Psychology of the Unconscious
Introduction Through the different processes of social attachment and detachment, individuals are
shaped and influenced because of the way people and entities become connected in our shared worlds
(Redman, 2008a, p. 181). These processes are important mechanisms by which collective worlds and
the individuals who reside in these worlds are created (Redman, 2008b, p. 4). From a psychoanalytic
point of view, sociologists suggest that these social attachments happen through processes that are, to
some extent, unconscious (The Open University, 2014a). These processes, which range from thoughts
and feelings to impulses and emotional textures, are not easily available to conscious reflection.
However, the effects of unconscious activity can be located in conscious thought and witnessed in
human interactions (Redman and Whitehouse Hart, 2008, p. 60). These unconscious processes
mediate our personal awareness of social worlds by translating the individuals and entities we
encounter in the outer world into forms that resonate with internal experiences, preoccupations,
fantasies and senses of self other relationships (Chodorow, 1999, cited in Redman, 2008a, p. 177).
This assignment will explore how social worlds are mediated by unconscious processes using research
surveillance from the television programme Big Brother , the Northern Ireland Troubles and the case
of Victoria Climbié. Furthermore, it will outline some potential criticisms of this claim. Transference,
projection,

The overall attitude towards growth for Domino s Pizza is to grow and become the largest, fastest, and
overall best pizza delivery company in the world. To do this, they operate themselves by
implementing and executing an array of growth strategies.
The first strategy that Domino s executes on is concentration strategy. This strategy consists of a basic
principle in which a business or company does one thing and does this one task very well. There are
three sub strategies underneath the concentration strategy and the first one is known as product
development. The product development strategy means that a company sells a new product in the
same market. Domino s is using the product development strategy by selling new types of pizza, the
thin crust and deep dish, along with the pasta bowls, chicken wings, and deserts to the same market of
pizza consumers. This strategy allows Domino s to diversify and strengthen their menu while
appealing to a larger market of people that not only enjoy eating pizza but also other entrée s that
Domino s has implemented into their menu.
The second sub strategy is known as market development. This sub strategy allows a company to sell
the same product in a new market . Domino s is doing this by going internationally and selling

A Brief Biography of Selena
Chris Perez wanted to be a rock star in a Rock n Roll band not a guitar player for a Tejano band. He
lived in San Antonio, Texas and was in a band with Shelly Laras, a singer, and she introduced him to
Selena y los Dinos. In Huston, Texas Shelly s band was playing at a festival and A.B. Quintanilla,
Selena s brother saw Chris playing guitar and liked Chris s guitar skills. During that time Selena y los
Dinos was looking for a new guitarist and A.B. gave Chris his number just so Chris can call him if he
was interested. Chris called A.B and set up a date to play together in the studio, since that day
happened Chris joined los Dinos. Chris was never close to Selena the only interaction he has with her
was on stage when he played the guitar. The most interaction he had with her was talking to her to
know what songs and they were going to be performed. On the trip back from Acapulco Selena sat
next to Chris and held his hand when he was freaking out because he was on an airplane. Since that
moment Chris felt like he had a special connected with Selena. Once they were on tour they kept a
secret relationship going on nobody knew about this relationship. Little by little everyone in the band
started finding out about the relationship except Selena s father the manager of the band. Chris went
through some rough time while he was in the band which he got in trouble with the law. Abraham,
Selena s father found out since Chris told him about the incident. Chris s life went back to

Culture Is The Beliefs, Customs, Arts, Acupuncture
Thesis: Culture is the beliefs, customs, arts, ect. of a particular society, group, place or time. (Webster
Online Dictionary) Cuba is rich and full of cultural backgrounds that influence its decision making for
present and future regional affairs. Political parties as well as celebrity affairs heavily influence today
s society.
Political Influence President Raul Castro of Cuba met with President Obama of the United States at
the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The two leaders spoke of the importance of
normalization between both countries and how it can benefit future economical businesses. President
Obama made it clear that the embargo for trade is going to change to a hassle free trade between the
two countries and in support of human rights in Cuba. Cuba has opened up their borders for U.S
companies, allowing U.S investors to physically step foot on country for travel and open up business
in Cuba. In August, the American Flag rose over the U.S Embassy in Cuba for the first time in more
than half a century. In July, Cuban officials inaugurated their embassy in Washington. (Halimah
Abdullah, 2015) Political influences as such are more than enough to change cultural aspects for
brother/sister allies. President Castro has made much of his term serving for the greater good of the
Cuban population. He met with President Nieto of Mexico to address policy letters for trade,
diplomacy, fishing, tourism, business, migration, education and human trafficking. The

Essay on Proposed Revisions to the Army Tattoo Policy
Although tattoos represent a variety of things in a person s life, they don t necessarily dictate how well
a person is able to perform their job. For the last few months, there has been an ongoing debate about
troops in the Army that have tattoos, and as a result their careers have been placed on the line. With
this upcoming change, it has been specifically said that troops cannot have tattoos that extend below
their knees and above their elbows and ones that reach above their neckline. Sgt. Maj. Raymond
Chandler argues that tattoos cannot be racist, extremist, or sexist. If the tattoo violates that then they
will have to get it removed (Freedberg). While it is assumed that this is limited to new recruits, it will
also be applied to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the time the Army gained a large number of troops, but what they failed to realize was that they
enlisted more troops than they needed. This is when the proposed revision to the grooming policy
came up for discussion. With the new revisions tattoos won t be the only thing up for discussion; hair,
makeup, and piercings will be too (Dallet). In a recent article there was a discussion about an off duty
troop who was unshaven, and had on torn clothes who had a piercing. While he was out and about on
the military base, he was seen by a few Airmen and who quickly labeled the Army as The Ghetto
Service . This assumption gave the impression that the Army let anyone who wanted to enlist in. This
relates back to the army tattoo policy, because I feel that the Army is placing those that have tattoos in
the same category as those Airmen. Chandler took that situation as an insult and this is when he
decided that it was time to fix this.
At this time the troops have the First Amendment to back them on this issue at hand. The amendment
gives them the right to express their freedom of speech. As I previously stated there wasn t a specific
way that your speech had to be expressed. So it all boils down to the question if the army is
discriminating against their troops, or they just won t deal with tattoos. An example of a troop
exercising his right was where Gunja talks about how Kalsi, the first Sikh soldier to

Life Of African American Slavery
First, African Americans sustained many hardships and had very bad lives as slaves. They were beaten
and not fed, and most starved to death. When or if they died they would be thrown overboard the ship
and fed to the sharks. If they did make it they would be forced to do hard labor without pay and very
little food. They were given poor sleeping conditions. When the slaves were brought from Africa they
were auctioned to the buyers and were split up from their families, and they were treated unfairly.
Secondly, they were whipped and beaten as punishment. The slaves worked on the fertile lands of
North America, where they grew rice, cotton, indigo, and tobacco. On the plantation the slaves cleared

Abu Bakr s The Sunni Tale
The Sunni tale focuses on the allegedly democratic selection that led to Abu Bakr s rise, touting him as
the leader on whom the people agreed. Some academics speculate, based on existing accounts, that
this election was conducted amongst a small group of tribal leaders who actively prevented Ali s
participation by involving him with the task of caring for a dying Muhammad. Some even task Abu
Bakr and Omar s children (including Aisha) with distracting Ali to the point of intentional obstruction.
This remains the primary disagreement between Sunni and Shi a Islam.
Tribalism is really important to remember here and goes back to our point about Islamic solidarity still
being a new concept. The Arabian Peninsula had been filled with smaller

Type 1 Vs Type 2 Supernova
A supernova is a marvelous thing that happens in space, and scientists are trying to use these
explosions of stars to learn more about our expanding galaxy with the debris and elements that
explode from the supernova, the largest explosion in space which can outshine many galaxies. Since
the stars is a large distance away, when the supernova does happen, it would have actually happened a
couple hundred years ago, because the light takes many years to reach our eyes. A supernova can
happen in two different ways, known by a Type 1 supernova and a Type 2 supernova.
The first way a supernova happens is in a binary solar system, meaning that there re two stars orbiting
around the same point. One of the stars, which is a carbon oxygen white dwarf,

Inclusion Of The Elementary And Secondary Education Act
Include, don t exclude! Being included in sports, lunch time talks with your friends, and other
scenarios has been apart of our culture. What if Sally did not allow you to be in the same classroom
with her because of how you acted based on a mental or a behavior disability that may affect her and
the class s learning ability? I believe that inclusion in the classroom is beneficial for all students
because it adds depth and culture to your class and teach a different aspect of life than what comes
from curriculum.
Inclusion in education is when children with and without disabilities participate and learn together in
the same class. One law that provides rights to students is the Individuals with Disabilities Education
Improvement Act of 2004, which is a law guaranteeing special education services to all children with
disabilities in the United States. Then there is the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, which is a United
States Act of Congress that is a reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act,
which included Title I, the government s flagship aid program for disadvantaged students, increased
the concentration of educators and parents to help each other find ways to include and to also support
students with an intellectual disability in the least restrictive environment ( No Child Left Behind ,
2015).

Possible Causes Of Economic Inequality In The United States
In recent years, the largest protests launched by the economic weak can be said to be fought. The issue
of inequality between the rich and the poor in the process of economic development has aroused
numerous discussions. However, there is no statement about its causes and consequences. The causes
of inequality can be divided into three points. First, the economically distorting free market
mechanism leads to inequality between the rich and the poor. Second, political, national or political
parties have different policy options. Third, the politics and economy of the joint system leads to
unequal deterioration. The uneven inequality is caused by the uneven distribution of political
resources from the transformation of economic resources. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Competition mechanism extends to various areas of economic life and will cause a lot of misplaced
resources. There is always too much manpower and resources to pursue the pursuit of certain higher
paid professionals or awards, rather than the average distribution of different production processes to
the interests of society maximized. At the same time, the waste of social resources also makes the
result of economic growth not be evenly distributed, and brings a small number of winners while other
people s income gap widening results. Politics and economy are conjoined; they cannot live without
each other. Political and economic impact is a mutual role. The development of the economy provides
a material basis and a real guarantee for political stability. Political unity for the economic
development provides a good condition and foundation. But the political structure problems cannot be
solved by the economy. Economic problems cannot be understood from the political side. The two are
independent of the two

Core competencies create differentiation and sustainable competitive advantage in the target market,
resulting in premium prices or increased volume. I have identified a couple core competencies
including: employee involvement, brand recognition and family environment.
One of the things that sets Harley Davidson s culture apart from other businesses is employee
involvement. The participation of the employees in the business has been an essential component to
there success. In order to maximize employee involvement, the hierarchy and layers of management
have been minimized and an open door policy extends throughout the Company. Employees aren t
allowed to check their brains at the door or avoid responsibility or accountability. All employees are
expected to take the initiative to identify problems and solve them. In the late 80s, the Harley
Davidson
Business Process was created with the goal of better aligning employees contributions with the
Company s goals. The idea is for the Company to share its vision so that all of its employees can put
their efforts into working in the same direction.
To make this possible, salaried and unionized employees are full participants in many key business

Michel Foucault s Panopticon
Author Michel Foucault uses the Panopticon as a metaphor to define the relationship between the
discipline and punishment system, and the concept of power knowledge. Discerning the population
equates to power and knowledge. Power is gained by the information you acquire when keeping close
tabs on people.
The Panopticon uses a different method of discipline . Instead of torturing, using violence, and
exhibiting power through this way, this new system forces the inmates inside the structure to behave
because of the force it has over their mind. Since they do not know when or even if they are being
overseen, the effect is them acting as if they are being supervised at all times. Any and all events are

With keeping the convicts locked up in this Panopticon, intimidation isn t required to have him
behave. Since each one has their own cell, there is no worry for anyone planning a group escape. The
surveillance would keep them under control. There is not much one can do when alone and under
constant supervision. Same goes for the students. Besides this method keeping unruly schoolchildren
at bay, it also stops them from cheating off of one another. It shows which student is actually clever
and dangerous. The Panopticon can be used in a way to have the children believe what isn t factual.
Anyone can learn anything and none would be the wiser since that was the only thing they were
taught. Regarding workers, this establishment would reveal who manages their time wisely and how
much work they complete in however long. That way the manager would know how much to pay each
one based on the job done. The Panopticon would also stop the risk of contagion between patients in
hospitals. The central tower is built in such a way that people would never know if anyone was in
there. No movement or light can be detected. So at any moment an inspector or boss can come in and
watch the building, taking note of every detail, and doing as he pleases with the information he comes

Examples Of Allegory In The Devil And Tom Walker
The Devil and Tom Walker Allegory Throughout the history of literature there have been many
prominent and robust allegories published. The Devil and Tom Walker is a short story written by
Washington Irving.
An allegory can be represented as a story, poem, or essay that can be picked apart to reveal a hidden
meaning, usually a moral or political one. Many renowned allegories written throughout time contain
an essential ingredient, symbolism. Symbolism uses images and indirect suggestions to express
mystical ideas, emotions, and states of mind. In an allegory like The Devil and Tom Walker the
fantastic elements are real in the sense that they represent something else (Piedmont Marton 55). The

Many of the everyday and small temptations we face entail minimum consequences. In the case of
Tom Walker, he meets the devil known as Old Scratch . In Many stories that contain the devil, the
devil represents temptation; the story of Tom Walker is no different. Tom s interactions with Old
Scratch illustrate just how disastrous greed and temptation can be. The devil identifies Tom s
weakness of greed and tempts him with the thing Walker craves most in life, wealth. It is the Devil s
usual place in literature to tempt other characters, often by providing some hapless character a deal too
good to refuse (Wilson 50). Old Scratch uses Kidd the pirate s treasure as bait to reel Tom in, and once
he got him hooked, there was no return for Tom. Old Scratch exploits Tom s weakness to the point of
complete devotion of Tom s soul to him. Temptation is usually fueled by an accomplice, and in The
Devil and Tom Walker it is greed and the desire for power. The devil also uses the death of Tom s wife
to anchor Tom into finalizing the deal. Ultimately, temptation is what gets Tom Walker killed at the
end of the story. If Tom were to put down his urges for mass amounts of wealth in the wrong way, his
wife would have lived and he would also not have had his soul taken away from him in the end. With
that being said, Old Scratch is the symbolic representation of temptation in the story of The Devil and

Helicopter Parenting Hypothesis
In the experiment Helping or Hovering? The Effects of Helicopter Parenting on College Students Well
Being, the researchers proposed multiple hypotheses. Their first proposed hypothesis was that the
college students perceptions of their parents engaging in helicopter parenting behaviors would be
related to higher levels of depression and anxiety (Lemoyne and Buchanan 2011) as well as decreased
satisfaction with their life (Segrin et al. 2012). In brief, that means that college students who had
helicopter parents would suffer from higher levels of anxiety and depression, as well as showing
increased dissatisfaction for their life. Their second hypothesis was that the relationship between
parenting behaviors and psychological outcomes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The experiment was considered qualitative due to its small sample size that focused on underlying
reasoning and motives compared to a larger sample size that would generalize based of the number of
people which had been carried out through surveys or questionnaires. The participants would have to
answer select questions about their mother that showed either helicoptering traits or autonomy.
Overall, the researchers found their hypothesis to be true. Consistent with the idea, our data suggests
that an inappropriate level of parental behavior control is associated with negative child outcomes.
Specifically, helicopter parenting behaviors were related to higher levels of depression and decreased
satisfaction with life (Schiffrin, Liss, Miles McLean, Geary, Erchull, Tashner, 2013). Researchers
gathered these findings to conclude their hypotheses correct through a series of questions. For
example, the researchers asked the audience My mother monitors who I spend time with the answers
were then represented with factor 1 and factor 2 on their graph to display their findings. Factor one
displayed a child with a helicopter parent and factor two displayed a parent that allowed the child
autonomy. Factor one stood for yes, which would have been a helicoptering parent s child and factor
two was no, which would

How to drill a pilot hole with a cordless screwdriver
What estimate do boring apparatus I require?
The measure of boring apparatus you need will rely upon the extent of the screw you need to embed.
A decent general guideline is to choose a boring tool that is somewhat littler than the width of the
screw s string. Along these lines, the boring apparatus will evacuate enough material to avert part,
however, will leave enough for the screw s strings to nibble into when its determined in.
You can check the sizes by holding the boring tool before the screw, and watch that the screw s shank
is no thicker. Cordless screwdrivers all have hexagonal tosses, so guarantee you select a boring tool

Introduction
If you want to further your education there are a few thing you need to know about the experiences
that come along with been a first time college student. The time spent in college is a fond of memory
and happy experiences; nevertheless it can be stressful and challenging. Some may say that college
was easy but for me I know from experience that only the strong will survive in college. There are so
many issues that people students deal with in college. You will think it s a smooth ride and everything
supposes to be in order. In my opinion it s a learning experience, but a college student thinks it s a
nightmare. You have to be headstrong, if not you won t like it and eventually drop out. There several
issue that affect the Higher Education system. Some of these issues Higher include financial aide,
administration, and preparation for workforce and career readiness. Student loans are one of the
biggest issues that affect college student s nationwide especially low income African American college
student. Education is facing a lot of issues from tuition cost to drop out rate due to college student s

History of Gun Control in America
Introduction When it comes to controversial topics in today s society, there are so many that it can be
difficult to be a straight shooter. Among all of them, however, debate over gun control has been
prevalent for so long, it is something many people can easily set their sights on. It is an issue
everybody should have an opinion on, as it is vastly important, potentially threatening, and all too
present in modern society. Many find the mere concept of gun control invasive to their constitutional
rights, while others see lack of gun control to be astoundingly dangerous and entirely chimerical.
Protection of oneself and their rights may or may not be more important than hundreds of lives lost
potentially due to fairly unrestricted gun ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Increases in gun control were slight from then until the 1960 s, a decade bejeweled with peace
movements. Landmark events such as the emerge of vast controversy of America s war with Vietnam
and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy encouraged broad legislation in favor of gun
control. During this time period, Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson s seized advantage of the nation s
opinions, and won passage of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 and the Gun
Control Act of 1968 (History of Gun control Legislation 1). The latter became primary law for
regulating firearms, restricting felons, drug users, and the mentally ill from buying guns, expanding
gun dealers licensing and record keeping requirements, and raised the legal age for purchasing
handguns to 21.
Nearly two decades later, constituential opinions toward gun control saw a prominent shift, displaying
opposition of it. Congress passed the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986, which protected gun
dealers whom were not found to be violating multiple codes from inspections by the Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms more than once a year. The shift in opinion was not unanimous
though, and during the same year civilian ownership of machine guns built after May 19th of 1986
was banned. However, the law played no effect on firearms

Dante s Inferno And The Balance Of Power Essay
In Dante s Inferno, Dante (the poet) targets the balance of power between the papacy and empire. The
imbalance between the two is at fault of the papacy, according to Dante, which is understood to be due
to the great refusal. With the great refusal, the papacy was able to fulfill its greed for power which
ultimately resulted in Dante s exile. However, unlike other poets and other influential individuals of
his time, specifically Thomas Aquinas, Dante took the next step to show how all these sins came
together to contribute to social disorder. Dante s divine comedy infiltrates the corruption in the church
and its contribution to the political instability in Florence and even all of Italy (which was not unified)
at the time. Dante explores the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The political turmoil became further drawn out between opposition for the empire to have power or
whether the power should be held by the papacy. According to Dante and Thomas Aquinas, a
philosopher and Franciscan during Dante s time, they both agree that the church s role did not require
the amount of power they were trying to acquire. However, a lot of that changed when Pope Celestine
V abandoned his duties of the papacy which gave rise to Dante s biggest enemy, Pope Boniface VIII.
Unlike Aquinas, for Dante the biggest things were the effect on the community and the infiltration of
trust which most of his characters in the Inferno are guilty of. However the infiltration within the
church is much too widespread and personally affected Dante; in turn in his poem he has placed them
in different levels of hell to make them wish they can repent what they did on earth, as the inferno is a

Sister Act Sparknotes
The Academy showcases their annual musical. The Sister Act begins with the protagonist, Deloris,
who has ambitions of becoming the next big thing. Her life turns upside down when she catches her
significant other murdering one of his employees. In order to secure safety, the police hide her in a
convent. There, we meet the other sisters including Mother Superior who despises Deloris. However,
Deloris saved the church by reconstructing their choir. As for the murderous husband, he was caught
by the police when attending one of the mass ceremonies. The protagonist is Deloris Van Cartier who
initially wanted to pursue a singing career. Sister Mary Robert was the youngest out of the others. She
is a shy and innocent character who metamorphoses into a bold and confident sister. Unlike Sister
Mary Robert, Sister Mary Patrick is always an outgoing and spontaneous character. Mother Superior
acts as an antagonist for most of the performance. Lt. Eddie Souther is the policeman who helps
Deloris and captures the primary antagonist who is Vince LaRocca. ... Show more content on

play are the singings and the ability that every main character could hit the notes. I do not recall any
moments when the actors messed up or forgot their lines. Particularly, I was impressed by Pablo who

The Use Of Dashes In William Stafford s Traveling Through...
As humans, we are often faced with tough decisions throughout life. The way in which we make those
decisions are often painful and excruciating. William Stafford portrays this through his gloomy free
verse poem Traveling Through the Dark. Throughout the poem, Stafford use of dashes give us insight
into the mind of the driver and the relationship of life and death. The form and use of dashes allows
the reader to explore their minds and analyze what they would do in the driver s situation. Stafford
uses form and his placement of dashes to convey the theme: the toughest decisions are often the most
agonizing and challenging. Traveling Through the Dark is an free verse poem containing four line
stanzas and a couplet to end the poem. The way the poem is structured leaves us with a sense of
incompletion, as the last couplet does follow the pattern of a four line stanza. Throughout the poem,
the lines feel very connected and smooth, however, near the end in the final couplet, it feels
incomplete. This sense of incompletion represents the death of the deer as the driver pushed her over
the edge into the river (line 18). The poem is connected through ... Show more content on

Learning Activity Is Designed For Distance Education...
Constructivist or OCL Learning Activity
Learning Activity This learning activity is designed for distance education students at Anne Arundel
Community College (AACC). The activity is implemented within an online orientation course that is
being proposed for first year students at AACC to equip them with the necessary skills needed to
complete an online course. The activity of this course that will be referenced in this paper is a
discussion forum following the reading of an assigned essay. Students will be introduced to discussion
forums within the first week of the course by posting an introduction for themselves. The discussion
forum will require students to create their essay about what they believe. The students are required to
post their initial post by Wednesday so that ample time is allowed for peer s response. Students will
also be required to respond to at least two students posting in the forum.
Intended Audience and Key Objectives This activity is geared towards the students at AACC. A
majority of the students who enroll at AACC are recent high school graduates. The discussion forum
is to build on their reading and writing skills that have been developed in their education thus far. It
also assists students by informing them how to communicate with peers and instructors throughout the
course. The discussion forums are provided to eliminate the feeling of isolation within the course. The
course is a requirement for new students enrolling at AACC during their

The analysis of environmentally sensitive areas can be done on the basis of different parameters such

results. Basso et al. (2000) in their study used an integrated, multi level, approach to study the
different environmental degradation stages and the existing interactions amongst the individual
components of the landscape of the Agri basin in the Basilicata Region in Southern Italy. They
considered an Environmental Sensitive Area as a specific and delimited entity in which environmental

MEditerranean Desertification And Land USe (MEDALUS) project is one of the largest project of the
European Comission established to analyse the global and regional climate changes. The MEDALUS
model (Kosmas et al.1999) identifies regions that are environmentally sensitive area (ESAs). In this
model, different types of ESAs to desertification can be analysed in terms of various parameters such
as landforms, soil, geology, vegetation, climate, and human actions. Each of these parameters is
grouped into various uniform classes and a weighting factor is assigned to each class. Then four layers
are evaluated: soil quality, climate quality, vegetation quality, and management quality. As outlined by
Kosmas et al. (1999) and Brandt et al. (2003), the method should be reasonably simple, robust and
widely applicable; the selection of parameters to assess environmental quality must be made attending
to their availability, economy and ability to update and the system should be adaptable to the
development and refinement of the existing information content and the possible addition of new
information. The principal innovation which was brought in to the study by Kirkby et al. (1998) in
their study of MEDALUS was long term interactions with the vegetation and soil, with implications
for the way in which the surface flow and infiltration are described and distributed area wise. The
model contains four inter related sub models for the atmosphere, vegetation, soil and

Different Reactions of a Modern and Elizabethan Audience...
In the Elizabethan era, many of the issues Shakespeare included in his plays were socially accepted by
the audience. In contrast these issues are in large not accepted in today s modern society.
The first decisive opposing reactions by a modern and Elizabethan audience to a Shakespeare play
such as Othello, is the status of women in this period. Othello among other plays of its era, introduce
the idea of women as possessions.
quot;O heaven! How got she out? quot;
Here Brabantio is talking about his daughter Desdemona as if she is locked up in his prison. Later
examples of this also include Desdemona herself admitting in sorts to being a possession:
quot; How to respect you; you are the lord of all my duty...
But here s my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once more as a modern audience we find it hard to appreciate the impact a woman speaking up for
herself in this situation may have had on an Elizabethan audience. This is because in our society
women speak up fro themselves everyday and this is taken for granted.
The fact that Desdemona is given a voice is due to the controversial character of Othello. Because he
says quot;let her speak quot;, he is showing not only respect and trust for Desdemona, but also great
compassion.
This understanding maybe comes from the fact that he was once a slave himself, and has sympathy for
women because of his past experiences.
Othello is an important character in showing other divided reactions by an Elizabethan and modern
audience.
In this era slavery was widely accepted, as of course is not the case today.
Men such as Othello were extremely honoured to have a status such as a general, and again like the
fact that Desdemona has a say, a black man being a general in the army would have been a highly
unlikely event.
Still this event would have had an exciting impact on am Elizabethan audience as Shakespeare is
venturing out of the ordinary and into the unknown
This also gives a modern audience a good insight into how Shakespeare was an exceptional scripter

Dorothea Dix And Mary Lyons
During the nineteenth century, Women began to have an important role in natural rights and female
education. Dorothea Dix and Mary Lyons spent their life fighting to help better society. Dorothea Dix
was tireless in exposing mistreatment of those who were diagnosed with mental illness or who were
institutionalized in the 19th century. She helped effect change for thousands of people. Mary Lyon was
a female educator. She founded Mount Holyoke College, the first women s college. Dorothea Lynde
Dix was born on April 4, 1802, in Hampden, Maine (1). She grew up in a religious home with her two
siblings and her mother, Mary Bigelow Dix and her father, Joseph Dix. With her father being a
distributor of religious tracts, Dix had to help stich and paste them together. She did not enjoy this
chore. At the age of 12, Dix left her home and moved in with her aunt. She left to escape from an
emotionally absent mother and an abusive father (2). Dorothea Dix had a hard childhood and became
sensitive to others hardships due to the abuse of her father. After leaving, She began teaching school at
age 14. In 1819, she returned to Boston and founded the Dix Mansion, a school for girls, along with a
charity school that poor girls could attend for free. She began writing textbooks, with her most
famous, Conversations on Common Things, published in 1824 (1). She enjoyed teaching and was

A Brief Look at Field Hockey
There are hundreds of sports that are played all around the world; they are played outdoors, indoors,
and even underwater. One of these sports is hockey; hockey is played in a few ways, street, floor, ice,
and field. Although not widely televised, field hockey is popular in Canada, the United States, Eastern
Europe and regions where ice hockey is most popular. It is played in about 112 countries and is known
to be one of the top six athletic teams in the world. Though the origin of field hockey is unknown,
drawings about 4,000 years old have depicted men playing a like version of hockey in the Beni Hasan
Tombs of Egypt. Field hockey is believed to be around for about 4,000 years; after periods of time,
hockey evolved to how it is played today. In the middle ages, hockey was very popular all around
Europe, it was played in different ways and each region had a different name for it. There were many
people who were a fan of the sport, but there were also people who hated it. In the 1300 s King
Edward III of England passed a proclamation to ban the playing of hockey along with a few other
intense sports. In addition to the banning of the sport, women weren t always allowed to play field
hockey, it was considered too intense and dangerous for women to handle until the late 1800 s when it
was first introduced to British Universities. In the early 1900 s a physical education teacher by the

A wetland is an area of land that retains it water on it surface as in swamps, marshes, and bogs.
Although we would prefer to keep the wetlands they are being destroyed very rapidly. Louisiana loses
about 25 35 square miles of wetlands each year. By 2050 it s estimated that the annual loss of fishing
income due to coastal wetland erosion will be around $550 million dollars of revenue. The wetlands
are valuable in many ways. They provide fish for commercial fishing and eating. The wetlands also
act as a sponge for floodwater during storms and heavy rains. Also retaining its water during dry spells

A swamp is a wetland that has a very high concentration of woody plants. The soil has a very
lackluster drainage system and retains the majority of its water that it soaks up. Swamps are deeper
than marshes (another type of wetland) which can be about 3 feet deep. You can find a swamp on slow
moving streams, rivers, or low isolated areas. An example of an area that low and isolated would be
the Everglades in Florida, which are a massive system of wetlands. Although you may think of a

The Legality And Morality Of Abortion
The legality and morality of abortion is a huge topic in today s society. Are there ever times when it is
justified? Who has a say in the matter of whether or not it is justified? How does one know how to
justify abortion? Given a particular pregnancy, who should decide whether or not it ought to be
terminated? (Jaggar, 218) People argue over whether or not the unborn child has the right to life or
does the woman have the right to her own body. Other party s possibly involved are the state, medical
practitioners performing the abortion, and, of course, the father. There are clearly several parties that
have a stake in being involved in the decision.
In this paper I will be analyzing an article written by one woman that believes that there do exist
conditions under which the termination of a pregnancy could be justified. Furthermore she believes
that the right to that decision making belongs to the woman bearing the unborn child. In her article she
choses not to include utilitarian arguments for two reasons, first because, according to her, most of
them support her argument. Her second reason was that the main opposing utilitarian argument would
likely result in the involuntary termination of pregnancies by the state for reasons of population
control in todays society. Not only are there many people that might have a say in whether or not an
abortion should be performed but also there are many circumstances that could have an impact upon
the morality of and

Essay on Theory and Practice in Post-Colonial Literatures
Theory and Practice in Post Colonial Literatures Introduction More than three quarters of the people
living in the world today have had their lives shaped by the experience of colonialism. It is easy to see
how important this has been in the political and economic spheres, but its general influence on the
perceptual frameworks of contemporary peoples is often less evident. Literature offers one of the most
important ways in which these new perceptions are expressed and it is in their writing, and through
other arts such as painting, sculpture, music, and dance that the day to day realities experienced by
colonized peoples have been most powerfully encoded and so profoundly influential. What are post

This is because there is a continuity of preoccupations throughout the historical process initiated by
European imperial aggression. We also suggest that it is most appropriate as the term for the new cross
cultural criticism which has emerged in recent years and for the discourse through which this is
constituted. In this sense this book is concerned with the world as it exists during and after the period
of European imperial domination and the effects of this on contemporary literatures. So the literatures
of African countries, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Caribbean countries, India, Malaysia, Malta,
New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Pacific Island countries, and Sri Lanka are all post colonial
literatures. The literature or the USA should also be placed in this category. Perhaps because of its
current position of power, and the neo colonizing role it has played, its post colonial nature has not
been generally recognized. But its relationship with the metropolitan centre as it evolved over the last
two centuries has been paradigmatic for post colonial literatures everywhere. What each of these
literatures has in common beyond their special and distinctive regional characteristics is that they
emerged in their present form out of the experience of colonization and asserted themselves by
foregrounding the tension with the imperial power, and by emphasizing their differences from the
assumptions of the imperial centre. It is this

How Technology Has Changed The World Today
In this research paper i will be talking about bridges and their importance to the world today. I will
also go into detail on how bridges were in the past and how the first bridges were made by nature. I
will compare bridges from the past to how technology has changed the way bridges are built today in
the modern era. The more we advance in technology the more ca pabilities we have too make bridges
that support so much more weight. As the improvements are made bridges are just becoming safer and
more reliables. I will mention 5 different kinds of bridges the beam bridge, arch bridge, cantilever
bridge, cable stayed bridge, and the suspension bridge. I will go into depth on how each one of these
bridges it s designed and the purpose of that certain bridge.
Bridges
Bridges they come in many different shapes and sizes every bridge has a purpose and is unique in it s
own way. A bridge is a structure that provides a passageway over obstacles such as rough terrain,
valleys or bodies of water by stretching across these obstacles. There are many dif ferent kinds of
bridges and they all serve a purpose. A lot of people rely on a bridge on a daily basis and they have to
put their faith in the engineer that designed the bridge and hope that the bridge is safe. I will go into
detail about the origins of bridges, the different types of bridges, and how shapes help support the
structure of the bridge.

Too Much to Bear in The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien
Too Much to Bear The things I carry are both figurative and literal. I carry a pen, a pencil, a textbook
or two, and paper. I carry memories, experiences, pain, guilt, cowardice, love and happiness. In the
novel The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien, O Brien centralizes on why people carry what they
do, physical or not. To be honest, I carry what I do because I must. If I don t carry that one textbook
that one day, I ll regret it. If I forget what it was like have my first icecream cone, what if felt like the
instant my mouth froze up and the inside of my head pounded so loudly I almost screamed, I will be
less of who I am today. What I carry defines me. In the novel, the tangible and intangible loads the
soldiers carry define them; such as Lt. Cross s who carry s a picture of and intangible feelings for
Martha. What the soldiers burdened themselves with was largely determined, emotionally or
physically, was by necessity. The tangible objects depicted in the book are especially relevant. The
author s style of writing is very elaborate only because he wants the readers to discern sympathy
towards the soldiers. The author tells us about the weight of the objects each of the soldiers carry to
supplement our overall total lasting impression. O Brien says in the first chapter, he recounts the literal
objects each soldier carried. As PFCs or Spec 4s, most of them were common grunts and carried the
standard M 16 gas operated assault rifle. The weapon weighed 7.5 pounds

The Importance Of Crime Prevention Through Environmental...
Crime Prevention through Environmental design s efforts to alter the physical design of an area to
impact the results of crime. Modern crime prevention roots in architectural design from the 1950s
1970s. Changes in the physical layout of an area increase the difficulty of an individual committing a
crime as well as raising the chances of an offender being caught. Crime prevention through
environmental design is when the physical design of an environment influences positive behavior. In
the Dark
Crime is a social problem that affects most people in one way or another, whether the offender or
victim. Crime then generates a fear in people as a result of serious threats like murder, rape, break ins
and theft. As crime rates sky rockets more cities are requiring crime prevention features when building
a new project.
Crime Prevention through environmental design has been a successful method of crime control. Cpted
is consistent with problem oriented policing in that it leads to design proactive strategies for solutions
and accountability, considers a variety of problems, not only just for crime, engages not only with
citizens but with governmental officials and local agencies, and lastly a systematic analysis of crime
events and their conditions. Cpted makes design that offer protection without making people feel like
they have to resort to the prison camp approach. Crime prevention through Environmental design was

Greek Unity In The Early 5th Century BC
In this essay I will show that Greek unity was barely present in the early 5th century BC, and that the
poleis involved in either the Ionian revolt(499 494BC) or the Persian invasion of Greece(480 479BC)
were acting largely in their own self interest. Herodotus in particular overly emphasises the degree to
which the Greeks were concerned about liberty in regard to Persian rule, and the extent of any
common Greek identity between the cities. For many cities, the reality was that they were massively
under equipped to deal with meeting the Persian army in battle. Thessaly was placed directly in the
path of the land army which was marching to the south, their stated aim being revenge on Athens, and
could not hope for victory against them. The words of the men sent to ask for aid are revealing: you
cannot compel us to fight your battle for you , suggesting that the Thessalians believed Athens was the
cause, and that they did not feel any sense of kinship or unity with them. Clearly the Thessalians
sought to protect their own interests, for if there was any notion of unity involved, surely the
Thessalians would have stood and fought rather than allowing the Persians to progress unimpeded.
Other cities presumably felt the same way, for example, the leading families in Thebes are depicted as
giving advice to the Persians. Yet others have had their reputation tarred in the Athenian effort to boost
their own prestige. Corinthian sailors supposedly fled Salamis, and the troops at

Culture is too often cited as a defence against human rights by authoritarians who crush culture
domestically when it suits them. In any case, which country can truly claim to be following its
traditional culture in a pure form? None have remained in a pristine state; all have been subject to
change and distortion by external influence, both as a result of colonialism and through participation
in modern inter state relations. You cannot follow the model of a modern nation state cutting across
tribal boundaries and conventions, and then argue that tribal traditions should be applied to judge the
human rights conduct of that modern state.
There is nothing sacrosanct about culture anyway. Culture is constantly evolving in any living society,
responding to both internal and external stimuli, and there is much in every culture that societies quite
naturally outgrow and reject. Are we, as Indians, obliged to defend, in the name of our culture, the
practices of sati or of untouchability? The fact that slavery was acceptable across the world for at least
two thousand years does not make it acceptable to us now.
The basic problem with cultural relativism is that it subsumes all members of a society under a
framework they may prefer to disavow. If dissenters within each culture are free to opt out and to
assert their individual rights for example, Muslim women in my country, India, have the

Symbolism In The Masque Of The Red Death
The Secrets of Stories Where there is fright and fear, there is confusion and consequences. In The
Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe, a pestilence, Red Death, is roaming free. Prince
Prospero and the other nobles decided to block out the disease by staying in the prince s palace and
have a masquerade ball. No one is allowed in or out, but everyone is struck with terror knowing that
death is coming sometime. The short story was crafted with care, so the literary elements contribute to
the picture created at the end. Irony and symbolism leave the largest footprint on Poe s literature,
especially The Masque of the Red Death. When the components of symbolism and irony bond
together, fiction becomes reality by conveying the message that the amount of money and protection

Like after several months of staying in the palace, Poe mentions ...the brazen lungs of the clock a
sound which was clear and loud...but of so peculiar a note and emphasis that at each lapse of an hour,
the musicians...were constrained to pause... (4). In this quote, the clock is a meaningful object and
represents the abstract idea of time the nobles have left before their last breath. The pause is what
indicates the fear and significance; this illustrates they know their money and the walls enclosing them
are not enough to avoid the spreading sickness. Symbolism is also another route writers take when
trying to express personal thoughts or opinions towards the story, ideas presented, or the moral as
well. Poe seems to have dark approaches to many of his stories, which displays a powerful dislike
towards the end of life. The puzzle pieces fit together due to the fact that Edgar Allan Poe dealt with
pain, suffrage, and many losses during his lifetime. For example, the Red Death, the disease, is a
representation of tuberculosis.

Ever since Will has been hiding behind his hair and scruffy facial hair, Louise has wanted to cut it:
You could cut your hair. It makes you look like some kind of vagrant (Moyes 96). By referring to Will
as a vagrant, Louise convinces Will to finally cut his hair. By doing so, Will is revealed in a way
Louise never really understood. There is a scar on his forehead that she never knew about. The cutting
of Will s hair also made him see the world in a different light, literally. Instead of being stuck behind a
dark shadow of hair, Will is able to see more light. These small differences make a big difference
when it comes down to if he chooses to commit suicide or not. The scissors itself is a temptation to
Will. If he gets his hands on it, he could potentially kill himself. The scissors is a devil living on
earth (Personification).By allowing Louise to cut his hair, Will is taking a step in the right direction.
He is showing trust in someone when he has all the reasons not to, after the incident. For these
reasons, a scissors is necessary for the plot of the story to make sense.
Will is the opposite of an open book. He is hard to understand, but with the three important objects,

  • 2. Psychology of the Unconscious Introduction Through the different processes of social attachment and detachment, individuals are shaped and influenced because of the way people and entities become connected in our shared worlds (Redman, 2008a, p. 181). These processes are important mechanisms by which collective worlds and the individuals who reside in these worlds are created (Redman, 2008b, p. 4). From a psychoanalytic point of view, sociologists suggest that these social attachments happen through processes that are, to some extent, unconscious (The Open University, 2014a). These processes, which range from thoughts and feelings to impulses and emotional textures, are not easily available to conscious reflection. However, the effects of unconscious activity can be located in conscious thought and witnessed in human interactions (Redman and Whitehouse Hart, 2008, p. 60). These unconscious processes mediate our personal awareness of social worlds by translating the individuals and entities we encounter in the outer world into forms that resonate with internal experiences, preoccupations, fantasies and senses of self other relationships (Chodorow, 1999, cited in Redman, 2008a, p. 177). This assignment will explore how social worlds are mediated by unconscious processes using research surveillance from the television programme Big Brother , the Northern Ireland Troubles and the case of Victoria Climbié. Furthermore, it will outline some potential criticisms of this claim. Transference, projection, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To do this, they operate themselves by implementing and executing an array of growth strategies. The first strategy that Domino s executes on is concentration strategy. This strategy consists of a basic principle in which a business or company does one thing and does this one task very well. There are three sub strategies underneath the concentration strategy and the first one is known as product development. The product development strategy means that a company sells a new product in the same market. Domino s is using the product development strategy by selling new types of pizza, the thin crust and deep dish, along with the pasta bowls, chicken wings, and deserts to the same market of pizza consumers. This strategy allows Domino s to diversify and strengthen their menu while appealing to a larger market of people that not only enjoy eating pizza but also other entrée s that Domino s has implemented into their menu. He lived in San Antonio, Texas and was in a band with Shelly Laras, a singer, and she introduced him to Selena y los Dinos. In Huston, Texas Shelly s band was playing at a festival and A.B. Quintanilla, Selena s brother saw Chris playing guitar and liked Chris s guitar skills. During that time Selena y los Dinos was looking for a new guitarist and A.B. gave Chris his number just so Chris can call him if he was interested. Chris called A.B and set up a date to play together in the studio, since that day happened Chris joined los Dinos. Chris was never close to Selena the only interaction he has with her was on stage when he played the guitar. The most interaction he had with her was talking to her to know what songs and they were going to be performed. On the trip back from Acapulco Selena sat next to Chris and held his hand when he was freaking out because he was on an airplane. Since that moment Chris felt like he had a special connected with Selena. Once they were on tour they kept a secret relationship going on nobody knew about this relationship. (Webster Online Dictionary) Cuba is rich and full of cultural backgrounds that influence its decision making for present and future regional affairs. Political parties as well as celebrity affairs heavily influence today s society. Political Influence President Raul Castro of Cuba met with President Obama of the United States at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The two leaders spoke of the importance of normalization between both countries and how it can benefit future economical businesses. President Obama made it clear that the embargo for trade is going to change to a hassle free trade between the two countries and in support of human rights in Cuba. Cuba has opened up their borders for U.S companies, allowing U.S investors to physically step foot on country for travel and open up business in Cuba. In August, the American Flag rose over the U.S Embassy in Cuba for the first time in more than half a century. In July, Cuban officials inaugurated their embassy in Washington. (Halimah Abdullah, 2015) Political influences as such are more than enough to change cultural aspects for brother/sister allies. President Castro has made much of his term serving for the greater good of the Cuban population. He met with President Nieto of Mexico to address policy letters for trade, diplomacy, fishing, tourism, business, migration, education and human trafficking. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on Proposed Revisions to the Army Tattoo Policy Although tattoos represent a variety of things in a person s life, they don t necessarily dictate how well a person is able to perform their job. For the last few months, there has been an ongoing debate about troops in the Army that have tattoos, and as a result their careers have been placed on the line. With this upcoming change, it has been specifically said that troops cannot have tattoos that extend below their knees and above their elbows and ones that reach above their neckline. Sgt. Maj. Raymond Chandler argues that tattoos cannot be racist, extremist, or sexist. If the tattoo violates that then they will have to get it removed (Freedberg). While it is assumed that this is limited to new recruits, it will also be applied to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the time the Army gained a large number of troops, but what they failed to realize was that they enlisted more troops than they needed. This is when the proposed revision to the grooming policy came up for discussion. With the new revisions tattoos won t be the only thing up for discussion; hair, makeup, and piercings will be too (Dallet). In a recent article there was a discussion about an off duty troop who was unshaven, and had on torn clothes who had a piercing. While he was out and about on the military base, he was seen by a few Airmen and who quickly labeled the Army as The Ghetto Service . This assumption gave the impression that the Army let anyone who wanted to enlist in. This relates back to the army tattoo policy, because I feel that the Army is placing those that have tattoos in the same category as those Airmen. Chandler took that situation as an insult and this is when he decided that it was time to fix this. At this time the troops have the First Amendment to back them on this issue at hand. The amendment gives them the right to express their freedom of speech. As I previously stated there wasn t a specific way that your speech had to be expressed. So it all boils down to the question if the army is discriminating against their troops, or they just won t deal with tattoos. An example of a troop exercising his right was where Gunja talks about how Kalsi, the first Sikh soldier to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When or if they died they would be thrown overboard the ship and fed to the sharks. If they did make it they would be forced to do hard labor without pay and very little food. They were given poor sleeping conditions. When the slaves were brought from Africa they were auctioned to the buyers and were split up from their families, and they were treated unfairly. Some academics speculate, based on existing accounts, that this election was conducted amongst a small group of tribal leaders who actively prevented Ali s participation by involving him with the task of caring for a dying Muhammad. Some even task Abu Bakr and Omar s children (including Aisha) with distracting Ali to the point of intentional obstruction. This remains the primary disagreement between Sunni and Shi a Islam. Tribalism is really important to remember here and goes back to our point about Islamic solidarity still being a new concept. The Arabian Peninsula had been filled with smaller ... Type 1 Vs Type 2 Supernova A supernova is a marvelous thing that happens in space, and scientists are trying to use these explosions of stars to learn more about our expanding galaxy with the debris and elements that explode from the supernova, the largest explosion in space which can outshine many galaxies. Since the stars is a large distance away, when the supernova does happen, it would have actually happened a couple hundred years ago, because the light takes many years to reach our eyes. A supernova can happen in two different ways, known by a Type 1 supernova and a Type 2 supernova. I believe that inclusion in the classroom is beneficial for all students because it adds depth and culture to your class and teach a different aspect of life than what comes from curriculum. Inclusion in education is when children with and without disabilities participate and learn together in the same class. One law that provides rights to students is the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004, which is a law guaranteeing special education services to all children with disabilities in the United States. Then there is the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, which is a United States Act of Congress that is a reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which included Title I, the government s flagship aid program for disadvantaged students, increased the concentration of educators and parents to help each other find ways to include and to also support students with an intellectual disability in the least restrictive environment ( No Child Left Behind , 2015). The issue of inequality between the rich and the poor in the process of economic development has aroused numerous discussions. However, there is no statement about its causes and consequences. The causes of inequality can be divided into three points. First, the economically distorting free market mechanism leads to inequality between the rich and the poor. Second, political, national or political parties have different policy options. Third, the politics and economy of the joint system leads to unequal deterioration. The uneven inequality is caused by the uneven distribution of political resources from the transformation of economic resources. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Many stories that contain the devil, the devil represents temptation; the story of Tom Walker is no different. Tom s interactions with Old Scratch illustrate just how disastrous greed and temptation can be. The devil identifies Tom s weakness of greed and tempts him with the thing Walker craves most in life, wealth. It is the Devil s usual place in literature to tempt other characters, often by providing some hapless character a deal too good to refuse (Wilson 50). Old Scratch uses Kidd the pirate s treasure as bait to reel Tom in, and once he got him hooked, there was no return for Tom. Old Scratch exploits Tom s weakness to the point of complete devotion of Tom s soul to him. Temptation is usually fueled by an accomplice, and in The Devil and Tom Walker it is greed and the desire for power. The devil also uses the death of Tom s wife to anchor Tom into finalizing the deal. Ultimately, temptation is what gets Tom Walker killed at the end of the story. If Tom were to put down his urges for mass amounts of wealth in the wrong way, his wife would have lived and he would also not have had his soul taken away from him in the end. With the great refusal, the papacy was able to fulfill its greed for power which ultimately resulted in Dante s exile. However, unlike other poets and other influential individuals of his time, specifically Thomas Aquinas, Dante took the next step to show how all these sins came together to contribute to social disorder. Because he says quot;let her speak quot;, he is showing not only respect and trust for Desdemona, but also great compassion. This understanding maybe comes from the fact that he was once a slave himself, and has sympathy for women because of his past experiences. Othello is an important character in showing other divided reactions by an Elizabethan and modern audience. In this era slavery was widely accepted, as of course is not the case today. • 36. Essay on Theory and Practice in Post-Colonial Literatures Theory and Practice in Post Colonial Literatures Introduction More than three quarters of the people living in the world today have had their lives shaped by the experience of colonialism. It is easy to see how important this has been in the political and economic spheres, but its general influence on the perceptual frameworks of contemporary peoples is often less evident. Literature offers one of the most important ways in which these new perceptions are expressed and it is in their writing, and through other arts such as painting, sculpture, music, and dance that the day to day realities experienced by colonized peoples have been most powerfully encoded and so profoundly influential. What are post colonial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because there is a continuity of preoccupations throughout the historical process initiated by European imperial aggression. We also suggest that it is most appropriate as the term for the new cross cultural criticism which has emerged in recent years and for the discourse through which this is constituted. In this sense this book is concerned with the world as it exists during and after the period of European imperial domination and the effects of this on contemporary literatures. So the literatures of African countries, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Caribbean countries, India, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Pacific Island countries, and Sri Lanka are all post colonial literatures. The literature or the USA should also be placed in this category. Perhaps because of its current position of power, and the neo colonizing role it has played, its post colonial nature has not been generally recognized. But its relationship with the metropolitan centre as it evolved over the last two centuries has been paradigmatic for post colonial literatures everywhere. What each of these literatures has in common beyond their special and distinctive regional characteristics is that they emerged in their present form out of the experience of colonization and asserted themselves by foregrounding the tension with the imperial power, and by emphasizing their differences from the assumptions of the imperial centre. It is this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. How Technology Has Changed The World Today In this research paper i will be talking about bridges and their importance to the world today. I will also go into detail on how bridges were in the past and how the first bridges were made by nature. I will compare bridges from the past to how technology has changed the way bridges are built today in the modern era. The more we advance in technology the more ca pabilities we have too make bridges that support so much more weight. As the improvements are made bridges are just becoming safer and more reliables. I will mention 5 different kinds of bridges the beam bridge, arch bridge, cantilever bridge, cable stayed bridge, and the suspension bridge. I will go into depth on how each one of these bridges it s designed and the purpose of that certain bridge. Bridges Bridges they come in many different shapes and sizes every bridge has a purpose and is unique in it s own way. A bridge is a structure that provides a passageway over obstacles such as rough terrain, valleys or bodies of water by stretching across these obstacles. There are many dif ferent kinds of bridges and they all serve a purpose. A lot of people rely on a bridge on a daily basis and they have to put their faith in the engineer that designed the bridge and hope that the bridge is safe. I will go into detail about the origins of bridges, the different types of bridges, and how shapes help support the structure of the bridge. • 38. Too Much to Bear in The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien Too Much to Bear The things I carry are both figurative and literal. I carry a pen, a pencil, a textbook or two, and paper. I carry memories, experiences, pain, guilt, cowardice, love and happiness. In the novel The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien, O Brien centralizes on why people carry what they do, physical or not. To be honest, I carry what I do because I must. If I don t carry that one textbook that one day, I ll regret it. If I forget what it was like have my first icecream cone, what if felt like the instant my mouth froze up and the inside of my head pounded so loudly I almost screamed, I will be less of who I am today. What I carry defines me. In the novel, the tangible and intangible loads the soldiers carry define them; such as Lt. Cross s who carry s a picture of and intangible feelings for Martha. What the soldiers burdened themselves with was largely determined, emotionally or physically, was by necessity. The tangible objects depicted in the book are especially relevant. The author s style of writing is very elaborate only because he wants the readers to discern sympathy towards the soldiers. The author tells us about the weight of the objects each of the soldiers carry to supplement our overall total lasting impression. O Brien says in the first chapter, he recounts the literal objects each soldier carried. As PFCs or Spec 4s, most of them were common grunts and carried the standard M 16 gas operated assault rifle. • 40. The Importance Of Crime Prevention Through Environmental... Crime Prevention through Environmental design s efforts to alter the physical design of an area to impact the results of crime. Modern crime prevention roots in architectural design from the 1950s 1970s. Changes in the physical layout of an area increase the difficulty of an individual committing a crime as well as raising the chances of an offender being caught. Crime prevention through environmental design is when the physical design of an environment influences positive behavior. In the Dark Crime is a social problem that affects most people in one way or another, whether the offender or victim. Crime then generates a fear in people as a result of serious threats like murder, rape, break ins and theft. As crime rates sky rockets more cities are requiring crime prevention features when building a new project. Crime Prevention through environmental design has been a successful method of crime control. Cpted is consistent with problem oriented policing in that it leads to design proactive strategies for solutions and accountability, considers a variety of problems, not only just for crime, engages not only with citizens but with governmental officials and local agencies, and lastly a systematic analysis of crime events and their conditions. Cpted makes design that offer protection without making people feel like they have to resort to the prison camp approach. Crime prevention through Environmental design was ... • 41. Greek Unity In The Early 5th Century BC In this essay I will show that Greek unity was barely present in the early 5th century BC, and that the poleis involved in either the Ionian revolt(499 494BC) or the Persian invasion of Greece(480 479BC) were acting largely in their own self interest. Herodotus in particular overly emphasises the degree to which the Greeks were concerned about liberty in regard to Persian rule, and the extent of any common Greek identity between the cities. For many cities, the reality was that they were massively under equipped to deal with meeting the Persian army in battle. Thessaly was placed directly in the path of the land army which was marching to the south, their stated aim being revenge on Athens, and could not hope for victory against them. The words of the men sent to ask for aid are revealing: you cannot compel us to fight your battle for you , suggesting that the Thessalians believed Athens was the cause, and that they did not feel any sense of kinship or unity with them. Clearly the Thessalians sought to protect their own interests, for if there was any notion of unity involved, surely the Thessalians would have stood and fought rather than allowing the Persians to progress unimpeded. Other cities presumably felt the same way, for example, the leading families in Thebes are depicted as giving advice to the Persians. Yet others have had their reputation tarred in the Athenian effort to boost their own prestige. Corinthian sailors supposedly fled Salamis, and the troops at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What are your perceptions on the universal declaration of human rights would you like to amend any of the articles or add a new article to the declaration? In: International Laws [Edit categories] Answer: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is half a century old, but critics are still asking whether anything in our multicultural, diverse world can be truly universal. Some ask, isn t human rights an essentially Western concept, ignoring the very different cultural, economic and political realities of the South? Can the values of the consumer society be applied to societies that have nothing to consume? Culture is too often cited as a defence against human rights by authoritarians who crush culture domestically when it suits them. In any case, which country can truly claim to be following its traditional culture in a pure form? None have remained in a pristine state; all have been subject to change and distortion by external influence, both as a result of colonialism and through participation in modern inter state relations. You cannot follow the model of a modern nation state cutting across tribal boundaries and conventions, and then argue that tribal traditions should be applied to judge the human rights conduct of that modern state. There is nothing sacrosanct about culture anyway. Culture is constantly evolving in any living society, responding to both internal and external stimuli, and there is much in every culture that societies quite naturally outgrow and reject. Are we, as Indians, obliged to defend, in the name of our culture, the practices of sati or of untouchability? The fact that slavery was acceptable across the world for at least two thousand years does not make it acceptable to us now. The basic problem with cultural relativism is that it subsumes all members of a society under a framework they may prefer to disavow. • 43. Homelessness And Poverty participants of this study. His study highlights some of the possible causes of homelessness where 63% of responders stated substance abuse as main reason of homelessness followed by 32% unemployment, 23% low paying job, and 5% as relationship/marriage breakup as the one of the reasons for homelessness. Also, from this study we can see that 52% of homeless individuals find social support by local churches and 41% from family members. As challenges and difficulties responders of this research identified inadequate sleep/fear of being arrested, police harassment and cruelty, dehumanization/lack of dignity/social embarrassment, and hunger as four main ones. Lack of sleep, dehumanization/ social embarrassment, and relationship/marriage break up can be the social factors leading to high rate of suicide among homeless population. The similar social conditions of prior becoming homeless are described in the study of Mabhala, Yohannes, Griffith, (2017) but in this study showed that becoming homeless is a process characterized by a progressive waning of resilience created by a series of adverse incidents in one s life (p. 8). Based on their study the final stage of the becoming homeless is collapse of relationships with people with whom they live and reflected in behaviors such as AoD usage and legal troubles. Also, this study confirmed that being in abusive environment is one of the causes of the homelessness. Which is opening another perspective of homelessness and high ... • 44. Symbolism In The Masque Of The Red Death The Secrets of Stories Where there is fright and fear, there is confusion and consequences. In The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe, a pestilence, Red Death, is roaming free. Prince Prospero and the other nobles decided to block out the disease by staying in the prince s palace and have a masquerade ball. No one is allowed in or out, but everyone is struck with terror knowing that death is coming sometime. The short story was crafted with care, so the literary elements contribute to the picture created at the end. Irony and symbolism leave the largest footprint on Poe s literature, especially The Masque of the Red Death. When the components of symbolism and irony bond together, fiction becomes reality by conveying the message that the amount of money and protection are false impressions when ... Like after several months of staying in the palace, Poe mentions ...the brazen lungs of the clock a sound which was clear and loud...but of so peculiar a note and emphasis that at each lapse of an hour, the musicians...were constrained to pause... (4). In this quote, the clock is a meaningful object and represents the abstract idea of time the nobles have left before their last breath. The pause is what indicates the fear and significance; this illustrates they know their money and the walls enclosing them are not enough to avoid the spreading sickness. Symbolism is also another route writers take when trying to express personal thoughts or opinions towards the story, ideas presented, or the moral as well. Poe seems to have dark approaches to many of his stories, which displays a powerful dislike towards the end of life. The puzzle pieces fit together due to the fact that Edgar Allan Poe dealt with pain, suffrage, and many losses during his lifetime. For example, the Red Death, the disease, is a representation of tuberculosis. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Several Apple competitors are IBM, HP, Compaq, Dell, Lenovo, Gateway, Acer, Fujitsu, Sony, ECS, Toshiba, etc. Strong bargaining power of suppliers creates high cost of computer components. As there is only small number of processor suppliers (e.g. Intel, AMD, Cyrix, and IBM) and only small of them has capability and willingness to provide the best for Apple, the bargaining power of supplier is high to the Apple. This condition made the price of processor component is high.
