The Value of Nature to Humans
The Value of Nature Humans project the value of nature because humans are the only beings that
are able to produce rational thoughts and are therefore, the only beings that value. Since humans are
the only beings that value, they are inherently the only things that determine the value of other
things. In addition to my main thesis, I will address where the valuein nature originates by
explaining the disjoint relationship between humans and non humans. Expanding on my thesis, I
will prove the projection view is correct by showing that all arguments for the recognition view
appeal to projection. Projection, meaning, humans project value on to nature rather than
recognition, meaning, humans recognize the intrinsic value of nature. The value of nature is a
contentious issue that not only concerns environmental ethicists, but also everyday people around
the world. As our world becomes more technologically dependent, it seems that we are becoming
less concerned with nature. In deciding the future of our planet, it is important that we explore the
value of nature and the consequence of destroying it. I will reference and utilize quotes by Holmes
Rolston III from his novel, A New Environmental Ethics, as I evaluate the Euthyphro Problem as it
applies to the value of nature. The recognition view of the value nature articulates that humans
recognize the intrinsic value of nature. Where does the basis for this argument originate? Rolston
defends the idea that if an organism performs

Reflection On Organizational Behavior
Organizational behavior is a very important topic that only a few students take advantage of.
There is nothing more powerful to have in the workforce than an understanding of the way the
people around you think and act. Having the ability to engage in the work that is being done with
coworkers and supervisors makes the work easier and more enjoyable. Workers can be most
productive when they have strong relationships to the people around them. This is why
management and organizational behavior is one of the most rewarding classes for an
undergraduate. Taking the StrengthsFinder test opened my eyes about my strengths as a leader. I
was shocked I got futuristic, however, I was not surprised to see strategic, empathy, relator, or
includer. I tend to like to live my life in the present; I try and savor and really live through the
moments happening in front of me. However, I do tend to dote on the futureand how terrified I am
of it. The assessment says futuristic leaders are inspired by the future, but it truly terrifies me. I
hope to look into this strength further in this course and discover how I can use the future to
propel me, and those around me, forward. The other strengths I received are very encouraging,
as all will likely give me an edge on any professional team. I have always had a very analytical
and strategic mind, and this strength will be an asset to any company when it comes to problem
solving or strengthening the company. In regards to forming professional relationships, I have
never really had an issue. I have always welcomed in new people and invited those I felt might
have been left out to be my friend too. Being a relator and an includer in a professional setting
will give me the opportunity to develop powerful and meaningful bonds with coworkers and
supervisors. Keeping these relationships will be easy for me as I am a keen observer of the
human condition and I know when others are feeling sad or down. I am always empathetic, and I
do my best to help whoever it may be back to their feet. In a professional setting, empathy can
help me see myself in a coworkers shoes and this could resolve disputes or even help them when
they are in times of need. All of my strengths deal with the central

Endorphins, encephalins and various neuropeptides have all been shown to be released on needle

Chiropractic treatment for rheumatoid arthritis may be in the form of mobility, supporting and
strengthening exercises, icing and heat therapy. The Chiropractic management will focus on easing
the stiffness in joints built up from immobility, deformity, atrophy or lack of movement in the area
from pain. Treatment also includes therapies targeted to relax tight muscles to maximize joint
function and mobility. The techniques applied be individualized to each patient according to their
circumstances and presentation of symptoms as not all types of treatment are appropriate for
everyone. The use of a Low Level Laser Therapy or cold laser has been shown to be effective in
controlling inflammation and improve healing.

Allegorical Metamorphosis
Allegorical Metamorphosis Metamorphosis is transformation of an insect from an immature
form to an adult form. Although this term is ordinarily used in Biology, Franz Kafka uses this
term to title his peculiar story. This is a story about a young man named Gregor Samsa, who is a
traveling salesman. He is a typical hardworking man trying to pay off debts. However, he wakes
up one morning as a human sized beetle. His parents see him as a beetle, they react negatively, but
his sister, Grete, is not so concerned. In months following, she helps him get through the change.
Without Gregor working, the family is financially suffering. Gregor dies from an apple thrown by
his father. Surprisingly, the families lives improve after Gregor s death.... Show more content on

Psychoanalysis was started and influenced by Sigmund Freud. The object of psychological literary
theory is to analyze the phycology of the author or the characters in the book. Applying
psychological analysis to the Metamorphosis will require a critique to identify vital Freudian
concepts such as; consciousness, unconsciousness, Oedipus complex and phallic symbol.
Sigmund Freud states, our mind has two parts: conscious and unconscious. According to Freud,
feelings, horrors, drives, conflicts and memories are part of the unconscious. A recent article
published in research journal of recent sciences also says The Metamorphosis is a symbolic
presentation of Gregor s unconscious world. (Barfi, 2013, p. 107). This is also supported in the
book. In the opening scene of the book Gregor enters unconscious world. At the start of the book
The Metamorphosis one morning, as Gregor Samsa was waking up from anxious dreams, he
discovered that in the bed he had been changed in to a monstrous verminous bug. (Kafka, 1999, p.
1). In this quote the author uses words like waking and dream. One may infer from these words;
Even though Gregor woke up, but in fact he transfers from conscious to unconscious world.
Oedipus complex is a psychoanalytic theory denotes the ideas that deals with a child s sexual
desire for the opposing sex parent. The Metamorphosis has many examples of Oedipus complex,

Panama into two sections and contributed little to the Panamanian economy. The reason for this
being is that those who lived within the Canal Zone, a five mile wide strip on either side of the
canal, belonging to the U.S. and were either U.S. citizens or were West Indians working for the
canal. Furthermore, the canal is 48 miles long and with a width of 10 miles, with the U.S.
government having permission to acquire more land, the people of Panama are losing a vast strip
of land which could be used for agriculture or other purposes.
John Latane wrote his article The Effects of the Panama Canal on Our Relations with Latin America
in 1914 and claims that since the Panama Canal, new policies are being formed, The building of
the canal has, in the first place, rendered inevitable the adoption of a policy of naval supremacy
in the Caribbean Sea, and, in the second place, it has led to the formulation of new political
policies to be applied in the zone of the Caribbean... He goes on to say how these policies have
given the U.S. control of canal routes, ability to acquire naval bases in the area, set up satellites,
and requires governments to be constitutional and have the consent of its citizens. The scope the
Panama Canal goes beyond just the simple control of a waterway. By having the canal, the U.S.
was inserting greater dominance in the Caribbean Sea and in Latin American countries. The
Monroe Document was designed by the U.S. to keep European powers from interfering with

The Various Theories of Criminology
Criminology is defined as an interdisciplinary profession built around the scientific study of crime
and criminal behavior including their forms, causes, legal aspects, and control. There are many
aspects in the field of criminology. These aspects include the areas of research involved, the
criminology schools of thought, theoretical developments and the people involved in creating and
developing the theories. What role do criminologists play in the field of criminology? The term
criminologist is used to describe any individual who is employed in the criminal justice field
regardless of formal training. (Schmalleger) These individuals study crime, criminals, and criminal
behavior. Those responsible for collecting and examining physical evidence of crime are referred to
as criminalists. Criminologists perform a variety of activities such as data gathering, data analysis,
theory construction, hypothesis testing, social policy creation, public advocacy and public service,
analysis of crime patterns and trends, education and training, and threat assessment and risk
analysis. Criminology is categorized into three schools of thought: Classical, Positivist, and
Chicago. These three schools fit into three different theoretical developments in criminology.
However, there are six categories that fit into the theoretical developments. The first development is
the Classical School which consists of classical and neoclassical criminology. The classical school

Essay Reefer Madness Summary
Reefer Madness
Eric Schlosser To start off, the main driven idea of this book is the black market, or what they
refer to as the underground and shadow economy . The underground has its choices and
consequences as well as any other type of economic system do. But, in this case the underground
can be a country s main economy for survival such as, In Bolivia the underground economy is
responsible for an estimated 65 percent of GDP. In Nigeria it accounts for perhaps 76 percent.
(7) This type of GDP from the underground is usually found in the developing worlds. That s not
to say that we don t have a dark side of our own in the mix. The US has been the largest competitor

...I met a commercial introduced himself as Dave ...quite proud of his work and regretted being
unable to discuss it with friends. (39) Whether it s a hobby or for a living, the underground still has
a staying with our mainstream economy because it s just as important. Without all those illegal
immigrants, especially Mexicans, who would have tended those acres of strawberries in California?
With the migration of the illegals California strawberry production...output more than tripled; prices
fell, and the Americans doubled their consumption of fresh strawberries. (81) Although, they have
taken the opportunity for someone else in America to get the job, but regular Americans get paid a
minimum wage nowadays. Back then, the farmers/company would pay whenever and whatever
they felt like paying their workers because they were mostly illegal.
It all started with a comic book. Reuben Sturman was the one who started the business of exploiting
women to give men pleasure. He began his quest at a large warehouse in Detroit, where his business
would bloom not only nationwide but internationally as well. This might be a dirty subject to get
into but, Pornography is just as important as Marijuana and Underground labor because it too
created much revue as $15,000 to $20,000 a week to dance at strip clubs, doing four twenty minute
shows each night. (181). It s staggering to see that a young businessman

Part Two consists of the regulatory and practice issues found in coaching and mentoring. A
thorough review of the influence of power, the development and learning networks, the use of
technology, and the organizational issues such as purpose and goal orientation in coaching and
mentoring are developed throughout this section. Part Three focuses on the practice of supervision
and standards while exploring some of the contemporary diversity issues facing coaching and
mentoring. Part Four brings together all the above topics and moves toward a theory of coaching
and mentoring. This section concludes with a review of the emerging concerns from coaching and
mentoring.
The authors point out that the history of mentoring is extensive and began with a more mature and
experienced person engaging in a relationship with a less experienced person. The central purpose
of both coaching and mentoring is to transfer specific knowledge and skills from one to the other
with the intent of fostering independence (Garvey, Stokes, Megginson, 2014). Garvey et al., (2014)
distinguish the difference between coaching and mentoring. According to the authors, coaching is
the act of facilitating and mentoring is the practice of giving advice and expert recommendations
(Garvey et al., 2014). The authors believe that coaches listen, ask questions, and enable mentees to
discover for themselves what is right for them, whereas mentors talk about their personal experience

Why Should We Adopt An English Name
At the start of class, the first item on the to do checklist of an instructor is to obtain an overall sum
of who is present and who isn t. A share of those names are Asian Americans who will have an
English name prearranged or will request a nickname that they favor, which will undoubtedly be an
English name in several circumstances. Once questioned as to why the individual has/prefers an
English name the answer is typically their authentic name is too challenging to pronounce.
However, many will offer to study the individual s real Asian name if they desire to use it, yet these
students still resist and wish to occupy an English name, even when the name is considerably
simplistic to recall nevertheless they refuse to adopt it! Consequently, this further proposes that
there are additional explanations beyond the pronunciation concerns. Pressure to conform and
assimilate to Western like standards is a common setback for the majority of Asian Americans to
date. English is deemed as the languageof corporate professionalism; countless Asian American
people assume that occupying an English name will permit them to be additionally prosperous in
today s economy. The United Statessociety is furthermore significantly considered to be admirable

What is Batik? Is that a specialty store that you go to for designer clothes? No! Its a beautiful
Indonesian artform used to put some bold and intricate designs in their cloth. The crafter puts a
resist of some nature, usually wax, upon the cloth in a design and then applying dye to the cloth.
Wherever there is no wax, the cloth will be dyed, but where the cloth is protected will remain the
original color. It is a fun and relaxing new craft that has other crafty applications. Honestly, the
approach that I am coming to favor is a bit different. My children are still young and enjoy
crayons, which means they enjoy BREAKING crayons! I had pure white delicious cloth and a
bunch of broken crayons. There was a small metal paint tray with little divits for the paint in my
crafting drawer. Perfect. I broke up each crayon into little pieces and filled several divits.
Warming the whole tray in a steamer basket double boiler on my stove. As soon as I achieved
liquid wax, dipping a paintbrush in and painting quickly I achieved a beautiful and colorful
desgin. They key was to do it in very short strokes so the wax would stay very HOT upon the
brush. I have tried adding pariffin to the crayon for a more diffused color and using just straight
clear paraffin resist and dying the cloth too. I plan on picking up some beeswax from a local
beekeeper and trying that for a resist. After the wax cooled, I placed the cloth between
newspaper (I keep a roll of newsprint paper purchased cheap from my local newspaper)and
cardboard and then used my iron to warm the wax, wicking it onto the newsprint. It took several
changes, but finally I had bold colors and beautiful designs and wax free cloth . Once the fabric
has the wax free, it can be used in a variety of ways. Custom quilting designs, clothing design,
framed for artwork, creating pillows or even fabric for slipcovers! This is a completly customized

The Politics Of The Media
News media Is the American news media being honest like it was to be back when our great
nation begin? Many American s don t believe the media today because of the views that the
media takes. The 2016 election year was one of the ugliest presidential elections in the history of
the United States between Donald J. Trump and Hillary Clinton. The news media play a big role
in the election as they bring the news to the public about Clinton and Trump. The media is has
changed the delivery form the traditional news delivery, to the now comical delivery in shows
like SNL. Because television stations tend to be either liberal or conservative and craft stories to
appeal subtle and unbiased political news coverage and commentary is increasingly difficult to
find. The media has always been under criticism of being biased because of conservatives and
liberals coming out and saying that the news is biased. Mostly, if they news is not pretrain in
their favor for one of the political parties, they tend to say that it is biased. The part that these
political parties are most concerned about is all the undecided voters out in the United States.
And each political party wants those votes because they tend to flip the election either way. So,
the news media has a huge influence in those undecided votes and if the media is not favoring
their party they tend to call the news biased. There are some very good points that come from each
side that need to be look at to determine if the news is

Hospital compare is a tool that is part of the CMS Hospital Quality Initiative and has information
about the quality of care that is provided to its consumers. There are more than 4,000 Medicare
hospitals throughout the country that use this tool. This initiative was developed to assure quality
health care for consumers through the use of public disclosure as well as accountability of
healthcare staff. It is intended to allow consumers to make better decisions about what hospital
they choose to receive health care based on the level of quality of care the hospital provides. With

2)Readmission, complications, and deaths
Timely and effective care measure data shows how fast and how often common conditions and care
such as heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, ED care, preventive care, children s
asthma care, stroke care, blood clots prevention and treatment, and pregnancy and delivery care are
being evaluated by hospitals and are being recommended for treatment. Each condition has its own
set of quality measures that every (Medicare) hospital should abide by.
Heart attack has 6 quality measures. The first one focuses on what the average in minutes is for a
patient to be transferred to another facility to be treated for a heart attack in the event the facility
does not have the proper resources to treat that patient. The time is measured from the moment the
patient arrived to the ED to when he/she was transferred out. The second quality measure focuses
on how quickly an EKG is ordered for a patient who is having a heart attack. In order to meet this
measure, an EKG should be ordered within 10 minutes of arrival. The third quality measure focuses

workplace. Another solution would be to give some of the costly oxygen in order to keep the
Sherpas safe (Mandelbaum 3). While the tourists bring luxury items to add to the Sherpas loads,
they are being deprived of basic human necessities. The final solution would be to increase the

would allow Sherpas to feel more comfortable instead of worried that should something happen,
they will have to pay out of pocket knowing that their respective companies will not cover the costs.
The problems that the Sherpa face is to deal with horrible and unsafe conditions, endure little to no

My Classroom Management Plan Essay
A well managed classroom requires organization and planning. There is nothing more frustrating
than a room where you can t find anything and are unsure of your boundaries. Classroom
management begins even before the students enter the classroom on the first day. In order to
establish the proper work environment students should have an assignment waiting on their desks
as soon as they enter the room. In my case this will be some sort of a tell me about yourself and
what you think about science activity. In addition teachers should greet their students at the door

I want my students to have a voice in the decisions made within our classroom. In fact, I think the
best way to get the year started is with a class discussion of what our rules and consequences will
be. I think that if students help set the rules and consequences of the classroom they will have a
feeling of ownership. This feeling of ownership will often lead to respect for the classroom rules.
Student ownership can also support other aspects of a well managed classroom. Assigning students
in classroom tasks such as feeding the animals, taking the attendance, putting together absentee
packets, etc. will keep students engaged and free up the teacher to handle other classroom
management issues. A well managed classroom requires mutual respect. The term respect has
already shown up various times in this piece; that is because it is the key element of classroom
management. A classroom founded on respect creates an open and safe environment where the
students can have free exchange of ideas with one another and the teacher. This aspect of
management requires constant and consistent enforcement and modeling. Defining what is
respectful from the beginning and giving a rationale for treating others with respect is a great way
to start. A well managed classroom requires effective modeling. The best way to promote desired
classroom behaviors and procedures is to model them yourselves. If teachers say one thing and do

Dna, Clues And The Cheetah s Speed And Hurdles
In DNA, Clues to the Cheetah s Speed and Hurdles, by Barbara S. Moffet is an article published
in the New York Times Science. This article fascinated me when I first read it because the topic
not only perfectly aligned with what we have covered in class so far, but the story is the epitome
of the power of genetics, genomic diversity, mutations, and natural selection playing in the
ecosystem. In the article, Moffet introduces a study done by scientists at the Theodosius
Dobzhansky Center for Genome Bioinformatics at St. Peterburg State University In Russia
collaborated with BGI Shenzhen in China and the Cheetah Conservation Fund. It was to analyze
the entire genome of the cheetah by using blood samples from a cheetah known as Chewbaaka and
six other cheetahs from Namibia and East Africa. Interestingly, the complete sequencing of the
genome of cheetahs uncovered many interesting facts about cheetahs, including their impoverished
genetic diversity, history of their population bottlenecks, and many mutations that led to their
unique physiology and characteristics as one of the fastest animals existing in the current ecosystem.
Genetic diversity in an animal is the total number of genetic characteristics in the genetic makeup of
a species, and it allows the population to adapt to the changing environment. Therefore, the more
variation an animal contains, the higher chance it has the alleles that enable them to cope more
successfully in the nature. However, through the genome

Min Wage Essay
Should Minimum wage be increased?
Introduction
For many decades now, there has been heated debates concerning minimum wages and increases in
those wages. Most people have a tendency to assume that when the minimum wage is increased
people will benefit. They do not stop to think of the consequences that come from minimum wage
increases. The general population merely assumes that people should make an adequate amount of
income and never stop to consider the consequences, nor do they stop to consider alternatives. A
rise in minimum wages is not necessarily the best approach to helping the poverty stricken
individuals in this country. The following paper presents an overview of various problems
concerning raising minimum wage, finding that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Poor
The primary reason most people give for wanting to increase the minimum wage is that of helping
poor people. There are many studies that indicate the benefits are just as numerous as the damage
done. According to James Kaz, the majority of those who are paid minimum wage are not poor
but rather one of at least one other income providers in a household. Most people working for
minimum wage are teenagers...and those used to simply go work for almost nothing for some
company or individual in the field they wanted their career . (Kaz02.html)
It appears that the poor are done much more damage than good through minimum wage increases.
Neumark et al. (1999) provide the following background in that regard:
The lower employment occurs mainly because the increase in the cost of low skilled labor,
relative to the cost of using other productive inputs (such as machinery or more skilled workers),
leads employers away from using low skilled labor and toward these other inputs. This substitution
effect is reinforced by the higher overall cost of production associated with the legislated increase
in the wage for low skilled workers, which in turn raises the price of the product and results in less
output sold. (NA)
In addition, there are numerous workers who are adversely affected by a minimum wage change in
the fact that they do not receive the full amount of the legislated increase. This is what happens to,
say, an individual who

Whiteboard Research Paper
Abstract
The purpose of the assignment is to determine if Interactive White Boards enhance teaching and
learning for teachers and their students. According to research, two thirds of all teachers feel they
are not at all prepared to incorporate technology into their teaching. This is a distressing discovery
because this means that sixty six percent of our teachers, who we rely on for intellectual leadership,
and forthcoming high tech comprehension, are not at all technologically embellished. The
comforting fabrication that we tell ourselves is that we are coming into a new era where
technologically debilitated teachers will soon be retiring, and will be replaced by youthful,
technologically literate educators. However, recent surveys have found that young teacher s self
assessment of their ability to teach with technology showed no sign of improvement from ... Show

Do you believe you are able to learn better when a whiteboard is used in the classroom?
Students who responded affirmatively mentioned that they felt they learned better because the
visual aspects of the whiteboard made it easier to understand what the teacher was teaching. They
also mentioned that, when the teacher used the whiteboard, the lessons were much more
interesting. For example, one student stated, It makes me pay attention to the teacher more. When
the teacher just stands up there and talks, I get easily distracted (Beeland Jr., 2001).
3.Does having the opportunity to touch and interact with the board affect your learning? Why or
why not?
All students responding to this question, except one, mentioned that the use of touch affected their
learning in a positive way. One student stated, Yes, I get into learning when it s hands on. When I
just listen, I don t understand as well. Other students mentioned that touching the board made their
learning experiences more fun and interesting. One student did comment, It really doesn t do
anything. I still learn about the same (Beeland Jr.,

Being The Son Of A Teacher Is Hard
Being the son of a teacher is hard. There are a lot of things that come with it that makes life more
challenging. From the start, having my Mom be a teacher was strange. Imagine going to school
and calling your teacher Mom and going home and calling your mom, Mrs. Naber . Yes, that was
me, one very confused kindergartener.
The other tough thing about having my Mom work so closely with all of my current teachers was
they talked. They talked about everything. I could not get in trouble, there was no hiding the notes,
she already knew. I was a good kid in school; I never seriously got into trouble in fear of this.

Senior Year
It was beautiful. I had a few weeks left of school, then I was off to summer before leaving home to
go to college at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. I rolled into school at 7:45 rocking out to
Club Mix 96 cassette tape in my 1999 Nissan Sentra. I was instructed to park my car behind the
school near the track and football field. This was a customary event once a year during the
rummage sale days, the students cleared out and crated a maze of cars from the windows of the
cafeteria. Walking into school, I had no idea about what events would eventually transpire. I went
through classes, talked to friends, and enjoyed being a senior in a school that all the seniors
thought they ran . After school, I was out on the baseball field playing a rival team. It was a
fantastic game and more importantly a win. A celebration and shower brought my best two friends
and I out to our cars with nobody else around. Then it hit me.
I turned to my friends Sam and Jacob and I told them that I felt good. I felt like celebrating, we all
played well, we all got a win, and we were in a unique position. It was perfect and it was so simple.
I ll never forget what I said.
We should take a victory lap, I mean there is nobody here and they are building a new track
anyways. Plus, this thing is literally concrete. I said.
What? A victory lap, like in our cars? They responded.

Sexualisation Of Women In Music Videos Essay
Sexualisation can be defined as the imposing adult sexuality on to children and young people
before they are capable of coping with it usually through the media. In my investigation I aim to
discover the effects that sexualisation of men and women in music videos and the effects that this
has, mentally and emotionally, on the younger Australian generation. I also aim to discover the
extent to which music videos have been sexualized over time. In music videos the dancing or
portrayal of the people within these videos is often of a very sexual driven nature. This re inforces
the idea that women are sexual objects and the purpose of their being is to provide the male
population with sexual satisfaction. Women portrayed are very thin and pretty, wearing heavy
layers of make up which portrays the idea that women need materialistic items such as mascara and
lipstick... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The song lyrics of this video contain references to more explicit sexual behavior. For example
the lyrics, You re far from plastic, talk about getting blasted make women seem like plastic
models and provides the message that it s okay to use women for sex. The song is said to
perpetuate rape culture by rejecting the concept of clear sexual consent: there should never be
any blurred lines relating to sex. A music video called defined lines was created in response to
this music video in order to challenge the message portrayed by blurred lines . The roles were
reversed where the men in the video were portrayed in a sexualized manner and the women were
wearing suits. It is obvious after watching the defined lines video that sexualizing men seems
ridiculous and yet women are sexualized so often that it has become a definite part of our

What Is The Theme Of Friendship
Batman would not be the same without Robin, like Robin wouldn t be the same without
Batman. To begin, Max didn t have a brain until his soon to be best friend, and partner in crime,
Freak, or Kevin, came along. Also, They tackled challenges small and big, from returning a
stolen wallet to capturing a murderer. Friends should always be there for each other, that was the
case when Freak wasn t able to walk as good because of Morquio Syndrome, a syndrome that
doesn t let you grow as much as a normal kid. Throughout the novel, two major themes prevailed.
First, that friendshipis essential in a happy life. Second, teamwork is essential in a good friendship.
Teamwork between friends is as strong as any other bond imaginable; friendS must work together

Friends are essential in a happy life. As explained on page 47, I don t know why I bother.
Dinosaurs had brains the size of walnuts and they ruled the world for 67 million years. This

make light of the situation. Freak is saying that even if he is struggling in school or smarts, that
he could do great things and could be as smart as anyone. This is showing what a good friend
does. In the long run, you don t just need a friendship as a kid, but also when you are older have
someone to lean on when something happens in the real world. Also, another example of
friendship is when Max says that he didn t have a brain until Freak came along (page 1). This is
showing that if you are struggling with something, whether it is school related or something at
home, friends are there for you. In fact, when you don t have the worksheet for homework, who
are you going to turn to? Your friends, of course, friends are essential. You need a friend, in the

People do not much like being told what to do; however, people elect rulers to do just that and are
angered when things do not go their way. People do not much like making hard decisions, but do
not like to agree with people who make them instead. The ultimate debate when taking a position of
power then becomes whether to let the people have a voice in making a governmentor to build one

authoritative government. Authoritative governments benefit people more by creating equality

It wasn t too hot or too cold, it was the perfect weather. I lifted my hands over my head and took a

But this was not fantasy, it was reality and in reality Nellie was wearing grey skinny jeans and a

As this is reality, and Nellie is a very responsible girl for her age, her car came to life and I was

Volkswagen s Impact On The World s Best Known Car...
I. Volkswagen is one of the world s best known car manufacturers; unfortunately it has damaged its
credibility and reputation with the recent emission scandal that the company was involved in.
Volkswagen failed in establishing the triple bottom line, social responsibility, and sustainability.
The long and commonly held belief was that the only responsibility of business was to maximize
the wealth of its shareholders. Today, however, companies must be socially responsible and focus
on what is now called the Triple Bottom Line that is compromised of: environment, economy and
people. All of this ties into the sustainability goals that companies are now setting for themselves to

Homer s The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, is a classic literature piece written

Telamakhos tries to find his father and gain his place in adulthood. To fully find self respect,
Telamakhos must overcome the suitors that have taken over his father s house. Both men commit

A look at the former North York zoning by law 7625 shows that the change of the by law by the
time such as height max was 8.8 m and changed to the 10m.
Any variance from the requirements in the zoning by law should be confirmed by the committee of
adjustment in time of construction.

living space improvement. For example, fifty years ago, the most single family dwelling was
constructed as bungalow with one bath, no garage and living area about 1000 SqFt, but the
transition shows two storey dwelling with garage, more bathrooms and living area more than 3000
SqFt in the subject property area.
The city is restricting to follow the requirements and any request to variance from requirements will
take months to investigate by the committee of adjustment, therefore most builders interesting to

Prometheus s Journey
A new beginning was laid forth the day Prometheus discovered Individualism and the importance
of the ego, though for now, he had an experiential task laid upon his broad shoulders.
Forevermore, he will continue to spread the ideology which has blessed him, Gaia, and his newly
born son, Odysseus. Now that several years have passed since his grand discovery, his plans were to
awe his once former brothers and sisters with his new found knowledge. Moreover, Prometheus
had been working on the marvels of the old world with a working automobile(being a classic red
convertible ford with a V8 engine) the most important. Likewise, he planned to use this automobile
to travel to the dreaded city. With these new tools, Prometheus will once again set towards... Show

It felt like yesterday to Prometheus, for it was not every day you get such a euphoric moment.
Though upon his return to the city it was deprived of any sign of it having a life. This came as a
shock to Prometheus for he felt he was obligated to liberate his once former friends. As
Prometheus walked throughout the city in search of his former department, there happened to be a
smell so rancid it made him almost vomit just by being there. Upon entering the Street Sweeper
Department, he realized there was a man lying flat on the smooth marble floor. This man was no
other than International 4 8818 a former colleague of his. Prometheus immediately asked what had
become of the city to which International started to respond. He explained to Prometheus that a
plague had wiped out many the people and those who were left without the immediate side effects
had their off springs dying off as soon as they left the womb. Afterward, International no longer has
the will to continue asking Prometheus to leave him to his suffering to which Prometheus
immediately obeyed. Now with great remorse, Prometheus sets course back home and he vowed
that he would search for a bastion of Civilization to which he may share his

Summary Of The 2004 Vote
The article The 2004 Campaign: The Hispanic Vote tells me that the American Political System
discriminates against Hispanics but i the end relies on their vote, because they have a lot of
potential power in determining their states electoral college. The role that the minorities play in the
election is what way their state of New Mexico will lean in the electionbecause they make up about
42% of the population, although they could set the stage for battle in many states such as, Arizona,
Nevada and Florida.
At the time of the article the Hispanics as a whole were considered undecided in who they were
going to vote for. The Hispanics find themselves very confused on who to vote for because all the
candidates are appealing to them but they

Medical Marijuan Controlled Substance Abuse (NIDA)
Introduction Marijuana is classified as a Schedule I substance under the US federal Drug
Scheduling system created by the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 (CSA), which indicates that
the substance has a high potential for abuse and no approved medicinal use. This policy has the
support of several propionate organizations such as the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA)
and the American Medical Association (AMA) (Office of National Drug Control Policy 2014).
Despite these facts, Medical Marijuana is currently legal in 23 States and the District of Columbia

Myers-Briggs Test
Learning how to socialize in big groups and thinking before acting can take you further in life
rather than the other way around. The purpose of the Myers Briggs test is to indicate your
personality type by using four scales. The four scales are 1. extroversion/introversion 2.sensate
/intuitive, 3. thinking/feeling 4. judging/ perceiving. According to the test, I scored higher of
extroversion like than introversion. I also I scored higher in thinking rather than feeling. In other
words, using my head other than my heart. Being an extrovert comes with having high energy and

Running against me for the same position in office was a girl by the name of Rachel Monroe.
She had more experience than me because she has been in ASB all four years and won each
position she ran for and she was the vice president the previous year. She was tough competition
but I knew if I stayed focus and stuck to what I originally had planned I would be fine. Rachel
went first, she had a great plan of what she wanted to do for the upcoming school year but the
only thing about her speech is that it was dry, as in it felt like she talked forever, even though
each speech had a time limit of five to seven minutes. It was my turn, I told myself to Stay
focused Kishawn and I will receive the position that I desired. That is exactly what I did
presenting my speech with putting my personality all throughout the speech because I know how
to use my personality and comedy I had the audience laughing with tasteful jokes that I had in my
speech but making sure my plans for upcoming school year was believable and clear. I felt that I
got a positive reaction from the one s who were deciding who would get the position. At the end of
the week, there was an ASB meeting announcing the winning candidates. I was nervous but I knew
I did my best. The meeting started at three o clock, not a minute early nor a minute late. You can see
nervous faces all around the room. I made casual conversation with the ones around me to cut the
tension. Announcing

Fruit Valley Case Study
Fruit Valley has many strengths that would be cohesive to an aging friendly community. For
instance, the closeness and proximity of the houses to one another would help to keep the elderly
individuals close enough together to be able to lean on each other for support and companionship.
Although a few things could be added to better assist this growing population in this neighborhood,
for example, elderly assistance for shopping needs, a close by grocery store, delivery services for
groceries, pharmaceutical and medical supplies. Currently, FruitValley uses the Elementary school
as the hub of the community and this would be a great place to hub resources for the elderly as
well. Countless amenities could be added to make this a more convenient neighborhood for the
aging population.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elderly individuals could come in the mornings for coffee and help the K 5 aged children off the
bus and into the cafeteria for breakfast, then off to their classrooms for instruction time. This would
create a volunteer opportunity for the aging population in addition to providing a little extra
attention and nurturing for the kids, this could evolve to story time, after school care, and a buddy
to walk littles (K 5) home after school.
Andrew Lehning, Andrew Scharlach, and Teresa Dal Santo discuss in their article, A web based
approach for helping communities become more Aging friendly , that there are three characteristics
to creating an aging friendly community and having a sense of purpose and self worth are key
components in this concept. By integrating seniors with children, we as a community are providing
a need that the seniors are fulfilling which is thought to prolong the life of most in this proposed
theory (Lehning,

Music Of Mozart Effect On Children
The Mozart effect is a statement based on research studies claiming that listening to the music of
Mozart may produce an increase in your IQ and performance in certain types of mental tasks.
This effect was applied not just to adults, but later also to unborn and postpartum babies up to 60
days old. The Mozart effect stemmed from research carried out in 1993 by researchers Frances H.
Rauscher, Gordon L. Shaw and Katherine N. Ky at the Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and
Memory at UC Irvine, California. Other research studies have found no statistics to support the
Mozart effect . These studies gained media attention which resulted in the phrase Mozart effect .

Gordon L. Shaw a physicist and Katherine N. Ky (the Rauscher 1993 study) all researchers at
the Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory at UC Irvine, California. They
conducted a study where a group of 36 adult college students were exposed to Mozart s Sonata in D
Major for Two Pianos (K448), followed by a relaxation tape or silence the three conditions . Each
exposure lasted for 10 minute
intervals followed by three sets of IQ spatial reasoning tests using the Stanford Binet intelligence
scale which is a standardized test to measure intelligence. All of the students were given the same
test designed to measure spatial IQ, which involved them mentally unfolding a piece of paper that
has been folded multiple times and cut. The goal was to select the correct unfolded paper from five
examples.
The results of the experiment showed those students who listened to the Mozart Sonata scored
significantly higher than the students who listened to the relaxation tape or sat in silence. The
average score for those students who listened to Mozart was an 8 9 point increase in IQ. This
increase however was only temporary lasting for no longer than 10 15 minutes. The researcher s
findings were published in the October 14, 1993 edition of the international journal Nature , which
publishes new and innovative research in diverse scientific categories. The article garnered a lot of
media and public attention and speculation which resulted in

The Lost City Radio By Daniel Alarcon
Lost City Radio Essay The book I am reading is titled The Lost City Radio by Daniel AlarcГіn. He
is a Peruvian American writer from Lima, Peru, but he was raised in the United States. This author
s book was published in 2007 and was his debut book. The central idea of this book reveals the
effects of war on its characters and ultimately the effects of war on communities and countries on
the whole. As the author sheds light on the circumstances surrounding the main characters
encounters, via flashbacks, their war induced flaws are unmasked; the people around them are
affected as well, infected with fear, memory loss, and indifference to one another s plight. There is
something very complicated about the effects of war and AlarcГіn exposes the problems to help
readers think about the questions and solutions, if they choose. I was able to pinpoint two
characters flaws categorically; Norma and Victor both exhibit issues with identity and dislocation
because of the war. Norma is a withdrawn character, and as her name suggests, normal. She is not
enthusiastic or emotionless on any particular issue, nor does she have any individual interests in
daily life, she stays middle ground. She is a loner with no friends, no children, no pets, but most of
all no husband, which is the crust of her dissociative existence. Norma lost her husband, Rey, in the
unnamed war, of the unnamed country, in the unnamed city, and she is lost without him. Even after
ten years has passed, she is still

  • 2. The Value of Nature to Humans The Value of Nature Humans project the value of nature because humans are the only beings that are able to produce rational thoughts and are therefore, the only beings that value. Since humans are the only beings that value, they are inherently the only things that determine the value of other things. In addition to my main thesis, I will address where the valuein nature originates by explaining the disjoint relationship between humans and non humans. Expanding on my thesis, I will prove the projection view is correct by showing that all arguments for the recognition view appeal to projection. Projection, meaning, humans project value on to nature rather than recognition, meaning, humans recognize the intrinsic value of nature. The value of nature is a contentious issue that not only concerns environmental ethicists, but also everyday people around the world. As our world becomes more technologically dependent, it seems that we are becoming less concerned with nature. In deciding the future of our planet, it is important that we explore the value of nature and the consequence of destroying it. I will reference and utilize quotes by Holmes Rolston III from his novel, A New Environmental Ethics, as I evaluate the Euthyphro Problem as it applies to the value of nature. The recognition view of the value nature articulates that humans recognize the intrinsic value of nature. Where does the basis for this argument originate? Rolston defends the idea that if an organism performs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Reflection On Organizational Behavior Organizational behavior is a very important topic that only a few students take advantage of. There is nothing more powerful to have in the workforce than an understanding of the way the people around you think and act. Having the ability to engage in the work that is being done with coworkers and supervisors makes the work easier and more enjoyable. Workers can be most productive when they have strong relationships to the people around them. This is why management and organizational behavior is one of the most rewarding classes for an undergraduate. Taking the StrengthsFinder test opened my eyes about my strengths as a leader. I was shocked I got futuristic, however, I was not surprised to see strategic, empathy, relator, or includer. I tend to like to live my life in the present; I try and savor and really live through the moments happening in front of me. However, I do tend to dote on the futureand how terrified I am of it. The assessment says futuristic leaders are inspired by the future, but it truly terrifies me. I hope to look into this strength further in this course and discover how I can use the future to propel me, and those around me, forward. The other strengths I received are very encouraging, as all will likely give me an edge on any professional team. I have always had a very analytical and strategic mind, and this strength will be an asset to any company when it comes to problem solving or strengthening the company. In regards to forming professional relationships, I have never really had an issue. I have always welcomed in new people and invited those I felt might have been left out to be my friend too. Being a relator and an includer in a professional setting will give me the opportunity to develop powerful and meaningful bonds with coworkers and supervisors. Keeping these relationships will be easy for me as I am a keen observer of the human condition and I know when others are feeling sad or down. I am always empathetic, and I do my best to help whoever it may be back to their feet. In a professional setting, empathy can help me see myself in a coworkers shoes and this could resolve disputes or even help them when they are in times of need. All of my strengths deal with the central ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Allegorical Metamorphosis Allegorical Metamorphosis Metamorphosis is transformation of an insect from an immature form to an adult form. Although this term is ordinarily used in Biology, Franz Kafka uses this term to title his peculiar story. This is a story about a young man named Gregor Samsa, who is a traveling salesman. He is a typical hardworking man trying to pay off debts. However, he wakes up one morning as a human sized beetle. His parents see him as a beetle, they react negatively, but his sister, Grete, is not so concerned. In months following, she helps him get through the change. The object of psychological literary theory is to analyze the phycology of the author or the characters in the book. Applying psychological analysis to the Metamorphosis will require a critique to identify vital Freudian concepts such as; consciousness, unconsciousness, Oedipus complex and phallic symbol. Sigmund Freud states, our mind has two parts: conscious and unconscious. According to Freud, feelings, horrors, drives, conflicts and memories are part of the unconscious. A recent article published in research journal of recent sciences also says The Metamorphosis is a symbolic presentation of Gregor s unconscious world. (Barfi, 2013, p. 107). This is also supported in the book. In the opening scene of the book Gregor enters unconscious world. At the start of the book The Metamorphosis one morning, as Gregor Samsa was waking up from anxious dreams, he discovered that in the bed he had been changed in to a monstrous verminous bug. (Kafka, 1999, p. 1). In this quote the author uses words like waking and dream. One may infer from these words; Even though Gregor woke up, but in fact he transfers from conscious to unconscious world. The reason for this being is that those who lived within the Canal Zone, a five mile wide strip on either side of the canal, belonging to the U.S. and were either U.S. citizens or were West Indians working for the canal. Furthermore, the canal is 48 miles long and with a width of 10 miles, with the U.S. government having permission to acquire more land, the people of Panama are losing a vast strip of land which could be used for agriculture or other purposes. John Latane wrote his article The Effects of the Panama Canal on Our Relations with Latin America in 1914 and claims that since the Panama Canal, new policies are being formed, The building of the canal has, in the first place, rendered inevitable the adoption of a policy of naval supremacy in the Caribbean Sea, and, in the second place, it has led to the formulation of new political policies to be applied in the zone of the Caribbean... He goes on to say how these policies have given the U.S. control of canal routes, ability to acquire naval bases in the area, set up satellites, and requires governments to be constitutional and have the consent of its citizens. The scope the Panama Canal goes beyond just the simple control of a waterway. By having the canal, the U.S. was inserting greater dominance in the Caribbean Sea and in Latin American countries. The central purpose of both coaching and mentoring is to transfer specific knowledge and skills from one to the other with the intent of fostering independence (Garvey, Stokes, Megginson, 2014). This article fascinated me when I first read it because the topic not only perfectly aligned with what we have covered in class so far, but the story is the epitome of the power of genetics, genomic diversity, mutations, and natural selection playing in the ecosystem. In the article, Moffet introduces a study done by scientists at the Theodosius Dobzhansky Center for Genome Bioinformatics at St. Peterburg State University In Russia collaborated with BGI Shenzhen in China and the Cheetah Conservation Fund. It was to analyze the entire genome of the cheetah by using blood samples from a cheetah known as Chewbaaka and six other cheetahs from Namibia and East Africa. Interestingly, the complete sequencing of the genome of cheetahs uncovered many interesting facts about cheetahs, including their impoverished genetic diversity, history of their population bottlenecks, and many mutations that led to their unique physiology and characteristics as one of the fastest animals existing in the current ecosystem. Genetic diversity in an animal is the total number of genetic characteristics in the genetic makeup of a species, and it allows the population to adapt to the changing environment. Therefore, the more variation an animal contains, the higher chance it has the alleles that enable them to cope more successfully in the nature. However, through the genome ... The general population merely assumes that people should make an adequate amount of income and never stop to consider the consequences, nor do they stop to consider alternatives. A rise in minimum wages is not necessarily the best approach to helping the poverty stricken individuals in this country. The following paper presents an overview of various problems concerning raising minimum wage, finding that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Poor The primary reason most people give for wanting to increase the minimum wage is that of helping poor people. There are many studies that indicate the benefits are just as numerous as the damage done. According to James Kaz, the majority of those who are paid minimum wage are not poor but rather one of at least one other income providers in a household. Most people working for minimum wage are teenagers...and those used to simply go work for almost nothing for some company or individual in the field they wanted their career . (Kaz02.html) It appears that the poor are done much more damage than good through minimum wage increases. Neumark et al. (1999) provide the following background in that regard: The lower employment occurs mainly because the increase in the cost of low skilled labor, relative to the cost of using other productive inputs (such as machinery or more skilled workers), leads employers away from using low skilled labor and toward these other inputs. This substitution effect is reinforced by the higher overall cost of production associated with the legislated increase in the wage for low skilled workers, which in turn raises the price of the product and results in less output sold. (NA) In addition, there are numerous workers who are adversely affected by a minimum wage change in the fact that they do not receive the full amount of the legislated increase. This is what happens to, say, an individual who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Upon entering the Street Sweeper Department, he realized there was a man lying flat on the smooth marble floor. This man was no other than International 4 8818 a former colleague of his. Prometheus immediately asked what had become of the city to which International started to respond. He explained to Prometheus that a plague had wiped out many the people and those who were left without the immediate side effects had their off springs dying off as soon as they left the womb. Afterward, International no longer has the will to continue asking Prometheus to leave him to his suffering to which Prometheus immediately obeyed. Now with great remorse, Prometheus sets course back home and he vowed that he would search for a bastion of Civilization to which he may share his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary Of The 2004 Vote The article The 2004 Campaign: The Hispanic Vote tells me that the American Political System discriminates against Hispanics but i the end relies on their vote, because they have a lot of potential power in determining their states electoral college. The role that the minorities play in the election is what way their state of New Mexico will lean in the electionbecause they make up about 42% of the population, although they could set the stage for battle in many states such as, Arizona, Nevada and Florida. Medical Marijuan Controlled Substance Abuse (NIDA) Introduction Marijuana is classified as a Schedule I substance under the US federal Drug Scheduling system created by the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 (CSA), which indicates that the substance has a high potential for abuse and no approved medicinal use. This policy has the support of several propionate organizations such as the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the American Medical Association (AMA) (Office of National Drug Control Policy 2014). Despite these facts, Medical Marijuana is currently legal in 23 States and the District of Columbia (23 Legal Medial Marijuana States and DC 2014). • 45. Myers-Briggs Test Learning how to socialize in big groups and thinking before acting can take you further in life rather than the other way around. The purpose of the Myers Briggs test is to indicate your personality type by using four scales. The four scales are 1. extroversion/introversion 2.sensate /intuitive, 3. thinking/feeling 4. judging/ perceiving. According to the test, I scored higher of extroversion like than introversion. I also I scored higher in thinking rather than feeling. In other words, using my head other than my heart. Being an extrovert comes with having high energy and the love of being around large crowds. Which I can say fits my personality perfectly. Also, I think about situations in the long run before automatically acting off my immediate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Running against me for the same position in office was a girl by the name of Rachel Monroe. She had more experience than me because she has been in ASB all four years and won each position she ran for and she was the vice president the previous year. She was tough competition but I knew if I stayed focus and stuck to what I originally had planned I would be fine. Rachel went first, she had a great plan of what she wanted to do for the upcoming school year but the only thing about her speech is that it was dry, as in it felt like she talked forever, even though each speech had a time limit of five to seven minutes. It was my turn, I told myself to Stay focused Kishawn and I will receive the position that I desired. That is exactly what I did presenting my speech with putting my personality all throughout the speech because I know how to use my personality and comedy I had the audience laughing with tasteful jokes that I had in my speech but making sure my plans for upcoming school year was believable and clear. I felt that I got a positive reaction from the one s who were deciding who would get the position. At the end of the week, there was an ASB meeting announcing the winning candidates. I was nervous but I knew I did my best. The meeting started at three o clock, not a minute early nor a minute late. You can see nervous faces all around the room. I made casual conversation with the ones around me to cut the tension. Announcing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Fruit Valley Case Study Fruit Valley has many strengths that would be cohesive to an aging friendly community. For instance, the closeness and proximity of the houses to one another would help to keep the elderly individuals close enough together to be able to lean on each other for support and companionship. Although a few things could be added to better assist this growing population in this neighborhood, for example, elderly assistance for shopping needs, a close by grocery store, delivery services for groceries, pharmaceutical and medical supplies. Currently, FruitValley uses the Elementary school as the hub of the community and this would be a great place to hub resources for the elderly as well. Countless amenities could be added to make this a more convenient neighborhood for the aging population.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elderly individuals could come in the mornings for coffee and help the K 5 aged children off the bus and into the cafeteria for breakfast, then off to their classrooms for instruction time. This would create a volunteer opportunity for the aging population in addition to providing a little extra attention and nurturing for the kids, this could evolve to story time, after school care, and a buddy to walk littles (K 5) home after school. Andrew Lehning, Andrew Scharlach, and Teresa Dal Santo discuss in their article, A web based approach for helping communities become more Aging friendly , that there are three characteristics to creating an aging friendly community and having a sense of purpose and self worth are key components in this concept. By integrating seniors with children, we as a community are providing a need that the seniors are fulfilling which is thought to prolong the life of most in this proposed theory (Lehning, ... • 47. Music Of Mozart Effect On Children The Mozart effect is a statement based on research studies claiming that listening to the music of Mozart may produce an increase in your IQ and performance in certain types of mental tasks. This effect was applied not just to adults, but later also to unborn and postpartum babies up to 60 days old. The Mozart effect stemmed from research carried out in 1993 by researchers Frances H. Rauscher, Gordon L. Shaw and Katherine N. Ky at the Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory at UC Irvine, California. Other research studies have found no statistics to support the Mozart effect . These studies gained media attention which resulted in the phrase Mozart effect . Ky (the Rauscher 1993 study) all researchers at the Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory at UC Irvine, California. They conducted a study where a group of 36 adult college students were exposed to Mozart s Sonata in D Major for Two Pianos (K448), followed by a relaxation tape or silence the three conditions . Each exposure lasted for 10 minute intervals followed by three sets of IQ spatial reasoning tests using the Stanford Binet intelligence scale which is a standardized test to measure intelligence. All of the students were given the same test designed to measure spatial IQ, which involved them mentally unfolding a piece of paper that has been folded multiple times and cut. The goal was to select the correct unfolded paper from five examples. The results of the experiment showed those students who listened to the Mozart Sonata scored significantly higher than the students who listened to the relaxation tape or sat in silence. The average score for those students who listened to Mozart was an 8 9 point increase in IQ. This increase however was only temporary lasting for no longer than 10 15 minutes. The researcher s findings were published in the October 14, 1993 edition of the international journal Nature , which publishes new and innovative research in diverse scientific categories. The article garnered a lot of media and public attention and speculation which resulted in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Lost City Radio By Daniel Alarcon Lost City Radio Essay The book I am reading is titled The Lost City Radio by Daniel AlarcГіn. He is a Peruvian American writer from Lima, Peru, but he was raised in the United States. This author s book was published in 2007 and was his debut book. The central idea of this book reveals the effects of war on its characters and ultimately the effects of war on communities and countries on the whole. As the author sheds light on the circumstances surrounding the main characters encounters, via flashbacks, their war induced flaws are unmasked; the people around them are affected as well, infected with fear, memory loss, and indifference to one another s plight. There is something very complicated about the effects of war and AlarcГіn exposes the problems to help readers think about the questions and solutions, if they choose. I was able to pinpoint two characters flaws categorically; Norma and Victor both exhibit issues with identity and dislocation because of the war. Norma is a withdrawn character, and as her name suggests, normal. She is not enthusiastic or emotionless on any particular issue, nor does she have any individual interests in daily life, she stays middle ground. She is a loner with no friends, no children, no pets, but most of all no husband, which is the crust of her dissociative existence. Norma lost her husband, Rey, in the unnamed war, of the unnamed country, in the unnamed city, and she is lost without him. Even after ten years has passed, she is still ...
