms.

The Real Santa Claus Similarities
The Real Santa Claus
Saint Nicholas was a rich, kind Bishop who lived in the fourth century in Asia
Minor. Santa Claus, as seen in the 1994 movie, The Santa Clause, is portrayed as a
rosy cheeked, chubby divorced father who carries a cashmere bag of toys into homes
of good children. While these two tales are many, many centuries apart, it is
interesting to see how it has evolved over time and the similarities and differences
between them. Santa Claus, from The Santa Clause (1994) movie, may have more
similarities to the tale from the fourth century than what we think. St. Nicholas

Catawba Industrial Company
Marge McPhee, general manager of the compressor manufacturing department of
Catawba
Industrial Company, quickly spotted the reports that she had been waiting for in the
pile of mail that had accumulated during her trip to a West Coast industrial equipment
trade show. A sales forecast and a costtabulation for a proposed new, light weight
compressor provided her with the information she needed to ascertain whether or not
to introduce it, what volume to produce, and what price to charge. Catawba Industrial
Company, located west of Charlotte, North Carolina, was a major supplier of
automatic industrial paint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Light Weight Compressors
Because of its design, the new compressor could be manufactured on Catawba s new
numerical control machinery instead of the older equipment used to make the
standard unit. As a result, each unit required only 62.5 hours of direct labor as
compared to the 100 hours for the standard model. The cost savings in labor and
materials were partly offset by the higher depreciation charges resulting from the use
of more expensive machinery. The company had added certain features to the
machinery center to accommodate the manufacturing process for the new compressor.
The extra hardware and hoists already installed had cost $417,000. Additional jigs,
sensors, and software were expected to add another $218,000 to this total. Both these
amounts had been taken into account in calculating the depreciation charge for the
new compressors.
As Marge prepared to analyze the numbers, she was relieved to see that despite the
high costs for the new compressor, it could still generate a higher profit than the
standard unit. With that bit of encouragement, she set out to calculate the price and
volume for the new compressor that would result in the best financial return. Because
of practical difficulties in changing purchasing orders, production scheduling, and
price lists, Catawba had a policy of limiting any changes to
Aristide s Totalitarian Government
The 1994 Haiti intervention illustrated unsuccessful national security leadership. The
elected president Jean Bertrand Aristide of Haiti was overthrown by a military coup
that returned Haiti to an authoritarian regime, however re establishment of democracy
was desired by the U.S. and the United Nations (UN). Though Aristide s government
was re established on behalf of a U.S. controlled multinational force military
intervention, the Aristide government was weak, incompetent, and corrupted
(Baumann, 1998). President Clinton and his administration took diplomatic action
that brought about change in leadership in Haiti. This change in leadership involved
the first democratic elected president, Jean Bertrand Aristide in 1991 who was
quickly overthrown by a military coup and Haiti was controlled by a military regime.
According to Baumann (1998) president Aristide had little political experience and
was hardly qualified to lead a country. A military intervention was needed to restore
democracy to Haiti, however the president George H.W. Bush and his administration

Bush and his administrationdid enforce a trade embargo, however President Clinton
took military action during his presidency because he believed it was a concern of
national security. The Clinton administration believed there was a major concern for
national security, for example Hyland (1999) describes Clinton s rationale that the
Haitian refugee problem would be solved by restoring democracy to Haiti. Manning
(1994) explains that Haiti was geographically close to the U.S, therefore president
Clinton s reasoning for an intervention in Haiti was a national interest and the U.S.
had moral obligation to promote democracy. Buchsbaum (1994) states that the U.S.
military objective was to drive the military regime out of office and restore Aristide
to power. The U.S. controlled multinational force invaded Haiti, calling it Operation

a large number of sellers, thus leaving the consumer only a certain number of
companies from which to purchase an automobile. The major manufacturers include

The front line workers in manufacturing, production, and sales of the auto industry
generally require minimal education and receive on the job skill training. These
workers may have a high school diploma and great variance in skill level for
manufacturing and sales. They will receive the training needed on the job and their
wages will not greatly vary; therefore, the effect of changes in training and wages for
those workers of the industry would be considered minimal in changes to the supply
curve. For this group, advances in technology would have a greater impact. In
reviewing the labor supply for the business segment of the automobile industry such
as business management, engineering, and marketing, this is the population of the
industry which must: understand and keep track of changing consumer demands,
understand how to maximize opportunity for growth, how to forecast, how to
market, and be innovative in design and features of automobiles as technology
continues to advance and the market remains competitive. According to the
Consumer Population Survey (CPS), in 2011 the U.S. Labor Force, age 25 and
older, with only a high school education made up over three and a half million
potential laborers; while in the same year, those unemployed with a college degree
equated to around two million (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2012). Therefore, the total
Csr And Corporate Social Responsibility
ABSTRACT Different scholars and professors have defined CSR or Corporate
Social Responsibility in many ways. Generally, CSR includes the responsibilities
that businesses hold towards the societies they carry their operations in (Cadbury,
2006). The European Commission defines CSR as a concept whereby companies
decide voluntarily to contribute to a better society and a cleaner environment. A
more specific definition of CSR explains that businesses must identify their
stakeholder groups and understand their needs and values and take those values into
their operational and strategic decision making process (Cadbury, 2006). For a

The four previously mentioned companies, carry around a positive reputation
whenever they are mentioned. They are considered the most reputable around the
world, thus there is a type of a Halo Effect that goes around them anytime they are
mentioned. Besides being very popular and famous for their donations, all four
companies are extremely active and genuine in all perceptions that measure or drive
CSR. In order to act responsibly in a society, a company must first understand the
elements of a successful CSR practice within an organization. First step starts with
getting the support and participation of high profile executives that are willing to
stand up for the strategy of practicing more social responsible operations. Then
creating a visionary document in order for the public and stakeholders to read and
see the ambitions and goals of the organization.

The King And Queen Of Monsters
Your fingers flew across the keyboard of your laptop, so a crisp clicking noise
echoed through the quiet cafГ©. You stopped for a second to skim your eyes over
the text you just wrote. You were documenting your opinion about the recent
meeting that the King and Queen of monsters had with the officials. It hadn t
turned out well. The officials were stiff and stubborn. Refusing to even listen to
their requests. You heaved a heavy sigh and picked up your coffee cup, turning it
in your hands as you allowed your mind to wander. It had been just a few months
since the monsters moved to the surface, and as suspected, some people weren t
taking very well. Except for a group called the MRO. It stood for the Monster
Rights Organization, it was a small group started by the Human Ambassador of the
monsters (and the King and Queen) in hopes of getting more rights and supporters
for the monsters. Not many people had joined, but you were one of the exceptions.
Hoping to keep a low profile (but still be a help), you started an anonymous blog
where you spread the word about monster rights and helped to encourage people to
take a stand. You were brought out of your thoughts by the ringing of a bell. You
turned to see two monsters walk into the cafГ©. You almost dropped your coffee.
They were skeletons. Moving (alive?) skeletons. This was your first time actually
seeing a monster in person. Normally you kept your distance and watched the events
and meetings on TV. You tried to act casual
Should Women Be Allowed At The Frontline Essay
Should women be allowed at the frontline?
It could be argued that women should be allowed to enrol and fight at the frontline
of our British armed forces, up from December 2014 this has been fiercely debated
by the ministry of defence to permit women the privilege of fighting alongside men
who can fight at the frontline, this could only be accepted if women are able to reach
the standard of this role, only 34 women will be tough enough to participate fighting
at the frontline.
The first female to lead an all male squadron has warned that allowing women at the
front line could make the British forces less effective, major Judith Webb said that
women are physically different than men even though she believed in equality herself.
The ministry of defence are making a historic adjustment to see if women should be
able to serve in the infantry and also in the tank regiments, female fighters should be
in combat roles at the end of 2016,if this does happen then women will be expected
to take the same physical tests as men.
Reviews say that on current levels of recruitment around seven women a year would
be able to surpass through training so this could qualify for the British armed forces.
Only about 14 women would be able to be eligible for the armed forces and six for
Vacation Vs My Dream Vacation
My Typical Vacation vs. My Dream Vacation
I take a vacation every year, and every year it s the same thing a week of camping
at a campground one hour from our home. But I dream of a vacation in which I
take a cruise to some exotic location or stay at an all inclusive resort on an island
where I can be pampered and thrilled at the same time. Both of these vacations are
good, and both certainly offer me time away from work in which I can have a
respite from impending deadlines, a demanding boss, and grumbling clients. In
addition, both can even offer me the outdoor time soaking up the natural world my
spirit seems to need. And to be clear, family memories, which are so important to me,
can be made on both vacations. Yet, the differences between my dream vacation and
my typical camping vacation are distinct, which is why I still yearn for that dream
vacation that I have yet to take.
To begin with, both vacations are different in purpose. We go camping because it
is inexpensive; raising children costs money, and camping is an inexpensive yet
fun way for us to make family memories yet still afford things for the children like
nice clothes, extracurricular activities like football and piano lessons, and fun
activities like going bowling with friends. The cost of a camping vacation is
minimal, particularly if we use the same supplies year after year. We sleep on the
ground in a tent we have used for ten years. We cook our own food over a campfire,
and our daily
The Conflict Between The Palestinian And Israeli Conflict
Over the last few decades, there has been ever increasing dispute between the
Palestinian and Israeli people, mostly regarding territorial issues. Such disputes have
been the result of thousands of deaths, including citizens on both sides, and even
assassinations of political members. The continuous tension over time has divided the
people into various groups, either political or militant, further separating any attempts
towards making peace. When the overall conflict is analyzed from its inception until
now, there is much to be taken into consideration. Many questions can be raised
through is analyzation. Therefore, in order to understand how the conflict has
reached such high levels of pandemonium, all of its timeline must be broken down.
From the wars committed between the two groups to the various peace proposals
made, the constructed hostility has become a fluctuating mess. In utilizing the areas
written records, it may be possible to establish a coherent conclusion of the
situation, by using both its history, and attempted solutions. In doing so, one may be
able to better understand both sides of the people, and the land they claim.
Moreover, the most important question of the problematic situation may be able to
be answered; who is to blame? The overall conflict can be summed up into basically
one major issue, an issue between two groups claiming the same land. Beginning near
the end of World War I, the British and French gained the power to mandate territories
The Piano Lesson by August Wilson Essay
The Piano Lesson by August Wilson: The Wisdom of the Ivories Can a treasured
object of the past serve as a teacher for the future? Once people share the historical
significance of it, an object can symbolize the overcoming of hardships of those lives
in which it becomes a part. Therefore, it may indeed instruct future generations to
glean wisdom from the past. August Wilsons play The Piano Lessoncenters on the
trials and triumphs of a family affected by the enslaving of their ancestors and by
current racial prejudice. An embellished piano, which bears the carved images of
their enslaved ancestors accounts for the conflict that the Charles face. The Charles

Boy Willie states, Papa Boy Charles brought that piano into the house. Now I m

build a life for himself. Berniece says, Money can t buy what that piano cost. You
can t sell your soul for money (Wilson 50). She believes if they sell the piano, she
risks losing part of her identity. With tender sentiment, Berniece relishes the
determination of her ancestors to appreciate life and the love they had for one
another in the face of slavery. Boy Willie says, See, you just looking at the
sentimental value...You can sit up here and look at that piano for the next hundred
years and it s just gonna be a piano (Wilson 51). Berniece s pertinacious refusal to
part with the piano emanates from her sentimental devotion to it and the memory
of her ancestors. Therefore, Berniece characterizes herself through the piano as it
brings the beauty of the past generations to their lives (Wilson 50, 52). Boy Willie
defines himself as an African American who declares his equality as a man and
seeks to enhance his self worth by becoming a land owner (Wilson 51, 94).
Therefore, he values the piano for its potential to raise his personal quality of life
through a financial gain. The significance of the piano resides in the differing
viewpoints of each sibling.

Comparing City Life with Countryside Life Essays
Way of life differs when people live in different places. No doubt that people lifestyle
will be influenced by the society and surrounding environment where they live in.
City life and countryside life are obviously very different in several ways, such as
population, environment, and utilities. First, citylife and countryside life are different
from population. In big cities there are many people who live there, because job
opportunities are abundant and the opportunity of better education. In fact, people
live in urban areas because they want to have good jobs to get more money, and one
of the best ways to achieve that is education. Nowadays, there are a lot of good

These absences of stressors can have a great effect on the overall quality of life
and as one researcher notes, People who are living in rural and low density
populated areas are less likely to have mental health problems than those living in
urban areas and may also less likely to be exposed to depression cases or mental
illness once they have recovered from these in more densely populated areas
(Combs, 2006). Third, city and countryside are different in term of services. In big
cities people are modern; they use much more modern technology, feel safe under
the protection of security, and many other services that make their live much
easier such as transportation and health care. First of all, people use modern
technology such as computers, cell phones and internet. Second of all, the
government provides security in various ways to protect people. Third of all, city
transportations are developed well, people can travel easily, and they are many
ways of transportation they can choose to travel with, such as cars, metros, ships,
and plans . Finally, big cities are not only big modern cities originally but also a face
of a country, so government always supports the best ways and medical services for
people. For example, if a country is suffered by a spreading virus such as the swine

Young adults go through many changes during their adolescent developmental
years, including cognitive, emotional, and social development. Isabella Swan, the
main character of the movie Twilight, shows the audience a great visual
representation of how she goes through emerging adulthood. Isabella, or Bella for
short, is a teen girl in high school who just moved to a new city, Forks, Washington,
with her father whom she had not seen since she was a child. After her mom made
the decision to move from their home in Arizona and travel the country with her
husband who played baseball, Bella was shipped off to her dad s to finish out high
school like a normal kid. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She does, however, have a desire to learn new things and achieve great
accomplishments. On the other hand, Bella lacks the desire to be an active
member of a social group, usually distancing herself from many of her friends.
Another thing to note in this category is that all of Bella s new friends in her high
school were the ones to pursue the friendship while she simply accepted the offer.
This proves that Bella is extremely self dependent. Continuing in Vygotsky s
cognitive development theories, Bella successfully shows the audience a multitude
of examples of his theories. The second theory, private speech, which Vygotsky
believed was the most powerful tool when it comes to human learning. Bella does
not use private speech in the typical way it is meant to be used, rather she uses it to
help herself through difficult and challenging situations she was faced with. An
example of this is when Bella spoke quietly to herself while researching vampires
after her intuition that Edward Cullen, an isolated and mysterious peer turned
boyfriend, was one. Lastly, the scaffolding theory, which is also presented in an
unusual way in the movie. Rather than Bella experiencing scaffolding through an
apprenticeship and higher education, she uses Edward as a mentor like figure into
the vampire world. For example, after Edward shows Bella his super speed and
ability to jump long distances, she is breath taken. She says things aren t like this
Gymnopedie No 1 Analysis
When you listen to Erik Satie s Gymnopedie No. 1 you are struck with a sullen,

you feel sad? Many people who are untrained in music will have a simple
explanation such as it s because it s slow or because it s in a minor key . While yes
it is at a slow 78 bpm but anybody with a trained ear can tell that it s in the key of D

Why Was The Mayflower Compact
Most of the settlers who came to America were not in search of wealth, but of
freedom of religion. After many religious wars including the Protestant Reformation,
settlers eventually decided to create a written document that would aim for general
good in the colony as a whole. This document was called the Mayflower Compact,
which led the colony to a prosperous future. Back in England, King Charles I gave a
certain group of Puritans permission to create a joint stock company. One man
named John Winthrop, along with many other Puritans, believed that the morals in
England were out of sorts. As a result, they left and came to America where they
created the city upon a hill which was intended to be a model society for how
everyone and every community should live. Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson
were dissenters from this group who were both banished.
1.Why was the Mayflower Compact significant? The Mayflower Compact caused
settlers to further promise to abide by the laws that were created to benefit the people
and the general good of the colony. The Mayflower Compact was the written
document in which the settlers wrote their own laws and restrictions and chose
officials and authority figures. The Mayflower Compact set a precedent for future
generations because, even now, Americans abide by the laws that are on a written
document, which includes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Winthrop passed this ideology to other Puritans who were in search of an answer in
life. He told the Puritans that if they bound themselves together, God would protect
them and ensure their prosperity. He truly believed that he and the Puritans could be
as a City Upon a Hill. He believed that their society could be a model for all
communities around them, and that all eyes would be on them. The Puritans
believed that a covenant had been formed between them and God, requiring them to
build a society based solely on teachings from the
Matthew And Mark Gospel Comparison Essay
Mark is said to be the oldest written gospel but the literature never mentioned the
author s name. Mark was a rather powerful story of Jesus, which includes Jesus
development through his path of becoming the anointed one (Millar, 2010, p. 19).
However Matthew is very similar yet contrasting to marks gospel; the gospel was a
very influential gospel until the modern times. The Gospel became powerful because
Matthew claimed to be the first follower of Jesusand the gospel was part of the New
Testament (Millar, 2010, p. 61). In addition it covered almost mark s entire gospel
making mark s Gospel unnecessary. This paper will aim to comparing and contrast
Gospel of Mark and Gospel of Matthew; although both the Gospels are very similar
they portray... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gospel of Matthew differs from the teaching approach of Marks. Jesus
teachings in Matthew are very direct whereas Marks Gospel is vague and not as
detailed. Gospel of Marks is story of Jesus as a servant someone who helpful and
can do anything for the good of people. Whereas, Matthew emphases Jesus as a
King, someone who is keeps all that is promised by the prophets in the old
testaments. Mark defines Jesus in a very mysterious character to be very
mysterious as Jesus frequently commands people that he helps not to tell anyone.
This shows that Jesus wanted to be a mystery. In addition Mark 16:1 8 he
commands the women not to tell anyone as she see s the open tomb Even the
ending, of the gospel where there is just an empty tomb he commands the women
to tell no one (Mark 16:1 8). Whereas, in Gospel according to Matthew Jesus is
straightforward. He is expressive does not care to be kept a secret. In addition,
Matthew portrayal of Jesus is more forgiving while Marks portrayal of Jesus is
based on the influence. For example, in Matthew 8:23 27 while there is a storm
coming his disciples show their belief in his power by not questioning him.
Whereas, in Mark 4:35 41 the disciples question Jesus not understanding his power.
This shows that Matthew portrayed Jesus as being powerful and the faith of the
disciples to be strong differing from
The Effectiveness Of The Supervision Styles
Throughout this paper, with the aid of Gibbs Model of reflection, refer to
appendix one (shaaban, 2014), I will reflect on the efficacy of the supervision
styles I experienced throughout my degree at my clinical site. These styles are
direct supervision and in direct supervision. I will evaluate the strengths and
weaknesses of each style and how it impacted my learning. I will take into
consideration the effect it had on my own learning and how I can use this lesson to
ensure I have a positive impact on students I supervise in the future as a new
graduate MRT. Description During the first half of the degree, students must have
direct supervision from a qualified radiographer. Direct supervision is where the
supervisor oversees activities as they occur and provides constant direction, feedback,
and assistance(wiseGEEK, 2014). This is necessary in the clinical setting for junior
students so the supervisor can step in and help stabilize the situation if it gets out of
control, which is very important for health and safety reasons (wiseGEEK, 2014).
Feelings The main learning point in the first year in the clinical setting were common
examinations such as chest x rays and becoming confident communicating with
patients (unitec.ac.nz, 2014). Initially I felt intimidated and anxious in this
environment because I had someone that I had just met, watching and listening to
everything I said and did. This is fairly common and is referred to as supervision
induced anxiety
How Does Maus Conform To Art Spiegelman
Art Spiegelman s genre transcending work
Maus is a graphic novel by Art Spiegelman, serialized from 1980 to 1991. It tells
the story of Art Spiegelman s father, Vladek, a Polish Jew and Holocaust survivor; it
tells the story of the relationship between Art and his father, complicated by his father
s Holocaust trauma; and Maus tells the story of the relationship between Art and his
artwork. A remarkable work, Maus is for sure. Not only is the use of a comic book
format daring for a horrible topic as the Holocaust, Maus also defies definition in
terms of genre. A biography, memoir, autobiography, history, or a mix of genres?
Fiction or non fiction? Maus remains rather unclassifiable.

Introduction
A generation can be defined as the period, cohort or age of a group of people. Age
is seen as the age that the persons were when particular transitions or events in life
take place. Period can be defined as the overall experience of a person s lifetime.
Lastly, cohort can be seen as the overall grouping of people who have shared events
during their formative years that more than likely contribute to like minded behavior
throughout the duration of their lives. There are currently four generations in United
States society: Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X and The Millennials.
The silent generation was born between the years of 1930 and 1945. Significant
events during this time period include but are not limited to World War II and the
Great Depression. The baby boomer generation was born between the years of 1946
and 1964. Significant events for this generation include the substantial growth of
the middle class as well as economic prosperity. Generation X is born in the time
period of 1965 1979, this generation was brought together by the big energy issue as
well as the Vietnam War. Lastly the final generation that is currently in the workforce
are the Millennials. This generation was born between the years 1980 and 2001, this
group is brought together by the 9/11 terrorist attacks as well as the internet
Locke Vs Rousseau
John Locke and Jean Jacques Rousseau are great political philosophers that have
many similar insights about society and its political form. However, when closely
examining the writings of these thinkers, one can easily discover many subtle
differences among them. The two philosophers base their theories on different
assumptions, which subsequently lead to dissimilar ideas about the origin of society
and the constitution of governments. As a result, their views of the development of
society greatly dissent from each other. Locke s and Rousseau s different versions in
the development of society cause them to reach disparate conclusions concerning the
legislative power, social unit, and revolution rights of the society. Locke believes that

Locke indicates that, by giving up some of one s rights, the state gains legislative
power and is obliged to use this power to make laws that benefit the people, who
hired it. Locke writes that, This legislative is not only the supreme power of the
common wealth, but sacred and unalterable in the hands where the community
have once placed it...over whom no body can have a power to make laws, but by
their own consent, and by authority received from them. (XI 134) Rousseau argues
that the state should not be able to acquire legislative power, but simply acts as an
executive. He claims that the legislative power comes from the people, for the
sovereign is simply the general will of everyone, in which the state should obey
and enforce. Rousseau states that, Each of us puts his person and all his power in
common under the supreme control of the general will, and, as a body, we receive
each member as an indivisible part of the whole ( ), showing that the aggregate
mind of the people, the general will, has the legislative power as all powers are
given to it. Locke stresses individualism in a society, while Rousseau bases the
majority of his political theory on the submission to the general will, which is a
collective unit. Locke emphasizes that in a society, one should still preserve life,
liberty, and property. He claims that instead of being one

their careers and interest. This course is a great opportunity to have guests
speakers who are already employed as designer come in and inform us about the
life after college. The professor searched for designers mostly one that graduated

successful. Every single speaker was unique in his or her own way. The last
speaker we had was Manfred Westreicher who talked about his experienced, his
freelance work, and gave tips to improve our designing skills. Even though these

Our last speaker Manfred was born in Peru and is 28 years old. He went to school at

with the AKTG incorporation also known as Vocal Point. Vocal point is a

Midsummer Night s Dream Puck Essay
In this play called the Midsummer night s dream it talks about this crazy love
rectangle between Hermia, Demetrius, Helena and Lysander. These characters are
important but not as important as this little fairy named Puck is a rebel in some
way with his idea and using flowers to make people fall in love with each other
throwing off the balance of lovein this play.
In this play it makes puck seem like the main character or the most important
character by the way he talks in the play it s very different from other characters
the also play a big part. When Puck talks it s normally for long paragraphs, which
may show that he is trying to be presented as a the main or most important
character. My point is that Puck is the kind of the person who would offsets the
balance of love in the play by putting magic stuff in there eyes and that not going as
planned, with the girls fighting each other and the guys fights each other to Puck
really made some mistake their for sure. During that part of the play you see a lot
of Puck, that part of the play can be considered a main event of that act for sure and
one the most important parts of the play too. Another way we may think that Puck
was meant to be the most important is the overall reason for him being in the play
because he s a fairy and I don t remember going into the forest and finding a group of
magical fairies lead by a fairy named Titania. Not going to lie that does not happen
and he could be considered the most important character in the fact that we see other
people fall in love and be happy, but when do we see a little man with horns mess
with that love

Ailed and Damon are on different spectrums of life that result in completely
different lifestyles and determinants of importance. Ailed comes from a low
socioeconomic background where her parents work endlessly to provide for their
children, leaving Ailed responsible for her younger brothers where her hands are
never at rest. Along with school, Ailed works 18 hours a week to help her parents
financially and send money to her grandfather in the Philippines. Though Ailed seeks
higher education, she recognizes that her family does not have the means to provide
for her financially due to their position in America as part of the working class.
Inversely, Damon comes from a family where both of his parents attended UC

a private school. Damon describes his life as unlavish compared to his peers, but
ultimately he has the ability and access to afford college with no family

Though this is not always true, the positions of both Damon and Ailed s family
socioeconomically affect their schooling environment because they are submerged
into schools that produce students alike to their socioeconomic status. Since Ailed s
family is of the working class, she goes to a school that parallels her social class, with

The Spy in the Computer Essay
The Spy in the Computer
A study of how computer games, as a modern narrative form, draw on and develop
the tradition of espionage fiction.
The spy entered the computer a long time ago. During the Second World War, both
the Axis and the Allies used the computer extensively in code breakingand allied
operations. And following from these rather rudimentary forays, espionage through
the computer has reached alarming proportions even as other technologies have
continued to advance. The focus of the present paper will, however, be on something
different. It will not be on real espionage so much as on espionage in computer
games. The computer game has continually been enriched by better narrative
possibilities, graphic interfaces and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conflict exists in both types of narrative: it essentially consists of overcoming
obstacles and moving forward to achieve a particular goal. Safety, of course, would
mean the distance of the player or the reader from the fictional reality.
The apparent similarity in even these factors, however, can be properly judged only
after we have analysed representation and interactivity. To use Crawford s definition,
A game creates a subjective and simplified representation of emotional reality. A
game is not an objective accurate representation of reality; objective accuracy is
necessary only to the extent required to support the player s fantasy. The player s
fantasy is the key agent in making the game psychologically real.
Even here, the game narrative does the same thing as the narrative of a spy thriller.
But here I must mention that Crawford s definition is slightly dated and does not
take into account certain new developments in artificial intelligence (AI) or in
computer graphics and interactivity. The computer game, now, is better able to
respond to situations and has more emotional and non technical content than it did
before. Sound, and state of the art graphics (called in gaming parlance eye candy ),
can far exceed the effects created by the player s imagination.
Games, like stories, attempt to represent reality. But the essential difference between
the two is that most stories present events in
Costa Rican Rainforest Essay
Preserve and Conserve the Costa Rican Rainforest
The Costa Rican rain forest must be conserved and protected. There are many
benefits of rain forest conservation that can be achieved without the destruction of the
rainforests themselves. The Costa Rican rainforest is also home to diverse plant and
animal life. Tens of thousands of acres of rainforest are still destroyed every year in
Latin America and we must put an end to it.
There are many benefits to rainforest conservation. There are also many benefits to
the destruction of rainforests. But are these benefits worth it? There are many
reasons why people destroy rainforests in Latin America. They can be destroyed for
the purpose of commercial logging, mining, and road building. Commercial logging
is a form of destruction where loggers are interested in the hardwood trees that grow
in rainforests. Even if loggers take just a few trees, it disrupts the entire forest. This is
because when one tree falls, it will damage the others around it and those connected
by big vines. Loggers use big equipment to transport the logs so they build roads to
move the equipment. Road building itself does not cause massive forest destruction,
but it brings hunters, settlers, and tourists into the forest which ... Show more content

Philosophy And Practices Of Religion
The idea, concept, and practices of religion have never really been something that
is of importance to me during my life. For the longest time I did not identify as any
certain or specific religion and when asked I would simply state how I was not a
religious person. It was not until high school when I discovered the religionof
Agnosticism. In our English class we had to research different religions and our
group received Agnosticism. Before then I had never heard of that religion, but
after learning about Agnosticism it pretty much summed up how I feel and what I
believe about God and religion. Basically Agnosticism entails that the person
believes that the existence of God is uncertain and claims neither a faith nor a
disbelief in God. I feel like this religion perfectly sums up how I feel when it comes
to my faith and ideas about God and just religion as a whole. Since I am not a
religious type of person, the idea of me choosing another one that I would be a part
of seems like a difficult task. When I do think about the various religions that I have
studied, written, and read about during the course of this semester there is one that
stands out to me. If I had to choose another religion to join instead of my own, I
would join Buddhismbecause their fundamental principles and values are those that
I can agree with and their ultimate purpose in life is something I can see myself
believing in as well. To begin, in the Buddhist religion there are various principles and

when you are stuck in any situation whether it s at home or work there is a crucial
conversation keeping you from accomplishing the desired results. If you can learn to

you are after. The authors support this idea by referring to people who are

Paying attention to both the content of the discussion and how people are acting
and feeling is no easy task. But it s an essential part of dialogue. Chapter 5: Make It
Safe: How to Make It Safe to Talk about Almost Anything When things go wrong in
crucial conversations, we assume the content of our message is the problem, so
we begin to water it down or avoid it altogether. But, as long as your intent is pure
and you learn how to make it safe for others, you can talk to almost anyone about
almost anything. The key is to make the other person feel safe. To do this, there are
two things the person needs to know. First, they need to know that you care about
their best interests and goals. This is called mutual purpose. Second, they need to
know that you care about them. This is called mutual respect. When people believe
both of these things, they relax and can absorb what you re saying; they feel safe.
The instant they don t believe them (and it can happen instantaneously even with
those we have long and loving relationships with), safety breaks down and silence or
violence follows. To restore safety in the face of silence or violence, you must restore
mutual purpose and respect. Chapter 6:

The Physics Of Continuum Mechanics
In continuum mechanics, a Newtonian Fluids is a fluid that the viscous stress
arising from its flow, at every point, are linearly proportional to the local strain rate.
The reason we research Newtonian Fluids is that Newtonian fluids are the simplest
mathematical models of fluids that account for viscosity. In natural world, there are
many common liquids and gases that can be assumed to be Newtonian Fluids. For
example, water, alcohol, thin oil, air, and most of pure liquids. Newtonian fluids get
the name by Isaac Newton, who is one of the most famous scientists in the world. He
is the first person who found the relation between the rate of shear strain and shear
stressfor such fluids in differential form. Newtonian Fluids can be also called linearly
viscous fluid, which has been found to describe adequately the mechanical behavior
of many real fluids under a wide range of situations. In order to study Newtonian
Fluids, we need to understand the concept of fluids.
A liquid is a nearly incompressible fluid that will suit to the its container s shape.

shape of a container. However, most liquids cannot be compressed as others. Also

A Report on Esther Essay

Throughout time, people have attempted to destroy the nation of Israel, the apple
of God s eye. It was because from the Jews, came the covenants, promises, the law,
and the messiah the savior of the world. God s chosen people are the enemy of
Satan, the prince of this world, and the conflict started back in Genesis 3:15. While a
remnant from Judah returned to the land promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,
other Jews remained in the cities of their captivity. Some were welcomed as valued
members of their communities, but others were despised and hated. Some were even
targeted for extermination. The book of Esther tells a story of an attempted

The author writes of the rule of Ahasuerus and the deeds of Mordecai (10:2) in the
past tense, indicating the book was not composed during Ahasuerus reign.
Historical Background The events of Esther span a decade during the reign of
Ahasuerus, who succeeded his father Darius as ruler of the Persian Empire in 486
B.C. During his reign (486 465 B.C.), Ahasuerus continued his father s campaign
against Greece for its role in the Ionian revolt. After suffering defeat, he retired to
Susa, one of the four capitals of the Persian Empire. Around 483 B.C. he held an
extravagant feast in Susa to celebrate his achievements and ten years later, he
executed Haman for his evil schemes (1:3; 7:9).
Historical Accuracy Some critical scholars question the historical accuracy of Esther
on various accounts. One difficulty is that neither Vashti nor Esther is mentioned
outside the Bible. However, historians do note that following his unsuccessful
campaign against Greece (482 479 B.C.), Ahasuerus sought refuge in his harem. This
coincides with the elevation of Esther (2:17). Furthermore, the word translated queen
(1:9; 2:22) may refer merely to a principal wife rather than to a woman who ruled
beside the King. Thus, the
Back Bay Battery Simulation Summary
Reflection on Back Bay Battery Simulation In the Back Bay Battery Simulation I
learnt how to strategize in a team through discussion and arguing the facts. We
were faced with tough investing decisions wether to invest heavily in our existing
core battery the (NIMH) or start to focus on the next best thing the (ultra
capacitor). As a group we had trouble trying to come to an agreement of where we
would invest most of our R D funding. We first started our strategy off with talk on
the foreground reading, we shared ideas of where we should start to invest based on
the facts we had in the readings. From what we had available we started out
suggesting that we should remain focused on improving our core product the
(NIHM) battery. We focused on this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our strategy was still to invest our R D in (process and energy density) for the
NiHM to reap the market while the customers were still happy to pay $10 per unit.
We believed we could make strong profits with a price of $10 before our
competitors could catch up. By the time customers were willing to pay less per
unit our R D would have made traction in production costs per unit allowing us to
drop the price and hold market share. Year 3, we saw a unit decline against
forecasts as a result of our high market share; we continued to push on the process
improvements in the hypercompetitive market. As a result of our previous R D our
cost per unit dropped allowing us to reduce market price to $8.50 we believed this
would be a major disrupter allowing us to own the market. We also spread our R D
into self discharge as customer demands were changing with the new the (li ion)
batteries starting to grow in power tools. Year 4, we decided to hold our strategy
from the previous year to hold off competition in the hypercompetitive market. Year
5, Unit volume was becoming an issue, though we continued to try and drive
demand through low pricing as the power tool market is saturated. Our strategic
approach was to run as a value leader ,leading cost
All Art, Including Music, Is Directly Influenced By The
All art, including music, is directly influenced by the environment in which the
artist lives. It is impossible to create art in a vacuum, unaffected by the society and
events surrounding you. The time period, location, and social changes and
innovations can have a direct effect on the art produced. Political events, especially
wars, can have a strong influence on the music and art produced at that time. For
example, music may become more patriotic during a time of war as the composers
strive to publicize their national pride. I will explore this idea through the composer
Igor Stravinskyand his three most famous ballets in terms of music and
choreography. Since I have a retrospective perspective, I will be able to analyze the
situation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His wide range of locations creates an expansive social and political influence on his
works and their choreography. Similar to many famous composers, Stravinsky did
not study music from the time he was a small child, but studied law and philosophy
at St Petersburg University (Taruskin, White). Throughout the course of his life,
Stravinsky composed almost 100 works, ranging in genres. He began to be
commissioned by the Ballet Russes in 1909 and by the following year was asked by
Serge Diaghilev to produce The Firebird (Taruskin, White). The Ballet Russes was a
Paris ballet company run by Serge Diaghilev that was known for its creative and
inventive performances. Many people did not like the Ballet Russes innovative
style and chose to watch classic ballet companies instead in order to continue the
classical style that many believed ballet should express. However, Diaghilev was
determined to do something unique with his ballet company and they made their
performances extremely modern (Lockspeiser). The Firebird was the work that set
Stravinsky s career on fire, and allowed his name to become spoken with respect
and fame. It premiered at the Paris Opera on June 25, 1910. It may have been fate
that this commission was offered to Stravinsky because it is said that the Ballet
Russes originally commissioned another composer for this piece, but that his slow
progress forced them to offer it to
Jekyll And Mr Hyde Characteristics
The Strange Characteristics of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Don t believe your eyes,
what you see may not be true. London 1838 is no exception to that statement.
Everyone seems to have different sides, two different natures. Some are pleasing
and some not so pleasing. The victorian era is very two faced . In sight of the
public you are to be very proper, kind, well mannered and courteous of others.
Inside the privacy of your house is perhaps when true personalities came out. If you
didn t live up to the standards of society, often times you were outcasted and seen ill
of. Mr. Utterson, Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll are all very different, and yet they share
similar characteristics. Mr. Utterson is perceived through the story as quite a simple,
humorless,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jekyll s potion makes it so he is able to transform his body into Mr. Hyde and think
as Mr. Hyde thinks. He describes himself as becoming grotesque and continues to
discover how Hyde sees the world and thinks of situations. The thoughts are
hurtful, murderous, who is angry, lonely and dark. Dr, Jekyll soon realizes
though, that these thoughts are his own, it s just bringing forth deep desires he
never knew he had. He was feeding of the pleasures received from horrible deeds
he had done as a transformed Mr. Hyde. Jekyll couldn t get enough of it, it slowly
began to consume the doctor in him. He continues to feed the demon that he has
become. Jekyll struggles to fight off the Hyde side of his conscience and find
peace. During this time he realizes that everyone is battling against a dark side.
They just hide it from the world because it s shameful. Evil is in all of us; evil can
destroy everything you knew or cared about, even extreme as your own life. The
key is you have to let unwelcomed ideas through the door and give them power to
possess you. Dr. Jekyll simply gave in to initial curiosity, believing it will help
many, though colleagues tried to warn that he was testing powers only God
possessed, and that to continue would lead to destruction. Jekyll did not care, and
used Hyde to get resources he needed. Jekyll gave Hyde the key to his laboratory
door. Hyde had unlimited access to Jekyll, and Jekyll allowed

Pop Goes the World: The Globalization of Media and Popular Culture by David
Grazian discusses about the spread of culture throughout the world due to
globalization. The article begins with the discussion of shopping malls. Although,

Although, both are popular and wide spread in their own areas, America continues
to not be a strong hold for these two cultures. As Bollywood s films are quite
popular in the regions in Asia, but, lack the hold in Americans. It may be possible
that they lack a hold on Americans because of their musicals that are part of the
films or even the themes. It may not relate to Americans. In addition, K pop
continues to be quite popular in Asia and people are slowly getting to experience it.
However, Americans still are not as interested in the music as compared to the Asia

they lack the information to actually consume the culture. At most, Asian Americans

Corporal Punishment Essay

  • 1. Corporal Punishment Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of corporal punishment involves navigating through a complex web of historical, sociological, psychological, and ethical considerations. The difficulty lies not only in presenting factual information but also in delving into the underlying debates and controversies that surround this contentious issue. To do justice to the topic, one must explore the historical context of corporal punishment, examining its roots and evolution over time. Additionally, delving into sociological perspectives is crucial, as it requires an understanding of how different cultures and societies perceive and implement corporal punishment. The psychological aspect adds another layer of complexity. Analyzing the impact of corporal punishment on individuals, especially children, demands a nuanced approach. One must consider the various psychological theories that shed light on the consequences of physical discipline, weighing the potential long-term effects on mental health and behavior. Furthermore, addressing the ethical dimension of corporal punishment necessitates a thoughtful exploration of competing moral frameworks. This involves grappling with questions about the rights of parents, the role of the state in regulating disciplinary practices, and the broader implications for societal norms and values. The challenge in writing such an essay also lies in maintaining a balanced perspective. Acknowledging the diverse viewpoints and controversies surrounding corporal punishment requires a delicate balance of presenting evidence and fostering critical thinking. The writer must navigate through the emotionally charged nature of the topic, ensuring objectivity and sensitivity in the discourse. In conclusion, composing an essay on corporal punishment demands a comprehensive understanding of its multifaceted nature, requiring research across disciplines and the ability to engage with conflicting perspectives. It's an intellectual journey that goes beyond surface-level discussions, inviting writers to explore the depth of the subject matter and draw meaningful conclusions. • 3. Essay on It s a Sweet Depression Lacuna strung her fingers through the tangled tags of her hair, winding up the frayed end of a braid and tucking it behind one ear like an undone thread, poorly mended. She had picked up a knack for twining braids from Stockholm of all creatures; he had a penchant for taming anything that grew wild and her hair was the frequent target of his nit picky touch. At ungodly hours of the morning he would wring her out of bed like a drooling puddle of dreams. His beetle browed face would blot out the cold morning light as he crowded over her and barked his daily dose of discouragement, Woman, your hair is a tragedy! Suddenly she wanted to grab her sword and run off with the night, take solace under the stars. The events of the evening were tumbling through her mind, and she had a galling suspicion that she had chosen the wrong course. Perhaps Ramona was not the girl she should have selected for her Starry Night tryst. And, of course, her heart was laughing at her all the way: like she ever had a choice in the matter, like she wasn t just a meaningless bag of biological parts with her free will skewered in the steel trap of fate and providence. For a change, she was stumped. She had stood at the helm of the conversation for so long that she was leery of resigning herself to a becalmed silence. But Lacuna hadn t seen the girl take many liberties to speak her mind, and in a way this was worrisome. On the face of it, Ramona seemed easily flustered, as tractable as the valley s native mareep, warming readily to companionship of any kind. However, the girl s reticence could be symptomatic of her

The Dilemma of Macular Degeneration Essay The Dilemma of Macular Degeneration According to Baily and Hall, while visual impairment early in life is associated with inherited congenital disorders, abnormal fetal devepment, and problems associated with premature birth, most eye conditions are associated with aging. They claim that over 70% of the visually impaired population in the United States is over 65. Age related maculopathy, also called macular degeneration, or AMD, impairs the center of vision in older individuals. The macula is the region in the back of the retina that surrounds and includes the fovea (Goldstein 1999). Danger can exist for victims of the condition when simply walking down the street or even through their own homes. While there is yet no cure for macular degeneration the research is in progress. Two main areas of research include investigating the causes and exploring potential treatments. According to Friedman, progress in the effort to stop or prevent AMD will be slow until the cause is learned. He claims retinal pigmant epithelium damage to be the prominant theory explaining the choroidal circulation changes that lead to AMD. Although Friedmal himself does not subscribe to this theory, other researchers do and use it as a basis for study. Grunwald, Harisprasad, Dupont, M. G. Mguire, Fine, Bruker, A.M. Maguire, and Ho compared choroidal blood flow in subjects with AMD to a control group. They used laser doppler flowmetry to asess the volume, velocity, and flow of blood in the center of the fovea. Ten subjects with no drusen (cellular debris) were compared to 20 subjects with ten or more large drusen. The average visual acuities of the two groups was very close. No significant differences between age, blood pressure, or intraocular pressure was revealed between the subjects. Spraul, G. E. Lang, Grossnik laus, and G. K. Lang questioned the validity of the study. They claim doppler flowmetry to be an imperfect method for such a study because of multiple light scattering properties of the tissue. They also

June 28, 1994 Catawba Industrial Company Marge McPhee, general manager of the compressor manufacturing department of Catawba Industrial Company, quickly spotted the reports that she had been waiting for in the pile of mail that had accumulated during her trip to a West Coast industrial equipment trade show. A sales forecast and a costtabulation for a proposed new, light weight compressor provided her with the information she needed to ascertain whether or not to introduce it, what volume to produce, and what price to charge. See Exhibit 2 for the standard model compressor costs. As a result, each unit required only 62.5 hours of direct labor as compared to the 100 hours for the standard model. The cost savings in labor and materials were partly offset by the higher depreciation charges resulting from the use of more expensive machinery. The company had added certain features to the machinery center to accommodate the manufacturing process for the new compressor. The extra hardware and hoists already installed had cost $417,000. Additional jigs, sensors, and software were expected to add another $218,000 to this total. Both these amounts had been taken into account in calculating the depreciation charge for the new compressors. As Marge prepared to analyze the numbers, she was relieved to see that despite the high costs for the new compressor, it could still generate a higher profit than the standard unit. With that bit of encouragement, she set out to calculate the price and volume for the new compressor that would result in the best financial return. Because of practical difficulties in changing purchasing orders, production scheduling, and price lists, Catawba had a policy of limiting any changes to

It tells the story of Art Spiegelman s father, Vladek, a Polish Jew and Holocaust survivor; it tells the story of the relationship between Art and his father, complicated by his father s Holocaust trauma; and Maus tells the story of the relationship between Art and his artwork. A remarkable work, Maus is for sure. Not only is the use of a comic book format daring for a horrible topic as the Holocaust, Maus also defies definition in terms of genre. • 26. Locke Vs Rousseau John Locke and Jean Jacques Rousseau are great political philosophers that have many similar insights about society and its political form. However, when closely examining the writings of these thinkers, one can easily discover many subtle differences among them. The two philosophers base their theories on different assumptions, which subsequently lead to dissimilar ideas about the origin of society and the constitution of governments. As a result, their views of the development of society greatly dissent from each other. Locke s and Rousseau s different versions in the development of society cause them to reach disparate conclusions concerning the legislative power, social unit, and revolution rights of the society. Locke indicates that, by giving up some of one s rights, the state gains legislative power and is obliged to use this power to make laws that benefit the people, who hired it. Locke writes that, This legislative is not only the supreme power of the common wealth, but sacred and unalterable in the hands where the community have once placed it...over whom no body can have a power to make laws, but by their own consent, and by authority received from them. (XI 134) Rousseau argues that the state should not be able to acquire legislative power, but simply acts as an executive. He claims that the legislative power comes from the people, for the sovereign is simply the general will of everyone, in which the state should obey and enforce. Rousseau states that, Each of us puts his person and all his power in common under the supreme control of the general will, and, as a body, we receive each member as an indivisible part of the whole ( ), showing that the aggregate mind of the people, the general will, has the legislative power as all powers are given to it. Locke stresses individualism in a society, while Rousseau bases the majority of his political theory on the submission to the general will, which is a collective unit. Locke emphasizes that in a society, one should still preserve life, liberty, and property. He claims that instead of being one

These characters are important but not as important as this little fairy named Puck is a rebel in some way with his idea and using flowers to make people fall in love with each other throwing off the balance of lovein this play. In this play it makes puck seem like the main character or the most important character by the way he talks in the play it s very different from other characters the also play a big part. When Puck talks it s normally for long paragraphs, which may show that he is trying to be presented as a the main or most important character. My point is that Puck is the kind of the person who would offsets the balance of love in the play by putting magic stuff in there eyes and that not going as planned, with the girls fighting each other and the guys fights each other to Puck really made some mistake their for sure. During that part of the play you see a lot of Puck, that part of the play can be considered a main event of that act for sure and one the most important parts of the play too. Another way we may think that Puck was meant to be the most important is the overall reason for him being in the play because he s a fairy and I don t remember going into the forest and finding a group of magical fairies lead by a fairy named Titania. Not going to lie that does not happen and he could be considered the most important character in the fact that we see other people fall in love and be happy, but when do we see a little man with horns mess with that love

And following from these rather rudimentary forays, espionage through the computer has reached alarming proportions even as other technologies have continued to advance. Conflict exists in both types of narrative: it essentially consists of overcoming obstacles and moving forward to achieve a particular goal. Safety, of course, would mean the distance of the player or the reader from the fictional reality. The apparent similarity in even these factors, however, can be properly judged only after we have analysed representation and interactivity. To use Crawford s definition, A game creates a subjective and simplified representation of emotional reality. A game is not an objective accurate representation of reality; objective accuracy is necessary only to the extent required to support the player s fantasy. The player s fantasy is the key agent in making the game psychologically real. Even here, the game narrative does the same thing as the narrative of a spy thriller. But here I must mention that Crawford s definition is slightly dated and does not take into account certain new developments in artificial intelligence (AI) or in computer graphics and interactivity. The computer game, now, is better able to respond to situations and has more emotional and non technical content than it did before. Sound, and state of the art graphics (called in gaming parlance eye candy ), can far exceed the effects created by the player s imagination. Games, like stories, attempt to represent reality. But the essential difference between the two is that most stories present events in

There are many benefits to rainforest conservation. There are also many benefits to the destruction of rainforests. But are these benefits worth it? There are many reasons why people destroy rainforests in Latin America. They can be destroyed for the purpose of commercial logging, mining, and road building. Commercial logging is a form of destruction where loggers are interested in the hardwood trees that grow in rainforests. Even if loggers take just a few trees, it disrupts the entire forest. This is because when one tree falls, it will damage the others around it and those connected by big vines. Loggers use big equipment to transport the logs so they build roads to move the equipment. But, as long as your intent is pure and you learn how to make it safe for others, you can talk to almost anyone about almost anything. The key is to make the other person feel safe. To do this, there are two things the person needs to know. First, they need to know that you care about their best interests and goals. This is called mutual purpose. Second, they need to know that you care about them. This is called mutual respect. When people believe both of these things, they relax and can absorb what you re saying; they feel safe. The Physics Of Continuum Mechanics In continuum mechanics, a Newtonian Fluids is a fluid that the viscous stress arising from its flow, at every point, are linearly proportional to the local strain rate. The reason we research Newtonian Fluids is that Newtonian fluids are the simplest mathematical models of fluids that account for viscosity. In natural world, there are many common liquids and gases that can be assumed to be Newtonian Fluids. For example, water, alcohol, thin oil, air, and most of pure liquids. Newtonian fluids get the name by Isaac Newton, who is one of the most famous scientists in the world. He is the first person who found the relation between the rate of shear strain and shear stressfor such fluids in differential form. The author writes of the rule of Ahasuerus and the deeds of Mordecai (10:2) in the past tense, indicating the book was not composed during Ahasuerus reign. Historical Background The events of Esther span a decade during the reign of Ahasuerus, who succeeded his father Darius as ruler of the Persian Empire in 486 B.C. During his reign (486 465 B.C.), Ahasuerus continued his father s campaign against Greece for its role in the Ionian revolt. After suffering defeat, he retired to Susa, one of the four capitals of the Persian Empire. Around 483 B.C. he held an extravagant feast in Susa to celebrate his achievements and ten years later, he executed Haman for his evil schemes (1:3; 7:9). Historical Accuracy Some critical scholars question the historical accuracy of Esther on various accounts. One difficulty is that neither Vashti nor Esther is mentioned outside the Bible. However, historians do note that following his unsuccessful campaign against Greece (482 479 B.C.), Ahasuerus sought refuge in his harem. This coincides with the elevation of Esther (2:17). Furthermore, the word translated queen (1:9; 2:22) may refer merely to a principal wife rather than to a woman who ruled beside the King. Thus, the
