Theme Of Hunger For Power In King Lear
The hunger for power is the root of the tragic outcome in King Lear. There are 3 characters that
embodied this theme exactly. King Lear with his loss of power made him lash out. The way Edmund
was treated made him want the power he could never have and deceive anyone to get it. Goneril s
hunger for power made her go against those she supposedly loved. These three characters aren t only
to blame for their own tragedies but the tragedies of every character.
At the beginning of the play King Lear has more power than anyone else, the feeling of power made
him think it was okay to ask his three daughters who loved him the most. When his youngest and
favourite daughter Cordelia did not give him the answer he wanted by saying, Unhappy that I am, I
cannot heave / My heart into my mouth/ I love your majesty / According to my bond, no more nor less
(King Lear 1.1.91 93). he started lashing out. Lear clearly values Goneril and Regan fawning over him
over Cordelia s sincere honesty. Out of pride and anger, Lear banishes Cordelia, as well as Kent for
defending her. Lear splits the kingdom in half to Goneril and Regan which leads to the deaths of many
people in the play. Throughout the play he becomes increasingly shocked when people do not obey
him the way they did before and the lack of respect he receives. With his loss of power Lear often
responds to these problems with anger saying things like My curses on her! (2.4.138). about his own
daughter. By the end of the play he recognizes that he takes responsibility for both his own problems
and for those of others. King Lear s actions were the first step to the plays tragic outcome.
Unlike King Lear, Edmund has no power at the beginning of the play. Being Gloucester s youngest
and illegitimate son he is not accepted by society or his father. Gloucester says in front of Edgar, His
breeding, sir, hath been at my charge / I have so often blushed to acknowledge him that now I am
brazed to it (1.1.8 9). Edgar, Edmund s older brother will inherit their father s wealth, land, and title.
Knowing this Edmund s hunger for power has probably grown through the years, giving him the
motivation to act the way he did. In 1.2 Edmund tells the audience that he s going to con

Reasons Why Urban And Rural Areas Are Interdependent On...
INTRODUCTION
Currently, most of the world s population is living in urban areas which have implications for land use
and land changes, use of natural resources, and the absorption of rural labour in urban areas. The rural
and urban interdependence means the flow of natural resources, agricultural commodity, money,
information and services between rural and urban areas. Moreover, the rural population is adopting the
urban style and behaviour or is becoming socially urbanized. According to Steinberg (2014) economic
development and natural resource use and as well as livelihoods bind urban and rural areas together.
These indicate that urban and rural areas have a symbiotic relationship, which makes them to depend
on each other. Thus, one area needs the other to function and develop. This essay will outline and
discuss the ways and reasons why urban and rural areas are interdependent on each other.
RURAL AND URBAN INTERACTION Source: Repp et al. (2012).

The Hunger Of The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead is a television show that leaves its audience terrified and apprehension at 9 pm on
Sunday nights. While members of the audiences are chewing on popcorn, The Walking Dead provides
a taste for human cannibalism. The walkers, Zombies , feed on human flesh and have no thought of
mortality. The atmosphere of The Walking Dead leaves all its characters with a dreary future until
Rick Grimes just waking up from a comma in a hospital shows up with bringing leadership into the
group with authority; and leaves the apocalyptic world less dull and grim also bringing hope for the
group surviving. Rick in the episode Guts just being introduced into the group has heard a commotion
of gunshots being fired from the top of the building. The whole group rushes upstairs to see Merle
Dixon firing away at zombies attracting more and more until T Dog confronts Merle. Merle terrifies
the whole group impelling T Dog to the concrete demanding leadership until Rick knocks Merle to
ground handcuffing him to the roof. This brings hope into the group in which the group without rick
the group was too weak to fend for their self and couldn t of stop Merle from killing T Dog and
hurting them. People started looking up to Rick more as a leader. Later on in that episode, Andrea was

Geographic dispersion amp; cultural diversity
As economic borders come down, cultural barriers will most likely go up and present new challenges
and opportunities for business.
As global restructuring takes place within the company, Koch leads a geographically dispersed project

APAC region for staffing 25 new middle management positions. The HR executive encounters

Electronic Waste Essay
Electronic waste comes in many different forms such as old computers, old cell phones, broken
household equipment and machinery, and much more. The main categories for electronic waste or e
waste are ICT and telecommunications equipment, office electronics, large and small household
appliances, consumer equipment, leisure equipment, lighting, medical equipment, automatic
dispensers, monitoring and control instruments, and batteries (ayubmacharia.com). From these
different types of e waste, there are many different toxic substances that can escape from them in
numerous different ways. The principal toxic substances that are contained within electronics include
zinc, nickel, lead, barium and chromium (allgreenrecyling.com). When these harmful chemicals are
sitting in landfills, they can be spread by leeching into our groundwater, or being released into our air
when warmed up. Many landfills exist in third world countries, meaning that billions of tonnes of
electronic waste each year are sent to these countries. The toxins contained within the e waste are then
released into the atmosphere, and can even end up in products being sent back to first world countries
to be merchandised. There are many adverse effects of the different toxic substances held within e
waste. Firstly, zinc is a very common substance within our environment, it is present within many
different foodstuffs as well as within drinking water. Zinc is not harmful in small concentration but

Illegal Immigrants Should Receive Health Care Essay
America needs comprehensive health care reform, and immigrants should be a part of the movement.
But many American citizens might ask that pertinent question: why should they cover the expense for
illegal immigrants to access health care? The answer is plain and simple: until congress passes
immigration laws that work, people are going to migrant here illegally. And to deny migrants access to
affordable health care, Americans are not only denying them their human right, they are also putting
individual and national health at risk. I believe that this country which has the medical advancements
and the facilities to ensure the health of its citizens should reach out to its non citizens, legal and
illegal, until it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study s results prove that if the federal law requiring employers to supply valid social security
numbers for their employees is passed thus ensuring the loss of Oregon s undocumented workers the
state could lose as much as $656 million in tax revenues resulting in 173,500 jobs losses (Navas).
While the numbers vary from state to state, this study suggests that immigrants might be contributing
more than people think. Illegal immigrants usually hold jobs that have bad conditions and worse pay.
Oftentimes, these jobs are found in sectors such as agriculture, construction, food handling and
manufacturing (Dwyer). Unfortunately for the illegal individuals who acquire these jobs, they have no
access to comprehensive health care, though their line of work tends to demand it. Although illegal
immigrants are consequently strapped for cash, many of them will not visit primary care physicians
for fear of being deported. This sets up a vicious cycle: individuals get sick yet ignore the signs. When
illnesses get remarkably worse and are too severe to treat at doctors offices, the individuals then go to
emergency rooms, where the cost is considerably greater. More often than not, the immigrants cannot
afford to pay their hospital bills. The cost is then covered by the medical institutions and tax payer
dollars (Wolf). While some argue that illegal migrants do not

An Analysis Of Pieces D Identites, And Aesthetics Of...
African cinema has certain aesthetics and politics that differ from cinema within the United States.
The politics and aesthetics of African film tends to reference themes of liberation, self identity and
allegories referring to colonialism. Three films that were viewed in class this year that display each of
these politics are Lumumba, Pieces D Identites, and Afrique, Je Te Plumerai. The first politic and
aesthetic African films tend to reference the most is liberation. A good example of a film that shows
this politic is the film Lumumba directed by Raoul Peck. This film was released in 2001 and is about
the life of the former prime minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Patrice Lumumba. The
film examines the liberation of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A good example of a film viewed during this semester with this aesthetic is Afrique, Je Te Plumerai.
This film was released in 1992 and directed by Jean Marie Teno. This film is about the history of the
west African country of Cameroon. This film starts with the first contact the area which would become
Cameroon had with European missionaries, to German and French colonialism, and finally to present
day and how the colonialism affected the people of Cameroon. This uses allegories for colonialism
through showing how the literature taught in schools and most of the books in the libraries are by
White authors and that they have very little literature by Black authors taught in schools or displayed
in libraries. Also the name of the film Afrique, Je Te Plumerai means Africa, I Pluck You . This is an
allegory of how colonialism has plucked all of the Cameroonian history from the people and has
replaced it with European history. This aesthetic would never be used in a Hollywood film due to the
fact that the United States is a country that goes around attacking and colonizing other countries for
their natural resources and to build an empire. Hollywood actually makes films with the complete
opposite of this aesthetic where the film its film is about how invading other countries and killing
people made U.S. soldiers sad. All in all African films have completely different politics and
aesthetics than films made in the U.S. The film Lumumba shows the politics of liberation. The film
Pieces D Identities shows the aesthetics of self identity. The film Afrique, Je Te Plumerai shows the
aesthetics of allegories of colonialism. In conclusion Hollywood would not dare to touch the politics
nor aesthetics of these films due to Hollywood s prejudices and other

Theme of Sacrifice in My Antonia and The Song of the Lark
A common trait for Willa Cather s characters is that they possess a certain talent or skill. This art
usually controls the lives of these characters. According to critic Maxell Geismar, Cather s heroines
who possess a skill often either do not marry or marry men whom they dominate; if they do marry the
marriage is without excitement because their passion is invested in their art. In a sense, Geismar
accuses Cather s heroines of sacrificing their marital roles for their art (172). However, marriage is not
the only aspect that raises the subject of sacrifice for Cather s protagonists there is also the issue of
family. This is because a woman artist, or any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet she is still accused of sacrificing too much for her art because of her sex.
A woman of the early nineteenth century is solely regarded as a daughter, wife or mother. These roles
are embedded into the lifestyles of all women, which present them with their identities. Therefore,
when a girl chooses to bestow priority to her art instead of her family, it is negatively considered a
sacrifice. This applies to Thea Kronberg and her relationship to her mother. Thea leaves Moonstone at
the age of seventeen to study in Chicago. After much struggle, Thea realizes that the only place that
she may gain success is in Germany. While in Germany Thea learns of her mother s illness, yet she
chooses not to leave the country and return to her hometown because it will postpone her singing
career. On the surface, this seems to be a cruel act of an egotistical woman, who would rather
accomplish her desire than be with her dying mother. This same mother encourages Thea to pursue
music: she provides a separate room for Thea to practice and study, allows her to associate with the
Mexicans for they have great singing talent and even grants permission for Thea to study with a
drunken musical genius. As a mother, Mrs. Kronberg provides much more for Thea than for any of her
other children, and yet this daughter chooses not to be with her during her last days.
However, there is

Difference Between Technical And Technical Writing
Writing is a medium of communication that is used to deliver the message to the readers. Writing can
be of different style. It can be in the form of technical or literary writing. Technical writers are
different from literary writers in terms of the use of language, structure, purpose, format, subject
matter and their intended audience.
Technical writing is a type of writing used by authors to convey technical information about a certain
subject. The audience of technical writing should have enough knowledge or understanding of the
topic, usually experts and professionals, because this type of writing uses jargons or technical
terminologies. Instruction manuals, user manuals and reports of analysis are some of the examples that

must follow the set standards. On the other hand, literary writing is distinguishable from other types of
writing because of its creative intent. This style of writing has the capacity to engage the readers in
their world of creative imagination. Literary writing appeals to emotions of the audience as writers

The Unjust Trade And Enslavement Of Human Beings
The unjustified trade and enslavement of human beings is known as human trafficking. Traffic victims
are most times compelled to sell their freedom, and are subject to coercive subjugation. Human
trafficking occurs throughout the United States and globally. Trafficking of person is driven by high
profits and low risk, as traffickers generate billions of dollars yearly, and a low chance of the activities
of traffickers been discovered by appropriate authorities. Trafficking of humans ultimately has grave
consequences on it victims. Human Trafficking is described as the recruitment, transportation, and
transfer of persons for exploitation purposes. This is usually carried out by the means of threat or use
of force and other forms of coercion, abduction, fraud, deception and abuse of persons in a vulnerable
position. Rarely, the giving and receiving of payments or benefits are given to persons to be exploited
in order to achieve their consent. In the United States, the attempts to commit, participate as an
accomplice, organize or direct others to commit trafficking is considered a criminal offence which
could earn a human trafficker between three years to life in prison based on individual state laws.
According to S.Bhat C. Joseph (2013), trafficking in humans can occur in various ways: Human
trafficking occurs in the form of sex trafficking, where women and children are reduced to sexual

They should just be put in prison for life without parole or any release. So why is the death penalty not
considered a cruel and unusual punishment? Most people say do the crime pay the time . But does that
really relate in this situation? Yes, most of the crimes committed by people on death row are extremely
terrible and horrific but does that mean they should have to die for it. Why do the judges and the jury
get to decide who lives and who dies from capital punishment. About half of our nation would agree
that they should be punished for it but does killing them really punish them. For all we know it could
just relive them of having to spend their lifetime in jail. Instead they get to take the easy way out and
die and not have to serve time for their crime. The other half, believe that we should keep the death

person they lost and healing for the families of those murdered. They also want to see the person who

Essay On School Uniforms
Should our school have school uniforms or not? The topic of school uniforms is an interesting topic
due to the many views that people have on them. This issue is important because it could prevent the
issue of bullying. It also could also make teens get to know each other based on character, rather than
appearance. Many teens are judged based on how they look or what they are wearing. The students are
the ones most affected by this issue. My claim is that school uniforms should be enforced because it
could prevent students from bullying. Having uniforms could also help teens stop judging and labeling
people by how they look or dress. People should get to know each other based on how they and who
they are as a person. If everyone wore the same thing there could be a less tendency to judge others
based on what they wear. Teens should learns that their individuality comes from within, not
necessarily from what they wear or how they look. Some reasons and evidence that supports my claim
are that studies have shown that most of the time the root of bullying is how another dresses. I have
noticed that teenagers (myself included) tend to judge someone based on how they choose to dress. If
someone does not dress up to standards, people tend to think they are weird or they should be avoided.
This shows that people tend to focus on how someone dresses more that how they act. One can dress
up to standards, but they could also be a really mean person. This could go the other way as

Compare And Contrast Utopian And Dystopia
: Utopian and Dystopian Literature
There are several definitions for utopia: some philosophers say that utopia is a perfect happy and ideal
place or island. Sir Thomas More (1478 1535) sees that utopia is the perfect attitudes and behavior of
people who seek happiness. He believes that utopian citizens are committed to the happiness of other
people as well as to their own pleasure; they are cheerful and always seek the public good. Lois Lowry
defines utopia as a place that there is no poverty, starvation, unemployment, lack of housing, or
prejudice; everything is good and there are no problems. Thomas Hurka sees that it is about what is
right and promotes certain objective human goods such as knowledge, achievement, and deep personal

The ending can be positive or negative and has a moral lesson. The hero can be a tragic hero and has a
tragic flaw. The ending is left for the reader to decide what is right and what is wrong. Usually the
hero wants to change something in his or her society and willing to affect a change. Masses are not

Rhetorical Devices In Julius Caesar s Funeral Speech
In the tragic play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, the ruler of Rome, Julius Caesar, is stabbed
to death by some of his so called friends. Brutus, one of Caesar s best friends, is approached by some
of the other senators to join the conspiracy to kill Caesar. Brutus weighs his options and decides to
join the conspirators for the good of Rome. At Caesars s funeral, Brutus gives a speech to convince the
citizens that the conspirators were right to kill Caesar. In contrast, Antony gives a speech to convince
the Romans that there was no real reason to kill Caesar. Both characters try to persuade the audience,
but they achieve different tones using literary and rhetorical devices. The tone of Brutus speech is
prideful, while the tone of Antony s speech is dramatic and inflammatory. Brutus uses a proud tone
conveyed by many literary devices to convince the audience that Caesar s murder was justified. Brutus
asks, Would you rather, Caesar were living, and you all die slaves, than that Caesar were dead, so you
all live freeman (Shakespeare 3.2.20 22). Brutus tries to persuade the audience that Caesar s murder
was justified through the use of a rhetorical question and a hyperbole. He tells the audience if Caesar
was not killed, Caesar could have become a dictator, and the people would have been oppressed. This
persuasive question gives the Roman citizens time to contemplate what Brutus is saying, and prompts
them to visualize the Wessinger 2 possibilities of being slaves. The extreme exaggeration of the word
slave gives off an intense tone, so the citizens do not speak up. Brutus repeats the phrase who is here
so followed by words like vile and rude multiple times (Shakespeare 3.2.25 28). He also repeats the
sentence, If any, speak, for him have I offended (Shakespeare 3.2.26 29). The repetition of phrases
throughout the speech illustrates the rhetorical device anaphora. When Brutus repeats these phrases,
he challenges the opinions of the citizens disagreeing with him. Knowing the negative connotations of
the words vile and rude, Brutus uses a manipulative tone to persuade the citizens that Caesar s murder
was justified.. As Caesar loved me, I weep for him; as he was

Racial And Ethnic Disparities Throughout Theu.s. Health Care
Racial and Ethnic Disparities in U.S. Health Care There continues to be racial and ethnic disparities in
the United States, and these problems need to be addressed since the rate of racial/ethnic populations
in the country are steadily rising. According to the 2001 United States Census, racial/ethnic minority
populations are growing at such a fast rate that by 2050 more than 50% of the population will belong
to a minority group (Weech Maldonado, Al Amin, Nishimi, Salam, 2011). Race and ethnicity should
not determine the levels of health care people receive. Certain races have genetic predispositions for
certain diseases and that fact cannot be changed. However, the differences among race for things such
as treatment, access to health care, and availability of medicine should not be as great as they are. One
of the most important disparities that exists between racial/ethnic groups is access to care, specifically
how access to care is limited due to treatment not being tailored to the needs of different minorities. A
key factor affecting access to care is economic inequality. Many racial/ethnic groups are considered to
be of low socioeconomic status in the United States. When one has to worry about food and housing,
health is not considered a priority. Lack of health insurance is a huge problem that many people face.
The inequalities in income means less money can be put towards doctor s visits and medications.

But the main theme in the book and the play is murder . The whole play revolves around this
mysterious murder, eventually we find out that the murder revolves around money. It shows us that
people will do anything and everything in the pursuit for money. The play has a universal theme,
meaning that everyone could relate to it. Not everyone has killed someone to get money, but everyone
can understand the lengths some people go to obtain what is not rightfully theirs, especially money.
The style of the murder mystery is cosy . This means that this style of murder is not as horrifying or
violent as some other murders. The violence is toned down and is not as terrifying because it is treated
in a humorous way. Cosy murder mysteries aren t filled with blood and gore so you could easily watch
or read this type of murder without getting completely scared. Agatha Christie used cosy murder
mysteries a lot in her books and it considered the cosy queen .
A Murder Is Announced also addresses the idea of class and status. This play is set in England in the
1950s and class and social structure defined society in that time.

Poe s Perception Of Himself In The Tell Tale Heart
In a work of literature the perception, or opinion on something, will vary from the reader to the
narrator. The play The Tell Tale Heart , by Edgar Allen Poe, the narrator kills a man because of his
vulture like eye. The narrator views himself as a sane and smart individual because of his actions. The
narrator s perception of himself differs quite a lot from those of the reader as they interpret his actions
differently, leading them to think he is mentally deranged. Poe s writing style contributes to these
perceptions of the narrator. The speaker of the text thinks of himself as a sane and smart individual.
How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily how calmly I can tell you the whole story
(Poe 1). This example supports the speaker s view of himself as it shows he does not think he s mad.

Anheuser-Busch Merger
Beer Mergers Go Global The competitive market of producing beer has reached a new level of global
monopoly. Anheuser Busch is no longer an American owned beer producer since InBev transnational
bought the American company in 2008 (Larson, 2017). But Anheuser Busch wasn t the only brew
company to merger across borders. In 2007, Miller and Coors merged under South African Breweries,
making beer loving Americans subject to an oligopoly, running the beer industry further and further
away from American soil. Additionally, according to SABMiller, in 2012 only four firms accounted
for approximately half of the global sales of beer, and 70% of revenues (SABMiller, 2012). The beer

Organizational Resilience Essay
Background
Modern day organizations have to constantly change to meet the demands of customers. Workers have
to change with the organizations to be able to perform new functions and complete new sophisticated
tasks.
Not only the type of the work employees are required to do changes, place, method, and environment
of the work is also subject to transformation. With high turnover being common characteristic among
modern organizations, people have to work in teams each time composed of different people.
Mallak (1998) noticed that employees working in the sales and supplies department are even greater

Being resilient means being able to act adequately in demanding situations, avoid unwanted
developments during the course of working day, and make the most of opportunities in spite of all the
turmoil associated with the organizational change.
Organizations have to design and implement effective programs of resilience to ensure their own
survival (Mallak, 1998). Resilient organizations are the organizations that maintain their profitability
even when going through major transformation. This is due to the fact that its employees do not need
much time to adapt to new realities or to recover from stress associated with the change.
Defining Resilience
Resilience translates from Latin as to leap back and can be defined as the ability to recover from or
easily adjust to misfortune or change (Russell Consulting, Inc., 2007).
Lee (2008) writes that resilience refers to a person s capacity to handle difficulties, demands, and high
pressure without becoming stressed.
Lee divides the notion of resilience into four separate facets :
1. The ability to not sweat the small stuff Resilient workers maintain their good cheer despite all the
small frustrations accompanying the employees through their working day (Lee, 2008).
2. Ability to perform under high pressure Resilient workers cannot be overwhelmed by minor
difficulties at work place, neither pressure exercised upon them can

David Hume s Argument Against Belief in the Existence of...
David Hume was a British empiricist, meaning he believed all knowledge comes through the senses.
He argued against the existence of innate ideas, stating that humans have knowledge only of things
which they directly experience. These claims have a major impact on his argument against the
existence of miracles, and in this essay I will explain and critically evaluate this argument.
In his discussion Of Miracles in Section X of An Enquiry concerning Human Understanding, Hume
defines a miracle as a violation of the laws of nature and as a firm and unalterable experience has
established these laws 1. Basically a miracle is something that happens which is contrary to what
would happen given the structure of the universe. He also states ... Show more content on

In other words he is saying that no matter how good or reliable a testimony may be, it can never as it
were on the basis of experience be justified to accept that testimony over and against what stands as
testimony against the miracle happening. The testimony happens to be the laws of nature themselves.
In this sense it is clear that Hume is giving us a priori argument in Part 1 in that he is saying that
miracles are contrary to reason. However I think it would be easier to accept this view if Hume had
not previously discussed his Induction theory. In regard that he thought that for example that just
because the sun has risen every day so far, it does not necessarily follow that the sun will rise
tomorrow, we have no rational basis in believing it will. However in regard to miracles he tells us to
base our decisions on past experiences, if it is unlikely it is less likely to be true. So in that sense we
should also be able to say that based on our past experiences the sun will definitely rise tomorrow?
Also if the sun was not to rise, surely that would be a miracle in the sense that it would be a violation
of the laws of nature? And what is exactly a violation of natural laws? Dorothy Coleman points out
past experience shows that what are at one time considered violations of natural laws are frequently

Analysis Of Margaret Mead s Coming Of Age In Samoa
On August 31, 1925, Margaret Mead arrived in Pago Pago, American Samoa to conduct ethnographic
research on a particular problem. Prior to her arrival in American Samoa, Mead with the guidance of
her mentor Franz Boas, decided to investigate the lives of adolescent girls in Samoa as a focal point of
her research. Mead chose this subject matter due to her speculation that the period adolescence within
the United States during the 1920s was filled with stress and a period of turbulence; therefore, Mead
hypothesized that stress felt by American youth resulted from the American cultural environment.
Through her investigation adolescent girls, Mead aimed to test the validity of the claims of adolescent
behavior being a physiological determinant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coming of Age in Samoa received support from scholars within the field; however, dissonant voices
emerged as well. Most notably the dissident opinion of New Zealand anthropologist, Derek Freeman
generated the most famous controversial debate among the sciences: The Mead Freeman debate. Thus,
in this research paper I will focus on Margaret Mead s prominent work Coming of Age in Samoa: A
Psychological Study of Primitive Youth for Western Civilisation, while juxtaposing the work of Derek
Freeman Margaret Mead and Samoa: The Making and Unmasking of an Anthropological Myth. By

requiring more quality, innovation, and choice, and at the same time wanting to spend less money and

These trucks compete for roughly 300,000 parking spots located throughout the country. While
parked, especially in locations of extreme hot or cold, these trucks are typically found idling while the
driver is resting. In addition to being a home away from home for the truck drivers, they idle for a
variety of reasons. These include keeping the fuel and engine warm, for the driver s resting comfort, to
mask out other noises, and for safety (Keller). Unfortunately, while they are idling, the engine is
consuming diesel fuel at a time when oil prices are at their highest. It has been calculated that every
hour a truck idles unnecessarily is equivalent to 8 10 miles of on road driving (Keller). Although it is
necessary for the drivers to idle, it has been a major concern in terms of wasted fuel within the
trucking industry, costing them 3 billion gallons of fuel every year.
Several different technologies have been introduced to combat the wasted fuel and reduce or eliminate
truck idling times. One such advancement is an electrified parking space (EPS) for the drivers. The
electrified parking space allows the driver a parking spot (for rest, sleep, etc.) and an oversized power
cord that allows the truck to plug into electric grids to power their cabins. This enables a clean energy
source from the power grid, and reduces the driver s need to

The Importance Of Commercial Buildings In The Ottoman Empire
Secondly, commercial buildings were so popular in Cairo because it was already a major trading point
for the Ottoman Empire. The different type of commercial buildings were wikalas, khans, qaisariyas,
suqs, and funduqs. Ismail explains that these type of buildings existed since the Mameluke Empire
period, but they were kept being built during the Ottoman Empire, with some minor changes.
The wikalas were buildings located within the city walls and had a design that had shops on the
ground floor that faced onto courtyards and a rab system (living quarters) on the upper floors. Some of
the shops from the ground level had special designs in their facades that allowed the merchants to
display the imported goods that they had for sale. The building had only one entrance per each facade,
and each of them led to the open central courtyard that aside from shops, had storerooms for the
merchant s goods. To get access to the upper floors, people had to use staircases that were usually
placed in a corner of the facades (Ismail 2005).
The khans and funduqs were buildings that had combined functions of hostel and trading centre and
were used mostly by traveling merchants and visitors to the city. These buildings were built mostly
near the trading routes outside the city, and they required towers for extra protection, however, some
of them were located inside the city and did not required to be fortified because of it. A major
difference is that these buildings did not had shops in

  • 2. Theme Of Hunger For Power In King Lear The hunger for power is the root of the tragic outcome in King Lear. There are 3 characters that embodied this theme exactly. King Lear with his loss of power made him lash out. The way Edmund was treated made him want the power he could never have and deceive anyone to get it. Goneril s hunger for power made her go against those she supposedly loved. These three characters aren t only to blame for their own tragedies but the tragedies of every character. At the beginning of the play King Lear has more power than anyone else, the feeling of power made him think it was okay to ask his three daughters who loved him the most. When his youngest and favourite daughter Cordelia did not give him the answer he wanted by saying, Unhappy that I am, I cannot heave / My heart into my mouth/ I love your majesty / According to my bond, no more nor less (King Lear 1.1.91 93). he started lashing out. Lear clearly values Goneril and Regan fawning over him over Cordelia s sincere honesty. Out of pride and anger, Lear banishes Cordelia, as well as Kent for defending her. Lear splits the kingdom in half to Goneril and Regan which leads to the deaths of many people in the play. Throughout the play he becomes increasingly shocked when people do not obey him the way they did before and the lack of respect he receives. With his loss of power Lear often responds to these problems with anger saying things like My curses on her! (2.4.138). about his own daughter. By the end of the play he recognizes that he takes responsibility for both his own problems and for those of others. King Lear s actions were the first step to the plays tragic outcome. Unlike King Lear, Edmund has no power at the beginning of the play. Being Gloucester s youngest and illegitimate son he is not accepted by society or his father. Gloucester says in front of Edgar, His breeding, sir, hath been at my charge / I have so often blushed to acknowledge him that now I am brazed to it (1.1.8 9). Edgar, Edmund s older brother will inherit their father s wealth, land, and title. Knowing this Edmund s hunger for power has probably grown through the years, giving him the motivation to act the way he did. In 1.2 Edmund tells the audience that he s going to con ... INTRODUCTION Currently, most of the world s population is living in urban areas which have implications for land use and land changes, use of natural resources, and the absorption of rural labour in urban areas. The rural and urban interdependence means the flow of natural resources, agricultural commodity, money, information and services between rural and urban areas. Moreover, the rural population is adopting the urban style and behaviour or is becoming socially urbanized. According to Steinberg (2014) economic development and natural resource use and as well as livelihoods bind urban and rural areas together. These indicate that urban and rural areas have a symbiotic relationship, which makes them to depend on each other. Thus, one area needs the other to function and develop. This essay will outline and discuss the ways and reasons why urban and rural areas are interdependent on each other. RURAL AND URBAN INTERACTION Source: Repp et al. (2012). The Breakdown of Jollibee Although Tony Kitchner was hired to bring more structure to the International Division, he failed to learn about the people s culture and values from Domestic department or build the rapport needed to push forward the division s initiatives. . Kitchner should have recognized that the hostility coming from Domestic was underscored by a fear that their division would be eclipsed by International. Rather than cultivate this fear, Kitchner should have made it explicit that the International Division s success would have reflected on the company as a whole. But many American citizens might ask that pertinent question: why should they cover the expense for illegal immigrants to access health care? The answer is plain and simple: until congress passes immigration laws that work, people are going to migrant here illegally. And to deny migrants access to affordable health care, Americans are not only denying them their human right, they are also putting individual and national health at risk. The study s results prove that if the federal law requiring employers to supply valid social security numbers for their employees is passed thus ensuring the loss of Oregon s undocumented workers the state could lose as much as $656 million in tax revenues resulting in 173,500 jobs losses (Navas). While the numbers vary from state to state, this study suggests that immigrants might be contributing more than people think. Illegal immigrants usually hold jobs that have bad conditions and worse pay. Oftentimes, these jobs are found in sectors such as agriculture, construction, food handling and manufacturing (Dwyer). Unfortunately for the illegal individuals who acquire these jobs, they have no access to comprehensive health care, though their line of work tends to demand it. Although illegal immigrants are consequently strapped for cash, many of them will not visit primary care physicians for fear of being deported. This sets up a vicious cycle: individuals get sick yet ignore the signs. When illnesses get remarkably worse and are too severe to treat at doctors offices, the individuals then go to emergency rooms, where the cost is considerably greater. More often than not, the immigrants cannot afford to pay their hospital bills. The cost is then covered by the medical institutions and tax payer dollars (Wolf). This film starts with the first contact the area which would become Cameroon had with European missionaries, to German and French colonialism, and finally to present day and how the colonialism affected the people of Cameroon. This uses allegories for colonialism through showing how the literature taught in schools and most of the books in the libraries are by White authors and that they have very little literature by Black authors taught in schools or displayed in libraries. Also the name of the film Afrique, Je Te Plumerai means Africa, I Pluck You . This is an allegory of how colonialism has plucked all of the Cameroonian history from the people and has replaced it with European history. This aesthetic would never be used in a Hollywood film due to the fact that the United States is a country that goes around attacking and colonizing other countries for their natural resources and to build an empire. Hollywood actually makes films with the complete opposite of this aesthetic where the film its film is about how invading other countries and killing people made U.S. soldiers sad. All in all African films have completely different politics and aesthetics than films made in the U.S. The film Lumumba shows the politics of liberation. Theme of Sacrifice in My Antonia and The Song of the Lark A common trait for Willa Cather s characters is that they possess a certain talent or skill. This art usually controls the lives of these characters. According to critic Maxell Geismar, Cather s heroines who possess a skill often either do not marry or marry men whom they dominate; if they do marry the marriage is without excitement because their passion is invested in their art. In a sense, Geismar accuses Cather s heroines of sacrificing their marital roles for their art (172). A woman of the early nineteenth century is solely regarded as a daughter, wife or mother. These roles are embedded into the lifestyles of all women, which present them with their identities. Therefore, when a girl chooses to bestow priority to her art instead of her family, it is negatively considered a sacrifice. This applies to Thea Kronberg and her relationship to her mother. Thea leaves Moonstone at the age of seventeen to study in Chicago. After much struggle, Thea realizes that the only place that she may gain success is in Germany. While in Germany Thea learns of her mother s illness, yet she chooses not to leave the country and return to her hometown because it will postpone her singing career. On the surface, this seems to be a cruel act of an egotistical woman, who would rather accomplish her desire than be with her dying mother. This same mother encourages Thea to pursue music: she provides a separate room for Thea to practice and study, allows her to associate with the Mexicans for they have great singing talent and even grants permission for Thea to study with a drunken musical genius. As a mother, Mrs. Kronberg provides much more for Thea than for any of her other children, and yet this daughter chooses not to be with her during her last days. However, there is ... This issue is important because it could prevent the issue of bullying. It also could also make teens get to know each other based on character, rather than appearance. Many teens are judged based on how they look or what they are wearing. The students are the ones most affected by this issue. My claim is that school uniforms should be enforced because it could prevent students from bullying. Having uniforms could also help teens stop judging and labeling people by how they look or dress. People should get to know each other based on how they and who they are as a person. If everyone wore the same thing there could be a less tendency to judge others based on what they wear. Teens should learns that their individuality comes from within, not necessarily from what they wear or how they look. Some reasons and evidence that supports my claim are that studies have shown that most of the time the root of bullying is how another dresses. I have noticed that teenagers (myself included) tend to judge someone based on how they choose to dress. If someone does not dress up to standards, people tend to think they are weird or they should be avoided. This shows that people tend to focus on how someone dresses more that how they act. • 22. Rhetorical Devices In Julius Caesar s Funeral Speech In the tragic play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, the ruler of Rome, Julius Caesar, is stabbed to death by some of his so called friends. Brutus, one of Caesar s best friends, is approached by some of the other senators to join the conspiracy to kill Caesar. Brutus weighs his options and decides to join the conspirators for the good of Rome. At Caesars s funeral, Brutus gives a speech to convince the citizens that the conspirators were right to kill Caesar. In contrast, Antony gives a speech to convince the Romans that there was no real reason to kill Caesar. Both characters try to persuade the audience, but they achieve different tones using literary and rhetorical devices. The tone of Brutus speech is prideful, while the tone of Antony s speech is dramatic and inflammatory. Brutus uses a proud tone conveyed by many literary devices to convince the audience that Caesar s murder was justified. Brutus asks, Would you rather, Caesar were living, and you all die slaves, than that Caesar were dead, so you all live freeman (Shakespeare 3.2.20 22). Brutus tries to persuade the audience that Caesar s murder was justified through the use of a rhetorical question and a hyperbole. He tells the audience if Caesar was not killed, Caesar could have become a dictator, and the people would have been oppressed. This persuasive question gives the Roman citizens time to contemplate what Brutus is saying, and prompts them to visualize the Wessinger 2 possibilities of being slaves. The extreme exaggeration of the word slave gives off an intense tone, so the citizens do not speak up. Brutus repeats the phrase who is here so followed by words like vile and rude multiple times (Shakespeare 3.2.25 28). He also repeats the sentence, If any, speak, for him have I offended (Shakespeare 3.2.26 29). The repetition of phrases throughout the speech illustrates the rhetorical device anaphora. When Brutus repeats these phrases, he challenges the opinions of the citizens disagreeing with him. • 25. Racial And Ethnic Disparities Throughout Theu.s. Health Care Racial and Ethnic Disparities in U.S. Health Care There continues to be racial and ethnic disparities in the United States, and these problems need to be addressed since the rate of racial/ethnic populations in the country are steadily rising. According to the 2001 United States Census, racial/ethnic minority populations are growing at such a fast rate that by 2050 more than 50% of the population will belong to a minority group (Weech Maldonado, Al Amin, Nishimi, Salam, 2011). Race and ethnicity should not determine the levels of health care people receive. Certain races have genetic predispositions for certain diseases and that fact cannot be changed. However, the differences among race for things such as treatment, access to health care, and availability of medicine should not be as great as they are. One of the most important disparities that exists between racial/ethnic groups is access to care, specifically how access to care is limited due to treatment not being tailored to the needs of different minorities. A key factor affecting access to care is economic inequality. Many racial/ethnic groups are considered to be of low socioeconomic status in the United States. When one has to worry about food and housing, health is not considered a priority. Lack of health insurance is a huge problem that many people face. Not everyone has killed someone to get money, but everyone can understand the lengths some people go to obtain what is not rightfully theirs, especially money. The style of the murder mystery is cosy . This means that this style of murder is not as horrifying or violent as some other murders. The violence is toned down and is not as terrifying because it is treated in a humorous way. Cosy murder mysteries aren t filled with blood and gore so you could easily watch or read this type of murder without getting completely scared. Agatha Christie used cosy murder mysteries a lot in her books and it considered the cosy queen . A Murder Is Announced also addresses the idea of class and status. This play is set in England in the 1950s and class and social structure defined society in that time. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Poe s Perception Of Himself In The Tell Tale Heart In a work of literature the perception, or opinion on something, will vary from the reader to the narrator. The play The Tell Tale Heart , by Edgar Allen Poe, the narrator kills a man because of his vulture like eye. The narrator views himself as a sane and smart individual because of his actions. The narrator s perception of himself differs quite a lot from those of the reader as they interpret his actions differently, leading them to think he is mentally deranged. Poe s writing style contributes to these perceptions of the narrator. The speaker of the text thinks of himself as a sane and smart individual. How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily how calmly I can tell you the whole story (Poe 1). This example supports the speaker s view of himself as it shows he does not think he s mad. He believes a mad person could not describe or tell the story of what he did healthily and calmly , but because he can he must be sane. But you should have seen me. Anheuser Busch is no longer an American owned beer producer since InBev transnational bought the American company in 2008 (Larson, 2017). But Anheuser Busch wasn t the only brew company to merger across borders. In 2007, Miller and Coors merged under South African Breweries, making beer loving Americans subject to an oligopoly, running the beer industry further and further away from American soil. Additionally, according to SABMiller, in 2012 only four firms accounted for approximately half of the global sales of beer, and 70% of revenues (SABMiller, 2012). Being resilient means being able to act adequately in demanding situations, avoid unwanted developments during the course of working day, and make the most of opportunities in spite of all the turmoil associated with the organizational change. Organizations have to design and implement effective programs of resilience to ensure their own survival (Mallak, 1998). Resilient organizations are the organizations that maintain their profitability even when going through major transformation. This is due to the fact that its employees do not need much time to adapt to new realities or to recover from stress associated with the change. Defining Resilience Resilience translates from Latin as to leap back and can be defined as the ability to recover from or easily adjust to misfortune or change (Russell Consulting, Inc., 2007). Lee (2008) writes that resilience refers to a person s capacity to handle difficulties, demands, and high pressure without becoming stressed. Lee divides the notion of resilience into four separate facets : 1. The ability to not sweat the small stuff Resilient workers maintain their good cheer despite all the small frustrations accompanying the employees through their working day (Lee, 2008). 2. • 33. David Hume s Argument Against Belief in the Existence of... David Hume was a British empiricist, meaning he believed all knowledge comes through the senses. He argued against the existence of innate ideas, stating that humans have knowledge only of things which they directly experience. These claims have a major impact on his argument against the existence of miracles, and in this essay I will explain and critically evaluate this argument. In his discussion Of Miracles in Section X of An Enquiry concerning Human Understanding, Hume defines a miracle as a violation of the laws of nature and as a firm and unalterable experience has established these laws 1. Basically a miracle is something that happens which is contrary to what would happen given the structure of the universe. He also states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words he is saying that no matter how good or reliable a testimony may be, it can never as it were on the basis of experience be justified to accept that testimony over and against what stands as testimony against the miracle happening. The testimony happens to be the laws of nature themselves. In this sense it is clear that Hume is giving us a priori argument in Part 1 in that he is saying that miracles are contrary to reason. However I think it would be easier to accept this view if Hume had not previously discussed his Induction theory. In regard that he thought that for example that just because the sun has risen every day so far, it does not necessarily follow that the sun will rise tomorrow, we have no rational basis in believing it will. However in regard to miracles he tells us to base our decisions on past experiences, if it is unlikely it is less likely to be true. So in that sense we should also be able to say that based on our past experiences the sun will definitely rise tomorrow? Also if the sun was not to rise, surely that would be a miracle in the sense that it would be a violation of the laws of nature? And what is exactly a violation of natural laws? Dorothy Coleman points out past experience shows that what are at one time considered violations of natural laws are frequently found ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Prior to her arrival in American Samoa, Mead with the guidance of her mentor Franz Boas, decided to investigate the lives of adolescent girls in Samoa as a focal point of her research. Mead chose this subject matter due to her speculation that the period adolescence within the United States during the 1920s was filled with stress and a period of turbulence; therefore, Mead hypothesized that stress felt by American youth resulted from the American cultural environment. Through her investigation adolescent girls, Mead aimed to test the validity of the claims of adolescent behavior being a physiological determinant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These trucks compete for roughly 300,000 parking spots located throughout the country. While parked, especially in locations of extreme hot or cold, these trucks are typically found idling while the driver is resting. In addition to being a home away from home for the truck drivers, they idle for a variety of reasons. These include keeping the fuel and engine warm, for the driver s resting comfort, to mask out other noises, and for safety (Keller). Unfortunately, while they are idling, the engine is consuming diesel fuel at a time when oil prices are at their highest. It has been calculated that every hour a truck idles unnecessarily is equivalent to 8 10 miles of on road driving (Keller). Although it is necessary for the drivers to idle, it has been a major concern in terms of wasted fuel within the trucking industry, costing them 3 billion gallons of fuel every year. Several different technologies have been introduced to combat the wasted fuel and reduce or eliminate truck idling times. One such advancement is an electrified parking space (EPS) for the drivers. The electrified parking space allows the driver a parking spot (for rest, sleep, etc.) and an oversized power cord that allows the truck to plug into electric grids to power their cabins. This enables a clean energy source from the power grid, and reduces the driver s need to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Importance Of Commercial Buildings In The Ottoman Empire Secondly, commercial buildings were so popular in Cairo because it was already a major trading point for the Ottoman Empire. The different type of commercial buildings were wikalas, khans, qaisariyas, suqs, and funduqs. Ismail explains that these type of buildings existed since the Mameluke Empire period, but they were kept being built during the Ottoman Empire, with some minor changes. The wikalas were buildings located within the city walls and had a design that had shops on the ground floor that faced onto courtyards and a rab system (living quarters) on the upper floors. Some of the shops from the ground level had special designs in their facades that allowed the merchants to display the imported goods that they had for sale. The building had only one entrance per each facade, and each of them led to the open central courtyard that aside from shops, had storerooms for the merchant s goods. To get access to the upper floors, people had to use staircases that were usually placed in a corner of the facades (Ismail 2005). The khans and funduqs were buildings that had combined functions of hostel and trading centre and were used mostly by traveling merchants and visitors to the city. These buildings were built mostly near the trading routes outside the city, and they required towers for extra protection, however, some of them were located inside the city and did not required to be fortified because of it. A major difference is that these buildings did not had shops in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
