The Apostle Paul s Influence On Christianity
Chase Bryer
As Christianity developed in the Roman Empire in first centuries A.D., its adherents were
persecuted as a minority religion known for its distinct sexual ethic. The emergence of Christianity
initiated an entirely new phase in the history of sexuality and challenged the societal customs of the
ancient Roman world. Through the primary influences of the Christian practice of self control and
the Apostle Paul s distinct radical sexual ideology in a time of rampant sexual exploitation, early
Christian attitudes toward sexual morality were formed and continue to withstand society s most
basic shared ideas.
During the transformation in Rome from a predominately polytheistic culture to one of Christianity
in the wake of an Ancient patriarchal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Christians, the physical body lay at the heart of what it meant to be a free person destined
for communion with God. In contrast to Gnosticism, The Apostle Paul exclaims, I discipline my
body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be
disqualified (1 Cor. 9:27). The Apostle Paul also stated that it is better to marry than to burn
with desire, conceding that others may feel the need for sexual release. However, there is some
discussion about the word burn, and whether it relates to sexual desire or to eternal damnation
for those who practice sex outside the bonds of matrimony. For followers of Christ, the physical
body was regarded as a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit, and adherents were tasked with glorifying
God [with their] body (1 Cor. 6:19). Christians were commanded not to escape their earthly bodies
and be merely passers by, as Gnostics suggested, but instead, to present [their] bodies as a living
sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this [was their] spiritual worship (Romans 12:1 2). Thus, the
body is an essential symbol of Christianity. There are various other disputes among the Gnostics and
the Christians regarding the nature of humans and fleshy

Media Impact On Teenagers
The Media and Body Image of Teenagers What s on the outside doesn t matter, its what s on the
inside that matters . We hear sayings such as this all the time, yet we live in a society that
contradicts this idea constantly. There is no doubt that due to media, the way teens see
themselves has changed. The media is setting unrealistic beauty standards, which influences
everyone, and this is having a detrimental affect on adolescents. The impact of media on
teenagers is appalling. These beauty standards are negatively affecting teenage girls as well as
teenage boys, and due to the prominence of this issue, several efforts are being made to combat
this. Firstly, the media has greatly affected the way teenage girls now look at themselves and
specifically at their bodies. This is encouraged by the ideal body image that is created by the
media. For some reason, the ideal image is portrayed as a skinny, tall, size 2 model with perfect
skin. And if you don t have that, there s hope yet because having an hourglass body is equally
appreciated. These are not realistic images as no more than 15% of women actually look like
this. Then there is the concept of fat versus thick. This is the idea that having extra fat below
your waist is known as thick but having extra fat above your waist is considered fat . In today s
media being thick is a compliment yet no one wants to be fat. Many people don t understand
how real this problem actually is. In fact, celebrities such as Emma Watson have talked about
how they continuously feel pressured by the media to look a certain way and she says that when
she didn t meet those expectations, she would fall into anxiety. She says, If that s how I feel and
I get to be the person who s on the cover of those magazines how s anyone else meant to cope?
This is proof that the ideal body image is not realistic, even for celebrities, and due to this, it is
almost impossible for fashion companies to find models that fit this standard. So, many labels and
companies have resorted to using a process called airbrushing. This involves retouching photos to
remove what the media refers to as flaws and it can also be used to change or enhance the image.
These transforms photos using programs

Legal Developments in Western Civilization
Legal Developments in Western Civilization
The span of Western Civilization encompasses many notable achievements in legal development.
As empires rise and expand, it becomes necessary to create a legal code that standardizes
punishment, institutes a form of common law, and protects society from arbitrary abuses of
power. These principles were formally established relatively early in the western world, and
became the foundations upon which later government institutions created their legal systems. The
Code of Hammurabi, the Twelve Tables, and Magna Carta, all represent key moments in the
evolution of legal thought and practice. Not only do they show the legal and political direction of
the empires, but also the progression of their social values The Babylonian empire s success was
due in large part to its powerful sixth king, Hammurabi who reigned from 1792 1750 B.C.E. At the
age of twenty five he succeeded to the throne and devoted the first thirty years of his reign to wars
of conquest. His military success meant that his empire now possessed a diverse population that
was difficult to placate. To aid in unifying the empire and making punishments standard and
universal, he issued the Code of Hammurabi. In three hundred clauses, Hammurabi established the
rudiments of common law. Though not a set of statutes to be cited, it did provide judges with
examples of past decisions handed down for various disputes. His concept of justice was reflected
in the biblical

The Importance Of Clock Reaction
A clock reaction is where the fusion of various reagents, with relation to time, cause a colour
change in the solution. The end of the reaction rate is measured by the increase in the rate of
concentration. There are two factors which contribute to the rate of the reaction, induction and
inhibition. Induction is where the production rate of the clock chemical increases as the
increases as the concentration of the solution increases. Whereas, Inhibition is where the
chemical reacts with the clock chemical, increasing the concentration. The increase in the rate
can only occur if all of the inhibitor chemical is consumed within the reaction (S.J Preece, 1999).
Some examples of clock reactions are the arsenic (III) sulfide clock reaction, and Landolt iodine
clock oxidation of bisulphite by iodate. This specific reaction is stated to be one of the most
favourable clock reactions, showing a deep blue colour within a matter of seconds. This specific
reaction involves two colourless solutions that mix together after a certain amount of time it
yields a blue colour change. The chemical equilibrium is a formula used to describe the rate in
reverse reactions. Chemical Equilibria: Rate = k [A]^p [B]^q The rate law will also be used to
analyse the concentrations, and to determine whether the reaction is zero order, first order or a
second order reaction. Secondary data obtained from another investigation was rate = k[IO3] 1

Essay about apeuro dbq on the poor
The Europeans between the 1450 s and 1700 s held many negative attitudes towards the poor
themselves and the idlers who they believed were a menace to society. Also during this time period
the Europeans had many responses like in England where they put them in poorhouses or tried to
heal them or in others places where they tried to give them alms.
During this time period many Europeans held negative attitudes toward helping the poor due to
the idle and lazy who go around begging as if they are poor. Emperor Charles V in a royal decree
wrote how indiscriminately giving alms will result in idleness which is the root of all evils
(Document 4). Emperor Charles V has the POV of an emperor who sees that the idle are mooching

Many European felt that idlers were mooching off them and taking away alms from the poor who
actually couldn t get jobs due to illness causing a distaste of them by the Europeans.
Even though many Europeans saw only the idlers as the problems, many others had negative
attitudes to all poor people. Juan Luis Vives who was a Spanish humanist wrote in, On Assistance
to the Poor, that when a family becomes poor that the men begin to steal, the women become
prostitutes, and their children grow up and become accustomed to this lifestyle while those with
money believe the poor to not deserve their alms (Document 3). The POV of Vives is that of a
humanist who feels they know the deeper meaning of all human, and he sees them as deplorable
creatures who when pushed against a wall become thieving animals while those with money don
t even try to better these poor peoples lives by thinking that the poor don t deserve their charity.
Jean Maillefer, a wealthy French merchant, wrote to his children that the poor have grown
accustom to being poor and they cannot leave due to them having no cares, bills, and fears while
they feel great independence (Document 11). Maillefer s POV is that the poor have no worries
and are independent because they have no job which comes from him hearing them talk about and
also from how he works long and hard every day while fearing that he has to pay rent and taxes

Heroine Complex Essay
I just realized I ve never rated Heroine Complex upon reading it last year. I m completely blown
away by this book. In our age where superhero is the new pop culture, it s quite difficult to find a
series featuring women of color as the center of heroic resistance. There s a few representations
for POC in comics and other medium content but that s only a scrap if we re going to compare it
on how white peopledominate every single genre. This is why Heroine Complex is equally
refreshing. It frames a different kind of norm in superherouniverse while simultaneously providing
an entertaining, swoony story.
The book follows Evie Tanaka, the best friend and assistant of San Francisco s most reveled
superheroine Aveda Jupiter. Their usual dynamic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dynamics between characters are one of my favorite kinks while reading, it s not a surprise
I will focus on that element! Props to Kuhn because this book focuses on a heroine who s usually
the sidekick. Evie doesn t have a flair for dramatics, she s level headed, passionate, and reliable.
She s been the assistant of Aveda since her best friend donned her costume. Unfortunately, their
friendship isn t all sunshine and rainbows. Her boss is demanding, manipulative, and so self
consumed. There s power imbalance between them, and Aveda just knows what the right words to
say to Evie to make her do something. She sounds so awful, that s because she is. The narrative
didn t excuse how she s been unappreciative. Instead, there s emphasis on repairing the friendship
between them and there s self love and healing.
My frigid heart couldn t help but to be swayed with Aveda s arc. Everyone seems to love her, but
nobody really knows the true her. She s hardworking, she has visions for herself. She s not
naturally born with talents (whatever that means,) she has to work hard for it. The tragedy
someone can do it better than her. On the outside, she seems to have everything, she s untouchable;
but truly she s just another girl who s are still stuck by her insecurities and inadequacies. I can t
wait to see her progress in Heroine Worship.

The First Year Writing Program
Throughout the semester, the first year writing program gave students the privilege to become
improved writers. Students received the opportunity to identify their strengths and weaknesses and
come to a conclusion on what makes favorable writing. While writing the assigned essays this
semester, I realized being able to read and write about something that is relatable is extremely
critical. When an individual can relate to what they are reading, they will be more engaged
compared to reading a piece that fails to connect to them. Although the first year writingprogram
succeeded in building up betterwriters, there is always room for improvement. The program could
consider new pieces of work and content that is recent that students can form an opinion on and
relate to.
While writing, individuals should always keep in mind, honesty, personal experience, and
sending a message. Incorporating these values into a paper results in a piece of writing that is
relatable and clear to understand. Personal experience and examples provide a reasonable amount
of evidence for a reader. This will show that the topic being written about can happen and impact
any individual. Also, honesty is crucial when wanting to make a point about the topic being written
about. Writing that sends a message is essential due to the fact that the reader can identify that the
author is writing for a purpose and wants the reader to take away a lesson or idea from reading that
piece.

The idea of QuГ©bec separating from Canada isn t as popular as it once was, twenty one years
ago. In the 1980 s and 90 s, QuГ©bec sovereignty left the country divided, and the 1995 referendum
showed how QuГ©bec and Canada had a tumultuous relationship. All of Canada was affected, but
this debate targeted mostly English Canadians and French Canadians. The lack of unity between
both cultures resulted in the Quiet Revolution in 1960 s, which was the starting point for the
sovereignty movement. The inability of QuГ©bec and Canadato resolve their differences regarding
QuГ©bec separation resulted in events that affected the whole country.

Meanwhile, the overall price level dropped by about 1/3. Many people blamed the crash for the
economical collapse. Some people held responsible were President Hoover, brokers, bankers, and
businessmen. The cause of the depression cannot be linked to one individual or even a group of
people. It is also unlikely that the crash of the market would have been large enough to lead the US
economy into the depression and to sustain the downward spiral in business activity. (1929В…)
Why People Invested in the Stock Market During 1929, people invested in the stock market for 5
major reasons. The first was that the market was considered an easy way to get rich, quick.
Although, about 4 million Americans, a small amount, invested in the stock market at one time.
The constant influx of new investors coming in and old investors moving out ensured that new
money was always flowing around. (1929В…) Another reason was higher wages. This meant that
everyone in America had extra money to put into savings or invest in the market. The 3rd reason
was that at this time, money was made more readily available, from banks, at a lower interest rate
to more people. Some economist debated that this influenced the stock market, it is conceivable that
people took loans to buy more stock. (1929В…) The fourth reason is that industry was over

The Capture Rate Of Pokemon
The Capture Rate of PokГ©mon in the First Generation
Name: Swikriti Dasgupta
Teacher: Mr. Hardman
Period: 6
Introduction: In 1996, the video game company Nintendo, released a game that revolutionized
gaming. They came up with the video game PokГ©mon . Although I am a girl, I consider myself a
gamer at heart. This game is something that is very dear to me because this game established a
strong relationship between my sister and I. I have always been inquisitive in nature therefore I
always wondered if I could relate my hobby of gaming to math. Although math is a struggle for
me, I have decided to step out of my comfort and explore the first game I played in my life and
investigate the use of math in the capture rate of the pokemons. This was a simple 2 D, 64 bit
game that involved the players moving a character in a fictional world, capturing balls and going
on adventures. Players would have to solve difficult puzzles and train their own PokГ©mon in
order to progress through the game. They do this by meeting progressively stronger computer
controlled trainers along the way and battling with their PokГ©mon. The player s PokГ©mon gain
experience through defeating the opponent. The players can also capture new ones as well.
Generally, as the player progresses, stronger PokГ©mon appear, and the players have a chance to
capture them. They do this by throwing a tennis sized ball that will transport the entire PokГ©mon
into the ball that they threw with.

Persuasive Essay On The Use Of Technology
How do most people view the functions of the world? Is there a consensus on how certain things are
handled, or utilized? Today, there are new temptations, and functions that were nonexistent three
decades ago. Such as the advancements in technology, and communication, an unfair economy that
bounces up and down, and lastly, a government that plays a major role in the daily lives of
Americans. With this, I will create a utopia, that cancels out the negatives of these changes.
In the past decade, technology has drastically changed our daily lives. We are now able to
communicate with one another, regardless of the physical boundaries that surround us.
However, these advancements in technology, have caused new issues that did not previously
exists. In my utopia, I would not ban the usage of technology, but I would regulate how is it
used. Today, there is Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat etc. These apps dominate the
minds of daily Americans. With these apps, people can communicate with one another, without
directly pointing out a specific person. This could be used as a positive tool but, in most cases it
is used negatively. Such as, to bully or tear down others. For example, on Instagram the pictures
that get the most likes, are the ones who compare people to one another. The caption is usually,
Me VS you . Social media has created a perfect platform of falsity. To correct this false hood, and
forms of bullying, my utopia would create new apps, that strictly regulate what is being posted.
Technology would be used in its greatest, positive potential. Efficient communication with others,
would be its one and only offer. Citizens would still be able to post, and access apps created for
my utopia. Their time spent on the internet though, would be limited per day. This would be to
ensure face to face social skills, that would be required in my utopia.
Today s economy has re established the modern day classes. The United States is now composed

Race and Caribbean Culture
Race and Caribbean Culture Each culture is unique in its attitudes about which groups within
the cultural community will comprise the majority and which the minority. The culture also
determines how the minority culture will be treated and how the two groups will be classified.
Often, differentiation of groups is determined by race, rather than things like religion or class.
Throughout literary history, authors have endeavored to capture the past as well as recreate and
articulate sociological inequalities within that past. Issues of race, being one of the primary
examples of social inequality, often appear in controversial and important works of literature. In
the Caribbean Sea, people have had to deal with centuries of racial prejudices and sociological
inequity, since the first explorers arrived on the island and demanded that those with darker
skins become the slaves of those with light skin. Three particular works of literature, Wide
Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, The Kingdom of This World by Alejo Carpenter, and The Farming of
Bones by author Edwidge Danticat have recreated the historical scenarios of life in the Caribbean
during the time of oppression of the native peoples by white Europeans and shows just how
disturbing and destructive attitudes of superiority and inferiority regarding racial differences can
truly be. Perhaps the most famous example of literature regarding Caribbean oppression is Wide
Sargasso Sea, by Jean Rhys. In this novel, a white woman named

The Burning Of Our House Analysis
There is a definite distinction between American literature written during the Colonial times and
literature written after the colonization of America. Colonial American literature was written by
American authors who were experiencing something completely new and different to them. They
had never been colonists or traitors to their mother country, Great Britain, before and this showed in
their literature. One prominent theme throughout Colonial literature is the importance of God.
Puritanauthor, Anne Bradstreet, made this apparent in her poem, The Burning of Our House.
Instead of feeling the emotions of anger and sadness due to the fact all of her belongings were
destroyed, she looked at the fire as a sign from God that he was taking his possessions that were
rightfully his. Colonial literature is rich in Puritan voices and, consequently, Puritan beliefs.
Persuasive rhetoric is apparent throughout much of Colonial literature. America was a blank slate
for them and colonists wanted to fill that slate with the government they thought best fit their ideals.

Topics that range from women s place in society to construction of government to the importance
of God are easily identifiable in prose during this time. This shows how diverse and freethinking
colonists were. Colonial writers used writing as a platform to cast their ideas into the limelight.

7. The average human being is inherently self centred and indifferent to organisational objectives.
8. The average human being by nature resists change.
9. The average human being is gullible and not very bright.
Theory Y views human beings in optimistic or positive terms. The assumptions of this theory are:
1. The average human being does not inherently dislike work.
2. Employees will exercise self direction and self control if they are committed to objectives.
External control and the threat of punishment are not the only means to make employees to work
towards objectives.
3. Commitment to objectives is a function of the rewards associated with their achievement.
4. The average human being can be motivated by higher level needs i.e. esteem and self
actualisation needs.
5. The average human being learns not only to accept but to seek responsibility.
6. The average human being seeks responsibility because it allows them to satisfy higher level
needs.
7. The capacity to exercise imagination and creativity in the solution of problems is widely spread
throughout the population.
Theory Y suggests or contributes the following thoughts :
(i) Management is responsible for organising the resources of the company to achieve
organisational objectives.
(ii) Employees are not lazy or passive or resistant to organisational objectives.
(iii) Work is natural to employees if managers can release and channel the employees

Negotiation Is Not An Easy Process
Negtiation is a strategic process of reconciling differences in interest and coming to a mutual
resolution through cooperation that is percieved fair for both of involved parties (Fells 2012). The
negotiation that was analysed in the Enterprise Agreement Negotiation Report, demonstrates that
negotiation is not an easy process nor its orderly, since it is the activity and not the segment that
determines the phase of a negotiation. According to Halpert et al. s Path model, negotiation consists
of different phases such as preparation, differentiation, exploration, and exchange. The preparation
phase in our previous negotiation became an essential part that played a role of evaluation of both
parties positions in our successful outcome.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Naturally, the union took the intitiative to develop creative solutions that explored the options in
front of them oppose to taking on a competitive approach that would involve exchange of trade offs
(Fells 2014). An effective negotiator is a strategic negotiator, who is able to switch back and forth
between different phases of a negotiation without losing the goal in mind. An effective negotiator
takes time to process what is happening during the negotiation and ensures that the right problem is
being resolved while taking into consideration other party s intrests to finding a common ground.
Concequently those type of actions facilitate in the process of a negotiation by creating a
cooperative environment and enhance the furture relationship between the parties (Fells 2012;
Sebenius 2001). An effective negotiator aknowledges that no party is the same and as every
negotiation, every negotiator is different from one another. These variations explain the DNA of
negotiation that requires an effective negotiator to take into considerations the strands of the DNA,
such as reciprocity, trust, power, information exchange, ethics, and outcome that vary from person
to person (Fells 2012, pg 8). A negotiation script is a metophorical storyline of a negotiation that

Uloric Case Study Summary
Uloric (Febuxostat) is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor used to control hyperuricemia in patients with
gout. Xanthine oxidase inhibitors inhibit the activity of xanthine oxidase, an enzyme involved in
the metabolism of purines. This medication should not be used for the treatment of asymptomatic
hyperuricemia. Uloric was first FDA approved on February 13th, 2009 for chronic management
of hyperuricemia. Given that this medication is fairly new to the market, it is more expensive
then the other prescription medication in the same pharmaceutical categories, allopurinol. Uloric
comes in two strengths, 40 mg, and 100 mg tablets. Bothe the 40 mg and the 80 mg tablets costs
$310.39 for a 30 day supply (quantity of 30). Allopurinol also comes in 2 strengths, 100 mg, and
300 mg tablets. The cost of 100 allopurinol 100 mg tablets is $37.69 and $76.14 for... Show more

Studies have shown that 80 mg of Uloric was able to get 30% more patients than 300 mg of
allopurinol to a healthy uric acid level ( 6 mg/dL). Even though in the study Uloric seems to be
more effective in managing hyperuricemia, I believe that this is not a fair comparison because 300
mg daily of allopurinol is only given in patients with mild gout. When comparing 40 mg Uloric
with 300 mg allopurinol, the number of patients who reached a healthy uric acid level was
equal. It is shown that patients with mild to moderate kidney problems do not have to take a
lower dose which seems like a major advantage for using Uloric, but in the study only a small
number of patients with severe kidney problems were studied. Patients with kidney problems have
to take a lower dose of allopurinol; the dose of allopurinol is only decreased in patients with a
creatinine clearance (CrCl) of less than 20 mL/minute, which to me seems that the patient is

Aging Population Burdens
A significant population growth occurred between 1946 and 1964; approximately 76 million
people were born in the United States; this group of individuals is known as the Baby boom
generation (Dohm, 2000). These individuals now average between the ages of 51 70, and make
up a vast majority of those in American whom fall in the late adulthood period of their lives.
According to Boyd and Bee (2015, p 418), young old is defined at ages 60 75, old old is 75 85 and
oldest old is 85 and older. In the United States in 2010 there were approximately 40,267,984 adults

Ethical, as defined by Merriam Webster online dictionary (2016), means right or wrong, or
following acceptable rules of behavior. The primary concern for many, who oppose scientific
research such as this, is the notion that the scientists are playing god. In other words, scientists
are messing with the natural process of the world. It could even be argued that if scientists had
left well enough alone, this increase in of individuals in the late adulthood stage of life would
not have occurred; implying that nature or God would have naturally controlled the population.
Others, like myself, might counter that it goes against God to deny the scientific gift of
discovery blessed on some people; that if given the ability to aid people, then it is ones duty to
do just that. Some perhaps, in the middle of the road, could simply question where we drawl the
line? Referring back the definition of ethical (Merriam Webster online dictionary, 2016), this
middle of the road view, may simply propose the question on if this is acceptable behavior, in
other words, what are we willing to do scientifically, for human life. Whether a person is all for
scientific advancement or completely opposed, at the end of the day it is important to ask is this
advancement truly beneficial to society and the people it affects? (van den

An Examination Of President Jimmy Carter s Human Rights...

Carter was Absolute on Human Rights?
An Examination of President Jimmy Carter s Human Rights Policy in Argentina
Introduction:
President Jimmy Carter declared in his inaugural address that the US s commitment towards human
rights must be absolute . Human rights under Carter were anything but absolute. Under his
presidency, the US sent contradictory messages: one opposing human rights violations and another
which seemed to overlook human rights abuses. The issue of human rights was not Carter s only
priority. In reality, human rights ended up being one of many of the Carter administration priorities.
All of these foci collided, and left Carter with no real center to his foreign policy. One of Carter s
first attempts to implement his human rights initiatives was in Argentina. The authoritarian, rightist
Juntas organized a violent repression against political dissidents. Trying to distance himself from
the policies of Ford/Kissinger, Carter attempted to pressure the authoritarian regime to improve their
human rights record via reductions in military aid and economic sanctions. These maneuvers led to
some mild improvements initially, but ultimately came back to hurt the Carter administration after
the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Argentina s decision to align itself with the Soviets rather than
the US on the issue of grain embargoes is an example of the Carter administration s poor foresight.
Carter over compartmentalized his foreign policy agenda and

The Theme of Black Leadership in Invisible Man Essay
Ralph Ellison s interest in effective black leadership is directly reflected in Invisible Man. The
characterization of Bledsoe in the beginning of the story is that of a ruthlessly self serving black
leader (McSweeny). In chapter five, a mythic model for black leadership is outlined in the eulogy
of the founder of the college, which is given by Homer A. Barbee (McSweeny). While Invisible
Man is residing in the apartmentof Mary Rambo, she drills into his head the importance of
leadership and responsibility. In chapter thirteen the anger of the crowd watching the eviction
begins to rise, and as one onlooker observes that All they need is a leader (Ellison 274). These
events lead to Invisible Man s first act of leadership when he... Show more content on

One of the reasons that the idea of joining the Brotherhood is so appealing to him is that it is a
well organized group.
The character of Brother Jack has a very cynical view of black leadership. He believes that leaders
are made, not born, and that they are eventually destroyed by the people who created them
(McSweeny). This view of the nonspontaneous generation of black leaders might, however, be
challenged by the moment in the race riot in chapter 25 when Dupre and Scofield organize their
neighbors and take effective action (McSweeny).
The novel also portrays the extremes of black leadership through the characters of Bledsoe and
Ras. Bledsoe shows the Uncle Tom end of the spectrum. He demeans himself before whites in
public in order to get ahead. Ras exemplifies the other end of the spectrum. He is a militant
separatist who resents any blacks that associate with whites.
The failure of these two extreme forms of leadership are responsible for the death of Tod Clifton
(mainly Ras s form). In the novel, Clifton represents the potential of Black America (McSweeny).
His faithful commitment to the brotherhood is weakened by the plea of Ras to think black and to
use his black intelligence. Clifton eventually leaves the Brotherhood because after listening to Ras
he realizes that they are using him for nothing more than for the

Summary Of The Conquest Of Hawaii
After reading the article, The Conquest of Hawaii, my understanding of how Hawaii became a part
of the United States has changed drastically. Originally, I had thought that Hawaii was conquered
by the Europeans with reckless violence and torture towards the Hawaiians like how the Europeans
conquered the Native American s land. I also had thought that the modern Hawaiian attitudes
towards becoming U.S. citizens were narrow minded and hard headed because it was their land that
the Europeans were taking away. After reading the article, I learned that Hawaiiwasn t automatically
conquered, but violence did occur and the Hawaiian s attitude towards annexation was supportive.
According to the article, the conquest of the Hawaii started when a group... Show more content on

As a result, thousands of commoners arrived Hawaii to cut and haul sandalwood to the beaches.
Food production suffered and starvation left many Natives in violent deaths. By 1843, whalers
arrived Hawaii about the same time as the missioners did and by that time whaling became common
in Hawaii. While Hawaiian merchants and chiefs got richer from the whaling industry, most Native
Hawaiians suffered greatly. Hawaiians were excellent merchants, and young men were hired as
sailors. Large numbers of native sailors on their journey did not return. Prostitution flourished, and
native women were left barren by the very diseases spread by others. In 1778, when Cook arrived
the Islands, the native population decreased to 200,000 and 300,000. In the 1830s, the sugar
industry was introduced to Hawaii and by the mid 19th century, the production of sugar flourished

economic, and religious life, and in 1840 a constitutional monarchy was established, stripping the

content is controlled by gatekeepers in all three phases of production. Gatekeepers are those
individuals who are able to control the content of material that appears in the sitcom. Production

starts in pre production.
Pre production starts many months before any studio set is built, or actors are hired. The first

As the cast assembles for the first read through the script, the producer listens to the dialog and
makes decisions to remove or change parts of the script. He or she also has the authority to
decide wardrobes and set props that will create a certain perception on the show. The same
dialog for a scene can be filmed on a bus station set or a living room set to create very different
perceptions of either public humility or a personal family moment. After filming, the show
moves in to post production. Post production involves taking all of the short segments of the
show and editing them to suite the original script. Here, the line producer and editor are
gatekeepers. The line producer is a producer assigned to a specific episode of a sitcom. Their job
is to ensure continuity of the episode from pre production through to final cut. Even with all the
planning involved in production, several different camera angles, set props, dialog changes are
made on the set during the filming. The line producer and editor have the power to pick and
choose which elements will make the final story line which may or may not fit exactly with the
executive producers original vision. Finally, the network production company that airs the show
acts as a gatekeeper again. They reserve the right to not air the show if it is deemed too
controversial. An example of this occurred shortly after September 11, 2001. Networks chose not

The Importance Of Public Open Space In Public Health
Public open space (POS) plays a significant role in maintaining public health. It has been positively
connected with the improvement of residents physical health due to the opportunities provided for
physical activities, which reduce the risk of a wide range of common disease that threaten people s
life.
With a population of 4 million, Jeddah is Saudi Arabia s second largest city. Due to its rapid
population growth, alarming public health issues and natural disaster such as flooding, public
open space in Jeddah has become an important issue. The provision of current POS in Jeddah is
minimal and is not adequate to serve the needs of those 4 million people of the city. It also does not
affect any environmental urban services to encourage walking or physical health,
The paper will give a scope in depth to urban design strategies and its influences in public open
space to promote the urban health of a rapidly growing Saudi Arabia city.
It has been argued that open space plays a significant role in maintaining public health by acting as
a green lung in urban environments (Cranz 1982; Woolley 2003). In United States, in the latter
half of the 19th century, elements of open space such as levelled walkways and pleasant view
were used as adjuncts in the treatment of patients with tuberculosis ( McBride 1998). The US

Madame Bovary and Death in Venice are two intriguing books that do not seem to have much in
common at first. When analyzing the stories more in depth though, it becomes apparent that there
is a common link that is shared in regards to the relationships of the characters. Romance is a
significant part of both books, but the romance that occurs is superficial despite the characters
attempted portrayal of it as deep and meaningful. Madame Bovaryand Death in Venice are

life. Don t be trapped by dogma which is living with the results of other people s thinking. Don t
let the noise of other s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the
courage to follow your heart and intuition... ( You ve Got to Find What You Love ). Job explains
to the Graduates of the Stanford Class of 2005, that in order to be successful one must assert their
unique personality, one must stand up for what they believe in, and one must create their own
perspective of the world. In life, a choice has to be made, to take a stand for what you think is
right, or sit passively and listen as peers debate, Job recommending the former. Emily Dickinsonand
Walt Whitmanagree that living life in a passive manner is not acceptable. The standard of asserting
oneself is seen through Walt Whitman s poem, To a Pupil, in Paul Schutze s photograph Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr., as well as in biographical information about Dickinson and Whitman;
however, Dickinson claims in her poem, I m Nobody! Who are you? that on occasions, it is okay
to stay out of the spotlight.

The Effects Of Malaria On The World s Poorest
CUNY Nobel Science Challenge Around 300 600 million people suffer from malaria each year,
and over one million people die from this disease every year, mostly children younger than five.
This disease is endemic to over 100 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and
the South Pacific, almost 40% of the world population. Malariais caused by a parasite that is
transferred by the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito. The most deadly form of
malaria is known as Plasmodium falciparum because almost all deaths from malaria are caused
by this specific one. In addition to being the deadliest form of malaria, Plasmodium falciparum
destroys red blood cells along with causing complications with the kidneys, lungs, and brain. In
more serious cases, it can cause permanent neurological effects and even death. As the Nobel
Assembly said at the announcement of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Diseases
caused by parasites have plagued humankind for a millennium and constitute a major global health
problem. In particular, parasitic diseases affect the world s poorest populations and represent a
huge barrier to improving human health and wellbeing . Youyou Tu, one of the winners of the

The Article By Letting Clare
Amy Trauber introduces the article by letting Clare, one of the subjects in her research tell her
first hand account of her daily routine as a sustainable farmer in Central Pennsylvania, and the
challenges she faces in a male dominated work space. Clare says I get up early, eat breakfast and
start picking blueberries for market at six o clock. After picking for a couple of hours, I wash, sort
and package blueberries to sell at the farmer s market in town. After selling all day, I might work
a few hours at my off farm job since I am there. On my way home, I stop at the top of the
mountain and sell more blueberries out of the back of my car. I feed the lambs, horses, rabbit and
dogs. After dinner I supervise people who come to our house to pick blueberries until dark
(Trauger, 2004, p. 289).
The author proceeds to tell a story using Clare as the central character to introduce the overall
topic of her research. She describes Claire as the well known blueberry lady who is recognized for
the high quality produce that she and her husband grow on their sustainable farm, and she
highlights the fact that Claire readily identifies herself as a farmer, versus the more traditional role
of farmer s wife making a point that this is a very important distinction. She summarizes Claire s
argument that in a more productivist, or conventional model of agriculture she would not be
recognized as a farmer (Trauger, 2004), thus underlining how sustainable agricultureprovides a

her death in 1935, Jane Addams built her reputation as the country s most prominent women
through her writings, settlement work and international efforts for world peace. In 1931, she became
the first women to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
Addams, whose father was an Illinois state senator and friend of Abraham Lincoln, graduated in
1881 from Rockford College (then called Rockford Women s Seminary). She returned the
following year to receive one of the school s first bachelor s degrees. With limited career ... Show

Many reformers at this time such as Jacob Riis focused on the poor and immigrants moral
improvements and ignored the crippling impact of low wages and dangerous working conditions.
Organizations expelled immigrants from drinking and other forbidden behaviors such as
prostitution and gambling. What these reformers didn t understand was that the conditions that
immigrants faced, led them to act these ways. Jane Addams realized this. Addams developed a new
weapon against poverty: the settlement houses.
Addams toured in Europe in 1883 and was impressed by Toynbee Hall, which was a charity
workers residence situated deep in a London slum. When Addams returned to Chicago in 1889, they
purchased and refurnished Charles J. Hull s mansion and opened the Hull House, in a settlement
approach.
In 1892, Addams delivered a speech in a lecture to the Ethnic Cultural Societies about the settlement
housing. These societies probably had political connections to human rights issues. The speech is
called The Subjective Necessity for Social Settlements, and its main points were to give the
immigrants and underprivileged the same opportunities as the rest of the population. Addams states,
This paper is an attempt to.... analyze the motives which underlie a movement based not only upon
conviction, but genuine emotion .(Addams,1910) She does not aid the poor and foreign born
because it is right or wrong, but because they are humans just like herself. In The Subjective

Belonging In Brene Brown s TED Talk
Don t you ever feel the urge to run away? Tired of all the problems you have to face? Tired of
disappointing everyone because you feel like you aren t living up to their expectations? Tired of
being whom you are as a person? So tired that you simply don t just want to run away, but also
disappear? In some point in our lives, we go through this and hit rock bottom. We feel as if our
family and friends will be better off without us and they perhaps wouldn t even miss you. But let
me ask you this if you don t like something about yourself then why not change? One gloomy day
I was on my newsfeed on Instagram, giggling at some memes to drooling on some photos of
Jensen Ackles, until something caught my attention. I clicked on the photo and the first thing I

Before I thought to kill off my vulnerability was the best for me. When we look up the definition
for vulnerable it says, Open to moral attack, criticism, temptation. But as Brene Brown said in
her TED talk: The power of vulnerability, vulnerability is also the birthplace of joy, of creativity,
of belonging, of love. Back then, I thought being emotionless was better than being a bitter child.
The things that would make me feel bitter or hurt my feelings would no longer have an affect
one me. Here s the thing, though, if I were to take my vulnerability away, I would also be taking
away all my emotions from sadness to happiness to gratitude. I would go back to looking for a
purpose in my life. I still struggle embracing my vulnerable side, but I know its part of life and
what makes us human beings. What once might have hurt me is now merely nothing, but a pebble.
I get to decide whether it s worth to agonize about it. Our vulnerability is something that makes us
beautiful so I welcome it with a

How Academic Pressures Can Be Detrimental For...
As Pre service teachers, we agreed that our inquiry should emphasise both formal and informal
learning, and how academic pressures can be detrimental for socioemotional wellbeing. Our
current philosophical question was not our original question (APPENDIX A), as we realised that
our original question was excessively complex and broad. By utilising and reworking various
elements of our original question, we formed our current philosophical question: Does our current
educational system value academic skills and dispositions at the expense of socioemotional
wellbeing? We discussed what we as individuals believe the Purpose of Educationencompasses.
There was a general consensus that education needs to include elements of academia, however,
some members saw the value of an informal education with a basis of social interaction. In depth
dialogue and Socratic questioning, lead us to the notions of informal and formal education, where
everyone drew upon their prior experiences. Later, we built upon our understanding, concluding that
an efficacious education needs to be both formally and informally situated. We decided to focus on
the Humanist and Constructivist Theorists: Confucius, John Dewey, Paulo Freire, Henry Girouxand
Maria Montessori (Lewis, 2012). Our question is philosophical, because it can be supported by
empirical evidence, it is broad, it is subject to differing opinions, and it promotes Socratic
questioning and further discussion. This philosophical question is

The Truth Behind Honor By Marguerite De Navarre
The Truth Behind Honor Honor is a concept that has a great deal to do with entitlement and
based on the actions or qualities of a person. There are three main types of honor that society
recognizes; family, men, and women and in The Heptameron, Marguerite de Navarre portrays
each of the three types of honor throughout her stories. However, there are often a number of
complications that follow honor that lie with classified and understandably honorable deeds or
traits, and who is it that determines this. Another issue that one may find is that it is also
complicated to be able to view one form of honor in the presence of another due to certain views
clashing with one another. In addition to this, Marguerite de Navarre s stories are... Show more

In the past, it was even more so an issue than it is now, creating little freedom for women. Men
held the power in this instance, and believed that they were more worthy of an integral status than
women were. In The Heptameron, Marguerite de Navarre introduces the reader to the Duke of
Medici, married to Madame Marguerite who had been too young to consummate the marriage. As
a result, he had a great deal of love affairs with the women in town. Eventually this lead to him
developing feelings for one of the virtuous women who had been the sister of the man the Duke
considered his other half . The Duke then goes on to say So be it then! [...] Since you are not my
friend, I know what I have to do! (159) Occurring after his friend refused to send word to his
sister of the Duke s request, he responded in the typical manner that he was known for
ruthlessness. At this point, he believed that due to his social standing, it was only right that the
sister of the man he had been quite close with were to be his current love affair. His honor lies
with the accepting of his offer without it, he would take her by force. This relates back to
manliness and honor coexisting. Obtaining a women s virtue is a sign of manliness, no matter the
generation, and it is because of this that the Duke believes this virtuous women must sleep with
him. If a woman were to refuse, as the sister did in this tale, the man would turn to

Rising Sea Levels
Global warming has become a very big problem in our world today. It has created everything
from bad air quality to water pollution in our world. These are just some of the consequences of
global warming. However, I would like to speak on one topic as it regards to global warming.
We have now discovered that global warming is causing our polar ice caps to melt thus creating
rising sea levels. This has become a very large topic, and many scientists are scrambling to find
solutions to stop this problem. If the rising sea level isn t fixed we will see a massive amount of
damage caused to our coasts, and coasts around the world for that matter. The consequences
would also be dire for my home state of Florida. Florida is susceptible to rising sea levels because
so much of the land is barely above sea level. The consequences in Florida would be detrimental.
Consequences of rising sea levels could affect our economy, human quality of life, and the
environment. This issue hasn t caused too much damage on the state of Florida s environment yet.
However, the projected amount of damage that it ll do to the environment is absolutely devastating.
The rise in sea levels would destroy anything, and everything in it s path. This includes estuaries
that are natural in nature, but have many benefits to humans and wildlife alike. The rise in sea level
would sink these estuaries and would leave Florida vulnerable to different threats. One of these
threats would be the concern of hurricanes. The

Essay The Insufficiency of Honesty
Stephen L. Carter links integrity and honesty. There are three constraints discussed in this essay.
First, integrity does require a degree of moral reflectiveness. Second, Integrity may cause conflict
that is must be resolved. It does not necessarily produce or protect interpersonal harmony. Third, a
person who has integrity can be trusted. It does not avoid the restructuring of social structures and
associations, because it leaves the matter to exercise of interpersonal authority.
He states that one cannot have integrity without being honest but one can certainly be honest yet
have little integrity. He also states that honesty can actually be used quite selfishly. In fact, there are
key differences between honesty and integrity:
Honesty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, a manager was taught his whole life that women aren t as smart as men. So he gives
his female employees tasks that he believes they ll be more apt to apply themselves. Although he s
being true to his beliefs, he fails to take responsibility as an equitable manager and as a
representative of his company. He is not a person of integrity although he is honest.
Honesty without integrity can also lead to moral disasters. Well, honesty may be important but not
sufficient for integrity. Integrity is both essential and significant. It is acceptable and one will agree
with what Stephen L. Carter says about a person having honesty but not integrity. There are also
some white lies present. Sometimes saying the truth or telling everything you know might hurt
somebody. Harm may not be the intention but positively the effect.
Carter also speaks of an American Core that has six values necessary for good character:
Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, caring, fairness, and citizenship. He believes that honesty
is honored too highly which allows one to escape from responsibilities. Integrity does not permit
easy escape. In Conclusion, absolving one s self can be done out of self interest. It could be just a
matter of choice that the awareness of dishonesty and honesty both tie into integrity depending
upon individual interpretations. We can agree that

Comfort Women Issue
The comfort women issue has been an ongoing dispute for more than seventy years now. The
role of comfort women in WWII was to raise the morale of soldiers by providing services. It is
estimated that less than a quarter of the comfort women survived the ordeal, however the exact
number is not recorded. Since then, Japan has decided to remain silent in order to avoid any
conflicts or issues. The comfort womenissue didn t become acknowledged until the 1990s when
comfort women started to testify in court. There are now people who are rising to conclude the
comfort women issue, and making the issue public. People are now demanding that Japan
apologizes for what they have done and request compensation to the victims. To this day, Japan still
refuses... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, denialists today still refuse to accept the testimonies of comfort women victims. The
entire issue is confusing, because of all of the conflicting opinions and sides. The Japanese
government claims that they have formally apologized for what they have done in the past. On
the website for the Japanese government, they claim that they have made amends by giving
money to all of the victims. They also claim to have donated money to organizations that assist
comfort women. The one thing that doesn t make sense, is that they say that they are teaching
about comfort women in schools. If the government is really for teaching about comfort women,
then why are people still denying that the comfort women issue is real? The testimonies of the
comfort women are very important to the issue, because it gives both sides information to work
with. The testimonies are necessary evidence due to the lack of official information provided by
the Japanese government. The government destroyed a lot of documents of WWII, so some
information on the comfort women is lost. It is unsure if the information has been lost or if they
are just being concealed. There is a lot of proof that points towards the idea that the Japanese
government is at fault. There is enough evidence and information provided by both sides, so why
is the issue still

Justice And Injustice As Depicted In Plato s Republic
There are those among you who would say that I am nothing more than an old woman who has
no understanding of the law and therefore justice. However, how many of you that would look
away from the injustice we daily serve, can also say with truth that there is not a secret place in
your hearts where you know I am right. Fear of reprisal, the absence of conviction, and reliance
on continued failed representation does not show clarity of thought. The inability to recognize or
acknowledge that the Republic is in crisis shows only an allegiance to those who have placed us
here with their selfish preponderance of autocratic government. Let us now stand together as one

Did we as a people learn nothing through generations of slave revolts? Did we not hear the cries
of those who were born free only to suffer the oppression of a conquered collective? We watched
as the Provincials themselves rose against Rome, but generations did nothing and as a collective
we allowed our voices to remain silent or only whispered in support. The now silent voices of free
people from Hellenistic states who died slaves cry out. Those who died slaves in Sicily even after
the Senate passed their decree giving freedom to slaves who are allies to Rome cry out. The
voices of those who cried out during the Social War now demand to be heard as equals and again
cry out. Let us now look historically to Plato and currently to Cicero who has given us outlines of
equality among all people which we should follow. Let the natural law guide us before the self
interest of individuals destroys us. Let us not fall to tyrants who would have us believe that law
created by tyrants serves the masses. If a law cannot be applied equally to all among us, then that
law cannot be allowed to stand for all of us. Similarly, a law that protects a few cannot also
protect all that are part of us. Let us as a people embrace the notion that the natural law is a law
that dictates

Oil Sand Industry Analysis
Almost every Canadian residing within this province could visibly see the relationship between
our economy and the energy industry, specifically the oil sands. The growth of this province is
mainly correlated with the development that we have seen with the Alberta oil sand operations.
As the oil prices rise during the bull cycle, the province becomes prosperous, providing jobs,
opportunities, and funding for a variety of social programs. However, as the oil prices tumble
during the bust cycle, we start to see how intertwined our economy really is with the energy
industry. The oil sandsis an economic driver that not only provides direct jobs for many, but in
addition provides many indirect jobs as well. Revenue from the sale of oil has assisted in the
development and continued funding for many infrastructure projects and social programs not only
for the province of Alberta, but for the rest of the Canadian provinces as well. Simply stated, we
are largely dependent on the oil sands to drive our local economy.... Show more content on

many large issues that plague our oil sands industry. We essentially place our blind faith in the oil
companies that reside within our province to reduce and possibly eliminate the impact that the oil
sands have on the

Themes In The Golden Girls
The Golden Girls is an iconic television show set in 1980 s Miami that not only provides insight
to aging in America through humor, but sometimes lectures the viewer on social topics with an
obvious liberal agenda. Even though I have probably viewed every episode hundreds of times
over the past thirty years, I still find myself eager to watch it every night at bedtime to end the
stresses of the day on a happy note. I do not always agree with the opinions expressed by the
characters or the outcome of a particular episode. However, I still come back for more each night
because most episodes end on a happy note, and that allows me to drift into sleep with a little
less stress on my mind. For seven seasons, . . . the series won several awards during its run,
including 11 Emmys and four Golden Globes (MTSU). The creator of the show, Susan Harris,
also created the 1970 s show called Soap. Both shows were produced by Paul Junger Witt and
Tony Thomas (Golden Girls: Miami Spice). While I was very young during Soap s run on
television, I have seen reruns of it a few times. It most definitely has liberal agenda themes that are
presented with humor like The Golden Girls. However, it was presented in poor taste in its acting
and storylines to present a message that could have been construed as offensive to much of the
audience back in the 1970 s. It is very rare to talk to someone today that has even heard of Soap
and it certainly has not reached cult like status

john adams revolution Essay
john adams revolution John Adams explains how the revolution began when he says, The
Revolution was effected before the war commenced (37 38). The Revolution was in the minds

to come to the New World (25). The duelfor America created a restlessness among the independent
minded Americans. However, mother England saw the necessity of holding her colonies.
Eventually, tension is felt between the two sides, resulting in colonial unity and the sovereignty of
a new republic. There were many causes and effects of the American

For many reasons, tension grew in the relationship between Britain and America.
Tensions first arose when the London government issued the Proclamation of 1763. This
proclamation prohibited settlement in the area beyond the Appalachians, by the colonies.
This angered many Americans because they felt that the land was their birthright, but this document
was not drawn up to oppress the colonies, but it was made to work out the
Indian problem to prevent another uprising like Pontiac s. Mercantilism also added to the tension
between Britain and America. Tension arose from mercantilism because
Americans were not at liberty to buy, sell, ship or manufacture under conditions that they found
most profit. The Boston Gazette explained how the colonists felt about mercantilism by stating, A
colonist cannot make a button, a horseshoe, nor a hobnail, but some snotty ironmonger of Britain
shall bawl and squall that his honor s worship is most egregiously maltreated, injured, cheated, and
robbed by the rascally American republics, proving that the colonists were very upset about
England s new laws of mercantilism (22 23). Also, many Virginian planters were plunged into a
dept by the falling price of tobacco, and were forced to buy their necessities in England, by
mortgaging future crops. Mercantilism also showed favoritism for the southern colonies over the
northern colonies,

  • 2. The Apostle Paul s Influence On Christianity Chase Bryer As Christianity developed in the Roman Empire in first centuries A.D., its adherents were persecuted as a minority religion known for its distinct sexual ethic. The emergence of Christianity initiated an entirely new phase in the history of sexuality and challenged the societal customs of the ancient Roman world. Through the primary influences of the Christian practice of self control and the Apostle Paul s distinct radical sexual ideology in a time of rampant sexual exploitation, early Christian attitudes toward sexual morality were formed and continue to withstand society s most basic shared ideas. During the transformation in Rome from a predominately polytheistic culture to one of Christianity in the wake of an Ancient patriarchal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Christians, the physical body lay at the heart of what it meant to be a free person destined for communion with God. In contrast to Gnosticism, The Apostle Paul exclaims, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified (1 Cor. 9:27). The Apostle Paul also stated that it is better to marry than to burn with desire, conceding that others may feel the need for sexual release. However, there is some discussion about the word burn, and whether it relates to sexual desire or to eternal damnation for those who practice sex outside the bonds of matrimony. For followers of Christ, the physical body was regarded as a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit, and adherents were tasked with glorifying God [with their] body (1 Cor. 6:19). Christians were commanded not to escape their earthly bodies and be merely passers by, as Gnostics suggested, but instead, to present [their] bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this [was their] spiritual worship (Romans 12:1 2). Thus, the body is an essential symbol of Christianity. There are various other disputes among the Gnostics and the Christians regarding the nature of humans and fleshy ... • 4. Media Impact On Teenagers The Media and Body Image of Teenagers What s on the outside doesn t matter, its what s on the inside that matters . We hear sayings such as this all the time, yet we live in a society that contradicts this idea constantly. There is no doubt that due to media, the way teens see themselves has changed. The media is setting unrealistic beauty standards, which influences everyone, and this is having a detrimental affect on adolescents. The impact of media on teenagers is appalling. These beauty standards are negatively affecting teenage girls as well as teenage boys, and due to the prominence of this issue, several efforts are being made to combat this. Firstly, the media has greatly affected the way teenage girls now look at themselves and specifically at their bodies. This is encouraged by the ideal body image that is created by the media. For some reason, the ideal image is portrayed as a skinny, tall, size 2 model with perfect skin. And if you don t have that, there s hope yet because having an hourglass body is equally appreciated. These are not realistic images as no more than 15% of women actually look like this. Then there is the concept of fat versus thick. This is the idea that having extra fat below your waist is known as thick but having extra fat above your waist is considered fat . In today s media being thick is a compliment yet no one wants to be fat. Many people don t understand how real this problem actually is. In fact, celebrities such as Emma Watson have talked about how they continuously feel pressured by the media to look a certain way and she says that when she didn t meet those expectations, she would fall into anxiety. She says, If that s how I feel and I get to be the person who s on the cover of those magazines how s anyone else meant to cope? This is proof that the ideal body image is not realistic, even for celebrities, and due to this, it is almost impossible for fashion companies to find models that fit this standard. So, many labels and companies have resorted to using a process called airbrushing. This involves retouching photos to remove what the media refers to as flaws and it can also be used to change or enhance the image. These transforms photos using programs ... • 5. Legal Developments in Western Civilization Legal Developments in Western Civilization The span of Western Civilization encompasses many notable achievements in legal development. As empires rise and expand, it becomes necessary to create a legal code that standardizes punishment, institutes a form of common law, and protects society from arbitrary abuses of power. These principles were formally established relatively early in the western world, and became the foundations upon which later government institutions created their legal systems. The Code of Hammurabi, the Twelve Tables, and Magna Carta, all represent key moments in the evolution of legal thought and practice. Not only do they show the legal and political direction of the empires, but also the progression of their social values The Babylonian empire s success was due in large part to its powerful sixth king, Hammurabi who reigned from 1792 1750 B.C.E. At the age of twenty five he succeeded to the throne and devoted the first thirty years of his reign to wars of conquest. His military success meant that his empire now possessed a diverse population that was difficult to placate. To aid in unifying the empire and making punishments standard and universal, he issued the Code of Hammurabi. In three hundred clauses, Hammurabi established the rudiments of common law. Though not a set of statutes to be cited, it did provide judges with examples of past decisions handed down for various disputes. His concept of justice was reflected in the biblical ... • 6. The Importance Of Clock Reaction A clock reaction is where the fusion of various reagents, with relation to time, cause a colour change in the solution. The end of the reaction rate is measured by the increase in the rate of concentration. There are two factors which contribute to the rate of the reaction, induction and inhibition. Induction is where the production rate of the clock chemical increases as the increases as the concentration of the solution increases. Whereas, Inhibition is where the chemical reacts with the clock chemical, increasing the concentration. The increase in the rate can only occur if all of the inhibitor chemical is consumed within the reaction (S.J Preece, 1999). Some examples of clock reactions are the arsenic (III) sulfide clock reaction, and Landolt iodine clock oxidation of bisulphite by iodate. This specific reaction is stated to be one of the most favourable clock reactions, showing a deep blue colour within a matter of seconds. This specific reaction involves two colourless solutions that mix together after a certain amount of time it yields a blue colour change. The chemical equilibrium is a formula used to describe the rate in reverse reactions. Chemical Equilibria: Rate = k [A]^p [B]^q The rate law will also be used to analyse the concentrations, and to determine whether the reaction is zero order, first order or a second order reaction. Secondary data obtained from another investigation was rate = k[IO3] 1 (Lyle, Department of Chemistry). A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay about apeuro dbq on the poor The Europeans between the 1450 s and 1700 s held many negative attitudes towards the poor themselves and the idlers who they believed were a menace to society. Also during this time period the Europeans had many responses like in England where they put them in poorhouses or tried to heal them or in others places where they tried to give them alms. During this time period many Europeans held negative attitudes toward helping the poor due to the idle and lazy who go around begging as if they are poor. Emperor Charles V in a royal decree wrote how indiscriminately giving alms will result in idleness which is the root of all evils (Document 4). Many European felt that idlers were mooching off them and taking away alms from the poor who actually couldn t get jobs due to illness causing a distaste of them by the Europeans. Even though many Europeans saw only the idlers as the problems, many others had negative attitudes to all poor people. Juan Luis Vives who was a Spanish humanist wrote in, On Assistance to the Poor, that when a family becomes poor that the men begin to steal, the women become prostitutes, and their children grow up and become accustomed to this lifestyle while those with money believe the poor to not deserve their alms (Document 3). The POV of Vives is that of a humanist who feels they know the deeper meaning of all human, and he sees them as deplorable creatures who when pushed against a wall become thieving animals while those with money don t even try to better these poor peoples lives by thinking that the poor don t deserve their charity. Jean Maillefer, a wealthy French merchant, wrote to his children that the poor have grown accustom to being poor and they cannot leave due to them having no cares, bills, and fears while they feel great independence (Document 11). Maillefer s POV is that the poor have no worries and are independent because they have no job which comes from him hearing them talk about and also from how he works long and hard every day while fearing that he has to pay rent and taxes ... • 8. Heroine Complex Essay I just realized I ve never rated Heroine Complex upon reading it last year. I m completely blown away by this book. In our age where superhero is the new pop culture, it s quite difficult to find a series featuring women of color as the center of heroic resistance. There s a few representations for POC in comics and other medium content but that s only a scrap if we re going to compare it on how white peopledominate every single genre. This is why Heroine Complex is equally refreshing. It frames a different kind of norm in superherouniverse while simultaneously providing an entertaining, swoony story. The book follows Evie Tanaka, the best friend and assistant of San Francisco s most reveled superheroine Aveda Jupiter. Their usual dynamic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dynamics between characters are one of my favorite kinks while reading, it s not a surprise I will focus on that element! Props to Kuhn because this book focuses on a heroine who s usually the sidekick. Evie doesn t have a flair for dramatics, she s level headed, passionate, and reliable. She s been the assistant of Aveda since her best friend donned her costume. Unfortunately, their friendship isn t all sunshine and rainbows. Her boss is demanding, manipulative, and so self consumed. There s power imbalance between them, and Aveda just knows what the right words to say to Evie to make her do something. She sounds so awful, that s because she is. The narrative didn t excuse how she s been unappreciative. Instead, there s emphasis on repairing the friendship between them and there s self love and healing. My frigid heart couldn t help but to be swayed with Aveda s arc. Everyone seems to love her, but nobody really knows the true her. She s hardworking, she has visions for herself. She s not naturally born with talents (whatever that means,) she has to work hard for it. The tragedy someone can do it better than her. On the outside, she seems to have everything, she s untouchable; but truly she s just another girl who s are still stuck by her insecurities and inadequacies. • 9. The First Year Writing Program Throughout the semester, the first year writing program gave students the privilege to become improved writers. Students received the opportunity to identify their strengths and weaknesses and come to a conclusion on what makes favorable writing. While writing the assigned essays this semester, I realized being able to read and write about something that is relatable is extremely critical. When an individual can relate to what they are reading, they will be more engaged compared to reading a piece that fails to connect to them. Although the first year writingprogram succeeded in building up betterwriters, there is always room for improvement. The program could consider new pieces of work and content that is recent that students can form an opinion on and relate to. While writing, individuals should always keep in mind, honesty, personal experience, and sending a message. Incorporating these values into a paper results in a piece of writing that is relatable and clear to understand. Personal experience and examples provide a reasonable amount of evidence for a reader. This will show that the topic being written about can happen and impact any individual. Also, honesty is crucial when wanting to make a point about the topic being written about. Writing that sends a message is essential due to the fact that the reader can identify that the author is writing for a purpose and wants the reader to take away a lesson or idea from reading that piece. Incidentally, my goals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the 1980 s and 90 s, QuГ©bec sovereignty left the country divided, and the 1995 referendum showed how QuГ©bec and Canada had a tumultuous relationship. All of Canada was affected, but this debate targeted mostly English Canadians and French Canadians. The lack of unity between both cultures resulted in the Quiet Revolution in 1960 s, which was the starting point for the sovereignty movement. Some people held responsible were President Hoover, brokers, bankers, and businessmen. The cause of the depression cannot be linked to one individual or even a group of people. It is also unlikely that the crash of the market would have been large enough to lead the US economy into the depression and to sustain the downward spiral in business activity. (1929В…) Why People Invested in the Stock Market During 1929, people invested in the stock market for 5 major reasons. The first was that the market was considered an easy way to get rich, quick. Although, about 4 million Americans, a small amount, invested in the stock market at one time. The constant influx of new investors coming in and old investors moving out ensured that new money was always flowing around. (1929В…) Another reason was higher wages. This meant that everyone in America had extra money to put into savings or invest in the market. The 3rd reason was that at this time, money was made more readily available, from banks, at a lower interest rate to more people. • 12. The Capture Rate Of Pokemon The Capture Rate of PokГ©mon in the First Generation Name: Swikriti Dasgupta Teacher: Mr. Hardman Period: 6 Introduction: In 1996, the video game company Nintendo, released a game that revolutionized gaming. They came up with the video game PokГ©mon . Although I am a girl, I consider myself a gamer at heart. This game is something that is very dear to me because this game established a strong relationship between my sister and I. I have always been inquisitive in nature therefore I always wondered if I could relate my hobby of gaming to math. Although math is a struggle for me, I have decided to step out of my comfort and explore the first game I played in my life and investigate the use of math in the capture rate of the pokemons. This was a simple 2 D, 64 bit game that involved the players moving a character in a fictional world, capturing balls and going on adventures. Players would have to solve difficult puzzles and train their own PokГ©mon in order to progress through the game. They do this by meeting progressively stronger computer controlled trainers along the way and battling with their PokГ©mon. The player s PokГ©mon gain experience through defeating the opponent. The players can also capture new ones as well. Generally, as the player progresses, stronger PokГ©mon appear, and the players have a chance to capture them. They do this by throwing a tennis sized ball that will transport the entire PokГ©mon into the ball that they threw with. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today, there are new temptations, and functions that were nonexistent three decades ago. Such as the advancements in technology, and communication, an unfair economy that bounces up and down, and lastly, a government that plays a major role in the daily lives of Americans. With this, I will create a utopia, that cancels out the negatives of these changes. In the past decade, technology has drastically changed our daily lives. We are now able to communicate with one another, regardless of the physical boundaries that surround us. However, these advancements in technology, have caused new issues that did not previously exists. In my utopia, I would not ban the usage of technology, but I would regulate how is it used. Today, there is Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat etc. These apps dominate the minds of daily Americans. With these apps, people can communicate with one another, without directly pointing out a specific person. This could be used as a positive tool but, in most cases it is used negatively. Such as, to bully or tear down others. For example, on Instagram the pictures that get the most likes, are the ones who compare people to one another. The caption is usually, Me VS you . Social media has created a perfect platform of falsity. To correct this false hood, and forms of bullying, my utopia would create new apps, that strictly regulate what is being posted. Technology would be used in its greatest, positive potential. Efficient communication with others, would be its one and only offer. Citizens would still be able to post, and access apps created for my utopia. Their time spent on the internet though, would be limited per day. This would be to ensure face to face social skills, that would be required in my utopia. Today s economy has re established the modern day classes. The culture also determines how the minority culture will be treated and how the two groups will be classified. Often, differentiation of groups is determined by race, rather than things like religion or class. Throughout literary history, authors have endeavored to capture the past as well as recreate and articulate sociological inequalities within that past. Issues of race, being one of the primary examples of social inequality, often appear in controversial and important works of literature. In the Caribbean Sea, people have had to deal with centuries of racial prejudices and sociological inequity, since the first explorers arrived on the island and demanded that those with darker skins become the slaves of those with light skin. Three particular works of literature, Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, The Kingdom of This World by Alejo Carpenter, and The Farming of Bones by author Edwidge Danticat have recreated the historical scenarios of life in the Caribbean during the time of oppression of the native peoples by white Europeans and shows just how disturbing and destructive attitudes of superiority and inferiority regarding racial differences can truly be. Colonial American literature was written by American authors who were experiencing something completely new and different to them. They had never been colonists or traitors to their mother country, Great Britain, before and this showed in their literature. One prominent theme throughout Colonial literature is the importance of God. Puritanauthor, Anne Bradstreet, made this apparent in her poem, The Burning of Our House. Instead of feeling the emotions of anger and sadness due to the fact all of her belongings were destroyed, she looked at the fire as a sign from God that he was taking his possessions that were rightfully his. An Examination of President Jimmy Carter s Human Rights Policy in Argentina Introduction: President Jimmy Carter declared in his inaugural address that the US s commitment towards human rights must be absolute . Human rights under Carter were anything but absolute. Under his presidency, the US sent contradictory messages: one opposing human rights violations and another which seemed to overlook human rights abuses. The issue of human rights was not Carter s only priority. In reality, human rights ended up being one of many of the Carter administration priorities. All of these foci collided, and left Carter with no real center to his foreign policy. One of Carter s first attempts to implement his human rights initiatives was in Argentina. The authoritarian, rightist Juntas organized a violent repression against political dissidents. Trying to distance himself from the policies of Ford/Kissinger, Carter attempted to pressure the authoritarian regime to improve their human rights record via reductions in military aid and economic sanctions. These maneuvers led to some mild improvements initially, but ultimately came back to hurt the Carter administration after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Argentina s decision to align itself with the Soviets rather than the US on the issue of grain embargoes is an example of the Carter administration s poor foresight. This view of the nonspontaneous generation of black leaders might, however, be challenged by the moment in the race riot in chapter 25 when Dupre and Scofield organize their neighbors and take effective action (McSweeny). The novel also portrays the extremes of black leadership through the characters of Bledsoe and Ras. Bledsoe shows the Uncle Tom end of the spectrum. He demeans himself before whites in public in order to get ahead. Ras exemplifies the other end of the spectrum. He is a militant separatist who resents any blacks that associate with whites. When analyzing the stories more in depth though, it becomes apparent that there is a common link that is shared in regards to the relationships of the characters. Romance is a significant part of both books, but the romance that occurs is superficial despite the characters attempted portrayal of it as deep and meaningful. Sara does not have much interest in finding a husband, but for a time she flocks over a man named Hugo Seelig. The love that Sara finds in him though is superficial just as those found in the relationships in Madame Bovary and Death in Venice. Sara admires this man for his knowledge and his education, but the connection does not go much deeper than that. Yet Sara still claims to be madly in love with Hugo despite only being in love with such impersonal qualities that he possesses. This is similar to when Aschenbach nearly falls in love with Tadzio based on his outer image and appearance. He does not know much, if anything at all, about what characteristics are possessed by Tadzio. But even having little knowledge of any more meaningful aspects of the boy, Aschenbach still claims to love him based on just watching him and following him around. Again, a similar occurrence was represented in Madame Bovary when Emma meets Leon for the first time at dinner. After picking for a couple of hours, I wash, sort and package blueberries to sell at the farmer s market in town. After selling all day, I might work a few hours at my off farm job since I am there. After dinner I supervise people who come to our house to pick blueberries until dark (Trauger, 2004, p. 289). The author proceeds to tell a story using Clare as the central character to introduce the overall topic of her research. She describes Claire as the well known blueberry lady who is recognized for the high quality produce that she and her husband grow on their sustainable farm, and she highlights the fact that Claire readily identifies herself as a farmer, versus the more traditional role of farmer s wife making a point that this is a very important distinction. She summarizes Claire s argument that in a more productivist, or conventional model of agriculture she would not be recognized as a farmer (Trauger, 2004), thus underlining how sustainable agricultureprovides a medium ... Organizations expelled immigrants from drinking and other forbidden behaviors such as prostitution and gambling. What these reformers didn t understand was that the conditions that immigrants faced, led them to act these ways. Jane Addams realized this. Addams developed a new weapon against poverty: the settlement houses. Addams toured in Europe in 1883 and was impressed by Toynbee Hall, which was a charity workers residence situated deep in a London slum. When Addams returned to Chicago in 1889, they purchased and refurnished Charles J. Hull s mansion and opened the Hull House, in a settlement approach. As Pre service teachers, we agreed that our inquiry should emphasise both formal and informal learning, and how academic pressures can be detrimental for socioemotional wellbeing. Our current philosophical question was not our original question (APPENDIX A), as we realised that our original question was excessively complex and broad. By utilising and reworking various elements of our original question, we formed our current philosophical question: Does our current educational system value academic skills and dispositions at the expense of socioemotional wellbeing? We discussed what we as individuals believe the Purpose of Educationencompasses. There was a general consensus that education needs to include elements of academia, however, some members saw the value of an informal education with a basis of social interaction. In depth dialogue and Socratic questioning, lead us to the notions of informal and formal education, where everyone drew upon their prior experiences. Later, we built upon our understanding, concluding that an efficacious education needs to be both formally and informally situated. We decided to focus on the Humanist and Constructivist Theorists: Confucius, John Dewey, Paulo Freire, Henry Girouxand Maria Montessori (Lewis, 2012). Our question is philosophical, because it can be supported by empirical evidence, it is broad, it is subject to differing opinions, and it promotes Socratic questioning and further discussion.
