Characteristics InStreet Scene, By Ian Frazier
Narrative Assignment
Narrative writers use many different techniques to describe and enhance the theme and/or main
idea of their story. TO make the plot as realistic as possible, authors use imagery and other
figurative language to help the reader better imagine the story. Hyperboles, metaphors, and irony
can also be used to prove a point and make the story more humorous or suspenseful.
3 Stories Using these Characteristics
The narrative Street Scene by the author Ian Frazier uses vivid imagery and excellent dialogue
to help better immerse the reader in the story. A great example of this would be when he
describes the people helping save the victim in a very detailed way, proven by the quote; A slight,
brown haired woman was giving her mouth to mouth resuscitation, while a well built brown
skinned man with hair close cropped like a skullcap was performing chest massage. Using imagery
like this can allow the reader to feel like they are in the action, and imagine the situation in their
head exactly how it is told in the story.
Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell uses imagery as well, describing not only his surrounding
but his thoughts in superb detail as well. He also uses suspense techniques to keep the reader
interested in the story. One such example of him describing his thoughts in detail would be . I
thought then and I think now that his attack of must was already passing off; in which case he
would merely wander harmlessly about until the mahout came

Music Therapy Personal Statement
When I went to college, I planned to be a musician. I spent my life studying music, and I was
passionate about composing music theory. I spent hours looking at the keys, and I explored
different methods to make unique sounds. I was required to take electives the first semester; I
chose to take psychology. My first essay demonstrated the psychological dynamics of music
therapy. As I studied psychologymore in depth, the concepts paralleled those I studied in music
theory. I began to examine different theoretical approaches to understand various aspects of
behavior. My interest in music as a profession waned; I was obsessed with how the mind works
and I decided to change my major to psychology.

Ford Pinto Fire
The Ford Pinto Fires CaseA corporation s social responsibility and ethical actions have long been a
discussion for consumers, suppliers and the government throughout the years. The corporations
sole responsibility was to provide a maximum financial return to shareholders (Carroll, 1991). This
paper discusses the ethical decision process in regards to the Ford Motor Companies Pinto Case.
Discussion of the different methods of ethical decision making and how Ford executives and
employees might have applied them and if they had or had not if there might have been a different
outcome.
Background.
In 1971 Ford Motor Company introduced the American consumer to the new Ford Pinto. The car
was developed to compete with the smaller foreign vehicles. CEO Henry Ford II promoted Lee
Iacocca to President of the company for his innovation to enter this market. Ford rushed the Pinto
into production even after it failed several crash tests (Trevino Nelson, 2014). The vehicles were
found to have a faulty fuel tank that exploded with a low speed impact. Engineers of Ford tried
several ways to remedy this but due to the short productions schedule it was determined it would be
too costly and delaying production was not an option. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is unclear as to exactly how many were actually killed by the Ford Pinto explosive fuel tank
but in 1980 the State of Indiana versus Ford Motor Company case made history (Becker, Jipson,
Bruce, 2012). The methods Ford used in deciding to put the Pinto into circulation were unorthodox
to anything from historical reference. The most controversial was the cost benefit analysis done by
Ford where the company basically put a price tag on a life in comparison to fixing the fuel tank
issue in the Pinto (Trevino Nelson,

The Handmaid Analysis
Offred, who s real name we may never know, is the most significant character in the story who is a
Handmaid and is telling the story. She remembers sleeping in a gym at a place called, the red

about the history/love of what used to take place there. Aunt Sara and Aunt Elizabeth, act as their
guards to shush the womanup from talking. This was one main reason why their are important
characters. Offred existence is surrounded by room. A white room that is very girly and has not a

Difference between Anabolic Steroids and Blood Doping
I.Introduction Exercise is very important in order to keep fit and healthy. However, like
everything else in life; there are limits and boundaries that should not be crossed. Over the years,
gym goers and professional athletes have started to cross this limit by looking for alternatives
for diligence; as a result, they have turned to abusing steroids or blood doping to improve their
performance. My research aims to thoroughly explain the differences between anabolic steroids
and blood doping. The reason of me choosing this topic is because I myself am a gym goer, and I
devote myself to maintaining my body and health, hence I would like to learn whether taking
these shortcuts are worth the risks or not. Also, due to the rise of famous athletes taking
performance enhancers, I would like to ascertain how these enhancers work and how many
athletes have managed to deceive drug tests. A.Research Design The main aspects that I plan to
focus on during the course of my research are: the definition of anabolic steroids and blood
doping, the methods of using anabolic steroids and blood doping, the side effects of taking
anabolic steroids and blood doping, the reasons people take these performance enhancers,
notorious athletes who have abused performance enhancers; and finally in my conclusion, I shall
state possible solutions and advices as well as my opinion on anabolic steroids and blood doping.

Buck s Transformation In The Call Of The Wild
Buck, the main character in Jack London s novel Call of the Wild undergoes drastic change
from living in his cozy house in California to trudging the cold and dreary lands of the Klondike.
London s novel describes the life of Buck, a simple housedog who is used as a bet and is then
brought to an unfamiliar territory, and an unfamiliar lifestyle. Buck becomes a sled dog, learning as
he goes. His life is vastly different from what it was once, and he has to adapt and evolve to his
new routine. Along the way, Buck endures new challenges such as his struggle for leadership, his
willingness to relinquish power to his owner, and internal struggle of wanting to be both wild and
civilized. In Jack London s novel, Call of the Wild, main character Buck evolves from a
domesticated pet, into a wild, power hungry wildebeest. When Buck is first introduced to his new
way of living, a man he calls, the man in the red sweater , beats him senselessly. At first, Buck...

After coming into some money, John takes Buck into the woods to camp with him. While in the
forest, Buck begins to hear a call of sorts, beckoning him into the wild. Many times Buck wants
to respond to this call and plunge head first into the life of the wild dog, but his love and
adoration for John Thornton keeps him from doing so. This internal struggle is different from
any other struggle Buck faces in this novel. Buck s primitive instincts call him to the forest, but
his learned lifestyle, his domestic nature, keep him bound to John Thornton with a bond he
cannot explain. Ultimately, Buck s struggle to choose between savagery and civilization is decided
for him when John is killed. Buck sees this death as cutting the ties to his former life of shelter, and
he proceeds to join and rule a pack of wolves. Buck clearly evolves from the civilized house pet he
once was into a savage alpha male of a wolf

1.Etiology Hypertensive heart disease is associated with high blood pressure related to the heart
s arteries and muscles. Blood is transported to the heart by coronary arteries. High blood pressure
causes blood vessels to become narrow which can cause the blood flow to the heart to slow and

Diagnosis Pulmonary embolisms are diagnosed through several ways; x rays of the chest are
done to get a good picture of the lungs, MRIs are done to produce images that are more detailed
than x rays, blood tests are sometimes conducted to check for a natural clot dissolving substance
in the blood, venography s are performed to get x ray images of the veins in the lungs. CT scans
are done to get cross sectional views of the lungs. Duplex Venous Ultrasound are performed by
using radio waves to check the flow of blood and to see if there are any clots existing in the legs.
The most effective way of diagnosing a pulmonary embolism is through a pulmonary angiography,
this is when the doctor makes an incision and inserts tools into the veins of the lungs and then puts
a dye though the veins to detect any blockages.
4.Treatment For the larger and more life threatening clots, most often surgeries are the only option
to get them removed. For smaller blood clots, blood thinners and clot dissolvers are used to break
up the clots in the lungs.
5.Prognosis The prognosis of a pulmonary embolism can range from very good to very bad. Some
pulmonary embolisms are so severe that death occurs in seconds to minutes. For others, after
surgery or clot busting drugs, patients are usually put on blood thinners to reduce the risk of having
another pulmonary embolism that could potentially be fatal. People who survive the embolism and
immediately get treated usually have a good outlook, but

The Toronto Blue Jays And The City
October 14th, 2016 was an exciting day for baseball fans in Toronto, Ontario. The Toronto Blue
Jays and the city prepared to face off against Cleveland in the American League Championship
Series. Catch anything out of sorts about that last sentence (specifically relating to the teams)? Read
it one more time. The full name of the team the Cleveland Indianswas purposefully left out.
Selective vocabulary like this is also used by the Blue Jay s play by play announcer Jerry
Howarth. Howarth s protest efforts towards racial terms in broadcasting will be the focus of this
paper, along with an article written about him.
The Canadian Press (2016) article summarizes an interview conducted in 2016 by the radio station
Sportsnet 590AM pertaining to Howarth s non usage of the word Indian before the aforementioned
Championship Series. He has been announcing for the Blue Jays for 36 seasons but explains his
silent protest did not start until after the 1992 season (MLB Advanced Media, 2016). That was the
year the Toronto Blue Jaysdefeated the Atlanta Braves in the World Series of Baseball. After the
1992 series was over, Howarth received a letter from an Indigenous, Canadian baseball fan
addressing the usage of words such as Braves . Howarth (2016) claims he was touched by the
letter, and wrote the fan back telling him we would no longer use such words going forward (as
cited in The Canadian Press). Jerry Howarth resists the dominant narrative of racial stereotypes

School Environment And The Classroom Environment
Do you remember ever as a kid dreading going to school? Somedays you just really didn t feel
like it, but you had to anyway. Now, was it you didn t enjoy school whatsoever, or was it really
the environment they put you in at school? Well, kids today are facing those exact same problems
each day. It s time to get to the bottom of it. The school environment children spend most of their
day is a place many kids across the nation do not enjoy. There are many flaws in today s school
environment that some may not realize. However, many schools tend to blame the kids by telling
them they simply do not wantto work and they are acting lazy. Even if there is a small percentage
of students where that really is the case, but for the other ninety percent, that is completely false,
and it is crucial we emphasize that. School environment issues include children being allowed to
have their cell phones in the classroom which is decreases their work time, the excessive amount of
homeworkkids are being faced with which is causing some kids to cheat and giving them anxiety
and stress issues, and the debate about extending the school which would push back students
schedules causing the to get less sleep, but still having to wake up just as early as before the in the
morning. To begin, some students and teachers are wishing to bring cell phones into the classroom
more often. They are becoming rather eager to have cell phones be the next step in transforming
our classrooms into techonology

Rousseau s State Of Nature
Rousseau defines the state of nature as The hypothetical, prehistoric place and time where human
beings live uncorrupted by society (Editors). According to Rousseau, in the state of nature people
have complete physical freedom and are at liberty to do whatever they want (Editors). The state of
nature for Rousseau is where human beings have not discovered rationality or morality (Editors).
The state of nature keeps us from turning psychopathic as opposed to society who Rousseau says is
to blame for our behavior and short comings.
Rousseau interpretation of the state of nature was a man will act like a savage if they need food,
sexual satisfaction, and sleep (Giampietri). In the process of acting like a savage they fear hunger
and pain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In general, Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau all agree the only thing that is important to a man other
than self preservation is his immediate needs, so luxuries are not seen as vital in his opinion.
Rousseau compares a savage looks to that of a wild animal, the difference being a man s free will
and the ability of self improvement (Giampietri). Still self improvement can either bring progress or
misfortune to mankind. In Rousseau s opinion the goodness in the state of nature is polluted thanks
to civilization and progress leaving us no chance to go back to that state.
However, Rousseau s aspect on mortality in the state of nature is there is no room for law, right
and mortality (Giampietri). In other words, we do not harm others because we have a natural
distaste to seeing people in pain or suffering. Such as, Hobbes and Locke assumption that we will
fall in a state of war which Rousseau feels they over estimates. Rousseau imagines in state of war
a man will feel horrible for the harm caused to other fellows. To Rousseau in a state of nature man
are equal. Rousseau attitude towards private property is different than Locke s view. Rousseau feels
the only outcome that will occur of owning private property is inequality, mutual dependence, and
jealousy.
When the social contract first came out many people did not agree with it. In fact, the Paris
authorities immediately banned it after its arrival (Delaney). The social contract job is to tell how a

Prevention For Homelessness
Improving Preventions for Homelessness
A) Organizational Culture and Readiness Assessment
Homelessness has been around for many years and today there are still many people who are
homeless or living in some sort of substandard condition. Although most Americans have adequate
food and shelter along with other necessities, the homeless do not reap any of these basic benefits.
Instead, millions of homeless people do not have suitable shelter to sleep in or food to eat. The
United states, a country that is considered one of the wealthiest places in the world still have not
conquered homelessness.

Evangelical Christianity Definition
During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the Tswana, Maale, and NigГ©riens
counterbalanced evangelical Christian mission colonization by incorporating local customs and
practices into Christianity. We will define and dissect the terms civilization and modernity to
describe how medicine and religion reinforced and changed African and white Christian cultures. I
define civilizationas a white, Christian ideology that formulated how missions historically oppressed
black Africans; evangelical missions rationalized white supremacy by claiming that inept and
inferior black Africans needed cleanliness and morality training. However, I define the term
modernity as a culturally hybrid African response to mission evangelism; after hearing... Show more

In the nineteenth century, legislation passed that empowered doctors with advanced education to
cleanse disadvantaged patients with biomedicine. Comaroff argues that biomedicine became...a
discipline, taking on the ethos of professionalism after the Medical Act of 1858, which limited
medical practice to well educated doctors (1997: 328, 326). After the Medical Act of 1858, only
wealthy doctors who learned advanced anatomical and physiological operations in prestigious
universities could practice medicine. With legal leverage, these doctors developed biomedicine as
a science in which medical tools, chemical liquids, and plant substances cured ailments and
cleaned urban decay. As British doctors gained socioeconomic status, media outlets claimed that
doctors engaged in heroic biomedical cures to save the urban poor from their foul behaviors and
miasmic living environments (Comaroff 1997: 326). Because city slum dwellers often had many
children, lived in close quarters, and could not afford to bathe, doctors sought to improve their
health by teaching them proper hygiene. Indeed, Comaroff notes that the London Mission Society
(LMS) advertised the power of doctors to heal social ills in unsanitary British cities to associate
cleanliness with prestige and dirt with deficiency (1997: 332). When LMS missionary David
Livingstone arrived in

to change his sweat soaked cotton T shirts over and over again during two a days. Knowing that

In a TQM effort, all members of an organization participate in improving processes, products,
services, and the culture in which they work (ASQ, 2016). TQM can be used based off eight (8)
key elements that most if not all companies use. The key elements are customer focused, total
employee involvement, process centered, integrated system, strategic and systematic approach, fact
based decision making and lastly communication. The first element of TQM is the most important
element, which is the customer. According to ASQ the element of customer focused is so that the
customer ultimately determines the level of quality. No matter what an organization does to foster
quality improvement training employees, integrating quality into the design process, upgrading
computers or software, or buying new measuring tools the customer determines whether the efforts
were worthwhile (ASQ, 2016). This element alone allows the company to use the customer at

The H. scobina pries open barnacle plates then uses its proboscis to feed on the organism inside. It

The largest abiotic factors the H. scobina faces is the wind currents and exposure to air, so it has

The H. scobina has the structural adaptation of a strong muscular foot to open up plated organisms,
this helps it feed in this environment as well as keeping it surfaced while large wind and ocean

When Leadership And Policy Making Collide
When Leadership and Policy Making Collide Purpose of the Study Effective leadership is a must
in any employment, especially in the school system. Principals must be very attentive at all times.
Safe schools and a positive environment will enhance any student learning ability. Administration
work very hard to help students stay on track in a positive manner. A single problem can lead to
school disruptions and hurt the students learning environment. One principal experienced
firsthand, how effective leadership makes a difference during school uniform policy
implementation. Dress is a word that is roughly shielded as a custom of free speech under the first
amendment of the Constitution. The higher courts acknowledged the position that schools reflect
on the American people. In today s society most states have laws which authorize schools to
regulate dress code as long as it is connected to school environment or school safety.
Superintendent and school principals has a tremendous task of making sure these provisions are
followed by students and staff. How was the Study Conducted? The study was conducted in a rural
school district at Valley View Middle School. The district population is 29, 235 students.

Imagine for a longing to be free, free from the restricting walls of the hospital and therapy room.
Freedom was a goal that Anne and Tom had for their son William. They wanted freedom of the
traditional therapy setting because watching their child make little to no progress therapy session
after therapy session left Anne and Tom discouraged. They wanted nothing more for their son
than to thrive and develop the new skills that they knew he could. William has hypotonia, or low

their first goal was to get William to learn to walk. Watching his therapy sessions in the traditional

not much more that she could do there in the hospital for William. That s when she recommended

Examples Of Discourse Communities
REDO DISCOURSE COMMUNITY
Everyone has the same goal in a discourse community, achieving a set goal. Whether it be getting
work done or doing something for fun everyone has a goal in a group. The reason why people
come together to form a group is usually one they cannot achieve alone. Playing a game alone
makes it reasonably boring but with other people involved makes the game more fun. Unlike most
discourse communities the players in the game Dota 2 do not do a physical activity. While ninety
percent of discourse communities come together to finish manual labor, the community of Dota 2
comes together to have fun. This proves that not all discourse communities form to do work.
First, all discourse communities have a set goal. People come ... Show more content on

A way to pick teammates is to usually make friends and have fun with them. Older Timers within
the group you can usually pick out because they have a more negative view on the game and are
harsh to get onto people for doing something that was out of sorts. A new player usually is very
positive starting out and is very open minded about what they can do. This usually fades after a
month of playing the game. You also can tell who s a new player based on what they buy and
how they play. I ve had the luxury of interviewing a young teen that is on a small, competitive
team. When the teen was asked why does he play Dota 2 he responded, at first I played it
because it looked interesting, but nearly 1000 hours later, I play because I know so much about
the game it makes it more fun to make decisions; plus I like playing with friends. This concludes
that not all players play necessarily for the bragging rights of just being good , players play to be
able to have a fun activity with their friends or just simply make friends. It s ridiculously easy to
make friends in game considering if you do, these people see you from when you started to where
you currently are now. This gives them a sense of being with you from when you just began
playing the game. Understanding team roles also helps anyone become a better player within the
game. To understand team roles a person must be playing for a

Mexican War On Drugs
Critics outside and inside of Mexico who are witness to the casualties of the Mexican War on Drugs
are keen to blame Felipe Calderon s administration (the Mexican government) for the escalation of
conflict within the country starting in 2006; arguing that the fast militarization and the lack of the
state s strength augmented such conflict. In the article Did the Military Interventions in the

There is evidence of correlation between conflict and military intervention. But according to the
studies, military intervention s increase in conflict was only a short term issue, initially, military
intervention upset the local balance in power between cartels and local police which is particularly
relevant if these bodies were infiltrated by organized crime thereby increasing the violence in the
short term (Espinosa and Ruin, 26), but that the same interventions decreases the homicide rates in
the long term. Thus military intervention is not the cause of conflict in the form of homicide rates,
but rather in the change in power in local authorities. But can one still blame the Mexican
government for the increase of conflict? According to Michel Coscia and Viridiana RГos, President
CalderГіn did not start the Mexican Drug War and violence did not start because of the interactions
of two or more cartels operating in the same territory (RГos, 22). By implementing a computerized

Collecting Crime Data Analysis
Collecting crime data is very important to the criminal justice system. It helps in various ways from
showing increases of certain crimes in different regions to how often different crimes are
committed. There are three major crime data sources in the united states, official statistics,
victimization survey data, and self reported data.
Starting with official statistics, the main source is the UCR which stands for uniform crime reports.
The UCR Program collects statistics on violent crime (murder and nonnegligent manslaughter,
forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) and property crime (burglary, larceny theft, and
motor vehicle theft). All the data collected is compiled by the FBI. The FBI gets all of the data
from police and sheriff departments. Only a majority of departments participate because
participation is voluntary which leaves the data as a whole to some extent inaccurate. The UCR
will report not only the number of crimes reported but can also portray the rate of occurrence.
How the occurrence is presented is through the crime rate. The crime rate is The actual number of
reported crimes standardized by some unit of the population. (Gibson 2016) The data collected
from the law enforcement departments for the UCR is separated into part 1 and part 2 offenses.
Part 1 is for the more serious crimes such as murder rape, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

NIBRS stands for the national incident based reporting system. This began in 1982, in order to
collect more detailed and comprehensive crime statistics. (Gibson 2016) The NIBRS does a good
job portraying crime data but it isn t used by most law enforcement agencies because of the long
tedious process it takes to collect all the information required by the NIBRS. One benefit is that
there is no hierarchy rule, that the UCR does have, which means in multiple crime cases all crimes
will be reported instead of just the most serious

Stalins Rise To Power Essay
Question: How far did Stalin achieve and maintain what Kruchev described as the accumulation of
immense and limitless power , in the USSR between 1924 and 1945?
Between 1924 and 1945, Joseph Stalin was able to emerge as the leader of the USSR and maintain
what Kruchev described as the accumulation of immense and limitless power . Stalin s rise to power
was a combination of his ability to manipulate situations and the failure of others to prevent him
from taking power, especially Leon Trotsky. Stalin ruled the USSRfrom 1929 until his death in
1953. His rule was one of tyranny, a great change from the society that his predecessor, Lenin, had
envisioned. During his time of reign, Stalin put into effect two self proclaimed quot;five year ...

Also, Stalin was much more involved with the base of the Party and was thought to have worked
hard to get himself to the top. Meanwhile, Trotsky was seen as a man trying to push his way in.
Further damaging Trotsky, Lenin described him as possessing quot;...excessive self confidence...
and overly attracted by the purely administrative aspects of affairs... quot; Even though he
unintentionally projected Trotsky in this way, Lenin felt that if the removal of Stalin were not acted
upon, the conflict between Trotsky and Stalin would intensify, which would jeopardize the whole
Party. Combined with the Testament, Trotsky could have used the Postscript to obtain power, but
instead Stalin squashed it in the Central Committee.
Once eliminating Trotsky, Stalin s idea of, socialism in our country, inevitably meant that Russia
needed strength. The productions in the USSR had almost reached pre war levels by the mid
1920s, but the population of Russia had also increased by 20 million people. No matter, Stalin
assured that maximum efforts and resources would be given to the expansion and strengthening of
Russia herself rather than an effort to start a revolution elsewhere. This is explained in his famous
1931 speech, gaining power for himself. The people had nowhere else to turn to and needed a
leader. Stalin was there and knew what to do to make the people interested in his ideas, thus
acquired their trust and control. From these ideas, he created his first

Analysis Of Three Fundamental Assumptions Are Made
Throughout this policy paper, three fundamental assumptions are made:
1.The Murdell Flemming Model is a fundamentally sound method of analysis.
2.A global trend toward liberalization of free trade is both strictly current and strictly relevant to
Chinese economic growth.
3.The power dynamic between host country, home country, and Multinational Corporationis a
driving factor in cross regional mergers and acquisitions and thereby domestic economic growth as
measured by nominal gross domestic product.
The Murdell Flemming Trilemma or Unholy Trinity states that a government can only generate
policy that satisfies two of three general desires; these desires are exchange rate stability, capital
mobility, and domestic monetary autonomy (Cohen, 2010). Concerning the China, the general
international monetary choices should be capital mobility and domestic monetary autonomy. In an
era where multinational corporations are increasingly looking to cross regional mergers and
acquisitions to create value, it is more important than ever for China to retain capital mobility and
domestic monetary autonomy (Cross Regional, 2015). Through an examination of multinational
corporations and domestic monetary policy choices, the need for capital mobility and domestic
monetary autonomy become clear. This need is proven through the effects these policy choices
have on domestic monetary value and the subsequent consequences these effects have on cross
regional mergers and acquisitions. The

Since Columbus found the North American continent in 1492, our continent has constantly been
changing and adapting to new technology. Along with adapting to new things our continent has
been through many turning points. One of the most important and influential turning points was all
the events leading up to the Civil War and the Civil War itself. The Civil War brought about many
challenges for both the Union and Confederate states. However, the United Stateswas able to move
past their differences as a cohesive nation. Many have said that without the effects of the Civil War
slavery could still exist and the country might still be separated into Union and Confederate. The

My Interest Of Computer Science
My interest in Computer Science started at a young age, when I started taking lessons in BASIC
in school. As I continued my education in computer science with COBOL, C, C++ and SQL, this
interest grew into complete absorption with the subject throughout my school years. When the
time came for me to choose a major for my undergraduate studies, I confidently opted for
Computer Science which was a full fledged passion of mine by then. During my Bachelor s, I
enjoyed the curriculum immensely, and several of the subjects I was taught like Data Structures in
which Linked List, which is a dynamic structure whose length can be increased or decreased at
runtime, was my favourite topic. Java Programming won me over when I had to do a custom FTP
server 8 years ago where the file transfer was controlled by the server instead of being controlled by
client, Database Management System taught me about normalization of database a topic I enjoyed
as it is the foundation of every database and without which the task become arduous and can lead to
data loss. Object Oriented Systems concepts like polymorphism, inheritance, encapsulation and
abstraction were fascinating. Finally, while studying Operating Systems I understood the
importance of operating systems like Unix and Linux in today s competitive world. In order to gain
thorough knowledge of my studies, I undertook several projects during my undergraduate studies to
enhance the theoretical concepts taught in class. Library Management

My Favorite Villain In The Legend Of Zelda
Who is your favorite villain? Maybe it s the evil Darth Vader, killing his own people in his
conquest, or Sauron, who is rarely seen but sends his armies off to stop Frodo. All villains have
something in common, they are a character in a story or play who opposes the hero (Merriam
Webster). This is especially true in video games, where most of the story is driven by the villain.
The Legend of Zelda, a popular game franchise, has had many villains in its time. Lord Vaati is
the most well written and well developed villain in the Zelda series. He appears in the series
multiple times and never fails to get the player interested. Lord Vaati is one of two recurring
villains in the Legend of Zeldaseries. He is first seen in Four Swords, but we are given more
backstory about him in Minish Cap. In Minish Cap, Vaati is trying to become the most powerful
magician, and tries to take over Hyrule in his quest for more power. He searches for an ancient
artifact known as the Light Force, which would give him ultimate power. In the end he is defeated
by the hero, Link, and is sealed away in a sword to return in later games, (Miyamoto). Every great
villain needs a goal, a motive, to drive him/her to commit their evil deeds. As stated in the article
What Makes a Good Villain , Villains, too, should also have understandable goals. Furthermore,
these goals should be rooted in that villain s psychology. (The Nook Press Blog). Vaati is no

Alice, Food, And Inner Desires
Alice, Food, and Inner Desires Lewis Carroll s whimsical journey into Wonderland has created a
fantasy worlds full of mystery and depth. In this essay I will discuss the links between the
consumption of food and the underlying desires behind consuming. In this essay I will argue that
food is used as a transformative device to enable Alice to voluntarily explore and involuntarily
supress her inner desires. Within the Lewis Carroll texts, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and
Through the Looking Glass and What Alice found there, Alice experiences two very different
encounters with food. Alice s Adventures in Wonderland delves into the idea of eating or drinking
for pleasure. In contrast, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There... Show more

There are close links between Alice s change in size and the gain of power. According to
Nicholson, consuming food is the material means of growth, where growth may be defined as
gaining power (39). This translates to the idea that Alice has power over her surroundings, she
desires to be omnipotent and break free of her inhibitions. Nicholson also explains that What is
killed does not die voluntarily. Therefore the creatures man eats must be weaker than he is (39).
Alice supports this idea when she consumes the cake labelled EAT ME (Carroll 12). Not only
does Alice consume the cake, but she does so to gain the power to transform so that she may
carry on with her pursuit of the garden. Alice s consumption of food in Wonderland not only
represents her need for power but also her need to fulfill internal desires. According to Garland,
Alice s attitude toward food...contrib[utes] to an understanding of the representations of sexuality
and subjectivity in Wonderland (25). This is reflected in Alice s quick desire s to eat and drink in
the first scene, despite the fact that she does not have any physical hunger. Garland also notes that,
the relationship Carroll presents between sexual females, desire, fear, and death is contrasted
strongly with female children, innocence, joy, and life (27). This suggests that although Alice
appears to be an innocent you

Prisons Ineffective In Prisons
Canadian prisons are ineffective at rehabilitating inmates due to overcrowded conditions and
failure of proper preparation of reintegration into society. Overcrowding is when more people are
placed into a confined space, than it can actually hold. Factors that lead to the cause of failure in
the correctional system consist of gender biases, cultural biases, and the lack of rehabilitative
resources/social support. Mandatory minimum sentencing and substance abuse also play a role in
increased incarceration rates.
When a crime is committed, the offender is taken to court where a judge will determine if the
offender is innocent or guilty. If the offender is found guilty, the penalties may include the
following; community service, a fine, or incarceration for a certain amount of time depending on
the severity of the crime committed. The purpose of the Canadian prison system is to serve justice
to both society, and the law breaker. Justice is served to society by punishing criminals with
isolation from society at large. The criminal is served justice through receiving rehabilitation in
order to successfully reintegrate into society, once released from incarceration. The focus of
Canadian prisons should first be in rehabilitating its inmates, and punishment should be its
secondary focus. However, punishment seems to be the prime focus and prison sentences have
become more of a standard solution, rather than an option. Simply because it is easier and more
effective.

The development of characters transpire as a result of significant events in their lives. Events
such as learning a new skill have the ability to transform a character s life. Estrella in Helena

passed away. This impacted Timothy a lot. He blamed the accident all on him and has still yet to
forgive himself. He doesn t break out of his shell very often anymore to have a good time

For this reason, the Prime Minister and his cabinet have to be from the dominant party or coalition
in the assembly. In the case where the President and the Assembly are from opposing parties, then a
situation known as cohabitation is created. Motions of censure are most of the time proposed by
the opposition following government actions that it considers highly inapt, they are purely
rhetorical this means that the party discipline should see to it that throughout a parliamentary term,
the government is never overthrown or given a motion of censure by the assembly (Constitution
Declaration 2011).
The Shura Council also known as the consultative council is a 264 member upper house of
Parliament that came to being in the 1980 s. In the Shura Council 176 members are directly
elected and 88 members are appointed by the President of the Republic for six year terms. One
half of the Shura Council is renewed every three years. The Shura Council s legislative powers are
limited and on most matters of legislation, the People s Assembly always has the last and final
word in the event of a disparity between the two houses.
There currently exist eighteen recognized political parties from across the political spectrum.

FDI In Tourism And Tourism s Impact On Tourism
Although tourism is the most liberalised sector under the GATS, especially on the mode 3
(commercial presence), there is astonishingly little empirical study on the impact of FDI on
tourism. Dwyer and Forsyth (1994) argued that the analysis of FDI impacts on tourism has been
ignored and has enticed less attention in the literature than what was supposed. Buckley and
Geyikdagi (1996) then pointed out that the difficulties in gaining information and data caused the
analysis of FDI on tourism has received little attention. UNCTAD (2007) stated that the complicated
analysis of FDI on tourism associated with the character of tourism that is not a singular activity.
Tourism consisted of many separated and related activities, covering food and beverage,
transportation, entertainment, sports, accommodation, culture, conventions, trade fairs, and
recreation. Tourism also involved an extensive variety of companies ranging from multinational
corporations ( MNCs ) to tiny enterprises, allowing a number of diverse scales and levels in the
market to partake in tourism. Some experts, nevertheless, analysed the adverse impacts of FDI on
tourism on the environment. Perrin (2001) showed how GATS has significantly increased FDI in
tourism. Putting Belek, Turkey as a case study, the increase of FDI has been followed by over
concentration in key areas of activity and primary locations, leading to the exploitation of other
resources in the region. Specifically, the constructions of

History Of San Francisco Bay
2.BACKGROUND The San Francisco bay was one of the best natural harbours in the world and
it was also the gateway to the Pacific Ocean. (Loomis, 1958) This fact meant that its bay would
become a leading trade centre. A rush of people were attracted to San Francisco because of its
port, the natural beauty and the gold rush, where thousands of people were brought in by ship.
This lead to a shortage in water in all areas and transportation services had to be improved to
provide enough water to all places. A ferry service was started that crossed the river from San
Francisco to Sacramento to carry heavy equipment and people to the gold fields in the time of the
gold rush and just thereafter. As the population grew the ferry service improved as

The Crime Of A Juvenile Gang Essay
A juvenile gang is a group of youth that causes intimidation and commit criminal acts to gain
power to be in control. According to a study done by David Pyrooz, a professor at Sam Houston
State University in Huntsville Texas, more than one million juveniles in the United States of
America is in a gang. The study found 40% of juvenile gangs are non Hispanic white and the rest
is Black and Latino. The study also found, 30% of those gang members were females. Most
youth who joins gangs do so around ages 12 or 13, but the peak age for gang membership is 14
and 15years old. Although gang membership is portrayed as a lifelong commitment, the average
gang member joins at age 14 and only stays in for about two years. Only 40% of all gangs will
allow females to join, and there are approximately 32,000 female gang members. There are many
factors why juveniles join gangs, and some of them are because it increases self esteem, they
have access to drugs to either sell or use them, and it gives the males opportunities to meet up with
other young females and have sex. A negative factor is peer pressure. Some factors why females
join gangs are sexual abuse and victimization, family dysfunctions, emotional disorders, exposure to
violence, and negligence. Some youths parents aren t in the home, they have nobody forcing them
to go to school, and then they start failing which leads to drop outs. Many juvenile gang prevention
programs were created in the United States, to provide services to

The past century saw major developments in the economic, social, political and cultural life of the
United States as it grew from a burgeoning industrial nation to the world s leading superpower. By
the 1900s, giant firms such as Carneige Steel, The Standard Oil Trust, among a few others
controlled 2/5th of the nation s marketing capital. This resulted in a rapid increase in the number of
industrial workers and even though the American society was growing wealthier overall, there were
several thousands that still lived not only in poverty but also far below the poverty lines. It all
began with rapid economic growth that was fueled with technological advancements in the field of

The Railroads comprised the first big business for America ad their systemization and
consolidation by the end of the 19th century brought about the development of large business
enterprises in the world. The Gilded Age, even though known for its advancements in the field of
industrialization was known to have been an era of serious social problems, hidden under the glitz
and glamour of precipitously evolving developments. The lessons of the railroads were applied to
other big businesses and were soon met with public outrage at the unscrupulous tactics, monopoly
control and sky high earnings of these affluent corporations. The number of industrial workers had
increased rapidly from 885, 000 to 3.2 million from 1860 to 1890 alone. Also, the American
Revolution of 1765 1783 had resulted in the dissemination of new socio political ideas, especially
considering that the American nation had succeeded and won its independence from the absolute
military power of its time. The ideals of social equality ran high. However, changes in trade and
commerce resulting from modern capitalism were a complete deviation from this vision. Thus,
arose grassroots organizations that would respond to the changes in society through labor
movements, the 1960s 70s feminist movement responding primarily to women s suffrage, civil
rights movements, antiwar activism and gay rights. As the American society continued to grow
wealthier, factory workers began to numb to

someone would deeply hurt their feelings, which could lead to a more serious case. Connie
changed Abuela s perspective about herself negatively. She comes out with tears in her eyes (Ortiz
Cofer). There are more consequences for mistreating someone. Mistreating someone would also
affect others feelings, for example Connie s mother who was also very deeply hurt by Connie s

Theme Of Nature In To Build A Fire
This is a famous short story by Jack London, which takes on a familiar theme, man vs nature.
The man is traveling by foot with his dog through the Yukon trail, on the way to a camp on
Henderson Creek. This man story is told from the third person omniscient point of view. At no
point is the story told from the dog s perspective. That means that the narrator knows the thoughts,
actions, and feelings of all the characters; in this case, To Build a Fire the narrator s characters are
the unnamed man and the dog who accompanies him. London description of this man and his
surrounding gives the readers a visual image of how the Alaskan wilderness looks like. It was cold
freezing and cold. The man s struggles to last in the bitter cold illustrate... Show more content on

Although the man is freezing form the cold and getting frostbite, he is still trying to fight the harsh
weather
The Abundance of stupidity and pride are personified in the story s protagonist. For example, he
goes through the extremely cold area alone, despite going for the first time. This presumption
results in the protagonist putting himself in a bad situation that was completely preventable. At
first, he thinks nothing will happen and everything will be okay. By the end of the story, he is dead
as a result of his arrogance. Jack London illustrates the element of arrogance when the main
character ignores the possibility that there may be situations he cannot overcome.
Coming of death is another theme in the story; more specifically the peace that can be found in
death. Jack London foreshadows that the man will die in the story. Foreshadowing meaning that the
author is hinting what will be coming up later on in the story, which keeps the readers attentively
reading because they are curious about what will

Santa Gertrudis Cattle Research Paper
What does one think of when they see cattle at the local county fair? Do they classify them as a
red cow or a black cow, or do they know that each cow is possibly a different breed? In today s
era, most individuals do not understand all the subtitles beneath the title of simply cattle. There are
a variety of breeds, and each breed offers different benefits and usages. What lies beneath the title
of just cattle is more diverse than black and white. To begin with, Santa Gertrudis cattle are a
tropical beefbreed of cattle developed in southern Texas on King Ranch. This breed was officially
recognized by the United States Department of Agriculturein 1940, becoming the first beef breed
formed in the United States. The breed originated first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The breed was introduced to the southern United States from Mexico around the late 1950s.
France s desires raised the demand for Charolais cattle. French breeders stressed the need for
rapid growth in addition to cattle that would ultimately reach a large size. No other breed has
impacted the North American beef industry so significantly as the Charolais breed has. The
Charolais breed came into widespread use in the United States cattle industry at a time when
producers were seeking larger framed, heavier cattle than the traditional British breeds. Their
ability to walk, graze aggressively in warm weather, withstand the cold, produce adequate milk,
and raise heavy calves has developed a demand for the breed in ranches nationwide. Bulls have
developed a well earned reputation when due to their use of grading up for herd improvement.
This is especially noted when they are used in herds where size and ruggedness are lacking.
Charolais are white or creamy white in color, but the skin carries appreciable pigmentation. The hair
coat is usually short in summer but thickens and lengthens in cold

  • 2. Characteristics InStreet Scene, By Ian Frazier Narrative Assignment Narrative writers use many different techniques to describe and enhance the theme and/or main idea of their story. TO make the plot as realistic as possible, authors use imagery and other figurative language to help the reader better imagine the story. Hyperboles, metaphors, and irony can also be used to prove a point and make the story more humorous or suspenseful. 3 Stories Using these Characteristics The narrative Street Scene by the author Ian Frazier uses vivid imagery and excellent dialogue to help better immerse the reader in the story. A great example of this would be when he describes the people helping save the victim in a very detailed way, proven by the quote; A slight, brown haired woman was giving her mouth to mouth resuscitation, while a well built brown skinned man with hair close cropped like a skullcap was performing chest massage. Using imagery like this can allow the reader to feel like they are in the action, and imagine the situation in their head exactly how it is told in the story. Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell uses imagery as well, describing not only his surrounding but his thoughts in superb detail as well. He also uses suspense techniques to keep the reader interested in the story. One such example of him describing his thoughts in detail would be . I thought then and I think now that his attack of must was already passing off; in which case he would merely wander harmlessly about until the mahout came ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Music Therapy Personal Statement When I went to college, I planned to be a musician. I spent my life studying music, and I was passionate about composing music theory. I spent hours looking at the keys, and I explored different methods to make unique sounds. I was required to take electives the first semester; I chose to take psychology. My first essay demonstrated the psychological dynamics of music therapy. As I studied psychologymore in depth, the concepts paralleled those I studied in music theory. I began to examine different theoretical approaches to understand various aspects of behavior. My interest in music as a profession waned; I was obsessed with how the mind works and I decided to change my major to psychology. Throughout my undergraduate studies at Brooklyn ... • 4. Ford Pinto Fire The Ford Pinto Fires CaseA corporation s social responsibility and ethical actions have long been a discussion for consumers, suppliers and the government throughout the years. The corporations sole responsibility was to provide a maximum financial return to shareholders (Carroll, 1991). This paper discusses the ethical decision process in regards to the Ford Motor Companies Pinto Case. Discussion of the different methods of ethical decision making and how Ford executives and employees might have applied them and if they had or had not if there might have been a different outcome. Background. In 1971 Ford Motor Company introduced the American consumer to the new Ford Pinto. The car was developed to compete with the smaller foreign vehicles. CEO Henry Ford II promoted Lee Iacocca to President of the company for his innovation to enter this market. Ford rushed the Pinto into production even after it failed several crash tests (Trevino Nelson, 2014). The vehicles were found to have a faulty fuel tank that exploded with a low speed impact. Engineers of Ford tried several ways to remedy this but due to the short productions schedule it was determined it would be too costly and delaying production was not an option. ... It is unclear as to exactly how many were actually killed by the Ford Pinto explosive fuel tank but in 1980 the State of Indiana versus Ford Motor Company case made history (Becker, Jipson, Bruce, 2012). The methods Ford used in deciding to put the Pinto into circulation were unorthodox to anything from historical reference. The most controversial was the cost benefit analysis done by Ford where the company basically put a price tag on a life in comparison to fixing the fuel tank issue in the Pinto (Trevino Nelson, ... However, like everything else in life; there are limits and boundaries that should not be crossed. Over the years, gym goers and professional athletes have started to cross this limit by looking for alternatives for diligence; as a result, they have turned to abusing steroids or blood doping to improve their performance. My research aims to thoroughly explain the differences between anabolic steroids and blood doping. The reason of me choosing this topic is because I myself am a gym goer, and I devote myself to maintaining my body and health, hence I would like to learn whether taking these shortcuts are worth the risks or not. Also, due to the rise of famous athletes taking performance enhancers, I would like to ascertain how these enhancers work and how many athletes have managed to deceive drug tests. A.Research Design The main aspects that I plan to focus on during the course of my research are: the definition of anabolic steroids and blood doping, the methods of using anabolic steroids and blood doping, the side effects of taking anabolic steroids and blood doping, the reasons people take these performance enhancers, notorious athletes who have abused performance enhancers; and finally in my conclusion, I shall state possible solutions and advices as well as my opinion on anabolic steroids and blood doping. Buck s Transformation In The Call Of The Wild Buck, the main character in Jack London s novel Call of the Wild undergoes drastic change from living in his cozy house in California to trudging the cold and dreary lands of the Klondike. Diagnosis Pulmonary embolisms are diagnosed through several ways; x rays of the chest are done to get a good picture of the lungs, MRIs are done to produce images that are more detailed than x rays, blood tests are sometimes conducted to check for a natural clot dissolving substance in the blood, venography s are performed to get x ray images of the veins in the lungs. CT scans are done to get cross sectional views of the lungs. Duplex Venous Ultrasound are performed by using radio waves to check the flow of blood and to see if there are any clots existing in the legs. The most effective way of diagnosing a pulmonary embolism is through a pulmonary angiography, this is when the doctor makes an incision and inserts tools into the veins of the lungs and then puts a dye though the veins to detect any blockages. 4.Treatment For the larger and more life threatening clots, most often surgeries are the only option to get them removed. For smaller blood clots, blood thinners and clot dissolvers are used to break up the clots in the lungs. 5.Prognosis The prognosis of a pulmonary embolism can range from very good to very bad. Some pulmonary embolisms are so severe that death occurs in seconds to minutes. For others, after surgery or clot busting drugs, patients are usually put on blood thinners to reduce the risk of having another pulmonary embolism that could potentially be fatal. • 11. School Environment And The Classroom Environment Do you remember ever as a kid dreading going to school? Somedays you just really didn t feel like it, but you had to anyway. Now, was it you didn t enjoy school whatsoever, or was it really the environment they put you in at school? Well, kids today are facing those exact same problems each day. It s time to get to the bottom of it. The school environment children spend most of their day is a place many kids across the nation do not enjoy. There are many flaws in today s school environment that some may not realize. However, many schools tend to blame the kids by telling them they simply do not wantto work and they are acting lazy. Even if there is a small percentage of students where that really is the case, but for the other ninety percent, that is completely false, and it is crucial we emphasize that. School environment issues include children being allowed to have their cell phones in the classroom which is decreases their work time, the excessive amount of homeworkkids are being faced with which is causing some kids to cheat and giving them anxiety and stress issues, and the debate about extending the school which would push back students schedules causing the to get less sleep, but still having to wake up just as early as before the in the morning. • 13. Rousseau s State Of Nature Rousseau defines the state of nature as The hypothetical, prehistoric place and time where human beings live uncorrupted by society (Editors). According to Rousseau, in the state of nature people have complete physical freedom and are at liberty to do whatever they want (Editors). The state of nature for Rousseau is where human beings have not discovered rationality or morality (Editors). The state of nature keeps us from turning psychopathic as opposed to society who Rousseau says is to blame for our behavior and short comings. Rousseau interpretation of the state of nature was a man will act like a savage if they need food, sexual satisfaction, and sleep (Giampietri). In general, Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau all agree the only thing that is important to a man other than self preservation is his immediate needs, so luxuries are not seen as vital in his opinion. Rousseau compares a savage looks to that of a wild animal, the difference being a man s free will and the ability of self improvement (Giampietri). Still self improvement can either bring progress or misfortune to mankind. In Rousseau s opinion the goodness in the state of nature is polluted thanks to civilization and progress leaving us no chance to go back to that state. However, Rousseau s aspect on mortality in the state of nature is there is no room for law, right and mortality (Giampietri). In other words, we do not harm others because we have a natural distaste to seeing people in pain or suffering. Such as, Hobbes and Locke assumption that we will fall in a state of war which Rousseau feels they over estimates. Rousseau imagines in state of war a man will feel horrible for the harm caused to other fellows. To Rousseau in a state of nature man are equal. Rousseau attitude towards private property is different than Locke s view. Rousseau feels the only outcome that will occur of owning private property is inequality, mutual dependence, and jealousy. Evangelical Christianity Definition During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the Tswana, Maale, and NigГ©riens counterbalanced evangelical Christian mission colonization by incorporating local customs and practices into Christianity. We will define and dissect the terms civilization and modernity to describe how medicine and religion reinforced and changed African and white Christian cultures. I define civilizationas a white, Christian ideology that formulated how missions historically oppressed black Africans; evangelical missions rationalized white supremacy by claiming that inept and inferior black Africans needed cleanliness and morality training. In the nineteenth century, legislation passed that empowered doctors with advanced education to cleanse disadvantaged patients with biomedicine. Comaroff argues that biomedicine became...a discipline, taking on the ethos of professionalism after the Medical Act of 1858, which limited medical practice to well educated doctors (1997: 328, 326). After the Medical Act of 1858, only wealthy doctors who learned advanced anatomical and physiological operations in prestigious universities could practice medicine. With legal leverage, these doctors developed biomedicine as a science in which medical tools, chemical liquids, and plant substances cured ailments and cleaned urban decay. As British doctors gained socioeconomic status, media outlets claimed that doctors engaged in heroic biomedical cures to save the urban poor from their foul behaviors and miasmic living environments (Comaroff 1997: 326). Because city slum dwellers often had many children, lived in close quarters, and could not afford to bathe, doctors sought to improve their health by teaching them proper hygiene. It helps in various ways from showing increases of certain crimes in different regions to how often different crimes are committed. There are three major crime data sources in the united states, official statistics, victimization survey data, and self reported data. Starting with official statistics, the main source is the UCR which stands for uniform crime reports. The UCR Program collects statistics on violent crime (murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) and property crime (burglary, larceny theft, and motor vehicle theft). All the data collected is compiled by the FBI. The FBI gets all of the data from police and sheriff departments. Only a majority of departments participate because participation is voluntary which leaves the data as a whole to some extent inaccurate. Analysis Of Three Fundamental Assumptions Are Made Throughout this policy paper, three fundamental assumptions are made: 1.The Murdell Flemming Model is a fundamentally sound method of analysis. 2.A global trend toward liberalization of free trade is both strictly current and strictly relevant to Chinese economic growth. 3.The power dynamic between host country, home country, and Multinational Corporationis a driving factor in cross regional mergers and acquisitions and thereby domestic economic growth as measured by nominal gross domestic product. The Murdell Flemming Trilemma or Unholy Trinity states that a government can only generate policy that satisfies two of three general desires; these desires are exchange rate stability, capital mobility, and domestic monetary autonomy (Cohen, 2010). Concerning the China, the general international monetary choices should be capital mobility and domestic monetary autonomy. In an era where multinational corporations are increasingly looking to cross regional mergers and acquisitions to create value, it is more important than ever for China to retain capital mobility and domestic monetary autonomy (Cross Regional, 2015). Through an examination of multinational corporations and domestic monetary policy choices, the need for capital mobility and domestic monetary autonomy become clear. This need is proven through the effects these policy choices have on domestic monetary value and the subsequent consequences these effects have on cross regional mergers and acquisitions. The ... Maybe it s the evil Darth Vader, killing his own people in his conquest, or Sauron, who is rarely seen but sends his armies off to stop Frodo. All villains have something in common, they are a character in a story or play who opposes the hero (Merriam Webster). This is especially true in video games, where most of the story is driven by the villain. The Legend of Zelda, a popular game franchise, has had many villains in its time. Lord Vaati is the most well written and well developed villain in the Zelda series. He appears in the series multiple times and never fails to get the player interested. Lord Vaati is one of two recurring villains in the Legend of Zeldaseries. He is first seen in Four Swords, but we are given more backstory about him in Minish Cap. In Minish Cap, Vaati is trying to become the most powerful magician, and tries to take over Hyrule in his quest for more power. He searches for an ancient artifact known as the Light Force, which would give him ultimate power. In the end he is defeated by the hero, Link, and is sealed away in a sword to return in later games, (Miyamoto). In this essay I will discuss the links between the consumption of food and the underlying desires behind consuming. In this essay I will argue that food is used as a transformative device to enable Alice to voluntarily explore and involuntarily supress her inner desires. Alice s Adventures in Wonderland delves into the idea of eating or drinking for pleasure. In contrast, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are close links between Alice s change in size and the gain of power. According to Nicholson, consuming food is the material means of growth, where growth may be defined as gaining power (39). This translates to the idea that Alice has power over her surroundings, she desires to be omnipotent and break free of her inhibitions. Nicholson also explains that What is killed does not die voluntarily. Therefore the creatures man eats must be weaker than he is (39). Alice supports this idea when she consumes the cake labelled EAT ME (Carroll 12). Not only does Alice consume the cake, but she does so to gain the power to transform so that she may carry on with her pursuit of the garden. Alice s consumption of food in Wonderland not only represents her need for power but also her need to fulfill internal desires. According to Garland, Alice s attitude toward food...contrib[utes] to an understanding of the representations of sexuality and subjectivity in Wonderland (25). • 33. Prisons Ineffective In Prisons Canadian prisons are ineffective at rehabilitating inmates due to overcrowded conditions and failure of proper preparation of reintegration into society. Overcrowding is when more people are placed into a confined space, than it can actually hold. Factors that lead to the cause of failure in the correctional system consist of gender biases, cultural biases, and the lack of rehabilitative resources/social support. Mandatory minimum sentencing and substance abuse also play a role in increased incarceration rates. When a crime is committed, the offender is taken to court where a judge will determine if the offender is innocent or guilty. If the offender is found guilty, the penalties may include the following; community service, a fine, or incarceration for a certain amount of time depending on the severity of the crime committed. The purpose of the Canadian prison system is to serve justice to both society, and the law breaker. Justice is served to society by punishing criminals with isolation from society at large. The criminal is served justice through receiving rehabilitation in order to successfully reintegrate into society, once released from incarceration. The focus of Canadian prisons should first be in rehabilitating its inmates, and punishment should be its secondary focus. However, punishment seems to be the prime focus and prison sentences have become more of a standard solution, rather than an option. Simply because it is easier and more effective. ...
