involved with his classmates due to the language barrier. In the autobiography Hunger of Memory
by Richard Rodriguez, Rodriguez himself had difficulties participating in class, and interacting

I was raised in what now would be called White privilege. The Edgemont area in Provo, Utah was an
extremely homogenous culture. My family, along with most of the other families in my
neighborhood were young, White, middle class, highly educated, conservative, heterosexual, and
