Daniel Gilbert Reporting Live From Tomorrow Analysis
Happiness in Old Age
In Daniel Gilbert s Reporting Live from Tomorrow , Gilbert makes use of statistics, studies, and
experiments to convey a multitude of ideas, primarily the concept that while many people are opposed
to, or are in disbelief of it, turning to surrogates as means of predicting our own future is quite
effective. Gilbert s concepts and theories are quite important to take into consideration not only as a
general message of how human beings tend to let factors such as their imagination or their own self
image cloud their perspective on the future, but rather as an alternative viewpoint and how through
surrogates, we are able to make more accurate predictions on our own future, such as what will be
providing us happiness when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s a mindset like this that distances us from others because we believe that because our own thoughts
are subjective and different to those around us, making us unique to others regardless of whether or
not there s a similar goal. By looking past this, it allows us to be less hesitant in looking at others
when it comes to predicting our own future, especially in the case of those around us that may be
pursuing similar goals, majors, or careers. In the case of predicting my own future in particular, I d
have to rely mainly of the adults around me in my life, as well as various older acquaintances that
have shared stories of their similar interests and what those developed into. Ultimately, from this
perspective I can assume in my later years I d find much of my happiness through writing and reading,
specifically in topics or areas that are more reflective of my later interests. What s important to note
here is that while numerous adults and figures in my life do enjoy and share these hobbies and find
much of their happiness in them, it s also worth acknowledging that many of their interests, jobs, and
ultimately people who they surround themselves with is consistent, in my case that s still very much
subject to change. This is a very noteworthy point to raise, being that while there are some aspects that
can be predicted such as what kind of hobbies I d possibly find enjoyment in, the interests I d inherit
in my later

Cause And Effect Of Littering Research Paper
Living in Grand Junction during the spring time is wonderful. With the cool mornings and nice t shirt
weather during the afternoons it is almost like being in San Diego. This weather tends to attract people
toward the outdoors. While out exploring nature people tend to litter and trespass on fragile
environments. This lack of respect for nature is unwarranted. When going up to the Grand Mesa no
one wants to see trash lying around, it is a hazard to wildlife and an eyesore. Respecting nature and its
inhabitants is important and should be a priority to those out exploring it. When camping or just
setting up an area to hang out for a day people tend to be forgetful and leave items behind. It takes
only a few extra minutes to make sure there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is absolutely no reason to leave trash behind. There are so many risk due to the negligence of
others. With the vigilance of other people, keeping these parks and the animals that live there should
be easy. At least one would think. Unfortunately, some people lack respect for our environment or are
just lazy. These people pose a threat to the all national parks, not just our own. There needs to be a
way to teach those people that their actions or lack thereof are a threat to parks. Teaching people that
nature is something to be respected is important. It may help prevent them from littering and
trespassing. Everyone should have the opportunity to explore the great outdoors, but everyone should
also understand that there are rules and fines in place for a reason. There is no reason to litter or
trespass and to do so is irresponsible. Respecting nature and its inhabitants is important and should be
a priority to those out exploring

Research Proposal On Hydroelectric Generator
Science Fair Proposal
Edward Montanez
Everman Joe C.Bean High School
Abstract
A hydroelectric generator is a machine that uses mechanical energy to generate electricity, the
hydroelectricity comes from a large volumes of falling water to create the mechanical energy. I will be
constructing my own hydroelectric generator in order to show it is possible to create electricity using
large volumes of water, enough power to light a light bulb.
Background
Making Electricity and Hydroelectric Generators
Electricity is the flow of electrons through a metal wire, or through a conductor. Electrons are tiny
particles found in atoms, and is also one of the building blocks of all matter. Electrons carry tiny
negative charges, when they move through a conductor they produce a little invisible magnetic force.
The strength depends on how in motion the electrons are. Pushing the electrons a little closer and
tighter can cause a stronger field. When electrons produce a magnet force, you can use a magnet to
make the electrons mover which is how an hydroelectric generator works.
A hydroelectric generator is a machine that uses mechanical energy to generate electricity, the
hydroelectricity comes from a large volumes of falling water to create the mechanical energy. For
more than 100 years the simplest way to produce the volumes of falling water needed to make
electricity was to use dams to create electricity. But sometimes dams

Erruptions at Old Faithful Geyser
ERRUPTIONS OF THE OLD FAITHFUL GEYSER 1.0 Literature Review A geyser refers to a hot
spring that occasionally due geographical processes and difference in pressure erupts hot water and
steam in the air. The Old Faithful Geyser at Yellowstone National Park , Wyoming is one of the most
famous geyser in the world. Given the fame of this geyser, it receives visitors from various parts of the
world. For convenience of time, the national park service have erected some sign at the site to try help
visitors predict the time for the occurrence of the next eruption. The Old Faithful Geyser is not the
biggest or most regular geyser in Yellowstone but it is the biggest regular geyser. It has been erupting

The interval for the next eruption is based on the total duration of the current eruption. 1.2 Research
Question From previous studies there are misguided interpretations on the eruption duration and how
it affects the waiting time. From mere observations we can conclude that Old Faithful has a pattern
which follows a fixed set of time. The research questions that arises is; Does the eruption and waiting
time of the Old Faithful geyser follow a fixed set of time or is there a variation in the waiting time
with respect to the eruption time? 1.3 Research Methodology Data collection and sources; the data
used in this study comes from Azzalin and Bowman(1990). It includes a data frame with 272
observations on 2 variables that is eruption time and waiting time. The data is heavily rounded times
originally in seconds. Of the variables the waiting time has been used as the response variable while
eruption time appears as the predictor variable. These means that waiting time is seen to be
determined by the time an eruption takes. So we expect that the longer the eruption period, the longer
the waiting period. This paper wishes to study the test that, under the null hypothesis, there is no
variation in the waiting time. theassumptions under this hypothesis is that the interval time between
one eruption to the next is fixed and do not occur by chance. This paper shall use the

Themes Of Requiem For A Dream
Requiem for a Dream takes us down the dark paths of four people who, in desperate attempts to find
happiness and fulfilment, become sucked into a world of drug addiction. The 2000 film by Darren
Aronofsky is based upon Hubert Selby Jr. s 1978 novel of the same name. Sara Goldfarb (Ellen
Burstyn) is a retired widow who lives by herself in a tiny apartment. She is very lonely and spends
copious amounts of time watching television; she is especially enamored with a self help show. After a
phone call leads her to believe her dreams of appearing on the show as a guest might come true, she
attempts to lose weight. She starts taking diet pills and soon finds herself hooked, causing her mental
state to deteriorate rapidly. Her son, Harry (Jared Leto), is a junkie who, along with his friend, Tyrone
(Marlon Wayans), thinks that his big break in life will be when he becomes a big time drug dealer. He
has no qualms about using his mother s beloved television set as collateral for drug deals. Harry s
girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connelly) is a talented clothing designer who could have a future, but she
can t resist the drugs, and she finds herself sucked into down along with Harry. The film, which is set
in Brooklyn s Brighton Beach, holds close to the theme of the novel: the real drug we re all hooked on
is the American Dream, with its promises of big cash paydays and fame and eventually happiness . . .

The Need For Sex Therapy
The Need for Sex Therapy As research suggests, sex therapy can be an effective mode of treatment for
many issues in regards to sexual activity. From an outsider s perspective, it may be hard to understand
the process of sex therapy ad what it is used for. I would assume that people might think sex therapy is
for pedophiles or rapist, trying to control their urges . However, sex therapy is more than just for that
reason, it can be a healing process for those who have been abused or even a building bock for a
couple to improve their sexual relationship. As therapist, this is where education comes in. I believe
that if more people understood, the benefits of sex therapy the more they would promote the use of it
in treatment. In this paper, I will explain the need of sex therapy and describe what it would look like
in a therapeutic setting. In addition, I will provide a faith integration component in treatment.
Explaining the Need for Sex Therapy I believe that if I were ever asked to explain the need for sex
therapy, I think I would focus on major factors of how it can be beneficial to people. I think when
people hear the term sex therapy; there is a common stigma that it is only used for pedophiles or
rapist. Specifically, I would explain to them that, sex therapy is more than just for sexual dysfunctions.
I would explain that it could be a healing process for couples that are having marital issues or people
who have trauma from being abused. In a book review I explored

Compare And Contrast Mesopotamia And Indus River Valley...
Ishaan Sarfani The two ancient river valley civilizations of Mesopotamia and the Indus River valley
civilization, prior to 600 BCE had many things that remained stagnant in terms of their cultures but
also they had just as many changes. Due to New advances and by influence from other civilizations
such as the Indus over Mesopotamia and vice versa this increased the amount of change a lot. As these
river valley civilizations grew and developed they began to gain influence from other surrounding
ones. In both societies religion played a crucial role in politics. Although there is no solid evidence to
state that there was a formal style of governance in the ancient Indus civilization it is theorized that
there was because of the mass amounts of public works that there are present which are found in the
ruins of their civilization. So it is believed that the Brahmins is had some role to play in government.
As the story goes in India there was a god named purusha who sacrificed himself in order to cease the
caste system. Purusha s mouth became the people of the top caste called the Brahmins. These people
were the priests. Next came the warriors known as Kshatriyas. They made up purusha s arms. This
system followed and continued as such all the way down to purushas legs where the artisans and
craftsman were. In Mesopotamia there was a similar system to that of the Indus civilization s the code
of Hammurabi which shows us a glimpse into the Mesopotamians version of the case

The Pros And Cons Of Spanking
Spanking has become an arguably debatable form of discipline. According to a study at the University
of Texas, the more children are spanked, the more likely they are to defy their parents ( Spanking: Pros
and Cons ). There is a connection between spanking during the childhood and mental health diagnoses
later in life. There are other options of discipling your child than spanking them, especially because all
children can take spanking differently. Parents should not spank their child because it showers that
being stronger is right, demonstrates that older people have a right to hit younger people, and gives the
examples that violence solves all problems. One main reason why spanking isn t correct is because it
shows children that being the stronger one is right. When physical punishment is used to show a child
that they have done something wrong, an unintended message is sent to the child stating that
whomever is bigger and stronger determines what is right and what is wrong ( 10 Reasons Why You
Shouldn t Spank Your Kids ). Oftentimes, the stronger one being right leads to your child determining
what is right when he/she is stronger than you are. Therefore, if you spank your child, when they get
older they will believe to think that being the stronger one, they are allowed to hit those who are
weaker or younger than them. If your child is the oldest sibling, your child may believe that they will
be able to hurt their younger siblings when they do something wrong, just as they were disciplined
when they were a child. Another reason why a parent shouldn t spank their child is because it
demonstrates that older people have a right to hit younger people ( 10 Reasons Why You Shouldn t
Spank Your Child ). Through being spanked, the child learns that older and bigger people have the
right to hit younger and smaller people. This becomes even more confusing for a child when they are
being disciplined for hitting someone. When your child attends elementary school, the idea that your
child is able to hit someone younger than them at recess because the other child is on the swing your
child wanted to swing on will lead to more trouble down the line. Your child is now in the principal s
office for hitting another

Similarities And Mechanistic Theories Within A Pluralistic...
Counterfactuals and mechanistic theories present two distinct, although perhaps not incompatible
causal theories. In this paper, I will outline them, contrast their basic strengths, and finally aim to
argue in favour of a monist mechanistic account, in particular focusing on resolving two general
arguments against mechanistic theory to which the answer is commonly to adopt a pluralistic account.
Let s begin by considering our two causal accounts: First, counterfactuals centre on the notion that
alterations to the cause make a difference to it s effect. In this way, the relationship between the cause,
and the effect can be said to be causal so long as if I change the cause, the effect will be different.
Thus, if I were to throw a ball at a window, and it broke, then I could call the relationship between the
throwing of the ball and the window s breaking to be causal, so long as had I not thrown the ball, a
different effect (in this case, the window not breaking) would have occurred. By contrast, mechanistic
theory focuses on the identifiable linking processes between the cause and effect. Salmon, Dowe,
Machamer and Glennan all present accounts of mechanistic theory, however it is Glennan s approach
which I will focus on, as he has the most success in forming the underlying intuitions into clear
elements. He begins by identifying the component elements deemed necessary for a mechanistic
process, which includes the interaction of a series of parts, acting according to

Technology Of Square By San Francisco California
Technology of Square
In San Francisco California 2009, Twitter co founder Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey founded a
startup company called Square. The mainly purpose for the company is to make the whole process of

worry about the situation that they just have credit card but seller only can accept cash. For sellers,
Square provide cohesive service for them to run their entire business. This company has both software
and hardware payment product that allows vendors to accept credit card which is a much more
convenient way for customer to pay in a transaction.
Magstripe reader(Swipe)
The name of Square can refer to Square s card reader that are white square in shape or it can refers to
the whole Square payment system. For hardware products, it has three different devices based on
different ways for customers to handle their credit cards, they can either swipe or plug the card in
Square. So for its original product, magstripe reader, buyers are able to use their cards to swipe
through square which is a small magnetic reader that plugs into the headphone jack of an iPhone.
Once a credit card or a debit card is swiped through the reader, it reads the data and converts it into an
audio signal. The microphone picks up the audio, sends it through the processors and then is routed to
Square s software application on the iPhone. From there the encrypted data is transmitted using

Escape From Alcatraz ( 1979 ) Directed By Don Siegel
The legendary film, Escape from Alcatraz (1979) directed by the famous iconic movie maker, Don
Siegel, tells a riveting story about three close inmates and their highly thought out escape plan. Frank
Morris, played by the famous Clint Eastwood, is transported to the most solid and uptight prison,
Alcatraz, in San Francisco, California. He is transferred from a prison in Atlanta, Georgia and booked
into Alcatraz on January 18, 1960. Upon his arrival, the prison warden informs Morris that no one has
ever escaped Alcatraz. He lets Morris know that many have tried to escape, but they were never
successful. As a warning to Morris, the warden states that no one will ever escape under his
supervision. Morris in turn uses this statement from the warden as his motivation to once again escape
from prison. Morris has previously escaped every prison he has been placed in, and this happens to be
the reason for his transfer to Alcatraz. Two other inmates, Clarence and John Anglin who are
biological brothers, assist in the notorious escape and manage to flee alongside Morris. Clarence and
John Anglin are played by the actors Frank Ward and Jack Thibeau. The brothers were not transported
to Alcatraz Island until months after Frank Morris had been transferred and booked. However, the
three friendmates were tight acquaintances in the Atlanta, Georgia prison. The movie and the

George Lakoff s Anna Nicole On The Brain
In George Lakoff s book The Political Mind , in an excerpt entitled as Anna Nicole on the Brain , he
talks about our mind is our brain. Values, thoughts and principles come from within. They come
exactly deep inside our brains and form there. Our life shapes us by the narratives that we live in.
These narratives are the different parts of our lives that people defined us. And these parts are
structured in what we call frames . Every frame of our life has a role. For example, Lakoff says, when
Anna Nicole Smith died, she is seen with different narratives such as Rags to Riches narrative,
American Redemption narrative, and Troubled Life narrative and the list goes on; each narrative
conveys how people see and judge her through her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
shows. Audiences become more aware of continuing story lines, erratic character development and
never ending problems. Here, complex narratives of characters are formed in front of the audience so
they would crave for some more story telling. Lakoff s complex narrative can be seen in the show for
example, 24 . First, it is about an anti terrorism organization narrative which surely a must view for
the people s consciousness about a huge problem today. Second, the character development of the
protagonist using combinations of narratives is used so that it would greatly impact the audience
through the protagonist s actions. Lastly, the writers use cliffhanger narratives for each episode to
build more momentum, which is needed to create a marathon series. Television shows are only one of
the many uses of complex narratives. Complex narratives can be used from entertainment to politics to
our personal lives and several others. Narratives can be used to see through the lens of a person s life.
Narratives let us judge how to view a person based on his or her life story. People s views change
depending on what narrative either with a positive or negative motif we see a person fits in, especially
when people see themselves living in that person s narrative. Through neural bindings, the blending of
simple narratives create complexity, it is where it produces emotional experiences that mend people s

The Criminal Justice System And Psychology Essay
I WANT TO BECOME A CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGIST AND THIS IS WHAT I LEARNED
Madelynn Krutsinger
Introduction
I m double majoring in Criminal Justice and Psychology because further down the road in my life I
would love to be a Criminal Psychologist. I choose these fields because I love being able to
understand why people do what they do. I want to understand why people do things a certain way, just
looking at it in a psychological kind of way. Especially with criminals, what led them to murder that
guy or rape that girl? What pursued them and what part of them thought that it would be acceptable?
I really enjoy the concepts of the criminal justice system and how it works. I grew up in a family that
revolved around emergency units, ranging from EMTS, AEMTS, Prison Guards, Nurses, Police
Officers and so forth. Being around that at the time gave me a love for the field. Understanding the
codes, the high pace calls, honestly, even the hours. I fell in love with the idea of being able to make a
difference in people s lives, and for example, if I was going to be a police officer that is what I would
do. Originally I had planned to go to Waldorf University and major in criminal justice to become a
police officer. I saw many two faced/unreasonable officers throughout my years of growing up that I
wanted to do something different. I remember hearing about the cases on tv and thinking, hey, I can
make a difference. I wanted to become a police officer to show people that not

The Influence of History on American Literature Essay
A Tale Intended to be After the Fact... is how Stephan Crane introduced his harrowing story, The Open

there has been a connection among literary works from different periods. The connection is that
History, current events, and social events have influenced American Literature. Authors, their literary
works, and the specific writing styles; are affected and influenced by the world around them. Authors
have long used experiences they have lived through and/or taken out of history to help shape and

Regionalism and local color writings are each specific types of Realism. They worked to record a
distinctive way of life. Regionalism often showed regional dialect, food, clothing styles and customs
of that time period. Naturalism, like realism, works to accurately portray its subject matter, but
naturalism also works to find the scientific theory. Each of these writing styles have characteristics
that make them stand out from one another but they all seem to also have a common link of showing
life realistically of that time period. It is easy to see that current events and issues of the world around
them have had an impact on authors and what they have written from the stories in this time period.
The Native American authors wrote stories describing life during and after white man came to
America. We read Oratory s by two Native American s COCHISE and CHARLOT. They gave heart
wrenching speeches, giving great details into the history of the tribes and the devastating effect the
white man had on them. Author Zitkala Sa gave us a powerful interpretation of her life as a Indian and
how the white s coming to America affected her life.
The African American authors of this time period wrote stories describing life during and after slavery.
Real life issues that these authors lived through and experienced through the world around them. The
excerpts that we read of Booker T. Washington s Up From Slavery, told a compelling tale of his life of

The space given to the bartenders is secluded to only them and is only, rarely, invaded with his
approval. Whereas, the space provided for the waitress s is often invaded by both the costumers and
the bartenders. Even though the space given to the customers is also where the waitress must work it is
often hard for the waitress to move through customers due to their carelessness of her presence. When
the waitress s space is invaded or when they are held back from doing their job they must always
remain passive. The last objective researched at Brady s was to determine the ways that people ask for
drinks and how these ways reflect interactions between male and female. Drinks are asked for in
several ways that often make the waitress s job much harder. In order to serve the customer to his/her
satisfaction the waitress must have knowledge of all drinks served at Brady s, be able to make
corrections on any order that is stated incorrectly, give orders to the bartender in the correct way, and
respond to interactions appropriately. Again, this objective shows that the role of the waitress is to
ensure the satisfaction of the bartender as well the customer in any given situation. The authors used
participant observation and interview to do this research. I think the method of field work that
provided the most insightful information was the method of participant observation. By

Virtual Phone Number Advantages And Disadvantages
A virtual phone number can be used like a regular number, but having a virtual number is beneficial
because it is not directly associated with any telephone line. Therefore, virtual phone numbers work
by forwarding incoming phone calls to another phone or electronic device, such as a computer. This
service is a great tool for individuals who travel for work or have migrated from other countries as
well as companies who wish to do business in other countries, but are not yet equipped to build a brick
and mortar office overseas.
For example, if you wanted to do business in Egypt, you could use a virtual phone number to route
calls from Egyptian locals to your offices located in any city, such as London, Los Angeles, or
Toronto. It s an extremely low cost method for your business to stay in contact with Egyptian
consumers and stay competitive in the Egyptian market.
If you ve decided to expand your business overseas to Egypt, Global Call Forwarding offers virtual
toll free numbers. This modern advancement in telecommunications will give you a much larger
advantage over business competitors. There are several beneficial reasons to bring your company s

as the play progresses. Most prominently, Lady Bracknell s character is implemented to exaggerate the
higher class, depict the ideals of society and effectively expose the other character s status. For
instance, Lady Bracknell staunchly believes that one should never waste time sympathizing with
invalids like Mr. Bunbury, for he should ...[make] up his mind whether he was going to live or [] die,
(1.718); this is exceptionally critical for the seating to be apt at her dinner party. Moreover, while Lady
Bracknell holds her nephew, Algernon, in high esteem, her interactions with Jack presents their stark
inequality of social status. To expand,

Pharmacology And Migraine Research
Migraine and Evidence based pharmacology
Introduction
In the current medical practices, there are several treatment options. The pharmaceutical industry
produces so many drugs that perform similar functions (Chaitow Schoenen, 2013). However, the
pharmacokinetics of the drugs are quite different. Moreover, all the drugs in the market have different
side effects and toxicity profiles. The same drug tends to behave differently in different people.
Therefore, doctors are faced with hardships when choosing the best treatment option to adopt in
particular patients. It is for this reason that evidence based practice(EBP) was introduced.
Evidence based practice in the field of medicine is used to refer to the application of results obtained

Migraine headaches are often experienced on one side of the head (Tepper, 2004). The pain is
associated with the pulsatile sensation that differs from one person to another. Migraine is also
characterized by throbbing and pounding headache that can lead to nausea, vomiting, and in some
instances photophobia. Presently, about 12 % of Americans experience migraine headaches every day.
Research shows that migraine mostly affect people aged 15 to 55 years (Tepper, 2004). Migraine has
been said to occur as a result of impaired nervous and circulatory system. In migraine, blood vessels
undergo vasodilation. The enlargement of the vessels interferes with the nerve cells that normally
surround the vessels making them secrete various chemical mediators. These chemicals include
prostaglandins, substance P, interleukins, and cytokines (Schulman, 2010). The chemicals are
responsible for inflammation and transmission of pain impulses. The associated feelings of nausea and
vomiting are attributed to the activation of the sympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic response
also leads to slowed motility and gastric emptying that in turn reduces absorptions of gastric contents
such as nutrients and drugs. Additionally, the sympathetic system also leads to excessive sound and
light sensitivity. Statistics reveals that migraines affect more women than men. The severity of
migraine headaches ranges from mild, moderate to severe depending on the individuals affected. In
some instances, migraine headache can be a major cause of morbidity due to its debilitating

Comparing Christianity And Islam
Christianity and Islam are both well known and respected religions, whose teachings share many
similarities as well as many differences. First we are going to discuss Christianity and their beliefs.
The word Christians is defined as a follower or disciples of Jesus Christ. According to The Bible,
Jesus Christ was born from Marry, who was a virgin, this was only made possible by the Holy Spirit.
Therefore he was not just man, but he was also God at once. In The Bible it is written in Matthew
1:23, The virgin will be pregnant. She will have a son, and they will name him Immanuel , which
means, God is with us. Jesus Christ, God and the Holy Spirit are three in one, known as the trinity.
Christians believe that God sent Jesus Christ to save ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Angels, which are defined as unseen beings who carry out Gods orders throughout the universe.
Gabriel the angel who came to visit Muhammad is a key figure in Christianity and Islam. We can go
all the way to the beginning, when sin was first developed, when Adam disobeyed God and cursed all
of man with death. Christians and Muslims believe that starting with Adam, God appointed
messengers, or prophets, throughout history to spread God s word and to teach the world about him.
Another thing they agree upon is judgement day and the hereafter life. They believe that when
judgment day comes that God will come back and Judge everyone, humans will be judged for their
actions on earth and be held accountable and those who rejected him will be sent to hell, which brings
me to the Ten Commandments, which are ten moral laws.
Though the Ten Commandments are not specified in the Quran, nine of the Ten Commandments are
quoted throughout the Quran. For example, the first pillar and the first commandment start with there
is only one, God, only worship that God. Another important thing that they have in common is they
both worship the God of Abraham. They both believe in Satan. Though their beliefs share similarities,
they also have differences as

Purloined Letter Deception
If you are good at something don t do it for free. Heath Ledger. In The Purloined Letter by Edgar
Allan Poe s detective story, Dupin , the detective, instead of helping police find the Purloined letter he
himself finds and gets the reward. The minster creates two types of deception. The Purloined letter
themes include types of deception : Omission, Equivocation, Falsification, and logic versus
imagination. In the story, Poe demonstrates deception with each of his three main character Dupin :
the detective, G : the Parisian police and D : the minister. G uses Omission during his conversation
with Dupin and Dupin s assistant about the stolen letter. I will tell you in a few words; but, before I
begin, let me caution you that this is an affair demanding the greatest secrecy, and that I should most
probably lose the position I now hold, were it known that I confided it to anyone. Poe uses G to

Why Is Adrienne Rich Claiming An Education Summary
In Adrienne Rich s essay, Claiming an Education , the author speaks about the female experience
against the male dominated academic scene. Despite the fact that this essay was written in 1979, a
number of Rich s points seem timeless. Rich encourages young women to insist on a life of
meaningful work. As a seventeen year old student, I have often heard from my female companions
that they anticipate a higher education as an opportunity to hunt down a spouse. The frequency and
zeal of this conclusion, seeing education only as means of marriage, strikes me as particularly pitiful
and archaic. Adrienne Rich s thesis in Claiming an Education aptly expresses the array of roles women
hold in societies, the benefits, and weaknesses of our education system, as well as the struggles that
women are exposed to. She successfully develops her thesis statement by the effective use of a variety
of methods of development and various literary devices to improve her writing quality and to help
readers interpret her message. I agree with Rich s thesis statement because education entails being
responsible for oneself, not just for women, but for all students.
Rich uses effective methods of development to further expand her thesis statement. The use of
compare and contrast and definition is seen in certain sections of the essay. Comparing and contrasting
illuminates the subtle differences and similarities, which increases the reader s understanding. For
instance, Rich compares the definitions

spirit Topic from yellow One reason why they won the war was because they had knowledge about the
geography of the colonies and they could use hills and other geographic features that the british didn t
know about to ambush them. The british were not trained to fight in the colonial terrain which was
very different from british terrain and they had no idea where to hide and it was a disadvantage. In the

The Lexus And The Olive Tree By Thomas L. Friedman
The world we live in today has witnessed a variety of changes, improvements and important events
overtime. Yet, the most significant incident for many and especially for business related people is
Globalisation. It is a term that is used to describe the exchange of knowledge, services, trade,
information, cultures and capital between people, governments and organisations of different societies.
According to The Economist (2013), economic historians opinions tend to differ when it comes to the
history of Globalisation or when did it start. However, they all agree that it is a process that has been
going on for a long period of time. People have been trading and exchanging goods and knowledge in
lands at great distances for ages. It is a consequence of the movement of people from a continent to
another. Historians also believe that it is related to the base of trade and world commerce that was
built and established centuries ago. Nonetheless, globalisation gained the attention of developed and
under developing countries at the end of the 20th century. It was by the cease of the cold war and the
innovation of the Internet as Thomas L. Friedman has mentioned in one of his books on Globalisation
called The Lexus and the Olive Tree. The technological advancement that we are observing nowadays
has made the world a smaller place. It has brought cultures and people closer together since
connecting with individuals from all over the globe is much simpler compared to the past.

that children are left to take care of themselves. Another disadvantage is that the feeling of safety and
security is lacking. There is also not much of a support system.

Explain Why 16 And 17 Year Olds Should Have The Right To Vote
I agree, that 16 and 17 year old citizens should have to right to vote. The legal voting age in America
is 18 years old, and it has been that way for about 40 years. They were given that right when the the
26th amendment was passed, and ever since it has been passed, there was no real dramatic increase in
the voting rate. Young people didn t really pay attention to politics, usually because at that age, 18
year old already had a lot to deal with in their daily lives. The Montgomery County community, which
is the nation s first to lower the voting age from 18 to 16, (according to the article), had no problems
when trying to pass this through the City Council. Although one member of the Takoma City Council ,
did not agree with the fact that 16 year olds should have the right to vote. Fred Schultz is the one that
didn t agree, he stated that the result won t be be worth the time ... Show more content on

The main reason why I agree is because, most students in high schools are taking Government or AP
Government class in 12th grade. In that class you get to learn about politics and how the government
and voting works, furthermore, I believe that we are the best education to make a decision that is
going to affect the country. Most people vote because one of the candidate supports only one of the
issue that they agree with, and it shouldn t be that way. The people voting should have the knowledge
of what every candidate s plans are and base their vote off of that, not just because they support one
issues that that voter agrees on. I also know that there we a lot of 16 and 17 year old that wanted to
vote, but of course couldn t because of their age, and I don t think that is fair. If we are educated on the
issues and the candidates running for office, we should have the right to vote, besides 16 year olds are
probably more educated than most 18 years on, when it comes to

1614) it is then when everything starts changing. In general, some people will ask about Macbeth s
decision and if his destiny will be different if he did not listen the witches. As a result, the reader can
infer that the main influence of Macbeth is the prophecy and if he did not choose the way to become a
king, he would not kill the king or committed other sins. As the equivalent for this part of the text, in
Throne of Blood, the initial calmness is broken when Washizu and Miki is riding their horses through
the forest, looking for the web spider s castle, moment in which they found a spirit in the forest that
tells them that Washizu will eventually become the Great Lord of the Spider s web Castle, and Miki
will become Commander of the First Fortress and his son one day shall rule the Spider s web Castle
causing the same effect as the witches in Macbeth (00:11:50 00:19:50).
Finally, in the movie Final Destination, Alex has a premonition about a huge accident, in which his
airplane explodes and as it appears in the minute 00:15:02 00:15:28, all the passengers die including
him of course. So, Alex starts realizing that some of the facts that he saw in his premonition are
becoming true in the present. In consequent, his main intention is to avoid his premonition; he does
not want this dream to become true. He says to everyone that the airplane will explode and everyone is
going to die. Then,

  • 2. Daniel Gilbert Reporting Live From Tomorrow Analysis Happiness in Old Age In Daniel Gilbert s Reporting Live from Tomorrow , Gilbert makes use of statistics, studies, and experiments to convey a multitude of ideas, primarily the concept that while many people are opposed to, or are in disbelief of it, turning to surrogates as means of predicting our own future is quite effective. Gilbert s concepts and theories are quite important to take into consideration not only as a general message of how human beings tend to let factors such as their imagination or their own self image cloud their perspective on the future, but rather as an alternative viewpoint and how through surrogates, we are able to make more accurate predictions on our own future, such as what will be providing us happiness when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s a mindset like this that distances us from others because we believe that because our own thoughts are subjective and different to those around us, making us unique to others regardless of whether or not there s a similar goal. By looking past this, it allows us to be less hesitant in looking at others when it comes to predicting our own future, especially in the case of those around us that may be pursuing similar goals, majors, or careers. In the case of predicting my own future in particular, I d have to rely mainly of the adults around me in my life, as well as various older acquaintances that have shared stories of their similar interests and what those developed into. Ultimately, from this perspective I can assume in my later years I d find much of my happiness through writing and reading, specifically in topics or areas that are more reflective of my later interests. What s important to note here is that while numerous adults and figures in my life do enjoy and share these hobbies and find much of their happiness in them, it s also worth acknowledging that many of their interests, jobs, and ultimately people who they surround themselves with is consistent, in my case that s still very much subject to change. This is a very noteworthy point to raise, being that while there are some aspects that can be predicted such as what kind of hobbies I d possibly find enjoyment in, the interests I d inherit in my later ... • 3. Cause And Effect Of Littering Research Paper Living in Grand Junction during the spring time is wonderful. With the cool mornings and nice t shirt weather during the afternoons it is almost like being in San Diego. This weather tends to attract people toward the outdoors. While out exploring nature people tend to litter and trespass on fragile environments. This lack of respect for nature is unwarranted. When going up to the Grand Mesa no one wants to see trash lying around, it is a hazard to wildlife and an eyesore. Respecting nature and its inhabitants is important and should be a priority to those out exploring it. When camping or just setting up an area to hang out for a day people tend to be forgetful and leave items behind. It takes only a few extra minutes to make sure there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is absolutely no reason to leave trash behind. There are so many risk due to the negligence of others. With the vigilance of other people, keeping these parks and the animals that live there should be easy. At least one would think. Unfortunately, some people lack respect for our environment or are just lazy. These people pose a threat to the all national parks, not just our own. There needs to be a way to teach those people that their actions or lack thereof are a threat to parks. Teaching people that nature is something to be respected is important. It may help prevent them from littering and trespassing. Everyone should have the opportunity to explore the great outdoors, but everyone should also understand that there are rules and fines in place for a reason. There is no reason to litter or trespass and to do so is irresponsible. Respecting nature and its inhabitants is important and should be a priority to those out exploring ... • 4. Research Proposal On Hydroelectric Generator Science Fair Proposal Edward Montanez Everman Joe C.Bean High School Abstract A hydroelectric generator is a machine that uses mechanical energy to generate electricity, the hydroelectricity comes from a large volumes of falling water to create the mechanical energy. I will be constructing my own hydroelectric generator in order to show it is possible to create electricity using large volumes of water, enough power to light a light bulb. Background Making Electricity and Hydroelectric Generators Electricity is the flow of electrons through a metal wire, or through a conductor. Electrons are tiny particles found in atoms, and is also one of the building blocks of all matter. Electrons carry tiny negative charges, when they move through a conductor they produce a little invisible magnetic force. The strength depends on how in motion the electrons are. Pushing the electrons a little closer and tighter can cause a stronger field. When electrons produce a magnet force, you can use a magnet to make the electrons mover which is how an hydroelectric generator works. A hydroelectric generator is a machine that uses mechanical energy to generate electricity, the hydroelectricity comes from a large volumes of falling water to create the mechanical energy. For more than 100 years the simplest way to produce the volumes of falling water needed to make electricity was to use dams to create electricity. But sometimes dams ... Erruptions at Old Faithful Geyser ERRUPTIONS OF THE OLD FAITHFUL GEYSER 1.0 Literature Review A geyser refers to a hot spring that occasionally due geographical processes and difference in pressure erupts hot water and steam in the air. The Old Faithful Geyser at Yellowstone National Park , Wyoming is one of the most famous geyser in the world. Given the fame of this geyser, it receives visitors from various parts of the world. For convenience of time, the national park service have erected some sign at the site to try help visitors predict the time for the occurrence of the next eruption. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The interval for the next eruption is based on the total duration of the current eruption. 1.2 Research Question From previous studies there are misguided interpretations on the eruption duration and how it affects the waiting time. From mere observations we can conclude that Old Faithful has a pattern which follows a fixed set of time. The research questions that arises is; Does the eruption and waiting time of the Old Faithful geyser follow a fixed set of time or is there a variation in the waiting time with respect to the eruption time? 1.3 Research Methodology Data collection and sources; the data used in this study comes from Azzalin and Bowman(1990). It includes a data frame with 272 observations on 2 variables that is eruption time and waiting time. The data is heavily rounded times originally in seconds. Of the variables the waiting time has been used as the response variable while eruption time appears as the predictor variable. These means that waiting time is seen to be determined by the time an eruption takes. So we expect that the longer the eruption period, the longer the waiting period. This paper wishes to study the test that, under the null hypothesis, there is no variation in the waiting time. theassumptions under this hypothesis is that the interval time between one eruption to the next is fixed and do not occur by chance. Themes Of Requiem For A Dream Requiem for a Dream takes us down the dark paths of four people who, in desperate attempts to find happiness and fulfilment, become sucked into a world of drug addiction. The 2000 film by Darren Aronofsky is based upon Hubert Selby Jr. s 1978 novel of the same name. Sara Goldfarb (Ellen Burstyn) is a retired widow who lives by herself in a tiny apartment. She is very lonely and spends copious amounts of time watching television; she is especially enamored with a self help show. After a phone call leads her to believe her dreams of appearing on the show as a guest might come true, she attempts to lose weight. She starts taking diet pills and soon finds herself hooked, causing her mental state to deteriorate rapidly. Her son, Harry (Jared Leto), is a junkie who, along with his friend, Tyrone (Marlon Wayans), thinks that his big break in life will be when he becomes a big time drug dealer. He has no qualms about using his mother s beloved television set as collateral for drug deals. Harry s girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connelly) is a talented clothing designer who could have a future, but she can t resist the drugs, and she finds herself sucked into down along with Harry. The film, which is set in Brooklyn s Brighton Beach, holds close to the theme of the novel: the real drug we re all hooked on is the American Dream, with its promises of big cash paydays and fame and eventually happiness . . . • 8. The Need For Sex Therapy The Need for Sex Therapy As research suggests, sex therapy can be an effective mode of treatment for many issues in regards to sexual activity. From an outsider s perspective, it may be hard to understand the process of sex therapy ad what it is used for. I would assume that people might think sex therapy is for pedophiles or rapist, trying to control their urges . However, sex therapy is more than just for that reason, it can be a healing process for those who have been abused or even a building bock for a couple to improve their sexual relationship. As therapist, this is where education comes in. I believe that if more people understood, the benefits of sex therapy the more they would promote the use of it in treatment. In this paper, I will explain the need of sex therapy and describe what it would look like in a therapeutic setting. In addition, I will provide a faith integration component in treatment. Explaining the Need for Sex Therapy I believe that if I were ever asked to explain the need for sex therapy, I think I would focus on major factors of how it can be beneficial to people. I think when people hear the term sex therapy; there is a common stigma that it is only used for pedophiles or rapist. Specifically, I would explain to them that, sex therapy is more than just for sexual dysfunctions. I would explain that it could be a healing process for couples that are having marital issues or people who have trauma from being abused. In a book review I explored ... • 9. Compare And Contrast Mesopotamia And Indus River Valley... Ishaan Sarfani The two ancient river valley civilizations of Mesopotamia and the Indus River valley civilization, prior to 600 BCE had many things that remained stagnant in terms of their cultures but also they had just as many changes. Due to New advances and by influence from other civilizations such as the Indus over Mesopotamia and vice versa this increased the amount of change a lot. As these river valley civilizations grew and developed they began to gain influence from other surrounding ones. In both societies religion played a crucial role in politics. Although there is no solid evidence to state that there was a formal style of governance in the ancient Indus civilization it is theorized that there was because of the mass amounts of public works that there are present which are found in the ruins of their civilization. So it is believed that the Brahmins is had some role to play in government. As the story goes in India there was a god named purusha who sacrificed himself in order to cease the caste system. Purusha s mouth became the people of the top caste called the Brahmins. These people were the priests. Next came the warriors known as Kshatriyas. They made up purusha s arms. This system followed and continued as such all the way down to purushas legs where the artisans and craftsman were. In Mesopotamia there was a similar system to that of the Indus civilization s the code of Hammurabi which shows us a glimpse into the Mesopotamians version of the case ... • 10. The Pros And Cons Of Spanking Spanking has become an arguably debatable form of discipline. According to a study at the University of Texas, the more children are spanked, the more likely they are to defy their parents ( Spanking: Pros and Cons ). There is a connection between spanking during the childhood and mental health diagnoses later in life. There are other options of discipling your child than spanking them, especially because all children can take spanking differently. Parents should not spank their child because it showers that being stronger is right, demonstrates that older people have a right to hit younger people, and gives the examples that violence solves all problems. One main reason why spanking isn t correct is because it shows children that being the stronger one is right. When physical punishment is used to show a child that they have done something wrong, an unintended message is sent to the child stating that whomever is bigger and stronger determines what is right and what is wrong ( 10 Reasons Why You Shouldn t Spank Your Kids ). Oftentimes, the stronger one being right leads to your child determining what is right when he/she is stronger than you are. Therefore, if you spank your child, when they get older they will believe to think that being the stronger one, they are allowed to hit those who are weaker or younger than them. If your child is the oldest sibling, your child may believe that they will be able to hurt their younger siblings when they do something wrong, just as they were disciplined when they were a child. Another reason why a parent shouldn t spank their child is because it demonstrates that older people have a right to hit younger people ( 10 Reasons Why You Shouldn t Spank Your Child ). Through being spanked, the child learns that older and bigger people have the right to hit younger and smaller people. This becomes even more confusing for a child when they are being disciplined for hitting someone. When your child attends elementary school, the idea that your child is able to hit someone younger than them at recess because the other child is on the swing your child wanted to swing on will lead to more trouble down the line. Your child is now in the principal s office for hitting another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Similarities And Mechanistic Theories Within A Pluralistic... Counterfactuals and mechanistic theories present two distinct, although perhaps not incompatible causal theories. In this paper, I will outline them, contrast their basic strengths, and finally aim to argue in favour of a monist mechanistic account, in particular focusing on resolving two general arguments against mechanistic theory to which the answer is commonly to adopt a pluralistic account. Let s begin by considering our two causal accounts: First, counterfactuals centre on the notion that alterations to the cause make a difference to it s effect. In this way, the relationship between the cause, and the effect can be said to be causal so long as if I change the cause, the effect will be different. Thus, if I were to throw a ball at a window, and it broke, then I could call the relationship between the throwing of the ball and the window s breaking to be causal, so long as had I not thrown the ball, a different effect (in this case, the window not breaking) would have occurred. By contrast, mechanistic theory focuses on the identifiable linking processes between the cause and effect. Salmon, Dowe, Machamer and Glennan all present accounts of mechanistic theory, however it is Glennan s approach which I will focus on, as he has the most success in forming the underlying intuitions into clear elements. He begins by identifying the component elements deemed necessary for a mechanistic process, which includes the interaction of a series of parts, acting according to ... Values, thoughts and principles come from within. They come exactly deep inside our brains and form there. Our life shapes us by the narratives that we live in. These narratives are the different parts of our lives that people defined us. And these parts are structured in what we call frames . Every frame of our life has a role. The Criminal Justice System And Psychology Essay I WANT TO BECOME A CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGIST AND THIS IS WHAT I LEARNED Madelynn Krutsinger Introduction I m double majoring in Criminal Justice and Psychology because further down the road in my life I would love to be a Criminal Psychologist. I choose these fields because I love being able to understand why people do what they do. I want to understand why people do things a certain way, just looking at it in a psychological kind of way. Especially with criminals, what led them to murder that guy or rape that girl? What pursued them and what part of them thought that it would be acceptable? I really enjoy the concepts of the criminal justice system and how it works. I grew up in a family that revolved around emergency units, ranging from EMTS, AEMTS, Prison Guards, Nurses, Police Officers and so forth. Being around that at the time gave me a love for the field. Understanding the codes, the high pace calls, honestly, even the hours. I fell in love with the idea of being able to make a difference in people s lives, and for example, if I was going to be a police officer that is what I would do. Originally I had planned to go to Waldorf University and major in criminal justice to become a police officer. I saw many two faced/unreasonable officers throughout my years of growing up that I wanted to do something different. The last objective researched at Brady s was to determine the ways that people ask for drinks and how these ways reflect interactions between male and female. Drinks are asked for in several ways that often make the waitress s job much harder. In order to serve the customer to his/her satisfaction the waitress must have knowledge of all drinks served at Brady s, be able to make corrections on any order that is stated incorrectly, give orders to the bartender in the correct way, and respond to interactions appropriately. Again, this objective shows that the role of the waitress is to ensure the satisfaction of the bartender as well the customer in any given situation. Presently, about 12 % of Americans experience migraine headaches every day. Research shows that migraine mostly affect people aged 15 to 55 years (Tepper, 2004). Migraine has been said to occur as a result of impaired nervous and circulatory system. In migraine, blood vessels undergo vasodilation. The enlargement of the vessels interferes with the nerve cells that normally surround the vessels making them secrete various chemical mediators. These chemicals include prostaglandins, substance P, interleukins, and cytokines (Schulman, 2010). The chemicals are responsible for inflammation and transmission of pain impulses. The associated feelings of nausea and vomiting are attributed to the activation of the sympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic response also leads to slowed motility and gastric emptying that in turn reduces absorptions of gastric contents such as nutrients and drugs. Additionally, the sympathetic system also leads to excessive sound and light sensitivity. Statistics reveals that migraines affect more women than men. Despite the fact that this essay was written in 1979, a number of Rich s points seem timeless. Rich encourages young women to insist on a life of meaningful work. As a seventeen year old student, I have often heard from my female companions that they anticipate a higher education as an opportunity to hunt down a spouse. The frequency and zeal of this conclusion, seeing education only as means of marriage, strikes me as particularly pitiful and archaic. Adrienne Rich s thesis in Claiming an Education aptly expresses the array of roles women hold in societies, the benefits, and weaknesses of our education system, as well as the struggles that women are exposed to. She successfully develops her thesis statement by the effective use of a variety of methods of development and various literary devices to improve her writing quality and to help readers interpret her message. I agree with Rich s thesis statement because education entails being responsible for oneself, not just for women, but for all students. Rich uses effective methods of development to further expand her thesis statement. The use of compare and contrast and definition is seen in certain sections of the essay. Comparing and contrasting illuminates the subtle differences and similarities, which increases the reader s understanding. For instance, Rich compares the definitions ...
