Archetypal Symbols In The Patriot
The Patriot is a heart breaking movie that follows the journey of Benjamin Martin, a father of
seven children (Gabriel, Thomas, Margaret, Susan, Nathan, Samuel, and William) and an ex
warrior who fought against the Great Britain army while carrying the burden of a parent. It is filled
with clash of ideals, where Benjamin s priority to save his children from experiencing the war met
with the reality that his country needed him to act.
The story began with Benjamin s return to his hometown. The member of the family were
introduced one by one. It was also revealed that the situation between the Continental army and the
Great Britain government is getting more complicated each days, as the town s people were being
forced to choose side for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is a smart person. Benjamin Martin even considered him as genius. If not for his taking the
Continental army lightly, Benjamin may not have been able to lead the Continental army to
victory. He has the trait of the mad scientist.
And for the woman, we can categorized Charlotte Selton as the tomboy who has the appearance of
the madonna. She is reliable, as can be seen from her taking care of Benjamin s children during the
war.
With a lot of character, there are quite a number of conflicts happened inside the movie. The first
kind is the man against himself conflict. This kind of conflict can be seen from the argument
between Benjamin and Gabriel that resulted in Benjamin questioning his own resolves. Benjamin
also had the same kind of conflict when he was devastated by the death of Gabriel.
The second kind is the man against man conflict. Benjamin was having this kind of conflict with
Gabriel and also Tavington. He was having an argument about the humanity in the battlefield with
the former (when Gabriel s group found out about the innocents killing that Benjamin s group did).
Benjamin also fought against Tavington because the ideal differences that this two

Ufo In Mushiro Analysis
UFO in Kushiro by Haruki Murakami takes its start from the Kobe earthquake in 1995. There is
no doubt, that many people have got affected by what just happened, either directly or indirectly,
as of in case of a couple Komura and his wife. Komura lives far away from Kobe in Tokyo, and
has no danger to be feared of, except that his wife was acting weird past five days, watching news
without a break to eat, to drink, and bath. Komura seems to be invisible to her; she does not react
at all at his presence. Since there is not much he can do about it, Komura tries to live his life as if
nothing would happen. However, in sixth day his wife left the house with a note, stating that even
if he is handsome and good husband, living with him became unbearable, since he is just a chunk

tomorrow there could be an earthquake; you could be kidnapped by aliens; you could be eaten by
bear. Nobody knows what s going to happen. That is exactly what happened to him he was not
aware that one of the disasters will change his life, taking away a piece of him, his wife. She is
warning him to live a life right now as tomorrow Komura possibly can follow his wife. The

The Pros And Cons Of Malware
What Is Malware? You sure have heard before terms such as virus, worm, Trojan or rootkit when
people discuss internet security. These names describe types of programs used by internet
criminals or hackers to hack and take over computers and mobile devices. All of these different
terms can be simply called malware. We can simply say that malware is a software, a computer
program used by hackers to perform malicious actions. In fact, the word malware is a
combination of two words malicious and software. The end goal of most hackers is to install a
malware on your device. And once it s installed, these hackers can potentially take control of that
device. Many people have this wrong idea of malware is being a problem only for Windows
computers. And the reality is, Windows is widely used, which makes it a big target, malware can
attack any computing device, including smartphones and tablets. In fact, the percentage of
malicious software action against mobile devices is steadily growing. (Zeltser, L. 2014) Malware
in these days is no longer created by just curious hobbyists or amateur hackers, but by experienced
internet criminals to help them achieve certain goals. These goals can include stealing... Show more

Internet attackers are constantly changing, developing new and more intelligent attacks that can
bypass anti malware programs. In turn, anti virus vendors are then continuously updating their
products and programs with new capabilities to detect new malware. To be clear, it has become an
arms race, with both sides attempting to outsmart the other. Unfortunately, internet criminals almost
always have the upper hand. As such, remember that while anti malware can detect and block
many malware, attackers are always creating new versions that will be missed. As a result, you
cannot depend on just anti malware to protect you. You have to take additional steps to protect

Lack Of Success Between 1815 And 1848
Italian Nationalism s lack of success between 1815 and 1848 stemmed from four important reasons,
the main factor for lack of success was the Austrian Empire but was however not the only factor.
Other factors preventing Italian nationalism were, lack of national identity, divisions amongst the
nationalists and the church.
During 1815 and 1848 the Austrian rule within the Italian peninsula was brutal and repressive. The
Italian language had been banned in public life. Signs, law courts, newspapers and schools all had
to be in German the language of the Austrians, throughout regions directly ruled by Austria there
was also a network of spies and informers listening to peoples business to imprison suspected Italian
nationalists some of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pope feared Italian nationalism as he didn t want to lose control over the states of the church
and also the money the church created through taxation and pilgrms. The pope also opposed Italian
Nationalism as he felt sympathetic towards the Habsburgs and the Bourbons as they were the rulers
of southern Italy and the two most powerful royal families in Europe and he did not wish to
weaken them by supporting Italian Nationalism. The pope feared what he called a civil war the
Austrian Habsburgs, Spanish Bourbons and Italian Nationalists all followed the Catholic religion,
the pope would not condone a Nationalist Revolution in which Catholics killed Catholics.
furthermore the pope was a very conservative individual, therefore feared new ideas and social
change such as liberalism and socialism. the pope feared that Italian nationalism would lead to the
church being persecuted like it had been in the French revolution and because of this the Catholic
church in Italy threatened to ex communicate any Catholic found to be a member of any Nationalist
organisations, these factors throughout the church also contributed to the lack of Italian nationalist

A Report On Farm Suicides
(INDIA REALTIME, 2013)
Farm suicides took place in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Madhya
Pradesh including Chhattisgarh. (INDIA REALTIME, 2013) Poor health conditions, family
disputes over property, domestic problems, and heavy social burden of marrying daughters coupled
with alcoholism have pushed farmers towards committing suicides. (INDIA REALTIME, 2013)
Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti
According to Kishor Tiwari (President of Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti) after a relief package
also 90 % peasant from Vidarbha cotton taking farmers borrow loan from sahukar, because
rejection of banks to provide loan. So there should be law that all farmers should be receiving loan
from banks. Maharashtra state government failed to protect the farmer s life as being a state. In the
relief package there is huge corruption and anomalies and because of the faulty eligibility criteria
the deceased families failed to receive support from government.
Emile Durkheim identifies four broad types of suicide viz, egoistic, altruistic, anomic and
fatalistic. Fatalistic is caused by excessive social regulation (blocked by passion), altruistic is not
legitimately studied by Durkheim. Anomic type is caused when an individual is provided with ill
defined objectives/ goals that make the possibility of failure high. And egoistic occurs when the
ties binding the individual to others are slackened and there is absence of adequate social
integration. Farmer suicide in India

Gender Roles In J. B. Priestley s An Inspector Calls
An Inspector Calls was written by J. B. Priestley in 1945, and was set in 1912. One of the main
themes throughout the play is the theme of responsibility, and the consequences of our actions.
Another important theme in the play is of the contrast between the younger and older generations,
which again links into responsibility, as the younger generation are willing to accept responsibility
for what they have done wrong, whereas the older generation are not.
In the beginning of the play, we get the idea that Sheila may be slightly naГЇve, as she is still
young, and we see her and her mother, Mrs Birling, following the typical gender roles of women in
1912, especially those of the upper class. However, as the play progresses, we begin to see ... Show

When she find out about her father s involvement, her attitude begins to change slightly, and she
says I think it was a mean thing to do. Perhaps that spoilt everything for her which shows that she
understands that her father is partly responsible for Eva Smith s death, and she sees how he
could have had something to do with it, whereas, he doesn t see how he could be responsible,
responding to Sheila s comment with Rubbish! . This is the first example we see of the
differences between the younger and older generations, as Sheila can see how Mr Birling could
be at fault, whereas he is denying any responsibility, and insists it was all Eva Smith s own fault.
The fact that Sheila is portrayed as a naГЇve child at first, but then begins to understand how her
father could ve impacted Eva Smith s life demonstrates Priestley s idea that the younger generation
are also more open to change, and to accepting what they have done

Systems Theory In Social Work
One last theory which has impacted my clinical social work practice is systems theory which seeks
to understand how interrelated and interdependent parts work together to make up a whole system
(Langer, Lietz, Ebooks, 2015). For clients in court mandated treatment, multiple systems interact
together to inform and affect treatment outcomes. Probation, parole, the department of corrections,
the court system, the halfway house, the client s income status, housing arrangements, and family
systems are just a few of the systems which can be present for court mandated clients. With
intersecting mental health, substance use, and oftentimes trauma; all of these systems are
interdependent and intrinsically linked and thus it is important as a clinician to understand that the
client may be heavily affected by one system which can impact their overall treatment. Another
aspect of systems theoryapplies to mezzo level interactions between myself, my organization, and
other organizations which are interrelated with my organizations. My concentration internship is
for a non profit organization providing mental health and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The theories I have highlighted in this essay show the client centered aspects of my social work
practice. From a person centered perspective, I seek to remain client centered, creating a therapeutic
alliance where I have unconditional positive regard for my clients while providing a congruent
experience through accurate empathic understanding of my client s concerns. Remaining client
centered is further accentuated through attachment theory where I seek to understand how the
client s interactions with myself and others has been impacted by their relationship with their
parental figures. Similarly, using systems theory helps me to understand my client where they are,
in their life, by understanding how the systems exist and relate to one

Now all car companies work very hard to find out what people really want from cars, and they try
to build cars to fit the preferences. Market research uses all the same empirical tools as
experimental psychology, but with larger research budgets, better defined questions, more
representative samples of people, and more impact. Ideally, marketing s empiricism works like
Rogerian psychotherapy: it holds up a mirror to ourselves, reflecting our beliefs and desires so we
can recognize, remember, evaluate, and transform them.
Ford Motor Company is undergoing a transformation that is putting their customers at the center of
everything they do. Their vision is to be the world s leading consumer company for automotive
products and services. That requires a much different headset than that of a traditional automobile
manufacturer one that concentrates intensely on the people who buy and use their products.
Obviously, they had had a pretty good idea of what their customers wanted in the past, or we

For nearly a century, Ford Motor Company has worked to improve people s lives and be a
responsible and valuable member of the community. In recent years, they have expanded and
accelerated their corporate citizenship efforts, and worked to integrate them into their overall
business strategy.
But today s customer and today s competition requires a deeper level of understanding. Traditional

Gait Assessment
Gait is the most important function of daily living activities for all human beings. As physical
therapists and researchers we are particularly interested in evaluation of gait. There is a distinct
necessity for objective measurement of gait because without it the excellence of treatment decisions
is condensed, due to subjective and often unreliable nature of the assessment. Objective measures
must be employed to validate efficacy of the treatment protocol, a function that has become
imperative since health care resources are becoming more strained and health care providers are
held more accountable1. Gait assessment is an everyday responsibility of the therapist, and visual
assessment seems unreliable and erratic for the most part. Measurement... Show more content on

children with Cerebral Palsy. The psychometric properties of the walkway system have been

autism3 5. Walking on toes has numerous consequences and primary gait deviations are seen in
subjects at ankle joint6. Evidence also shows that idiopathic toe walkers have significant increase
in ankle plantarflexion during stance and swing phases6. Hence, a bigger project to evaluate the

Chris Owings Speakout Analysis
Outside of rostering Judge, Harper, Trout, and Cano, there are plenty of cheaper, under the radar
options that have been maintaining consistency. Here are a few standouts. Chris Owings:
Owings is truly a jack of all trades. Wherever the DBacks need him, he is there, whether he plays
outfield, shortstop or second base, although his primary role is shortstop. Drafted by the
Diamondbacks in 2009 out of high school. He made his major league debut in Sept of 2013. He
spent sometime prowling around the Diamondbacks system but it looks like he is here to stay.
In 28 games, Owings is batting .311 with 21 RBI s and 5 HR. His salary has gone up in both DK
and Fanduel, he is currently sitting at $4200. Scoring in double digit fantasy points most nights, he
is well worth the roster spot. Aaron Altherr: The 26 year old outfielder for the Phillies is fantasy

Altherr, Hernandez has the clutch gene. Cesar sits at $2900 on Fanduel and $3400 on DK, the
similarities between he and Altherr keep coming. Through the 2017 season, Hernandez has not
put up one goose egg in the point column in fantasy. Roster him if you know what is good for
you. Marwin Gonzalez: The switch hitting 1st baseman for the Astros has been the teams
hottest hitter. The multi talented athlete has played at every position for the Astros except
pitcher and catcher. To say he is valuable to the Astros would be an understatement. In 24 games,
Gonzalez is batting .266, with 21 RBI s and 9 HR s. Many critics are wondering if he can
possibly stay this hot for the remainder of the season, but why not ride out the hot streak while
you can. Marwin is only $3000 on Fanduel and $3300 on DK. The 1st base position has a lot of
talent, but while his price is so low, he is worth the roster

Some Thoughts on Health Is Wealth
Some Thoughts On Health Is Wealth
Many people are pursuing wealth and in the process losing their precious health.
Is frantic efforts of making more wealth really worth the price of losing your health?
The better your Health, the better are your chances of making more wealth.
Allocate some time in your busy schedule for giving your body proper exercise, nourishment and
rest. This is going to prove to be greatly useful in the longer run.
If you are addicted to Drugs like ganja, hashish, marijuana etc. Please, confess about your addiction
to a sensible serious minded elderly person and overcome the addiction. Otherwise, this will

Inthe process they ignore their health. They do not take care in eating food at the right time. In the
process of gathering more wealth, they also undergo a lot of stress.
So many people spend their health in gaining wealth and then spend their wealth to regain their
health.
Money can buy a tonic but not health, we have to do a number of things to maintain our health .
Now because of lack of exercises and proper food and stress the wealth may increase but health
begins to suffer. It has been proved that overwork without care for health leads to a number of
diseases. Disease like stomach ulcer, obesity are due to bad eating habits. Lack of exercises and
stress leads to high cholesterol, Blood pressure and heart problems. So it is better to take care of
your health.
If we have health, we probably will be happy and if we have both health and happiness we have all
the wealth we need. Health and intellect are two blessings of life. Happiness lies first of all in health.
Mahatma gandhi says that it is health that is the real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.
Taking care of one s health should be a continuous process. We should follow a routine of
exercises and proper food. It is said that exercise if persued continuously help us to gain strength.
We should also follow a diet that is beneficial for our health. Going on diet does not mean limiting
your food. We should aim at improving the quality of our food intake.

The Origin Of Rock Pigeons
Head Bobbing in Rock Pigeons A familiar sight seen in cities and towns around the world, the
Rock Pigeon (Columba livia), or colloquially known as the common city pigeon, is a widespread
animal that is hard to miss during a casual stroll on the street. City pigeons can typical be found
even in crowded sidewalks or public places near discarded food or nesting on public structures.
These animals can also be found around farmland and fields. Rock pigeons are an Old World
species originally native from Europe to North Africa and India and introduced to North
America in the early 1600s by European colonists to Atlantic coast settlements. However, since
rock pigeons have such a long history as one of the few birds so closely associated with humans,
it is difficult to determine the species original range (Johnston 2014). Rock pigeons are non
migratory but can still navigate with the earth s magnetic fields, sound, smell, position of the
sun, and other homing abilities. In other words, they are able to find their way home even when
displaced very far away. Wild populations of rock pigeons vary in body size and come in many
different plumage patterns, shades, and colors. Today, most rock pigeons are free living and
usually feed on the ground, favoring urban settings where food is available. Rock pigeons have
jerky head movements when standing still. Rather than a continuous rotation side to side (or up and
down), rock pigeons make swift jerky movements to observe their surroundings.

4,360 days That s how long it took former No. 1 overall pick Matt Bush to make his major league
debut. Bush s career, long looked at as a tragedy, can now take on a different narrative: redemption.
A shortstop from Mission Bay High School in the suburbs of San Diego, the San Diego Padres
selected Bush with the top pick in the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft. With the selection, Bush
became the first high school shortstop drafted first overall since the Seattle Mariners took Alex
Rodriguez in 1993. However, the accomplishment was short lived.
Both on and off the field, Bush s career got off to a rocky start. Weeks after being drafted and

In 2007, the Padres converted Bush to a pitcher, partially because of his ability to throw a 100

stay out of trouble.
In 2009, Bush was charged with misdemeanor battery stemming from an alleged drunkenly assault
on high school lacrosse players in San Diego. Later that year, the Padres traded Bush to the Toronto
Blue Jays. Following another alcohol related incident, Toronto cut Bush, who was given another
chance in 2010 when the Tampa Bay Rays signed him to a minor league contract.
In his two seasons with the Rays organization (2010, 2011), Bush put together a 7 3 record in 56

Introduction. Circadian Or Diurnal Rhythms Are Metabolic
Introduction
Circadian or diurnal rhythms are metabolic or behavioural rhythms, in animals and plants, that
occur usually within a 24 hour cycle (Abercrombie et al. 1990). The changes in body temperature
over the course of a day (24 hours), or in the case of females, over a month, is one of the most
documented human circadian rhythms. Body temperature as well as circadian rhythms in humans

In fact it is the hormone, melatonin which is released by the pineal gland that is responsible for
controlling the sleep cycle (Society for Endocrinology, 2015). Melatonin production increases as it
becomes dark and is supressed to a degree by light. Melatonin causes drowsiness by lowering the
core body temperature. It has been found that the hormone is also released when one is stressed
which can occur while in flight. The body reacts to the untimely release of melatonin and disrupts
the circadian rhythm, which raises the body temperature and lowers it at the wrong time of day.
It naturally will take time for the bodies internal clock to readjust to a normal rhythm, and, if
travelling to a different time zone, the body has to adjust to a different day night cycle.
Aims
The main aim of this study and experiment is to see if all long haul flights, irrespective of
direction, result in a degree of jet lag as reflected by one of the affected circadian rhythms, namely
body temperature.
The study aims to determine whether the hypothesis is correct. An additional aim is to see if
average body temperature is lowered during the flight and fluctuates less than in a normal 24 hour
cycle. Should there be enough suitable participants, another aim is to see whether people over the
age of 30 take longer to return to their normal body temperature circadian rhythm than those under
the age of 30.

Harry Connick Research Paper
The life of Harry Connick Jr. leads an entirely different arc. Harry Connick Jr. is entirely the

Strike the Gavel; Swing the Blade Is our government capable of enforcing a final means of
punishment upon criminals? Do we have the right to take the life of a criminal? When is it time to
exercise lethal leverage, or is the life of criminal not to be ended by our government? These
questions are the reason the controversy of capital punishment remains far being settled. With so
much money being placed into our nations prisons, and so many victims and their families feeling
that the offenses committed against them have gone completely unpunished, we must drop the
blade of capital punishment, at full force.

Essay on Technology Negatively Affects Children
The current generation of children is completely different than the preceding ones. They are living
in the digital age. Technology has blended in with daily activity to become a way of life and
children today take for granted all of which is automated. It is hard for kids nowadays to imagine a

The Main Role Of Roman Women In Ancient Rome
Even though we didn t know a lot about roman women because nobody wrote about them, neither

The main role of Roman women were to be a good wife and mother, and she was responsible for

of an emperor, she had a limit freedom and they were not allowed to be participate in politics.

Proper intelligence input is essential to taking informed decisions on issues of national security.
Intelligence agencies are important arms of the State for meeting external challenges and for the
proper management of internal security.
In brief, our national security objectives are: (i) preservation of territorial and maritime integrity of
the country; (ii) having friendly relations with all countries; (iii) providing for sustained economic
and social development accessible to all; (iv) creating credible capacities to meet conventional and
non conventional threats and challenges emerging from space and cyber space; and (v) nurturing
the values of secularism and democracy. These objectives set the agenda for our policies and

of these objectives.
To consider the security environment in which we have to fashion our policies, we find that the

Corruption in Corporate America
Corruption in Corporate America As said in every economics class, the reason every business goes
into business is to make money. The same can be said in criminal cases involving businesses. In the
majority of cases, executives and people highly ranked in the company tend to bend the numbers in
the financial/accounting areas of the business or corporation. They do not do this for fun, but rather
to make money. Something needs to be done before corporations really get out of hand. Thankfully,
after the EnronCorporation scandal, the government has recently started to crack down on

I feel that the people who commit these crimes are just overwhelmingly greedy and cannot
control themselves. If they were able to build up the company, they obviously are intelligent
minds and more than likely already have a significant amount of money. Something needs to be
done, especially when so many people are affected. Millions of people lost so much money and
too many lost their life savings just because the people at the top of Enron were greedy. It seems
as though the government is taking small steps in the right direction. However, I feel that more
needs to be done especially because some of these companies are funding and supplying potential
terrorists. That is just outrageous and shows the extent of what people will do to make money.
This is difficult to control and monitor but more steps need to be made. Hopefully the politicians

Essay on Bravery in The Tempest
The Theme of Bravery in The Tempest
Bravery performs a very important role in The Tempest. Different than a motif, the theme of
bravery actually takes form in Shakespeare s play and develops the play itself. However, like a
motif, bravery is used intermittently throughout the play in different form and context. It captures
different meanings and performs different capacities erratically.
A denotative definition from the 15th century, according to the Merriam Webster Collegiate
Dictionary (10 ed.), portrays brave as meaning, [from Old Italian and Spanish, meaning courageous,
wild; probably from Latin, meaning barbarous]. The dictionary then defines brave as a. having

Another example from the text of brave/bravery would be the presence of spirits and the brave
god [that] bears celestial liquor (II.ii.159). Caliban only knows spirit and charm. He has not yet
encountered what we would call a normal human relationship. The spirits of Stephano and Trinculo
are brave to the kneeling Caliban because they bear a fine show and heavenly charm that will
satisfy his need to be subject to something that is not earthly.
On and on throughout the text, the theme of bravery is evident. Brave and bravery demonstrate our
thematic process throughout the play through the Prosepero s realization of the benefits of
forgiveness over revenge. The thematic direction of Miranda s brave coming of age, and realizing of
her femininity and love of Ferdinand. The brave new world conqueror s Stephano and Trinculo
who are setting out to claim the island as their own and bravely breed a continent of issue from
the brave wonder of Miranda. Stephano bravely professes, Monster, I will kill this man: his
daughter and I will be king and queen save our graces! and Trinculo and thyself will be viceroys.
Dost thou the clouds methought would open and show riches Ready to drop upon me that, when I
waked, I cried to dream again.
Variations of the word bravery come in all different configurations. We have a brave monster
(II.ii.257), in Caliban. We have a brave lass (III.ii.153) that will bring

Above all else, people are defined by their essential identity, an identity which for Owen McLean

The Stereotypes Against Tattoos
As time progresses, the stigma against tattooing has evolved, taking on many subject positions
including social class, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and age. Each subject position has developed
through the Ancient, Modern, and Postmodern eras. Some subject positions on tattoos, like the five
mentioned before, have invoked anxiety in society across eras, altering the cultural discourse of
contemporary society.
The tattoo fashion statement s origin from the Ancient Era in European cultures was far from
appealing. At that time, tattooing was viewed as a mark of infamy or a moral blot (Caplan 1). This
social blot gave rise to the divisions of social class. On all slaves in the Orient, and on fugitive
slaves in Greece and Rome the stigmata ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One Indian ethnic group even thought [t]attoos [as] the only jewels a girl [could] [take] to her
grave (van Dinter, 119). Many of these ethnicities revered tattooing as a prestigious process,
marking important events in one s life, like coming of age ceremonies and marriage. For instance,
in Indian ethnic culture, women used temporary Henna tattoos during weddings. Ethnicities in
India traditionally used [Henna] for celebrations and right of passage (http://www.pbs.org
/independentlens/newamericans/culturalriches/art_henna.html) for marriages, coming of age
ceremonies, births, or religious festivals. These tattoos were considered auspicious and were used
by only high caste women. This social custom proves that the tattoo s role in social class still
existed across cultures and ethnicities, but its role in this social hierarchy was a positive one, unlike
the branding usage in the western cultures of the Ancient era. Because lower caste women did not
have access to temporary tattooing, many of them permanently tattooed designs on their hands for
their weddings, to still have the auspicious presence of the art on their hands. This separation
between high and low caste women in the same ethnicity is another example that illustrates the
intersection of the subject positions ethnicity and social class. But as time progressed from the
Ancient to the Postmodern era, the social barriers of using Henna in India diminished significantly.
In present day, Henna is one of the many forms of tattooing that has been culturally appropriated
and widely used. Though its ancient roots are still firmly ingrained in Indian society, western
society has changed the cultural discourse on Henna tattoos by transforming it into a form of
fashionable, temporary adornment without any occasion connections , stirring anxiety in many

Selling prescription drugs online has also become extremely popular within a short period of time.
It is so popular in fact; the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy has just set up a new board
that certifies online pharmacies and calls them Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites. To
date, there are only four such sites. They are: CVS.com, Drugstore.com, MerckMedco.com, and
PlanetRx.com. This is not to say that no other websites are safe, just that the Food and Drug
Administration does not accept them. People are advised to buy only from the four acceptable
websites. One problem with online pharmacies is that there are only four approved ones. Any
others may be potentially dangerous. These other websites, though they may be completely
legal, and they may be only selling prescription drugs, might not be safe. They don t carry your
medical information only your physician does. Most prescription drugs have precautions and
drug interactions making them unsafe for some people. A simple trip to the doctor s office may
take the risk out of these websites. This view is easily argued by people with little time on their

Despite the evidence of premeditation, the obvious animosity between the assassin and the victims,
and the immediate confession, Dan White was only convicted of two counts of voluntary

both deliberation and premeditation, while voluntary manslaughter is defined as the killing of

Character In Matthew Riley s Scarecrow
Character is readable because of its virtual identity, which in effect promotes an imaginative
gestalt for the figure (Cohan, 1983). The major difference between a film and a novel is the
increased subjectivity of what a character looks like, how they sound and the area they are
surrounded in purely because it is up to the reader to imagine these things. This essay will analyse
Matthew Riley s international best selling novelScarecrow, and how he introduces characterfirst
through describing the surrounding areas and how he gives certain personality implications of the

Schofield is incredibly courageous, and as a result, Riley has described the surroundings to open
the novel with perfection. Schofield, the main character, is subsequently introduced to the reader,
and the first thing we find out about him is that he has become a target in the greatest bounty
hunt in history. Before the reader can even begin to imagine what Schofield looks like, Riley has
already given the impression that he is a tough man with seemingly a lot of enemies, which would
further suggest that he has lived through an action packed life. This is all before even knowing
what colour hair the man has, or if he is big or small in stature, which is a credit to how Riley has
introduced the character to the reader without even introducing him at all.
Riley then begins to describe Schofield, first of all further expressing the personality of the
character with his sunglasses. He writes, The grey Siberian sky was reflected in the silver lenses
of his wraparound anti flesh glasses. The glasses concealed a pair of vertical scars that cut down
across Schofield s eyes, wounds from a previous mission and the source of his operational
nickname: Scarecrow, (Riley, 2003). While Riley is now describing the physical aspects of the
main character, he continues to imply who the character is as well as what the character looks like.
The reflective silver sunglasses further suggest the courageous, heroic traits of the character as has

Description Of An Executive Dashboard
In information technology, dashboard refers to a graphical user interface that organizes information
and presents it in an easy to read format. A useful dashboard gives the executive a sense of the
bigger picture of the organization. A dashboard incorporates the trinity mindset to achieve optimal
performance. The customer s behavior, outcomes, and experience will help the executive adopt
client based innovations. Thus, the developer must understand the audience, type, and frequency of
the application to help develop a relevant dashboard useful in monitoring, communicating, and
advancing strategies for the organization.
According to Lavinsky (2013), an executive dashboard is a visual illustration that gives the
management team a fast and easy means of viewing the real time performance of their organization.
Also known as Strategic Dashboards, they provide information for executives to align the activities
with the business goals, answer critical questions, and boost productivity. Real time decisions can
be made through the massive amount of data since the dashboard combines and organizes numbers,
scorecards, and key performance indicators (KPI) in a single screen. The screen is a simple
interface made for the managers and supervisors within an organization (The Huffington Post,
2016). The interface should sieve information like the customer relation management (CRM)
system, email system, and accounting programs to simplify the management work.

Video Games And Its Impact On Education Essay
Gaming is on the rise and it is easy to fathom that the use of gaming in education is also
increasing. Thus, educational gaming is listed as one of the 10 Major Technology Trends in
Education (Riedel, 2014). One reason gaming is increasing so rapidly is because the very notion
of what a game is has broadened to include a variety of experiences (Jayanth, 2014). Michael D.
Gallagher, president and CEO of Entertainment Software Association which conducts consumer
research and analysis said, Video games are the future. From education and business, to art and
entertainment, our industry brings together the most innovative and creative minds to create the
most engaging, immersive and breathtaking experiences we ve ever seen (Entertainment
Software Association, 2016). We as teachers seek to engage our students. If video games and
gaming can better involve our students in the lesson, it is my belief that we should absolutely
use it in our classroom. This trend is shaping education technology because digital gaming is just
that, digital. It requires some sort of technological devices in order to play. There are gaming
applications that are minute and do not require much from a device. Basically, anyone can play
these games so long as they have technology equipment. You also have much more extensive
games that require special hardware, such as a certain processor, large amounts of memory and a
graphics card. Depending on the game you employ in your classroom will

The Importance Of Long Distance Relationships
Everyone has different ideas of what a long distance relationship is; to some it may mean being on
opposite sides of a state, country, or even the world. It seems that as the miles between two partners
increases the strain on their relationship and communication increases as well. In recent years the
number of long distance relationships have experienced a steady increase, focusing mostly around
relationships between college aged partners. According to the McKinnel s Paradigm (1994) as
mentioned in Extended CommunicationEfforts Involved With College Long Distance Relationships
, nearly one third of students in college or universities are involved in some form of a relationship
involving distance defined by a 50 mile radius (Firmin, Firmin, Merical, 2013). College aged
partners are not the only ones that interact with the struggles of a long distance relationship; many
military and immigrant partnerships also face the strain of finding fulfilling modes of
communication. Communication is one of the foundational building blocks of any relationship.
When distance is factored into the communicative properties of a relationship, the relationship tends
to suffer. As time and technology have advanced, this communicative downfall has become more
manageable for any type of relationship.
Katheryn C. Maguire and Terry A. Kinney explore the ideas of satisfaction across long distance vs.
proximal relationships as well as concepts surrounding stressors and the influence distance can

Claude McKay published Harlem Shadows, which were a collection of his most acclaimed

History of The Cadillac
Cadillac is a name known worldwide, and is valued across the world by many car enthusiasts.
Cadillac has been one of the top leaders in luxury vehicles since its start in 1902. Over its 114
year existence, the brand has put out many luxury cars that are top of the line to this day. These
models include the Escalade, and the CT6. Cadillac is one of the most unique luxury car brands, as
it one of the only luxury brands that are produced in the United States. So given this background
information, one would have to assume that the Cadillac brand has a substantial amount of history,
so I present to you... The History Of Cadillac.

engine that Cadillac ran on was nicknamed The Little Hercules About 2,400 models of the
Runabout and Tonneau were sold in 1903, giving Cadillac a very good start in the automobile
industry. I think the reason for Cadillac s huge early success was that the car was truly one of a
kind. It came with the newest technology of it s age, and offered a look and feel of luxury like
no other car on the market could ve possibly offered. According to the Runabout and Tonneau
official Wikipedia page, the one cylinder engine that Cadillac produced for the two debut models
were only offered from 1903 1908. This is interesting because 1908 was still before the first
Chevrolet was made. So just think about this, Cadillac was already moving on from single
cylinder engines while Chevrolet still hadn t been founded or produced their debut vehicle. To me
that is just insane, considering the fact that Chevrolet who is owned by General Motors are now
partners, and basically own the Cadillac brand! Oh how the roles have flipped over the

Prepared by Jing Wang
Abstract
This paper explores the question whether the financial statements can be made more useful. This
leads to an important concept in accounting the concept of decision usefulness. To properly
understand this concept, this paper outlines other theories from economics and finance to assist in
conceptualizing the meaning of useful financial statement information.
The main purpose of this paper is to introduce the concept of decision usefulness approach, related

Therefore, in order to adopt the decision usefulness approach, three major questions must be
addressed:
1. Who are the users of financial statements?
It is helpful to categorize users into broad groups, such as investors, creditors, managers, unions,
standard setters, and governments, etc. These groups are called constituencies of accounting.
* Investors * Holders of equity securities, such as common stocks, preferred shares * Holders of
partnership interest * Other equity holders or owners
* Creditors * Purchaser of debt instrument * Lend economic resources
* Manager * Inside financial statements provider and user * Has a different incentive of using
financial statements than outsiders
* Other users (provide resources) * Employees provide human capital in exchange for salary,
remuneration and pension. * Suppliers extend credit to facilitate sales. * Customers prepay for
goods and services. * Union, standard setters and governments provide policies and regulations.
In order to take a close look into various financial statement users behaviour, two theories or
concepts should be outlined here:
* Single person decision theory
Single person decision theory takes the viewpoint of an individual who much make a decision
under conditions of uncertainty. * It suggests how a rational individual makes optimal decisions in
the presence of uncertainty. * It

A Biological Catalyst Essay
A Biological Catalyst A Biological catalyst is a catalyst that is produced organically. In other
words, a cell makes it. It is usually a protein or steroid molecule that works to catalyse a specific
reaction. For example, amylaseis a biological catalyst. Biological catalysts are called enzymes.
Reactions take energy to get them started. This energy is called the activation energy. Enzymes
catalyse reactions inside organisms. A catalyst is a molecule that acts as a matchmaker, bringing

Salivary amylase is an enzyme that breaks down big molecules into smaller ones. Amylase enzyme
breaks starch molecules up into two residue units (a residue is a glucose molecule, or monomer of
sugar. Lots of residues joined together form a polysaccharide. Starch is a polysaccharide). Two
glucose molecules split off from the starch molecule form maltose. This maltose is the product of
catalytic action by the enzyme amylase on the substrate. The substrate is the starch.
2.) What are intracellular/ extracellular enzymes? Enzymes are proteins. They are very important
substances because they control the chemical reactions that happen in our bodies. There are two
main types of enzyme. Digestive enzymes are extracellular enzymes they control reactions that take
place outside cells. Those enzymes that control reactions inside cells are called intracellular
enzymes.
3.) What is the Lock and Key theory? The lock is the enzyme and the key is the substrate. Only
the correctly sized key (substrate) fits into the key hole (active site) of the lock (enzyme). Smaller
keys, larger keys, or incorrectly positioned teeth on keys (incorrectly shaped or sized substrate
molecules) do not fit into the lock (enzyme). Only the correctly shaped key opens a

Babe Secoli s Definition Of The Workplace
Ask most people what their definition of a workplace is, and the general answer is: the
environment in which I work. Yet, upon deeper consideration, there is so much more to it. A
workplace is a melting pot of every individual factor that compromises the place in which someone
works. There is the succession of managementdown to the various positions, customers, goals, sales,
products, etc. Many fail to recognize all of the minute details that are needed to build a business.
These work communities foster leadership, organization, teamwork, communication, and
innovation. However, this is the ideal form and normally arduous to find. Most labor environments
feature corrupt leadership, ulterior motives, and a general lack of sensitivity and care... Show more

It is no lie that rivalry creates results. By offering incentives and driving a minor wedge of
possible superiority with bragging rights among the employees, motivation also increases. This
is, nonetheless, only progressive in small, controlled doses. Among employees, rivalry can
instill a feeling of utter individuality. Instead of working together to complete a task, everyone
feels the need to do it themselves. This can decrease productivity and result in jobs not getting
finished. In a study done by Todd Arnold, it was found that in highly competitive retail
environments, the relationship between ambiguity and job efficiency was weaker (Santora 82).
If the push for competition is too extensive, the core values of the company can also falter. It
soon becomes a drive for maximizing profit and less about ensuring the staff that their work is
appreciated. This is extensively clear with the issue of credit cards at JCPenney. Managers
begin to lose sight of their workers as people, and only view them as the number of applications
they get. It becomes as if there is a number floating above one s head and that is how each
personnel is seen. This also inadvertently decides who the favorite staff members are. Then, even
if the goal is met with a worker, their 3 applications are compared to another s 6. It is a never
ending game that

How Is Hester Prynne A Heroine
The Scarlet Letter is a classic novel written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. It is set in puritan times
around the 16th century. The story tells of a women of the name Hester Prynne who commits
adultery with a man who is kept a mystery until the end of the book, and bears a daughter named
Pearl. It follows the lives of the people in Boston, Massachusetts from the point of the beginning
of Pearl s life, to the death of Hester. Though the books tells of the many scenes of Hester s life, I
believe that through it all, Hester Prynneis a heroine and has many traits of being so in this book. I
believe that she is a heroine because she was brave, she was faithful to who she really loved, and
she was calm through it all. Hester Prynne was a heroine because

Over fished and Under protected: Ocean Life on the Brink of Catastrophic Collapse Tom Levitt, for
CNN
Updated: 11:07 AM, Wednesday March 27, 2013.
The downfall of fish in the Atlantic Ocean is a result of numerous factors such as certain fishing
techniques, climate change, and pollution. One type of fishing technique that is causing serious
damage to marine life is bottom trawling. Bottom trawling is a form of fishing that involves a
large net, about 60 meters wide, and dragging it along the bottom of the sea with heavy weights
from a trawler. Bottom trawling causes irreversible damage to coral life and slow growing fish
species, for example the Orange Roughy s (Slime Head) species has decreased more than 90%.
Halibut disappeared from the North Atlantic in the 19th century. In the North Ocean, Blue Fin
Tuna disappeared in the 1930 s 1940 s, and today have disappeared across the seas of Northern
Europe.
This is a paragraph from an article, Over fished and Under protected: Oceans on the Brink of
Catastrophic Collapse by Tom Levitt, for CNN.
Marine conservationists compare it to a bulldozer, with the nets pulled for as far as 20km, picking
up turtles, coral and anything else in their path. The by catch, unwanted fish and other ocean life
thrown back into the sea, can amount to as much as 90% of a trawl s total catch.
Opinion 2: Deep sea fishing is oceanocide .

Switzerland evolved over many centuries from a loose alliance of small self governing towns and

Don Pio Pico, a renowned figure of early Mexican/American culture, was known for his exquisite

identity.
Nonetheless, I found the Pico mansion to be quaint, surrounded by growing grapes and many
other native plants, like rosemary, agave, and lavender, along with pillars and skilled crafted
objects by the family, perhaps, directly tied to their Mexican, Spanish, African and Italian roots.
The Adobe is built of thousands of earthen blocks. The fact that most of the walls are original is a

Federal Budget Cuts For Domestic Programs And Foreign Aid...
During the activity, I chose federal budget cuts for domestic programs and foreign aid. I cut
foreign aid in half. I do not think that America needs to help the world anymore. We have
already helped out a lot and we should only help towards people that really need it, such as
starving Africans, instead of funding wars overseas. I cut the pay of civilian federal workers by
5 percent. People in the federal government get paid more and more every year while citizens of
our country get paid a lower minimum wage than a lot of other places in the world. I cut 250,000
government contractors. There are more contractors than government officials, which means more
money spent on a government that does not fully have the needs of the country in mind. In
addition, I chose federal budget cuts for the military. I reduced the number of troops in Iraq and
Afghanistan to 30,000 by 2013. We do not needthe troops in Iraq or Afghanistan anymore. The war
is over. Let the country figure out what it needs to do by itself. We helped create the uprising
there, so we can help diminish it by reducing troops. I also chose federal budget cuts for
healthcare. I enacted medical malpractice reform. I think it is important that our doctors research
as much as they can about a procedure or a medicine, so that they can provide the proper care for a
patient and reduce the risk of getting sued.
Moreover, I reduced the tax break for employer provider health insurance. Employers should not tax

What Happens During A Preliminary Hearing In Federal Court
A criminal prosecution usually begins with an arraignment: A preliminary hearing (aka a prelim, a
probable cause hearing, PX and a preliminary examination) is very similar to an arraignment, but it
provides the defendant a greater opportunity for counter argument. In essence, a preliminary hearing
is a trialbefore the trial. It is during the preliminary hearing that the judgeor magistrate decides
whether there is enough evidence for the accused to stand trial. When making his or her
determination, the judge/magistrate uses what is referred to as the probable cause legal standard.
This standard helps him or her decide whether the prosecution has produced a sufficient amount of
evidence to convince a juryof the defendant s guilt.

During a preliminary hearing in federal court, the government s attorney (Prosecutor) will present
evidence to the judge/magistrate: The prosecutor may choose to present physical evidence and/or
call in witnesses to testify. The prosecutor s goal is to prove to the judge/magistrate that there is
enough evidence for the case to go to trial and convince a jury of the defendant s guilt. Once the
prosecution has presented all its evidence and its witnesses have testified, the defense is usually
given the opportunity to respond.
The defense typically has the chance to cross examine any of the witnesses the government has
presented. In addition, any other evidence against the defendant may be called into question. While
each case is unique, the defense usually has the right to call witnesses and provide evidence as
well. The goal of the defense is to show the judge/magistrate that the prosecution does not have a
strong enough case to take to trial and, therefore, convince the judge/magistrate that the case must

If not for his taking the Continental army lightly, Benjamin may not have been able to lead the Continental army to victory. He has the trait of the mad scientist. And for the woman, we can categorized Charlotte Selton as the tomboy who has the appearance of the madonna. She is reliable, as can be seen from her taking care of Benjamin s children during the war. With a lot of character, there are quite a number of conflicts happened inside the movie. The first kind is the man against himself conflict. This kind of conflict can be seen from the argument between Benjamin and Gabriel that resulted in Benjamin questioning his own resolves. Benjamin also had the same kind of conflict when he was devastated by the death of Gabriel. The second kind is the man against man conflict. Benjamin was having this kind of conflict with Gabriel and also Tavington. He was having an argument about the humanity in the battlefield with the former (when Gabriel s group found out about the innocents killing that Benjamin s group did). These names describe types of programs used by internet criminals or hackers to hack and take over computers and mobile devices. All of these different terms can be simply called malware. We can simply say that malware is a software, a computer program used by hackers to perform malicious actions. In fact, the word malware is a combination of two words malicious and software. The end goal of most hackers is to install a malware on your device. And once it s installed, these hackers can potentially take control of that device. Many people have this wrong idea of malware is being a problem only for Windows computers. And the reality is, Windows is widely used, which makes it a big target, malware can attack any computing device, including smartphones and tablets. In fact, the percentage of malicious software action against mobile devices is steadily growing. Lack Of Success Between 1815 And 1848 Italian Nationalism s lack of success between 1815 and 1848 stemmed from four important reasons, the main factor for lack of success was the Austrian Empire but was however not the only factor. Other factors preventing Italian nationalism were, lack of national identity, divisions amongst the nationalists and the church. During 1815 and 1848 the Austrian rule within the Italian peninsula was brutal and repressive. The Italian language had been banned in public life. Signs, law courts, newspapers and schools all had to be in German the language of the Austrians, throughout regions directly ruled by Austria there was also a network of spies and informers listening to peoples business to imprison suspected Italian nationalists some of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pope feared Italian nationalism as he didn t want to lose control over the states of the church and also the money the church created through taxation and pilgrms. The pope also opposed Italian Nationalism as he felt sympathetic towards the Habsburgs and the Bourbons as they were the rulers of southern Italy and the two most powerful royal families in Europe and he did not wish to weaken them by supporting Italian Nationalism. The pope feared what he called a civil war the Austrian Habsburgs, Spanish Bourbons and Italian Nationalists all followed the Catholic religion, the pope would not condone a Nationalist Revolution in which Catholics killed Catholics. furthermore the pope was a very conservative individual, therefore feared new ideas and social change such as liberalism and socialism. the pope feared that Italian nationalism would lead to the church being persecuted like it had been in the French revolution and because of this the Catholic church in Italy threatened to ex communicate any Catholic found to be a member of any Nationalist organisations, these factors throughout the church also contributed to the lack of Italian nationalist ... (INDIA REALTIME, 2013) Poor health conditions, family disputes over property, domestic problems, and heavy social burden of marrying daughters coupled with alcoholism have pushed farmers towards committing suicides. (INDIA REALTIME, 2013) Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti According to Kishor Tiwari (President of Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti) after a relief package also 90 % peasant from Vidarbha cotton taking farmers borrow loan from sahukar, because rejection of banks to provide loan. So there should be law that all farmers should be receiving loan from banks. Maharashtra state government failed to protect the farmer s life as being a state. In the relief package there is huge corruption and anomalies and because of the faulty eligibility criteria the deceased families failed to receive support from government. Emile Durkheim identifies four broad types of suicide viz, egoistic, altruistic, anomic and fatalistic. Fatalistic is caused by excessive social regulation (blocked by passion), altruistic is not legitimately studied by Durkheim. Anomic type is caused when an individual is provided with ill defined objectives/ goals that make the possibility of failure high. And egoistic occurs when the ties binding the individual to others are slackened and there is absence of adequate social integration. Farmer suicide in India ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Gender Roles In J. B. Priestley s An Inspector Calls An Inspector Calls was written by J. B. Priestley in 1945, and was set in 1912. One of the main themes throughout the play is the theme of responsibility, and the consequences of our actions. Another important theme in the play is of the contrast between the younger and older generations, which again links into responsibility, as the younger generation are willing to accept responsibility for what they have done wrong, whereas the older generation are not. In the beginning of the play, we get the idea that Sheila may be slightly naГЇve, as she is still young, and we see her and her mother, Mrs Birling, following the typical gender roles of women in 1912, especially those of the upper class. However, as the play progresses, we begin to see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When she find out about her father s involvement, her attitude begins to change slightly, and she says I think it was a mean thing to do. Perhaps that spoilt everything for her which shows that she understands that her father is partly responsible for Eva Smith s death, and she sees how he could have had something to do with it, whereas, he doesn t see how he could be responsible, responding to Sheila s comment with Rubbish! . This is the first example we see of the differences between the younger and older generations, as Sheila can see how Mr Birling could be at fault, whereas he is denying any responsibility, and insists it was all Eva Smith s own fault. The fact that Sheila is portrayed as a naГЇve child at first, but then begins to understand how her father could ve impacted Eva Smith s life demonstrates Priestley s idea that the younger generation are also more open to change, and to accepting what they have done ... Systems Theory In Social Work One last theory which has impacted my clinical social work practice is systems theory which seeks to understand how interrelated and interdependent parts work together to make up a whole system (Langer, Lietz, Ebooks, 2015). For clients in court mandated treatment, multiple systems interact together to inform and affect treatment outcomes. Probation, parole, the department of corrections, the court system, the halfway house, the client s income status, housing arrangements, and family systems are just a few of the systems which can be present for court mandated clients. With intersecting mental health, substance use, and oftentimes trauma; all of these systems are interdependent and intrinsically linked and thus it is important as a clinician to understand that the client may be heavily affected by one system which can impact their overall treatment. Remaining client centered is further accentuated through attachment theory where I seek to understand how the client s interactions with myself and others has been impacted by their relationship with their parental figures. Market research uses all the same empirical tools as experimental psychology, but with larger research budgets, better defined questions, more representative samples of people, and more impact. Ideally, marketing s empiricism works like Rogerian psychotherapy: it holds up a mirror to ourselves, reflecting our beliefs and desires so we can recognize, remember, evaluate, and transform them. Ford Motor Company is undergoing a transformation that is putting their customers at the center of everything they do. Their vision is to be the world s leading consumer company for automotive products and services. That requires a much different headset than that of a traditional automobile manufacturer one that concentrates intensely on the people who buy and use their products. Obviously, they had had a pretty good idea of what their customers wanted in the past, or we wouldn t be approaching our 100th anniversary. For nearly a century, Ford Motor Company has worked to improve people s lives and be a responsible and valuable member of the community. As physical therapists and researchers we are particularly interested in evaluation of gait. There is a distinct necessity for objective measurement of gait because without it the excellence of treatment decisions is condensed, due to subjective and often unreliable nature of the assessment. Objective measures must be employed to validate efficacy of the treatment protocol, a function that has become imperative since health care resources are becoming more strained and health care providers are held more accountable1. Gait assessment is an everyday responsibility of the therapist, and visual assessment seems unreliable and erratic for the most part. Measurement... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Persistent toe walking beyond age two years merits further investigation because it can be a first sign of an underlying neuromuscular or developmental abnormality like Cerebral Palsy (CP), Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and autism3 5. Walking on toes has numerous consequences and primary gait deviations are seen in subjects at ankle joint6. Evidence also shows that idiopathic toe walkers have significant increase in ankle plantarflexion during stance and swing phases6. Hence, a bigger project to evaluate the use of GAITRite in children diagnosed as idiopathic toe walkers is being planned. The Origin Of Rock Pigeons Head Bobbing in Rock Pigeons A familiar sight seen in cities and towns around the world, the Rock Pigeon (Columba livia), or colloquially known as the common city pigeon, is a widespread animal that is hard to miss during a casual stroll on the street. City pigeons can typical be found even in crowded sidewalks or public places near discarded food or nesting on public structures. These animals can also be found around farmland and fields. Rock pigeons are an Old World species originally native from Europe to North Africa and India and introduced to North America in the early 1600s by European colonists to Atlantic coast settlements. However, since rock pigeons have such a long history as one of the few birds so closely associated with humans, it is difficult to determine the species original range (Johnston 2014). Rock pigeons are non migratory but can still navigate with the earth s magnetic fields, sound, smell, position of the sun, and other homing abilities. In other words, they are able to find their way home even when displaced very far away. Wild populations of rock pigeons vary in body size and come in many different plumage patterns, shades, and colors. Today, most rock pigeons are free living and usually feed on the ground, favoring urban settings where food is available. Rock pigeons have jerky head movements when standing still. • 19. Introduction. Circadian Or Diurnal Rhythms Are Metabolic Introduction Circadian or diurnal rhythms are metabolic or behavioural rhythms, in animals and plants, that occur usually within a 24 hour cycle (Abercrombie et al. 1990). The changes in body temperature over the course of a day (24 hours), or in the case of females, over a month, is one of the most documented human circadian rhythms. Body temperature as well as circadian rhythms in humans is controlled by the hypothalamus, a small region of the brain that forms part of the autonomic nervous system. The hypothalamus synthesizes neurohormones, which are used to control the secretions of other hormones by the pituitary gland, which is linked to the hypothalamus. It is well known that long distance flights have many effects on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact it is the hormone, melatonin which is released by the pineal gland that is responsible for controlling the sleep cycle (Society for Endocrinology, 2015). Melatonin production increases as it becomes dark and is supressed to a degree by light. Melatonin causes drowsiness by lowering the core body temperature. It has been found that the hormone is also released when one is stressed which can occur while in flight. The body reacts to the untimely release of melatonin and disrupts the circadian rhythm, which raises the body temperature and lowers it at the wrong time of day. It naturally will take time for the bodies internal clock to readjust to a normal rhythm, and, if travelling to a different time zone, the body has to adjust to a different day night cycle. Aims The main aim of this study and experiment is to see if all long haul flights, irrespective of direction, result in a degree of jet lag as reflected by one of the affected circadian rhythms, namely body temperature. The study aims to determine whether the hypothesis is correct. An additional aim is to see if average body temperature is lowered during the flight and fluctuates less than in a normal 24 hour cycle. Should there be enough suitable participants, another aim is to see whether people over the age of 30 take longer to return to their normal body temperature circadian rhythm than those under the age of 30. • 31. The Stereotypes Against Tattoos As time progresses, the stigma against tattooing has evolved, taking on many subject positions including social class, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and age. Each subject position has developed through the Ancient, Modern, and Postmodern eras. Some subject positions on tattoos, like the five mentioned before, have invoked anxiety in society across eras, altering the cultural discourse of contemporary society. The tattoo fashion statement s origin from the Ancient Era in European cultures was far from appealing. At that time, tattooing was viewed as a mark of infamy or a moral blot (Caplan 1). For instance, in Indian ethnic culture, women used temporary Henna tattoos during weddings. Ethnicities in India traditionally used [Henna] for celebrations and right of passage (http://www.pbs.org /independentlens/newamericans/culturalriches/art_henna.html) for marriages, coming of age ceremonies, births, or religious festivals. These tattoos were considered auspicious and were used by only high caste women. This social custom proves that the tattoo s role in social class still existed across cultures and ethnicities, but its role in this social hierarchy was a positive one, unlike the branding usage in the western cultures of the Ancient era. Because lower caste women did not have access to temporary tattooing, many of them permanently tattooed designs on their hands for their weddings, to still have the auspicious presence of the art on their hands. This separation between high and low caste women in the same ethnicity is another example that illustrates the intersection of the subject positions ethnicity and social class. But as time progressed from the Ancient to the Postmodern era, the social barriers of using Henna in India diminished significantly. In present day, Henna is one of the many forms of tattooing that has been culturally appropriated and widely used. Though its ancient roots are still firmly ingrained in Indian society, western society has changed the cultural discourse on Henna tattoos by transforming it into a form of fashionable, temporary adornment without any occasion connections , stirring anxiety in many ... One problem with online pharmacies is that there are only four approved ones. Any others may be potentially dangerous. These other websites, though they may be completely legal, and they may be only selling prescription drugs, might not be safe. They don t carry your medical information only your physician does. Communication is one of the foundational building blocks of any relationship. When distance is factored into the communicative properties of a relationship, the relationship tends to suffer. The downfall of fish in the Atlantic Ocean is a result of numerous factors such as certain fishing techniques, climate change, and pollution. One type of fishing technique that is causing serious damage to marine life is bottom trawling. Bottom trawling is a form of fishing that involves a large net, about 60 meters wide, and dragging it along the bottom of the sea with heavy weights from a trawler. Bottom trawling causes irreversible damage to coral life and slow growing fish species, for example the Orange Roughy s (Slime Head) species has decreased more than 90%. History: Switzerland evolved over many centuries from a loose alliance of small self governing towns and states, beginning with the confederation of Uri, Schwyz and Nidwalden in 1291, to a fully fledged federal state of 26 cantons. Despite periods of political, social and religious unrest, unity prevailed in the Old Swiss Confederacy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 52. Don Pio Pico Don Pio Pico, a renowned figure of early Mexican/American culture, was known for his exquisite fashion sense, intelligence and leadership, whose family experience with early California authority and religion progressed the integration of both societies. During his childhood, Pio s father isn t just a symbol of his leadership, as he moves from a man of wealth and taste to an inspirational political force, whose father becomes a symbol of his political rise in defining his own identity. Nonetheless, I found the Pico mansion to be quaint, surrounded by growing grapes and many other native plants, like rosemary, agave, and lavender, along with pillars and skilled crafted objects by the family, perhaps, directly tied to their Mexican, Spanish, African and Italian roots. The Adobe is built of thousands of earthen blocks. The fact that most of the walls are original is a testament to the skill of the masons who built it. Inside the dwelling are many multicultural items pertaining to early Christianity, family portraits and tools used for farming. The old wood and block structure brings forth a sense of achievement by a man whose long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 53. Federal Budget Cuts For Domestic Programs And Foreign Aid... During the activity, I chose federal budget cuts for domestic programs and foreign aid. I cut foreign aid in half. I do not think that America needs to help the world anymore. We have already helped out a lot and we should only help towards people that really need it, such as starving Africans, instead of funding wars overseas. I cut the pay of civilian federal workers by 5 percent. People in the federal government get paid more and more every year while citizens of our country get paid a lower minimum wage than a lot of other places in the world. I cut 250,000 government contractors. There are more contractors than government officials, which means more money spent on a government that does not fully have the needs of the country in mind. In addition, I chose federal budget cuts for the military. I reduced the number of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to 30,000 by 2013. We do not needthe troops in Iraq or Afghanistan anymore. The war is over. Let the country figure out what it needs to do by itself. We helped create the uprising there, so we can help diminish it by reducing troops. I also chose federal budget cuts for healthcare. I enacted medical malpractice reform. I think it is important that our doctors research as much as they can about a procedure or a medicine, so that they can provide the proper care for a patient and reduce the risk of getting sued. Moreover, I reduced the tax break for employer provider health insurance. Employers should not tax employees on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. What Happens During A Preliminary Hearing In Federal Court A criminal prosecution usually begins with an arraignment: A preliminary hearing (aka a prelim, a probable cause hearing, PX and a preliminary examination) is very similar to an arraignment, but it provides the defendant a greater opportunity for counter argument. In essence, a preliminary hearing is a trialbefore the trial. It is during the preliminary hearing that the judgeor magistrate decides whether there is enough evidence for the accused to stand trial. When making his or her determination, the judge/magistrate uses what is referred to as the probable cause legal standard. This standard helps him or her decide whether the prosecution has produced a sufficient amount of evidence to convince a juryof the defendant s guilt. What is the Legal Standard of Probable Cause? The standard of conviction and the legal standard of probable cause are very different. The standard of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During a preliminary hearing in federal court, the government s attorney (Prosecutor) will present evidence to the judge/magistrate: The prosecutor may choose to present physical evidence and/or call in witnesses to testify. The prosecutor s goal is to prove to the judge/magistrate that there is enough evidence for the case to go to trial and convince a jury of the defendant s guilt. Once the prosecution has presented all its evidence and its witnesses have testified, the defense is usually given the opportunity to respond. The defense typically has the chance to cross examine any of the witnesses the government has presented. In addition, any other evidence against the defendant may be called into question. While each case is unique, the defense usually has the right to call witnesses and provide evidence as well. The goal of the defense is to show the judge/magistrate that the prosecution does not have a strong enough case to take to trial and, therefore, convince the judge/magistrate that the case must be ... • 55. Shingles Summary Prior to reading the article I had an idea of what shingles was, and heard some information regarding the epidemic of shingles, but never knew exactly what it was. While reading the article I discovered that shingles is a viral infection caused by the reactivation of the varicella zoster virus, which is actually the same virus that produces chickenpoxthat produces a painful skin rash within the host. Since shingles is a part of the herpes family it usually appears as a strip of blisters anywhere on the body. Another interesting fact that I came across within the article, was that a host with shingles is able to provide direct transmission of the chickenpox s with the help of an open rash or sore. Naturally you would expect the person to automatically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
