Personal Narrative-Anastazie And The Clove Girl
Anastazie s cherry red lipstick smelled of clove cigarettes and cheap cologne. Her
lips tasted spicy as I pressed mine into her s. I missed that spicy taste, the taste of
Libena; her deep blue shirtwaist dress painted with a surge of electric crimson.
Back when she was alive, a long clove cigarette always hung between her slightly
gapped teeth as she spoke, then she would effortlessly pull back to produce a thick
puff of smoke. She was from a small town slightly east of Potsdam; orphaned after
her parents were heard for war crimes. They held American ideals, ones of
libertarianism, and that was not acceptable in the east. She couldn t stay Potsdam due
to the memories of her family, and her family s store was quickly bankrupt thanks to
the rations.
We first met at the grandiose train station in southern Prague. Her deep crimson
lips were twisted around a clove cigarette and her shoulders trembling under a
ratted light blue shaw. Her beauty made me need to speak to her, and she told me
she had no place to stay in the city. After some convincing on my part, I took her
with me to my small apartment. She was a great conversationalist and had the
ability to entertain me for hours upon hours. I fell deeply in love with her, then
when I confessed this she said she felt the same. I married her and had a child. ...

Then, her heart rate sped up and her chart went high. She convulsed, screamed, and
begged for help. I yelled for the doctors, but they never came to help. I grabbed the
defibrillator off the wall, and for a second her pink lips opened into a scream. I
smiled, thinking she would be okay. Then, she collapsed back onto the bed and
never got up. When I see the demon child I have mixed feelings. Her hair frames her
face like Libena, she smokes the same clove cigarettes, she wears the same deep red
lipstick, and she kisses with the same furor. As she presses into me now, I feel like I

Personal Narrative Analysis
I have a fully grown massive Rottweiler named Mayson. When I first received my
dog I had no idea that I was going to receive odd looks from people all over my
neighborhood. I did not know that this tailless, lovable creature would soon grow to
be my shadow of disapproval. To this day, they do not like looking at a five foot two
female walking a 103 pound black bear like doghalf her size. Throughout the years, I
have learned to cope with my so called bloodthirsty dog by taking her out for walks
when there are no sounds of children, strollers, or skateboards. I walk her late
because I do not like to receive dirty looks from my neighbors for they do not trust
my beast. My neighborhood once led me to believe the rumors about my black sheep

In a matter of seconds I told her drop it! as if it was a chew toy I wanted in my
possession. When I looked across the bare street the man with the cigar was
nowhere to be seen. I was by myself, with two animals that could possibly be
injured within the next couple of seconds. To my relief, Mayson let go of the dog.
As soon as she let the dog free it snapped at her front right paw. I quickly yelled
Mayson! in hopes of stopping her from focusing all of her attention onto the small
dog. At this moment, I thought that I had escaped the possible ridicule of my
neighbors but the same odious thoughts began flooding my head again. Once
Mayson looked up at me the Chihuahua began yapping and heading towards me as
its next target. Mayson quickly picked up the small dog again and began to shake
it faster because the dog had crossed the line. Once Mayson did this, I was certain
that it would be the last of the obnoxious dog s days. However, she released it again
and gave it a third chance. Thus, the dog ended up barking once and storming back
to its owner that was now standing in front of his lawn. I cringed at the sight of him

Let Us Now Praise Famous Men Essay
Let Us Now Praise Famous Men
Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, was written by James Agee and Walker Evans. The
story is about three white families of tenant farmers in rural Alabama. The
photographs in the beginning have no captions or quotations. They are just images of
three tenant farming families, their houses, and possessions. The photographs are not
illustrative. They, and the text, are coequal, mutually independent, and fully
collaborative. (87) The story and the photographs contain relationships between them;
in the essay I am going to inform you about the interpretations of the relationships
between the readings of James Agee and some of the pictures by Walker Evans. ...

This oil is not all oleaginous, but thin, brittle, rusty feeling, and sharp; taken and
rubbed between forefinger and thumb it so cleanses their grain that it sharpens their

In the picture on page (31) you see a small, wooden room, in the middle of this
room is a sturdy table with a peculiar tablecloth upon it; on this sturdy table is a
small, glass, oil burning lamp. The lamp s oil, interpreted to be their lives, hopes, and
dreams. This oil is either half full or half empty; surely I believe it is half full. In
the reading, the lamp s oil signifies life, hope, security and safety. James Agee places
these things at the center of the family s existence. This shows that the author of The
Country Letter places high respect towards these aspects in life. Their goals were to
live life to the fullest, no one else, but themselves could make them happy.
Of such ultimate, such holiness of silence and peace that all on earth and within
extremest remembrance seems suspended upon it in perfection as upon reflected

in not so much as touching this plain of water, I can tell you anything within the
realm of God. (104)
This quotation signifies the belief that James Agee is cradling something so perfect
and delicate that just by whispering its existence, he may just shatter the beauty. In the
Romeo And Juliet And West Side Story Analysis
West Side Story was based on the classic story of Romeo and Juliet. This story was
originally written in the 3rd Century and then re written by William Shakespeare in
1594. Shakespeare s version was based on a poem written by Arthur Brooks in
1562. The story of Romeo and Juliet is a love story/ tragedy about two families:
Capulet and Montague. Both families hate each other which leads to Romeo and
Juliet knowing that they cannot be married, even though they are in love. They
then try to arrange a secret wedding but Tybalt (Juliet s cousin) and Mercutio
(Romeo s close friend) get into a fight in which, Romeo gets in the middle of and
kills Tybalt. Juliet finds out about Tybalt s death and is mourning, to help, her dad
(Capulet) tells her that she should marry Paris ( the kingsman of the Prince)
However, to avoid marrying Paris, Juliet drinks a sleeping potion so that she
appears dead to everyone else. Romeo finds Juliet and, because he thinks she is
dead, he kills himself. Juliet wakes up to find Romeo dead and a result, she kills
herself too. Similarly, West Side Story is also about two very different groups in
New York City, 1950: The Sharks and The Jets. The Sharks group are a group of
boys from Puerto Rico and led by Bernardo. The Jets are an American group of
boys led by Riff. The story goes that the two rival groups (The Jets and the The
Sharks) can not coexist together. Former Jet and Riff s best friend, Tony and
Bernards younger Sister, Maria meet at a dance and instantly fall in love but know
that they cannot be together. They begin meeting in secret and plan to run away
together. The Jets and Sharks plan a rumble and whoever wins will gain control
over the streets. Maria sends Tony to stop it however, Bernard kills Riff and in
anger, Tony kills Bernard. He begs Maria for her forgiveness and they plan, again,
to leave the city. Bernards fiance, Anita is mauled by the Jets and as result, she tells
them that Maria is dead. Devastated Tony goes out to hunt for Chino (Maria s
murderer ) and runs into Maria in the playground. Overjoyed, the couple embrace
each other. Chino runs into the playground with a gun and shoots and kills Tony.
When the police arrive, both The Jets and The Sharks help
The Pros and Cons of Nationalism Essay example
Nationalism at its core is the support of a country. The goal of a country is to have
some sort of resonance within the individuals that reside there that call themselves
citizens. If the citizens don t feel any connection with their country, they may move
to find one that they feel closer too. Once found, they may support the country over
others, defend it within conversations of politics or just find groups that have the
same ideals they do about the country. This papers purpose is to illustrate the pros of
nationalism as well as its cons.
Beginning with America, there is a strong sense of nationalism. Being called patriotic
would signify you support America and the ideals the flag stands for. It has many
meanings to every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Great evidence of this is in Germany s history. Although repeated quite often as an
example of radical nationalism, this doesn t remove it from being a true and sad
example of nationalism in its worst form. The central leaders of Germany including
Hitler instituted anti Jew laws and once they were certain that the public agreed with
these, or at least didn t disagree, started implementing much more extreme laws
against the Jewish people. This created one of the worst genocides in the history of
mankind. (Krome, 2010) What Hitler did, was take the dislike of Jews that the
Muslims helped establish (Maghen, 2009) (Jeffrey, n.d.) , along with Christianity
that the Jews were a problem (Callahan, 2004). Having these to point to, he
directed an entire nation to become his Aryan race, and Jews weren t alone. Blacks
and all other races and religions or creeds were included in the category of being
removed, but it was largely the Jewish population affected.
In short, nationalism is both good and bad. It seems to block rational behavior and
logical thinking to be replaced by radical support for a cause. When it s functioning
well, it allows the citizens of a country to unite with each other and share a common
interest. Unfortunately this is hard to govern, and it seems to be directed by
government bodies and religion. Radical support can go either way, for or against
any topic. Middle ground isn t something

Zora Neale Hurston Characters
Almost every man in the world can be seen as good or bad in some way, shape, or
form. The novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, written by Zora Neale Hurston,
has many examples of how bystanders judge a man on his actions. The book is
about a woman named Janie who is on her journey to find true love and just like
everyone else, she has a few problems along the way. Throughout the novel, Janie is
with three different men. Two of the men she enjoys her life with, but only one of
them she loves dearly. The man she falls in lovewith is Tea Cake. Tea Cake is seen as
a bad person by the townspeople because they think he is with her for the wrong

he works hard to provide for her. He treats her the best a man could and also
provides an amazing life for her. Tea Cake is just an ordinary man that tries his best

A Beautiful Mind Analysis
Introduction
When watching A Beautiful Mind, it is hard for viewers to understand who is real
and who is imaginary until the truth is revealed. That is, in essence, what it would
be like to live in the mind of John Nash. A Beautiful Mind, directed by Ron Howard
and originally based on a biography by Sylvia Nasar, tells the story of John Forbes
Nash Jr., a Nobel Peace Prize winner and a recognized American mathematician with
schizophrenia. The main ethical dilemma, which isn t introduced until the latter part
of the movie, concerns Nash discontinuing his medication. If he discontinues his
medications, his illusions will come back. The dilemma is whether it is ethically
acceptable to let Nash discontinue his medication and continue to live at home or
whether he should be hospitalized. The ethical dilemma presented in the movie
impacts the characters in various ways, and the methods used to solve the dilemma
exposes ethical principles that are being abused and, oppositely, positive principles
used by the characters that are attempting to help Nash.
Summary of the content before the Dilemma
The first part of A Beautiful Mindintroduces Nash and his unique way of thinking.
It explains his initial breakthrough in mathematical theories and how he met his
wife. In addition, his imaginative characters played a major role in his actions
throughout the movie and can be easily thought of as realistic people by viewers
until his condition is revealed. An example of one of Nash s

The Lives of Slaves on Plantations vs. the Lives of Slaves...
The lives of Slaves on Plantations vs. the lives of Slaves in Big Cities During the
mid 18th century African Americans living in the United States were born, raised,
and sold as slaves. Many of them were transported from Africa to the Americas
through the middle passage. Arriving in the Americas, African Americans were
sold as slaves to slave owners during auctions and were sent out to different homes
in order to start their new lives. Many slaves were sent out to large rural
plantations in the South and many slaves were sent out to more urban areas like
the cities of New Orleans and Baltimore. The lives of slaves on plantations differed
greatly from the lives of slaves in the cities. Slaves who lived on plantations worked

Since many slaves were forced to work during hot and humid summer days without
any proper care, food, and clothing this caused them to be prone to illness.
Sicknesses such as yellow fever, malaria, and many other diseases caused the
deaths of many slaves working on plantations. The alarming amount of wide
spread disease was a big fear amongst plantation workers because many slaves were
scared that they too would catch something and die due to the lack of medications
and care. For slave owners the lives of slaves held no true value and were not
viewed as equals to the white race, as Marie St Claire, a slave owner states in
Uncle Tomes Cabin when she says, putting them on any sort of equality with us,
you know, as if we could be compared, why, it impossible! (151). Slaves were left to
fend for themselves, unattained to their needs any slaves watched others die right
in front of their very own eyes. If a slave misbehaved on the plantation his owner
would take violent measures such as beating him in order to teach him a lesson.
Some slave owners would even whip their slaves causing massive scars and bad
lashes all across their bodies (Berkin). Many of these injuries were not properly taken
care of and would easily get infected, which would leave the slaves in pain for long
periods of times. In his memoire Slave Life in Georgia, John Brown, a fugitive
The Effects Of Excessive Amounts Of Preservatives On The
Food
There are numerous problems going on in America currently; some have more
attention than others. The declining health due to a poor diet in America is one
problem that is recently receiving more attention, as it should. However, a major
factor is being overlooked. Excessive amounts of additives placed in foodis a problem.
These additives are causing numerous healthproblems that are literally killing us. I
am bringing up the idea that we need to demand the government and FDA to better
monitor what goes into our food. Consumers also need to demand a change. This
means choosing not to buy preserved food, cutting back on the unnatural foods, and
supporting farmer s markets. In this paper, I will argue that the excessive amounts of

Just like it is easy and quick to buy and consume preserved foods, it easier to make
them this way. By adding preservatives, producers are able to lengthen the amount
of time that they are still considered safe to eat. They are also used to add coloring,
flavoring, and vitamins or minerals that the food would otherwise be lacking. There
are two types of additives, natural and unnatural. Natural additives are items such as
salt, sugar, and vinegar. Unnatural additives are monosodium glutamate (a food
enhancer), benzoic acid (a preservative used in fruit juices), and food stabilizers such
as gums and waxes (H.S. Jeon). In addition to these, the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) is allowing about 3,000 more additives such as these in our
food.
Excessive amounts of additives in our food is a problem that is not receiving
enough attention from the government. Companies also seem unconcerned with the
problem because they are able to make large amounts of money by selling items in
larger packs. The shelf life of food is extended due to the preservatives, which
means it is cheaper for the consumer as well. Rather than having to buy food
continuously because it spoils, families are now able to buy food that will last for
long amounts of time, which means they will have to buy less.
Some argue that preservatives in our food is not as big of a problem as we are
making it to be. To provide some information on the

The Frontier Thesis Summary
The Frontier Thesis may play a heavy part in U.S. history, but there are implications
for truly understanding the outlines of this thesis. Fredrick Jackson Tuner during a
great meeting of American Historical Association on July 12th, 1893 in Chicago, a
paper named The Significance of the Frontier in American History. This paper
introduced an innovative way of astonishment to understanding the construction of
America. Turner envisioned that the history of America was not focused one the

thesis, he also didn t account for the flaws that were overlooked from his discernment
of the Frontier. (Tuner, pg. 1 9)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Turner, in the settlement of America we have to observe how
European life entered the continent, and how America modified and developed that
life and reacted on Europe. (Turner, pg. 2) It is believed that America was an
extension of Europe civilization just in a different land, but in Turner s thesis, is that
we developed new techniques and faced broadened challenges that change the way
we think in America. This is the key point of his argument, which the vast skills and
knowledge we acquired from the excursion westward, created a new society and left
the old influences behind. As stated by Turner, the existence of an area of free land,
its continuous recession, and the advance of American settlement westward, explain
American development. (Turner, pg. 1) He highly believes that the Frontier plays an
indispensable role in American History throughout the colonization of the West.

The World s Latest Events
Picture 60 years ago, there was only one source of information to seek out for
information on the world s latest events; the newspaper. The spreading of news was a
passive relationship, with producers distributing information down to consumers in a
linear formation. There was no option for the common citizen to instantly upload an
essay or photo with their views on current world events. Today we are much more
fortunate, there has been a power shift from traditional producers; creating an active
relationship when it comes to citizens participating in the news. Whether the user is
actively uploading information themselves or reading what others have posted, there
is a large jump in the number of people who feel the need to become involved in
todays happenings. With a large number of individuals spreading updates of the
worlds news there also comes advances in technology that aids the distribution of
such information. Multiple online platforms have been created to assist the public in
their ongoing quest to share information around the world.
As advances in technology rapidly grows in todays society, so does the number of
ways in which we can spread the information we are receiving. Individuals have the
ability to share current events as soon as they occur, rather than waiting for the
newspaper to cover only one aspect of the news story days after it has occurred. It s
becoming more uncommon for the average person to take the time to sit down and
watch the television or read

Rendering of services
When the outcome of a transaction involving the rendering of services can be
reliably estimated, revenue from the sale of services is based on the level of
completion of the transaction at the balance sheet date. The outcome of a transaction
can be measured reliably when: * The amount of the transaction can be reliably
assessed; * There will be probability to get economic benefits for the enterprise as a
result of this operation; * Level of completion of the transaction at the balance sheet
date can be assessed; * Costs that should be suffered relating to a transaction can be
measured reliably.
Revenue from the provision of goods and all services is only recognized when the
amounts to be recognized are fixed or determinable, and collectability is reasonably
assured (Elliot B., Elliot J., 2007)
Interest, royalties and dividends
IAS 18 considers the accounting procedure of potential components of revenue

First Impressions Essay
First impressions are what set the tone in any situation, personal or professional, and
ultimately determine how we proceed behaviorally in that situation. Within a matter
of seconds, a person will make their assessment of another person or a situation an
assessment that will carry through the remainder of the relationship. And while
what we say may have an impact on how another person perceives us, studies have
shown that much of our first impressions are based on body language. Body
Language is comprised of various elements that when projected collectively, send
non verbal cues as to a person s overall personality. Something as simple as a

They are rejuvenated by interactions with others and take great joy in socializing.
Introvert is conversely defined as one whose personality is characterized by the state
of or tendency toward being wholly or predominantly concerned with and interested
in one s own mental life. While introverts are not necessarily self centered, per se,
their behaviors are less focused on others. They tend to enjoy being alone and gain
great satisfaction from private time, not needing the social interactions to fulfill
them. In the scenario in which John is defined as an extrovert, we see that his out
of office venture is filled with human interaction. While any trip to the store may
involve some interaction, John is unique in that he finds the opportunities to
interact. He proactively seeks out chances to talk to and socialize with the people
along his travels. We find in John the Extrovert , that he knows people everywhere
he goes. As we meet John the Introvert , we clearly see a very different experience.
Although the sunny day gleamed along the street, John opts for the shady side of the

How Assumptions of Consensus Undermine Decision Making
Cover Letter People are always trying to come to a consensus that they know
something or someone before they get the true in depth details. This more often
than not leads them to making false assumptions. False assumptions are a misuse
of statistics and occurs when a statistical argument asserts a falsehood. At the end
of the day these false assumptions lead us to looking stopid in the end as we were
proven wrong. What I want to know is what always proppels us to want to jump to
conclusion before we get to know someone or something. In my essay I will
explain why people jump to conclusion and what ways we can help ourselves not
make these false assumptions. Jumping to conclusion We always think we know
something or someone better than we actually do. More times than not these
assumptions or educated guesses what many people call them are more often wrong
the majority of the times. We always try to go with our gut feeling on something
that propels us to jump the gun and make a false assumption which makes us look
like a fool at the end of the day. In my last two essays I proved the point how we
make false assumptions that propel us to jump to conclusion and how more times
than not our conclusion that we make is false. After doing an extensive amount of
research im writing to figure out why we make these false assumptions that propel us
to jump to conclusion. The personal assumptions that undermine people s decisions
making are unconscious. In how assumptions of
Claudio in Much Ado About Nothing
Katherine Paterson says, Real maturity, which most of us never achieve, is when you
realize that you re not the center of the universe. Claudio, a character from Much
Ado About Nothing, is a perfect example of this quote. Throughout most of the play
Claudio is only concerned about how other people and events affect him. However,
the obstacles and positions he is put in do not help the situation. The one of the main
themes of this play is deception, which Claudio, as well as most of the other
characters in the play, fall victim. In Much Ado About NothingClaudio begins the
play with a tendency to be very gullible and paranoid about everything, and he
continues to show his immaturity by seeking revenge when he is upset; Claudio

But fare thee well, most foul, most fair, farewell; Thou pure impiety and impious
purity, for thee I ll lock up all the gates of love (67 68.) This quote is another
example of how cruel Claudio was to Hero at their wedding day, which was
supposed to be a happy event. Claudio shows how malicious he can be by leaving
her at the altar, in front of all her friends and family, publically shaming her in the
process. It also shows how he tends to think the worst of those around him and his
need to get even. This need to humiliate her shows he is really only considered with
himself and his happiness.
Claudio finally grows to maturity when he takes responsibility for Hero s death
and graciously complies to do whatever Leonato asks as punishment. After Hero s
death Claudio goes back to Leonato to apologize, I know not how to pray for your
patience, Yet I must speak. Choose your revenge yourself; Impose me to what
penance your intervention. Can lay upon my sin. Yet sinned I not but in mistaking
(88 89.) This apology by Claudio shows a lot of courage and humility, both signs of
maturity. It is always hard to admit doing something wrong, especially if what was
done has affected someone else. This act shows a lot of courage on Claudio s part
because the punishment could have been very severe, seeing as Leonato is governor
of Messina. He apologizes because even though he was hurt by Hero s supposed
betrayal,
Regulate Use of Cell Phones on the Road
When a cell phone goes off in a classroom or at a concert, people are irritated, but at
least lives are not endangered. When on the road, however, irresponsible cell
phone users are more than irritating: They are putting our lives at risk. Many of us
have witnessed drivers so distracted by dialing and chatting that they resemble
drunk drivers, weaving between lanes, for example, or nearly running down
pedestrians in crosswalks. A number of bills to regulate use of cell phones on the
road have been introduced in state legislatures, and the time has come to push for
their passage. Regulation is needed because drivers using phones are seriously
impaired and because laws on negligent and reckless driving are not sufficient to
punish offenders... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The latter statistic is interesting, for it suggests that those who carry phones in their
cars may tend to be more negligent or prone to distractions of all kinds than those
who do not. Some groups have argued that state traffic laws make legislation
regulating cell phone use unnecessary. Sadly, this is not true. Laws on traffic safety
vary from state to state, and drivers distracted by cell phones can get off with light
punishment even when they cause fatal accidents. Although the midshipman
mentioned earlier was charged with vehicular manslaughter for the deaths of John
and Carole Hall, the judge was unable to issue a verdict of guilty. Under Maryland
law, he could only find the defendant guilty of negligent driving and impose a $500
fine (Layton C1). Such a light sentence is not unusual. The driver who killed
Morgan Pena in Pennsylvania received two tickets and a $50 fine and retained his
driving privileges (Pena). In Georgia, a young woman distracted by her phone ran
down and killed a two year old; her sentence was ninety days in boot camp and five
hundred hours of community service (Ippolito J1). The families of the victims are
understandably distressed by laws that lead to such light sentences. When certain
kinds of driver behavior are shown to be especially dangerous, we wisely draft
special laws making them illegal and imposing specific punishments. Running red
lights, failing to stop for a school bus, and drunk driving are obvious

To increase the effectiveness of proposed changes and improvements, organizations
use multiple scientific methods and techniques. For change to be successful
management must develop political support. This support is necessary because to
initiate change management must have political power within the organization and
outside of the organization. This power is often necessary to ensure a smooth
transition during the development process (Authenticity Consulting, 2011).
Organizational development of a business may appear to be an extensive and
complicated process; however, given the right conditions the change can be almost
seamless. To have successful change a crucial component is communication. Another
condition that would assist with successful organizational development is preparing
and conditioning employees for change. This is an area where communication is
pertinent. A business that has effective communication with employees with clients
and with stakeholders will have an easier transition. It is important for employees to
understand the changes taking place, why the changes are taking place and the role
he or she has in the transition. Aside from communication, another crucial component
necessary to ensure change is support. Without support, change would be impossible.
Support from management is especially important because

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Parliamentary And...
INTRODUCTION
Democratic government can be parliamentary or presidential. The difference between
these two forms of governments depends upon the relationship between the executive
and legislative organs of the government. If the executive and legislature are unified
and controlled under the control of same persons, so that there is assurance of
harmony between these two branches and also the executive is responsible to the
legislative body for his policies and actions, such a system is parliamentary . If the
executive and legislature are separate and the executive is not responsible to the

In this way, it is ensured that the government is, at all times, conscious of fulfilling
its responsibilities and promises regarding general welfare of the public without fail
because failure to do so will affect the electoral prospects of the government in the
next elections. There is flexibility in the parliamentary system as it is highly
adaptive to changing situations. For instance, if there is situation of emergency the
leadership could be changed without any kind of hassle. As in England it happened
during World War II when Mr. Chamberlain had step down for Mr. Winston Churchil
to handle the war. Moreover, the elections can be deferred till normalcy is restored.
Such flexibility can only be seen in the parliamentary system whereas there is no
flexibility in the Presidential system which is a highly rigid system.
Another important characteristic of this system is swiftness in decision making and
policy formulations for the purpose of governance of the country as pointed out by

In line with the current trends of climate change, there is great need to protect the
environment we live in. Some of the actions we take towards environmental
protection may have a plan to safeguard the environment whereas others might do so
automatically even if our intentions were to achieve something else. What does this
mean? The answer is simple; some of the projects we embark on follow the concept
of Collins and Scott, where nature participates in its evolution without our direct
intervention. In my project, I intend to make decorative flowers from disposable

In my project, I intend to make several flowers of different shapes and sizes from
the plastic cups with the aim of taking them to the market for sale. The task will be
very easy considering that the labor will be cheap and the equipments needed for
successful execution will just be ordinary tools found around our houses. The
jobless, younger generation will form part of my working team and together, I
believe we will be able to collect huge piles of plastic cups from household solid
wastes and make a considerable number of decorative flowers for sale. While
carrying out the project, I look forward to liaise with other concerned individuals,
groups, or organizations that will facilitate its growth and ensure that any good
objective, planned or unplanned for the project, is attainable at the end of the day.
For example, I will expect to work with environmental movements and groups that
will ensure segregation of the plastics takes place from other wastes and availed

important element of waste management and the management of plastic wastes is a
very difficult process considering the fact that plastics do not decompose like the
biodegradable wastes. In addition, I will anticipate working with persons from other
fields such as entrepreneurs, marketers, and so forth. Collaborating with
Rhetorical Analysis Of Zeitoun
In his documentative account, Zeitoun, altruistic author Dave Eggers illustrates the
experiences of one muslim man, Abdulrahman Zeitoun, and his struggle to respond
to and cope with the trials facing society and nature following Hurricane Katrina. By
describing the destructive flooding of his home and his neighborhood, Eggers
establishes a desperate tone, as a race against time ensues to save what is left. As the
physical landscape drastically changes, so do the very morals and establishments that
hold society together. Eggers utilizes several rhetorical strategies to highlight the
cruel and destructive stigmatization of Muslim Americans in a post 9 11 society, and
that in times of calm or chaos, the common man is the same despite the labels... Show

As previously established using ethos, Eggers portrays Zeitoun as a reliable
protagonist, a man who shares many of the same morals and ethics with other
human beings alike despite the small label of being of arab descent and of the
muslim fate. Similarly, Eggers relies upon the appeal of pathos to render the reader
sympathetic for Zeitoun, in order to achieve the same effect. When the flood from
the damaged levies reaches Zeitoun s neighborhood, Eggers demonizes the
floodwater, describing it as almost animalistic using verbs such as swallowed and
crawled when referencing the water flooding the property. This use of
personification reveals Eggers motive to bring to light the helplessness felt by
Zeitoun to save what he has left from the damaging waters. In this Man versus Nature
situation, the reader feels the impact of the flood tearing away at what Zeitoun has
built for himself. The stigma that Eggers wishes to make redundant, and the same
that would label Zeitoun a terrorist need not apply here. The response Eggers wishes
to trigger from the audience is that of sympathy and

The Gender Pay Gap In The Workplace
Females make up half the workforce, yet in 2015, full time working females made
only eighty cents for every dollar earned by males, a gender wage gap of 20 percent.
Women, on average, obtain less than men in essentially every occupation for which
an earning ratio is a component. The gender pay gap in America is unjust and sexist.
Women are not inferior to men, especially in the workplace. As a strong, ever
changing society women should no longer have to deal with any discriminatory
attitudes against gender, race, or religion. One significant discrimination problem the
world population is fighting, takes place in the workplace. Women, who are as
equally trained and educated, and with the same experience as men are not getting
the equal pay they deserve. The gender pay gap is the average difference between a
man and a womans remuneration. There are two distinct numbers regarding the
pay gap: unadjusted versus adjusted pay gap, which takes into account differences
in hours worked, careers chosen, education, and job experience. The gap has
narrowed since the 1970s, due largely to women s progress in education and
workforce participation and to men s wages rising at a slower rate. Still, the pay
gap does not appear likely to disappear on its own. At the rate of change between
1960 and 2016, women are expected to reach pay equality with men in 2059. But,
even that slow progress has stalled in recent years. If change continues at the slower

Character Analysis Of Wonder Woman
In today s society there are many different figures to look up to especially those
who seem to posses special powers like super heroes. Most superheroes are similar
but there s one that is very different from the rest and her name is Wonder Woman.
She fights evil while still being a Woman making her the ultimate hero for any young
girl to look up to.
Although he didn t picture a woman in his role of a less masculine superman, the
idea of Wonder Woman was first originally created in 1941 by William Moulton
Marston. She was used to be seen as a World War II hero and warrior by having the
strength and power of a man but the grace and beauty of a lady. Wonder Woman fears
nothing. She stands for justice, equality, and America. (Arnold Forster). Since She
was built off of honesty and feminism she carries a whip that stands for the truth and
uses it against her enemies leaving her to be the ultimate hero.
Wonder Woman has many hero like qualities that make her such an amazing
leader. The very first quality she possesses is her ambition. Her ambitious actions
influence her ways of looking and acting like a hero. The second major quality
Wonder Woman holds is her nobility, because she is selfless and strives to save the
lives of anyone and everyone. Not only is she good at what she does but she also
has a great passion for it. She always strives to be better and loves the help she
gives. The morals of Wonder Woman are set extremely high making her an
outstanding influence for all people. Her independence and intelligence allows her
to take risks and be confident in her actions. The last quality Wonder Woman
possesses is one of the most important which is her ability to see those for who they
really are, because it is incredibly easy for her to not only spot her allies but to see
her enemies as well. It is these qualities, among others, that prove Wonder Woman is
a worthy opponent as well as a great role model for younger generations. (Callender).
Because Wonder Woman is a female she is bound to face challenges that most
heroes do not. Taking on a role of a hero is usually seen as a man s place because
most heroes are males so naturally it is going to be more challenging for Wonder
Woman to
Quantum Cumputers Essay examples
Quantum Cumputers By the strange laws of quantum mechanics, Folger, a senior
editor at Discover, notes, an electron, proton, or other subatomic particle is in more
than one place at a time, because individual particles behave like waves, these
different places are different states that an atom can exist in simultaneously. Ten years
ago, Folger writes, David Deutsch, a physicist at OxfordUniversity, argued that it
may be possible to build an extremely powerful computer based on this peculiar
reality. In 1994, Peter Shor, a mathematician at AT T Bell Laboratories in New Jersey,
proved that, in theory at least, a full blown quantum computer could factor even the

In our computers, circuit boards are designed so that a 1 or a 0 is represented by
differing amounts of electricity, the outcome of one possibility has no effect on the
other. However, a problem arises when quantum theories are introduced, the outcomes
come from a single piece of hardware existing in two separate realities and these
realties overlap one another affecting both outcomes at once. These problems can
become one of the greatest strengths of the new computer however, if it is possible to
program the outcomes in such a way so that undesirable effects cancel themselves out
while the positive ones reinforce each other. This quantum system must be able to
program the equation into it, verify its computation, and extract the results.
Several possible systems have been looked at by researchers, one of which involves
using electrons, atoms, or ions trapped inside of magnetic fields, intersecting lasers
would then be used to excite the confined particles to the right wavelength and a
second time to restore the particles to their ground state. A sequence of pulses could
be used to array the particles into a pattern usable in our system of equations.
Another possibility by Seth Lloyd of MIT proposed using organic metallic polymers
(one dimensional molecules made of repeating atoms). The energy states of a given
atom would be determined by its interaction with neighboring atoms in the chain.

American Alliance in WWI vs. Our Failing Economy Essays
In World War I many soldiers were sent to Europe to fight for the democracy of
other countries. The idea of being part of the war was to be heroes in one of the
biggest conflict of the world. The U.S. was convinced that if they could send forces
to Europe and help the Allied Forces to win the war, they would gain a better status
worldwide as the country that saved the peace and democracy. Therefore, the United
Statesgovernment sent thousands of soldiers to fight the war. A big problem came
later, when the war finished and the soldiers came back to America, they were broken
and unemployed. Thousands of veterans were now without their full capacities and
unemployed, so Texas Congressman Wright Patman proposed a bill that would give a

It will be impossible for the Police Department to maintain law and order except by
the free use of firearms. Said the commissioner; leading to President Hoover to take
control with the Army of United States protesters. The other great factor that
influenced in how President Hoover handled the situation of the Bonus Marchers was
the fact that the American Communist Party was involved. One of their leaders, John
Pace, was immersed in the protesters with the mission of developing a stronger
manifestation against the government; however, the Communist Party did not have a
big number of people inside of the riot. Although they took responsibility of the
manifestations and declared that they were leaders and pioneers in arguing in favor
of the Patman s Bill, the truth is that communist were only a few and it is not too
clear if they influenced in the way that the manifestation was done. President Hoover
though, saw that communists were part of this riot and he was afraid of an uprising
in Washington, so he tried everything that was on his power to stop the protest. Also,
he saw the rebellion as a militia that was trying to destroy capitalism by the force,
instead of seeing that the true people who were fighting were unemployed, starving
veterans, looking for solutions.
Every event in human history is marked by its context. The sociocultural background

The Importance Of Cultural Differences
My upbringing is atypical compared to most white, middle class females, I would
also assume different than my classmates. What once caused me a sense a dread
now gives me a sense of pride because I have lived a life others have not. I feel I
have a better understanding of the diversity of the community than people I know.
I frankly did not need an assessment to point out my knowledge of cultural
differences as I have lived with many diverse cultures. I explain to my children that
they are at a disadvantage growing up here as there are not the cultural differences
like we had in Georgia, especially where I lived. My hometown is also the home
for one of the largest nuclear submarine bases. I was fortunate to grow up with
many diverse cultures as the Navy brings diverse backgrounds into an area. I have
explained to my children that I believe prejudices form from ignorance. Our school
assimilated the diverse cultures and brought their histories into our education. There
is a biasagainst the South being racist, and there is truth in that. I would argue,
though that here in the Northeast I have seen more prejudices from people that I
did down south. While growing up I lived with many different races, cultures,
religions, and people of different sexual orientation than mine. What I quickly
learned was that we are all the same, and the differences are just in our mind. As I
have explained to my children, prejudices are useless as people show you what they
want you to
Implementation Of Characters And Platform Design
Implementation characters platform design Most of the detached body and
platform elements were imported through asset store of Unity and the rest of them
were found online, which saves lots of time for us in preparation phase. We
designed totally three characters by splicing all the individual parts of the body
then created 4 animations, running, jumping, standing and idly for each. The most
important part when doing this is setting the layers and the hierarchical structure
of parts of the body to be more lifelike according to the real physical model.
Similarly, the animations of each character meet the needs of actions in game
time. Figure 3 places the basic profile of characters we designed. Figure 3.
Character profiles After the preparation of characters, the phase coms to the
platform design. The main platform contains 5 main layers laying out the players,
background, UI, front ground and tiles. With distinguished layers of the objects in
scenes, we could use camera s culling mask to render objects or write special events
for certain layers. For example, background layer is for the basic background of
the platform while front ground is the front landscape up forward the players and
tiles. There all the objects placed in the scenes are just for normal pass mode
because the platform for this mode is fixed since the difficulty of each level should
be increasing with certain level design. First, we edited the segment items and
merged then into single object which can be
Scarlet Letter Essay
A common theme throughout literature is religion and how the author feels about his
or her faith. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses rhetorical devices to draw comparisons
between characters and events in The Scarlet Letter and Biblical figures and
accounts. A few of the devices found in this novel that connect it to the Bible are
symbolism, paradox, allusions, and characterization. It is important to first look at the
characters and how they are described through characterization.
The first rhetorical device is characterization. The way the main characters are
described by Hawthorne sets up how they will be perceived. It is through this that
we see the first inklings of biblical figures. Biblical characters are seen ... Show more

However, when you examine them in greater depth it becomes apparent that there is
more to them than there originally appeared to be. The first is that of the scarlet letter
itself. The A was originally intended to show people that the person wearing it was
a sinner who had committed adultery. However, as the novel develops it becomes
more of a sign of heaven through the meaning of angel. This is first seen when an A
appears in the sky shortly after the death of Governor Winthrop. It is at this time that
the townspeople decide this is a sign that Governor Winthrop was a good Christian
who has gone on to a better life. But the townspeople cannot help but realize that this
is the same thing which the have made one of their own people, Hester, wear. Another
symbol is found in what is one of Hester s greatest skills. Her ability with a needle
to sew and embroider better than anyone else has a lot more meaning than there
appears to be. Hester uses sewing as her outlet when she is condemned by the
townspeople, but it is through her seclusion and the sewing she does during her time
alone that strengthens her faith in herself and God, much like Mary did after she
first learned of her pregnancy. This faith proves very helpful to her in more trying
times. Yet another symbol is made through the rosebush. The rose bush is a symbol
of sin, and Pearl continues to claim
Significance Of Nelson Mandela
The focal point of this investigation assessment will be How significant was Nelson
Mandela s role in the culmination of Apartheid system in South Africa during 20th
century? In order to evaluate Mandela s significance, the investigation is based on
his role in each stage of the consummation of this segregator system by which the
white minority in the country wanted to preserve the power, so they established all
kinds of laws that covered, in general, social aspects during the National Party
performance in 1948. Thus, the letters from Mandela to Hendrik Verwoerd
regarded as the mastermind behind socially engineering and implementing the
racial policies of apartheid, and the Speech to the Foreign Policy Association are
sources of a peculiar importance to this investigation, due to the evidence of
struggle and resignation that Mandela feel as a leader. People forget how hard the
struggle was to be for decades afterwards. The resistance and revolution had been
closed down, leaders such as Mandela imprisoned, tortured, banned or... Show more

Louis Riel s Treatment Of The Insane Essay
I am born 1835 and am a physician and a superintendent from the Toronto Lunatic
Asylum. I have had 10 years of the treatment of the insane. When I had encountered
Riel, he imagined that he would go to Saskatchewan and he would gather such a big
force so that he would become the monarch of Saskatchewan. I think that no sane
man would think of such things. He had travelled between Ottawa and The United
States as well as knowing the powers of Britain. For him to think that he would be
able to train a successful army out of untrained Saskatchewanpeople as well as
believing that he would divide the country into seven divisions would not be normal
with a man with this understanding. He also is a Roman Catholic and among them,
he went among endeavoring to conciliate them to get them educated on the schemes
that he had and says that he wants to dispose the pope.
I also have a source of several other thing of Riel s youth. Bishop Tache has shown
me letters from Riel that shows that he has a boastful and presumptuous nature. ...

His father s death caused Louis excessive grief. My wife and I brought him from
college to our home to console him, but he was broken hearted, inconsolable. I saw
that his profound grief affected his mind which was manifested by the
exaggerations of an eccentric religion; he threw himself into an excess of piety and
held religious views which I found unreasonable. My wife noticed it too and said he
became very melancholy . After that, I was told that Louis Riel had still remained
solitary even after a long time after his father had died. Riel had hallucinations as
well as telling people that he looked like Louis Riel s twin brother and that Louis Riel
had drowned in the Mississippi river. This shows that as Louis Riel was so filled of
sorrow that saying that he supposedly drowned in the Mississippi river might have

Republican Party Research Paper
As many American Liberals have noticed the Democratic Party, supposedly their
party, has been losing big electorally. The presidency, the majority of state
governorships, both houses of congress and the majority of state assemblies have
been lost by the Democrats to the Republican Party. This has left many Democratic
citizens wondering, what happened? Why did their party suddenly fall from favor
with the voting public? Though I do not hold myself out as having a definitive
answer I do have a hunch as to why the Democrats have been losing big at the polls.
And fair warning, though I will try to keep this as neutral as possible political biases
do have a pesky way of sneaking into these things.

Their political strategies thus treat votes like sales and elections as winning
market share in political power. They don t get hung up on soundness of
arguments nor their basis in factuality. All they focus on is saying what they need
to say in order to win votes. A big technique that I ve seen used, especially by
Donald Trump is appealing to confirmation bias, which my inner philosophy minor
reminds me is a logical fallacy. Nevertheless it works and Trump won far more
support than anyone predicted he would. This tactic is one that is commonly used
by marketers to elicit a particular behavior from groups of people and it transfers
over seamlessly to the political realm. The legal and academic argumentation
techniques used by the Democrats were never meant to be used to elicit any
behavior as such it comes as no surprise that they don t transfer over to politics nearly

My Struggles With Anti-Intellectualism
Anti Intellectualism According to the American Heritage Dictionary, anti
intellectualism is defined, as a noun, a feeling of dislike towards intellectuals and
activities involving intellectual thinking (American HeritageВ® Dictionary of the
English Language). I have 2 articles, the first one Paul Stoller s My Struggles With
Anti Intellectualism and the second article I found on the UNA library page
Academic Search Complete called Student Anti Intellectualism and College Major by
Antonio Laverghetta. Both talk about how college majors or fields are related to the
levels of anti intellectualism. I would like to explain and compare both articles
starting with Paul Stoller s.
Paul Stoller s article talks about how he felt about anti intellectualism from people
who commented on a blog post he made on the Huffington Post. He talks about how
some of the comments left were people who opposed intellectualism. He says how
some of the commentators thought critical thinking was a waste of time and
subjects such as philosophy, art or anthropology are as well (Stoller). He talks about
how he grew up in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chinese Jack The Ripper Arrest Essay
Chinese Jack the Ripper Caught
Finally, the women in Baiyin, China can breathe a little easier. For more than 28
years, the residents of this city in the Northwestern province of Gansu lived in fear
of the serial killer called the Chinese Jack the Ripper. But, that all ended on August
26, 2016, with the arrest of 52 year old Gao Chengyong by the local police. Gao
was working in his Baiyin grocery store when he was taken into custody. As
reported by London s BBC News on August 29, 2016, http://www.bbc.com/news
/world asia china 37211650, Gao admitted to the ghastly killings of 11 young females
that spanned a period of 14 years, from 1988 to 2002. He did not explain why he

The victim was a 23 year old Baiyin female who was found in her home with 26
wounds in her body. The youngest victim was an 8 year old girl. A police profile
on the crimes indicated that the killer was a male, aged 33 to 40, who was attracted
to young females dressed in red. The killer would follow the women home, rape
them, slash their throats, and then mutilate their sexual organs. The sixth victim was
found with her breasts, hands, and ears cut off. It was the resemblance between the
savage destruction of the Baiyin victims bodies and those of the women killed by
London s infamous Jack the Ripper that led the police to nickname their killer the
Chinese Jack the Ripper.
Baiyin police were at a loss as to who raped, killed, and mutilated the local women.
They collected enough fingerprints and semen from the crime scenes to tie the 11
murders together, but they could not match the DNA evidence to anyone
registered as living in Baiyin. And that is exactly how Gao managed to stay free
for 28 years. Gao was registered in Qingcheng and never registered himself in
Baiyin. In 2004, the authorities offered a 200,000 yuan reward ($30,000) for
information leading to the arrest of the killer. Despite the generous offer, no leads
ever materialized, and the case went
Leonardo Da Vinci
I.Brief Biography A.Childhood Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452, in
a farmhouse nestled amid the rolling hills of Tuscany outside the village of
Anchiano in modern Italy. Born out of wedlock to respected Florentine notary Ser
Piero and a young peasant woman named Caterina, he was raised by his father and
his stepmothers. Little is known about Leonardo s early life. He spent his first five
years in the hamlet of Anchiano in the home of his mother, then from 1457 he lived
in the household of his father, grandparents and uncle, Francesco, in the small town
of Vinci. Leonardo grew up on his father s family s estate, where he was treated as a
legitimate son and received the usual elementary education of that day: reading,
writing, and arithmetic. Leonardo did not seriously study... Show more content on

The Lady with an Ermine The Lady with an Ermine was relatively a unique
painting during the fourteenth century. This was because of its introduction to oil
paint, which was still new in Italy. The painting was made around 1470. The
painting is a portrait of Cecilia Gallerani, who was the mistress of Ludovico Sforza.
The painting depicts a young woman in simple clothing during those times holding
ermine or a stoat. The woman can be seen not looking directly at the painter but
rather looking in the distance as if she were looking at someone else. The ermine
was a symbol of purity and was used by this portrait to imply the purity and
innocence of Cecilia. 4.St. John the Baptist Considered one of the most unsettling
paintings found in the Louvre, the St. John the Baptist painting exudes a level of
depth and mystery because of the simplicity and almost one tonal color of painting.
The use of the art technic sfumato magnifies the ambiguity the painting is trying to
convey. Another interesting fact about this painting is that he used his apprentice
Salai as his model. Salai was one of his most favorite apprentices and friends. Salai
served da Vinci until Leonardo
The Effects Of Multitasking On College Students
While the consequences for teens who multitask during school time are severe, Luke
3 multitasking also results in an excessive amount of wasted time. It takes several
tenths of a second for the cerebral cortex to switch from one task to another, and
those tenths are what cause teens problems (Kuchinas, Why MultitaskingIsn t
Efficient ). The timeit takes to switch tasks decreases focus, which makes teens
slower in their activity ( Keim, Is Multitasking Bad For Us?). An experiment
conducted by Isenburg placed 89 college students in three different groups, assigning
them to read a psychology text. One group received instant messages before reading,
one group received them after, and one group received no instant messages while
reading. The results of the procedure revealed that the groups which read the instant
messages took considerably longer to read the text than those who didn t receive
messages (46, 47).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Multitasking not only wastes time, but creates habits of speed and switching for
teens. Speed is the modern, natural high, asserts Dr. Edward Hallowell (Kuchinas,
Why Multitasking Isn t Efficient ). With teens wanting to constantly change
interests, social media devices are extremely popular. This atmosphere can become
problematic in the real world, since there are many times when teens will have to
focus on one activity. As PhD David Meyer states, Doing several tasks
simultaneously may seem like the height of efficiency and it would be, if a person
had more than one brain. In the real world, multitasking actually wastes time and
reduces work quality ( Why Multitasking Isn t Efficient ) The
The Structure of Biblical Authority
In his book, Structure of Biblical Authority, Meredith Kline explains, describes, and
defends the suzerain vassal paradigm of the biblical covenant and canon of Scripture.
Scripture s authority, according to Kline is not merely related to its ontology (that
God has spoken it); but in its basic economic form, Scripture is a covenantal
document and therefore is authoritative. It is through this covenant that God binds
himself to his covenant people and they to him. As our covenant suzerain, God
sovereignly rules his vassals with covenant stipulations.
Part One
In chapter one, Formal Origins of Biblical Canon, Kline shows how the origin of the
Old Testament canon, coincided with the founding of Israel at the establishment of

Rather, as Kline shows, they are two identical tablets; one was for the suzerain, the
other for the people. Such is the nature of a covenant. Jesus summary of the law into
two commands was not to distinguish to separable areas of life, but two
complementary aspects of our responsibility.
In chapter two, Dynastic Covenant, Kline answers several errant views of the nature
and meaning of Deuteronomy. Kline shows that the basic structure of the book is
actually covenantal: preamble (1:1 5), prologue (1:6 4:49), stipulations (5 26), curses
and blessings (27 30), and succession arrangements (31 34).
The intrusion is Kline s address chapter three, The Intrusion and the Decalogue. Due
to the Fall, we must await the consummation during which even creation groans and
travails in birth pains. Yet there is an intrusion of the is consummation which breaks
through beforehand. This is easily seen in Christ and the Spirit in the New
Testament, but what about the Old? This intrusion has realized eschatology at its
very core, in its symbolism we may see the already not yet . There is in the Old
Testament an anticipation of the ethics of the world to come. Understanding this will
aid in keeping us from assuming God s prerogative to abrogate the principle of
common grace. Kline discusses how this intrusion can be properly seen in the ethics

  • 2. Personal Narrative-Anastazie And The Clove Girl Anastazie s cherry red lipstick smelled of clove cigarettes and cheap cologne. Her lips tasted spicy as I pressed mine into her s. I missed that spicy taste, the taste of Libena; her deep blue shirtwaist dress painted with a surge of electric crimson. Back when she was alive, a long clove cigarette always hung between her slightly gapped teeth as she spoke, then she would effortlessly pull back to produce a thick puff of smoke. She was from a small town slightly east of Potsdam; orphaned after her parents were heard for war crimes. They held American ideals, ones of libertarianism, and that was not acceptable in the east. She couldn t stay Potsdam due to the memories of her family, and her family s store was quickly bankrupt thanks to the rations. We first met at the grandiose train station in southern Prague. Her deep crimson lips were twisted around a clove cigarette and her shoulders trembling under a ratted light blue shaw. Her beauty made me need to speak to her, and she told me she had no place to stay in the city. After some convincing on my part, I took her with me to my small apartment. She was a great conversationalist and had the ability to entertain me for hours upon hours. I fell deeply in love with her, then when I confessed this she said she felt the same. I married her and had a child. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, her heart rate sped up and her chart went high. She convulsed, screamed, and begged for help. I yelled for the doctors, but they never came to help. I grabbed the defibrillator off the wall, and for a second her pink lips opened into a scream. I smiled, thinking she would be okay. Then, she collapsed back onto the bed and never got up. When I see the demon child I have mixed feelings. Her hair frames her face like Libena, she smokes the same clove cigarettes, she wears the same deep red lipstick, and she kisses with the same furor. As she presses into me now, I feel like I m kissing Libena

  • 4. Personal Narrative Analysis I have a fully grown massive Rottweiler named Mayson. When I first received my dog I had no idea that I was going to receive odd looks from people all over my neighborhood. I did not know that this tailless, lovable creature would soon grow to be my shadow of disapproval. To this day, they do not like looking at a five foot two female walking a 103 pound black bear like doghalf her size. Throughout the years, I have learned to cope with my so called bloodthirsty dog by taking her out for walks when there are no sounds of children, strollers, or skateboards. I walk her late because I do not like to receive dirty looks from my neighbors for they do not trust my beast. My neighborhood once led me to believe the rumors about my black sheep because... In a matter of seconds I told her drop it! as if it was a chew toy I wanted in my possession. When I looked across the bare street the man with the cigar was nowhere to be seen. I was by myself, with two animals that could possibly be injured within the next couple of seconds. To my relief, Mayson let go of the dog. As soon as she let the dog free it snapped at her front right paw. I quickly yelled Mayson! in hopes of stopping her from focusing all of her attention onto the small dog. At this moment, I thought that I had escaped the possible ridicule of my neighbors but the same odious thoughts began flooding my head again. Once Mayson looked up at me the Chihuahua began yapping and heading towards me as its next target. Mayson quickly picked up the small dog again and began to shake it faster because the dog had crossed the line. Once Mayson did this, I was certain that it would be the last of the obnoxious dog s days. However, she released it again and gave it a third chance. Thus, the dog ended up barking once and storming back to its owner that was now standing in front of his lawn. I cringed at the sight of him just standing there while I had to deal with Tom and Jerry because
  • 5. Let Us Now Praise Famous Men Essay Let Us Now Praise Famous Men Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, was written by James Agee and Walker Evans. The story is about three white families of tenant farmers in rural Alabama. The photographs in the beginning have no captions or quotations. They are just images of three tenant farming families, their houses, and possessions. The photographs are not illustrative. They, and the text, are coequal, mutually independent, and fully collaborative. This oil is not all oleaginous, but thin, brittle, rusty feeling, and sharp; taken and rubbed between forefinger and thumb it so cleanses their grain that it sharpens their mutual touch to a new coin edge.(102) In the picture on page (31) you see a small, wooden room, in the middle of this room is a sturdy table with a peculiar tablecloth upon it; on this sturdy table is a small, glass, oil burning lamp. The lamp s oil, interpreted to be their lives, hopes, and dreams. This oil is either half full or half empty; surely I believe it is half full. In the reading, the lamp s oil signifies life, hope, security and safety. James Agee places these things at the center of the family s existence. This shows that the author of The Country Letter places high respect towards these aspects in life. Their goals were to live life to the fullest, no one else, but themselves could make them happy. Of such ultimate, such holiness of silence and peace that all on earth and within extremest remembrance seems suspended upon it in perfection as upon reflected water: and I feel that if I can by utter quietness succeed in not disturbing this silence, in not so much as touching this plain of water, I can tell you anything within the realm of God. (104) This quotation signifies the belief that James Agee is cradling something so perfect and delicate that just by whispering its existence, he may just shatter the beauty. In the
  • 6. Romeo And Juliet And West Side Story Analysis West Side Story was based on the classic story of Romeo and Juliet. This story was originally written in the 3rd Century and then re written by William Shakespeare in 1594. Shakespeare s version was based on a poem written by Arthur Brooks in 1562. The story of Romeo and Juliet is a love story/ tragedy about two families: Capulet and Montague. Both families hate each other which leads to Romeo and Juliet knowing that they cannot be married, even though they are in love. They then try to arrange a secret wedding but Tybalt (Juliet s cousin) and Mercutio (Romeo s close friend) get into a fight in which, Romeo gets in the middle of and kills Tybalt. The Jets are an American group of boys led by Riff. The story goes that the two rival groups (The Jets and the The Sharks) can not coexist together. Former Jet and Riff s best friend, Tony and Bernards younger Sister, Maria meet at a dance and instantly fall in love but know that they cannot be together. They begin meeting in secret and plan to run away together. The Jets and Sharks plan a rumble and whoever wins will gain control over the streets. • 7. The Pros and Cons of Nationalism Essay example Nationalism at its core is the support of a country. The goal of a country is to have some sort of resonance within the individuals that reside there that call themselves citizens. If the citizens don t feel any connection with their country, they may move to find one that they feel closer too. Once found, they may support the country over others, defend it within conversations of politics or just find groups that have the same ideals they do about the country. Great evidence of this is in Germany s history. Although repeated quite often as an example of radical nationalism, this doesn t remove it from being a true and sad example of nationalism in its worst form. The central leaders of Germany including Hitler instituted anti Jew laws and once they were certain that the public agreed with these, or at least didn t disagree, started implementing much more extreme laws against the Jewish people. This created one of the worst genocides in the history of mankind. (Krome, 2010) What Hitler did, was take the dislike of Jews that the Muslims helped establish (Maghen, 2009) (Jeffrey, n.d.) , along with Christianity that the Jews were a problem (Callahan, 2004). Having these to point to, he directed an entire nation to become his Aryan race, and Jews weren t alone. Blacks and all other races and religions or creeds were included in the category of being removed, but it was largely the Jewish population affected. In short, nationalism is both good and bad. It seems to block rational behavior and logical thinking to be replaced by radical support for a cause. When it s functioning well, it allows the citizens of a country to unite with each other and share a common interest. Unfortunately this is hard to govern, and it seems to be directed by government bodies and religion. Radical support can go either way, for or against any topic. Middle ground isn t something

The Sarbanes Oxley Act ( Sox ) Essay According to Pompper (2014), incidents of high profile deception over the past four decades have threatened the reputation of the ... accounting function (p. 131). For instance, an investigation was conducted into the financial audit and reporting process after the savings and loan banking crisis in the 1980s (Pompper, 2014). In addition, the criminal convictions of executives and bankruptcies of Fortune 500 companies such as Enron and WorldCom in the turn of the century motivated Congress to pass the Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX) in 2002 to strengthen regulations within the accounting profession (Whittington Pany, 2014). As a result, the SOX introduced provisions that changed the accounting function, such as the establishment of the Public CompanyAccounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and other major elements; however, the SOX regulations subsequently resulted in consequences to its compliance. In the United States, the 1934 establishment of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) ensures that reliable and complete financial information is available to investors (Hoyle, Schaefer, Doupnik, 2013). Since its formation, the SEC has administrated rules and regulations created by a number of different congressional actions (Hoyle et al., 2013, p. 552). That is, in essence, what it would be like to live in the mind of John Nash. A Beautiful Mind, directed by Ron Howard and originally based on a biography by Sylvia Nasar, tells the story of John Forbes Nash Jr., a Nobel Peace Prize winner and a recognized American mathematician with schizophrenia. The main ethical dilemma, which isn t introduced until the latter part of the movie, concerns Nash discontinuing his medication. If he discontinues his medications, his illusions will come back. The dilemma is whether it is ethically acceptable to let Nash discontinue his medication and continue to live at home or whether he should be hospitalized. The ethical dilemma presented in the movie impacts the characters in various ways, and the methods used to solve the dilemma exposes ethical principles that are being abused and, oppositely, positive principles used by the characters that are attempting to help Nash. The declining health due to a poor diet in America is one problem that is recently receiving more attention, as it should. However, a major factor is being overlooked. Excessive amounts of additives placed in foodis a problem. These additives are causing numerous healthproblems that are literally killing us. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just like it is easy and quick to buy and consume preserved foods, it easier to make them this way. By adding preservatives, producers are able to lengthen the amount of time that they are still considered safe to eat. They are also used to add coloring, flavoring, and vitamins or minerals that the food would otherwise be lacking. There are two types of additives, natural and unnatural. Natural additives are items such as salt, sugar, and vinegar. Unnatural additives are monosodium glutamate (a food enhancer), benzoic acid (a preservative used in fruit juices), and food stabilizers such as gums and waxes (H.S. Jeon). In addition to these, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is allowing about 3,000 more additives such as these in our food. Excessive amounts of additives in our food is a problem that is not receiving enough attention from the government. Companies also seem unconcerned with the problem because they are able to make large amounts of money by selling items in larger packs. The shelf life of food is extended due to the preservatives, which means it is cheaper for the consumer as well. Rather than having to buy food continuously because it spoils, families are now able to buy food that will last for long amounts of time, which means they will have to buy less. Some argue that preservatives in our food is not as big of a problem as we are making it to be. To provide some information on the

This quote is another example of how cruel Claudio was to Hero at their wedding day, which was supposed to be a happy event. Claudio shows how malicious he can be by leaving her at the altar, in front of all her friends and family, publically shaming her in the process. It also shows how he tends to think the worst of those around him and his need to get even. This need to humiliate her shows he is really only considered with himself and his happiness. Claudio finally grows to maturity when he takes responsibility for Hero s death and graciously complies to do whatever Leonato asks as punishment. After Hero s death Claudio goes back to Leonato to apologize, I know not how to pray for your patience, Yet I must speak. Choose your revenge yourself; Impose me to what penance your intervention. Can lay upon my sin. Yet sinned I not but in mistaking (88 89.) This apology by Claudio shows a lot of courage and humility, both signs of maturity. It is always hard to admit doing something wrong, especially if what was done has affected someone else. This act shows a lot of courage on Claudio s part because the punishment could have been very severe, seeing as Leonato is governor of Messina. He apologizes because even though he was hurt by Hero s supposed betrayal,
  • 30. Regulate Use of Cell Phones on the Road When a cell phone goes off in a classroom or at a concert, people are irritated, but at least lives are not endangered. When on the road, however, irresponsible cell phone users are more than irritating: They are putting our lives at risk. Many of us have witnessed drivers so distracted by dialing and chatting that they resemble drunk drivers, weaving between lanes, for example, or nearly running down pedestrians in crosswalks. A number of bills to regulate use of cell phones on the road have been introduced in state legislatures, and the time has come to push for their passage. Regulation is needed because drivers using phones are seriously impaired and because laws on negligent and reckless driving are not sufficient to punish offenders... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The latter statistic is interesting, for it suggests that those who carry phones in their cars may tend to be more negligent or prone to distractions of all kinds than those who do not. Some groups have argued that state traffic laws make legislation regulating cell phone use unnecessary. Sadly, this is not true. Laws on traffic safety vary from state to state, and drivers distracted by cell phones can get off with light punishment even when they cause fatal accidents. Although the midshipman mentioned earlier was charged with vehicular manslaughter for the deaths of John and Carole Hall, the judge was unable to issue a verdict of guilty. Under Maryland law, he could only find the defendant guilty of negligent driving and impose a $500 fine (Layton C1). Such a light sentence is not unusual. The driver who killed Morgan Pena in Pennsylvania received two tickets and a $50 fine and retained his driving privileges (Pena). In Georgia, a young woman distracted by her phone ran down and killed a two year old; her sentence was ninety days in boot camp and five hundred hours of community service (Ippolito J1). The families of the victims are understandably distressed by laws that lead to such light sentences. When certain kinds of driver behavior are shown to be especially dangerous, we wisely draft special laws making them illegal and imposing specific punishments. Running red lights, failing to stop for a school bus, and drunk driving are obvious

For change to be successful management must develop political support. This support is necessary because to initiate change management must have political power within the organization and outside of the organization. This power is often necessary to ensure a smooth transition during the development process (Authenticity Consulting, 2011). Organizational development of a business may appear to be an extensive and complicated process; however, given the right conditions the change can be almost seamless. To have successful change a crucial component is communication. Another condition that would assist with successful organizational development is preparing and conditioning employees for change. This is an area where communication is pertinent. A business that has effective communication with employees with clients and with stakeholders will have an easier transition. It is important for employees to understand the changes taking place, why the changes are taking place and the role he or she has in the transition. Aside from communication, another crucial component necessary to ensure change is support. Without support, change would be impossible. Support from management is especially important because

When the flood from the damaged levies reaches Zeitoun s neighborhood, Eggers demonizes the floodwater, describing it as almost animalistic using verbs such as swallowed and crawled when referencing the water flooding the property. Women, on average, obtain less than men in essentially every occupation for which an earning ratio is a component. The gender pay gap in America is unjust and sexist. Women are not inferior to men, especially in the workplace. As a strong, ever changing society women should no longer have to deal with any discriminatory attitudes against gender, race, or religion. One significant discrimination problem the world population is fighting, takes place in the workplace. Women, who are as equally trained and educated, and with the same experience as men are not getting the equal pay they deserve. The gender pay gap is the average difference between a man and a womans remuneration. There are two distinct numbers regarding the pay gap: unadjusted versus adjusted pay gap, which takes into account differences in hours worked, careers chosen, education, and job experience. The gap has narrowed since the 1970s, due largely to women s progress in education and workforce participation and to men s wages rising at a slower rate. Still, the pay gap does not appear likely to disappear on its own. At the rate of change between 1960 and 2016, women are expected to reach pay equality with men in 2059. But, even that slow progress has stalled in recent years. If change continues at the slower rate seen since 2001, women will not

Most superheroes are similar but there s one that is very different from the rest and her name is Wonder Woman. She fights evil while still being a Woman making her the ultimate hero for any young girl to look up to. Although he didn t picture a woman in his role of a less masculine superman, the idea of Wonder Woman was first originally created in 1941 by William Moulton Marston. She was used to be seen as a World War II hero and warrior by having the strength and power of a man but the grace and beauty of a lady. Wonder Woman fears nothing. She stands for justice, equality, and America. (Arnold Forster). Since She was built off of honesty and feminism she carries a whip that stands for the truth and uses it against her enemies leaving her to be the ultimate hero. Wonder Woman has many hero like qualities that make her such an amazing leader. The very first quality she possesses is her ambition. Her ambitious actions influence her ways of looking and acting like a hero. The second major quality Wonder Woman holds is her nobility, because she is selfless and strives to save the lives of anyone and everyone. Not only is she good at what she does but she also has a great passion for it. She always strives to be better and loves the help she gives. The morals of Wonder Woman are set extremely high making her an outstanding influence for all people. Her independence and intelligence allows her to take risks and be confident in her actions. The last quality Wonder Woman possesses is one of the most important which is her ability to see those for who they really are, because it is incredibly easy for her to not only spot her allies but to see her enemies as well. It is these qualities, among others, that prove Wonder Woman is a worthy opponent as well as a great role model for younger generations. (Callender). Because Wonder Woman is a female she is bound to face challenges that most heroes do not. Taking on a role of a hero is usually seen as a man s place because most heroes are males so naturally it is going to be more challenging for Wonder Woman to

These problems can become one of the greatest strengths of the new computer however, if it is possible to program the outcomes in such a way so that undesirable effects cancel themselves out while the positive ones reinforce each other. This quantum system must be able to program the equation into it, verify its computation, and extract the results. Several possible systems have been looked at by researchers, one of which involves using electrons, atoms, or ions trapped inside of magnetic fields, intersecting lasers would then be used to excite the confined particles to the right wavelength and a second time to restore the particles to their ground state. A sequence of pulses could be used to array the particles into a pattern usable in our system of equations. Another possibility by Seth Lloyd of MIT proposed using organic metallic polymers (one dimensional molecules made of repeating atoms). The energy states of a given atom would be determined by its interaction with neighboring atoms in the chain. Laser pulses

The killer would follow the women home, rape them, slash their throats, and then mutilate their sexual organs. The sixth victim was found with her breasts, hands, and ears cut off. It was the resemblance between the savage destruction of the Baiyin victims bodies and those of the women killed by London s infamous Jack the Ripper that led the police to nickname their killer the Chinese Jack the Ripper. Baiyin police were at a loss as to who raped, killed, and mutilated the local women. They collected enough fingerprints and semen from the crime scenes to tie the 11 murders together, but they could not match the DNA evidence to anyone registered as living in Baiyin. And that is exactly how Gao managed to stay free for 28 years. Gao was registered in Qingcheng and never registered himself in Baiyin. In 2004, the authorities offered a 200,000 yuan reward ($30,000) for information leading to the arrest of the killer. Despite the generous offer, no leads ever materialized, and the case went

Leonardo Da Vinci I.Brief Biography A.Childhood Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452, in a farmhouse nestled amid the rolling hills of Tuscany outside the village of Anchiano in modern Italy. Born out of wedlock to respected Florentine notary Ser Piero and a young peasant woman named Caterina, he was raised by his father and his stepmothers. Little is known about Leonardo s early life. He spent his first five years in the hamlet of Anchiano in the home of his mother, then from 1457 he lived in the household of his father, grandparents and uncle, Francesco, in the small town of Vinci. Leonardo grew up on his father s family s estate, where he was treated as a legitimate son and received the usual elementary education of that day: reading, writing, and arithmetic. Leonardo did not seriously study... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Lady with an Ermine The Lady with an Ermine was relatively a unique painting during the fourteenth century. This was because of its introduction to oil paint, which was still new in Italy. The painting was made around 1470. The painting is a portrait of Cecilia Gallerani, who was the mistress of Ludovico Sforza. The painting depicts a young woman in simple clothing during those times holding ermine or a stoat. The woman can be seen not looking directly at the painter but rather looking in the distance as if she were looking at someone else. The ermine was a symbol of purity and was used by this portrait to imply the purity and innocence of Cecilia. 4.St. John the Baptist Considered one of the most unsettling paintings found in the Louvre, the St. John the Baptist painting exudes a level of depth and mystery because of the simplicity and almost one tonal color of painting. The use of the art technic sfumato magnifies the ambiguity the painting is trying to convey. Another interesting fact about this painting is that he used his apprentice Salai as his model. Salai was one of his most favorite apprentices and friends. Salai served da Vinci until Leonardo

The Effects Of Multitasking On College Students While the consequences for teens who multitask during school time are severe, Luke 3 multitasking also results in an excessive amount of wasted time. It takes several tenths of a second for the cerebral cortex to switch from one task to another, and those tenths are what cause teens problems (Kuchinas, Why MultitaskingIsn t Efficient ). The timeit takes to switch tasks decreases focus, which makes teens slower in their activity ( Keim, Is Multitasking Bad For Us?). An experiment conducted by Isenburg placed 89 college students in three different groups, assigning them to read a psychology text. One group received instant messages before reading, one group received them after, and one group received no instant messages while reading. The results of the procedure revealed that the groups which read the instant messages took considerably longer to read the text than those who didn t receive messages (46, 47).... Speed is the modern, natural high, asserts Dr. Edward Hallowell (Kuchinas, Why Multitasking Isn t Efficient ). With teens wanting to constantly change interests, social media devices are extremely popular. This atmosphere can become problematic in the real world, since there are many times when teens will have to focus on one activity. As PhD David Meyer states, Doing several tasks simultaneously may seem like the height of efficiency and it would be, if a person had more than one brain. In the real world, multitasking actually wastes time and reduces work quality ( Why Multitasking Isn t Efficient ) The

The Structure of Biblical Authority In his book, Structure of Biblical Authority, Meredith Kline explains, describes, and defends the suzerain vassal paradigm of the biblical covenant and canon of Scripture. Scripture s authority, according to Kline is not merely related to its ontology (that God has spoken it); but in its basic economic form, Scripture is a covenantal document and therefore is authoritative. It is through this covenant that God binds himself to his covenant people and they to him. As our covenant suzerain, God sovereignly rules his vassals with covenant stipulations. Part One In chapter one, Formal Origins of Biblical Canon, Kline shows how the origin of the Old Testament canon, coincided with the founding of Israel at the establishment of the covenant at ... Jesus summary of the law into two commands was not to distinguish to separable areas of life, but two complementary aspects of our responsibility. In chapter two, Dynastic Covenant, Kline answers several errant views of the nature and meaning of Deuteronomy. Kline shows that the basic structure of the book is actually covenantal: preamble (1:1 5), prologue (1:6 4:49), stipulations (5 26), curses and blessings (27 30), and succession arrangements (31 34). The intrusion is Kline s address chapter three, The Intrusion and the Decalogue. Due to the Fall, we must await the consummation during which even creation groans and travails in birth pains. Yet there is an intrusion of the is consummation which breaks through beforehand. This is easily seen in Christ and the Spirit in the New Testament, but what about the Old? This intrusion has realized eschatology at its very core, in its symbolism we may see the already not yet . There is in the Old Testament an anticipation of the ethics of the world to come. Understanding this will aid in keeping us from assuming God s prerogative to abrogate the principle of common grace. Kline discusses how this intrusion can be properly seen in the ethics of the
