The Function Of The Song Beijing Welcomes You By Ke Zhaolei
Music can be found everywhere in our world and has many different functions. Since music is
universal it is important to understand the way describe music using terms such as timbre, pitch,
rhythm and dynamics as well as keeping in mind the social, cultural and political roles that music
falls into. The song BeijingWelcomes You is a chinese song composed by Ke Zhaolei for the 2008
Beijing olympics and features many different artists from Asia. This recorded piece of musicis a
representation of modern day chinese music as well as the incorporation of the Beijing culture.
In the song Beijing Welcomes You , there is a clear distinction that the song is sung by both female
and male artists based on the vocal timbre of the song. The vocal ... Show more content on

The pattern of the song has a beat that repeats itself at a fixed rate. In addition to the fixed rate,
the song has an accent where one beat is emphasized and this can be heard by the increased
volume of that specific note. Towards the end of the song, the melodic contour of the song can be
described as a descending melodic contour as the pitches descend from high to low. This is done
by the artist holding out their voices for a lengthened amount of time. Furthermore, the phonic
structure of this piece can be described as a monophonic piece. Monophony means that the
performers play the same pitches with the same rhythms. Even though the song incompasses a
wide varitey of instruments, the rhythm of the song stays relatively the same Another important
aspect of the song is the dynamics. The beginning of the song can be classified as a crescendo
because of the increased musical sound from the instruments, however, towards the end there is a
decrescendo as the volume falls off and the artists holds on and extends the last note. The
crescendo in the beginning of the song is interesting to note because the song starts off acapella and
gradually the volume begins to increase when the first musical instrument comes into play. Last but
not least, this piece of music contains a lot of repetition. The vocal repetition of the songs title

The Role Of Animals In Egyptian Mythology
According to the ancient myth, Seth ruled over the Upper Egypt, while Horus ruled over the
Lower Egypt. There are also other gods in Egyptian mythology that possess the animalistic
appearance. Some of the most well known examples are: Anubis, the god of embalming and the
dead, Thoth, the god of writing and knowledge, Sobek, the godof the Nile, Bastet, the protective
goddess and many other gods. All of these gods have their animal forms and manifestation, their
significance was closely connected to animals they stood for. Actually, the animal they represented
was determining the characteristics of a certain deity, for example, the birds such as hawk or ibis
were often considered the symbol of wisdom and protection. Horus, for instance, was often listed as
the protective god of the Egyptians, the one who protects the pharaoh, and he possesses the head of

returned the eye that Ra had lost, and as a reward he received the power over the night sky, that is,
the moon. It was believed that he carried the moon in his boat and transported the dead to the
underworld. Later on, Thoth received a number of other functions, became the god of time and was

Asian American Experience Through Art
The Asian American Experience Explained Through Art Introduction The United States is the
land of the free, and the home of the brave according to the song, but there is a dichotomy that
exists between those who have called the United States their home for a long period of time, and
those who are immigrating to the US. Asian Americans are a group that very few think of as
having difficulties because the stereotype is of a group that is intelligent and is actually doing
better than the average American. While this may seem to be true, better grades in a school setting
does not mean that people who come from other countries are not experiencing racism (both overt
and subtle), stereotyping and alienation in this country. Although there has been some difficulty,
many groups are experiencing newfound hope because of the actions that they are taking. The
plight, and the hope of the Asian cultures are being documented by artists of different stripes who
are eager to depict what has happened to Asians as they try to build their own America, and
assimilate into the one that was built before they came. In this paper, the Asian American cultures
will be examined through the art that has been produced over the many years that Asian people
have striven to make their way as new Americans. Searching for an Identity Leaving one s own
country and moving to another is one of the most difficult journeys anyone can make. In one s

Physics Department, Faculty of Science, Suez Canal University, Ismailia, Egypt
ABSTRACT
In the present work, PVA Ag nanocomposite films with thickness 0.18 mm, constant silvercontent
(0.4 wt. %) and with different time of reaction (0.1, 3, 5, 7, 9 h) were prepared by chemical
reduction method. Structure, surface topology, photoluminescence and electrical properties of PVA
Ag nanocomposite were studied using x ray diffraction (XRD), electrometer, atomic force
microscope (AFM) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy were used to characterize the
prepared nanocomposites. X ray patterns showed the existence of Ag nanoparticles within the PVA
polymeric matrix with face centered cube (FCC) phase. It was found that the PL intensity for all
samples increases, while the root mean square (rms) roughness decreases as the time of reaction is
increased. Current voltage characteristics were analyzed to explore carrier transport mechanisms in
Ag PVA nanocomposite and the results showed that there is an improvement in the electrical
conductivity of the PVA Ag films and Frank poole emission is the prevailing transport mechanism
for all samples.

My New Year s Resolution
This year was the same as last when it came time to make my New Year s Resolution. I set out to
exercise more and lost twenty pounds. Also like last, I haven t stuck to my plan and have given
up already. I have tried to accomplish this over the last two years because I have tons of clothes
that I can no longer fit into and it s a small amount that I feel I should be able to lose, but I seem
to always fall short. The first few weeks in January I staied solid. I was going to the gym, eating
right, but then daily life happened and I had a hard time adjusting and fitting it into my daily
routine. Plus there is after holiday gift cards for restaurants, starbucks and I am a coupon
collector; Finding good deals on food always makes it hard to pass up on things that I love to eat
when they are at such a bargain. Sometimes dieting seems a little more expensive than the
alternative. While I know it is more healthy money becomes a factory at times. I had a bad week
and then I tried to bounce back and get back on my fitness routine, and then I got hit with the flu.
How am I supposed to workout while I cant breath? I am not saying it is an excuse but it is a set
back. So after a month of disappointment I basically stopped trying so hard. I still do plan to keep
trying to finally accomplish this resolutionbut I believe it will be a slow process that I have to get
my head in and separate myself from others. Hopefully next year I can make a new resolution and
not repeat this same

Flower Symbolism In The Great Gatsby
Just a flower can mean the life or death of a relationship for two characters within a story. This
holds true for the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The meaning behind certain items
or events can prove to have a prolonged effect on certain character relationships. A specific
character relationship that is affected by these symbolic meanings is the amorous affair between the
characters Jay Gatsbyand Daisy Buchanan. Certain symbolic events such as colors, weather, and
the idea of always being watched directly affect this romance and determines the relationship status
throughout the novel. The symbolism of colors across the novel plays a major role for many of the
characters and their relationships, but they hold one of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Gatsby s stretched arms are reaching towards a green light that is on Daisy s dock across the bay at
East Egg. This green light holds significant value to him when he is not with Daisy and views
the green light as Daisy instead and the bay as the challenges that he must face to obtain her.
Once Gatsby obtains Daisy his mind is still fixated on the green light even when she is right
next to him, If it wasn t for the mist we could see your home across the bay, said Gatsby. You
always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock (Fitzgerald 92). Gatsby,
while stating this, makes a realization that the green light now holds little meeting once he
cannot see it for the fact he had the green light next to him, Daisy, Possibly it had occurred to
him that the colossal significance of that light had now vanished forever (Fitzgerald 93).
Another vital color that plays a key role within the romance is the color yellow. The color yellow
symbolizes envy. It is most present with Gatsby s car, which is yellow, when Gatsby goes to the
Buchanan residence to officially claim Daisy as his. Upon Gatsby s arrival, Tom Buchanan, Daisy
s husband, held suspicion of Daisy cheating. Once Tom hears Daisy confess her love to Gatsby

Marley And Me Theme
Marley and Me was written by John Grogan and published in 2005. The book was acknowledged
as a New York Times Bestseller and was created into a movie in 2008, that sold 247.8 million
box office tickets. Marley and Me was a heart touching, biographical story about a couple who
decided to buy a yellow labrador retriever puppy, with John Grogan as the narrator. He describes
his life with his wife, puppy and children up until the death of Marley and the lessons that Marley
taught along the way. The style of this novel was predominantly explicit, portraying the thoughts
and feelings in great detail throughout each chapter. The narrator showed a use of implicit details

Throughout the novel, Marley showed the Grogan s how terrible of a dog he was, whether it
was tearing up the house, knocking people over with his overwhelmed excitement or eating the
gold chain the narrator had bought for his wife, Jenny. Despite Marley s bad behavior and the
fact he got kicked out of obedience school, his unconditional love he had for his family and the
protection he attained regarding the Grogan s three children was irreplaceable. John Grogan
described this by stating, Like any relationship, this one has it s cost. They were costs we came
to accept and balance against the joy and amusement and protection and companionship he gave
us, (Page 265). The author used the word cost to allude to the numerous pillows Marley
shredded, scream doors he busted through and cages he ripped apart, along with the many other
disasters he caused. The costs balance with the good things Marley had to provide, meaning
although he was a dog with many problems, he had good qualities also that made up for his lack
of obedience. The protection, companionship and joy overpowered any anger they could have had
regarding Marley s actions. This quote was significant because the reader was ultimately given the
meaning and purpose of the entire book, to decipher for

How Tobacco Use Teaching Methods
Tobacco Use Teaching Methods
Introduction
Choosing the correct teaching method is important to help the learner retain and learn information
in an effective and efficient way. Tobacco use is a health related topic that needs further education
and intervention from a nurse. Group discussion and demonstration, and return demonstration are
two teaching methods of interest to me, which I believe will be beneficial to use when educating a
small group of five people about this health related topic are. Group discussion involves the
deliverance of medical information or education to a small group of individuals which may include
their family so information, opinions can be exchanged with the nurse. This is simple way to
deliver information to more than one person at one time if time management is a concern, and the
nurse is able to build trust and rapport with the group as a whole. Demonstration and return
demonstration works more effectively in a small group and involves education or teaching with
the nurse and learner(s). This method also allows time for feedback from both parties. The nurse
gives the learner a demonstration of a task to perform and the learner has to attempt to carry out
the task back showing competence, and the nurse is on standby to give cues as needed.
Group discussions Group discussions are beneficial as this teaching method is useful as it allows
the learners to share information about their personal experiences and is both economically and time

Media Science And The Abortion Debate
Abortion has always been a controversial topic whether abortion should be legalized or not for a
quite some time. It has sparked numerous debates in many countries around the world. In most
countries, abortion is legalized, yet however, there are some countries which don t allow women to
have abortions. Additionally, if done, the women will be punished by the law severely. In my
belief, I don t think abortionshould be banned, even though it s not healthy for women and their
development (reproductive wise). The consequences and results coming from not allowing abortion
would lead to many women not being able to take care of her child, and more importantly, not
giving her children a normal and healthy life. In this situation, if the government does not allow
abortion, then the children of these women children might end up becoming socially inept, leading
to depression or certain mental illnesses due to the lack of love and care from their parents.... Show

Comedy Theories
According to the Oxford dictionary Humor, is defined as: The quality of being amustic or
comic, especially as expressed in literature or speech, but what truly makes something funny?
Comedy has been around for hundreds of years; as it is being examined four concrete theories
have been developed to understand the idea of comedy: Superiority, Relief, incongruity, and
Benign Violation theory. The conception of comedy has been around since the dawn of man;
Aristophanes wrote comic plays dating back to 425 BCE, but as time progress so does comedy.
The jokes and comics we see today have changed drastically since then, and have evolved into a
new style of humor. Comedy is used by writers, playwrights, and everyday people to make life
more enjoyable and cause the greatest feeling to man... Laughter. The first theory otherwise
known as Superiority theory, is the idea that people laugh at the misfortune of others. When
people make a group of peers laugh it adds a sense of, sudden glory, to a person and allows
people to feel dominant. The bases of superiority theory is people thrive for dominance and can
use laughter to win dominance by getting everyone to admire or follow a person; by seeing
someone else have a joke played on a person makes people feel better or superior. According to
Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, this theory holds two claims: the strong claim holds that
humor involves a feelings of superiority, and the weak claim suggest that feelings of superiority

The San Fernando Mission Cemetery
Death is a subject we tend to shy away from, but why? It s a natural occurrence that happens all
the time, and it s something we cannot avoid. At least once in our lives we will attend a funeral,
but how many times will we visit the diseased once they are gone? A cemetery is a burial ground
where those who have passed away lay to rest for the rest of eternity, and it gives their loved ones a
place to go and visit them.
The San Fernando Mission Cemetery is a Catholic cemetery located in Mission Hills, ironically,
right across the street from a hospital. It is owned and operated by the Los Angeles Archdiocese
and was established in the year 1800. The cemetery provides several services including burials,
entombments, and cremations. For ground burials, they offer options such as traditional burials and
lawn crypts which can be single or double, and then there are family monuments and family estates
that can fit two to sixteen people. For mausoleum services, which hold the casket aboveground,
they offer single and double crypts (Catholic Cemeteries LA). There are a number of sections in the
cemetery that have different themes with a corresponding centerpiece. People are able to choose a
theme based on religion or characteristics they deem fitting.
This cemetery specifically is a Catholic cemetery, which makes it different from others. The people
who own it, as well as the people who use their services, believe in certain notions

How Did Roman Architecture Used To Build Colosseum
Rome was one of the last of the ancient civilizations that had the most impact on today s modern
architecture, and engineering, leaving some of the most famous monuments to this day, with this

The baths of Caracalla, Appian Roads, The Pantheon, The Famous Aqueducts, The Trajan s Forum
and learn a little about the city of Pompeii.
The Coliseum: One of the best examples of Rome architecture and engineering achievements and
still famous today is the Colosseum. Built in 72 A.D. by Emperor Vespasian, it was believed that it
required over 4,600,000 cubic feet of stone blocks set in place without cement, but held together
by 300 tons of iron clamps. The Coliseum was engineered to seat up to 50,000 spectators and was
mainly used for gladiator games and other public entertainment, such as animal battles, there was
also believed to be some sea battles, religious plays, and execution.
Circus Maximus: It was the first and the largest stadium for public games built in the entire
Roman era, and be that inspired many more like it. At over 2,000 feet long and nearly 400 feet
wide, it easily fit 150,000 spectators. known for its murderous ... Show more content on

Evidence has shown that Stalin was not a savior to Russia...
Evidence has shown that Stalin was not a savior to Russia by creating economic policies to help
with the agriculture and also modernized Russia. Stalin s plan was to make Russia an industrial
giant, so Stalin created the five year plan to work on the farms and factories of Russia. Stalin s
five year plans were a series of nation wide centralized economic plans in the Soviet Union
(Wikipedia). What that meant was that peasants who didn t have jobs were required to work on a
specific goal that Stalin had to increase what was considered as an economy booster. The first Five

Oftentimes, factories inflated their production figures, and the products created were too low in
quality to be used (Trueman). What this meant is that some of the goals were not made and the
products made were useless to sell or trade with. The Third Five Year Plan lasted for only three
years, as it was interrupted by Germany s declaration of war on the Soviet Union during World
War II. As war seemed imminent, this plan focused on the production of weapons and other
wartime materials (Trueman). The Soviet Union mainly contributed resources to the development
of weapons, and constructed additional military factories as needed. Stalin continued to use
additional Five Year Plans in the years following WWII, in an attempt keep his promise in 1945
to make the Soviet Union the leading industrial power by 1960. By 1952, industrial production
was nearly double the 1941 level. Stalin s Five Year Plans helped transform the Soviet Union from
an untrained society of peasants to an advanced industrial economy. So through out this plan of
hopefully saving Russia that Stalin has created products that could not be used and unintelligent

Assessment of Debates on Media Effects
A long history lies behind question about how communication affects or influences people. Greeks
developed sophisticated hypothesis about how to impress listeners through the spoken word and
Aristotle was concerned with theorizing the art of speaking. Even nowadays in face to face
conversations each of us mobilizes theories about how to influence our listeners. For instance, we
wish to make others understand how we feel or what we think. Today, mass communication studies

In short, if researchers had not showed some of the materials about which they were asking the
respondents to comment on, they would not normally have viewed them. Therefore, as Barker and
Petley (2001:4) conclude after a research focused on women s responses to four very different
kinds of programme, the issue is not whether depictions of violence increase the likelihood of
similar violence among potential perpetrators, but the feelings and reactions that it creates among
those who are the actual or potential victims of violence . The important point is not so much
violent representations can be the cause of world violence, as what people feel while they are
watching some kind of violent depictions.
We can also note that the media depictions of violence which the effects model typically condemns
are limited to fictional productions. As Gauntlett (1998:125) says there is no obvious reason why
the antisocial activities which are always in the news, and which frequently do not have such
apparent consequences for their agents, should not have similar effects . Most of the studies about
media effects almost always separate their discussions of entertainment from news. Turow (1999)

Romans which is a letter from Paul by reveals answers to important questions and is able to supply

foundation of Christian faith. Looking for things through the text in the Romans such as (1) the
natural world, (2) human identity, (3) human relationships, and (4) culture.
The first thing is the natural world. In the natural world it is full of sin, murder and crime are being
committed even back in Romans. During Paul s days was full of sin. We see sinners worship
the creation but to the creator. There were sins that were being committed back then that are still
being committed till this day. When reading Romans first off it was a little bit confusing at first
but after rereading it it started to become more clear that the Romans in the past worshiped many
gods. They were trying to gain the love and hopes from the people in their town. The writer of
Romans Paul wanted to cover this due to he believed he saw the issues within the Roman society
and so he addressed it with the church. He decided to point out the sins and make it more to the
graceful to the people and the church. In Romans Paul distinguished human identity as being the

Effects on the Boiling Point of water
Tymoteusz Merchel
Haupt, 5
The objective of my experiment is to identify the relationship between the definite boiling points of
distilled water, and water that has been mixed with our everyday table salt. In this experiment, the
Independent Variable will be the amount of salt I have added to the constant( our water), and the
Dependent Variable will be the boiling temperaturethat it reaches.
Introduction:
According to the Department of Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign,
adding salt to water increases the overall boiling point, thus reducing cooking time. It s important to
know that it does not actually speed up the boiling point, but increases the maximum temperature.
To prove this concept, we will be investigating How [does] the increase in salt (IDV) affect the
boiling temperature of water (DV)? .
Research Question:
How does the increase in salt (IDV) affect the boiling temperature of water (DV)?

The consumer then proceeds to act upon these urges. Compulsive consumers often engage in
compulsive buying practices to compensate for unhappy events, and/or low self esteem (O
Guinn and Faber, 1989). Some researchers consider compulsive buying to be a dichotomous
behavior (Faber and O Guinn, 1992); meaning consumers are classified either as compulsive or
non compulsive. However, research by Edwards (1993) indicates that compulsive buying, like
many other consumer behaviors, occurs on a continuum. She found that compulsive buying
ranges from non compulsive, to recreational, borderline compulsive, compulsive, and addicted
buying. In other words, consumers can experience no compulsive consumption tendencies, some
compulsive consumption tendencies, or chronic levels of this behavior. The act of buying may
temporarily elevate the mood and self esteem of a compulsive buyer; however it is often
followed by feelings of shame or depression. Wicklund and Gollwitzer (1982) stated that people
may use symbols to build or maintain a complete self definition as part of a commitment to a self
defining goal. Consumers may compulsively buy products to match their subjective perceptions of
themselves with a socially desirable or required appearance as a self defining goal (Elliott, 1994).
Number of people experience compulsive behaviors like shopping, drug abuse, eating, gambling

Analysis Of Ost Program Components ( Activities And Goals )
This research was guided by three questions that pertained to practitioner reports of OST program
components (activities and goals), rationales for the components, and use of research as a rationale.
Findings related to each question are discussed and then implications for closing the science to
practice gap are considered.
First, all 21 practitioners identified goals and activities for their programs. Common goals included
providing a safe environment and developing academic and social emotional skills. These goals are
in line with features of youth programs that can promote positive youth development (Eccles
Gootman, 2002). However, these were program level goals. Some work has shown practitioners do
not have specific goals for their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different from a strict science to practice approach to decision making, most practitioners chose
components using input from multiple other sources including stakeholders (i.e., youth and
parents), personal beliefs, and program requirements (Honig Coburn, 2008). Fun or enjoyment for
youth was the most common rationale. Whether a program is enjoyable has not typically been
included in measures of OST program quality, but perhaps it should be one. Enjoyment is a
property of engaging programs (Bohnert, Fredricks, Randall, 2010) and engagement, in turn, is
critical for attracting and retaining youth. Staff who create engaging environments tend to be youth
centered in their approach to programming and are effective listeners and observers of the youth
they serve (Larson, Walker, Pearce, 2005; Larson, Walker, Rusk, Diaz 2015).
Building skills was also a common rationale. Different from the origins of OST programs in the
U.S. as settings designed to provide supervision during the gap between the end of the school day
for youth and work day for parents (Mahoney, Parente, Zigler, 2009), programs in this study were
described as educational and development contexts aiming to augment competencies and/or reduce
risks. Indeed, most practitioners viewed youth development as a main objective alongside safety.
This is an encouraging result because, although the current study does not provide evidence that the

The Problem Of Gangs And Violence
The problem of gangs and violence are commonly found in Chicago, especially during the night
time. Although the rate seems to be lower compared to the past, the violence rate is still shocking
compared to other states. Therefore, violence in Chicago s neighborhoods and communities cannot
be overlooked. Statistics show that 1,109 school aged youth were shot, and 216 of those were
killed in 2010. As a student of UIC, I often receive crimealert emails as violencecases seemed to
occur quite often around the campus area. In order to improve the public security to ensure
residents safety, it is essential to find ways to solve these issues. It is because violence can cause
negative effects in many different aspects. Besides individual s physical well being, it may also
lead to some long term psychological problems; such as anxiety, eating and sleeping problem.
Moreover, violence also affects the communityas it became unsafe to live in. The value of the
properties will decrease because the quality of life became worse.
These days, Chicago launched a cure violence program to help prevent the violence, and this
program is managed by the Chicago Project. The social problem this community intervention is
trying to remedy is to lower down the cases of shooting and killings on the streets. As it could be
challenging to change the individuals behaviors within a short period of time, this program focuses
on developing protecting services towards the population that may have an

Martyrdom in Its Purest Form Essay example
What defines a martyr? Why is it that only few people are bestowed the honor of becoming a
martyr? A martyr is not only a person who suffers for a cause but who also loves that cause and
dies fighting for it. In the novel In the Time of the Butterflies, Julia Alvarez uses the character of
Minerva Mirabal to show what martyrdom is and that becoming a martyr is more difficult than
most think. Because of Minerva s involvement with the revolution, she has suffered the
repercussions of disobeying Trujillo and his infamous SIM; emotionally she is torn up. Then after
she suffers through as much as a person can bear, she is delivered the most severe punishment of
all, death. Minerva Mirabal proves what it is to be a martyr because... Show more content on

Instead of fighting for it, Minerva lets it go, and although she is furious, she knows that this will
leave more time for the blossoming revolt. Minerva also gives up her potential love for LГo when
he announces he must leave the country. Minerva states that I was relieved that circumstances
would be resolving things between us, (Alvarez 86) saying that even thought she liked LГo very

Because of the nearness of the revolution, Minvera knows that if she makes one wrong move or

Death of a parent and the children s experience: Don t ignore the elephant in the room
The article Death of a parent and the children s experience, is a very interesting and informative
piece. The author Rachel Fearnley, gives a powerful presentation on a child s bereavement process.
Many believe that children are unable to comprehend till the later adolescences but that death of a
parent causes many developmental issues if gone unresolved. All children handle death or loss in
different ways but according her extensive studies, all age groups displayed the same
developmental issues. The studies conducted were not only with children but in how caregivers
also approached the bereavement children. The evidence from the current research would suggest
that there is a stigma attached to talking about death and dying and that practitioners find it difficult
and embarrassing to discuss such topics. This sequestration leads to a pattern of communicating
that avoids any involvement of such unmentionable vocabulary. Additionally, within social work
practice, it has been highlighted that practitioners are frequently required to talk with children
about complicated and painful issues and during uncertain times in their lives (Lefevre et al., 2008,
p. 171). The need for

a child and tried to change George into her father. Although Hedda tried to gain control over her

Hedda tries to gain superiority over George s aunt, Aunt Julie. Aunt Julie is the person that
raised George. In a conversation George once had with his aunt he said, You, who ve been a

Parathyroid Carcinoma Research Paper
Abstract
Parathyroid carcinoma is a rare form of endocrine malignancy accounting for only a small minority
of cancer cases. Due to the rarity of this cancer, there are no generalized guidelines for its
management; however, surgery remains to be the mainstay therapy. The purpose of this article is to
review and summarize the available literature on parathyroid carcinoma, while discussing proposed
staging systems and the role of available adjuvant therapies.

Nevertheless, it should be assumed that the postoperative follow up for patients with parathyroid
carcinomas should be more frequent than for those with adenomas. Recurrence is generally
indicated by elevated calcium and PTH levels [14] and [76]. After laboratory findings indicate
recurrence, a thorough imaging work up should be performed with the intention of localizing the
site of recurrence. These imaging modalities include ultrasound, whole body sestamibi scan,
whole body CT, MRI or PET scan and bone scan. In case of inconclusive results from the above
mentioned studies, more invasive techniques may be utilized including arteriography or selective
venous sampling with measurement of PTH [2], [5], [7] and [60]. Furthermore, unlike in the
primary diagnosis where FNA is avoided, the use of FNA to diagnose recurrence of parathyroid
carcinoma is utilized, and can help differentiate between recurrent malignancy and scar tissue [21].
Once recurrent disease has been localized, the best possible treatment is repeated surgical
resection, due to lack of other effective treatments. Re explorations may be very difficult due to
dense scar tissue and lack of clear anatomical planes

The Long Term Effectiveness Of Prolonged Exposure Therapy
Literature Review
Existing controlled examinations of intervention efficacy specific to only sexual assault and rape
are presently minimal in comparison to intervention examinations of combination or other types of
trauma (Regehr, Alaggia, Dennis, Pitts, Saini, 2013). Psychotherapeutic interventions that fail to
differentiate sexual assault and rape victims from other types of trauma victims may decrease the
treatment effectiveness or inadvertently harm participants in this subgroup. Trauma associated
from rape or sexual assault differs from other forms of trauma and treatment efficacy should be
examined in this manner. Trauma from rape or sexual assault entail symptoms of PTSD,
depression, suicidal ideations and sexual dysfunction. Individuals may also indicate feelings of
vulnerability, loss of control, fear, shame, self blame, societal blame and stigma (Russell Davis,
2007; Regehr et al., 2013; Ullman Peter Hagene, 2014). This research proposal intends to explore
the long term effectiveness of Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) at reducing distress and trauma
explicitly for adult victims of sexual assault and rape.
Prolonged exposure (PE) is a specific exposure therapy program that derives from Emotional
Processing Theory (EPT). The idea of emotional processing is to interpret realistic information and
accommodate that information into a fear structure which in turn diminishes the fear (Foa, 2011).
Foa (2011) acknowledges that the idea of failing to process trauma is

Election Day, President Of The United States
During election day, millions of Americans are going to cast their vote for who they want to be
the next president of the United States. Except is a lot more complicated than it seems. The
electoral college is the collection of 538 delegates that have the power to determine who the next
president will be; the number of total representatives in the House and Senate. These 538 votes
aren t given to the citizen directly, but they are instead divided among the 50 states in America.
Currently, people are suggesting who their state should pick for president. Simply put, if a state
has a majority of votes for one candidate, (however small the majority is) that candidate gets all
the electoral votes from said state; winner takes all. So, a candidate must win over half of the voting
population in enough states to get the majority of electoral votes to win the election. But that s not
all, these said electors aren t nailed down to vote for who their state constituents want at all;
millions of votes can be thrown in the trash and forgotten forever.
Many believe the Electoral College s votes protect the states that have small populations from the
large populations states and in turn candidates will have to give more attention to small states. If
this was true, it is being executed horrifically. Candidates are visiting, advertising, and
campaigning more and more in swing states. In other words, the electoral college doesn t make
candidates care about small states, or even big states.

The First World War
The first world war was one of the most brutal and remorseless events in history; the global
conflict that defined a century . Over nine million soldiers and a large amount of innocent
civilians lost their lives. Empires crumbled, revolution engulfed Russia and America rose to
become a dominant world power. Huge armies deployed new weapons of devastating effect from
rifles and pistols to torpedoes and flame throwers. These weapons were used not only in the
trenches but by tanks too. This was an advantage to those who were able to access such machinery
as they could easily launch bullets and missiles at nearby enemy bases. The downfall of the tank
was the fact it was unable to cross the trenches. Tanks were not the only pieces of equipment that
could access this machinery but U boats and planes too. The British carried bolt actionrifles in
which fired 15 rounds per minute at a minimum range of 1,400 metres away. This allowed the
British to take out foes at a far greater range. By using machinery in which rules out the need for
getting up close to the enemy was a great advantage during world war one. Soldiers ran from
trench to trench attacking with all that they had. This resulted in a massacre as the soldiers running
toward the trenches were shot down. Machinery such as machine guns and heavy artillery were the
weapons used in the trenches. In modern day society, machine guns are the main weapons used by
soldiers. This wasn t the case around the 1914s. They took four

Head Hair In Ancient Egypt
In Ancient Egypt, head hair was commonly associated with one s age and wealth where a
shaven head with a small curl at the side of the head would indicate a youth, while wigs were
worn by older people to conceal their greying or lack of hair. As for China, hairstyles were not an
easily changeable outlet for personal expression, but rather a symbol of everything from status
to ethnicity to political ideals until the recent years after 1970s. In the ancient times, Confucius
s philosophy of Filial Piety was deeply rooted in the mindsets of the people, and stated that one s
body, hair and skin was granted by parents. Thus, it was considered extremely disrespectful to cut
head hair. And in the Tang Dynasty, hairdos with different shapes evolved into a symbol of class
status. Hairstyles were also used as an indicator of a woman s marriage status; an unmarried
woman wore her hair down or tied in a single braid, while a married woman usually had her hair up
in coils or a knot. In Africa, hairstyles were seen as a representation of one s tribe. Different styles
hold different meanings to each tribe. The Masai warriors wore headdresses, spent hours braiding
each other s hair and dyed their hair red. Women would shave their heads when they are married
to symbolise a new beginning. Mangbetu women braided their hairs into a cone shaped basket,

Empiricism In Dracula And Frankenstein
The Enlightenment or Age of Reason , was a period roughly around 1685 to 1815 during which,
movements such as the rise of empiricism, natural philosophy and modern scientific inventions
were quite prevalent especially preceding and during the Victorian era. Literature written within the
Victorian period of 1837 to 1901 was largely influenced by these movements and often portrayed an
opposition or alignment towards them. Dracula and Frankenstein can be great examples, both
written during, or slightly after The Enlightenment and Victorian era, while being great examples of
Gothic Fiction . As such, today s discussion will summarize the way in which Victorian literature
specifically Dracula and Frankenstein were both influenced by movements during the The
Enlightenment . Foremost, rationalism was overshadowed by empiricism during this time period.
Rationalism a philosophy which relied on reason and knowledge was opposed by an emerging
philosophy known as empiricism. Empiricism resonated with many individuals during The
Enlightenment because it stated that, knowledge is acquired through observation and sensory of an
individual the basis on which science and therefore The Enlightenment was built on. Consequently,
this theme is often visited throughout Dracula and Frankenstein. For instance, in Dracula, page

The first definition mentions external environment to adapt. The second one declares the
maximization of productivity. Both are important points. By combining the two definitions, the
fullest meaning about workforce flexibility and its advantages will be drawn out.
3. Model explanation: Figure 1 Atkinson model workforce flexibility
To reflect the workforce flexibility, Atkinson (1894) came up with the model which also
comprises ways in which flexibility can be shown. Flexibility can be seen on part time jobs. This
is applied for many employees being students at school in both Vietnam and other countries. This
kind of employee need time for studying and still consider them to be able to contribute to labor
force for extra money. Part time job is one of the choices when employers only have to spend
fewer hours compared to full time jobs of working (Dutta, n.d). Or employees can seek for job
sharing workplace in which 2 people share the same job/task. Job sharing is basically a form of part
time work that provides staff with the equivalent of one full time employee while giving the job
sharing employees the ability to keep their careers on track while allowing more time for family
responsibilities or other activities (Entrepreneur, n.d). Working under these kinds of jobs gives
employees enough time to balance all their commitments. In other words,

3.1.2 Corruption
Another important cause of unemployment in Bosnia and Herzegovina is corruption. At the end of

One of these organizations is Transparency International organization. According to Transparency
International, Bosnia and Herzegovina is represented as the one of the most corrupted and the most

places Bosnia and Herzegovina as the 5th country on the list of corrupted countries. During last four
years, this country records constant decrease in global corruption rate because the other countries
involved in this survey showed high increase in corruption rate. Moreover, Divjak (2012) states that
this country did not make any improvement or decline in corruption rate, so it represents stagnation
in economy. Although the decrease is finally stopped, the result is disappointing because there is no
desire of the government to overcome the corruption. According to Tomas (2004, p.141.)

Post Impressionism Art Analysis
The Impression of Post Impressionism Art
The Impressionism era was a very important movement in the history of art. The artists
under that movement were not very popular since the style was very different. The product of
Impressionism, Post Impressionism has a more distorted, expressive style because their rules in
terms of content were more free. I will compare and contrast the paintings of this era, Houses at

The work of art Houses at Auvers by Vincent van Gogh was made after he left the

short amount of time (the end of 1888 1890) because he became bored. As a result, he moved to
Auvers sur Oise, northwest of Paris. There, he painted Houses at Auvers in June of 1890 which
was one of several works of art made before his suicide in the same year.
Houses at Auvers depicts a landscape of early summer in Auvers sur Oise. It s medium,
like most paintings in this era, is oil on canvas. In this work of art, viewers can see that the
function is for the visual aesthetic, since Van Gogh was really embracing his surroundings by
how he painted it. He used a lot of different values of color, especially the greens in the trees,
grass, and bushes. Lines and brushstrokes

Suc Communal Narcissism Theory
In comparison, narcissists to other narcissists to some degree they all share similarities regardless
of which category they apply. When deciding the abilities individually that we have compared to
others, concepts of social comparison theories are made (Aronson, et al., 2016). For instance,
communal narcissist experiences the qualities of those that are known as narcissists. Regardless, of
having a distinct name for narcissist the theory remains that their thoughts and actions are based on
the same level of understandings. However, differences can be noted through a larger view of
oneself given examples such as their levels of assertiveness, competence, and authority, yet their
thoughts remain as selfishness. Communal narcissismthoughts remain on the level that continues to
see themselves with realizations of that life is all about self or the concept of I, also known as an
addiction to oneself. Addictions come in many forms... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

affected with the behaviorism of narcissists . There is no doubt that it would be considered an
unhealthy condition for narcissists reasons being because they have no empathy toward others ,
completely self centered, less successful in business, more violent and aggressive, when others

Discrimination Against Tattoos
Sleeves or Sleeves?
Tattoos first originated in the west by a captain and his sailors. This group of Navy men returned
home with their new pieces of art and were looked at as oddities by the people of their hometowns
(Burgess 746). Much time has passed and a lot of things have changed since this event in the 1700s.
However, looking at people with tattoos differently than people without tattoos has not changed.
The main issue is people with tattoos are being discriminated against in the workplace. The number
of people with tattoos has increased dramatically within the past decade. Tattoos have now reached
a new audience including men and women of many different occupations. Although there are
people with tattoos currently in many occupations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People who have felt discriminated against in the workplace have occasionally hired lawyers to
protect them and their rights and went to court. Court cases have shown that people with tattoos
have attempted to use the 1st Amendment and Title VII to protect them. Employees with tattoos
have stated that their tattoos are a form of expression and/or speech therefore, they should be
protected by the 1st Amendment. Some court cases have been successful and the court values
some tattoos as being protected by the First Amendment. However, some court cases have ended
in a loss for the tattooed employee. In the court case Roberts V. Ward a group of three workers
have failed to comply with the dresscode that their jobs entitle them. However, they felt as if their
tattoos should not have to be covered by their rights of the First Amendment because they are a
form of expression. One specific person that the court narrowed in on was Leslie who had a tattoo
of USN as a remembrance of his time in the United States Navy. The court stated that Leslie s
tattoo had been closer to freedom of speech than the other two also fighting their company s
dress code. However, the court decided that Leslie s support for the military is unrelated to his
job and he failed to comply with his dress code. Therefore, the court did not agree in favor of
Leslie and his co workers. An example where the 1st Amendment did protect an employee is in the
court case Baldetta v. Harborview Medical Center. This case includes a nurse named James
Baldetta that has a tattoo that says HIV POSITIVE that he refused to cover during work. Their
claim at court was that Baldetta s tattoo was included under public speech of the public s concern
which the court then agreed to this broad statement and passed Baldetta s case. When it comes to
protection of the First Amendment for people with tattoos

Jim Hawkins And Treasure Island
Jim Hawkins is the son of an innkeeper in Bristol, England. An old captain named Billy Bones
drank too much rum and had two strokes. Then, Jim and his mother unlock a sea chest, and
found a journal and a map inside. He knew these documents would be valuable, and goes to Dr.
Livesey and Squire Trelawney for advice. Dr. Livesey suggests that the map is for an island where
a pirate named Captain Flint buried treasure. Trelawney then plans the expedition by buying a ship,
and hiring the crew members, Long John Silver and Captain Smollett, who says most of the crew
is untrustworthy. When the ship is sailing, all is well until Jim hears Silver s plans for a mutiny.
Jim tells the captain and other crew members about this. When they land at the island,

Skinny dipping with friends was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life. When I first
thought about skinny dipping the idea kind of scared me because how often are you completely
nude around people who you are not romantically intimate with? And movies it always looks like
so much fun when a group of friends tear off their clothing and jump into a Beautiful secluded lake
or Hot Spring. The fun hey skinny dipping as help within the spontaneity of the whole thing.
Randomly deciding to swim nude as a friend experience and the one that still cannot be captured on
social media.
I was concerned initially that being new around my friends would create some kind of sexual
tension between all of us but that was not something that resulted from this liberating experience. I
think we all too often associate nudity with sex because we live in such a repressed society where
a mother cannot even breastfeed her child in a public setting without receiving some kind of
backlash. This experience taught me to not fear being unclothed around people I am comfortable
with. Being nude with friends felt natural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

we did know of a public pool nearby that would it be easy for us to get into and out of quickly

first time skinny dipping. There re only four of us so, that mean the whole the Thing a lot easier
since I knew that their wouldn t to be too many witnessing this experiment. We all quickly
disrobed and jump in. From that point on it was no different than any other swimming experience
I ve had, lots of fun and horseplay ensued. We only stayed for about an hour once we began

A Brief Look at the Mayan Civilization Essay example
After the disappearance of the Olmec in 100 BCE many Mesoamerican complex societies arose
and continued to carry on many of the things of the Olmec culture. The ceremonial centers that
were now being established brought about large populations of residents to the area. Trade
networks linked the new areas and extended across Mesoamerica. They developed similar to those
in the eastern hemisphere.
The earliest heirs to the Olmec were the Maya people. The Maya can be analyzed in terms of their
culture. This civilization came about in Mesoamerica around 250 AD with a great influence
coming from that of the Olmec. The first 650 years of the Maya civilization s existence was known
as the Classic Period. They created a remarkable society of more ... Show more content on

After the depopulation of the lowland cities the highland cities continued to flourish. Maya
writing was an expansion on the Olmec tradition of writing in inscriptions. They created the most
beautiful and complex system of writing than all of the other early American systems. It is a
system of hieroglyphs and syllabic symbols. Scholars began to try and understand the script in the
1960 s. Much of Maya writing is still around today. The inscriptions are seen on temples and
monuments. The most common place for Maya writing were the books that they created out of
bark paper and lime to make it white. They bound each book with deer hide. Only four books
containing Maya writing that deal with astronomical and calendric matters. Popol Vuh, the Maya
Bible is one of the surviving books. Like other Mesoamerican people, the Maya used a number
system where the first nineteen numbers were similar to that of our English numbers. They contain
unique symbols for numerals one through ten and eleven through nineteen is a combination of the
symbols for one through nine combined with ten. Another great mathematical achievement of the
Maya was that of the creation of the concept of zero and also positional notation. By combining
their mathematical and astronomical skills they calculated a solar year, which is 365.242 days.
They were also able to predict solar eclipses because they understood the movements of heavenly
bodies. The Maya people

As discussed numerous times throughout our class,...
As discussed numerous times throughout our class, classifying events in one lifetime as normal or
abnormal is nearly impossible. Every person has a different story and a unique life filled with
entirely different memories, events and emotions. The idea of what is normal changes with several
contexts, including time, culture, gender etc. Every generation experiences the same basic timeline,
including a few major milestones (education, moving out, marriage, having children etc.), but when
a person experiences those events depends on changes in the economic status or availability of
resources available. These changes can cause a population to be pushed to go through different
stages of life earlier or later than their ancestors.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have less pressure to conceive during a certain time because their bodies give them the
ability to procreate in later years. In all, because of one s historical time period, cultural
subgroup, gender, and other contexts, one s conception of normality differs. I interviewed Neda
Alvieri, my seventy two year old Nana (grandmother) from Croatia. Nana was born on February
18th, 1942 in Poljana, Croatia, where she still lives today. She was raised with her 2 brothers
and 2 sisters by her mother and father in their village. It was her responsibility on the village to
help tend to the animals, crops, and when she was in her teens, help her mother do basic
housework. Religion was and still is an important part of my Nana s life, being a devoted Christian.
Every week, the family would walk with the rest of the village to the local church and pray. She
enjoyed singing and knitting growing up, and I am actually lucky enough to have a few things
that she knitted for me. She never went to school when she was a kid. By the time she was
sixteen, she was married to my Dido, (grandfather). It was an arranged marriage by her parents
and his. By 1960, when she was 18, she had her first child, my Teta (aunt) Lucjiana. At this time,
she had moved away from her family to live with her husband. Dido Bruno never had a proper
education either. He was a carpenter. Some of the houses he built are still standing today. When my

Gil Scott Heron s The Godfather Of Rap
In a time of both social and political tension in the United States, Gil Scott Heron left a massive
impression as a musician and poet. Later earning the nickname, The Godfather of Rap, Heron

political issues in the United Statesduring the 1970 s and 1980 s. Heron studied at Lincoln
University, following in the footsteps of other prominent African Americanindividuals such as
Langston Hughes and Melvin Tolson. Hughes, along with fellow poet, LeRoi Jones, were two
African American academics whose overwhelming influence on Heron would resonate in all of his

Defining Professionalism
Academics believe that professional occupations are those that are full time occupations, have a
commitment to a calling, have formalized organization, are based on specialized education of
exceptional duration and difficulty, exhibit a service orientation, and are autonomous. Students
feel that a professional is anyone who acts in a professional way and has creditable knowledge of
their field. The two are vying for increased recognition in the elite group known as professionals.
The academic community wishes to restrict the values of professionalism s definition. Society
wishes to let itself into the professional community by broadening those values. Each side seeks its

Can a corporate CEO not be a professional? Can the honor also be denied to a computer
programmer making $100,000 salary?
The surveyed students of Clarkson University disagree with Moore. Their ideas of
professionalism were much more lenient, and included CEOs, programmers, and nearly all other
skilled jobs. A professional, by their definition, has to go through intense training and must receive
a degree [that] requires hard work and study and devotes [their] whole life. The students
commonly listed doctors, lawyers, scientists, and reporters, which may fit Moore s ideals, but they
also listed business people, engineers, bankers, and trades such as mechanics and construction
workers. These occupations may not fit Moore s criteria. To the students, a professional is anyone
who acts in a professional way and has creditable knowledge of their field.
The reason for the disagreement is a conflict in interests between the two communities. The
academic community is firmly seated in the professional world. They do not have to contend with
being a member of professionalism s gray area. It is in the best interest of the academics to limit
the definition of professionalism, thus making it more of an elite group. However, the students
have adopted the beliefs of their parents, who wish to broaden professionalism, to include
themselves in the elite group. This is not to say that the students wish to include all occupations as

Innate Immunity Research Paper
Innate immunity refers to nonspecific defense mechanisms that come into play immediately or
within hours of an antigen s appearance in the body. These mechanisms include physical barriers
such as skin, chemicals in the blood, and immune system cells that attack foreign cells in the body.
The innate immune response is activated by chemical properties of the antigen.
Adaptive immunity refers to antigen specific immune response. The adaptive immune response is
more complex than the innate. The antigen first must be processed and recognized. Once an antigen
has been recognized, the adaptive immune system creates an army of immune cells specifically
designed to attack that antigen. Adaptive immunity also includes a memory that makes future

The stress response arouses the sympathetic nervous system, and it releases norepinephrine.
Catecholamines are released into the blood stream by the medulla of the adrenal gland (Huether
McCance, 2017). At the same time, the pituitary gland is stimulated by corticotropin releasing
hormone to release many different hormones such as antidiuretic hormone (ADH), growth
hormone, and adrenocorticotrophic (ACTH). Glucocorticoid, with the main one being cortisol are
released by the cortex of the adrenal gland after it is stimulated by ACTH. Catecholamines can
cause increased blood flow to the brain, increased heart rate, lower immunity by decreasing natural
killer cells, and increase glucose metabolism. When glucocorticoids, primarily cortisol, they easily
penetrate all tissues. Glucocorticoids affect the central nervous system in terms of arousal,
cognition, mood, sleep, metabolism, immune and inflammatory reaction, and growth and
reproduction (Huether McCance, 2017). In the case of Martha, stress is causing catecholamines to
be released. This increases her heart rate and cortisol affects her sleep and

Modernist Poets E.E. Cummings, Wallace Stevens, and T.S. Eliot Change the Face of American
Poetry
Modernist poets such as E.E. Cummings, Wallace Stevens, and T.S. Eliot changed the face of
American poetry by destroying the notion that American culture is far inferior to European culture.
These and other American poets accomplished the feat of defining an American poetic style in the
Modern Era by means of a truly American idea. That idea is the melting pot. Just as American
culture exists as a mixture of races, beliefs, and ideas, the new American style of poetry exists as a
mixture of old English styles with a new concept of the international style. Modern poets
experiment with language, theme, and convention to cleanse language ... Show more content on

Pound was showing influence from the fourteenth century Italian poets such as Guido Cavalcanti.
In their works that follow their time in Europe, both Eliot and Pound display a hybridization of
English and French and Italian ideas. Cummings began to imitate French Modernist poets
Guillaume Apollinaire and Stephane MallarmГ©. He also adopted an aesthetic based on the
manifestos of French Surrealists and Dadaists, who detached literature from referential meaning
and linked it to experimental play (McQuade 1235). Such experimental play is seen in Cummings
poem [she being brand] in which the creatively formed words and syntax give the image of a
young man s thoughts, feelings, and actions upon driving his new car: again slo wly; bare,ly nudg.
ing (Cummings 15). The use of punctuation gives a vivid image of his thoughts as he carefully puts
the stiff transmission into gear. Into another Cummings poem, [in Just ], we see more experimental
play with the words to create the impression of the way excited children talk: and eddieandbill
come running from marbles and piracies and its spring (Cummings 6).
Wallace Stevens was influenced by French poetry and art. Stevens often intertwined French and
English in sentences, as in the line from The Plain Sense of Things : We had come to an end of the
imagination / Inanimate in an inert savoir (Stevens 4 5). Stevens style seemed to imitate the French

Comparing The Protest Song Glory By Common And John Legend
Protest Music is music everyone can relate to while they are protesting. When listening to
protest music everyone feels and embodies the same emotion. They are motivated to keep going
because they are all fighting for an injustice and the music is what helps them keep going. For
example, the song titled Glory by Common and John Legend is a great protest song, and it is
usually heard at Black Lives Matter protests today. Glory is a song about how there is still
inequality in America today, however, imagining that one day everyone will be considered equal,
and there will be no differences between races and genders. The song gives people hope, that one
day things will get better.
There is still racism and inequality in this country and African Americans are disproportionately
impacted by a lot of factors which include, discrimination by police officers, housing, job
opportunities, mass incarceration, and much more. Glory is such a great song to listen to at a
protest because there is so much history in the song, and people are ... Show more content on

The message is that African Americans are fighting so they can be seen and treated as equal.
They message is also to stand up against authority and take a stand and rise against oppression.
People at protests can relate to the lyrics and feel the pain that African Americans have gone
through, and they are angry. African Americans are taking a stand and saying enough is enough.
So, this is why Glory is a great song to play at a protest because people are inspired and feel like it
is their duty to walk the streets and call for a mandatory change. Glory is a powerful song, and
for the people listening, they know that there is still a lot of work to be done and that someday it

  • 2. The Function Of The Song Beijing Welcomes You By Ke Zhaolei Music can be found everywhere in our world and has many different functions. Since music is universal it is important to understand the way describe music using terms such as timbre, pitch, rhythm and dynamics as well as keeping in mind the social, cultural and political roles that music falls into. The song BeijingWelcomes You is a chinese song composed by Ke Zhaolei for the 2008 Beijing olympics and features many different artists from Asia. This recorded piece of musicis a representation of modern day chinese music as well as the incorporation of the Beijing culture. In the song Beijing Welcomes You , there is a clear distinction that the song is sung by both female and male artists based on the vocal timbre of the song. The vocal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pattern of the song has a beat that repeats itself at a fixed rate. In addition to the fixed rate, the song has an accent where one beat is emphasized and this can be heard by the increased volume of that specific note. Towards the end of the song, the melodic contour of the song can be described as a descending melodic contour as the pitches descend from high to low. This is done by the artist holding out their voices for a lengthened amount of time. Furthermore, the phonic structure of this piece can be described as a monophonic piece. Monophony means that the performers play the same pitches with the same rhythms. Even though the song incompasses a wide varitey of instruments, the rhythm of the song stays relatively the same Another important aspect of the song is the dynamics. The beginning of the song can be classified as a crescendo because of the increased musical sound from the instruments, however, towards the end there is a decrescendo as the volume falls off and the artists holds on and extends the last note. The crescendo in the beginning of the song is interesting to note because the song starts off acapella and gradually the volume begins to increase when the first musical instrument comes into play. Last but not least, this piece of music contains a lot of repetition. The vocal repetition of the songs title serves as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Role Of Animals In Egyptian Mythology According to the ancient myth, Seth ruled over the Upper Egypt, while Horus ruled over the Lower Egypt. There are also other gods in Egyptian mythology that possess the animalistic appearance. Some of the most well known examples are: Anubis, the god of embalming and the dead, Thoth, the god of writing and knowledge, Sobek, the godof the Nile, Bastet, the protective goddess and many other gods. All of these gods have their animal forms and manifestation, their significance was closely connected to animals they stood for. Actually, the animal they represented was determining the characteristics of a certain deity, for example, the birds such as hawk or ibis were often considered the symbol of wisdom and protection. Horus, for instance, was often listed as the protective god of the Egyptians, the one who protects the pharaoh, and he possesses the head of the hawk.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Asian American Experience Through Art The Asian American Experience Explained Through Art Introduction The United States is the land of the free, and the home of the brave according to the song, but there is a dichotomy that exists between those who have called the United States their home for a long period of time, and those who are immigrating to the US. Asian Americans are a group that very few think of as having difficulties because the stereotype is of a group that is intelligent and is actually doing better than the average American. While this may seem to be true, better grades in a school setting does not mean that people who come from other countries are not experiencing racism (both overt and subtle), stereotyping and alienation in this country. Although there has been some difficulty, many groups are experiencing newfound hope because of the actions that they are taking. The plight, and the hope of the Asian cultures are being documented by artists of different stripes who are eager to depict what has happened to Asians as they try to build their own America, and assimilate into the one that was built before they came. In this paper, the Asian American cultures will be examined through the art that has been produced over the many years that Asian people have striven to make their way as new Americans. Searching for an Identity Leaving one s own country and moving to another is one of the most difficult journeys anyone can make. In one s home country, he or she has a place, an identity that is ... Attia and K.M.Abd El Kader *, Physics Department, Faculty of Science, Suez Canal University, Ismailia, Egypt ABSTRACT In the present work, PVA Ag nanocomposite films with thickness 0.18 mm, constant silvercontent (0.4 wt. %) and with different time of reaction (0.1, 3, 5, 7, 9 h) were prepared by chemical reduction method. Structure, surface topology, photoluminescence and electrical properties of PVA Ag nanocomposite were studied using x ray diffraction (XRD), electrometer, atomic force microscope (AFM) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy were used to characterize the prepared nanocomposites. X ray patterns showed the existence of Ag nanoparticles within the PVA polymeric matrix with face centered cube (FCC) phase. It was found that the PL intensity for all samples increases, while the root mean square (rms) roughness decreases as the time of reaction is increased. Current voltage characteristics were analyzed to explore carrier transport mechanisms in Ag PVA nanocomposite and the results showed that there is an improvement in the electrical conductivity of the PVA Ag films and Frank poole emission is the prevailing transport mechanism for all samples. • 6. My New Year s Resolution This year was the same as last when it came time to make my New Year s Resolution. I set out to exercise more and lost twenty pounds. Also like last, I haven t stuck to my plan and have given up already. I have tried to accomplish this over the last two years because I have tons of clothes that I can no longer fit into and it s a small amount that I feel I should be able to lose, but I seem to always fall short. The first few weeks in January I staied solid. I was going to the gym, eating right, but then daily life happened and I had a hard time adjusting and fitting it into my daily routine. Plus there is after holiday gift cards for restaurants, starbucks and I am a coupon collector; Finding good deals on food always makes it hard to pass up on things that I love to eat when they are at such a bargain. Sometimes dieting seems a little more expensive than the alternative. While I know it is more healthy money becomes a factory at times. I had a bad week and then I tried to bounce back and get back on my fitness routine, and then I got hit with the flu. How am I supposed to workout while I cant breath? I am not saying it is an excuse but it is a set back. So after a month of disappointment I basically stopped trying so hard. I still do plan to keep trying to finally accomplish this resolutionbut I believe it will be a slow process that I have to get my head in and separate myself from others. Hopefully next year I can make a new resolution and not repeat this same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scott Fitzgerald. The meaning behind certain items or events can prove to have a prolonged effect on certain character relationships. A specific character relationship that is affected by these symbolic meanings is the amorous affair between the characters Jay Gatsbyand Daisy Buchanan. Certain symbolic events such as colors, weather, and the idea of always being watched directly affect this romance and determines the relationship status throughout the novel. Gatsby s stretched arms are reaching towards a green light that is on Daisy s dock across the bay at East Egg. This green light holds significant value to him when he is not with Daisy and views the green light as Daisy instead and the bay as the challenges that he must face to obtain her. Once Gatsby obtains Daisy his mind is still fixated on the green light even when she is right next to him, If it wasn t for the mist we could see your home across the bay, said Gatsby. You always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock (Fitzgerald 92). Gatsby, while stating this, makes a realization that the green light now holds little meeting once he cannot see it for the fact he had the green light next to him, Daisy, Possibly it had occurred to him that the colossal significance of that light had now vanished forever (Fitzgerald 93). Another vital color that plays a key role within the romance is the color yellow. The color yellow symbolizes envy. It is most present with Gatsby s car, which is yellow, when Gatsby goes to the Buchanan residence to officially claim Daisy as his. The book was acknowledged as a New York Times Bestseller and was created into a movie in 2008, that sold 247.8 million box office tickets. Marley and Me was a heart touching, biographical story about a couple who decided to buy a yellow labrador retriever puppy, with John Grogan as the narrator. He describes his life with his wife, puppy and children up until the death of Marley and the lessons that Marley taught along the way. The style of this novel was predominantly explicit, portraying the thoughts and feelings in great detail throughout each chapter. Throughout the novel, Marley showed the Grogan s how terrible of a dog he was, whether it was tearing up the house, knocking people over with his overwhelmed excitement or eating the gold chain the narrator had bought for his wife, Jenny. Despite Marley s bad behavior and the fact he got kicked out of obedience school, his unconditional love he had for his family and the protection he attained regarding the Grogan s three children was irreplaceable. John Grogan described this by stating, Like any relationship, this one has it s cost. They were costs we came to accept and balance against the joy and amusement and protection and companionship he gave us, (Page 265). The author used the word cost to allude to the numerous pillows Marley shredded, scream doors he busted through and cages he ripped apart, along with the many other disasters he caused. The costs balance with the good things Marley had to provide, meaning although he was a dog with many problems, he had good qualities also that made up for his lack of obedience. The protection, companionship and joy overpowered any anger they could have had regarding Marley s actions. This quote was significant because the reader was ultimately given the meaning and purpose of the entire book, to decipher for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. How Tobacco Use Teaching Methods Tobacco Use Teaching Methods Introduction Choosing the correct teaching method is important to help the learner retain and learn information in an effective and efficient way. Tobacco use is a health related topic that needs further education and intervention from a nurse. Group discussion and demonstration, and return demonstration are two teaching methods of interest to me, which I believe will be beneficial to use when educating a small group of five people about this health related topic are. Group discussion involves the deliverance of medical information or education to a small group of individuals which may include their family so information, opinions can be exchanged with the nurse. This is simple way to deliver information to more than one person at one time if time management is a concern, and the nurse is able to build trust and rapport with the group as a whole. Demonstration and return demonstration works more effectively in a small group and involves education or teaching with the nurse and learner(s). This method also allows time for feedback from both parties. The nurse gives the learner a demonstration of a task to perform and the learner has to attempt to carry out the task back showing competence, and the nurse is on standby to give cues as needed. Group discussions Group discussions are beneficial as this teaching method is useful as it allows the learners to share information about their personal experiences and is both economically and time ... It has sparked numerous debates in many countries around the world. In most countries, abortion is legalized, yet however, there are some countries which don t allow women to have abortions. Additionally, if done, the women will be punished by the law severely. In my belief, I don t think abortionshould be banned, even though it s not healthy for women and their development (reproductive wise). The consequences and results coming from not allowing abortion would lead to many women not being able to take care of her child, and more importantly, not giving her children a normal and healthy life. In this situation, if the government does not allow abortion, then the children of these women children might end up becoming socially inept, leading to depression or certain mental illnesses due to the lack of love and care from their parents.... Comedy Theories According to the Oxford dictionary Humor, is defined as: The quality of being amustic or comic, especially as expressed in literature or speech, but what truly makes something funny? Comedy has been around for hundreds of years; as it is being examined four concrete theories have been developed to understand the idea of comedy: Superiority, Relief, incongruity, and Benign Violation theory. The conception of comedy has been around since the dawn of man; Aristophanes wrote comic plays dating back to 425 BCE, but as time progress so does comedy. The jokes and comics we see today have changed drastically since then, and have evolved into a new style of humor. Comedy is used by writers, playwrights, and everyday people to make life more enjoyable and cause the greatest feeling to man... Laughter. The first theory otherwise known as Superiority theory, is the idea that people laugh at the misfortune of others. When people make a group of peers laugh it adds a sense of, sudden glory, to a person and allows people to feel dominant. The bases of superiority theory is people thrive for dominance and can use laughter to win dominance by getting everyone to admire or follow a person; by seeing someone else have a joke played on a person makes people feel better or superior. • 13. The San Fernando Mission Cemetery Death is a subject we tend to shy away from, but why? It s a natural occurrence that happens all the time, and it s something we cannot avoid. At least once in our lives we will attend a funeral, but how many times will we visit the diseased once they are gone? A cemetery is a burial ground where those who have passed away lay to rest for the rest of eternity, and it gives their loved ones a place to go and visit them. The San Fernando Mission Cemetery is a Catholic cemetery located in Mission Hills, ironically, right across the street from a hospital. It is owned and operated by the Los Angeles Archdiocese and was established in the year 1800. The cemetery provides several services including burials, entombments, and cremations. For ground burials, they offer options such as traditional burials and lawn crypts which can be single or double, and then there are family monuments and family estates that can fit two to sixteen people. For mausoleum services, which hold the casket aboveground, they offer single and double crypts (Catholic Cemeteries LA). There are a number of sections in the cemetery that have different themes with a corresponding centerpiece. People are able to choose a theme based on religion or characteristics they deem fitting. This cemetery specifically is a Catholic cemetery, which makes it different from others. Evidence has shown that Stalin was not a savior to Russia by creating economic policies to help with the agriculture and also modernized Russia. Stalin s plan was to make Russia an industrial giant, so Stalin created the five year plan to work on the farms and factories of Russia. Stalin s five year plans were a series of nation wide centralized economic plans in the Soviet Union (Wikipedia). What that meant was that peasants who didn t have jobs were required to work on a specific goal that Stalin had to increase what was considered as an economy booster. The first Five Year Plan introduced in 1928, concentrated on the development of iron and steel, machine tools, electric power and transport. Joseph Stalinset the workers high... What this meant is that some of the goals were not made and the products made were useless to sell or trade with. The Third Five Year Plan lasted for only three years, as it was interrupted by Germany s declaration of war on the Soviet Union during World War II. As war seemed imminent, this plan focused on the production of weapons and other wartime materials (Trueman). The Soviet Union mainly contributed resources to the development of weapons, and constructed additional military factories as needed. Stalin continued to use additional Five Year Plans in the years following WWII, in an attempt keep his promise in 1945 to make the Soviet Union the leading industrial power by 1960. By 1952, industrial production was nearly double the 1941 level. Stalin s Five Year Plans helped transform the Soviet Union from an untrained society of peasants to an advanced industrial economy. Greeks developed sophisticated hypothesis about how to impress listeners through the spoken word and Aristotle was concerned with theorizing the art of speaking. The important point is not so much violent representations can be the cause of world violence, as what people feel while they are watching some kind of violent depictions. We can also note that the media depictions of violence which the effects model typically condemns are limited to fictional productions. As Gauntlett (1998:125) says there is no obvious reason why the antisocial activities which are always in the news, and which frequently do not have such apparent consequences for their agents, should not have similar effects . In this experiment, the Independent Variable will be the amount of salt I have added to the constant( our water), and the Dependent Variable will be the boiling temperaturethat it reaches. Introduction: According to the Department of Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, adding salt to water increases the overall boiling point, thus reducing cooking time. It s important to know that it does not actually speed up the boiling point, but increases the maximum temperature. To prove this concept, we will be investigating How [does] the increase in salt (IDV) affect the boiling temperature of water (DV)? . Some researchers consider compulsive buying to be a dichotomous behavior (Faber and O Guinn, 1992); meaning consumers are classified either as compulsive or non compulsive. However, research by Edwards (1993) indicates that compulsive buying, like many other consumer behaviors, occurs on a continuum. She found that compulsive buying ranges from non compulsive, to recreational, borderline compulsive, compulsive, and addicted buying. In other words, consumers can experience no compulsive consumption tendencies, some compulsive consumption tendencies, or chronic levels of this behavior. The act of buying may temporarily elevate the mood and self esteem of a compulsive buyer; however it is often followed by feelings of shame or depression. First, all 21 practitioners identified goals and activities for their programs. Common goals included providing a safe environment and developing academic and social emotional skills. Different from a strict science to practice approach to decision making, most practitioners chose components using input from multiple other sources including stakeholders (i.e., youth and parents), personal beliefs, and program requirements (Honig Coburn, 2008). Fun or enjoyment for youth was the most common rationale. Whether a program is enjoyable has not typically been included in measures of OST program quality, but perhaps it should be one. Enjoyment is a property of engaging programs (Bohnert, Fredricks, Randall, 2010) and engagement, in turn, is critical for attracting and retaining youth. Staff who create engaging environments tend to be youth centered in their approach to programming and are effective listeners and observers of the youth they serve (Larson, Walker, Pearce, 2005; Larson, Walker, Rusk, Diaz 2015). Building skills was also a common rationale. Different from the origins of OST programs in the U.S. as settings designed to provide supervision during the gap between the end of the school day for youth and work day for parents (Mahoney, Parente, Zigler, 2009), programs in this study were described as educational and development contexts aiming to augment competencies and/or reduce risks. The author Rachel Fearnley, gives a powerful presentation on a child s bereavement process. Many believe that children are unable to comprehend till the later adolescences but that death of a parent causes many developmental issues if gone unresolved. All children handle death or loss in different ways but according her extensive studies, all age groups displayed the same developmental issues. The studies conducted were not only with children but in how caregivers also approached the bereavement children. The evidence from the current research would suggest that there is a stigma attached to talking about death and dying and that practitioners find it difficult and embarrassing to discuss such topics. This sequestration leads to a pattern of communicating that avoids any involvement of such unmentionable vocabulary. Additionally, within social work practice, it has been highlighted that practitioners are frequently required to talk with children about complicated and painful issues and during uncertain times in their lives (Lefevre et al., 2008, p. 171). • 29. The Long Term Effectiveness Of Prolonged Exposure Therapy Literature Review Existing controlled examinations of intervention efficacy specific to only sexual assault and rape are presently minimal in comparison to intervention examinations of combination or other types of trauma (Regehr, Alaggia, Dennis, Pitts, Saini, 2013). Psychotherapeutic interventions that fail to differentiate sexual assault and rape victims from other types of trauma victims may decrease the treatment effectiveness or inadvertently harm participants in this subgroup. Trauma associated from rape or sexual assault differs from other forms of trauma and treatment efficacy should be examined in this manner. Trauma from rape or sexual assault entail symptoms of PTSD, depression, suicidal ideations and sexual dysfunction. Individuals may also indicate feelings of vulnerability, loss of control, fear, shame, self blame, societal blame and stigma (Russell Davis, 2007; Regehr et al., 2013; Ullman Peter Hagene, 2014). Prolonged exposure (PE) is a specific exposure therapy program that derives from Emotional Processing Theory (EPT). Except is a lot more complicated than it seems. The electoral college is the collection of 538 delegates that have the power to determine who the next president will be; the number of total representatives in the House and Senate. These 538 votes aren t given to the citizen directly, but they are instead divided among the 50 states in America. Currently, people are suggesting who their state should pick for president. Simply put, if a state has a majority of votes for one candidate, (however small the majority is) that candidate gets all the electoral votes from said state; winner takes all. So, a candidate must win over half of the voting population in enough states to get the majority of electoral votes to win the election. But that s not all, these said electors aren t nailed down to vote for who their state constituents want at all; millions of votes can be thrown in the trash and forgotten forever. Many believe the Electoral College s votes protect the states that have small populations from the large populations states and in turn candidates will have to give more attention to small states. Over nine million soldiers and a large amount of innocent civilians lost their lives. Empires crumbled, revolution engulfed Russia and America rose to become a dominant world power. Huge armies deployed new weapons of devastating effect from rifles and pistols to torpedoes and flame throwers. These weapons were used not only in the trenches but by tanks too. This was an advantage to those who were able to access such machinery as they could easily launch bullets and missiles at nearby enemy bases. The downfall of the tank was the fact it was unable to cross the trenches. Tanks were not the only pieces of equipment that could access this machinery but U boats and planes too. The British carried bolt actionrifles in which fired 15 rounds per minute at a minimum range of 1,400 metres away. This allowed the British to take out foes at a far greater range. By using machinery in which rules out the need for getting up close to the enemy was a great advantage during world war one. Soldiers ran from trench to trench attacking with all that they had. This resulted in a massacre as the soldiers running toward the trenches were shot down. Machinery such as machine guns and heavy artillery were the weapons used in the trenches. Head Hair In Ancient Egypt In Ancient Egypt, head hair was commonly associated with one s age and wealth where a shaven head with a small curl at the side of the head would indicate a youth, while wigs were worn by older people to conceal their greying or lack of hair. As for China, hairstyles were not an easily changeable outlet for personal expression, but rather a symbol of everything from status to ethnicity to political ideals until the recent years after 1970s. In the ancient times, Confucius s philosophy of Filial Piety was deeply rooted in the mindsets of the people, and stated that one s body, hair and skin was granted by parents. Thus, it was considered extremely disrespectful to cut head hair. And in the Tang Dynasty, hairdos with different shapes evolved into a symbol of class status. Hairstyles were also used as an indicator of a woman s marriage status; an unmarried woman wore her hair down or tied in a single braid, while a married woman usually had her hair up in coils or a knot. In Africa, hairstyles were seen as a representation of one s tribe. Different styles hold different meanings to each tribe. The artists under that movement were not very popular since the style was very different. The product of Impressionism, Post Impressionism has a more distorted, expressive style because their rules in terms of content were more free. I will compare and contrast the paintings of this era, Houses at Auvers by Vincent van Gogh, Goldfish by Henri Matisse, and Mont Sainte Victoire by Paul CГ©zanne. The work of art Houses at Auvers by Vincent van Gogh was made after he left the asylum at Saint RГ©my de Provence. He admitted himself there because he was very sad and before he arrived he cut off his ear and gave it to a prostitute as a gift. He only resided there for a short amount of time (the end of 1888 1890) because he became bored. As a result, he moved to Auvers sur Oise, northwest of Paris. There, he painted Houses at Auvers in June of 1890 which was one of several works of art made before his suicide in the same year. Houses at Auvers depicts a landscape of early summer in Auvers sur Oise. It s medium, like most paintings in this era, is oil on canvas. Court cases have shown that people with tattoos have attempted to use the 1st Amendment and Title VII to protect them. Some court cases have been successful and the court values some tattoos as being protected by the First Amendment. However, some court cases have ended in a loss for the tattooed employee. In the court case Roberts V. Ward a group of three workers have failed to comply with the dresscode that their jobs entitle them. However, they felt as if their tattoos should not have to be covered by their rights of the First Amendment because they are a form of expression. One specific person that the court narrowed in on was Leslie who had a tattoo of USN as a remembrance of his time in the United States Navy. The court stated that Leslie s tattoo had been closer to freedom of speech than the other two also fighting their company s dress code. However, the court decided that Leslie s support for the military is unrelated to his job and he failed to comply with his dress code. Therefore, the court did not agree in favor of Leslie and his co workers. An example where the 1st Amendment did protect an employee is in the court case Baldetta v. Harborview Medical Center. This case includes a nurse named James Baldetta that has a tattoo that says HIV POSITIVE that he refused to cover during work. Their claim at court was that Baldetta s tattoo was included under public speech of the public s concern which the court then agreed to this broad statement and passed Baldetta s case.
