King Arthur and Lancelot
Excalibur The sorcerer Merlin retrieves Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake for Uther Pendragon,
who secures a brief alliance with Gorlois, the Duke of Cornwall. Uther s lust for Cornwall s wife
Igrayne soon ruins the truce, and Merlin agrees to help Uther to seduce Igrayne on the condition that
he gives Merlin whatever results from his lust. Merlin transforms Uther into Cornwall s likeness with
the Charm of Making. Cornwall s daughter Morgana senses her father s mortal injury during his
assault on Uther s camp and, while Igrayne is fooled by the disguise and Uther impregnates her,
Morgana sees through it, watching Uther as Cornwall dies in battle. Nine months later, Merlin takes
Uther s son Arthur. Uther pursues but is mortally wounded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Years later, the undefeated knight Lancelot blocks a bridge and will not move until he is defeated in
single combat, seeking a king worthy of his sword. Lancelot defeats Arthur and his knights, so Arthur
summons Excalibur s magic and defeats Lancelot, but Excalibur breaks. Arthur is ashamed of abusing
the sword s power to serve his own vanity and throws the sword s remains into the lake, while
admitting his mistake. The Lady of the Lake offers a restored Excalibur to the king, Lancelot is
revived, and Arthur and his knights unify the land. Arthur creates the Round Table, builds Camelot,
and marries Guenevere while Lancelot confesses that he has also fallen in love with her. Arthur s half
sister Morgana, a budding sorceress and still bitter towards Arthur, becomes apprenticed to Merlin in
hopes of learning the Charm of Making from him. Lancelot stays away from the Round Table to avoid
Guenevere. He meets Perceval, a peasant boy, and takes him to Camelot to become a squire. Sir
Gawain, under Morgana s influence, accuses Guenevere of driving Lancelot away, driven from us by a
woman s desire , forcing Lancelot to duel Gawain to defend his and Guenevere s honor. The preceding
night, Lancelot duels himself in a nightmare and awakens to find himself wounded by his own sword.
Arthur hastily knights Perceval when Lancelot is late to the duel, but Lancelot appears just in time and
defeats Gawain while nearly dying from his wounds. Merlin heals him, and he rides

The Trends Of Violence Throughout The United States
1. Describe the trends of violence throughout the history of the United States. How do the rates of
violent crime in the United States compare to rates of these crimes internationally?
During ancient times and the Middle Ages, crime was basically a rural problem rather than a urban
problem and it wasn t until after the 1960s in the United States that urban rates for homicide exceeded
those of rural areas. In Canada, the rural homicide rate still exceeded the urban rate in the 1970 and a
number of studies have shown that countries with greater inequalities in income distribution have
higher murder rates. In the Unites States, racial disparity is highest in arrest rates for crimes of
violence and the arrest rate for blacks is about eight times the rate of whites.
Prior to the 1930s, the United States had no national crime statistics but information reflects that at the
turn of the twentieth century, violent crime rates were equal to the present levels. Although the willful
homicide rate declined from its peak in 1933, this dip in crime was somewhat misleading due to better
treatment methods and more survivors of crime but by the seventies, the sheer volume of violence had
surpassed the means of recovering victims. At the beginning of the early 1990s, the United States was
enjoying unprecedented low levels of criminal violence although the rate of homicide by black, urban
juveniles exploded due to the crack cocaine epidemic, poverty, single parent households, educational

DISCUSSION
The above graph depicts the average Rockwell C Hardness achieved by each sample. This average
disregards missing data or data that was noted as questionable. The graphed averages demonstrate the
general trends of the different types of steels that were subjected to a heat treatment and quench
media. Samples 1, 3, and 4 show a similar hardness after water quenching but differing characteristics
during the other quenching types.
Sample 3 achieved a higher Rockwell C rating than its initial As Received hardness with every type of
quench.. Whereas samples 1, 2, and 4 softened during the annealing process but increased in hardness
with the other quenching medias.

Although the exact carbon content cannot be definitively determined based solely off of this
experiment, it allows for a logical path to hypothesize on each samples characteristics.
1. Sample 1 demonstrated characteristics of a medium carbon steel. It softened during the annealing
process and progressively hardened with each increase in quench rate.
2. Sample 2 demonstrated characteristics of a low carbon steel. It softened drastically during the
annealing process and progressively hardened with each increase in quench rate, but never achieved a
very high rating.
3. Sample 3 demonstrated characteristics of a high carbon steel. It did not soften during the annealing
process, and rapidly hardened with quench media, plateuing in its RCh rating.
4. Sample 4 demonstrated characteristics of a medium high carbon steel. It softened during the
annealing process, did not achieve a high RCh during air quenching, but proceeded to achieve a high

Levi s Not by Jeans Alone
With other companies starting to encroach upon the Jeans market share, Levi s decided to introduce a
new product. With the goal to gain profits, Levi s pursued diversification with the new product. This
product was formal clothing for men.
Levi s divided the consumers into five segments based on demographics, attitudes and beliefs. Q2 and
Q1 appeared to be desirable target segments, however, Levi s decided to focus on the Q2 consumers,
the classic independent males. These consumers were well dressed, cared about their appearance,
shopped alone and mostly at specialty stores. They weren t price sensitive and preferred wool/wool
blends in conservative colors.

Levi s decided to place their product in department stores as they had good relations with the retailers
due to their volume sales of jeans. They did not have any real relationship with the specialty stores
where the independent male shopped. Rather than placing their new products which would be
considered as high end in these specialty stores and where they would be among the lower price range,
they chose to place their products in the department stores where their products showed a deviation
from the regular Levi formula and were considered very pricy as compared to other high end
department store brands such as Haggar s. This price raised some concerns among the retailers as they
were unsure if Levi s formal wear would move out of the stores at a required pace. Also, due to price
quality inference, if Levi s was placed in a specialty store, the Q2 customer might prefer to buy a more
expensive product. Levi tried to sell these formal clothes in the same stores as their casual clothes for
the same segment of customers. Customers saw these formal clothes at the same place priced higher
than the casuals, and therefore found them to be expensive.
Due to the above reasons and lack of promotion, Levi s achieved only 65% of their sales target. They
promoted the wrong product under their brand, for the wrong price at the wrong place. They failed to
understand the needs of their customers.
Levi s would have been able to avoid these mishaps if they changed their target

Reflection About Hunger
You ask me what is hunger? Listen to me. Here I am, famished, empty, and with every little feature of
my bones exposed and the rumbling of my stomach near you. I will tell you. Hear me out. This is not
a joke, nor a pleasant position to be in. Yet, when you think of hunger, you say to yourself, Oh yes, I
ve been hungry before. I ve missed breakfast. Then, my stomach starts to growl, big deal. No, you
have it wrong. Put yourself in my shoes where I desire just a morsel of food in the dumpster in the
alley.
Hunger is being thankful for the hamburger meal someone cheerfully gave to you. With my stomach
aching for a meal, an individual dressed in modesty spots me out from the busy crowd. My clothes
were covered in muck from laying on the grease smudged concrete from that night; however, that
individual approaches me with charm and politely asked how was my day. I told them I was doing
fine, but a meal right now would be great. The individual hands me their lunch they were going to
have for work and wishes me a great day. I looked at the bag like a child being loose in a candy store.
With glee, I opened the McDonald s bag and pulled out a Big Mac meal. I consume each bite
viciously, leaving no crumbs like it was my last time eating. I cried with gladness because I hope I can
thank that person again one day. It was my first meal since three days ago. Hunger is dumpster diving
in the alley behind a restaurant. It was a daily routine for me, and I must quickly get it before

The Prayer Of A Good Shepherd
We are celebrating today the fived Sunday of Ester. During these past weeks we have celebrated the
victory of Christ over death, hear about his mercy, about his love, about this care and protection as a
good shepherd. Many readings during this time have come to us, to our help; today we received the
main commandment love. In the prelude, we were able to hear the fruits of preaching of the apostles.
In the second that we just heart we have an image of the New Jerusalem, the promise to those who
fulfill Gods commandment, finally the gospel, which is the apex of today celebration we can see what
really matters, what is really important: LOVE!

Some years ago I accompany a group of youth of the parish to the WYD in Rio De Janairo. The most
important day this pilgrimage is the vigil night and the following mass with the Pope. The vigil and
the mass took place in Copa Cabana Beach. To get there on time we had to walk for 15 miles. We start
to walk, we we happy, talking a having a good time. Everything was fine until a girl, stumbled upon a
stone, she fell, and sprained ankle, bruised forehead and much of the arm was scratched. We were all
worried; we helped as we could, hope to find a hospital soon. I determined that she could not walk and
said, do not you worry, continue, I stay here and then I pick up the return. We all looked at each other.

Physical Environment Of Denmark
Since the end of the last ice age, Denmark has gone from a small hunter gatherer society, to a super
power during the Viking era, and slowly transformed into what it is today. Although not considered a
super power in today s standards it is still a thriving society, with citizens that are some of the happiest
in the world. This is possible due in large part to their economy. The Danish military is small but
completely capable of defending itself while simultaneously providing support to its allies. The
physical environment of Denmark plays a significant part in what has made the country successful. All
of these things combined truly make Denmark a model to live by. Denmark is a country located in
Europe with the capital being Copenhagen. It is comprised of land located on the peninsula known as
Jutland, as well as several islands and hundreds of even smaller Islands, all of which are located east
of Jutland in the Baltic Sea. Denmark shares its southern border with Germany, while Norway and
Sweden are located to the north and east respectively. In addition to the mainland, Greenland and the
Faroe Islands are territories of Denmark. However, they exercise home rule and govern themselves.

Performance Appraisal In The Army
Performance appraisal is one of the most intricate and imperative issues that we do in the Army. So we
need current quarterly statement on each soldier. Then on enlisted personnel we need it to be done
more often and evaluate there performance by having face to face evaluations weather is good or bad.
Organizations in both the public and private sectors like the government we tend to be a bit relax and

Monetary PA is wonderful but not all should be in this case for loyalty work.
Performance appraisal, when properly carried out, can help to fine tune and reward the performance of
present employees. We all know our strengths and weakness of any negotiated performance appraisal
are its ability to promote candid two way communication between the supervisor and the employee
person being appraised.
Why Performance Appraisal?
Strengths are then negotiated from employee and employer for the PA with the ability to promote a
two way communication among them and have the employee take more responsibility for improving
performance.

Problems Associated With Comorbidities And Its Effects On...
Closely associated with comorbidities, is the concept of addressing any vulnerabilities or hurdles that
consumers might face, not only in undertaking treatment, but in their day to day life. These hurdles
include such things as impairments in vision, hearing or coordination.11 Another core concept that is
pertinent to consider in management of these young people is to recognise that they are in an
incredibly dynamic phase of development. Each individual will be referred at a different emotional,
psychological and physiological stage, and each individual will evolve, mature and develop at a
different trajectory. The clinician must take this development into consideration to ensure firstly, that
the treatment is appropriate for the individual s current level of development, and secondly, that the
treatment considers the likely development course, and evolves with this development.12 In my own
clinical experience, it is not uncommon for families, schools and organisations to present in crisis,
with the hope of obtaining immediate answers and rapid improvements. However, despite these many
agendas, it is important for clinicians to have a clear mind and sound knowledge of human learning
and behaviour modification. With both the psychological and neurobiological understanding of the
formation of learnt behaviours and habit formation, it is crucial that both the clinician and the
consumers are aware of the need for appropriate treatment durations, and understand that it may take

Abstract:
Technology has had and imperative influence in almost every aspect of life. It has also made an
impact on how we learn today. Some question how effective learning could be via the internet, while
most stick with the familiarity of traditional classroom learning. Either option you choose still
substantiates that technology has changed the way we learn and will continue to expand on its
influences with the ways we choose to progress educationally. Each educational platform has it
disadvantages, however the advantages pose alternatives that can suit an individual s educational
needs.
With technology influencing almost every aspect of common activities, it s not unusual for it to
influence the way we learn. The traditional classroom environment is being challenged with the
implementation of online learning. With major technological advances over the last 20 years, many
traditional classroom environments have been replaced with online learning platforms that create
convenient, accelerated, and comprehensive learning opportunities around the world. Although some
would beg the differ that online learning can replace classroom education completely, online education
continues to improve allowing it to become a more trustworthy alternative for learning. Since the
traditional classroom environment pacifies familiarity in education some opt for

The Importance Of Diversity In College Campuses
Overall diversity in college campuses has been held back with the SAT because of its unfair standards.
In an article called These Four Charts Show How the SAT Favors Rich, Educated Families. written by

lower education. Keep in mind that the article was published by The Washington Post which has won

Front Porch Campaign Essay
The 1920 presidential election proved to be memorable as well as historically significant for a number
of reasons. This time period is surrounded by important events in American history. It falls directly
after World War I, starts the roaring twenties, and leads the United States into the Great Depression.
Warren G. Harding was elected president over all other candidates, with promises of life going back to
normal conditions. At this point in time, American citizens were desperate for one thing: their old
normal life. The election of 1920 was important because our nation had just gotten out of World War I,
the vote ended in a landslide, and Harding changed the United States for the worse.

Rather than facing his opponent, James Cox, Harding campaigned against Wilson. Aforementioned,
Wilson was paralyzed, therefore Harding was only running against the idea of Wilson or what he had
previously stood for. He promised America change, but not a progressive change that Wilson had
provided. He gave the people the promise of normalcy, or a promise to restore the country to the state
it was in before the war. To enforce this promise even more severely, he ran a more personal
campaign. This was called a front porch campaign and it s purpose was to get supporters to come see
and talk to him on his actual front porch. It had worked for other presidents, but a prodigious reason
he did this was to be contrary to Wilson. Harding wanted to portray himself as calm and collected
compared to Wilson s campaign that took him and his failing ideas all over the United States.

Comparison Of Drowning Girl And Pablo Picasso s Guernica
From the very first week of joining Art 101 I knew that I wanted my final art project to be a trio of
paintings for my mother, to pay homage to her career as an artist. Unfortunately, deciding the theme or
subject matter of these paintings was a much more difficult decision. The lecture on narratives had the
most influence on the final idea because I felt it resonated with my art style the greatest. I love using
small details or minor symbols to tell a story and the examples of narrative art were some of my
earliest sources of inspiration including Roy Lichtenstein s Drowning Girl and Pablo Picasso s

I originally started painting flowers simply because it was what my mother used, but throughout the
project, I found my own unique sources of inspiration. My mother explained to me that she used
certain flower types for their curves and painted the petals to have figure like appearances. During the
sketching and painting process, I figured out I really love how nature can appear so simple and
beautiful and simultaneously being extremely complex. I felt as though using a simple object in nature
would be an interesting connection to some of the people I know best in the world because there is so
much backstory behind the object, much like backstory behind my siblings. It was especially fun
figuring out the flower meaning and choosing the best one for each sibling. I used a blue iris for my
brother because a blue iris represents wisdom, admiration, and inspiration and I have always been
competing against my brother while admiring his differences. My sister is represented by a red

The Gold Standard
As I signed my paycheck and handed it to the bank teller, I began to wonder if the number on that one
piece of paper truly held its worth. This is a question we all ask in today s world; does
$100 really equal $1 OO? In the past 4,000 years, the world has experimented using different types
and styles of monetary systems (Forbes.com). The United States of America (U.S or U.S.A) has, over
her few short years of being a country, been through a number of these monetary systems which have
caused the value of our dollar to change. Many of these systems were ineffective and poorly

Even though throughout history many nations have used a bi metal system, in the late 1800s when
America was experimenting with monetary systems it became too complex to have paper money for
both gold and silver. Many farmers and ranchers in the middle of the U.S. pushed for this system as it
would offer another slightly easier to obtain currency; silver. If this system had been fully adopted it
would have helped thousands of small businesses quickly, but ultimately would have been a jumbled
disaster as they would get poorer thus leaving the nation without food. These complexities led to their
eventual abandoning of that system.
The second to last generic system that the U.S. tried was the Gold Standard. The Gold
Standard is a mono metal style system that has been around since well before the New Testament time
period. Some suspect that since the beginning of time men have used gold as money in one form or
another. The fourth Secretary of the Treasury of the United States of America Albert
Gallatin, is one of these believers. He once said, Gold and silver are the only substances, which have
been, and continue to be, the universal currency of civilized nations ... it may be safely inferred, that
they have also been found superior to any other substance in that permanency of value. Due to people
having realized the universality of silver and gold, a person could at one point in time potentially

The major drawbacks include allergies, decreased nutritional value, increased toxicity, and antibiotic
resistance ( Harmful Effects of the Agent ). First, because genetically modified organisms are created
through a mixture of various genes from other organisms that might cause an allergic reaction,
consuming these products poses as a threat to the individuals who have serious allergic reactions.
Theoretically, the genetically modified foods have low nutrition because of the gene modification
process. For instance, genetically modified soybeans produce fewer phytoestrogen compounds,

Greek Civil War Research Paper
The Kingdom of Greece
Following the Second World War, Greece was plunged into decades of strife and political turmoil. The
Kingdom of Greece falls somewhere in the middle of the superpower confrontation during the Cold
War. Originally, Stalin and Churchill had agreed to let Britain run a non communist Greece, yet the
nation struggled between the Western and Eastern blocs and their respective superpowers influence
[1]. This struggle originates from the German and Italian occupation of the Kingdom of Greece during
the Second World War. During this occupation, many resistance groups of different ideologies began
to emerge. Following the war, while the Greek government was still taking refuge in Egypt, the
occupational government dissolved, leaving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More people died in the Civil War than in the occupation of the Second World War [1]. Consequently,
the nation became extremely polarized, and with the Kingdom s victory in the Civil War, many Greeks
sought refuge in communist countries. The Kingdom of Greece experienced a coup d état in the
following years, by a group of rightist and non communist officials in 1977 [2]. The latter coup was
led by George Papadopoulos, who installed a military regime in the Kingdom of Greece. When this
fell apart, a conservative government led by Constantine Karamanlis dissolve the monarchy and
legalize the KKE. Later, in 1981, the center left government of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement
allowed former DSE to return to Greece after taking refuge in other communist nations [3].
Although Greece officially aligned itself with the United States and its Western Bloc allies, the nation
was tremendously split between the influences of the Soviet Union and the United States. The lack of
a stable government in the immediate aftermath of the war led to a brutal Civil War. Furthermore,
decades of political strife between the leftist and rightist wings of society led to an increasingly
unstable nation. Greece truly was caught between the two superpowers spheres of

Age Related Hearing Loss
Presbycusis The human body in itself is an incredible masterpiece, but particularly how we as humans
hear and perceive sound is amazing. Our ears are used in various aspects of life including enjoying
music, following directions, and just its use in everyday conversation. As we grow older our hearing
abilities tend to decline which can be a natural part of the aging process. Hearing loss that is
associated with older age is known as presbycusis (Huang, Q., Tang, J. , 2010). There are more people
that suffer hearing loss in their later years due to increased life expectancy (ŠESTIĆ, M. R.,
MILIĆEVIĆ, S. (2013). As Frisina wrote, in association with the recent expansion of the aged

According to research conducted in both the United States and Australia, the average elderly person

substantial amount of time where their ability to communicate effectively has been affected negatively

majority of those who are diagnosed choose to not wear their hearing aids (Öberg, M. 2015). In a
separate study, the participants who had a range of ages from 55 80 were asked how often they would
use their hearing aid. The answers given were then organized into three categories, Always, when I

participants was doubtful about when to use it. Typical comments from those who were doubtful
included I will try to use them, and I hope I could get used to them (Öberg, M. 2015). The age range
for the oldest group was 76 to 80. This demonstrates that the older that someone is who has the loss,

Essay on How the Great Depression Changed the Federal...
The period before the great depression, the 1920s, was known as the Roaring Twenties or the Jazz age.
This Era was marked by artistic movement such as the creation of Jazz music and a rich supply of
American writing. During this time the federal government had been providing some aid to the states
but leaving the bulk of the power to the states, which is known as a dual federalism. It also marked the
end of modest social traditions and wave of materialism encouraged by increased customer spending
with the open use of a new concept called credit.
As the Great Depression rolled in, a cry for the involvement of government in matters of the economy

Three days after taking office FDR established the Emergency Banking Act, that closed all the banks.
Once the banks were reopened they were put under close supervision, also the treasury was authorized
to issue more currency. After the Emergency Banking act, during the rest of FDR s first 100 days in

So as the New Poor Law states people were extremely cruel and discriminated the undeserving poor
they said it was god who decided if you were poor or not even though the church did try to help. For
example the hymn all things bright and beautiful, includes the lines The rich man at his castle, the
poor man at his gate, God made them high or lowly, and ordered their estate . However most people
felt pity on the deserving poor an example of this was rich women that used to make themselves look
generous, in front of their rich women friends, these were the types of people that Andrew Reid was

Andrew Reid put together many Asylum meetings where he would do speeches to rich people and
make them feel for the poor. An example of his speeches was one he done on the 3rd of July, 1927 at
the London Tavern Let it be remembered that the case is for the infant orphan for which charity has a

Leadership Skills to Manage Diversity in the Military
Essay 5: How Do Leaders Manage Diversity In The Military?
Introduction
Given the proliferation of missions that often have multiple objectives aligned to counterterrorism,
humanitarian aid, and national defense, the alacrity at which the armed forces are expected to integrate
and quickly deliver results in a foreign nation is increasing. The cross cultural competency (3C) model
is designed as a foundation for streamlining the cultural assimilation process, providing leaders and
subordinates with a more efficient approach to quickly understanding and become effective in a
culture different than one s own (Abbe, Gulick, Herman, 2007). As the alacrity and intensity of
cultural assimilation is increasing across all branches of the military, combined with greater levels of
mission complexity and required collaboration of foreign governments and agencies, developing a
effective 3C model is essential for mission success. The intent of this analysis is to provide insights
into how leaders can manage diversity more effectively in the military, especially those called upon to
serve in cultures significantly different than one s own. Training in cross cultural competency often
includes references to the Hofstede Model of Cultural Dimensions and the specific attributes of
collectivism versus individuality, two potentially polarizing aspects of military leadership in foreign
regions (Goodman, 2012). The Hofstede Model of Cultural Dimensions is complimentary ot the 3C

Ethical Standard Of Ontological Equality
There are many standards to assess a society s level of equality. First, the ontological equality means
that all the people are equal in the eyes of God. Second, the equality of opportunity means that all
people should have the same opportunities for advancement, and it is judged into the same standards.
Third, the equality of condition means to be equal under the conditions that can help the people to
achieve their goals. Forth, equality of outcome is the idea about that everyone in a society should end
up with the same rewards regardless of his or her starting point, opportunities, or contributions.
In my opinion, the most ethical standard is the standard of ontological equality. In the past, it was

So it should use to make the differentiation means growth and promoted, not an excuse for injustice

The Salem Witch Trials For The Puritan Community
Texas Tech University A Town Submerged in Hysteria Cornelius Asmerom History To 1877 Professor
Corye Beene October 23, 2014 The Salem Witch Trials The Salem Witch Trials were a devastating
time period in 1692 for the Puritan community which resulted in 20 innocent people executed.
Pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts 9 years before the Puritans landed in Massachusetts Bay.
Puritans wanted to purify the Church of England and ultimately strive to build a utopian society. John
Winthrope who was the first governor of the Massachusetts bay colony described this society as a city
upon a hill . This city upon a hill was not going to achieve itself on its own once the Puritans got to
Massachusetts Bay. The type of government enforced within their community was a theocracy,
meaning that God is the true leader of society, and he expressed his action and will through men and
women. This required the community to attend church daily, and if you did not show up people would
come and look for you. This outdated form of government enforced and allowed the sexist practices of
women because of the strong belief that women were susceptible to the Devils charm. Women had no
legal or property rights, marrying as a teenager and having many kids was the their life. This
community did not tolerate nonconformity, everyone did the same thing and acted the same way. Anne
Hutchinson was a victim of the strict beliefs of the Puritans. Anne Hutchinson was arrested for heresy

Searle s Ideas
When Searle talks about institutional facts I believe that he has great insight into the way people take
items and place values on them. These values are universally accepted and become a social reality in
our social world. These social realities have functions that man has assigned to them to dictate what
they are intended to do. I will walk through Searle s features needed in a social reality and it will
become clear that all social realities have these features. But where Searle ideas are flawed is when he

relative to a system of values (Searle, 15.) He also says that functions...are always observer relative
(Searle, 14.) With these statements, he is saying that all things that have functions are imposed by the
person that is observing the function and that no function is ever intrinsic or found in nature. To
further his point he gives an example that by our observation we can say that the heart pumps blood,
[but we cannot say that]...the function of the heart is to pump blood (Searle, 14.) This is because we
would be imposing our subjective value on what we see the heart doing because we value life over
death. My problem with this thinking is that the heart must be alive to pump blood, which is its normal
state, and if I did value death over life, then the heart would die and decompose into a matter that is
not a heart. Therefore the heart in its natural state is alive and pumping blood, which means that the
function of the heart is to pump blood (Searle, 14.) This is the same when we say that the function of
the eyes is to see,

Themes And Characters In The Book Amaroq The Wolf
A. The writer s style is his personal choice dependent on the setting, plot and characters means these
three aspects of the story will be taken by the author and decided how it will best tell his story. The
writer must use his skill with words to develop his style for the story, since the reader is completely at
the mercy of the writer waiting for his words to write so he can feel, hear, see, smell and contemplate
what is going to happen next. The writer must tell the reader what the world looks like and how it
changes, who is in it and where the reader is going. One writer will deal with a genre completely
different from another, developing their own style and vision. Often a writer s style can become so
familiar readers they can recognize the author just from reading a passage.

became concerned with who would become his successor. Stalin and Lenin had a strong political
relationship and Stalin would visit Lenin often to discuss the direction of Russia and the Soviet Union.
However, one day Stalin cursed at Lenin s wife and Lenin was understandably very upset. This began
the breaking down of their relationship. Lenin began heeding the warnings from Trotsky about Stalin s
power hungry ways and he began keeping detailed notes of disapproval about Joseph Stalin. Although
Lenin s Testament was meant to be a public account of Lenin s fears in terms of the Soviet Union
under Stalin, Stalin had allied with Lev Kamanev, the acting Premier during Lenin s last year, and
Grigori Zionoviev, head of the Comintern, and through their combined influence, they had suppressed

from happening. On January 21, 1924, Lenin died. Thanks to Kamanev and Zionoviev s influence,

Abstract This study aim to investigate the needlepunched nonwoven textile material based composites.
Epoxy as a bonding agent and polypropylene based needle punched nonwoven fiber mat (PP600gsm)
as a reinforced component of composites were used. The solid particle erosion and mechanical
properties of needlepunched nonwoven fiber mat reinforced composites were investigated. The solid
particle erosion wear behavior of needlepunched nonwoven polypropylene composites was evaluated
using irregular shape silica sand particles with the size of 250, 350 and 450μm. These sand particles
were accelerated along a 50mm long nozzle of 3 mm diameter at a varying impact velocity, angles of
impingement and stand of distance. Taguchi analysis was carried out on the basis of Design of
experiments (DoE) approach to establish the inter dependence of operating parameters. Analysis of
variance (ANOVA) and S/N (signal to noise) ratios have been performed on the measured data.
Eroded surfaces of composite samples were examined by scanning electron microscopic (SEM) to see

Louisville Slugger History
I just don t care to switch to another brand, said the phenomenal player, Derek Jeter, about Louisville
Slugger (Oldham). Louisville Slugger is a company who manufactures and sells baseball bats based in
Louisville, Kentucky. They have been selling baseball bats made of wood for over one hundred and
twenty years. Louisville Slugger is a section of a company named Hillerich and Bradsby. Hillerich and
Bradsby started with the wooden baseball bat, but started to branch off into other sectors like golf and
other baseball equipment. They both thrived because of a man named John A.(Bud) Hillerich who
invented the wooden baseball bat in 1884 that players use today ( Dicks ). Their wooden baseball bats
were what Louisville Slugger started with, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While J.F. Hillerich s company was growing, Bud worked for him. One afternoon, Bud, who was
seventeen, snuck away from work to see his favorite baseball player play on the Louisville Eclipse (
History ). The Louisville Eclipse was a baseball team in the late 1880 s in a two year old American
Association. The player was the team s star Pete Browning. Browning known as The Old Gladiator
was in a hitting slump (Oldham). A hitting slump is when a baseball player can t seem to get on base
with a hit many times. Baseball players at that time used either a flat bat like a cricket stick or a round
bat, but the bat was oddly shaped or weighted with curves. Both the bats had so many handle styles to
them. The regulations were very little at the time. The bat had to be less than forty two inches long and
less than two and a half inches thick. On the day that Bud came to see him play, Browning broke his
bat. Thus, Bud went over to Browning and convinced him to come with him to his Dad s shop to make
a new bat (Oldham). They grabbed a slab of wood to make the bat (Cantu). The wood was from a
White Ash tree. They began handcrafting the bat from the wood with Bud s carpentry skills and
Browning s knowledge on a good baseball bat (Oldham). They used a wood lathe, turning chisels, and
other tools (Cantu). Bud would tweak the bat, then Browning wood swing it. They kept doing this till
Browning said it was just right. The bat was named the Falls City Slugger . The name, Falls City
Slugger , came from the stretch of rapids in the Ohio River ( Timeline ). The next day Browning got
three hits on three at bats with the bat

Nature Methaphors in The Battle of Issus and Starry Night...
Since the beginning, nature has been one of mans many inspirations. It is used to convey emotions and
bring meaning in many ways in art. During the Northern Renaissance Albrecht Altdorfer was one of
the most distinguished painters known for his expressively detailed landscapes. The Battle of Issus
done by Altdorfer focused on nature to further amplify Alexander s victorious battle. Three hundred
and sixty years later, the Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh creates a work that also showed how nature
can bring emotion and significance to his painting Starry Night. Albrecht Altdorfer s The Battle of
Issus in one of the artist most famous works depicting the exploits of historic heroes. [1] It was created
in 1529 on commission for the Munich ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Above the battle, in the sky nature seems to have it own dramatic conflict that elaborately mirrors the
historical battle of Issus. The Post Impressionism artist Vincent Van Gogh created his masterwork
Starry Night in 1889. Unlike the painting of Altdorfer, this painting was more personal and had the
conflict of man vs. himself. The painting of Starry Night took place in France while he was in the care
of the Saint Remy of Provence Psychiatric Hospital. Van Gogh yearned for a life that was calm and
harmonious during his seemingly never ending depressive state. In Starry Night Van Gogh s point of
view is omniscient as well but, he detaches himself even further. He Van Gogh creates a night sky
embellished by the swirling of its clouds and the illuminating blaze from its stars. He uses lines that
are arabesque in continuation that creates a fluid like design over the work making it harmonious.
Located below the dynamic sky is a row rolling hills in which the artist used different tones to create a
sense of depth in his work by the use of atmospheric perspective however, the painting still has a look
of flatness. The hills lead the eyes to a small calm inviting town created using simple shapes. The
church in the valley towers over all the homes as if it was a guardian. The tall steeple of the church is
not able to touch the magnificent sky however, there is an eerie cypress tree in the foreground it is able
to touch the

Durf Epilogue
Janden sat Gaurn and Durf at a table near the bar and door. That put as much distance between them
and the strangers as possible, so each group could talk more comfortably. Then he brought three large
bowls of stew, two ales, and a cup of yak s milk for Durf. The yak stew had large chunks of meat and
vegetables in a thick gravy. It made a satisfying meal that came with a side of conversation; albeit,
little of it included Durf. Besides, it was much the same conversation as any other day. Eventually, the
talk came back to the strangers.
No good guessing. It s time I got more about those two. Janden got up and walked to the back with
three pairs of eyes following him. He heard the noise of Gaurn easing himself away from the table.

We wander where we please. Annoyance showed on Kibby s face and in his voice and passed like an
ephemeral snowflake on water. He affected the smile and tone of innocence. We re just peaceful
wayfarers. Our apologies if we have offended. He stood, made a show of examining a gold piece,
reach his hand out as if expecting to deposit the coin into Janden s hand. Janden stood still ignoring
the gesture. Well, if that s your way, we shall leave. He tossed the coin on the table where it rolled and
fell into the reeds on the floor. A satisfied smile flashed on his face. For your trouble. No doubt it s
more than you d see in a year. He and Slagg picked up their gear and headed for the door. Kibby
turned back. We ll come around to teach you courtesy one day soon. He and Slagg laughed as they
went through the door.
Janden felt his face redden and his jaw and fists clench. He struggled with his anger. The Stonefoot, a
warrior clan, believed striking out in anger or provoking someone to be shameful and a sign of
weakness. His honor hung on controlling his emotions as much as his courage. The proper action was
to walk away. If Kibby wanted a fight, he would have to draw his sword

Genetically And Modified Dairy Cattle Essay
Cows produce a protein in their milk called BLG and many infants are allergic to this protein. Two to
three hundred infants are allergic to cow s milk, and BLG allergies are seemingly a large part of this.
Various organizations are trying to investigate ways to manipulate the genetic material in the modified
dairy cattle with the main goal of producing milk that doesn t contain the lethal BLG protein. Daisy is
a genetically modified cloned cow and whom does not produce milk containing the BLG protein but
does however have the gene for it. But the mRNA for the BLG protein has become nonfunctional.
Once the protein has been manipulated the cow containing the modified gene is cloned to produce a
calf with the same genetic material. This cloned cow will then not produce the protein. This technique
is very useful to produce a herd without the protein to gather more milk. Because of this protein
produced (BLG) this causes a lot of people and infants to become very sick and ill. Therefore by
creating a herd of cows using the processes of Gene Knockdown and Cloning this would not only cut
out the lethal protein of BLG, but this will also create cows that don t possess the BLG protein and
therefore creating healthy milk for all to drink.
Gene knockdown refers to experimental techniques by which the expression of one or more of an
organism s genes are reduced. This reduction of genes can occur either through genetic modification
(alters the genetic makeup of an organism using

  • 3. The Trends Of Violence Throughout The United States 1. Describe the trends of violence throughout the history of the United States. How do the rates of violent crime in the United States compare to rates of these crimes internationally? During ancient times and the Middle Ages, crime was basically a rural problem rather than a urban problem and it wasn t until after the 1960s in the United States that urban rates for homicide exceeded those of rural areas. In Canada, the rural homicide rate still exceeded the urban rate in the 1970 and a number of studies have shown that countries with greater inequalities in income distribution have higher murder rates. In the Unites States, racial disparity is highest in arrest rates for crimes of violence and the arrest rate for blacks is about eight times the rate of whites. Prior to the 1930s, the United States had no national crime statistics but information reflects that at the turn of the twentieth century, violent crime rates were equal to the present levels. Although the willful homicide rate declined from its peak in 1933, this dip in crime was somewhat misleading due to better treatment methods and more survivors of crime but by the seventies, the sheer volume of violence had surpassed the means of recovering victims. At the beginning of the early 1990s, the United States was enjoying unprecedented low levels of criminal violence although the rate of homicide by black, urban juveniles exploded due to the crack cocaine epidemic, poverty, single parent households, educational ... They did not have any real relationship with the specialty stores where the independent male shopped. Rather than placing their new products which would be considered as high end in these specialty stores and where they would be among the lower price range, they chose to place their products in the department stores where their products showed a deviation from the regular Levi formula and were considered very pricy as compared to other high end department store brands such as Haggar s. This price raised some concerns among the retailers as they were unsure if Levi s formal wear would move out of the stores at a required pace. Also, due to price quality inference, if Levi s was placed in a specialty store, the Q2 customer might prefer to buy a more expensive product. Levi tried to sell these formal clothes in the same stores as their casual clothes for the same segment of customers. Customers saw these formal clothes at the same place priced higher than the casuals, and therefore found them to be expensive. I will tell you. Hear me out. This is not a joke, nor a pleasant position to be in. Yet, when you think of hunger, you say to yourself, Oh yes, I ve been hungry before. I ve missed breakfast. Then, my stomach starts to growl, big deal. No, you have it wrong. Put yourself in my shoes where I desire just a morsel of food in the dumpster in the alley. Hunger is being thankful for the hamburger meal someone cheerfully gave to you. With my stomach aching for a meal, an individual dressed in modesty spots me out from the busy crowd. My clothes were covered in muck from laying on the grease smudged concrete from that night; however, that individual approaches me with charm and politely asked how was my day. I told them I was doing fine, but a meal right now would be great. The individual hands me their lunch they were going to have for work and wishes me a great day. I looked at the bag like a child being loose in a candy store. With glee, I opened the McDonald s bag and pulled out a Big Mac meal. I consume each bite viciously, leaving no crumbs like it was my last time eating. I cried with gladness because I hope I can thank that person again one day. Closely associated with comorbidities, is the concept of addressing any vulnerabilities or hurdles that consumers might face, not only in undertaking treatment, but in their day to day life. These hurdles include such things as impairments in vision, hearing or coordination.11 Another core concept that is pertinent to consider in management of these young people is to recognise that they are in an incredibly dynamic phase of development. Each individual will be referred at a different emotional, psychological and physiological stage, and each individual will evolve, mature and develop at a different trajectory. The clinician must take this development into consideration to ensure firstly, that the treatment is appropriate for the individual s current level of development, and secondly, that the treatment considers the likely development course, and evolves with this development.12 In my own clinical experience, it is not uncommon for families, schools and organisations to present in crisis, with the hope of obtaining immediate answers and rapid improvements. However, despite these many agendas, it is important for clinicians to have a clear mind and sound knowledge of human learning and behaviour modification. With both the psychological and neurobiological understanding of the formation of learnt behaviours and habit formation, it is crucial that both the clinician and the consumers are aware of the need for appropriate treatment durations, and understand that it may take ... If this system had been fully adopted it would have helped thousands of small businesses quickly, but ultimately would have been a jumbled disaster as they would get poorer thus leaving the nation without food. • 28. Leadership Skills to Manage Diversity in the Military Essay 5: How Do Leaders Manage Diversity In The Military? Introduction Given the proliferation of missions that often have multiple objectives aligned to counterterrorism, humanitarian aid, and national defense, the alacrity at which the armed forces are expected to integrate and quickly deliver results in a foreign nation is increasing. The cross cultural competency (3C) model is designed as a foundation for streamlining the cultural assimilation process, providing leaders and subordinates with a more efficient approach to quickly understanding and become effective in a culture different than one s own (Abbe, Gulick, Herman, 2007). As the alacrity and intensity of cultural assimilation is increasing across all branches of the military, combined with greater levels of mission complexity and required collaboration of foreign governments and agencies, developing a effective 3C model is essential for mission success. The intent of this analysis is to provide insights into how leaders can manage diversity more effectively in the military, especially those called upon to serve in cultures significantly different than one s own. Training in cross cultural competency often includes references to the Hofstede Model of Cultural Dimensions and the specific attributes of collectivism versus individuality, two potentially polarizing aspects of military leadership in foreign regions (Goodman, 2012). Pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts 9 years before the Puritans landed in Massachusetts Bay. Puritans wanted to purify the Church of England and ultimately strive to build a utopian society. John Winthrope who was the first governor of the Massachusetts bay colony described this society as a city upon a hill . This city upon a hill was not going to achieve itself on its own once the Puritans got to Massachusetts Bay. The type of government enforced within their community was a theocracy, meaning that God is the true leader of society, and he expressed his action and will through men and women. This required the community to attend church daily, and if you did not show up people would come and look for you. The Louisville Eclipse was a baseball team in the late 1880 s in a two year old American Association. The player was the team s star Pete Browning. Browning known as The Old Gladiator was in a hitting slump (Oldham). A hitting slump is when a baseball player can t seem to get on base with a hit many times. Baseball players at that time used either a flat bat like a cricket stick or a round bat, but the bat was oddly shaped or weighted with curves. Both the bats had so many handle styles to them. The regulations were very little at the time. The bat had to be less than forty two inches long and less than two and a half inches thick. On the day that Bud came to see him play, Browning broke his bat. Thus, Bud went over to Browning and convinced him to come with him to his Dad s shop to make a new bat (Oldham). They grabbed a slab of wood to make the bat (Cantu). The wood was from a White Ash tree. They began handcrafting the bat from the wood with Bud s carpentry skills and Browning s knowledge on a good baseball bat (Oldham). They used a wood lathe, turning chisels, and other tools (Cantu). Bud would tweak the bat, then Browning wood swing it. They kept doing this till Browning said it was just right. The bat was named the Falls City Slugger . The name, Falls City Slugger , came from the stretch of rapids in the Ohio River ( Timeline ). The next day Browning got three hits on three at bats with the bat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Nature Methaphors in The Battle of Issus and Starry Night... Since the beginning, nature has been one of mans many inspirations. It is used to convey emotions and bring meaning in many ways in art. During the Northern Renaissance Albrecht Altdorfer was one of the most distinguished painters known for his expressively detailed landscapes. The Battle of Issus done by Altdorfer focused on nature to further amplify Alexander s victorious battle. Three hundred and sixty years later, the Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh creates a work that also showed how nature can bring emotion and significance to his painting Starry Night. Albrecht Altdorfer s The Battle of Issus in one of the artist most famous works depicting the exploits of historic heroes. [1] It was created in 1529 on commission for the Munich ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Above the battle, in the sky nature seems to have it own dramatic conflict that elaborately mirrors the historical battle of Issus. The Post Impressionism artist Vincent Van Gogh created his masterwork Starry Night in 1889. Unlike the painting of Altdorfer, this painting was more personal and had the conflict of man vs. himself. The painting of Starry Night took place in France while he was in the care of the Saint Remy of Provence Psychiatric Hospital. Van Gogh yearned for a life that was calm and harmonious during his seemingly never ending depressive state. In Starry Night Van Gogh s point of view is omniscient as well but, he detaches himself even further. He Van Gogh creates a night sky embellished by the swirling of its clouds and the illuminating blaze from its stars. He uses lines that are arabesque in continuation that creates a fluid like design over the work making it harmonious. Located below the dynamic sky is a row rolling hills in which the artist used different tones to create a sense of depth in his work by the use of atmospheric perspective however, the painting still has a look of flatness. The hills lead the eyes to a small calm inviting town created using simple shapes. The church in the valley towers over all the homes as if it was a guardian. The tall steeple of the church is not able to touch the magnificent sky however, there is an eerie cypress tree in the foreground it is able to touch the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Durf Epilogue Janden sat Gaurn and Durf at a table near the bar and door. That put as much distance between them and the strangers as possible, so each group could talk more comfortably. Then he brought three large bowls of stew, two ales, and a cup of yak s milk for Durf. The yak stew had large chunks of meat and vegetables in a thick gravy. It made a satisfying meal that came with a side of conversation; albeit, little of it included Durf. Besides, it was much the same conversation as any other day. Eventually, the talk came back to the strangers. No good guessing. It s time I got more about those two. Janden got up and walked to the back with three pairs of eyes following him. He heard the noise of Gaurn easing himself away from the table. Gentlemen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We wander where we please. Annoyance showed on Kibby s face and in his voice and passed like an ephemeral snowflake on water. He affected the smile and tone of innocence. We re just peaceful wayfarers. Our apologies if we have offended. He stood, made a show of examining a gold piece, reach his hand out as if expecting to deposit the coin into Janden s hand. Janden stood still ignoring the gesture. Well, if that s your way, we shall leave. He tossed the coin on the table where it rolled and fell into the reeds on the floor. A satisfied smile flashed on his face. For your trouble. No doubt it s more than you d see in a year. He and Slagg picked up their gear and headed for the door. Kibby turned back. We ll come around to teach you courtesy one day soon. He and Slagg laughed as they went through the door. Janden felt his face redden and his jaw and fists clench. He struggled with his anger. The Stonefoot, a warrior clan, believed striking out in anger or provoking someone to be shameful and a sign of weakness. His honor hung on controlling his emotions as much as his courage. The proper action was to walk away. If Kibby wanted a fight, he would have to draw his sword ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Genetically And Modified Dairy Cattle Essay Cows produce a protein in their milk called BLG and many infants are allergic to this protein. Two to three hundred infants are allergic to cow s milk, and BLG allergies are seemingly a large part of this. Various organizations are trying to investigate ways to manipulate the genetic material in the modified dairy cattle with the main goal of producing milk that doesn t contain the lethal BLG protein. Daisy is a genetically modified cloned cow and whom does not produce milk containing the BLG protein but does however have the gene for it. But the mRNA for the BLG protein has become nonfunctional. Once the protein has been manipulated the cow containing the modified gene is cloned to produce a calf with the same genetic material. This cloned cow will then not produce the protein. This technique is very useful to produce a herd without the protein to gather more milk. Because of this protein produced (BLG) this causes a lot of people and infants to become very sick and ill. Therefore by creating a herd of cows using the processes of Gene Knockdown and Cloning this would not only cut out the lethal protein of BLG, but this will also create cows that don t possess the BLG protein and therefore creating healthy milk for all to drink. Gene knockdown refers to experimental techniques by which the expression of one or more of an organism s genes are reduced. This reduction of genes can occur either through genetic modification (alters the genetic makeup of an organism using ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
