Allegories In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
In 1923, psychologist Sigmund Freud revolutionized his field with his model of the human
psyche. According to his model, the mind is divided into three aspects: the id, ego, and
superego. William Golding s allegorical novel, Lord of the Flies, employs these three aspects of
the psyche through intricate characterization representing the concepts of id, ego, and superego.
Lord of the Flies tells the story of a group of young British boys who are stranded on an island in
the South Pacific. They become trapped when their plane is shot down while trying to escape their
country during World War II. A choirboy named Jack is shown as the leader of the savages and
encourages them to embrace their barbarity. As the novel progresses, the inner evil... Show more

This further demonstrates Jack s parallels to the concept of ID, thus allowing Golding to emphasize
the psychological allegory of the novel.
Jack s desire to kill is not the only detail that Golding utilizes to compare him to the ID .
Throughout the entirety of the story, Jack is apathetic towards the heinous actions of the boys.
After Piggy s death at the hands of Jack s sadistic henchman, Roger, Jack shows no remorse
towards the abominable action that had just occurred: Suddenly Jack bounded out from the tribe
and began screaming wildly. See? See? That s what you ll get! I meant that! There isn t a tribe for
you anymore! (Golding 181). Jack s refusal to acknowledge the reality of the situation
demonstrates his disregard for the logic and reason. Moreover, as the ID, he only acts on his
instinctual, animalistic impulses; he is fully lethargic towards the rational side of the mind.
Furthermore, Golding implements this specific dialogue to convey Jack s connection to the ID,
employing this detail to additionally portray Jack s primitive inclinations. Here, Jack is acting
instinctually and to satisfy his own lust for malice. Thus, the psychological allegory is continually
emphasized through Jack s recurring similarities to the ID.
Acting with no regard to possible repercussions is a key characteristic of the ID. In Lord of the
Flies, Jack continually ignores the probable aftermath of his actions in order to satisfy his needs at

Impact Of The Gilded Age
Stemming from the end of the Civil War, the age of Reconstruction boomed. Some industries were
starting to populate prior to and during the War, such as the iron industry and the California Gold
Rush. However, the idea of Big Businesses and their large impact on America was greatly noticed
in the years to come called the Gilded Age, coined by Mark Twain as America started to gleam
with gold. The start of such growth in American happened as businesses wanted to expand and
workers began discovering new crops and demand for them increased. Farming so many crops
quickly became more of a hindrance and required more hands to help harvest the crop. Then, as
more crops grew, so did the demand, and the natural human pace no longer sufficed for harvesting.
Such demand required better technology and faster transport on top of more workers to lend a
hand. As technology also boomed during this era, it helped fuel the industries capability to flourish
beyond belief. Industrialization grew like no one thought it could bring in a thriving economy,
expanding cities, and with such growth a challenging workforce. Beginning with an expanding
economy, many individuals like Andrew Carnegie and his steel industry lead the way into the
Gilded Age. So much, that near the end of the century, America was completely dominated by
successful businessmen; John Rockefeller and J.P. Morgan also became common household names.
As the businesses grew, more job opportunities were available to citizens.

How Architects Change The World
How Architects Change the World
To provide meaningful architecture is not to parody history, but to articulate it. Daniel Libeskind
Mankind has built structures since the beginning of time and every structure which has been built
throughout history has a story behind it. The reasons for building these structures are many and
varied. The main reason for building a structure is out of necessity. Buildings such as the aqueducts
of Rome, Windsor Castle of Medieval Europe, and the Golden Gate Bridge, were built out of
necessity. Another reason for building a structure is an artistic expression or to express a sentiment,
such as the Statue of Liberty, the Gateway Arch, or the Eiffel Tower
. A third reason for building a
structure is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without architects, none of us would be living in houses, none of us would have schools to go to,
and none of us would have bridges to cross water. One good example of a structure being built out
of necessity is the golden gate bridge.
The Golden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is a suspension bridge 4,200 feet long spanning the San
Francisco Bay. It opened in 1937 and was the longest suspension bridge in the world until 1964.
Joseph Strauss was the head engineer for the bridge, but it was ultimately designed by Leon
Moisseiff, who was also the championed designer of the Manhattan Bridge. The bridge cost over
35 million dollars and from it s opening through January 2014, over two billion vehicles have
crossed the bridge. The color of the Bridge is officially international orange picked by architect
Irving Morrow because it complements the natural scenery, and this orange makes this bridge one
of the most recognized bridge in the world.
In addition to being one of the most recognized bridge in the world, today the Golden Gate
Bridge is one of the most photographed and the most driven over bridge in the world. It s lasting
impact is not only it s usefulness but also the aesthetic appeal it adds to the California landscape
as well as an object of pride for Californians.
The Roman Aqueducts
Another architectural feat that was completed out of necessity was the Roman Aqueducts.

How Does Social Media Affect Social Activism
Slacktivism a term used to define actions performed through the internet regarding little to no
actual involvement. With this in mind many believe that social networks encourage people to
not be so motivated to go out and do something for a change. Malcolm Gladwell wrote an article
called Small Change: Why The Revolution Won t Be Tweeted? discussing the influence that
social media has on activism. He begins with expressing the waves of activism in the 1960 s,
which is completely different to present time. He expresses modern time movements as the
lamest way of activism. However, many others can argue that social media redefines activism.
How does social media affect social activism? The ability of social networks by bringing people
together should not be underestimated as it changes public awareness, up brings immediate
urgency, and creates social connections. Initially through social media, information is spread in a
matter that changes public awareness. Sometimes people are unaware of certain situations that
are happening in the world, so sharing them online is their way of bringing attention to it. In
response to Gladwell s claim, Pamela Rutledge writes an article called Four Ways Social Media Is
Redefining Activism claiming that social media in fact redefines activism in four ways. One of the
many reasons of refinement is that it changes public awareness. Rutledge gives the example of a
Haitian earthquake by saying, While many people were moved to text in

Analyzing The Character Magnus Chase
For my January book project letter the character I m going to pick is Magnus Chase. I picked
Magnus because he dreams for a lot of things like he wishes he could keep everyone in the world
safe from harm, and for villains to stop doing villainy things. So during this time I m going to
talk about my dream for Magnus. My character Magnus Chase would dream for peace throughout
the world. He wants to make sure that no one gets hurt. One of the major reasons this is, is because
when Magnus was seven years old his mom died. Magnus s mom didn t die of old age or a diseases
or anything like that she died from wolves. And not just any ordinary wolves she died by Fenris s
wolves. Fenris is one of Loki s sons who got turned into a wolf by the gods as

Suv And Crossover Vehicles Of Cars
SUV and Crossover vehicles are starting to take over the US car market. 2016 is the year of the
SUV and pickup truck. Each month the car sales share of the market slips a bit (NPR, 2016). This
means that sales of your average car are starting to slip. If you pay attention while driving down the
road you may notice this. I believe there are several reasons why this is starting to be the case.
SUVs and Crossover vehicles sit higher than an average commuter or luxury car. They tend to have
more space inside for passengers and cargo. They are starting to rival the fuel economy of cars.
Four wheel drive is a feature available to all of them. Now before I get started I said SUVs and
Crossovers. While these two types of vehicles are broadly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is especially true if a person has to commute long distances to work. A new study by
TrueCar.com finds tooling around in a small SUV is no longer that wasteful. The sales weighted
fuel economy average is only 2 miles per gallon apart (26.83 mpg SUV vs. 28.84 mpg sedan)
SUV owners typically will pay only another $3 more tankful to fill up their SUV compared to a
sedan. (USA Today, 2015). Granted those numbers are for a Crossover, However manufactures
like Nissan and RAM Trucks are starting to place small diesel engines in half ton trucks in order
to gain fuel economy without sacrificing payload capability. RAM is claiming to make up to 29
MPG with their small diesel (I was not able to find fuel economy numbers for the Nissan
engine). So it is likely fair to assume that it is only a matter of time before traditional SUVs get
engines of that type. Height is also an apparent factor in the purchase of these vehicles. People
reportedly like the fact that they sit higher than an average car. It gives people the feeling that they
have command of the road . As someone that drives a full size truck I can confirm that being able to
see over the car(s) in front of you does give you a certain commanding feeling. Driving a low
sitting sedan just feels like you are dragging your backside across the pavement. However I think
there may be more to the height factor.

Parking Spaces At The New Livermore Bart Station
Parking Statistics
Introduction
A parking structure is being built for the new Livermore BART station. The Livermore
Department of Transportation would like to provide as many parking spaces as possible in the
parking structure. This study will determine an ideal parking space size in order to maximize the
amount of available spaces while still accommodating an appropriate range of car sizes.
Methods
We located a sample pool of automobiles that accurately reflected the socio economic demographic
of the Livermore area to determine the type of cars owned in the community. From this sample we
determined the range in car sizes that would be parking in the new parking structure. We measured
a sample of the automobile s lengths and widths to determine the mean and deviation of the
vehicles the new parking structure would need to accommodate. We determined the seven parking
lots of Las Positas College was an accurate and large enough representation of the demographic
that would be utilizing the Livermore BART station parking structure. Different student
demographics use different parking lots on campus. The trucks and bigger vehicles driven by the
firefighting students, veterans and welding students parked in the lots closer to their buildings.
For this reason, we found it necessary to take sample measurements from all seven parking lots at
the Las Positas College campus so that we would have an accurate sample of the lifestyles
reflected by car sizes that would be using the

Paul Lawrence Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivation
Paul Lawrence
Paul Lawrence theory explains about the human nature and it describes about the four factors that
will affect the human nature and these factors are bond ,acquire, learn and defend. These factors
also called drives but the question is this what drives an individual.Every individual has several
drives but all drives cannot be satisfied at a time.
The first drive is acquire, and it describes how a human improve his status by acquiring
experiences and it is very common. It describes how human compete with others in his life like
employees of the same company have competitions with other employees for different positions and
salary.
Next is bonding,as it is very important in making relationships .The bond is considered to be strong
as it will make by mutual understanding and sharing.Employees working in a group have the
advantage of managing the organization in a better way.
The third factor is drive to learn and it describes that if a human has willingness of learning the
things in the environment then he will come to know that how things are working .If he has a job
then he has the opportunity of developing his knowledge in his field.
The fourth factor is defend,it describes how humans protect themselves if they feel any harm on
their believes and experiences
Motivation concepts
Its necessary to know about what motivates an individual. There are two concepts for this intrinsic
and extrinsic motivation. The purpose is to know about what factors motivates an

Causes Of Dropouts In The UAE
Should I really drop out? he sadly said I think have no other choice, besides I cannot even afford
it In the recent years of UAE, a good amount of students are dropping out of universities. Why are
the classes getting empty? Where are the students leaving? Setting the education off the priorities
is something normal now in the UAE, but from a logical point of view it should not be normal. It
is safe to say that increase rate of dropouts can be added to the list of problems that UAE faces. For
instance, the American University of Sharjahonce showed that 30% of students drop out after the
freshmen year, and this is just one university out of many in the UAE. There are many different
causes behind this problem for sure. The most important... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Analysts polled by Reuters in 2014 showed that the average inflation in the UAE
would rise by 2.5 percent in 2014, 2.7 percent 2015, and expected to accelerate more in the
incoming years ( UAE Inflation, 2014, para. 2). In other words, inflation is striking in all over
UAE, and paying for tuition fees is becoming harder than ever. For example, the American
University of Sharjah office of registrar stated on the undergraduate catalog of 2010 2011 that
the tuition fee per semester is approximately 37,000 dhs whereas the tuition fee per semester of
2016 2017 is about 50,000 dhs. A probable reason why students are dropping out is they come
from a poor financial background, where the parents find some difficulties to pay the tuition fees,
or they have other expenses to commit to such as rents, debts, and regular consumptions.
Furthermore, a second reason could be the lack of earning scholarships or financial aids. In the
recent years, universities lean towards to be pickier in the admission of the scholarships; as a
result, students are forced to drop out as they rely fully on the scholarships. In my case, I had the
same problem and I was not able to maintain the scholarship. I was about to drop out, but thank god
I did

Persuasive Essay On Double Jeopardy
Forensic Technology is constantly evolving and advancing, this has meant many criminal cases
have been solved. However due to the current double jeopardy laws, criminals who have been
previously tried cannot be apprehended for their crimes. The current double jeopardy laws are one
of the leading factors as to why murders and other criminals are allowed to walk free. The double
jeopardylaws must be amended to ensure these criminals are properly punished for their crimes.
Double jeopardy is a defence to a prosecution for a crime, raising the claim that the accused is
being placed on trial for a second time for the same offence. No person may be twice put in

guilty this is clear in the case of Philip Leung. Mr Philip Leung has been put on trial three times
for the murder of his lover /partner. At his original trial in 2009, Mr Leung was acquitted of
murder after a judge directed the jury to find him not guilty. The Crown, however, used the
controversial amended double jeopardy laws, introduced in 2006, to have the verdict quashed.
Mr Leung then faced court on a manslaughter charge last April, but became the first person in
Australian legal history to be acquitted twice by a judge s directed verdict. However the NSW
Court of Criminal Appeal upheld a second appeal by the Crown and ordered that Mr Leung
again be tried for manslaughter ( ).One of the main if not the only reason this piece of legislation
is still in place, is to protect people from being abused by the legal system; but it is clear the laws

Master production scheduling (MPS) is a plan that has been developed by a company for

Shop floor scheduling prioritizes, schedules work, and communicates the progress of work
regarding the schedules and plans that have been made. Shop floor planning is necessary to ensure
that expected quantities are completed on time and that resources such as labor, materials,
machinery and equipment are used to best effect.
The production staffs viewed the adoption of SAP as an ERP system that focuses on function such

relevant to their business processes. The production staffs believed the functional view poorly
represents the interaction with other functional views.
The IT staffs were certain that the existing SAP software will provide all necessary computer

Marriage is the union of two people, traditionally husband and wife. Traditional also are the roles
that women play when confined in a marriage. When a woman has had the opportunity to educate
herself pass tradition and has been use to a fast paced modern lifestyle, this role of the wife might
prove to be quite onerous to mold to. Usually a time of joy, celebration, and adulation, marriage

Being strong and independent women no longer matters as the men that they will call their
husbands enter their lives. Lesego and Kegoletile both represent the male figures and the change
that Life and Neo must endure as they conquer marriage. Lesego represents the authoritative male
that is respected by all the people of the rural village for his wealth and judgment. Life is attracted to
his power and control, but clearly underestimates them. It is with this man that Life decides to

His purpose is to marry Life and turn her into a proper village wife, one who does not throw loud

CONFLICT SYSTEM THEORY
What is Conflict?
Conflicts are generally defined as relational disputes between two or more parties, in which those
involved perceive a threat to their interests coming from those on the other side of the
disagreement. While this can describe a variety of conflict, it does not explain the full range of
possibilities with this term. There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We should also consider that when relationships are close and intense, triangles can form and
bring in another person to hold the low power position. Triangles can begin to interlock as more
and more people become involved and it can lead to destructive behavior (Wilmot and Hocker,
2007). If we consider the new parents from the previous paragraph, the father may confide in his
mother which brings in a third party. She may confide in her husband or friend, and that person
may confide in another person.
Just as people develop individual characteristics, an entire system can also develop its own
characteristics (Wilmot and Hocker, 2007). In the systems theoryanalyses attention should be
focused on the relationships instead of the individual characteristics. The conflict and the way the
parties act within it can be different depending on the relational type of the individuals involved. A
complete assessment of a conflict can help the parties bring in new rules, understand and
acknowledge micro events, and have difficult conversations.
Rules used in the context of a conflict means the underlying communication structure of the
interaction (Wilmot and Hocker, 2007). Generally no one person makes the rules. If the new
parents know each other s backgrounds well, they will know what is and is not acceptable to say
during an argument (whether or not they follow

How Accurate Was the Term Era of Good Feelings in the...
In the 1800 s following the war of 1812, the term commonly applied to that era in the United States
was known as the era of good feelings . While the United States was growing in several different
aspects, such as politically, socially and economically, and changing as a country, there are several
key factors that denote this term, and nullify its meaning. While the changes were significant, and
the United Statesevolved at an exponential rate after the war of 1812, the accuracy of the term era
of good feelings is way off, and the United States was anything but experiencing an era of good
feelings .
Following the war of 1812, growth occurred primarily economically, politically, and socially for the
United States. These changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this was increase throughout the United States, this economical situation occurred
primarily in the North, and much less in the south. In the south, the economic increase was much
different. Because of the large amounts of plantations and farms in the south, new land was needed
so that the crops that had dried up the soil could continue to grow and the economy can continue to
benefit. This growth in land and economy indicates that the economic benefit in the south came
from crops and agricultural might, rather than industrial. These differences help identify that the era
of good feelings and the nationalism that is implied is incorrect and inaccurate, as people have
more of a connection towards the land that they make their money on, which implies sectionalism.
Politically, the era of good feelings was extremely off. Even before the war of 1812, there had
always been a major difference in the political parties and systems of the government. A major
difference in this coming from extremely opposing ideologies of the parties and the lack of unity
between the two. The difference between the parties is also present in Document C, which shows
two different party tents during the fourth of july. Whilst the people are generally happy, the party
tents show that the difference is quite evident, and

In Cold Blood Book Review
If one is interested in reading a disturbingly detailed and factually based novel that chronicles the
course and motives of complex crime, read Truman Capote s In Cold Blood: A True Account of a
Multiple Murder and Its Consequences. If one scares easily, is squeamish or wants to avoid
imagining a remorseless, brutal killer around every corner, do not.
In his 1965 nonfiction novel, Capote paints a disturbingly vivid picture of the quadruple murder of
the Clutters, a highly regarded and semi wealthy farming family from Holcomb, Kansas. In Cold
Blood examines the incentives and methods used by the killers, as well as the effect these murders
had on the small Kansas town.

Throughout In Cold Blood, Capote illustrates several journalistic characteristics, one of which

no motives or suspects fit the case.
Additionally, when the killers were caught, their indifference towards the crime varied drastically
from what one would expect.

Essay On The Great Purges
The great Purges saw One third of the communist party killed throughout a period of terror,
which lasted from 1934 39, With Kirov being the final victim himself. On top of this many
ordinary civilians alongside Party members ere also exiled and imprisoned in gulags. Some
Historians believe that the purges were a series of distinct events that related to the purges. Whilst
others believe that the crimes were entwined. However the cause of the terror is the topic that
holds more debate. Some historians whom take a totalitarian view such as McCauley suggest that
it was Stalin s personality along side his progressive paranoia which played the key role and was
responsible for the extent of the Great Purges in the 1930s.Whilst the some historians... Show more

The silence of not only Stalin but the whole of the Soviet Union highlights how to the communist
party this appeared to be traitorous against the fundamental ideals of socialism. This is
emphasised by McCauley as to a cause of why Stalin s Paranoia continued throughout his
leadership, and his personality therefore was responsible for the extent in regards to the terror.
McCauley further emphasises Stalin s intention of creating a climate of fear as a result of this
growing paranoia. This is evident in McCauley s emphasis on the idea that there was set targets
in regards to the number of people that had to denounced in any given period. This reiterates the
idea that Stalin wished to scare the population and work forces in his party into submission.

An anarchist is seen as someone whose aim is to overturn any form of government or law
system conversely creating a system free state (1). Although their main aim was to create a

commonly used to abolish government authority. Anarchist had a strong belief, that all humans
wanted to live in a state of harmony and peace, where law and government was not forced upon

In the past decades, the demand for electronic devices and appliances has been in demand in many
nations. That is due to the ever changing technology that has led to the replacement of the old
electrical and technological devices. Nonetheless, with the advancement in technology, individual
needs across the globe have also changed. The modern technological devices have to a great extent
simplified life where most of the activities that were manually done in the past are now done using
technologically advanced machines. That has significantly improved the quality of the output.
Moreover, the production process has been made more efficient. For instance, accounting tasks in
almost all offices across the globe have embraced the use of computers. That has not only
simplified the work done by the accountants but also increased the accuracy (Andritzky, 2007). The
demand for these devices has given business opportunities to many investors who seek to provide

Fools Crow Analysis
The novel, Fools Crow, was written by James Welch as a Native American narrative set in 1870.
It followed the evolution of White Man s Dog, later known as Fools Crow, an adolescent Pikunis
Blackfeet Indian from the band Lone Eaters, who yearned to become wealthy and honored. An
opportunity to attain the respect he desired emerged when Fast Horse and Yellow Kidney
invited him along to a horse raid against the Crow despite his reputation for misfortune. While on
their journey to Crow camp, Fast Horse disclosed a dream where Cold Maker instructed him to
clear their water source and bring him two bull robes for his daughters in exchange for a
successful invasion. White Man s Dog also had a recurring dream of women sleeping in a lodge,
who awoke with lust in their eyes, but it ended as he moved toward them. He was uncertain of
the meaning though he knew that there was danger in that direction (pg. 18), and he chose to
withhold its possible significance from his fellow warriors. White Man s Dog was chosen to
lead the capturing of horses, and kills a Crow guard who detected the warriors. The group
believed Yellow Kidney was killed so they returned home, and White Man s Dog was praised for
his role, but Fast Horse became isolated as dreams suggested an unfinished duty to Cold Maker.
Yellow Kidney returned missing several fingers and explained his experience in captivity after he
was found taking refuge in a lodge. White Man s Dog recognized the encounter with his earlier

Howard Zinn s Slavery Without Submission
Slavery is a system where an individual can buy or own another person as property. The slave is
at the mercy of their master and is free to be bought, sold, or traded by their master. The United
States first adopted a policy of slavery in the middle of the 17th century. Before American slavery
became solely race based, there were indentured servants. These people worked on farms or
government projects until they had paid off their debts.
Eventually this practice evolved into the race based slavery that is familiar today. African slaves
imported from Africa were cheaper than indentured servants, and they had little to no voice in their
treatment. Hence the first part of the title of Howard Zinn s book Slavery Without Submission .
The African people sent to America might have been slaves, but they never lost hope in their
eventual freedom. Hymns, protests, and spirituals, kept the freedom fervor alive in the ... Show

of slave resistance were created to combat their masters. Ulrich Phillips, a major historian of the
South, described numerous ways as to which slaves might protest. These included truancy, protests,
and to simply not work as hard . Men such as David Walker and Frederick Douglass felt that slaves
were entitled to their freedom and should in turn fight for their rights.
During the Civil War, the frequency and audacity of African slave revolts increased. For
instance, in 1841 a slave ship was overpowered by its slave cargo and then sailed to the British
West Indies. As the war progressed, Africans became willing to take part in more aggressive
protests. Slave spirituals and songs began to carry bolder messages. Such as the song O Canaan,

Case Study Of Barclays
3.6.2Barclays Case study
3.6.2.1Barclays: Historical Perspective on the British giant
Throughout the history of multinational banking, British banks have retained large market
shares in a variety of countries over long periods of time (Jones, 1990 and Wilkins, 1970). As
outlined at the initial stage of this dissertation, CSR as a concept appeared for the first time in
the 1950s (Bowen, 1953). On that basis, this sub section will focus on a historical perspective of
Barclays from the post war period onwards. The main banking strategies of the post war period
(1945 1980) emphasized geographical diversification. Barclays established branches overseas on
the grounds that British multinational manufacturers would need the dynamic assistance of British
banks in the post war world. By establishing foreign branches, Barclays signalled to its clients that
it was willing to guarantee all its global assets for local activities. Moreover, several banks
established development corporations, with the intention of providing credit facilities in developing

narrow product service offering. In Singapore it was offering investment banking services solely,

Although this act was a good idea, it was a deficient response to homelessness. Reason being the
main help by many welfare departments only applied to mothers and children. This meant that
families would most likely be split, with temporary accommodation being excluded for homeless
fathers, and single homeless people were rarely given any assistance (Robson and Poustie, 1996).
After the TV drama Cathy Come Home (1966) was released, pressure mounted for central
government intervention on homelessness and this bought along the establishment of Shelter
around the same time, which was a campaigning group for the homeless. It was recommended that
primary responsibility for the homeless should be transferred from local authority social services to
housing departments, by a number of official committees in the late 1960s and early 1970s(Robson
and Poustie, 1996). However, single individuals were not yet the focus, where on the other hand
most of the priority was on families with dependant children (Watson with Austerberry, 1986).
During the 1970 s, the 1977 Housing (Homeless Persons) Act was broad along. The main aims of
this were to clear up and strengthen local authority, meaning their duties towards the homeless in
terms of housing, and to effectively transfer all these responsibilities from local authority social
services to housing departments. Local authorities were now only obliged to give long term

described as trying to put someone in jail for allegedly checking too many books out of the

Essay about History of the Computer
History of the Computer
The first devices that resemble modern computers date to the mid 20th century (around 1940
1945), although the computer concept and various machines similar to computers existed earlier.
Early electronic computers were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several
hundred modern personal computers.[1] Modern computers are based on tiny integrated circuits
and are millions to billions of times more capable while occupying a fraction of the space.[2]
Today, simple computers may be made small enough to fit into a wristwatch and be powered from
a watch battery. Personal computers in various forms are icons of the Information Age and are

This effort was funded by ARPA (now DARPA), and the computer network that it produced was
called the ARPANET. The technologies that made the Arpanet possible spread and evolved. In time,
the network spread beyond academic and military institutions and became known as the Internet.
The emergence of networking involved a redefinition of the nature and boundaries of the computer.
Computer operating systems and applications were modified to include the ability to define and
access the resources of other computers on the network, such as peripheral devices, stored
information, and the like, as extensions of the resources of an individual computer. Initially these
facilities were available primarily to people working in high tech environments, but in the 1990s the
spread of applications like e mail and the World Wide Web, combined with the development of
cheap, fast networking technologies like Ethernet and ADSL saw computer networking become
almost ubiquitous. In fact, the number of computers that are networked is growing phenomenally.
A very large proportion of personal computers regularly connect to the Internet to communicate and
receive information. Wireless networking, often utilizing mobile phone networks, has meant
networking is becoming increasingly ubiquitous even in mobile computing environments.

Carl Sandburg And The American Dream
The American Dream is a well known concept and idea that many immigrants and Americans
strived for in order to become successful. Unlike most countries where rising from rags to riches
was highly uncommon and a hopeless dream, America was a place for people to work hard and
achieve their dreams. Carl Sandburg was a very influential poet who came from very humble
beginnings under immigrant parents who had moved to America. He believed in an ordered society
where people could strive and accomplish what they chose without being influenced by the majority
of the country. To achieve the American Dream
, Sandburg had to travel across the States, overcome
challenging experiences, such as searching for newspapers to work for, keeping a job, and dealing
with the death of his daughter Madeline. His AmericanDreamof becoming a successful poet,
journalist, and goal of leaving a lasting legacy only became reality after many years of hard work
and perseverance.
To begin, there are not many people who can say that their childhood started with joining the
army, later living on the streets, and working a variety of jobs. Due to these circumstances,
Sandburg had many goals and even more ideals he wished to share to the world. As a youth, he
lived a difficult life, as he quit school in 8th grade and was always busy working to help his family
by delivering milk, collecting ice, laying bricks, and more, before becoming a hobo in 1897 (Barr
1). Sandburg struggled to make money and had to work

Good Vs Evil By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Throughout the history of literature, there have been several different time periods and each has
a specific aspect that is focused on in works from that era. Usually, they all share this feature and
it can be identified in each, even if the works are written by different authors. They still will have
some kind of similar theme, and the era to be focused on is the age of romanticism. Where there
were several themes that were encompassed in these works, but the main theme was that of good
vs evil. This one theme acts as an umbrella for many others that fall underneath it. The theme of
good vs. evil is extremely prevalent within works from the Romanticism period such as The Scarlet
Letter, Young Goodman Brown, and even in modern day. Good vs Evil is one of the main themes
of the Scarlet Letter which was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, another esteemed author of the
time. This theme is very broad and can be specified, like for example the idea of society as a group
of sinners. In the scarlet letter, when the meteor shoots across the sky whilst Dimmesdale and
Hester, and Pearl are on the platform, the light from the meteor acts as a sort of focus light and
reveals the truth, the fact that they sinned. The scaffold lights up due to Dimmesdale, but
something else happens that is important. The wooden houses, with their jutting stories and quaint
gable peaks; the doorsteps and thresholds, with the early grass springing up about them; the garden
plots, black with freshly turned

Wyatt Earp s Tombstone
In many modern period piece movies, the screenwriters put extra effort in world building so that
the film s story can seem more real. One example of this kind of movie is 1993 s Tombstone.
Tombstone follows Wyatt Earp and his family in their struggle to peacefully live alongside a
violent gang called the Cowboys. Between periods of tense hostility and character growth, this
film gives viewers a wide and varied scope of how life was in 1881 Arizona. Opening the movie
is a newsreel style of narration which sets up how Arizona was in 1879. It began with the
explanation that silver based riches were being found and founded in the Arizona area through
mining for the gem and providing goods and services. Promise of this paradise prompted farmers,...

The lead woman in this movie comes into town with an acting troupe and says that her heaven is
room service and traveling around the world. This is a typical draw for Easterners to come to
the West as it was a wildly different place they did not need to cross an Ocean for. This woman,
Josie Marcus, also is seen as vile for being with a man for looks but not love. Calamity Jane ran
into similar issues with her persona as evidenced by this situation: Her masculine prowess,
symbolized by her aggressive movements, conventional male clothing, and gun were acceptable in
the ring, but not back stage (Russel 30). Even on the men s side where Wyatt Earpis seen as the
quintessential frontiersman as stated by Fabian, note the lean silhouette, eyes closed by the sun
yet sharp as a hawk, he s got the look of both predator and prey, there are men who show different
traits. Billy is a character who seems to be on the outskirts of society as he calls the Cowboys
his friends yet all they ever do is laugh at him. The reason for this may be revealed through later
revelations as he shows homosexual feelings for Fabian. This is shown through his words and tone
when speaking about him as well as how he reacts to Fabians death: quickly squeezing the dead
hand and running from the Cowboys. Public perception of homosexuality at the time was that it
was scientifically reviled. Peter Boag found in his report of this subject that, precisely at this time
so called experts began to classify unusual sexualities as medical issues. They lumped together
under the rubric sexual inversion a host of what they considered perversions, including what later
would be separately understood as homosexuality, transsexuality, and hermaphroditism. Together,
these themes show great detail into what gender roles were in 1881 Arizona and how strictly they

through using the 80 20 rule.
After my body s non acceptance of dairy and processed food (along with a whopping 65% of the

I have written this book to share with you the incredible health benefits, delicious healthy recipes
and the foundation of the diet of the paleolithic man and woman, of course.
Over the past 3 years, I wanted to know if the paleo diet was in fact healthy. Throughout this

and some REAL ah ha moments, backed up to date research that supports the delicious recipes of
this amazing evolutionary food.
What I share with you leaves me with NO DOUBT as to what diet we should ALL be eating today.
The Paleo diet is the diet that I live by using the 80 20 rule, 80% of the time I stick to this diet
with a 20% margin for straying outside, (this does happen), less often than it did initially, but it
does take any pressure away from diet failure.
Today I have NO health concerns and lead a healthy active life. I no longer ignore the effects that
processed food has had on my health and wellness. The undeniable evidence is,

Simple Man
The Life of a Simple Man was written by Emile Guillaumin, a former peasant going through
many changes in the 19th century Europe. He wrote about a peasant boy living in France just
fifty years before him. The book itself is based on Guillaumin s own experience being a peasant
in France. At the time the book was written which was about 1900s, he felt that the French
peasants were not being recognized in the extent contemporary literature was being produced.
Around this time, the industrialization of Europe was accelerating; there were many changes that
were occurring, including the mixing of cities with factories and the agriculture industry in rural
areas. This change gave Guillaumin the ability to write about a milestone about the differences in
people and their lively hoods. A milestone which consisted in seeing the changes of people s lives
as new work arose and new opportunities for what was thought of a better life. Guillaumin writes
an excellent inside into understanding how the nineteenth century French peasants lived. Here,
this essay is mainly focused on a couple of aspects regarding the book by Emile Guillaumin: The
Life of a Simple Man. The first is based on the MГ©tayers otherwise known as sharecroppers.
From what they were like,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By 1929, there were still about 200,000 MГ©tayers. One of these MГ©tayers was Emile
Guillaumin. Adaptation was one of the most interested aspect at this time because of what was
happening in the rest of Europe. Like what was said before, Europe was undergoing their own
industrial revolution which dramatically changed farming and other jobs that turned a job into a
chore. Not only did this happen, but with moderation in the mist, factories rose alongside of cities.
The idea was that many want to have a stable job so they moved to the city from farmland to be
able to have what seemed like an economic

Chillie Labrosse Analysis
The eighth story of Scott s Viger is titled Josephine Labrosse. From the outside, this story seems
to incite the most positive reaction. Victor s name is seemingly aptonymic in the sense that he
provides Viger, and so the family of three generations of women, with a complete familial unit.
The scheming of sending Josephine into the city recalls No. 68 Rue Alfred de Musset, but in
this case the union between Victor and Josephine is cause for celebration, until Scott addition
troubles the ending to the tale. The singing of C est dans la vill Bytown (75) is troubling
indirectly. Once provided with the lyrics this becomes all the more apparent. The lyrics of the
song are as follows: It is in the town of Bytown/Where the English resided/Where there are three
pretty girls (137). This begins the tension initiated by the song; the three pretty girls could be a
reference to the three generations of women in Josephine Labrosse. The song continues: Who are
perfect in beauty/The youngest is my mistress/My heart charmed her (138). The fact that the
song is an accurate reiteration of the story means that Josephine is the de facto mistress in the
song. The term mistress usually comes with a negative connotation; it implies the speaker s
possession. The word charmed is also a cause for concern, because it can also be read is a
troubling lens. Even more, where did this chorus (75) appear from? The fact that this illusory
chorus was prepared to sing the troubling song is

  • 3. Allegories In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies In 1923, psychologist Sigmund Freud revolutionized his field with his model of the human psyche. According to his model, the mind is divided into three aspects: the id, ego, and superego. William Golding s allegorical novel, Lord of the Flies, employs these three aspects of the psyche through intricate characterization representing the concepts of id, ego, and superego. Lord of the Flies tells the story of a group of young British boys who are stranded on an island in the South Pacific. They become trapped when their plane is shot down while trying to escape their country during World War II. A choirboy named Jack is shown as the leader of the savages and encourages them to embrace their barbarity. As the novel progresses, the inner evil... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This further demonstrates Jack s parallels to the concept of ID, thus allowing Golding to emphasize the psychological allegory of the novel. Jack s desire to kill is not the only detail that Golding utilizes to compare him to the ID . Throughout the entirety of the story, Jack is apathetic towards the heinous actions of the boys. After Piggy s death at the hands of Jack s sadistic henchman, Roger, Jack shows no remorse towards the abominable action that had just occurred: Suddenly Jack bounded out from the tribe and began screaming wildly. See? See? That s what you ll get! I meant that! There isn t a tribe for you anymore! (Golding 181). Jack s refusal to acknowledge the reality of the situation demonstrates his disregard for the logic and reason. Moreover, as the ID, he only acts on his instinctual, animalistic impulses; he is fully lethargic towards the rational side of the mind. Furthermore, Golding implements this specific dialogue to convey Jack s connection to the ID, employing this detail to additionally portray Jack s primitive inclinations. Here, Jack is acting instinctually and to satisfy his own lust for malice. Thus, the psychological allegory is continually emphasized through Jack s recurring similarities to the ID. Acting with no regard to possible repercussions is a key characteristic of the ID. In Lord of the Flies, Jack continually ignores the probable aftermath of his actions in order to satisfy his needs at that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Impact Of The Gilded Age Stemming from the end of the Civil War, the age of Reconstruction boomed. Some industries were starting to populate prior to and during the War, such as the iron industry and the California Gold Rush. However, the idea of Big Businesses and their large impact on America was greatly noticed in the years to come called the Gilded Age, coined by Mark Twain as America started to gleam with gold. The start of such growth in American happened as businesses wanted to expand and workers began discovering new crops and demand for them increased. Farming so many crops quickly became more of a hindrance and required more hands to help harvest the crop. Then, as more crops grew, so did the demand, and the natural human pace no longer sufficed for harvesting. Such demand required better technology and faster transport on top of more workers to lend a hand. As technology also boomed during this era, it helped fuel the industries capability to flourish beyond belief. Industrialization grew like no one thought it could bring in a thriving economy, expanding cities, and with such growth a challenging workforce. Beginning with an expanding economy, many individuals like Andrew Carnegie and his steel industry lead the way into the Gilded Age. So much, that near the end of the century, America was completely dominated by successful businessmen; John Rockefeller and J.P. Morgan also became common household names. As the businesses grew, more job opportunities were available to citizens. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Architects Change The World How Architects Change the World To provide meaningful architecture is not to parody history, but to articulate it. Daniel Libeskind Mankind has built structures since the beginning of time and every structure which has been built throughout history has a story behind it. The reasons for building these structures are many and varied. The main reason for building a structure is out of necessity. Buildings such as the aqueducts of Rome, Windsor Castle of Medieval Europe, and the Golden Gate Bridge, were built out of necessity. Another reason for building a structure is an artistic expression or to express a sentiment, such as the Statue of Liberty, the Gateway Arch, or the Eiffel Tower . Without architects, none of us would be living in houses, none of us would have schools to go to, and none of us would have bridges to cross water. One good example of a structure being built out of necessity is the golden gate bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is a suspension bridge 4,200 feet long spanning the San Francisco Bay. It opened in 1937 and was the longest suspension bridge in the world until 1964. Joseph Strauss was the head engineer for the bridge, but it was ultimately designed by Leon Moisseiff, who was also the championed designer of the Manhattan Bridge. The bridge cost over 35 million dollars and from it s opening through January 2014, over two billion vehicles have crossed the bridge. The color of the Bridge is officially international orange picked by architect Irving Morrow because it complements the natural scenery, and this orange makes this bridge one of the most recognized bridge in the world. In addition to being one of the most recognized bridge in the world, today the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most photographed and the most driven over bridge in the world. • 6. How Does Social Media Affect Social Activism Slacktivism a term used to define actions performed through the internet regarding little to no actual involvement. With this in mind many believe that social networks encourage people to not be so motivated to go out and do something for a change. Malcolm Gladwell wrote an article called Small Change: Why The Revolution Won t Be Tweeted? discussing the influence that social media has on activism. He begins with expressing the waves of activism in the 1960 s, which is completely different to present time. He expresses modern time movements as the lamest way of activism. However, many others can argue that social media redefines activism. How does social media affect social activism? The ability of social networks by bringing people together should not be underestimated as it changes public awareness, up brings immediate urgency, and creates social connections. Initially through social media, information is spread in a matter that changes public awareness. Sometimes people are unaware of certain situations that are happening in the world, so sharing them online is their way of bringing attention to it. In response to Gladwell s claim, Pamela Rutledge writes an article called Four Ways Social Media Is Redefining Activism claiming that social media in fact redefines activism in four ways. One of the many reasons of refinement is that it changes public awareness. Rutledge gives the example of a Haitian earthquake by saying, While many people were moved to text in ... • 8. Suv And Crossover Vehicles Of Cars SUV and Crossover vehicles are starting to take over the US car market. 2016 is the year of the SUV and pickup truck. Each month the car sales share of the market slips a bit (NPR, 2016). This means that sales of your average car are starting to slip. If you pay attention while driving down the road you may notice this. I believe there are several reasons why this is starting to be the case. SUVs and Crossover vehicles sit higher than an average commuter or luxury car. They tend to have more space inside for passengers and cargo. They are starting to rival the fuel economy of cars. Four wheel drive is a feature available to all of them. Now before I get started I said SUVs and Crossovers. While these two types of vehicles are broadly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is especially true if a person has to commute long distances to work. A new study by TrueCar.com finds tooling around in a small SUV is no longer that wasteful. The sales weighted fuel economy average is only 2 miles per gallon apart (26.83 mpg SUV vs. 28.84 mpg sedan) SUV owners typically will pay only another $3 more tankful to fill up their SUV compared to a sedan. (USA Today, 2015). Granted those numbers are for a Crossover, However manufactures like Nissan and RAM Trucks are starting to place small diesel engines in half ton trucks in order to gain fuel economy without sacrificing payload capability. RAM is claiming to make up to 29 MPG with their small diesel (I was not able to find fuel economy numbers for the Nissan engine). So it is likely fair to assume that it is only a matter of time before traditional SUVs get engines of that type. Height is also an apparent factor in the purchase of these vehicles. People reportedly like the fact that they sit higher than an average car. It gives people the feeling that they have command of the road . As someone that drives a full size truck I can confirm that being able to see over the car(s) in front of you does give you a certain commanding feeling. Driving a low sitting sedan just feels like you are dragging your backside across the pavement. However I think there may be more to the height factor. • 9. Parking Spaces At The New Livermore Bart Station Parking Statistics Introduction A parking structure is being built for the new Livermore BART station. The Livermore Department of Transportation would like to provide as many parking spaces as possible in the parking structure. This study will determine an ideal parking space size in order to maximize the amount of available spaces while still accommodating an appropriate range of car sizes. Methods We located a sample pool of automobiles that accurately reflected the socio economic demographic of the Livermore area to determine the type of cars owned in the community. From this sample we determined the range in car sizes that would be parking in the new parking structure. We measured a sample of the automobile s lengths and widths to determine the mean and deviation of the vehicles the new parking structure would need to accommodate. We determined the seven parking lots of Las Positas College was an accurate and large enough representation of the demographic that would be utilizing the Livermore BART station parking structure. Different student demographics use different parking lots on campus. The trucks and bigger vehicles driven by the firefighting students, veterans and welding students parked in the lots closer to their buildings. For this reason, we found it necessary to take sample measurements from all seven parking lots at the Las Positas College campus so that we would have an accurate sample of the lifestyles reflected by car sizes that would be using the ... Causes Of Dropouts In The UAE Should I really drop out? he sadly said I think have no other choice, besides I cannot even afford it In the recent years of UAE, a good amount of students are dropping out of universities. Why are the classes getting empty? Where are the students leaving? Setting the education off the priorities is something normal now in the UAE, but from a logical point of view it should not be normal. It is safe to say that increase rate of dropouts can be added to the list of problems that UAE faces. For instance, the American University of Sharjahonce showed that 30% of students drop out after the freshmen year, and this is just one university out of many in the UAE. There are many different causes behind this problem for sure. The most important... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, inflation is striking in all over UAE, and paying for tuition fees is becoming harder than ever. For example, the American University of Sharjah office of registrar stated on the undergraduate catalog of 2010 2011 that the tuition fee per semester is approximately 37,000 dhs whereas the tuition fee per semester of 2016 2017 is about 50,000 dhs. A probable reason why students are dropping out is they come from a poor financial background, where the parents find some difficulties to pay the tuition fees, or they have other expenses to commit to such as rents, debts, and regular consumptions. Furthermore, a second reason could be the lack of earning scholarships or financial aids. In the recent years, universities lean towards to be pickier in the admission of the scholarships; as a result, students are forced to drop out as they rely fully on the scholarships. In my case, I had the same problem and I was not able to maintain the scholarship. I was about to drop out, but thank god I did ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the 1800 s following the war of 1812, the term commonly applied to that era in the United States was known as the era of good feelings . While the United States was growing in several different aspects, such as politically, socially and economically, and changing as a country, there are several key factors that denote this term, and nullify its meaning. While the changes were significant, and the United Statesevolved at an exponential rate after the war of 1812, the accuracy of the term era of good feelings is way off, and the United States was anything but experiencing an era of good feelings . Although this was increase throughout the United States, this economical situation occurred primarily in the North, and much less in the south. In the south, the economic increase was much different. Because of the large amounts of plantations and farms in the south, new land was needed so that the crops that had dried up the soil could continue to grow and the economy can continue to benefit. This growth in land and economy indicates that the economic benefit in the south came from crops and agricultural might, rather than industrial. These differences help identify that the era of good feelings and the nationalism that is implied is incorrect and inaccurate, as people have more of a connection towards the land that they make their money on, which implies sectionalism. Politically, the era of good feelings was extremely off. Even before the war of 1812, there had always been a major difference in the political parties and systems of the government. A major difference in this coming from extremely opposing ideologies of the parties and the lack of unity between the two. The difference between the parties is also present in Document C, which shows two different party tents during the fourth of july. Whilst the people are generally happy, the party tents show that the difference is quite evident, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It followed the evolution of White Man s Dog, later known as Fools Crow, an adolescent Pikunis Blackfeet Indian from the band Lone Eaters, who yearned to become wealthy and honored. An opportunity to attain the respect he desired emerged when Fast Horse and Yellow Kidney invited him along to a horse raid against the Crow despite his reputation for misfortune. While on their journey to Crow camp, Fast Horse disclosed a dream where Cold Maker instructed him to clear their water source and bring him two bull robes for his daughters in exchange for a successful invasion. White Man s Dog also had a recurring dream of women sleeping in a lodge, who awoke with lust in their eyes, but it ended as he moved toward them. He was uncertain of the meaning though he knew that there was danger in that direction (pg. 18), and he chose to withhold its possible significance from his fellow warriors. White Man s Dog was chosen to lead the capturing of horses, and kills a Crow guard who detected the warriors. The group believed Yellow Kidney was killed so they returned home, and White Man s Dog was praised for his role, but Fast Horse became isolated as dreams suggested an unfinished duty to Cold Maker. The slave is at the mercy of their master and is free to be bought, sold, or traded by their master. The United States first adopted a policy of slavery in the middle of the 17th century. Before American slavery became solely race based, there were indentured servants. These people worked on farms or government projects until they had paid off their debts. Eventually this practice evolved into the race based slavery that is familiar today. African slaves imported from Africa were cheaper than indentured servants, and they had little to no voice in their treatment. After the TV drama Cathy Come Home (1966) was released, pressure mounted for central government intervention on homelessness and this bought along the establishment of Shelter around the same time, which was a campaigning group for the homeless. It was recommended that primary responsibility for the homeless should be transferred from local authority social services to housing departments, by a number of official committees in the late 1960s and early 1970s(Robson and Poustie, 1996). Unlike most countries where rising from rags to riches was highly uncommon and a hopeless dream, America was a place for people to work hard and achieve their dreams. Carl Sandburg was a very influential poet who came from very humble beginnings under immigrant parents who had moved to America. To achieve the American Dream , Sandburg had to travel across the States, overcome challenging experiences, such as searching for newspapers to work for, keeping a job, and dealing with the death of his daughter Madeline. It began with the explanation that silver based riches were being found and founded in the Arizona area through mining for the gem and providing goods and services. Promise of this paradise prompted farmers,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lead woman in this movie comes into town with an acting troupe and says that her heaven is room service and traveling around the world. This is a typical draw for Easterners to come to the West as it was a wildly different place they did not need to cross an Ocean for. This woman, Josie Marcus, also is seen as vile for being with a man for looks but not love. Calamity Jane ran into similar issues with her persona as evidenced by this situation: Her masculine prowess, symbolized by her aggressive movements, conventional male clothing, and gun were acceptable in the ring, but not back stage (Russel 30). Even on the men s side where Wyatt Earpis seen as the quintessential frontiersman as stated by Fabian, note the lean silhouette, eyes closed by the sun yet sharp as a hawk, he s got the look of both predator and prey, there are men who show different traits. Billy is a character who seems to be on the outskirts of society as he calls the Cowboys his friends yet all they ever do is laugh at him. The reason for this may be revealed through later revelations as he shows homosexual feelings for Fabian. This is shown through his words and tone when speaking about him as well as how he reacts to Fabians death: quickly squeezing the dead hand and running from the Cowboys. Public perception of homosexuality at the time was that it was scientifically reviled. Peter Boag found in his report of this subject that, precisely at this time so called experts began to classify unusual sexualities as medical issues. They lumped together under the rubric sexual inversion a host of what they considered perversions, including what later would be separately understood as homosexuality, transsexuality, and hermaphroditism. Together, these themes show great detail into what gender roles were in 1881 Arizona and how strictly they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Simple Man The Life of a Simple Man was written by Emile Guillaumin, a former peasant going through many changes in the 19th century Europe. He wrote about a peasant boy living in France just fifty years before him. The book itself is based on Guillaumin s own experience being a peasant in France. At the time the book was written which was about 1900s, he felt that the French peasants were not being recognized in the extent contemporary literature was being produced. Around this time, the industrialization of Europe was accelerating; there were many changes that were occurring, including the mixing of cities with factories and the agriculture industry in rural areas. This change gave Guillaumin the ability to write about a milestone about the differences in people and their lively hoods. A milestone which consisted in seeing the changes of people s lives as new work arose and new opportunities for what was thought of a better life. • 47. Chillie Labrosse Analysis The eighth story of Scott s Viger is titled Josephine Labrosse. From the outside, this story seems to incite the most positive reaction. Victor s name is seemingly aptonymic in the sense that he provides Viger, and so the family of three generations of women, with a complete familial unit. The scheming of sending Josephine into the city recalls No. 68 Rue Alfred de Musset, but in this case the union between Victor and Josephine is cause for celebration, until Scott addition troubles the ending to the tale. The singing of C est dans la vill Bytown (75) is troubling indirectly. Once provided with the lyrics this becomes all the more apparent. The lyrics of the song are as follows: It is in the town of Bytown/Where the English resided/Where there are three pretty girls (137). This begins the tension initiated by the song; the three pretty girls could be a reference to the three generations of women in Josephine Labrosse. The song continues: Who are perfect in beauty/The youngest is my mistress/My heart charmed her (138). The fact that the song is an accurate reiteration of the story means that Josephine is the de facto mistress in the song. The term mistress usually comes with a negative connotation; it implies the speaker s possession. The word charmed is also a cause for concern, because it can also be read is a troubling lens. Even more, where did this chorus (75) appear from? The fact that this illusory chorus was prepared to sing the troubling song is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
