The Essence Of The Debate
The Essence of the Debate
Divine Election according to Calvin
One of the most valuable key sources of information on the subject of divine election is John
Calvin s Institutes of the Christian Religion. He began weaving doctrinal revelation and
explanation together in 1536 and finished the text in 1559. The initial composed manuscript
presented comprehensive perspectives aligning with the four points of the Apostle s creed. As time
passed, Calvin decided to instruct readers in the rudiments of Christianity and offer a clear
confession by which the French king could judge Reformation s supposed heresy. The twenty first
chapter of the third book of this work offered his understanding on the subject of divine election.
The first line of this section explains the covenant of life is not preached to all, and among those to
whom it is preached, does not always meet with the same reception . God has chosen, according to
his mere pleasure, to spontaneously offer salvation to some and destruction to others. Although
much scriptural evidence exists supporting this understanding, this revelation remains a mystery.
Paul s declaration in the Book of Romans suggests divine election cannot be known unless God,
throwing works entirely out of view, elect those whom he has predestined . Hence, individuals
need to remember that this subject of predestination is hidden in the recesses of divine wisdom. All
are not born on the same terms; some are destined for eternal life and others

Government Intervention In The Market System
Discuss the case for and against government intervention in an economy.
In most of the countries, the government has intervened in the market system. To some extent there
is a dire need of government intervention in the market system, although there is a debate over this
point among the economists. Many economists believe that the role of government intervention
improves the market system. The government can easily enforce the rules that can help in the
smooth functioning of the market system. On the other hand, there are economists who believe that
government interventions in a market system are the reason of inefficiency in the system.
There are some goods that underprovided and underconsumed. Such goods are cold merit goods.

Information failure occurs when people have inaccurate, incomplete, uncertain or misunderstood
data and so make potentially wrong choices. Government action can have a role in improving
information to help consumers and producers value the true cost and/or benefit of a good or
service. Examples might include: * Compulsory labeling on cigarette packages with health
warnings to reduce smoking * Improved nutritional information on foods to counter the risks of
growing obesity * Anti speeding television advertising to reduce road accidents and advertising
campaigns to raise awareness of the risks of drink driving * Advertising health screening
programmes / information campaigns on the dangers of addiction
Another advantage of government intervention is the national minimum wage. The national
minimum wage was introduced into the UK in 1999. It is an intervention in the labour market
designed to increase the pay of lower paid workers and thereby influence the distribution of income
in society. In October 2005, the value of the minimum wage for adults was ВЈ5.05 following a
series of small increases over recent years.
The main aims of the minimum wage 1. The equity justification: That every job should offer a fair
rate of pay commensurate with the skills and experience of an employee 2. Labour market
incentives: The NMW is designed to improve the incentives for people to start looking for work
thereby

Statement Of Purpose For Architecture
My enthusiasm for architecture has developed from a very young age furthermore remains as a
long lasting passion of mine. My interest in mathematics and natural talent in art has played a
huge role in my decision of becoming an architect. To pursue my passion for architecture, I
studied graphic design and fine art for A levels at City and Islington College . This has enabled me
to gain the suitable artistry to visualise ideas and demonstrate my flair for creative design. My art
based educational background has influenced me to realise that architectural forms are creative
representations of a designer s imagination. Therefore, I believe that architectureis not just a career
path, but also a platform which I could self express my ideas. I... Show more content on

For Conducting Risk Assessments
Stephen J. Donnellon
Walsh College of Accountancy and Business
Abstract
The information age has brought with it the need to secure computer networks against unauthorized
access, data manipulation and identification protection. There is no such thing as 100% secure or if
an attacker wants something bad enough they will get it , is heard often when information
assurance is discussed. In fact, as one Information Security professional well knows, when a
defense is developed to stop the breach, the enemy exhausts all means to find another way to get to
the information/data or the golden nugget . This game of cat and mouse is no more omnipresent
than in the field of Risk Management. One of the many important tools used to fight the good fight
against nefarious groups is the Risk Assessment. The risk assessment application being developed
is no stranger to these cyber delinquents and is developed with a blend of the top recommendations
from the various agencies. The RAAPP will increase the feasibility of conducting a risk assessment;
thereby increasing the frequency risk assessments are conducted in order to fortify operations and
protect the golden nugget .
Discussion
Information security breach vulnerabilities are growing at a rapid rate with no end in sight. The
threat is migrating from financial, healthcare and business industries to the home as every new

Lady Or The Tiger Pdf
At the end of the story, The Lady or the Tiger, the man had a choice to pick which door. The
main question is which door did he pick? The one with the tiger that would lead to certain death
or the door that had the lady behind it in which he would have gotten married to. I believe the
princess lead him to opened the one with the tiger. Even though she would have had to watch
her lover die a painful death I don t think she could have bared to watch him be with another. One
other reason it leads me to believe she picked that one is because she was semi barbaric, like her
father. It even said in the story that she enjoyed watching them as much as he did. The princess
knew the game and knew that if she picked the one with the lady behind it they would be happily
married. In the beginning of the story it states on page 14, that she was just like her father. She
believes the way her father rules fair and the way he handles crimes that are committed. When
the games go on she sits in the box with her father and watches people get slaughtered or
married. Therefore, I think since she can t have her lover that she will send him to death. It says
in the story, She was well satisfied with her lover, even though she loved him so much she would
have rather him go wait for her in the other life. All of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

have picked the tiger but it also just made more since. She did love him, but I don t think she could

the door with the tiger. Therefore he died a painful death and would be waiting for her when she

Greek Mythology And Its Impact On Modern Society
Greek mythology has been passed down over many generations and has led to many great tales of
heroes and gods. One of these heroes was Odysseus. Although Odysseus is best known as a
warrior in the Trojan War, he is also known for leaving an impact on modern society and
committing acts of heroism.
Odysseus lived an exciting life full of adventure and hardship. Odysseus was the son of King
Laertes and Anticlea. While being educated by the centaur Chiron Odysseus showed many
characteristics of greatness including great strength and courage (Odysseus). One time he showed
this was during a hunting trip with his father and uncle during which he killed a wild boar thus
saving the adults he was with. When Odysseus was of age he was passed down the rule of Ithica,
also around this time he began to think of marriage. Like many other men of Greek mythology he
desired the hand of Helen, the beautiful daughter of King Tyndareus of Sparta (Odysseus). Even
though this was unlikely to happen due to the poorness of Ithica, Odysseus tried none the less.
When Odysseus went to Sparta as a suitor he displayed his cunning personality, for this he
quickly became famous. The King took notice of this and and accepted advice from him
concerning how he can be sure of Helen s safety. Odysseus advised Tyndareus to make all the
suitors swear an oath to protect Helen and the man she married (Odysseus). They all agreed and a
man named Menelaus became the husband of Helen. To show gratitude King

Comparison between Metropolis and Blade Runner
Comparison between Metropolis and Blade Runner
From the silent epic of Fritz Lang Metropolis 1927 to Ridley s Scott s spectacular Blade Runner
1982 the connection between architecture and film has always been intimate. The most apparent
concepts that connect these two films are the overall visuals of both films and their vision of city
of the future. The futuristic city of both Scott and Lang are distinct in their landscapes, geography,
and social structure. These two films sought to envision a future where technology was the basis by
which society functioned. Technology was the culture and the cities would crumble without it.
Metropolis and Blade Runner uses the themes relationships amongst female sexuality and male
vision, and technology. However, Gender roles and technology seems to be the most important part
in both films.
Blade Runner became a cult classic. The film may have survived long enough to benefit from a
renewed taste for darker, more violent sci fi. It s appeal has less to do with a fascination for outer
space (which does not feature beyond reference in a few lines of dialogue) than with a vision of
earth and humankind in the near future (Roberts and Wallis Pg 157 8). Both films have a timeless
quality to it, as they are representative of the future of our planet earth. I find it so interesting that
even though these films were made in different times their ideas about the futuristic city and society
are almost identical.
The futuristic aspect of these

My Writing By Nancy Sommers
Over the course of first semester in college I have learned how to read, write, and learn again.
That sentence may be hard to understand, since when getting to college you are already supposed
to know how, but it is true. Starting off with I Stand Here Writing by Nancy Sommers, I have
learned how to enhance my writing by using personal sources to combine personal and academic
writing. With the help of The Mindat Work by Mike Rose I got an example of how the teachings of
Sommers can be applied in writing. We ended the semester off with learninghow to read again. In
James Gee book Semiotic Domains: Is Playing Video Games a Waste of Time ? I got another
look at how to view literacy, which I was not aware that there was another way to look at.
Literacy should not be the ability to read and write but thought of as a semiotic domain. All that is
saying is that from what is written, categorizing the text to certain domain and producing and
adding meaning adds depth to what is written while we also get a better understanding as well.
Overall I have a gained an alternative perspective on learning and when experiencing new things,
changing your mindset will lead you to success in that domain. Learning is a hard thing to do in
some cases. It is never just an instructor teaching you that particular topic and learning it
automatically. Over time I realize there are quirks to think about when learning specific subjects.
For example in The Mind at Work, instead of finding research the

Nationalism And Perspectives Of People About Nation Can...
1.Ever wondered how nationalism and perspectives of people about nation can bring revolution in
the society?, First of all nationalism can be taken as both positive and negative ways. For instance,
being faithful to your country is acceptable but when you cross your limit in order to degrade
another race, culture or to show that you are the dominant one, that s when it becomes negative
and delivers a wrong message among other people. Phases of nationalism kept on changing as the
time passed in Europe. It all started in year 1800s and continued until World War II, where they
saw all negative and positive effects of nationalism. Starting from Abbe Sieyes who was with

He stated,
What is the third estate? Everything.
What has it been until now in the political order? Nothing.
What does it want? To become something. (Sieyes, Lualdi 113).
His statement give readers an idea of the situation of third estate and how ready they are to gain
a position in society. He believed that nation is a group of people living under same rules and
regulations carried out by the same legislature. Further, he stated that since third estate is
everything, they can claim to be part of the nation, who will follow same rules. The motive of
that nation would be to develop the individuals as the nation is made of them. Now coming onto
Mazzini who thought that upper classes always used the lower classes. He believed that people
in the society, people should say we and not I to reduce the possibilities of conflicts between
classes. Upper classes always used the word us to get their work done by the lower classes and
once they got their work done, they went back to showing their dominance and using I and
degrading the lower classes and make them feel like nothing. People should come together and
should concentrate both on society and individual growth as as a group of individuals will become
members of the society and, he stated that if right to existence is the first inviolable right of every
man, who shall demand the sacrifice of that existence for the benefit of another man Having equal

The Cult Of Mithras And The Roman Empire
We may think that that cult origin by the fact that was taken from relevant scholars, but the early
development has remained consistently disputed. The Cult of Mithras began in the first century
and it was invented by the Roman Empire. When we think about the first century AD, Christianity
is almost very invisible during this time. The cult of Mithras development is mysterious. This
religion is invented by the Italians. Mithras provides members with sense of salvation if they
proceed through the seven stages of initiation, because the important aspect of the cult is that they
must be successful, and have spiritual bonding with their gods. If they do not success, they will
face some consequences, but members who follow this path will be rewarded and be offered
compensation. In addition, archaeological findings show that the Cult of Mithras does stay the
same from the beginning of first century to the end of fourth century AD. Archaeological evidence
of the cult only depends on the materials that existed during Roman Empire. One of the most
important types of evidence that the archaeological record shows is the nature and form of where
these men worship, a Mithraeum . Much of this worship buildings can be found in parts of Europe
and they are mostly underground in a cave and are constructed below an existing building. The first

The Greco-Persian Wars
The division and unification of Greek city states could have come from many different things,
however war seems to be the common attribute. War is able to divide and unify societies,
cultures, and religions throughout the world. Separation is also a cause of war, for example, civil
wars have happened all around the world in order to break apart a governing body.
According to history.com, Athens and Sparta, both powerful Greek city states, fought as allies in
the Greco Persian Wars between 499 and 449 B.C. In the wake of the Persian retreat, however,
Athens grew more powerful and tensions rose, escalating into nearly three decades of war. In
many cases, differences or opposing ideas and beliefs bring the destruction of war. For example,

Bargaining power of suppliers: There are lots of farm in Brazil and South of American, so that
the bargaining power of suppliers is low in this industry and the buyers can compare and choose
the lower price and quality supplier (International Cocoa Organization, 2012). So, this is positive to
the business. Rivalry among established competitors: There are lots of companies around the world
for the confectionery industry that lead to this industry violent for the competition. So, this is
negative to the business. Bargaining power of buyers: According to the research, it showed that the
demand of chocolate confectionery industry had the potential for increasing, as the chocolate sales

Did you know that Roughly 1,264,000 American soldiers died in the civil war. That may seem
like a lot, and that s because it is. That makes it the most deadly war in American history. The war
started because the south was mad that Lincoln was to be president. This is because he was
going to outlaw slavery. This was bad for the southern states because if they got rid of slaves they
would have to find new ways to pick cotton and do other things like wash the dishes or make food

How The Amygdala s Emotional Function Can Affect Sufferers...
Review on How the Amygdala s Emotional Function can Affect Sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a relevant common mental disorder as it may affect
approximately 2 3% of the population at any point (Green, 2003). There are numerous literatures on
how a capacious amount of traumatic stress can affect the function of the brain, as the
remembrance of a traumatic experience can affect attention and memory in the present which may
lead to present day harm (Van der Kolk, 2006). Approximately thirty percent of individuals can
develop PTSD following a traumatic event, however, certain events have higher rates (such as
rape) (Acierno et al., 1999, cited in Elzinger and Bremner, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Johnson et al (2012) claims that the pathology of PTSD, is the natural response of threat reaction
is heightened and fails to decrease and thus becomes an issue to an individual s psychological and
physical well being. This follows on from Van der Kolk (2006) who stated that regions in the brain
that accesses the memory of an event also supports intense emotion which affects sensory and
motor functions within the Central Nervous System (CNS). This literature suggests that although
PTSD is classed as anxiety, it is the memory involvement in which causes the physical stress
reaction.
Praag (2004) theorised that a sufferer of PTSD cannot easily erase memories of a certain stressful
trauma. This follows on from Liberzon et al s (1999) study that the repetitious memory recall of a
traumatic episode is a symptom of PTSD. This dysfunction of Memory involves certain brain
regions, including the amygdaloidal complex and hippocampal formation. In Liberzon et al s study
on 11 control subjects and 14 combat veterans diagnosed with PTSD, placing them in stressful
situations using a single photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) machine found
activation in the left amygdala on the PTSD sufferers but not with the control subjects. This
suggests that the amygdala responds to unpleasant stimuli in individuals suffering with memories of
a past traumatic episode. Other brain imaging studies have found a link between encoding

Changing Structure of Watch Industry
SWISS WATCH MARKET
In 1970s the Swiss industry produced around 75 million units per year as compared to 25 million
units in 1940s.
Since 1966, when the Swiss Government s restriction on sale and acquisition of watch companies
lapsed, the industry experienced a crescendo of mergers, bringing down the number of firms to
around 1000.
In 1971, ASUAG , the super trust combined the assembling firms selling seven different brands into
the General WatchHolding Company. This move forged important new financial and managerial
links between the component manufacturing and assembling sectors of the watch industry.
By 1971 almost three quarters of all Swiss watch exports were accounted for by eight watch

manufacturing industry. In fact, only two U.S. watch companies, Bulova and Timex, were involved
in any domestic watch production.
Since the beginning, U.S. companies have struggled to cope with the labour requirements of
watchmaking.
Some U.S. watch sellers never tried; from the start imported finished watches or movements and
simply put them in watch cases here. Other firms tackled the problem by locating at least part of
their production overseas. Bulova and Gruen, for example, established their own manufacturing
plants in Switzerland in the early years of the 1980s.
After the Second World, jeweled lever watches dominated the U.S. market.
Then during the 1950s and early 1960s the situation changed drastically. Timex first stormed the
low price end of the watch market and later moved up into the middle price range. At the same
time marginal Swiss producers flooded the U.S. market with inexpensive pin lever and jeweled
lever watches making price competition all the more severe.
In 1960s the Japanese began to carve out their piece of the U.S. market. On top of this, the mass
merchandising revolution of the 1950s threw the traditional watch distribution system, sales
through jewelers and fine department stores, into chaos. To survive in a market dominated by price
competition, one after another U.S. watch company gave up on domestic watch manufacturing
until, by 1970 there were only two survivors Bulova and Timex.

The French Revolution And The Arab Spring
Throughout history many societies have, and will likely continue to have revolutions as we as
humans strive towards a utopian society. Each and every one of these revolution follows some
pattern, a pattern that most often includes a great number of civilian casualties. But what is it that
pushes such revolutions forward? Why have people risked and given their lives fighting against
their own leadership? Looking at both the French Revolutionand the Arab Spring can help uncover
the answer to these questions, as for people to willingly risk their lives, they must have been
living in destitute situations. Both of these societies did indeed have many social and economic
problems, as well as a poor quality of life, specifically for the bottom class, or in the case of the
French Revolution, the Third Estate. It is because of these issues that the people stood up to their
leaders and demanded a better life, overtaking the government in the process. Prior to the French
Revolution enlightenment thinkers such as Voltaire had been writing about equality and
individual freedoms. These ideas began to catch hold with the populous of France, who were
almost all living in very poor conditions. Perhaps the most important of these authors, in regards to
the French Revolution, was John Locke who talked about the idea of a decentralized government,
a system where the people represented the people; a democracy.1 The people of France began to
make a push for such equality, and in August of

they are most certainly competitors. They contain many of the same brands however they both

the Levi s department there was other garments and accessories other than jeans. The assortment
in JCPenny was clearly superior. Other than jeans they had long sleeves, graphic long sleeves,
flannels, winter jackets, denim jackets, socks, underwear, belts, and a variety of hats. Every
section was well stocked and had numerous different sizes. In addition every style was placed on

A study done by Dr. George Reeves (1942) showed that emotional states play an important role
in the quality of people s eating habits. He studies five obese white women. Dr. Reeves
concluded that (a) obesity was used at a defense mechanism (b) these patterns were sadistic and
masochistic (c) oral satisfaction extended beyond social acceptable forms and (d) obesity was
used to simulate a masculine ideal. This study was limited because he had only five cases of
women, and they were all the same race and around the same age. Hirsch and Morse (1960)
presented a study to relate emotions to obesity and establish correlations between metabolic
findings from the obese patients in their study. They brought 74 patients to the Victoria General
Hospital Outpatient Obesity Clinic. The patients were given a questionnaire that was oriented
around their obesity history. The material from the interview were reviewed for symptoms of
emotional distress such as depression, anxiety, delusions, etc. 27 of the 74 patients were judged to
have a diagnosable psychiatric disorder after the questionnaire was completed. This study however
was unreliable because there was no average weighted people to interview as a control, also the
people in the study were unprepared to think abstractly, so the physician guided them throughout
the questionnaire, which made the data unreliable. Collyer (1974) backed Reeves (1942)
conclusions that women may gain weight as a defense mechanism to protect

A Brief Note On Ecology And The Enviroment

SLE103 Ecology and the Enviroment

Ecosystem is a biological community of living organisms/biotic components (plants animals) and
non living/abiotic elements (sunlight, soil, air water) within a specific area, together forming a
complex system in which they interact and adversely affect depend on each other in one form or
another (food chain, mineral recycling, trophic flow).
It s extremely important to study ecosystems not only to better understand and the natural flow that
occurs within, but also help maintain and better understand biodiversity, learn how to sustain, aid

Method or how I observed the ecosystem was by randomly choosing 2 areas with in it and gradually
expanding my study area from 1 to 32 mВІ, carefully watching and noting down what I observed.
I did this by starting from surface equal to 1 mВІ then increasing it to 2, 4, 8 and 32 mВІ each time
marking the boundary with a yellow fluorescent string held up by four screwdrivers that also
acted as the four corners of the current quadrat correctly marked with a measuring tape and 90В°
angle. Each time I increased the surface are, I observed and noted down every different type of plant
and animal species, any present non living animal or plant materials, condition of the soil, different
types of foliage, interactions between the living non living components and interaction between
living organisms.
All the accumulated was put in to a data table, showing species richness for each quadrat and total
cumulative number of species and then represented with a graph.

Renaissance Vs Secularism
There are many similarities between the Renaissance era and the Middle Ages. The similarities are
set around the idea of utilizing both Christianity and secular ideas within their art, music and
literature. However, their difference are easily recognizable and definitely set them apart, despite
the fact that the time period overlaps in some cases. The differences that are shown between the
two reflect how the Renaissanceperiod really showed massive progression. Through looking at the
literature, and the way the genres developed; the music and how music became more universal and
the art, in how their new ideas became more personal, we will clearly see the differences between
the two time periods. When it comes to literature during the Middle... Show more content on

Their inspiration came from the gothic look, utilizing elegant refinement but also now utilizing
mixture of paints to create bold colors (Humanities, 280). For the Renaissance period however,
they brought back the idea of humanism, which consisted of creating nudes. Nudes were used in
a way to celebrate the beauty of the body and to give God glory for his creation. The only rule
they had to keep in mind while using nudes in their art was that they could only be created if
there was good reason, such as using a story from the bible (Messner 4 16 2018). It is clear to see
that they truly did still focus on the importance of Christianity in their

Online Social Networking Service Company
0.Facebook is an online social networking service company since 2004. It was started as the
online platform to be connected for ivy league university students and later extended to general
public. It has a market worth of $ 148 billion in 2014 and has more than 1 billion subscribers

The user data is used to deliver to highest bidder and earn revenue. 1.Facebook is collecting the
extensive personal information from its users. The information is in the form of personal details,
pictures and life events. The reason for turning the information into big databases is to serve
relevant advertising that suits the taste of a particular person. But, collecting the information to
generate revenue is the unethical practice in business and that is the biggest dilemma of
Facebook to earn revenue without privacy damage of the users as it provides free service. The
company faced various lawsuits for gathering user data without user consent. Even they keep the
track of the users visiting Facebook s widget on other websites by capturing time and IP address
information. It is not sure whether the company will stop finding alternative ways to exploit data
and selling it to highest bidders for advertising. The reason being the limited source of revenues
and failure of management to take care of privacy concerns. 2.Facebook s mainstream revenue is

Pauley Perrette Rhetorical Analysis
Pauley Perrette EPL
Pauley Perrette was one of the main stars of the television series NCIS. Pauley starred as the cast
member Abby Sciuto from the beginning of the series in 2003 until 2017 when she announced her
final series would be ending this year. After fourteen years as the shows forensic analyst, she is
moving on to progress in other aspects of acting and pressuring works for charities and civil rights
movements. However, Abby Sciuto or Pauley Perrette, has a very unique way of displaying
examples of ethos, pathos, and logos. For example, she uses a number of those techniques in her
works for homeless care, laws on stalking, and animal rights charity.
Pauley Perrette uses a large amount of pathos more often than ethos or logos. ... Show more content

was the spokesperson for a commercial through her local animal shelter Remember Me , in this
commercial sponsored by remember me, she holds her rescue dogs with love and affection as
holds all three and kisses each one in the video.
Pauley Perrette has a very unique way of using ethos within the video with 48 hours. With that
being said, she is very passionate in her works to change laws concerning stalking and the
process of prosecuting stalkers. During the course of the video it shows a clip of Pauley and
California Congressmen sitting in conversation discussing her views and changes that could be
made. For example, her tone changes and the video shifts into her efforts to change stalking
laws. There is a moment where Pauley is engaged with a group of women that were victims of
stalking. They were discussing how there could be changes to third party people who assist the
stalker and how those individuals should be prosecuted as well. She was very stern in her ways to
help begin to make a change with no signs of stopping till they we heard. That is the major
example of ethos from Pauley Perrette.
Throughout the series on television, Pauley Perrette might now have been the smartest acting but
her logical thinking in organizations and situations is very smart. In her video with 48 hours again,
she states that there should be a reform of stalking

Essay about On Delacroix and Courbet
On Delacroix and Courbet The period surrounding 1781 to 1855 in France s history is united by
social and political change, an evolution of ideological struggles towards the best possible political
struggle amongst anchoring human faults. The life of the artist too underwent change and
struggled with the hierarchy that existed to validate artistic triumph. Changes are apparent amongst
a broad spectrum, including David, Ingres, history paintings and caricatures. Artists that
demonstratively epitomize the shifts, overwhelmingly united by a shift from acceptance to
defiance, are Eugene Delacroix (1789 1863) and Gustave Courbet (1819 1877). Artistic and cultural
differences that developed are transparent through understanding... Show more content on

The Salon and its competitions dictated the motives of the artist. Delacroix s first winning painting
was Dante and Virgil in Hell (1822). This painting was indeed a success: the French believed
themselves to be a modern embodiment of the Classics, and Dante and Virgil reinforced this well
enough. The painting is deemed a revolution in itself. The colors blend together so much that the
painting is better understood from farther away than up close. Fans triumphed it s subject matter:
...romanticism will not consist in a perfect execution, but in a conception analogous to the ethical
disposition of the age. This painting, after the Divine Comedy, also embeds Delacroix in the literary
movement. This movement was vital to the overall organization of history painting, as a sharp
literary vocabulary of the painter was admired if not necessary. Delacroix has a fondness for
Dante and Shakespeare, two other great painters of human anguish. Delacroix concerned himself
with grand, tortured ideas. This literary fascination of Shakespeare, Bryon, Sir Walter Scott, etc.
can be seen as a departure from the classics into modernity even though it served as good
grounding for him. The way of Delacroix is a distinct, unique flair.
Although Delacroix was the youngest artist with works in the Louvre, his antagonistic paintings
would begin to receive more demanding criticism. Gros described one of his works as the
massacre of the painting. He depicted many scenes on

2.Describe the function of a compiler and interpreter.
ANS:
Each programming language uses a piece of software, called a compiler or an interpreter, to
translate your program code into machine language. Machine language is also called binary
language, and is represented as a series of 0s and 1s. The compiler or interpreter that translates
your code tells you if any programming language component has been used incorrectly. Syntax
errors are relatively easy to locate and correct because the compiler or interpreter you use
highlights every syntax error. If you write a computer program using a language such as C++ but
spell one of its words incorrectly or reverse the proper order of two words, the software lets you
know that it found a mistake by displaying an error message as soon as you try to translate the
program.

During the crisis, the primary concern of the organization is to influence the key public s attitudes
favorably. The way the public perceive the information regarding the organization may profoundly
affect their attitudes. According to this theory, the information will affect an individual s attitude
system based on its weight and valence. Valence reflects the perception of an individual of how bad
or good the information is. On the other hand, weight is the function of reliability. Here, the focus
is on the process and the way target audiences incorporate information and the way their attitudes
are affected by it. Practically, the information integration theory needs health care institutions to
consider both weight and valence when arranging for the information to be given to the public
during the crisis. It is critical to contextualize the information and enlighten the members of the
target audience the degree of the danger or risk presented by the risk to allow them (the target
audience) to judge the impact of risk accurately (Goodman, 2012, p.

Chapters 1 and 2 Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil...
Summary Essay of Amusing Ourselves to Death
This is a breakdown of Neil Postman s Amusing ourselves to death (1985), which must be written
to explain the effects that high volume of emails, text messages, video games, and internet
television has on the human race and the way we think. In the first chapter of the book The
Medium is the Metaphor Postman (1985) begins his argument that he presents through out the
book. Postman (1985) explains how knowledge is no longer gained from print, but from visual.
This change is dramatic and irreversibly and the two print and visual can not accommodate one
another. In chapter 2 Postman (1985) lays out a plan for the book. Postman (1985) rants and raves
about how television is evil and has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Backing up his attestations, he gives several examples. Native Americans communicating long
distances using smoke signals, they could likely not have had philosophical communication. The
limitations of the form affect what can be realistically communicated. As another example
President Taft was a fat man, one who would more than likely not be elected today because of his
appearance. However, in a world without television he would be elected due to his intelligence and
political arguments which held more clout than appearance. Postman s (1985) most important
example the news of the day could not exist without proper media to give it expression (p.7).
Even though corruption has always occurred amongst the human race, it was not as bearing on a
person s everyday life until media made it possible for them to be communicated at a faster pace. In
this chapter Postman explains how we have turned from the Age of Typography to the Age of
Television and how the young require all communication to be in the form of entertainment (p.8).
He implies that our form of speaking works through media metaphors which do not tell us what the
world is like, but instead tells us what it is like without telling us anything. They limit and regulate
what the world must be (p.10).
Postman (1985) then speaks about the clock and how it serves as a metaphor for the way we look
at the world, moments turning into other moments. The clock serves as a conversation man has

Disruption Of Natural Order In Macbeth
The Significance Of Setting Of Macbeth In The Disruption of The Sacred Natural Order
Today, we rely on a contextualization of most things in order to make sense of them. The plot,
and the theme of a play are better appreciated when we are clear and informed about the play s
setting. Knowing when and where the play or event takes place, is the key to truly understanding
that play or event. The time and place helps us to understand what the play is all about and it s true
meaning. This concept relates to William Shakespeare s classic tragedy Macbeth, as knowledge of
the setting helps us to better understand Macbeth s character and his actions. Set in the year 1050 in
northern Scotland, the time and place heavily reflect the Medieval period ... Show more content on

Through the cultural context of the play, this play has links to Early Modern England.
Historically, Macbeth ruled Scotland as the king for 17 years from 1040 to 1057. However, the
accounts in this Scottish Period vary. Furthermore, scholars agree that Macbeth gained the
throne by killing King Duncan and lost the throne to his son Malcolm by being killed.
Shakespeare heavily searched for these types of histories as well as other sources in the structure
of the play. More specifically, he used Raphael Holinshed s Chronicles of England, Scotland, and
Ireland published in 1587 but he may have been familiar with George Buchanan s Rerum
Scoticarum Historae published a few years back in 1582. Both of these scholars were historians
that mainly covered the subject of Macbeth. Moreover, William Shakespeare deviates from these
historical sources in his exploration of the main themes of kingship, human nature, and evil. These
alterations to the story include portraying the tragic hero as an evil person and portraying Banquo
as a sympathetic character. As an example, Holinshed and Shakespeare s illustrations of Duncan is
different. Duncan historically, is described as a young, weak, and an ineffective king. On the other
hand, William Shakespeare s vision for Duncan is an older, benevolent, influential, and virtuous
king, whose murder

Japanese and Chinese Immigration and Exclusionary Immigration Policies
Anti immigrant driven exclusive immigration policies barred Japanese and Chinese immigrants
from immigrating to the United States and accessing the privileges of citizenship. Through the
Immigration Acts of 1917, 1921, and 1924, the US government insured that Japanese and Chinese
immigrants could not immigrate to the United States by creating an artificial geographic area or

Despite their initial economic adversity, German and Italian immigrants accessed more privileges

Reconciling the Paradox of US Immigration
Despite the radicalized economic, social, and political dimensions of US immigration,
policymakers like President Obama continue to sustain a singular view of US immigration that I
have argued is oriented around a white and European immigration experience. By revealing how
Chinese, Japanese, Italian and German immigrants have faced economic, social, and political
adversities, I have disproved President Obama s claim that the United States has been a beacon to
the world to these immigrant groups. President Obama s claim is particularly problematic because
it highlights how the paradox of immigration has diminished the severity and scope of United States

I am now going to write about the characters in Saki?s stories. Each story contains an Aunt, who

Story Teller?. He is different to the rest of the adults in the early stories because he tells the
children a story about a young girl is
?horribly good?. The concept of someone been horribly good is alien to
Edwardian society. Furthermore in the same story he also mentions that the girl who is ?horribly
good? gets killed by a wolf. This is another idea that would not have been thought possible to
happen in Edwardian society, because they believed that you can never be too good. Saki has
invented the character of the Bachelor in order to help him to ridicule Edwardian society. An
example of the Bachelor ridiculing
Edwardian society is

Essay on The Role of the Chorus in Ancient Greek Tragedies
The chorus s perspective of justice works differently in Euripides Medea and Aeschylus The
Libation Bearers. In both The Libation Bearers and Medea, the driving force of vengeance links
the chorus to each of the play s protagonists. For both plays, the choruses begin with a strong
support of their heroes with a belief that the course of action that those characters are pursuing for
the sake of avenging the wrongs done to them or their families is just and right. The chorus of
Medea, however, moves away from that original conviction in the moral justification of revenge.
Over the course of The Libation Bearers, the chorus also begins to express doubt in the validity of
the true value in the cycle of deaths that the system of revenge... Show more content on

The chorus supports Orestes revenge against his mother Clytemnestra for killing his father
primarily because a successful outcome of an action against Clytemnestra and Aegisthus would
eliminate some of their cause for suffering. However, Orestes revenge against his mother and
Aegisthus also meets the justice of the law of retribution, which the chorus defines: Justice turns the
wheel.
Word for word, curse for curse be born now, Justice thunders, hungry for retribution,
stroke for bloody stroke be paid. The one who acts must suffer. (Libation Bearers 192)
The law of retribution describes true justice as revenge, without very much in the way of logical
moderation or consideration. This concept of justice shows the reasoning of Medea s actions. By
this system, the pain that Jason s betrayal gave her necessarily must be repaid by an equal or
greater pain that Medea would inflict on Jason.
The chorus of both The Libation Bearers and Medea experience similar shifts in perspective once
their protagonists have properly decided to take action against those characters who have wronged
them in some manner. Directly following the prayers of Orestes and Electra in The Libation
Bearers, the chorus says, The flesh crawls to hear them pray./ The hour of doom has waited long
(Libation Bearers 197), clearly showing that the chorus, despite having urged Orestes on in taking

Defies Reason through Faith Essay
Defies Reason through Faith
St. Anthony was born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1195 A.D. He wanted to live his life above himself
as to give meaning to his own life. St. Anthony chose to become a member of the Congregation of
Canons Regular of St. Augustine at the age of fifteen. At the congregation, he dedicated his life to
the practice of piety in the Monastery at Coimbra. While in the congregation, some of his fellow
friars went to Morocco to preach the Gospel of Christ. In Morocco, the friars were brutally tortured
for their faith. Christian merchants consummated in recovering the friars remains and returned in
mastery back to Coimbra. When they returned, St. Anthony was seized with an unwavering desire

Anthony spoke those words the dead man arose from his coffin. The man was alive again and
wrapped his arms around his parents, and they were very grateful for what St. Anthony had done for
them. St. Anthony showed his faith in God by defying the fact the man was dead and bringing him
back to life.4 Many people heard about all the miracles that St. Anthony was doing. A woman
was returning home from one of St. Anthony s sermons found her child dead in his cradle. She
was in such great grief not knowing what to do when the great Wonder worker came across her
mind. The woman went to him with certainty and told him that her son was dead. She asked him
to have sympathy for a mother s tears. St. Anthony told her to go back home and that God had
answered her prayers. Believing what he had told her, she went home and found her child not only
alive, but well and playing with marbles. Anthony dispersed so many miracles and Divine favours
that people called him The Sower of Miracles. 5 Anthony had finished his Commentary on the
Psalms, during a time of observation and meditation. After the strenuous religious life and its
constant severity, he was determined to return to regular life. He finished his manuscript and fled. A
young scoundrel stole a copy of St. Anthony s manuscript, most likely hoping to

My Statement Of Purpose For Learning English
Statement of Purpose
One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way. Franck
Smith
My interest in learning English is due to the fact that I have always liked to challenge myself.
Even though many of my friends and family warned me from majoring in English, as it would
be difficult for me, I have accepted the challenge. I have always felt that learning English would
increase myself confidence and have people around me impressed. This interest has also grown
through my passion in learning about languages, cultures, and traditions. Where I come from,
Saudi Arabia, a big number of people came from different countries and spoke different
languages. I have realized that English could be a means to interact with a lot of people speaking
different languages. I have also realized that English is the lingua franca of today s world with no

and discovery never ends in academia. Not mention, my high GPA which made me eligible for
teaching assistant positions. Therefore, I had focused on applying for jobs at universities, colleges,

The Invention Of The First American History
When you think of the First American , who do you think of? Do you think of a pilgrim or a Native
American? Do you think of Benjamin Franklin? Probably not, but he has been graciously granted
with this very title. Franklin is a large part of American history. A renowned polymath, he held
many occupations including; an author, printer, politician, scientist, inventor, civic activist and
more! All throughout history there have been a plethora of inspirational, hardworking, intelligent,
life changing personages, one of them being Benjamin Franklin. He changed not only the world,

Franklin proved that lighting was electricity and his discovery led to our world, starting with
America, being more scientifically informed. One of the most courageous acts of mankind in this
world is fire fighting. Not many people may know this, but Benjamin Franklin was the founding
father of firefighting. In 1736, Franklin proposed volunteer fire companies that would gather men
quickly to extinguish a blaze. (Gausted 35) After a huge Philadelphia fire, Franklin founded
Philadelphia s first fire company the Union Fire Company, the very first fire department.
Franklin stated I sought to explain what caused them and how one could prevent such fires in
the future (McCormick 151) Franklin was very interested in learning more about the situation
and was concerned about the health and safety of everyone affected. Without his idea it would
have been long before actual fire companies were started. Before there were fireplaces, there
were fire places, where people would simply huddle together around a fire in their homes for
warmth. Then came Benjamin Franklin and invented the metal lined fireplace. Franklin had a
spurred interest in improving heating systems. At first people didn t have chimneys, they simply
made a fire and sat around it. It did people little good to huddle by a fire, he argued, if currents of
cold air then buffeted them. Many colds are caught that way. Franklin lectured it would be safer to
sit in the open street.

Cultural Traditions And Beliefs Into Their Classrooms
The three people I interviewed are all first year teachers, in their early 20 s, white, and teach in a

Looking over their answers now, I wonder if it s because they all went to the same college, are
close in age, and are first year teachers. I m curious how someone in their 30 s or 40 s would
respond to these questions. Some common themes I found while interviewing these individuals is
that all go back and forth between promoting diversity and unity. I think it narrows down to what
the situation is. All individuals support and incorporate various cultural traditions and beliefs into

Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs created by Abraham Maslow is a structural pyramid progression of
physical and psychological needs. From the bottom, the hierarchy includes; physiological, safety,
belonging, self esteem and self actualization. In order to get onto the next level of the pyramid,
one must fulfill all of the factors of the step below. In the novel Frankenstein the author, Mary
Shelly displays many of the character s progression. One of them is a creature that the protagonist,
Victor Frankenstein creates because of his love of science and anatomy. The creature is bought

Dantes Inferno.
Imperfect Punishments
Imagine a place where tyrants stand up to their ears in boiling blood, the gluttonous experience
monsoons of human filth, and those who commit sins of the flesh are blown about like pieces of
paper in a never ending wind storm. Welcome to Dante s Inferno, his perspective on the appropriate
punishments for those who are destined to hell for all eternity. Dante attempts to make the
punishments fit the crimes, but because it is Dante dealing out the tortures and not God, the
punishments will never be perfect because by nature, man is an imperfect creature. Only God is
capable of being above reproach and of metering out a just punishment. While Dante s treatment
towards the tyrants is fitting, his views on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being constantly stung by wasps and forced to chase a white flag would be mentally and
physically exhausting and seems to be a torture straight out of hell... yet they aren t even technically
in hell. On the other hand, in Limbo one merely walks around and talks to other luckless souls,
which does not seem to be a punishment constant with what other sinners face in hell. Dante
correctly assigned the right punishments to each group of sinners, but he misplaced both groups.
Limbo should be outside of Hell because they did not have the knowledge of either Heaven or Hell.
The Ante Inferno should be the first level of Hell, reserved for those who knew about Heaven and
Hell, choose neither side, and now must face the fact that by their indecision, are bound to suffer in
Hell.
While Dante may have geographically misplaced these two groups of sinners, he did correctly
punish most of the sinners in Hell. For example, the river of blood in which boils everyone
/ Whose violence hurt others (Canto XII 41 42) describes the perfect punishment for those who
were violent while they were alive. The degree of the violence committed also factors into the
punishment. Tyrants who slaughtered many people are completely covered in boiling blood, while
those who were violent against only a few suffer with blood up to their torsos. This is the perfect
punishment because violence is a crime of

New York City Public Transportation System
Beginning in June of 1952, when the Metropolitan Transportation Authority was founded, advances
in transportation in New York City have improved the city s developing economy and have
benefitted people to a great extent. Located in the heart of Manhattan, the MTA headquarters are
home to hundreds of different vehicles, ridden by thousands daily. The train tracks and bus routes
run through Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and the Bronx, unifying all five
boroughs and improving the lives of everyone Beginning at $0.05 and going up to $2.50, one
way bus fare has slowly been increasing since the MTA was founded. Although the cost depends
mainly on how far the vehicle is traveling, this is the standard expense and the difference is
significant. This cost is beneficial to travellers because it is inexpensive, and convenient for day to
day use.
Along with convenience, there are multiple economic benefits to using New York Citypublic
transportation. Pollution can become less of a problem, because travellers aren t taking
individual cars throughout the state. The system is reliable for workers and travellers, making
New York City a busy tourist area. The schedules are clearly posted, along with dozens of
different times of the day to make travelling less of a hassle. There is arguably less stress on the
commuter about traffic on the streets and less worrying about time since the transportation system
is reliable. The problem of finding a place to park on the busy

The Usa Patriot Act And The Homeland Security Act
September 11, 2001 is a date that will live on forever in American history, much like the date of
December 7, 1941. As President Franklin D. Roosevelt stated it is a date, which will live in
infamy. The fear and the need to protect the country and its citizens from future terrorist attacks
resulted in the U.S. Government to enact two different policies. The Uniting and Strengthening
America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorist Act (also
known as the USA PATRIOT Act) and the Homeland Security Act. Many individual feel that
these two policies have infringed the rights of the American people, while others believe that
these infringements are a necessity to ensure the safety of the people. This paper will explore if in
fact these two policies are unreasonably and unjustly infringing on the rights of the American
People, and how it effect the social justice system in America The USA PATRIOT Act was signed
into law October 26, 2001, a little more then a month after the horrific attacks of 9/11; the
Homeland Security Act was signed into law thirteen months later on November 25, 2002. The
purpose of the USA PATRIOT ACT was to create the process that the Government and its
organizations uses to investigate terrorists that are currently living within the Unites States borders
and abroad. The Homeland Security Act was created to consolidate over 20 different federal

She is sharp tongued, quick tempered, and prone to violence, particularly against anyone who tries
to marry her. Her hostility toward suitors particularly distresses her father.
But her anger and rudeness disguise her deep seated sense of insecurity and her jealousy toward her
sister, Bianca.
She does not resist her suitor Petruccio forever, though, and she eventually subjugates herself to
him, despite her previous repudiation of marriage.
Widely reputed throughout Padua to be a shrew, Katherine is foul tempered and sharp tongued at
the start of the play. She constantly insults and degrades the men around her, and she is prone to
wild displays of anger, during which she may physically attack whomever enrages her. Though
most of the play s characters simply believe Katherine to be inherently ill tempered, it is certainly
plausible to think that her unpleasant behavior stems from unhappiness. She may act like a shrew
because she is miserable and desperate. There are many possible sources of Katherine s
unhappiness: she expresses jealousy about her father s treatment of her sister, but her anxiety may

  • 2. The Essence Of The Debate The Essence of the Debate Divine Election according to Calvin One of the most valuable key sources of information on the subject of divine election is John Calvin s Institutes of the Christian Religion. He began weaving doctrinal revelation and explanation together in 1536 and finished the text in 1559. The initial composed manuscript presented comprehensive perspectives aligning with the four points of the Apostle s creed. As time passed, Calvin decided to instruct readers in the rudiments of Christianity and offer a clear confession by which the French king could judge Reformation s supposed heresy. The twenty first chapter of the third book of this work offered his understanding on the subject of divine election. The first line of this section explains the covenant of life is not preached to all, and among those to whom it is preached, does not always meet with the same reception . God has chosen, according to his mere pleasure, to spontaneously offer salvation to some and destruction to others. Although much scriptural evidence exists supporting this understanding, this revelation remains a mystery. Paul s declaration in the Book of Romans suggests divine election cannot be known unless God, throwing works entirely out of view, elect those whom he has predestined . Hence, individuals need to remember that this subject of predestination is hidden in the recesses of divine wisdom. All are not born on the same terms; some are destined for eternal life and others ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Government Intervention In The Market System Discuss the case for and against government intervention in an economy. In most of the countries, the government has intervened in the market system. To some extent there is a dire need of government intervention in the market system, although there is a debate over this point among the economists. Many economists believe that the role of government intervention improves the market system. The government can easily enforce the rules that can help in the smooth functioning of the market system. On the other hand, there are economists who believe that government interventions in a market system are the reason of inefficiency in the system. There are some goods that underprovided and underconsumed. Such goods are cold merit goods. They can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Information failure occurs when people have inaccurate, incomplete, uncertain or misunderstood data and so make potentially wrong choices. Government action can have a role in improving information to help consumers and producers value the true cost and/or benefit of a good or service. Examples might include: * Compulsory labeling on cigarette packages with health warnings to reduce smoking * Improved nutritional information on foods to counter the risks of growing obesity * Anti speeding television advertising to reduce road accidents and advertising campaigns to raise awareness of the risks of drink driving * Advertising health screening programmes / information campaigns on the dangers of addiction Another advantage of government intervention is the national minimum wage. The national minimum wage was introduced into the UK in 1999. It is an intervention in the labour market designed to increase the pay of lower paid workers and thereby influence the distribution of income in society. In October 2005, the value of the minimum wage for adults was ВЈ5.05 following a series of small increases over recent years. The main aims of the minimum wage 1. The equity justification: That every job should offer a fair rate of pay commensurate with the skills and experience of an employee 2. • 5. Research And Development Of A Mobile Web Application Research and Development of a Mobile Web Application For Conducting Risk Assessments Stephen J. Donnellon Walsh College of Accountancy and Business Abstract The information age has brought with it the need to secure computer networks against unauthorized access, data manipulation and identification protection. There is no such thing as 100% secure or if an attacker wants something bad enough they will get it , is heard often when information assurance is discussed. In fact, as one Information Security professional well knows, when a defense is developed to stop the breach, the enemy exhausts all means to find another way to get to the information/data or the golden nugget . This game of cat and mouse is no more omnipresent than in the field of Risk Management. One of the many important tools used to fight the good fight against nefarious groups is the Risk Assessment. The risk assessment application being developed is no stranger to these cyber delinquents and is developed with a blend of the top recommendations from the various agencies. • 6. Lady Or The Tiger Pdf At the end of the story, The Lady or the Tiger, the man had a choice to pick which door. The main question is which door did he pick? The one with the tiger that would lead to certain death or the door that had the lady behind it in which he would have gotten married to. I believe the princess lead him to opened the one with the tiger. Even though she would have had to watch her lover die a painful death I don t think she could have bared to watch him be with another. One other reason it leads me to believe she picked that one is because she was semi barbaric, like her father. It even said in the story that she enjoyed watching them as much as he did. The princess knew the game and knew that if she picked the one with the lady behind it they would be happily married. In the beginning of the story it states on page 14, that she was just like her father. She believes the way her father rules fair and the way he handles crimes that are committed. When the games go on she sits in the box with her father and watches people get slaughtered or married. Therefore, I think since she can t have her lover that she will send him to death. It says in the story, She was well satisfied with her lover, even though she loved him so much she would have rather him go wait for her in the other life. All of... • 7. Greek Mythology And Its Impact On Modern Society Greek mythology has been passed down over many generations and has led to many great tales of heroes and gods. One of these heroes was Odysseus. Although Odysseus is best known as a warrior in the Trojan War, he is also known for leaving an impact on modern society and committing acts of heroism. Odysseus lived an exciting life full of adventure and hardship. Odysseus was the son of King Laertes and Anticlea. While being educated by the centaur Chiron Odysseus showed many characteristics of greatness including great strength and courage (Odysseus). One time he showed this was during a hunting trip with his father and uncle during which he killed a wild boar thus saving the adults he was with. When Odysseus was of age he was passed down the rule of Ithica, also around this time he began to think of marriage. Like many other men of Greek mythology he desired the hand of Helen, the beautiful daughter of King Tyndareus of Sparta (Odysseus). Even though this was unlikely to happen due to the poorness of Ithica, Odysseus tried none the less. When Odysseus went to Sparta as a suitor he displayed his cunning personality, for this he quickly became famous. The King took notice of this and and accepted advice from him concerning how he can be sure of Helen s safety. Odysseus advised Tyndareus to make all the suitors swear an oath to protect Helen and the man she married (Odysseus). They all agreed and a man named Menelaus became the husband of Helen. • 8. Comparison between Metropolis and Blade Runner Comparison between Metropolis and Blade Runner From the silent epic of Fritz Lang Metropolis 1927 to Ridley s Scott s spectacular Blade Runner 1982 the connection between architecture and film has always been intimate. The most apparent concepts that connect these two films are the overall visuals of both films and their vision of city of the future. The futuristic city of both Scott and Lang are distinct in their landscapes, geography, and social structure. These two films sought to envision a future where technology was the basis by which society functioned. Technology was the culture and the cities would crumble without it. Metropolis and Blade Runner uses the themes relationships amongst female sexuality and male vision, and technology. However, Gender roles and technology seems to be the most important part in both films. Blade Runner became a cult classic. The film may have survived long enough to benefit from a renewed taste for darker, more violent sci fi. It s appeal has less to do with a fascination for outer space (which does not feature beyond reference in a few lines of dialogue) than with a vision of earth and humankind in the near future (Roberts and Wallis Pg 157 8). Both films have a timeless quality to it, as they are representative of the future of our planet earth. I find it so interesting that even though these films were made in different times their ideas about the futuristic city and society are almost identical. The futuristic aspect of these ... • 9. My Writing By Nancy Sommers Over the course of first semester in college I have learned how to read, write, and learn again. That sentence may be hard to understand, since when getting to college you are already supposed to know how, but it is true. Starting off with I Stand Here Writing by Nancy Sommers, I have learned how to enhance my writing by using personal sources to combine personal and academic writing. With the help of The Mindat Work by Mike Rose I got an example of how the teachings of Sommers can be applied in writing. We ended the semester off with learninghow to read again. In James Gee book Semiotic Domains: Is Playing Video Games a Waste of Time ? I got another look at how to view literacy, which I was not aware that there was another way to look at. Literacy should not be the ability to read and write but thought of as a semiotic domain. All that is saying is that from what is written, categorizing the text to certain domain and producing and adding meaning adds depth to what is written while we also get a better understanding as well. Overall I have a gained an alternative perspective on learning and when experiencing new things, changing your mindset will lead you to success in that domain. Learning is a hard thing to do in some cases. It is never just an instructor teaching you that particular topic and learning it automatically. Over time I realize there are quirks to think about when learning specific subjects. For example in The Mind at Work, instead of finding research the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Nationalism And Perspectives Of People About Nation Can... 1.Ever wondered how nationalism and perspectives of people about nation can bring revolution in the society?, First of all nationalism can be taken as both positive and negative ways. For instance, being faithful to your country is acceptable but when you cross your limit in order to degrade another race, culture or to show that you are the dominant one, that s when it becomes negative and delivers a wrong message among other people. Phases of nationalism kept on changing as the time passed in Europe. It all started in year 1800s and continued until World War II, where they saw all negative and positive effects of nationalism. Starting from Abbe Sieyes who was with Third Estate(Third estate were all those people who weren t a clergy or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He stated, What is the third estate? Everything. What has it been until now in the political order? Nothing. What does it want? To become something. (Sieyes, Lualdi 113). His statement give readers an idea of the situation of third estate and how ready they are to gain a position in society. He believed that nation is a group of people living under same rules and regulations carried out by the same legislature. Further, he stated that since third estate is everything, they can claim to be part of the nation, who will follow same rules. The motive of that nation would be to develop the individuals as the nation is made of them. Now coming onto Mazzini who thought that upper classes always used the lower classes. He believed that people in the society, people should say we and not I to reduce the possibilities of conflicts between classes. Upper classes always used the word us to get their work done by the lower classes and once they got their work done, they went back to showing their dominance and using I and degrading the lower classes and make them feel like nothing. People should come together and should concentrate both on society and individual growth as as a group of individuals will become members of the society and, he stated that if right to existence is the first inviolable right of every man, who shall demand the sacrifice of that existence for the benefit of another man Having equal ... The Cult of Mithras began in the first century and it was invented by the Roman Empire. When we think about the first century AD, Christianity is almost very invisible during this time. The cult of Mithras development is mysterious. This religion is invented by the Italians. Mithras provides members with sense of salvation if they proceed through the seven stages of initiation, because the important aspect of the cult is that they must be successful, and have spiritual bonding with their gods. If they do not success, they will face some consequences, but members who follow this path will be rewarded and be offered compensation. In addition, archaeological findings show that the Cult of Mithras does stay the same from the beginning of first century to the end of fourth century AD. Archaeological evidence of the cult only depends on the materials that existed during Roman Empire. One of the most important types of evidence that the archaeological record shows is the nature and form of where these men worship, a Mithraeum . Much of this worship buildings can be found in parts of Europe and they are mostly underground in a cave and are constructed below an existing building. The first Mithraea and written first appear at the same point in time, and clearly form part of the same cult even though they are found in geographically ... War is able to divide and unify societies, cultures, and religions throughout the world. Separation is also a cause of war, for example, civil wars have happened all around the world in order to break apart a governing body. According to history.com, Athens and Sparta, both powerful Greek city states, fought as allies in the Greco Persian Wars between 499 and 449 B.C. In the wake of the Persian retreat, however, Athens grew more powerful and tensions rose, escalating into nearly three decades of war. That makes it the most deadly war in American history. The war started because the south was mad that Lincoln was to be president. This is because he was going to outlaw slavery. This was bad for the southern states because if they got rid of slaves they would have to find new ways to pick cotton and do other things like wash the dishes or make food for the master. Review on How the Amygdala s Emotional Function can Affect Sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a relevant common mental disorder as it may affect approximately 2 3% of the population at any point (Green, 2003). There are numerous literatures on how a capacious amount of traumatic stress can affect the function of the brain, as the remembrance of a traumatic experience can affect attention and memory in the present which may lead to present day harm (Van der Kolk, 2006). Approximately thirty percent of individuals can develop PTSD following a traumatic event, however, certain events have higher rates (such as rape) (Acierno et al., 1999, cited in Elzinger and Bremner, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Johnson et al (2012) claims that the pathology of PTSD, is the natural response of threat reaction is heightened and fails to decrease and thus becomes an issue to an individual s psychological and physical well being. This follows on from Van der Kolk (2006) who stated that regions in the brain that accesses the memory of an event also supports intense emotion which affects sensory and motor functions within the Central Nervous System (CNS). This literature suggests that although PTSD is classed as anxiety, it is the memory involvement in which causes the physical stress reaction. Praag (2004) theorised that a sufferer of PTSD cannot easily erase memories of a certain stressful trauma. This follows on from Liberzon et al s (1999) study that the repetitious memory recall of a traumatic episode is a symptom of PTSD. This dysfunction of Memory involves certain brain regions, including the amygdaloidal complex and hippocampal formation. In Liberzon et al s study on 11 control subjects and 14 combat veterans diagnosed with PTSD, placing them in stressful situations using a single photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) machine found activation in the left amygdala on the PTSD sufferers but not with the control subjects. This suggests that the amygdala responds to unpleasant stimuli in individuals suffering with memories of a past traumatic episode. Other brain imaging studies have found a link between encoding ... In fact, only two U.S. watch companies, Bulova and Timex, were involved in any domestic watch production. Since the beginning, U.S. companies have struggled to cope with the labour requirements of watchmaking. Some U.S. watch sellers never tried; from the start imported finished watches or movements and simply put them in watch cases here. Other firms tackled the problem by locating at least part of their production overseas. Bulova and Gruen, for example, established their own manufacturing plants in Switzerland in the early years of the 1980s. After the Second World, jeweled lever watches dominated the U.S. market. Then during the 1950s and early 1960s the situation changed drastically. Timex first stormed the low price end of the watch market and later moved up into the middle price range. At the same time marginal Swiss producers flooded the U.S. market with inexpensive pin lever and jeweled lever watches making price competition all the more severe. In 1960s the Japanese began to carve out their piece of the U.S. market. On top of this, the mass merchandising revolution of the 1950s threw the traditional watch distribution system, sales through jewelers and fine department stores, into chaos. • 19. The French Revolution And The Arab Spring Throughout history many societies have, and will likely continue to have revolutions as we as humans strive towards a utopian society. Each and every one of these revolution follows some pattern, a pattern that most often includes a great number of civilian casualties. But what is it that pushes such revolutions forward? Why have people risked and given their lives fighting against their own leadership? Looking at both the French Revolutionand the Arab Spring can help uncover the answer to these questions, as for people to willingly risk their lives, they must have been living in destitute situations. Both of these societies did indeed have many social and economic problems, as well as a poor quality of life, specifically for the bottom class, or in the case of the French Revolution, the Third Estate. It is because of these issues that the people stood up to their leaders and demanded a better life, overtaking the government in the process. Prior to the French Revolution enlightenment thinkers such as Voltaire had been writing about equality and individual freedoms. These ideas began to catch hold with the populous of France, who were almost all living in very poor conditions. Perhaps the most important of these authors, in regards to the French Revolution, was John Locke who talked about the idea of a decentralized government, a system where the people represented the people; a democracy.1 The people of France began to make a push for such equality, and in August of ... Dr. Reeves concluded that (a) obesity was used at a defense mechanism (b) these patterns were sadistic and masochistic (c) oral satisfaction extended beyond social acceptable forms and (d) obesity was used to simulate a masculine ideal. This study was limited because he had only five cases of women, and they were all the same race and around the same age. Hirsch and Morse (1960) presented a study to relate emotions to obesity and establish correlations between metabolic findings from the obese patients in their study. They brought 74 patients to the Victoria General Hospital Outpatient Obesity Clinic. The patients were given a questionnaire that was oriented around their obesity history. The material from the interview were reviewed for symptoms of emotional distress such as depression, anxiety, delusions, etc. 27 of the 74 patients were judged to have a diagnosable psychiatric disorder after the questionnaire was completed. Disruption Of Natural Order In Macbeth The Significance Of Setting Of Macbeth In The Disruption of The Sacred Natural Order Today, we rely on a contextualization of most things in order to make sense of them. The plot, and the theme of a play are better appreciated when we are clear and informed about the play s setting. Knowing when and where the play or event takes place, is the key to truly understanding that play or event. The time and place helps us to understand what the play is all about and it s true meaning. This concept relates to William Shakespeare s classic tragedy Macbeth, as knowledge of the setting helps us to better understand Macbeth s character and his actions. Set in the year 1050 in northern Scotland, the time and place heavily reflect the Medieval period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the cultural context of the play, this play has links to Early Modern England. Historically, Macbeth ruled Scotland as the king for 17 years from 1040 to 1057. However, the accounts in this Scottish Period vary. Furthermore, scholars agree that Macbeth gained the throne by killing King Duncan and lost the throne to his son Malcolm by being killed. Shakespeare heavily searched for these types of histories as well as other sources in the structure of the play. More specifically, he used Raphael Holinshed s Chronicles of England, Scotland, and Ireland published in 1587 but he may have been familiar with George Buchanan s Rerum Scoticarum Historae published a few years back in 1582. Both of these scholars were historians that mainly covered the subject of Macbeth. Moreover, William Shakespeare deviates from these historical sources in his exploration of the main themes of kingship, human nature, and evil. These alterations to the story include portraying the tragic hero as an evil person and portraying Banquo as a sympathetic character. As an example, Holinshed and Shakespeare s illustrations of Duncan is different. Duncan historically, is described as a young, weak, and an ineffective king. On the other hand, William Shakespeare s vision for Duncan is an older, benevolent, influential, and virtuous king, whose murder ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through the Immigration Acts of 1917, 1921, and 1924, the US government insured that Japanese and Chinese immigrants could not immigrate to the United States by creating an artificial geographic area or Asiatic Barred Zone that denied entry to any immigrants who migrated from this area most likely Chinese or Japanese (Lee 2003, 39). Saki s Stories and the Impression they Create about Adult Child Relationships In order to answer this question I am going to be focusing on three of Saki?s stories; the story teller, the lumber room and the open window. Children at the time Hector Munro (Saki) was writing these stories would have had very vivid imagination; this is shown in Saki s story The Open Window when the niece makes up the saga of Mr Sappleton s death, illustrates how imaginative children can be, and that adults are very easily fooled. Fooling adults is a key theme in Saki s stories; another time when it occurs is in the story The Lumber Room when Nicholas dupes his aunt into believing that he is somehow trying to get into the gooseberry garden, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is shown in Saki?s story ?The Open Window? when the Mr Nuttel believes the nieces story because he has no reason to think that a fifteen year old girl has any reason to lie, especially about something as horrible as death. Again these also relates to the theme of children being able to fool adults, because they are seen as innocent. I am now going to write about the characters in Saki?s stories. Each story contains an Aunt, who is perceived a strict and a person who follows the rules of Edwardian society very closely, and children, who tend to break the regulations that Edwardian society has, and by some other characters, like the Batchelor in the story ?The Story Teller? and Mr Nuttel in the story ?The Open Window? Firstly I am going to concentrate on the Bachelor in ?The Story Teller?. He is different to the rest of the adults in the early stories because he tells the children a story about a young girl is ?horribly good?. The concept of someone been horribly good is alien to Edwardian society. Furthermore in the same story he also mentions that the girl who is ?horribly good? gets killed by a wolf. This is another idea that would not have been thought possible to happen in Edwardian society, because they believed that you can never be too good. • 42. Essay on The Role of the Chorus in Ancient Greek Tragedies The chorus s perspective of justice works differently in Euripides Medea and Aeschylus The Libation Bearers. In both The Libation Bearers and Medea, the driving force of vengeance links the chorus to each of the play s protagonists. For both plays, the choruses begin with a strong support of their heroes with a belief that the course of action that those characters are pursuing for the sake of avenging the wrongs done to them or their families is just and right. The chorus of Medea, however, moves away from that original conviction in the moral justification of revenge. Over the course of The Libation Bearers, the chorus also begins to express doubt in the validity of the true value in the cycle of deaths that the system of revenge... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chorus supports Orestes revenge against his mother Clytemnestra for killing his father primarily because a successful outcome of an action against Clytemnestra and Aegisthus would eliminate some of their cause for suffering. However, Orestes revenge against his mother and Aegisthus also meets the justice of the law of retribution, which the chorus defines: Justice turns the wheel. Word for word, curse for curse be born now, Justice thunders, hungry for retribution, stroke for bloody stroke be paid. The one who acts must suffer. (Libation Bearers 192) The law of retribution describes true justice as revenge, without very much in the way of logical moderation or consideration. This concept of justice shows the reasoning of Medea s actions. By this system, the pain that Jason s betrayal gave her necessarily must be repaid by an equal or greater pain that Medea would inflict on Jason. The chorus of both The Libation Bearers and Medea experience similar shifts in perspective once their protagonists have properly decided to take action against those characters who have wronged them in some manner. Directly following the prayers of Orestes and Electra in The Libation Bearers, the chorus says, The flesh crawls to hear them pray./ The hour of doom has waited long (Libation Bearers 197), clearly showing that the chorus, despite having urged Orestes on in taking ... Then came Benjamin Franklin and invented the metal lined fireplace. Franklin had a spurred interest in improving heating systems. At first people didn t have chimneys, they simply made a fire and sat around it. It did people little good to huddle by a fire, he argued, if currents of cold air then buffeted them.
