I Hear America Singing Comparison
Nationalism is defined as a patriotic feeling, principle, or effort. In many countries, common
workers display a sense of pride in their country through their manual labor. In Chicago by Carl
Sandburg and I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman, parallel structure is employed to
establish the connection between grit and spirit in order to convey a tone of pride within the
American worker. Initially, both poems employ parallel structure to culminate a nationalistic
spirit and grit within the American worker. For example, in Chicago the city under the terrible
burden of destiny laughs as a young man laughs ; similarly in I Hear America Singing the
boatman sings, what belongs to him on his boat . Here, displays of undying strength while facing
an obstacle as well as displays of personalization during work create a gritty nature within the
individual laborer. Moreover, in Chicago a worker is described with dust all over his mouth albeit
still laughing with white teeth and in I Hear America Singing each worker... Show more content on

For example, in Chicago , the narrator describes the city as wicked , crooked , and brutal while
in I Hear America Singing young fellows are described as robust and friendly . By utilizing
contradicting terminology between poems to describe the city of Chicago versus American
workers, a false front of contentment is exposed. Moreover, in the poem Chicago , the city is
described as stormy, husky, and brawling while in I Hear America Singing workers sing strong
melodious songs . Here, by utilizing words with contrasting connotations, pride in one s own
nationalistic union derives from an individual s ability to work past obstacles. Furthermore,
Whitman and Sandburg use diction to create a tone of pride within the idea of nationalism that
curates a façade in order to disguise the reality in upholding

Environmental School of Thought Essay
According to Mintzberg, the environmental school of thought is a strategy dealing with the forces
outside the organization. Unlike the other schools in his book, Strategy Safari, the environment
plays a central role in the strategy formation process alongside leadership and the organization
where the organization becomes subordinate to the external environment. The environmental school
assumptions are that during the formative period of the organization the company shapes itself in
response to the environment, but after that period is increasingly unable to respond to the
environment. Moreover, the organization long term survival depends on the early choices made
during its formative period. Over time, Mintzberg states, leadership becomes... Show more content

Hostility is influenced by competition, by the organization s relationships with unions, government,
and other outside groups as well as by the availability of resources to it. The contingency theory
figured out a set of responses to the four dimensions mostly about structure and later about strategy.
The second view in the environmental school of thought is the Population Ecology view.
Followers of this view believe that the basic structure and character of an organization is fixed
shortly after its creation where early action of managers in areas of investments, equipment, and
personnel create passivity for future actions. The theory is viewing the organizations in terms of
their collective behavior but the organizations individual survival depends on their ability to
acquire an adequate supply and resources. According to the population ecology view, each
environment has a finite amount of resources which they refers to as fixed carrying capacity where
in a rapidly growing new industry, carrying capacity might support most existing organizations but
already in the maturity stage, the carrying capacity may decline and the demand for products will
decreases. In such cases, organizations should hold resources in reserve for future emergencies.
The third view dealing with the environment is the institutional view which refers to the pressures
an organization faces in its

No one can question that firearms are a expansive portion of American culture. In any case, people

Great Barrier Reef, Australia
Easily the most well known natural World Heritage Site in Australia, the Great Barrier Reef,
which is the world s most extensive coral reef ecosystem, was inscribed with UNESCO in 1981.
The site covers approximately 348,000 square kilometers and includes a wide range of depths,
comprising of shallow inshore, mid shelf, and even extending into oceanic waters 2,000 meters
deep. The Great Barrier Reef is actually made up of around 2,500 individual reefs, encompassing
some 400 different species of coral, which makes for some of the most remarkable underwater
scenery in the world. The massive size and varying depths allows for a wide array of ecological
habitats and species, making the reef one of the most complex ecosystems on the planet. ... Show

also contains a significant number of threatened species. Despite its designation, however, the site
is threated by a variety of pressures, both natural and man made. Starfish outbreaks, cyclones, and
other extreme weather events are all counted, as well as human tourism and coastal developments.
Thankfully, due to the sites extensive size and varying ecosystems, the reef and its inhabitants

Should Politicians Continue To Blame High Gas Prices
The government often times will play the blame game when things are not going according to
plan, or more importantly, according to the government s plan. Since the summer of 2008 when
gas prices reaches a record high or $4.12 a gallon the we ve loved to blame the oil companies and
the government for the increasing prices of gasoline. Who is responsible for high gas prices? Oil
production dropped during the Bush administration but has risen by about 20% during Obama s
presidency, making it clear that domestic oil production has little effect of the priceof gasoline. Why
then to politicians continue to blame high gasoline prices on the oil companies? Congress has
restricted the building of oil refineries and the drilling of oil in Alaska offshore for over 15 years.
These restrictions have greatly reduced the supply of domestic oil. The... Show more content on

If profit is taken away the future for innovation and efficiency is also eliminated. A reduction in
the amount of gasoline companies supply, also meaning a shortage on consumers could be
cause by a windfall profit tax. A windfall tax is a tax levied by governments again certain
industries when economic conditions allow those industries to experience above average profits.
(Tax, n.d.) These type taxes are primarily imposed on companies in the targeted business that
have advanced the most from economic windfall, or product based businesses. While most
people think there are no benefits from imposing any taxes, there are benefits of a windfall tax,
including: proceeds being precisely used by governments to boost funding for social programs,
and many believe profits can be reinvested and used to stimulate innovation that will advance
society as a full. Taking away an oil company s enthusiasm to make large profits, will also take

Introduction
The end of the space shuttle program has brought a great loss to NASA and the employee at the
Kennedy Space Center. This loss not only effect the direct employees but have also effect the
contractors at Alliant Techsystem, whom was task with much of the construction of the Ares rocket
that would catapult the Orion capsule and known as one of the most established supplier for NASA.
As the space shuttle program come to an end, ATK started collecting data from employee s
departure (turnover) to create a model that calculate the possibility of the turnover rate. As indicated

Flight Risk Models
The flight risk model is used to predict a turnover rate and prevent an employee from leaving before
it happens. These models takes to account the employee s age and tenure, marital status, the
criticality of his or her job role, linkages to other flight risk employees, changes in benefit related
issues, and seasonality. (Organizational Behavior, 2013, p. 62) As ATK have used several flight risk
models to stop the most serious form of physical withdrawal, quitting, the one factor that I feel is
most important is being able to prepare for a life situation that can cause a turnover to happen. For
example, boosting the employee s commitment can prevent quitting from happening. This can be
done by creating affective commitment, continuance commitment, normative commitment and
focus of commitment which gives reasons for employees to stay within the company. I feel that the
least important is the workforce metrics because this doesn t really contribute to the employees
within the organizations. As an employee, acknowledgement and rewards are important factors to
keep an employee within the company. Turnover rate can be essentially high if management fails to
recognize this.
Manage issues with turn over
Turnover for NASA or ATK employees are well aware from the ending of the space shuttle program
. This gives management time to look into prevention, as well as preparing for turnover. Data gather

Case of Perpetual Mercy Hospital
Case of Perpetual Mercy Hospital
Problem
The broad focus of this case is one of strategy planning. Perpetual Mercy Hospital has to determine
the best course of action to help the Downtown Health Clinic achieve its stated objectives of
expanding the hospital s referral base, increasing referrals of privately insured patients, establishing
a liaison with the business community, and becoming self supporting within three years of its
opening. This last objective is jeopardized by the possibility of a competing clinic opening 5 blocks
north of the DHC s location. The underlying problem is that the DHC may not be self sufficient
within the projected timeframe, regardless of competition.

in an overlapping area covering 3,424 workers. Medcenter is fairly successful in its current

Essay On Exotic Animals
People Shouldn t Be Able To Have Exotic Animals
There are many exotic animals all over the world that live in the wild. There are many species
and some are extinct. Exotic animals are very expensive that require more than what people
realize. These animals belong in their natural habitats. It is wrong and cruel for the animals that
have to live in captivity when they are meant to live in the wild. Taking exotic animals out of the
wild disrupts the natural food chain and negatively affects natural selection. Exotic animals belong
in the wild because the reason they are exotic is because they cannot be tamed like any other pet,
and if they can t be tamed, they can become a harm to the owner and to others that the animal
feel threatened by. Injury and possibly death is likely to happen under such circumstances of the
animals being neglected. Another reason why I believe that exotic animals do not belong under
human captivity as pets is because it is harmful to the pets and the nature of them. Some animals
need their families to survive and they also need to learn to hunt in order for them to survive.
Once an exotic animal becomes the pet of someone, it becomes dependent which is unhealthy for
the animal, especially if they are brought under captivity at such an early age. Owning exotic
animals as keeping them as pets should be illegal is what I believe is right. Exotic animals kept as
house pets are a hazard to the pet owners and any other people around the

Catch-22 and the Theme of Death
Catch 22 and the Theme of Death
There are many ways for a man to die, but there is no way to bring him back after he has entered
the world of dead. Catch 22 is a novel satirizing war, and because of this, it inevitably has a strong
underlying theme of death. But unlike many war novels, Catch 22 doesn t use violent depictions of
fighting or bloody death scenes to denounce the evils of war; it utilizes humor and irony to make an
arguably more effective point. And even more importantly, Catch 22 is ultimately a novel about
hope, not death. Although the inevitability of death is still a prominent motif, it eventually leads
the main character, Yossarian, to realize that the desire to live is important and also that he ... Show

Yossarian s most startling glimpse into the terrors of war and death comes when he spends a
night alone on the streets of Rome. He sees homeless children; he witnesses men beating
children and dogs, a rape, and a convulsing soldier; he walks over a street littered with broken
human teeth. This is one of the rare sections of the novel that does not use humor to point out the
cruelty and inhumanity of the world. The scene comes to a climax when Yossarian returns to
his apartment and discovers that Aarfy has raped an innocent maid and then thrown her out his
window, leaving her dead on the sidewalk below. Then, ironically, Yossarian is arrested for
being in Rome without a pass and Aarfy is given an apology for the disturbance, his hideous
crime going unpunished. This chapter is when Yossarian begins to really recognize the true face
of the military and the meaning of Catch 22; when he goes to the brothel and the old woman tells
him that the girls have all been kicked out of their home by soldiers, she explains to him that
Catch 22 says they have a right to do anything we can t stop them from doing (417;Ch.39). Catch
22 is the justification for every wrong the military commits, and it overrides every other moral law.
The horrors that the military creates will never stop, and Yossarian begins to realize that he cannot
fight and die

Time Capsules from the Renaissance and Baroque Time...
Two time capsules were found during renovations of the Basilica of San Lorenzo, Florence. One
time capsule dates back to the Renaissance time period. Artifacts in this time capsule included a
painting of The Birth of Venus, a lute, drawing of the Florence Cathedral s dome, and a book
called The Decameron. The second time capsule had artifacts from the Baroque time period.
Artifacts in this time capsule included a painting of The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp, a
stage painting in an opera house, canvas painting of St. Petersburg, and a play called Le Bourgeois
Gentilhomme These artifacts give us a glimpse of world events, and cultural patterns in the
Renaissanceand Baroque time period.

Another canvas lay rolled up at the bottom of the time capsule. Once unrolled, a beautiful drawing
on canvas of the Florence Cathedral s dome was revealed. The dome was designed by Filippo
Brunelleschi, drawn in 1420. This dome was the largest ever built in history in this era. Flippo
Brunelleschi used new methods of hoisting stone and masonry technique to construct the dome
(Fiero, 2011). The Florence Cathedral highly reflects the Architectural development of the early
Renaissance period. It also reflects how devoted Rome was to their religion, and how religion
influenced the Romans to build magnificent architecture for a place to worship.
A book lay at the bottom of the renaissance time capsule called The Decameron, by Giovanni
Boccaccio. This book has 100 tales about seven young women and three young men who took
shelter in a secluded villa in Florence, to escape the Black Death plague. This book shows the
social class difference that was taking place during this time period within the culture. The book
also goes into detail of what took place during the pandemic and the horrors people were faced
with. This book is also a product of the printing press made in 1450. This allowed documentation,
information, and books such as The Decameron, to be printed and passed around the world.
As the second time capsule is open the artifacts inside are from the

Frederick Douglass A Long Road To Freedom Analysis
A Long Road to Freedom
It s easy to boil down Frederick Douglas desire to escape slavery by saying that slavery was evil
and inhumane. In fact, this narrative is used as the underlying motivation of most, if not all,
slaves whose lives and journeys towards freedom. However, settling on this idea has two
potentially disastrous outcomes. A best, it lessens the role that slave owners held in this harsh
climate. A worst, it erases the inhumanities on both sides of the slave issue entirely. Yes, the desire
for freedom is certainly a part of Douglas , and countless other slaves , dangerous yearning for life
outside of abusive homes and brutal plantations, but it absolutely wasn t the only one. Slavery didn t
just hold them back physically, but economically, mentally, and spiritually. Frederick... Show more

We re told that slave owners separate babies from their mothers after twelve months, presumably
after the baby can derive nourishment from things other than their mother s milk. The owners see
this as a custom in the Maryland area, Douglas says. Slave babies were then given to older women
while the mothers were shuttled off the other plantations. This blatant violation of human rights
wasn t seen as an issue, and only served to dishearten slaves by depriving them of a meaningful
connection with their mother. Despite his mother s secret midnight trips to visit him, young
Douglas was unable to form any emotional ties to her, and likened his reaction to her death as
though she were just a stranger. Even as a child, slavery was able to strip him of an important part
of his humanity. It wasn t just him who had these issues, either. He repeats, again and again, that
the barbarity of slavery was a wide ranging issue that was horrible enough that many others would
brave the wild unknowns and risk death than stay and continue to be subjected to life on a

Hate Crime And Social Dominance Theory
Animals don t hate, and we re supposed to be better than them , is a quote by Elvis Presley.
Hatred can be defined as deep feeling of resentment or anger toward another person, group, or
thing. It has caused violent acts of anger and rage. Hate crimes are crimes that are motivated by
racial, sexual, or other prejudice, typically one involving violence (Oxford Dictionary). An example
of a hate crimeis the murder of an African American man, by a group of white men, in Mississippi.
This crime carries several characteristics of hate crime, and supports the Social Dominance Theory.
The first characteristic that this hate crime exhibited is that the haters took time to go look for an
African American to victimize in an unfamiliar area. A group of white men, who disliked black
people, went to a party in Puckett. There they discussed going to Mississippi capital to find
African Americans to harass. The men went to Mississippi, and bullied unknown black men and
women during the night. The white driver, Deryl Dedmon, drove over a black man named James
Craig Anderson with his vehicle, killing him. Going to an unfamiliar area, which the white men did
in this murder, is a characteristic of hate crime. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The men had the intentions of finding an African American to harass that night, not anyone is
particular. In fact, they harassed many African Americans before killing James by making fun of
them, using abusive language and throwing items such as empty beer bottles at them. When they
came across James, they had first beaten him, and then Deryl Dedmon drove over him with his
truck while another friend made a video. James was a victim killed by people he didn t know, and
that is another characteristic of a hate

Exploring the Disadvantages Catholics Faced in Northern Ireland in the Mid 60 s
In Northern Ireland during the 60 s Catholics faced a lot of disadvantages, in areas of Employment,
Education, Housing, and Politics; there is evidence that even the Police Force was biased in favor
of the Protestant community.
Employment was a major area in which Catholics faced discrimination. Protestants held most of the
civil service, government and local government posts in Northern Ireland and even if a catholic did
get employment, many would simply feel too uncomfortable in the midst of all the Protestants. The

whole range of occupations.
In the 1960 s the government built a new city called Craigavon in the county of Derry, but only
built 5 Catholic schools, despite the fact that 48% of children in Northern Ireland were Catholics.
This discouraged Catholics from moving there. This would cause them to move elsewhere where
there was less prejudice and they could start building foundations. However this had a dreadful
affect on the housing and living conditions. In some cases, Catholic families were bunched up, 3
families to a house.
Following a massive slum clearance effort in the post war years, when N. Ireland was experiencing
a genuine period of economic prosperity, Catholics believed that council houses were being unfairly
allotted to Protestant families rather than on the basis of need. This also affected the voting system,
as homeowners and tenants had more votes.
By the late 1960 s economic recession on the mainland was affecting N. Ireland badly.
Unemployment rose dramatically and the slum clearance stopped. By 1967 the Northern Ireland
Civil Rights Association (NICRA) was formed in the midst of growing discontent. Amongst other

Aboriginal Australia as a Dream Culture
To better understand Aboriginals as a Dream Culture I want to give more insight into Aboriginal
Australians general culture and their conceptions of Dream Time. In his discussion of religion,
Mircea Eliade describes a concept of Cosmos vs Chaos (Eliade 1957). In this notion an
unordered world is chaotic only until is it transposed during a sacred time: By occupying it and,
above all, by settling in it, man symbolically transforms it into a cosmos though a ritual repetition
of the cosmogony (Eliade 1957:31). In other words until a land is tamed or created it is
considered unordered. This can be applied to Aboriginal s understanding of the world prior to their
current presence. Aboriginals believe that in a time before the Dreamings, the land and world was a
featureless earth. It was not until the dreamtime, or time of creation: where there is contact with
appearances from both realms of inside the earth itself as from ill defined upper region that the
earth began to have its composed landscapes (Cowan 1992:26). The Dream Time is not only a
period but more of a dimension where ancestral beings moved across the earth and created not only
land, but every aspect of the earth including animals, plants, and man. It is important to realize that
the ancestors created the natural earth and that is why Aboriginals live a particular lifestyle. Most
Aboriginals living in this cosmogony are hunter gatherer tribes. This aspect of their life can be
traced to stem from the idea of

The Truth About the Music Industry Essay
Music is universally known as an expression of emotion, rebellion against the man, a way of life, a
random collection of sounds, an annoying thing kids listen to, or even a vacation from everything,
but in reality music is free of all definition. The industry involved in buying, selling and recording
of music has grown so old, treacherous, and ignorant that it can not figure out the steps it needs to
evolve with the rapidly expanding music industry. Musicians and fans alike are screaming about the
dire need of some modern day innovation in the market. Sadly the monstrous corporations that
dominate the market have put a lid on the competitive edge, stopped the innovative changes any
smaller companies can make.

As a band we have done some research of studio time and what it costs to have a record
published and sold in stores. I understand that music is hard to make a living off of because its
hard enough to just pay for the things your band needs and that record labels lose a lot of money
in trying to finance an album that has such a high chance of failure. But major Record labels are
creating a monopoly of the music industry which limits the innovation and advancement other
minor labels or musicians could provide by taking away competition. The market is dominated by
the Big Three (Sony, Warner Music Group, and Universal Music Group) who continuously buy out
competition and all have many smaller companies who have front names to cover up the fact
that they are owned by the larger corporation. Ten years ago there were five major companies
that controlled the market place, in the beginning of 2005 Sony and BMG, Bertelsmann Music
Group, decided to form a 50/50 partnership that would spread worldwide. Together they
controlled a vast majority of American music and the only place in the world that was not apart
of this corporation was Japan because the business would be affected too much. Then in 2008
BMG announced that they were not going to renew the contract because of falling sales which
would have been really bad for Sony financially, so they decided to buy BM s portion of the
company for 1.2 billion, which included all of BMG s record

Predictable and Unpredictable Life Events
The events that we experience in our lives influence how we develop and change in each stage of
our lives. Life pushes us through changes at particular point. These periods of change are all
transition points which can be little unsettling. They are usually counterbalanced by periods of
clam and stability. These changes may make us feel awkward or even be painful but they are
necessary because life does not stand still.
A life event can change the direction of our lives, affecting our personal development. Some major
changes in life can be predicted and even chosen, while others may be unpredicted. Predictable life

We might also feel pressured by new demands on time and mental energy.
Retirement is a predictable event of having a work. This event contributes positive and negative
effect on our development. This event would mean that we could have more free time and we
can control more our lives compared when we have work. We can do things that we always wanted
to do but because of work we have not got the chance to do it like may be some hobbies or having
holidays in different places. By this it can boost up our intellectual, emotional and even social
skills. However, this could also affect us negatively like lack of daily routine because or loss of
previous work roles, may be loss of contact with your close work colleagues which affect your
social life and could lead to loneliness, less money and difficulty in establishing a new lifestyle and
may become ill.
The other side of this event is an unpredictable event which is losing your job or made redundant
because of either the job is no longer needed of the company has gone bankrupt which can affect
our development as it can lead to financial pressures; lack of daily routine and loss of sense of
identity; loss of self confidence or even worse self respect; loss of social relationships with work

Categories of Human Environmental Hazards
Background There are various categories of human environmental hazards: chemical, biological,
physical and psychosocial/cultural. Each, in its own way, contributes to an overall situations or
threats that affect both the environment and human life. Sometimes a fifth category is included,
mechanical, which include energy plants, factories, etc.
Chemical Hazards Chemicals are both naturally occurring and man made. From the environment,
exposure to chemical agents in our air, water, food and soil, have shown to be hazardous to
human health causing cancer and lung disease, metabolic issues, brain damage, and even birth
defects. Essentially, these chemicals act as toxins and poisoning, also playing a role in infectious
diseases and causing the body s immune system to break down. The World Health Organization,
for instance, believes that billions of people are exposed to chemical hazards on a regular basis
(solvents, acids, pesticides, etc.), but at different levels and differing levels of toxicity and over
differing periods of time. The exposure rate, especially from heavy metals and agricultural waste
and products, seem to be the most serious over time, but even such products as led and arsenic can
cause cancers that are serious and attributable to environmental standards (World Research Institute,

The Prevalence Of Hiv Is Higher Among Women Essay
The prevalence of HIV is higher among women (30%) than men (19%) (Ministry of Health
[Lesotho] ICF International, 2014). For both men and women, HIV prevalence increases with
age and then declines. HIV prevalence is highest for women at age group 35 39 (46%) and for
men at age group 40 44 (44%). Taking employment into consideration, employed individuals in
Lesotho have higher prevalence of HIV than unemployed for both men and women. The
prevalence among employed men and women is 39% and 23%, respectively and among
unemployed men and women is 21% and 9%, respectively. Social stigmatization and
discrimination inhibit citizens of Lesotho from HIV screening. Knowing whether they are HIV
positive and/or concern of being labeled in their community function as barriers in citizens getting
screened. Males in the population are more likely to express attitudes in favor of social
stigmatization. Stigmatization is directly related to disparities: gender, socioeconomic, and
education. (Socioeconomic determinants.... pg. IV.Sex Workers According to the Trafficking in

My First Family Reunion
When anyone thinks of a perfect family photo, they imagine a family with fancy clothing, a bright
sunny day, green grass and faces that have been enhanced. When my family takes photos they are
not quite that picture perfect family that s advertise but a family that goes deeper than perfection. I
come from a fairly large familywith five sisters, one brother and that includes my parents four
grandchildren and one son in law. My sisters are in the middle row off to the left side, my
brothers hand is wrapped around my mother. My little sister is the one with the long black braids. I
am on the right side holding my son of five months and my husband Rudy right next to me. In the
front row is my dad with his three grandchildren.
This photo holds a special place in my heart because it was our very first family reunion.
Looking back on this day brings a tear to my eye because time is a big factor and I can tell time
has gone by since that day. I stare at this photo and can t help but feel blessed. We are all alive
and in good health. Knowing that this was the last photo we took as a family makes it so much
more meaningful to me. That day was filled with excitement and laughter. I remember this day
like it was yesterday. The date was August 8th 2015 and this photo was taken at my grandparent s
farm. It was so humid that I took about three showers. I felt sticky and fussy just like a baby.
Although my kids didn t feel the weather because they were too busy enjoying the open land

Similarities Between Sale And The Crucible
If you were granted the power of authority above others, how would you control it? The Crucible
is mainly about how Abigail accuses many innocent people in Salem of witchcraft and working for
the devil. This event leads to the hanging of many people simply because of Abigail s vengeance
against Elizabeth in order to get together with John, although in the end Abigail gained nothing.
Miller, the author of The Crucible is trying to convey the message that in times of chaos, people
may be blinded from the truth, making the truth indistinguishable the from the many lies. The
events that take place in the play The Crucible are comparable to the events of Rosa ParksBus
Boycott, because both events depict how power is gained through the course of your actions.
One cold evening in the December of 1995, Rosa Parks refused to give her seat up to a white
male on her bus ride back from work. Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat led to her getting
arrested by James Blake, a white man who demanded that her along with 3 other black women
move from that area. Rosa Parks being arrested caused new issues to arise. The African
American people protested as they felt they were not being treated as equally as the white
people. Parks could be described as a brave woman who stood behind changing racism and
segregation in the world. Back then, segregation was a huge problem against the white people, but
as a result of her actions, Rosa Parks received recognition and respect from both

The Religion Of The Nation Of Israel
Abram, a pagan gentile called from a pagan land and culture, became the patriarch of the Nation of
Israel. Moreover, through God s covenant with him his numerous descendants inherited Palestine
and from them came Messiah, the blessing to all peoples on earth. Understanding the culture of Ur
of the Chaldeans, Abram s place of origin, requires a determination of where this area was located
and analyzing archaeological discoveries of that area in conjunction with other disciplines of
biblical study.
About 1800 B.C. Abram s father, Terah, took his family and left Ur for Canaan but settled in
Haran where Terah died. Haran was located in the southern part of modern day Turkey. After his
father s death, Abram was called by God to continue his journey to the land of Canaan and he was
called from, Ur of the Chaldeans. Abraham s call from this pagan culture further affirms that God
is both merciful and gracious as well as sovereign over the affairs of mankind.
Ur of the Chaldeans is the first reference to the city in the biblical narrative with regards to
Abram s city of origin. Abram s brother, Haran, died in Ur before Terah, Abram s and Haran s
father, took the family to the city of Haran, a well known stop along trade routes in Mesopotamia.
The exact location of where the ancient city of Ur was located is debatable.
Prior to an 1849 excavation by Sir. W.K. Loftus of a site located in modern day southern Iraq, most
scholars placed Ur in the north based on the biblical narrative

Marjane Satrapi s Persepolis Essay
Western culture has often misperceived the east and the way that their society functions. In
Marjane Satrapi s Persepolis, Satrapi uses graphic novels as a way to demonstrate to the western
culture how the east has been misrepresented. The use of media helps to depict to the west how
their views of the east may have been unfairly formed in the past. The media has only revealed
limited knowledge that only shows partial perspectives because it is difficult to get perspectives of
the minorities although they are the ones who hold the most truth. In other words the use of
graphic novels and a child s perspective give the west a new idea on how it is that society in the
east functions. This style of writing brings the connection between the two... Show more content on

By allowing the reader to form their own perspective it makes the reader reconsider the
assumptions...[of the] so called other by giving the reader the freedom to perceive the events of
the revolution as they wish and not reconsider the way that they once understood the people of
the east to be (Darda 34). Satrapi is using her experience and graphic novels to show what her
experience as a child was, she does not claim at any point to be telling the entire story of the
revolution she is merely introducing a new perspective which up until that point had not been seen
in the western countries. The concept of making the hidden visible allows the reader to understand
the Israeli revolution in a way that is has not been viewed before (Chute 106). Through the
strategic use of graphic novels it demonstrates the way that she experienced it first hand without
the interruption of western style media. Graphic novels take away any assumptions that you may
make about the revolution while reading it because you have the image right in front of you and
there is no way for it to be misinterpreted. Due to the large impact that media has on the viewpoints
and ideas of western citizens the westerns perspective of what is true and what doesn t exist has

Pronoun and Connection Languages (Bandwagon)Bandwagon is perceived by Media Literacy
Project (2013) as one of the basic persuasion techniques due to its easy recognition, as well as
frequent application. During an analysis many instances of this technique have been identified both
in the manner of specific pronoun language and connection language. Bandwagon implies to
broader audience ( everyone, [or at least] cool people ) i.e. users of a service or buyers of a
merchandised product, and urging other receivers of an advertisement to jump on the bandwagon
(ibid.). Analytically, pronoun language may be the linguistic tool that enhances the bandwagon
technique. Through I self commitment, You/we group creation and He/she/they out grouping the
speaker commits his view, shows his care of the listener, offers a solution to a problem and creates
a bond with him (Changing Minds, 2002 2013). Moreover, so called connection language (use of
with/without, this/that and us/them) which aims at attaching and pushing away derives benefits
from associative way of thinking, thus join identities of people making them a part of themselves,
and so forgive, approve, and agree with [themselves] (ibid.). When talking about second person

One specific way the main character shows signs of having mental instabilities is conflict,
throughout the short story the woman, who remains without a name, shows signs of weakness

mind turned on and started to over think her life and began to think she was vanishing along with

Kleeman writes the main character to seem some sort of dark character because of all of the
resources the woman uses trying to get out of her dark thoughts of how she s alone and has no
one and reminiscing in the past of her loved one. Not to mention how she claims to lose sight of
the memories she s held onto all this time of them even at the beginning of the story, tries to
connect with the audience by using a loss of a pet to describe how she feels now that it is no
longer there. Going back to symbolism the cat that she mentions in the first part of the short story
is a symbol to not only help connect to the audience but create the feeling and the atmosphere to
portray her feeling towards her situation with her abandoned life. The woman also states how the
world was fading and unthinking itself and that in itself could be quite confusing but Kleeman is
making the woman describe the world to be disappearing faster than anyone can imagine
(Kleeman) and in reality it s just the woman that is withdrawing from life (Gregory). The woman
is stating how she s just standing outside her loved ones house calling for him even though she
knows no one will answer, almost like something from a movie. The psycho woman yelling for

My Day At School
On Thursday the fourth week of school, I woke up earlier than usual. I set my alarm to vibrate at
8:30 but I instead woke up at 8. Not caring how exhausted, I was from staying up late the night
before to complete an assignment, regretting procrastinating, I decided to start my day early.
Being prudent, I search the weather to figure out what to wear. I prepared myself for the day,
setting my clothes on the bed and placed my shoes out. I took my towel and shower caddy with
all my shower essentials out and hopped in the shower moments later. When I finished washing
I put my clothes on and put a ponytail in my hair. My class start at 9:30 am and I was ready at 9:10
am. Staying at Rosa Alexander Hall I have to leave before 9:20 because Madison is a 10 minute
walk.
Walking downstairs, greeting the RA that was at the front desk, I walked out the front door and into
beautiful weather. The sky was sapphire blue and the sun was shining so bright it might blind your
eyes if you look directly at it. This is the first good weather we had since the rain we have been
having for these few days. Walking to class, just pass the library, I see one of my friends and we
decide to walk with each other because our class is in the same building. Reaching the building my
friend and us go our separate ways, her staying on the first floor and me heading upstairs.
My first class is English 101 with Professor Camp. We went over the vocabulary words and learned
that we have a quiz on Tuesday. Then we went over one of Maya Angulo s stories to have an idea
of what our observation paper looks like. Mr. Camp ended class around 11:15 so I just walked
downstairs to my other class. I was so early that the class that uses the classroom before us was still
there.
My teacher entered class looking like she was trying to put her life together. Gathering the
materials she will be needing for the lesson. She made a couple of announcements and went
along teaching. The class was long and dreadful. I wanted to bring my bed in class to fall asleep. It
felt like she has been talking forever until I checked the time and saw only 25 minutes passed I
realized this was going to be a long class. Class ended and I hurried out of class not wanting to stay

I approvingly agree with the statement that the ANZAC legacy has survived to this day as

Not only does ANZAC day remember the landing or anniversary but it is the day we remember

courageous story of the landing at Gallipoli and the ANZACS are still remembered today.
Memorial facilities and services are held at sunrise on 25 April, the time of the original landing,
across the nation, usually at war memorials. This was started by returned soldiers after the First
World War in the 1920s as a common form of commemoration. The initial official dawn service

public holiday. Primarily the services were only attended by veterans who followed the ritual of
standing a moment of silence while listening to a lone piper playing the Last Post . Then later
marches were held in most major cities and many families and other people joined and
acknowledged them. Now ANZAC day is a day when Australians gather, reflect and remember the

Essay on Benny Goodman, King of Swing
Benjamin David Goodman was born in Chicago on May 30, 1909, the ninth of twelve children
born to David and Dora Goodman, who both emigrated from Russia but met in America.
David Goodman eked out a minimal living for his family by working for a tailor in a sweatshop. To
help alleviate the family s poverty, the children were urged to work as soon as they were old enough.
For entertainment, David would take his youngest children to Douglas Park on Sundays to hear
free band concerts. It was here that he first heard of the Kehelah Jacob band. Lessons were given
for one quarter at the Kehelah Jacob synagogue. David Goodman enrolled his three youngest sons
with the hopes that one day, their music would lift them out of poverty. It was here... Show more

This led to his first professional gig in 1921 in a vaudeville show at Central Park Theater.
In 1923, at the age of 14, Benny Goodman left school to play with local bands, including Bill
Grimm s riverboat orchestra with Bix Beiderbecke. There is an interesting anecdote about
Benny s first meeting with Bix. One day, Benny received an emergency call from Grimm, asking
him to fill in for Grimm s clarinetist, who was ill. Benny arrived early in the day at the dock
where the boat on which he was to perform was moored. Benny stepped onto the bandstand and
immediately heard a shout to get off there, kid! Stop that fooling around! (Benny Goodman, 1979)
Benny turned to see a fellow about four or five years older, holding a trumpet and staring
disdainfully at Benny. That fellow, Bix Beiderbecke, did not want to hear any explanations from
this young kid in knickers. However, Bill Grimm arrived before any trouble could start and
introduced the boys. The young men hit it off and much fun and great music stemmed from that
first session together.
At that same time, Benny and his high school friends had earned the nickname,
The Wild West Side Mob , not for their behavior, but because of their free, ragged, style of jazz.
While this style made them great jam session musicians, it made it difficult for them to find work.
Hot jazz was not in demand. Nevertheless, Benny s ability to play cool, sweet jazz on demand
ensured that he found plenty of

Is Jason Still Relevant Today
Myths of the heroes speak most eloquently of man s quest to choose life over death (Dorothy
Norman). Just like this quote reads, the myth of Jason gives choices that bring out the best and
worst in his character. Some of his decisions also determine the fate of others. Jason is a Greek
mythological hero that is give a quest to attain the Golden Fleece in order to rule his father s land.
Through his difficult encounters on his journey, he eventually retrieves the Fleece, but things do
not go as well as he hoped. The possible origin of the myth is common with many other myths

Many of the key points, however, have remained the same. Apollonius story was so popularly
enjoyed that it really has not changed greatly. The myth has only changed to adapt to the
modern times (Lieberman). As from the detailed summary before, there were crucial parts of the
myth that are necessary in order for the myth to flow easily. There have been a few adaptations
of the myth throughout the years. More recently, in the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, a couple
book and movie adaptations have been created. In 1867, The Life and Death of Jason written by
British writer William Morris has many of the key aspects of the myth in his book. There are
only a small number of differences in the two. One difference is the reason for Heracles
disappearance. Morris most likely kept the same details as the myth, but added some of his
personal touch to it to appeal to his readers (Lieberman). Another adaptation of the myth is the
first movie adaptation called Jason and the Argonauts, made in 1963. The same relative story is
found in the movie, but some details were changed. In the movie, Jason meets Pelias by saving
him in the river as he was drowning. In the process, Jason loses a sandal. After saving Pelias, not
realizing who he was, Jason told him about his desire to rule Iolcus. Pelias tells him to retrieve the
Golden Fleece and he would have the power to overthrow Pelias. It is believed that

The Four Stages Of Group Development
The four stages of group development are forming, storming, norming, and performing. None of
the stages have to go in a particular order. Forming is the first stage where people join together
for a reason. Our group formed because this class put us together, which was mainly based on the
need to fulfill the goal of passing Small Group Communication and doing a service project
together. This happened when we filled out the sheets about our skills and whom we would and
would not like to work with. We were then all introduced to our new groups in class.
Stage two was next for us. This stage is called storming. This is the tension felt in the group. It is
fine for a group to have tension as long as it is a healthy balance of helpful and unhelpful tension.
There are two different types. The first is primary tension, which is what a group feels when
they first meet. That tension usually goes away over time as the group finds a sense of
cohesiveness. There is also secondary tension, which consists of the stress and strain of dealing
with deadlines, conflicts, and scheduling issues. Our group honestly had a very healthy balance
of tension. We all got along from the very first time we met. I even remember us all saying how
happy we were that we ended up in The Avengers. This continued on even with deadlines,
conflicts, and schedules. We all were very good about being flexible and open to new ideas for the
most part. I think that deadlines just pushed us to work harder and cooperate

The Massachusetts Bay Colony Case Against Anne Hutchinson
The Massachusetts Bay Colony Case Against Anne Hutchinson is a transcription of a court trial.
The document was written in 1637 by an unnamed person, who worked for the court. It was written
to keep a record of the trial and to set a precedent for future trials. Anne Hutchinson was on trial for
holding and practicing beliefs that were considered threatening to the stability of the church and
community. Anne Hutchinson was convicted of antinomianism and was subsequently
excommunicated from the colony. After leaving MassachusettsBay, Anne went on to help found
Portsmouth, Rhode Island. After Portsmouth, Anne Hutchinson went to Long Island where she was

Anne Hutchinson was on trial when The Massachusetts Bay Colony Case against Anne Hutchinson
was written. The document reveals many things about the Puritans religious beliefs and way of
life. Massachusetts Bay was founded in 1629. By 1640, 20,000 people had migrated to
Massachusetts. The founders of the colony traveled to America because they were not in control of
the church in England. The puritans knew that they would be able to practice their religion freely in
America. They wanted to create a better England that was ruled by their religious beliefs. The
Puritans knew that this was possible in America, so, they left England. Once the puritans reached
Massachusetts Bay they created extreme laws that strictly followed their religion. The

Ethical dilemmas will always be a part of our nursing practice due to such a diverse patient

Socrate and the Examined Life
The significance of the Examined life
Adrian Eames 951105878
Section leader: Elizabeth Grosz
The Trial and Death of Socrates takes place during a time in Socrates life where he becomes most
reflective. During these final moments of Socrates life a theme arises, that of the unexamined life.
Socrates claims that the unexamined life is not worth living (Apology 38a). Profound as the
statement may seem it creates many questions; what is the unexamined life? And why is the idea
of an examined life so dear to Socrates? It s clear throughout the dialogues of The Trial and Death
of Socrates has a sort of obsession with questioning the world around him, and discovering truth.
These dialogues highlight an inner struggle within Socrates as he ... Show more content on

Socrates uses his apology to to attack the wealthy and those who chase after positions of power
Wealth does not bring about excellence, but excellence makes wealth and everything else good
for men, both individually and collectively (apology 30b). This quote provides two insightful
pieces of knowledge about Socrates. The first is that it shows his perception of wealth and what it
is to be truly wealthy, to Socrates quality of life is wealth. The second is it shows that Socrates
believes that doing the right thing will lead to a better quality of life, or what he considers to be
wealth.
Above all Socrates greatest interest is the state of ones soul. While Socrates is accused and put
to death for being an atheist it is clear that Socrates does believe in the gods and in fact believes
them to be all powerful. Socrates seems aware that he is destined to be put to death from the start
of the dialogues as his main focus is always on right and wrong, pious and impious. After spending
what seems like an eternity trying to define pious and impious Socrates and Euthyphro arrive at a
dead end, Socrates shows his determination by saying so we must investigate again from the
beginning what piety is, as I shall not willingly give up before I learn this ( Euthyphro 15d). It s

First Continental Congress Essay example
The First Continental Congress The American dream is built upon a foundation of struggles and
gains, along with more struggles. A look back to early American History provides one with a
timeline that seems endless and full of surprises. The First Continental Congress serves as one of
those timeline markers and is a great example of the American way. Being one of the first meetings
ever between the colonists, The First Continental Congresslaid one of the first bricks into the
foundation of America.
The First Continental Congress made its mark in history on September 5,1774 in Philadelphia s
Carpenters Hall. According to the u s history.com website, The idea of such a meeting was
advanced a year earlier by Benjamin Franklin, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Independence was not the issue at this meeting, rather the members in Congress sought to right the
wrongs that the colonies had endured. Along with that redemption, the members of the First
Continental Congress sought to gain a voice in London, something they were denied of.
One cannot truly grasp the magnitude of this Continental Congress until we look at the prominent
figures in attendance during this time. There were 55 delegates in Carpenter s Hall but perhaps the
most prominent figures include, George Washington, Samuel Adams, John Adams, Patrick Henry,
Richard Henry Lee, John Jay and John Dickinson. The delegates were mainly those of high social
standing and many made their living in the fields of trade, farming and law. Communication
between the colonies was very minimal, therefore many delegates were meeting for the first time
and all would have different opinions and issues.
Members of the First Continental Congress did not suffer from lack of communication, as The first
few weeks were consumed in discussion and debate. The colonies had always, up to this time, acted
as independent entities. With that many delegates had to overcome distrust and learn to work as a
whole body rather than individuals with different agendas.
The agenda at the First Continental Congress was not completely clear in the eyes of the delegates.
Leadership, during this time, was crucial and once this issue was

Sandusky Case Summary
Poor inventory management allowed the storage of old wine products and promotional items that
led to a buildup of out dated inventory. Poor communication between department managers in
marketing and production also led to the mess. The production department started producing a large
volume of inventory before the marketingdepartment was ready to begin its promotional campaign.
All of this was combined with the current inventory.
Which inventory cost components are missing in the calculation of total inventory cost?
The inventory cost components that are missing are, the cost of storage and inventory risks. The
cost of storing an outdated product line adds to the overall cost of inventory. This takes away from
the profit margin of current production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that the company has lost revenue. If not careful it can also be considered inventory
fraud. This can happen if you show that inventory as part of your net worth and then it no longer
exists reducing the projected value of the company (2).
Some inventory can be salvaged by selling it at a discounted price or, in Sandusky s case
relabeling the promotional wine products. There are also some components of the products that can
be salvaged. The bottles from the wine that were improperly stored can be emptied, sterilized, and
then reused. This would help to reduce the price of inventory purchase costs.
Inventory write off can be explained but never justified. Unless the case is fire or natural disaster
there is no excuse. If the company has proper inventory management then the product will be sent
to market. It will not sit in storage until it becomes out dated obsolete. Improper record keeping and
inventory control does not justify loss of revenue by discarding product.
How would you change the current inventory management practices (including inventory
classification schemes) to ease storage space

Imagery of Snakes in Macbeth Essay
In the biblical book of Genesis, Eve is tempted by a serpent to commit an ungodly act of eating a
forbidden fruit. As a result of the snake s temptation, Eve eats the fruit, resulting in the presence of
worldwide sin and the downfall of perfection. From this story of Adam and Eve, the figure of the
snakehas become generally associated with temptation, evil, and cynicism. William Shakespeare
employs this symbolic imagery of snakes in Macbeth, to enhance the story of the rise and fall of
Macbeth s power. For poetic and playwright purposes, Shakespeare uses serpentine imagery to
reveal the malevolence of characters, and portray the threatening position of the throne, all while
provoking a heightened emotion of fear and tragedy from the... Show more content on

This struggle of loyalty vs. ambition correlates with Eve s biting of the fruit, which
instantaneously fills her with sin. Eve s ambition was to obtain knowledge of the world, yet in
order to achieve it, she was forced to go against her God. In Macbeth, Lady Macbeth s incentive
is power, which in this case would be a seat on the throne. In both cases, evil is a required side
effect to gain their desired qualities. And this evil desire approaches both characters in the form of
a serpent.
Following Lady Macbeth s unsexing , the most descriptive use of serpentine imagery is revealed.
Lady Macbeth persuades Macbeth to kill Duncan. By doing so, she uses a metaphor of a snake to
portray the Macbeth s future evil actions.
To beguile the time,
Look like the time; bear welcome in your eye,
Your hand, your tongue: look like th innocent
flower,
But be the serpent under t. (1.5.64 67).
This simile is very similar to the clichГ© snake in the grass, which implies a stealthily treacherous
and surprise action. In this passage, Lady Macbeth explains that in order to succeed, they must act
normal around their guests, and conceal their evil desires. The snake thus represents Macbeth s
hidden ambition, and more literally, Lady Macbeth s plan of action.
However, the serpent, to which Lady Macbeth metaphorically speaks of in act one scene five, is
not only these evil desires of Macbeth. It also represents the threat that Macbeth possesses to
Duncan.

The Fukushima Nuclear Facility Disaster
The Fukushima nuclear facility disaster following the March 2011 Tohoku earthquake and
tsunami has motivated the need to design and build a small, remotely controlled repair device.
The purpose of the device is to navigate using remote control to a specified location, and complete
a series of tasks. This will protect the human operators from absorbing a high dose of radioactive
contamination. This project provides a platform for student groups to present their solutions to a
range of design problems such as remotely completing everyday tasks as well as solutions for
propulsion, sensing, and navigation. Each team is required to design construct, and operate a

However, after brainstorming together, we finally came up with one design that was easy to
succeed and had the capacity to do all the five tasks very fast and easily, which are the magnets
that we are using today. Furthermore, in the engineering process we used, we needed to define
the main problem and test some designs to get the right one. Lastly, we improved our final
design by making it bigger. For the first design, we went to Walmart and we looked for a remote
controlled jeep that had some good specifications, but when we saw a lot of RC car options we
did not know which one was the best, so we decided to buy one and try it. We found an RC jeep
cost us $12.57, which was not much. We made small talk about the size, the tires, the quality,
and the way it was combined together. After that, we bought the jeep and started to combine the
material we had for the testing together. Unfortunately, the car didn t work because it was bigger
than the pipe. We started an argument about how we could make it fit in the pipe, until finally
we decided to refund the money and started thinking about using a different device. For the
second design, after the first device failed the test we did not give up. We went to Walmart for the
second time and looked for a smaller car. We found a lot of different cars, but all the cars did not
look like they had very good quality and none looked very fast. We found an RC sports car

Essay An Analysis Of The Jungle By Upton Sinclair
In the early 1900 s life for America s new Chicago immigrant workers in the meat packing
industry was explored by Upton Sinclair s novel The Jungle. Originally published in 1904 as a
serial piece in the socialist newspaper Appeal to Reason, Sinclair s novel was initially found too
graphic and shocking by publishing firms and therefore was not published in its complete form
until 1906. In this paper, I will focus on the challenges faced by a newly immigrated worker and
on what I feel Sinclair s purpose was for this novel. In the early 1900 s a newly arrived immigrant
worker faced numerous challenges that had to be overcome. Often times literally arriving with the
clothes on their back and a few meager dollars, it was crucial for these... Show more content on

While not all of these examples have a direct monetary impact, each of the dealings associated
with them does which in turn motivates the parties involved to make decisions and perform
actions outside the normal scope for their character. The third challenge faced by new
immigrants was acquiring and then keeping steady work. Although the Packingtown in Chicago
was in a constant state of activity, the sheer number of available workers and the rule of supply
and demand made it difficult for some to find work. It was not uncommon for some workers to
stand at the plant doors for weeks before being selected. And once a person was chosen to be a
worker, they had to labor at a fever pitch to make sure they were retained. That being said, the
worker s problems did not end once they found steady employment. Employers were harsh and
unforgiving in how they treated their employees. For example, if an employee was one minute late
they were penalized an hours pay. If they were 20 minutes late they forfeited their employment.
Worse yet, if they were injured or hurt on the job the company takes no responsibility and the
worker is forced to recuperate on their own time without pay

Theme Of Maturity In The Princess Bride
In the fantasy romance novel, The Princess Bride, by William Goldman, Buttercup suffers through
many harrowing experiences. From presumably losing her one true love, almost being forced to
marry a man she didn t love, to being kidnapped and almost murdered. Through these experiences
over the course of The Princess Bride, Buttercup was forced to mature greatly.
In the beginning of The Princess Bride novel, the beautiful advancement of Buttercup and
Westley s love story comes to its presumed ending mere pages after its unfolding. After Buttercup
hears of Westley s presumed death, she locks herself away in her room for days, eating very
little. This point in the book is arguably the biggest changing point in Buttercups maturity. In the
book, it states that The woman who emerged was a trifle thinner, a great deal wiser, an ocean
sadder (Goldman 69). After Buttercup believes Westley is dead, it is almost as though she
becomes more sophisticated. It is obvious that she has matured by the way she acts. She is no
longer the feisty teenager who refuses to even wash behind her ears, she becomes a woman who
understands the world a bit better and sees it as a bit darker. Buttercup learns to take care of
herself and the book states that, She was 18. She was the most beautiful woman in a hundred years.
She didn t seem to care (69). In the movie, the narrator states that Buttercups emptiness consumed
her (The Princess Bride). She becomes almost cold and indifferent, most likely

In order to develop an effective marketing plan a company must understand its best and current
customers. Smart Card LLC, the experts on card solutions, enables companies to perfect frequency
marketing. In the past, loyalty programs have been difficult to implement. Smart Card LLC has
overcome those obstacles and created a one of a kind product that lessen the costs, lowers
complexity, and minimizes bookkeeping; all required to implement a successful loyalty program.

The company s target market is a mass of retail and other industries. They designed their product to
be a one size fits all with the flexibility to match benefits to any consumer. In general, retailers are
the prime candidates for this type of product, however not segmenting further will hinder the
execution of a marketing strategy and overall profitability. A deeper analysis into the target market
is necessary. Problem Statement
Does the company know the size of the market?
Smart Card LLC has failed to correctly identify its target market and understand its size. They want
their product to appeal to the masses. Successfully implementing a one size fits all product without
a specific marketing scheme is likely to fail.
Smart Card LLC did not specify its pricing strategy. A comparison of price strategies with the
competition was not discussed either. One aspect not considered is that smart card users will need
to update their current technology in order to benefit from the company s product. This could
require significant capital which only specific company s would be willing to pay. This severely
limits the potential market size and must be factored into its pricing plan.
Another interesting company decision is the use of regional sales force in the promotion process.
By placing its sales force into regions the company is asking them to sell to both small and large
firms alike. Salespeople with little experience

Julius Caesar Reputation Analysis
Julius Caesar The Introduction
Each man believed that the other attempted to increase his own reputation at his colleague s price.
In 59 BC Caesar tried out to reconcile both men and then blended their power along with his own
to obtain himself elected consul. He provided Julia his daughter to Pompey in matrimony to
solidify his alliance. The alliance put together Caesar s enormous level of popularity and legal
reputation with Crassus s fantastic prosperity and effect and Pompey s evenly spectacular military
reputation.

He returned to Rome in 60 BC, enthusiastic for the consulate. Against the senatorial opposition he
organised a faction which was called the First Triumvirate, It was made up of Marcus Licinius
Crassus, richest man in Rome, Pompey, who was a general and a commander chief in the army,
and the organizer himself Caesar. After joining Pompey and Crassus had conflict between each
other and were jealous of each other, , but Caesar handled it all and kept the arrangement going.
Caesar married Calpurnia in 59 BC. As being a consul, he guaranteed the passing of an agrarian
laws providing Campanian lands for 20,000 poor people and veterans, regardless of the
opposition of his senatorial colleague, Marcus Calpurnius Bibulus. Caesar also earned the
support of the prosperous equites by obtaining a reduction for them in their duty deals in Asia.
This made him the guiding ability in a coalition between people and plutocrats. He was assigned
the rule of Cisalpine and Transalpine Gaul and Illyricum with four legions for five years (58
B.C. 54 B.C.). The dissimilarities between Pompey and Crassus grew, and Caesar again
transferred (56 B.C.) to patch up things, coming to an arrangement that both Pompey and Crassus
should be consuls in 55 B.C. which their proconsular provinces should be Syria and Spain,
respectively. Out of this set up an expansion was attracted by him of his demand in Gaul to 49

Essay on Solving the Foreclosure Crisis
The frequency of foreclosure in our nation today is dangerously high. The strain from the recent
economic downturn has put many families and individuals in a financial chokehold preventing
them from being able to make their monthly mortgage payments. Consequently, many of these
people feel they ve punched a one way ticket to foreclosure. With all these homes being foreclosed
on, we face a very real crisis.
The best way to solve this foreclosure crisis is preventing homes from foreclosing one house at a
time. The American family needs a simple option to save their home. My solution is based upon the
concept of the homeowner paying what they are capable today, with a long term solution for the
homeowner to repay the entire debt eventually. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The simple solution is to reduce the home owner s monthly payment to an amount they can afford,
by reducing the size of the loan balance. The framework would be as follows:
Government stimulus funds are applied to pay down the owner s home loan to the bank with two
caveats. First, the bank must re amortize the payments on the lower loan amount; second, the
government funds become a filed lien (second mortgage) on the home. This is a RELIEF loan.
1.This program is open to every low, moderate, and high income family
2.All participants must file a full tax return each year
3.The amount of the government RELIEF loan cannot exceed 40% of the home s tax assessed
value , or $100,000 maximum
4.Government loans are repaid through the following:
Apply IRS refunds to the balance
Allow 401K withdrawals without penalties to be applied to the balance
Apply a set percentage of federal entitlement money to the balance (Possibly 15%)
Apply proceeds from the future sale of the home to the balance (Any remaining balance
becomes an unsecured loan)
5.The RELIEF loan is interest free for first five years. The interest rate for the remaining years will
be nominal (Possibly 2%)
EXAMPLE
Take a typical family of five that purchased their house in 2007 at the median house price in
Portland, OR of $295,200. With a typical home loan of 6% interest rate over 30 years, they are
making monthly principal and interest payments of $1681. After two years, they now

Feminism in The Wizard of Oz
The Wizard of Oz Film and Book Background
The Wizard of Oz is a book by L. Frank Baum written in 1900 and adapted into a musical fantasy
in 1939. It starred a young Judy Garland, and was notable because of its use of special effects,
color, unusual characters, and a fantasy storyline made into a major motion picture. It has become
almost iconoclastic in film history, shown regularly on network television and becoming a part of
American cultural history. The song Somewhere Over the Rainbow, won an Oscar for best song,
and has been recorded by hundreds of artists. In fact, for numerous critics, the movie is ranked
among the top 10 movies of all times, and the Library of Congress names it the most watched film
in history (The Wizard of Oz, 2010; Baum, 1956).
Most people are more familiar with the movie rather than the series of Baum s books. As a film,
we must remember that color cinematography was in its infancy in Hollywood. In fact, Hal
Rosson won an award for cinematography. Taken in context, the lushness and color saturated feel
he gave to the film enhances the idea that we re not in Kansas anymore. Some of the props and
glitter may look at tad campy to a modern audience, but looking at the film in historical context
allows one to be transported into Oz, a magical place of new colors, shapes, and textures done in
such a realistic manner that it cannot help but improve the imaginative experience for the audience.
In a similar manner, the mise en scene, or the

Why Do You Do Not Your Favorite Tv Show And During The...
Introduction Scenario: you are watching your favorite TV show and during the commercial break
an advertisement comes on for a brand new device that potty trains puppies. If you have a puppy
and understand how wild and untamed they are, this offer would not only seem heaven sent, but
interest you, making you more likely to think deeply about whether or not to buy the product.
However, if you do not own a puppy, you would quickly lose interest in the commercial and it is
extremely unlikely that you would give it much thought after the commercial is over. Why is it
that things that peak our interest are more likely to stimulate our deep thoughts while things that
are less relevant to us do not? The Elaboration Likelihood Theory explains just that. It analyzes
how variables such as motivation, processing, ability, and persuasion play a role in how much
thought we give to a certain message. From the puppy commercial, to major things such as the
digitization of health records and the upcoming presidential election, the Elaboration Likelihood
Theory explains our likelihood of thinking about and acting on a certain message. Description of
Theory The Elaboration Likelihood Theory describes a person s likelihood of critically evaluating
a message s arguments and evidence. This theory has four major variables that help predict this
likelihood, the first one being motivation. Motivation asks a very simple yet important question: Is
the message relevant? (Dainton, M., Zelley,

  • 2. I Hear America Singing Comparison Nationalism is defined as a patriotic feeling, principle, or effort. In many countries, common workers display a sense of pride in their country through their manual labor. In Chicago by Carl Sandburg and I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman, parallel structure is employed to establish the connection between grit and spirit in order to convey a tone of pride within the American worker. Initially, both poems employ parallel structure to culminate a nationalistic spirit and grit within the American worker. For example, in Chicago the city under the terrible burden of destiny laughs as a young man laughs ; similarly in I Hear America Singing the boatman sings, what belongs to him on his boat . Here, displays of undying strength while facing an obstacle as well as displays of personalization during work create a gritty nature within the individual laborer. Moreover, in Chicago a worker is described with dust all over his mouth albeit still laughing with white teeth and in I Hear America Singing each worker... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, in Chicago , the narrator describes the city as wicked , crooked , and brutal while in I Hear America Singing young fellows are described as robust and friendly . By utilizing contradicting terminology between poems to describe the city of Chicago versus American workers, a false front of contentment is exposed. Moreover, in the poem Chicago , the city is described as stormy, husky, and brawling while in I Hear America Singing workers sing strong melodious songs . Here, by utilizing words with contrasting connotations, pride in one s own nationalistic union derives from an individual s ability to work past obstacles. Furthermore, Whitman and Sandburg use diction to create a tone of pride within the idea of nationalism that curates a faГ§ade in order to disguise the reality in upholding ... • 3. Environmental School of Thought Essay According to Mintzberg, the environmental school of thought is a strategy dealing with the forces outside the organization. Unlike the other schools in his book, Strategy Safari, the environment plays a central role in the strategy formation process alongside leadership and the organization where the organization becomes subordinate to the external environment. The environmental school assumptions are that during the formative period of the organization the company shapes itself in response to the environment, but after that period is increasingly unable to respond to the environment. Moreover, the organization long term survival depends on the early choices made during its formative period. Over time, Mintzberg states, leadership becomes... Hostility is influenced by competition, by the organization s relationships with unions, government, and other outside groups as well as by the availability of resources to it. The contingency theory figured out a set of responses to the four dimensions mostly about structure and later about strategy. The second view in the environmental school of thought is the Population Ecology view. Followers of this view believe that the basic structure and character of an organization is fixed shortly after its creation where early action of managers in areas of investments, equipment, and personnel create passivity for future actions. The theory is viewing the organizations in terms of their collective behavior but the organizations individual survival depends on their ability to acquire an adequate supply and resources. According to the population ecology view, each environment has a finite amount of resources which they refers to as fixed carrying capacity where in a rapidly growing new industry, carrying capacity might support most existing organizations but already in the maturity stage, the carrying capacity may decline and the demand for products will decreases. In such cases, organizations should hold resources in reserve for future emergencies. The third view dealing with the environment is the institutional view which refers to the pressures an organization faces in its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Should Politicians Continue To Blame High Gas Prices The government often times will play the blame game when things are not going according to plan, or more importantly, according to the government s plan. Since the summer of 2008 when gas prices reaches a record high or $4.12 a gallon the we ve loved to blame the oil companies and the government for the increasing prices of gasoline. Who is responsible for high gas prices? Oil production dropped during the Bush administration but has risen by about 20% during Obama s presidency, making it clear that domestic oil production has little effect of the priceof gasoline. Why then to politicians continue to blame high gasoline prices on the oil companies? Congress has restricted the building of oil refineries and the drilling of oil in Alaska offshore for over 15 years. These restrictions have greatly reduced the supply of domestic oil. The... These type taxes are primarily imposed on companies in the targeted business that have advanced the most from economic windfall, or product based businesses. Flight Risk Models The flight risk model is used to predict a turnover rate and prevent an employee from leaving before it happens. These models takes to account the employee s age and tenure, marital status, the criticality of his or her job role, linkages to other flight risk employees, changes in benefit related issues, and seasonality. (Organizational Behavior, 2013, p. 62) As ATK have used several flight risk models to stop the most serious form of physical withdrawal, quitting, the one factor that I feel is most important is being able to prepare for a life situation that can cause a turnover to happen. For example, boosting the employee s commitment can prevent quitting from happening. This can be done by creating affective commitment, continuance commitment, normative commitment and focus of commitment which gives reasons for employees to stay within the company. I feel that the least important is the workforce metrics because this doesn t really contribute to the employees within the organizations. As an employee, acknowledgement and rewards are important factors to keep an employee within the company. Turnover rate can be essentially high if management fails to recognize this. Manage issues with turn over Turnover for NASA or ATK employees are well aware from the ending of the space shuttle program . This gives management time to look into prevention, as well as preparing for turnover. Data gather for the prediction of the turnover can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Essay On Exotic Animals People Shouldn t Be Able To Have Exotic Animals There are many exotic animals all over the world that live in the wild. There are many species and some are extinct. Exotic animals are very expensive that require more than what people realize. These animals belong in their natural habitats. It is wrong and cruel for the animals that have to live in captivity when they are meant to live in the wild. Taking exotic animals out of the wild disrupts the natural food chain and negatively affects natural selection. Exotic animals belong in the wild because the reason they are exotic is because they cannot be tamed like any other pet, and if they can t be tamed, they can become a harm to the owner and to others that the animal feel threatened by. Injury and possibly death is likely to happen under such circumstances of the animals being neglected. Another reason why I believe that exotic animals do not belong under human captivity as pets is because it is harmful to the pets and the nature of them. Some animals need their families to survive and they also need to learn to hunt in order for them to survive. Once an exotic animal becomes the pet of someone, it becomes dependent which is unhealthy for the animal, especially if they are brought under captivity at such an early age. Owning exotic animals as keeping them as pets should be illegal is what I believe is right. Exotic animals kept as house pets are a hazard to the pet owners and any other people around the ... • 11. Catch-22 and the Theme of Death Catch 22 and the Theme of Death There are many ways for a man to die, but there is no way to bring him back after he has entered the world of dead. Catch 22 is a novel satirizing war, and because of this, it inevitably has a strong underlying theme of death. But unlike many war novels, Catch 22 doesn t use violent depictions of fighting or bloody death scenes to denounce the evils of war; it utilizes humor and irony to make an arguably more effective point. And even more importantly, Catch 22 is ultimately a novel about hope, not death. Although the inevitability of death is still a prominent motif, it eventually leads the main character, Yossarian, to realize that the desire to live is important and also that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yossarian s most startling glimpse into the terrors of war and death comes when he spends a night alone on the streets of Rome. He sees homeless children; he witnesses men beating children and dogs, a rape, and a convulsing soldier; he walks over a street littered with broken human teeth. This is one of the rare sections of the novel that does not use humor to point out the cruelty and inhumanity of the world. The scene comes to a climax when Yossarian returns to his apartment and discovers that Aarfy has raped an innocent maid and then thrown her out his window, leaving her dead on the sidewalk below. Then, ironically, Yossarian is arrested for being in Rome without a pass and Aarfy is given an apology for the disturbance, his hideous crime going unpunished. This chapter is when Yossarian begins to really recognize the true face of the military and the meaning of Catch 22; when he goes to the brothel and the old woman tells him that the girls have all been kicked out of their home by soldiers, she explains to him that Catch 22 says they have a right to do anything we can t stop them from doing (417;Ch.39). Catch 22 is the justification for every wrong the military commits, and it overrides every other moral law. The horrors that the military creates will never stop, and Yossarian begins to realize that he cannot fight and die ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Time Capsules from the Renaissance and Baroque Time... Two time capsules were found during renovations of the Basilica of San Lorenzo, Florence. One time capsule dates back to the Renaissance time period. Artifacts in this time capsule included a painting of The Birth of Venus, a lute, drawing of the Florence Cathedral s dome, and a book called The Decameron. The second time capsule had artifacts from the Baroque time period. Artifacts in this time capsule included a painting of The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp, a stage painting in an opera house, canvas painting of St. Petersburg, and a play called Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme These artifacts give us a glimpse of world events, and cultural patterns in the Renaissanceand Baroque time period. Once unrolled, a beautiful drawing on canvas of the Florence Cathedral s dome was revealed. The dome was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, drawn in 1420. This dome was the largest ever built in history in this era. Flippo Brunelleschi used new methods of hoisting stone and masonry technique to construct the dome (Fiero, 2011). The Florence Cathedral highly reflects the Architectural development of the early Renaissance period. It also reflects how devoted Rome was to their religion, and how religion influenced the Romans to build magnificent architecture for a place to worship. A book lay at the bottom of the renaissance time capsule called The Decameron, by Giovanni Boccaccio. This book has 100 tales about seven young women and three young men who took shelter in a secluded villa in Florence, to escape the Black Death plague. This book shows the social class difference that was taking place during this time period within the culture. The book also goes into detail of what took place during the pandemic and the horrors people were faced with. This book is also a product of the printing press made in 1450. This allowed documentation, information, and books such as The Decameron, to be printed and passed around the world. As the second time capsule is open the artifacts inside are from the ... • 13. Frederick Douglass A Long Road To Freedom Analysis A Long Road to Freedom It s easy to boil down Frederick Douglas desire to escape slavery by saying that slavery was evil and inhumane. In fact, this narrative is used as the underlying motivation of most, if not all, slaves whose lives and journeys towards freedom. However, settling on this idea has two potentially disastrous outcomes. A best, it lessens the role that slave owners held in this harsh climate. A worst, it erases the inhumanities on both sides of the slave issue entirely. Yes, the desire for freedom is certainly a part of Douglas , and countless other slaves , dangerous yearning for life outside of abusive homes and brutal plantations, but it absolutely wasn t the only one. We re told that slave owners separate babies from their mothers after twelve months, presumably after the baby can derive nourishment from things other than their mother s milk. The owners see this as a custom in the Maryland area, Douglas says. Slave babies were then given to older women while the mothers were shuttled off the other plantations. This blatant violation of human rights wasn t seen as an issue, and only served to dishearten slaves by depriving them of a meaningful connection with their mother. Despite his mother s secret midnight trips to visit him, young Douglas was unable to form any emotional ties to her, and likened his reaction to her death as though she were just a stranger. Even as a child, slavery was able to strip him of an important part of his humanity. It wasn t just him who had these issues, either. Hatred can be defined as deep feeling of resentment or anger toward another person, group, or thing. It has caused violent acts of anger and rage. Hate crimes are crimes that are motivated by racial, sexual, or other prejudice, typically one involving violence (Oxford Dictionary). An example of a hate crimeis the murder of an African American man, by a group of white men, in Mississippi. This crime carries several characteristics of hate crime, and supports the Social Dominance Theory. The first characteristic that this hate crime exhibited is that the haters took time to go look for an African American to victimize in an unfamiliar area. A group of white men, who disliked black people, went to a party in Puckett. There they discussed going to Mississippi capital to find African Americans to harass. The men went to Mississippi, and bullied unknown black men and women during the night. The white driver, Deryl Dedmon, drove over a black man named James Craig Anderson with his vehicle, killing him. This discouraged Catholics from moving there. This would cause them to move elsewhere where there was less prejudice and they could start building foundations. However this had a dreadful affect on the housing and living conditions. In some cases, Catholic families were bunched up, 3 families to a house. Following a massive slum clearance effort in the post war years, when N. • 17. Aboriginal Australia as a Dream Culture To better understand Aboriginals as a Dream Culture I want to give more insight into Aboriginal Australians general culture and their conceptions of Dream Time. In his discussion of religion, Mircea Eliade describes a concept of Cosmos vs Chaos (Eliade 1957). In this notion an unordered world is chaotic only until is it transposed during a sacred time: By occupying it and, above all, by settling in it, man symbolically transforms it into a cosmos though a ritual repetition of the cosmogony (Eliade 1957:31). In other words until a land is tamed or created it is considered unordered. This can be applied to Aboriginal s understanding of the world prior to their current presence. Aboriginals believe that in a time before the Dreamings, the land and world was a featureless earth. It was not until the dreamtime, or time of creation: where there is contact with appearances from both realms of inside the earth itself as from ill defined upper region that the earth began to have its composed landscapes (Cowan 1992:26). The Dream Time is not only a period but more of a dimension where ancestral beings moved across the earth and created not only land, but every aspect of the earth including animals, plants, and man. It is important to realize that the ancestors created the natural earth and that is why Aboriginals live a particular lifestyle. Most Aboriginals living in this cosmogony are hunter gatherer tribes. This aspect of their life can be traced to stem from the idea of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I understand that music is hard to make a living off of because its hard enough to just pay for the things your band needs and that record labels lose a lot of money in trying to finance an album that has such a high chance of failure. But major Record labels are creating a monopoly of the music industry which limits the innovation and advancement other minor labels or musicians could provide by taking away competition. The market is dominated by the Big Three (Sony, Warner Music Group, and Universal Music Group) who continuously buy out competition and all have many smaller companies who have front names to cover up the fact that they are owned by the larger corporation. Ten years ago there were five major companies that controlled the market place, in the beginning of 2005 Sony and BMG, Bertelsmann Music Group, decided to form a 50/50 partnership that would spread worldwide. Each, in its own way, contributes to an overall situations or threats that affect both the environment and human life. Sometimes a fifth category is included, mechanical, which include energy plants, factories, etc. Chemical Hazards Chemicals are both naturally occurring and man made. From the environment, exposure to chemical agents in our air, water, food and soil, have shown to be hazardous to human health causing cancer and lung disease, metabolic issues, brain damage, and even birth defects. Essentially, these chemicals act as toxins and poisoning, also playing a role in infectious diseases and causing the body s immune system to break down. The World Health Organization, for instance, believes that billions of people are exposed to chemical hazards on a regular basis (solvents, acids, pesticides, etc.), but at different levels and differing levels of toxicity and over differing periods of time. The exposure rate, especially from heavy metals and agricultural waste and products, seem to be the most serious over time, but even such products as led and arsenic can cause cancers that are serious and attributable to environmental standards (World Research Institute, 2000). The Crucible is mainly about how Abigail accuses many innocent people in Salem of witchcraft and working for the devil. Miller, the author of The Crucible is trying to convey the message that in times of chaos, people may be blinded from the truth, making the truth indistinguishable the from the many lies. The events that take place in the play The Crucible are comparable to the events of Rosa ParksBus Boycott, because both events depict how power is gained through the course of your actions. One cold evening in the December of 1995, Rosa Parks refused to give her seat up to a white male on her bus ride back from work. Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat led to her getting arrested by James Blake, a white man who demanded that her along with 3 other black women move from that area. Moreover, through God s covenant with him his numerous descendants inherited Palestine and from them came Messiah, the blessing to all peoples on earth. Understanding the culture of Ur of the Chaldeans, Abram s place of origin, requires a determination of where this area was located and analyzing archaeological discoveries of that area in conjunction with other disciplines of biblical study. About 1800 B.C. Abram s father, Terah, took his family and left Ur for Canaan but settled in Haran where Terah died. Haran was located in the southern part of modern day Turkey. After his father s death, Abram was called by God to continue his journey to the land of Canaan and he was called from, Ur of the Chaldeans. Abraham s call from this pagan culture further affirms that God is both merciful and gracious as well as sovereign over the affairs of mankind. Ur of the Chaldeans is the first reference to the city in the biblical narrative with regards to Abram s city of origin. Abram s brother, Haran, died in Ur before Terah, Abram s and Haran s father, took the family to the city of Haran, a well known stop along trade routes in Mesopotamia. The courageous story of the landing at Gallipoli and the ANZACS are still remembered today. Memorial facilities and services are held at sunrise on 25 April, the time of the original landing, across the nation, usually at war memorials. This was started by returned soldiers after the First World War in the 1920s as a common form of commemoration. The initial official dawn service was held at the Sydney Cenotaph in 1927. It was the first year that all states acknowledged a public holiday. • 31. Essay on Benny Goodman, King of Swing Benjamin David Goodman was born in Chicago on May 30, 1909, the ninth of twelve children born to David and Dora Goodman, who both emigrated from Russia but met in America. David Goodman eked out a minimal living for his family by working for a tailor in a sweatshop. To help alleviate the family s poverty, the children were urged to work as soon as they were old enough. For entertainment, David would take his youngest children to Douglas Park on Sundays to hear free band concerts. It was here that he first heard of the Kehelah Jacob band. In 1923, at the age of 14, Benny Goodman left school to play with local bands, including Bill Grimm s riverboat orchestra with Bix Beiderbecke. There is an interesting anecdote about Benny s first meeting with Bix. One day, Benny received an emergency call from Grimm, asking him to fill in for Grimm s clarinetist, who was ill. Benny arrived early in the day at the dock where the boat on which he was to perform was moored. Benny stepped onto the bandstand and immediately heard a shout to get off there, kid! Stop that fooling around! (Benny Goodman, 1979) Benny turned to see a fellow about four or five years older, holding a trumpet and staring disdainfully at Benny. That fellow, Bix Beiderbecke, did not want to hear any explanations from this young kid in knickers. However, Bill Grimm arrived before any trouble could start and introduced the boys. The young men hit it off and much fun and great music stemmed from that first session together. At that same time, Benny and his high school friends had earned the nickname, The Wild West Side Mob , not for their behavior, but because of their free, ragged, style of jazz. While this style made them great jam session musicians, it made it difficult for them to find work. Hot jazz was not in demand. As from the detailed summary before, there were crucial parts of the myth that are necessary in order for the myth to flow easily. There have been a few adaptations of the myth throughout the years. More recently, in the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, a couple book and movie adaptations have been created. In 1867, The Life and Death of Jason written by British writer William Morris has many of the key aspects of the myth in his book. There are only a small number of differences in the two. One difference is the reason for Heracles disappearance. Morris most likely kept the same details as the myth, but added some of his personal touch to it to appeal to his readers (Lieberman). Another adaptation of the myth is the first movie adaptation called Jason and the Argonauts, made in 1963. The same relative story is found in the movie, but some details were changed. In the movie, Jason meets Pelias by saving him in the river as he was drowning. In the process, Jason loses a sandal. Forming is the first stage where people join together for a reason. Our group formed because this class put us together, which was mainly based on the need to fulfill the goal of passing Small Group Communication and doing a service project together. This happened when we filled out the sheets about our skills and whom we would and would not like to work with. We were then all introduced to our new groups in class. Stage two was next for us. This stage is called storming. This is the tension felt in the group. It is fine for a group to have tension as long as it is a healthy balance of helpful and unhelpful tension. There are two different types. The first is primary tension, which is what a group feels when they first meet. That tension usually goes away over time as the group finds a sense of cohesiveness. There is also secondary tension, which consists of the stress and strain of dealing with deadlines, conflicts, and scheduling issues. Our group honestly had a very healthy balance of tension. We all got along from the very first time we met. I even remember us all saying how happy we were that we ended up in The Avengers. This continued on even with deadlines, conflicts, and schedules. And this evil desire approaches both characters in the form of a serpent. Following Lady Macbeth s unsexing , the most descriptive use of serpentine imagery is revealed. Lady Macbeth persuades Macbeth to kill Duncan. By doing so, she uses a metaphor of a snake to portray the Macbeth s future evil actions. Caesar also earned the support of the prosperous equites by obtaining a reduction for them in their duty deals in Asia. This made him the guiding ability in a coalition between people and plutocrats. He was assigned the rule of Cisalpine and Transalpine Gaul and Illyricum with four legions for five years (58 B.C. 54 B.C.). The dissimilarities between Pompey and Crassus grew, and Caesar again transferred (56 B.C.) to patch up things, coming to an arrangement that both Pompey and Crassus should be consuls in 55 B.C. which their proconsular provinces should be Syria and Spain, respectively. • 51. Essay on Solving the Foreclosure Crisis The frequency of foreclosure in our nation today is dangerously high. The strain from the recent economic downturn has put many families and individuals in a financial chokehold preventing them from being able to make their monthly mortgage payments. Consequently, many of these people feel they ve punched a one way ticket to foreclosure. With all these homes being foreclosed on, we face a very real crisis. The best way to solve this foreclosure crisis is preventing homes from foreclosing one house at a time. The American family needs a simple option to save their home. My solution is based upon the concept of the homeowner paying what they are capable today, with a long term solution for the homeowner to repay the entire debt eventually. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The simple solution is to reduce the home owner s monthly payment to an amount they can afford, by reducing the size of the loan balance. The framework would be as follows: Government stimulus funds are applied to pay down the owner s home loan to the bank with two caveats. First, the bank must re amortize the payments on the lower loan amount; second, the government funds become a filed lien (second mortgage) on the home. This is a RELIEF loan. 1.This program is open to every low, moderate, and high income family 2.All participants must file a full tax return each year 3.The amount of the government RELIEF loan cannot exceed 40% of the home s tax assessed value , or $100,000 maximum 4.Government loans are repaid through the following: Apply IRS refunds to the balance Allow 401K withdrawals without penalties to be applied to the balance Apply a set percentage of federal entitlement money to the balance (Possibly 15%) Apply proceeds from the future sale of the home to the balance (Any remaining balance becomes an unsecured loan) 5.The RELIEF loan is interest free for first five years. The interest rate for the remaining years will be nominal (Possibly 2%) EXAMPLE Take a typical family of five that purchased their house in 2007 at the median house price in Portland, OR of $295,200. With a typical home loan of 6% interest rate over 30 years, they are making monthly principal and interest payments of $1681. After two years, they now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Feminism in The Wizard of Oz The Wizard of Oz Film and Book Background The Wizard of Oz is a book by L. Frank Baum written in 1900 and adapted into a musical fantasy in 1939. It starred a young Judy Garland, and was notable because of its use of special effects, color, unusual characters, and a fantasy storyline made into a major motion picture. It has become almost iconoclastic in film history, shown regularly on network television and becoming a part of American cultural history. The song Somewhere Over the Rainbow, won an Oscar for best song, and has been recorded by hundreds of artists. In fact, for numerous critics, the movie is ranked among the top 10 movies of all times, and the Library of Congress names it the most watched film in history (The Wizard of Oz, 2010; Baum, 1956). Most people are more familiar with the movie rather than the series of Baum s books. As a film, we must remember that color cinematography was in its infancy in Hollywood. In fact, Hal Rosson won an award for cinematography. Taken in context, the lushness and color saturated feel he gave to the film enhances the idea that we re not in Kansas anymore. Some of the props and glitter may look at tad campy to a modern audience, but looking at the film in historical context allows one to be transported into Oz, a magical place of new colors, shapes, and textures done in such a realistic manner that it cannot help but improve the imaginative experience for the audience. In a similar manner, the mise en scene, or the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Why Do You Do Not Your Favorite Tv Show And During The... Introduction Scenario: you are watching your favorite TV show and during the commercial break an advertisement comes on for a brand new device that potty trains puppies. If you have a puppy and understand how wild and untamed they are, this offer would not only seem heaven sent, but interest you, making you more likely to think deeply about whether or not to buy the product. However, if you do not own a puppy, you would quickly lose interest in the commercial and it is extremely unlikely that you would give it much thought after the commercial is over. Why is it that things that peak our interest are more likely to stimulate our deep thoughts while things that are less relevant to us do not? The Elaboration Likelihood Theory explains just that. It analyzes how variables such as motivation, processing, ability, and persuasion play a role in how much thought we give to a certain message. From the puppy commercial, to major things such as the digitization of health records and the upcoming presidential election, the Elaboration Likelihood Theory explains our likelihood of thinking about and acting on a certain message. Description of Theory The Elaboration Likelihood Theory describes a person s likelihood of critically evaluating a message s arguments and evidence. This theory has four major variables that help predict this likelihood, the first one being motivation. Motivation asks a very simple yet important question: Is the message relevant?
