Natural Resource Wealth In The United States
Various quantitative studies have drawn a statistical link between the level of natural resource wealth
and political regime type (Michael Ross, 2001, Paul Stevens, 2007). Looking at the bigger picture, the
Middle East region has defied two global patterns: it has become wealthier without becoming
democratic; and it has become wealthier without making much progress toward gender equality
(Michael Ross, 2012). The Middle East is characterized by having less democracy and more oil for
decades, than any otherworld region (Michael Ross, 2012). Yet, it is said that oil wealth usually
indicates authoritarianism; associated with corruption, economic instability, and conflict and the
United Arab Emirates may not be an exception to this. The United ... Show more content on

This unitary Islamic absolute monarchy possesses 18 per cent of the world s proven petroleum
reserves and ranks as the largest exporter of petroleum (OPEC, 2015), also is a member of the
Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. The oil production is responsible for about 50% of
the Gross Domestic Product, and about 85% of export earnings (OPEC). Although it is the world s
greatest exporter, its GDP per capita is only $24,454. Saudi Arabia ranks weakly on the Human
Development Index as number 59 of the 182 states in the world, and it is only number 8 between the
other MENA countries. Although Saudi Arabia s elite is very wealthy and large, a great portion of the
population barely receives profits from the state s wealth. It is ranked as not free relating to civil
liberties and also ranked as suffering hard from corruption. Also, the political parties in Saudi Arabia
are banned, and political organizations that oppose may only exist outside the country (Freedom
House, 2015). Even before the discovery of oil, the family that was in power depended on the
merchants of Jeddah, a Saudi Arabian city, to collect their taxes. When oil was discovered in Saudi
Arabia, that is when the country started to develop, just like the United Arab Emirates. It can be said
that if a country has strong institutions, stable economy, and a flexible political system, they

Professionalism In The Workplace
Introduction Professionalism is a term that has existed for a long time. Its definition varies from one
individual or era to the other. For some, being professional is seen as dressing elegantly at work, or
doing an excellent job. For others, however, being professional is translated as having higher degrees
or other certifications. Nonetheless, professionalism comprises all of these definitions, although it also
constitutes much more. It is the level of aptitude or excellence, as well as the aim, conduct or qualities
that professionals have. A profession is a compensated occupation that necessitates one to have formal
credentials and training as well as a certain range of skills. The essay will reflect on professionalism,
how it has changed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In most cases, applying expert knowledge at work can help solve major organizational problems as
experts incorporate their skills in the affected areas. Further, unlike in the traditional setups where
professionals were self employed and worked as individuals, change in times has led to experts
becoming a part of large organizations. In the current world, all professionals are a part of a larger
group that regulate and govern their activities and services. Therefore, there is lesser recognition or
value of such as compared to professionals in the past, who were vastly renowned and provided their
services to a large portion of society (Butterfield,

Art Historians And Enthusiasts Alike
Egyptian artifacts captivate the attention of art historians and enthusiasts alike. The unknown artifact
shown in Fig. 1. is one of these Egyptian pieces and dates back to the Old Kingdom sometime
between 2500 2200 BCE.
The artifact is a sculpture of two people standing beside each other. It is monolithic and carved in high
relief so it is meant to be viewed from the front because the figures were carved attached to the
rectangular slab of stone behind them.
The figure on the left is a man. The organic forms of his musculature creates an implied line as light
hits the sculpture and creates contrast between his muscles. This is particularly evident on his chest
where the form of the pectorals and the indentations of abdominal muscles are defined. His only
garment resembles a kilt with a belt and a curved pleat over the left half of it. The figure beside him is
a woman because of her softer, more feminine hourglass figure. Though the man and her are
proportionally similar, she is only as tall as his shoulders. She wears a garment with an ankle length
skirt of a light fabric due to her knees and abdomen being defined with softer curved forms as opposed
to the male s more pronounced bone structure unclothed.
The woman and man are embracing each other creating unity in the composition of the sculpture. The
man s left arm is draped over the woman s back as his hand rests over her left breast while his right
arm is down parallel to his side and his hand is in a fist. The woman s

Summary Of Gerald Graff s Hidden Intellectualism
Although many people would agree that Intellectuals are those who stand out academically, Gerald
Graff would think otherwise. Hidden Intellectualism is an essay written by Gerald Graff, where he
shares his beliefs about how the educational system is failing to tap those who are doing academically
poor, yet resembles great potential of intellectualism when it comes to their passion or interest. Along
with this beliefs Patch Adams is a movie based on a real story, where Hunter Adams (Patch) who
admitted himself on a Psychiatric hospital after trying to commit suicide tries to redeem himself. After
spending a few months in the Psychiatric hospital. Hunter found himself being hopeless by pills and
his counselor. It wasn t until one night he helped his roommate to conquer his fear, by creating a
humor game so he can laugh about his own fears. After that night he realized that he felt extremely
happy helping his roommate that he developed a passion for it, decides to leave, and go into medical
school. However, being in a medical school required a lot of focused, attention, and memorization,
something that Patch didn t do. For Patch being a doctor required more than just learning and
following rules of a book. His belief was to treat patients in a humanistic way not, comply by the rules
of a book.
Gerald Graff s argues that thinking outside the box can also be the new intellectual, which is supported
by the movie Patch Adams by questioning whether the educational system is in a

Science fiction is broadly defined as a film about the future or alternate realities, often but not always
set in space, and frequently incorporating horror elements, science fiction movies are wildly popular
among fans (Goodykoontz, 2014). As a subgenre of fantasy, science fiction enables viewers to relate
to themes from an idealized alternative version of reality (Edwards, 2014). Star Wars: Episode IV A
New Hope is a feature length film that fits this genre perfectly. Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope
unfolds as princess named Leia is held hostage by the evil Imperial forces in their effort to quell the
rebellion against the Galactic Empire. Luke Skywalker and a smuggler named Han Solo team together
with the lovable droid duo, R2 D2 and C 3PO, to rescue the beautiful princess and restore justice in
the galaxy.

elements employed in the film as they apply to the overarching narrative and theme of the film. These
elements include: science fiction films can often be seen as allegories for things that society may not

Essay On Theodore Roosevelt s Impact On America
Out of all the men who have been President of the United States, there are some that just take the cake
of who were the most influential and important. Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, and Ronald
Reagan being the top three. These three have impacted America tremendously from WW2 and helping
the Cold war to ending The Great Depression. They were good leaders in a time of need which makes
them well known and unforgettable.
Theodore Roosevelt being the youngest president at age 42 was a great leader. He had many
accomplishments, even winning the Noble Peace Prize. The Russo Japanese War was going on from
1904 05, he won the Noble Peace Prize by being the meditator of the peace between the two countries.
TR was a progressive leader and a trustworthy president even nicknamed Trust Buster. His policies
regarding trust and labor reform were part of what he called the Square Deal. TR was a conservationist

Stanley Yelnats Mistake In Holes By Louis Sachar
When we think back on the mistakes we have made in life did any of them have a good outcome? For
young Stanley Yelnats in Holes by Louis Sachar, a mistake turned his life around. The mistake put him
in a bad place, but by the end of the story he had actually ended up with many good outcomes. Stanley
benefitted from many things from the mistake made by Hector Zeroni. Stanley made a friend,
received/ found a treasure, and also bettered himself as a person. Even though he got pulled into a
mess he did not let it destroy him as a person. He strived to better himself and those around him. In the
beginning of the story Stanley is a timid, bigger built, loving, and caring boy; but as the story
progresses he begins to change. Stanley s personality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not always about what is on the outside but what is on the inside. He has always been loving and
caring but through this rough time in his life it is shown a lot. He shows this side to his family and also
his new friends. After Stanley was done taking the blame for the spilt sunflower seeds and zero
digging Stanley s hole for him, Stanley showed Zero he cared for him; he agreed to teach him to read.
I ll try to teach you to read if you want, Stanley offered. I don t know how to teach, but I m not worn
out today, since you dug a lot of my hole. (Sachar, 96.) Stanley was grateful for what Zero had done
for him and wanted to repay the favor and help him out as well. When Stanley left for camp his mom
gave him pen and paper so he could write her and tell her how it was going. By writing to his mom
and telling her that he was okay, even though he lied about what he was doing he showed he cared for
his parents. Dear Mom and Dad, Camp is hard, but challenging. We ve been running obstacle courses,
and have to swim long distances on the lake. Tomorrow we learn (Sachar, 81.) As the story comes to
an end Stanley really cares about Zero and refuses to leave camp without him. He gets his lawyer to
ask for files and after the Attorney General could not find his files they took Zero home with them. C
mon Stanley, said his lawyer. Your parents are waiting. Stanley stayed where he was.

Digestion Lab Report
Science Script
Introduction;
Everyday, we eat and drink, often taking it for granted. Most people disregard what happens within
our body during digestion process, So, what really happens in our body when we digest?
Scene 1; Mouth
Digestion first begins in the mouth, using mechanical digestion. Incisors first bite into the food
breaking the polymers into smaller monomers. As the food goes further into your mouth the food is
then ground by your molars. This breaks down the food into smaller particles, which is then mixed by
the tongue along with saliva. Saliva is secreted by the salivary glands into the mouth, and this saliva
contains enzymes to help break down the food. Complex carbohydrates, such as starch or glycogen,
will be broken down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the bolus enters the stomach, the lower oesophageal sphincter contracts to prevent acid reflux.
Folds in the stomach allow for the stomach to expand as the stomach fills. The stomach excretes
hydrochloric acid and other enzymes which allow for the break down of the bolus, as well as mucus to
help protect the lining of the stomach walls against the stomach acid. Protein digestion begins in the
stomach, where stomach acid of pH of 1 disrupts protein structure which allows for proteolytic
enzymes, also known as proteases, to reduce large proteins to polypeptides (Human Anatomy).
Stomach acid has numerous jobs in the breaking down of the bolus such as; rendering minerals more
soluble, maintains acidity, killing microbes and converts inactive digestive enzymes to their active
form. The muscle contractions in the stomach causes the bolus to turn into chyme, a food mixture with
a watery like texture. The chyme now enters the small intestine through the pyloric sphincter at the
base of the stomach, which regulates the rate at which chyme is released into the small

Panda Research Paper
The ancestors of Ailuropoda melanoleuca, which are also known as giant pandas, evolved about 40
million years ago. The pandas are native to Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu areas in China with their
largest population in the Minshan, Qinling, and Qionglai mountain ranges. However, their smallest
populations are in the mountain ranges of Lianshan, Daxiangling, and Xiaoxiangling. In 1974 1977,
the estimated population was 2, 459 and had then experienced a major decrease, but is now increasing
and is currently at 1, 864. Ailuropoda melanoleuca have stocky bodies with a round head, that contains
a large muscular jaw, and a short tail. The body is a white color, although, the limbs, ears, shoulders,
and eyes are a black color. In some areas, the black color has a chestnut red colored tinge to it. On the
panda s palms, there is an extra pseudo thumb, which is also known as the panda s thumb . The name
masks what it really is because the extra thumb is a pad of skin that protects a wrist bone. The height
of one panda ranges from a little less than five feet to almost six feet while their weight can range
between 176 to 275 pounds. Everyone knows that giant pandas eat bamboo, which is a woody grass
plant making them herbivores, but giant pandas are actually omnivores. Their diet is 99% bamboo but

to eat the strong bamboo that is in their diet. They have also inherited strong digestive systems
because as stated before, bamboo is a poor food source and is a tough plant so it doesn t go down as

Affirmative Action Should Not Be A Program
Combat racism, with more racism. That is a strategy that seems so backward in thought that it should
not be a program in modern American government and yet is still very active today. Affirmative action
is defined as the practice of improving the educational and job opportunities of members of groups
that have not been treated fairly in the past because of their race, sex, etc (Merriam Webster).
Affirmative action creates a blatantly unfair advantage in college and job applications to non minority
races and is ultimately a racist law. Affirmative action is most prominent in the College admission
process, where its racial prioritizing is the most blatant. In 2005, it was found that the acceptance rates
for African Americans at MIT were 98.7% higher than the acceptance rates for Whites or Asians
(College Admission Officers). Affirmative Action was passed in 1961 by John Fitzgerald Kennedy to
combat racial tensions in college admissions and the workforce. It gave an opportunity to minorities
that may have been previously set back from racist laws and rules to have a chance at changing their
lives for the better. This artificial raising of minority opportunities has lasted for more than two
generations and has long outlived its purpose. Affirmative Action in its modern day use is racist at the
expense of the non minority race(s), and was meant for minority advancement in a world where it was
almost impossible. Today, all races are equal in the eyes of all the

Agatha Christie Rationale
LING292 Assignment 3: Part 3 Rationale
The intended audience for my publication are fans of Agatha Christie, old and new as stated in the
subtitle of the publication. There are some posts that are aimed more towards newer fans, such as
Poirot Reading Order for fans who want to know where to start reading her Poirot stories, or to make
sure they don t read a book that spoils another book they have not yet read.
I chose an article on Agatha Christie herself, The Secrets of Agatha Christie by John Curran, as I
imagine readers would be interested in her and why she was successful. The movie review on Murder
on the Orient Express by Leigh Paatsch was a relevant choice as the film has released in theatres
recently so I looked for a mostly positive review for the publication. And I chose the novel recipe by
Kate Young as a fun and interesting post, perhaps for the bigger Christie fans who knew every detail
of her books, or just for fans who wanted to try a bit of cooking.
I edited the directions of the recipe so that it was easier to understand and follow since I imagined the
audience were probably not dedicated chefs. I divided them into much smaller steps and categorised
the steps for legibility and ease of reading on the screen. For example, Making the Ice Cream became
its own heading. Because this is a publication on the internet, I also envisaged a more international
audience and I edited the material to suit this purpose. Cling film is used in the UK, so I

played a big role in shaping the new generation. Machines and inventions fabricated more free time,

war had started, or about other big news, like the Stock Market Crash. The radio was also a very
important form of communication in war. World War II was the first war that was a technology based
war. The war had soldiers and commanders communicating and forming a strategy on the radio. The
radio also sent propaganda to increase production for the war. The radio also had a huge impact on the
1920s because it spread religion, culture, and society news. The radio was the reason that the flapper
lifestyle became popular, because it was broadcasted frequently on the radio. It also let people know
about the Harlem Renaissance, a Black gathering of music and art, the Red Scare, where America tried
to exterminate communism , and new laws such as Prohibition. A hugely important example of the
radio was the Scopes Trial. This was a major debate between Scopes and the State, where Scopes
broke the law by teaching evolution. Many expressed that the law banning the teaching of evolution

Car After Car Research Paper
The Beginning When I was sixteen years I did not expect a car from my parents. Both my parents
never got a car from their parents. I expected to have me drive the minivan until Mom didn t want it
anymore and it d become mine. And it was mine, for a while. I hated every minute of it. I worked two
jobs during that year of high school to get my own car; one as a lifeguard and the other with a
landscaping company. I saved my money until had a couple thousand dollars in my bank account. I
started looking online for a set of wheels that didn t have giant sliding doors on the side. I found a
number of potential vehicles, a silver 2003 Jaguar with no reverse, a 2001 black Jeep Cherokee with
no backseat, a 2000 blue Taurus with 200,000 miles on it, all potential winners. Anything to get me
out of the mom van. I showed my parents car after car after car. I think they started to relive that what

At Sea
At Sea Simon Armitage
The Title to this poem At Sea is a neutral title and doesn t give away a lot of the meaning to the poem.
It doesn t necessarily commit to anything specific; it s just a statement. This is just like the poem.
Armitage hasn t completely stated what the poem is about, there is nothing to say that it is definitely
describing someone/something At Sea . However, there are small links that suggest the Sea is being
used metaphorically. I think that the summary of this poem is the story of a family. It is not through
weeping, but all evening the pale blue eye on your most photogenic side has kept it s own

Amadeus By Peter Shaffer
Amadeus Influential Values
Peter Shaffer s Amadeus presents to the reader many human values. The most prominent being envy,
deceit and self sacrifice. During the course of the play these features are displayed through Salieri s
actions, emotions and dialogue.
The relationship between Salieri and Mozart is like a painting, commencing with splattered envy after
Mozart s extordinary musical talents disrupt Salieri s clean, white, sanity. Splatters become blotches
when Mozart uses Salieri s prize pupil (33), Katherina Cavalieri, to fulfill his professional and sexual
aspirations. Covered in thick, black envy, Salieri seeks lust to better himself than his opponent: As I
watched her walk away on the arm of the creature, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Salieri trying to interfere with Mozart s opera, The Marriage of Figaro displays his second step of
deceit. Upon hearing that Mozart s new opera contained ballet, which is verboten in the Emperor s
operas, he wickedly conveys this information to his colleagues and attempts to destroy his opera.
Although Mozart is distressed when approached by this fact, he still manages to work through his
deceit and is able to achieve the emperor s consent of the dance after being harassed and mentally
walloped on from Salieri and his colleagues. Mozart accuses Salieri at the beginning of this uproar but
is then altered after hearing this following quote from Salieri displaying his feign concern for the
stressed fellow: Mozart, permit me. If you wish, I will speak to the Emperor myself. Ask him to attend
a rehearsal (70).
Salieri s third step of deceit is illustrated by having the Baron attend a small opera hosted by Mozart
that mocks modern day opera themes. This of course enrages the Baron and causes Mozart to be
shunned by all men of influence and leads him deeper into depression. Salieri had of course suggested
it (92), for the Baron to come but keeps his amity with Mozart by expressing that all is not lost (93).
The final step of deceit is exhibited by way of Salieri appearing to the demented creature as the
Messenger of God! (94) And scaring him to death by forcing him to write his own requiem. With
Mozart at his weakest state,

Processing and Manufacturing of Cheese
Cheese has been used for centuries in an effort to preserve the nutrition available in milk. Today, more
than fourteen hundred types of cheese exist, each with a distinct taste. (Thompson, 2007)The
manufacturing of cheese is through several processes that are, pasteurization, adding additives, milk
ripening and coagulation, curd treatment and finally cheese ripening. (Goff, 1995)
PH monitoring, along with the casein to moisture ratio, is the most important step that determines
cheese texture. Certain cheese varieties, such as Swiss, Gouda and Cheshire cheese exhibit a narrower
range of pH as compared to Cheddar cheese. Starter cultures are used to achieve the desired pH
needed for fermentation. In order to reach the optimum pH, the temperature, content of lactose and the
products produced during fermentation are closely monitored. This stage of the cheese making process
is called ripening. (Ardo Waagner, 2011). The minimum pH used for the production of different types
of cheese is given in the graph below. (Ardo Waagner, 2011)
Camembert, Feta and Danablu are low pH cheese varities, where as, Cheddar cheese utilizes a
medium minimum pH. High pH cheese varieties include Mozzarella, Tilsiter, Havarti, Gouda, Danbo
and the Emmental groups. (Ardo Waagner, 2011) Starter cultures are microorganisms that are used in
the production of cultured milk products. Lactic acid bacteria, LAB, are the most frequently used
microorganisms in the production of cheese. They help lower the

What Were The Weaknesses Of The Nazi Party
The Nazi party went from being an unpopular political group in 1919 to being the most powerful
political party in Germany by 1932. The reason for this are the weaknesses in the Weimar constitution,
the 1918 Armistice, the 1923 crisis, the Treaty of Versailles and The Great Depression. Hitler s
personality was also very important to the Nazi s success. He was very arrogant since his early days
and he never took a no for an answer. He also was the type of the person who never gave up even and
even if it did not work out he blamed others. All these reasons helped the Nazis rasie to power.
There was also the Armistice in 1918. This was signed along the Treaty of Versailles when the
Ludendorff told the new government that the war was hopeless and requested immediate ceasefire.

This helped the Nazi party because the Germans were furious about this. Germany has always had a
very strong army and the Germans were very proud of it. Germany lost 13% of their European
territory and one tenth of Germany s people. Apart from that she also lost all of her colonies. This
helped Hitler and the Nazis because all this made the German people angry and Germans wanted to be
in Germany, not some other country. This also shows how Hitler used the German s self determination
and their nationalistic feelings for the growth of his party. The people of Germany were also angry at
the government for signing the Treaty of Versaille and they were looking for a more extremist party
which was like the old kaiser government they all trusted. Anton Drexler and Hitler had made the
twenty five which boosted their support. The twenty five points made it clear that if the Nazi party

The Tragic Hero And Butterworth s Johnny Byron
Jez Butterworth undeniably flaunts the conventions of comedy in Jerusalem to create a profound but
amusing philosophical satire, observing and mocking modern society. Morally objectionable ideals
present in everyday life are examined and ridiculed, inevitably leading to the development of morally
objectionable characters and social groups. As a result, Johnny Byron doesn t neatly fit the definitions
of either a tragic hero or a comedic protagonist but instead has traits of the two. He is both an
outrageously hedonistic Falstaffian character whist arousing pity and fear, able to question the
motivation of other characters whilst himself being hubristic and unable to admit error. Despite his
comedic attributes, Byron s character undoubtedly lends itself more to the tragic arc as the audience
witnesses his bloody downfall from relative grace, evoking both pity and disgust.
The most obvious parallel between the Aristotelian tragic hero and Butterworth s Johnny Byron is the
uncovering of his tragic flaw. Throughout the drama Byron demonstrates an inability to move on or
mature, symbolised by his fairly permanent caravan along with the many relics of a time gone by
scattered about his clearing. It s possible that Butterworth intended this to be a metaphor for England
and traditional views of Englishness (most obviously symbolised by a sign reading Waterloo on the
side of the caravan), and that through this satire he is lamenting man s fate as Englishness is lost

Short Story The Lamp At Noon And The Painted Door
In the short stories The Lamp At Noon and The Painted Door by Sinclair Ross, the use of setting is a
tool to help emphasize the relationships of both marriages in each story as well as helping support the
motifs of loneliness and isolation. However, this use of setting is much more effective in The Lamp At
Noon as opposed to The Painted Door.
In The Painted Door, the setting is a small farm which supports a man named John and his wife, Ann.
The farm on which they live is rather desolate as they are not in a very close proximity to any of their
neighbours and are often secluded to their house during the winter seasons with their only interactions
being a game of cards with their neighbour, Steven. This scenario in which these two live can be
reflected by the environment around them. The story takes place in the midst of a tremendous blizzard,
the blizzard is so powerful that Ann can t walk outside without being pushed over by the wind. This
snow covered abyss exemplifies how alone the couple is. The darkness and literal isolation from the
rest of the world are clear indicators of this. The dark and cold also represents how Ann views her
relationship with John. She yearns for his affection and his attention, but despite these needs all John
ever does is work. He works himself to the bone so that Ann can be comfortable with her place in life
failing to realize that all she s ever wanted was affection and company, which she eventually finds in
Steven. The Lamp At Noon also makes good use of its setting to help develop the themes as well as
the marriage of this story s couple, Paul and Ellen. The setting of this story is a dried up farm where
no crops grow. The whole farm is shrouded in a cloud of dust and wind. The dust fills the air of Paul
and Ellen s house completely smothering everything with dust. Ellen, coming from a richer household,
urges Paul to leave believing that they have no future here and that the crops will never grow again.
Ellen left a life of comfort and luxury for a dusty, decrepit farm, resulting in feelings of isolation,
anger and hopelessness. However, Paul is determined to stay and live off the land, he has faith that the
crops will grow and their farm will be prosperous once more. This is

The Negative Effects Of Family And Family Homelessness
Family and child homelessness has been a major social problem within the United states since the
1980s (Bassuk). According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, it is a
problem that affected 79,446 family households in January 2010, and over 1.5 million children
between the years of 2005 and 2006. Family and child homelessness is a genuine issue that although
has increased to 37% of the overall homeless, and is said to have reached an historic high (Bassuk), it
has not been discussed or addressed. Homelessness affects every one in 30 children in the U.S, which
is a major increase in recent years. 2.4 million children were affected by homelessness in 2013, which

In fact, Ashley De Marcus of the Tennessee Research and Creative Exchange stated that homeless
students opposed to students who are not homeless are twice as likely to repeat a grade. Homeless
high school students also show a similar trend of lowered skills in math and reading. According to
Carolyn Shields and Erica Mohan, only 11.4% proficient in math and 14.6% of homeless high school
students are proficient in reading. This is a 20.8% and 16.3% difference in students who have homes
who are 32.2% proficient in math and 30.9% proficient in reading. As you can see, the skills level of
math and reading for homeless students continues to get worse. Stronger even confirmed this in his
1992 study of homeless students. Stronger found that homeless students were scoring a year under
their grade level and the deficit had increase up to three years as they got older. As we can see, this is
still a true statement as the skill levels from elementary and high school has decreased significantly.
The problem of mental disorders is a major one among homeless families. However, the mental health
of homeless children has been less systematically researched, and almost all the available data is based
on research studies of children in homeless shelters in the USA (Bushra 1996). Various terms, such as
behavioral problems/difficulties, psychosocial maladjustment or mental health disorders, are often
used to describe the degree

HIV Treatment Adherence Essay
Treatment adherence is critical for HIV positive individuals, but many find it challenging to maintain.
Sarita D. Boyd (2011) conducted a review of currently recommended treatment guidelines for patients
managing HIV infection, including adherence obstacles and benefits.
According to Boyd, HIV treatment should consist of antiretroviral therapy and routine health
monitoring, but many patients often defer treatment and fail to report for monitoring appointments.
Reasons for this failure to adhere to the treatment plan vary depending on the individual patient, and
the situation may be further complicated by differing medical opinions and lack of resources and
opportunity for the patient.
Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is the current standard for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cost of these drugs is a major obstacle to treatment adherence because they are expensive,
averaging $22,000.00 to $32,000.00 annually for consistent treatment (Boyd, 2011). Several
government programs cover initial HIV screening costs but not life time care, so many patients only
take their medicines as their finances allow
(Boyd, 2011). This nonadherence leads to the development of drug resistance which increases
transmission potential and decreases treatment options (Boyd, 2011). Efavirenz is a fixed dose
ART combining tenofovir and emtricitabine (Boyd, 2011). It offers once daily dosing and is currently
the simplest and least expensive protocol available. Due to deferred treatment options, less pills, once
daily dosing, fewer side effects and improved drug potency, HIV patients are reporting increased
treatment adherence and better treatment success (Boyd, 2011). More efforts must be made to insure
treatment adherence throughout the entire life of the patient.
Another hindrance to early diagnosis and program adherence lies in the communication skills and
comfort levels of patient and physician. The article HIV prevention efforts mired in patient denial,
physician discomfort (2011) examines the attitudes of both patients

Analysis Of The Movie Casablanca
Intro
Casablanca, first released on January 23rd, 1943 is undoubtedly one of the masterpieces of Classical
Hollywood film. Written and released in the midst of World War Two it explores themes such as love,
desire and especially sacrifice. Although the love story of the protagonists is the cause and catalyst for
most of the narrative, one would not necessarily associate it with the conventional Classical
Hollywood love story. Rather as a fabula based on the principle of the importance of sacrifice in order
to overcome a common enemy, in this case the Nazis. Casablanca does indeed contain many of the
common characteristics identified with the Classical Hollywood film. An example being the the way
director, Michael Curtiz used a mainly chronologically ordered narrative structure and the utilisation
of a Cause and Effect chain. In this essay I will looking at the various ways I believe this film does fall
into the criteria of a Classical Hollywood narrative and also how some could perceive that it does not.
From the opening sequence one can establish that Casablanca obeys the elementary principles used in
the Classical Hollywood narrative structure. In the initial minutes of the film the audience is
introduced via a voice over of the various political happenings prior to the films start such as Hitler s
occupation of Europe and the surge of refugees who fled the Nazi s to Casablanca. The use of
narration presents the audience with a simple introduction which the rest of

The Character Analysis Of The Film Smoke Signals
It s a good day to be indigenous! (00:04:55 00:04:56) says Randy Peone, the voice of the KREZ radio,
setting the mood for the whole film, Smoke Signals. Smoke Signals is about Native Americans,
specifically Thomas Builds The Fire, played by Evan Adams, and Victor Joseph, played by Adam
Beach, that live on the Coeur d Alene Indian Reservation. The story follows these two proud to be
Indian boys all the way through their adulthood. The audience gets to see their relationship develop
from distant friends to a brother like bond. This film is a Native American masterpiece; however, I
believe that the true magic lies in the work of Evan Adams. As soon as Thomas enters on screen, the
audience falls in love. He wears two side braids, nice suits, and a huge smile plastered across his face.
At the beginning of the film, he is a happy and curious kid that is everything but refreshing to his
friend Victor. They both have known each other their entire lives. One thing that is truly captivating
about Evan s performance is his ability to truly encapsulate his character. While watching the film, one
can really see the emotion and feeling in his eyes and in his voice. In part in particular, he says, So

Running a business is about more than just making money. It requires adequate consideration to a
number of issues, of which ethics is most certainly one. As a business grows and becomes more
significant, it impacts the lives of people in so many ways. But without a clear understanding of
business ethics, a company can lose its business by ruining its reputation and alienating employees,
suppliers and the local community around it. With recent expansions in global businesses and the
decrease of trade barriers worldwide, the importance of ethics in business has been further underlined.

Early Doctors, Surgeons, and Apothecaries Essay
In the 18th century, the medical field was made up of mostly men. There were three jobs in this field:
Physicians, Surgeons, and Apothecaries. Physicians were the most elite of the three. Physicians in the
18th century had no knowledge of anything. Nobody knew that disease was spread by bacteria, germs,
and viruses. Because they didn t know this, nobody practiced sterilization or hygiene, hospital and
personal.
In the 18th century, scientists were strongly influenced by theories. In 350 B.C., Aristotle believed that
everything was made from fire, earth, air and water. There later was a Greek physician named Galen.

tried to balance the four humors. The most common diseases among soldiers were dysentery, fever,

The most deadly disease during the 18th century was smallpox. It spread very fast, killing a lot of

During this part of smallpox, the person who had it became very contagious. Later, the fever dropped

Product The good or service a supplier provides for a consumer.

Place relates to Major League Soccer in terms of location of each teams stadium. This is key in all
sports, teams must locate themselves in places where they will be able to attract fans to attend their
matches at high rates. Teams like Atlanta United F.C. and the Seattle Sounders have placed themselves
in prime locations to succeed. They both have done a great job with perfecting where they play to help
increase attendance to their games. While the MLS average attendance per match is a mere 21,823,
Seattle have averaged 42,892 and Atlanta have averaged 46,721 per match. These two teams aren t
even in first place in their conference, but they were able to place themselves in locations that are
effective for them to record these much higher averages of attendance.

Promotion Promotion is going to be the most important aspect of our product since there is currently
not enough marketing of MLS. You can find an advertisement for the NFL on almost any channel but
you will rarely see a commercial or promotion for major league soccer.
Product The MLS has recently been lacking competition. There tends to be a handful of teams that
compete for the top spots and then the rest of the league, who battle for the bottom ranks. These top
teams garner the most attention and fan base while the other teams struggle to keep fans interested.

local middle school located in Coal City, West Virginia. This interview will familiarize you with a
School Counselor by the name of James Payne. You will gain a better understanding of his counseling
history, his theory on counseling in a school system, the beliefs he expressed regarding the counseling
profession and finally how he assists students on a daily basis.

Alcatraz Monologue
Nervous, yes so dreadfully nervous I have been sitting here buying my time to get out of this
corroding, treacherous, and monstrous hell of a cell that i have called home for too many a night. But
first let s start at the beginning shall I. After I killed that old man, I believe his name was Bob Gray
and he liked to dress like a clown, called himself pennywise, scary. Anyway I was shipped to Alcatraz
The Rock Island, home of Al Capone, Machine Gun Kelly, and The Birdman. The night was cold and
dreary and I, Frank Morris, had just been shipped to Alcatraz and tossed into my cold hard cell next to
a man named John Anglin and his brother Clarence Anglin. Here I could sense everything. I could
hear the slamming of the cell doors and the waves smashing against the rocky shores of this Hell on
Earth that is this island. I could smell the fumes of the chemicals that burns my nose as they clean this
wretched isles of Alcatraz. I tasted the dirt that curses the air with a brown tint and a foul, bitter and
malicious taste. I could see the dauntless guard who fear nothing and risk their lives against us cons
and murderers alike. What I felt was the worst of all. I felt the steel bars that had been chipped away at
by hopeful souls before being disposed of like the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They had Alan build a raft while clarence and john made fake heads for us and I stole hair to put on
them and then we all created large holes in our cells, big enough for us to get out of. Finally we broke
out and we ran on top of the cracked and eroded prison to get to the other side but Alan got stuck
because there was a pipe in the way blocking his hole and everyone else made it to the beach. So they
decided to leave Alan since nobody liked him. So the sent their raft into the 15 degree bay where they
were helped across the ocean to Brazil by Fred Brizzi a childhood friend of the Anglins. After we
made it to Brazil we parted ways and never saw each other

Jay Gatsby as Tragic Hero of Fitzgerald s The Great...
Jay Gatsby as Tragic Hero of Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby
According to Aristotle, there are a number of characteristics that identify a tragic hero: he must cause
his own downfall; his fate is not deserved, and his punishment exceeds the crime; he also must be of
noble stature and have greatness. These are all characteristics of Jay Gatsby, the main character of
Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby. Jay Gatsby is a tragic hero according to Aristotle s definition.
Jay Gatsby is an enormously rich man, and in the flashy years of the jazz age, wealth defined
importance. Gatsby has endless wealth, power and influence but never uses material objects selfishly.
Everything he owns exists only to attain his vision. Nick feels ... Show more content on

Later, the concept develops into an obsession with money and more so, Daisy.
Gatsby s tragic flaw lies within his inability to see that the real and the ideal cannot coexist. Gatsby s
ideal is Daisy. He sees her as perfect and worthy of all his affections and praise. In reality she is
undeserving and through her actions, proves she is pathetic rather than honorable. When Daisy says
Sophisticated God I m sophisticated (18), she contradicts who she really is. The reader sees irony here,
knowing she is far from sophisticated, but superficial, selfish and pathetic. Gatsby s vision is based on
his belief that the past can be repeated, can t repeat the past? Why of course you can (111)! The
disregard for reality is how Gatsby formulates his dream (with high expectations), and the belief that
sufficient wealth can allow one to control his or her own fate. Gatsby believes youth and beauty can
be recaptured if he can only make enough money. To become worthy of Daisy, Gatsby accumulates
his wealth, so he can rewrite the past and Daisy will be his. He establishes an immense fortune to
impress the great love of his life, Daisy, who can only be won with evidence of material success. Over
the five years in which Gatsby formulates this ideal, he envisions Daisy so perfect that he places her
on a pedestal. As he attempts to make his ideal a reality things do not run as smoothly as he plans.
Daisy can never live up to Gatsby s ideal, though

Gold King Mine Spill Case Study
Figure 1 does a good job of highlighting several stages of a well structured decision making process.
This environmental decision making process utilizes an iterative adaptive risk management approach.
This approach emphasized learning by doing and continued adaptation to improve outcomes. Major
components of this framework include defining the issue, establishing decision criteria, identifying
and incorporating relevant information, evaluating options, and monitoring/revisiting effectiveness.
By following the iterative approach presented by this process, well thought out and appropriate
decisions should be made. The steps in this framework will be adapted to analyze the response
presented by the EPA in regards to the Gold King Mine spill accident. In the next section, there will be
further elaboration of the case study and its related components to the decision making framework.
Case Study: The Gold King Mine Spill Gold King Mine Spill Background In order to answer the
research question of how do stakeholder responses to mining accidents impact water politics, this
paper will look at a case study involving the Gold King Mine spill. The case study of the Gold King ...

Social Security Goals
===The goals of the Social Security program is to bring monetary assistance to specific and certain
groups such as the elderly, disabled and widows. The goals of the social security program, as stated in
their government page are, to keep American families from becoming destitute in health or in the
essentials of life. We do not want a program which, alone, would enable anybody to live in luxury; but
we do want a program that will assure every family in the Nation enough to live on in times of
adversity. (ssa.gov) To learn about one of America s most successful program it is important as a
reader to know that this program has been around for 80 years, since August 14, 1935 when President
Franklin Roosevelt signed and made Social Security ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Organizations such as the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) have a very big influence
among the elderly and the policy making that takes place. The reason as to why this is a strength is
solely because when the AARP steps in for the elderly they are not only representing the elderly which
are their primary goal but the disable and widows, two other groups of people that highly benefit from
the social security program. As you where able to learn during the course, primarily in chapter 17
Social Policy, the AARP pays close attention, when congress considers changes in programs that
affect the elderly. (We The People) These organizations devote their time and strengths in order to
defend the Social Security Program; many times it was the AARP that stopped reforms from
happening and affecting the Social Security Program such as in times like 2005 and 2009 when the
AARP was either against or for health reforms being added into the Social Security Program. The
weaknesses of the Social Security program could primarily be that economically the Social Security
Program in several occasions was at risk of financially collapsing ( Peter Ferrara) If the Social
Security Program were ever to fail this would mean thousand of beneficiaries would run the risk of not
having any financial sustainability. In Peter Ferrera s article, The Future of Social Security as

Prejudice, comformity and stereotyping in American History X
Introduction To The Topic
American History X is a great film that portrays prejudice, stereotyping and conformity. Prejudice is
negative attitudes toward others based on their gender, religion, race, or membership in a particular
group. Prejudice involves beliefs and emotions that can turn into hatred. Having an opinion or idea
about a member of a group without really knowing that individual is a part of prejudice. Some people
make judgments about a whole group of people without knowing very much about them. Sometimes
people are afraid of those who seem different from them and unfortunately, they express that with
name calling and negative treatment. When people grow up with these ideas, sometimes it s hard to
get rid of them. Like in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Solution Of Water Pollution
Introduction
People usually don t check the water they drink before drinking it because they trust that just because
it is in the bottle, water fountain, refrigerator (etc.) that it is free of pollutants, but that is not always
the case. Water pollution in drinking water is very common and dangerous because the
bacteria/pollutants can cause health problems that lead to death. There are a variety of diseases and
bacterias that lead to the health problems. What is water pollution?
Water pollution is generally described as a contaminated body of water. Water pollution is caused by
pollutants like chemicals and compounds. The Georgia Holt Environmental
Science Textbook defines water pollution as the introduction of chemicals, physical, or biological
agents into water that degrades water quality and adversely affect the organisms that depend on water.
These waters can be lakes, swamps, oceans, gulfs, rivers, aquifer and etc. Almost all water pollution
comes from industrialization and rapid population growth. Water pollution affects every aspect of life
from humans, plants, and animals. Water makes up 70% of the earth so water pollution affects animal
life such as the animals that live in water are affected because they can become sick and die off and
can affect the rest of the food chain which can affect the humans that eat them. That contamination
now is spread to the human population which negatively affects our communities and

Kate Chopin The Storm
In order to dismantle the structure of a patriarchal society, Kate Chopin, the author of the short story,
The Storm, creates fictive work that examines sexual expression, gender normative roles, and societal
expectations through a metaphoric Louisiana storm. In the beginning of the story the reader is
introduced to father and son, Bobinôt and Bibi, who are sitting inside of a store waiting for the storm
to pass. Chopin starts off the story alluding to the storm that would soon come. The narrator says
...certain sombre clouds that were rolling with sinister intention from the west, accompanied by a
sullen, threatening roar. In order to illustrate this effectively she uses the literary technique,
anthropomorphism, to offer the clouds and the sky human elements that seek to create a sense of
connection with the readers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As part two of the story progresses (as well as the storm) the intensity of passion rises between them.
In the text as Calixta and Alcée grow closer to each other she wiped the frame that was clouded with
moisture. It was stiflingly hot. These two lines reference the intense passion growing between them.
As part two continues to reveal the burning passion of two old flames, Chopin incorporates the color
white throughout the text. She writes that the bed in Calixta s room is white, mentions her white neck,
her white throat and her whiter breast, makes a reference to how she was as white as the couch she lay
upon, describes her firm elastic flesh as creamy lily, and states that the generous abundance of her
passion is metaphorically like a white flame. The color white here is symbolic of the chaste (often
societal) standards of marriage expected to be upheld in Bobînot and Calixta s home. However, it also
emphasizes that the sexual tension increasing with the power of the storm

  • 2. Natural Resource Wealth In The United States Various quantitative studies have drawn a statistical link between the level of natural resource wealth and political regime type (Michael Ross, 2001, Paul Stevens, 2007). Looking at the bigger picture, the Middle East region has defied two global patterns: it has become wealthier without becoming democratic; and it has become wealthier without making much progress toward gender equality (Michael Ross, 2012). The Middle East is characterized by having less democracy and more oil for decades, than any otherworld region (Michael Ross, 2012). Yet, it is said that oil wealth usually indicates authoritarianism; associated with corruption, economic instability, and conflict and the United Arab Emirates may not be an exception to this. The United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This unitary Islamic absolute monarchy possesses 18 per cent of the world s proven petroleum reserves and ranks as the largest exporter of petroleum (OPEC, 2015), also is a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. The oil production is responsible for about 50% of the Gross Domestic Product, and about 85% of export earnings (OPEC). Although it is the world s greatest exporter, its GDP per capita is only $24,454. Saudi Arabia ranks weakly on the Human Development Index as number 59 of the 182 states in the world, and it is only number 8 between the other MENA countries. Although Saudi Arabia s elite is very wealthy and large, a great portion of the population barely receives profits from the state s wealth. It is ranked as not free relating to civil liberties and also ranked as suffering hard from corruption. Also, the political parties in Saudi Arabia are banned, and political organizations that oppose may only exist outside the country (Freedom House, 2015). Even before the discovery of oil, the family that was in power depended on the merchants of Jeddah, a Saudi Arabian city, to collect their taxes. When oil was discovered in Saudi Arabia, that is when the country started to develop, just like the United Arab Emirates. • 3. Professionalism In The Workplace Introduction Professionalism is a term that has existed for a long time. Its definition varies from one individual or era to the other. For some, being professional is seen as dressing elegantly at work, or doing an excellent job. For others, however, being professional is translated as having higher degrees or other certifications. Nonetheless, professionalism comprises all of these definitions, although it also constitutes much more. It is the level of aptitude or excellence, as well as the aim, conduct or qualities that professionals have. A profession is a compensated occupation that necessitates one to have formal credentials and training as well as a certain range of skills. • 4. Art Historians And Enthusiasts Alike Egyptian artifacts captivate the attention of art historians and enthusiasts alike. The unknown artifact shown in Fig. 1. is one of these Egyptian pieces and dates back to the Old Kingdom sometime between 2500 2200 BCE. The artifact is a sculpture of two people standing beside each other. It is monolithic and carved in high relief so it is meant to be viewed from the front because the figures were carved attached to the rectangular slab of stone behind them. The figure on the left is a man. The organic forms of his musculature creates an implied line as light hits the sculpture and creates contrast between his muscles. This is particularly evident on his chest where the form of the pectorals and the indentations of abdominal muscles are defined. His only garment resembles a kilt with a belt and a curved pleat over the left half of it. The figure beside him is a woman because of her softer, more feminine hourglass figure. Though the man and her are proportionally similar, she is only as tall as his shoulders. She wears a garment with an ankle length skirt of a light fabric due to her knees and abdomen being defined with softer curved forms as opposed to the male s more pronounced bone structure unclothed. The woman and man are embracing each other creating unity in the composition of the sculpture. The man s left arm is draped over the woman s back as his hand rests over her left breast while his right arm is down parallel to his side and his hand is in a fist. The woman s ... Hidden Intellectualism is an essay written by Gerald Graff, where he shares his beliefs about how the educational system is failing to tap those who are doing academically poor, yet resembles great potential of intellectualism when it comes to their passion or interest. After spending a few months in the Psychiatric hospital. Hunter found himself being hopeless by pills and his counselor. It wasn t until one night he helped his roommate to conquer his fear, by creating a humor game so he can laugh about his own fears. After that night he realized that he felt extremely happy helping his roommate that he developed a passion for it, decides to leave, and go into medical school. However, being in a medical school required a lot of focused, attention, and memorization, something that Patch didn t do. For Patch being a doctor required more than just learning and following rules of a book. His belief was to treat patients in a humanistic way not, comply by the rules of a book. Gerald Graff s argues that thinking outside the box can also be the new intellectual, which is supported by the movie Patch Adams by questioning whether the educational system is in a ... Most people disregard what happens within our body during digestion process, So, what really happens in our body when we digest? Scene 1; Mouth Digestion first begins in the mouth, using mechanical digestion. Incisors first bite into the food breaking the polymers into smaller monomers. As the food goes further into your mouth the food is then ground by your molars. This breaks down the food into smaller particles, which is then mixed by the tongue along with saliva. Saliva is secreted by the salivary glands into the mouth, and this saliva contains enzymes to help break down the food. Complex carbohydrates, such as starch or glycogen, will be broken down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the bolus enters the stomach, the lower oesophageal sphincter contracts to prevent acid reflux. Folds in the stomach allow for the stomach to expand as the stomach fills. The stomach excretes hydrochloric acid and other enzymes which allow for the break down of the bolus, as well as mucus to help protect the lining of the stomach walls against the stomach acid. Protein digestion begins in the stomach, where stomach acid of pH of 1 disrupts protein structure which allows for proteolytic enzymes, also known as proteases, to reduce large proteins to polypeptides (Human Anatomy). Stomach acid has numerous jobs in the breaking down of the bolus such as; rendering minerals more soluble, maintains acidity, killing microbes and converts inactive digestive enzymes to their active form. The muscle contractions in the stomach causes the bolus to turn into chyme, a food mixture with a watery like texture. • 13. Affirmative Action Should Not Be A Program Combat racism, with more racism. That is a strategy that seems so backward in thought that it should not be a program in modern American government and yet is still very active today. Affirmative action is defined as the practice of improving the educational and job opportunities of members of groups that have not been treated fairly in the past because of their race, sex, etc (Merriam Webster). Affirmative action creates a blatantly unfair advantage in college and job applications to non minority races and is ultimately a racist law. Affirmative action is most prominent in the College admission process, where its racial prioritizing is the most blatant. In 2005, it was found that the acceptance rates for African Americans at MIT were 98.7% higher than the acceptance rates for Whites or Asians (College Admission Officers). Affirmative Action was passed in 1961 by John Fitzgerald Kennedy to combat racial tensions in college admissions and the workforce. It gave an opportunity to minorities that may have been previously set back from racist laws and rules to have a chance at changing their lives for the better. This artificial raising of minority opportunities has lasted for more than two generations and has long outlived its purpose. Affirmative Action in its modern day use is racist at the expense of the non minority race(s), and was meant for minority advancement in a world where it was almost impossible. Agatha Christie Rationale LING292 Assignment 3: Part 3 Rationale The intended audience for my publication are fans of Agatha Christie, old and new as stated in the subtitle of the publication. There are some posts that are aimed more towards newer fans, such as Poirot Reading Order for fans who want to know where to start reading her Poirot stories, or to make sure they don t read a book that spoils another book they have not yet read. I chose an article on Agatha Christie herself, The Secrets of Agatha Christie by John Curran, as I imagine readers would be interested in her and why she was successful. The movie review on Murder on the Orient Express by Leigh Paatsch was a relevant choice as the film has released in theatres recently so I looked for a mostly positive review for the publication. And I chose the novel recipe by Kate Young as a fun and interesting post, perhaps for the bigger Christie fans who knew every detail of her books, or just for fans who wanted to try a bit of cooking. I edited the directions of the recipe so that it was easier to understand and follow since I imagined the audience were probably not dedicated chefs. I divided them into much smaller steps and categorised the steps for legibility and ease of reading on the screen. For example, Making the Ice Cream became its own heading. Because this is a publication on the internet, I also envisaged a more international audience and I edited the material to suit this purpose. Cling film is used in the UK, so I ... The 1920s were a time of social changes, cultural conflicts, and political change. New ways of life, including the flapper lifestyle, played a big role in shaping the new generation. Machines and inventions fabricated more free time, while simultaneously higher wages were a result of the expanding prosperity. However, this prosperity brought downsides and corruption. For example, alcohol was prohibited in the 1920s. Many who opposed this law went to speakeasies, illegal bars that sold alcohol. • 23. Amadeus By Peter Shaffer Amadeus Influential Values Peter Shaffer s Amadeus presents to the reader many human values. The most prominent being envy, deceit and self sacrifice. During the course of the play these features are displayed through Salieri s actions, emotions and dialogue. The relationship between Salieri and Mozart is like a painting, commencing with splattered envy after Mozart s extordinary musical talents disrupt Salieri s clean, white, sanity. Splatters become blotches when Mozart uses Salieri s prize pupil (33), Katherina Cavalieri, to fulfill his professional and sexual aspirations. Salieri trying to interfere with Mozart s opera, The Marriage of Figaro displays his second step of deceit. Upon hearing that Mozart s new opera contained ballet, which is verboten in the Emperor s operas, he wickedly conveys this information to his colleagues and attempts to destroy his opera. Although Mozart is distressed when approached by this fact, he still manages to work through his deceit and is able to achieve the emperor s consent of the dance after being harassed and mentally walloped on from Salieri and his colleagues. Mozart accuses Salieri at the beginning of this uproar but is then altered after hearing this following quote from Salieri displaying his feign concern for the stressed fellow: Mozart, permit me. If you wish, I will speak to the Emperor myself. Ask him to attend a rehearsal (70). Salieri s third step of deceit is illustrated by having the Baron attend a small opera hosted by Mozart that mocks modern day opera themes. This of course enrages the Baron and causes Mozart to be shunned by all men of influence and leads him deeper into depression. Salieri had of course suggested it (92), for the Baron to come but keeps his amity with Mozart by expressing that all is not lost (93). The final step of deceit is exhibited by way of Salieri appearing to the demented creature as the Messenger of God! (94) And scaring him to death by forcing him to write his own requiem. Today, more than fourteen hundred types of cheese exist, each with a distinct taste. (Thompson, 2007)The manufacturing of cheese is through several processes that are, pasteurization, adding additives, milk ripening and coagulation, curd treatment and finally cheese ripening. (Goff, 1995) PH monitoring, along with the casein to moisture ratio, is the most important step that determines cheese texture. Certain cheese varieties, such as Swiss, Gouda and Cheshire cheese exhibit a narrower range of pH as compared to Cheddar cheese. Starter cultures are used to achieve the desired pH needed for fermentation. In order to reach the optimum pH, the temperature, content of lactose and the products produced during fermentation are closely monitored. This stage of the cheese making process is called ripening. (Ardo Waagner, 2011). The minimum pH used for the production of different types of cheese is given in the graph below. (Ardo Waagner, 2011) Camembert, Feta and Danablu are low pH cheese varities, where as, Cheddar cheese utilizes a medium minimum pH. High pH cheese varieties include Mozzarella, Tilsiter, Havarti, Gouda, Danbo and the Emmental groups. • 30. The Tragic Hero And Butterworth s Johnny Byron Jez Butterworth undeniably flaunts the conventions of comedy in Jerusalem to create a profound but amusing philosophical satire, observing and mocking modern society. Morally objectionable ideals present in everyday life are examined and ridiculed, inevitably leading to the development of morally objectionable characters and social groups. As a result, Johnny Byron doesn t neatly fit the definitions of either a tragic hero or a comedic protagonist but instead has traits of the two. He is both an outrageously hedonistic Falstaffian character whist arousing pity and fear, able to question the motivation of other characters whilst himself being hubristic and unable to admit error. Despite his comedic attributes, Byron s character undoubtedly lends itself more to the tragic arc as the audience witnesses his bloody downfall from relative grace, evoking both pity and disgust. The most obvious parallel between the Aristotelian tragic hero and Butterworth s Johnny Byron is the uncovering of his tragic flaw. Throughout the drama Byron demonstrates an inability to move on or mature, symbolised by his fairly permanent caravan along with the many relics of a time gone by scattered about his clearing. It s possible that Butterworth intended this to be a metaphor for England and traditional views of Englishness (most obviously symbolised by a sign reading Waterloo on the side of the caravan), and that through this satire he is lamenting man s fate as Englishness is lost through ... • 32. Short Story The Lamp At Noon And The Painted Door In the short stories The Lamp At Noon and The Painted Door by Sinclair Ross, the use of setting is a tool to help emphasize the relationships of both marriages in each story as well as helping support the motifs of loneliness and isolation. However, this use of setting is much more effective in The Lamp At Noon as opposed to The Painted Door. In The Painted Door, the setting is a small farm which supports a man named John and his wife, Ann. The farm on which they live is rather desolate as they are not in a very close proximity to any of their neighbours and are often secluded to their house during the winter seasons with their only interactions being a game of cards with their neighbour, Steven. This scenario in which these two live can be reflected by the environment around them. The story takes place in the midst of a tremendous blizzard, the blizzard is so powerful that Ann can t walk outside without being pushed over by the wind. This snow covered abyss exemplifies how alone the couple is. The darkness and literal isolation from the rest of the world are clear indicators of this. The dark and cold also represents how Ann views her relationship with John. She yearns for his affection and his attention, but despite these needs all John ever does is work. He works himself to the bone so that Ann can be comfortable with her place in life failing to realize that all she s ever wanted was affection and company, which she eventually finds in Steven. The Lamp At Noon also makes good use of its setting to help develop the themes as well as the marriage of this story s couple, Paul and Ellen. The setting of this story is a dried up farm where no crops grow. The whole farm is shrouded in a cloud of dust and wind. The dust fills the air of Paul and Ellen s house completely smothering everything with dust. Ellen, coming from a richer household, urges Paul to leave believing that they have no future here and that the crops will never grow again. Boyd (2011) conducted a review of currently recommended treatment guidelines for patients managing HIV infection, including adherence obstacles and benefits. According to Boyd, HIV treatment should consist of antiretroviral therapy and routine health monitoring, but many patients often defer treatment and fail to report for monitoring appointments. The cost of these drugs is a major obstacle to treatment adherence because they are expensive, averaging $22,000.00 to $32,000.00 annually for consistent treatment (Boyd, 2011). Several government programs cover initial HIV screening costs but not life time care, so many patients only take their medicines as their finances allow (Boyd, 2011). This nonadherence leads to the development of drug resistance which increases transmission potential and decreases treatment options (Boyd, 2011). Efavirenz is a fixed dose ART combining tenofovir and emtricitabine (Boyd, 2011). It offers once daily dosing and is currently the simplest and least expensive protocol available. Due to deferred treatment options, less pills, once daily dosing, fewer side effects and improved drug potency, HIV patients are reporting increased treatment adherence and better treatment success (Boyd, 2011). More efforts must be made to insure treatment adherence throughout the entire life of the patient. Another hindrance to early diagnosis and program adherence lies in the communication skills and comfort levels of patient and physician. • 35. Analysis Of The Movie Casablanca Intro Casablanca, first released on January 23rd, 1943 is undoubtedly one of the masterpieces of Classical Hollywood film. Written and released in the midst of World War Two it explores themes such as love, desire and especially sacrifice. Although the love story of the protagonists is the cause and catalyst for most of the narrative, one would not necessarily associate it with the conventional Classical Hollywood love story. Rather as a fabula based on the principle of the importance of sacrifice in order to overcome a common enemy, in this case the Nazis. Casablanca does indeed contain many of the common characteristics identified with the Classical Hollywood film. An example being the the way director, Michael Curtiz used a mainly chronologically ordered narrative structure and the utilisation of a Cause and Effect chain. In this essay I will looking at the various ways I believe this film does fall into the criteria of a Classical Hollywood narrative and also how some could perceive that it does not. From the opening sequence one can establish that Casablanca obeys the elementary principles used in the Classical Hollywood narrative structure. In the initial minutes of the film the audience is introduced via a voice over of the various political happenings prior to the films start such as Hitler s occupation of Europe and the surge of refugees who fled the Nazi s to Casablanca. The use of narration presents the audience with a simple introduction which the rest of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Character Analysis Of The Film Smoke Signals It s a good day to be indigenous! (00:04:55 00:04:56) says Randy Peone, the voice of the KREZ radio, setting the mood for the whole film, Smoke Signals. Smoke Signals is about Native Americans, specifically Thomas Builds The Fire, played by Evan Adams, and Victor Joseph, played by Adam Beach, that live on the Coeur d Alene Indian Reservation. The story follows these two proud to be Indian boys all the way through their adulthood. The audience gets to see their relationship develop from distant friends to a brother like bond. This film is a Native American masterpiece; however, I believe that the true magic lies in the work of Evan Adams. As soon as Thomas enters on screen, the audience falls in love. He wears two side braids, nice suits, and a huge smile plastered across his face. At the beginning of the film, he is a happy and curious kid that is everything but refreshing to his friend Victor. They both have known each other their entire lives. One thing that is truly captivating about Evan s performance is his ability to truly encapsulate his character.
