The Tortula Curtain Analysis
With immigration a hot topic in modern media, novels like T.C. Boyle s The Tortilla Curtain are
helpful texts for discussion. The Tortilla Curtain is a satiric approach to addressing the
immigration problem of the United States, as well as addressing the racism and xenophobia
perpetuated by white Americans living close to the border with Mexico. The novel revolves around
two contrasting couples: white liberals Delaney and Kyra Mossbacher, who lead cushy lives of
ignorance and luxury in the Arroyo Blanco Estates, and Mexican immigrants CГЎndido and
AmГ©rica RincГіn, who live in the actual canyon of Topanga Canyon and struggle to even put
food on the table. As the story progresses and the parallels between these two couples lives become
clear,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He recycles, he hikes, and he writes a column for Wide Open Spaces called Pilgrim at Topanga
Creek, in which he details his adventures and even advocates for change. His advocacy grows
closer to home, however, as the prevalence of both coyotes and Mexican immigrants overwhelms
him and the rest of the inhabitants of Arroyo Blanco Estates. Originally very liberal, Delaney s
morals are transformed dramatically by the end of the novel, shifting from idealistic liberalism to
gritty conservatism. In The Tortilla Curtain, the coyotes are a symbol for immigrants and white
fragility, jumping their fences and stealing their handouts. They represent the caricature with which
Arroyo Blanco residents associate immigrants: violent, unpredictable, and wild, tricksters who roam
the earth and find resources where there are none. As the novel progresses, Delaney s antipathy
against coyotes corresponds to his waning sympathy for Mexican

Present Themes In The First Day By Edward P. Jones
American actress and model, Kristen Stewart, once said, Judging a person does not define who
they are. It defines who you are. Kristen Stewart (A Z Quotes). People judge others every single
day. Silent eyes beat down on people and negative thoughts seeping into hearts. Everyone does it,
but some just are clueless about the impact. This judgmentis present in Edward P. JonesThe First
Day, where a little girl comes to realize that people are judging her and her mother for being who
they are, and determining what they are like based on their status. In Jones short story The First
Day, the present theme is that a person s status determines how a person is viewed, liked, and how
economically stable they are. This focus is present through the imagery of the little girl and the
characterization of the mother.
One way Jones shows the theme that a person s status determines how a person is viewed, liked,
and how economically stable they are, is through the imagery of the little girl. It is an African
American girl s first day of school, and the mother is getting her all dolled up to make a good
impression. I am wearing a checkeredlike blue and green cotton dress, and scattered about these
colors are bits of yellow and white and brown. My mother has uncharacteristically spent nearly an
hour on my hair that morning, plaiting and replaiting so that now my scalp tingles (Jones 1). The
mother really wants to make a good impression on the new school that her daughter is going to, and
not look poor or different. When saying that the mother has uncharacteristically done her hair, the
mother is going out of her way to do something special. The mother has spent an hour on this girl s
hair for her very first day of school, which is not like herself. Thus showing, that the mother really
cares about the first impression that the daughter makes at her new school and community, and how
they are viewed with their status. The mother is changing the image of her daughter to try and
better her off. Ultimately, through imagery, the highlighted theme is that people are judged based
on their statuses.
The mother in the story also proves that people are judging. Through the use of characterization by

Purpose Of Me Writing This Portfolio
The purpose of me writing this portfolio is so my reviewers can understand the struggle that i

my final portfolio I am going to put three types of essays the first one is going to be a timed essay
the one I am going to put in of the timed essayis going to be my classification timed essay I did this

comes to a timed essay and a regular essay. The second essay I am going to put it in is a teacher

essay I am going to put in my essay is a student edit essay and the name of that one is called

because I felt like I didn t have enough time and I wasn t organized so it took me longer than

Nannette Burstein American Teen
AMERICAN TEEN:
A documentary filled with scripted spontaneity and a slight insight to reality explores the
stereotypical lives of five high school seniors. Kaylee O Dwyer talks about the truth behind this
popular film, American Teen.
American Teen, directed by Nanette Burstein, is a documentary film set in a small town in Indiana.
The film follows the lives of five high school teenagers through their final year of high school in
a way that hasn t been perceived since The Breakfast Club . The film over exaggerates the
problems, demands and complications the modern generations are facing today by combining
candid footage with false, staged events. The goal is less to provide a slice of reality than it is to
estimate a fictionalized version of that reality through the inclusion of re enactments,
dramatisations, voice overs and other techniques, deceiving viewers into believing that what they re
seeing is actually real.
The film follows the five seniors from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are without a doubt numerous scenes in the film that are obviously staged or recreated for
reasons such as in situations which the camera man wasn t present, to improve the film, errors in
the recordings or errors in the sound. Viewers have doubted the authenticity of the film but
Burstein continues to defend her film as an accurate, non manipulated insight of teenage life. The
scene of Megan sending around Erica s picture to the whole school captures the replies and
comments all the students were making. Also in the scene where Hannah s boyfriend breaks up
with her by text captures his message perfectly to Hannah. In a situation of an unexpected event
there is no possible way the camera man could be present at all times to capture every reply.
Burstein seems to always have her camera present at just the right

The Possibility Of Evil Analysis
We all like to look at things that appeal our preferences. But sometimes, appearances can deceive
us, such as a good deal you may see. One common example would be online shopping. The price
that is offered upfront is very appealing, all until it comes down to the final cost after including
shipping and handling, taxes, or any other unmentioned expenses. Or maybe a movie that has an
interesting trailer, but the actual film as a whole was not as good as it appeared to be. Instead of
judging at first glance, one should first investigate and then make a decision after their analysis.
The main characters in the short stories Lamb to the Slaughter , by Roald Dahland, The Possibility
of Evil , by Shirley Jackson, should have known this lesson. In Lamb to the Slaughter, Mary
Maloney is a kind housewife this sweet who loves her husband dearly, but changes to a bitter and
angry widow after her husband leaves her. In The Possibility of Evil, Miss Strangeworth appears
to be a kind elderly lady, but behind close doors, she is the complete opposite. After reading both
stories, the readers learn that even though something may appear one way, it can turn out to be
something completely different than we expected. True colors are not always revealed at first sight.
In The Possibility of Evil, Shirley Jackson gives us a character who seems to be the town s
sweetest, most innocent, and is the longest established resident, but in reality is a nosy, dark
woman with a destructive

Analysis Of Blood On The Forge By William Attaway
A Change of Culture Culture has the power of informing you of someone s identity. It is said that
culture is the way of life a group of people follow, meaning their behaviors, beliefs, values, and
symbols that identify them as where they came from, who they are, and who they can become. On
the other hand, we know that culture is always changing and adapting to the lifestyleand advances
of the present day. This can happen by the adaptation groups of people have suffered in order to
achieve a better way of living other than the one they ve previously had. Examples of these
changes can be seen with the Great Migration in the 1900s. A movement in which many African
Americans moved to the North to work and settle in the steel mills in search of a better life. In
Blood on the Forge by William Attaway, we are able to in fact prove that culture can change and
adaptation plays a key role in our existence. The book portrays this change through the life and
experiences of the Moss brothers and their lifestyle from Kentucky to Pennsylvania. With that of
culture comes our identity through music. The death of the blues serves as an example in how
culture is put up to the challenge of change. Melody, Chinatown, and Big Mat represent the loss of
folk culture which accompanied the Great Migration of Black people from the rural South to the
industrial North (Waldron 58). As we begin to read, we are able to interpret their lives and identity
in the South through Melody s music. This

Why Is Marvel Better Than Dc Comics
Why I think Marvel Comics is better than DC Comics. I have many details to show you why I
am 100 percent right on this. Now if you are a DC fan and reading this you can go read about
whatever you want this is my opinion not yours. I don t care for DC comics at all they only
have a few good characters and even they can be unbearable sometimes. Marvel on the other
hand is the exact opposite of this Marvel has almost only great characters and a few bad ones.My
first reason Marvel is better is because they have Spider Man. Spider Man in my opinion is in the
top five of Marvel s best characters. DC knows this too so they tried to copy him and make him a
villain in there own comic books. I realize that we quite plainly ripped off Deadpool from there
own Deathstroke but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People like him so much that they rebooted him twice but that s probably because of Sony and
Marvel s rocky character contracts. My second reason is Marvel plainly just makes better
movies than DC. Now I realize that sometimes Marvel s CGI could be lot better like in Captain
America Civil War but it was nonetheless still a good movie. DC has only made like 5 live
action CGI movies and 3 of those completely sucked. Wonder Woman was good and Suicide
Squad was alright but the rest are just complete garbage. Now Marvel has over 15 movies and
all of them are amazing Guardians Of The Galaxy blew my mind And I didn t even know who
they were at the time.My third reason is Marvel actually knows what to do with their characters.
Now don t get me wrong DC can do some good things with their characters. Like how they did
Batman and the Flash but that s about it. Now Marvel on the other hand is working there
characters like I work my Xbox One like magic. Marvel has taken something people couldn t even
imagine being in movie and weaved into candy for my eyes.I have a lot more reasons why Marvel
is the best but if I kept going you d be reading until

Analysis Of Interstellar
Interstellar (2014), directed by Christopher Nolan and co written by Jonathan Nolan, is an epic
science fiction film that depicts extreme measures that one would pursue for love. The film
questions how far a man is willing to go in order to achieve safety for his family. Cooper
(Matthew McConaughey) exemplifies that without a proper plan, he is still willing to push his
own limits. Interstellar depicts the theme of a father s love through the music score, the plot
structure, the dialogue, the dynamic between man and machine, the setting, and the symbolism.
Hans Zimmer s unique music score in Interstellar brings out the intensity and drama to the
playing field and allows the audience to grip what Cooper actually does for his daughter Murph
(Mackenzie Foy). Some of Hans Zimmer s most important songs in Interstellar are Coward and
No Time for Caution. The emotional base for the song Coward is the cold and empty space of the
whole universe. This song portrays how scary and intense leaving planet Earthis, and Cooper s raw
love for his children for whom he did this whole mission for. Coward is introduced in the scenes
involving Dr. Mann (Matt Damon). Mann is viewed as a surprising enemy in Cooper s eyes after
he intentionally cracks his space helmet. As Cooper is grasping for air to survive, his willingness
to survive for his daughter allowed him to escape the situation with the help of Dr. Brand (Anne
Hathaway) and other scientists. Flashbacks between Cooper and

17th Century Literature Throughout Europe
14th Century Literature in Europe The 14th century consisted of many different events, which then
lead to a rise in literary movements and influential writers. The writers and poets of medieval
Europe created their own tropes and themes throughout the entire history of the century. 14th
century literature is greatly impacted by many factors: historical, religious, aesthetic. The 14th
century also contained a mass of literary movements, often times coexisting with the
aforementioned factors. Historical Events and Context Peasants Revolt The Peasants Revolt was
an aftermath of the Black Death, which also greatly influenced literature and arts throughout its
course. The Peasants Revolt year 1381 significantly altered literature during the course of the
14th century. The Peasants Revolt was unique in its significance because what is considered
modern day England was the only medieval society to have a peasants revolt (Swain). Naturally,
such a huge uprising brings influence with it. Besides the Bubonic Plague, another reason for the
Peasants Revolt occurred due an expanding middle class, which then in turn took land away from
Nobles. This land crisis caused the Nobility to have an upset, and they enacted a law to stop the
Peasant Class from having social mobility. Like most societal uprising, money was a huge factor.
This new law included a poll tax, which heavily taxed the lower class. Unfortunately, the Nobles
made an error and based the tax on the population before

Pontius Pilate Influence On Jesus Plate
Pontius Pilate was a Roman governor who overlooked Judea. To me, he was made out to seem
like a weak leader in the gospels, however in all actuality, he was a harsh and strong governor. He
could arguably be considered the single man who changed history as we know it. The gospels do
not explain much about Pilate and his background. The only time he was really introduced was
during the trial of Jesus. He was acknowledged a few times to show he was the one who followed
through with the crucifixion, and then he ceased to be brought back up again. However, the book
Pontius Pilateby Paul L. Maier thoroughly and adequately illustrates Pilate s life before and after
the life changing verdict. This was a fascinating read that really captivated my interest. It was long
and at times hard to follow, but I was extremely intrigued with the eccentric details that Maier
provided.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I never understood how serious the division was but Pontius Pilate helped inform me of the
magnitude. There was serious tension since Pilate was governor over Jews and that ultimately
affected his decisions. He went so far as to use Jesus being on trial as a way to manipulate the
Jews to admit they had no king but Caeser. This was a confidence booster for Pilate because it
reaffirmed his authority of Rome. Not surprisingly, he didn t stop there. Pilate made sure the
Jews felt guilty about the crucifixion. It was said that Pilate washed his hands clean of Jesus
blood. After, the Jews replied by saying, His blood be on us and on our children (238). Pilate
operated the whole production so the blame would be focused on the Jews and not him. I was
very shocked to see such evil works from a man. I didn t know how intense the rivalry between
the Jews and Gentiles were, but it was clearly big enough for Pilate to influence a trial, Jesus trial,
for his own selfish,

Homecoming Poem
Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth and Bruce Dawe s Homecoming are thematically
connected poems which explore the futility of war and the treatment of deceased combatants. Both
Owen and Dawe served in the military and were controversial condemners in all that they penned on
World War One and the Vietnam War respectively. Despite this, these texts do not explicitly state
these views, but rather evoke the sympathy of the audience utilising subtle poetic techniques
including contrast, flesh imagery and deathimagery.
Contrast is one of the most apparent devices within Homecoming and Anthem for Doomed Youth
and is used to create a pervading sense of war s irony. The very title of Dawe s poem,
Homecoming , has the positive connotations of family reunion but ... Show more content on

This quotation is heavy with religious imagery of the passage to heaven, impressed upon the reader
by the purposeful placement of commas. Throughout history religion has been misused as
justification of the military institution, and Dawe considers the contradictory nature of these
ideologies; one preaching peace and the other incentivising the indiscriminate killing of one s
neighbour. These shadows, however, do not simply pass over untouched land but the countryside
they have scarred; metaphorically envisioned as steaming chow mein and likened to Australia s
knuckled hills and desert emptiness . The irony of this poem truly peaks when in spite of all his
condemnation, Dawe momentarily admires the mash, the splendour of war, emphasising its eternal
allure. Anthem for Doomed Youth shares this ironic contrast, comparing traditional funeral rites to
war. From the opening stanza the audience is immersed in cacophony of battle, with Owen utilising
the alliteration of rifles rapid rattle to emulate the sound produced by the monstrous anger of guns .

even, people from all over the world. A 26 year old student at Umpqua Community College of
Roseburg, Oregon, Christopher Sean Harper Mercer, opened fire in a classroom and gunned down
nine people (students and a teacher) and injured nine others. A survivor from that incident,
Anastasia Boylan, told the news that the shooter singled out the Christians in the classroom and
that before shooting the students he asked them about their religion and told the Christian students
that they would be meeting God in a minute. Then, he shot them. During the investigation, the

Preventing Violence in the Workplace
Violence in the workplace is a growing trend among American businesses that needs the prompt
attention of individuals, governments, and corporations alike. In fact it is so serious that violence
in the workplace in recent years has grown to be the second leading cause of death in the
workplace (Baron, Hoffman, Merrill, 2000). Responding to this epidemic will take a tailored
dynamic approach that must be embraced by employees and management alike. First, we must
understand exactly what constitutes workplace violenceand understand some common triggers from
past cases. Second, employees and managers must know and understand what signs they must be
aware of that could escalate into workplace violence through effective and recurring... Show more

Unfortunately, these employees had not been briefed in symptom recognition of potentially violent
behavior, nor given instructions on how to report such information (Mattman, 2001). Several of
these key behaviors include, but are not limited to: drug/alcohol abuse, depression, increased
absenteeism, threats or verbal abuse, signs of mental illness, paranoia, projecting their problems
onto others namely management. If most companies took a proactive stance at mitigating
workplace violence there could be a significant reduction in the occurrences of these events.
Preventing workplace violence has to be executed around a dynamic approach in which multiple
factors are combined to place workers in a safe working environment. The first and most
comprehensive tool that every organization should have is a workplace violence policy. An
effective workplace violence policy has two main focal points. First, good policies provide clear
guidelines for expected behavior, definitions of unacceptable behavior, and outline the penalties for
violating the policy (Baron, Hoffman, Merrill, 2000). This is imperative and must be
communicated constantly to all employees. An employee s initial immersion into the policy should
occur before they begin to work for the job they were hired to do. Every organization s

Scientific Management And Human Relations Theory
Scientific management is a management theory developed by Frederick W Taylor. Its main purpose
is to improve an organization s efficiency in production through analyzing workflow systematically
using quantitative analysis to improve task completion efficiency. Reducing waste, increasing
methods of production and create a just distribution of goods are goals of the scientific management
theory. On the other hand, human relations theory attributed by Elton Mayo counteracts with
scientific managementtheory that ignored human issues of behavior. In human relations theory, a
worker is treated as an individual and what motivates and cultivates them in their achievement is
analyzed. Both scientific management and human relation theory aims to improve efficiency in the
workplace and it still applies to the workforce in the modern days despite the opposing ideas of
both theories.
The scientific management theory have an assumption that workers are lazy, not smart in
analyzing tasks, only prefers simplified work and only works for money (Miller Form, 1964).
According to Taylor (2004), workers are unable figure out the most efficient way in doing work.
Therefore, they are thought as replaceable working parts like a machine in the production line and
can be trained to specialize in a certain procedure in the production. They are assumed to adopt the
Protestant work ethic, working for long hours and not taking any breaks. Whenever a worker or a
part failed to perform its tasks, they

Examples Of Dystopian Society In Fahrenheit 451
The perfect Utopian society is when everyone is equal. But is everyone truly equal? In the book
Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, shows how quickly a society can go from Utopia to Dystopia.
The novel states how families are truly disconnected and how the society shows and hides their
feelings. Is our society like this? First of all in the book Fahrenheit 451, families aren t always there
for each other and seem to be disconnected. For example, Go home and think of your first
husband divorced and your second husband killed in a jet and your third husband blowing his

Similarities Between Porphyria s Lover And Do Not Go...
Author s use their writing to discuss death in different ways. Robert Browning s poem Porphyria
s Lover has few similarities with Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night by Dylan Thomas. These
authors have drastic differences when talking about death. Browning discusses how killing is a
power play in a poem about ... and Thomas talks about the transience of life in a poem about
fighting death. In one of Robert Brownings most unsettling dramatic monologues, Porphyria s
Lover, Browning tells a story of a man killing his lover in order to preserve her love for him. When
the poem opens, the speaker is describing the chaotic weather outside. To establish the mood, he
keeps this in iambic tetrameter. Browning uses iambic tetrameter throughout... Show more content

In Porphyria s Lover the main theme is power. Browning leaves us clues about the theme
throughout the poem. To start with, when the speaker is describing the weather outside It tore
the elm tops down for spite, suggests how powerful the storm is. The whole poem the speaker is
fighting for power against Porphyria. At first he lets her keep all the power, but when she is not
expecting it, he kills her to gain full power over her. The speaker reduces Porphyria to an object,
a corpse that he could manipulate. Though in Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night the main
themes are mortality and transience. Thomas knows that death is inevitable but he wants his
father and all the elderly that are, close to death to fight it off for as long as possible. Thomas
conveys the theme of transience by comparing how good men s lives are flying by. Thomas
says, Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright / Their frail deeds might have danced in a
green bay, good men s lives are passing away easily. All of their accomplishments will die out and
everything they were going to accomplish does not have a chance to

The Catalyst Behind The American Revolution
The American Revolution was more of a war for independence than an actual revolution. No
centuries old social orders were toppled like in the French Revolution. The catalyst behind the
American Revolution was the effect that certain English acts of legislation were having on the
American elite. For example, contrary to popular thought, the Tea Act actually lowered the price of
legitimately imported British tea which as a result became more popular than smuggled tea. The
Stamp Act also affected the American elite and had a negligible effect on the rest of Americans.
While the elite benefitted from independence, the rest of America was actually worse off
immediately following the Revolution. The Articles of Confederation set up a very weak

Creating Bigger Space For A Smaller Space
Creating bigger space in a smaller space. Extensions varied from project in a huge scale, such as
the Great Court in British Museum, to a single one storey housing extension. As the population
grows while land not shrinking, it certainly raises concerns from the experts in the field of
architecture. We need more space. As we all know technologies are getting better and better every
year, we now have some more innovative buildings than before, but it is always good to have
conserve the old buildings. In this case, that s when extension architecturecan serve its purpose. The
Great Court in British Museumoriginally designed by Robert Smirke for example, was once a
garden. Later on it has turned in to a reading room before they relocated it to the new British
library in 1997. With over five million visitors annually, British Museum leads visitors to
disorientation and confusion before extensions. Foster + Partner built the extension with three aims,
revealing hidden spaces, revising old spaces, and creating new spaces. In this case, extensions are
crucially influential for this type of architecture, and it has effect how people behave within the
building. Before construction, this space serves as an open, or rather empty space. After the
extension, this space serves as a centralized circulation to direct visitors flow and clarify the
footprint of the building itself. Extension has made a space that has not been smartly used into an

Judith Jarvison Thomson On Abortion
In this paper I will discus and examine Judith Jarvis Thomson s view upon abortion as stated in
her argument A Defense of Abortion . I will explain her view on the issue and look deeper into her
supporting arguments she included in her essay. I will also explain whether I agree with her
statements. I would also discuss whether the person can agree with my statements and reason why
having an abortionmake you in moral.
In her opening statement she first starts of stating a fetus is consider to be a human being or a
person from the moment of conception. They have the right to life just like any other person does.
In lines 1 10 Most opposition to abortion relies on the premise that the fetus is a human being, a
person, from the moment of conception. ( Thomson, Judith Jarvis. A Defense of Abortion. Judith
Jarvis Thomson: A Defense of Abortion, Oct. 1991,spot.colorado.edu/~heathwoo/Phil160,Fall02

human being or an adult, to what makes us a human being or an adult. In her first example she
talks about an acorn falling from an oak tree automatically being consider to be an oak tree or to
be still labeled as an acorn. In lines 10 14 Similar things might be said about the development of
an acorn into an oak trees, and it does not follow that acorns are oak trees, or that we had better say
they are. ( Thomson, Judith Jarvis. A Defense of Abortion. Judith Jarvis Thomson: A Defense of

Enterprise Risk Management ( Erm )
Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is the ability to identify, manage and/or mitigate risks that
can affect the overall business operations down to the day to day operations of an organization
(Hampton, J., 2009). The overall Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) entails the utilization of a
holistic model to identify risks that face an organization. ERM is not successful when it is
managed in silos. Doing so could lead to the organization not having a clear understanding of risks
and a misunderstanding of their riskappetite. There are many important components involved in
the overall ERM process. Therefore, ERM can be implemented through creating a risk aware
culture, the implementation of the Risk Focused Allocation Framework (RFRAF) and an
operations review which creates and implements a risk strategy for an organization. The overall
framework of ERM is dependent on a risk aware culture. A strong culture is one in which
decisions are made in a disciplined way, taking into account considerations of risk and reward on
an informed basis (Fraser, 2010, pg. 87). Each organization is different and the structure of how it
is run, what is important, and what is expected are all different. The definition of risk is the
potential to lose something worth value (Risk, 2014). The culture at an organization must be aware
of the risk appetite, allowing managers and other employees to make informed decisions based on
the amount of risks the organization is willing to take. Having a

These connections enable corporations to keep and maintain good relationship with partners,

American History X Essay examples
American History X
American History X is clearly a film dealing with the social topic of racism. The interesting thing
about this film is the way in which the subject is presented. First of all, it is obvious that, though
racism is always a difficult subject to deal with, American History X presents it without any
reservations or dummying down. Second, the film s figurehead for racism, Derek Vinyard
(Edward Norton), is not an unintelligent redneck racist as films often portray them, but is in fact
well spoken, charismatic and bright, although he clearly holds ideals that are terribly wrong.
Finally, the film shows that it is not only the white, neo nazi racists who are fools for being

The film also did a very good job in the way they tie racial issues in with the portrayal of Derek s
character as a strong and bold leader. The things that make Derek such a powerful and frightening
character is not the fact that he is racist, it is the fact that instead of choosing a somewhat regular,
backwoods, unintelligent racist as the films central character, Derek is well spoken and bright. It is
these qualities that allow him to recruit the youths of Venice Beach and form, with the help of his

causing Americans to suffer a poor standard of living. He tells them America needs to take care

Sex is for pleasure and for fun. We all have our kinky fantasies that we may or may not seek out.
Sadism and masochism can arguably be considered something that is just for fun and a way of
pleasing themselves but it is not what normally pleases the majority of people. It is a form of
sexual arousal by being punished or punishing another person in ways that cause pain, suffering,

Airport Security After September 11, 2001

Cadbury has unfortunately seen lack of penetration in the rural market where people tend to
dismiss it as a high end product, as the prices do range between standard and premium, never any
less. The reason for high prices is due some of the cocoa, a major ingredient, having to be imported,
resulting in several charges and a higher inventory. The company must also find solutions to natural
conditions, for example, heat. The majority of the markets in India are not air conditioned, hence
cannot store chocolates, at least during hot summers, which limits market access.
Industrial Production
Cadbury, beside many other companies, supply the local market through its local production units.
Cadbury India manages to practice this through five factories, located in Thane, Pune, Induri and
Malanpur in West India, and Baddi in North India. Cocoa, being a major raw material as discussed,

Symbolism Of Vampirism In Dracula
We can also see how the Victorian Society also helps create the story, how it is wrote and how it
influences Dracula so much. Vampirism is just a polite way Stoker has made to secretly talk about
sex since anything that brought a blush to your cheeks was forbidden during the Victorian era. For
example, when Lucy first gets bitten while sleepwalking There was undoubtedly something, long
and black, bending over the half reclining white figure (Dracula98). Lucy gets bitten by Dracula
and she is already talking with three other men, ends up marrying one, this is in no way the ideal
Victorian woman. Not only is she not an ideal Victorian woman, but to add on to the list of why
she is not The vampiric tradition of blood sucking is symbolic of the exchange of bodily fluids
during sex. For Stoker, writing in the sexually repressed Victorian age, vampirism is a
convenient metaphor for sex and the closest he could get to writing about sex in a respectable
novel (NovelGuide). As we all know she has many exchanges of bodily fluids, not only the
blood sucking of Dracula, but in fact blood transfusions from all three men as they vowed to

Niche marketing refers to the submarket where specific products are marketed. More specifically
niche marketing refers to narrow market segment where products with special offering survives.
Niche marketing basically works with a concept of `Big fish in small pond. ` By targeting a niche

Procter Gamble, Rolex watches, Nike, Roll Royce are some of the renowned firms which opt niche

Limitations in Niche Marketing:
One of the limitations of niche marketing is that this market strategy is not suitable for long term
business because of the fact that niche does not offer sufficient business. In case if one`s business
has to rely on selling large quantity or large number of products then niche marketing is not a place

If the niche market is invaded by large firms then it will be very difficult for small or medium

Media Is A Political Issue That Has Greatly Affected...
A political issue that has greatly affected politics as well as the system of electing a president is
the media. The media is a very important topic when discussing politics for a variety of reasons.
The media includes television, radio, internet and social media sites such as Instagram and twitter.
All of these forms of media are very influential and they reach a wide variety of the population.
The amount of people that can be informed or influenced by these different forms of media is
enormous. Because the media is easily accessible and highly influential it can be both beneficial
and detrimental. This is important for many public figures, but it is also very important in regards
to politics. Information that is broadcasted through the many different forms of media can cause
a lot of issues when dealing with politics as well as many other areas. This essay defends the
thesis that there are a plethora of reasons the media is a political issue that has increased in the last
fifty years the three primary reasons are the amount of people that can be influenced, the type of
information that can be broadcasted and lastly the effects media can have on a political campaignor

in the society. But it was determined by the financial prosperity of the individuals. Love was
associated with wealth in order to ensure family security and happiness. It is lucidly depicted in
the play in the form of the love between Mirabel and Millamant as the best instance and even

the characters in Congreve s play. At the same time, the existence of greed is unveiled in the
form of Fainall s desire to have all of Wishfort s fortune or as much as he can rip off. William
Congreve shows a more prominent connection between familial and romantic love and the desire
for money as a means of financial security to married couples. This is indispensably concerned
for it suggests that the sentiment of love alone is not enough to construct a romantic relationship

How Do Diaspora Media Help Construct Meanings of Community...
As a result of the western colonizing movement of the 19th century, a massive diasporic movement
of people across boundaries formed a unique group. This ongoing process of population movement
and mass exodus, as well as the effects it caused drew attention to the academic world at both
cultural and political levels. However, unlike the original residents, this diasporic shift demonstrated
distinctive traits such as identity and an ideology which evidently differed from those of the
natives. As Sreberny (2000. P179) argued: Diaspora has become a key term in theorizing about
immigration, ethnicity and identity and exerted a considerable influence historically, culturally,
socially and economically on developed capitalist societies.... Show more content on

Diaspora media, especially electronic media, with its facility of connection between locations,
has successfully managed to improve the quality and speed of communication, as well as to
shape its identity in local, national and transnational levels within a modern social context. Direct
audio and visual experience allows audiences to get together and exchange opinions over a
variety of topics such as languages, fashion, lifestyle, political viewpoints. This daily regular
activity of sharing the same media has made people subconsciously advance the sense of
belonging in a common unity (Anderson, 1983). From our living experiences, it is not hard to
find out that there are so many resources of information to choose from, which means our world
has been filled with media, and the diasporic space is no exception. Through all these media,
people encode and decode information, accept and reject ideas, and (re)define (new) meanings of
culture, community and identity. Electronic media shorten the distance between locations and
helped dispersed people to share the culture of the same root, allow comparison, (re)construction of
symbols, present and mediate meanings of Diasporas, localities, communities and identities.
Therefore, in media cultures social interaction and relations are no longer dependent on
simultaneous spatial co presence (Lull, 2000. P97). Instead, they use symbols and direct visuality
to carry the latter day communal memories and offer new schedules for

Should Video Gamers Be Prosecuted for Virtual Theft

Paper 1
Prosecution in the Virtual World
Many online gamers will pay for virtual items with real money. Some people want laws in effect
for the real world to protect their rights to their belongings. Theft in the virtual world occurs quite
often. In an article titled, Should Gamers be Prosecuted for Virtual Stealing? the author Alex Weiss
calls out a young teenage boy who is being prosecuted for stealing in a video game. It seems to be a
legal blunder that is very straight forward, but becomes a heated debate. It begins with the
argument should we prosecute a gamer for stealing via the virtual world? Alex Weiss is correct in
saying that prosecution for virtual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this were to become legal, it would someday bring people to sue their co worker for too much
talking or some other non existent crime. If some choose to spend their time unproductively, would
they not expect to be compensated for such types of loses?
While some people see turning to the law for in game crimes, they fail to realize that video games
have their own ways of punishment, so the actual physical prosecution should not be necessary.
Weiss observes how games like World of Warcraft will strictly punish their gamers for theft,
scamming, and vulgar language. He says, Violators can be banned and victims lost goods are
refunded. Weiss then goes on to point out how in
EVE will actually encourage players to have a behavior of piracy to give them a sense of pride.
(729) There are many different games with different styles of engagement and how the game is to
be played. To have a universal punishment for these crimes seems unfair and unfit. In spirit video
gamers build their video games from the start of nothing, laying out the rules and all the abilities of
the game. The chances of being able to steal in the virtual world without hacking is nearly
impossible.
Physical prosecution for virtual theft may be providing justice for the theft committed yet
providing injustice on a law abiding citizen. Video games make it very easy to steal in, so what
will happen when a non criminal citizen takes the opportunity to do so

President Obama Hated On Friday Essay
President Obama hated on Friday what he called a Republican (series of actions to reach a goal) to
deny voting rights to millions of Americans as he stepped up efforts to motivate and excite his
political base heading into a competitive midterm campaign season.
Appearing at the once a year convention of the Rev. Al Sharptons National Action Network in
Manhattan, Mr. Obama (charged with a crime) Republicans of trying to rig the elections by making
it harder for older people, women, minorities and the make extremely poored to cast ballots in
swing states that could decide/figure out control of the Senate.
The right to vote is threatened today in a way that it has not been since the Voting Rights Act
became law nearly fifty years ago, Mr. Obama said in a hotel large room (for dancing) filled with
cheering supporters, most of them African American. Across the country, Republicans have led
efforts to pass laws making it harder, not easier, for people to vote.
Speaking a day after a (meeting to discuss things/meeting together) in Texas remembering (with
honor) the 50th (yearly recognition or celebration) of the Civil Rights Act, Mr. Obama linked the
issue to the movement that helped pave the way for him to become the nation s first black president.
America did not stand up and did not march and did not sacrifice to gain the right to vote for
themselves and for others only to see it denied to their kids and their (children of children), he said.

Autonomy is the concept of the patient having control over his or her own body ( Saint Joseph s

decisions. The front line staff will need to be aware of the cost benefit to different treatment plans
and involve the patient in the plan as a partner and not just a patient. Moreover, documenting the
discussion and decisions will prevent the appearance of fraudulent practices (Anderson Sandoff,
1999). The DNP FNP nurse leader provides education and oversight aimed at compliance and best

Introduction to Ultrasonic Distance Meter
ULTRA SONIC DISTANCE METER. Introduction to Ultrasonic Distance Meter The project
Ultrasonic Distance Meter is a very interesting and useful project for many industrial applications.
In this project we have used the ultrasonic waves to measure the distance in between two points.
The basic principal is based on the speed of ultrasonic waves in open air. We have used a
microcontroller AT89S51 to transmit and receive ultrasonic waves through 40 KHz ultrasonic
receiver and transmitters. By measuring the time required to travel the unknown distance by
ultrasonic waves in air we can find out the distance between two points. The distance measured is
displayed on a LCD display. The transmission reception of ultrasonic waves is very... Show more

Hierarchical Bone
Hierarchical architecture and mechanical properties of the various constituents of the bone are
important to understand the origin of toughness and stiffness and their alterations with age and
disease.
3.1. Macrostructure: cortical and cancellous bone
At the macrostructural level, bone is divided into the cortical (or compact) and cancellous (or
trabecular) types based upon their degree of porosity or density. Histologically, it is composed of a
cortical bone wrapped around older cancellous bone having irregular, sinuous convolutions of
lamellae. It is still not clear whether cortical and cancellous bone matrices consist of the same
material or have intrinsically different mechanical properties. Based upon the nanoindentation
studies, on an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, cancellous bone material being much more active metabolically, is remodelled more
often than cortical bone, and hence, it is younger usually than cortical bone. Based upon the
mechanical measurements at the macroscale, cancellous bone tissue were found to have slightly
lower values of moduli as compared to the cortical bone. Cancellous bone, can be described in
terms of structural as the extrinsic properties of trabeculae and pores. The description of
cancellous bone in terms of material properties defines the trabecular struts and plates. Mechanical
properties of both cortical as well as cancellous bone at the macrostructural level usually vary from
bone to bone and within different regions of the same bone due to variation in mineralization level
and apparent density values.

The Marshmallow Experiment In The 1960s And The 1970s
Damian Becker
The Marshmallow Experiment
Stanford conducted the Marshmallow Experiment in the 1960s and the 1970s. This study was
meant to find out if children have the ability to delay gratification so the used kids ages four
through six in their study. The kids were led into a empty room and was offered a marshmallow.
The kids were then told that if they can wait 15 minutes before eating the marshmallow that they
could have another marshmallow. There was 600 kids that was in this experiment and some ate
the marshmallow instantly while others looked away to be able to wait long enough. Later in 1988
a follow up study showed that the kids that could delay gratification were more successful after 10
years that the kids that could not delay gratification. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Brian Tracy the reason she had less motivation and bad habits is because she had a constant
need for gratification. Over the years she was able to make good habits and reach her long term
goals. She did this by fixing the environment around her like getting rid of things that makes you
feel frustrated and get more things that help you delay gratification. She started to think about
long term goals and she started to read blogs to help her stay motivated. Also she read books
about what she wanted to do in life. Another thing you could do is ask friends and family who are
good at delaying gratification to see if they have any ideas. Finally you need to make sure you use

The Importance Of SIDS
According to a 2013 article in Pediatric Health Medicine, and Therapeutics, by Dr. Tara Ramirez
and Dr. Micheal Malloy, when SIDS was first defined, it was used as a catch all for any
unexplainable infant deaths. As the medical field advanced and more research was conducted
lots of deaths where able to be diagnosed as infection, trauma, or connected to conditions related
to the heart, lungs, or central nervous system. .As studies have been conducted to try and find
the cause it has been determined that SIDS isn t any one illness or disease. Instead it s the
diagnosis given when a child under a year old dies suddenly and an exact cause can t be found
after an investigation of the death scene, autopsy, and a review of the child s medical history have
been conducted. What makes so devastating for families is that it happens without warning, and

It has been found that any sleep position besides supine (on the back) increases the chances of
SIDS, whether it is on the stomach or on the side. (Oyen, 614) The rate of deaths from SIDS has
dropped about 50 percent since 1994, this is when the National Institute of Child Health and
Human Development and associated groups started the Back to Sleep campaign. A baby s risk
of SIDS has been found to be 1.7 to 12.9 times higher if a baby sleeps on their stomach instead of
their back. When a baby sleeps stomach down, their more likely to overheat, have inconsistency
in breathing, and rebreathe the air they have just exhaled, that lacks oxygen. Placing a baby to
sleep on their side is a bad idea also, since babies placed on their side can easily end up on their
stomach. By the time a baby is 6 months old they are able to roll themselves over, at this age
their risk for SIDS has begun to drop. Though it is recommended to do your best to get them
settled on their back, don t worry if the baby rolls

Management By Objectives Of Management
6. Management by Objectives
Since the early 1950 s, management by objectives has been a management principle or theory that
has been practice within both private and public sector corporations. It was first publicized by the
management expert Peter Drucker in 1954. Starbuck (2012) identified management by objectives as
Drucker s primary sources and contribution to his book The Practice of Management following the
developments of his ideas in his earlier books such as The Future of Industrial Man and Concept of
the Corporation which were published in 1942 and 1946 respectively. Subsequently, management
by objectives has gained an increasing publicity and largely influenced many industrial
organisations like Fords and General Motors amongst many others as shown in Peter Starbuck s
case studies (Starbuck, 2012:99) and is currently a taught topic within the academic curriculum for
areas such as management and administration. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Effects Of Osteoporosis On The Bone Disease
The Effects of Osteoporosis Osteoporosis is a bone disease that occurs when the body loses too
much bone, too little bone, or both. Because of this, bones become weak and may break from a
fall, or worse, break from sneezing or minor bumps (National Osteoporosis Foundation).
Osteoporosis means porous bone . A healthy bone under a microscope looks like a honeycomb,
when osteoporosisis taking place, the holes and spaces in the honeycomb are much larger than in
the healthy bone. Bones that are osteoporotic have lost density, and contain abnormal tissue
structure. When bones lose this density, they weaken and are more likely to break. Osteoporosis
is often called a silent disease because one can t feel bones weakening. Breaking a bone is... Show

Smoking can lead to lower bone density, and higher risk of fracture, and this risk increases with
age. Over four units of alcohol a day can double the risk of a hip fracture. The risk of vertebral
and hip fractures in men increases greatly with heavy alcohol intake, particularly with long term
intake. Low body weight and weight loss is associated with greater bone loss and increased risk
of fracture. Some young females, particularly those training for elite athletic competitions,
exercise too much, eat too little, and consequently experience amenorrhea, which makes them at
risk for low bone mass and fractures. Middle aged and older men and women with annual height
loss 0.5 cm is at an increased risk of hip and any other fractures. Falls contribute to fractures
ninety percent of hip fractures result from falls. A third of people over age sixty five fall annually,
with approximately ten to fifteen percent of falls in the elderly resulting in fractures. Almost sixty

  • 3. The Tortula Curtain Analysis With immigration a hot topic in modern media, novels like T.C. Boyle s The Tortilla Curtain are helpful texts for discussion. The Tortilla Curtain is a satiric approach to addressing the immigration problem of the United States, as well as addressing the racism and xenophobia perpetuated by white Americans living close to the border with Mexico. The novel revolves around two contrasting couples: white liberals Delaney and Kyra Mossbacher, who lead cushy lives of ignorance and luxury in the Arroyo Blanco Estates, and Mexican immigrants CГЎndido and AmГ©rica RincГіn, who live in the actual canyon of Topanga Canyon and struggle to even put food on the table. As the story progresses and the parallels between these two couples lives become clear,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He recycles, he hikes, and he writes a column for Wide Open Spaces called Pilgrim at Topanga Creek, in which he details his adventures and even advocates for change. His advocacy grows closer to home, however, as the prevalence of both coyotes and Mexican immigrants overwhelms him and the rest of the inhabitants of Arroyo Blanco Estates. Originally very liberal, Delaney s morals are transformed dramatically by the end of the novel, shifting from idealistic liberalism to gritty conservatism. In The Tortilla Curtain, the coyotes are a symbol for immigrants and white fragility, jumping their fences and stealing their handouts. They represent the caricature with which Arroyo Blanco residents associate immigrants: violent, unpredictable, and wild, tricksters who roam the earth and find resources where there are none. As the novel progresses, Delaney s antipathy against coyotes corresponds to his waning sympathy for Mexican ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Present Themes In The First Day By Edward P. Jones American actress and model, Kristen Stewart, once said, Judging a person does not define who they are. It defines who you are. Kristen Stewart (A Z Quotes). People judge others every single day. Silent eyes beat down on people and negative thoughts seeping into hearts. Everyone does it, but some just are clueless about the impact. This judgmentis present in Edward P. JonesThe First Day, where a little girl comes to realize that people are judging her and her mother for being who they are, and determining what they are like based on their status. In Jones short story The First Day, the present theme is that a person s status determines how a person is viewed, liked, and how economically stable they are. This focus is present through the imagery of the little girl and the characterization of the mother. One way Jones shows the theme that a person s status determines how a person is viewed, liked, and how economically stable they are, is through the imagery of the little girl. It is an African American girl s first day of school, and the mother is getting her all dolled up to make a good impression. I am wearing a checkeredlike blue and green cotton dress, and scattered about these colors are bits of yellow and white and brown. My mother has uncharacteristically spent nearly an hour on my hair that morning, plaiting and replaiting so that now my scalp tingles (Jones 1). The mother really wants to make a good impression on the new school that her daughter is going to, and not look poor or different. When saying that the mother has uncharacteristically done her hair, the mother is going out of her way to do something special. The mother has spent an hour on this girl s hair for her very first day of school, which is not like herself. Thus showing, that the mother really cares about the first impression that the daughter makes at her new school and community, and how they are viewed with their status. The mother is changing the image of her daughter to try and better her off. Ultimately, through imagery, the highlighted theme is that people are judged based on their statuses. The mother in the story also proves that people are judging. Through the use of characterization by Edward P Jones The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Nannette Burstein American Teen AMERICAN TEEN: A documentary filled with scripted spontaneity and a slight insight to reality explores the stereotypical lives of five high school seniors. Kaylee O Dwyer talks about the truth behind this popular film, American Teen. American Teen, directed by Nanette Burstein, is a documentary film set in a small town in Indiana. The film follows the lives of five high school teenagers through their final year of high school in a way that hasn t been perceived since The Breakfast Club . The film over exaggerates the problems, demands and complications the modern generations are facing today by combining candid footage with false, staged events. The goal is less to provide a slice of reality than it is to estimate a fictionalized version of that reality through the inclusion of re enactments, dramatisations, voice overs and other techniques, deceiving viewers into believing that what they re seeing is actually real. The film follows the five seniors from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are without a doubt numerous scenes in the film that are obviously staged or recreated for reasons such as in situations which the camera man wasn t present, to improve the film, errors in the recordings or errors in the sound. Viewers have doubted the authenticity of the film but Burstein continues to defend her film as an accurate, non manipulated insight of teenage life. The scene of Megan sending around Erica s picture to the whole school captures the replies and comments all the students were making. Also in the scene where Hannah s boyfriend breaks up with her by text captures his message perfectly to Hannah. • 7. The Possibility Of Evil Analysis We all like to look at things that appeal our preferences. But sometimes, appearances can deceive us, such as a good deal you may see. One common example would be online shopping. The price that is offered upfront is very appealing, all until it comes down to the final cost after including shipping and handling, taxes, or any other unmentioned expenses. Or maybe a movie that has an interesting trailer, but the actual film as a whole was not as good as it appeared to be. Instead of judging at first glance, one should first investigate and then make a decision after their analysis. The main characters in the short stories Lamb to the Slaughter , by Roald Dahland, The Possibility of Evil , by Shirley Jackson, should have known this lesson. In Lamb to the Slaughter, Mary Maloney is a kind housewife this sweet who loves her husband dearly, but changes to a bitter and angry widow after her husband leaves her. In The Possibility of Evil, Miss Strangeworth appears to be a kind elderly lady, but behind close doors, she is the complete opposite. After reading both stories, the readers learn that even though something may appear one way, it can turn out to be something completely different than we expected. True colors are not always revealed at first sight. In The Possibility of Evil, Shirley Jackson gives us a character who seems to be the town s sweetest, most innocent, and is the longest established resident, but in reality is a nosy, dark woman with a destructive ... • 8. Analysis Of Blood On The Forge By William Attaway A Change of Culture Culture has the power of informing you of someone s identity. It is said that culture is the way of life a group of people follow, meaning their behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that identify them as where they came from, who they are, and who they can become. On the other hand, we know that culture is always changing and adapting to the lifestyleand advances of the present day. This can happen by the adaptation groups of people have suffered in order to achieve a better way of living other than the one they ve previously had. Examples of these changes can be seen with the Great Migration in the 1900s. A movement in which many African Americans moved to the North to work and settle in the steel mills in search of a better life. In Blood on the Forge by William Attaway, we are able to in fact prove that culture can change and adaptation plays a key role in our existence. The book portrays this change through the life and experiences of the Moss brothers and their lifestyle from Kentucky to Pennsylvania. With that of culture comes our identity through music. The death of the blues serves as an example in how culture is put up to the challenge of change. Melody, Chinatown, and Big Mat represent the loss of folk culture which accompanied the Great Migration of Black people from the rural South to the industrial North (Waldron 58). As we begin to read, we are able to interpret their lives and identity in the South through Melody s music. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Why Is Marvel Better Than Dc Comics Why I think Marvel Comics is better than DC Comics. I have many details to show you why I am 100 percent right on this. Now if you are a DC fan and reading this you can go read about whatever you want this is my opinion not yours. I don t care for DC comics at all they only have a few good characters and even they can be unbearable sometimes. Marvel on the other hand is the exact opposite of this Marvel has almost only great characters and a few bad ones.My first reason Marvel is better is because they have Spider Man. Spider Man in my opinion is in the top five of Marvel s best characters. DC knows this too so they tried to copy him and make him a villain in there own comic books. I realize that we quite plainly ripped off Deadpool from there own Deathstroke but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People like him so much that they rebooted him twice but that s probably because of Sony and Marvel s rocky character contracts. My second reason is Marvel plainly just makes better movies than DC. Now I realize that sometimes Marvel s CGI could be lot better like in Captain America Civil War but it was nonetheless still a good movie. DC has only made like 5 live action CGI movies and 3 of those completely sucked. Wonder Woman was good and Suicide Squad was alright but the rest are just complete garbage. Now Marvel has over 15 movies and all of them are amazing Guardians Of The Galaxy blew my mind And I didn t even know who they were at the time.My third reason is Marvel actually knows what to do with their characters. Now don t get me wrong DC can do some good things with their characters. Like how they did Batman and the Flash but that s about it. Now Marvel on the other hand is working there characters like I work my Xbox One like magic. Marvel has taken something people couldn t even imagine being in movie and weaved into candy for my eyes.I have a lot more reasons why Marvel is the best but if I kept going you d be reading until ... • 10. Analysis Of Interstellar Interstellar (2014), directed by Christopher Nolan and co written by Jonathan Nolan, is an epic science fiction film that depicts extreme measures that one would pursue for love. The film questions how far a man is willing to go in order to achieve safety for his family. Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) exemplifies that without a proper plan, he is still willing to push his own limits. Interstellar depicts the theme of a father s love through the music score, the plot structure, the dialogue, the dynamic between man and machine, the setting, and the symbolism. Hans Zimmer s unique music score in Interstellar brings out the intensity and drama to the playing field and allows the audience to grip what Cooper actually does for his daughter Murph (Mackenzie Foy). Some of Hans Zimmer s most important songs in Interstellar are Coward and No Time for Caution. The emotional base for the song Coward is the cold and empty space of the whole universe. This song portrays how scary and intense leaving planet Earthis, and Cooper s raw love for his children for whom he did this whole mission for. Coward is introduced in the scenes involving Dr. Mann (Matt Damon). Mann is viewed as a surprising enemy in Cooper s eyes after he intentionally cracks his space helmet. As Cooper is grasping for air to survive, his willingness to survive for his daughter allowed him to escape the situation with the help of Dr. Brand (Anne Hathaway) and other scientists. • 12. 17th Century Literature Throughout Europe 14th Century Literature in Europe The 14th century consisted of many different events, which then lead to a rise in literary movements and influential writers. The writers and poets of medieval Europe created their own tropes and themes throughout the entire history of the century. 14th century literature is greatly impacted by many factors: historical, religious, aesthetic. The 14th century also contained a mass of literary movements, often times coexisting with the aforementioned factors. Historical Events and Context Peasants Revolt The Peasants Revolt was an aftermath of the Black Death, which also greatly influenced literature and arts throughout its course. The Peasants Revolt year 1381 significantly altered literature during the course of the 14th century. The Peasants Revolt was unique in its significance because what is considered modern day England was the only medieval society to have a peasants revolt (Swain). Naturally, such a huge uprising brings influence with it. Besides the Bubonic Plague, another reason for the Peasants Revolt occurred due an expanding middle class, which then in turn took land away from Nobles. This land crisis caused the Nobility to have an upset, and they enacted a law to stop the Peasant Class from having social mobility. Like most societal uprising, money was a huge factor. This new law included a poll tax, which heavily taxed the lower class. Unfortunately, the Nobles made an error and based the tax on the population before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Pontius Pilate Influence On Jesus Plate Pontius Pilate was a Roman governor who overlooked Judea. To me, he was made out to seem like a weak leader in the gospels, however in all actuality, he was a harsh and strong governor. He could arguably be considered the single man who changed history as we know it. The gospels do not explain much about Pilate and his background. The only time he was really introduced was during the trial of Jesus. He was acknowledged a few times to show he was the one who followed through with the crucifixion, and then he ceased to be brought back up again. However, the book Pontius Pilateby Paul L. Maier thoroughly and adequately illustrates Pilate s life before and after the life changing verdict. This was a fascinating read that really captivated my interest. It was long and at times hard to follow, but I was extremely intrigued with the eccentric details that Maier provided.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I never understood how serious the division was but Pontius Pilate helped inform me of the magnitude. There was serious tension since Pilate was governor over Jews and that ultimately affected his decisions. He went so far as to use Jesus being on trial as a way to manipulate the Jews to admit they had no king but Caeser. This was a confidence booster for Pilate because it reaffirmed his authority of Rome. Not surprisingly, he didn t stop there. Pilate made sure the Jews felt guilty about the crucifixion. It was said that Pilate washed his hands clean of Jesus blood. After, the Jews replied by saying, His blood be on us and on our children (238). Pilate operated the whole production so the blame would be focused on the Jews and not him. I was very shocked to see such evil works from a man. I didn t know how intense the rivalry between the Jews and Gentiles were, but it was clearly big enough for Pilate to influence a trial, Jesus trial, for his own selfish, ... • 14. Homecoming Poem Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth and Bruce Dawe s Homecoming are thematically connected poems which explore the futility of war and the treatment of deceased combatants. Both Owen and Dawe served in the military and were controversial condemners in all that they penned on World War One and the Vietnam War respectively. Despite this, these texts do not explicitly state these views, but rather evoke the sympathy of the audience utilising subtle poetic techniques including contrast, flesh imagery and deathimagery. Contrast is one of the most apparent devices within Homecoming and Anthem for Doomed Youth and is used to create a pervading sense of war s irony. This quotation is heavy with religious imagery of the passage to heaven, impressed upon the reader by the purposeful placement of commas. Throughout history religion has been misused as justification of the military institution, and Dawe considers the contradictory nature of these ideologies; one preaching peace and the other incentivising the indiscriminate killing of one s neighbour. These shadows, however, do not simply pass over untouched land but the countryside they have scarred; metaphorically envisioned as steaming chow mein and likened to Australia s knuckled hills and desert emptiness . The irony of this poem truly peaks when in spite of all his condemnation, Dawe momentarily admires the mash, the splendour of war, emphasising its eternal allure. Enterprise Risk Management ( Erm ) Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is the ability to identify, manage and/or mitigate risks that can affect the overall business operations down to the day to day operations of an organization (Hampton, J., 2009). The overall Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) entails the utilization of a holistic model to identify risks that face an organization. ERM is not successful when it is managed in silos. Doing so could lead to the organization not having a clear understanding of risks and a misunderstanding of their riskappetite. There are many important components involved in the overall ERM process. Therefore, ERM can be implemented through creating a risk aware culture, the implementation of the Risk Focused Allocation Framework (RFRAF) and an operations review which creates and implements a risk strategy for an organization. The overall framework of ERM is dependent on a risk aware culture. A strong culture is one in which decisions are made in a disciplined way, taking into account considerations of risk and reward on an informed basis (Fraser, 2010, pg. 87). Each organization is different and the structure of how it is run, what is important, and what is expected are all different. The definition of risk is the potential to lose something worth value (Risk, 2014). The culture at an organization must be aware of the risk appetite, allowing managers and other employees to make informed decisions based on the amount of risks the organization is willing to take. As a result of the western colonizing movement of the 19th century, a massive diasporic movement of people across boundaries formed a unique group. This ongoing process of population movement and mass exodus, as well as the effects it caused drew attention to the academic world at both cultural and political levels. However, unlike the original residents, this diasporic shift demonstrated distinctive traits such as identity and an ideology which evidently differed from those of the natives. As Sreberny (2000. Diaspora media, especially electronic media, with its facility of connection between locations, has successfully managed to improve the quality and speed of communication, as well as to shape its identity in local, national and transnational levels within a modern social context. Direct audio and visual experience allows audiences to get together and exchange opinions over a variety of topics such as languages, fashion, lifestyle, political viewpoints. This daily regular activity of sharing the same media has made people subconsciously advance the sense of belonging in a common unity (Anderson, 1983). From our living experiences, it is not hard to find out that there are so many resources of information to choose from, which means our world has been filled with media, and the diasporic space is no exception. Through all these media, people encode and decode information, accept and reject ideas, and (re)define (new) meanings of culture, community and identity.
