Compare and Contrast Apple and Samsung Essay
Essay Title: Compare, Contrast and Evaluate Apple and Samsung Companies.
Word Count: 918
The purpose of this essay is to compare, contrast and evaluate the two major competitor companies:
Apple and Samsung. This essay begins by discussing the market value of the both companies. It will
then turn to discussing the product portfolios of Apple and Samsung, and then examines the service
and it concludes by evaluation.
Firstly, Apple is very similar to Samsung with respect to the size of the companies. Steve Jobs and
Steve Wozniak, two important people who were expelled from a college, founded Apple Company in
1976, when the first Apple computer was released. (Nostoptechnology, 2009) Unlikely to Apple,
Samsung was founded in 1938 by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a matter of fact there is always someone from the staff that helps customers with their issues,
whether it is about the computer or the phone. In other words, Apple s staff is called Genius Bar staff,
they guide customers and make orders for repairs. (Apple, 2012) In contrast to Apple, Samsung
website does not provide such information, however, it is possible to make a call, e mail about the
customers issues or just visit the store. (Samsung, 2012) As well as Genius Bar, Apple (2012) provides
customers with on line support and opportunities to gather help over the phone, moreover, the website
is clear and understandable.
Even though, Samsung Company exists longer than Apple Company, it has number of major
advantages and disadvantages. One of the biggest disadvantages of Samsung is that it has lost in the
court against Apple and was forced to pay huge amount of money to Apple, thus undermining the
authority of the company as a whole. On the other hand, the advantage of the Samsung is that it exists
longer than Apple Company and has its well established world known brand and customer loyalty.
Similarly to Samsung, Apple is also well known company and advantage of that is that it is still
growing company and has tendency to expand even more. According to the aspects described above,
there are no major disadvantages related to Apple, which makes this company looks better comparing
to others.
It may therefore

Lawrence Vs Texas Legal Individualism
Legal Individualism is a legal interpretation that emphasizes liberty, self reliance and independence.
Legal individualism means everyone is equal based on law system there is no external standard that
we can convincingly propose and maintain the separation of equality and inequality and also every
individual becomes the bearers of legitimate rights. The legal individualism expresses American
culture because of in an individualistic society, the law preserves the idea that everyone can freely
choose to interact with others in their own way whether for economic, artistic, religious or romantic
purposes. Not everyone s choice will be fine. Not an individual is unreliable. Not that they can not
abuse their freedom. All this is granted. But no one is to make others the reason for their master, but
other people may be smart. Both the case Lawrence v. Texas, The Republic of Choices and Bellah s
habits of heart mention that legal individualism is deeply in the America society nowadays. The case
of Lawrence v. Texas involves two adults who fully and mutually agree to engage in sexual acts that
are common to homosexual lifestyles. The state can not belittle their own survival or control their own
destiny by proclaiming private sex as criminal acts. Many commentators interpret opinion as a liberal
ethical approach that fundamentally broadens privacy and freedom of constitutional rights to cover all
no victim crimes. Judge Scalia responded to the view that the exclusion of the

Bekker s The World Bewitched
Introduction
The World Bewitched (1965) was written by Bekker to outline theological and philosophical
viewpoints that challenged the notion that ghosts, devils, and angels had an influence on historical
events, as well as nature. The story was written at a time when Christianity was being perfected in
England and the rest of Europe. During this time, The World Bewitched (1965) was written, Bekker
served as a minister in Amsterdam. Protestants needed a philosophical and theological approach to
accentuate the assumption that God was the ruler of the world. The need to project God as the
authority while discrediting the influence of ghosts, devils and angels, was necessary so that
Christianity could take root in England and the rest of Europe. ... Show more content on

Through the use of reason, it is possible to reach a conclusion that God created the universe. In the
universe, spirit and matter were distinct entities from one another. Bekker notes that A mind is a
thinking substance and a body an extended one. Bekker adds that Devils are undeniably spirits, and
man is composed of a Body and a spirit. The use of reason to oppose the existence of ghosts and
demons is critical to Bekker. The distinction between the spirit and matter would mean that theology
and philosophy are necessary for discrediting the existence of demons and ghosts. However, it is not
clear whether there is a relationship between matter and spirit. Critics assert that Bekker fails to
explain whether spirits have an influence on the body or whether God has any control over bodies in

Homecoming Should Be Abolished Essay
I feel that homecoming shouldn t be abolished. Abolishing homecoming would be upsetting to
students and former students. The reasons I feel this way is because homecoming could be so much
fun, you also get to know more about your school and learning their traditions of the school. To begin
with, homecoming could be fun for new students and former students. In homecoming week they do
something called spirit week. In spirit they allow you to dress up and show your school spirit. They
have a homecoming football game which is so fun because you have people coming out to support
your school. They also all teachers to show their spirit and dress up. They have students running for
homecoming king and queen, which is competitive to see who will take over the crown. A lot of
people run, but some lose. It is still fun to run because at least they tried. If they take homecoming
away it would be boring to students because there s not going to be a football game to attend. The
football game is mostly where the fun is. Homecoming could never get old so it s going to be
impossible to take that away from ICN high school. Our school is one of the best in the city and
everyone love to our football games. Homecoming is where all the fun is at in our school.
Additionally, you get to know more about your school. In homecoming, a lot of the history your
school is recognized. Homecoming is to welcome back former students. Who attended the school

The Major Classical Theorists Influenced The Economics Of...
Three major classical theorists have attempted to interpret why societies change. They are Adam
Smith, Max Weber, and Karl Marx (Franks, 35). These three have inspired a lot of people down the
years. Adam Smith is known as the theoretical father of modern economics. In 1776, Smith argued
that the invisible hand of the market would change the economics of a nation and it would make the
nation better. In his invisible hand theory, he states that if one person strived to achieve success, then
the person would simultaneously benefit people around him. The prices and quality will be determined
by relationships between consumers and sellers through supply and demand (Franks, 34). In other
words, the market will not be regulated by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The history of Marxism is controversial, and the ideas have influenced a lot of men and women to
address social issues. Karl Marx stated that the occurrence of capitalism brought humanity a necessary
step closer to socialism and the conquest of human inequality (Frank, 30). This is an inevitable part of
the development of human society.
According to scholar Mario Barrera, traditional Marxists thinks that a class is a group of people who
have a similar relationship in things that they use in their daily lives, such as food, houses, and
appliances (Franks, 30). Also, Marxists address that each society has its own particular class structure.
In addition, Marxists have defined three primary classes that currently exist in a capitalist social
system, and they can be found in the United States. The first group of classes consists of capitalists,
people who own and control an enormous proportion of productive property in the United States.
Having productive property means being able to produce products, such as producing products that
people demand. In this case, capitalists are wealthy because they hold an overwhelming amount of
productive property.
The second group of classes consists of workers, people who have cars, computers. cell phones, and
homes, but they own little of productive property. The reason is that most of their income comes from
their wages, salaries, and tips. They do not own company themselves. The third group of classes
compose by the bourgeoisie, who

History And History Of Math
History of Math in Egypt We use math almost daily in our lives, but how many of us think about the
history of math? Math began with early humans in the form of scratches and was carried into ancient
Egypt and Greece (Mastin).Today, Egypt s population is roughly 94 million (The World Factbook).
However, back in 3000 BC, scholars estimate that between one to four million people lived in the Nile
River Valley. The Egyptians called this region Kemet which translates to Black Land (O Connor and
Robertson; Lesko 135 44). As society began to be more complex and people began to trade for
services and goods, a need for a counting system arose (O Connor and Robertson). At the time, the
Egyptians used hieroglyphs that only scribes could write ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Twenty five problems are written on the papyrus and these were translated by Egyptologist Vasily
Vasilievich Struve. These problems use algebra as well as geometry (Gardener). The Egyptians used
and created many forms of math that we still use today. Their advancements in both writing forms and
mathematics help people today in more ways than they could have imagined. Also, numerous things
were discovered when Jean François Champollion in 1822 translated hieroglyphs for the first time
(Lesko 135 44). Lastly, we no longer write in picture symbols that few people can decipher and still
use a base ten counting system. Math in Egypt and Today The Egyptians utilized many forms of math
in their daily lives. Among these were various algebra and geometry problems(Gardner). Around 2700
BC, a base ten counting system that used different symbols such as a stroke for the number one, a heel
bone symbol for 10, a coil of rope for 100, and a lotus plant for 1,000 was developed (Mastin). Base
ten is a numbering system that uses a decimal for any number smaller than one. Once a number
exceeds nine it moves to the next place (the tens place) (Russel). Furthermore, the Egyptians could
also estimate the area of a circle by guessing that if the area of a circle with a diameter of nine units
was close to the area of a square with sides of eight units, that the area of that circle could be
calculated by multiplying the diameter by 8⁄9 and then squaring it (Mastin). In order to find the

Brave Men And Women Of This Great Nation
Brave men and women of this great nation choose to make what many have referred to as the ultimate
sacrifice by answering our nation s call to serve as a member of the United States Armed Forces. Most
have no clue of how these individuals manage to tolerate the rigors of highly intensive, extended
training days for months at a time. The idea of maintaining mental, physical, and spiritual resilience
throughout lengthy combat deployments to the middle east and other tormented nations abroad all
while having to uphold a long distance relationship with your significant other, children, and family is
mind boggling. Statistics have proven that the job of United States military personnel to be one of the
most stressful professions in today s job market. Most people refer to the these audacious men and
women as heroes for the selfless act of enlisting to serve their country. Others believe that the one
percent of those daring enough to sign their lives away to Uncle Sam are terribly insane or just plain
mad even. Once your time has been completed as an active service member, drilling reservist or
guardsmen, or a member of the active guard and reserve (AGR), it is customarily assumed that these
doughty individuals would be able to collect on an insurmountable debt from this great nation but the
majority of them never have the chance to even cash on a fraction of what is justifiably due to them.

Comparison Of Five Battle Rifles
There are numerous battle rifles in production today, with some performing better than others. The
M16, or AR 15, which has been the first line service rifle for the US Military for almost five decades
(Poyer, 2013, p. 1), and the AK 47, which has been in production for more than sixty years, stand out
as the most popular, most produced, and the most highly regarded rifles in our modern time. Both
rifles are similar in many ways and are excellent firearms for sport, self defense, and modern warfare.
Both have been battle tested in just about every conflict over the course of the last fifty years, are
currently used as the main battle rifles for a large part of the world, have at least thirty round magazine
capacity, are similar in size and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The AR 15 s operation is based on the direct impingement (DI) gas system. When a round is fired in
the DI gas system, gas from the expended round is tapped from the barrel and transferred back to the
firearms operating system via a gas tube. The gas unlocks the bolt and cycles the action to load the
next round. This process, over time, produces a buildup of residue on the rifles action which can
negatively impact its reliability if not properly maintained. In addition, under sustained fire, the gas
tube can fail if not properly maintained. The AK 47 s operation is based on a gas piston operating
system. Like in the AR 15, when a round is fired, gas from the expended round is tapped from the
barrel, but instead of being directed back to the operating system it is used to cycle a piston system. In
this process, the gas is trapped in a piston cup, away from the action, which forces the piston rod to
impact the operating system, which in turn cycles the action and loads the next round. With the gas
piston system there is much less residue buildup in the rifles action and no gas tube to fail. This gives
the AK 47 superior reliability and the ability to operate even without proper maintenance over
extended periods of

Strategies For Lifelong Additional Language Learning Essay
Strategies for lifelong additional language learning
The ability to evaluate whether something is worth learning is considered a meta skill (Siemens et al.
2005). This reference to meta skill is remiscient of the metacognitive processes involved in learning.
Thinking about the learning process is an important aspect as it allows learners to reflect on strengths,
areas of improvement and make adjustments to learning plans (Starkey, 2012). Considering the large
breadth of material (vocabulary, grammar, social and cultural contexts) in learning an additional
language, planning an additional language learning path is crucial to an additional language learners
success (Anderson, 2002). A lifelong commitment to learning a new language does not come without
the potential benefits of the strategic planning, monitoring and thinking about learning processes.
Metacognitive training is associated with promoting learner autonomy and allowing students greater
control over managing their studies (Kangli, 2002). Sucesss and high proficiency in learning an
additional language is contingent on the learner s ability to prioritize, organize and evaluate strategies
related to comprehension (Gu, 2008; Oxford, 2001; Anderson, 2002). Brown (2013) clearly defines
metacognitive activity in additional language learning as three distinct stages planning for additional
language learning, reflecting on the processes as they are taking place as well as monitoring the
production and/or comprehension of

pH and Buffer Using Red Cabbage Indicator to Measure pH
Introduction This experiment was performed to evaluate the following hypothesis: Red cabbage
indicator can be used as a measure of pH. According to Campbell, et al, in Biology: Concepts and
Connections, red cabbage contains a water soluble pigment called anthocyanin that changes color
when it is mixed with an acid or a base. The pigment turns red in acidic environments with a pH less
than 7 and the pigment turns bluish green in alkaline (basic) environments with a pH greater than 7
(2012). The pH indicating property of red cabbage indicator is well accepted in the scientific
community and is a useful standard for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Acids were varying shades of red or pink and the bases were varying shades of green. The only
unexpected result was the variability of color change in the pH 12 buffer solution, though this was
attributed to the text, Table 2, stating the pigments are not stable at pH 12 (Pearson, 37). A weakness
of using red cabbage indicator to check the pH of an unknown solution or buffer is the subjectivity of
determining color. What one individual sees as pink. another person would see as light purple. Color
blind individuals would be at a significant disadvantage. Accuracy of pH is another consideration,
since in addition to the variability in shades of color the pH shown by the red cabbage indicator is
more of a ballpark estimate and limited to whole numbers. Using a pH meter, we can get a
significantly more accurate reading that is objective and not dependent on an individual s
interpretation of color or visible hue. In addition to the subjectivity of color, one would need to ensure
a consistent ration of indicator solution to test solution in order to not affect the shade of the color
change. Based on the data received and background information given, it is my opinion that although
red cabbage indicator solution can be used to determine pH levels, it is best used as a more general
indicator of whether a solution is an acid, base or neutral.

The Relationship Between Sam Spade And The Maltese Falcon...
Both Dashiell Hammett s development of Sam Spade in the Maltese Falcon and Dorothy Sayers
development of Harriet Vane in Gaudy Night, leave something to be said about the way British and
American detective novels create their characters in line with different views of life. Whether that
perspective is relative to the time period and country, or just the views of the author, it is clear that the
American hardboiled novel focuses strongly on the self interest of most of the characters, and the self
development of Sam Spade and what his perception of life is. Dorothy Sayers develops her
protagonist Harriet Vane in a similar way. She too is trying to understand her place in the world and is
given the opportunity to do so at Shrewsbury. The two novels contrast either drastically in plot
development and the types of crimes, which influences the character s views of their own lives.
The Maltese Falcon begins by quickly establishing Sam Spade as a morally complex character after
his affair with his partner s wife, even though he is supposed to be the protagonist. Sam Spade s
opening description as a blond devil let the readers begin to picture his cynicism. Readers can t expect
the normal actions of a protagonist as they can in Gaudy Night. In a sub genre of Mystery, this moral
questioning plays on the emotional mystery of not knowing fully that the protagonist is actually going
to be the hero. Not only questioning if he s the hero, but questioning if he might possibly be the

Introduction. Keeping The Day-To-Day Business Accounting
Introduction
Keeping the day to day business accounting is not just a necessity but rather, and above all, an
obligation. Financial accounting seeks to find answers to recurring questions in a business such as,
how much was sold last month, how many people have used the services, and how much to produce to
meet the needs of the customers. The financial accounting is a method that helps better organize and
manage any business. Accounting is the science that serves to organize all the numeric records of a
particular company. Thus, it serves to record all movements of values and quantities. Having said that,
it is not difficult to understand that financial accounting is, above all, a tool for managing a business,
regardless of its size.

International Accounting Standards Board International Financial Reporting Standards
A brief summary of recent global accounting is needed to understand what the international area
standards are and how they work. In 1973 the International Accounting Standard Board (IASB) was
created, an independent entity of the private sector. The IASB was created, among other functions, for
the preparation and issuance of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The entity already
existed previously, under a different name, but it was until after 1973 that it actually had the strength
to organise a movement of change in the accounting aspects at world level. The headquarters of the
IASB is located in London, and has the experience of more than 140 different professional accounting
entities. According to the website http://www.ifrs.org/About us/Documents/Who We Are English.pdf
the IFRS foundation and the IASB were established in 2001.

Examples Of Unsung Heroes Of American Revolution
American Revolution: Unsung Heroes of Independence We hold these truths to be self evident: that all
men and women are created equal. (Elizabeth Cady Stanton, 1848). During the American Revolution,
America went from being an extension of Britain (and a source of revenue when needed) to an
independent nation built upon the grecian idea of democracy. When people hear the names George
Washington, Benjamin Franklin, or Thomas Jefferson, they easily connect them to the capable leaders
and revolutionary heroes who made great contributions during America s delicate infancy. These men,
along with countless others, fought for the end of the monopolization Britain held over the colonies
and undyingly laid down their lives for the pursuit of freedom. However, do the names Deborah
Sampson, Peter Salem, or Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben ring a bell? Women, people of color, and
Europeans from all different walks of life were also swept up in the war for independence. The war
did not feature people of one gender, race, or nationality. These individuals were in the flesh for all of
these historical events, but, at the best, get a sentence in the history books taught in school

Social Animal Paper
Dolphins are highly social animals that travel in schools. It makes sense that they would sometimes
forage as a cooperative group. Several species have been observed to be group foragers. Some of these
species include spotted dolphins, Clymene dolphins, and bottlenose dolphins. The species most
associated with group foraging has been the dusky dolphin. Scientists have been trying to determine
how many dolphins actually forage in groups, and how they do it. It is hard to concretely determine
these, because quite a bit of foraging takes place under water. Scientists are still trying to fully
understand how these complex animals work.
Foraging is defined as feeding and all behaviors associated with it (Dugatkin 2014). There are many
different theories that researchers have used to show how foraging works. In a study about foraging in
groups, researchers Krause and Ruxton found that increasing foraging group size increases the amount
of food each forager receives (Dugatkin). This may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this experiment was to measure the effect one minute of physical activity would have
on a subject s blood pressure. In this experiment, physical activity is defined as stair climbing at a
moderate pace. For comparison purposes, standing blood pressure was measured before and after
physical activity. One subject was used and three trials were completed and the initial blood pressures
were as followed; 94/62 mmHg, 106/74 mmHg, and 102/66 mmHg. Blood pressures after physical
activity were 110/68, 112/76, and 106/70 mmHg. Blood pressure increased after physical activity.

Analysis Of The Monotheistic Religion Of Judaism
Judaism is one of the most controversial and known religions in the world. Judaism plays a major role
in history, as it almost went extinct during the reign of one of the most brutal people to ever live. But
many people don t know much about the religion, just that it went through tough times or took brutal
events during war time. I believe that it is good to inform others about the monotheistic religion of
Judaism and it s beliefs, because many people ask the same question : How does the Jewish religion
differ from Catholicism? There are many ways to answer this question, but I will deconstruct this by
developing 3 different questions to analyse not only the main question, but to analyse Judaism as a
whole. What is the Jews opinion of Jesus? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of a similarity is their belief in one God. Both religions are monotheistic and believe in
one true divine being. But even this common belief of the two religions has been broken down further.
Although both believe that God the holy one, Judaism does not accept the popular belief of the Holy
Trinity. The Holy Trinity is the three very important sections of beings that make up God: The Father,
The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Judaism insists on the notion of believing in ONE God, being strictly
monotheistic. As Judaism understands this idea, God cannot be made up of parts, even if those parts
are mysteriously united. The Christian notion of trinitarianism is that God is made up of God the
Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Such a view, even if called monotheistic because the
three parts are, by divine mystery, only one God, is incompatible with the Jewish view that such a
division is not possible. (JewCathDifference, The Differences Between Judaism and Christianity,

Balloon framing was genuinely well known on the east drift and parts of the Midwest previously.
Today it isn t for the most part permitted by current building codes. Be that as it may, it regards know
about the technique if it is experienced in the field. In this kind of framing the wall stud lays on the sill
plate with a rim joist in the interior side and after that the floor joist. The stud wall is persistent from
the sill plate to the best plate. At the second level the floor association, joists lay on a ledger and are
then face nailed to the studs.

How I Did Not Put Someone At Jail
How I did not put someone in jail A time in my life when I had to faced a mortal challenge and I had
to make a decision, came about me making a decision about weather I should allow someone I truly
loved go to jail. There were three major areas in my life, that I was transitioning to first was changing
from a denominational church beliefs to the church of Christ beliefs. The second transition was I was
leaving a life of being single to a life of being married. The third was having a empty nest syndrome.
With these three major components came about making a decision to allow someone I love not to
spend time in jail. Transitioning from my denominational church of the Baptis faith, to the Church of
Christ was interesting. I chose to take my beliefs of Baptist faith, which entails me as a Christian to
look at every day life encounters not so serious comparedto the Church of Christ more strictly, for we
will be jidge heavily for our sins. A good example would be. Many Baptis Christians would state once
saveed always saved appose to the Church of Christ states when you sin you must truly repent by
emerging again in water. This person I truly loved, had committed himself as well as myself to the
teaching of the Church of Christ. He failed tremendously to follow the churchways of worshippong by
committing adultery and intentionally wanted to committed harm to me, We had talked about how
wrong it would be to commit a cime andto go to jail for it. We both agree

The Relationship Between Aerobic Capacity And The Level Of...
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN AEROBIC CAPACITY AND THE LEVEL OF FITNESS OF
ANAEROBIC EXERCISE IN YOUNG ADULTS BY COMPARING THE MEAN CHANGE IN
PULSE RATE AND THE NUMBER OF PUSH UPS Introduction Cells undergo respiration which
produces adenosine triphosphate (ATP) for energy to support daily activities of human. There are two
forms of respiration, namely aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic respiration uses oxygen as a reagent in
order to produce a higher amount of ATP, yet requiring a longer time. On the contrary, anaerobic
respiration generates a higher amount of ATP per unit time, but leads to acidosis which hinders the
continuous supply of energy. The mode of respiration depends on the duration and intensity of
muscular activity. Muscles used for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

study is to investigate the influence of aerobic capacity to the level of fitness of anaerobic exercises. In
the following experiment, subjects are requested to perform push ups and step ups. The anaerobic
level of fitness is determined by the maximum number of push ups done by the individuals whereas
the aerobic capacity is indicated by the change in pulse rates. It is hypothesized that subjects with
higher aerobic capacity will be more anaerobically fit (HA), whereas the null hypothesis is that
subjects with higher aerobic capacity will not be more anaerobically fit (Ho) Methods Refer to the

When you are doing the displacement method there can be an error on how much volume of water you
accurately pour in.
B. What is the relationship between mL and cm3 (cc stands for cubic centimeters)?
Both of them are equal in terms of volume.
C. To help you get a feel for metric measurements, you need to know the relative magnitude of a few
basic measurements. For example: 1 mm = thickness of a dime, a penny weighs 2 ½ grams, and 20°C
= normal room temperature.
Determine the following:
1. What is the mass in kilograms (kg) of a person who weighs 143 lb?
64.9 kg
2. What weighs approximately 1 g?
1000 mg equal 1 g.
3. What is approximately 1 cm long, wide or thick?
10 dimes are equal to 1 cm of thickness.
4. What weighs about 100 g?
40 pennies weigh about 100 g.
D. An object has a density of 11.3 g/cm3. If it weighs 7.0 g and you added it to a graduated cylinder
with 5.0 mL of water, what will be the new volume of water in the cylinder after the object is added?

The Accommodation Of The Hotel Industry
The Accommodation Subsector was chosen for this Industry Research Paper. This industry is vast and
can be explained as follows:
Industries in the Accommodation subsector provide lodging or short term accommodations for
travelers, vacationers, and others. There is a wide range of establishments in these industries. Some
provide lodging only; while others provide meals, laundry services, and recreational facilities, as well
as lodging. Lodging establishments are classified in this subsector even if the provision of
complementary services generates more revenue. The types of complementary services provided vary
from establishment to establishment (North American Industry Classification System 2014).

Over the years famous hotels were built and renovated while keeping their history and sophisticated
charm.
Levy Bonvin (2003) stated that the early years of the twentieth century were rich in new hotels which
rapidly became prestigious . Numerous hotels were established during this time, not only in cities but
also in mountains. Hotel chains also became more attentive to their guests needs and wishes by
increasing their range of services. During the 1980 s, hotel trends evolved even more with the
construction of airport hotels, ski resorts and with the introduction of property management systems.
Technology made its greatest impact during the nineties with the use of check in and check out
procedures of the global reservation systems. This burst of technology increased the industries status
with its customers, for they were now able to market their products better and satisfy the needs of their
average guests.
There are a variety of different hotels; these include airports, resorts, extended stays and casinos.
These hotels are classified based on the hotel size, location, target market, levels of service and
number of rooms they have. The hotel industry is one of the largest and most diverse industries in the
world. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (2014) listed the employment rate for all employees in the
accommodation subsector as of October 2014 1.872.5 thousands with the unemployment rate at 6.7% ,

Political Philosophy Of Thomas Hobbes
Thomas Hobbes
Thomas Hobbes, a 17th century philosopher who is regarded as one of the forefathers of modern
political philosophy was born on April 5, 1588 in Westport, near Malmesbury, Wiltshire in England.
The unique mind of Thomas Hobbes found profound interest in disciplines like geometry, physics and
math, and studied at Magdalen Hall in Oxford. Hobbes is popularly known for his masterpiece The
Leviathan, his book that was published in the year of 1651 . Hobbes is well known for being an atheist
and for the fruition of what we now know as the social contract theory which was the method of
justifying political principles or arrangements by appeal to the agreement that would be made among
suitably situated rational, free, and equal persons (Hobbes, 1651). He is infamous for having used the
social contract method to arrive at the astounding conclusion that we ought to submit to the authority
of an undivided and unlimited sovereign power (Hobbes 1651) . Though Hobbes had formed
ideologies and applicable viewpoints on both moral and political philosophy, his conceptualization of
moral philosophy has been less influential than his political philosophy, because the theory was rather
ambivalent for the content to be agreed upon by the general public of the 17th Century. Hobbes had
many arguments of why human beings disobey the law.
One argument that Hobbes uses to illustrate his generalized idea of man is metaphysical: the theory
that only bodies in motion are real and

Short Term Memory Research Paper
Delayed Free Recall Experiments
Delayed free recall experiments consists of subjects being given a rundown with words or images
following the test of remembering the most words possible afterwards. In the middle of these two
stages, there is a short postponement or interlude, which contrarily impacts the measure of words that
can be recalled. (11)
Short Term Memory Memories are formed through a process of encoding and storing information in
the brain so that it can be easily accessible in future occasions. In order to remember facts, our brains
reproduce a sequence of neural activity that imitates the initial conditions of information storage.

It is selective and prolific not all information is stored by the brain even though the acquisition of data
is continuous. The encoding process entails making associations with previously known facts, which
contributes to the longevity of information. Once an event has been processed by the brain, it is then
stored. This leads to Long Term Memory (LTM) and, consequently, a physical alteration of the brain.
The structure of neurons is changed, and circuits, known as neural networks, are created or
strengthened. Moreover, the production of proteins and the transfer of neurotransmitters to receptors
through synapses, augments and solidifies circuits. With the repetition of such process through the
continuous retrieval of memory, the synapse connections become more efficient and the memory is
hardened. These steps contribute to the consolidation of memories which is essential to learning. The
retention period is also invaluable to the formation of LTM and is a product of time and the occurrence
of no overlaps. If similar pieces of information are processed by the brain, it is likely that one will
interfere with the memorization of the other as the brain becomes distraught and is unable to store
them. The retrieval process is determined by how easily accessible memories are. The more
connections pieces of information have with already stored memories, the faster they can be

Aging And Its Effects On The Aging
Also spelled as ageing, this is generally the process of becoming old. It is the in a way the opposite of
immortality. In a broader aspect, it may occur to single cells in an organism also called cellular
senescence or the population of a species, known as population ageing. This process primarily affects
human beings and fungi. In humans, it signifies the accumulation of various changes which occur over
time. The changes include physical, social and psychological changes.
Causes of aging are very uncertain. Besides, there are several factors which predispose an individual
to premature aging. Current theories suggest that this process occurs to due to cellular damage such as

The genitourinary system
The bladder and urinary tract depict the epitome of various old age associated conditions. Urinary
incontinence otherwise known as loss of bladder control is a common problem associated with aging.
Besides old age, diabetes and other conditions also contribute to incontinence. Other common
conditions include menopause for women and enlarged prostate for men.
Memory
Advancing age is commonly associated with loss of memory. The inability to maintain both short term
and long term memory is serious. Learning new things or remembering familiar words and names can
be quite daunting.
Senses Eyes and Ears
Advancing age is a common hindrance to the proper functioning of the body senses. The eyes will
have difficulty focusing on near and distant objects. Adapting to different levels of light is the other
common problem. Cataracts, also called clouding of vision is another common condition that results
from changes in eye s lens. Hearing abilities also diminish. With this, you will have difficulties
following a conversation or hearing high frequencies.

Developing A Financial Plan Development Model
Financial Plan Development
Time Out is the title of this student s proposed program for the course project. Time Out will provide
prevention and solution based services to the targeted population, African American high school
student athletes, located in Hampton, Virginia (Baskerville, C., 2015). This paper will provide readers
with a two year financial plan for the proposed program using step VII: Develop the Financial
Management Plan, of Calley s Comprehensive Program Development model as a guide (2011).
Developing a financial plan requires an understanding of the program s projected expenditures and
revenues, which leads to program sustainability through financial management (2011). The plan will
include projected expenditures such as staff salaries, benefits, liability insurance, office space,
supplies, and equipment, and transportations. Then the paper will present the organization s projected
funding sources, monitoring and reporting processes, and ethical considerations.
Two Year Projected Expenditures
Using information from the program design the student was able to project expenditures to implement
the proposed program (Calley, 2011). The projected expenditures are staffing, administration,
insurance (health and liability), and operating expenses such as office rental, supplies, and utilities. Of
all the projected expenditures, staffing will account for the largest expense for the program need
(2011). To project staffing expenses for the proposed program

Chelation Therapy Research Paper
WHAT IS CHELATION THERAPY?
Chelation refers to the removal of toxins and heavy metals from the cells and organs of the body.
Heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, aluminum, arsenic and others accumulate in our body
over time through daily exposure. These toxins are stored in our organs and can gradually corrode our
health.
Since they are so tightly bound within the cell, an agent must be used with a strong attraction to the
toxins to pull them out. That agent is the chemical EDTA. This is a man made amino acid that is FDA
approved for the removal of lead. It has been in use since the 1950s. It is also known to have an
affinity for other heavy metals and can pull those out of the cells of the body as well. Once bound to
the EDTA, the heavy metals are flushed out through the urine.
The presence of heavy metals is known to cause hypertension, damage to arteries leading to heart
disease , Damage the brain cells increasing the risk of dementia, Parkinson s and other diseases,
damage to the organs of the body increasing the risk of cancer.
For many decades, physicians with advanced training in chelation therapy have been combining

Compare And Contrast Pluto And Charon s Orbit
With the new dates and photographs from the New Horizons mission
(http://clapway.com/2015/07/11/new horizons journey through the cosmos 124/) that made a flyby of
Pluto on Tuesday, July 14th, scientists are now reporting that, unlike the earth and the moon s orbit,
Pluto and Charon s orbit is much different. It s so different in fact, that it is the only instance of this
orbit in the Sol solar system.
What s the difference?
The data from the mission revealed new information about both Pluto and Charon. It was found that
Pluto is only somewhere around 8 ½ times more massive than its moon Charon. On top of this, Pluto
and Charon are only 12,200 miles (19,634 km) apart. To put this in perspective, Earth is about 81
times more massive than the moon and are 238,900 miles (384,472 km) apart. Because the differences
in mass are so minute and because they are so close, Charon doesn t actually orbit around Pluto. In
reality, Pluto and Charon have what is known as a binary system, and this is the only orbit of its kind
in our solar system.
What this means is that the small difference of masses and the close proximity causes both cosmic
bodies to pull on each other, creating a gravitational point between the two that Pluto and Charon both
orbit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Charon is made of about as much ice as it is rock and has no atmosphere at all. There are nitrogen,
methane, and carbon monoxide ices on Pluto, but Charon mainly has water and ammonia ice. As of
now, it is clear that the two bodies have been together for billions of years, yet they are so incredibly

Why The Mona Lisa May Not Be A Painting Essay
When it comes to art appreciation and definition one is left at odds when societal practices do not
reflect theoretically sound arguments regarding the identity of a work. On one hand, paintings like the
Mona Lisa are displayed with great importance in museums around the world, with thousands of
visitors daily trekking to see the Mona Lisa, while just outside vendors are selling copies on canvas,
poster and magnet of the very same image. To help in the understanding of this phenomenon, and to
determine the work identity of the Mona Lisa, we shall examine the validity of arguments put forth by
Frank Sibley in Why the Mona Lisa May Not be a Painting which draws upon several concepts of art
identity put forth by Goodman and Elgin in Interpretation and Identity: Can the Work Survive the
World? . After this examination I will briefly add on to Sibley s arguments bringing them a step
further in conclusion, but let us first begin with the establishing principles of work identity proposed
in the two articles.
When introducing the concept of text being equal to work, Goodman proposes literary pluralism;
where one text produces one work with multiple valid, and allowably contradictory, interpretations.
This pluralism is present only in allographic art forms that are not linked to physical objects. Pluralism
about literature seems more plausible than pluralism about reality . He argues that literature may have
interpretations that conflict, but in the physical world one cannot

Satire and Propaganda Essay
Many see propaganda as undermining reason. Propaganda works with the emotions to get a mass to do
a certain action. Since propaganda tries to remain hidden, are there any in the world who see it and try
to uncover such propaganda? Satirical television and radio shows as well as newspapers challenge the
conceptions of which we take for granted and of which are propaganda. How does satire function in
relation to propaganda? First, one must define propaganda and since many have done so already, I
shall use the Sheryl Ross model. Her model defines propaganda as an epistemically defective message
designed with the intention to persuade a socially significant group of people on behalf of a political

Another rumor is about how your body reacts to the cannabis in your system and the harm that it

The majority of people who say that cannabis is a hazard to the brain got that idea from the 1974 study
by Dr. Robert Heath. These studies have been highly criticized by the American Medical Association
and also Journal of the American Medical Association. They criticized the amount of monkey s used

have other reasons for the prohibition of cannabis. Rumors that cannabis is horrible to the

The Impact Of Performance Management On The World s...
Rationale
The core concept of this composition is to address, and analyse the issues and benefits that encompass
the idea of performance management. Performance management has been selected due to its ever
growing and ever updating presence amongst the work force and organisational culture. Likewise,
performance management is important for the sustainability of an organisation through the monitoring
of employee growth, and the findings in this study will assist in clarifying why the organisation as a
whole benefits from the use of a policy in performance management. In conjunction with this,
McDonalds has been selected due to its ubiquitous, and familiar nature. It will consistently be used as
an example to provide a discourse for the evaluations within this study. Founded in 1940, McDonalds
is a global restaurant based organisation that specialises in fast food. It is the world s largest franchise
chain that has a mixed specialisation in both speed of output, yet also consistent quality in all its
stores.
Introduction
This essay will comprehensively analyse and assess relevant HR literature that supports the need for
performance management in the context of McDonalds, and further evaluate as to whether it is viable
and profitable for an organisation such as McDonalds to implement. By doing this, this essay will
propose specific performance management policies for McDonalds, with the assumption that a policy
is not currently implemented in the company. After this

Man will be uplifted just like the geese flying south for the winter by observing the exquisiteness of
nature around him. Updike continues his portrayal of the vast splendor of nature through metaphors,
similes, and diction pertaining to a large flock of starlings that flew and over and lit on the gold course
where the two men in the poem are playing. The approaching flock of birds seem like a cloud of dots
(Line 16) on the horizon to observers. The author compares The image of the steadily approaching
flock of starlings to iron filings (the birds) stuck to a magnet through a piece of paper (the horizon).
The men stand in awe of the black, writhing, approaching mass, much like children do when the
magnet picks up the filings through the paper. By comparing the approaching birds to the magnet and
iron filing scenario in a simile, Updike subtly likens the men reaction to a small child s reaction when
he/she sees the magic of the magnet and the iron filings for the first time. The simile purpose is to

The Influence Of Honey In Ancient Culture
Honey is the flower transmuted, its scent and beauty transformed into aroma and taste (Rosenbaum).
Honey has been known since the beginning of times. Its viscous, peculiar sweetness and its
distinguishable orange crystalized color makes honey be unique in its type. If my memory does not
fail me: I met honey for the first time so many years ago when I was a kid. I still remember those
times when I used to eat it by putting some of it on my finger. At home, honey never lack. For
example, I personally use it with some toasted bread while my dad uses it to sweeten his teas. These

their beliefs were false or true about honey? Certainly, they were right about some of the honey traits.
Scientifically speaking, honey has been tested and results have confirmed evidence with regard to

Legal individualism means everyone is equal based on law system there is no external standard that we can convincingly propose and maintain the separation of equality and inequality and also every individual becomes the bearers of legitimate rights. The legal individualism expresses American culture because of in an individualistic society, the law preserves the idea that everyone can freely choose to interact with others in their own way whether for economic, artistic, religious or romantic purposes. Not everyone s choice will be fine. Not an individual is unreliable. Not that they can not abuse their freedom. All this is granted. But no one is to make others the reason for their master, but other people may be smart. Both the case Lawrence v. Texas, The Republic of Choices and Bellah s habits of heart mention that legal individualism is deeply in the America society nowadays. The case of Lawrence v. Texas involves two adults who fully and mutually agree to engage in sexual acts that are common to homosexual lifestyles. The state can not belittle their own survival or control their own destiny by proclaiming private sex as criminal acts. Many commentators interpret opinion as a liberal ethical approach that fundamentally broadens privacy and freedom of constitutional rights to cover all no victim crimes. During this time, The World Bewitched (1965) was written, Bekker served as a minister in Amsterdam. In the universe, spirit and matter were distinct entities from one another. Bekker notes that A mind is a thinking substance and a body an extended one. They are Adam Smith, Max Weber, and Karl Marx (Franks, 35). These three have inspired a lot of people down the years. Adam Smith is known as the theoretical father of modern economics. In 1776, Smith argued that the invisible hand of the market would change the economics of a nation and it would make the nation better. In his invisible hand theory, he states that if one person strived to achieve success, then the person would simultaneously benefit people around him. Karl Marx stated that the occurrence of capitalism brought humanity a necessary step closer to socialism and the conquest of human inequality (Frank, 30). This is an inevitable part of the development of human society. According to scholar Mario Barrera, traditional Marxists thinks that a class is a group of people who have a similar relationship in things that they use in their daily lives, such as food, houses, and appliances (Franks, 30). Also, Marxists address that each society has its own particular class structure. In addition, Marxists have defined three primary classes that currently exist in a capitalist social system, and they can be found in the United States. The first group of classes consists of capitalists, people who own and control an enormous proportion of productive property in the United States. Having productive property means being able to produce products, such as producing products that people demand. Both rifles are similar in many ways and are excellent firearms for sport, self defense, and modern warfare. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The AR 15 s operation is based on the direct impingement (DI) gas system. When a round is fired in the DI gas system, gas from the expended round is tapped from the barrel and transferred back to the firearms operating system via a gas tube. The gas unlocks the bolt and cycles the action to load the next round. This process, over time, produces a buildup of residue on the rifles action which can negatively impact its reliability if not properly maintained. In addition, under sustained fire, the gas tube can fail if not properly maintained. The AK 47 s operation is based on a gas piston operating system. Like in the AR 15, when a round is fired, gas from the expended round is tapped from the barrel, but instead of being directed back to the operating system it is used to cycle a piston system. In this process, the gas is trapped in a piston cup, away from the action, which forces the piston rod to impact the operating system, which in turn cycles the action and loads the next round. With the gas piston system there is much less residue buildup in the rifles action and no gas tube to fail. This gives the AK 47 superior reliability and the ability to operate even without proper maintenance over extended periods of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Strategies For Lifelong Additional Language Learning Essay Strategies for lifelong additional language learning The ability to evaluate whether something is worth learning is considered a meta skill (Siemens et al. 2005). This reference to meta skill is remiscient of the metacognitive processes involved in learning. Thinking about the learning process is an important aspect as it allows learners to reflect on strengths, areas of improvement and make adjustments to learning plans (Starkey, 2012). Considering the large breadth of material (vocabulary, grammar, social and cultural contexts) in learning an additional language, planning an additional language learning path is crucial to an additional language learners success (Anderson, 2002). A lifelong commitment to learning a new language does not come without the potential benefits of the strategic planning, monitoring and thinking about learning processes. Metacognitive training is associated with promoting learner autonomy and allowing students greater control over managing their studies (Kangli, 2002). Sucesss and high proficiency in learning an additional language is contingent on the learner s ability to prioritize, organize and evaluate strategies related to comprehension (Gu, 2008; Oxford, 2001; Anderson, 2002). Brown (2013) clearly defines metacognitive activity in additional language learning as three distinct stages planning for additional language learning, reflecting on the processes as they are taking place as well as monitoring the production and/or comprehension of ... • 11. Ph Buffer Using Cabbage Indicator Lynne Andrew NB 1110 / M 5 7:50 Lab 1 February 2, 2015 pH and Buffer Using Red Cabbage Indicator to Measure pH Introduction This experiment was performed to evaluate the following hypothesis: Red cabbage indicator can be used as a measure of pH. According to Campbell, et al, in Biology: Concepts and Connections, red cabbage contains a water soluble pigment called anthocyanin that changes color when it is mixed with an acid or a base. The pigment turns red in acidic environments with a pH less than 7 and the pigment turns bluish green in alkaline (basic) environments with a pH greater than 7 (2012). The pH indicating property of red cabbage indicator is well accepted in the scientific community and is a useful standard for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Acids were varying shades of red or pink and the bases were varying shades of green. The only unexpected result was the variability of color change in the pH 12 buffer solution, though this was attributed to the text, Table 2, stating the pigments are not stable at pH 12 (Pearson, 37). A weakness of using red cabbage indicator to check the pH of an unknown solution or buffer is the subjectivity of determining color. What one individual sees as pink. another person would see as light purple. Color blind individuals would be at a significant disadvantage. Accuracy of pH is another consideration, since in addition to the variability in shades of color the pH shown by the red cabbage indicator is more of a ballpark estimate and limited to whole numbers. Using a pH meter, we can get a significantly more accurate reading that is objective and not dependent on an individual s interpretation of color or visible hue. In addition to the subjectivity of color, one would need to ensure a consistent ration of indicator solution to test solution in order to not affect the shade of the color change. Based on the data received and background information given, it is my opinion that although red cabbage indicator solution can be used to determine pH levels, it is best used as a more general indicator of whether a solution is an acid, base or neutral. ... • 12. The Relationship Between Sam Spade And The Maltese Falcon... Both Dashiell Hammett s development of Sam Spade in the Maltese Falcon and Dorothy Sayers development of Harriet Vane in Gaudy Night, leave something to be said about the way British and American detective novels create their characters in line with different views of life. Whether that perspective is relative to the time period and country, or just the views of the author, it is clear that the American hardboiled novel focuses strongly on the self interest of most of the characters, and the self development of Sam Spade and what his perception of life is. Dorothy Sayers develops her protagonist Harriet Vane in a similar way. She too is trying to understand her place in the world and is given the opportunity to do so at Shrewsbury. The two novels contrast either drastically in plot development and the types of crimes, which influences the character s views of their own lives. The Maltese Falcon begins by quickly establishing Sam Spade as a morally complex character after his affair with his partner s wife, even though he is supposed to be the protagonist. Sam Spade s opening description as a blond devil let the readers begin to picture his cynicism. Readers can t expect the normal actions of a protagonist as they can in Gaudy Night. In a sub genre of Mystery, this moral questioning plays on the emotional mystery of not knowing fully that the protagonist is actually going to be the hero. Financial accounting seeks to find answers to recurring questions in a business such as, how much was sold last month, how many people have used the services, and how much to produce to meet the needs of the customers. The financial accounting is a method that helps better organize and manage any business. Accounting is the science that serves to organize all the numeric records of a particular company. (Elizabeth Cady Stanton, 1848). During the American Revolution, America went from being an extension of Britain (and a source of revenue when needed) to an independent nation built upon the grecian idea of democracy. When people hear the names George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, or Thomas Jefferson, they easily connect them to the capable leaders and revolutionary heroes who made great contributions during America s delicate infancy. Several species have been observed to be group foragers. Some of these species include spotted dolphins, Clymene dolphins, and bottlenose dolphins. The species most associated with group foraging has been the dusky dolphin. Scientists have been trying to determine how many dolphins actually forage in groups, and how they do it. It is hard to concretely determine these, because quite a bit of foraging takes place under water. Scientists are still trying to fully understand how these complex animals work. Foraging is defined as feeding and all behaviors associated with it (Dugatkin 2014). There are many different theories that researchers have used to show how foraging works. In a study about foraging in groups, researchers Krause and Ruxton found that increasing foraging group size increases the amount of food each forager receives (Dugatkin). This may ... The unique mind of Thomas Hobbes found profound interest in disciplines like geometry, physics and math, and studied at Magdalen Hall in Oxford. Hobbes is popularly known for his masterpiece The Leviathan, his book that was published in the year of 1651 . Hobbes is well known for being an atheist and for the fruition of what we now know as the social contract theory which was the method of justifying political principles or arrangements by appeal to the agreement that would be made among suitably situated rational, free, and equal persons (Hobbes, 1651). He is infamous for having used the social contract method to arrive at the astounding conclusion that we ought to submit to the authority of an undivided and unlimited sovereign power (Hobbes 1651) . Though Hobbes had formed ideologies and applicable viewpoints on both moral and political philosophy, his conceptualization of moral philosophy has been less influential than his political philosophy, because the theory was rather ambivalent for the content to be agreed upon by the general public of the 17th Century. Moreover, the production of proteins and the transfer of neurotransmitters to receptors through synapses, augments and solidifies circuits. With the repetition of such process through the continuous retrieval of memory, the synapse connections become more efficient and the memory is hardened. These steps contribute to the consolidation of memories which is essential to learning. • 32. Chelation Therapy Research Paper WHAT IS CHELATION THERAPY? Chelation refers to the removal of toxins and heavy metals from the cells and organs of the body. Heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, aluminum, arsenic and others accumulate in our body over time through daily exposure. These toxins are stored in our organs and can gradually corrode our health. Since they are so tightly bound within the cell, an agent must be used with a strong attraction to the toxins to pull them out. That agent is the chemical EDTA. This is a man made amino acid that is FDA approved for the removal of lead. It has been in use since the 1950s. It is also known to have an affinity for other heavy metals and can pull those out of the cells of the body as well. Once bound to the EDTA, the heavy metals are flushed out through the urine. The presence of heavy metals is known to cause hypertension, damage to arteries leading to heart disease , Damage the brain cells increasing the risk of dementia, Parkinson s and other diseases, damage to the organs of the body increasing the risk of cancer. • 33. Compare And Contrast Pluto And Charon s Orbit With the new dates and photographs from the New Horizons mission (http://clapway.com/2015/07/11/new horizons journey through the cosmos 124/) that made a flyby of Pluto on Tuesday, July 14th, scientists are now reporting that, unlike the earth and the moon s orbit, Pluto and Charon s orbit is much different. It s so different in fact, that it is the only instance of this orbit in the Sol solar system. What s the difference? The data from the mission revealed new information about both Pluto and Charon. It was found that Pluto is only somewhere around 8 ½ times more massive than its moon Charon. On top of this, Pluto and Charon are only 12,200 miles (19,634 km) apart. To put this in perspective, Earth is about 81 times more massive than the moon and are 238,900 miles (384,472 km) apart. Because the differences in mass are so minute and because they are so close, Charon doesn t actually orbit around Pluto. In reality, Pluto and Charon have what is known as a binary system, and this is the only orbit of its kind in our solar system. What this means is that the small difference of masses and the close proximity causes both cosmic bodies to pull on each other, creating a gravitational point between the two that Pluto and Charon both orbit. ... • 34. Why The Mona Lisa May Not Be A Painting Essay When it comes to art appreciation and definition one is left at odds when societal practices do not reflect theoretically sound arguments regarding the identity of a work. On one hand, paintings like the Mona Lisa are displayed with great importance in museums around the world, with thousands of visitors daily trekking to see the Mona Lisa, while just outside vendors are selling copies on canvas, poster and magnet of the very same image. To help in the understanding of this phenomenon, and to determine the work identity of the Mona Lisa, we shall examine the validity of arguments put forth by Frank Sibley in Why the Mona Lisa May Not be a Painting which draws upon several concepts of art identity put forth by Goodman and Elgin in Interpretation and Identity: Can the Work Survive the World? . After this examination I will briefly add on to Sibley s arguments bringing them a step further in conclusion, but let us first begin with the establishing principles of work identity proposed in the two articles. When introducing the concept of text being equal to work, Goodman proposes literary pluralism; where one text produces one work with multiple valid, and allowably contradictory, interpretations. This pluralism is present only in allographic art forms that are not linked to physical objects. Pluralism about literature seems more plausible than pluralism about reality . He argues that literature may have interpretations that conflict, but in the physical world one cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since propaganda tries to remain hidden, are there any in the world who see it and try to uncover such propaganda? Satirical television and radio shows as well as newspapers challenge the conceptions of which we take for granted and of which are propaganda. How does satire function in relation to propaganda? Updike continues his portrayal of the vast splendor of nature through metaphors, similes, and diction pertaining to a large flock of starlings that flew and over and lit on the gold course where the two men in the poem are playing. The approaching flock of birds seem like a cloud of dots (Line 16) on the horizon to observers. The author compares The image of the steadily approaching flock of starlings to iron filings (the birds) stuck to a magnet through a piece of paper (the horizon). The men stand in awe of the black, writhing, approaching mass, much like children do when the magnet picks up the filings through the paper. By comparing the approaching birds to the magnet and iron filing scenario in a simile, Updike subtly likens the men reaction to a small child s reaction when he/she sees the magic of the magnet and the iron filings for the first time. The simile purpose is to show how nature can make grown men feel like small, free little kids when experiencing nature at its best. As the observers continue to watch the looming flock of birds, the flock became one huge pulsating mass of birds that seemed as much as one thing as a rock. (Line 22) Updike once again eloquently portrays nature as absolutely stunning to show how nature affects man. The birds descended in a huge evenly tinted (Line ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
