This is mainly due to the blocking and how boring the scene often got. The majority of the scene
consisted of the characters sitting in the pews. This is the same concept for the sleeping scene. I could
not decide on whether Deloris was exhausted or awake during this scene. The strongest aspects of the

As humans, we are often faced with tough decisions throughout life. The way in which we make those
decisions are often painful and excruciating. William Stafford portrays this through his gloomy free
verse poem Traveling Through the Dark. Throughout the poem, Stafford use of dashes give us insight
into the mind of the driver and the relationship of life and death. The form and use of dashes allows
the reader to explore their minds and analyze what they would do in the driver s situation. Stafford
uses form and his placement of dashes to convey the theme: the toughest decisions are often the most
agonizing and challenging. Traveling Through the Dark is an free verse poem containing four line
stanzas and a couplet to end the poem. The way the poem is structured leaves us with a sense of

discussion forum following the reading of an assigned essay. Students will be introduced to discussion

During the nineteenth century, Women began to have an important role in natural rights and female
education. Dorothea Dix and Mary Lyons spent their life fighting to help better society. Dorothea Dix
was tireless in exposing mistreatment of those who were diagnosed with mental illness or who were
institutionalized in the 19th century. She helped effect change for thousands of people. Mary Lyon was
a female educator. She founded Mount Holyoke College, the first women s college. Dorothea Lynde
Dix was born on April 4, 1802, in Hampden, Maine (1). She grew up in a religious home with her two
siblings and her mother, Mary Bigelow Dix and her father, Joseph Dix. With her father being a
distributor of religious tracts, Dix had to help stich and paste them together. She did not enjoy this
chore. At the age of 12, Dix left her home and moved in with her aunt. She left to escape from an
emotionally absent mother and an abusive father (2). Dorothea Dix had a hard childhood and became
sensitive to others hardships due to the abuse of her father. After leaving, She began teaching school at

The legality and morality of abortion is a huge topic in today s society. Are there ever times when it is
justified? Who has a say in the matter of whether or not it is justified? How does one know how to

Too Much to Bear The things I carry are both figurative and literal. I carry a pen, a pencil, a textbook
or two, and paper. I carry memories, experiences, pain, guilt, cowardice, love and happiness. In the
novel The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien, O Brien centralizes on why people carry what they
do, physical or not. To be honest, I carry what I do because I must. If I don t carry that one textbook
that one day, I ll regret it. If I forget what it was like have my first icecream cone, what if felt like the
instant my mouth froze up and the inside of my head pounded so loudly I almost screamed, I will be
less of who I am today. What I carry defines me. In the novel, the tangible and intangible loads the
soldiers carry define them; such as Lt. Cross s who carry s a picture of and intangible feelings for
Martha. What the soldiers burdened themselves with was largely determined, emotionally or
physically, was by necessity. The tangible objects depicted in the book are especially relevant. The
author s style of writing is very elaborate only because he wants the readers to discern sympathy
towards the soldiers. The author tells us about the weight of the objects each of the soldiers carry to
supplement our overall total lasting impression. O Brien says in the first chapter, he recounts the literal

poleis involved in either the Ionian revolt(499 494BC) or the Persian invasion of Greece(480 479BC)
were acting largely in their own self interest. Herodotus in particular overly emphasises the degree to
which the Greeks were concerned about liberty in regard to Persian rule, and the extent of any
common Greek identity between the cities. For many cities, the reality was that they were massively

path of the land army which was marching to the south, their stated aim being revenge on Athens, and
