THE TESTS OF A LEADER

1995
Editor s Note: Guiding change may be the ultimate test of a leader no business survives over the
long term if it can t reinvent itself. But, human nature being what it is, fundamental change is often
resisted mightily by the people it most affects: those in the trenches of the business. Thus, leading
change is both absolutely essential and incredibly difficult. Perhaps nobody understands the
anatomy of organizational change better than retired Harvard Business School professor John P
Kotter. This article, . originally published in the spring of 1995, previewed Kotter s 1996 book
Leading Change. It outlines eight critical success factors from establishing a sense of extraordinary

the downside possibilities. They worry that employees with seniority will become defensive, that
morale will drop, that events will spin out of control, that short term business results will be
jeopardized, that the stock will sink, and that they will be blamed for creating a crisis. A paralyzed
senior management often comes from having too many managers and not enough leaders.
Management s mandate is to minimize risk and to keep the current system operating. Change, by
definition, requires creating a new system, which in turn always demands leadership. Phase
one in a renewal process typically goes nowhere until enough real leaders are promoted or hired
into senior level jobs. Transformations often begin, and begin well, when an organization has a
new head who is a good leader and who sees the need for a major change. If the renewal target is
the entire company, the CEO is key. If change is needed in a division, the division general manager
is key. When these individuals are not

Health Of A High School Student
As a high school student before this class I found optimal health to be that if you are not in the
hospital or you do not have to take pills for your health daily you are in good health. Now as a
learning high school student I know on a more scholarly level that optimal health is much more
than just not being sick. Having optimal healthis not just your physical health, but also your
emotional health, spiritual health, social health and intellectual health. To have perfect optimal
health is quite difficult and most people do not have optimal health. But when you have optimal
health you feel better about yourself in your physical state and also in your mental state. Having
optimal health can cut down on health bills or insurance rates. You also live longer in a state of
optimal health. These are some of the many benefits to having optimal health.
Most individuals have to make a lifestyle change to obtain optimal health. Craig Hospital says
Promoting optimal health in any or all of these areas may mean changing your lifestyle. Yet,
choosing and sticking with healthy behaviors is tricky (https://craighospital.org/resources/optimal
health what it is and how to get it). I completely agree with this statement. Trying to change some
of my behavior for this project was very hard and choosing to stick with the one behavior change
was hard for me. I the end I was happy with the behavior I chose. I chose to make my behavior

Essay On Outsource
Outsource Abstract: Outsourcing has become a major trend over the past decade. More and more
companies, both small or large even the employee, are turning to outsourcing to grow while
restraining the costs. The growth of outsourcing seems to base on a fundamental belief that
outsourcing creates wealth and delivers value to companies that outsource. Outsourcinghas allowed
small businesses to focus on their businesses agendas, reduce costs, but many organizations are
frustrated that outsource had failed or created economic damages to their company.
1.INTRODUCTION

innovation, marketing and human resource administration. So, what is ... Show more content on

In Section 3, describes few cases about how outsourcing has created economic damages to the
company.
Section 2: Outsource The main reasons why a major corporation consider outsource is to remain
competitive with another corporation and utilize the cost. Information technology is the function
which is most likely to be outsourced approximately 30% of the time [2].
As you can see from the table in the left, another major part of the corporation that is being
outsource is training and systems development [2]. 2.1 Decision Factors For a major corporation,
the CIO spend about 80% of their time in a period of 3 6 months about the pro and con of
outsource for their company. The decision factors for outsourcing can be categorized as 1)
economic, 2) personnel, 3) risk versus control, 4) vendor and contract issues. Since IT department
gets outsource the most for most corporation, the following categorizes will be base off the IT
department.
2.1.1 Economic: One of the main reason for outsourcing will be cost saving from economies of
scale. For example, a small business need to create a website to sell their products, they don t need
to create an IT department for managing or design their website. They can outsource the web
design roles to an IT company and focus on their products.

Ultraviolet and Inverse Psoriasis Essay examples
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic skin disorder, easily identified by its symptoms of white, scaly skin and red
lesions, though not so easily cured or understood. In psoriasis, skin cells mature faster than the
body can shed them, causing a buildup. Although there are many theories as to what the cause of
such a disease might be В– genetics, stress, or other triggers В– no one is quite sure why the
disease occurs, or what could be a possible way to fully cure it. In this essay we will explore the
symptoms, types, and effects of this condition, and also some of the known treatments. Psoriasis
can occur in anyone, but there are many groups that are at a higher risk. As mentioned above,
genetics plays a role. One out of three cases of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even less common than pustular psoriasis is erythrodermic psoriasis. This type is easily
noticeable; the entire body is often covered with a fiery redness. This type also poses severe
health risks. It damages the body s ability to control temperature. Hospitalization is sometimes
required. Psoriasis often occurs on the elbows, knees or trunk. The scalp is also a common
place; 50% of patients with any sort of psoriasis have it on their scalp. There is no known cause
for psoriasis, as of yet, but many potential triggers have been identified. Injury to skin is one of
the biggest triggers. This has been named the Koebner response. Any type of skin injury can set it
off, even scratches or vaccinations. Certain medicines, such as lithium and antimalarials have been
known to trigger an outbreak. Although alcohol abuse doesn t cause the disease, it can greatly
aggravate it, causing it to flare up. Psoriasis is not diagnosed by any blood test. It is done simply
by observation. Sometimes, a biopsy may be look at underneath a microscope, but thats about all.
The severity of psoriasis dictates the type of treatment that should be used. While corticosteroids
might work for some, ultraviolet radiation might be necessary for others. Corticosteroids are the
most widely used and possibly most affective treatment available. Creams and ointments treat

A Comparison of the Functionalist View with the Marxist...
A Comparison of the Functionalist View with the Marxist View Sociologists may disagree in their
interpretation of how society works. Some have focused on what keeps society together; others
have focused on what divides society. Over the years the two major paradigms have dominated
sociology these are functionalism and the conflict theory better know as Marxism. Both the
Marxism view and the functionalist view have their own totally different point of view. Haralambos
points out that although functionalists emphasize the importance of value in society they do
recognize that conflict can occur . However functionalists consider such conflict as being the result
of temporary disturbances in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believe that a social system is a functional unity whereby all the parts of the system work
together. Co ordination and co operation . On the contrary Marxism could not be more strongly
marked. Marxism stresses that the motive force for society and social change is conflict. Marx
stresses that the links which bind sectors of society are economic and linked to the modes of
production. Social conflict is created by the differing interests of competing social groupings,
known as classes. A writer in the Marxist tradition would emphasize that the links between
groupings within society are very weak and marked by very diverse interests of each particular
group. Marxists argue that the functionalist view is an illusion to think of modern society as one
which is in a continuous state of harmony. On the contrary, every society is characterized by
continuous conflict. There exists a struggle between the various groups and classes of society. The
struggle for power, prestigue and economics goods gives rise to competition between the various
sectors of society. Therefore, what we consider as society is the outcome of this continuous social
conflict. Functionalists as opposed to Marxists dispute that social equilibrium is achieved, most
importantly, through the socialization of members of the society into the basic values

Gas Chromatography And Mass Spectrometry
Introduction
With the proliferation of drugs in today s society, certain drugs are banned by sporting
authorities because of the unfair advantage they give on athletic competitors. As a result, rigid
controls are put in place to try and limit their use, since 2010 drug testing is more prevalent than
ever before. The majority of drugs that can be used by athletes can be detected in samples of
urine; for some substances blood samples may be required. An athlete is told by a drug control
officer to submit a sample which is then sent to a laboratory for analysis and the results are reported
back to the governing athletic agency. Drug testing is becoming an increasingly integral part of
sports competitions. As new performance enhancing drugs are developed, new tests are developed
to detect these drugs, and the struggle to keep sports clean continues indefinitely. Gas
chromatography and mass spectrometry are the most common methods of chemical analysis. In this
report the benefits of gas chromatography will be explored in relation to those of mass spectrometry.
It can be concluded that gas chromatography is perceived as a better drug detection method than
mass spectrometry, however; they are commonly put together as the two techniques complement
each other to provide a more through form of drug testing.

Measuring The Volume And Mass Of A Cylinder, A Sphere And...
Objective This experiment will involve measuring the volume and mass of a cylinder, a sphere
and a wooden block. Based on the mass and volumes of these objects, the density of these objects
can be calculated. The equation for the density of an object is density =mass/volume. In the density
equation there is a direct proportional relationship between the mass of an object and its volume.
For instance, if an object has its mass decreased, its volume will also decrease.
The experiment used a Vernier caliperto measure the height and the diameter of a cylinder. A
Vernier caliper was also used to measure the diameter of the sphere. A meter stick was used to
measure the length, width, and height of the wooden block. The precision of an instrument such as
a Vernier caliper or a meter stick determines how many significant figures the data is presented in.
The mass of the objects being tested will be measured using an electronic balance. The equations
used in this experiment to determine the volumes were the volume of the cylinder: ПЂr2h; volume
of the block: (length)*(width)*(height); and the volume of the sphere: (4ПЂ/3) (r3). The volumes
of these objects will be divided by their respective masses to determine the density of each object.
The final part of the experiment will involve using a micrometer caliper to estimate how many
pages are present in the physics lab manual. Accuracy in this experiment will be seen when the
calculated density of the various objects in

concurred with this assessment, indicating that 60% of the enforcement actions were related to a
lack of professional skepticism (AICPA 2000). and that people failure is the most common cause of
audit failures (Choo and Tan 1998). In response to the SEC s concern about the quality of financial
audits, the Public Oversight Board established a panel that recommends recommended to audit
firms that they provide guidance to their audit personnel about the concept of professional
skepticism (POB 2000). Thus, understanding the role of professional skepticism in workpaper

A critical step in conducting research involving professional skepticism is a means of
identifying individuals who can be characterized as skeptical. Recent research by Hurtt (2001)
has resulted in a 30 item psychological scale that measures the degree of skepticism possessed by
an individual. In addition, a model linking an auditor s degree of skepticism and certain behaviors
has been proposed (Hurtt, Eining and Plumlee 2001). The model of skepticism, developed from

Adversity in Lord of the Flies Essay
In Lord of the Flies , how does Golding explore the main characters struggle against adversity?
Adversity is presented in many forms during Lord of the Flies for the main character Ralph. It
comes not only in the form of other people but a corruption of what society the boys on the island
have managed to hold onto.
One of the strongest forms of adversity came in the form of a strong and outspoken boy Jack;
Jack often overwhelms and disregards things that Ralph, the chief of the boys on the island, has
said to be done. Ralph, we can see, struggles to hold his control over the group of boys when Jack
refuses to believe the importance of these jobs. Ralph s biggest struggle against adversity against
Jack happens during a time of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He understands what the basics are as he knows they need food, hygiene for safety and smoke

will die .
One of the biggest forms of adversity with which the boys struggled was undoubtedly learning to
cope and overcome the fear the littluns had instilled upon themselves associated with the beast .
Golding does this by changing the way Ralph handles the crisis and changing his basic survival
instincts back to that of the society the boys have left behind and learn to be compassionate
towards the obviously scared young boys. This is obvious because throughout the book Ralph
has been harsh, we can see this most in the first few chapters where he himself is obviously
scared at the prospect of surviving with no adult help or guidance, we can see this through the
way Golding has made Ralph speak and react to the other characters, such as his harshness to
another key figure in the book, Piggy. An example of this is the fact that Ralph continuously tells
Piggy to Shut up . However, when he understands the littluns fear of the beast , his tone softens and
he understands that they need to be protected and looked after to feel safe, this is obvious because
he made sure

until on day, a young Jewish woman disguised herself, and asked Schindler to hire her parents
who were in a labor camp. He was appalled by this request and fearful of what could happent to
him if he employed them. His anger scared the girl out of his office, however a few days later the
girl was rejoicing when she saw her parents being transfered into his factory by German officials.
Several days later, all of the Jews in the camps were asked to take off all of their clothes and then
they were put through numerous exams to determine if they were sick, or healthy enough to work.
They were then separated, with the weak Jews put in the gas chambers, and the healthy Jews sent to
work.
With the Russians nearing, Germans must devise a plan to avoid them. They plan to move the
Jews to a different camp, further into Poland. Schindler wants to save the Jews, and he realizes
that he is running out of time. He makes a deal with Amon Geoth to buy the Jews. Schindler and
Stern devise a list, from memory, of 1100 Jewish workers. These Jews are give to Schindler who
then releases them to go their own way. The grateful Jews melt their gold fillings to create a ring,

I have seen the complete range of bars in homes. There are very dynamic home bars that look better

You can purchase bars of all sorts. Leather bars with two stools are sort of common. They have a

The Attitude of a Hacker in Kevin Mitnick s The Art of...
Kevin Mitnick, The Condor, The Darkside Hacker, The greatest hacker alive, whatever name he
was given that pins him down as a perpetrator of the law, Kevin Mitnick still serves as an educator
to enthusiasts in the world of Information Security. He unveils many secrets of the hacker in The
Art of Deception. The Art of Intrusiontakes a different twist from its predecessor. It looks at the
attitude of the hacker and what drives them.
Personally the book lacked the full degree of intrusions one is capable of. Looking at the resume
Kevin Mitnick has, successful intruder, phenomenal social engineer, most wanted of the law, caught
and convicted criminal, security consultant and finally company CEO, one would have expected
his personal experiences and intrusions that finally landed him as the greatest hacker ever known
by the media. With this the book lacked some sort of uniqueness because it was based on other
stories of intrusions.
Mitnick took different stories and merged lots of information through them which in turn ended
up being more of an introduction course to types of security breaches than an in depth look at
how hackers can breach security. This showed some form of incompleteness especially to a
technical audience. For the non technical it serves as a good read but not much is learnt and
gained by the technical audience so I feel the target audience was blurred out. The stories seemed
very fictional which again raised the suspicion of whether they were really true or

Motivation Theories And Motivation Of Employee Motivation...
In organizations all across the world you will find management working diligently to enhance or
maintain productivity. There are many things that can affect productivity, some that are within our
control and some that are not. Employee motivation is something that can directly affect an
organizations production. It is no secret that un motivated employees equates to un productive
workers, but how can we combat this? In order to better understand this concept we will look at the
definition of employee motivation, some of the motivation theories and some motivation techniques
that could be useful in our organizations.
What is employee motivation?
Motivation is a word used quite often in many different scenarios, at work, home, the gym as
well as other places. In order to explore employee motivation, let us first define the term.
According to Spector (2012), motivation is generally defined as an internal state that induces a
person to engage in particular behaviors (p.194). This seems to be some sort of internal pressure
that helps propel us forward in whatever endeavor we might be undertaking at the time. As with
any topic that has been repetitively researched over the years, the word motivation has been
defined in many different ways. In 1981 Kleinginna and Kleinginna documented 140 different
definitions of the word. For the purpose of this research we will be focusing on work or employee
motivation. A very good definition of this concept was developed in 1981by a professor

Power, Corrupts, Society s Demands For Moral Authority
Because power corrupts, society s demands for moral authority and character increase as the
importance of the position increases. ~John Adams
The quote above has lot of meaning and relates in many ways to my analysis of how power is
portrayed in television. There are a lot of power players and shot callers that can dominate the
scene. How much power is could truly be shown in television show? How much power does the
society have on conflicts in a relationship? Is there such a thing as a power struggle in television
shows? Does the triggering event of a conflict determine the type of power and what tactics are
used to resolve? Mahatma Gandhi says Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of
punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more
effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment. Based on Gandhi s idea
of power does the characters of Scandal act in love or out of fear? In this paper I will examined the
triggering event in several episodes of Scandal to determine the type of power and tactic of the
main power player.
Literature Review
Power is defined as the ability to influence and control events. This power is recognized by the
social power that stems from the relationships among people. Social philosopher Hannah Arendt

Disadvantages Of Riding A Motorcycle
Some are attracted by fuel efficiency and the traffic slipping ability, for others, it s the pure thrill
of the open road on two wheels. Either way, owning and riding a motorcycle is a fantastic
experience.
But there s also serious tradeoff, your body is far more exposed to the physical forces, especially in
the case of an accident! The dangers are compounded by the fact you are less visible to other road
users.
For most motorcycle enthusiasts, these risks will not deter you. Instead, focus on increasing your
awareness and road safety with these 12 tips for new motorcycles.
1. Always Gear Up
Even in the case of a slight spill, you ll be truly thankful you wore all your safety gear! On top of

especially at lower speeds. Focus 75% of your slowing and stopping power on the front brake.
But quickly stabbing or yanking either brake will cause a loss of traction and control. Apply the
brakes in a progressive squeezing manner, you can stop quickly without having an accident!
7. Be Cautious Whilst Filtering
One huge benefit of riding a motorcycle is the ability to filter through traffic jams. It s perfectly
legal so long as you comply with traffic signs and markings on the road.
But don t let your new found confidence overtake you, always proceed with caution. Stay in a low
gear and have a finger covering the brake. Remain vigilant for signs of vehicles about to side swipe
you, especially at junctions.
8. Indentify Warning Signs
Riding safely is all about anticipating other road users. Don t rely on logic or reason, look for
warning signs and then proceed with caution.
For example, if you see vehicle wheels turning and peeping out across your path, or even an
indicator, always assume may pull out without seeing you.

experience with her. It brought a lot of things to my mind and perspective. I think that she

people who try and take advantage and bully people with their authority. Its unfortunate that she
didn t start to speak up earlier because I think people use their power to get away with what they

The Objective Measurement Of Alpha Amylase
The objective measurement of alpha amylase activity is used every day to ensure the quality of
our staple foods. Alpha amylase is taken into account well before baking our foods and milling
the grains. We will be reviewing what alpha amylase is, how it is measured and what effects it has
in the industry all the way from the farm, to your fork. Alpha amylase is a protein enzyme present
in grains that have starch. It is also present in humans, most commonly in saliva (Murray). The
main purpose for alpha amylase is to break down, or hydrolase, polysaccharides, such as starch
(Murray). When alpha amylase breaks down starch and glycogen, they cause a chemical reaction
that creates the sugars maltose and glucose. Alpha amylose is also... Show more content on

The breakdown of starches into sugars gives the plant a food source to help it grow. In the 1970
s, Australian wheat farmers were suffering because their wheat crop was being bought at a
reduced rate due to high alpha amylase activity (Csiro). This was caused by LMA, or late
maturity alpha amylase. LMA is a genetic defect that causes high alpha amylase activity before
harvest (Csiro). This meant that the wheat could not be stored as long and had poor milling
qualities. As a result, in 1980, Australians recognized late maturity alpha amylase as a genetic
defect in their wheat, along with pre harvest sprouting, or PHS (Csiro). Late maturity alpha
amylase is caused only by genetics, where pre harvest sprouting can be caused by growing
conditions, such as heavy rainfall. Today in Australia, wheat breeders have to test through two
cycles of wheat before they pick what wheat lines they will breed and release to the farmers
(Csiro). Even though they screen their wheat for LMA and PHS, wheat can still be susceptible to
high alpha amylase activity, which will then become the millers responsibility. In the flour mill, if
incoming wheat has high alpha amylase activity the miller must blend the wheat with wheat that
has low alpha amylase activity, in order to create a blend with the proper amount of amylase
activity. If the incoming wheat has too high amylase activity, the wheat will be rejected and the
farmer will receive an even more income reductions. Millers

The And Considerations Behind The Creation Of Our Group...
This essay will discuss the reasons, choices and considerations behind the creation of our group
newsletter, Manaakitanga. It will involve relevant theories to support my following reflective essay,
including research on document design and group dynamics.
The rationale of our Manaakitanga newsletter is for all members across the twenty one branches of
Hospitality New Zealand, informing them about new topics, and sharing the most recent and latest
news within Hospitality NZ (New Zealand) for the employees to read. Manaakitanga is an internal
newsletter for employees, sharing the changes, achievements, the news and events that have a
broader appeal, keeping the interest alive for the readers (Kent, 2011).
First of all the content of Manaakitanga involves an interview, Early morning starts on a winning
streak , secondly an article on What is coming up in the summer months , thirdly a spotlight story
on one of Christchurch s most popular restaurants, and last of all a story on New Zealand s
drinking culture and a calendar of events highlighting important up coming courses and events for
employees to attend to.
The interview featured on page four of Manaakitanga is significant to Hospitality NZ because as

Why Hinduism Should Be Considered a World Religion
Introduction
Religion in the world today mostly depend on the number of adherents and the rate of at which they
increase in the world. While considering the statistics, studies indicate that Islam is the fastest
growing religion in the world and with a projection that by the year 2050, its popularity shall have
increased more than any other religion in the world. Alongside Islam is the Hinduism, religion
which is also projected to have a faster growth rate and according to research in 2011(Gerald 20), it
had grown in various countries mainly due to migration from India. The growth rate of Hinduism is
projected at two percent annually when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike other religions across the world, Hinduism does not have a specific way of worship, or a
god and scriptures to be used. The religion that is considered to be the oldest has an array of
beliefs and practices within it, and therefore many have always referred to it as a family religion
or a way of life. In the recent years, it has been established that there is a way in conformation to
an almost similarity among the Hindus, and a larger population now consider a sacred text known
as Veda and have a shared system of values known as dharma.
Religion can be characterized by the existence of belief and faith that something is acceptable
and should be practiced without questioning or confirmation. In the Hindu religion, it can be
confirmed that the way many things are characterized and the belief in the consequences of a
person s conduct can be categorically defined as faith. For instance, in Hindu, there is a belief
that the individual soul is not created, but it has been in existence and will continue to exist. Just
like in other religions whereby the actions of a person reaps the consequences in the next phase of
life, Hindus, however, believe that the souls will one day comeback to life in a different form,
which utterly depends on the consequences of its actions before the rebirth. The kind of body that
the soul will inhabit after that is determined by Karma, which is a term used to refer to actions

Perhaps more than any other disease before or since, syphilis... provoked the kind of widespread

HIV/AIDS, and the focusing on furthering and improving one s self. Kushner shows the
progressing times and widespread panic and beliefs through his complex characters. Their
identities work with and through each other to grant privileges or create oppressions, this is also
known as intersectionality. However, how does intersectionality shape the opportunities and

To An Army Wife In Sardis Essay
to an army wife, in Sardis written by Sappho, who is known as one of the greatest poets of
ancient Greece, is in many ways very similar to the poem written by Catullus let s live and love

Advantages Of The Jury System
The jury system of a trial is an essential element of the democratic process. Some people think
that the American jury system is not a good thing because you are going off other peoples
opinions, on the other hand people think it is a good thing because they say that is a fair way to
make a decision in court. A jurygroup is a group of citizens which hears the testimony in legal
disputes and determines what it believes is the truth. In court, we settle criminal law, and civil law
cases with jury members to help. I personally think that the American jury system is still a good and
helpful thing to use.
One reason why I think the jury system is still a good thing to use during a court case is that,
normal citizens get called to a trial, decide on a case, and try to persuade the judge about whether
or not the defendant is guilty or innocent. Another good thing is that none of the reasoning is
biased, which means all of the facts/reasoning the jury members are giving isn t opinionated.
People that have observed jury systems say that it has remarked the ability to help ordinary
citizens into self governors and get involved in civic participation. The trial by jury process puts
the people in control. The people have ultimate control in the legislative and executive branches.
(Doc C)
In some cases, the jury system being what they use can be debatable. I think it is always what you
should use to determine if the defendant is guilty or innocent during a trial. The jury system

The story, however, reflects the narrator loving that old man as it clearly states: I loved the old

story, the narrator was ensuring over that he is normal like other individuals, however, he points
out his hearing to be more acute as he claimed to hear different voices from heaven and hell
which could be hard to believe for a normal individual as mostly they are hypothetical or

Octopuses Research Paper
Octopuses are better at camouflage than any other animals. They can change their shape and color
to look like other creatures.
The best of these morphing creatures is the mimic octopus. It adopts the colors of a poisonous sea
snake and changes its body into a thin ribbon to scare predators away.
People have seen mimic octopuses look like lion fish, sea stars and other animals. When hungry, the
octopus takes the form of a crab. Crabs fooled by the display end up eaten.
Scientists and engineers are impressed by the octopuses. A team of Cornell University scientists

He and fellow Cornell scientist Robert Shepherd gave James Pikul the work of figuring it out.

Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs Essay

Maslow in his 1943 paper A Theory of Human Motivation in Psychological Review. People are
motivated to achieve certain needs. When one need is fulfilled a person seeks to fulfill the next
one, and so on. (Maslow,1943). Physiological needs The first stage of Maslow s hierarchy of
needs is physiological needs. As a person, physiological needs such as air, food, drink, shelter,

This fourth stages of Maslow s Hierarchy can be achieve when the needs of the bottom three
levels have been satisfied. As a human beings, we need to feel good about ourselves and we
need to appreciate people around us in order to feel that we are valued by others. According to
Cherry (2011), participation in professional activities, academic accomplishment, athletic or
team participation can all play an important roles to fulfilling this needs. Being able to satisfy
this needs help people to gain more confidence in life and can move to the highest stages of
Maslow s Hierarchy needs which is self actualization. However, failure to achieve this needs can
lead to inferiority and lack of self esteem. Self actualization The highest level of Maslow s
Hierarchy needs is self actualization, this need can be achieve after we have successfully satisfy
the other stages of Maslow s Hierarchy needs. Self actualization is the stage where we have
achieve the target of our life. However, this stages is vary from one person to another. It is
because every person has their own goals in life and when the goals have been achieve, there
comes self actualization. As Maslow (1954) stated that what a man can be, he must be. (p. 91).
Thus, a person who has satisfy this needs can be consider as a successful person.

Capital Punishment And The Death Penalty Essay
Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is the lawful infliction of death as a punishment.
(thefreedictionary.com). The topic is quite controversial, as its merits and effectiveness as a
deterrent for crime have been argued many times over. However, the death penalty is perfectly
within reason, as it rids the streets of criminals that have committed serious crimes and is also
cheaper for the government versus giving life sentences. Even so, there are many who are against
the death penalty. One such argument that has been made is that the death penalty is barbaric
because many innocents have been sent to their deaths. Although this would be true if these
opposers lived before 1986, that is not the case in today s world because there is access to DNA
tests and profiling. According to www.interpol.int, Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules
contain the information all living cells in the human body need to function. They also control the
inheritance of characteristics from parents to offspring. (interpol.int). DNA profiling play
important roles in crimes as it has the potential to link a series of crimes and to place a suspect at
the scene of a crime. Not only that, but also DNA can help to prove a suspect s innocence. With
DNA testing, no innocent person will die from the death penalty simply because DNA tests can be
used as concrete evidence to prove the suspect s innocence.
To start off, one should know what exactly DNA profiling is and its use for prosecution.

Marketing, Micro Marketing And Macro Marketing
Many people think that production of goods and service is important for their life. However, they
don t realize that marketing is a significant process for carrying goods and service from producers
to them. Marketing doesn t only mean to sell products or persuade customers buy goods they
actually don t need. Successful marketingprovides more choices of products and guides a correct
direction for customers to purchase right goods, as result of customer satisfaction. In other words,
customers feel happy and satisfied with goods and services because products meet with customers
needs and expectation. The best result of marketing is customers will continue to visit the stores
they once consumed. So companies will advantageously catch higher customer lifetime value
through a correct process of marketing. Both companies and customers will gain profit because
companies will make a close relationship with customers over a lifetime and customers will get
what they need. There are two types of marketing, micro marketing and macro marketing. Micro
marketing often deals with some activities of individual firms. They make customer satisfaction
and build strong relationship with customers. Product, place, promotion and price are four parts of

Sleep Figurative Language
The definition for rest is to stop being active for a period of time in order to relax and get back
your strength, or to cause someone or something to stop doing an activity in order to get back
strength (Cambridge). The definition for sleep is resting state in which the body is not active
and the mind is unconscious (Cambridge). Words have more than one meaning; in many poems
rest may mean rest in peace which means death. Another example of death is in the word sleep.
In some areas in the bible, sleep represents death. Words can be interpreted different forms using
figurative language, imagery, and symbolism. Figurative language is not meant to be interpreted
literally, but is used to intensify the work and please the readers imaginations. In line one in the
poem it states, Where sunless rivers weep , the sunless rivers means the darkness or night time.
Christina Rossetti was a religious person who used her faith in her writing. An example of this
is Led by a single star (5), the star could represent the star on top of the manger, leading people to
the birth of Jesus. There are also similes, metaphors, and repetition in the poem Dreamland .

Descartes and HisThoughts Regarding Dreams Vs Reality
In first mediation Descartes ponders on the idea of what is real and what is a dream; he concludes
that anything thing he can doubt is false and therefor a dream. After establishing the existence of
the dream world he tries to figure out who is responsible for tricking him into this false world. He
ponders on the idea that Godcould be responsible for tricking him, but quickly disregards that
assumption believing that God, who represents everything that is good, could not deceive him; and
concludes that is has to be a faulty demon who is tricking him. In the second meditation he ponders
on his own existence, after assuming the existence of the dream world and the evil demon
trickster in the first meditation. By the end of the mediation he determines that no matter what
the demon does to trick him into doubting his existence, at that moment when he thinks he
knows that he exists. By the third meditation he is certain of two things first there is a dream
world that is controlled by a demon, and second he knows that he exists. In the third mediation
he ponders on the existence of god; and Descartes ultimately achieves that god exists because he
has this idea of a prefect being that he did not learn about or imagine so this idea of god was put
in him by a superior perfect being. That brings us to the fourth meditation where Descartes tries to

Analyzing Catron s Stranger In A Strange Land
Catron, Christine R. Stranger In A Strange Land. Magill s Guide To Science Fiction
Fantasy Literature (1996): 1 2. Literary Reference Center. Web. 11 Nov. 2016. The article begins
with a summary on the plot of Stranger in a Strange Land. In the summary, Catron mentions how
Smith is the son of Dr. Mary Jane Lyle Smith and Captain Michael Brunt of who is not Dr. Mary
Jane Lyle Smith s husband. The affair connects back to Smith s inclusion of freedom of sexual
relations in Smith s church by displaying a contrast between the two diverse societies. Another
point Catron mentions in her summary is that Smith understands the full complexity of humans
once Smith laughs at some of the monkeys in a zoo who display cruel actions towards each other.

Another writer who impacts Heinlein s novel is John W. Campbell Jr. due to the similarities
between Campbell s main policy of how technology affects the social economy and Heinlein s
setting of the novel surrounding a society where the discovery of Martians is possible and
eventually affects the way people perceive Earth and people s roles on Earth as well. Catron
explains that because Heinlein s novel presents so many varied ideas, readers may react and
interpret Heinlein s statements differently. However, most do agree that Heinlein seems to
criticize the entire society by especially focusing on religious practices and the roles of
government. In all, this source is not beneficial for the research essay because all of the ideas the
source expresses are in one way or another in other articles thus, not providing significant insight
into Heinlein s Stranger in a Strange Land.

Figurative Language In Thomas Paine Crisis No. 1
Thomas Paine was an influential man who achieved many accomplished throughout his life.
Back in the revolutionary time period the colonists had to make a crucial decision, which was if
they should kneel as english subjects or stand as for what s right as americans. Thomas Paine
Crisis No. 1 uses pathos as the most persuasive technique to appeal the audience s angry feelings
toward the king about the separation from britain, he uses an anecdote to show this. Paine
believed that the only power people should have is God and nothing else. He uses figurative
language to show the audience how he feels so that they are able to connect to the situation better.

The Importance Of Time In The Military
The military, in any country, has a habit of wanting you to show up on time for work, formation,
drill and any other things that come with being a soldier. Most of the reasons behind this are
similar to those of what a civilian employer might hold. Also the simple fact that it s part of the
job. Many reasons contribute to why you must be on time in the military. Be it the oath you
swore, the Uniform Code of Military Justice, trying to get promoted, accountability or just trying
to stay out of trouble in general. The reasons are many and the people around may never know
why.The military oath. People swear their lives to it. Your heart may belong to the people you

Noki The World Leader Of The Mobile Phone Market
Nokia Microsoft Acquisition:
For more than a decade Nokia was the world leader in the mobile phone market. It is evident from
the fact that Nokia 1100 was the world s bestselling mobile phone. NOKIA was also one of the first
companies to recognize the market potential for a product combined from gaming console and a
mobile phone. Failure to recognize the market potential in the smart phone segment has put NOKIA
out of the market eventually. Microsoft made one of its huge acquisitions by purchasing Nokia s
mobile business in 2014. A number of fixed costs are associated with smart phone manufacturing.
By acquiring Nokia, Microsoft has fixed costs such as Intellectual property, Test equipment, and
manufacturer contracts. In other words, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Opportunity cost for Windows Phone:
The Investment decision to acquire a company like Nokia that has already been losing its shine
among the customers for making no major improvement to tackle the competitor, creates serious
doubts among the shareholders and the customers of the Microsoft. On any given day, a company
would obviously prefer quick profits from their investments. By buying out Nokia, Microsoft
clearly suggests that it is looking to broadening the business towards making its own mobile phone.
Now what is the opportunity cost for the customer to buying a Windows smart phone? The good
thing that happened from the acquisition is that the consumers have three major choices of
Operating system to buy from. The opportunity cost of buying a NokiaWindows smartphone is the
foregone cost of buying either an Android or iOS smart phone. The question is that to what extent
the customers would prefer Windows smart phones over the likes of Android and iOS smart phones.
The incentive problem and solution:
For a very long time Microsoft stood reluctant to make Microsoft office suite available for Apple
users. Later on, the executives at Microsoft decided

The Leader And The Follower
Quote from Jerry Rice Today I will do what others won t, so tomorrow I can accomplish what
others can t . Leadership is not a title; it is not a trade, or some sort of hierarchy. Positive
leadership is really something more. For leadership to exist, the leader has to have influence to lead
oneself, and to lead others. Leadershipat its core is a process of influence, meaning the influence
must be transactional. The leader must affect the follower by setting goals, and the follower must
affect the leader by setting goals. As the leader and the follower come together in a common
understanding, and with a common sense of purpose, only then can they begin to move together to
accomplish a common goal.
Self Assessment: Social motives, Leadership Style, Styles of Conflict, Leader Member Exchange.
The definition of an achievement leader is for management to set challenging goals, assists in
training, emphasize improvement, and expect the highest levels of performance. I personally
believe an achievement leader is one who believes it is the best to get the job done right, by
keeping their employees happy. Positive results from this are creativity in the workplace,
departments working together as a team, motivation within the company, and a low retention rate.
The negative results are too much responsibility for the employee, with no guidance from the
leader. Including low performance skills and failure to do the task that are presented. The modern
business environment requires

Essay on Settlement of the West
The existence of an area of free land, its continuous recession, and the advance of American
settlement westward explains American development . (PBS n.d.) By saying this Frederick Jackson
Turner helped increase critical thinking about the west and helped historians understand the causes
and affects it produced in the United Statesnow and back then. The settling of the west was a great
significance in the United States culture as well as characteristics. The settlement of the west was a
huge movement after the American Civil War. Greatly due to the fact that in 1862 the Homestead

With the vast amounts of cultivation and trade progressing in the west many settlements managed
to form into permanent towns with the help of steady trade that helped the residents economically.
Trade was supported by the growth of the railroad that helped with the import and export of goods
and animals. In The Significance of the Frontier in American History (shvoong n.d.) Frederick
Turner makes a point in saying that the settlement of the west had created a different race in
America. In that the way of life was different and caused many people to adapt to their surroundings
and mentally perceive lifestyles different than their counterparts on the eastern seaboard. The
settlement of the west laid the foundations for the current day United States. With the diminishing
amounts of Native Americans their way of life and culture was crushed by Americans. Currently
the amounts of remaining people with Native American backgrounds have diminished significantly
because of the past incidents. Settling in the west many times was filled with trial and error, not
all towns being able to progress. Large cities such as Las Vegas, Nevada show the roots of what the
once small town thrived from, this one specifically being from gambling and prostitution. Myths
helped make the west seem more enticing by convincing the common man that he could finally
become the man he has always wanted to be. The settlement of any land is

How To Get Teens Off Drugs
Step one Create a community space for teenagers that offers healthy alternatives to drugs. Activities
would include art classes, drawing classes, yoga, weight lifting, martial arts and dance. These
classes will be run by younger mentors aged 18 25.
Step two Offer a counseling program ( lead my younger councilors) that offer a safe space fro
teens to discuss their family lives, school problems, potential drug problems, sex and social issues.
Step three Create a community hot line where local teens can call in when they are in trouble
with drugs. I would love to add a place fro teens to call if they are with a drunk driver and need a
safe way to get home.

Gandalf As An Epic Hero
Gandalf
The hero is one who kindles a great light in the world, who sets up blazing torches in the dark
streets of life for men to see by. Felix Adler
Although it is accurate, rarely has the epithet epic hero been used to describe Gandalf the
Wizard. Epic heroes are easily recognizable throughout History textbooks and simple searches via
Google, but many people just cannot put a finger on what exactly is an epic hero. The criteria is
simple to say, yet difficult to accomplish; do a tremendous deed or disservice and be identified by a
well known or well established piece of writing or section of History. In The Lord of the Rings,
Gandalf embodies the characteristics of an epic hero, such as traveling vast distances, battling
supernatural foes, and having humility.
Hannibal, Julius Caesar, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Gandalf; in their time, these four figures
traveled over vast distances. Hannibal through Italy, Caesar through Gaul, Napoleon through
Europe, and Gandalf through Middle earth. However, Gandalf did not just travel the span of
Middle earth, but the span of life and death. In The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the
Ring, Gandalf is pulled into a dark chasm by a Luciferic creature, a chasm that has a symbolic
meaning. He lands and defeats the Balrog on a snowy mountaintop, but death creeps up on him,
until it finally takes him over. Gandalf then began a separate journey, one that took him away from
life and entered the unknown. As the stars wheeled

Oodgeroo Noonuccal s Rubbish May Be Tipped Here

already just traces of the bora ring but now it is barely there, the bora ring was a sacred ground
to the aboriginals and now it is not being respected by the white people. In Then and Now,
Noonuccal writes, Where that factory belches smoke; here where they have memorial park. One

Diabetes and Beta
Diabetes
Beta carotene is an organic compound categorized as a terpenoid (GutieМЃrrez, Gonzalez, 2010).
Naturally, it is a predecessor of vitamin A, and found in several yellow fruits and vegetables. These
organic nutrients play a vital role in aiding vision, skin growth, and bone development. In addition
to these crucial roles, Beta carotene may be of significant help in regulating the blood sugar in
diabetic persons (GutieМЃrrez, Gonzalez, 2010). Human bodies regulate blood sugar levels with
the help of the hormone called insulin. In the absence or inadequate supply of this hormone, an
individual is said to be diabetic. Diabetes may results in solemn conditions such as blindness, heart
diseases, and stroke. Over the years, medical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beta carotene deficiency symptoms include nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, and loss of senses in
some cases. These symptoms occur in the aftermath of excessive consumption of Beta carotene
supplements. Individuals experiencing Beta carotene symptoms must immediately see a physician
as a delay in this regard might result in death. Similarly, researchers have established that excessive
consumptions of Beta carotene may result in hypervitaminosis A. Under this condition, the main
symptom is skin discoloration among the affected individuals. Beta carotene toxicity cases are
rampant among smokers. Physicians advise active smokers to avoid these supplements as their
intake results in increase risk of lung cancer. Scientists have asserted that metabolites elements
present in the Beta carotene substances destroy retinoic acids that repress cancer growth in the
lungs (GutieМЃrrez, Gonzalez, 2010). In addition, metabolites catalyze proteins responsible for cell
division hence activates the growth of cancerous cells. It is for this reason that smokers are
prohibited from taking Beta carotene substances. Thus, Beta carotene supplements are best suited
for diabetic patients and vitamin A deficient individuals. Although available without prescription,
Physicians advise individuals to take Beta carotene under doctor s instructions to avoid instances of
Beta carotene toxicity. In addition to its positive

Inspectors may inspect businesses and obtain undertakings from employers to comply with their
duties in terms of the Act. Failing that, they may issue compliance orders, to which or against
which an employer may object or appeal. Any party assessing compliance with the Act has
discretion to consider a variety of factors amounting to whether the employer has made reasonable
attempts, in his/her particular circumstances, to comply. The Director General may conduct a
review of whether an employer has complied with the Act and followed it with recommendations
on methods of compliance. If that fails, the Director General may refer the matter to the Labour
Court, which is the ultimate Court which may enforce the provisions of the Act. Chapter II of the
Act came into operation during 1998. Since the passing of the Act, the President, in terms of
Section 65, determined that Chapter III and Sections 35 to 46, 58 and 65, and Schedules 1 and 4
would come into operation on 1 December 1999.

  • 2. Kotter THE TESTS OF A LEADER | BEST OF HBR | 1995 Editor s Note: Guiding change may be the ultimate test of a leader no business survives over the long term if it can t reinvent itself. But, human nature being what it is, fundamental change is often resisted mightily by the people it most affects: those in the trenches of the business. Thus, leading change is both absolutely essential and incredibly difп¬Ѓcult. Perhaps nobody understands the anatomy of organizational change better than retired Harvard Business School professor John P Kotter. This article, . originally published in the spring of 1995, previewed Kotter s 1996 book Leading Change. It outlines eight critical success factors from establishing a sense of extraordinary ... Sometimes they grossly overestimate how successful they have already been in increasing urgency. Sometimes they lack patience: Enough with the preliminaries; let s get on with it. In many cases, executives become paralyzed by hbr.org | the downside possibilities. They worry that employees with seniority will become defensive, that morale will drop, that events will spin out of control, that short term business results will be jeopardized, that the stock will sink, and that they will be blamed for creating a crisis. A paralyzed senior management often comes from having too many managers and not enough leaders. Management s mandate is to minimize risk and to keep the current system operating. Change, by deп¬Ѓnition, requires creating a new system, which in turn always demands leadership. Phase one in a renewal process typically goes nowhere until enough real leaders are promoted or hired into senior level jobs. Transformations often begin, and begin well, when an organization has a new head who is a good leader and who sees the need for a major change. If the renewal target is the entire company, the CEO is key. If change is needed in a division, the division general manager is key. Health Of A High School Student As a high school student before this class I found optimal health to be that if you are not in the hospital or you do not have to take pills for your health daily you are in good health. Now as a learning high school student I know on a more scholarly level that optimal health is much more than just not being sick. Having optimal healthis not just your physical health, but also your emotional health, spiritual health, social health and intellectual health. To have perfect optimal health is quite difficult and most people do not have optimal health. But when you have optimal health you feel better about yourself in your physical state and also in your mental state. Having optimal health can cut down on health bills or insurance rates. You also live longer in a state of optimal health. These are some of the many benefits to having optimal health. Most individuals have to make a lifestyle change to obtain optimal health. Craig Hospital says Promoting optimal health in any or all of these areas may mean changing your lifestyle. Yet, choosing and sticking with healthy behaviors is tricky (https://craighospital.org/resources/optimal health what it is and how to get it). I completely agree with this statement. More and more companies, both small or large even the employee, are turning to outsourcing to grow while restraining the costs. The growth of outsourcing seems to base on a fundamental belief that outsourcing creates wealth and delivers value to companies that outsource. Outsourcinghas allowed small businesses to focus on their businesses agendas, reduce costs, but many organizations are frustrated that outsource had failed or created economic damages to their company. 1.INTRODUCTION Outsourcing practice is in almost every domain such as, software development, finance, accounting, innovation, marketing and human resource administration. Information technology is the function which is most likely to be outsourced approximately 30% of the time [2]. As you can see from the table in the left, another major part of the corporation that is being outsource is training and systems development [2]. 2.1 Decision Factors For a major corporation, the CIO spend about 80% of their time in a period of 3 6 months about the pro and con of outsource for their company. • 6. Ultraviolet and Inverse Psoriasis Essay examples Psoriasis Psoriasis is a chronic skin disorder, easily identified by its symptoms of white, scaly skin and red lesions, though not so easily cured or understood. In psoriasis, skin cells mature faster than the body can shed them, causing a buildup. Although there are many theories as to what the cause of such a disease might be В– genetics, stress, or other triggers В– no one is quite sure why the disease occurs, or what could be a possible way to fully cure it. In this essay we will explore the symptoms, types, and effects of this condition, and also some of the known treatments. Psoriasis can occur in anyone, but there are many groups that are at a higher risk. As mentioned above, genetics plays a role. One out of three cases of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even less common than pustular psoriasis is erythrodermic psoriasis. This type is easily noticeable; the entire body is often covered with a fiery redness. This type also poses severe health risks. It damages the body s ability to control temperature. Hospitalization is sometimes required. Psoriasis often occurs on the elbows, knees or trunk. The scalp is also a common place; 50% of patients with any sort of psoriasis have it on their scalp. There is no known cause for psoriasis, as of yet, but many potential triggers have been identified. Injury to skin is one of the biggest triggers. This has been named the Koebner response. Any type of skin injury can set it off, even scratches or vaccinations. Certain medicines, such as lithium and antimalarials have been known to trigger an outbreak. Although alcohol abuse doesn t cause the disease, it can greatly aggravate it, causing it to flare up. Psoriasis is not diagnosed by any blood test. It is done simply by observation. Sometimes, a biopsy may be look at underneath a microscope, but thats about all. The severity of psoriasis dictates the type of treatment that should be used. While corticosteroids might work for some, ultraviolet radiation might be necessary for others. Corticosteroids are the most widely used and possibly most affective treatment available. Some have focused on what keeps society together; others have focused on what divides society. Over the years the two major paradigms have dominated sociology these are functionalism and the conflict theory better know as Marxism. Both the Marxism view and the functionalist view have their own totally different point of view. Haralambos points out that although functionalists emphasize the importance of value in society they do recognize that conflict can occur . They believe that a social system is a functional unity whereby all the parts of the system work together. Co ordination and co operation . On the contrary Marxism could not be more strongly marked. Marxism stresses that the motive force for society and social change is conflict. Marx stresses that the links which bind sectors of society are economic and linked to the modes of production. Social conflict is created by the differing interests of competing social groupings, known as classes. A writer in the Marxist tradition would emphasize that the links between groupings within society are very weak and marked by very diverse interests of each particular group. Marxists argue that the functionalist view is an illusion to think of modern society as one which is in a continuous state of harmony. On the contrary, every society is characterized by continuous conflict. There exists a struggle between the various groups and classes of society. The struggle for power, prestigue and economics goods gives rise to competition between the various sectors of society. Therefore, what we consider as society is the outcome of this continuous social conflict. Functionalists as opposed to Marxists dispute that social equilibrium is achieved, most importantly, through the socialization of members of the society into the basic values ... • 8. Gas Chromatography And Mass Spectrometry Introduction With the proliferation of drugs in today s society, certain drugs are banned by sporting authorities because of the unfair advantage they give on athletic competitors. As a result, rigid controls are put in place to try and limit their use, since 2010 drug testing is more prevalent than ever before. The majority of drugs that can be used by athletes can be detected in samples of urine; for some substances blood samples may be required. An athlete is told by a drug control officer to submit a sample which is then sent to a laboratory for analysis and the results are reported back to the governing athletic agency. Drug testing is becoming an increasingly integral part of sports competitions. As new performance enhancing drugs are developed, new tests are developed to detect these drugs, and the struggle to keep sports clean continues indefinitely. Gas chromatography and mass spectrometry are the most common methods of chemical analysis. In this report the benefits of gas chromatography will be explored in relation to those of mass spectrometry. It can be concluded that gas chromatography is perceived as a better drug detection method than mass spectrometry, however; they are commonly put together as the two techniques complement each other to provide a more through form of drug testing. • 10. Measuring The Volume And Mass Of A Cylinder, A Sphere And... Objective This experiment will involve measuring the volume and mass of a cylinder, a sphere and a wooden block. Based on the mass and volumes of these objects, the density of these objects can be calculated. The equation for the density of an object is density =mass/volume. In the density equation there is a direct proportional relationship between the mass of an object and its volume. For instance, if an object has its mass decreased, its volume will also decrease. The experiment used a Vernier caliperto measure the height and the diameter of a cylinder. A Vernier caliper was also used to measure the diameter of the sphere. A meter stick was used to measure the length, width, and height of the wooden block. The precision of an instrument such as a Vernier caliper or a meter stick determines how many significant figures the data is presented in. The mass of the objects being tested will be measured using an electronic balance. The equations used in this experiment to determine the volumes were the volume of the cylinder: ПЂr2h; volume of the block: (length)*(width)*(height); and the volume of the sphere: (4ПЂ/3) (r3). The volumes of these objects will be divided by their respective masses to determine the density of each object. The final part of the experiment will involve using a micrometer caliper to estimate how many pages are present in the physics lab manual. Accuracy in this experiment will be seen when the calculated density of the various objects in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In response to the SEC s concern about the quality of financial audits, the Public Oversight Board established a panel that recommends recommended to audit firms that they provide guidance to their audit personnel about the concept of professional skepticism (POB 2000). Thus, understanding the role of professional skepticism in workpaper review may provide important insight into a recognized problem within the audit profession. A critical step in conducting research involving professional skepticism is a means of identifying individuals who can be characterized as skeptical. Recent research by Hurtt (2001) has resulted in a 30 item psychological scale that measures the degree of skepticism possessed by an individual. Adversity is presented in many forms during Lord of the Flies for the main character Ralph. It comes not only in the form of other people but a corruption of what society the boys on the island have managed to hold onto. One of the strongest forms of adversity came in the form of a strong and outspoken boy Jack; Jack often overwhelms and disregards things that Ralph, the chief of the boys on the island, has said to be done. One of the biggest forms of adversity with which the boys struggled was undoubtedly learning to cope and overcome the fear the littluns had instilled upon themselves associated with the beast . Golding does this by changing the way Ralph handles the crisis and changing his basic survival instincts back to that of the society the boys have left behind and learn to be compassionate towards the obviously scared young boys. This is obvious because throughout the book Ralph has been harsh, we can see this most in the first few chapters where he himself is obviously scared at the prospect of surviving with no adult help or guidance, we can see this through the way Golding has made Ralph speak and react to the other characters, such as his harshness to another key figure in the book, Piggy. An example of this is the fact that Ralph continuously tells Piggy to Shut up . His anger scared the girl out of his office, however a few days later the girl was rejoicing when she saw her parents being transfered into his factory by German officials. Several days later, all of the Jews in the camps were asked to take off all of their clothes and then they were put through numerous exams to determine if they were sick, or healthy enough to work. They were then separated, with the weak Jews put in the gas chambers, and the healthy Jews sent to work. With the Russians nearing, Germans must devise a plan to avoid them. They plan to move the Jews to a different camp, further into Poland. Schindler wants to save the Jews, and he realizes that he is running out of time. He makes a deal with Amon Geoth to buy the Jews. He unveils many secrets of the hacker in The Art of Deception. The Art of Intrusiontakes a different twist from its predecessor. It looks at the attitude of the hacker and what drives them. Personally the book lacked the full degree of intrusions one is capable of. Looking at the resume Kevin Mitnick has, successful intruder, phenomenal social engineer, most wanted of the law, caught and convicted criminal, security consultant and finally company CEO, one would have expected his personal experiences and intrusions that finally landed him as the greatest hacker ever known by the media. With this the book lacked some sort of uniqueness because it was based on other stories of intrusions. Mitnick took different stories and merged lots of information through them which in turn ended up being more of an introduction course to types of security breaches than an in depth look at how hackers can breach security. This showed some form of incompleteness especially to a technical audience. • 17. Motivation Theories And Motivation Of Employee Motivation... In organizations all across the world you will find management working diligently to enhance or maintain productivity. There are many things that can affect productivity, some that are within our control and some that are not. Employee motivation is something that can directly affect an organizations production. It is no secret that un motivated employees equates to un productive workers, but how can we combat this? In order to better understand this concept we will look at the definition of employee motivation, some of the motivation theories and some motivation techniques that could be useful in our organizations. What is employee motivation? Motivation is a word used quite often in many different scenarios, at work, home, the gym as well as other places. In order to explore employee motivation, let us first define the term. According to Spector (2012), motivation is generally defined as an internal state that induces a person to engage in particular behaviors (p.194). This seems to be some sort of internal pressure that helps propel us forward in whatever endeavor we might be undertaking at the time. As with any topic that has been repetitively researched over the years, the word motivation has been defined in many different ways. In 1981 Kleinginna and Kleinginna documented 140 different definitions of the word. For the purpose of this research we will be focusing on work or employee motivation. A very good definition of this concept was developed in 1981by a professor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Power, Corrupts, Society s Demands For Moral Authority Because power corrupts, society s demands for moral authority and character increase as the importance of the position increases. ~John Adams The quote above has lot of meaning and relates in many ways to my analysis of how power is portrayed in television. There are a lot of power players and shot callers that can dominate the scene. How much power is could truly be shown in television show? How much power does the society have on conflicts in a relationship? Is there such a thing as a power struggle in television shows? Does the triggering event of a conflict determine the type of power and what tactics are used to resolve? Mahatma Gandhi says Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment. Based on Gandhi s idea of power does the characters of Scandal act in love or out of fear? In this paper I will examined the triggering event in several episodes of Scandal to determine the type of power and tactic of the main power player. Literature Review Power is defined as the ability to influence and control events. This power is recognized by the social power that stems from the relationships among people. Social philosopher Hannah Arendt (1969) states that Power is never the property of an individual; it belongs to a group and remains in existence only long as the groups keep together. Alpha amylase is taken into account well before baking our foods and milling the grains. We will be reviewing what alpha amylase is, how it is measured and what effects it has in the industry all the way from the farm, to your fork. Alpha amylase is a protein enzyme present in grains that have starch. It is also present in humans, most commonly in saliva (Murray). The main purpose for alpha amylase is to break down, or hydrolase, polysaccharides, such as starch (Murray). The breakdown of starches into sugars gives the plant a food source to help it grow. In the 1970 s, Australian wheat farmers were suffering because their wheat crop was being bought at a reduced rate due to high alpha amylase activity (Csiro). This was caused by LMA, or late maturity alpha amylase. LMA is a genetic defect that causes high alpha amylase activity before harvest (Csiro). This meant that the wheat could not be stored as long and had poor milling qualities. As a result, in 1980, Australians recognized late maturity alpha amylase as a genetic defect in their wheat, along with pre harvest sprouting, or PHS (Csiro). Late maturity alpha amylase is caused only by genetics, where pre harvest sprouting can be caused by growing conditions, such as heavy rainfall. Today in Australia, wheat breeders have to test through two cycles of wheat before they pick what wheat lines they will breed and release to the farmers (Csiro). Even though they screen their wheat for LMA and PHS, wheat can still be susceptible to high alpha amylase activity, which will then become the millers responsibility. In the flour mill, if incoming wheat has high alpha amylase activity the miller must blend the wheat with wheat that has low alpha amylase activity, in order to create a blend with the proper amount of amylase activity. If the incoming wheat has too high amylase activity, the wheat will be rejected and the farmer will receive an even more income reductions. Millers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Advantages Of The Jury System The jury system of a trial is an essential element of the democratic process. Some people think that the American jury system is not a good thing because you are going off other peoples opinions, on the other hand people think it is a good thing because they say that is a fair way to make a decision in court. A jurygroup is a group of citizens which hears the testimony in legal disputes and determines what it believes is the truth. In court, we settle criminal law, and civil law cases with jury members to help. I personally think that the American jury system is still a good and helpful thing to use. One reason why I think the jury system is still a good thing to use during a court case is that, normal citizens get called to a trial, decide on a case, and try to persuade the judge about whether or not the defendant is guilty or innocent. Another good thing is that none of the reasoning is biased, which means all of the facts/reasoning the jury members are giving isn t opinionated. People that have observed jury systems say that it has remarked the ability to help ordinary citizens into self governors and get involved in civic participation. The trial by jury process puts the people in control. The people have ultimate control in the legislative and executive branches. During the first episode, he is introduced touring his fellow interns around the surgical room, while discussing their roles. Another African American character that is introduced after is Miranda Bailey, with the role of a female superior doctor who speaks in a formal and assured manner nicknamed as the Nazi in the hospital because of the way she treats her interns. For example, she is harsh to everyone in the episode which makes the interns come to respect her. Miranda Bailey offers one of the more intriguing examples of how blackness is figured in a text such as Grey s Anatomy as a matter of personal and communication style, rather than political and social differences (Havens, 2013, p. 125). Racial stereotypes are presented in this series differently, as African Americans are given major roles. This is an advantage towards destroying the racial stereotype of the audience believing only white characters are intended to main roles. The series also displays an Asian character, Christina Yang. Descartes and HisThoughts Regarding Dreams Vs Reality In first mediation Descartes ponders on the idea of what is real and what is a dream; he concludes that anything thing he can doubt is false and therefor a dream. After establishing the existence of the dream world he tries to figure out who is responsible for tricking him into this false world. He ponders on the idea that Godcould be responsible for tricking him, but quickly disregards that assumption believing that God, who represents everything that is good, could not deceive him; and concludes that is has to be a faulty demon who is tricking him. In the second meditation he ponders on his own existence, after assuming the existence of the dream world and the evil demon trickster in the first meditation. By the end of the mediation he determines that no matter what the demon does to trick him into doubting his existence, at that moment when he thinks he knows that he exists. By the third meditation he is certain of two things first there is a dream world that is controlled by a demon, and second he knows that he exists. In the third mediation he ponders on the existence of god; and Descartes ultimately achieves that god exists because he has this idea of a prefect being that he did not learn about or imagine so this idea of god was put in him by a superior perfect being. That brings us to the fourth meditation where Descartes tries to figure out why do we have faults and make wrong decisions, errors. Leadership is not a title; it is not a trade, or some sort of hierarchy. Positive leadership is really something more. For leadership to exist, the leader has to have influence to lead oneself, and to lead others. Leadershipat its core is a process of influence, meaning the influence must be transactional. The leader must affect the follower by setting goals, and the follower must affect the leader by setting goals. As the leader and the follower come together in a common understanding, and with a common sense of purpose, only then can they begin to move together to accomplish a common goal. Self Assessment: Social motives, Leadership Style, Styles of Conflict, Leader Member Exchange. The definition of an achievement leader is for management to set challenging goals, assists in training, emphasize improvement, and expect the highest levels of performance. I personally believe an achievement leader is one who believes it is the best to get the job done right, by keeping their employees happy. Positive results from this are creativity in the workplace, departments working together as a team, motivation within the company, and a low retention rate. The negative results are too much responsibility for the employee, with no guidance from the leader. Including low performance skills and failure to do the task that are presented. The modern business environment requires ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Frederick Turner makes a point in saying that the settlement of the west had created a different race in America. In that the way of life was different and caused many people to adapt to their surroundings and mentally perceive lifestyles different than their counterparts on the eastern seaboard. The settlement of the west laid the foundations for the current day United States. With the diminishing amounts of Native Americans their way of life and culture was crushed by Americans.
