The And Health Diagnostics ( Diagnostics ) Essay
DuPont describes itself as, a science company with an extraordinary range of materials science,
chemistry, biological science and engineering capabilities, and a corresponding breadth of products.
(DuPont, 2016). The global company is made up of three different pillars of innovation including
food, energy, and protection. These main pillars cover a wide range of services and products that
DuPont provides its customers. Scientific breakthroughs and advancements allow DuPont to
constantly expand its capabilities and products. Therefore, new products are often created. Nutrition
and Health Diagnostics (Diagnostics) is a food safety business unit within the DuPont company that
focuses on food based pathogen detection systems. The business currently sells a system that uses
specific in house consumables to large food processing plants that can accurately detect the
presence of pathogens that are harmful for human consumption. This testing is required by the
United States government and most countries around the world. The system uses a polymerase
chain reaction (pCR) method that can detect the presence of bacteria in an industry leading four
hours. The accuracy and speed of this system allows major food processing plants to be very
efficient in their packaging and distributing of foods. The current system, the Q7, appeals to large
companies who can afford a top of the line system and the consumables that are necessary to run
multiple samples. The success of this

Active Denial System Paper
Active Denial System The Active Denial System (ADS) is an electromagnetic, directed energy,
non lethal weapon designed by the US military and built by Raytheon (Cumming, 2010). The
ADS works by producing 95GHz electromagnetic radiation that is focused in a beam at a target
(Wikipedia, 2014). These 3.2mm electromagnetic waves work on the same principal as a
microwave oven. The waves excite water and fat molecules instantly heating them through
dielectric heating (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to the extremely high frequency of these waves, the
energy from them is absorbed in within the first 0.4mm of skin, meaning they do not affect vital
organs, blood vessels or nerve endings (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to these attributes, and the results of
numerous studies, in which the worst injury inflicted by the ADS were pea sized blisters, with a 1
in 1000 chance of this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This becomes a major problem when there is a large amount of water in the environment. In a
situation with low humidity, the ADS has an effective operating range in excess of 500m
(Danyalov, 2014). The ADS though is adversely affected by weather conditions, such as fog, rain,
snow, sleet, and dust storms. The rain, fog, snow and sleet all reduce the range and effectiveness of
the beam by absorbing the radiation it produces. The dust storm reduces the range of the ADS, not
by absorbing the radiation, but by deflecting and dispersing it. Both of these situations mean that
the full power of the ray is no longer reaching its intended target, which may moderate the ADS s
sensation to warm and comfortable (Cumming, 2010). Along with aspects of the environment
blocking the device, it can be countered by very reflective material such as aluminium foil
(Cumming, 2010). Along with aluminium foil, a defence of sprinklers that produce a fine mist,
similar to fire defence systems found on rural homes, could be used to counter the

The Wrongful Conviction Of Juan Rivera
Written Assignment: The Wrongful Conviction of Juan Rivera
Aric Hermelin

Kimberly Costello
Part I On November 19th, 1993 Juan Rivera was convicted for the August 17th, 1992 rape and
murder of then eleven year old Holly Staker, who at the time was babysitting her two siblings
(University of Michigan Law School). His wrongful conviction was the result of failures by not
only the public, but also law enforcement personnel and the criminal justice system, as we will
further examine. According to the University of Michigan s Law School, Juan Rivera s initial
arrest came on October 26th after Lake County Police received a tip from an informant. Rivera was
then questioned for four days and at the end of the fourth day Rivera falsely confessed to Staker
s rape and murder (University of Michigan Law School). Following his confession, the two
interrogators went on to type a confession for Rivera to sign. After obtaining Rivera s signature,
however, the prosecutor found the narrative to be incohesive, and asked the interrogators to
correct it and to obtain Rivera s signature on the second written confession. Rivera s signature was
later obtained on October 30th (University of Michigan Law School). Of course, it is tough to
comprehend why a reasonable and innocent individual such as Mr. Rivera would confess to a crime
he did not commit (Gould). Upon further review, however, there were notable flaws as to how this
case was treated. To

Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions
Experimental Design
Question:
Which combinations produce an endothermic reaction or exothermic reaction that will create the
most change in temperature?
We will be taking multiple combinations to evaluating if they make an endothermic or exothermic
reaction.
Background
Purpose
To learn the difference between endothermic and exothermic reactions and the effects of different
compounds and how they react.
Research Questions
Which combinations are most high in energy?
How can you tell if a reaction is Endothermic or Exothermic?
Research
Every chemical reaction that exists is of two things, endothermic and exothermic. The definition of
thermic is taken by the greek root of therms meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In this table of results, we have describing temperatures and recording there happenings. But the
main results we are looking at are the change in temperature and whether they were endothermic or
exothermic.
Analysis
We both watched as combinations made both an Endothermic and Exothermic reaction.Vinegar and
baking soda, had greatest exothermic reaction. Why does those two react so greatly?
When they are mixed together, they start a chemical reaction that produces carbon dioxide, or
CO2, and water. The chemical names of the two ingredients are acetic acid, which is the vinegar,
and sodium bicarbonate, which is the baking soda.
Conclusion
As concluded at the end of the experiment,we have found that the combinations that not only had
the greatest change in temperature, but also big observations were Hydrogen peroxide and and

Day Before Thanksgiving
It s funny how things can seem one way, and really be something very different. During fifth
grade, just before Thanksgiving break, I was sitting in a middle school assembly. I was reading
something off of the screen, and my teacher asked me why I was squinting. I shrugged and
thought nothing of it for a while. A week later, I was sitting in her class, and I had to ask about
what was on the board. I don t remember what it was, but it was something pretty simple. She
was confused because I was a strong science student, but she started to explain it nonetheless. I
told her that I was wondering what was ON the board, and before I knew it I was at a vision
screening. I filled out a form, and a woman with coiffed blond hair was placing my eyes into...

I was spacing out, and I was in a really thoughtful mood. I realized that life is only what you
make of it. You can be horrified by something, but if you adopt the right attitude, it can make you
incredibly happy. Our very existence is really nothing more than a collection of thoughts,
memories, experiences that allow us to visualize our world. The world can be a dark, murky
place, but you can put it through a lens, and with the right tools you can see beauty in the darkest
of hours. I can no longer recognize faces or landscapes without glasses (everything just turns into
a big blobby mess), but once I put on my glasses, I can see all of the beautiful wonders of the
world, of life, of nature. I can see that I m getting really deep and philosophical, and so I can back
away with a fact. The human body is bioluminescent, which means that, like a firefly, you are a
shining beacon of light! Sadly, that light is far too weak to be visible and it disperses. But with the
appropriate tools, you can see the light that shines in every one of us, and so you too can be
enlightened by the sharpness of

What Are The Objectives Of The League Of Nations
Introduction
The League of Nations was borne out of collective desire of the nations around the world to
prevent war, promote world peace and stability. According to Ebegbulem (2011), the unprecedented
destruction and death caused by World War I spurred the victorious nations into formalizing a
system of collective security in the form of League of Nations. The primary motive of the League
of Nations was to prevent/deter or address any aggression by a state through collective response
from other states, thereby ensuring collective security. By ensuring collective security, the member
states aimed to discourage an aggressor nation from waging war against the victim nation through
the prospect of the aggressor having to face the collective power of the members who were
signatories to the League of Nations . The League of Nations aimed to achieve peace by linking
national and international security issues to the promotion of economic development of its member
countries (Schwabach Cockfield, n.d.). The other objectives of the ... Show more content on

Feminism in South Park
1. Introduction South Park has been around for a while now. Since it was aired for the first time on
13th August 1997, the show has constantly pushed the boundaries taking on everything, leaving out
nothing. The reception among the wider population and the media had a wide range from
shocking to excellent . One of the aspects of this success story is that, because of its provocative
tone the show has managed to stay in the limelight. Public debate was evolving around certain
episodes, bringing more and more attention to the show. As it was constantly picking up
contemporary themes, topics or events, expectations were growing and How will South Park deal

Words like bitch , whore chicks or cunt are seen as generalizing terms for women, used to
degrade their status within in the series and thereof for women in real life. This assumption
might be conceivable, as most women in the TV show are far from using comparable phrases to
describe men. There are simply less words which would have the same descriptive and
generalizing effect as the above mentioned terms used for women. However, women in South Park
are not expelled from using derogatory and vulgar language. Robin Lakoff wrote in his book
Language and WomanВґs Place that little girls should not use rough language like boys because
this would not enhance their status and prestige among men within the patriarchal system. In
fact it would expose females to ridicule and ostracising (5). Within this scope South Park makes
a feminist stand in Tom s Rhinoplasty (episode 11 of the first season). When Wendy Testaburger
is, driven by jealousy to the new class teacher Ms Ellen approaching her after class to have a

Calvin cycle The Calvin cycle is also known as the dark reactions or the light independent
reactions . In the light reactions, energy from sunlight is captured, and stored in ATP and NADPH.
These are then passed on to the Calvin cycle. Because the reactions of the Calvin cycle do not
directly require light energy, these reactions are known as the dark reactions of photosynthesis. The
primary purpose of the Calvin cycle is carbon fixation the conversion of carbon dioxide into organic
molecules such as carbohydrates (such as sugars).

Essay on Stem Cells
Abstract
1. The object of this Paper is to provide an independent assessment of the Donaldson Committee s
Recommendations in light of the most recent advances in stem cell research.
2. Stem cells should be defined by their ability to renew themselves and diversify into other cell
types.
3. There are several readily accessible sources of stem cells. Strict criteria apply to the use of these
sources in medical research.
4. Stem cells have wide potential application in medicine. quot;Adult quot; stem cells have already

However, the Donaldson Committee s Report clearly states that the ethical objections to the cloning
of human embryos for this purpose are quot;outweighed by the potential benefits quot; of using
embryonic stem cells to advance research into the treatment of degenerative diseases.
Submitted to the Department of Health as long ago as January 2000, the Report s
recommendations are based on the most up to date scientific evidence available to the Donaldson
Committee between January and December 1999, no less than nine months ago. And such is the
pace of advances in the field of stem cell research, many experts, including scientists and medical
doctors, have since challenged the basis for the Report s findings.
The object of this Briefing Paper, therefore, is to provide independent and informed analysis of the
most up to date, cutting edge stem cell research, in order to better inform those Members of the
United Kingdom Parliament who intend to vote on whether to accept the Recommendations made
by the Donaldson Committee.
Background
The Chief Medical Officer s Advisory Group defined stem cells as quot;unspecialized cells which
have not yet differentiated into any specific type of tissue. quot;3 This definition is consistent with
the one applied by the National Institutes of Health, the body appointed by President Clinton to
consider the value of research using Human Pluripotent Stem Cells (HPSCs).

What Is Exxonmobil Operates A Successful Total Quality...
To fully grasp the concept of total quality, one must first understand or define quality.
Quality in my view is meeting or exceeding customer expectation in terms of products and services
rendered.
Total quality on the other hand is an approach to doing business that attempt to maximize an
organizations competitiveness through the continual improvement of the quality of its products,
services, people, processes and environments. in this project, i will be discussing the process by
which ExxonMobil operates under to maintain a successful total quality program in all of their
products.
Over the last 125 years ExxonMobil has evolved from a regional marketer of kerosene in the U.S.
to the largest publicly traded petroleum and petrochemical enterprise in the world.
Today ExxonMobil operate in most of the world s countries and are best known by their familiar
brand names: Exxon, Esso, Standard oil and Mobil. They make the products that drive modern
transportation, power cities, lubricate industry and provide petrochemical building blocks that
lead to thousands of consumer goods. The then Standard Oil had chosen its name to signify high,
uniform quality. On November 30, 1999, Exxon and Mobil join to form Exxon Mobil
Corporation. This merger will enhance the company s ability to be an effective global competitor

In George Orwell s Essay Such, Such Were The Joys
Throughout George Orwell s essay, Such, Such were the Joys, the poor class in society is
represented as incompetent and undeserving of joy and success. Instead they earn and deserve
beatings physically and mentally. The poor class is represented this way to show how money
appears to buy success and happiness through Orwell s implying the Joys and privileges that the
eliteclass have. The essay begins discussing Orwell as a young boyarriving at a school by the name
of St. Cyprian s. Right at the beginning of this essay and Orwell s school experience, he wets the
bed making a small mistake that likely all children have made before. The headmaster doesn t just

The underlying cause of this treatment is essentially because money pays for life s comforts.
Above all the poor class shouldn t have to be beaten or looked down upon even if they don t
have the money to pay for life necessities, like an education specifically in Orwell s case. Even
though money and the lack of it were the main themes in Orwell s essay joy is something else
that is important to consider especially because that s what Orwell called this essay. Orwell
explained how everything was working against him because he had no wealth. He never
mentioned the greater joy that the elite class had and he kept it surreptitious. This is because joy
can reside among any social class. Orwell called this essay, Such, Such Were the Joy s because...
(FIX THIS!!!)
Since the beginning of time the poorer class has been represented and treated a certain way
because of the belief of the importance of money. This is due to the permanent belief that they
haven t done anything for society so society does not need to do anything for them except of
course make their life miserable. Even though Orwell represented the poor as undeserving of
anything with no abilities to accomplish anything he wrote this essay to show that with lots of hard
work it can be possible and he wanted to show the breaking of these barriers throughout his

The Context Of Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis
The Context of The Metamorphosis
Directions: Use the links you have been provided (or conduct your own search) to answer the
following questions in as much detail as possible. Be sure to find connections to what you already
know about the story.
Describe Kafka s family life, especially his relationship with his father. How might this have
impacted themes or motifs in The Metamorphosis?
Franz Kafka had become the only son in a family of three daughters. By the time he was six years
old he would lose two younger brothers, Georg and Heinrich, to death in infancy. As the eldest of
his siblings, Franz assumed a role not unlike Gregor Samsa s: taking upon himself the
responsibilities of supporting the family.
[Encyclopaedia Britannica points out Franz was closest to his younger sister, Ottla, and identified
strongly with his maternal ancestors, but was not particularly close with his mother.]
The Kafka family lived comfortably: his mother belonged to the upper German Jewish bourgeoisie
and his father, demanding and often characterized as tyrannical, was a Czech merchant among the
prestigious environment of German Prague.
These two vastly conflicting ideologies resulted in infighting between his parents (likely caused
by his father) as Franz and his siblings grew up. It is said that Hermann Kafka was domineering
and business obsessed, and that he trivialized young Franz s literary aspirations; and Julie Löwy,
while she didn t share her spouse s temperament, could neither

Selecting A Baby Formula
First time mothers worry about the best way to feed their baby. Frequently, they rely on the
advice of their friends or mother. There are those that are strong advocates for breast feeding,
while others fully support giving the new infant baby formula. Today, a lot of young moms state
that breast feeding is out of the question for them. Therefore, selecting the right baby formula boils
down to more than just a personal choice. It is important to take time to consider the baby s health
and reaction to different methods. Selecting A Baby Formula The new mother should carefully
study her baby and note their reaction to different methods. Don t rely heavily on the advice from

Feudalism And Feudal States From Europe After The Breakup...
Name: Jessica Anne Knupp

How did feudalism and feudal states come to be formed in Europe after the breakup of the
Carolingian empire?
Feudalism is the word used to describe a complex set of relationships which appeared following
the reign of Charlemagne. I came to find that basically there isn t a book to tell you exactly about
feudalism, no rule book or handbook. Because of this feudalism is sometimes difficult to describe
and just as difficult to understand, I had problems understanding the topic myself. I actually found
myself having to think harder and require more resources spending multiple hours just researching
on the matter just to understand the system as much as possible and its apparently nonexistent
rules. On top of that, also attempting to learn how feudalism first started and why of its popularity
for many years. As I continued to gather information, I noticed the difficulty of finding just how
and where feudalism made its first appearance. It was rare I would find two credible sources with
the same historical dating for feudalism.
Feudalism was the term officially used by historians to describe the type of government
institutions, as well as the general social and political relationships, that existed at that period
among warrior landholders in much of Europe, what we know today as the Middle Ages.
Feudalism, a few years later after its birth, it began defined as a contract under which military
service was given in

Offerings To An Ulcerated God Analysis
My favorite poem was Offerings to an Ulcerated God by Martin Espada. The reason for this is it
was the only poem that really made me empathize and feel emotions for the characters. It jumps
right in with a quote from the landlord s lawyer. He says Mrs. Lopez refuses to pay rent and so
she has to leave. Mrs. Lopez is the tenet and only speaks spanish, so the judge ask for an
interpreter. But, all the interpreters are working elsewhere. A volunteer interpreter stands and Mrs.
Lopez shows the interpreter pictures of her apartment/house. The conditions in this apartment
/ house are horrible. It has rats, no doorknob and the water in the toilet is frozen. Mrs. Lopez tells
the interpreter that she knows the law, will not pay because of the horrible conditions and wants to
speak. Without hearing from Mrs. Lopez, the judge states that she must pay and has 10 days to
leave. Everyone accepts this gets up to leave. The interpreter is ashamed he could not help her....

Martin Espada certainly has that gift. On Line # 3 4, the landlord says Mrs. Lopez, must pay

ring while he says it, and that just brings up an image in my mind of someone tugging on there
ring. Secondly, on line #12, it says Mrs. Lopez help up a poker hand of snapshots. This very
clearly describes exactly how she held up her photos, and also tells us she has quite a few
photos. Line # 24, Martin Espada writes, the courtroom clattered with the end of business. The
reader suddenly knows and can picture in there head exactly what happens. Finally, on line 30 31,
it says, Mrs. Lopez stood before the bench, still holding up her fan of snapshots. In my head, I just

How Children s Services Have Evolved Into Their Current Form
This essay will show how and why children s services have evolved into their current form in the
UK. It will explore children s services from the 19th to the 21st century and show how they have
changed and developed. This essay will look at the welfare state in relation to the Beveridge
report, the creation of the NHS and other children s services, political ideologies and policies and
legislation. It will conclude with modern day future challenges of children s services including
the five social evils. Children s services support and protect vulnerable children, young people,
their families and carers. (nhs.co.uk) According to Malcolm Hill (2012), if as societies are to
achieve the best for all children and particularly who are in need, it will require providing them
with the best possible services. During the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, there
was great wealth and also great poverty. Most middle class children worked in factories and
mills; factory owners employed children as they didn t complain and were also cheap to pay.
During Victorian Britain, there were no laws to protect children from work. Lord Shaftesbury
argued in parliament for laws to be changed; inspectors went into factories to find out what they
were really like, this resulted in three laws to be passed. These were 1841 Mines Act, 1847 Ten
Hour Act and 1874 Factory Act. By 1874 no child under ten would be employed in factories.

Brene Brown, a researcher in social interactions, takes an unexpected perspective in her ted talk
called The Power of Vulnerability . She starts out her speech by telling a joke and explaining her
education and experience in social work. A quote her professor put on the board led her to
research the connection among people. However, this led to many other things such as shame, fear,
and the most prominent factor, vulnerability. She realized that for connection to occur we must be
seen completely for who we are. This led to 6 years of research, including hundreds of stories and
thousands of pieces of data. Brown wrote a book about her findings but she felt that something
was still missing. It turned out the missing component was worthiness. To delve deeper into
worthiness, she did a study on people who think they are worthy and people who don t. People
who thought they were worthy had these four things in common, courage, compassion, connection,
and vulnerability. Brown realized at this point that she needed to understand vulnerability
thoroughly by facing it herself. A therapist helped brown face vulnerability head on for a year
straight, and in the end, she potentially won her life back. Brown stated ...vulnerability is the core
of shame, of fear and of worthiness, but it is also the birthplace of joy, of creativity, of belonging,
of love... After facing her fear, she knew that vulnerability was the core of not only fear, but also
happiness. Brown goes on to say that we

Constantine s Declaration Of The Edict Of Milan
Constantine s declaration of the Edict of Milan left a lasting impact on Roman society. The Edict
of Milan allowed the tolerance of all religions, which influenced laws surrounding religion. This
investigation will evaluate the following research question: To what extent did Constantine s Edict
of Milan, issued in 313 C.E., affect the spread of Christianity in Rome until its collapse? The
investigation will address if the Edict of Milan was a turning point for Christianity in Rome, and if
it had greater impact on the Eastern or Western Roman Empire. To gather knowledge on the matter,
the investigation will be relying heavily on books presenting the history of Christianity, Emperor
Constantine, and The Edict of Milan itself. By examining The Edict of Milan and the religions of
settlements surrounding the Roman Empire, this investigation will measure the impact
Constantine s Edict of Milan in Rome from 313 C.E. until its fall. The origin of my first source,
Christianity: A Global History, was a book written by David Chidester as a secondary source in
2000. There is little reveal of the author s perspective because the historic information regarding
Christianity was comprised of primarily unarguable fact. The author s purpose in writing this piece
was to provide readers with knowledge on the global foundation of Christianity. The author is also
a scholar in religious studies, and is currently a professor teaching about religion at Cape Town
University in South Africa. The

The Next Economy And America s Future Essay
The following memorandum is a direct response to Robert Reich s book Aftershock: The Next
Economy and America s Future (2013). It includes an overview of Reich s diagnosis of the
economic issues facing America, as well as relevant analysis for consideration by the President and
Congress. The following text considers a potential prescription for the issue of income equality and
a prediction regarding the potential action or inaction of the United Statesgovernment on these
issues.
1.Diagnosis
According to Robert Reich, the problems in the American economy do not stem directly from
Wall Street bonuses or failed regulation, but instead from the reneging of the promise Reich
refers to as the basic bargain (Reich, 2013). The basic bargain underlines a contract between
employers and their employees that stipulates that employees will be able to earn enough to
purchase the products their employer sells. The author cites Henry Ford as a primary example of
how the unstated contract brings about prosperity. In 1914, Ford announced that he would pay his
workers three times the typical factory salary at the time. The result was that the people who built
his Model T automobiles were able to purchase them themselves, and only two years later, Ford s
profits doubled (Reich, 2013).
Reich believes that the failure of this contract has resulted in a lack of collective buying power
available to the middle class, and is characterized by a failure to create higher standards of living,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Discharge Of A Contract
TASK 2 2.1 Introduction The main objective of entering into a contract is generally to see it
through to completion. In a simplified example, in the case of a construction contract between an
employer and a contractor, the employer gets his project constructed and the contractor gets his
payment. However, not every contract will achieve its goal. It is not uncommon for a contractual
relationship to terminate in the course of its performance, without achieving its objective. In this
task, we had a scenario which our training appraisal is due shortly. Furthermore, our supervisor had
told us the he will be testing our knowledge on the discharge of contract. He explained that the
contract can be discharged in several... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If both parties have continuing obligations then generally the consideration will be simply each of
them giving up their rights under the contract. The only time consideration becomes an issue is
where one party has fully performed their part of the contract when the other has not. The non
performing party must then provide consideration to make the agreement binding. Also if the
agreement is made by deed there is no requirement to provide consideration. There is in effect a
contract to end a contract. According to Section 64 of the Contract Act 1950 (Act 136), which
states that, Every promise may dispense with or without remit, wholly or in part, the performance
of the promise made to him, or may extend the time for such performance, or may accept instead
of it any satisfaction which he thinks fit . As an illustration of the situation, B promises to paint a
picture for C. But then, C forbids B to do so afterwards. Thus B is no longer bound to perform the
promise. As it is the agreement of the parties which binds them, so by their further agreement or
consnt the contract may be terminated. The rule of law in this regard is as follows, Eodem modo
quo quid constituitur, eodem modo destruitur which means things may be destroyed in the same
manner in which it is constituted. Types of discharge by agreement: 1.Novation 2.Rescission
3.Alteration 4.

The Effects Of Religiosity And Culture On Adolescent Std...
Abstract According to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, 65 percent of teens
have had sex by the time they were seniors in high school . Under aged sex is a prevalent activity
in today s society; henceforth, starting this act from a younger age results in an increase in sexual
partners over one s lifespan, which, because of the nature of the activity, gives a greater risk of
sexually transmitted diseases. As a result, it is important to understand: adolescent STD rates, the
factors that may contribute to them and the possible preventable variables that could aid in
alleviating the rate of sexually transmitted diseases transmitted amongst adolescents. To further
understand the effects of religiosity and culture, this review of literature will discover the negative
and positive correlations, and the associations certain variables obtained to influence the
adolescent STD rates. The possible major factors that contribute to high adolescent STD rates are:
adolescent relationships, sexual violence, lack of sexual knowledge, and lack of parental guidance.
However, religiosity and culture plays both a positive and a negative preventive strategy in slowing
down adolescent STD rates. To further reduce rates of adolescent sexually transmitted diseases,
more research is needed to measure the effectiveness of the different types of religions and cultures.

Rape and Intimate Partner Abuse In The Lesbian Community...
In every 45 seconds, someone is sexually violated in the United States. Out of every 6 women, one
has experienced an attempted rape or complete rape. Lesbians and bisexual women remain at
increased risk of sexual victimization compared to heterosexual women. In order for a woman to
determine the direction of her life, she must first determine her sexuality. Sexuality is a deep,
integral part of any human s life. This should not be a subject of coercion or debate. The society
must recognize that a woman has the right to freely pre determine her sexuality without oppression
and discrimination (Burn, 2004). Traditionally, women throughout history and culture have

Women neither become lesbians due to shortage of men nor because they were abused by men.
Lesbians, just like women in heterosexual relationships are subjected to physical, sexual and verbal
abuse by their partners. Abusive dominating partner may subject the partner to emotional, physical
and psychological abuse. The notion that a woman does not possess the strength or aggressiveness
possessed by men is wrong and misplaced. Cases of lesbians being abused by their partners have
been reported in the United States and other parts of the world including South Africa. Studies on
domestic violence have been carried out for decades. In recent years, scholars have been paying
attention to domestic violence in the context of non heterosexual relationships. They have called
for intensive research of lesbian intimate partner violence (IPV) and into the experience of lesbian
survivors (Walters, 2011). There is a myth regarding lesbian utopia. The myth originated from the
idea that societies in which friendships and relationships are void of men are protected from the
natural control and power men possess over women in the patriarchal society. This utopian myth
has the perception that since lesbian relationships are composed of two women, then a kind of
default egalitarianism is naturally created. Such a myth encourages the delusion that lesbian
communities are more enlightened than

future generations to hear, learn, and study them. One interesting topic in history is Reconstruction.
To further understand Reconstruction, one needs to know what happened during this period, how
it came to exist and the impact it had on African Americans. The Reconstruction era was a period
of time that lasted for fourteen years. Reconstruction began in 1863, just after America had finish
fighting the Civil War. The Civil War settled the constitutional crisis that were provoked by the
secessions of the Confederacy as well as giving freedom to millions of slaves, more than four
million to be exact, upsetting many white southerners. This freedom was obtain by the 13th
Amendment which abolished slavery. In other words ended slavery. This impacted many African
Americans mainly for the reason being that most had no idea on how to make a living on their
own. At the time President Lincoln and Congress helped African Americans by providing them
with food, clothing and leasing them land so they can have somewhere to make a living. In
addition, Lincoln had more plans for Reconstruction. One of his plan consisted on bringing the
seceded states back into the Union. However, before his plans were tested Lincoln was assassinated
while attending a theater. Continuing with what Lincoln had left as

Advantages And Limitations Of Genetic Algorithm
1.Introduction
The most popular technique in evolutionary computation research has been the genetic algorithm.
In the traditional genetic algorithm, the representation used is a fixed length bit string. Each
position in the string is assumed to represent a particular feature of an individual, and the value
stored in that position represents how that feature is expressed in the solution. Usually, the string is
evaluated as a collection of structural features of a solution that have little or no interactions . The
analogy may be drawn directly to genes in biological organisms. Each gene represents an entity that
is structurally independent of other genes. The main reproduction operator used is bit string
crossover, in which two strings are used as parents and new individuals are formed by swapping a

Emile Durkheim And Karl Marx
Emile Durkheim and Karl Marx are considered the founding fathers of sociology. Both men had
an influence on the development of sociology. Marx and Durkheim differed in their idea of what
alienation consisted of. For Marx, the issue was class conflict. While, for Durkheim, it was a
disordered society trying to adapt. Although they both had different concepts of alienation, both
men believed that alienation lead to a man s disconnectedness with society and their natural state of
mind. Durkheim and Marx also had contrasting views of the role of religion and education. Karl
Marxwas not a religious type of person, he believed it served as sanctuary. However, Durkheim
believed religion serves for society no matter how it is practiced. As for... Show more content on

Durkheim s views on alienation differ from Marx s beliefs. Durkheim focused on the idea of
social solidarity and anomie. He believed that class division was acceptable because it formed
interdependence. Durkheim saw it as normlessness and/or anomie. Anomie essentially means
little moral guidance to individuals which may lead to the breakdown of social bonds between
individuals and society. When a person feels anomic, there is a feeling of purposelessness in life
leading to the reason he wrote his book Suicide. Durkheim viewed anomic people as an
individual s lifestyle becoming too unstable leading to a breakdown. This is what occurred over
different society. Durkheim argued that suicide can be caused by social factors, not just
individual psychological ones. Durkheim felt that the system would eventually take care of itself
and eventually adapt to a suitable form. In Durkheim s eyes, religion gave meaning and purpose
to life as well as reinforcing social unity and stability. Religion gave people a similar set of
beliefs, which is a meaningful agent of socialization by bringing people together physically and
emotionally. Thus, religion demonstrates moral behavior to people, helping them learn to be good
members of society. His views of religion centered on making people willing to put the concerns of
others ahead of themselves. As for education, Durkheim believed

Discourse of Sex and the Creation of Docile Bodies Essay
Discourse of Sex and the Creation of Docile Bodies Subjection is a process that operates in society,
and according to sociologist Michel Foucault, can be applied to a multiplicity of discourses.
Foucault explains that the beginning of the nineteenth century marked the age of sexual repression
and censorship, which became a time of subjection through exerting disciplinary control over a
docile population. In his The Introduction to the History of Sexuality, Foucault explains how the
scientification of sex came about. Specifically, it was an attempt to obtain a uniform truth about
sex. However, there is no truth to it, but rather it is merely a vehicle for social control. Foucault
distinguishes the discourses of sexuality from the science of... Show more content on

Thus, the so called true discourses concerning sex were based on collective and accepted societal
thoughts, how people operated in the world, and what was said to be true. Yet, the views on
homosexuality, whether or not they were necessarily or fundamentally true, were merely
considered true discourse at the time. Therefore, true discourse at any given time equates to power
because when something is said to be true, people tend to act as a collective group as if it is true.
Foucault s theory holds similarities to the Thomas theorem, which claims if men define situations
as real, they are real in their consequences (Thomas 1928:571). For example, when we believe that
students from low income families achieve less academically than those from high income families,
the school might devise and implement programs to assist low income students in order to remedy
the problem. Further, cigarettes provide another example of the changes in true discourse because
in the past smoking was considered the height of sophistication and cosmopolitanism, but now the
discourse on smoking has become highly negative from both a health and social perspective. In this
way, what is considered true discourse can dramatically change over time, resulting in fundamental
changes in society.

Woolfolk amp; Markets (2007) discuss the use of certain cultural tools playing an important role
in cognitive development; these tools can be anything from the Internet to language or numbers.
Ann displays techniques through collaborative group work that run true to these theories. Piaget
also suggested an individual would not come to organise his/her operations in a coherent whole
if they did not engage in thought exchanges and cooperation with others (Piaget, 1947, p. 174).
Ann is breaking students up into different groups to perform different activities; this is portrayed
through one group collecting rainfall data and another group taking notes on the impact the rain

The zone of proximal development refers to a conceivable range of learning evolution in regards to

According to Resnick (2016), there are recommendations of care that are supported by the National
Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). However, these guidelines are not enough. As
a result, it becomes imperative to understand how to recognize delirium and develop a culture of
care that consistently implements processes that prevent its occurrence. While the awareness and
understanding of its impact can influence its recognition, a broader system wide approach needs to
become integrated into the daily practice of geriatric patients to sustain consistent outcomes and
improvements in care. The treatment options should be prefaced with knowledge sharing and
education surrounding the topic of delirium with the care team. Education will need to include
assessment, prevention, and management (Trogrlic et al., 2015, p. 15). Assessment components
will need to include an evidence based tool that is appropriate for the population and applies to
patients with and without cognitive impairments (Voyer et al., 2015). Preventive processes need to
be taught, understood, and operationalized. This would include identification of reversible causes
and risk factors, optimization of medications and elimination of inappropriate medications,
integration of family, and team collaboration (Resnick, 2016). Management options will need to

As poststructuralism would have it, human consciousness is constructed discursively. Our
subjectivity is constructed by the shifting discourses of power which endlessly speak through us,
situating us here and there in particular positions and relations. In these terms we are not the
authors of ourselves. We do not construct our identities, we have it written for us; the subject
cannot be sovereign over the construction of selfhood. Instead the subject is decentered, in that its
consciousness is always being constructed from positions outside of itself. It follows then that the
individual is not a transparent representation of the self but an effect of discourse. Spivak argues
that surprisingly for these figures, when Foucault and Deleuze talks about oppressed groups such
as the working classes they fall back into precisely these uncritical notions of sovereign subjects
by restoring to them a fully centred consciousness. In addition they also assume that the writing of
intellectuals such as themselves can serve as a transparent medium through which the voices of
the oppressed can be represented. The intellectual is cast as a reliable mediator for the voices of
the oppressed, a mothpiece through which the oppressed can clearly speak. Spivak articulates her
reasons for her worries in the first part of the essay, applying MICHEL FOUCAULT s
understanding of epistemic violence to the remotely orchestrated, far flung, and heterogeneous

To Lacan, there is always a sense of menace about the gaze of the intruder, although one has to
wonder, what is the source of this menace? Kripps (2010) pinpoints that the feeling of menace as
the acknowledgement of power distribution within the social sphere. I would go further than this,
I would call it guilt. Through recognizing their potential to be objectified, both Sartre and Lacan
felt guilt about acknowledging their ability to objectify anything within their respective fields of
vision. This is what Bryson (1988) refers to as the Politics of Vision , which he describes as the
ways in which power uses the social construct of vision .
Bryson also offers within his essay an alternative theory to that of Sartre and Lacan. This
perspective comes from Keiji Nishitani (cited in Bryson, 1988), whose book Religion and
Nothingness is largely based on the criticism of Sartre s ideas of subject as central to the field of
vision, and the perceived threat from the intruder. Nishitani argues for radical impermanence; that
the object is what it is only in relation to other objects and that the perceived qualities of the object

talked. Ling (2002) states, King had a remarkable ability to get people who would otherwise be
constantly feuding to work together . The key to a successful leader is bringing people together.
King was able to bring people together and work together for an achievable goal. He could quiet
crowds and calm them down to be more peaceful. He spoke on nonviolence as the better
resolution. According to Ling (2002), For King, leadership meant standing up for what he
believed in and being a drum major for justice . A leader is also one who can relate to people.
King was able to relate to the people who spoke to therefore African Americans were more likely
to listen and follow what King had to say. King was a leader because he challenged the status quo.
He had the courage to stand up for what he believed, the rights of all people to fair and equal
treatment.
Compare leadership styles Perhaps King s leadership style is a bit ambitious for one to achieve.
The next comparable person who ranks with King would be Barack Obama.

Great Fire Of London Research Paper
The Great Fire of London
The Great Fire of London was an enormous fire that burned down almost all of London. It started
on September 2, 1666, as a small fire erupted on Pudding Lane the city of London would not know
the suffering they were about to endure (Jokinen 1). One of many buildings the fire burnt down
was the world renowned Globe Theatre. The Great Fire of London affected many people, property,
and famous architecture that would pave the way for a new ruler of England.
The Great Fire of London began on the night of September 2, 1666, as a small fire on Pudding
Lane, in the bakeshop of Thomas Farynor, baker to the queen (Jokinen 1). A monument now stands
in place of where the famous bakery was (Eyewitness 1). The city thought the bakery was the
most up to date thing at the time, so no one ever perceived it catching aflame as a possibility. At
one o clock in the morning, a servant woke to find the bakery aflame, and the baker and his
family escaped, but a fear struck maid perished in the blaze (Jokinen 1). The baker escaped
unharmed but, did not tell any of the bystanders about the timely growing fire. This would just be
the beginning of a colossal fire that would test the city of London.

The fire was put out on Pie Corner where also a monument stands in honor of the fire that burned
down London (Eyewitness 2). The fact that the fire burned down a bakery to begin and end with
is ironic in part to the fire could have started anywhere. The city of London would be in what is
called today as a rebuilding era, because eighty percent of the infrastructure in the city burned
down (National 2). The fire would was not well documented due to everything that was written
about the fire was burnt in the fire. The Great Fire of London may have not been well recorded,
but only the victims would know the real effects of the

Old Yeller
Abstract
When people think of the book or the movie, Old Yeller, it is often thought of as a story about
the bond between a boy and his dog, a common theme in many TV shows and books. However,
Old Yeller, as it turns out, proves to be much more than that; it is a true coming of age story. At
14 years old, Travis Coates lives with his mother and little brother, Arliss, in the hill country of
Texas during the 1860s when his father must leave home to work on a cattle drive. He leaves
Travis to act a man s part and take care of the family in his absence. While working in a cornfield
one day, Travis come across Old Yellerand tries to drive him away, but his younger brother, Arliss
likes Old Yeller and Mama thinks he would be good for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Afterall, he had just lost his dog, Bell, to a rattlesnake bite, and the attachment to both Bell and
his father cannot be replaced so soon. With his father gone away for several months and Bell
dead at the fangs of a rattlesnake, Travis has some major adjustments to make in terms of his
internal model of self. He needs to take on the rolf of a man. He has many conflicting roles to
deal with disciplinarian to his younger brother, Arliss, only to get scolded by his mother for
doing so which leaves him feeling there is no winning because of the conflict caused by
assuming so many roles boy, playmate, man, and protector. These conflicts frustrate Travis who
thought it was not fair and thinks to himself, how could I be the man of the family if nobody
paid any attention to what I thought or said...I sulked and felt sorry for myself all the
time...[and] the more I thought of it the angrier I at got at that big yeller dog. (Gibson 1956).
Travis feels offended, too, that Lisbeth turns out to be a big help. She helps by getting the water
and gathering the corn, and has a good time laughing with Mama and Arliss. It hurts Travis pride
to see him so easily replaced by a girl. He consoles himself by remembering that he can hunt, mark
hogs and swing an axe, and she cannot (studymode 2014).
John Bowlby, a reknowned psychiatrist, whose specialty wrote scholarly articles on attachment, is

Competition Is Bad Essay
Losers are always in the wrong ,it is a Chinese traditional saying. In a society where the places

We can improve ourselves and we can learn and study from the competition .To prove this, in
China, it is very popular even normal now to have a teacher who come to student s house to teach
extra contents with paying a lot of money.Their parents wish they can learn faster than what they
learn at school. Furthermore, during the vacations, students study abroad to learn English for a
month instead of playing video games at home. If they have this experience such as summer school
in American university, it is one of the greatest bonus point to apply a university in western
countries. What is more,we have one national examination to decide which college that you can
enroll. The circumstances are full of competitiveness in China now because China has salient
characteristic of a large population base. Obviously, only the highest 15% can go to the good
quality colleges. Students try to learn as much as they can, to win the competition to obtain good

Comparison of Hofffman’s work, The Sandman, and
Mosse’s,...
Hofffman s work, The Sandman, and Mosse s, From Romanticism to the Volk, share cohesive
concepts, each examine the dramatic cultural shift toward promoting nationalist thought in the
minds of the German people. Through the rootlessness of his characters, the cognitive disparity
between Nathanael and Klara, and the structure of The Sandman, Hoffman aptly uses the folktale
genre to effectively reveal his disdain for the tenets of enlightenment as they challenged the new
Volk ideology of Germany. Mosse s scholarly analysis critically examined this same shift and
sought to clarify how the groundwork laid for the return to Germanic roots, exemplified in the Volk
neo romantic movement, came as a direct reaction to the industrial revolution. In The Sandman, we
are introduced to the character Coppelius, who quickly becomes the root of all evil in the
protagonist, Nathanael s life (pun intended). From the Volk perspective, it becomes apparent that
Coppelius malevolent traits are due to his lack of allegiance to Germanic cultural identity.
Nathanael suspects that Coppelius is not a true German , which was problematic in the German
Volk conceptualization of an idyllic state (47). Mosse explained: need to block quote The term
rooted was frequently invoked by Volkish thinkers as it supported their primary self definition.
Rootedness conveyed the sense of man s inseparable connection with the landscape through to the
soul, which embodied the life spirit and the cosmos. It

Nutrition and Health Diagnostics (Diagnostics) is a food safety business unit within the DuPont company that focuses on food based pathogen detection systems. The business currently sells a system that uses specific in house consumables to large food processing plants that can accurately detect the presence of pathogens that are harmful for human consumption. This testing is required by the United States government and most countries around the world. The system uses a polymerase chain reaction (pCR) method that can detect the presence of bacteria in an industry leading four hours. The accuracy and speed of this system allows major food processing plants to be very efficient in their packaging and distributing of foods. • 3. Active Denial System Paper Active Denial System The Active Denial System (ADS) is an electromagnetic, directed energy, non lethal weapon designed by the US military and built by Raytheon (Cumming, 2010). The ADS works by producing 95GHz electromagnetic radiation that is focused in a beam at a target (Wikipedia, 2014). These 3.2mm electromagnetic waves work on the same principal as a microwave oven. The waves excite water and fat molecules instantly heating them through dielectric heating (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to the extremely high frequency of these waves, the energy from them is absorbed in within the first 0.4mm of skin, meaning they do not affect vital organs, blood vessels or nerve endings (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to these attributes, and the results of numerous studies, in which the worst injury inflicted by the ADS were pea sized blisters, with a 1 in 1000 chance of this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This becomes a major problem when there is a large amount of water in the environment. In a situation with low humidity, the ADS has an effective operating range in excess of 500m (Danyalov, 2014). The ADS though is adversely affected by weather conditions, such as fog, rain, snow, sleet, and dust storms. The rain, fog, snow and sleet all reduce the range and effectiveness of the beam by absorbing the radiation it produces. The dust storm reduces the range of the ADS, not by absorbing the radiation, but by deflecting and dispersing it. Both of these situations mean that the full power of the ray is no longer reaching its intended target, which may moderate the ADS s sensation to warm and comfortable (Cumming, 2010). Along with aspects of the environment blocking the device, it can be countered by very reflective material such as aluminium foil (Cumming, 2010). Along with aluminium foil, a defence of sprinklers that produce a fine mist, similar to fire defence systems found on rural homes, could be used to counter the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Wrongful Conviction Of Juan Rivera Written Assignment: The Wrongful Conviction of Juan Rivera Aric Hermelin March 31st, 2015 LSO102BA Kimberly Costello Part I On November 19th, 1993 Juan Rivera was convicted for the August 17th, 1992 rape and murder of then eleven year old Holly Staker, who at the time was babysitting her two siblings (University of Michigan Law School). His wrongful conviction was the result of failures by not only the public, but also law enforcement personnel and the criminal justice system, as we will further examine. According to the University of Michigan s Law School, Juan Rivera s initial arrest came on October 26th after Lake County Police received a tip from an informant. Rivera was then questioned for four days and at the end of the fourth day Rivera falsely confessed to Staker s rape and murder (University of Michigan Law School). Following his confession, the two interrogators went on to type a confession for Rivera to sign. After obtaining Rivera s signature, however, the prosecutor found the narrative to be incohesive, and asked the interrogators to correct it and to obtain Rivera s signature on the second written confession. Rivera s signature was later obtained on October 30th (University of Michigan Law School). Of course, it is tough to comprehend why a reasonable and innocent individual such as Mr. Rivera would confess to a crime he did not commit (Gould). Upon further review, however, there were notable flaws as to how this case was treated. To ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I can no longer recognize faces or landscapes without glasses (everything just turns into a big blobby mess), but once I put on my glasses, I can see all of the beautiful wonders of the world, of life, of nature. I can see that I m getting really deep and philosophical, and so I can back away with a fact. The human body is bioluminescent, which means that, like a firefly, you are a shining beacon of light! Sadly, that light is far too weak to be visible and it disperses. • 8. What Are The Objectives Of The League Of Nations Introduction The League of Nations was borne out of collective desire of the nations around the world to prevent war, promote world peace and stability. According to Ebegbulem (2011), the unprecedented destruction and death caused by World War I spurred the victorious nations into formalizing a system of collective security in the form of League of Nations. The primary motive of the League of Nations was to prevent/deter or address any aggression by a state through collective response from other states, thereby ensuring collective security. By ensuring collective security, the member states aimed to discourage an aggressor nation from waging war against the victim nation through the prospect of the aggressor having to face the collective power of the members who were signatories to the League of Nations . The League of Nations aimed to achieve peace by linking national and international security issues to the promotion of economic development of its member countries (Schwabach Cockfield, n.d.). Since it was aired for the first time on 13th August 1997, the show has constantly pushed the boundaries taking on everything, leaving out nothing. The reception among the wider population and the media had a wide range from shocking to excellent . One of the aspects of this success story is that, because of its provocative tone the show has managed to stay in the limelight. Public debate was evolving around certain episodes, bringing more and more attention to the show. Words like bitch , whore chicks or cunt are seen as generalizing terms for women, used to degrade their status within in the series and thereof for women in real life. This assumption might be conceivable, as most women in the TV show are far from using comparable phrases to describe men. There are simply less words which would have the same descriptive and generalizing effect as the above mentioned terms used for women. However, women in South Park are not expelled from using derogatory and vulgar language. Robin Lakoff wrote in his book Language and WomanВґs Place that little girls should not use rough language like boys because this would not enhance their status and prestige among men within the patriarchal system. In fact it would expose females to ridicule and ostracising (5). Within this scope South Park makes a feminist stand in Tom s Rhinoplasty (episode 11 of the first season). The Context Of Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis The Context of The Metamorphosis Directions: Use the links you have been provided (or conduct your own search) to answer the following questions in as much detail as possible. Be sure to find connections to what you already know about the story. Describe Kafka s family life, especially his relationship with his father. How might this have impacted themes or motifs in The Metamorphosis? Franz Kafka had become the only son in a family of three daughters. By the time he was six years old he would lose two younger brothers, Georg and Heinrich, to death in infancy. As the eldest of his siblings, Franz assumed a role not unlike Gregor Samsa s: taking upon himself the responsibilities of supporting the family. [Encyclopaedia Britannica points out Franz was closest to his younger sister, Ottla, and identified strongly with his maternal ancestors, but was not particularly close with his mother.] The Kafka family lived comfortably: his mother belonged to the upper German Jewish bourgeoisie and his father, demanding and often characterized as tyrannical, was a Czech merchant among the prestigious environment of German Prague. These two vastly conflicting ideologies resulted in infighting between his parents (likely caused by his father) as Franz and his siblings grew up. It is said that Hermann Kafka was domineering and business obsessed, and that he trivialized young Franz s literary aspirations; and Julie LГ¶wy, while she didn t share her spouse s temperament, could neither ... Feudalism is the word used to describe a complex set of relationships which appeared following the reign of Charlemagne. I came to find that basically there isn t a book to tell you exactly about feudalism, no rule book or handbook. Because of this feudalism is sometimes difficult to describe and just as difficult to understand, I had problems understanding the topic myself. Feudalism was the term officially used by historians to describe the type of government institutions, as well as the general social and political relationships, that existed at that period among warrior landholders in much of Europe, what we know today as the Middle Ages. • 23. Analysis Of Brene Brown The Power Of Vulnerability Brene Brown, a researcher in social interactions, takes an unexpected perspective in her ted talk called The Power of Vulnerability . She starts out her speech by telling a joke and explaining her education and experience in social work. A quote her professor put on the board led her to research the connection among people. However, this led to many other things such as shame, fear, and the most prominent factor, vulnerability. She realized that for connection to occur we must be seen completely for who we are. This led to 6 years of research, including hundreds of stories and thousands of pieces of data. Brown wrote a book about her findings but she felt that something was still missing. It turned out the missing component was worthiness. To delve deeper into worthiness, she did a study on people who think they are worthy and people who don t. People who thought they were worthy had these four things in common, courage, compassion, connection, and vulnerability. Brown realized at this point that she needed to understand vulnerability thoroughly by facing it herself. A therapist helped brown face vulnerability head on for a year straight, and in the end, she potentially won her life back. Brown stated ...vulnerability is the core of shame, of fear and of worthiness, but it is also the birthplace of joy, of creativity, of belonging, of love... It includes an overview of Reich s diagnosis of the economic issues facing America, as well as relevant analysis for consideration by the President and Congress. The following text considers a potential prescription for the issue of income equality and a prediction regarding the potential action or inaction of the United Statesgovernment on these issues. 1.Diagnosis According to Robert Reich, the problems in the American economy do not stem directly from Wall Street bonuses or failed regulation, but instead from the reneging of the promise Reich refers to as the basic bargain (Reich, 2013). The basic bargain underlines a contract between employers and their employees that stipulates that employees will be able to earn enough to purchase the products their employer sells. The author cites Henry Ford as a primary example of how the unstated contract brings about prosperity. In 1914, Ford announced that he would pay his workers three times the typical factory salary at the time. The result was that the people who built his Model T automobiles were able to purchase them themselves, and only two years later, Ford s profits doubled (Reich, 2013). There is in effect a contract to end a contract. Abstract According to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, 65 percent of teens have had sex by the time they were seniors in high school . Under aged sex is a prevalent activity in today s society; henceforth, starting this act from a younger age results in an increase in sexual partners over one s lifespan, which, because of the nature of the activity, gives a greater risk of sexually transmitted diseases. As a result, it is important to understand: adolescent STD rates, the factors that may contribute to them and the possible preventable variables that could aid in alleviating the rate of sexually transmitted diseases transmitted amongst adolescents. To further understand the effects of religiosity and culture, this review of literature will discover the negative and positive correlations, and the associations certain variables obtained to influence the adolescent STD rates. The possible major factors that contribute to high adolescent STD rates are: adolescent relationships, sexual violence, lack of sexual knowledge, and lack of parental guidance. However, religiosity and culture plays both a positive and a negative preventive strategy in slowing down adolescent STD rates. To further reduce rates of adolescent sexually transmitted diseases, more research is needed to measure the effectiveness of the different types of religions and cultures. One interesting topic in history is Reconstruction. To further understand Reconstruction, one needs to know what happened during this period, how it came to exist and the impact it had on African Americans. The Reconstruction era was a period of time that lasted for fourteen years. Reconstruction began in 1863, just after America had finish fighting the Civil War. The Civil War settled the constitutional crisis that were provoked by the secessions of the Confederacy as well as giving freedom to millions of slaves, more than four million to be exact, upsetting many white southerners. This freedom was obtain by the 13th Amendment which abolished slavery. In other words ended slavery. This impacted many African Americans mainly for the reason being that most had no idea on how to make a living on their own. Olivia is an outgoing, entertaining, and funny person. I couldn t ask for a better person to go with. We had been planning this trip for months and we both took off work so we could celebrate her upcoming 16th Birthday. As soon as I woke up I quickly took a brisk, cold, shower and got ready for the big day we had both been waiting for all summer. I put on my vibrant red Red Wings shirt, which was her favorite, grabbed the tickets, and went to go pick her up. My Dad is a big reason in how we got to go, because he agreed to drive us down there. The wait surprisingly went by fairly quickly because we were able to keep ourselves entertained by playing games and cracking jokes. Finally the 2 hour wait was over, our feet were throbbing and we were anxious to experience the new amazing ride. We got buckled up and the ride blasted off. In the traditional genetic algorithm, the representation used is a fixed length bit string. Each position in the string is assumed to represent a particular feature of an individual, and the value stored in that position represents how that feature is expressed in the solution. Usually, the string is evaluated as a collection of structural features of a solution that have little or no interactions . The analogy may be drawn directly to genes in biological organisms. Each gene represents an entity that is structurally independent of other genes. The main reproduction operator used is bit string crossover, in which two strings are used as parents and new individuals are formed by swapping a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marx and Durkheim differed in their idea of what alienation consisted of. For Marx, the issue was class conflict. While, for Durkheim, it was a disordered society trying to adapt. Although they both had different concepts of alienation, both men believed that alienation lead to a man s disconnectedness with society and their natural state of mind. Durkheim focused on the idea of social solidarity and anomie. He believed that class division was acceptable because it formed interdependence. Durkheim saw it as normlessness and/or anomie. Anomie essentially means little moral guidance to individuals which may lead to the breakdown of social bonds between individuals and society. When a person feels anomic, there is a feeling of purposelessness in life leading to the reason he wrote his book Suicide. Durkheim viewed anomic people as an individual s lifestyle becoming too unstable leading to a breakdown. This is what occurred over different society. Durkheim argued that suicide can be caused by social factors, not just individual psychological ones. Durkheim felt that the system would eventually take care of itself and eventually adapt to a suitable form. In Durkheim s eyes, religion gave meaning and purpose to life as well as reinforcing social unity and stability. Religion gave people a similar set of beliefs, which is a meaningful agent of socialization by bringing people together physically and emotionally. Thus, religion demonstrates moral behavior to people, helping them learn to be good members of society. His views of religion centered on making people willing to put the concerns of others ahead of themselves. As for education, Durkheim believed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Discourse of Sex and the Creation of Docile Bodies Essay Discourse of Sex and the Creation of Docile Bodies Subjection is a process that operates in society, and according to sociologist Michel Foucault, can be applied to a multiplicity of discourses. Foucault explains that the beginning of the nineteenth century marked the age of sexual repression and censorship, which became a time of subjection through exerting disciplinary control over a docile population. In his The Introduction to the History of Sexuality, Foucault explains how the scientification of sex came about. Specifically, it was an attempt to obtain a uniform truth about sex. However, there is no truth to it, but rather it is merely a vehicle for social control. Foucault distinguishes the discourses of sexuality from the science of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the so called true discourses concerning sex were based on collective and accepted societal thoughts, how people operated in the world, and what was said to be true. Yet, the views on homosexuality, whether or not they were necessarily or fundamentally true, were merely considered true discourse at the time. Therefore, true discourse at any given time equates to power because when something is said to be true, people tend to act as a collective group as if it is true. Foucault s theory holds similarities to the Thomas theorem, which claims if men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences (Thomas 1928:571). For example, when we believe that students from low income families achieve less academically than those from high income families, the school might devise and implement programs to assist low income students in order to remedy the problem. Further, cigarettes provide another example of the changes in true discourse because in the past smoking was considered the height of sophistication and cosmopolitanism, but now the discourse on smoking has become highly negative from both a health and social perspective. In this way, what is considered true discourse can dramatically change over time, resulting in fundamental changes in society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ann is breaking students up into different groups to perform different activities; this is portrayed through one group collecting rainfall data and another group taking notes on the impact the rain has on ants living in the area. While the awareness and understanding of its impact can influence its recognition, a broader system wide approach needs to become integrated into the daily practice of geriatric patients to sustain consistent outcomes and improvements in care. The treatment options should be prefaced with knowledge sharing and education surrounding the topic of delirium with the care team. She has describes herself as a practical deconstructionist feminist Marxist and as a gadfly . She uses deconstruction to examine how truth is constructed and to deploy the assertions of one intellectual and political position (such as Marxism) to interrupt or bring into crisis another (feminism, for example). Our subjectivity is constructed by the shifting discourses of power which endlessly speak through us, situating us here and there in particular positions and relations. In these terms we are not the authors of ourselves. We do not construct our identities, we have it written for us; the subject cannot be sovereign over the construction of selfhood. Instead the subject is decentered, in that its consciousness is always being constructed from positions outside of itself. It follows then that the individual is not a transparent representation of the self but an effect of discourse. Spivak argues that surprisingly for these figures, when Foucault and Deleuze talks about oppressed groups such as the working classes they fall back into precisely these uncritical notions of sovereign subjects by restoring to them a fully centred consciousness. In addition they also assume that the writing of intellectuals such as themselves can serve as a transparent medium through which the voices of the oppressed can be represented. The intellectual is cast as a reliable mediator for the voices of the oppressed, a mothpiece through which the oppressed can clearly speak. Spivak articulates her reasons for her worries in the first part of the essay, applying MICHEL FOUCAULT s understanding of epistemic violence to the remotely orchestrated, far flung, and heterogeneous project to ... Through recognizing their potential to be objectified, both Sartre and Lacan felt guilt about acknowledging their ability to objectify anything within their respective fields of vision. This is what Bryson (1988) refers to as the Politics of Vision , which he describes as the ways in which power uses the social construct of vision . Bryson also offers within his essay an alternative theory to that of Sartre and Lacan. This perspective comes from Keiji Nishitani (cited in Bryson, 1988), whose book Religion and Nothingness is largely based on the criticism of Sartre s ideas of subject as central to the field of vision, and the perceived threat from the intruder. Nishitani argues for radical impermanence; that the object is what it is only in relation to other objects and that the perceived qualities of the object are impermanent. Hofffman s work, The Sandman, and Mosse s, From Romanticism to the Volk, share cohesive concepts, each examine the dramatic cultural shift toward promoting nationalist thought in the minds of the German people. Through the rootlessness of his characters, the cognitive disparity between Nathanael and Klara, and the structure of The Sandman, Hoffman aptly uses the folktale genre to effectively reveal his disdain for the tenets of enlightenment as they challenged the new Volk ideology of Germany. Mosse s scholarly analysis critically examined this same shift and sought to clarify how the groundwork laid for the return to Germanic roots, exemplified in the Volk neo romantic movement, came as a direct reaction to the industrial revolution. In The Sandman, we are introduced to the character Coppelius, who quickly becomes the root of all evil in the protagonist, Nathanael s life (pun intended). From the Volk perspective, it becomes apparent that Coppelius malevolent traits are due to his lack of allegiance to Germanic cultural identity. Nathanael suspects that Coppelius is not a true German , which was problematic in the German Volk conceptualization of an idyllic state (47).
