Colon cancer The large intestines are a part of the digestive system (Colorectal cancer, 2015). The
large intestines (large bowels) are made up of the colon and the rectum (What is colorectal cancer,
2016). The colon is five feet long muscular tube that makes up the majority of the large bowel (What
is colorectal cancer, 2016). After food goes through the small intestines, of the digestive system, the
colon absorbs the salt and water from the food that remains and the waste matter (feces) is the
byproduct (What is colorectal cancer, 2016). The feces is then expelled from the body through the
anus (What is colorectal cancer, 2016).

The localized stage is stage where cancer is only found in the part of the body where it originated from
(Surveillance, epidemiology, and end results program, n.d.). In Virginia, 39% of colorectal cancers are
detected at the localized stage (Cancer in Virginia, 2014). The 2012 Behavioral Risk Factor
Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey reported that 69% of Virginia adults age 50 or older reported
that they have had a colon cancer screening (Cancer in Virginia, 2014).
Guaiac based Fecal Occult Blood Test
The guaiac based Fecal Occult Blood Test (gFOBT) is a screening test for colorectal cancer (A guide
to FOBT, n.d.). The guaiac based Fecal Occult Blood Test uses the chemical reagent guaiac to detect
the presence of heme in stool (A guide to FOBT, n.d.). Colorectal neoplasms can cause blood (heme)
in the stool because the blood vessels on the surface of colorectal cancer and/or colorectal polyps have
fragile blood vessels that are easily damaged when feces pass through the large bowel (A guide to
FOBT, n.d.). A small amount of blood from the fragile colorectal polyps and cancer vessels merge
with the stool (A guide to FOBT, n.d.). The small amount of blood that is combined with the stool
from the colorectal polyps and cancer vessels is not visibly noticeable in the stool (A guide to FOBT,
n.d.). Consequently, Fecal Occult Blood Tests, such as gFOBT, can be used to detect the small amount
of blood that can be found in the stool if a person has colorectal polyps or cancer (A

Humor In The Chahonesque
Introduction Humour is an universal human characteristic which all cultures posses. In the British
society it is important to have humour, because it is seen as demonstration of health and well
being.Humour firstly appeared in British literature during the Middle Ages, when Chaucer developed
the storytelling tradition along with the ironies that resulted from the juxtaposition of people from
different classes and points of view.Britain s ancient class system has always been a mystery to
strangers and a great source of humourfascination. In the past, the British were expected to know their

My Childhood Memories Of Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico held many of my most cherished childhood memories. The 3 years my family spent there
were some of the best years of my life. I remember the day we arrived there and settled into a hotel to
live temporarily. I wasn t sure why I couldn t understand my favorite cartoons anymore. A man with a
daughter my age took me to school during the first week and I couldn t understand that man either. My
parents explained to me that they spoke Spanish and soon enough in school, I was learning the
language. We lived in a small house on a Navy base on the east side of the island in a city called
Ceiba. All of the houses were nearly identical, all of them small, grey and made of concrete to protect
against hurricanes. There was a park in my backyard that all the kids from the neighborhood would
come to play at, but even better for me, there was a mysterious patch of woods behind that park. I
would spend most of my days there walking along the trail and looking for interesting flowers, eat
wild bananas straight from the tree, and sometimes finding iguana eggs. Nature played a big role in
my life during those years. During the night, I would call asleep the sweet sounds of Coquí, a small
tree frog that has a beautiful call, outside of my bedroom window. Sometimes, I was brave enough to
attempt to catch a wild iguana. I would ready my pillow case and creep slowly toward the animal,
only to get spotted by it and slapped harshly by its tail. I still hold a grudge against

American Prison Chapter 2 Summary
Summary: Chapter 2 discusses correctional history. Two French visitors were able to compare and
contrast their experience in an American prison. Early punishment in the western countries consisted
of whipping, branding, mutilation, drowning, suffocation, execution, and banishment. The first
correctional facility were jails and influenced by Catholic Churches in the middle age times. This
chapter introduces two individuals that were very influential to the correction system, John Howard,
and William Penn. John Howard could persuade the government to lighten the punishment, separate
jails for females and males, provide sanitary, food, and water. William Penn served jail time but was
released due to wealth. Later in life he was given the opportunity to propose laws he used this moment
to fix how inmates are treated. He was against harsh punishment. ... Show more content on

I don t believe all criminal are bad people or should be treated like an animal. I don t believe all
prisoners are guilty. I wish the prison system was designed to provide women etiquette and business
classes and men training classes such as plumbing and more training along those lines. I would much
rather felons come out of prison with a better mind set instead of knowing they had nothing but time
to develop more criminal skills from their peers. I am thankful most prison is gender specific because
this helps protect women

How Does Religion And Science Relate Together
Research Note:
Inquiry focus: How does religion and science relate together
The relationship between religion and science has been a subject of study since classical antiquity,
addressed by philosophers, theologians, scientists, and others. Different concept come from different
geographical regions, cultures and history. most scientific and technical innovations prior to the
scientific revolution were achieved by societies organized by religious traditions. The scientific
method were beginning by ancient pagan, Islamic, and Christian. In the ancient and medieval world,
the etymological Latin roots of both science and religion were understood as inner qualities of the
individual or virtues.
The central difference between science and religion is science rely on experimental verification, while

Religion and Science: Competitors or Companions. Can Religion and Science coexist each other or
not? This is a good topic for philosophy. A lot of scientists also have religious conviction, such as
Galileo, Alister McGrath. Science studies how the heavens go, religion how to get to heaven. Science
is investigates objective empirical facts, religion subjective questions of true meaning. Science and
Religion must exist an overlapping field. Science without religion is lame, religion without science is
blind.

Over the course of an organizations life span, they will face issues with their environments which can
threaten the business unit, damage financial performance or destroy the public s trust in an
organization (Seeger, Sellnow, Ulmer, 1998). These issues or what can be called a crisis, can occur for
many reasons and can be the result of unpredictable events or unforeseeable consequences. Any
organization can be faced with a crisis which is considered any substantial disruption in operations
that physically affect an organization, its basic assumptions, or its core activities (Parnell, 2014).

We have begun to strengthen our internal issues such as quality in order to decrease the affects it has
on our production and can have with our organization s ability to produce product. To limit the quality
damage, we have created technical teams to understand the issues and are working with our vendors

break downs in the process. We have also incorporated technology into the processes so we can gather

impact of losing employees to the new facility, the organization has started to pull in team members to

Use of Violence as the Main Reason for Mussolini s...
Use of Violence as the Main Reason for Mussolini s Consolidation of Power from 1922 1928
Introduction
· Several reasons why Mussolini was able to consolidate his power between 1922 and 1928, such as
Mussolini?s actions and strategy, co operation from the elite and the failure of his opposition.
· However, I believe the most significant reason was the use of violence.
Paragraph 1: Use of Violence
· July 1923: The Chamber, surrounded by Blackshirts, passed the Acerbo Law. This said that the party
gaining the most votes in an election, provided that they obtained at least 25% of the votes, would take
two thirds of the seats.
· April 1924: Militia violence during the election. 1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
· May 1924: Matteotti Crisis ? the murder of Matteotti led to the Aventine Secession and Mussolini
setting up his dictatorship.
· Can see it was a very significant reason.
Paragraph 2: Mussolini?s Actions and Strategy
· November 1922: Mussolini?s first speech as Prime Minister to the Chamber of Deputies. With its
mixture of references to legality and intimidation it appealed to both the elite and the ras.
· July 1923: Acerbo Law. A good tactic however it may not have been passed without the intimidation
of the Blackshirts. Therefore violence is a more important factor.
Paragraph 3: Failure of the Opposition
· April 1924: Whilst the government drew up its list of approved candidates for the election,
conveniently for Mussolini the opposition remained split, and the Communist Party rejected a PSI
proposal for a joint Left list. The various Liberal factions also failed to agree on one list.
· Aventine Secession: third of the MP?s leave parliament and try to form a new government. They
think the King will dismiss Mussolini. However this was a tactical error as the official parliament now
has no critics of Mussolini.
· Potential critics kept quiet. However this is mainly due to their fear of the Blackshirts, and therefore
I believe Blackshirt violence was a more important

Dante s Divine Comedy Summary
Dante s Divine Comedy
[1]
Dante s Divine Comedy is considered by many the supreme literary work not only of medieval
Christendom but of the Christian faith in general. Rivaled only by Milton s Paradise Lost. Never has a
poet given a more compelling vision of Christian love than Dante in his Commedia (the Divina was
added after Dante s death). This massive and intricate structure of almost fifteen thousand lines, or one
hundred cantos, is divided equally into three large sections Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso that
correspond to Dante s conception of the states of souls not only after death but in life as well. This
forms what Dante himself called the sacred poem. A stirring drama of the human soul discovering the
life of faith in a faithless world.
Pilgrim and Poet
[2]
Using himself as a fictional character, Dante the poet relates what happens to Dante the pilgrim in the
Comedy when, midway in the journey of our life, he awakes to find himself lost in the dark and
savage wood, he has somehow left the straight way but is delivered from death when a figure of great
importance in his life appears from the dead to intervene. Sent by Beatrice, who has descended from
heaven into hell to call him to this task, the pagan poet Virgil comes to guide Dante back to the true
path. The lost pilgrim must travel through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven, the three realms of the
afterlife that reveal God s justice and his love.

Physiological Perception Filters
When a person glimpses the face of a famous actor, sniffs a favourite food or hears the voice of a
friend, recognition is instant. Within a fraction of a second after the eyes, nose, ears, tongue or skin is
stimulated, one knows the object is familiar and whether it is desirable or dangerous. How does such
recognition, which psychologists call preattentive perception, happen so accurately and quickly, even
when the stimuli are complex and the context in which they arise varies?
Much is known about the way the cerebral cortex, the outer rind of the brain, initially analyses sensory
messages. Yet investigations are only now beginning to suggest how the brain moves beyond the mere
extraction of features how it combines sensory messages with ... Show more content on

PHASE PORTRAITS made from electroencephalograms (EEGs)
generated by a computer model of the brain reflect the overall activity of
the olfactory system at rest (above) and during perception of a familiar
scent (right). Resemblance of the portraits to irregularly shaped, but still
structured, coils of wire reveals that brain activity in both conditions is
chaotic: complex but having some underlying order. The more circular
shape of the right hand image, together with its greater segregation of
colour, indicates that olfactory EEGs are more ordered more nearly
periodic during perception than during rest.
Also, how does the brain achieve what is called generalization over equivalent receptors? Because of
turbulence in nasal airflow, only a few of the many receptors that are sensitive to an odorant are
excited during a sniff, and the selection varies unpredictably from one sniff to the next. How does the
brain recognize that signals from different collections of receptors all refer to the same stimulus? Our
investigations begin to suggest answers to both problems.
Many of our insights were derived from intensive studies of the olfactory bulb. Those experiments
show clearly that every neuron in the bulb participates in generating each olfactory perception. In
other words, the salient information about the stimulus is carried in some

Pros And Cons Of Job Design In The Workplace
When looking at job design in the workplace, we know it is an enhancement in job satisfaction, that
will improve quality and to reduce employee problems in the workforce. It is also referred to as a task
or a work design that is the fundamental of human resources in the management of organizations Job
design is the main part in organizations tasks to groups and individuals with in the business world.
There are core dimensions in job design that are skill variety, task identity, task signification,
autonomy, and feedback. We use these dimensions to better understand which job designs that better
suit organizations when deciding to work in group/teams or simply working independently. A
successful job design whether in groups or individuals will result in a higher and increased
performance and productivity. Overall, there are three broad factors that affect the job design that are
organizational factors (work nature, workflow, and practices/ergonomics), environmental factors
(employee availability/abilities and the socio economics and cultural expectations), and finally
behavioral factors (factors of human need: autonomy, feedback, diversity, and the use of
skills/abilities). As reading through different material there are many pros and cons in whether
deciding if all jobs should be designed around groups rather than individual based organizations.
Should all jobs be designed primarily around a group setting in the workforce? To answer this
question, we must first

What impressed me the most about this section of the text is how scary it is when Nancy goes in the

immediately and the way Capote conveys this is incredible because he almost creates a jump scare
environment.
A. Some concrete words that I found in this section were flat, rain, Holcomb, Heartman s Café,
strangers, Santa Fe Railroad, Arkansas River, and Route 50. Some abstract words are blue, high,
gracefully, thickest, unfeared, good looking, consolidated, and flaking. The words that dominate this
section are concrete by far and it is a result of the fact that Capote uses the story being about a events
and murders that really happened. The verbs that Capote uses are more positive but owds the end turn
a bit shady. No noteable adjectives or adverbs.
B. Some concrete words that are in this section include Oklahoma, November, Clutters, playroom,
Methodist minister, sheriff, and Holcomb. Some abstract words are small, radically, gripping, across,

Truman Capote created a passage fueled by fear and in doing that he used several abstract words. The
verbs that Capote uses are very gloomy and even bring fear to the readers. No notable adjectives or

Cultural Differences Of Native Americans
The Cheyenne Indians There are many different types of cultures, languages, and religion out in this

Causes Of Mass Extinction
Throughout the history of earth there have been five mass extinction events that have wiped out most
life on earth. To go into detail the first mass extinction event happened over 439 million years ago due
to glaciation and falling sea levels were around 86% of the life on earth was wiped out. The second
happened around 364 million years ago killing around 75% of species. Giant plants were presumed
responsible for this event because of their deep roots that released nutrients into the ocean which,
resulted in mass amounts of algal bloom that depleted the seas of oxygen. The worst mass extinction
occurred 251 million years ago, during the Permian Triassic period that wiped out around 96% of
species. A gigantic volcanic eruption filled the air with carbon dioxide which fed different kinds of
bacteria that began emitting large amounts of methane. As a result the earth warmed up and the oceans
became acidic. Afterwards the Triassic Jurassic extinction happened between 199 million and 214
million years ago. The cause of this extinction is thought to be an asteroid impact, climate change, and
flood basalt eruptions. During this period dinosaurs came the rule over most of the earth. Finally, the
Cretaceous Paleogene extinction happened around 65 million years ago. A combination of volcanic
activity, climate change, and asteroid impact effectively ended 76% of life on earth including the
dinosaurs. And through these mass extinctions there has been few who have lived through

Ankle Braces Research Paper
Ankle sprains are the most common injury in indoor volleyball, and very few things spark intenses
debate in the volleyball community more than the question about using ankle braces to prevent these
type of injuries. The majority of ankle sprains are when the ankle inverts or rolls in, this occurs most
often while playing at the net where players make contact with each others feet when landing from a
jump during a spike or a block. The theory behind bracing is that the brace reduces abnormal ankle
movement. I think that ankle braces should be allowed because they help reduce ankle injuries and
increase your vertical; however many people also believe that ankle braces can potentially slow you
down and worsen your performance.

The Presidency Of 44th Us President Barak Obama
The presidency of 44th US President Barak Obama has been marked with rather prominent and
significant shifts in policy, reverberating throughout many areas of the country. One of the president s
most controversial proposals that has yet to be fully acted upon is providing a pathway to citizenship
for undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States. Supporters of the legislation point
to a variety of moral and economic reasons to justify their position while opponents retaliate with their
own concerns about the fairness of this policy action. For many against this pathway, citizenship is a
delicate conceptual idea that already has a clearly defined pathway within the United States.
Citizenship is often a rather subjective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can further be argued that Aristotle is solely interest in the actions of the citizen in regard to their
virtue than simply their relative nature or disposition. In order to have a great appreciation for biology,
it could be argued that one should have a basic understanding and appreciation of the cells that
compose all life on Earth. In the same vein, a chemist might be more appreciative of chemical
reactions when they are able to understanding the reactions happening at the molecular level between
the elements involved. Much in the same way, Aristotle as an appreciator of the state attempts to gain
a better understand of what makes up that state by proclaiming, a state is composite, and, like any
other whole, made up of many parts; these are the citizens, who compose it. (Arist. Pol. III,1, 2).
When trying to demystify the term of citizenship, Aristotle is quick to dismiss multiple commonly
associated definitions. For example, many would assume that living in a state is enough to make one a
citizen of said state. However, as Aristotle argues, there are a variety of people that live in the state
such as women and slaves that do not have the ability to exercise certain political rights and also lack
the ability to be a citizen. This definition can generally be agreed upon even when relating it back to
the world today where numerous people can live in a state but not be citizens, such as the
aforementioned undocumented immigrants in the

Samuel Johnson Are The Guardians Of The English Language
Drawing on the discussion of Samuel Johnson s Dictionary in Reading B of Unit 2, critically evaluate
Mitchell s (2005) claim that, while grammarians were the guardians of the English language in the
seventeenth century, lexicographers assumed that role in the eighteenth century .
The rules and explanations of Grammar are different than texts and language in terms of words,
sounds, sentences, and some other elements of language too. Grammar works on combined
explanation of language and interpretations as well. The publication of Samuel Johnson got popularity
all over the world in the history of English language. He worked more than nine years to writing such

Essay On Hamlet Act 2
Often, the rising action of a play takes place in the second act. A rising action may include all the
decisions a character makes, character development, intensification of conflicts and of relationships.
All of these create the drama and tension that is needed to build up the climax of the story. In the
Shakespearean tragedy, Hamlet, Act II sets the scene for possible actions and conflicts in the future.
The transition from Act I to Act II helps the reader to identify development in important characters,
conflicts, and in relationships that will appropriately create the tension necessary before the climax of
the play. In Act I, Hamlet expresses his intense grief for the death of his father and describes the world
as an unweeded garden in his first soliloquy. Hamlet seems to be severely depressed and is lacking the
motivation to do anything. However, when he learns of the details of his father s murder, he becomes
enraged and determined to avenge his death. In Act II, the reader is able to realize the change in
Hamlet s formerly desolate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Villers-Bretonneux Battle Analysis

This was a vital, ferocious, do or die attack, and as long as the night advance lasted, no quarter was

the town of Villers Bretonneux in the Picardy region of Northern France. It took place on the 24th and

Themes In Educating Rita
Tajanay Keaton Chesson
November 28, 2017
Extra Credit: Educating Rita
In the film, Educating Rita, the life of a young working class woman dreams of pursuing an English
literature degree to help her gain social mobility. Rita, a 26 year old blue collar Liverpool hairdresser,
meets an English tutor, Dr. Frank Bryant in hopes that she would discover and experience true
happiness. Dr. Bryant is a wealthy alcoholic academic who suffers from low self esteem and
confidence and would eventually fall in love with Rita s unwitty ability to adapt to academia life and
her continuous commitment to change and grow as a writer. This an example of how blue collar
workers are identified to be more independent, natural, and spontaneous people compared to white
collar workers. Generally, we think of blue collar workers as less organized than white collar workers
regarding student success. The film relates to the book Unequal Childhoods: Class, Race, and Family
Life, where Annette Lareau believes that a family s social class position predicts an individual school
success and their ultimate life chances (Lareau, 2003, p. 29). Lareau (2003) highlights three reasons
why social class matters for blue collar workers, one is the organization of daily life, the second is
language use, and the third is interactions between families and institutions (p. 11). Working class or
blue collar workers tend to communicate poorly compared to white collar workers. The central

Gender Gap Within The Fields Of Science, Technology,...
In LIBS 6137 I analyzed topics that affected today s teens. I found that a gender gap exists in the
fields of science and technology. Females are underrepresented in the area of Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematical (STEM) related careers. According to research, girls should be
encouraged to pursue their interests, find mentors, and collaborate with others in the areas of science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics. In light of these findings, I presented a booktalk to a group
of girls ages 15 19 on six books in which the main characters are strong women who have a special
interest or talent in STEM related subjects. A handout was also created for each student and the host.
The handout contained a description of the six books presented in the booktalk, similar books that may
be of interest to students on the same topic, as well as websites, magazines, software, and videos. A
total of eighteen resources were included that fit into the STEM topic presented to students. Digital
evaluation forms were created for the students and the host of the booktalk to complete. My personal
experience and data gathered from the evaluation forms were used to create a self evaluation narrative.

Luxury Car Market
There are distinctive barriers to entry in the automotive industry. The main 10 firms operating in the
automotive industry have great power in terms of reputation, finances, experience, technology and
existing large product portfolios. It would be highly difficult for a new company to compete with the
above. The existing companies within the industry are joining forces, which at times do have
detrimental effects for new comers to the market and for some existing companies. For instance, the
situation of Rover in the UK. In the past, the profitable components of Rover were purchased by
BMW and Ford, and Rover was left producing poor quality and old vehicles, which consequently led
to its bankruptcy in April, 2005 (BBC, April ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

activities of Ford allow them to be pioneers in certain production technologies (Kochan, 2001).
Weaknesses In an attempt to attract younger generations to purchase Jaguar cars, Ford introduced

The Ethical Controversy of a Nurse`s Role in Harm Reduction
Harm reduction can be defined as an approach that aims to reduce the consequences of high risk
behaviours such as injection drug use on the individual and on society as a whole. Harm reduction
programs provide injection drug users with access to a clean injection environment, sterile injections,
drug preparation equipment and safe disposal of contaminated material at the time of injection. Staff
members in harm reduction facilities provide health teaching, anonymous HIV testing, information on
addiction treatment, condoms and assist in connecting clients to social and health services (Semaan et

diseases, accounting for almost one third of new HIV infections outside sub Saharan Africa (Ball,

linked to injection drug use. A study conducted by Semaan et al. that analyzed data of 10,301 persons

Essay about Leslie Marmon Silko, “Lullaby”
American Mosaic, July 2011 FOCUS: Leslie Marmon Silko, Lullaby Lullaby is a short story that first
appeared in a book entitled Storyteller in 1981. This was a book written by Leslie M. Silko that uses
short stories, memories, poetry, family pictures, and songs to present her message. The book is
concerned, in general, with the tradition of story telling as it pertains to the Native American culture.
Lullaby seems to be a story of tradition, change, death, loss and the tensions fostered as a result of

Brian Eno s Furniture Music
This traditional Eastern idea of living in harmony with nature contrasts sharply with the Western
practice of control and manipulation of the environment,
The earliest precursor I can think of for Eno s concept is Furniture Music, or Musique d ameublement,
by Erik Satie and Darius Milhaud, premiered in 1917. This is the first piece in history expressly
designed not to be listened to. Apparently, Satie ran around among the audience at the first
performance crying don t listen, don t listen , a difficult instruction to follow as the piece is quite
interesting, and it is hard to ignore music being played right in front of you

Analysis Of Blood Meridian Or The Evening Redness Of The West
Blood Meridian or the Evening Redness in the West, is a novel written by an author by the name of
Cormac McCarthy. Cormac McCarthy wrote this to show a teenage runaway perspective of living on
your own during the late 1800 s. Throughout this novel, McCarthy shows the reader the feeling of
being in hell and describing a kid s journey through hell. This eye opening novel takes place in Texas,
Mexico and the American Southwest, Circa. This historical fiction novel is surprisingly accurate when
describing the events that occurred during the situations in the Southwestern U.S. and Mexico around
the 1850 s. McCarthy s Blood Meridian contains a lot of violent and bloody events that build up to the
subjugation of the Apaches, as well as other Native tribes, and the southwestern expansion of the
United States of America. All these events are proven to be an accurate description of the way
Indigenous people were treated and how they lived throughout this time. The story Blood Meridian or
the Evening Redness of the West, explains a couple of the major frontier themes of a man s kinship for
violence, religion, and power in the Western American History. These can be found as the theme
depending on the way the reader interprets it. The story represents the traditions of the American
Southwest, as the kid meets different people with different perspectives on life. This novel describes a

I grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia and went ginseng hunting a few times as teenager.
It was a rare tree then and you would spend hours walking around the woods just to find a few trees.
As the demand grew more and more people are hunting for it and some of them do so with very little
care for the future of the plant. We used to look for the stem scars on the top of the rhizome, the
wrinkles on the top of the root as you called it, by digging around the trunk a little to see if the tree
was mature enough to harvest. Many people now dig them up and then check to see if they are mature
enough which kills the young plant. The high demand and price has led to it being even more rare and

Embryonic Stem Cell Argumentative Essay
Embryonic stem (ES) cells are stem cells that come from the undifferentiated inner mass cells of a
human embryo. These embryonic stem cells are pluripotent, meaning that they are able to grow into
all derivatives of the primary germ layers: ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm. These cells usually
come from human embryos that are in the early stages of development called blastocyst. These
blastocyst have cells that have the ability and potential to become some or many different cells of the
body. This of course depending on whether the cell is pluripotent or totipotent. Totipotent cells have
the ability to become all cell types. Embryonic stem cells have the ability to grow indefinitely and
maintain their pluripotency which can be used to treat or cure multiple diseases but due to the nature
of the cells origin the use of these cells is controversial. Much of stem cell research controversy comes
from religious based criticism, and the question: what point does a person consider life to begin? ...

Theu.s. Invasion Of Grenada
The U.S. invasion of Grenada was the first major U.S. military operation ever since the end of the
Vietnam War. Undeniably, many have concluded that it may have in part been an assessment of the
purported Vietnam syndrome, the alleged condition that makes it problematic for the American public
to support U.S. military interference deprived of a just cause. As with Iraq, the early defences for the
invasion proved to be either extremely debatable or obviously false, hitherto it still received bipartisan
support in Congress and the approval of nearly two thirds of the American public. The invasion of
Grenada by the U.S was very unusual compared to other 20th century wars. It was by far the easiest,
shortest and most successful invasion for the United States during the 20th century period. The United
States intervention in Grenada has been characterised by some as a rescue mission, by others an act of
aggression. Therefore the purpose of this essay is to analyse and examine the reasons and causes
behind the U.S. led invasion into Grenada during the latter part of 1983, as well as the consequences
faced by both the United States government and the people of Grenada. The Grenada Invasion also
Codenamed Operation Urgent Fury, was the U.S. decision to invade Grenada after the overthrow and

industry (Halliburton And Baker Hughes Reach Agreement to Combine in Stock and Cash Transaction

  • 2. Testing Based Fecal Occult Blood Test Sensitivity And... Guaiac based Fecal Occult Blood Test Sensitivity and Specificity Colon cancer The large intestines are a part of the digestive system (Colorectal cancer, 2015). The large intestines (large bowels) are made up of the colon and the rectum (What is colorectal cancer, 2016). The colon is five feet long muscular tube that makes up the majority of the large bowel (What is colorectal cancer, 2016). After food goes through the small intestines, of the digestive system, the colon absorbs the salt and water from the food that remains and the waste matter (feces) is the byproduct (What is colorectal cancer, 2016). The feces is then expelled from the body through the anus (What is colorectal cancer, 2016). When a cancer forms in the lining of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The localized stage is stage where cancer is only found in the part of the body where it originated from (Surveillance, epidemiology, and end results program, n.d.). In Virginia, 39% of colorectal cancers are detected at the localized stage (Cancer in Virginia, 2014). The 2012 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey reported that 69% of Virginia adults age 50 or older reported that they have had a colon cancer screening (Cancer in Virginia, 2014). Guaiac based Fecal Occult Blood Test The guaiac based Fecal Occult Blood Test (gFOBT) is a screening test for colorectal cancer (A guide to FOBT, n.d.). The guaiac based Fecal Occult Blood Test uses the chemical reagent guaiac to detect the presence of heme in stool (A guide to FOBT, n.d.). Colorectal neoplasms can cause blood (heme) in the stool because the blood vessels on the surface of colorectal cancer and/or colorectal polyps have fragile blood vessels that are easily damaged when feces pass through the large bowel (A guide to FOBT, n.d.). A small amount of blood from the fragile colorectal polyps and cancer vessels merge with the stool (A guide to FOBT, n.d.). The small amount of blood that is combined with the stool from the colorectal polyps and cancer vessels is not visibly noticeable in the stool (A guide to FOBT, n.d.). Consequently, Fecal Occult Blood Tests, such as gFOBT, can be used to detect the small amount of blood that can be found in the stool if a person has colorectal polyps or cancer (A ... • 4. My Childhood Memories Of Puerto Rico Puerto Rico held many of my most cherished childhood memories. The 3 years my family spent there were some of the best years of my life. I remember the day we arrived there and settled into a hotel to live temporarily. I wasn t sure why I couldn t understand my favorite cartoons anymore. A man with a daughter my age took me to school during the first week and I couldn t understand that man either. My parents explained to me that they spoke Spanish and soon enough in school, I was learning the language. We lived in a small house on a Navy base on the east side of the island in a city called Ceiba. All of the houses were nearly identical, all of them small, grey and made of concrete to protect against hurricanes. There was a park in my backyard that all the kids from the neighborhood would come to play at, but even better for me, there was a mysterious patch of woods behind that park. I would spend most of my days there walking along the trail and looking for interesting flowers, eat wild bananas straight from the tree, and sometimes finding iguana eggs. Nature played a big role in my life during those years. During the night, I would call asleep the sweet sounds of Coquí, a small tree frog that has a beautiful call, outside of my bedroom window. Sometimes, I was brave enough to attempt to catch a wild iguana. I would ready my pillow case and creep slowly toward the animal, only to get spotted by it and slapped harshly by its tail. I still hold a grudge against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Dante s Divine Comedy Summary Dante s Divine Comedy [1] Dante s Divine Comedy is considered by many the supreme literary work not only of medieval Christendom but of the Christian faith in general. Rivaled only by Milton s Paradise Lost. Never has a poet given a more compelling vision of Christian love than Dante in his Commedia (the Divina was added after Dante s death). This massive and intricate structure of almost fifteen thousand lines, or one hundred cantos, is divided equally into three large sections Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso that correspond to Dante s conception of the states of souls not only after death but in life as well. This forms what Dante himself called the sacred poem. A stirring drama of the human soul discovering the life of faith in a faithless world. Pilgrim and Poet [2] Using himself as a fictional character, Dante the poet relates what happens to Dante the pilgrim in the Comedy when, midway in the journey of our life, he awakes to find himself lost in the dark and savage wood, he has somehow left the straight way but is delivered from death when a figure of great importance in his life appears from the dead to intervene. Sent by Beatrice, who has descended from heaven into hell to call him to this task, the pagan poet Virgil comes to guide Dante back to the true path. The lost pilgrim must travel through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven, the three realms of the afterlife that reveal God s justice and his love. [3] As Dante travels he glimpses things ... Within a fraction of a second after the eyes, nose, ears, tongue or skin is stimulated, one knows the object is familiar and whether it is desirable or dangerous. How does such recognition, which psychologists call preattentive perception, happen so accurately and quickly, even when the stimuli are complex and the context in which they arise varies? PHASE PORTRAITS made from electroencephalograms (EEGs) generated by a computer model of the brain reflect the overall activity of the olfactory system at rest (above) and during perception of a familiar scent (right). Resemblance of the portraits to irregularly shaped, but still structured, coils of wire reveals that brain activity in both conditions is chaotic: complex but having some underlying order. The more circular shape of the right hand image, together with its greater segregation of colour, indicates that olfactory EEGs are more ordered more nearly periodic during perception than during rest. Also, how does the brain achieve what is called generalization over equivalent receptors? Because of turbulence in nasal airflow, only a few of the many receptors that are sensitive to an odorant are excited during a sniff, and the selection varies unpredictably from one sniff to the next. How does the brain recognize that signals from different collections of receptors all refer to the same stimulus? Our investigations begin to suggest answers to both problems. Many of our insights were derived from intensive studies of the olfactory bulb. Those experiments show clearly that every neuron in the bulb participates in generating each olfactory perception. In other words, the salient information about the stimulus is carried in some

The film relates to the book Unequal Childhoods: Class, Race, and Family Life, where Annette Lareau believes that a family s social class position predicts an individual school success and their ultimate life chances (Lareau, 2003, p. 29). Lareau (2003) highlights three reasons why social class matters for blue collar workers, one is the organization of daily life, the second is language use, and the third is interactions between families and institutions (p. 11). Working class or blue collar workers tend to communicate poorly compared to white collar workers. The central difference between blue collar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Gender Gap Within The Fields Of Science, Technology,... In LIBS 6137 I analyzed topics that affected today s teens. I found that a gender gap exists in the fields of science and technology. Females are underrepresented in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematical (STEM) related careers. According to research, girls should be encouraged to pursue their interests, find mentors, and collaborate with others in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In light of these findings, I presented a booktalk to a group of girls ages 15 19 on six books in which the main characters are strong women who have a special interest or talent in STEM related subjects. A handout was also created for each student and the host. The handout contained a description of the six books presented in the booktalk, similar books that may be of interest to students on the same topic, as well as websites, magazines, software, and videos. A total of eighteen resources were included that fit into the STEM topic presented to students. Digital evaluation forms were created for the students and the host of the booktalk to complete. My personal experience and data gathered from the evaluation forms were used to create a self evaluation narrative. In creating the artifact for the course, I.... (How did you do it? The main 10 firms operating in the automotive industry have great power in terms of reputation, finances, experience, technology and existing large product portfolios. • 34. Essay about Leslie Marmon Silko, “Lullaby” American Mosaic, July 2011 FOCUS: Leslie Marmon Silko, Lullaby Lullaby is a short story that first appeared in a book entitled Storyteller in 1981. This was a book written by Leslie M. Silko that uses short stories, memories, poetry, family pictures, and songs to present her message. The book is concerned, in general, with the tradition of story telling as it pertains to the Native American culture. Lullaby seems to be a story of tradition, change, death, loss and the tensions fostered as a result of them between the old couple in the story and the Anglo American authorities of the time. This is the first piece in history expressly designed not to be listened to. Apparently, Satie ran around among the audience at the first performance crying don t listen, don t listen , a difficult instruction to follow as the piece is quite interesting, and it is hard to ignore music being played right in front of you Satie s gesture fell flat, because the time wasn t yet ripe for it. • 36. Analysis Of Blood Meridian Or The Evening Redness Of The West Blood Meridian or the Evening Redness in the West, is a novel written by an author by the name of Cormac McCarthy. Cormac McCarthy wrote this to show a teenage runaway perspective of living on your own during the late 1800 s. Throughout this novel, McCarthy shows the reader the feeling of being in hell and describing a kid s journey through hell. This eye opening novel takes place in Texas, Mexico and the American Southwest, Circa. This historical fiction novel is surprisingly accurate when describing the events that occurred during the situations in the Southwestern U.S. and Mexico around the 1850 s. McCarthy s Blood Meridian contains a lot of violent and bloody events that build up to the subjugation of the Apaches, as well as other Native tribes, and the southwestern expansion of the United States of America. All these events are proven to be an accurate description of the way Indigenous people were treated and how they lived throughout this time. The story Blood Meridian or the Evening Redness of the West, explains a couple of the major frontier themes of a man s kinship for violence, religion, and power in the Western American History. These can be found as the theme depending on the way the reader interprets it. Typically, for a NPO what is also important is that who writes the mission statement. Considering only senior management or executives could be one answer, but I believe that since a NPO does most of its operational work largely through volunteers and less through employees, it becomes important to have representation of this constituency as well. The closer the mission statement is to what these volunteers considers is important for their end customers, the more likely is the high quality of the output and easier to continue recruiting volunteers. However, since many of the large NPO that we know and will discuss in this paper have been existing for decades, it also makes sense to evaluate mission statements in the context of emerging needs of the customers every 20 30 years. It was a rare tree then and you would spend hours walking around the woods just to find a few trees. As the demand grew more and more people are hunting for it and some of them do so with very little care for the future of the plant. We used to look for the stem scars on the top of the rhizome, the wrinkles on the top of the root as you called it, by digging around the trunk a little to see if the tree was mature enough to harvest. Many people now dig them up and then check to see if they are mature enough which kills the young plant. • 40. Embryonic Stem Cell Argumentative Essay Embryonic stem (ES) cells are stem cells that come from the undifferentiated inner mass cells of a human embryo. These embryonic stem cells are pluripotent, meaning that they are able to grow into all derivatives of the primary germ layers: ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm. These cells usually come from human embryos that are in the early stages of development called blastocyst. These blastocyst have cells that have the ability and potential to become some or many different cells of the body. This of course depending on whether the cell is pluripotent or totipotent. Totipotent cells have the ability to become all cell types. Embryonic stem cells have the ability to grow indefinitely and maintain their pluripotency which can be used to treat or cure multiple diseases but due to the nature of the cells origin the use of these cells is controversial. • 41. Theu.s. Invasion Of Grenada The U.S. invasion of Grenada was the first major U.S. military operation ever since the end of the Vietnam War. Undeniably, many have concluded that it may have in part been an assessment of the purported Vietnam syndrome, the alleged condition that makes it problematic for the American public to support U.S. military interference deprived of a just cause. As with Iraq, the early defences for the invasion proved to be either extremely debatable or obviously false, hitherto it still received bipartisan support in Congress and the approval of nearly two thirds of the American public. The invasion of Grenada by the U.S was very unusual compared to other 20th century wars. It was by far the easiest, shortest and most successful invasion for the United States during the 20th century period. The United States intervention in Grenada has been characterised by some as a rescue mission, by others an act of aggression. Therefore the purpose of this essay is to analyse and examine the reasons and causes behind the U.S. led invasion into Grenada during the latter part of 1983, as well as the consequences faced by both the United States government and the people of Grenada.
