People Should Follow the Code of the West, Talk Less; Say...
The code of the west is things to live by, they were never actually written down, but they were
something that everyone in the west seemed to live by. It was a different time that these people lived
in and a lot of the laws that they lived by are not even considered in today s society. One of the laws
that I believe should people should always follow is talk less, say more. This is something that means
a lot to me and the world that I live, and grew up in. This is a code that does affect you throughout
your whole life and never loses meaning, no matter how young or old you are. Talk less; say more is
the most important and the most meaningful rule in the codes of the west. This code, talk less; say
more, is one that still really ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the game of basketball this is a big one. When someone falls and you help them up it says a lot
about who you are as a person, yet if they fall and you say something to them that could be very rude,
you are degrading yourself with the words that you have said. Players like this are known and people
know them as the players that are very unrespectable and rude. The more they say the more they are
hated and the less that people say the more they mean. Respect is something that is earned and it is not
earned through the things that you say, but the things that you do. If you are trying to earn someone s
respect I guarantee you that if you just talked to them all of the time they would not like for that. You
have to prove it through the things that you do and the ways that you act. This was a big thing back in
the west. If a new guy came to town he did not earn respect through all of the people he talked to and
the stories that he told, because those were just stories. He had to earn it by what he did. This is where
actions really speak louder than words. Respect is also something that everyone in life is looking for,
whether they know it or not and sometimes they think they have done everything to deserve it, when
really they have not done the most important thing; prove they can follow up and what they say. You
have to be able to back up all of the words that come out of your mouth with actions because there is
just talking about doing something and then there is

The Significance of the Role of Malcolm X on African...
To what extent was the role of Malcolm X significant in the rise of radical African American activism
(1965 1968)?
A. Plan of the Investigation
To what extent was the role of Malcolm X significant in the rise of radical African American activism
(1965 1968)?
This investigation will assess the significance of Malcolm X s significance in giving rise to African
American activism. Malcolm X s motives, involvement in the civil rights movement and his
leadership will all be discussed in order to understand the extent of his significance. To add further
understanding and provide justification a summarization of evidence will be included. Also, an
evaluation of sources will allow for details which provide justification in saying that Malcolm ... Show

However, this source is limited due to the lack of discussion about his impact on many people and
how he laid the foundation for many activist groups and organizations.
D. Analysis When making the final evaluation of Malcolm X s role of significance in bringing rise to
African American activism, tow aspects of his role must be evaluated. One includes his motivation
and the other is what he wanted to accomplish. Malcolm X s motivation was his oppressed youth.
When Malcolm was younger he and his family were harassed by the Ku Klux Klan which caused
them to move to another part of Michigan. Sadly enough, after they moved, the racism became worse.
A racist mob set his family s home on fire and all of the white emergency responders and firefighters
watched their house burn down. Shortly after this, Malcolm X s father died and this sent his mother
into a deep depression of shock and grief which eventually caused her to be submitted into a mental
institution. Malcolm left home and after leaving, he became involved in drugs and crime. This became
his motivation. He wanted to fight back and provide young black youth with better and more positive
opportunities. However, it was not just young black youth he was advocating for, but it was all African
Americans. As an outspoken civil rights leader in the 1960s, Malcolm X wanted to encourage black

Persuasive Essay On Commitment In Love
You are a man eater, right? You are a fun lay, a good night, but commitment is not for you. You are
fierce independence and unavailability. You prefer your own company because, you annoy yourself,
but when you re alone at least no one else has that power. When did this become who you are? Did
you get hurt? A million times? Just once? Was that too much for your heart made of tender flesh?
What made you this person? Are you afraid? Are you just terrified because you fall in love with
someone the instant they do anything that makes your heart drop? To combat the possible pain, you
swear you do not love anyone or anything at all. If you cannot be the person who does not get
heartbroken once a week then you are going to be the person who does not have a heart to break.
Cold exterior, dark edge, you never let anyone closer than ten feet to you. You maintain your mystery
and posterity by making sure no one ever crosses you. The best way to do that is by establishing your
firm no bull policy early. God knows you are terrified. You want to be the person with your heart on
your sleeve. You would love to be someone who believes in the sentiment of it is better to have loved
and lost than never loved at all but you cannot bring yourself to do it. You cannot handle the
destruction. You cannot bear the weight of having to rebuild yourself every single time. You cannot
carry the cross of your own fragility.
People ask about why you are like this. They ask why you haven t found anyone. You say something
like my standards are just really high. On some level, that is absolutely true. You will not let just
anyone in, if you are going to stop shooting them down before they have a chance, they really have to
be something special. The problem is not that you do not let just anyone in, you just do not let anyone
in.
The scary part about being a damaged heart is that when you meet someone new, your defenses are at
an all time high. Constantly on ready to run, always testing to see if they can handle your damage. You
push away before anyone has a chance to get close. Some make it, though. It takes a while but you
start to believe them when they say they are there to stay. You tell them you are a storm and they say
they love

A Study Of The Dodd Frank Act Essay
2010 2016: A Study of the Dodd Frank Act s Role in a Slow U.S. Economic Recovery After the 2008
Financial Crisis
The role that the Dodd Frank Act plays in the slow economic recovery from the 2008 financial crisis
has many aspects. The regulatory and compliance component of the law helped to contribute to the
slow economic recovery by adversely affecting the banking industry s ability to provide credit
specifically the community banks, ability to provide enough credit to the small business and start up
companies. The purpose of this paper is to show that there was a connection between the slow
economic recovery and the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The 2007
financial crisis had been called the great recession because it was so severe. The government
especially the Federal Reserve took unprecedented action to stabilize the market. The Federal Reserve
is the central bank of the United State established in 1913. Hubbard and O Brien state that The Federal
Reserve is task with monetary policy which is the management of the money supply and interest rate
to pursue macroeconomic policy objectives (11).
There are three major types of financial crisis banking, debt and currency however there is no
universal definition of a financial crisis. The 2008 financial crisis was a banking crisis it actually
started in 2007. Researchers had define a banking crisis as severe stress on the financial system, such
as runs on financial institutions or

Chemotherapy Induced Diarrhea
In oncological patients, diarrhea can occur in several different situations. Possible etiologies could be
chemotherapeutic agents, radiation, decreased physical performance, graft vs. host disease and
infections. Of clinical importance is chemotherapy induced diarrhea, which has been reported as a
grade 3 4 serious adverse event with a frequency of 5 47% in randomized clinical trials (Andreyev,
2014). Diarrhea is divided into different grading and these are Grade 1: increase to two to three bowel
movements per day additional to number before treatment or mild increase in stoma output. Grade 2:
increase to four to six bowel movements per day additional to number before treatment, moderate
increase in stoma output, as well as moderate cramping ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to killing cancer cells, chemotherapy tends to kill other fast growing cells, such as those in
your intestinal lining. Not all chemotherapy drugs cause diarrhea, most regimens used to treat
gastrointestinal cancers, those used in patients with tumors at other sites such as breast cancer treated
with docetaxel, capecitabine or folinic acid antagonists (such as methotrexate) also raise the risk of
chemotherapy induced diarrhea. Radiation therapy that concentrates on the abdomen, pelvis or lower
back can cause diarrhea. How serious the diarrhea will be depends on the radiation dose. The diarrhea
can persist for weeks or months after treatment. It is also possible for diarrhea to begin days, months,
and even years after treatment. If the surgeon must remove certain parts of the intestine in order to
remove cancer, this might alter the intestine s ability to absorb nutrients and/or fat and may result in
diarrhea. Chemotherapy and total body radiation therapy given in effects of bone marrow stem cell
transplant can cause diarrhea. Diarrhea is also known to be a complication of graft versus host disease
if received bone marrow stem cells are allogeneic. In graft versus host disease, the transplanted bone

Essay on Animal Experimentation and Research
Animal Experimentation and Research
In the basement of the psychology department here, a poster hangs on the wall; on it is a picture of
two white lab rats and a caption that reads, ?They?ve saved more lives than 911.? This poster hangs on
the wall of the room where I performed brain surgery on a rat. Many people would be morally
opposed to this and any other form of animal research and experimentation and feel that it should be
banned. This heated debate has been going on for centuries with each side possessing strong
arguments. A central argument to this debate is whether or not animals are moral patients, with
feelings anId the ability to suffer, and if we as humans are entitled to use them as means. Many people
feel that we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise, R.G. Frey, who wrote a book titled Interests and Rights: The Case Against Animals, said
that even though animals can experience unpleasant situations, they have no true desires, preferences,
or memory (?Right from Wrong? 26). If we consider their arguments, it is possible to conclude that
animals are not on the same level as humans, which morally allows us to use them for
experimentation. Clearly, if everyone agreed that an animal is a member of the moral community?
meaning on the same level as humans?then we would not have an ongoing debate. Perceiving an
animal to be on the same level of humans in terms of moral implications would then mean that we
must treat them as equals.
This begins to introduce another fundamental issue involved in this debate: suffering. Jeremy
Bentham introduced this idea with the ubiquitous statement, ?The question is not, Can they reason?
nor Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?? This ability to suffer is often attributed to somebody who is a
member of the moral community. Thus, if we assume animals do suffer, we must consider them equal
to be almost equal to humans?at least equal moral patients. Yet, how exactly do we know they are
suffering? Animals cannot directly communicate their suffering to us, and they could quite possibly be
suffering at times that we do not think they should be. It is easier to

Millions of nerve fibres link the brain s two hemispheres, the logical side to the creative side.
Stimulating these links allows better brain potential to be drawn out. The brains two hemispheres are
known as the cerebral cortex. Piracetam nootropics works on the central nervous to protect the
cerebral cortex from a lack of oxygen. Studies have shown that the quality of interaction with
Piracetam and oxygen helps improve memory abilities.
One study involving volunteering adolescents who used Piracetam over a period of 14 months showed
improvements in the academic performance of all volunteers. The students that took part were those
that had been underperforming and under achieving. It was concluded that Piracetam was able to
improve memory, vigilance and consciousness.
Similar positive effects have been seen with Piracetam and Dyslexia. A study carried out by Tallal and
Wilsher found that Piracetam improved the accuracy, understanding and speed in the spelling, reading
and writing of dyslexic children.

Why Do Paper Towel Absorb The Most Water
AIM: To determine which brand of 3 ply paper towel will absorb the most water
HYPOTHESIS: Brands with thicker paper towels will absorb more water as there are more molecules
present that are the key to absorbency in paper towels
INTRODUCTION:
The key to absorbency in paper towels are the fibers called cellulose molecules which are big
molecules that consist of lots of tiny sugar molecules chained together. When a paper towel becomes
wet, the water molecules rush in and cling onto the cellulose fibers which is why it is able to absorb
the water. Therefore most of the time, thicker the paper towels means there will be more fibers
resulting in more water absorbed.

The results in the table show that the paper towels from the brand Kleenex was able to absorb the most
water as it was the thickess, therefere proving my hypothesis, thicker paper towels will absorb more
water, correct. The results also showed that different paper towels absorb different amounts of water,
some more and some less.
The fibers that make up the paper towel are what enables the towel itself to absorb water. The more
fibers, the more water is absorbed which is why Kleenex was the most successful paper towel brand in
this experiment as it was more thick and held more fibers.
There weren t many weaknesses identified in the experiment design but there were a few
disadvantages of doing this experiment, the main one being that whlist the paper towel was removed
from the beaker using our fingers. This may of slightly affected the results as some of the water may
of fell back into the beaker or were stuck to our fingers. To avoid this, tongs should be used instead.
An unforeseen problem that arouse during the experiment was that we could not measure anything
beneath 100ml with the 500ml beaker so we had to improvise and use a measuring cynliner which
solved the problem but also affected the results as some of the water could ve remained

The Architect s Use of Space
The architects use of space Ludvig Mies van Der Rohe s Barcelona Pavilion is one of his most famous
architectural constructions, and was built in 1928 29. As stated earlier the Barcelona Pavilion was built
in Barcelona, Spain as a German national Pavilion for the Barcelona International Exposition of 1929
and the Chaos and Classism art and design show in 1918 1936, which was a reaction to the chaos of
the World War I and contains works that includes painting, film, sculptures, photography and
architecture. It is built form glass, steel and several kinds of marble. After the Pavilion was
disassembled in 1930 after the exhibition closed, the building became a key part not only in the career
of Mies van der Rohe, but also for the rest of the twentieth century architectural world. It was
therefore rebuilt in the 1980s, and was researched, designed and supervised by the architects Ignasi de
Solà Morales, Cristian Cirici Fig.4 Barcelona Pavilion, Barcelona and Fernando Ramos. In the
Barcelona Pavilion, the use of space is based on the simplicity of how a functional space can be
created. Geometry and the use of materials is the key point in this reconstructed space. Mies var der
Rohe s initial thoughts about the materials he used was not so much in novelty as in the ideal mindset
of modernity and that they expressed it through the rigour of their geometry, the precision of the
pieces and the clarity of their assembly. For this project Mies var der Rohe initially rejected the

The Joint Stock Companies Act 1844, which enabled companies to be formed by deed of settlement

limited liability to shareholders and gave recognition to the company as a separate legal persona. By
the Joint Stock Companies Act 1856, the deed was replaced with today s style of constitution, namely
the registration of the Memorandum of Association and the Articles of Association. The contents of
these are now regulated under the Companies Act 1985, and form the constitution of the company. It is

In the House of Lords it was held that the plaintiff could not rely on the said article, when the
company terminated his employment, as he was suing in his capacity of a solicitor, i.e. enforcing an
outsider right, which did not affect the constitutional rights of the shareholders even though he was
also a shareholder.
The second principle was established in the case of Foss v Harbuttle . The rule being stated by Griffin
in the following way:
An individual shareholder has no absolute right to seek redress for a wrong purportedly committed
against the company in which he is a member. The company in such an instance is the proper plaintiff
to instigate such an action. Whether the company proceeds with the action will depend upon the will
of the general meeting and its board of directors. Only in exceptional circumstances will the court
interfere with a decision taken by the company to sanction the alleged wrongful act.
There are two parts to this doctrine; firstly that the courts will not interfere in the internal management
of the company. The grounds for this lie in the principle that the majority shareholders should be able
to decide whether a

How does dysfunction in the cortico striato thalamic circuit contribute to the pathophysiology of
Tourette syndrome?
Tourette syndrome (TS) is a neuropsychiatric disorder involving motor and vocal tics. Typical onset
occurs around 5 7 years and it is associated with comorbid conditions such as OCD or ADHD. There
is evidence that TS is an inherited disorder as shown in familial and twin studies, but the exact genetic
pathology or etiology is still unknown. The neurobiology of TS appears to be involved in cortico
striatal thalamo cortical (CSTC) circuits, which connect parts of the frontal cortex to subcortical
structures. Tics are caused by focal excitatory abnormalities in the striatum that lead to inhibition ...

Light and Dark in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness Essay...
Light and Dark in Heart of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness is a tragic tale of the white man s journey into the African jungle.
When we peel away the layers, however, a different journey is revealed we venture into the soul of
man, complete with the darkness of depravity as well as the wonderful. In this essence Conrad uses
this theme of light and darkness to contrast the civilized European world with the savage African
world in Heart of Darkness.
As aforementioned, within Heart of Darkness, Conrad uses light and dark to symbolize good and evil,
respectively.
It is whiteness that is truly sinister and evil, for it symbolizes the immoral scramble for loot by the
unscrupulous and unfeeling Belgian traders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As well as the obvious difference between the white and black, we can perhaps see how the boy is
trapped beneath and within white greed.
This leads me on to the struggle between the white people and the native tribes, which plays into the
next theme, that of light versus dark. From the very start, Marlow, the main character, creates a sense
of darkness.
At last, in its curved and imperceptible fall, the sun sank low, and from glowing white changed to a
dull red without rays and without heat, as if about to go out suddenly, stricken to death by the touch of
that gloom brooding over a crowd of men (Conrad 28).
The use of imperceptible shows the way in which darkness falls without distinction, it sneaks up on
the reader and indeed the scene. The dull red is lifeless and without energy and remains stagnant in its
nature. Finally the use of the description, stricken to death the finally notion of darkness at its worse is
given.
Marlow s use of a modern city is the first glimpse of what he considers civilized and more
importantly, uncivilized. Marlow begins by speaking of the occupants of the boat. He explains that the
owner of the boat is an accountant and a lawyer. This fact alludes to the idea of what might be
considered civilized. Furthermore the discussion he talks about the lights that are reflected in the
water. This also creates the idea that he considers himself and the passengers

Handmaids Tale Analysis
The Handmaid s Tale, a film based on Margaret Atwood s book depicts a dystopia, where pollution
and radiation have rendered innumerable women sterile, and the birthrates of North America have
plummeted to dangerously low levels. To make matters worse, the nation s plummeting birth rates are
blamed on its women. The United States, now renamed the Republic of Gilead, retains power the use
of piousness, purges, and violence. A Puritan theocracy, the Republic of Gilead, with its religious
trappings and rigid class, gender, and racial castes is built around the singular desire to control
reproduction. Despite this, the republic is inhabited by characters who would not seem out of place in
today s society. They plant flowers in the yard, live in suburban houses, drink whiskey in the den and
follow a far off a war on the television. The film leaves the conditions of the war and the society
vague, but this is not a political tale, like Fahrenheit 451, but rather a feminist one. As such, the film,
isolates, exaggerates and dramatizes the systems in which women are the handmaidens of today s
society in general and men in particular. In the Republic of Gilead, children are seen as lawful
possessions of wealthy, powerful couples like the Commander and his wife. As such, women called
handmaids have been reduced to two basic functions, breeding and buying groceries. Moreover, since
women are prohibited to vote, write or read, the grocery store labels all of the products

Analysis Of What Dreams May Come
What Dreams May Come Vincent Ward s What Dreams May Come breathed brilliant life into the
tragic story of a family pulled apart by death and the journey one man makes through heaven and even
hell to save his soul mate, based from the book, What Dreams May Come by Richard Matheson. This
movie is boldly beautiful and a rollercoaster of feelings that brings you to the emotional edge but
sadly doesn t quite get us all the way over. In the beginning of the movies, events occur rather quickly.

Annabella Sciorra, meet as there boats collide into each other on a lake; from there the two fall in

His idea in this particular story is that heaven is built in a state of uncertainty. Those who are there see
and experience that things and people that they wish to see or do. The meaning behind thus, is that
Heaven is becoming who you want to be (Ebert). As Albert says in the film Hell is a place for those
who don t know they are dead. Souls who do not accept death or unable to comprehend it are those
who end up in hell. In the movie, as Chris travels the road to hell, he sees that the road is paved with
faces who are bitter and damned. Along the way he also hears the voice of his father who is played by
german director Werner Herzog (Ebert).
Even though the film ends in the common obligatory happily ever after fashion to which doesn t
appeal to the rest of the movie, it is nevertheless a fantastic film. It is truly a wonderful work of art
that translates the book in accurate proportions, which seems to be rare in the hollywood industry.
Like other works of Ward s the film ends with Chris and Anne seeking their destiny. The cathedral in
the ending scene, similar to the other awing images in the film, is breathtaking, however it is upside

and nature. The digital artwork and incredibly touching performances; heighten all

The Economic Problem Of Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is among the most spread business in society, today. Human Trafficking is a
worldwide problem that keeps growing. It can happen to anyone and that is why we need to raise
awareness and do more to alleviate this modern day slavery. More than one person is trafficked across
the border every day. Some estimates say that more than 700,000 people get trafficked each year for
sexual corruption and involuntary labor. Traffickers want to prey on the weak, those who want a better
life, have little or no employment opportunities, very unstable, and those who have been abused
sexually. Since this is very common in society, anybody can simply become a victim. Human
trafficking is perhaps one of the most profitable crimes. According to Farr (2012), Human trafficking
is believed to be a $7 to $12 billion industry and is ranked third, after the sale of arms and medication,
as the most profitable enterprise.
Issues like global political and economic problems in some areas of the world, with other epidemic
cases of poverty and exclusion of entire groups of people, contribute to making human trafficking
susceptible to victims. Due to these issues, it becomes simple to trap people to believe that
employment opportunities help ease economic problems for them. Most human trafficking victims are
enrolled and persuaded to look for business, which is in a remote nation. Recruiters can be

Macular Degeneration Essay
Age related Macular Degeneration or AMD is a disease that affects millions of Americans every year.
There are several factors that contribute to this disease, those being: exposure to bright light, diet,
hereditary factors and gender. The main ones that can be controlled consist of exposure to bright light
and diet. Those that cannot be controlled are hereditary factors and gender. Prevention of macular
degeneration consists of reducing the eyes exposure to bright light and the daily diet of the person at
risk. What I seek to explore is if adopting to the Mediterranean diet will create the needed health
benefit to prevent the onset of AMD. The Mediterranean diet is one which focuses on eating seafood,

The poor diet of the southern Mediterranean consisting mainly of fruits and vegetables. Beans and
nuts, healthy grains, fish, olive oil, small amounts of dairy, and red wine, proved to be much more
likely to lead to lifelong good health. (Tufts University Health and nutrition letter,2013). Researchers
analyzed the diets of 883 people age 55 and older for two years and found that the more closely they
followed the Med diet, the lower their risk for AMD. Fifty percent of those who didn t closely follow
the diet had AMD, while 39 percent who closely adhered to the diet had AMD a 35 percent lower risk
in comparison ( Med Diet Cuts Macular Degeneration Risk ,(2017). This is supported also by the
article Eat more like a Mediterranean to protect your eyes , where a high consumption of fish, fish oil,
nuts and lutein and zeaxanthin obtained from eating vegetables reduced the risk of AMD. It goes on to
state later that it involves a decrease in oxidative stress and inflammation that play a role in AMD
formation. As stated by Michael Hoster, Omega 3 fatty acid supplementation can slow or inhibit

Ain T I A Woman Analysis
Both poems, Ain t I a Woman and at the cemetery, walnut grove plantation, south carolina, 1989, were
written by African American women that have left a large impression on how we read and interpret
African American literature today. Ain t I a Woman was spoken by Sojourner Truth, and was
advocating for women s rights. The poem, at the cemetery, walnut grove plantation, south carolina,
1989, was written by Lucille Clifton, and was intended to bring honor to the dead slaves. Both pieces
of work have their own unique style of writing and purpose. Both the poem, by Lucille Clifton, and
oration, by Sojourner Truth, are effective as a means of exposing social injustice and as a means of
diminishing social injustice. Both Ain t I a Woman, by Lucille ... Show more content on

In at the cemetery, walnut grove plantation, south carolina, 1989, by Lucille Clifton, the purpose is to
expose the injustice that has happened to the dead slaves. The slaves were buried without any
gravestone and the women were not even counted when the owner of the plantation wrote down his
inventory. This injustice is what pushed Lucille Clifton to write this poem. In the poem, Clifton
attempts to draw attention to the fact that the honor was taken from the slaves, after their deaths, and
Clifton tries to restore the honor that was stolen from the slaves. However, in Ain t I a Woman the
purpose was to expose the inequalities of an African American woman during Truth s life. In Truth s
speech she mentions how other women should be lifted over ditches, helped into carriages, and have
the best place but she gets none of this. Truth is comparing how other women are treated to how she is
treated. This best shows Truth s purpose of exposing the inequality between African American women
and other groups of people. In both, the poem by Lucille Clifton and the speech by Sojourner Truth
the purpose is to expose a certain

The Problems Associated With Hegemonic Masculinity Essay
THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH HEGEMONIC MASCULINITY IN SOCIETY
Introduction
The discourse of hegemonic masculinity was recently explored to understand the power of men in
society (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005). For centuries, men have taken a dominant gender role in
society. This has resulted in the oppression of women and the subordination of men who do not
confine to the masculine norms (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005). This essay explores the discourse of
hegemonic masculinity by explaining how it is reflected throughout society, and how it is connected to
femininity and other masculinities. The aim is to criticise hegemonic masculinity by explaining the
negative pressure it puts on both women and men.
Masculinity Hegemony
To understand the concrete basis of hegemonic masculinity more easily, the terms hegemonic and
masculinity will be deconstructed. Hegemonic represents what is dominant and most powerful in a
societal or political context (Merriman Webster, n.d.). Masculinity is a socially constructed term that
represents behaviour that is socially acceptable for men (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005; Lynch, 2009).
Therefore, hegemonic masculinity refers to a set of norms and practices that are deemed as the
dominant norm for men (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005; Lynch, 2009). Although the term is tied with
men, hegemonic masculinity is not tied to the biological form of men. Alternatively, it is a gendered
performance which means that its associated

Cars Model In The Interdisciplinary Field Of Computer...
An Analysis of Research Article Introductions Using the CARS Model in the Interdisciplinary Field of
Computer Science and Hospitality Management
Writing a good research article (RA) is essential for scholars and scientists. As genre analysis has
become more mainstream over the past few years, there are a lot of researchers using CARS model,
which was designed by Swales (1990), to study research article instructions (RAIs). As stated by
Swales Feak (2012), there are three moves in the introductory sections of RAs: (1) establishing a
territory, (2) establishing a niche and (3) occupying the niche, and they have a very predictable order
of occurrence. In addition, there are sub moves called steps, some of which are obligatory, while
others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also argued that the variations in the presence of certain steps may be greater than Swales CARS
model indicated both in different fields and their sub disciplines. For example, the step where the
remaining RA structure is summarized has a very high occurrence in electrical and electronic
engineering RAIs compared to other disciplines, even though it is not obligatory. Furthermore,
introductions in software engineering were found to be rather long because they used a great amount
of cycling, a repetitive use of the moves back and forth, in order to make sure that readers will have
enough background information to understand the articles which is contrary to some of Swales
observations. For instance, Shehzad (2012) discovered that the cycling of move 2 appeared frequently
in computer science echoing past findings. All of these examples show how the CARS model is used
differently depending on RPs subject. Juxtaposing the use of CARS model in RAIs of computer
science and hospitality management, one can clearly see how the applications of CARS model can
vary. Rafik Galea, Mello Arumugam (2013) stated that move 3 was the most important and frequently
utilized of the three moves in hospitality management RAIs. They also indicated that the most
common ordering of the moves in hospitality was move 1 move 3 move 3. On the other hand, Shehzad
(2012) found out that in the computer science field, most authors did not include the step of listing

Good Night And Good Luck And The Crucible Analysis
What is the main source of power? Well you probably already know the answer because of the title,
but it is fear and lying. Some may disagree but in the end we all have our opinions. Think of it this
way what controls people to do something they don t want to? The answer is fear. If someone was
threatening my family and had them captured, well the best option for me would have to be to comply
with them, because I would be afraid they might hurt my family.
The other source is lying to people. Lie to people and you just might have set fear into them. In Good
Night and Good Luck and The Crucible people who held power were mainly the people that set the
cluster of lies to unravel all the chain of events that made the story the way it was.
In addition to, the first source of power is fear. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of you. We danced. And Tituba conjured Ruth Putnam s dead sisters. And that is all. And mark
this. Let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to
you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you .
(Abigail Act 1)
Furthermore, the second source for power is dishonesty. Yes, lying with fear does tend to lead to
power. When senator McCarthy lies to the people and tells them they all these certain rules that
explain basically most of the things the people were doing were all meanings of communism. In The
Crucible however lying was the main half rather than fear. The group of girls all made the decision to
lie and act like they were involved with the devil.
In conclusion, Power is a very dangerous thing. I am not saying anyone that has it is evil, but what I
am saying is that listen to the movies and all the quotes that come from great minds. They all have one
similar agreement and that is power in the wrong hands is dangerous. As we have seen power with
senator McCarthy is bad and power with Abigail over the girls also ended up to being something

manuscripts and the scores, this volume also contains three useful sections which are an introduction,
Abbreviations, and the critical report. The critical report is located on the page one hundred and

First of all, the author described the detailed information about the composed years and historic
background. Even some of the pieces is hard to track the composed year, but the author still tried to

The other section of the commentary report is the commentary of the scores which are collected in this
book. The commentary is arranged in a really standard form, and the comments on performance are
quite helpful to the performers. For instance, the commentary of Sonanta in B flat Major for Flute and
Basso Continu, Wq,125 is located from the page one hundred and thirty six to page one hundred and
thirty seven. In the commentary, it mainly shows the measure numbers, part of the voice, and remarks.
For Measure number, it used the number to mark each specific measure. In the part of the voice, fl
means the voice of the flute, and b.c. means the voice of the basso continuo. In the section of remarks,
it contains very detailed comments on the performance. Even it points out the version that it follows.
As I have tried out all the comments on this piece, I found that the changes make music sound more
interesting and artistic. For instance, the Sonata in B flat major for flute and Basso continuous second
movement Allegro. In the third measure, it suggests the note 2 changed from F to A. After this
changing, the melody of flute sounds more interesting. In the measure six, it suggests moving the slur
from notes 3 4 for notes 2 4. That lets the melody skip a minor third and sounds more stable in the
beginning section than the original one. In the measure twenty seven,

What is the birth control patch?
The birth control patch is a method of hormonal contraception. It s a small, square patch that looks
like a plastic bandage. It sticks to your skin and gradually releases hormones into your body to prevent
pregnancy. You replace it once per week.
The birth control patch was introduced in 2002. It s highly effective less than 1 percent of women who
use the patch according to its directions get pregnant while they use it.
How does it work?

Revenge in Hamlet and The Revenger s Tragedy Essay
In this study of revenge and revengers in two Elizabethan revenge tragedies the two plays I shall look
at are Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, and The Revenger s Tragedy, by Thomas Middleton. I shall
look first at the playwrights handling of the characters of the revengers, and then at the treatment of
the revengers by other characters in the plays.
Although having similarities in their underlying themes, and in their adherence to conventions, these
two plays present contrasting pictures of the figure of the revenger; Hamlet offering a far more
complex treatment of its main character, and The Revenger s Tragedy appearing, in comparison,
limited by the author s social message, and lacking in realistic characterisation.

Both revengers respond to, rather than initiate events, but Hamlet is much more an instrument of
others than Vindice, who is full of zest. Both characters carry a burden of guilt. Hamlet s Oedipus
complex, (Freud having informed us of the revenger s unconscious motives), is heavily aggravated by
the absence of his father and excessive closeness of his mother, and this accounts for the refocusing of
his patricidal wish onto Claudius, and shows how his need for revenge is internal, not purely a need to
resolve dissatisfaction with the affairs of the world , as is Vindice s. Hamlet s needs are deep and
complex, while for Vindice:
The smallest advantage fattens wronged men. [1.2.98]
Hamlet s internalisations arise because he has identified his ego with his father the lost object and is
therefore suffering from a loss of ego. His inward suffering is further intensified by his conflicts with
Ophelia and Gertrude, leading him to suicidal thoughts:
O that this too too sullied flesh would melt,
Thaw, and resolve itself into a dew!
Or that the Everlasting had not flx d
His canon gainst self slaughter! [1.2.129 132]
Hamlet is searching deep into his soul for explanations and resolutions, while Vindice simply waits for
that bald Madam Opportunity . [1.1.55]
Hamlet s delaying, compared to Vindice s incessant activity, shows that the two revengers are in a way
opposite in their approaches to the

A Brief Biography of Ivan the Terrible
Ivan IV Vasilyevich (1530 1584), was the first of two children of Basil III and Elena Glinskaya. Ivan
came into the world on August 25, 1530. Nearly a year after this Ivan s father died when he was only
three. Basil had died due to a small, little pimple on his thigh that had developed into a deadly sore.
Basil requested at his deathbed that his son Ivan would become the ruler of Russia when he became a
man at age 15. Once Basil died the boyars took over Russia, denying Ivan s right to the throne. Ivan s
mother then with other trusted boyars took over the ruling party. Elena was able to successfully rule
Russia for four years, until she died suddenly in 1538, apparently from poisoning, leaving eight year
old Ivan an orphan. They had ended and that Ivan had complete power. On Sunday, January 16, 1547,
Ivan was crowned czar in Moscow s lavish Cathedral of the Assumption. Ivan soon married Anastasia
Romanovna Zakharyina Yurueva. Anastasia bore him six children of whom only two survived infancy.
At times Ivan was very devote; he used to throw himself before the icons, banging his head against the
floor. It resulted in a callosity at his forehead. Once Ivan even did a public confession of his sins in
Moscow. During the beginning of Ivan s reign, the administrative functions of the government were
handled by two brothers of Ivan s mother, Prince Yuri Glinsky and Prince Mikhail Glinsky abused
their position in the government, mistreating the boyars and the citizens. Ivan vowed to

Costs and Opportunity Cost Essay
* Nobel Prize winning economist Ronald Coase noted, The cost of doing anything consists of the
receipts that could have been obtained if that particular decision had not been taken. For example, the
opportunity set for this Friday night includes the movies, a concert, staying home and studying,
staying home and watching television, inviting friends over, and so forth. The opportunity cost of
taking job A included the forgone salary of $102,000 plus the $5,000 of intangibles from job B.

Ddt Is A Strong Insecticide
Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, better known as DDT is a strong insecticide. DDT was first
produced in 1874. It was perfected and used to keep mosquitos away in the 1930 s. It was used in
World War 2 to keep away mosquitoes that carried deadly viruses off the military men. DDT was
banned from use in a few places in the 1970 s. It was banned from the United States in 1972.
However, in some areas it had been kept in use over the years and is still used in many parts of the
world today. The use of DDT has been in debate around the world for many years. There are many
pros and cons to using this insecticide.
Today areas in South America, Asia and Africa still use DDT. This makes sense because these are
some of the areas with the worst malaria outbreaks. The United States can still produce and sell DDT
to foreign countries, but it is illegal to use the product. It is made and kept on reserve for emergencies
involving bugs and diseases. That is only for extreme cases.
DDT is a good insecticide for a couple different reasons. One being that it is fairly inexpensive to
make. This was extremely convenient in times of war. Compared to other insecticides, pest services,
and bug controls, DDT can be 2 20 times less expensive. Another positive note for using DDT is the
insecticide is only slightly toxic to humans. To kill the bugs, the insecticide is absorbed through the
outer layer of the bugs skin, also known as its exoskeleton. Once inside the bugs flesh, it attacks their

  • 2. People Should Follow the Code of the West, Talk Less; Say... The code of the west is things to live by, they were never actually written down, but they were something that everyone in the west seemed to live by. It was a different time that these people lived in and a lot of the laws that they lived by are not even considered in today s society. One of the laws that I believe should people should always follow is talk less, say more. This is something that means a lot to me and the world that I live, and grew up in. This is a code that does affect you throughout your whole life and never loses meaning, no matter how young or old you are. Talk less; say more is the most important and the most meaningful rule in the codes of the west. This code, talk less; say more, is one that still really ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the game of basketball this is a big one. When someone falls and you help them up it says a lot about who you are as a person, yet if they fall and you say something to them that could be very rude, you are degrading yourself with the words that you have said. Players like this are known and people know them as the players that are very unrespectable and rude. The more they say the more they are hated and the less that people say the more they mean. Respect is something that is earned and it is not earned through the things that you say, but the things that you do. If you are trying to earn someone s respect I guarantee you that if you just talked to them all of the time they would not like for that. You have to prove it through the things that you do and the ways that you act. This was a big thing back in the west. If a new guy came to town he did not earn respect through all of the people he talked to and the stories that he told, because those were just stories. He had to earn it by what he did. This is where actions really speak louder than words. Respect is also something that everyone in life is looking for, whether they know it or not and sometimes they think they have done everything to deserve it, when really they have not done the most important thing; prove they can follow up and what they say. You have to be able to back up all of the words that come out of your mouth with actions because there is just talking about doing something and then there is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Plan of the Investigation To what extent was the role of Malcolm X significant in the rise of radical African American activism (1965 1968)? This investigation will assess the significance of Malcolm X s significance in giving rise to African American activism. Malcolm X s motives, involvement in the civil rights movement and his leadership will all be discussed in order to understand the extent of his significance. To add further understanding and provide justification a summarization of evidence will be included. Also, an evaluation of sources will allow for details which provide justification in saying that Malcolm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this source is limited due to the lack of discussion about his impact on many people and how he laid the foundation for many activist groups and organizations. D. Analysis When making the final evaluation of Malcolm X s role of significance in bringing rise to African American activism, tow aspects of his role must be evaluated. One includes his motivation and the other is what he wanted to accomplish. Malcolm X s motivation was his oppressed youth. When Malcolm was younger he and his family were harassed by the Ku Klux Klan which caused them to move to another part of Michigan. Sadly enough, after they moved, the racism became worse. A racist mob set his family s home on fire and all of the white emergency responders and firefighters watched their house burn down. Shortly after this, Malcolm X s father died and this sent his mother into a deep depression of shock and grief which eventually caused her to be submitted into a mental institution. Malcolm left home and after leaving, he became involved in drugs and crime. This became his motivation. He wanted to fight back and provide young black youth with better and more positive opportunities. However, it was not just young black youth he was advocating for, but it was all African Americans. As an outspoken civil rights leader in the 1960s, Malcolm X wanted to encourage black ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Commitment In Love You are a man eater, right? You are a fun lay, a good night, but commitment is not for you. You are fierce independence and unavailability. You prefer your own company because, you annoy yourself, but when you re alone at least no one else has that power. When did this become who you are? Did you get hurt? A million times? Just once? Was that too much for your heart made of tender flesh? What made you this person? Are you afraid? Are you just terrified because you fall in love with someone the instant they do anything that makes your heart drop? To combat the possible pain, you swear you do not love anyone or anything at all. If you cannot be the person who does not get heartbroken once a week then you are going to be the person who does not have a heart to break. Cold exterior, dark edge, you never let anyone closer than ten feet to you. You maintain your mystery and posterity by making sure no one ever crosses you. The best way to do that is by establishing your firm no bull policy early. God knows you are terrified. You want to be the person with your heart on your sleeve. You would love to be someone who believes in the sentiment of it is better to have loved and lost than never loved at all but you cannot bring yourself to do it. You cannot handle the destruction. You cannot bear the weight of having to rebuild yourself every single time. You cannot carry the cross of your own fragility. People ask about why you are like this. They ask why you haven t found anyone. You say something like my standards are just really high. On some level, that is absolutely true. You will not let just anyone in, if you are going to stop shooting them down before they have a chance, they really have to be something special. The problem is not that you do not let just anyone in, you just do not let anyone in. The scary part about being a damaged heart is that when you meet someone new, your defenses are at an all time high. Constantly on ready to run, always testing to see if they can handle your damage. You push away before anyone has a chance to get close. Some make it, though. It takes a while but you start to believe them when they say they are there to stay. You tell them you are a storm and they say they love ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Study Of The Dodd Frank Act Essay 2010 2016: A Study of the Dodd Frank Act s Role in a Slow U.S. Economic Recovery After the 2008 Financial Crisis The role that the Dodd Frank Act plays in the slow economic recovery from the 2008 financial crisis has many aspects. The regulatory and compliance component of the law helped to contribute to the slow economic recovery by adversely affecting the banking industry s ability to provide credit specifically the community banks, ability to provide enough credit to the small business and start up companies. The purpose of this paper is to show that there was a connection between the slow economic recovery and the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The 2007 financial crisis had been called the great recession because it was so severe. The government especially the Federal Reserve took unprecedented action to stabilize the market. The Federal Reserve is the central bank of the United State established in 1913. Hubbard and O Brien state that The Federal Reserve is task with monetary policy which is the management of the money supply and interest rate to pursue macroeconomic policy objectives (11). Possible etiologies could be chemotherapeutic agents, radiation, decreased physical performance, graft vs. host disease and infections. Of clinical importance is chemotherapy induced diarrhea, which has been reported as a grade 3 4 serious adverse event with a frequency of 5 47% in randomized clinical trials (Andreyev, 2014). Diarrhea is divided into different grading and these are Grade 1: increase to two to three bowel movements per day additional to number before treatment or mild increase in stoma output. Grade 2: increase to four to six bowel movements per day additional to number before treatment, moderate increase in stoma output, as well as moderate cramping ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to killing cancer cells, chemotherapy tends to kill other fast growing cells, such as those in your intestinal lining. Not all chemotherapy drugs cause diarrhea, most regimens used to treat gastrointestinal cancers, those used in patients with tumors at other sites such as breast cancer treated with docetaxel, capecitabine or folinic acid antagonists (such as methotrexate) also raise the risk of chemotherapy induced diarrhea. Radiation therapy that concentrates on the abdomen, pelvis or lower back can cause diarrhea. How serious the diarrhea will be depends on the radiation dose. The diarrhea can persist for weeks or months after treatment. It is also possible for diarrhea to begin days, months, and even years after treatment. If the surgeon must remove certain parts of the intestine in order to remove cancer, this might alter the intestine s ability to absorb nutrients and/or fat and may result in diarrhea. Chemotherapy and total body radiation therapy given in effects of bone marrow stem cell transplant can cause diarrhea. Diarrhea is also known to be a complication of graft versus host disease if received bone marrow stem cells are allogeneic. • 7. Essay on Animal Experimentation and Research Animal Experimentation and Research In the basement of the psychology department here, a poster hangs on the wall; on it is a picture of two white lab rats and a caption that reads, ?They?ve saved more lives than 911.? This poster hangs on the wall of the room where I performed brain surgery on a rat. Many people would be morally opposed to this and any other form of animal research and experimentation and feel that it should be banned. This heated debate has been going on for centuries with each side possessing strong arguments. A central argument to this debate is whether or not animals are moral patients, with feelings anId the ability to suffer, and if we as humans are entitled to use them as means. Many people feel that we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Likewise, R.G. Frey, who wrote a book titled Interests and Rights: The Case Against Animals, said that even though animals can experience unpleasant situations, they have no true desires, preferences, or memory (?Right from Wrong? 26). If we consider their arguments, it is possible to conclude that animals are not on the same level as humans, which morally allows us to use them for experimentation. Clearly, if everyone agreed that an animal is a member of the moral community? meaning on the same level as humans?then we would not have an ongoing debate. Perceiving an animal to be on the same level of humans in terms of moral implications would then mean that we must treat them as equals. This begins to introduce another fundamental issue involved in this debate: suffering. Jeremy Bentham introduced this idea with the ubiquitous statement, ?The question is not, Can they reason? nor Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?? This ability to suffer is often attributed to somebody who is a member of the moral community. Thus, if we assume animals do suffer, we must consider them equal to be almost equal to humans?at least equal moral patients. Yet, how exactly do we know they are suffering? Animals cannot directly communicate their suffering to us, and they could quite possibly be suffering at times that we do not think they should be. It is easier to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why Do Paper Towel Absorb The Most Water AIM: To determine which brand of 3 ply paper towel will absorb the most water HYPOTHESIS: Brands with thicker paper towels will absorb more water as there are more molecules present that are the key to absorbency in paper towels INTRODUCTION: The key to absorbency in paper towels are the fibers called cellulose molecules which are big molecules that consist of lots of tiny sugar molecules chained together. When a paper towel becomes wet, the water molecules rush in and cling onto the cellulose fibers which is why it is able to absorb the water. Therefore most of the time, thicker the paper towels means there will be more fibers resulting in more water absorbed. In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The results in the table show that the paper towels from the brand Kleenex was able to absorb the most water as it was the thickess, therefere proving my hypothesis, thicker paper towels will absorb more water, correct. The results also showed that different paper towels absorb different amounts of water, some more and some less. The fibers that make up the paper towel are what enables the towel itself to absorb water. The more fibers, the more water is absorbed which is why Kleenex was the most successful paper towel brand in this experiment as it was more thick and held more fibers. There weren t many weaknesses identified in the experiment design but there were a few disadvantages of doing this experiment, the main one being that whlist the paper towel was removed from the beaker using our fingers. This may of slightly affected the results as some of the water may of fell back into the beaker or were stuck to our fingers. To avoid this, tongs should be used instead. An unforeseen problem that arouse during the experiment was that we could not measure anything beneath 100ml with the 500ml beaker so we had to improvise and use a measuring cynliner which solved the problem but also affected the results as some of the water could ve remained ... • 10. The Architect s Use of Space The architects use of space Ludvig Mies van Der Rohe s Barcelona Pavilion is one of his most famous architectural constructions, and was built in 1928 29. As stated earlier the Barcelona Pavilion was built in Barcelona, Spain as a German national Pavilion for the Barcelona International Exposition of 1929 and the Chaos and Classism art and design show in 1918 1936, which was a reaction to the chaos of the World War I and contains works that includes painting, film, sculptures, photography and architecture. It is built form glass, steel and several kinds of marble. After the Pavilion was disassembled in 1930 after the exhibition closed, the building became a key part not only in the career of Mies van der Rohe, but also for the rest of the twentieth century architectural world. The contents of these are now regulated under the Companies Act 1985, and form the constitution of the company. The second principle was established in the case of Foss v Harbuttle . The company in such an instance is the proper plaintiff to instigate such an action. Only in exceptional circumstances will the court interfere with a decision taken by the company to sanction the alleged wrongful act. There are two parts to this doctrine; firstly that the courts will not interfere in the internal management of the company. Tourette syndrome (TS) is a neuropsychiatric disorder involving motor and vocal tics. Typical onset occurs around 5 7 years and it is associated with comorbid conditions such as OCD or ADHD. There is evidence that TS is an inherited disorder as shown in familial and twin studies, but the exact genetic pathology or etiology is still unknown. Light and Dark in Heart of Darkness Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness is a tragic tale of the white man s journey into the African jungle. When we peel away the layers, however, a different journey is revealed we venture into the soul of man, complete with the darkness of depravity as well as the wonderful. In this essence Conrad uses this theme of light and darkness to contrast the civilized European world with the savage African world in Heart of Darkness. As aforementioned, within Heart of Darkness, Conrad uses light and dark to symbolize good and evil, respectively. It is whiteness that is truly sinister and evil, for it symbolizes the immoral scramble for loot by the unscrupulous and unfeeling Belgian traders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As well as the obvious difference between the white and black, we can perhaps see how the boy is trapped beneath and within white greed. This leads me on to the struggle between the white people and the native tribes, which plays into the next theme, that of light versus dark. From the very start, Marlow, the main character, creates a sense of darkness. At last, in its curved and imperceptible fall, the sun sank low, and from glowing white changed to a dull red without rays and without heat, as if about to go out suddenly, stricken to death by the touch of that gloom brooding over a crowd of men (Conrad 28). The use of imperceptible shows the way in which darkness falls without distinction, it sneaks up on the reader and indeed the scene. The dull red is lifeless and without energy and remains stagnant in its nature. Finally the use of the description, stricken to death the finally notion of darkness at its worse is given. Marlow s use of a modern city is the first glimpse of what he considers civilized and more importantly, uncivilized. Marlow begins by speaking of the occupants of the boat. He explains that the owner of the boat is an accountant and a lawyer. This fact alludes to the idea of what might be considered civilized. Furthermore the discussion he talks about the lights that are reflected in the water. This also creates the idea that he considers himself and the passengers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To make matters worse, the nation s plummeting birth rates are blamed on its women. The United States, now renamed the Republic of Gilead, retains power the use of piousness, purges, and violence. A Puritan theocracy, the Republic of Gilead, with its religious trappings and rigid class, gender, and racial castes is built around the singular desire to control reproduction. Despite this, the republic is inhabited by characters who would not seem out of place in today s society. They plant flowers in the yard, live in suburban houses, drink whiskey in the den and follow a far off a war on the television. The film leaves the conditions of the war and the society vague, but this is not a political tale, like Fahrenheit 451, but rather a feminist one. As such, the film, isolates, exaggerates and dramatizes the systems in which women are the handmaidens of today s society in general and men in particular. In the Republic of Gilead, children are seen as lawful possessions of wealthy, powerful couples like the Commander and his wife. It can happen to anyone and that is why we need to raise awareness and do more to alleviate this modern day slavery. More than one person is trafficked across the border every day. Some estimates say that more than 700,000 people get trafficked each year for sexual corruption and involuntary labor. Traffickers want to prey on the weak, those who want a better life, have little or no employment opportunities, very unstable, and those who have been abused sexually. Since this is very common in society, anybody can simply become a victim. Human trafficking is perhaps one of the most profitable crimes. According to Farr (2012), Human trafficking is believed to be a $7 to $12 billion industry and is ranked third, after the sale of arms and medication, as the most profitable enterprise. Issues like global political and economic problems in some areas of the world, with other epidemic cases of poverty and exclusion of entire groups of people, contribute to making human trafficking susceptible to victims. Due to these issues, it becomes simple to trap people to believe that employment opportunities help ease economic problems for them. • 23. The Problems Associated With Hegemonic Masculinity Essay THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH HEGEMONIC MASCULINITY IN SOCIETY Introduction The discourse of hegemonic masculinity was recently explored to understand the power of men in society (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005). For centuries, men have taken a dominant gender role in society. This has resulted in the oppression of women and the subordination of men who do not confine to the masculine norms (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005). This essay explores the discourse of hegemonic masculinity by explaining how it is reflected throughout society, and how it is connected to femininity and other masculinities. The aim is to criticise hegemonic masculinity by explaining the negative pressure it puts on both women and men. Masculinity Hegemony To understand the concrete basis of hegemonic masculinity more easily, the terms hegemonic and masculinity will be deconstructed. Hegemonic represents what is dominant and most powerful in a societal or political context (Merriman Webster, n.d.). Masculinity is a socially constructed term that represents behaviour that is socially acceptable for men (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005; Lynch, 2009). Therefore, hegemonic masculinity refers to a set of norms and practices that are deemed as the dominant norm for men (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005; Lynch, 2009). Although the term is tied with men, hegemonic masculinity is not tied to the biological form of men. Alternatively, it is a gendered performance which means that its associated ... An Analysis of Research Article Introductions Using the CARS Model in the Interdisciplinary Field of Computer Science and Hospitality Management Writing a good research article (RA) is essential for scholars and scientists. As genre analysis has become more mainstream over the past few years, there are a lot of researchers using CARS model, which was designed by Swales (1990), to study research article instructions (RAIs). As stated by Swales Feak (2012), there are three moves in the introductory sections of RAs: (1) establishing a territory, (2) establishing a niche and (3) occupying the niche, and they have a very predictable order of occurrence. In addition, there are sub moves called steps, some of which are obligatory, while others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also argued that the variations in the presence of certain steps may be greater than Swales CARS model indicated both in different fields and their sub disciplines. For example, the step where the remaining RA structure is summarized has a very high occurrence in electrical and electronic engineering RAIs compared to other disciplines, even though it is not obligatory. Furthermore, introductions in software engineering were found to be rather long because they used a great amount of cycling, a repetitive use of the moves back and forth, in order to make sure that readers will have enough background information to understand the articles which is contrary to some of Swales observations. For instance, Shehzad (2012) discovered that the cycling of move 2 appeared frequently in computer science echoing past findings. All of these examples show how the CARS model is used differently depending on RPs subject. Juxtaposing the use of CARS model in RAIs of computer science and hospitality management, one can clearly see how the applications of CARS model can vary. Rafik Galea, Mello Arumugam (2013) stated that move 3 was the most important and frequently utilized of the three moves in hospitality management RAIs. They also indicated that the most common ordering of the moves in hospitality was move 1 move 3 move 3. • 32. Costs and Opportunity Cost Essay * Nobel Prize winning economist Ronald Coase noted, The cost of doing anything consists of the receipts that could have been obtained if that particular decision had not been taken. For example, the opportunity set for this Friday night includes the movies, a concert, staying home and studying, staying home and watching television, inviting friends over, and so forth. The opportunity cost of taking job A included the forgone salary of $102,000 plus the $5,000 of intangibles from job B. Opportunity cost is the sacrifice of the best alternative for a given action. Public accounting firms confront this issue. The car s opportunity cost in the decision to keep it for resale is $7,200, but in matching expenses to revenues, the ... The 50 gallons cost $1,000. GX 100 has a shelf life of 30 days after the drum is opened before it becomes unstable and must be discarded. Because of the hazardous nature of GX 100 and the other chemicals Emrich uses, Emrich works closely with Environ Disposal, a company specializing in the disposal of hazardous wastes. At the time of ordering the GX 100, Emrich anticipated no other orders in the May June time period that could use the remaining 25 gallons of GX 100. Knowing it would have 25 gallons remaining, it built $1,000 into the cost of the job to cover the cost of the GX 100 plus an additional $400 to cover the cost of having Environ dispose of the remaining 25 gallons. On June 1, a customer called and asked for a price bid for a rush job to be completed on June 5. This job will use 25 gallons of GX 100. Emrich is preparing to bid on this order. • 33. Ddt Is A Strong Insecticide Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, better known as DDT is a strong insecticide. DDT was first produced in 1874. It was perfected and used to keep mosquitos away in the 1930 s. It was used in World War 2 to keep away mosquitoes that carried deadly viruses off the military men. DDT was banned from use in a few places in the 1970 s. It was banned from the United States in 1972. However, in some areas it had been kept in use over the years and is still used in many parts of the world today. The use of DDT has been in debate around the world for many years. There are many pros and cons to using this insecticide. Today areas in South America, Asia and Africa still use DDT. This makes sense because these are some of the areas with the worst malaria outbreaks. The United States can still produce and sell DDT to foreign countries, but it is illegal to use the product. It is made and kept on reserve for emergencies involving bugs and diseases. That is only for extreme cases. DDT is a good insecticide for a couple different reasons. One being that it is fairly inexpensive to make. This was extremely convenient in times of war. Compared to other insecticides, pest services, and bug controls, DDT can be 2 20 times less expensive. Another positive note for using DDT is the insecticide is only slightly toxic to humans. To kill the bugs, the insecticide is absorbed through the outer layer of the bugs skin, also known as its exoskeleton. Once inside the bugs flesh, it attacks their nervous ...
