Transforming Nursing and Healthcare through Information Technology
NURS 6051N 20
July 10, 2015
Adopting New Technologies into Nursing The healthcare system is a continuously evolving
spectrum. Nurses must take great strides in learning and adapting to new technologies to meet the
standards of the health care system. One significant change that has occurred throughout the last
few years is the transition from paper charting to utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems.
This technological change is a major development that has the potential to significantly impact the

15). Thus, if possible, emphasizing the simple aspects of the chosen EHR while avoiding excessive
complexity during design will be an important aspect to avoid obstacles in the adoption of the new
practice. As the nurse facilitator, realization that the older generation may be confronted with
difficulty regarding technological innovation is crucial. Providing constructive, and tolerant
instruction will help with successful adaption of the new EHR for these individuals. Adequate
training and instruction, while ensuring user friendly technology was the base of the design for
the new EHR will help ensure simplicity and encourage positive outlook from staff and increase
rates of adaptation. Thus, emphasizing simplicity of use while avoiding complexity will give
health care workers a positive stance on their capabilities regarding the utilization of a new EHR.
Trialability
The fourth aspect of successful implementation is trialability. As described by Rogers (2003),
Trialability is the degree to which an innovation may be experimented with on a limited basis . An
easy way to interpret this aspect is that the more practice, the easier a concept becomes or practice
makes perfect . As the nurse facilitator, one must recognize and understand that adequate training
and available resources are the basis for trialability and success. Thus, the more the nurses who
utilize the new EHR, the faster a successful adaptation occurs. It is during this part of the

Luminol Forensics Lab Report
Reflecting on the Impacts of Science, Specifically Forensics: Luminol Luminol (C8H7N3O2) is a
very effective and convenient chemical used in crime scene investigations. The presence of blood
can be found with luminol sprayed throughout a crime scene. The chemical reaction between
luminol and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) the oxidizing agent, catalyzed by the iron in blood, reveals
this presence. When investigating a crime scene, investigators use luminol joined by other
chemicals; such as hydrogen peroxide, to search for blood evident. In order for the luminol to react
with the hydrogen peroxide in a glowing manner, a catalyst is needed. In this case, the substance
that increases the rate of the chemical reaction; the catalyst, is the iron in blood. The iron atoms are
found in the haemoglobin within blood. The reaction produces a cyclic peroxide and releases
energy, essentially causing the blue, chemiluminescent lightvisible when observing under a
blacklight. This reaction was developed so that crime investigators and scientists present at a crime
scene can view blood that may not be visible to the naked eye. The forensic industry is greatly
impacted by this reaction because it has provided essential evidence and information needed to...

A chemical reaction involving luminol can result in chemiluminescence when coming in contact
with other substances other than blood. It can react with copper, horseradish sauce, fecal matter,
and certain types of bleaches. This can be difficult for forensic scientists because bleach solution is
often used to thoroughly clean crime scenes by criminals prior to investigation. This is a problem
because when luminol and an oxidant is sprayed throughout the crime scene, a chemiluminescence
glows throughout the whole area, disguising any areas that may have had blood prior to the
thorough clean

Comparing Way To Rainy Mountain And Being Country
Essay 2Scott Momaday s The Way to Rainy Mountain and Bobbie Ann Mason s Being
Country are two the texts to be compared. Though they share similarities, they too are quite
different. They both share similar topics, in that they are two stories of cultures, but written from
different perspectives of their cultures. Momaday is from the Kiowas tribe of the plains of
Oklahoma, and Mason from a farm in Mayfield, Kentucky. Both exhibit some comparisons, but
mostly contrasts throughout their writing. Momaday s American Indian heritage dates back to the
1880 s when his grandmother was born, where Mason s dairy farm heritage takes place starting
when she was born in 1940. I found both to be stories of each of the author s lives ... Show more

Momaday shows contentment in his work.
Mason, on the other hand, shows more resentment in hers. Bobby Ann Mason begins by describing
the simplicity of how her family lives. She begins this writing from when she was eleven years
old. Her mom and Granny were very dedicated farm women. They took care of all of the food,
clothing and just about anything else needed for them to run a household. As Mason shows, they
prove to be very resourceful and are capable of making the most out of what they have available.
On a typical day of food preparation by Mason s mom and Granny, Mason screams
Can t y all talk about anything but food? There was a shocked silence. Well, what else is there ?
Granny asked. Granny didn t question a women s duties, but I did. I wanted to be somebody,
maybe an airline stewardess. Also, I had been listening to the radio. I had notions
(106). She was beginning to develop her independence. Mason thought she would strive to better
herself to not have to suffer her mother s fate. She almost seems to be developing anxiety and
depression over food, though her family always seems to get by with plenty. I think this
dependence on nature was at the core of my rebellion. I hated the constant sense of helplessness
before vast forces, the continuous threat of failure...I especially hated women s part in the
dependence (106). She talks of

Dog Collar
Keeping your dog safe is a concern for every pet owner. There are many ways to protect your pet
including fencing in your yard, gating off areas where they could get hurt, and giving them the
proper care and nutrition. One of the simplest ways to keep them safe is a collar and pet tags.
Collars help with petidentification, exercise, and can be used for training purposes. Many types of
collars are available and it may be hard to choose the right one for your dog.
The three main purposes of a collar are for control, identification, and fashion. Most have a place
for the identification and vaccination tags to be attached as well as a place for a leash. A basic
nylon collar can be used for a house dog that just needs identification tags to help find their home
if they get loose. Larger breeds may need a stronger collar. Dogs that spend a lot of their time
outdoors may need collars ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are available in many sizes and colors. Clasps vary as well. Included in these are quick release
collars that clasp with a plastic clip and breakaway collars that have a safety clip which allows
them to get free if they get caught on something. Halters can be a good alternative to a collar if
the dog will be on a leash and gets over excited. A halter goes around the dog s mouth but they are
still able to use their mouth. Harnesses wrap around the body and are very good for smaller dogs.
When the dog lunges, they will not choke themselves or get free.
Choke collars are used for dog training. They can be made of medal, leather, or nylon. They
have rings at either end that allow it to cinch up when the leash is pulled and then released after
the dog has been corrected. Pinch collars have prongs on the inside of the collar and pressure is
placed on the dog s neck when pulled. They are used in training when other types of training
collars are not responded to and can often be used to train a dog not to pull on their

Arizona Statehood and Constitution
Part I: Arizona Statehood It is quite a remarkable journey that Arizona embarked upon to make it
the forty eight state of the United States of America. On February 14, 2012 it became an integral
part of this new found world of democracy and freedom. Along with its vast cultures and heated
temperatures, the architectural design of the city is a pure reflection of the inhabitants who were
established here before to make it their own homeland. This essay will examine the road to
statehood and analyze the events to make Arizona become a state.

was signed. For 15 million, Mexico ceded more than one third of its territory and the U.S.
acquired all of Arizona north of the Gila River (McClory, 2001). Unfortunately, southern Arizona
still was in control by Mexico, which included Tucson. Arizona and New Mexico became one
territory called the Territory of New Mexico. Soon after, the United States paid another 10 million
for 30,000 square miles of the Mexican territory that included Tucson. Congress thought the
purchase was meaningless because it was just desert land. The Gadsden Purchase gave the final
boundary that Arizona has today. In 1860, along with the constitution, a governor and other elected
officials were established. That was unfortunately short lived because of the Civil War. In 1862,
Union troops entered the state and placed it under martial rule, this action further delayed Arizona s
official admission as a state (McClory, 2011).
The Territorial Period Congress finally pushed for Arizona to have separate territorial status
because of the discovery of precious metals. On February, 24, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln
signed the Organic Act, which officially created Arizona s territory (McClory, 2001). The first
official governor, John Goodwin, took the oath of office on December 29, 1863. Prescott became

Blanche Dubois Patriarchy
Tennessee William s A Streetcar Named Desire distorts truth within Blanche s mind ( I don t tell
the truth. I tell what ought to be the truth ) to the extent that veracity itself is disintegrated
unconsciously into her inner deceptive conflict of illusion and reality. Williams externalises this
conflict in the typification of Blanche and Stanley as Nietzsche s Apollonian Dionysian dialectic
in the inevitable destruction of Blanche in her lies, coerced by women s suffering due to the
onslaught of patriarchy. Back to secrets and lies The deaths that Blanche suffers engender her
characterisation as the Apollonian in her world of delusion and lies. Allan s suicide becomes the
first of Blanche s traumatic encounters with death ( All of those deaths! The long parade to the
graveyard ) embodying in her personified monologue the imminence of death ( Why, the Grim
Reaper had put up his tent on our doorstep! ). Further, this necrophobia and her guilt for Allan s
suicide, elicited by the leitmotif Varsouviana provokes her deterioration into her fantasy as a
substratum of her anguish, becoming the epitome of the Apollonian. Moreover, Allan s... Show

Stanley thrusts Blanche into insanity as means to assert dominance and affirm his reality by
nullifying Blanche s judgement. The rape is such a powerful catalyst for Blanche s descent into
madness, as she discerns the Apollonian consciousness of sexuality and darkness she has
constructed is eerily indistinguishable from Stanley s Dionysian ecstatic realm. Ergo, she has no
true escape in the rhetoric question how could I stay here with him, after last night, with just those
curtains between us? Thus, Williams encapsulates Blanche as the exemplar of patriarchy s
stigmatisation of female sickness, and fear of feminine sexuality that threatens the balance of the

A Brief Note On The Sun And The Circumstances Of The...
Racism the word has a harsh sound to the ear and racism s effects deliver a harsh reality to victims.
The novel Raisin in the Sun and the circumstances of the Moulin Rouge Hotel Casino in Las Vegas,
Nevada, tell how racism destroyed dreams and crushed the soul through discrimination and lost
opportunity. But there s another side to the racismstory. For some of the oppressed, discrimination
and hardship will be fought with perseverance and achievement. In both the fictional Raisin in the
Sun and the historical Moulin Rouge Casino, a black woman, against great odds, will achieve
personal and historic success. Racism in America directed toward black peopleoriginated over 300
years ago with the first importation of black slaves into the America from Africa (Frederickson).
While great progress in eliminating explicit racism has taken place, American society has far to go
in ensuring that blacks have the same protections, advantages and freedoms as whites. Racial
discrimination in this country continues to harm millions of black Americans whether it is through
an inferior education, unfair treatment in the judicial and law enforcement systems or delivery of
sub optimal health care. While the government can play a role in solving this problem with
legislation, equitable law enforcement and national education, it will also take a recognition of the
problem and then a focused, long term effort by generations of families to acknowledge and

Children s Child Entitlement, Dependency...
Many parents always want a better life for their children than what they had. They always try to
keep them as happy as can be and make sure the children have everything that they need and want.
Most parents want to keep their children happy, and associating them with toys and the things that
they want equates to happiness. Some children may deserve some of what is given to them, but
other children may be given everything that they want. Busy parents, or parents who are not home a
lot, feel that since they do not spend the time with their children that they must shower them in
gifts. While although those things may be nice, the parents are potentially hurting their children in
the long run. Spoiling children can lead to child entitlement,... Show more content on

This type of behavior leads to the idea of entitlement with children and teenagers. They already have
it in their heads that they need this or want that, but as soon as the parents give in, they know that
they can get away with it. Amy McCready, who partners with Kids R Kids for the expert parenting
advice series states that, the two biggest culprits for the entitlement epidemic are over indulging
and pampering. The child or teen gets what they want and have no gratitude or appreciation
towards their parents. At a young age, children automatically depend on their parents. When they
are babies and toddlers, they cannot do the things to maintain themselves. When a child or teen is
spoiled, they rely on their parents to help them out whenever they are in need. There are cases in
which the parent loves the idea that the child needs them, and doesn t give the child any type of
responsibility. They do everything that the child asks or wants them to do just to keep them
happy. This can lead to unmotivated children, since they know that their parents will do it
themselves. Parents give their children a little money here and there, so now they believe that
they do not need to work for it. In depend people, they cannot do anything on their own; they
always require someone else to be there. Researchers Connie Dawson and David J. Bredehoft cite
a study showing that young college students who were spoiled as children, tended to believe that

Draw from the sociotechnical debate to discuss the emergence of two technologies one developed
before 1920 and one after. What are the implications of your analysis for our understanding of
technological innovations? You are advised to choose technologies we have been discussing in the
lectures and seminars.
There is no denying that technology has been an ever apparent part of the human society. Today,
technology is used in a variety of ways and is essential for the survival of the human society. While
technology is wholly accepted as an essential part of life, there has always been a debate whether it
is technology that revolutionizes society or society that influences technology, ... Show more

It views technology as the utilization of existing scientific knowledge in society. For example, the
creation of a laptop, which stemmed from the creation of the computer or the steam boat which
came about due to the application of 2 previous inventions, the boat and the steam engine
(Petrakaki, 2014). Hence it argues that these creations cannot be considered new as it draws upon
something that already exists and not disembodied inspiration as mentioned by MacKenzie and
Wajcman (1985). In Social Determinism, technology does have a limited amount of power as it
may open up more opportunities, however the choice to exploit it remains in society s power
(White, 1978). Technology is not independent and requires an existing infrastructure to be able to
run, like a mobile phone, which requires connections with network towers before it can be used to
make phone calls.
Social Determinism also talks about how the shaping of technology can be due to economic,
political, cultural reasons and by social norms. In terms of economic reasons, the progress in
technology has often been linked with improving profit or revenue margins as well as reducing
costs (Petrakaki, 2014). For example, the assembly line, which came about in the 1800s, was made
to improve the efficiency and reduce costs for companies, as it required lesser manpower (Walker,
1952). Culture does shape technology, as the same form of technology may possess different
features in different countries. For example, in

Long Day`S Journey Into Night Character Analysis

the Tyrone family, whose once close family has deteriorated over the years for a number of
reasons: MaryВЎВЇs drug addiction, Tyrone Jamie and EdmundВЎВЇs alcoholism, TyroneВЎВЇs
stinginess, and the sons` pessimistic attitude toward future. In the play, all of the four characters
are miserable about life, and they all remember the past and try to escape from reality by drinking

most tragic character in the play. She used to be an innocent girl with beautiful dreams (to become a

In Scene One of the Act Two, Mary tends to blame the problems of the family on fate. She first
criticizes Jamie for his tendency to look for weaknesses in others, but then she changes directions
and attributes the flaw to the way Jamie was raised, which is not his fault.(P63) MaryВЎВЇs
fatalistic point of view is another flaw in her character, because she always uses this as an
excuse and finds a way out. Likewise, she blames most of her problems on her failed dreams and
disappointment, which limits her choice of actions. This fatalistic view is a barrier to solving her
own problems and the conflicts of the family. As time passes, in the Act Three, Mary continues to
take morphine, which makes her even more miserable and unconscious. The more Mary uses
morphine, the more she tends to travel back into past memories. At the beginning of Act Three,
Mary has a conversation with Cathleen and she talks about her youth, her dreams and the love
story between her and Tyrone.(P106/107) These memories are the only things that can make Mary
happy now. At this point, we can see why Mary uses morphine so muchВЎВЄit allows her to leave
the present and live in the world of the past, when she was young and beautiful. Aside from

The Guidon Essay
The guidon, also referred to as the colours or the standard, is an important and time honored piece
of the military s history that is still observed and revered today. The guidon is thought to have
originated from ancient Egytptian times, where it was believed to have represented rulers and the
armies they commanded. The idea endured well into medieval European times as it was used to
depict each commanders specific coat of arms. This is so that each soldier could see through the
dust and smoke created from the battlefield where their particular regimentwas located, so as not to
be separated from them. We still use guidons today, though maybe not for the same purpose or in
the same situations, mainly because of how advanced warfare... Show more content on

Later, battle honors were added to the colours, which made them even more significant and were
revered even more by members of the regiment. The colours are never destroyed capriciously
anymore. When they get too old and worn out to be used or displayed as the uit standard, they
are moved to museums until they moulder into dust. However, in modern armies, if the colours
are in danger of being captured by the enemy, there are standing orders for them to be destroyed.
It is for this reason and the advent of modern weapons, and subsequent changes in tactics, colours
are no longer carried into battle. However, they are still used at formal events and ceremonies.
The word guidon derives from the Italian guidone meaning guide or marker and/or the Middle
French corruption guyd hommes, hence it is the focus for soldiers in battle. The significance of
the guidon is that it represents the unit and its commanding officer. When the commander is in,
his or her guidon is displayed for everyone to see. When he leaves for the day, the guidon is taken
down. It is an honor, although sometimes a dubious one, to be the guidon carrier for a unit,
known as a guidon bearer or guide . He or she stands in front of the unit alongside of the
commander (or the commander s representative), and is the rallying point for troops to fall into
formation when the order is given. In drill and ceremonies the guidon and commander are always in
front of the formation.

Themes In Brutal Imagination By Cornelius Eady
When writing a collection of poems, most poets chose to focus on maintaining certain themes
throughout their literature and Cornelius Eady is not an exception. Cornelius Eady s collection of
poems in Brutal Imagination focus on issues such as racism, family crisis, internal conflict, and
death. The first part of the collection circles around a servant who works for Susan Smithand is the
caretaker for her children. The story centers around the perspective of the servant who is also the
overarching narrator. The story describes old version of United States when racism was still bluntly
present and affected individuals identities and financial opportunities. Based off the information
presented in the collection, the servant can possibly be male. The general plot follows deeply into
the difficult life of the male servant through examining the issues he faces. The first poem within
the collection set ups the rest of the story with context for the readers giving them a few
expectations about what they should look forward to reading further. Eady draws the reader through
integrating an origin for the male servant and his connection to Susan Smith s family.
In the first poem one titled How I Got Born , the narrator describes himself as a person with a
partial significant life. Eady uses phrases such as piecemeal , and willed me alive to convey a
message that the narrator is different and as an insignificant life form to Susan Smith. The word

adulthood made them question religion, friendships, and fate. J. D. Salinger saw this as a
potential pitfall for teens; therefore, he adopts a unique writing style to which they can relate to.
Sol and Miriam Salinger s son, Jerome David Salinger, was born on January 1st, 1919 in New
York ( Salinger ). Supported by her Jewish husband, a successful meat and cheese importer,
Miriam was able to raise Salinger and his two older siblings in the fashionable apartment district of
upper Manhattan (French). In 1934 Salinger attended Valley Forge Military academy, where he
grasped literature and began writing short stories (French). In spite of later being drafted to be in
the military during World War II, Salinger wrote numerous works which inspired the lives of
countless Americans. Through his use of point of view, characterization, and symbolism, Salinger
aims towards conserving teenagers innocence as they move into adulthood in The Catcher in the
Rye.
Holden, the teenage protagonist of the novel, experiences an ongoing battle with the adult world and
the cruelty associated with it. Holden respects those who represent or protect innocence, and is

Federal Government During Civil War Essay
America s republican form of representative government was premised upon the idea of three co
equal branches of government: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. The three branches, in theory,
operate independent of one another and serve as check upon one another. It is this structure of this
government, the founders believed, that would retard any establishment of monarchial government
that the American Revolution was fought upon. However the civil war, and more specifically the
Reconstruction period following it tested these principles to the core. While it may be accurate to
characterize governmental struggles that defined Reconstruction as ones that were inter branch, a
more detailed and nuanced survey reveals it was borne more so out... Show more content on

Not long after the inception of the Articles of Confederation, it became clear that the several states
functioning as independent units would not be able to provide a sufficient defense for the whole
country. Following a constitutional convention, the present day Constitution was devised with a
federal structure with three co equal branches endowed with certain enumerated functions. During
the period from the Revolution to the Civil war, America s branches of government had always
been in constant conflict. However, the period of reconstruction brought this strife to the forefront.
It is inaccurate per se, to characterize this strife as one solely of branches of government
competing for supremacy; rather, it is better characterized as a struggle of competing political
goals. To understand Reconstruction, it is important to understand how differing ideologies
understood the goals of reconstructing this country following the Civil War. This period was
defined by the two party system that we know today: Democrats and Republicans. Following
Reconstruction, the outer reaches of the Republican Party were defined by complete redefinition of
the south. Specifically, many Republicans advocated for ridding the southern aristocracy of their
property as well as their life styles. During this period bills were introduced by Republican
congressman to redistribute the wealth of the southern aristocracy from wealthy slave owner
planters to newly freed slaves.

Morte D Arthur Gender Roles
The Arthurian legend is one of the most important parts of the national British history. The
Arthurian legend has developed into a symbol of British pride, and creates a formula for showing
readers about the truths of their nation and its history. These accounts are typically written about
male characters and their plots reveal the patriarchal division of the society during this time.
Through this paper, I will compare two author s writings. I will investigate the portrayal of the
female characters and the characteristics attached to their gender. The aim of this comparison is to
present how an author s time period, rank in society, location, personal beliefs, and political
opinions, affected his portrayal of gender, including men and women in his works. In the same
ways, these works themselves also allow readers to peer into the way the societies of that time
functioned... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Morte D Arthur is a simple and detailed account of the Arthurian legend events. It is a crucial
work in this subject because it served as a foundation for Medieval literature. Malory s work
directly influenced the stereotype of women as evil and frames women as responsible for most
bad things. However, Malory also influenced the romanticizing of courtly relationships and
allowed space for women to be adored and favored in the eyes of the reader. However, another
great influence that reveals a shift in the social and political view of gender is the differences in
time. Naturally, in a comparative piece of writing like T.H. White s The Once and Future King
which was written in 1958, the portrayal of women and their roles in the stories was changed
dramatically. In contrast, White put forth more effort to liven the female characters and put an
emphasis on their emotions and motivations. Yet although White portrays the female characters
with sympathy and understanding, he uses them mainly as a channel to develop the male

The Ineffectiveness of Education Reform Essay
On January 8, 2002 President Bush signed into law the Leave No Child Behind Act, which
significantly changes how public schools receive federal funding. This bipartisan supported attempt
at reform, the first of this magnitude since the Elementary Secondary Education Act of 1965, shows
a dedicated concern to improving education. However, it is not plausible a punishment/rewards
system will positively improve schoolson a large scale as a nationwide policy should.
President Bush s apparent prioritizing of schools is the positive stance for the federal government
to take on this issue, especially at a time when domestic concerns could be overshadowed by
global tensions and war activities. At first glance, one may be reassured by the ... Show more

This education policy was conceived at a time of prosperity, so whether the government continues to
increase spending remains to be seen.
The new legislation focuses on a pertinent aspect of education, raising standards for students, but
determining funding by test scores does not guarantee widespread results. This new policy relies
on the threat tactic of schools improving for fear of federal funding being reduced; if a school does
not meet the new standards, how will reducing funding improve it? The government will continue
funding school districts which are already capable of invoking sufficient test scores, while cutting
back funding to the districts which can not, offering the alternative of government funded
transportation to another school. This is the legislation s flaw: it should be teachers taking
proficiency tests periodically to display their qualifications in order to remain teaching. Most
teachers are dedicated to their own education, and so would not likely oppose such a policy. Instead
we have the federal government holding funding with the justification of accountability over school
districts, demanding improved test scores.
This criticism is rooted in both skepticism towards the policy s effectiveness, and confidence in an
alternative potential solution: the government could radically change the profession of teaching
/education by establishing a national base salary which would consequently mean an overall raise in

Dance And Dementia Essay
Moreover, dance decreases the chances of someone getting a chronic illness involving dizziness.
According to Sam wong, a reporter who writes about brain research. Around one in four people
experience this condition at some time in their lives (Wong). A pirouette is a term in dance that

Why Are We Dreaming Research Paper
Why do we dream? I see dreaming as benefiting humans by helping our conscious and
subconscious minds shake hands and come to an agreement, so to speak. Our brains operate on
conscious, subconscious and unconscious levels, and I believe there is a strong link between our
subconscious minds and our dreams. Perhaps the information we store in our subconscious minds
during waking hours manifest into these hallucinatory pictures while we sleep. The part of our
brain which operates on a conscious level is significantly diminished when we are asleep, which
gives the subconscious part of our brain more energy to process what it s learned or stored.
When the lights go out, Subconscious Brain raises the curtain and puts on a weird show while
Conscious Brain sits quietly in the audience. Subconscious Brain is like, Finally! I ve been

There is no part of the brain that is totally inactive during dream state, but of course some parts of
the brain are more active than others. One particularly active area of the brain during REM sleep
is the limbic system, which includes the hippocampus and the amygdala. This area of the brain is
involved in processing emotions and fear, among other things. The prefrontal cortex shows low
activity during REM sleep, which is responsible for logical reasoning and self control. During
dreams, the brain allows the controlling side of the brain to give way to the more primitive, less
rational way of thinking, which is better known as the Activation Synthesis Model of dreaming. The
brain synthesizes and interprets this internal activity and attempts to find meaning in these signals,
which results in dreaming. This model suggests that dreams are a subjective interpretation of
signals generated by the brain during sleep,

Aims Of Eugenics
When Americans thinks of the attempted creation of a master race , most will think of Nazi
Germany. However, the original effort to create a master race, separate from minorities, the
mentally ill, and the promiscuous, happened right here in the United States. The movement was
called Eugenics. It began in the 1880 s and did not cease to exist until the late 1970 s. Eugenicswas
a dark moment in our nation s history that many people do not even know about.
In 1883, Francis Galton coined the term Eugenics, defining it as a science, which deals with all
influences that improve the inborn qualities of a race; also with those that develop them to the

Skull Wars Summary
Archeologist Brian Fagan once wrote that If we are ignorant of the past, someone will rewrite it
for us. In the book Skull Wars by Kennewick Man, David Hurst Thomas explores the history of
Anthropology and its relationship between American Indians and European Descent. This novel
reveals the underlying truth, hardship and reality of who Christopher Columbus once called
Los Indios. In the book Skull Wars by Kennewick Man, Brian Fagan s Statement of the rewriting
of the past can relate to Skull Wars in numerous ways. I Agree with his statement and believe that
if we do not care or learn about what has really happened in the past, why would it be so hard for
mainstream American society to feed us misinterpreted stories today? Kennewick Man has also
taken a huge step forward in revealing the truth on why todays Indians resent and distrust both
anthropology and archeology. But how has the history of interaction between Native American
people and their displacers shaped the way I approach and think of Native American prehistory?
Firstly, there are numerous Examples of European interactions with American Indians. From the
beginning Indians focused on Trade as a major role in receiving and selling goods. For example,
the Indians traded much with European explorers and colonists. Many Native hunters demanded
deer hides that Indians were very skilled at making. Indians demanded thing such as iron tools,

Introduction
The 2006 Census Public Use Microdata File (PUMF) involved a total of 844,476 people.
Participants were randomly selected in a manner that represented all social characteristics that
existed among Canadians. Technically, it was estimated that the number represented only 2.7% of
the Canadian population. It is also on record that the 2006 PUMF involved a total of 123
population variables, of which 83% (102) represented individual variables, while the remaining
17% (21) of all variables used represented family, dwelling, and household variables. The purpose
of this research is to determine how the cost of shelters and age distribution affects the Aboriginal
people of Canada in relation to the 2006 Census Public Use Microdata File (PUMF) on individuals.
The research employs both age distribution and shelter cost as major variables affecting the
Aboriginal population. The research will conduct an inferential statistical analysis on three major
variables: Aboriginal population, shelter cost, and age. For the purpose of this research, both age
and shelter costs will be employed as independent variables relating to the overall Aboriginal
population, which is the dependent variable. Another question that the paper aims to research is

Management decision problem confronting Melissa Marcello and Julie Litzenberger and a

From the case study, it is evident that Marcello and Litzenberger face a critical management
decision problem. Their respective firms encounter challenges while trying to convince clients
about the role of marketing research (Malhotra, p. 781). Most clients are assertive that their firms
are productive even without marketing research. In essence, prospective clients perceive

question is up for debate, there is one thing that is certain, it depends on who is settling into the
colony. For this reason, a man from Holland in search of a career in fishing and trading and an

On average, 90% of school aged individuals and 70% of head of households with a median age of
33, play video games. General wisdom says that playing video games leads to poor eyesight and
greater attention deficits with higher rates of distractibility. Bavelier (2012) states that research
does not support general wisdom and even refutes it strongly under certain conditions. Bavelier s
research has shown that people who play action games such as Call of Duty, actually have better
eyesight in at least 2 conditions and are also able to switch attention much more swiftly and with
fewer deficits than

Antoine Watteau s La Perspective
Antoine Watteau s La Perspective (View through the Trees in the Park of Pierre Crozat) uses many
elements of the Rococo style of painting to instill a sense of intimacy. In this painting, members of
the elite society gather unceremoniously in a wooded clearing. The people make casual exchanges
as they mingle in the park. Trees and foliage dominate a majority of the painting. A small white
building can be seen in the background through a clearing in the trees. Watteau uses color,
composition, setting, and pose in the painting to create intimacy.
It is evident through the peoples clothing that these are in fact members of the elite. Both men and
women are clad in expensive, adorned clothing. They sit on the ground in their ornate clothes.
While the clothing appears formal, the event does not.
There is an overt sense of leisure and intimacy established through the social exchanges in this
painting. A man in the foreground is playing a guitar to a lady, which adds a cheery, relaxed
mood. On the right side of the painting, children play on the ground, which shows how this is a
joyful event. While there are many social interactions being made, the people in this painting are
very generalized. Watteau purposely does not paint many of the people s faces to put emphasis on
the landscape and setting.
The setting of La Perspective is most utilized to create intimacy. Set in a park in the middle of the
woods, Watteau greatly emphasizes the landscape. Trees and foliage fill most of the

Disease Research Report
December 9, 2010
CHOLERA
Disease Defined Cholera is an infection of the small intestine that causes a large amount of watery
diarrhea. Cholera is a bacterial disease (caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae) usually spread
through contaminated water. The bacteria, which are found in fecal contaminated food and water
and in raw or undercooked seafood, produce a toxin that affects the intestines causing diarrhea,
vomiting, and severe fluid and electrolyte loss. This overwhelming dehydration is the outstanding
characteristic of the disease and is the main cause of death. Cholera has a short incubation period
(two or three days) and runs a quick course. In untreated cases the death rate is ... Show more

In this setting, the disease occurs primarily in young children, who are exposed to the organism
for the first time, and in the elderly, who have lower gastric acid production and waning
immunity. The poor are at greatest risk because they often lack safe water supplies, are unable to
maintain proper hygiene within the home, and may depend on street vendors or other unregulated
sources for food and drink. Recent epidemiologic research suggests that an individual s
susceptibility to cholera (and other diarrheal infections) is affected by their blood type: those with
type O blood are the most susceptible, while those with type AB are the most resistant. Between
these two extremes are the A and B blood types, with type A being more resistant than type B.
Signs and Symptoms * Dry mucus membranes or mouth * Dry skin * Excessive thirst * Glassy
or sunken eyes * Lack of tears * Lethargy * Low urine output * Nausea * Rapid dehydration *
Abdominal cramps * Watery diarrhea * Rapid pulse * Vomiting
The usual incubation period is 2 to 5 days, although it can be as short as several hours. Severe
cholera is characterized by a sudden onset of profuse, watery diarrhea accompanied by nausea and
vomiting. If left untreated, this can rapidly lead to serious dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and
circulatory collapse. Over 50% of the most severe cases die within a few hoursНѕ with prompt,
effective treatment,

The Worst Day Of The World Trade Center
The Worst Day
Fourteen years ago on September 11, at 8:46 a.m. on a beautiful tuesday morning, a plane struck the
north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The unexpected crash killed hundreds of
people inside instantly, leaving millions in shock. At 9:04 a.m. a second plane sliced into the south
tower causing a massive explosion near the 60th floor. At 9:45 a.m. another plane struck the
Pentagon military headquarters in Washington D.C., causing a portion of the building to collapse.
Fifteen minutes after the plane struck the Pentagon, the south tower of the World Trade Center
collapsed; at 10:30 a.m., the second tower collapsed killing close to 3,000 people. Lt. Col.
Shelton F. Leskford, a U.S. Marine stated, Sept. 11, 2001 seems destined to be the watershed
event of our lives and the greatest test for our democracy in our lifetimes (Ross). This attack by the
Osama bin Laden led al Qaeda terrorist group was one of the most horrific events in history and
continues to impact the world today. September 11, 2001 marks the most significant event in the
21st century, because of this event, the United States has incurred substantial debt and economic
downturn, the immigration policy has significantly changed , and there is an increase in airport
security that has spread throughout the world.

The Importance of Good Character Essay
Why is character important? Why is it important to be a person of good morals, ethics, and
character? Can that make you more productive in life, family, school, business, work, etc. ? Well,
good moral, ethics, and character has NEVER hurt anyone. President Abraham Lincoln once said,
Reputation is the shadow. Character is the tree. To many, this quote means that Character is like a
tree which bears the shadow of their reputation whether it be good or bad. I have no regrets in my
life. I think that everything happens to you for a reason. The hard times that you go through build
character, making you a much stronger person. Rita Moreno As seen in these quotes, character is
important, and it determines your reputation in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Good character/characteristics also show leadership and value. Not only to the people around
you, but to the marketplace (where you work). Let s put this into perspective. IF..... you were the
employer or manager of a company: the person in charge of hiring and firing, which person
would you hire? Person 1 or Person 2 ? Person 1: Well, I went to this school, and I have this
degree, and I know that when you hire me I ll make the MOST for this company. You have never
seen anyone like me. You should be glad that I m even here in your office today. So... are you
gonna take me, or leave me? Person 2: Well Mr./Mrs. _________, I m so honored to be here
today. I m grateful that you took the time to interview me. I might not have all the credentials for
this position with your company, but I am willing to learn whatever you teach me. If you teach
me, I ll do my very best at my job, and will work at doing it to the best of my ability. Now that
your thinking about these two different people (that your considering to hire) which one would
you choose? Person 1 or Person 2 ? Well, the majority of us would choose Person 2. Why??
Because Person 2 shows that they are humble, teachable, and grateful. We wouldn t hire Person 1
because they appeared as arrogant, stuck up , and maybe even pushy. My point is simply this. Not
just your mannerism, but your character can be seen through how you speak, carry yourself,

skateboarding as a hobby. My best friend lives two houses down he also got into skateboarding.
That would be my main focus for many years to come. It started out just skateboarding around
the neighborhood. Then they built the skate park Inner city. My mom would take me and my
friend a few times but the skate park clothes very soon. Then there was a empty pool company
that went out of business and someone turn that into a skate park. May brought and professional
skaters like Tony Hawk and Steve Cavaleiro. As I got older me and my best friend Casey started
building our own ramps. We do not lower doing but we were fast learners. A small ramp in the

Explain The Five Steps To Describe Baye Theorem And...
Lauren Berman Chapter 8 Biostatistics Data 1.) Describe Bayes theorem and alternative to
Bayes theorem. Bayes theorem is used to answer two different questions, If the test results are
positive, what is the probability that the patient has the disease? and If the test results are
negative, what is the probability that the patient does not have the disease (93). In the formula
for Bayes theorem, the numerator is the true positive results and the denominator tells about
true positive results and false positive results. An alternative to Bayes theorem is used in
genetics (94). 2.) Explain the five steps to setting up a decision tree. There are five steps
involved in creating a decision tree. The first step is to identify and set limits to the problem, for
example whether or not the gallbladder of a person without symptoms should be removed. The
second step is to diagram the options. This can be done by starting with the patient s current
clinical status, then laying out the different options and the outcomes that could come from each
option. The third step is to obtain information on each option. In this step, the possibility of each
outcome occurring should be assessed and then the outcomes should be separated into desirable
and undesirable outcomes. The fourth step is to compare utility values and the fifth step is to
perform sensitivity analysis (97 98). 3.) Define the two different types of meta analysis. A
qualitative meta analysis is a systemic review of the literature on a particular topic (99). Different
articles on the same topic are reviewed and the results, strengths, and weaknesses of each article
are assessed. A quantitative meta analysis can be presented in two ways, either the data are
analyzed as reported in the literature, or the raw data from multiple studies are obtained and
aggregated (100). 4.) Explain the difference between independence rule, product rule, and addition
rule. The independence rule says that one probability is not influenced by the outcome of another
probability (101). In this situation, if the two probabilities are independent of each other, then the
trial can be repeated twice in a row and multiple times. The product rule is used to determine the

Political Polarization And Culture War Essay
Political scientists Wilson and Fiorina both tackle the concepts of party polarization and culture war
through the lens of the 2004 U.S presidential election. In 2016, their musings are, for the most part,
still highly applicable. Neither denies the existence of either a culture war or political polarization.
Rather, their theses differ in the extent to which they apply these terms to the general electorate
rather than to the political elites. Wilson argues that both elites and voters are polarized, a
phenomenon driven by the media, homogenization of political parties, and interest groups.1
However, Fiorina maintains that the polarization in the voting patterns of the electorate is merely a
reflection of elitepartisan stances rather than the polarization of the voters themselves.2 In
examining their arguments, it is evident that Fiorina had the more tenable thesis in regard to the
polarization of the electorate in 2004. Yet this does not preclude the existence of a culture war that
has led polarization in 2016. Today, Wilson s theories are more applicable to the political and
cultural context. Looking towards the 2018 midterm elections, the Democratic party in particular
should focus on cultivating moderate stances that can appeal to both Democrats and Republicans
with the aim of gaining seats in the Senate and House of Representatives. Writing in the political
landscape prior to the 2004 presidential election, Fiorina frequently invokes the 2000 presidential
election as

Brave New World Analysis
In Aldous Huxley s Brave New World, Bernard Marx discovers the vivid emotion of nature through
his visit to the Savage Reservation, America s last remnant of unadulterated wilderness and
humanity in a bleak, dystopian world. Writing critically on society, Huxley comments on the
degradation of morals, and the rise of a superfluous and perpetually distracted, albeit
technologically advanced, world, amid the dying influence of nature. Similarly, in his 2008 book,
Last Child in the Woods, Richard Louvexpresses concern over the widening divide between people
and nature, in particular children and nature. Citizens in Huxley s novel are infatuated with
dazzlingly visual entertainment machines, which provide transitory pleasure; likewise, Americans
today have forgone nature for equally trivial technological pursuits. Louv s sharp critique on the
bastardization of nature for short sighted whims, and his concern about the effects of isolating
children from nature, are achieved and expressed through exploring science s relationship to nature,
several subsequent illustrative examples, and ironic social commentary through these techniques,
Louv calls for action to preserve posterity s interest in and exposure to nature s romantic beauty.
Louv s reportage on the State University of New York s scientific achievement and inclusion of
commentary by Richtel jointly reveal society s enthusiasm about synthetic nature, and thus by
extension the perceived unimportance of true nature.

Twelfth Night and Pygmalion
The play Twelfth Night is set in a Elizabethan country household in a place called Illyria. Illyria
is a fictional place. Although the setting felt familiar to the audience, the name Illyria gave it a
feeling of escape from reality, something that was important because everyday life could be tough
in those days. The people needed an escape from reality sometimes. In this play we meet the upper
class, as well as the lower class. It is not certain whether it really is twelfth night, but there are
several things in this play that suggest that it might well be the twelfth night. The twelfth night is
on the 6th of January, a night where the servants and other low class figures get to change place
with their superiors. The hierarchy is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the audience liked it that way, very straight to the point. The audience of a typical
Shakespeare play has a wide social range. All kinds of people, from ambassadors to apprentices
came to watch them. The audience loved the special use of, and play with language, and the
rapid pace on stage. The culture of an audience at that time was very oral, the spectators always
had a witty comment up their sleeve and did not hesitate to shout a response to the actors on
stage. This made the actors both actors and people, a certain duality was played at. All of the
actors of the Elizabethan time were men. It was against the law to allow women on stage, at least
in the big public plays. Women were by far the weaker sex, despite of having a queen running the
country.
The props used in this play were few but adequate. Both the props and the costumes were well
made and played an important role in making the play successful. Some critics have said that this
play is an attack on Puritanism, where Malvolio represents the puritan who is quite disliked by
everybody around him. The name malvolio bears a strong resemblance to the Latin words mal
voglio , which means ill will. Maybe it is because the character Malvolio is so self absorbed and
gullible, that Shakespeare gave him this particular name? Maybe the critics were partly right?

The Democracy Of A Democratic Government
A democratic government is one in which the supreme power is vested in the people and
exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation (Merriam Webster). In
theory, a true democracy is one that is governed by the people in the form of the rule of the
majority . This is a process that seems to have been naturally embedded in the human mind. In
many circumstance, whether it is world leaders deciding on new international policy, or kids
choosing what to watch for movie night , the rule of the majority seems to often prevail. Even so,
in certain recognized democratic nations such as Canada, the rule of the majority is not triumphant.
It is inevitable that any political system would have its shortcomings, but there are some flaws that
are difficult to overlook especially those that seem to undermine the democratic credibility of a
nation. Due to a variety of factors, such as politically inactive citizens and a not so representative
electoral system, it is evident that the Canadian democracyis lacking democracy.
By international standards, the Canadian democratic system is considered healthy; Canada
regularly receives the maximum score on global assessments of civil liberties, political rights and
overall quality of democracy. (Gidengil 2014, pg.3). For some, an evaluation like this is the only
thing needed to be convinced that the democracy in this country is sound. Unfortunately, such
assessments merely analyze the system from a distance,

Summary
Anna Myers s historical fiction novel Assassin gives a detailed and thought provoking account of
President Lincoln s assassination. Alternating narration depicts events through the eyes of both
John Wilkes Booth and young girl Arabella Getchel. Bella is a seamstress in the White House
during Lincoln s presidency who pursues her dream of performing in the theater by working late
hours at Ford s Theater in exchange for show tickets. Here Bella meets Wilkes, a famous and
handsome actor. Entirely loyal to the South and Confederacy, Wilkes s charming smile and smooth
voice are famously captivating. He is, however, inclined to show aggression toward those who

Many times prophecies were made and fulfilled, leading the readers to believe that supernatural
forces God or otherwise were present in the unfolding of the story. When Booth was born, his
mother believed the flames in the fire spelled COUNTRY, and so she believed that he would
have a great effect on America. Also, as a teenager, Booth had a fortune teller predict his future.
When she looked at the may crossed lines on his palms she became worried and predicted he
would die young but famous. Both of these prophecies were fulfilled in Booth s life. At the
White House, just days before his assassination, Lincoln had a dream. In the dream, he had died
been shot and killed and was lying in a large curtained coffin in the Green Room. This too came
true. In response to these occurrences, I cannot really judge whether they are true or false. I
generally consider supernatural events to be unlikely, though I would not deem them impossible.
Considering the specific events in the story however, I believe the word in the flames and the
supposed fortune actually specifically influenced Booth s life, instead of being signs of divine
future seeing. Also, I believe that Lincoln s dream, aside from being somewhat concerning, was
just a coincidence and was probably caused by the rational long term fear the entire Lincoln family
had of being

Seminole Clothing In South Florida
The intent of this paper is to illustrate the significance of Seminole clothing and social practices in
South Florida by concentrating on the different patterns for both men and women and celebrations
they used. Using an ethnographic approach and perspective based on the facts displayed at the
History of Miami Museum I can further go into detail about the meaning of the clothingand social
practices.
The Seminoles prospered in Florida between the years of 1816 1818 and created a less formal
society than the creeks. Both the Seminoles and the Creeks had very similar clothing, social and
political practices. William Bartram, visited the Seminoles, stated they enjoy a super abundance of

fell to the knees, sleeves were buttoned at the wrist and several handkerchiefs were tied around
the neck. A pouch that hung from the belted waist, leggings and moccasins were also part of the
men s clothing but were normally worn when visiting the white settlements. The women s
clothing consisted of long sleeved pull over blouses and full skirts gathered at the waist. Before
the 20 s patchwork appeared in the style of checkerboard or sawtooth designs. By the early 1920
s Seminole clothing was made up of horizontal stripes and patchwork designs. By the 50 s the
diagonal designs were illustrated by small bars of color crammed with larger bars. James
Henshall described the Seminole turban as some two feet in diameter and six inches thick or
high, with a hole in the venter to fit the head. It formed of bright colored shawls, the outside layer
being sometimes a bright red cotton or bandana handkerchief; its shape is exactly that of a flat
cheese or grindstone. Just as clothing plays a certain role in society so does the unique social

  • 2. Adopting New Technologies in Nursing Adopting New Technologies into Nursing Lisa M. Ehret Walden University Transforming Nursing and Healthcare through Information Technology NURS 6051N 20 July 10, 2015 Adopting New Technologies into Nursing The healthcare system is a continuously evolving spectrum. Nurses must take great strides in learning and adapting to new technologies to meet the standards of the health care system. One significant change that has occurred throughout the last few years is the transition from paper charting to utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems. This technological change is a major development that has the potential to significantly impact the nursing role and overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 15). Thus, if possible, emphasizing the simple aspects of the chosen EHR while avoiding excessive complexity during design will be an important aspect to avoid obstacles in the adoption of the new practice. As the nurse facilitator, realization that the older generation may be confronted with difficulty regarding technological innovation is crucial. Providing constructive, and tolerant instruction will help with successful adaption of the new EHR for these individuals. Adequate training and instruction, while ensuring user friendly technology was the base of the design for the new EHR will help ensure simplicity and encourage positive outlook from staff and increase rates of adaptation. Thus, emphasizing simplicity of use while avoiding complexity will give health care workers a positive stance on their capabilities regarding the utilization of a new EHR. Trialability The fourth aspect of successful implementation is trialability. As described by Rogers (2003), Trialability is the degree to which an innovation may be experimented with on a limited basis . An easy way to interpret this aspect is that the more practice, the easier a concept becomes or practice makes perfect . As the nurse facilitator, one must recognize and understand that adequate training and available resources are the basis for trialability and success. Thus, the more the nurses who utilize the new EHR, the faster a successful adaptation occurs. It is during this part of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Luminol Forensics Lab Report Reflecting on the Impacts of Science, Specifically Forensics: Luminol Luminol (C8H7N3O2) is a very effective and convenient chemical used in crime scene investigations. The presence of blood can be found with luminol sprayed throughout a crime scene. The chemical reaction between luminol and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) the oxidizing agent, catalyzed by the iron in blood, reveals this presence. When investigating a crime scene, investigators use luminol joined by other chemicals; such as hydrogen peroxide, to search for blood evident. In order for the luminol to react with the hydrogen peroxide in a glowing manner, a catalyst is needed. In this case, the substance that increases the rate of the chemical reaction; the catalyst, is the iron in blood. The iron atoms are found in the haemoglobin within blood. The reaction produces a cyclic peroxide and releases energy, essentially causing the blue, chemiluminescent lightvisible when observing under a blacklight. This reaction was developed so that crime investigators and scientists present at a crime scene can view blood that may not be visible to the naked eye. The forensic industry is greatly impacted by this reaction because it has provided essential evidence and information needed to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A chemical reaction involving luminol can result in chemiluminescence when coming in contact with other substances other than blood. It can react with copper, horseradish sauce, fecal matter, and certain types of bleaches. This can be difficult for forensic scientists because bleach solution is often used to thoroughly clean crime scenes by criminals prior to investigation. This is a problem because when luminol and an oxidant is sprayed throughout the crime scene, a chemiluminescence glows throughout the whole area, disguising any areas that may have had blood prior to the thorough clean ... • 4. Comparing Way To Rainy Mountain And Being Country Essay 2Scott Momaday s The Way to Rainy Mountain and Bobbie Ann Mason s Being Country are two the texts to be compared. Though they share similarities, they too are quite different. They both share similar topics, in that they are two stories of cultures, but written from different perspectives of their cultures. Momaday is from the Kiowas tribe of the plains of Oklahoma, and Mason from a farm in Mayfield, Kentucky. Both exhibit some comparisons, but mostly contrasts throughout their writing. Momaday s American Indian heritage dates back to the 1880 s when his grandmother was born, where Mason s dairy farm heritage takes place starting when she was born in 1940. I found both to be stories of each of the author s lives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Momaday shows contentment in his work. Mason, on the other hand, shows more resentment in hers. Bobby Ann Mason begins by describing the simplicity of how her family lives. She begins this writing from when she was eleven years old. Her mom and Granny were very dedicated farm women. They took care of all of the food, clothing and just about anything else needed for them to run a household. As Mason shows, they prove to be very resourceful and are capable of making the most out of what they have available. On a typical day of food preparation by Mason s mom and Granny, Mason screams Can t y all talk about anything but food? There was a shocked silence. Well, what else is there ? Granny asked. Granny didn t question a women s duties, but I did. I wanted to be somebody, maybe an airline stewardess. Also, I had been listening to the radio. I had notions (106). She was beginning to develop her independence. Mason thought she would strive to better herself to not have to suffer her mother s fate. She almost seems to be developing anxiety and depression over food, though her family always seems to get by with plenty. I think this dependence on nature was at the core of my rebellion. I hated the constant sense of helplessness before vast forces, the continuous threat of failure...I especially hated women s part in the dependence (106). She talks of ... • 5. Dog Collar Keeping your dog safe is a concern for every pet owner. There are many ways to protect your pet including fencing in your yard, gating off areas where they could get hurt, and giving them the proper care and nutrition. One of the simplest ways to keep them safe is a collar and pet tags. Collars help with petidentification, exercise, and can be used for training purposes. Many types of collars are available and it may be hard to choose the right one for your dog. The three main purposes of a collar are for control, identification, and fashion. Most have a place for the identification and vaccination tags to be attached as well as a place for a leash. A basic nylon collar can be used for a house dog that just needs identification tags to help find their home if they get loose. Larger breeds may need a stronger collar. Included in these are quick release collars that clasp with a plastic clip and breakaway collars that have a safety clip which allows them to get free if they get caught on something. Harnesses wrap around the body and are very good for smaller dogs. When the dog lunges, they will not choke themselves or get free. Choke collars are used for dog training. They can be made of medal, leather, or nylon. They have rings at either end that allow it to cinch up when the leash is pulled and then released after the dog has been corrected. Pinch collars have prongs on the inside of the collar and pressure is placed on the dog s neck when pulled. On February 14, 2012 it became an integral part of this new found world of democracy and freedom. For 15 million, Mexico ceded more than one third of its territory and the U.S. acquired all of Arizona north of the Gila River (McClory, 2001). Unfortunately, southern Arizona still was in control by Mexico, which included Tucson. Arizona and New Mexico became one territory called the Territory of New Mexico. Soon after, the United States paid another 10 million for 30,000 square miles of the Mexican territory that included Tucson. Congress thought the purchase was meaningless because it was just desert land. The Gadsden Purchase gave the final boundary that Arizona has today. In 1860, along with the constitution, a governor and other elected officials were established. That was unfortunately short lived because of the Civil War. In 1862, Union troops entered the state and placed it under martial rule, this action further delayed Arizona s official admission as a state (McClory, 2011). The Territorial Period Congress finally pushed for Arizona to have separate territorial status because of the discovery of precious metals. On February, 24, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Organic Act, which officially created Arizona s territory (McClory, 2001). • 11. Blanche Dubois Patriarchy Tennessee William s A Streetcar Named Desire distorts truth within Blanche s mind ( I don t tell the truth. I tell what ought to be the truth ) to the extent that veracity itself is disintegrated unconsciously into her inner deceptive conflict of illusion and reality. Williams externalises this conflict in the typification of Blanche and Stanley as Nietzsche s Apollonian Dionysian dialectic in the inevitable destruction of Blanche in her lies, coerced by women s suffering due to the onslaught of patriarchy. Back to secrets and lies The deaths that Blanche suffers engender her characterisation as the Apollonian in her world of delusion and lies. Allan s suicide becomes the first of Blanche s traumatic encounters with death ( All of those deaths! The long parade to the graveyard ) embodying in her personified monologue the imminence of death ( Why, the Grim Reaper had put up his tent on our doorstep! ). Further, this necrophobia and her guilt for Allan s suicide, elicited by the leitmotif Varsouviana provokes her deterioration into her fantasy as a substratum of her anguish, becoming the epitome of the Apollonian. Moreover, Allan s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stanley thrusts Blanche into insanity as means to assert dominance and affirm his reality by nullifying Blanche s judgement. Ergo, she has no true escape in the rhetoric question how could I stay here with him, after last night, with just those curtains between us? The novel Raisin in the Sun and the circumstances of the Moulin Rouge Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, tell how racism destroyed dreams and crushed the soul through discrimination and lost opportunity. But there s another side to the racismstory. For some of the oppressed, discrimination and hardship will be fought with perseverance and achievement. In both the fictional Raisin in the Sun and the historical Moulin Rouge Casino, a black woman, against great odds, will achieve personal and historic success. Racism in America directed toward black peopleoriginated over 300 years ago with the first importation of black slaves into the America from Africa (Frederickson). While great progress in eliminating explicit racism has taken place, American society has far to go in ensuring that blacks have the same protections, advantages and freedoms as whites. Racial discrimination in this country continues to harm millions of black Americans whether it is through an inferior education, unfair treatment in the judicial and law enforcement systems or delivery of sub optimal health care. While the government can play a role in solving this problem with legislation, equitable law enforcement and national education, it will also take a recognition of the problem and then a focused, long term effort by generations of families to acknowledge and remove the many stumbling blocks of ... They always try to keep them as happy as can be and make sure the children have everything that they need and want. Most parents want to keep their children happy, and associating them with toys and the things that they want equates to happiness. Some children may deserve some of what is given to them, but other children may be given everything that they want. Busy parents, or parents who are not home a lot, feel that since they do not spend the time with their children that they must shower them in gifts. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This type of behavior leads to the idea of entitlement with children and teenagers. They already have it in their heads that they need this or want that, but as soon as the parents give in, they know that they can get away with it. Amy McCready, who partners with Kids R Kids for the expert parenting advice series states that, the two biggest culprits for the entitlement epidemic are over indulging and pampering. The child or teen gets what they want and have no gratitude or appreciation towards their parents. At a young age, children automatically depend on their parents. When they are babies and toddlers, they cannot do the things to maintain themselves. When a child or teen is spoiled, they rely on their parents to help them out whenever they are in need. There are cases in which the parent loves the idea that the child needs them, and doesn t give the child any type of responsibility. They do everything that the child asks or wants them to do just to keep them happy. This can lead to unmotivated children, since they know that their parents will do it themselves. Parents give their children a little money here and there, so now they believe that they do not need to work for it. In depend people, they cannot do anything on their own; they always require someone else to be there. Researchers Connie Dawson and David J. What are the implications of your analysis for our understanding of technological innovations? You are advised to choose technologies we have been discussing in the lectures and seminars. There is no denying that technology has been an ever apparent part of the human society. Today, technology is used in a variety of ways and is essential for the survival of the human society. While technology is wholly accepted as an essential part of life, there has always been a debate whether it is technology that revolutionizes society or society that influences technology, ... For example, the creation of a laptop, which stemmed from the creation of the computer or the steam boat which came about due to the application of 2 previous inventions, the boat and the steam engine (Petrakaki, 2014). Hence it argues that these creations cannot be considered new as it draws upon something that already exists and not disembodied inspiration as mentioned by MacKenzie and Wajcman (1985). In Social Determinism, technology does have a limited amount of power as it may open up more opportunities, however the choice to exploit it remains in society s power (White, 1978). Technology is not independent and requires an existing infrastructure to be able to run, like a mobile phone, which requires connections with network towers before it can be used to make phone calls. Social Determinism also talks about how the shaping of technology can be due to economic, political, cultural reasons and by social norms. In terms of economic reasons, the progress in technology has often been linked with improving profit or revenue margins as well as reducing costs (Petrakaki, 2014). For example, the assembly line, which came about in the 1800s, was made to improve the efficiency and reduce costs for companies, as it required lesser manpower (Walker, 1952). Culture does shape technology, as the same form of technology may possess different features in different countries. For example, in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The guidon is thought to have originated from ancient Egytptian times, where it was believed to have represented rulers and the armies they commanded. The idea endured well into medieval European times as it was used to depict each commanders specific coat of arms. Later, battle honors were added to the colours, which made them even more significant and were revered even more by members of the regiment. The colours are never destroyed capriciously anymore. When they get too old and worn out to be used or displayed as the uit standard, they are moved to museums until they moulder into dust. However, in modern armies, if the colours are in danger of being captured by the enemy, there are standing orders for them to be destroyed. It is for this reason and the advent of modern weapons, and subsequent changes in tactics, colours are no longer carried into battle. However, they are still used at formal events and ceremonies. The word guidon derives from the Italian guidone meaning guide or marker and/or the Middle French corruption guyd hommes, hence it is the focus for soldiers in battle. The significance of the guidon is that it represents the unit and its commanding officer. When the commander is in, his or her guidon is displayed for everyone to see. When he leaves for the day, the guidon is taken down. It is an honor, although sometimes a dubious one, to be the guidon carrier for a unit, known as a guidon bearer or guide . The change from their teenage years to adulthood made them question religion, friendships, and fate. J. D. Not long after the inception of the Articles of Confederation, it became clear that the several states functioning as independent units would not be able to provide a sufficient defense for the whole country. Following a constitutional convention, the present day Constitution was devised with a federal structure with three co equal branches endowed with certain enumerated functions. During the period from the Revolution to the Civil war, America s branches of government had always been in constant conflict. However, the period of reconstruction brought this strife to the forefront. It is inaccurate per se, to characterize this strife as one solely of branches of government competing for supremacy; rather, it is better characterized as a struggle of competing political goals. To understand Reconstruction, it is important to understand how differing ideologies understood the goals of reconstructing this country following the Civil War. This period was defined by the two party system that we know today: Democrats and Republicans. Following Reconstruction, the outer reaches of the Republican Party were defined by complete redefinition of the south. Specifically, many Republicans advocated for ridding the southern aristocracy of their property as well as their life styles. During this period bills were introduced by Republican congressman to redistribute the wealth of the southern aristocracy from wealthy slave owner planters to newly freed slaves. ... However, Malory also influenced the romanticizing of courtly relationships and allowed space for women to be adored and favored in the eyes of the reader. However, another great influence that reveals a shift in the social and political view of gender is the differences in time. Naturally, in a comparative piece of writing like T.H. This education policy was conceived at a time of prosperity, so whether the government continues to increase spending remains to be seen. The new legislation focuses on a pertinent aspect of education, raising standards for students, but determining funding by test scores does not guarantee widespread results. This new policy relies on the threat tactic of schools improving for fear of federal funding being reduced; if a school does not meet the new standards, how will reducing funding improve it? The government will continue funding school districts which are already capable of invoking sufficient test scores, while cutting back funding to the districts which can not, offering the alternative of government funded transportation to another school. This is the legislation s flaw: it should be teachers taking proficiency tests periodically to display their qualifications in order to remain teaching. Most teachers are dedicated to their own education, and so would not likely oppose such a policy. Instead we have the federal government holding funding with the justification of accountability over school districts, demanding improved test scores. • 34. Skull Wars Summary Archeologist Brian Fagan once wrote that If we are ignorant of the past, someone will rewrite it for us. In the book Skull Wars by Kennewick Man, David Hurst Thomas explores the history of Anthropology and its relationship between American Indians and European Descent. This novel reveals the underlying truth, hardship and reality of who Christopher Columbus once called Los Indios. In the book Skull Wars by Kennewick Man, Brian Fagan s Statement of the rewriting of the past can relate to Skull Wars in numerous ways. I Agree with his statement and believe that if we do not care or learn about what has really happened in the past, why would it be so hard for mainstream American society to feed us misinterpreted stories today? Kennewick Man has also taken a huge step forward in revealing the truth on why todays Indians resent and distrust both anthropology and archeology. But how has the history of interaction between Native American people and their displacers shaped the way I approach and think of Native American prehistory? Firstly, there are numerous Examples of European interactions with American Indians. From the beginning Indians focused on Trade as a major role in receiving and selling goods. For example, the Indians traded much with European explorers and colonists. Many Native hunters demanded deer hides that Indians were very skilled at making. Indians demanded thing such as iron tools, copper pots and glass beads. As a result of trade many French people developed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Relationship Among Aboriginal Population, Age and Shelter Costs Course: SOC222H Professor s Name Riva Lieflander Name: Yingjun Li Student ID: 1000677957 Date: 04/20/2015 Introduction The 2006 Census Public Use Microdata File (PUMF) involved a total of 844,476 people. Participants were randomly selected in a manner that represented all social characteristics that existed among Canadians. Technically, it was estimated that the number represented only 2.7% of the Canadian population. It is also on record that the 2006 PUMF involved a total of 123 population variables, of which 83% (102) represented individual variables, while the remaining 17% (21) of all variables used represented family, dwelling, and household variables. The purpose of this research is to determine how the cost of shelters and age distribution affects the Aboriginal people of Canada in relation to the 2006 Census Public Use Microdata File (PUMF) on individuals. The research employs both age distribution and shelter cost as major variables affecting the Aboriginal population. The research will conduct an inferential statistical analysis on three major variables: Aboriginal population, shelter cost, and age. For the purpose of this research, both age and shelter costs will be employed as independent variables relating to the overall Aboriginal population, which is the dependent variable. The founding of America s first two long lasting colonies kindled a sequence that helped to construct not only the nation, but the world. The topic of whether Jamestown would be a better fit for a settler than Plymouth or vice versa has sparked much controversy. Both share similarities and differences in their early colonial settlements. Which settlement is superior? Although that question is up for debate, there is one thing that is certain, it depends on who is settling into the colony. For this reason, a man from Holland in search of a career in fishing and trading and an escape from religious persecution would prefer Plymouth over Jamestown. To begin with, in 1607, 104 men arrived in what was later called Jamestown, Virginia. Fatal problems soon emerged quickly after the settlement, mainly from the first settlers own mistakes. Some people argue that video games have many negative effects including poor eyesight and inattention. The TED talk by Daphne Bavelier (2012) discusses some of the current research regarding the effect video games have on your brain. Bavelier (2012) talks more specifically about the effects of action video games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops and similarly formatted games on a person s vision and attention span. Antoine Watteau s La Perspective Antoine Watteau s La Perspective (View through the Trees in the Park of Pierre Crozat) uses many elements of the Rococo style of painting to instill a sense of intimacy. In this painting, members of the elite society gather unceremoniously in a wooded clearing. The people make casual exchanges as they mingle in the park. Trees and foliage dominate a majority of the painting. A small white building can be seen in the background through a clearing in the trees. Watteau uses color, composition, setting, and pose in the painting to create intimacy. It is evident through the peoples clothing that these are in fact members of the elite. Both men and women are clad in expensive, adorned clothing. They sit on the ground in their ornate clothes. While the clothing appears formal, the event does not. There is an overt sense of leisure and intimacy established through the social exchanges in this painting. A man in the foreground is playing a guitar to a lady, which adds a cheery, relaxed mood. On the right side of the painting, children play on the ground, which shows how this is a joyful event. While there are many social interactions being made, the people in this painting are very generalized. Watteau purposely does not paint many of the people s faces to put emphasis on the landscape and setting. The setting of La Perspective is most utilized to create intimacy. Cholera is a bacterial disease (caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae) usually spread through contaminated water. The bacteria, which are found in fecal contaminated food and water and in raw or undercooked seafood, produce a toxin that affects the intestines causing diarrhea, vomiting, and severe fluid and electrolyte loss. This overwhelming dehydration is the outstanding characteristic of the disease and is the main cause of death. Cholera has a short incubation period (two or three days) and runs a quick course. In this setting, the disease occurs primarily in young children, who are exposed to the organism for the first time, and in the elderly, who have lower gastric acid production and waning immunity. The poor are at greatest risk because they often lack safe water supplies, are unable to maintain proper hygiene within the home, and may depend on street vendors or other unregulated sources for food and drink. Recent epidemiologic research suggests that an individual s susceptibility to cholera (and other diarrheal infections) is affected by their blood type: those with type O blood are the most susceptible, while those with type AB are the most resistant. Between these two extremes are the A and B blood types, with type A being more resistant than type B. Signs and Symptoms * Dry mucus membranes or mouth * Dry skin * Excessive thirst * Glassy or sunken eyes * Lack of tears * Lethargy * Low urine output * Nausea * Rapid dehydration * Abdominal cramps * Watery diarrhea * Rapid pulse * Vomiting The usual incubation period is 2 to 5 days, although it can be as short as several hours. • 48. Explain The Five Steps To Describe Baye Theorem And... Lauren Berman Chapter 8 Biostatistics Data 1.) Describe Bayes theorem and alternative to Bayes theorem. Bayes theorem is used to answer two different questions, If the test results are positive, what is the probability that the patient has the disease? and If the test results are negative, what is the probability that the patient does not have the disease (93). In the formula for Bayes theorem, the numerator is the true positive results and the denominator tells about true positive results and false positive results. An alternative to Bayes theorem is used in genetics (94). 2.) Explain the five steps to setting up a decision tree. There are five steps involved in creating a decision tree. The first step is to identify and set limits to the problem, for example whether or not the gallbladder of a person without symptoms should be removed. The second step is to diagram the options. This can be done by starting with the patient s current clinical status, then laying out the different options and the outcomes that could come from each option. The third step is to obtain information on each option. In this step, the possibility of each outcome occurring should be assessed and then the outcomes should be separated into desirable and undesirable outcomes. The fourth step is to compare utility values and the fifth step is to perform sensitivity analysis (97 98). 3.) Define the two different types of meta analysis. A qualitative meta analysis is a systemic review of the literature on a particular topic (99). Different articles on the same topic are reviewed and the results, strengths, and weaknesses of each article are assessed. A quantitative meta analysis can be presented in two ways, either the data are analyzed as reported in the literature, or the raw data from multiple studies are obtained and aggregated (100). 4.) Explain the difference between independence rule, product rule, and addition rule. The independence rule says that one probability is not influenced by the outcome of another probability (101). In this situation, if the two probabilities are independent of each other, then the trial can be repeated twice in a row and multiple times. The product rule is used to determine the ... • 49. Political Polarization And Culture War Essay Political scientists Wilson and Fiorina both tackle the concepts of party polarization and culture war through the lens of the 2004 U.S presidential election. In 2016, their musings are, for the most part, still highly applicable. Neither denies the existence of either a culture war or political polarization. Rather, their theses differ in the extent to which they apply these terms to the general electorate rather than to the political elites. Wilson argues that both elites and voters are polarized, a phenomenon driven by the media, homogenization of political parties, and interest groups.1 However, Fiorina maintains that the polarization in the voting patterns of the electorate is merely a reflection of elitepartisan stances rather than the polarization of the voters themselves.2 In examining their arguments, it is evident that Fiorina had the more tenable thesis in regard to the polarization of the electorate in 2004. Yet this does not preclude the existence of a culture war that has led polarization in 2016. Today, Wilson s theories are more applicable to the political and cultural context. Looking towards the 2018 midterm elections, the Democratic party in particular should focus on cultivating moderate stances that can appeal to both Democrats and Republicans with the aim of gaining seats in the Senate and House of Representatives. Writing in the political landscape prior to the 2004 presidential election, Fiorina frequently invokes the 2000 presidential election as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brave New World Analysis In Aldous Huxley s Brave New World, Bernard Marx discovers the vivid emotion of nature through his visit to the Savage Reservation, America s last remnant of unadulterated wilderness and humanity in a bleak, dystopian world. Writing critically on society, Huxley comments on the degradation of morals, and the rise of a superfluous and perpetually distracted, albeit technologically advanced, world, amid the dying influence of nature. Similarly, in his 2008 book, Last Child in the Woods, Richard Louvexpresses concern over the widening divide between people and nature, in particular children and nature. Citizens in Huxley s novel are infatuated with dazzlingly visual entertainment machines, which provide transitory pleasure; likewise, Americans today have forgone nature for equally trivial technological pursuits. Louv s sharp critique on the bastardization of nature for short sighted whims, and his concern about the effects of isolating children from nature, are achieved and expressed through exploring science s relationship to nature, several subsequent illustrative examples, and ironic social commentary through these techniques, Louv calls for action to preserve posterity s interest in and exposure to nature s romantic beauty. Louv s reportage on the State University of New York s scientific achievement and inclusion of commentary by Richtel jointly reveal society s enthusiasm about synthetic nature, and thus by extension the perceived unimportance of true nature. ... All kinds of people, from ambassadors to apprentices came to watch them. The audience loved the special use of, and play with language, and the rapid pace on stage. The culture of an audience at that time was very oral, the spectators always had a witty comment up their sleeve and did not hesitate to shout a response to the actors on stage. This made the actors both actors and people, a certain duality was played at. All of the actors of the Elizabethan time were men. It was against the law to allow women on stage, at least in the big public plays. Women were by far the weaker sex, despite of having a queen running the country. The props used in this play were few but adequate. Both the props and the costumes were well made and played an important role in making the play successful. Some critics have said that this play is an attack on Puritanism, where Malvolio represents the puritan who is quite disliked by everybody around him. The Democracy Of A Democratic Government A democratic government is one in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation (Merriam Webster). In theory, a true democracy is one that is governed by the people in the form of the rule of the majority . This is a process that seems to have been naturally embedded in the human mind. In many circumstance, whether it is world leaders deciding on new international policy, or kids choosing what to watch for movie night , the rule of the majority seems to often prevail. Even so, in certain recognized democratic nations such as Canada, the rule of the majority is not triumphant. It is inevitable that any political system would have its shortcomings, but there are some flaws that are difficult to overlook especially those that seem to undermine the democratic credibility of a nation. Due to a variety of factors, such as politically inactive citizens and a not so representative electoral system, it is evident that the Canadian democracyis lacking democracy. By international standards, the Canadian democratic system is considered healthy; Canada regularly receives the maximum score on global assessments of civil liberties, political rights and overall quality of democracy.
