Crystallization Of Sulfanilamide Lab Report
Introduction
Crystallization is a technique that has been utilized as a part of the purification of substances. As
often as possible, when a solid substance (single compound) is dissolved in a solvent, it dissolves.
After adding a greater amount of the solid, a point in the long run is come to past which no further
solid dissolves, and the solution is said to be saturated with the solid compound. The concentration
of the saturated solution is influenced by the temperature, by and large a higher temperature
bringing about a higher concentration.
These events can be utilized as a methods for affecting separation and purification. In this way, if a
saturated solution at some temperature is cooled, the dissolved segment starts to isolate from ...

Before heating the flask containing the sulfanilamide, enough solvent was added with a Pasteur
pipette to barely cover the crystals.
2.Heated the flask again until the solvent boils.
3.Small portion of the solvent were added and continued to heat the flask and swirled it frequently.
4.The flask was swirled for 10 15 seconds and checked if the solid dissolved. If not another portion
of the solvent was added.
5.Heated the flask again with swirling until the solvent boils.
6.Then swirled the flask for 10 15 seconds, frequently returning the flask to the hot plate so that the
temperature of the mixture does not drop.
7.Continued the process of adding solvent, heating and swirling until all the solid had dissolved

8.It was ensured that the solvent was not little or excess and the process was performed rapidly
because 95% ethyl alcohol is very volatile. Also the time for the first addition of the solvent until it

Embalming In American Culture
The term embalming is a familiar one in today s society; however, many people are unaware of
what happens during its process. Depending upon the family s wishes, a body may or may not be
embalmed. Culture can also play a part in making that decision. Embalming is a simple process
with rich history that does wonders for a body and families.
The history of embalming goes all the way back to the Civil War. Those who were left needed an
efficient way to take care of the fallen bodies. Dr. Thomas Holmes was the first person to practice
the French s embalming techniques in America. Since families wanted to bring their loved ones
bodies home, this preservation tactic proved worthy. Eventually, many soldiers pre paid to be
embalmed in the course ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some families want to see their loved one for the last time as if they are sleeping. Embalming
makes this possible. The chemicals give the skin a natural color, along with makeup and other
fixings (Godfrey). For many families, this last memory of their loved one is very important
(Embalming).
In rare circumstances, various cultures do not embalm the dead. Islamic and Jewish cultures
refuse to embalm the deceased. It is seen as disrespectful to the body. Bodies are buried within 24
48 hours of their deaths. Hindus do not bury the dead at all; rather, they are burned. Catholicism
requires that a body is buried as soon as arrangements are made. Due to these speedy burials and
requirements, embalming is not necessary here. In fact, embalming is looked down upon in these
cultures (Gray).
Despite common beliefs, embalming is a short process. There are two main parts: internal and
external. First, the blood and other bodily fluids are replaced with embalming fluid. To do this, a
small incision is made to the neck and the two veins are brought up. The body cavity is
punctured and cured as well. Once the inside of the body is completely embalmed, the focus
returns to the external parts. The jaw is shut, the eyes are fixed, and any work to rebuild the face
is done. Then makeup is applied. The hair styling is left up to the cosmetologist in most cases (The

Alan Turing s Impact On Modern Day World
Life of Imitation Father of Artificial Intelligence, inventor, Enigma breaker, war hero. The life
of mathematician Alan Turing is one of extreme feats and tragedy. Even from a young age,
Turing was misunderstood and unappreciated, and this became a common theme all the way to
his death at the young age of 41. Alan Turing envisions a digital world centuries ahead of his
time. Everything he did still has a major impact on our modern day world. Yet his impact is still
unrecognized. Alan Mathison Turing was born on June 23, 1912 in Maida Vale, London. Even
from a young age Turing showed signs of a genius, so his parents father Julius Mathison Turing
(1873 1947) and mother Ethel Sara Stoney (1881 1976) enrolled him to St. Michael s Starting
School at the age of six. His teachers noticed his intellect early on, but didn t necessarily appreciate
it. At the age of 13 he attended an independent school in Sherborne, Dorset. Unfortunately the first

There he earned his honors in Mathematics. In 1935 he was elected a fellow of the college by
proving the Central Limit Theorem. In 1936, Turing reformulated Kurt Gödel s results on the
limits of proof and computation. He replaced Gödel s complex formulations with simple
hypothetical devices known to be as Turing Machines. This was all published in his paper called:
On Computable Numbers, with an Application to the Entscheidungsproblem (1936). Turing proved
that a theoretical universal machine, later to be known as the Universal Turing Machine , would be
capable of performing any mathematical computation if it were given an algorithm. To this day,
Turing machines are a central subject of study. September of 1936, Turing attended Princeton

Essay on Imperialism and Colonialism in ShakespeareВґs The...
The Tempest was Shakespeare s last play that was written shortly after England colonized Virginia
in 1609. Throughout the play, there are many different references to imperialism and colonialism
within the characters. The Tempest analyzes the imperialistic relationships between England and
America but applies it to personal human interaction between the central characters. The island
gives newcomers a sense of endless possibilities like claiming the land for themselves because of
the belief in the Great Chain of Being and the seventeenth century being an age of exploration.
The idea of ruling a colony lured many people into the idea that having that kind of power over a

Caliban, Prospero s slave and the first inhabitant on the island professes that he used to be his
own king (l.ii.344 345). Gonzalo also has a moment where he imagines his own utopian society
on the island (11.i.148 156). Stephano has his own vision of what he wants too, Monster, I will
kill this man. His daughter and I will be King and Queen.. And Trinculo and thyself shall be my
viceroys (iii.ii.101 103). Prospero, the main character, has a similar mindset to a colonist
because although he ended up on the island accidentally, he still acts as superior to the
inhabitants and he sees the island as something he can make profit from. Prospero probably
wouldn t fit the title of an imperialist invader because he came to the island as a fugitive and did
not necessarily start a war with the inhabitants. Nonetheless he wants to restore his dukedom by
manipulating people around him. He does this to his daughter Miranda by keeping her naive
and innocent. He also conjures up Ferdinand, who becomes Miranda s love interest, and then
proceeds to enslave him also. Prospero uses Ariel to carry out most of his plans by convincing
Ariel he will soon be free if he keeps obeying Prospero with willingness and enthusiasm. Prospero
uses mostly guilt and fear to keep his slaves along side with him. He threatens Caliban in Act 1

Being silenced is the basic of the story that keeps it moving along with the social and gender
issues that impact violence of patriarchal domination and women being submissive. This essay

The Apparatus of Violence in the Jim Crow Machine Gabrielle Hatch
The Apparatus of Violence in the Jim Crow Machine
The rise of Jim Crow, a system of sustainable racial inequality, had a significant scope on racial
relations for subsequent years to come. Jim Crow laws and its prescribed etiquette operated and
represented the legitimization of anti blackness primarily but not exclusively in southern states of
the United States. Scholarship has justifiably surveyed these codes of conduct with stressing
African American disenfranchisement. However, violence has been presumed as a byproduct of the
Jim Crow system, rather than a mechanism that was used to undergird Jim Crow s place in
America s society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The extra legal nature of executions in colonial times met the public s desire for an active role in
society and for the conservation of values. As societies modernized, the culture of execution being
a public communal event dissipated (Pfeifer). It wasn t until racial slavery positioned Black people
on the outskirts of normal law and legitimized extra legal violence, that a re emergence of
collective and communal violence occurred. The conditions of slavery allowed the United States,
particularly the southern colonies, to revisit collective violence. Furthermore, it made necessary an
imposed draconian regime of punishment. Colonies adopted a separate penal code and fixed
slavery as permanent (Berg). In the criminal justice arena, the slave codes could not be restricted
by traditional English law. It was a loophole to creating a private violence that Whites could inflict
on Blacks.
Colonial slavery contributed to the later rise of lynching. For one, the nature of slavery positioned
African Americans as objects of hyper violence that was recognized under law. Furthermore, it
designated the responsibility of subordinating slaves as a collective effort from the community. It
rendered Whites as the overseers or the community hegemon above slaves. Lastly, once slavery was
abolished, Whites could not be permitted to use violence against Blacks. This resulted in Whites
swearing to uphold the duty of maintaining White superiority by all means necessary.

A Comparison Of Jack The Ripper And Lizzie Borden
Paden Schmitt
Mrs. Burrow

Jack the Ripper and Lizzie Borden
Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks, when she saw what she had done
she gave her father forty one. Jack the Ripper and the Lizzie Borden Murders were both violent
crimes that impacted the world during the late 1800s. Jack the Ripper was a serial killer who was
never found. Lizzie Borden had her parents murdered and most people believe she did it but was
never accused of the murders. They both are unsolved cases that people still talk about today.
Jack the Ripper was a serial killer in the United Kingdom in 1888. Why is Jack the Ripper so
famous? He was essentially a media star. He is believed to only have 11 victims but, the media
is what made him famous throughout England. All of his victims were alcoholics who turned to
prostitution, says Thomas K. Grose from Time Magazine. Also, the area where Jack the Ripper
killed all his victims was well known. It was known as a hotbed of vice and villainy, and a
breeding ground for social unrest. Jack the Ripper was never found and over the course of these
many years there have been hundreds of suspects but nobody has been brought to justice.
The worst thing about Jack the Ripper is the way that he murdered his victims. It was not just a
quick stab or a bullet, but sheer violence. He ripped them to pieces. Most of his victims weren t
recognizable after he was done with them. That is how he got his name, Jack the Ripper.

English As A Second Or Foreign Language Essay
As the world s economy globalizes, English becomes the first priority language among the foreign
languages in most non English speaking countries, including China. In China, there is a boost of
English learning and teaching (Sun, 2013). More and more Chinese people learn English as a
second or foreign language. However, according to a survey of China s language situation that was
conducted in 2006, only 1.8% of English learners in China claimed to be able to act as interpreters
on formal occasions, 3.53% to converse quite fluently, 15.61% to conduct daily conversations (Wei
Su, 2012). This indicated that only a few English learners in China can speak English fluently and
that many English learners do not have the ability to engage in daily interactions. The education in
China is exam oriented, but most of the tests emphasize testing students mastery of the reading and
language forms while overlooking assessing students speaking abilities (Wei, 2012). And teachers
tend to give students practices of the knowledge that are to be tested in the exams. Therefore, many
English teachers in China tend to ignore English speaking and they give few opportunities for their
students to practice their speaking abilities (Wang, 2014). In China, English language teaching still
focuses heavily on language knowledge, not language skills, with the former being defined in terms
of grammar and vocabulary and being taught predominantly in the mother tongue and through
textbook material and

How To Write An Essay On The Play Bat Boy
For the production of Bat Boy, there were many tasks to be performed. Like usual there were the
actors, the running crew, and the musicians. For this particular musical, the running crew had
many different parts. The carpentry crew, which I was a part of, had a variety of jobs for the
show. We were in charge of the fly system and for moving various portions of the set. For the fly
system, there were four ropes and a travelersystem set up. Three of the ropes were used for the
opening scene where the Taylor children would come in on their harnesses in the cave. Before the
curtain would open we would fly them to the top, then as the curtain was opened we would fly
them down to the ground. Each ropehad at least two people, if not more. The other rope was used

A lot of the learning had to do with synchronization. Working on a production of that size, it is a
necessity that everyone learns to work as a team. With an enormous cast and crew, and a set
with many pieces, we all had to work in a way so that we could all do our jobs without
interrupting others. The scenes in which we had to fly Bat Boy were the hardest because we
had to get timing right for everything, as well as the fluidity of the pull. The scene where he
flies out had to be a smooth movement. If it was choppy it wouldn t have looked right. Jumping
off the acting block and pulling the rope with others took plenty of practice as well. For every
fly scene, no matter how much practice we got, there would always be a point where we could
end up grabbing each others hands while we were pulling on the rope. While this could have
been a problem, we learned that we needed to just keep going with pulling the rope. Teamwork
wise, the slaughterhouse wall and door were also something that took a lot of practice. Despite the
challenges we faced while working on this production, we were able to overcome them and put on

Essay On White Mock Jurors
Using Meissner and Kassin s (2002) terminology, the current study expects that white mock jurors
will demonstrate higher rates of false alarms, or false positives, when evaluating confessions of
African American suspects. Also, similar to the same race leniency effect found by Sommers and
Ellsworth (2000), it is expected that African Americanmock jurors will demonstrate attributing more
false confessions to same raceconfessors than other race confessors. The current study integrates
past research and theory on racial bias in juror decision making, positing that White mock jurors
will demonstrate higher rates of false alarms in cases involving African American suspects. In other
words, White jurors will be biased towards believing that African American suspects are guilty, thus
assuming the stereotype of minority criminality. This hypothesis was formed based on prior
research indicating the presence of White juror biases against Black defendants, and in group/out
group racial biases (Sommers Ellsworth,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This anticipated effect is explicated by the own race versus other race effect, which has been
adapted from theories of eyewitness misidentification. An investigation into exonerations found that
eyewitness misidentification is the leading factor related to wrongful convictions (Gross Shaffer,
2012). The majority of these cases involve white female victims who misidentify their African
American male attacker, leading to an innocent man s wrongful conviction. A number of
psychological theories have surfaced to explain this error in judgment, one of which is called the
other race effect, which states that individuals are more likely to make mistakes when identifying a
suspect belonging to their perceived out group, or the other race, versus when identifying someone
belonging to their own race (Wells Olson,

Diagnosis And Treatment Of Prostate Cancer
When we have diseases or don t feel well, we tend to seek treatments and try to cure it as soon as
possible. However, what if there is no reliable treatment or nearly no treatment available? Then,
the only option is to do research. Life can be really difficult and no one wants any sickness or
diagnosed with such a hard to cure disease like cancer. Prostate Canceris a known cancer that
happens to men only and a lot of men in the U.S are diagnosed with it, and happens to male s
reproductive system. Specifically speaking, it is a gland found in the most private area of a man.
In the following paragraphs, I will be explaining why we need to find a way to combat prostate
cancer, how to detect this cancer at early stages, and the risks associated with prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death by cancer for men in the U.S. It mostly
affects African American men than men of other races. In addition, those men who suffer from
prostate cancer would not know that they are affected until they participate in a health checkup
or conduct self diagnoses. A healthy prostate gland should be about the size of a walnut or
smaller depend on individuals. According, to a cancer research center stated about why men are
more likely to get cancer ... men were more likely to die from any of the cancers investigated in the
report, and ... were also more likely to develop the disease in the first place (Arney, 2009). Also,

Health Plan For A Healthy Lifestyle
Throughout the past two years of health class, I have learned that a healthy lifestyle is the key to
living a long life. Although the class focuses on general ideas, it s still teaches that each individual
student should have a different health plan, as they each come from different backgrounds. One s
healthplan would be based off their family history with injury, illness, and disease. When creating
my health plan, I took into consideration how my grandmother (on my mother s side) died of breast
cancer, my grandfather (on my mother s side) has developed Huntington s disease, and my
grandfather (on my father s side) had Parkinson s disease. To reduce the chances of developing any
of these diseases, I must take into consideration different healthcare options, nutritionplans, physical
activity regimens, stress factors, environmental factors, and be aware of what I use as a consumer.
It is estimated that about 12% of women will develop breast cancer at some point in their life.
Your chances of this are even more increased if a family member has been diagnosed with the
disease. So, if someone in your family has had the cancer, it is recommended you live a cautious
lifestyle. This is how I will have to live, as my grandmother died of breast cancer. She was
diagnosed twice, after thinking she had beaten the cancer once. The second time it developed, it
metastasized into her lymph nodes, killing her. To avoid the same fate, I will have to make sure to

Face Uniform Gyrus Face Recognition Study
A group of scientists at the Stanford University School of Medicine in the United States discovered
that the region of the brain responsible for face recognition grows in children and adults. The
discovery surprised scientists because it was widely believed that brain development didn t involve
tissue growth in adulthood, but rather neuroplasticity. Until now, it was thought that brain
development occurred exclusively through a process called synaptic pruning a mechanism of
destruction of the synapses (connections between the neurons) that are rarely used, opening the
way for the development of stronger and more effective synapses.
A growing fusiform gyrus
This is the first time that research has found evidence that tissue in this region of the brain, called
fusiform gyrus, increases in size from childhood to adulthood. Previous research suggested that
most changes in brain tissue occurred during childhood (0 2 years) and involved either synaptic
pruning or tissue shrinkage. To make the discovery, which will force science to rethink the
anatomical development of the brain over the years, researchers recruited 22 children (aged 5 12)

The Consumption Of Cow Milk, It Has Become Highly Consumed...
Introduction Since the discovery of the nutritional benefits associated with the consumption of
cow s milk, it has become highly consumed within the western diet and worldwide (Kanekanian
2014). However, health concerns arose in the late nineteenth and early twentieth Centuries due
to an increase in infant mortality and milk borne illnesses relating to the consumption of raw
cow s milk (Knechtges 2012). This became an increasing public health concern and highlighted
the growing need to introduce and enforce laws and legalisations relating to the processing and
sale of cow s milk. In 1864 Louis Pasteur discovered pasteurisation was an effective processing
method for destroying pathogenic microorganisms responsible for foodborne illness present in
beverages; prolonging its life and quality (Brown 2015). Current laws and legislations now state
milk must undergo this process before being sold for retail sale and intended for human
consumption. Yet, there is still a growing demand for the sale of raw cow s milk due to beliefs in
greater nutritional benefits if consumed. This creates a growing public health concern to ensure
safe laws and legislations are in place and practice. This paper investigates the introduction of a
new milk processing technique allowing for the sale of raw milk which undergoes a high water
pressure processing (HPP) technique and whether it is an effective alternate processing method.
Moreover, it identifies the human health risks associated with the

American Institutional And Intellectual Life Essay
The issue of slavery in the United States has been hotly debated for centuries. Historians
continuously squabble over the causes and effects of America s capitalistic, industrial form of
slavery. But two of the most heavily discussed questions are whether the institution of slavery
destroyed African culture in America, and whether it reduced slaves to a child like state of
dependency and incompetence. Anthropologist Melville Herskovits, and historian Stanley Elkins
both weigh in on this debate: Herskovits with, The Myth of the Negro Past, and Elkins with, Slavery
: A Problem in American Institutional and Intellectual Life. In, Slavery: A Problem in American
Institutional and Intellectual Life, Elkins asserts that African culture was all but destroyed by a
repression of the slaves rights, at the hands of their masters. He claims that complete dependence
on their masters and a lack of collective cultural identity and family bonds, reduced slaves to a
child like state of helplessness and ignorance, and childish behavior called the Sambo . Herskovits
takes a different stance in this debate. In, The Myth of the Negro Past, he claims that African
culture was not completely destroyed by slavery, and that the Sambo stereotype was no more than
a myth or at least a gross generalization. He uses slave revolts and the persistence of African
culture in American in music, dance, and language as evidence to prove this. Stanley Elkins argues

Reflective Argument Paper
The four distinct learning objectives are as follows: First, students are required to be able to
adopt a rhetorical perspective in order to identify, analyze, and describe the various aspects within
one s own discourse community. How I will show this objective is by citing earlier identifications
of genre, conventions, and occasions for writingmade in my assignment two. Second, students must
produce writing that draws considerably on concepts from primary or secondary sources. For this
objective I cited my assignment two which includes primary sourcematerial and argues a
rationalization for change within a journal. Thirdly, students should show a flexible writing
process that adapts to the different writing situations and tasks. I cite again assignment two, where
I examined an article to argue a change over time. Lastly, the student s writing shows reflective

Comparing Arthur Laurents West Side Story and...
Although the discrepancies between Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story are too frequent to
categorize in such limited space, it is impossible for anyone familiar with both texts to not notice
the obvious similarities between the two works ( Theme ). From the opening scenes in both, up
through the rumble in West Side Story/death of Mercutio in Romeoand Juliet, the plays mirror each
other (Poelstra). It isn t until the last part of West Side Story, where Tony (our modern day
Romeo) dies and Maria (Tony s Juliet) doesn t (unlike the two star crossed loversof Shakespeare s
work, both of whom perish), that the major difference between the two works becomes apparent.

The best way to approach this work was by reading over West Side Story, then noting the
similarities (and, there were many) that exist between it and Shakespeare s fare. In the opening
act of Romeo and Juliet, Sampson and Gregory, servants of Capulet, harass Balthasar and
Abraham, servants to the Montagues. I will bite my thumb at them; which is a disgrace to them,
if they bear it, boasts Sampson (I.i.48 50). In the opening scene of West Side Story, several Sharks
(the Puerto Rican gang led by Bernardo) harass A rab (notice the similarity in name to Abraham)
ГђГђ a white dude, a Jet, and therefore, an enemy of the immigrants. In no time at all, other Jets
(led by Riff) rush to A rab s side. No words are exchanged between the gangs, since it is, after all, a
musical, and they basically just jump around in exaggerated fashion; nevertheless, the scene (like
the opening of Romeo and Juliet) sets the stage for the remainder of the production.
It is here where Lt. Schrank and his faithful compatriot, Officer Krupke, happen on the scene to
break apart a potential rumble ГђГђ just like Escalus, Prince of Verona, did in Romeo and Juliet: If
ever you disturb our streets again, your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace (I.i.103 4). Or, as
Schrank would phrase it, I got a
hot surprise for you: you hoodlums don t own the streets (Laurents 6).

An Inside Look at Superconducting Qubits Essay
Superconducting Qubits
Introduction and Background
The quantum computation has remarkably improved since the use of quan tum algorithms that
have a run time which is exponentially faster compared to classical algorithms. Implementation of
theory for practical computation presents various technological and scientific challenges. It is
required that the Qubits be entirely free from external noise while at the same time they need to be
strongly coupled amongst themselves using gates for computa tion. We need to construct the qubits
such that their degrees of freedom are independent of the noise in the environment. For example
electronic spins or spins of nuclei are isolated from surrounding noise. In superconduct ing qubits ...

Superconductivity
On lowering the temperature of some metals (materials) to a scale of few kelvins the electrons
experience a net attractive force amongst themselves.
This is attraction is phonon mediated. As a result of bonding between two electrons near the Fermi
level the net energy decreases. The pair has a spin zero .The pairing process changes the Fermi
level and further formation of pairs takes place which can all occupy the ground state(zero spin
state not affected by Paulis exclusion principle). The entire resistance less flow of cooper paired
electrons is called as supercurrent . The superconducting state is lower in energy from the normal
material state by an amount of energy called the superconducting energy gap. П€ = n0.5 eiОё s

A junction formed by placing two superconducting chips with a thin insula tor in between is called
Josephson junction tunnel. We see that at sufficiently low temperatures such that thermal energy
cannot break the cooper pairs, these pairs tunnel from one superconducting electrode to another,

William Shakespeare Concreation
To keep a fire from burning out, you must add more wood to feed the flames. To keep a family

is considered selfish for not wanting to share his beauty with the world, and foolish for willingly
giving up immortality. If one were to procreate and give their beauty to the world they will be

My Worst Day

pretty upset that I was not going to be able to spend Christmas with my boyfriend of two years

if I wanted to come over after work to open Christmas presents with him and his mom Penny.

love too. See you after work . I finished up work before clocking out. As I punched my time card I
smiled with joy, knowing shortly Tate would be opening his present I was so proud I had
bought. I stepped out side to walk to my car, I saw a white cloud coming out of my mouth as I
breathed from the cold, crisp air. I pulled into his drive way nervous to walk inside. I walked
inside, my hands full of presents. I started through the house to the living room. Penny couldn t
help but have a huge smile on her face which made me even more nervous. Penny never smiled
like that. Why was she smiling now? There I stood in the living room. Penny excitedly told Tate
to go get all the presents from them out from under the tree. While he was gone Penny asked me
Are you excited to open your presents? . The question made my palms sweaty, I hate surprises so
opening presents was defiantly my least favorite thing to do at Christmas time. Everyone staring at

Critical Role Of Disease Prevention In The United States
People living with prevalent chronic conditions such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke, and
chronic lung disease account for 75% of healthcare expenditures in the United States (Ahn, Basu,
Smith, Luohua, Loring, Whitelaw, Ory, 2013) . Preventing disease has the potential to
significantly reduce healthcare cost. Healthy people do not visit the doctor s office or emergency
room as much as an individual with a chronic disease or illness, which decreases healthcare cost. It
is important that people are educated on how to live a healthy lifestyle, and make better choices in
order to prevent disease and illness from occurring.

Primary prevention stops the disease from occurring. Several gaps in the healthcare system exist,
and patients are not receiving preventative care and screenings to prevent mortality and morbidity
(Owens, Beckles, Ho, Gorrell, Brady, and Kaftarian, 2008). It should be the individual s
responsibility to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but patients depend on their doctors to provide step by
step instruction on how to stay healthy. Many medical physicians do not promote disease
prevention and health promotion. Instead, prescription medications and surgery are the only
treatments being offered. Dr. Oz stated on one of his shows that he was trained to always persuade
the patient to have surgery. It was called heal with steel. Medication can sometimes cause worse
symptoms than the disease itself. Many people are turning to naturopathic or holistic doctors that
provide natural treatments to their conditions. Functional medicine physicians focus on the root
cause of the problem, and treat the disease with supplements and diet changes. The goal of a
functional medicine doctor is to reverse disease, and teach the patients how to live a healthy life
style forever. Diseases that have been reversed are rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, thyroid

Importance of Myrtle in The Great Gatsby Essay
Many of the occurrences in The Great Gatsby produced far reaching effects for several of the
characters. Of these occurrences, one of the most influential and important incidents was the death
of Myrtle Wilson. While her life and death greatly affected the lives of all of the main and
supporting characters, her death had a very significant effect on the lives of Tom, Daisy, and Gatsby.
Tom knew Myrtle better than any of the main characters. He had met her on a train headed for
New York. When the train reached the city, she went with him in a taxi, and their affair began. Tom
never made much of an effort to keep their relationship secret. In fact, he almost paraded her around
in the presence of his acquaintances. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She, of course, could not do this because it was simply too much to ask of her. Tom believed he
had won their disagreement, but the day only grew worse. He may have won Daisy, but he had
lost Myrtle forever. He completely blamed Gatsby, and his feelings of dislike only grew stronger.
That night, he talked with Daisy until early in the morning. In the end, Myrtle s death may have
had such an effect on Tom that he finally turned to his own wife for everything he had searched
for outside of the marriage. He had lost Myrtle, and he had come very close to losing Daisy that
same day. These events may have encouraged him not to take his wife for granted any longer.
While Daisy did not know Myrtle personally, there is a very good possibility that she knew Tom
was having an affair with her. She was well aware of Tom s past behavior, and she made no
attempts to deny it. She simply accepted it because she had no other choice. After spending the
day in New York with the others, she was obviously upset and tense. The day had taxed her to the
limit. Gatsby had demanded too much of her, and she just was not strong enough to endure any
further argument. She chose to drive him back to East Egg in an attempt to calm her nerves. When
they passed Wilson s garage, Myrtle ran into the street toward Gatsby s car, thinking it belonged to
Tom. According to Gatsby, Daisy turned the wheel toward the oncoming car in the other lane, but

The Synoptic Gospels are the primary three books of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, and Luke.
These three books plus John are entitled the Gospels. they record the illustrious news of Jesus life,
death, and resurrection the establishment of our salvation. The Gospel of Matthew was record by
Matthew an apostle of Jesus. The Gospel of Mark was written by John Mark, a confidante of the
Apostle Peter. The Gospel of Luke was inscribed by the physician, Luke was a comrade and
traveling companion of the apostle Paul.
The first three Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke is called synoptic , because they have a mutual
interpretation (the word synoptic means together in sight ). Matthew, Mark, and Luke cover
several of the equivalent happenings of Jesus life. A greater part of them from Jesus ministry in
Galilee. Approximately 90 percent of Mark s evens of Christ are found in Matthew, and about 50
percent of Mark is noted in Luke s gospel. All of the parables of Christ are established in the
Synoptics.
Luke presents the human/natural man of Jesus. Luke used a longer description of Jesus birth, and
childhood. Luke was written after Mark and in all probability Matthew also. The book of Luke
focuses primarily on Jesus humanity. The deliberation in the church was not over rather Jesus was

infinitely superior to John. Note the uses of the title Most High (1:32, 35, 76). 46 First, Luke
documented the proclamations of John s, and then Jesus birth (1:5 38). (Constable ) This is a
section of comparison predominantly. Then he enlightened of Elizabeth blessing Mary and Mary
blessing God, a portion of predominant contrast (1:39 56). Finally we have the births of John and

because it has been a Friday night staple in my household since I was just a little inspiring sauce

around with the family on Friday night and indulging on the sauciest of pies however that being
said I m still a professional and in my professional opinion I believe that no one in the area can hold
a candle to a traditional plain pizza in the area. I ve done a lot of soul searching, traveling and

Milky Way Compare And Contrast
In about 4 billion years, the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies will collide. The two
neighbouring galaxies are located in a collection of other galaxies acknowledged as the local
group. This group contains more than 50 galaxies, with a majority of them being dwarf galaxies.
The largest and most massive of galaxies are the Milky Way, Andromeda, and the Triangulum
galaxy. All three of these have a gathering of satellite galaxies surrounding them. Just like how
planets orbit around the sun, these smaller galaxies contain billions of stars and orbit around the
galaxy s center. The satellite galaxies orbit these larger galaxies due to the great gravitational
attraction the larger galaxies emit.
The Milky Way galaxy has an assortment of approximately 30 satellite galaxies which include
Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy, Large Magellanic Cloud, and Small Magellanic Cloud, just to name a
few. The Andromeda galaxy has about 15 satellite galaxies, and the Traingulum galaxy has the

The galaxy contains the Solar System, with more than 200 billion stars and at least 100 billion
planets. The name milky comes from the dim disk like appearance the galaxy has when
observed in the night sky. It is a barred spiral galaxy with four major arms and a diameter of 220
000 light years. The mass of the Milky Way is approximately more than 400 solar masses. The
center, Sagittarius A, is located about 26 000 light years from Earth and contains a supermassive
black hole. The other galaxy involved in the future collision is the Andromeda galaxy, or M31.
There are about 1 trillion stars and could possibly contain more dark matter than the Milky Way.
Its name comes from the constellation of Andromeda, which originated from the mythological
princes Andromeda. It is a spiral type galaxy with at least two spiral arms and a diameter of 260
000 light years. The mass of Andromeda is approximately 400 billion solar masses.

The Problem Of Cyber Crime
Introduction
Qualified candidates are limited since, for those investigating or examining cyber crime must be
highly trained specialists, requiring detective and technical skills, including knowledge of various
IT hardware and software, and forensic tools. Nevertheless, in the modern world computer or
computer related crime makes up a great amount of percentage of all the crimes happiness which is
bound to increase. The Office for Victim Assistance ensures that victims of crimes investigated by
the FBI are presented the opportunity to receive the services and notification as required by federal
law guidelines
Issues law enforcement must deal with regarding digital crime and terrorism.
The number of police agencies with advanced or computer crime unit has increased extensively
over the last several years, but the majority of these agencies serve large urban populations (Wolf,
2009). Also, prosecutors and judges are turning out to be well versed in computer crime and the
unique law and vagaries inherent in these cases. Thus, it has been unclear how well the state and
local law enforcement agencies are equipped to handle these offenses.
For instance, a study of forensic examiners found that they are frequently overworked and
experience stress related to their work. Actually, for those who were interviewed, half of them felt
that they did not have the workforce to complete their tasks at work (Wolf, 2009). In addition,
assessors recognize that they need greater training

Heroic Journey Archetype
J.J. Abrams film Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a modern heroic journey archetype. An
archetype is a universal pattern that can be applied to stories across cultures and historical periods.
In this heroic journey archetype, the main character Rey goes through various stages of her journey
that greatly contribute to her final transformation into a hero. The stages that contribute most to her
transformation are: departure, road of trials, and return and reintegration. In the departure stage,
the hero is typically called to adventure. The call usually comes from a herald of some sort
carrying the message that ultimately causes the adventure to begin. In this film, Rey s departure
stage takes place when she rescues BB 8 (who is carrying... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Not only does Rey succeed in protecting Luke s secrecy, she meets him in person and restores
the light saber to its rightful owner. The use of the heroic journey in this film implies many
things about how people become heroes and what it takes to reach that destination. For one, the
film implies that destiny plays a huge role in heroism. BB 8 stumbled upon Rey as though it
were destiny, and Rey had a vision entailing her calling as well as the ability to use the force. The
heroic journey also implies that becoming a hero takes a lot of hard work and determination to
reach that destination. You must also make sacrifices and focus on your goal. In the film, Rey
had to go through multiple tests of strength and endurance, but she was determined and remained
focused on what she was trying to achieve. Rey also sacrificed her home planet Jakku to help
fight off the evil and restore the peace. Finally, the heroic journey implies the importance of
believing in yourself. In the beginning, Rey lacked confidence and was afraid; however, she
conquered her fears and believed in herself in the end. Without the self doubt shadowing her
actions and holding her back, Rey is able to defeat Kylo Ren and

James Joyce
Essay Introduction to Literature
An initiation in James Joyce s story Araby Many times in life, people set unrealistic expectations
for themselves or for other people. This is not a very wise thing to do because people often feel
disappointed and embarrassed for getting their hopes up so high. One good example of this is the
narrator in the short story Araby by James Joyce. In his brief but complex story James Joyce
concentrates on character rather than on plot to reveal the ironies within self deception. On its
simplest level, Araby is a story about a boy s first love. On a deeper level, it is a story about the
world he lives in that is full of ideals and dreams. Araby is a story of initiation, of a boy s quest for

The second thing that has an impact on protagonist s life view is the culture and life in Dublin.
But on the rest of the people from this city. Children have to go to Christian school, where the
discipline is strict. That can be inferred from the very first sentence of the story: North
Richmond Street, being blind, was a quiet street except at the hour when the Christian Brothers
School set the boys free. Another thing that can be noticed about the boy s religious belonging
is in the way he acts: All my senses seemed to desire to veil themselves and, feeling that I was
about to slip from them, I pressed the palms of my hands together until they trembled,
murmuring: O love! O love! many times. (p. 434) This sentence can be interpreted as though he
does the thing he is used to do every time he happens to be in difficult situation. These facts play
a huge role in the forming of this boy s character and his life. Overvalue of boy s attitude towards
life in Araby is supported by the circumstances the boy had to face up with that are used as imagery
of light and darkness. Darkness is used throughout the story as the prevailing theme. The boy is
young and naive and he leads a dull and boring life. Joyce uses dark and obscure references to
make the boy s reality of living in the gloomy town more vivid. Darkness, in addition to despair,
represents the reality and truth in the narrator s circumstances. The author uses dark references to
create the mood or atmosphere

Essay on Zero Tolerance Policy of Education in America
Zero Tolerance Policy of Education in America In Bedford, Texas, a 16 year old honor student
was expelled after a security guard noticed a kitchen knife on the floor of the student s car. The
knife apparently had fallen unnoticed as the student carted some of his grandmother s possessions
to Goodwill. He was ordered to spend a year in a juvenile justice educationprogram and banished
from district property and school sponsored activities. [...] In Deer Lakes, Pennsylvania, a
kindergarten student was suspended for bringing a toy axe to school. He was dressed as a
firefighter for Halloween. [...] In Thornton, Colorado, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a student was a relatively good kid with no past disciplinary actions taken against him or her, they
were much more likely to have a punishment that actually taught them something, rather than
creating a sense of resentment towards the school authorities, and the system in general. Before the
era of zero tolerance, a kid with a great future ahead could not screw it all up by making one simple
mistake.
The line that zero tolerance crosses is one of intent. Zero tolerance looks only at the offense that has
been made, not at the circumstances that brought it about. If someone with no intent of doing
something unlawful accidentally commits a crime, they are punished equally with one who
deliberately inflicts harm.
So how did zero tolerance laws come about? When major incidences of school disruption, like the
Columbine shooting, started occurring, school officials decided they needed to start cracking
down on discipline. After realizing certain things were starting to get out of hand, the federal
government made it mandatory for, [...] a zero tolerance policy toward the possession of illegal
drugs and weapons on school grounds, (Copenhaver 1).
In the beginning days of zero tolerance, the laws truly did focus on behavior that could be deemed
dangerous and criminal, and required a mandatory expulsion for

T Ball-Personal Narrative
Have you ever watched a game of T ball? You re watching kids with hats far too big for their
heads, or bats too heavy for their arms to swing; it is adorable. I was one of those kids, and
during a T ball game the first signs of an issue that would haunt me for years to come appeared.
In the dugout during a t ball game, I was sitting on a bench waiting to go up to bat. A teammate
asked me if the player currently up to bat was my brother. I turned to him and said, That is my
brodder. He looked confused and responded with He is your budder? No, I countered, He is my
broffer. With an even more confused look he asked me again, He is your buffer? Now I was
annoyed. I thought I sounded normal, but he was looking at me like I had a third eye. He. is. My.
broffer! I said, exaggerating the word slowly and condescendingly. That is where the memory cuts
off. I don t remember whether he finally understood what I was trying to say, or if I just gave up in
frustration. Although this casual conversation may seem like a one timething, it was not. My
mispronunciation problem would follow me into fruition.
After this event I would simply say, bro because I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

where we spent months on a single topic such as reading speed and comprehension. I could read
at a moderate pace, but I struggled to understand what I just read. To practice this, I would read
what seemed to be a perfect 400 word story and answer questions afterwards about the story. There

  • 2. Crystallization Of Sulfanilamide Lab Report Introduction Crystallization is a technique that has been utilized as a part of the purification of substances. As often as possible, when a solid substance (single compound) is dissolved in a solvent, it dissolves. After adding a greater amount of the solid, a point in the long run is come to past which no further solid dissolves, and the solution is said to be saturated with the solid compound. The concentration of the saturated solution is influenced by the temperature, by and large a higher temperature bringing about a higher concentration. These events can be utilized as a methods for affecting separation and purification. In this way, if a saturated solution at some temperature is cooled, the dissolved segment starts to isolate from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Embalming In American Culture The term embalming is a familiar one in today s society; however, many people are unaware of what happens during its process. Depending upon the family s wishes, a body may or may not be embalmed. Culture can also play a part in making that decision. Embalming is a simple process with rich history that does wonders for a body and families. The history of embalming goes all the way back to the Civil War. Those who were left needed an efficient way to take care of the fallen bodies. Dr. Thomas Holmes was the first person to practice the French s embalming techniques in America. Since families wanted to bring their loved ones bodies home, this preservation tactic proved worthy. Eventually, many soldiers pre paid to be embalmed in the course ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some families want to see their loved one for the last time as if they are sleeping. Embalming makes this possible. The chemicals give the skin a natural color, along with makeup and other fixings (Godfrey). For many families, this last memory of their loved one is very important (Embalming). In rare circumstances, various cultures do not embalm the dead. Islamic and Jewish cultures refuse to embalm the deceased. It is seen as disrespectful to the body. Bodies are buried within 24 48 hours of their deaths. Hindus do not bury the dead at all; rather, they are burned. Catholicism requires that a body is buried as soon as arrangements are made. Due to these speedy burials and requirements, embalming is not necessary here. In fact, embalming is looked down upon in these cultures (Gray). Despite common beliefs, embalming is a short process. There are two main parts: internal and external. First, the blood and other bodily fluids are replaced with embalming fluid. To do this, a small incision is made to the neck and the two veins are brought up. The body cavity is punctured and cured as well. Once the inside of the body is completely embalmed, the focus returns to the external parts. The jaw is shut, the eyes are fixed, and any work to rebuild the face is done. Then makeup is applied. The hair styling is left up to the cosmetologist in most cases (The Embalming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Alan Turing s Impact On Modern Day World Life of Imitation Father of Artificial Intelligence, inventor, Enigma breaker, war hero. The life of mathematician Alan Turing is one of extreme feats and tragedy. Even from a young age, Turing was misunderstood and unappreciated, and this became a common theme all the way to his death at the young age of 41. Alan Turing envisions a digital world centuries ahead of his time. Everything he did still has a major impact on our modern day world. Yet his impact is still unrecognized. Alan Mathison Turing was born on June 23, 1912 in Maida Vale, London. Even from a young age Turing showed signs of a genius, so his parents father Julius Mathison Turing (1873 1947) and mother Ethel Sara Stoney (1881 1976) enrolled him to St. Michael s Starting School at the age of six. His teachers noticed his intellect early on, but didn t necessarily appreciate it. At the age of 13 he attended an independent school in Sherborne, Dorset. In 1936, Turing reformulated Kurt GГ¶del s results on the limits of proof and computation. He replaced GГ¶del s complex formulations with simple hypothetical devices known to be as Turing Machines. This was all published in his paper called: On Computable Numbers, with an Application to the Entscheidungsproblem (1936). Turing proved that a theoretical universal machine, later to be known as the Universal Turing Machine , would be capable of performing any mathematical computation if it were given an algorithm. To this day, Turing machines are a central subject of study. September of 1936, Turing attended Princeton University where he studied cryptology. 1939 Alan Turing received his PhD from Princeton, and returned to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on Imperialism and Colonialism in ShakespeareВґs The... The Tempest was Shakespeare s last play that was written shortly after England colonized Virginia in 1609. Throughout the play, there are many different references to imperialism and colonialism within the characters. The Tempest analyzes the imperialistic relationships between England and America but applies it to personal human interaction between the central characters. The island gives newcomers a sense of endless possibilities like claiming the land for themselves because of the belief in the Great Chain of Being and the seventeenth century being an age of exploration. The idea of ruling a colony lured many people into the idea that having that kind of power over a large group of people is attainable. Master servant relationships are... His daughter and I will be King and Queen.. And Trinculo and thyself shall be my viceroys (iii.ii.101 103). Prospero, the main character, has a similar mindset to a colonist because although he ended up on the island accidentally, he still acts as superior to the inhabitants and he sees the island as something he can make profit from. Prospero probably wouldn t fit the title of an imperialist invader because he came to the island as a fugitive and did not necessarily start a war with the inhabitants. Nonetheless he wants to restore his dukedom by manipulating people around him. He does this to his daughter Miranda by keeping her naive and innocent. He also conjures up Ferdinand, who becomes Miranda s love interest, and then proceeds to enslave him also. Prospero uses Ariel to carry out most of his plans by convincing Ariel he will soon be free if he keeps obeying Prospero with willingness and enthusiasm. Gabrielle The Apparatus of Violence in the Jim Crow Machine Gabrielle Hatch The Apparatus of Violence in the Jim Crow Machine The rise of Jim Crow, a system of sustainable racial inequality, had a significant scope on racial relations for subsequent years to come. Jim Crow laws and its prescribed etiquette operated and represented the legitimization of anti blackness primarily but not exclusively in southern states of the United States. Scholarship has justifiably surveyed these codes of conduct with stressing African American disenfranchisement. However, violence has been presumed as a byproduct of the Jim Crow system, rather than a mechanism that was used to undergird Jim Crow s place in America s society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The extra legal nature of executions in colonial times met the public s desire for an active role in society and for the conservation of values. As societies modernized, the culture of execution being a public communal event dissipated (Pfeifer). It wasn t until racial slavery positioned Black people on the outskirts of normal law and legitimized extra legal violence, that a re emergence of collective and communal violence occurred. The conditions of slavery allowed the United States, particularly the southern colonies, to revisit collective violence. Furthermore, it made necessary an imposed draconian regime of punishment. Colonies adopted a separate penal code and fixed slavery as permanent (Berg). In the criminal justice arena, the slave codes could not be restricted by traditional English law. It was a loophole to creating a private violence that Whites could inflict on Blacks. Colonial slavery contributed to the later rise of lynching. For one, the nature of slavery positioned African Americans as objects of hyper violence that was recognized under law. Furthermore, it designated the responsibility of subordinating slaves as a collective effort from the community. It rendered Whites as the overseers or the community hegemon above slaves. Lastly, once slavery was abolished, Whites could not be permitted to use violence against Blacks. This resulted in Whites swearing to uphold the duty of maintaining White superiority by all means necessary. The era of Civil War and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Comparison Of Jack The Ripper And Lizzie Borden Paden Schmitt Mrs. Burrow English 3 November 2, 2017 Jack the Ripper and Lizzie Borden Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks, when she saw what she had done she gave her father forty one. Jack the Ripper and the Lizzie Borden Murders were both violent crimes that impacted the world during the late 1800s. Jack the Ripper was a serial killer who was never found. Lizzie Borden had her parents murdered and most people believe she did it but was never accused of the murders. They both are unsolved cases that people still talk about today. Jack the Ripper was a serial killer in the United Kingdom in 1888. Why is Jack the Ripper so famous? He was essentially a media star. He is believed to only have 11 victims but, the media is what made him famous throughout England. All of his victims were alcoholics who turned to prostitution, says Thomas K. Grose from Time Magazine. Also, the area where Jack the Ripper killed all his victims was well known. It was known as a hotbed of vice and villainy, and a breeding ground for social unrest. Jack the Ripper was never found and over the course of these many years there have been hundreds of suspects but nobody has been brought to justice. The worst thing about Jack the Ripper is the way that he murdered his victims. It was not just a quick stab or a bullet, but sheer violence. He ripped them to pieces. Most of his victims weren t recognizable after he was done with them. That is how he got his name, Jack the Ripper. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. English As A Second Or Foreign Language Essay As the world s economy globalizes, English becomes the first priority language among the foreign languages in most non English speaking countries, including China. In China, there is a boost of English learning and teaching (Sun, 2013). More and more Chinese people learn English as a second or foreign language. However, according to a survey of China s language situation that was conducted in 2006, only 1.8% of English learners in China claimed to be able to act as interpreters on formal occasions, 3.53% to converse quite fluently, 15.61% to conduct daily conversations (Wei Su, 2012). This indicated that only a few English learners in China can speak English fluently and that many English learners do not have the ability to engage in daily interactions. The education in China is exam oriented, but most of the tests emphasize testing students mastery of the reading and language forms while overlooking assessing students speaking abilities (Wei, 2012). And teachers tend to give students practices of the knowledge that are to be tested in the exams. Therefore, many English teachers in China tend to ignore English speaking and they give few opportunities for their students to practice their speaking abilities (Wang, 2014). In China, English language teaching still focuses heavily on language knowledge, not language skills, with the former being defined in terms of grammar and vocabulary and being taught predominantly in the mother tongue and through textbook material and ... The scenes in which we had to fly Bat Boy were the hardest because we had to get timing right for everything, as well as the fluidity of the pull. The scene where he flies out had to be a smooth movement. If it was choppy it wouldn t have looked right. Jumping off the acting block and pulling the rope with others took plenty of practice as well. For every fly scene, no matter how much practice we got, there would always be a point where we could end up grabbing each others hands while we were pulling on the rope. Also, similar to the same race leniency effect found by Sommers and Ellsworth (2000), it is expected that African Americanmock jurors will demonstrate attributing more false confessions to same raceconfessors than other race confessors. The current study integrates past research and theory on racial bias in juror decision making, positing that White mock jurors will demonstrate higher rates of false alarms in cases involving African American suspects. In other words, White jurors will be biased towards believing that African American suspects are guilty, thus assuming the stereotype of minority criminality. This hypothesis was formed based on prior research indicating the presence of White juror biases against Black defendants, and in group/out group racial biases (Sommers Ellsworth,... A number of psychological theories have surfaced to explain this error in judgment, one of which is called the other race effect, which states that individuals are more likely to make mistakes when identifying a suspect belonging to their perceived out group, or the other race, versus when identifying someone belonging to their own race (Wells Olson, ... Prostate Canceris a known cancer that happens to men only and a lot of men in the U.S are diagnosed with it, and happens to male s reproductive system. Specifically speaking, it is a gland found in the most private area of a man. In the following paragraphs, I will be explaining why we need to find a way to combat prostate cancer, how to detect this cancer at early stages, and the risks associated with prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death by cancer for men in the U.S. It mostly affects African American men than men of other races. In addition, those men who suffer from prostate cancer would not know that they are affected until they participate in a health checkup or conduct self diagnoses. A healthy prostate gland should be about the size of a walnut or smaller depend on individuals. Although the class focuses on general ideas, it s still teaches that each individual student should have a different health plan, as they each come from different backgrounds. One s healthplan would be based off their family history with injury, illness, and disease. When creating my health plan, I took into consideration how my grandmother (on my mother s side) died of breast cancer, my grandfather (on my mother s side) has developed Huntington s disease, and my grandfather (on my father s side) had Parkinson s disease. To reduce the chances of developing any of these diseases, I must take into consideration different healthcare options, nutritionplans, physical activity regimens, stress factors, environmental factors, and be aware of what I use as a consumer. It is estimated that about 12% of women will develop breast cancer at some point in their life. Your chances of this are even more increased if a family member has been diagnosed with the disease. So, if someone in your family has had the cancer, it is recommended you live a cautious lifestyle. This is how I will have to live, as my grandmother died of breast cancer. • 20. Face Uniform Gyrus Face Recognition Study A group of scientists at the Stanford University School of Medicine in the United States discovered that the region of the brain responsible for face recognition grows in children and adults. The discovery surprised scientists because it was widely believed that brain development didn t involve tissue growth in adulthood, but rather neuroplasticity. Until now, it was thought that brain development occurred exclusively through a process called synaptic pruning a mechanism of destruction of the synapses (connections between the neurons) that are rarely used, opening the way for the development of stronger and more effective synapses. A growing fusiform gyrus This is the first time that research has found evidence that tissue in this region of the brain, called fusiform gyrus, increases in size from childhood to adulthood. Previous research suggested that most changes in brain tissue occurred during childhood (0 2 years) and involved either synaptic pruning or tissue shrinkage. To make the discovery, which will force science to rethink the anatomical development of the brain over the years, researchers recruited 22 children (aged 5 12) and 25 adults. • 22. The Consumption Of Cow Milk, It Has Become Highly Consumed... Introduction Since the discovery of the nutritional benefits associated with the consumption of cow s milk, it has become highly consumed within the western diet and worldwide (Kanekanian 2014). However, health concerns arose in the late nineteenth and early twentieth Centuries due to an increase in infant mortality and milk borne illnesses relating to the consumption of raw cow s milk (Knechtges 2012). This became an increasing public health concern and highlighted the growing need to introduce and enforce laws and legalisations relating to the processing and sale of cow s milk. In 1864 Louis Pasteur discovered pasteurisation was an effective processing method for destroying pathogenic microorganisms responsible for foodborne illness present in beverages; prolonging its life and quality (Brown 2015). Current laws and legislations now state milk must undergo this process before being sold for retail sale and intended for human consumption. Yet, there is still a growing demand for the sale of raw cow s milk due to beliefs in greater nutritional benefits if consumed. This creates a growing public health concern to ensure safe laws and legislations are in place and practice. This paper investigates the introduction of a new milk processing technique allowing for the sale of raw milk which undergoes a high water pressure processing (HPP) technique and whether it is an effective alternate processing method. Moreover, it identifies the human health risks associated with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. American Institutional And Intellectual Life Essay The issue of slavery in the United States has been hotly debated for centuries. Historians continuously squabble over the causes and effects of America s capitalistic, industrial form of slavery. But two of the most heavily discussed questions are whether the institution of slavery destroyed African culture in America, and whether it reduced slaves to a child like state of dependency and incompetence. Anthropologist Melville Herskovits, and historian Stanley Elkins both weigh in on this debate: Herskovits with, The Myth of the Negro Past, and Elkins with, Slavery : A Problem in American Institutional and Intellectual Life. In, Slavery: A Problem in American Institutional and Intellectual Life, Elkins asserts that African culture was all but destroyed by a repression of the slaves rights, at the hands of their masters. He claims that complete dependence on their masters and a lack of collective cultural identity and family bonds, reduced slaves to a child like state of helplessness and ignorance, and childish behavior called the Sambo . Herskovits takes a different stance in this debate. In, The Myth of the Negro Past, he claims that African culture was not completely destroyed by slavery, and that the Sambo stereotype was no more than a myth or at least a gross generalization. He uses slave revolts and the persistence of African culture in American in music, dance, and language as evidence to prove this. Stanley Elkins argues in, Slavery: A Problem in American ... Several gaps in the healthcare system exist, and patients are not receiving preventative care and screenings to prevent mortality and morbidity (Owens, Beckles, Ho, Gorrell, Brady, and Kaftarian, 2008). It should be the individual s responsibility to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but patients depend on their doctors to provide step by step instruction on how to stay healthy. Many medical physicians do not promote disease prevention and health promotion. Instead, prescription medications and surgery are the only treatments being offered. Dr. Oz stated on one of his shows that he was trained to always persuade the patient to have surgery. It was called heal with steel. Medication can sometimes cause worse symptoms than the disease itself. Many people are turning to naturopathic or holistic doctors that provide natural treatments to their conditions. Functional medicine physicians focus on the root cause of the problem, and treat the disease with supplements and diet changes. The goal of a functional medicine doctor is to reverse disease, and teach the patients how to live a healthy life style forever. Diseases that have been reversed are rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, thyroid conditions, chohn s disease, cancer, and many others. Googling Chris beats cancer tells the ... In both Victoria and New South Wales preschool provision remained largely in the hands of voluntary agencies (Brennan, 1998). Although preschool provision and operation were widespread, preschools largely failed to meet the needs of working mothers. A strong push for the provision of child care services to support working women developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s. A feminist advocacy for women s rights seek in paid employment and researches on the number of children left without adequate supervision because of their parents need to work, and the needs of industry for access to women s labour became a powerful impetus for governments to take child care provision seriously (Press Hayes, 2000). As a result, the Commonwealth Minister for Labour and National Service introduced the Child Care Act 1972, which commenced Commonwealth involvement in the funding of child care programs beyond the Lady Gowrie Centres. • 38. Importance of Myrtle in The Great Gatsby Essay Many of the occurrences in The Great Gatsby produced far reaching effects for several of the characters. Of these occurrences, one of the most influential and important incidents was the death of Myrtle Wilson. While her life and death greatly affected the lives of all of the main and supporting characters, her death had a very significant effect on the lives of Tom, Daisy, and Gatsby. Tom knew Myrtle better than any of the main characters. He had met her on a train headed for New York. When the train reached the city, she went with him in a taxi, and their affair began. Tom never made much of an effort to keep their relationship secret. In fact, he almost paraded her around in the presence of his acquaintances. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He may have won Daisy, but he had lost Myrtle forever. He completely blamed Gatsby, and his feelings of dislike only grew stronger. That night, he talked with Daisy until early in the morning. In the end, Myrtle s death may have had such an effect on Tom that he finally turned to his own wife for everything he had searched for outside of the marriage. He had lost Myrtle, and he had come very close to losing Daisy that same day. These events may have encouraged him not to take his wife for granted any longer. While Daisy did not know Myrtle personally, there is a very good possibility that she knew Tom was having an affair with her. She was well aware of Tom s past behavior, and she made no attempts to deny it. She simply accepted it because she had no other choice. After spending the day in New York with the others, she was obviously upset and tense. The day had taxed her to the limit. Gatsby had demanded too much of her, and she just was not strong enough to endure any further argument. She chose to drive him back to East Egg in an attempt to calm her nerves. When they passed Wilson s garage, Myrtle ran into the street toward Gatsby s car, thinking it belonged to Tom. Rey also sacrificed her home planet Jakku to help fight off the evil and restore the peace. Finally, the heroic journey implies the importance of believing in yourself. This is not a very wise thing to do because people often feel disappointed and embarrassed for getting their hopes up so high. One good example of this is the narrator in the short story Araby by James Joyce. In his brief but complex story James Joyce concentrates on character rather than on plot to reveal the ironies within self deception. On its simplest level, Araby is a story about a boy s first love. On a deeper level, it is a story about the world he lives in that is full of ideals and dreams. Araby is a story of initiation, of a boy s quest for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second thing that has an impact on protagonist s life view is the culture and life in Dublin. But on the rest of the people from this city. Children have to go to Christian school, where the discipline is strict. That can be inferred from the very first sentence of the story: North Richmond Street, being blind, was a quiet street except at the hour when the Christian Brothers School set the boys free. Another thing that can be noticed about the boy s religious belonging is in the way he acts: All my senses seemed to desire to veil themselves and, feeling that I was about to slip from them, I pressed the palms of my hands together until they trembled, murmuring: O love! O love! many times. (p. 434) This sentence can be interpreted as though he does the thing he is used to do every time he happens to be in difficult situation. These facts play a huge role in the forming of this boy s character and his life. Overvalue of boy s attitude towards life in Araby is supported by the circumstances the boy had to face up with that are used as imagery of light and darkness. Darkness is used throughout the story as the prevailing theme. The boy is young and naive and he leads a dull and boring life. Joyce uses dark and obscure references to make the boy s reality of living in the gloomy town more vivid. Darkness, in addition to despair, represents the reality and truth in the narrator s circumstances. The author uses dark references to create the mood or atmosphere ... Zero tolerance looks only at the offense that has been made, not at the circumstances that brought it about. If someone with no intent of doing something unlawful accidentally commits a crime, they are punished equally with one who deliberately inflicts harm. So how did zero tolerance laws come about?
