The Eggs of the World Boiled Down
The Eggs of the World boiled down In The Eggs of the World, Toshio Mori writes about 3 men
meeting, one rich, one a poor drunkard, and the narrator. The point of view Toshio Mori uses in this
story is peripheral first person. This use of a somewhat uncommon way of writing and viewing a story
gives a look at events that is objective while not being unfeeling. Peripheral first person gives balance
between personal stake in the matter, but not so much as to lose objective view. This viewpoint also
gives new looks on the characters surrounding the author, giving both personal opinion and removed
observation. Lastly, peripheral 1st person gives a twist on which facts may or may not be included in a
narrative. In The Eggs of the World the use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hasegawa burst out laughing the minute Sessue Matoi stepped out of the house. He didn t (Mori 364).
This is different from if the story was being told by Mr. Hasegawa himself or if it had been written by
a 3rd person narrator, one would have no shock in the lack of a laugh and the other would not be
expecting a laugh. In this way the characterizations change because of personal experience, and so are
affected by 1st person peripheral narration in this story. Personal experience also influences the
inclusion or omission of facts in The Eggs of the World. When the author speaks of previous
encounters with Sessue Matoi, he shows Matoi as a drunkard but points to the fact that he is not just
drunk, but also quite smart. There was seldom a time when one did not see him staggering full of
drink. The trouble was that people did not know when he was sober or drunk. He was very clever
when he was drunk and also very clever when sober (Mori 361). This is personal experience affecting
the omission or inclusion of facts because a if Mr. Hasegawa was telling the story he might not focus
on this point of confusion and if a third person narrator was telling the story, the fact that one could
almost never tell whether Matoi is drunk or not would not have as much meaning. The things that the
author notices are things that other

The Rise of Communism in Russia
The Rise of Communism in Russia
Unless we accept the claim that LeninÕs coup dÕŽtat gave birth to an entirely new state, and indeed
to a new era in the history of mankind, we must recognize in todayÕs Soviet Union the old empire of
the Russians the only empire that survived into the mid 1980 s (Luttwak, 1). In their Communist
Manifesto of 1848, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels applied the term communism to a final stage of
socialism in which all class differences would disappear and humankind would live in harmony. Marx
and
Engels claimed to have discovered a scientific approach to socialism based on the laws of history.
They declared that the course of history was determined by the clash of opposing forces rooted in ...

The crowds demanded food and the step down of Tsar. When the troops were called in to disperse the
crowds, they refused to fire their weapons and joined in the rioting. The army generals reported that it
would be pointless to send in any more troops, because they would only join in with the other rioters.
The frustrated tsar responded by stepping down from power, ending the 300 year old Romanov
dynasty (Farah, 580). With the tsar out of power, a new provisional government took over made up of
middle class Duma representatives. Also rising to power was a rival government called the Petrograd
Soviet of Workers and Soldiers Deputies consisting of workers and peasants of socialist and
revolutionary groups.
Other soviets formed in towns and villages all across the country. All of the soviets worked to push a
three point program which called for an immediate peas, the transfer of land to peasants, and control
of factories to workers. But the provisional government stood in conflict with the other smaller
governments and the hardships of war hit the country. The provisional government was so busy
fighting the war that they neglected the social problems it faced, losing much needed support (Farah,
580). The Bolsheviks in Russia were confused and divided about how to regard the Provisional
Government, but most of them, including Stalin, were inclined to accept it for the time being on
condition that it work for an

How Is Antigone A Tragic Hero
The play Antigone by Sophocles shows the main character, Antigone, as a tragic hero. In the play,
Antigone wants to honor her brother, Polyneices, who died on the battlefield, by burying him properly.
Yet, Creon forbids anyone to bury Polyneices or the punishment is death. In this situation, Antigone
shows that she is elevated, basically good, has a downfall from fate, and struggles heroically, making
her a tragic hero. Antigone as a tragic hero demonstrates that even in ancient times heroes were
admired and commonly talked about in stories, even to this day. In the play, Antigone has an elevated
place in society. Antigone and her sister Ismene are daughters of Oedipus, and nieces of Creon, the
king of Thebes. Oedipus saved the city and this allowed for his daughters to have higher social
rankings. When Oedipus saved our city and then again When he died and you remained with steadfast
truth To their descendants (ll 186 188). Oedipus achievement make Antigone and Ismene elevated in
society. Antigone is basically good, constantly fighting for her brother, Polyneices. Despite Creon s
orders, Antigone insists that Polyneices deserves a proper burial. Creon decrees, I here proclaim to the

Dishonest In The Workplace At Panera Bread
In today s society, people can be dishonest and cheat their way through life. Working in anywhere,
your bosses and coworkers have to gain your trust. For over a year now, I work at Panera Bread. We
are always hiring new staff throughout spring and summer. People come and go for stealing food or
not treating customers with respect. Until recently, one of my managers experienced embezzlement.
My manager is sending her child off to college and taking care of the rest of her family, which is a big
expense. Someone apart of our staff stole three hundred dollars from her purse. She lost her whole
paycheck that she had earned. Everyone was not sure who to trust or rely on anymore. No one was

The Ancient Inventions Of The Future
The Ancient inventions of the future Socrates was one of the greatest philosophers of the ancient
world. His teachings inspired young philosophers to go and explore the world. In addition, His
Knowledge even influenced boundless minds like Plato, who help make gigantic pushes in geometry.
Or Aristotle, who mad giant leaps in astronomy (also made a theory that the earth was round in about
384 B. C.). therefore, a new era of philosophy was inaugurated and the course of western civilization
was decisively shaped. Modern mathematics, Medicine, and cartography was all modernized during
this age of philosophy. Without the Greeks, present ideals and the way we live our life would not be
the same. So it is important that we know what the Greeks invented and their power over our
civilization.
First of all, the use the same form of democracy that we use in America. They decided that a dictator
would have too much control and power. So they got a cabinet of over 500 people for democratic
voting. They voted on taxes all the way up to executions. It worked a lot like our jury system, with
people randomly chosen to serve. As it was said by Scott J. Cooper; Demokratia, Greek for power of
the people, was born in Athens in the 7th century BC. As the city state s oligarchy exploited citizens
and created economic, political and social problems, Athenians were inspired by the successful, semi
democratic model Sparta had adopted. They turned to lawmaker Solon, who tried to help the

Irony In Cast Away
The only real change comes from inside. There is nothing in life that will ever change you drastically
unless you let it. Life will only change you if you let it, that s why people walk around like they are
protecting themselves with an imperceptible forcefield of false sangfroid attempting to act like they
have their entire life together. The only way to perceive change is to go through a slow process of self
development. In the movie Cast Away, Tom Hanks does a marvelous job of portraying how isolation
and desperation can have a negative toll on a fragile mind. Cast Away in its entirety is just one big ball
of irony so to speak. Many instances in this move have a large variety of irony and importance. For
example, after the thanksgiving dinner, Chuck is getting called into work and is required to fly
overseas. Goodbyes are never easy, but Chuck is not thinking about that; Chuck is trying to get back
to Kelly as soon a possible. This is shown by him saying be right back after he steps out of the car.
This very simple action, that has so much meaning behind it. Chucks plane experiences complications
and unfortunately crashes in the middle of the sea. The plane crash thus proves how Chucks statement
of be right back is ironic. Another way the directors are showing irony is not through words, but
actions and camera angles. One of Chucks first actions when he gets onto the island is to write HELP
in the sand, in hopes to catch the attention of a an airplane flying

Spoken Language Discourse Essay
Language is a tool people use to communicate with others, it can be both seen and heard and it can be
standard or diverse. It is the way in which individuals share information and encompasses many forms
including written and spoken, body language and signals, visual stimuli and even the use of electronic
devices. Language can be spoken, written or signed and involves many facets. According to Gee
Hayes, 2011, language is influenced by both social and cultural environments, it is often social in that
it can be personalised to a group or individual and cultural whereby the way a person speaks is relative
to the rules of the society they live in and governed by the cultural acceptances of that society.
Our language is heard when we use spoken language and requires an individual to make and
understand verbal cues and it also provides the necessity to be able code and decode both text and non
verbal cues such as gestures and facial expressions. Within society there exist many Discourses.
Discourses determine how people view language, and more importantly, how they practise it. (Green,
D, 2006, p.3) Within a Discourse there may be many discourses that are different ways of speaking
within the overarching Discourse. For example, within a school setting you have an educational
Discourse that is the language of the department of education used to set the expected standards for
the school. Within this Discourse you have many smaller discourses such as the language used by the

abuse for others such as teammates, fans, opponents. He kept his agreement with Rickey, the coach of
the Dodgers, and kept on going. He avoided fights, ignored the threats of death from the crowd, and
he ignored the opponents complaints. In the text it states, Robinson s first season was difficult. Fans
threatened to kill him; players tried to hurt him. The St. Louis Cardinals said they would strike if he
took the field. He was brave, keeping his cool throughout these events. Also, Jackie had to be very
calm and cool about all of the negative impact put on him. All of the negative comments, abusive acts
towards him, the booing had to be a lot to ignore. He had to have a lot of self restraint to keep his
anger/feelings inside to keep his deal with Rickey. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Career Is A Successful Internship
How to Accomplish a Successful Internship
For a college student, internship experience not only broadens one s horizons, but it also enriches one
s resume. For me, an internship is a good way to apply what I ve learned at school to professional
experience. While we students are seeking internship opportunities to qualify ourselves for good job
positions, figuring out what we have obtained from internship experience and preparing for future
internships or jobs is even more important.
The book They Don t Teach Corporate in College gives me instructions of how to follow a successful
career path. While combining my personal internship experience with what I learned from the book, I
have a better understanding of how to prepare, pursue and finally accomplish a successful internship.
To begin with, you need to know about yourself. Figuring out your strengths and weaknesses can help
you find suitable fields and relevant jobs quickly and accurately. I once worked as an assistant for a
financial accountant in the Trade and Finance Department at Bank of China. One of the reasons I got
the internship was because the department desired interns who had good English writing skills. While
I am an international student studying in America, the manager thought I had the skills. Therefore,
knowing about your skills and making the best use of them on your resumes can lead to internship
opportunities.
After knowing about what skills you are good at and what fields you might work in, go online

Comparing Superman And Me By Sherman Alexie And Salvation...
After contemplating the purpose of a memoir several things came to mind. I believe it can serve to be
cathartic for the writer as they can be set free by working through certain events in their life.
Furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, I think a memoir can serve as a way to for the writer to
tell their story in a vivid way that allows the readers to feel like they are living the experience and
perhaps to learn a valuable lesson from their story. Therefore, I chose to analyze two memoirs they
were Superman and Me by Sherman Alexie and Salvation by Langston Hughes. I concentrated on
trying to determine the purpose of each piece in order to indicate what pivotal aspects were employed
that either helped or hindered them in achieving that purpose. First, In the memoir by Alexie the
overall purpose was to indicate how being able to read afforded him the ability to overcome intense
social and cultural pressures that were imposed upon him merely because of his race. I believe Alexie
was able capture the aforementioned purpose of his work in a clear and impactful way. For instance,
early on he stated that how he had discovered what a paragraph was even before being able to read.
Moreover, he stated that [t]he words inside a paragraph worked together for a common purpose. They
had some specific reason for being inside the same fence. (Alexie 1). Thus, the statement by Alexie
was designed to invoke the thought process of the reader and guide them through his experience in

Virtual Stealing
In Should Gamers Be prosecuted for Virtual Stealing? by Alex Weiss, the author attempts to argue
against a Dutch jury s decision on a case involving virtual theft. The essay discusses a Dutch court
case involving a thirteen year old who stole something from another person inside of a video game.
The author then proceeds into telling readers about stories from a game called EVE. He talks about the
value that the time is worth and his past experiences in EVE. I have found that the author was unable
to write an effective argument. The author showed weak pathos, bad ethos, and crude logos. The
author s pathos was weak in the sense that there was so little of it. He told a story of how he was once
a thief in EVE and that he has since changed. This could get people inspired to turn over a new leaf.
Weiss also stated that Kotaku said that six years of subscriptions to EVE was equivalent to one
thousand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was no real research done about RuneScape, the game the court case was on. This showed the
author to be lazy. He did do research on EVE which shows inconsideration and bias because he chose
to do research on a topic that had nothing to do with the case and it was something he was familiar
with. Weiss shows himself to being bias in the fact that he offers no rebuttal to his argument. The
author willingly gave up information in his personal story that proves himself to be dishonest and
untrustworthy. Weiss stated that he was in an e relationship with someone who thought he was a girl
(729). Weiss did use a good source when it comes to his subject. His source is good for gamers, but
the author is writing to non gamers and they may see his source as unreliable. Weiss has presented
himself to be lazy, bias, inconsiderate, dishonest, and untrustworthy. Weiss ethics will end up being
called into question and this will weaken the effectiveness of his argument rather than present himself

it is the way the snake wraps itself around you and tightens its grip until it kills you. Tropical areas are

dangerous to strike.
8. Cottonmouth
Also referred to as the water moccasin, the bite is more harmful and deadly than that of the
copperhead, but does not lead to death. That much, anyway. It is more aggressive than the copperhead,
but only bites when it is touched. More aggressive reputation and strikes a ready to bite pose. The
snake can get up to six feet long.
7. Common krait
Often considered India s most dangerous snake. The venom contains highly powerful neurotoxins
which cause the muscles to become paralyzed. It has two kinds of neurotoxins (postsynaptic and
presynaptic) that usually affect the nerve endings located close to the synaptic cleft of the brain.
6. Inland Taipan
This snake has the most venom, more than any other snake in the world. If left untreated, the death
rate from a bite from this snake is eighty percent. That being said, this snake does not usually bite, is
actually easy going, and stays away from confrontation.

But with technology advancing at such a rapid rate, the idea of privacy might soon become something
from a fairytale. Especially included, is one s online persona. The American government has begun to
derestrict itself from the bounds of an individual s personal matters online. In reception, many
Americans feel that their natural given rights are being exploited. They feel that the government has
no justifiable reasons to be vigilating information that is not intended for anybody s eyes except its
rightful owner. However, it is truly necessary for the government to observe what citizens are doing
online because it protects both the United States ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes, in order for an individual s own safety, sacrifices have to be made. The government has
full justification to arbitrate the people s online private matters because it is necessary for the
protection of the country and its citizens. One example comes from an underground network called the
deep web . The deep web could be described as the wild west of the internet. Numerous amounts of
information are posted on the deep web where normal search engines like Google or Bing do not
show. According to Tyler Biscontini, a writer for the Salem Press, the deep web is useful for many
different reasons. It provides anonymity to anyone using it. Special software must be downloaded in
order to run the deep web. This is mainly because the deep web s main feature is that the user s ip
address is changed so that they can roam the web free of the fear of being tracked. It also provides a
significant greater amount of information that is not accessible on a normal browser. Journalist
especially, use the deep web in order to dive into research and scouting topics for future stories.
However, the deep web can also be a dangerous place. Many individuals take advantage of its features
for wrongdoing. Due to the anonymity that comes with accessing the deep web, it is hard to track
down individuals performing the crimes. Lev Grossman, a writer for Time Magazine, describes an
occurrence that happened

Racial Discrimination And Capital Punishment
Racial discrimination and capital punishment has been a heated topic discussed ever since the 1972
case Furman v. Georgia. In the article, Does Racial Discrimination Make Capital Punishment Wrong?
by Stephen Nathanson, his position in this argument is affirmative as he argues that racial
discrimination makes capital punishment wrong since death penalty is administered in an arbitrary
manner. Arbitrariness is the quality of being determined by chance or impulse, and not by reason or
principle. He claims capital punishment has been used disproportionately and arbitrarily since black
people who murder are more likely to be executed than white people. His position rests on an
argument from analogy. He gives two analogies, in which he compares two cases which he explains
one, that he tells his class that anyone who plagiarizes will fail the course. Three students of his
plagiarize papers, but only one receives a failing grade. The other two, in describing their motivation,
win his sympathy. The second analogy, in his child s birthday party, he offers a price to the child who
can solve a particular puzzle. Three children, including his own solve the puzzle. He cannot reward
them all, so he gives the price to his own child. He states in these cases that the people involved are
treated unjust because it would have been better to fail no one that to fail a single student. Or to give
the prize to no one than to his child alone. He undermines his critics initial arguments

White Man s Burden Speech Summary
In the speech Effects of colonialism of Africa s past and present Dr. Motsoko Pheko believes that
colonization of Africa was unhealthy for Africa. Europeans made Africa worse than what it was, they
treated Africa as a money making place and didn t care if they had to kill people in order to do so.For
example, Pheko states Africa has suffered the worst genocide and holocaust at the hands of the
architects of slavery and colonialism (Pheko). This example of pathos demonstrates that Africans have
been treated unfairly throughout the years. Europeans have tried to demolish Africa and tear into it as
a toy, Africa s colonization turned Africa into a subhuman country. The use of the word worst
genocide appeals to emotion by showing that Europeans treated Africans as less than human. Therefore
Pheko uses pathos to advance his view that colonialism is unhealthy for Africa. ... Show more content

They were also sure that they could never at any time fit in the shoes of the Native Americans who

Compare And Contrast Young Goodman Brown And The Lottery
Introduction Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown and Shirley Jackson s The Lottery both
tell stories using literary techniques of tone, symbolism, and irony that help to convey stories that
leave the reader baffled by their ending. Although Hawthorne and Jackson utilize these literary
techniques in a different way, both of the stories end with a sense of darkness.
Tone
Hawthorne and Jackson have set different tones for their stories. Nathaniel Hawthorne creates a tone
that is somber and serious throughout most of the story of Yong Goodman Brown . The story tells of a
man, Goodman Brown, discovering evil. Even though Goodman Brown has apprehension about going
on the journey in the forest, he allows his curiosity to get the best of him and decides to attend the evil
ceremony in the forest. The tone of the story corresponds with the action occurring in the plot as one
of somberness. Brown goes along in his journey expecting something evil to take place. After learning
the nature of evil, he begins to feel that he is constantly surrounded by evil. This changes his attitude
from his background of piety and faith to a dark place that suspects evil in everything including his
wife. Unlike Young Goodman Brown , the tone of The Lottery begins with an anticipation of ... Show

Rescue During The Holocaust Essay
The dictionary definition of rescue is to save someone from a harmful, dangerous, or violent situation.
This perfectly describes rescue during the holocaust because many people were being saved during a
very harmful, dangerous, and violent event. Rescue was a very critical part of the holocaust that
people need to learn about the importance and the examples of rescue during the holocaust. There
were a few key parts of holocaust rescue: dangers of rescue, famous and less famous rescues, specific
details of rescues, and persecution of rescuers. The holocaust was a terrible event that showed how
some humans can be violent and cruel. It also though showed how humans can also be great, helpful
and safe lives in life taking situations. Rescue during the holocaust was a very critical point of the

Spanish and Portuguese established their Empires in the Americas, creating all new political structure,

Spanking A Child Essay
The textbook defines physical child abuse as, any act that results in a nonaccidental physical injury by
a person who has care, custody, or control of a child (p.157). Many people disagree on what the term
child abuse means. Yelling at a child or spanking a child is not considered child abuse based on this
definition. However it is possible that spanking a child can cause injury, but most medical and legal
authorities will not consider it child abuse unless the force is sufficient to leave marks. A number of
parents spank their children in order to teach them discipline when they do not listen or act out, but
because of the controversial question of whether or not spanking is child abuse most parents have
sought other forms of discipline. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Committee on the Rights of the Child in the General Comment No. 8 defines corporal punishment
as, any punishment in which physical force is used and intended to cause some degree of pain or
discomfort, however light. Most involves hitting ( smacking , slapping , spanking ) children, with the
hand or with an implement (unicef website). Corporal punishment has been used in schools as a
method of discipline and as a form of punishment for committing a crime. Some people will say that
corporal punishment is no different from physical abuse, because your intending to cause some degree
of pain or discomfort. However from my personal experience I went to an elementary school where
they were allowed to spank the children as long as the child s parents had signed an approval form. So
needless to say if I ever got sent down to the principles officer for acting out or being bad my parents
gave the principle permission to spank me. I believe that there is a difference between corporal
punishment and physical abuse. Corporal punishment is a method of disciplining a child or person for
acting out or for committing a crime, whereas physical abuse is causing nonaccidnetal physical injury
for no apparent reason. My parents raised me to know that if I did something bad I was bound to get a

Last Summer Travi $ Scott
Last summer Travi$ Scott released Days Before Rodeo, a free mixtape that wouldn t just serve as the
unofficial countdown for his debut album, but give listeners a sense of what the rapper/producer is
working with sonically. Pounding, acerbic drums, thick, hazy atmospheres, and a confrontational
predisposition would establish Scott as a fearless rising star in rap music. And although the tape was a
welcome shift from the amateurish shlock that plagued his debut tape Owl Pharaoh, it also did very
little to invite the listener into Scott s world. Even if Scott had trouble lining up his greatest attributes,
his talent was certainly evident. His production choices, which have been carefully excavated from the
post 808s Heartbreak musical landscape and Atlanta s grab bag of innovations, can be intriguing, and
his rebellious posturing certainly strikes a chord with a certain angsty personality type. Those rare
moments when he finds the right balance Basement Freestyle is perhaps the best example can add up
to something quite uncanny. With the clock no longer ticking, Scott returns with Rodeo, an album that
looks to position the 21 year old as a curator of supreme taste, as well darken his already moody blues.
At fourteen tracks Rodeo presents blockbuster names (Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Justin Bieber,
The Weeknd), noteworthy rap talent (Chief Keef, Future, Swae Lee, Quavo, Young Thug), and in
demand producers (Metro Boomin, Southside, TM88, Zaytoven, FKi, WondaGurl).

How Does Hamlet Change Throughout The Play
Hamlet a tragic play written by William Shakespeare about a young Prince named Hamlet, who is
trying to take revenge for his father s murder at the hand of his uncle Claudius. At first Hamlet did not
believe the ghost of his father so he sets a play acting out how his father died to see if Claudius is the
one who killed his father by his reaction to the play. Once he finds out, Hamlet becomes angry and
eventually kills Claudius. Unfortunately, Hamlet and all the rest of the main characters all end up dead
by the end of the play. Psychoanalytic literary theory usually focuses on the author and characters

The play Hamlet written by Shakespeare is a great book since the psychoanalytic theory illuminates
the play itself. For instance the play illustrates how each characters unconscious drives change and it
also illustrates the Oedipus complex. The Oedipus complex in this play is when Hamlet doesn t like to
see his mother with another man who isn t his father. For example the quote when Hamlet says Seems
, madam! Nay, it is; I know not seems. / Tis not my inky cloak, good mother, / Nor customary suits of

father since the quote talks about how he is wearing black and talking about how he is in pain of his
loss (1.2.78 88). So here the Oedipus complex is a success since his father died and he can marry his
mother. So therefore the play is well illustrated that the psychoanalytic theory helps to illuminate the

This is a proposal to reform California s taxes. Instead of taxing Californians businesses, which can
just simply relocate to another state, California should tax mainly what can never leave its borders its
real estate. In addition, California should stop state income and sales taxes.
This is a very feasible proposal. Many states like Texas and Florida have no income tax and lower
sales tax, but higher property taxes at 2% to 3%, compared to California s property tax of 1%.
California s state tax revenue is comprised of 31.2% property taxes, 30.1% sales taxes, and 31.7%
individual and corporate income taxes. If the property taxes were raised to 3% or 4% for all property,
including houses and commercial and investment real estate, sales and income taxes will no longer be
necessary.
Although tripling the property tax bill will alarm many, it will be compensated by no state sales tax
(highest at 10.0%) and income tax (highest rate at 13.3%). Eliminating the income tax will increase
take home pay for everyone. The state will appear more attractive than its neighboring states and thus,
draw new businesses, create jobs, and trigger an influx of talented workers. This will then induce
rising house demands as more people and companies relocate to California to reap the tax benefits and
will make up the expected decline in house

Inherit The Wind Analysis
Restricted Freedom Inherit the Wind, based on the famous Scopes Monkey Trial in the small town
Dayton, Tennessee, was written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. The play was not intended to
depict the actual history or the proceedings in the Scopes trial but it was used as a vehicle for
exploring social concern and anti intellectualism that existed in the Americas during the1950s. In the
play, Bert Cates rebels against the laws against the teachings of evolution in schools. He deems this
law to be threating the students intellectual freedom and ability to reflect on their own opinions and
outlooks. Throughout the play many themes arise such as intellectual curiosity, narrowmindedness,
limited perception, and the importance of religion. Bert Cates, a small town teacher, is imprisoned in
jail for teaching evolution in his high school biology class. Everyone considers him to be wrong for
filling putting these thoughts into children s minds, but is he mistaken? The essential theme expressed
in Inherit the Wind is narrow mindedness against intellectual curiosity. As the play opens, the writers
described the town of Hillsboro as being visible always, looming there, as much on trial as the
individual defendant, as found on page three of the play. They go onto describing the courtroom with
walls, in which the town square, shops, and streets were always evident. The writers zoomed in on the

Rap American Culture
Rap music has taken its shape over the last six decades, starting in the 60s and still modernizing today.
Over the last fifty years a new era has developed in American culture. This era is modern rap. Rap has
taken over modern culture as a popular form of music for many different age groups. The rap industry
has been booming for the past three decades. With what I have said, this leads me to my research
question. How has modern rap come to be in American culture? Rap is actually a very old term dating
back to 15th century Europe. The term rap originally meant to strike or hit something. ( Cole Mize

new type of lesser known rap has begun to emerge. This style being Gospel or Christian rap. Some of
the best known Christian rap artist being Lecrae and tobyMac. ( Wikipedia ) I completely agree that
these are the two main artists since they have been very prominent for a while. Andy Mineo has
become popular and many people leave him out of the conversation. This genre of rap is so different
from all other forms of rap. It is used as a way of expressing protestant traditions. ( Wikipedia )
Christian rap has grown popular enough to get its own categories at Christian Award shows such as,
GMA Dove Awards and Stellar Awards. ( Wikipedia ) However, Christian rap does not have as diverse
of an audience as the mainstream rap audience. Christian rap typically is followed by the white church
going population. So, why exactly is learning about the history of rap important? It is important
because it has become such a large part of our modern culture. Learning more about it is necessary to
further understand why it is such a large part of our society. Some people may disapprove of what rap
has come to be due to its current negative connotation.

The Acquisition Of Child Language
Introduction
The acquisition of child language has become a heated debate in which many discuss how and when a
child is able to learn both their first and even their second language. The critical period hypothesis is a
theory which claims that after a certain age children will no longer be able to achieve a native level of
fluency in any given language. This essay aims to dissect the evidence which supports and contradicts
this, and will draw upon studies and experiments conducted on both human children and even more
broadly in a number of different species. As children approach the age of 17/18 months their ability to
learn language is accelerated and they enter the vocabulary spurt (lasting several months) during
which they can acquire on average 10 new naming words a day (Beverly A. Goldeld and J. Steven
Reznick, 1990, Early lexical acquisition: rate, content, and the vocabulary spurt, Journal of Child
Language). This phenomena appears to be limited to children of this age, however could this occur in
older children or adolescents, who have experienced a lack of exposure to language or, who are
attempting to learn a second language? Is this speed of acquisition solely restricted to those in this
particular ( sensitive ) stage of their lives?
The Critical Period Outlined
The concept of a critical period has been defined in many different ways, however, certain criteria are
often seen in most of the definitions discussed over time: the idea that this period is

construct a strategy or method to surpass them. Challenge should often come with a reward for
completing them so that the player will feel more motivated to complete them.
Rather than just points, money etc. as rewards; rewards such as new abilities, a new part of the map to
explore, a new item or even a new task can be given. These rewards are motivating and also help to
keep the player enjoying the game through side quests/challenges, instead of just playing the game to
win.
Freedom
Freedom includes the range of different choices and paths that can be made to complete an objective.
For example, going through the front door can attract a lot of attention while the side door will not.
You can choose whether you want a huge gunfight between you and the enemy or rather take a
stealthy approach.

Retrograde and Anterograde Amnesia Essay examples
Retrograde and Anterograde Amnesia
Darling, what did you say was Sue s number?
I don t remember stripping at Dan s birthday party last year!
No officer, I don t know what happened after the accident. I can t even remember my name.
Amnesia is the partial or complete loss of memory, most commonly is temporary and for only a short
period of time. (1). There are various degrees of amnesia with the most commonly occurrence being
either retrograde or anterograde amnesia. Prior to my research into this subject I did not know much
about amnesia besides what is portrayed in the Disney movie Anesthesia in which Anesthesia cannot
remember her traumatic childhood. While I recognize that there is a huge difference between

555 2695. Okay, 555 2695. 555 2596, 555 2965. Wait, what did you say the number was again?
This is an example of short term memory.
Long term memory is the information we retain after a day, two weeks, or ten years. (4).
In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
This is an example of long term memory as almost every child is asked to commit this fact to memory.
So, what does all this have to do with amnesia? Well, I m glad you asked. Information flows in
through the middle of our brain and branches out like a tree. Before that information goes to different
areas, it goes through a channeling/filter system. In this regard, the brain is like a mailroom this
information goes into this box, and that letter goes into that box. (4). In order for short term memory
to become long term memory, it must go through a process know as consolidation. During
consolidation, short term memory is repeatedly activated so much that certain chemical and physical
changes occur in the brain, permanently embedding the memory for long term access. It is believed
that consolidation takes place in the hippocampi, located in the temporal lobe regions of the brain.
Medical research indicates that it is the frontal and temporal lobes that most often damaged during
head injury. (3).
As the amnesiac recovers, he or she usually recalls older memories first, and then more recent
memories. (3). However, memories tend to return like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle; these bits

Evaluating Credibility And Its Impact On The Society Of...
Introduction
When a person reads a source for information the reader wants that information to be reliable so they
could trust the source meaning the reader needs their information source to be credible. Credibility is
important because everyone on the planet could write on a topic, but that does not mean that what they
wrote is true and should be believed in. People who write more often than not have an agenda. To
make the reader feel a certain way or to make them believe in what the author told them too.
Evaluating credibility means looking into the author and their agenda, the publisher to see where the
information comes from, evidence of bias, uses of sources to support their information, verifiability to
see if it still holds context, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Objective Summaries Source Credibility Analysis
The article Rehabilitate or punish? written by Etienne Benson on apa.org the website of the American
Psychological Association provides insight on the topic of the concept of rehabilitating prisoners
especially the mentally ill or to continue following the get tough on crime method. The article also
factors in how psychology can better help even non mentally ill prisoners to better be able to transition
into citizen life without re imprisonment than go hard core on the prisoners to prove a point. Rating
the article while evaluating on a six point scale. I gave the article a score of (). In the category of
author, I give the article a five since he has a proficient writing experience, but not particularly in the
field of psychology. He is a historian in the field of science, technology, and the environment (). For
the publisher, I give the score of six because the source is an educational professional site in the field
of psychology which is what the article is about. In the evidence of bias category, I give the article a
three. The author has a strong preference to giving the prisoners the mental help they need instead of
just punishing them. Going on to explain why he believes that people should help them, but not really
going into the other side of the argument. For the use of sources, I give

Netball Is A Ball Sport Played By Two Teams Of Seven Players
Netball is a ball sport played by two teams of seven players. Its development, derived from early
versions of basketball, began in England in the 1890s. By 1960, international playing rules had been
standardised for the game, and the International Federation of Netball and Women s Basketball (later
renamed the International Netball Federation (INF)) was formed. As of 2011, the INF comprises more
than 60 national teams organized into five global regions.
Games are played on a rectangular court with raised goal rings at each end. Each team attempts to
score goals by passing a ball down the court and shooting it through its goal ring. Players are assigned
specific positions, which define their roles within the team and restrict their movement to certain areas
of the court. During general play, a player with the ball can hold on to it for only three seconds before
shooting for a goal or passing to another player. The winning team is the one that scores the most
goals. Netball games are 60 minutes long. Variations have been developed to increase the game s pace
and appeal to a wider audience.
Netball is most popular in Commonwealth nations, specifically in schools, and is predominantly
played by women. According to the INF, netball is played by more than 20 million people in more
than 80 countries.[12][13] Major transnational competitions take place, including the Netball
Superleague in Great Britain and the ANZ Championship in Australia and New Zealand. Three major

Krik Edwidge Danticat Analysis
Sometimes it s relaxing to let other people handle your decisions for you. Other times it s restraining.
The case between Haitians and their government certainly falls on the restricting side. The Haitians
often turn to the only thing they have a chance at their freedom in: death. Edwidge Danticat, author of
Krik? Krak! uses a collection of short stories to educate developed countries on the situation most of
them have been blissfully ignorant of. Danticat uses the symbols of sky and blood to intertwine the
themes of freedom and death. Most of the stories have death as their last choice in life for Haitians,
but not everyone gets it as a choice. Swiss s birth and almost immediate death in Children of the Sea
strike a chord in the boy s heart. He says, If she was my daughter, I would call her Soleil, Sun, Moon,
or Star, after the elements (18). Her death reminds him of the freedom that comes along with it, and
wishes for her entire being to represent it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still reaching for the freedom they yearned, but free from their lives. When Guy falls to his death,
Danticat illustrates his eyes, And those eyes, those night colored eyes. Though clouded with blood,
Guy s eyes were still bulging open (66). His eyes reflect death and freedom within it. He managed to
gain his greatest wish, but at the cost of spilling much blood. When the foreman asks if he should
close Guy s eyes, Guy s wife tells him, Leave them open . . . my husband, he likes to look at the sky
(67). He still stared towards the ultimate goal, but at least achieved a part of it, the blood and the sky

The Center For Urban Sustainable Planning
Executive summary
The Center for Urban Sustainable Planning (CUSP) was established in 1996 as a United States 501(c)
(3) non profit organization intended to educate city planners and government officials on sustainable
urban planning programs for low to mid range developing countries and assist them in developing
urban systems that serve industry, tourism, and provide opportunities for the urban poor. Our areas of
expertise include urban planning, tenure rights, economic development, infrastructure,
environmentally friendly development, social engagement, poverty reduction, zoning codes,
legislation, and residential housing focused on provision of adequate housing for the urban poor.
The CUSP mission is to ensure that city planners, government officials, transnational corporations,
and the international community engages in urban planning activities to build better cities that serve
their entire population in environmental and economically sustainable ways.
We are aware that with increasing migration to urban centers by both professionals seeking work, as
well as those in low skill, no skill industries, there are increasing challenges for these various
stakeholders and decision makers in the area of providing adequate housing, infrastructure, and
services that reach the poor and lower middle class residents, while also providing infrastructure that
serves investors well and will attract their more highly paid professional staff to areas where they
would like to develop

  • 2. The Eggs of the World Boiled Down The Eggs of the World boiled down In The Eggs of the World, Toshio Mori writes about 3 men meeting, one rich, one a poor drunkard, and the narrator. The point of view Toshio Mori uses in this story is peripheral first person. This use of a somewhat uncommon way of writing and viewing a story gives a look at events that is objective while not being unfeeling. Peripheral first person gives balance between personal stake in the matter, but not so much as to lose objective view. This viewpoint also gives new looks on the characters surrounding the author, giving both personal opinion and removed observation. Lastly, peripheral 1st person gives a twist on which facts may or may not be included in a narrative. In The Eggs of the World the use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hasegawa burst out laughing the minute Sessue Matoi stepped out of the house. He didn t (Mori 364). This is different from if the story was being told by Mr. Hasegawa himself or if it had been written by a 3rd person narrator, one would have no shock in the lack of a laugh and the other would not be expecting a laugh. In this way the characterizations change because of personal experience, and so are affected by 1st person peripheral narration in this story. Personal experience also influences the inclusion or omission of facts in The Eggs of the World. When the author speaks of previous encounters with Sessue Matoi, he shows Matoi as a drunkard but points to the fact that he is not just drunk, but also quite smart. There was seldom a time when one did not see him staggering full of drink. The trouble was that people did not know when he was sober or drunk. He was very clever when he was drunk and also very clever when sober (Mori 361). This is personal experience affecting the omission or inclusion of facts because a if Mr. Hasegawa was telling the story he might not focus on this point of confusion and if a third person narrator was telling the story, the fact that one could almost never tell whether Matoi is drunk or not would not have as much meaning. The frustrated tsar responded by stepping down from power, ending the 300 year old Romanov dynasty (Farah, 580). With the tsar out of power, a new provisional government took over made up of middle class Duma representatives. All of the soviets worked to push a three point program which called for an immediate peas, the transfer of land to peasants, and control of factories to workers. But the provisional government stood in conflict with the other smaller governments and the hardships of war hit the country. The provisional government was so busy fighting the war that they neglected the social problems it faced, losing much needed support (Farah, 580). • 4. How Is Antigone A Tragic Hero The play Antigone by Sophocles shows the main character, Antigone, as a tragic hero. In the play, Antigone wants to honor her brother, Polyneices, who died on the battlefield, by burying him properly. Yet, Creon forbids anyone to bury Polyneices or the punishment is death. In this situation, Antigone shows that she is elevated, basically good, has a downfall from fate, and struggles heroically, making her a tragic hero. Antigone as a tragic hero demonstrates that even in ancient times heroes were admired and commonly talked about in stories, even to this day. In the play, Antigone has an elevated place in society. Antigone and her sister Ismene are daughters of Oedipus, and nieces of Creon, the king of Thebes. Oedipus saved the city and this allowed for his daughters to have higher social rankings. When Oedipus saved our city and then again When he died and you remained with steadfast truth To their descendants (ll 186 188). Oedipus achievement make Antigone and Ismene elevated in society. His teachings inspired young philosophers to go and explore the world. In addition, His Knowledge even influenced boundless minds like Plato, who help make gigantic pushes in geometry. Or Aristotle, who mad giant leaps in astronomy (also made a theory that the earth was round in about 384 B. C.). therefore, a new era of philosophy was inaugurated and the course of western civilization was decisively shaped. Modern mathematics, Medicine, and cartography was all modernized during this age of philosophy. Without the Greeks, present ideals and the way we live our life would not be the same. So it is important that we know what the Greeks invented and their power over our civilization. First of all, the use the same form of democracy that we use in America. They decided that a dictator would have too much control and power. So they got a cabinet of over 500 people for democratic voting. They voted on taxes all the way up to executions. It worked a lot like our jury system, with people randomly chosen to serve. As it was said by Scott J. Cooper; Demokratia, Greek for power of the people, was born in Athens in the 7th century BC. As the city state s oligarchy exploited citizens and created economic, political and social problems, Athenians were inspired by the successful, semi democratic model Sparta had adopted. • 10. Irony In Cast Away The only real change comes from inside. There is nothing in life that will ever change you drastically unless you let it. Life will only change you if you let it, that s why people walk around like they are protecting themselves with an imperceptible forcefield of false sangfroid attempting to act like they have their entire life together. The only way to perceive change is to go through a slow process of self development. In the movie Cast Away, Tom Hanks does a marvelous job of portraying how isolation and desperation can have a negative toll on a fragile mind. Cast Away in its entirety is just one big ball of irony so to speak. Many instances in this move have a large variety of irony and importance. For example, after the thanksgiving dinner, Chuck is getting called into work and is required to fly overseas. Goodbyes are never easy, but Chuck is not thinking about that; Chuck is trying to get back to Kelly as soon a possible. This is shown by him saying be right back after he steps out of the car. This very simple action, that has so much meaning behind it. Chucks plane experiences complications and unfortunately crashes in the middle of the sea. The plane crash thus proves how Chucks statement of be right back is ironic. Another way the directors are showing irony is not through words, but actions and camera angles. One of Chucks first actions when he gets onto the island is to write HELP in the sand, in hopes to catch the attention of a an airplane flying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Spoken Language Discourse Essay Language is a tool people use to communicate with others, it can be both seen and heard and it can be standard or diverse. It is the way in which individuals share information and encompasses many forms including written and spoken, body language and signals, visual stimuli and even the use of electronic devices. Language can be spoken, written or signed and involves many facets. According to Gee Hayes, 2011, language is influenced by both social and cultural environments, it is often social in that it can be personalised to a group or individual and cultural whereby the way a person speaks is relative to the rules of the society they live in and governed by the cultural acceptances of that society. Our language is heard when we use spoken language and requires an individual to make and understand verbal cues and it also provides the necessity to be able code and decode both text and non verbal cues such as gestures and facial expressions. Within society there exist many Discourses. Discourses determine how people view language, and more importantly, how they practise it. (Green, D, 2006, p.3) Within a Discourse there may be many discourses that are different ways of speaking within the overarching Discourse. For example, within a school setting you have an educational Discourse that is the language of the department of education used to set the expected standards for the school. Within this Discourse you have many smaller discourses such as the language used by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I believe it can serve to be cathartic for the writer as they can be set free by working through certain events in their life. Furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, I think a memoir can serve as a way to for the writer to tell their story in a vivid way that allows the readers to feel like they are living the experience and perhaps to learn a valuable lesson from their story. Therefore, I chose to analyze two memoirs they were Superman and Me by Sherman Alexie and Salvation by Langston Hughes. I concentrated on trying to determine the purpose of each piece in order to indicate what pivotal aspects were employed that either helped or hindered them in achieving that purpose. First, In the memoir by Alexie the overall purpose was to indicate how being able to read afforded him the ability to overcome intense social and cultural pressures that were imposed upon him merely because of his race. I believe Alexie was able capture the aforementioned purpose of his work in a clear and impactful way. For instance, early on he stated that how he had discovered what a paragraph was even before being able to read. Moreover, he stated that [t]he words inside a paragraph worked together for a common purpose. They had some specific reason for being inside the same fence. (Alexie 1). Sometimes, in order for an individual s own safety, sacrifices have to be made. The government has full justification to arbitrate the people s online private matters because it is necessary for the protection of the country and its citizens. One example comes from an underground network called the deep web . The deep web could be described as the wild west of the internet. Numerous amounts of information are posted on the deep web where normal search engines like Google or Bing do not show. According to Tyler Biscontini, a writer for the Salem Press, the deep web is useful for many different reasons. It provides anonymity to anyone using it. Special software must be downloaded in order to run the deep web. This is mainly because the deep web s main feature is that the user s ip address is changed so that they can roam the web free of the fear of being tracked. It also provides a significant greater amount of information that is not accessible on a normal browser. Journalist especially, use the deep web in order to dive into research and scouting topics for future stories. However, the deep web can also be a dangerous place. Many individuals take advantage of its features for wrongdoing. Due to the anonymity that comes with accessing the deep web, it is hard to track down individuals performing the crimes. • 22. Racial Discrimination And Capital Punishment Racial discrimination and capital punishment has been a heated topic discussed ever since the 1972 case Furman v. Georgia. In the article, Does Racial Discrimination Make Capital Punishment Wrong? by Stephen Nathanson, his position in this argument is affirmative as he argues that racial discrimination makes capital punishment wrong since death penalty is administered in an arbitrary manner. Arbitrariness is the quality of being determined by chance or impulse, and not by reason or principle. He claims capital punishment has been used disproportionately and arbitrarily since black people who murder are more likely to be executed than white people. His position rests on an argument from analogy. He gives two analogies, in which he compares two cases which he explains one, that he tells his class that anyone who plagiarizes will fail the course. Three students of his plagiarize papers, but only one receives a failing grade. The other two, in describing their motivation, win his sympathy. The second analogy, in his child s birthday party, he offers a price to the child who can solve a particular puzzle. Three children, including his own solve the puzzle. He cannot reward them all, so he gives the price to his own child. He states in these cases that the people involved are treated unjust because it would have been better to fail no one that to fail a single student. Or to give the prize to no one than to his child alone. He undermines his critics initial arguments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And although the tape was a welcome shift from the amateurish shlock that plagued his debut tape Owl Pharaoh, it also did very little to invite the listener into Scott s world. The play was not intended to depict the actual history or the proceedings in the Scopes trial but it was used as a vehicle for exploring social concern and anti intellectualism that existed in the Americas during the1950s. In the play, Bert Cates rebels against the laws against the teachings of evolution in schools. He deems this law to be threating the students intellectual freedom and ability to reflect on their own opinions and outlooks. Throughout the play many themes arise such as intellectual curiosity, narrowmindedness, limited perception, and the importance of religion. Bert Cates, a small town teacher, is imprisoned in jail for teaching evolution in his high school biology class. Everyone considers him to be wrong for filling putting these thoughts into children s minds, but is he mistaken? The essential theme expressed in Inherit the Wind is narrow mindedness against intellectual curiosity. • 39. The Acquisition Of Child Language Introduction The acquisition of child language has become a heated debate in which many discuss how and when a child is able to learn both their first and even their second language. The critical period hypothesis is a theory which claims that after a certain age children will no longer be able to achieve a native level of fluency in any given language. This essay aims to dissect the evidence which supports and contradicts this, and will draw upon studies and experiments conducted on both human children and even more broadly in a number of different species. As children approach the age of 17/18 months their ability to learn language is accelerated and they enter the vocabulary spurt (lasting several months) during which they can acquire on average 10 new naming words a day (Beverly A. Goldeld and J. Steven Reznick, 1990, Early lexical acquisition: rate, content, and the vocabulary spurt, Journal of Child Language). This phenomena appears to be limited to children of this age, however could this occur in older children or adolescents, who have experienced a lack of exposure to language or, who are attempting to learn a second language? Is this speed of acquisition solely restricted to those in this particular ( sensitive ) stage of their lives? Wait, what did you say the number was again? This is an example of short term memory. Long term memory is the information we retain after a day, two weeks, or ten years. (4). In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue. This is an example of long term memory as almost every child is asked to commit this fact to memory. So, what does all this have to do with amnesia? Well, I m glad you asked. Information flows in through the middle of our brain and branches out like a tree. Before that information goes to different areas, it goes through a channeling/filter system. In this regard, the brain is like a mailroom this information goes into this box, and that letter goes into that box. (4). In order for short term memory to become long term memory, it must go through a process know as consolidation. During consolidation, short term memory is repeatedly activated so much that certain chemical and physical changes occur in the brain, permanently embedding the memory for long term access. It is believed that consolidation takes place in the hippocampi, located in the temporal lobe regions of the brain. Medical research indicates that it is the frontal and temporal lobes that most often damaged during head injury. (3). As the amnesiac recovers, he or she usually recalls older memories first, and then more recent memories. (3). However, memories tend to return like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle; these bits ... • 43. Netball Is A Ball Sport Played By Two Teams Of Seven Players Netball is a ball sport played by two teams of seven players. Its development, derived from early versions of basketball, began in England in the 1890s. By 1960, international playing rules had been standardised for the game, and the International Federation of Netball and Women s Basketball (later renamed the International Netball Federation (INF)) was formed. As of 2011, the INF comprises more than 60 national teams organized into five global regions. Games are played on a rectangular court with raised goal rings at each end. Each team attempts to score goals by passing a ball down the court and shooting it through its goal ring. Players are assigned specific positions, which define their roles within the team and restrict their movement to certain areas of the court. During general play, a player with the ball can hold on to it for only three seconds before shooting for a goal or passing to another player. The winning team is the one that scores the most goals. Netball games are 60 minutes long. Variations have been developed to increase the game s pace and appeal to a wider audience. Netball is most popular in Commonwealth nations, specifically in schools, and is predominantly played by women. According to the INF, netball is played by more than 20 million people in more than 80 countries.[12][13] Major transnational competitions take place, including the Netball Superleague in Great Britain and the ANZ Championship in Australia and New Zealand. • 44. Krik Edwidge Danticat Analysis Sometimes it s relaxing to let other people handle your decisions for you. Other times it s restraining. The case between Haitians and their government certainly falls on the restricting side. The Haitians often turn to the only thing they have a chance at their freedom in: death. Edwidge Danticat, author of Krik? Krak! uses a collection of short stories to educate developed countries on the situation most of them have been blissfully ignorant of. Danticat uses the symbols of sky and blood to intertwine the themes of freedom and death. Most of the stories have death as their last choice in life for Haitians, but not everyone gets it as a choice. Swiss s birth and almost immediate death in Children of the Sea strike a chord in the boy s heart. He says, If she was my daughter, I would call her Soleil, Sun, Moon, or Star, after the elements (18). Her death reminds him of the freedom that comes along with it, and wishes for her entire being to represent it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
