Proclamation Of 1763 Was Offensive To The Colonists
Proclamation of 1763 Forbade all American settlement West of the Appalachian Mountains to
appease the Natives. The Proclamation was offensive to the Colonists because the Colonists
thought they deserved the land after fighting with the British in the Seven Years War. Colonists
rebelled against this and settled on the land anyways . The Proclamation was significant because it
was one of the first times that Americans were being restricted by the Crown. Virtual
Representation Stated that Parliament members spoke on behalf of all British subjects instead of
the interests of one region. Colonists were angered by this because they knew that Parliament has
British interests as the highest priority instead of the colonies. Colonists also felt... Show more

The committee organized responses to England led by Patriots. The committee promoted patriotism
and home manufacturing in an effort to boycott Britain s trade. This was significant because the
committee helped impose and influence patriot views on American and encouraged citizens to
rebel against Great Britain. Lexington and Concord The first military battles of the American
Revolutionary War. British men were tasked with seizing arms in Concord. The minutemen and
redcoats crossed paths in Lexington and Britain was forced to retreat back to Boston. This was a
major victory for the Patriots which bolstered their confidence and influenced other people to join
the Patriot cause because they had a fighting chance. Bunker Hill The area near Boston where
colonists fortified Bunker Hill which overlooked Boston. From the hill, the Colonists easily fight
the town and the British ships near them. By morning the Americans had soldiers ready at cannons
posed at the British. Eventually Britain were able to take charge of the hill but twice the British
soldiers died in comparison to the Colonists. The battle reassured the Patriots that they had a good
chance in defeating the British in the war since inexperience militiamen were able to put up a good
fight when they were outnumbered by trained British

Individual Homework #1 Boeing 787: The Dreamliner
Boeing 787: The Dreamliner Case Study (download from Angel) During the past decade, Boeing
watched as their competitor, Airbus, launched several new and very successful aircraft. In 2004,
Airbus surpassed Boeing in commercial airplanes delivered and future orders placed. This is the
first time that Boeing has ever lost its leading market share. The 787 is the first new airplane that
Boeing has introduced to the market in a decade. This case study examines how the 787 is

With all the steps that Boeing took, it was guaranteed that Boeing would be successful in the market.
2. How does the approach used for the 787 s development differ fundamentally from other airplane
projects undertaken by Boeing?
The approach that Boeing 787 took was fundamentally different than other airplane projects
undertaken by Boeing. Boeing built 70% of the products of Boeing 787 from different countries
of the world. Boeing has a long standing reputation to be secretive with their projects, so it was a
big step for Boeing to break their privacy and work with a group of people across geographical
boundaries. 35% of the plane s structure was supplied from Japan. Approximately, 26% of the
products were supplied from Italy. There were teams of 15 companies responsible for the
structure of the plane, 10 teams from USA and the rest from seven other countries. A lot of the
other products were also ordered from different parts of the world, including the vertical fin
from Frederickson as well as the fixed and movable leading edges of the wing from Tulsa. Once
all the parts were built, they were sent back to USA for the assembly. Also, 787 would be the
first aircraft of its kind to bring long range capabilities to a midsized airplane. It was also the first
time Boeing had its structural suppliers fund their own research and development so that suppliers

Compare Utopia And A Man For All Seasons
In Utopia and A Man for All Seasons, written by Thomas More, More analyses politics through
different perspective. More travels to Antwerp as an ambassador for England and King Henry
the VIII. Here More is introduced to Raphael Hythloday, a veteran traveler. Hythloday has a
great depth of knowledge and understanding of governments of many nations and in the book it
recounts their conversations.Utopia gives readers insight in the the ways politics are influenced
and through More s and Raphael s experience one can notice the different ways persuasion is
used with in politics. Raphael s story about theft and punishment can be used to note how to
persuade advisors to the Kings, and More s ideas between civilized and academic advice can be
used to persuade the King. In A Man for All Seasons, More is faced with the decision to save his
life or protect his integrity. Raphael s and More discuss the effects of why the punishment for
thievery is unnecessary and ultimately ineffective when it comes to solving the problem. This
conversation depicts a perfect way in which advisors can be persuaded to a contrasting idea,
because Morton, head advisor to the King, doesn t believe in the new way Raphael thinks
thievery should be punished but then is convinced by parts of Raphael s ideas. More brings up
the idea that the most effective way to influence public affairs is to gain the confidence of some
great king and give him advice (20). Raphael s disagrees, Kings are more interested in the science
of war than in useful peacetime techniques (20). Though Raphael doesn t believe going directly to
the king to advise, he also sees many problems with the councillors. Advisors are either too wise to
need, or too conceited to take advice from anyone else (20). Raphael brings up that he has even seen
this in England, which transitions their conversion into the punishment for thievery. Raphael
believes that the death penaltyis too severe, and as a deterrent it s quite ineffective (22). Most steal
when they are desperate and no penalty on earth will stop people, and it would be more effective
to provide everyone with some means of livelihood so that they wouldn t steal in the first place
(22). This applies to more

Generation Gap In Into The Wild
The Generation Gap
Picture this: you are twenty two years old. You just graduated from college and you are about to
start your first real job. You need money desperately to pay off your mountainous pile of student
debt but more importantly, your phone just broke this morning when you were ordering your
daily low fat, non dairy mocha macchiato and you need to buy the new iPhone. You haven t been
able to check Twitter in over three hours and the anxiety of not knowing what new offensive
tweet from your newest president, Donald Trump, says is eating you alive. You call your parents
for help because maybe, just maybe, they will help you out with money this one last time and of
course they do... This is the typical life of over seventy five million ... Show more content on

For example, parents who grew up in the south and learned racism disowned their daughter
because she was dating a black boy. This is an extreme case in how racism among generations can
ruin a family, but sadly, this is something that happens all the time. Another example of differing
viewpoints by generation in a family can be seen in Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer when Chris
McCandless strongly disagrees about what the meaning of life is; his father believes it s all
about the material goods and having money but Chris believes that it s about finding peace with
yourself without the outside influence of media or society. A more specific example of this is
when Chris father offered to buy Chris a new car but he did not want it because he already had a
car that worked perfectly fine (Krakauer 20). Millennials are more open to equality and
diversity.60% of millennials say that interracial marriage is a change for the better while only
29% of baby boomers say that it is a good thing. Perhaps this could be because of the creation of
social media. By being connected to whoever you want whenever you want, you are able to share
ideas and information instantaneously. This is a great way to spread culture and beliefs. By
exposing themselves to and becoming familiar with the culture of other people, you become more
accepting and comfortable with that group of people that may be foreign to

The Invisible Man Analysis
The story The Invisible Man is written by Ralph Ellison. The author takes his personal
experiences as an ignored man and creates this character that shows the characteristics of a man
whom few people would stop to acknowledge. This story can be seen as a symbol of an educated
black man whose life has been controlled and oppressed by a white society. Throughout the story
one will notice that the man is nameless. The is because the narrator in The Invisible Manis invisible
not only to others but himself as well because of racismand trying to live up to expectations of
others. There are certain tools that are given to him by outsiders and things he will use that will
ultimately develop him into student and man. The author has written about events that made the
invisible manwho he was. It is important to notice that the invisible man has been searching for his
identity the whole time and will later discover that his identity is in those things he has always had.
This story also uses appeal of pathetic to grab the reader s attention. Throughout the story the
author, Ralph Ellison, struggles to attempt to uncover the invisible man s identity that is buried
beneath oppression. It is important to understand that the invisible man is an African American
male who sates that he is only looked down on because of his skin color (Ellison). Ralph Ellison
goes in detail by showing us how lies can be seen as an obstacle to anyone s journey of finding
himself and his true identity. These obstacles are expressed in Ralph Ellison s usage of symbols
and imagery portrays those obstacles. The man is faced with these obstacles of deception in his
ability to make his own life, but instead is confined to live the life in white men s society. The
purpose calls for action to the public to open their eyes to realize that racism is a problem that
will not go away; it is something that must be forced to an end whereby men are willing to be
themselves in the process.
In the story, the narrator has set out to search for his true identity, but this idea of why he is blind
to the world leads him to become blind in the process. I believe that it is important to focus on the
significance of the man s living situation. The invisible man lives

Online Research Skills
Introduction
Technology has revolutionized the realm of education through increasing the number of sources
and methods of research (Cottrell, 2013). The accessibility of online based research platforms has
created an avenue for students to have ultimate desire to learn and eventually become qualified
scholars. Research and more especially educational research open the heart and minds of students to
greater inventions; hence, creating a better and accomplished society. Accessibility of information
through online searches will not only create an excellent platform for research, but also increase the
intrinsic motivation and desire for students to learn; hence, become ideal citizens. The aim of the
essay is to help educators understand the implications Online Research Skills have on the
classroom. Learning institutions have embarked on creating online facilities where students can
access information through internet via the World Wide Web
. The remote access in various parts of
the globe makes it possible for students to study irrespective of their location and the geographical
areas. However, guidance is paramount when students choose various sources of research found
online. Some sources are credible while others may not meet the standards of Academia, and this
explains why educators should provide adequate directions.

Persuasive Essay Against Gun Violence
GUN VIOLENCE IN THE US
Against The Violence of Guns
In today s society, so many people have hidden guns in their homes, whether it s for protection or
for hunting or any reason and some of these people turn up in the news because their children
somehow got to their gun. News all over the United States cover cases where bullied children or
misunderstood children walk into a school with loaded guns and knowing exactly how to operate
them and have the heart to kill many of their classmates. Often the case, the parents of these young
children had no idea these children even knew where their guns were. In other cases, it is very
easy to find a place where you can purchase a gun without state permit nor prior registration,
facilitating the purchase of these guns. All over the world, guns are as simple to find as gum,
and keeping one around your home is as safe as it is dangerous because it isn t about who has a
gun, its about what they can do with it. Although everyone s reason for owning guns is for safety
only, there are different methods of protection that are safer than having a gun that can cause more
damage than safety, and also many reasons not to own one at all.
Throughout US History, there has been many amendments put in place that have put peoples lives
in danger. The 2nd amendment talks about how people have the right to keep a gun in their house
for a security reasons. This amendment gave way for the militias, who are groups of people who
protected their towns,

The Incident Rates Of Men With Cancer Black Men Essay
As stated previously in 2014 the USA had approximately 20.3 million people who were
diagnosed with cancer. When exploring the 2013 incident rates of men with cancer black men
had an incident rate of 518. Compared to white men of 473.9, next came Hispanic and Asian;
black males had the highest death rate among all races (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, 2016b). In regards to women, white women had an incident rate of 417.4, followed by
blacks, Hispanics, and Asians, but the highest death rate is among black women (Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, 2016b). According to the statistics the needs for increased
screening and care is needed in the African Americanand Hispanic community.
Hospice patients vary in age, race, and socioeconomic demographic. Hospice agency care for
neonate, pediatric, adult and generic patients, in 2014 0.5% of patients were less than 24 years
of age, 32.4.% of patients were 25 74 years of age , and 67.1% of patients were over 75 years of
age (National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, 2015). Most importantly when looking at
hospice patients by race/ethnicity, we are able to see the need for cultural diversity and
sensitivity, in 2014 76% of hospice patients were Caucasian, 7.6% were African American, and
7.1% were Hispanic or Latino. This indicates a decrease in diversity compared to the findings of
2013.

Background on Florence Nightingale
Background
Florence Nightingale was born on May 12, 1820, named after her birthplace, Florence, Italy.
Florence s mother Frances Nightingale was from a family of merchants and enjoyed socializing
with people of prominent social standing. Florence was the exact opposite; she avoided anything
where she was the center of attention. Florence s father William Shore Nightingale was a wealthy
landowner. Her father was able to provide Florence with the best education. Florence Nightingale
was always trying to help anyone around her, even from a young age. She ministered to the ill
and poor people. At 16, she decided to pursue the career of nursing, trying to help as many people
as possible. Her parents were upset and forbid her from becoming ... Show more content on

The hospital was on top of a large waste container, which contaminated the water and the building
itself. Soldiers lay in their own body fluids on stretchers throughout the hallways as pests ran about.
Supplies dwindled due to the increase in patients, even water was being rationed.
Florence set to work quickly. Her team and the wounded that were mobile, scrubbed the entire
hospital. Florence spent a great deal of her time caring for the soldiers. She quickly gained the
nick name the lady with the lamp and the angel of Crimea because she walked the halls at night
with a lamp, while caring for the soldiers. The death rate dropped by two thirds because she
improved the sanitary conditions of the hospital. In addition to improving sanitary conditions,
she also created a number of different patient services to improve the quality of their hospital
stay including, meal services, laundry, and classroom services. Florence stayed in Crimea for a
year and a half. She left once the war had ended. When she left in 1856, she was welcomed back
with a hero s welcome. She was rewarded by the Queen with an engraved brooch, which later
came to be known as Nightingale Jewel, and also receiving $250,000 from the British government.
Florence used the money to open the St. Thomas Hospital, and the Nightingale Training School for
Nurses. Nightingale gave the nursing profession a boost in the popularity; it no longer was a lower
class job.

The Villain Of Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Villain of Gatsby
Here s the thing about stories; they re all different, but they re all the same. Now, everyone
knows how they re different. Different letters make up different words which make up different
sentences. It s this difference that allows for multiple stories to be told. The other side of stories
is much less understood. They re all the same. This can be seen through the examination of
archetypes, most importantly the hero vs the villain. It can be seen in every tale imaginable.
Every batman has a joker, Luke will always face Darth Vader, and the mailman and dog will wage
war to the end of time. It is by examining stories through these archetypes that it becomes easier to
see their similarities. When it comes to The Great Gatsby, however, things become much more
complicated. The story, complete with layers of deception, lust, and corruption blurs the traditional
archetypes that a reader looks for in a story. When the individual qualities of the characters are
examined, however, their roles can become much clearer. Through his obsession, his false identity,
and his selfish attitude Jay Gatsby is the villain of F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. The term
hopeless romantic isn t typically associated with villainous behaviors. You don t see Romeo
compared to Cruella De Ville fairly often. But when you look at Jay Gatsby, his romanticism, and
more importantly his obsession, leads to the collapse of the story. Unfortunately for him, Gatsby
allows one

Design A Task For A Grade Classroom
For our GeoGebra lesson, Ashley and I decided to design a task for a 1st grade classroom. This
1st grade lesson required students to partition circles, and possibly rectangles, into halves and
fourths using the idea of fair sharing with the tools provided by GeoGebra. We went with this idea
assuming that students have had previous experiences with GeoGebra and with fair sharing,
perhaps with friends or siblings for example. We divided up the work evenly and worked on our
sections on our own, asking for help if needed. This assignment provided me the opportunities to
practice implementing the mathematical teachingmethods I have been learningabout in my classes,
work with a fellow classmate that has had more experience in the classroom, and work on what it
may look like to develop a mathematical task that is centered on a piece of technology like
GeoGebra. A practice all teachers should rehearse, prepare for, and become masters at is quality
questioning. When writing our lessonplan, we were prompted to think of questions that would allow
for extension, check for understanding, provide differentiation, lead students in developing an
understanding of the key ideas included in the lesson, guide students through the lesson by
scaffolding their learning, and help to clear up misconceptions that existed. As one can see,
planning for the types of questions to ask and anticipating the types of responses that would come
in turn, encompassed a large portion of our prepping our

The Major Causes Of The American Civil War
The American Civil War, the issue of a longstanding controversy over slavery, began in April 1861.
The continuance of the American Civil War was about 4 years 3 weeks and 6 days (April 12,1861
May 9, 1865). The war took place in the Southern United States, Northeastern United States, Western
United States and nearer to the Atlantic Ocean. The war was in between the United States and the
Confederate states. After the election of Abraham Lincolnas president in the year 1860, the
antislavery attitude of the president caused seven southern states to secede from the Union to form
the Confederate States of Americaand later on four more joined with them. The major causes that
directed the American Civil Warwere slavery, sectionalism, protectionism, states right, territorial
crisis, and national elections. The Civil War turned out to be the costliest war ever fought on
American soil. The triumph of the Unions against the Confederates abolished slavery. At the same
the victory also directed toward the preservation of U.S territorial integrity and beginning of the
reconstruction era.
General William Sherman was an extraordinary general in the history of the United States Army.

Gender Roles In Murasaki Shikibu Genji
In Murasaki Shikibu Nikki, the author says: To be pleasant, gently, calm and self possessed: this
is the basis of good taste and charm in a woman (Shirane, 450). Women were supposed to act a
certain way, and this diary specifies the boundaries clearly. Most of this is because she herself
was the object of criticism from those around her, despite the popularity of her tales. Another tip
from her is No matter how amorous or passionate you may be, as long as you are straightforward
and refrain from causing others embarrassment, no one will mind (450). If you do not follow
society s guidelines, you will be judged in every movement you make, and people will find fault
with whatever [you] say or do; whether it be how [you] enter a room, how [you] sit down, how
[you] stand up or how [you] take [your] leave (451). She goes on about how she is regarded by
others because of how much she knows, and the rumors that spread about her. People generally
think she is worth making fun of and talking about because she knows Chinese and because she
referenced the Chronicles of Japan, a classic text about Japan, in The Tale of Genji(451).
The Changelings is an interesting monogatari from this time period. The story revolves around two
characters who fall into gender roles different from their sex. Sadaijin s son acted more like a girl.

everyone to speak one language and be able to understand each other it s a good thought, but not
that easy. A lot of people don t speak English and it would be threatening the liberty of

The Benefits Of Marching Band
Many people can t see the benefits obtained by being in marching band. If one s social life isn t
very strong, and they aren t very extroverted, marching band is a great solution. My band, the
Deltona High School Blue Brigade, greatly encouraged bonding among band members because
band is a family, not just a musicgroup. Marching bandis also a sport. It s a team effort, requiring a
lot of physical exertion, and it gives a sense of competition. Marching band also teaches some
hierarchy, which is a useful thing to know in the workforce. Another important aspect of band is
that it s a really good experience. It may be stressful at times, but it is definitely worth it. Having
been in band for seven years, I can confirm all of this.
Because I have ADHD and Asperger Syndrome, I find it very hard to speak out and socialize. But
since I was in marching band in high school, I found that I was more social. People aren t supposed
to talk in the middle of rehearsal, but that didn t stop the members of my band from bonding
outside of practice time. Band definitely changed the life of a friend of mine. When I first met
him in middle school, he was so shy, he was virtually silent. Thanks to his experience in band, he
now often speaks his mind. Marching band can help many people become more social. After all,
band isn t just a group of people who play music. Band is a family.
A team sport includes two things: physical exertion and team effort. Marching band is both of these
things. It s

Importance of Diet in Reducing Uric Acid
Diet itself is so important. The typical Western diet contains lots of animal protein which can be

How Did Catherine The Great Influence Russia s Golden Empress
Yekaterina: Russia s Golden Empress
From a small German principality to the very forefront of European politics, and from Sophie
Friederike of Anhalt Zerbst to Empress Yekaterina Alekseyevna, Catherine the Great became one
of Russia s most influential rulers in history. She is regarded as one of the most powerful women
the world has ever seen (Massie, 2011). Marked by political, societal, and cultural reforms, her
reign, proclaimed the Catherinian Age and the golden age of the Russian Empire, changed the
country irrevocably. Catherine s development of Enlightenment values, along with her relationships
with the French philosophes greatly impacted how she ruled (Lambirth, 2012). These values that

(p. 349) in regards to serfdom in the final draft of her Nakaz. Thus, the parts relating to the
subject of serfdom come out as a disorganized torrent of jumbled words (p.349). During the
actual assembly in 1768, the Russian nobility all argued passionately in favour of serfdom, so,
despite how Catherine herself felt regarding the practice, the reactions by the nobles in the
assembly made her back away from further confrontation (p. 360). The Legislative Commission

Joseph Turner Slave Ship Essay
My Initial Reaction to the Work
Out of the choices I had to pick from for my analysis. I chose the painting, Slave Ship by Joseph
Turner, due to the chaos I see in the painting. Not only is the event being portrayed very chaotic,
but the painting itself is full of turmoil as well. The painting has vigorous brush strokes and the
colors seem to melt together in areas, leaving the sky and the sea hard to distinguish in the middle
portion of the painting. The artist also uses bright and dark colors, allowing the creation of
pandemonium that I feel when I see this work. You can see the beginning of a storm on the left of
the painting along with a boat heading into the rougher waters caused by the weather, resulting in
the bow to be propelled upward.
The bottom portion of the painting is topsy turvy as well, showing shackled hands and chains
raised from the turbulent seas. With close inspection, you can see fish within the thrashing waves
on the bottom left portion of the painting. There are fish seen swarming a shackled hand in the
bottom right portion of the work as well. One could possibly argue that the fish are sea monsters. I
also see something that s hard for me to make out, but I think it may be an emergency boat partially
emerged from the waters. Lastly, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to his focus on color and lighting, often found in the Romantic period art work, Joseph s
work went on to influence the Impressionist movement. Throughout Turner s career, he remained
highly sought after and he acquired a very large fortune from his commissions. Museum of Fine
Arts in Boston (2015, May 25) mentions one of the most notable critiques of the work is from
the first owner of the Slave Ship , known as John Ruskin, who stated If I were reduced to rest
Turner s immortality upon any single work, I should choose this. The Slave Ship was considered

Power Of The Fittest By Richard M Emerson Essay
POWER DEPENDENCE RELATION
INTRODUCTION
When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful Malala Yousafzai
Power is a term that breaks all boundaries and establishes its intensity. The concept of power has
pre domitantly existed in the society. It has become the prerogative of human survival as power has
become the ticket to suppress others and move ahead in the society. As Charles Darwin
formulated the theory of survival of the fittest the very nature of power becomes evident.
Richard M Emerson an formulated the famous Power Dependence relation on the basis of these
paramaters. In the very beginning of his theory Emerson states that there is an existence of
ambiguities surrounding the terms power , authority , legitimacy and power structures .The
Power Dependence relations attempts to bring about a sense of balance. According to this
theory, the dependence a person has on another brings up the concept of power .1 Emerson
brings forth a similar concept as presented by Max Weber whose presentation was basically a
typology rather than an organized theory of power. Emerson brings about an argument that says
that social power is in dire needs of a systematic treatment. He criticizes the common norm of
treating power as an attribute of a person or group. He also proceeds to rank order persons by some
criterion of power and this ordering is called the power structure . So to wind it up in definable
terms we can say

How The Glasnost Policy To Modernize And Revitalize The...
As George Washington once said, If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we
may be led, like sheep to the slaughter is a concept that is connected to the policy that was
appointed in Soviet Union. Mikhail Gorbachev, the new leader of the Union of Soviet Socialist
Republic launched three policies in 1985, to modernize and revitalize the Soviet Union. The three
policies were Perestroika, a political movement for reformation within the Communist party,
Glasnost, the open discussion of political/social issues, and Demokratizatsia, which enabled them to
make changes by permitting wider access to the government (Cold WarPerestroika and Glasnost).
The Glasnost policy brought enormous changes, politically and socially in the Soviet Union. It

Although the policy of Glasnost caused much of the Soviet Union to panic with the openness of
media, it encouraged the people to express their opinion, abetted the introduction of western culture
and increased international affairs, which ultimately proves that Glasnost was the key to Russian
success in the world.
Glasnost was beneficial to the people of Russia and the media because it emboldened them to
express their opinions and recognize the past problems of the Soviet Union. Mikhail Gorbachev
wanted the public to actively participate in the society and create more transparency between the
government and the public. The book Glasnost the Dawn of Freedom by Richard Shifter quotes
that Glasnost permitted the people to attend court hearings and allowed the

Today s Unrealistic Body Expectations
Modern society portrays good looking men to have broad shoulders, toned arms, six pack abs,
and a small waist while good looking women are viewed to have the characteristics of being slim
and fit, having a small waist, lean hips, and perfect skin complexion. As a result, many people
are affected by our own society s portrayals of good looking men and women that they feel
pressured into doing whatever it takes and going through extreme measures, most of the time,
spending countless hours in the gym trying to achieve that perfect body. Body image is evident
in the gym, as the men are lifting weights they are frequently looking in the mirror examining
every angle of their body making sure no area is lacking muscle. On the other hand, women tend
to partake in the same behavior as men, showing a sense of insecurity about their own bodies,
frequently making trips to the scale to keep track of their weight making sure to stay slim and fit.
Society has a profound effect on many people, making them feel insecure about their own bodies.
The mass medias use of such unrealistic images sends an implicit message to men and women that
to be considered good looking they must partake in unhealthy diets, extreme exercises and
unhealthy body modification enhancers, which in turn can have detrimental effects on one s health.
Such standards of beauty and appearance are almost completely unattainable for most men and
women and most of the models displayed on television and in advertisements is

Essay on Mill s Principles in His Work On Liberty
Mill s Principles in His Work On Liberty
John Stuart Mill was born in London in 1806, the son of the philosopher James Mill. James Mill
was a close friend of Jeremy Bentham, the founder of utilitarianism (the theory that states that the
right course of action is the course which generates the most happiness). Bentham and James Mill
educated J. S. Mill rigorously, to such an extent that he began reading Ancient Greek at age 3. He
was reading Plato s Dialogues at age 13 in their original form. His father trained him in political
economy, philosophy, the classics and many other intellectual subject areas.
Mill was an active philosopher. He was a member of the philosophical radicals (a group ... Show

So therefore the LP must be applied to everyone in a society for it to be legitimate.
The LP has many subsections which allow it to work; to just leave people free to do as they
please does not make a society legitimate. In fact, this would horrify Mill, because he is particularly
worried about the tyranny of the majority, and in this society an irrational majority could easily
exact a tyranny upon the rational minority as there would be no safeguards or restraints. The LP
is put into place to stop this happening. Mill is interested in the restrictions that law is allowed to
place on people, but he is also interested in the moral and social pressure that can be exerted by
society upon individuals. He doesn t want people to blindly follow custom.[1]
One of the sections of the LP is the harm principle (HP). This principle states that there are two
kinds of acts that a person can do. The first kind are self regarding acts, which only affect the
individual who is doing the self regarding act, for example using drugs to get high alone in your
house.[2] The other kind are other regarding acts, which affect other people, for example shooting
someone in the face. A society is only legitimate when it restricts other regarding acts, and doesn t
touch self regarding acts, as these acts are part of the private sphere. There are problems with this
however. As mentioned in the

Piave s Tone In Act I Of Rigoletto
This vulnerable tone in Act II comes as a surprise from the playboy character we see in Act I. In
Act I of Rigoletto, Piave emphasizes an apathetic tone in order to reveal the sameness of all
women, giving them lesser value than men. As Borsa and the Duke discuss Ceprano s wife, the
Duke declares in his first aria that this woman or that is the same as the many others [he] see[s]
around [him] (I.1). The author uses this language of commonality with words like same and many
in order to help the audience understand the nonchalant tone. Piave reveals that the Duke thinks of
women as disposable objects. This direct contradiction from his caring spirit toward Gilda in Act II
to his apathetic tone in Act I reveals a huge shift in the tone. The Duke makes a huge generalization
about an entire genderinstead of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This generalization erases the identity of all women. He sees women as physically attractive but
he does not see them as continuously captivating. Toward the middle of the aria, the Duke
emphasizes the sameness of women saying, If today this woman pleases me, perhaps tomorrow it
will be another (I.1). The general, unspecific terms the Duke gives in this sentence structure such
as this woman and another reveals a calm, indifferent tone. The Duke does not name a specific
woman or even a name eliminating their unique qualities. Piave depicts women as disposable and
easily replaceable in the Duke s eyes. In other words, they are attractive and entertaining for a
moment but, after a little while they cease to be useful. Lastly, at the end of the aria, the Duke
emphasizes the unimportance of women declaring that There is no love, if there is no freedom. He
deride[s] the jealous fury of husbands, and the ravings of lovers (I.1). To consolidate his point,
the Duke, in a logical manner, explains that love is freedom and he has no desire to be bound to a
specific woman. He ridicules men who become jealous and try to restrain him from being with their

The Battle of Hastings
The Battle of Hastings Why Did William Win?
On the 14th of October 1066, Duke William of Normandy defeated King Harold at the Battle of
Hastings. His win could be summed up by the fact that William was a better leader. Other factors
that contributed to William s victory include: William was better prepared, the English army was
severely weakened as Harold had just fought off an invasion in the North of England, and Harold
made a fatal mistake of prematurely entering the Battle of Hastings.
William was a better leader because although Harold had the upper hand in the battle and they were
losing, William managed to outwit and defeat the English. In the Bayeux Tapestrythere is a scene
depicting that in the days preceding the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he was victorious in both of them, his troops were exhausted and did not have
sufficient energy to perform at their best. At the beginning of the battle, he managed get a good
advantage he positioned his troops on top of a hill, making it difficult for William to get to his
army and attack him. However, towards the end of the battle, William set a trap to draw Harold
from his strong position and he fell for it. Once they were on even ground, Harold s exhausted
troops could not counter the attacks from William s well trained and nourished army.
The biggest mistake Harold made was entering the Battle of Hastings too early. Harold lost some
of his best fighters at the Battle of Stamford Bridge earlier that day and the rest of his army were
tired out from their previous battle. When they finally arrived in the South, he was
overconfident that he could win this battle because of his recent victories. Because of his
misjudgement, he decided to rush into battle with exhausted and unprepared troops. Towards the
end of the battle, he fell for the trap that William had set, seeing as he was tired and his troops
couldn t wait to finish them off and get a good rest. If he had given his army only a few days rest
and fed them like William had to his troops, his chances of winning the battle would have been a lot
higher.

The Environment Of A Soil Ecosystem
A soil ecosystem is composed of both living and non living matter with a diversity of interactions
(The Environmental Literacy Council, N.d.). This is a place where energy and matter are
transformed and transported. Analyses that can be used to assess the functioning of land
ecosystems is abiotic indicators, biological indicators, and atmospheric indicators. Abiotic
indicators can include pH, moisture, and temperature. Soiltemperature and moisture are important
environmental factors that affect the conservation and physiology of earthworms (M.L. Presley et
al, 1996). Biological indicators can include earthworms, plants, and leaf litter. Atmospheric
indicators include carbon dioxideemissions. Interactions among these three indicators can also
help to assess if the ecosystem is functioning. It is hypothesized that a functioning ecosystem is
related to many types of interactions, such as earthworms eating leaf litter and leaf litter falling
from the plants. It is predicted that IU has good soil quality based on the fact is is near Jordan
River, and there is a diversity of plant life growing. What is the ecosystem s quality based on the
interactions between leaf litter, soil, and worms? The ecosystem is claimed to be functioning based
on the biomass of the earthworms and leaf litter and the pH, moisture, and temperature of the soil.

through the actions of the characters. Don John from Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing

Christian should not behave. Don John is morose while God calls us to be joyful, he attempts to

responsibility for his actions while Christ freely took on responsibility for the actions of all

The Republican Party
The Republican party is one of the two major POLITICAL PARTIES in the United States, the
other being the DEMOCRATIC PARTY party. It is popularly known as the GOP, from its earlier
nickname Grand Old Party. From the time it ran its first PRESIDENTIAL candidate, John C.
Fremont, in 1856, until the inauguration of Republican George BUSH in 1989, Republican
presidents occupied the WHITE HOUSE for 80 years. Traditionally, Republican strength came
primarily from New England and the Midwest. After World War II, however, it greatly increased in

The new party was a success from the beginning. In the 1854 congressional elections 44
Republicans were elected as a part of the anti Nebraskan majority in the HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES, and several Republicans were elected to the SENATE and to various state
houses. In 1856, at the first Republican national convention, Sen. John C. Fremont was nominated
for the presidency but was defeated by Democrat James BUCHANAN. During the campaign the
northern wing of the KNOW NOTHING PARTY split off and endorsed the Republican ticket,
making the Republicans the principal antislavery party.
Two days after the inauguration of James Buchanan, the Supreme Court handed down the Dred
Scott v. Sandford decision, which increased sectional dissension and was denounced by the
Republicans. At this time the nation was also gripped by economic chaos. Business blamed tariff
reductions, and Republican leaders called for greater tariff protection. The split in the Democratic
party over the issue of slavery continued, and in 1858 the Republicans won control of the House of
Representatives for the first time. One Republican who failed that year was Abraham LINCOLN,
defeated in his bid for a U.S. Senate seat by Stephen A. Douglas.

Economic Growth and Development
ECONOMIC GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Introduction
Economies grow and develop, they expand and advance, and they progress and prosper. There are
phases when they decline too, and there are economies that experience continuous decay. If one
considers long stretches of human history, one knows that economies (civilizations) disappeared
altogether. We will not take into account such long stretches of time. We shall not consider too
distant a past either. We will leave them to historians, may be, economic historians.
Let us take a normal view. We shall then accept decline as an occasional, temporary phenomenon.
We shall, therefore, use positive terms only. Of the positive terms, which have been used to
describe changes as well as to prescribe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The growth rate is often expressed in terms of per cent per annum. This is a positive change; there
could be a negative change also.
Suppose, we look at a twenty year period and use yearly figures for flow of output of goods,
which is measured in terms of GDPFC at constant prices. The growth rates calculated on yearly
basis would differ from year to year. Shall we use nineteen year to year figures of growth rate,
some of which may be negative, to describe the change? Or, should we just compare the initial
figure with the final figure? If we adopt the former, how to summarise the nineteen figures? If
we adopt the latter, it is possible that one of these (initial or final) figures is just abnormal as it
does not fall in line. Would it not be a good idea to speak of general tendency and ignore abnormal
fluctuations around the general tendency of increase? Economic growth should, therefore, be
taken as a long term tendency reflected by increase in flow of final goods and services produced by
the economy.
If there is a general tendency of growth but there are occurrences of decline, the rates of growth
will be negative in certain years. Shall we then say that, while the potential of economy to produce
is continuously increasing, the potential is sometimes not realised? There could be various reasons
for occasional decline. In economies that depend to a large extent on external trade

The Pros And Cons Of Philanthropy In American Society
The gilded age was a period where great industrial growth shrouded out the financial and political
corruption it also brought forth. During this era, the largely agricultural economy, in which
farmers were the source of most products, transformed into an industrial economy, where those
farmers were replaced by factories. The labor leaders of this era were cheered for their efforts, but
they were also criticized for their methods. Because of these positives and negatives, the public had
very mixed views on them. They often came from humble origins, and along their road to wealth
used methods that were inhumane, such as driving competitors out of business, and caring little for
their employees. Modern corporations are thought to have initiated with railroads, as they had so
many employees that middle management was needed. The rails also spanned over the country,
and the businesses in their entirety were so large that they didn t have enough money for tracks and

Captains of industry were business giants who, despite some shady dealings, helped usher in the
modern economy, and were praised for their acts for humanity. They made life in America better

Charlie Chaplin The Great Dictator Analysis
The Great Dictator made in 1940, written, produced, and directed, by Charlie Chaplin: was then a
controversial film because it exposed Nazism and anti Semitism with humor. The film is composed
of some silent film s methods such as muted gestures, and mimes, but this film was Chaplin s first
true sound film. Chaplin s film was a stroke of genius, he interprets the horrors happening in
Germany throughout WWII in an ironic but also elegant way. In the film, the main subject is Adolf
Hitlerand the rise of European fascism.
I found the film meaningful, it was a controversial topic back then. I believe the film did far greater
good than harm because it encourages independent thought. Chaplin s ability to be serious was not
limited to his humor, yet he intelligently transports the sadistic nature of the event portrayed in the
film and the monstrosities of the Holocaust. The Great Dictator , was the representation of the war
and dictatorship. I think it s a good thing to make light of something like the Nazis because it
provides one of the most effective ways to examine basic moral issues without the negative
commutation.
The Holocaust was a tragedy that occurred because of the immense power the Nazis had.
Individuals, governments, and organizations made choices that induced legalized discrimination,
prejudice, mass murder, and hatred. The film was directed in a way that allows the viewers to get

Lady Capulet in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet Essay
Lady Capulet in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet
A woman during the 16th century did not have the freedoms that a woman today enjoys. During
Shakespeare s life wives were not allowed the independence they take pleasure in today. Therefore,
the role of the mother for Juliet in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is not commanding or
authoritative because of the time period Shakespeare lived.
The role of a wife must be looked at in order to understand and appreciate Juliet s mother. When a
couple was married during the 16th century, Susan Amussen said it was the beginning of a
partnership, but not one of equal proportions. The husband is awarded all the power in the family.

As a woman, Lady Capulet can relate to how Juliet feels when she is told she is to marry Paris.
However, as a wife, she cannot voice an opinion of who or when Juliet is to marry. She is
experienced, and asks Juliet, Speak briefly: can you like of Paris love (1.3.98). Because she is
the caretaker, she respects Juliet s feelings, but she can do nothing, even if Juliet does not learn to
love Paris. Perhaps she asks this question because her own mother never asked it. She may want to
know her daughter s opinion, because until a woman is married, she has all the rights of a man
according to Pitt. However, the father ruled over his daughter, and it was virtually impossible to
remain unmarried while the father held all the decision making (14).
An ideal wife during the 16th century, according to author Barnaby Rich is, A friend for
pleasure, a servant for profit, a counselor to advise him, a comforter to cherish him, and a
companion to solace him (115). That is exactly what Lady Capulet is to her husband. She is the
one who has to inform Juliet about her wedding to Paris. Capulet has the power to choose whom
their daughter will marry, but it is the wife who is given the job to tell Juliet. Capulet says, Go
you to Juliet ere you go to bed. Prepare her, wife, against this wedding day (3.4.31 32). As the
obeying wife of the time, she does as she is told.

Engineer Leader Research Paper
In this paper I will explain what it takes to be an Engineer leader. This brief over view will touch
on some of the Engineer leaders of the past. You will see the positive influences that these leaders
had on the Army; specifically the Engineer Corps, setting traditions, raising morale, even making
jokes with the President, while they were in the service. These innovators that will be discussed
continue to shape our militaryeven today. Teaching our current soldiers about the significant
contributions of our past Engineer Corp leaders would not only boost morale and increase pride,
but give a better understanding on what impacts the Corps of Engineers had during periods of war
and during peace time.

Marshall was selected to be Chief of Engineers and had multiple accomplishments that would
make any engineer proud. He was sort of known for being a big guy at weighing in at 300 pounds.
Even at that weight, he was asked to be the Chief of Engineers by President Theodore Roosevelt.
The only stipulation was that he needed to complete a 90 mile ride. BG Marshall was honored
to be selected and responded with if you have a horse that will carry my 300 pounds for 90
miles, I guarantee to stay on top of him (Headquarters, 2000) President Roosevelt boosted back
about how the cavalry stays fit and was met with a how an engineer does work with another end of
his body (Headquarters, 2000). Some of the accomplishments of BG Marshall included an
expedition through the Rockies which resulted in a mountain pass in Colorado being named after
him. River and canal projects in Mississippi, Wisconsin, and in Illinois. After retirement he

Quality Assurance Meeting At Present
Quality Assurance Meeting
At present, the convening of this group is to assess a particular never event that occurred in
Huntsville Hospital last month. The National Quality Forum literally defines a never event as a
preventable adverse event occurring in a health care setting that should never happen; like, wrong
site surgery, patient falls, and medication errors as examples (Gitlow et al., 2013). Discussion,
explanations and resolutions are the intended outcome of today s meeting.
Never Event
On June 3, 2015, the staff in the cardiovascular surgical suite (CVOR) allowed a patient to fall to
the floor when transferring the patient from the operating table to the patient bed, following
coronary artery bypass surgery. Regrettably, the patient endured facial fractures, however,
fortunately there was no harm to the surgical procedure on the coronary arteries, head, lungs,
drains, chest tubes or anywhere else. Present in the surgical suite for the period of the incident
included two certified nurse anesthetists, two scrub technicians, one registered nurse, and one
physician s assistant. Following the closure of the surgical site, the appropriate dressings were
applied, the cardiothoracic surgeon left the surgical theater, and the patient was transferred to the
patient bed when the never event occurred.
Discussion
The opinions of the physicians, staff and management present at today s meeting exist as
uncontrollable patient factors and controllable environmental factors.

Quality Assurance
Quality Assurance Approach
White box testing approach is used to ensure the quality of the components in the web application.
This is essentially done by the developers who have implemented the requirements and have
knowledge of the functionality. In addition, during the iterative development the business analysts
who have written the business use case are also involved in this white box testing when the
component is fully implemented. This quality control process eventually leads to assurance of
quality. The QA process also verifies all documents are available in the project repository. This
includes the versioned project plan, weekly bug lists i.e. open and closed bugs, enhancement
request that need to go through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The record is maintained in a tabular format and the corrective actions are planned to create new
revisions of the project artifacts. If the requirements were not met as expected by the use cases, then
the revision is part of the iterative development. If the formative evaluation results in changes to the
original requirement, then the change is processed through the change control management plan.
For example, one of the requirement mentioned that the time zone option list should show up only
if the transfer reason was time zone change. While this passed the unit test during formative testing,
the business user then realized, the service request could have a different reason like manager
discretion and still need time zone alignment. So, the business user created a change request to
remove the dependency of showing the time zone option list and instead show it all the time.
Another change was made to the notification message in case of rejection of a transfer request. The
business user, during formative testing, realized that a message of rejection sounds demoralizing,
so it was decided to change the message to indicate that the request has been closed as it needs
more information. The idea was to soften the blow of not doing what the engineer wanted. Since
this was a minor change in text, it was incorporated without additional budgeting.
Summative Evaluation Plan
At the end of the project,

Theories Of Self Efficacy And Self Esteem Essay
Psychologist Albert Bandura has defined self efficacy as one s belief in one s ability to succeed in
specific situations or accomplish a task. One s sense of self efficacy can play a major role in how
one approaches goals, tasks, and challenges (Bandura, Albert 1995). Self Efficacy and Self
esteem are a lot alike in regards to an individual s belief in their ability to succeed at a task. Self
esteem plays a big role in determining how an individual performs in the classroom. Individuals
with high self esteem do better in school as opposed to their peers with low self esteem who do
not perform as well. Individuals with high self esteem have a high locus of controland utilize
healthy coping strategies. In contrast, individuals with low self esteem have a low locus of control
depend on unhealthy coping strategies, such as self handicapping. Students with an internal locus
of control obtain higher test scores and credit their academic success to internal factors as oppose to
those with an external locus of control who more often blame or credit the concept of luck or fate.
Students with an external locus of control believe that no matter how much they study, if they are
meant to pass a test they will. Self handicapping refers to a performance debilitating characteristic,
which has been consistently associated with negative outcomes which in student populations such
as academic under achievement and poor psychological adjustment. Research suggests that locus of

It is an organism and a term that we hear all the time. But I did not realize until now that a
freshwater mussel is actually a clam. A freshwater mussel is actually just another name for a
clam, and scientists like to use big terms to make animals or whatever they are talking about
sound more fancy than it really is. A clam is a bivalve mollusk and most of them are dioecious,
which means that they have separate sexes. Some mollusks are hermaphroditic. The life cycle of
many mollusks includes a free swimming, ciliated larval stage called a trochophore. This is the
form that normally gets infected by parasites as they swim through the water. Freshwater mussels

Why Should Human Cloning Be Banned
Introduction Cloning is the process of manipulating DNA and embryonic stem cells to create an
identical living organism. The purpose of cloning is to find medical treatments and to reduce
human suffering (Rosalyn). Is it wrong? Is it disrespectful toward nature itself? According to Sir
John Gordon, cloningis not as playing God it is simply copying what nature has already produced
(Gordon). This new development established a series of debates because if there are technologies
that enable humans to artificially create mammal, sooner or later the same process will be
performed on human. This points to the question, should human cloning be banned? (Cloning: An

Overtime the fusions between cells occur and form an embryo. This could lead to the transfer of
healthy cell in an unborn child who contains diseases due to genetics from the parents.
Unfortunately the research was banned. There are a lot of obstacles standing between the
researches of human cloning that could possibly save many lives.
Diseases such as Alzheimer and cardiovascular diseases can be cured by the process of cloning.
Scientists have discovered a method of creating stem cells (an unspecialized cell that has the
ability to become any various differentiated cell) from an embryo. Genetic copies of DNA from a
living healthy person are inserted into an egg which divides in the process of cell division or
meiosis, and grows into an embryo. If the process is successful, stem cells are then extracted, with
the healthy gene placed in the DNA, the cells can divides and produce a healthful system. This
whole procedure is for the purpose of improving treatment. However, this action puts fear into a lot
of people s minds of using stem cells for other purposes (Healy). Stem cells can be produced for the
desire of new treatments has the potential to fight viruses in the human system and the prosperity
will soon outweighed the terror of human cloning.
Therapeutic cloning has the potential use stem cells to cure diseases. Although there are many
benefits the process of obtaining stem cells depends upon the massacre of the embryo. Nonetheless

  • 2. Proclamation Of 1763 Was Offensive To The Colonists Proclamation of 1763 Forbade all American settlement West of the Appalachian Mountains to appease the Natives. The Proclamation was offensive to the Colonists because the Colonists thought they deserved the land after fighting with the British in the Seven Years War. Colonists rebelled against this and settled on the land anyways . The Proclamation was significant because it was one of the first times that Americans were being restricted by the Crown. Virtual Representation Stated that Parliament members spoke on behalf of all British subjects instead of the interests of one region. Colonists were angered by this because they knew that Parliament has British interests as the highest priority instead of the colonies. Colonists also felt... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The committee organized responses to England led by Patriots. The committee promoted patriotism and home manufacturing in an effort to boycott Britain s trade. This was significant because the committee helped impose and influence patriot views on American and encouraged citizens to rebel against Great Britain. Lexington and Concord The first military battles of the American Revolutionary War. British men were tasked with seizing arms in Concord. The minutemen and redcoats crossed paths in Lexington and Britain was forced to retreat back to Boston. This was a major victory for the Patriots which bolstered their confidence and influenced other people to join the Patriot cause because they had a fighting chance. Bunker Hill The area near Boston where colonists fortified Bunker Hill which overlooked Boston. From the hill, the Colonists easily fight the town and the British ships near them. By morning the Americans had soldiers ready at cannons posed at the British. Eventually Britain were able to take charge of the hill but twice the British soldiers died in comparison to the Colonists. Boeing 787 The Pennsylvania State University Department of Industrial amp; Manufacturing Engineering IE466: Concurrent Engineering Individual Homework #1 Boeing 787: The Dreamliner Boeing 787: The Dreamliner Case Study (download from Angel) During the past decade, Boeing watched as their competitor, Airbus, launched several new and very successful aircraft. In 2004, Airbus surpassed Boeing in commercial airplanes delivered and future orders placed. This is the first time that Boeing has ever lost its leading market share. The 787 is the first new airplane that Boeing has introduced to the market in a decade. This case study examines how the 787 is strategically transforming Boeing s approach to aircraft ... How does the approach used for the 787 s development differ fundamentally from other airplane projects undertaken by Boeing? The approach that Boeing 787 took was fundamentally different than other airplane projects undertaken by Boeing. Boeing built 70% of the products of Boeing 787 from different countries of the world. Boeing has a long standing reputation to be secretive with their projects, so it was a big step for Boeing to break their privacy and work with a group of people across geographical boundaries. 35% of the plane s structure was supplied from Japan. Approximately, 26% of the products were supplied from Italy. There were teams of 15 companies responsible for the structure of the plane, 10 teams from USA and the rest from seven other countries. A lot of the other products were also ordered from different parts of the world, including the vertical fin from Frederickson as well as the fixed and movable leading edges of the wing from Tulsa. Once all the parts were built, they were sent back to USA for the assembly. Also, 787 would be the first aircraft of its kind to bring long range capabilities to a midsized airplane. It was also the first time Boeing had its structural suppliers fund their own research and development so that suppliers had a greater ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Compare Utopia And A Man For All Seasons In Utopia and A Man for All Seasons, written by Thomas More, More analyses politics through different perspective. More travels to Antwerp as an ambassador for England and King Henry the VIII. Here More is introduced to Raphael Hythloday, a veteran traveler. Hythloday has a great depth of knowledge and understanding of governments of many nations and in the book it recounts their conversations.Utopia gives readers insight in the the ways politics are influenced and through More s and Raphael s experience one can notice the different ways persuasion is used with in politics. Raphael s story about theft and punishment can be used to note how to persuade advisors to the Kings, and More s ideas between civilized and academic advice can be used to persuade the King. In A Man for All Seasons, More is faced with the decision to save his life or protect his integrity. Raphael s and More discuss the effects of why the punishment for thievery is unnecessary and ultimately ineffective when it comes to solving the problem. This conversation depicts a perfect way in which advisors can be persuaded to a contrasting idea, because Morton, head advisor to the King, doesn t believe in the new way Raphael thinks thievery should be punished but then is convinced by parts of Raphael s ideas. More brings up the idea that the most effective way to influence public affairs is to gain the confidence of some great king and give him advice (20). Raphael s disagrees, Kings are more interested in the science of war than in useful peacetime techniques (20). Though Raphael doesn t believe going directly to the king to advise, he also sees many problems with the councillors. Advisors are either too wise to need, or too conceited to take advice from anyone else (20). Raphael brings up that he has even seen this in England, which transitions their conversion into the punishment for thievery. Raphael believes that the death penaltyis too severe, and as a deterrent it s quite ineffective (22). Most steal when they are desperate and no penalty on earth will stop people, and it would be more effective to provide everyone with some means of livelihood so that they wouldn t steal in the first place (22). • 5. Generation Gap In Into The Wild The Generation Gap Picture this: you are twenty two years old. You just graduated from college and you are about to start your first real job. You need money desperately to pay off your mountainous pile of student debt but more importantly, your phone just broke this morning when you were ordering your daily low fat, non dairy mocha macchiato and you need to buy the new iPhone. You haven t been able to check Twitter in over three hours and the anxiety of not knowing what new offensive tweet from your newest president, Donald Trump, says is eating you alive. You call your parents for help because maybe, just maybe, they will help you out with money this one last time and of course they do... This is the typical life of over seventy five million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, parents who grew up in the south and learned racism disowned their daughter because she was dating a black boy. This is an extreme case in how racism among generations can ruin a family, but sadly, this is something that happens all the time. Another example of differing viewpoints by generation in a family can be seen in Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer when Chris McCandless strongly disagrees about what the meaning of life is; his father believes it s all about the material goods and having money but Chris believes that it s about finding peace with yourself without the outside influence of media or society. A more specific example of this is when Chris father offered to buy Chris a new car but he did not want it because he already had a car that worked perfectly fine (Krakauer 20). Millennials are more open to equality and diversity.60% of millennials say that interracial marriage is a change for the better while only 29% of baby boomers say that it is a good thing. Perhaps this could be because of the creation of social media. By being connected to whoever you want whenever you want, you are able to share ideas and information instantaneously. This is a great way to spread culture and beliefs. By exposing themselves to and becoming familiar with the culture of other people, you become more accepting and comfortable with that group of people that may be foreign to ... • 6. The Invisible Man Analysis The story The Invisible Man is written by Ralph Ellison. The author takes his personal experiences as an ignored man and creates this character that shows the characteristics of a man whom few people would stop to acknowledge. This story can be seen as a symbol of an educated black man whose life has been controlled and oppressed by a white society. Throughout the story one will notice that the man is nameless. The is because the narrator in The Invisible Manis invisible not only to others but himself as well because of racismand trying to live up to expectations of others. There are certain tools that are given to him by outsiders and things he will use that will ultimately develop him into student and man. The author has written about events that made the invisible manwho he was. It is important to notice that the invisible man has been searching for his identity the whole time and will later discover that his identity is in those things he has always had. This story also uses appeal of pathetic to grab the reader s attention. Throughout the story the author, Ralph Ellison, struggles to attempt to uncover the invisible man s identity that is buried beneath oppression. It is important to understand that the invisible man is an African American male who sates that he is only looked down on because of his skin color (Ellison). Ralph Ellison goes in detail by showing us how lies can be seen as an obstacle to anyone s journey of finding himself and his true identity. These obstacles are expressed in Ralph Ellison s usage of symbols and imagery portrays those obstacles. The man is faced with these obstacles of deception in his ability to make his own life, but instead is confined to live the life in white men s society. The purpose calls for action to the public to open their eyes to realize that racism is a problem that will not go away; it is something that must be forced to an end whereby men are willing to be themselves in the process. In the story, the narrator has set out to search for his true identity, but this idea of why he is blind to the world leads him to become blind in the process. I believe that it is important to focus on the significance of the man s living situation. The invisible man lives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Persuasive Essay Against Gun Violence GUN VIOLENCE IN THE US Against The Violence of Guns In today s society, so many people have hidden guns in their homes, whether it s for protection or for hunting or any reason and some of these people turn up in the news because their children somehow got to their gun. News all over the United States cover cases where bullied children or misunderstood children walk into a school with loaded guns and knowing exactly how to operate them and have the heart to kill many of their classmates. Often the case, the parents of these young children had no idea these children even knew where their guns were. In other cases, it is very easy to find a place where you can purchase a gun without state permit nor prior registration, facilitating the purchase of these guns. All over the world, guns are as simple to find as gum, and keeping one around your home is as safe as it is dangerous because it isn t about who has a gun, its about what they can do with it. Although everyone s reason for owning guns is for safety only, there are different methods of protection that are safer than having a gun that can cause more damage than safety, and also many reasons not to own one at all. Throughout US History, there has been many amendments put in place that have put peoples lives in danger. The 2nd amendment talks about how people have the right to keep a gun in their house for a security reasons. This amendment gave way for the militias, who are groups of people who protected their towns, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Florence s mother Frances Nightingale was from a family of merchants and enjoyed socializing with people of prominent social standing. Florence was the exact opposite; she avoided anything where she was the center of attention. Florence s father William Shore Nightingale was a wealthy landowner. Her father was able to provide Florence with the best education. Florence Nightingale was always trying to help anyone around her, even from a young age. She ministered to the ill and poor people. Soldiers lay in their own body fluids on stretchers throughout the hallways as pests ran about. Supplies dwindled due to the increase in patients, even water was being rationed. Florence set to work quickly. Her team and the wounded that were mobile, scrubbed the entire hospital. Florence spent a great deal of her time caring for the soldiers. She quickly gained the nick name the lady with the lamp and the angel of Crimea because she walked the halls at night with a lamp, while caring for the soldiers. The death rate dropped by two thirds because she improved the sanitary conditions of the hospital. In addition to improving sanitary conditions, she also created a number of different patient services to improve the quality of their hospital stay including, meal services, laundry, and classroom services. Florence stayed in Crimea for a year and a half. She left once the war had ended. When she left in 1856, she was welcomed back with a hero s welcome. She was rewarded by the Queen with an engraved brooch, which later came to be known as Nightingale Jewel, and also receiving $250,000 from the British government. Florence used the money to open the St. Thomas Hospital, and the Nightingale Training School for Nurses. • 11. The Villain Of Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald The Villain of Gatsby Here s the thing about stories; they re all different, but they re all the same. Now, everyone knows how they re different. Different letters make up different words which make up different sentences. It s this difference that allows for multiple stories to be told. The other side of stories is much less understood. They re all the same. This can be seen through the examination of archetypes, most importantly the hero vs the villain. It can be seen in every tale imaginable. Every batman has a joker, Luke will always face Darth Vader, and the mailman and dog will wage war to the end of time. It is by examining stories through these archetypes that it becomes easier to see their similarities. When it comes to The Great Gatsby, however, things become much more complicated. The story, complete with layers of deception, lust, and corruption blurs the traditional archetypes that a reader looks for in a story. When the individual qualities of the characters are examined, however, their roles can become much clearer. Through his obsession, his false identity, and his selfish attitude Jay Gatsby is the villain of F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. The term hopeless romantic isn t typically associated with villainous behaviors. You don t see Romeo compared to Cruella De Ville fairly often. But when you look at Jay Gatsby, his romanticism, and more importantly his obsession, leads to the collapse of the story. Unfortunately for him, Gatsby allows one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Design A Task For A Grade Classroom For our GeoGebra lesson, Ashley and I decided to design a task for a 1st grade classroom. This 1st grade lesson required students to partition circles, and possibly rectangles, into halves and fourths using the idea of fair sharing with the tools provided by GeoGebra. We went with this idea assuming that students have had previous experiences with GeoGebra and with fair sharing, perhaps with friends or siblings for example. We divided up the work evenly and worked on our sections on our own, asking for help if needed. This assignment provided me the opportunities to practice implementing the mathematical teachingmethods I have been learningabout in my classes, work with a fellow classmate that has had more experience in the classroom, and work on what it may look like to develop a mathematical task that is centered on a piece of technology like GeoGebra. A practice all teachers should rehearse, prepare for, and become masters at is quality questioning. When writing our lessonplan, we were prompted to think of questions that would allow for extension, check for understanding, provide differentiation, lead students in developing an understanding of the key ideas included in the lesson, guide students through the lesson by scaffolding their learning, and help to clear up misconceptions that existed. As one can see, planning for the types of questions to ask and anticipating the types of responses that would come in turn, encompassed a large portion of our prepping our ... • 13. The Major Causes Of The American Civil War The American Civil War, the issue of a longstanding controversy over slavery, began in April 1861. The continuance of the American Civil War was about 4 years 3 weeks and 6 days (April 12,1861 May 9, 1865). The war took place in the Southern United States, Northeastern United States, Western United States and nearer to the Atlantic Ocean. The war was in between the United States and the Confederate states. After the election of Abraham Lincolnas president in the year 1860, the antislavery attitude of the president caused seven southern states to secede from the Union to form the Confederate States of Americaand later on four more joined with them. The major causes that directed the American Civil Warwere slavery, sectionalism, protectionism, states right, territorial crisis, and national elections. The Civil War turned out to be the costliest war ever fought on American soil. The triumph of the Unions against the Confederates abolished slavery. At the same the victory also directed toward the preservation of U.S territorial integrity and beginning of the reconstruction era. General William Sherman was an extraordinary general in the history of the United States Army. William Sherman was born in 1820 in Lancaster, Ohio. • 14. Gender Roles In Murasaki Shikibu Genji In Murasaki Shikibu Nikki, the author says: To be pleasant, gently, calm and self possessed: this is the basis of good taste and charm in a woman (Shirane, 450). Women were supposed to act a certain way, and this diary specifies the boundaries clearly. Most of this is because she herself was the object of criticism from those around her, despite the popularity of her tales. Another tip from her is No matter how amorous or passionate you may be, as long as you are straightforward and refrain from causing others embarrassment, no one will mind (450). If you do not follow society s guidelines, you will be judged in every movement you make, and people will find fault with whatever [you] say or do; whether it be how [you] enter a room, how [you] sit down, how [you] stand up or how [you] take [your] leave (451). She goes on about how she is regarded by others because of how much she knows, and the rumors that spread about her. People generally think she is worth making fun of and talking about because she knows Chinese and because she referenced the Chronicles of Japan, a classic text about Japan, in The Tale of Genji(451). The Changelings is an interesting monogatari from this time period. The story revolves around two characters who fall into gender roles different from their sex. • 16. The Benefits Of Marching Band Many people can t see the benefits obtained by being in marching band. If one s social life isn t very strong, and they aren t very extroverted, marching band is a great solution. My band, the Deltona High School Blue Brigade, greatly encouraged bonding among band members because band is a family, not just a musicgroup. Marching bandis also a sport. It s a team effort, requiring a lot of physical exertion, and it gives a sense of competition. Marching band also teaches some hierarchy, which is a useful thing to know in the workforce. Another important aspect of band is that it s a really good experience. It may be stressful at times, but it is definitely worth it. Having been in band for seven years, I can confirm all of this. Because I have ADHD and Asperger Syndrome, I find it very hard to speak out and socialize. But since I was in marching band in high school, I found that I was more social. People aren t supposed to talk in the middle of rehearsal, but that didn t stop the members of my band from bonding outside of practice time. Band definitely changed the life of a friend of mine. When I first met him in middle school, he was so shy, he was virtually silent. Thanks to his experience in band, he now often speaks his mind. Marching band can help many people become more social. After all, band isn t just a group of people who play music. Band is a family. A team sport includes two things: physical exertion and team effort. Marching band is both of these things. It s ... I chose the painting, Slave Ship by Joseph Turner, due to the chaos I see in the painting. Not only is the event being portrayed very chaotic, but the painting itself is full of turmoil as well. The painting has vigorous brush strokes and the colors seem to melt together in areas, leaving the sky and the sea hard to distinguish in the middle portion of the painting. The artist also uses bright and dark colors, allowing the creation of pandemonium that I feel when I see this work. You can see the beginning of a storm on the left of the painting along with a boat heading into the rougher waters caused by the weather, resulting in the bow to be propelled upward. The bottom portion of the painting is topsy turvy as well, showing shackled hands and chains raised from the turbulent seas. With close inspection, you can see fish within the thrashing waves on the bottom left portion of the painting. There are fish seen swarming a shackled hand in the bottom right portion of the work as well. One could possibly argue that the fish are sea monsters. I also see something that s hard for me to make out, but I think it may be an emergency boat partially emerged from the waters. Lastly, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Power Of The Fittest By Richard M Emerson Essay POWER DEPENDENCE RELATION INTRODUCTION When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful Malala Yousafzai Power is a term that breaks all boundaries and establishes its intensity. The concept of power has pre domitantly existed in the society. It has become the prerogative of human survival as power has become the ticket to suppress others and move ahead in the society. As Charles Darwin formulated the theory of survival of the fittest the very nature of power becomes evident. Richard M Emerson an formulated the famous Power Dependence relation on the basis of these paramaters. In the very beginning of his theory Emerson states that there is an existence of ambiguities surrounding the terms power , authority , legitimacy and power structures .The Power Dependence relations attempts to bring about a sense of balance. According to this theory, the dependence a person has on another brings up the concept of power .1 Emerson brings forth a similar concept as presented by Max Weber whose presentation was basically a typology rather than an organized theory of power. Emerson brings about an argument that says that social power is in dire needs of a systematic treatment. He criticizes the common norm of treating power as an attribute of a person or group. He also proceeds to rank order persons by some criterion of power and this ordering is called the power structure . So to wind it up in definable terms we can say ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The LP has many subsections which allow it to work; to just leave people free to do as they please does not make a society legitimate. In fact, this would horrify Mill, because he is particularly worried about the tyranny of the majority, and in this society an irrational majority could easily exact a tyranny upon the rational minority as there would be no safeguards or restraints. The LP is put into place to stop this happening. Mill is interested in the restrictions that law is allowed to place on people, but he is also interested in the moral and social pressure that can be exerted by society upon individuals. He doesn t want people to blindly follow custom.[1] One of the sections of the LP is the harm principle (HP). This principle states that there are two kinds of acts that a person can do. The first kind are self regarding acts, which only affect the individual who is doing the self regarding act, for example using drugs to get high alone in your house.[2] The other kind are other regarding acts, which affect other people, for example shooting someone in the face. In Act I of Rigoletto, Piave emphasizes an apathetic tone in order to reveal the sameness of all women, giving them lesser value than men. As Borsa and the Duke discuss Ceprano s wife, the Duke declares in his first aria that this woman or that is the same as the many others [he] see[s] around [him] (I.1). The author uses this language of commonality with words like same and many in order to help the audience understand the nonchalant tone. This is a place where energy and matter are transformed and transported. Analyses that can be used to assess the functioning of land ecosystems is abiotic indicators, biological indicators, and atmospheric indicators. Abiotic indicators can include pH, moisture, and temperature. Soiltemperature and moisture are important environmental factors that affect the conservation and physiology of earthworms (M.L. Interactions among these three indicators can also help to assess if the ecosystem is functioning. We shall not consider too distant a past either. We will leave them to historians, may be, economic historians. Let us take a normal view. The growth rates calculated on yearly basis would differ from year to year. Shall we use nineteen year to year figures of growth rate, some of which may be negative, to describe the change? Or, should we just compare the initial figure with the final figure? If we adopt the former, how to summarise the nineteen figures? If we adopt the latter, it is possible that one of these (initial or final) figures is just abnormal as it does not fall in line. The labor leaders of this era were cheered for their efforts, but they were also criticized for their methods. Because of these positives and negatives, the public had very mixed views on them. They often came from humble origins, and along their road to wealth used methods that were inhumane, such as driving competitors out of business, and caring little for their employees. Charlie Chaplin The Great Dictator Analysis The Great Dictator made in 1940, written, produced, and directed, by Charlie Chaplin: was then a controversial film because it exposed Nazism and anti Semitism with humor. The film is composed of some silent film s methods such as muted gestures, and mimes, but this film was Chaplin s first true sound film. Chaplin s film was a stroke of genius, he interprets the horrors happening in Germany throughout WWII in an ironic but also elegant way. In the film, the main subject is Adolf Hitlerand the rise of European fascism. I found the film meaningful, it was a controversial topic back then. I believe the film did far greater good than harm because it encourages independent thought. Chaplin s ability to be serious was not limited to his humor, yet he intelligently transports the sadistic nature of the event portrayed in the film and the monstrosities of the Holocaust. The Great Dictator , was the representation of the war and dictatorship. While this passed the unit test during formative testing, the business user then realized, the service request could have a different reason like manager discretion and still need time zone alignment. So, the business user created a change request to remove the dependency of showing the time zone option list and instead show it all the time. Another change was made to the notification message in case of rejection of a transfer request. The business user, during formative testing, realized that a message of rejection sounds demoralizing, so it was decided to change the message to indicate that the request has been closed as it needs more information. The idea was to soften the blow of not doing what the engineer wanted. Since this was a minor change in text, it was incorporated without additional budgeting. Diseases such as Alzheimer and cardiovascular diseases can be cured by the process of cloning. Scientists have discovered a method of creating stem cells (an unspecialized cell that has the ability to become any various differentiated cell) from an embryo. Genetic copies of DNA from a living healthy person are inserted into an egg which divides in the process of cell division or meiosis, and grows into an embryo.
