Gustav Holst s The Planets
Gustav Holst was a British composer born in Cheltenham in 1874. The Planets
nearly took Gustav two years to compose because he had other jobs on the side, like
teaching, which he did almost his entire life. He believed that The Planets wasn t his
best works, though it was an immediate success. Along with the success of The
Planetshis work load and his stress levels also rose. In 1924 he was ordered to take a
break, by his doctor, in the country where he could compose his music without any
problems or other stresses. Gustav Holstdied on the 25th of May 1934 of congestive
heart failure. The live performance of The Planets that I observed was conducted by
Maciej Tarnowski. He started experimenting and learning how to play instruments...

The hall was very well lit the whole time during the performance. I expected for the
hall to be dimmed just to make the room feel more intimate, but I guess I had a
bias idea of what a classical performance should look like. I found the venue to be
small compared to what o was anticipating. The walls to the venue seemed to be
made out of a white marble and it had a huge beautiful organ as the back drop.
There were also two balconies, one in each side of the room, and a large chandelier
in the middle that shined on the orchestra below. The venue could probably be
classified as a warm/ friendly environment.
The attire of the orchestra was the usual black and white tux for men and the black
dressy dresses for the ladies. Being that it was a classical music event, I didn t see
anything out of the ordinary with the outfits and the colors didn t call my attention
in any way either. It was the normal, expected look that you would see for these
type of performers to have. I saw a few lace dresses, some had embroidery, and others
were just plain black dresses. As for the men they looked like copies of one another.
They had the same bow tie, same dress shirt and the same suit
Symptoms And Symptoms Of Bipolar Disorder
After class discussion, it became apparent that individuals with bipolar disorder
(BD) can have occupations and can interact normally with others if the disorder is
kept under control or manage by psychopharmacological interventions. The lability
that can be seen during the manic episodes may be puzzling or irritating to those
who are not familiar with the different signs and symptoms that a person may
display during this phase. In view of the unpredictability or lability that individuals
with BD may exhibit and the consequences of their behaviors, it is worthwhile to
consult the literatures for more details about the disorder. Bipolar disorder is
categorized into bipolar I, bipolar II, and cyclothymic based on the severity and
manifestation of the disorder. Bipolar I according to the Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition(DSM 5), is A distinct period of
abnormally persistently elevated, expansive, or irritable mood and abnormally
and persistently increased activity or energy, lasting at least 1 week and present
most of the day, nearly every day(or any duration if hospitalization is necessary),
(2015). From the above description of bipolar I disorder, it is apparent that
individuals experiencing manic episodes can utilize or burn most of their energy.
Bipolar I is a mood disorder in which the individual exhibits at least one episode of
mania alternating with major depression for at least one week. The manic episode
may be accompany by
Urban Sprawl
Urban sprawl and its effects on local finances are a trending topic of investigation
nowadays mainly because urban sprawl has been associated with negative
consequences to the cost of providing public services. Carruthers and Ulfarsson
(2003) affirm that urban sprawl is associated with higher providing cost of public
goods because of the considerable levels of investment required to expand basic
infrastructure and other public services over greater distances so as to reach
relatively smaller number of residents. Even though urban sprawl is an important
issue to local public finance, empirical evidences regarding this topic, in general,
are relatively scarce and concentrated primarily on US cities. Many of the empirical
studies have adopted an approach based on econometric techniques to quantify the
effects of urban sprawl on per capita local spending. However, the empirical results
are still not conclusive and may vary from study study. Carruthers and Гљlfarsson
(2008), for example, pointed out evidences that the density of developed land (a
urban sprawl measure) in US cities has a negative effect on five key measures of
local government spending: total direct, education, parks... Show more content on

Rico and SolГ© OllГ© (2010) used urbanized area per capita and Hortas Rico (2014)
considered the built up area per capita as a measure of sprawl. Both papers had the
same conclusion: there is a positive effect of urban sprawl on the cost of providing
public goods, both aggregated and disaggregated
Color Purple Symbolism
Symbolism in The Color Purple
Alice Walker s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Color Purple, tells the story of a
young black woman in rural Georgia over thirty years in the first half of the twentieth
century. Through her letters to God and her sister Nettie, the protagonist, Celie,
shares her struggles against physical, sexual, emotional and verbal abuse. Through
Celie s story and the stories of the other people in her life, the novel explores the
themes of racism, sexuality, spirituality, and gender roles. Walker enriches the story
and advances these themes through the use of symbols such as the sewing of quilts
and pants; music; and the use of colors. First, sewing is an important symbol in the
novel that advances the theme of the traditional ... Show more content on

Sewing quilts and pants provides Celie a way to focus her energy on creative
production. This provides her independence and growth much like music provides
the same opportunities to Shug Avery and Mary Agnes. Music however also has a
dark side in the rural Georgia society and members of the community see it as dark
and seductive. This view of music and musicians liberates the women and provides
them with sexual power of men. Lastly, colors are important symbols in the novel. In
particular, purple, the novels namesake, represents Celie s fully developed
spirituality and an appreciation for God in all
How Human Brain Works Essay
How the Human Brain Works
The human brain is one of the most amazing organs in a body and at the same time
the most mysterious. It is the control center of the body and it s important to
understand the complexity of the human brain. Although your brain functions as a
whole, it consists of three main parts, The Central Core, the Limbic System, and the
Cerebral Cortex. Then those parts break into even smaller parts. The brain is just like
the computer, it depends on certain parts to work correctly and get every day jobs
and even more complex jobs done.
The Central Core The Central Core is the first of the three main parts of the brain. It
is also broken up into five main parts that help us do the everyday simple things in
life like, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Limbic system is separated in three parts, the Hippocampus, the Amygdala, and
the Hypothalamus. The Hippocampus s role is controlling emotion, learning, and
memory; while the Amygdala controls aggression, eating, drinking, and sexual
behaviors. Then you have the Hypothalamus which monitors the blood levels of
glucose, salt, blood pressure, and hormones. It also helps to control the processes in
the body through its connection to the central and autonomic nervous systems and
endocrine system.
The Cerebral Cortex
The Cerebral Cortex directs the brain s higher cognitive and emotional functions. It is
divided into two equal halves called cerebral hemispheres. Each hemisphere has the
same four areas called lobes. Areas in the lobes control all forms of conscious
experience, perception, emotion, thought, and planning, as well as many unconscious
and emotional processes. The frontal lobe helps in motor control and cognitive
activities, like planning, making decisions, setting goals, and relating the present to
the future through purpose. The parietal lobe controls the sensory process, spatial
interpretation, attention, and language understanding. The occipital lobe controls the
process of visual information and passes its conclusions to the parietal and temporal
lobes. This leads me to the temporal lobe which assists in auditory perception,
language comprehension, and visual recognition.
If the central core, limbic system or cerebral cortex fails the brain will not be
How Does Frieda Escape Inertia
The love and companionship of Liza and Frieda enter the narrative as the only
cures to the protagonists stifling feeling of inertia. However, the men are unable
to escape inertia with their women and therefore slip back into the circular pattern
of inertia as before. Bell presents the idea that, for the Underground Man, Liza can
be seen as an indication of a truly viable alternative to the crystal palace, and
consequently, also to the underground (Bell 142). Due to her willingness to listen to
and connect with the Underground Man, Liza s love could have been the antidote
to the Underground Man s inert solitude. His agony waiting for her to come back to
see her again is proven in his explicit desire to escape inertia, cry with her, and...

It was only through the continuation of their love that both of them would be able
to combat inertia, which Pepi directly states when talking to K. (Kafka 270). In
both cases, both the men and the women understand their love as an escape.
However, by giving money to Liza for her act of love, the Underground Man
destroys his opportunity to escape from his state of inertia (Dostoevsky 119 120).
In K. s case, his negligence of his love caused her to abandon him. This moment
destory s K. s previous drive for progress: I am tired, I long to be even more
entirely unoccupied (Kafka 268). While previously he was inspired to work for
her wellbeing, when Frieda leaves, K. loses his desire for working and explicitly
embraces inertia in longing to be even more unoccupied (Kafka 163). To cope with
their loss of love, the two protagonists return to their inert state and try to
rationalize it as the best situation. The Underground Man sees his inertia as a thing
to be proud of: the rest of the world is too cowardly to reject society like he has
(Dostoevsky 123). Even though his degradation is not pleasant, it is better than the
Crystal Palace way of life, and he sees no feasible other alternative, given that he
threw away his one potential
Franco-Prussian War Research Paper
Prussia s Instigation of the Franco Prussian War The Franco Prussian War was fought
between France and Prussia from 1870 into 1871. The circumstances leading into the
war were contentious with Prince Leopold receiving candidacy for the Spanish
throne, but did not present a situation in which war was imminent. Hostilities
between the two nations were minimal until July of 1870 when a series of events
prompted the war to commence on the 19th when France declared war on Prussia.
What or who provided this catalytic evolution of tensions between France and
Prussia? Two significant political leaders lead France headlong into the Franco
Prussian war, Antoine AgГ©nor Alfred the Duke of Gramont and Otto Eduard
Leopold von Bismarck Prussia s chief minister. Following Queen Isabella II

Minutia Essay
What is Minutiae?
Generally, two fingerprints have been looked at utilizing discrete components called
minutiae. These elements incorporate focuses in a finger s rubbing skin where
edges end (called an edge completion) or split (called an edge bifurcation). Normally,
there are on the request of 100 details on a ten print. With a specific end goal to hunt
and match fingerprints, the organize area and the introduction of the edge at every
minutia point are recorded. Figure 4 1 demonstrates a case of the two sorts of details.

The area of every minutia is spoken to by a facilitate area inside the unique mark s

ANSI/NIST standard indicates units of separation as far as 0.01 mm from a

Structural Protein
Functions of Proteins in Living Organisms
Proteins are an essential part of a healthy diet in the human body which help to
stimulate growth and maintenance. They are made up of amino acids, which the
body uses to make new protein for a huge variety of functions. Proteins work as a
power source which is said to be the bodies tissue building blocks. Protein is needed
to form blood cells. Protein assists in shaping the hair, nails and muscles which are
the structural features of the body.
Structural Protein
Structural proteins produce in the cells are use to shape component in the body, for

three polypeptide chains surrounding each other like a twisted rope. Collagen

One of this filament is called myosin. Myosin exists as a filament inside of the
eukaryotic cells which are a motor molecule responsible for a number of interactions,
such as contractions muscles and movement. The head and the tail domain are mostly
composed of myosin molecules and converts ATP (adenosine triphosphate), a
molecule that cells use in order to work and live, into mechanical energy (energy of
work). This will then create force and movement. The filamentous actin is bound by
the head domain and uses ATP hydrolysis to walk along the filament and to create
force and towards the end. The tail domain generally mediates interaction with other
myosin subunits and/or cargo molecules. This will result in an expansion and
contraction movement. It works closely with a globular protein called actin that
polymerises to create actin

sexual way (GPO, 2003). The law
Gambling Disorder And Its Effects On Society
Gambling disorder involves the urge to gamble continuously despite financial and
social consequences or a desire to stop. It is seen as being out of control and
dominating the person s life. It is important to note that most gambling is not
associated with a mental disorder as it is often a form of recreation in many cultures
around the world. Gambling can be defined as placing something of value at risk in
the hopes of gaining something of greater value (Potenza, 2008). Pathological
gambling affects approximately between 0.1 percent and 2 percent of the population
(Petry, 2016).
Pathological gambling is listed in the DSM 5 chapter entitled Substance Related
and Addictive Disorders . However, it differs from substance use disorders because
those involve the brain experiencing repeated exposure to toxic chemicals as well as
the experience of the physiological mechanisms of tolerance and withdrawal. As
gambling disorder is a behavioral addiction, toxic chemicals and their effect on
tolerance and withdrawal do not really apply. Gambling disorder is the first
disorder to be included as a non substance behavioral addiction in the DSM 5. Since
1980, pathological gambling, now called gambling disorder, has been included in
the DSM, though it was previously classified as an Impulse Control Disorder Not
Otherwise Specified (Petry, 2016). Now it has been classified with the substance use
disorders because of their similar symptoms such as preoccupation with gambling and

How has the implementation of NAFTA affected Wal Mart s success in Mexico?
When NAFTA was implemented in Mexico, it was an almost immediate success
for Wal Mart. This was because they lowered and abolished the tariffs that Wal Mart
was required to pay prior to the implementation of NAFTA. With the lack of tariff
fees, all of the Wal Marts in Mexicohave been able to offer the Every Day Low
Prices that we Americans are used to. The Mexican population has other retail

3. What have Comerci and Soriana done to remain competitive? What else do you

Comerci and Soriana were once the staple consumers flocked too. This was of
course due to the lack of many other options available to them in the market. Wal
Mart of course came in with their Every Day Low Price guarantee and that
changed everything in Mexico s consumer market. Both companies reacted by
trying to lower their prices in order to compete with Wal Mart, but the mega
business that is Wal Mart has a much deeper wallet and was able to firmly grip the
market with its buying power. Mexico retailers use a different pricing structure
known as high and low , rather than lowering the prices they offer sales or deep
discounts but still cannot compete with Wal Mart s pricing. (Daniels, Radebaugh,
amp; Sullivan, 2013) So Comerci, Soriana and Gigante formed a purchasing
consortium that allows them to negotiate better pricing from suppliers. This
collaboration known as Sinergia, ran into problems with Mexican regulators and the
consumer product council. These agencies feared that Sinergia would use its

Along with being translated into every language, Shakespeare s words reach and
are accepted by multiple races and cultures (McMillan). A reason William
Shakespeare is accepted by multiple races could be the fact that he does not ignore
the issues and tensions between them and instead makes light of them by
including them in his plays such as Othello and The Merchant of Venice. He
addresses the struggles between different colors and religions. He never takes a
designated side; he simply tells a story which is what has helped him be so well
accepted ( Race Introduction ). Not only has Shakespeare related to his audiences
through racial aspects, but also through common emotional experiences.
Shakespeare used his words and made them speak to his audiences using emotional
feelings that anyone would naturally feel (McMillan). His works can be classified
into three main categories: tragedies, histories, and comedies ( William
Shakespeare 656). Each of these categories has characters that the audience can
relate to somehow. With Shakespeare s tragedies, his characters are noble heroes
that are looked up to that are all facing tragedy. His histories obviously tell the
stories of events that have happened for people to relate to. William Shakespeare s
comedies have characters that many find irresistible. And lastly, the women in his
plays can also be relatable. We can all
Green Architecture and the Environment
Introduction
Green Architecture
Definition and Origin
Green architecture or Sustainable building is the practice of building homes which
are environment friendly and resource efficient throughout its life time. It is a way of
reacting to the global economic crisis, environmental issues, growing human
population, destruction of natural resources and the loss of biodiversity. While it may
seem that this practice started only a few decades ago when environmentalists and
conservationist were given life, the ancient people put it up to use already way back
in their own times. The Anasazi Indians, for example, had built their homes in

And one way to do this is by having a good water and waste management. Through
this management water usage would be efficient and at the same time effective. And
one way to manage water is by applying grey water system. This system says that
used water is not totally useless, and thus can be used for something else like
gardening. About 28% of the freshwater are used for toilets. To lessen this,
composting toilets can be used. Composting toilets aerobic decomposition. Another
way of utilizing water is by rainwater harvesting. Rainwater Harvesting is a process
that accumulates and stores freshwater from the rain and the accumulated water is
then used for other household purposes such as gardening.
Building placement and size are also considered in Green Architecture. Although
manyt may envision a green building in a rural, forested environment, this building
placement may be detrimental to its surrounding. The wastes that the household
produces end up lying around their home. Plus, the cost of energy required for
transportation is higher when you are away from the suburb. This may cause higher
carbon emissions too. Green buildings are also preferably small in size. This is to
minimize the waste produced by the household from cleaning, air conditioning etc.
Also, architects suggest that green houses be one storey to maximize space and
lessen wastes.

Roots of the Rwandan Genocide
On April 6, 1994, Rwanda experienced a period of great turmoil as thousands of
people fell victim to the horrors of the Rwandan genocide. The main targets of the
genocide were Tutsis and Hutu moderates. Though the main cause of the genocide
was a conflict between two ethnicities, the genocide was also fueled by political
factors and social conditions. Rwandais the smallest sub Saharan country with a
population of about 7 million inhabitants. Although the indigenous peoples of
Rwanda are the Twa, they are now the minority. 90% of Rwanda s population is

As a result, peace and unity between the Hutu and Tutsi military and political groups

The Genocide Roughly 800,000 Tutsis and Hutu sympathizers were killed during the
events of the Rwandan genocide. Although tensions were high between the Hutus
and the Tutsis long before the genocide began, the assassination of Rwanda s
second president, President Habyariama, created even more hostility between the
two ethnic groups. Extreme Hutu nationalists accused a Tutsi organization called
the Rwandese Patriotic Front (RPF), and many Tutsis blamed Hutus. Because of
this disagreement, extremist Hutu groups such as the Hutu militia and the
Rwandan Armed Forces (FAR) were encouraged by radical radio stations to use
brutality and force to seek revenge for the death of the Hutu president. Within the
first few days of the genocide, Hutu militia groups executed the US Ambassador to
Rwanda, Ambassador Rawson, and 250 other Americans. The FAR and Hutu militia
used rape as a tactic to defeat the opposing groups. Moreover, the Hutu radical
groups used rape as a major weapon throughout the events of the genocide. In early
July, towards the end of the genocide, the RPF gained control of the country through
a military offensive ... hundreds of thousands of Rwandans were dead and many
more displaced from their homes . Because the genocide lasted only 100

HR is in a position to add value by proper formulation and implementation of these
important functions thus supporting organization strategy.
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
A learning organization is fast becoming a reality. In any organization continuous
learning means growth through learning events and experiences for individual
employees as well as teams, and the organization as a whole. HR plays an important
role in developing a culture of continuous learning. Identifying training and
development needs and arranging and development programs for employee is part of
the whole learning process. A system which creates an environment conductive to
learning through experience, coaching, mentoring, self learning as well as through
training and development is a must in the learning organization. HR which is the
main organizer, director and controller of learning must ensure that actual learning is
followed by its application for bring about improvements in different areas of
operations. If that happens, the learning objective is achieved and HR is successful in
adding value to the organization.
Three Ways HR Professionals Support Line Managers and their Staff
The primary reason human resources and line managers should work together is
because both parties have a vested interest in ensuring the company achieves success.

Research Paper On Sacrifice
Sacrifice is when you give up something for someone that you love for their
happiness. My personal experience with sacrifice is when i used to play travel
softball, and my parent had sacrificed a lot of their time and money for me to be
able to do what i like to do. Whether it was making sure I had my uniform paid for,
or waking up really early in the morning they still sacrificed their time and money
for me. I had a softball tournament almost every weekend, and my parents would
wake up early every morning just to make sure I got to my games on time. All these
tournaments were at least an hour away, and even sometimes they were out of this
state. But my parents would sacrifice their time just to take me. Also, they had to buy
my uniform,
Andrew Carnegie s Life During The Progressive Era
During the Progressive Era there was a lot of horrible things happening. There
were people that didn t try to make it easier to live at this time. Those people didn t
care who they hurt or took over to get what they wanted to get more money.
Andrew Carnegie is a robber baron and that means he will do whatever is
necessary to be on top. He was born November 25, 1835 in Dunfermline United
Kingdom. when he was 16 he had a friend in scotland and they wrote letter to each
other. Carnegie wrote to him a lot about different things. They discuss how their two
countries were so different in the way that it handles different issues. at that time he
was so good at writing letters that he wrote for the newspaper. When Carnegie was

United States Interagency Council On Homelessness
In recent years, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH)
and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) have identified
rapid re housing as a critical strategy to meeting the national goal of ending family
homelessness by 2020 (USICH 2013). As noted in a recent update of Opening Doors,
the federal plan to end homelessness, [US Department of Health and Human
Services], HUD, [the US Department of Veterans Affairs], and USICH have joined
forces to promote expansion of rapid re housing as a part of community coordinated
systemsп‚ј (USICH 2013). Rapid re housing, an intervention that helps homeless
families exit shelters and get back into permanent housing quickly, provides short
term help with housing expenses (e.g., rent arrears, ongoing rent assistance, moving
costs) and case management focused on housing stability. Rapid re housing is a
relatively new but, as early evidence shows, promising strategy that communities
across the country are adopting. The emphasis on rapid re housing represents a
significant shift in the response to family homelessness toward a Housing First
philosophy. Increased attention on rapid re housing, accompanied by an influx of
resources, and expansion of programs, elicits urgent need for more rigorous
evaluation, some of which is already underway.
There is a small, but growing, body of evidence on the efficacy of rapid re housing.
Drawing on program data and early findings from evaluations in progress, this brief

I had just won first place in the oldest, most competitive sewing contest in the
country! Something most people could only dream of had suddenly become my
reality. So why wasn t I happy? Why did I feel like I was being whisked off to
prepare for the Hunger Games, groomed and fussed over by people who didn t care
about me?
Stepping off the stage after being announced as the Ohio representative to the
National Make It With Wool contest was thrilling. I would be traveling to Scottsdale,

And that scarf has to go. That crushing statement was an almost verbatim echo of the
criticism I had received from a condescending 4 H judge. Because that judge was
also judging this contest, those words dragged up other equally emotional and
painful memories. I felt singled out, hunted. Her overbearing, aggressive manner was
shocking, and by the time she started telling me what kind of outfit I needed to put
together for Nationals, I was in tears.
On top of all that, I learned that the contest would pay for me to fly out west, but
would not be paying for a parent s ticket. If my parents wanted to come, they would
have to purchase their own tickets, and airfare is expensive. I would most likely be
flying out on my own, navigating airports solo before arriving into an unknown
situation. Even if Mom or Dad came with me, once I arrived at the contest any
contact would be taboo. No phone calls, email, or text. I would be completely alone, a
thousand miles from home. Under normal circumstances I would have been worried;
the treatment I had just received transformed concern into terror.
Daphne finished instructing Mom in everything I needed to fix while I changed out
of the appallingly mismatched outfit. I hadn t expected to win the contest, but such a
harsh, personal attack left me wishing that I had never even entered. Angry,
humiliated, sacred, and upset, I spent most of the two hour car ride home sobbing. I

Vacation in Jamaica
Once in a lifetime vacation in Jamaica. Since my husband and I got married in
May of 2010, we did not have a honeymoon or a vacation. So my husband Ryan and
I came to a decision that we are going to take this opportunity and spend lavishes on
a combo vacation. This trip was once in a lifetime vacation in Jamaica, and we
were very excited, I felt like a little kid waiting for my very first candy. Ryan and I
went ahead and book our vacation at Sandals, in Montego Bay, Jamaica. There was
so much to do in just 14 days, I taught we would have lots of time for sight seeing
and enjoyed the package we choose, but in real time that was not the case. Once we

Michelangelo s David Research Paper
The story of David was one that held great significance to the people of Italy and
many artists had used David as the subject of their work. Michelangelo s David
(1501 04) and Bernini s David (1623) both depict the same subject matter but their
interpretations are very different due to the time periods they were produced in. In
my paper I will be explaining how the Renaissanceand the Baroqueperiods notably
changed the portrayal of David and how it influenced the artists of their times.
To begin, these art periods focused and displayed very different aspects of art. The
renaissance brought back Classical themes and techniques from ancient Roman and
Greek societies. Some of the most notable being a focus on the human body, using

Although using David as the subject of a piece was something that previous artists
had done, Michelangelo s David became a favorite to the people of Florence when it
was unveiled in 1504.The importance of David s nude body and its positioning is
obvious when we remember it was made during the Renaissance. Celebrating the
human form and having figures in contrapposto were defining aspects of this
period. Aside from being one of the most famous Renaissance artists, Michelangelo
is also regarded as one of the greatest artists and sculptors in history. Michelangelo s
David was, and still is, seen as the perfect and ideal image for the human body. The
amount of detail able to be seen, from the veins on his arms, to the muscles lining
his abdomen, shows how very meticulous Michelangelo was when it came when it
came to the human body. He cared so much about correct anatomy that he even
studied and dissected a human body to ensure an accurate but even more perfect
portrayal of the male figure. The elegance, beauty, and perfection displayed in
Michelangelo s David has made it into one of the most recognizable pieces of
Renaissance art in history. Many artists have been inspired by him and his artwork,
including Gian Lorenzo

approximately one fifth of the gross domestic product (GDP) and employs more

The Importance Of The African Slave Trade
What was the African slave trade like? Well, the slave trade in Africa was mostly
African peoples taking and enslaving other, sometimes rival, African peoples. The
newly enslaved people often separated from their families would then be taken and
put into shackles, shoved below deck into a stifling and cramped environment; then
left for the duration of the trip, surrounded by odious sights and smells. Slavery
Throughout History: Biographies, Slavery Throughout History: Primary Sources,
and the excerpt from Tribal Scars all include descriptions of this and further
examples on how the slave trade in Africa violates articles three, four, and five of
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. A man whose name struck fear into

slavers directly to his own people; meet Mohammed bin Hamid, better known as

slaves with his father for beads, cowry shells, copper, cotton, and cloth. As he got
older he eventually took over and expanded his father s trade to Arabia, Muscat,
Persia, Turkey, and Egypt. He and his men even made deals with local villages to raid
rival peoples. Tipu himself is guilty of violating articles four and five of The
Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Article four reads as such, No one shall be
held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their

On April 19th, 1995 in downtown Oklahoma City, there was a domestic terrorist
bomb attack on the Alfred P Murrah Federal Building. The blast killed 168 people

Badland Lyrics Analysis
Something that makes Badlands such a beautiful work of art are the lyrics, which
are simple and beautiful enough to make them relatable to nearly anyone who
listens to them. Many people have criticized Halsey s lyrics for being generic,
however, they are creative and carefully written, but may not appeal to everyone.
One of her best lyrics is a fan favorite, you were red, and you liked me because I
was blue. But you touched me and suddenly I was a lilac sky, and you decided
purple just wasn t for you. This lyric is from the song Colors, which was written
about Halsey s brief relationship with Matty Healy from the band The 1975. It
describes a relationship in which one person changes another so much that they find
they no longer are attracted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With your face all made up, living on a screen, low on self esteem so you run on
gasoline, from her song Gasoline. This song describes how Halsey feels like she is
an outsider to society and she feels that people are confused by her as she grows
more and more popular. The lyric, which is from the chorus, is her describing what
she sees other people as. She is saying that there s pressure to conform and not be
true to whom one really is, and if people don t have much confidence they will
follow popular trends to fit in and be accepted in society. Even though Halsey is
very unique and different, even she still feels the pressure due to fame, and she
feels that she s living on a screen. Finally, what is possibly the best lyric from
Badlands is from the song Control: I m bigger than my body; I m colder than this
home. I m meaner than my demons; I m bigger than these bones. Throughout the
song, Halsey describes her struggles with having bipolar disorder since she was a
teenager. She has been very open about having the disorder, even going so far as to
discuss it with several interviewers. This lyric is her assuring herself that she s
stronger than everything that s trying to hold her

characters and the house which plays a significant part in this story. This novel is
about a highly classed doctor of science, named Dr Jekyll. Dr Jekyll is a very

A man of a rugged countenance that was never lighted by a smile This could
suggest to the reader that Mr Utterson is a grim or evil character, which creates a
sense of mild horror and mystery already about this character. Now the writer again
informs the reader about uttersons look, lean, long, dusty, and dreary. This could
imply that utterson is a creepy dark person, therefore again creating a sense of
horror and mystery about him. This sense of mystery is portrayed again by
Stevenson, in the way he describes uttersons lifestyle and personality. He never
marked a shade of change in his demeanour. This makes utterson sound like an old
fashioned, cold hearted man, therefore creating a sense of mystery. Now the reader
has been told of uttersons looks and what his personality is like, now the writer
informs the reader about uttersons stature and influence on people around him.
The last good influence of the lives of down going men. This foreshadows what is
going to happen later on in the novel and that Mr Utterson may be involved, this
creates a sense of mystery and horror about what is to come. These quotations about
the lawyer, utterson, from the opening page, act as an early piece of foreshadowing
because why else would Stevenson want to tell the reader these facts about

The timeline to appeal is inconsistently stated in two different sections of the
WellCare Medicaid Provider Manual. In Section 5, the manual states that claim
payment disputes must be submitted to WellCare in writing within one year of the
date of the denial of the EOP. In Section 7, the Manual states that Providers have 90
calendar days from the original utilization management or claim denial to file a
provider appeal. Important to both of these provisions is that the appeal time
period does not commence until an EOP or claim denial is received by the
Hospital. In this case, the only written notice the Hospital appears to have received
from WellCare discussing its adjustment of the claim is the April 25, 2013 ERA.
The ERA, however, showed no denied charges, but instead purported (incorrectly) to
pay the entire claim at the contract rate. This is consistent with the verbal
information provided by WellCare s representatives that the claim had not been
denied. Accordingly, the appeal time period never started to run because no claim
denial was sent to the Hospital, and as such, the Hospital s appeals were timely
Pilots Performance Essay
Introduction The purpose of this study is to examine the performance of pilots
flying multiple types of aircraft in an experimental setting. Pilot performance will
be assessed by written tests and simulator sessions. This study will build on a
previous field study, Pilots Flying Multiple Aircraft Types or Multiple Flightdeck
Layouts, which was conducted for AVS 4504 Aviation Safety Analysis. The
results of that study showed a need for a simulator study to further identify if pilots
have issues maintaining currency in multiple types of aircraft. The following is a
summary that is found in the Pilots Flying Multiple Aircraft Types or Multiple
Flightdeck Layouts field study. (Raub, 2016) In aviation pilots rely heavily on
muscle memory cognitive biases while flying. Once pilots become familiar with a
certain aircraft or flight deck layout their hands will reach for controls without
needing to look for them. Pilots will also develop certain cognitive biases in
aircraft to help reduce their workload and increase mental capacity. The fact that
both muscle memory and cognitive bias are handled in one s subconscious a pilot
will not always be aware they are even occurring. Under FAA rules there is no limit
on how many different aircraft a pilot can maintain currency in under part 91. Under
part 135 pilots are generally limited maintaining currency two aircraft types. Under
part 121 pilots are limited to maintaining currency in one aircraft type. This could
lead to safety issues

When analyzing a copy for the means of producing a deliverable audit report, there
are a few details that must be considered first. One of the important aspects to
increase risk awareness and improve upon the current operations. To convey this thru

John Knowles s A Separate Peace
In the first few chapters of A Separate Peace alone, Gene Forrester is John
Knowles. In the first chapter, Gene is a grown man fifteen years in the future. He
describes Devon School in the summer session in 1942. Devon School is rarely
mentioned in the book. In A Separate Peace: The War Within the chronology states
that in 1943, a year older than the book, he too went to a summer session at Exeter
Academy (Bryant, xi). Knowles, too had a tree that he and other boys jumped off
of, but he broke his foot and had to be on crutches (Bryant, xi). This book is a rough
autobiography of his life. Gene and the author John Knowleswill be explained as
WWII in their eyes, the symbolism of Phineas, and the school and the older Gene. In
A Separate Peace, the summer session is for seniors who are training for the war.
Gene and Phineas are sixteen and not eligible for the draft. As the book states, they
jump off the tree used for diving in the river. Gene says in the book The tree was
tremendous, an irate, steely black steeple beside the river. I d be damned if I
climbed it (Knowles, 14). Similar to the book, Knowles probably thought the same
thing after he broke his foot.
In The War Within, Bryant states that A Separate Peace can be read as a war book.
With this in mind, it was only about two boys who were not of drafting age, but one
to two years before it. In the summer session, the teachers are a little less strict, but
only to the boys under eighteen. Even then, the boys

Effects Of The Slave Trade On The Country s Oldest Cities...
One of the country s oldest cities and the first capital of Brazil, from 1796 to 1888,
Salvador de Bahia had witnessed successful blending of European, African and
Indigenous cultures. From 1558, the first slave market in the New World, with
slaves arriving to work on the sugar plantations and later tobacco fields, Salvador
became the poster child for positive cultural assimilation. The slave trade, which
lasted in Bahia until 1888 had a direct impact on the state today; large Afro Brazilian
population and its European, African, and Indigenous blend of cultures. The
widespread impact of the slave trade on the county s inhabitants, culture, and the
economy proves that the slave trade in Salvador, Brazilled to more than an economical
gain for the Portuguese. I argue that slave and race relations in Salvador, Brazil
though atrocious had outcomes that remain vastly different from other colonized
country s experience during this time racially, socially, and economically.
Salvador, historically known as, SГЈo Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos
translates to City of the Holy Savior of the Bay of all Saints, is the largest city on
the northeast coast of Brazil and the capital of the Brazilian state of Bahia. The first
colonial capital of Brazil, the city is one of the oldest in the Americas. Salvador is
the third most populous Brazilian city, after SГЈo Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The
African influence in many cultural aspects of the city makes it the center of Afro

Impact Of The Asian Financial Crisis Of 1997 On The
Region...
Examine the impact of the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 on the region s development
Since World war II, development has been the most important term used to describe
economic, social and political changes in what have come to be known as Third
world countries (Zhang, 2003).
The Asian financial crisis of 1997 had a major impact on the regions development as
it was the end of the East Asian economic miracle, a time that showed staggering
economic growth throughout the Asia Pacific. However, despite evidence that the
economic development has slowed down within the region, it can be argued that the
1997 crisis encouraged intra regional co operation and collaboration, developing intra
regional trade and encouraged the creation of ASEAN ... Show more content on

Garran (1998) argues that most countries affected failed to set up acceptable
regulations and supervision that would have allowed capital markets to develop
without risky imbalances. He states that countries over borrowed, over invested and
over reached themselves .
Although it can be argued that the entire region felt the effects of the crisis, some
countries suffered more than others. According to Barro (2001) the countries mainly
affected include Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand,
this is because between July 1997 to early 1998 these countries experienced
currency depreciations of more than 50%. In these countries, offshore nominal
interest rates reached at least 25% at some point between June 1997 and January
1998. Real per capita GDP fell by 16% in Indonesia, 12% in Thailand, 10% in
Malaysia, and 8% in South Korea, and 3% in the Philippines. He argues that China,
Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan were much less affected by the crisis as
they experienced depreciations of less than 25%, and nominal interest rates remained
below 20%.
The crisis resulted in the set back of over 30 years of strong economic and social
development in the region, the loss of jobs caused riots, destruction and even death
from poverty in the affected countries. Henderson (2011)
The Collective Bargaining And Negotiation Process
Almost everyone employed by a school district may participate in a collective
bargaining unit or an organized group of job positions represented by an association.
The association then participates in a joint decision making process, involving direct
negotiations to determine wages, hours of work or other terms and conditions of
employment for all employees in that unit. The collective bargaining process between
a board of education and any association of united teachers, service personnel or
administrators can have a wide range of effects for everyone involved in that district
and community, especially the students. The regional school district being utilized
for this review is that of a large regional school district, serving about 7,000 students
in grades 9 through 12, in the largest county in the state. It is an affluent community
of parents and community members from eight municipalities who recognize the
value of education and actively support the schools. Historically, teachers, parents and
administrators within the district have enjoyed a good, working relationship. As a
result of this ongoing positive relationship, the collective bargaining and negotiation
processes between the four associations in the district are relatively downplayed and
quiet. Several associations negotiate collective bargaining agreements with the
regional the local teacher s education association, public school employee association,
district administrators association, and the
The Nez Zealand Government Essay
Topic 1 According to the Nez Zealand government, a company will only be
considered as a company in New Zealand after it has been registered with the
company s office which administers the register of companies In New Zealand. In
New Zealand, a company must have at least one director who lives in New
Zealand or lives in Australia and is a director of an Australian company. The
directors are required to provide their date of birth, place of birth and sometimes
they need to provide the details of their ultimate holding company. Unlike sole
traders or partnerships, the company itself operates as a separate legal entity to its
shareholders. It owns its assets and liabilities whereas a sole trader is liable for all
the assets and liabilities directly. This feature of the companies is called limited
liability, this means that shareholders in the company can only be liable and can
only lose the value of their shares and not more than the value of their shares.
However on the other hand, directors are liable for the debts incurred by the
business if their conduct of the business is believed to be fraudulent, reckless and
not in the company s interest. Lastly companies are taxed at the company tax rate
which is 28% in New Zealand currently. The profits made by the company are taxed
to the individuals. Having a company has a lot of advantaged mainly having an
advantage accessing investments and also gaining more credibility and is more
secure than having a sole trading

  • 2. Gustav Holst s The Planets Gustav Holst was a British composer born in Cheltenham in 1874. The Planets nearly took Gustav two years to compose because he had other jobs on the side, like teaching, which he did almost his entire life. He believed that The Planets wasn t his best works, though it was an immediate success. Along with the success of The Planetshis work load and his stress levels also rose. In 1924 he was ordered to take a break, by his doctor, in the country where he could compose his music without any problems or other stresses. Gustav Holstdied on the 25th of May 1934 of congestive heart failure. The live performance of The Planets that I observed was conducted by Maciej Tarnowski. I expected for the hall to be dimmed just to make the room feel more intimate, but I guess I had a bias idea of what a classical performance should look like. I found the venue to be small compared to what o was anticipating. The walls to the venue seemed to be made out of a white marble and it had a huge beautiful organ as the back drop. There were also two balconies, one in each side of the room, and a large chandelier in the middle that shined on the orchestra below. The venue could probably be classified as a warm/ friendly environment. The attire of the orchestra was the usual black and white tux for men and the black dressy dresses for the ladies. Being that it was a classical music event, I didn t see anything out of the ordinary with the outfits and the colors didn t call my attention in any way either. It was the normal, expected look that you would see for these type of performers to have. I saw a few lace dresses, some had embroidery, and others were just plain black dresses. As for the men they looked like copies of one another. They had the same bow tie, same dress shirt and the same suit
  • 3. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Bipolar Disorder After class discussion, it became apparent that individuals with bipolar disorder (BD) can have occupations and can interact normally with others if the disorder is kept under control or manage by psychopharmacological interventions. The lability that can be seen during the manic episodes may be puzzling or irritating to those who are not familiar with the different signs and symptoms that a person may display during this phase. In view of the unpredictability or lability that individuals with BD may exhibit and the consequences of their behaviors, it is worthwhile to consult the literatures for more details about the disorder. Bipolar disorder is categorized into bipolar I, bipolar II, and cyclothymic based on the severity and manifestation of the disorder. Bipolar I according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition(DSM 5), is A distinct period of abnormally persistently elevated, expansive, or irritable mood and abnormally and persistently increased activity or energy, lasting at least 1 week and present most of the day, nearly every day(or any duration if hospitalization is necessary), (2015). From the above description of bipolar I disorder, it is apparent that individuals experiencing manic episodes can utilize or burn most of their energy. Bipolar I is a mood disorder in which the individual exhibits at least one episode of mania alternating with major depression for at least one week. The manic episode may be accompany by
  • 4. Urban Sprawl Urban sprawl and its effects on local finances are a trending topic of investigation nowadays mainly because urban sprawl has been associated with negative consequences to the cost of providing public services. Carruthers and Ulfarsson (2003) affirm that urban sprawl is associated with higher providing cost of public goods because of the considerable levels of investment required to expand basic infrastructure and other public services over greater distances so as to reach relatively smaller number of residents. Even though urban sprawl is an important issue to local public finance, empirical evidences regarding this topic, in general, are relatively scarce and concentrated primarily on US cities. Many of the empirical studies have adopted an approach based on econometric techniques to quantify the effects of urban sprawl on per capita local spending. However, the empirical results are still not conclusive and may vary from study study. • 6. How Human Brain Works Essay How the Human Brain Works The human brain is one of the most amazing organs in a body and at the same time the most mysterious. It is the control center of the body and it s important to understand the complexity of the human brain. Although your brain functions as a whole, it consists of three main parts, The Central Core, the Limbic System, and the Cerebral Cortex. Then those parts break into even smaller parts. The brain is just like the computer, it depends on certain parts to work correctly and get every day jobs and even more complex jobs done. The Central Core The Central Core is the first of the three main parts of the brain. It is also broken up into five main parts that help us do the everyday simple things in life like, ... The Hippocampus s role is controlling emotion, learning, and memory; while the Amygdala controls aggression, eating, drinking, and sexual behaviors. Then you have the Hypothalamus which monitors the blood levels of glucose, salt, blood pressure, and hormones. It also helps to control the processes in the body through its connection to the central and autonomic nervous systems and endocrine system. The Cerebral Cortex The Cerebral Cortex directs the brain s higher cognitive and emotional functions. It is divided into two equal halves called cerebral hemispheres. Each hemisphere has the same four areas called lobes. Areas in the lobes control all forms of conscious experience, perception, emotion, thought, and planning, as well as many unconscious and emotional processes. The frontal lobe helps in motor control and cognitive activities, like planning, making decisions, setting goals, and relating the present to the future through purpose. The parietal lobe controls the sensory process, spatial interpretation, attention, and language understanding. The occipital lobe controls the process of visual information and passes its conclusions to the parietal and temporal lobes. This leads me to the temporal lobe which assists in auditory perception, language comprehension, and visual recognition. If the central core, limbic system or cerebral cortex fails the brain will not be

However, the men are unable to escape inertia with their women and therefore slip back into the circular pattern of inertia as before. Bell presents the idea that, for the Underground Man, Liza can be seen as an indication of a truly viable alternative to the crystal palace, and consequently, also to the underground (Bell 142). It was only through the continuation of their love that both of them would be able to combat inertia, which Pepi directly states when talking to K. (Kafka 270). In both cases, both the men and the women understand their love as an escape. However, by giving money to Liza for her act of love, the Underground Man destroys his opportunity to escape from his state of inertia (Dostoevsky 119 120). In K. s case, his negligence of his love caused her to abandon him. This moment destory s K. s previous drive for progress: I am tired, I long to be even more entirely unoccupied (Kafka 268). While previously he was inspired to work for her wellbeing, when Frieda leaves, K. loses his desire for working and explicitly embraces inertia in longing to be even more unoccupied (Kafka 163). To cope with their loss of love, the two protagonists return to their inert state and try to rationalize it as the best situation. The Underground Man sees his inertia as a thing to be proud of: the rest of the world is too cowardly to reject society like he has (Dostoevsky 123). Even though his degradation is not pleasant, it is better than the Crystal Palace way of life, and he sees no feasible other alternative, given that he threw away his one potential

It is seen as being out of control and dominating the person s life. It is important to note that most gambling is not associated with a mental disorder as it is often a form of recreation in many cultures around the world. Gambling can be defined as placing something of value at risk in the hopes of gaining something of greater value (Potenza, 2008). Pathological gambling affects approximately between 0.1 percent and 2 percent of the population (Petry, 2016). Pathological gambling is listed in the DSM 5 chapter entitled Substance Related and Addictive Disorders . However, it differs from substance use disorders because those involve the brain experiencing repeated exposure to toxic chemicals as well as the experience of the physiological mechanisms of tolerance and withdrawal. As gambling disorder is a behavioral addiction, toxic chemicals and their effect on tolerance and withdrawal do not really apply. Gambling disorder is the first disorder to be included as a non substance behavioral addiction in the DSM 5. Since 1980, pathological gambling, now called gambling disorder, has been included in the DSM, though it was previously classified as an Impulse Control Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (Petry, 2016). Now it has been classified with the substance use disorders because of their similar symptoms such as preoccupation with gambling and

He addresses the struggles between different colors and religions. He never takes a designated side; he simply tells a story which is what has helped him be so well accepted ( Race Introduction ). My personal experience with sacrifice is when i used to play travel softball, and my parent had sacrificed a lot of their time and money for me to be able to do what i like to do. United States Interagency Council On Homelessness In recent years, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) have identified rapid re housing as a critical strategy to meeting the national goal of ending family homelessness by 2020 (USICH 2013). As noted in a recent update of Opening Doors, the federal plan to end homelessness, [US Department of Health and Human Services], HUD, [the US Department of Veterans Affairs], and USICH have joined forces to promote expansion of rapid re housing as a part of community coordinated systemsп‚ј (USICH 2013). Rapid re housing, an intervention that helps homeless families exit shelters and get back into permanent housing quickly, provides short term help with housing expenses (e.g., rent arrears, ongoing rent assistance, moving costs) and case management focused on housing stability. Rapid re housing is a relatively new but, as early evidence shows, promising strategy that communities across the country are adopting. The emphasis on rapid re housing represents a significant shift in the response to family homelessness toward a Housing First philosophy. Increased attention on rapid re housing, accompanied by an influx of resources, and expansion of programs, elicits urgent need for more rigorous evaluation, some of which is already underway. There is a small, but growing, body of evidence on the efficacy of rapid re housing. Drawing on program data and early findings from evaluations in progress, this brief

On top of all that, I learned that the contest would pay for me to fly out west, but would not be paying for a parent s ticket. If my parents wanted to come, they would have to purchase their own tickets, and airfare is expensive. I would most likely be flying out on my own, navigating airports solo before arriving into an unknown situation. Even if Mom or Dad came with me, once I arrived at the contest any contact would be taboo. No phone calls, email, or text. I would be completely alone, a thousand miles from home. Under normal circumstances I would have been worried; the treatment I had just received transformed concern into terror. Celebrating the human form and having figures in contrapposto were defining aspects of this period. Aside from being one of the most famous Renaissance artists, Michelangelo is also regarded as one of the greatest artists and sculptors in history. Michelangelo s David was, and still is, seen as the perfect and ideal image for the human body. • 28. The Importance Of The African Slave Trade What was the African slave trade like? Well, the slave trade in Africa was mostly African peoples taking and enslaving other, sometimes rival, African peoples. The newly enslaved people often separated from their families would then be taken and put into shackles, shoved below deck into a stifling and cramped environment; then left for the duration of the trip, surrounded by odious sights and smells. In Section 7, the Manual states that Providers have 90 calendar days from the original utilization management or claim denial to file a provider appeal. Important to both of these provisions is that the appeal time period does not commence until an EOP or claim denial is received by the Hospital. In this case, the only written notice the Hospital appears to have received from WellCare discussing its adjustment of the claim is the April 25, 2013 ERA. The ERA, however, showed no denied charges, but instead purported (incorrectly) to pay the entire claim at the contract rate. Pilot performance will be assessed by written tests and simulator sessions. This study will build on a previous field study, Pilots Flying Multiple Aircraft Types or Multiple Flightdeck Layouts, which was conducted for AVS 4504 Aviation Safety Analysis. The results of that study showed a need for a simulator study to further identify if pilots have issues maintaining currency in multiple types of aircraft. The following is a summary that is found in the Pilots Flying Multiple Aircraft Types or Multiple Flightdeck Layouts field study. (Raub, 2016) In aviation pilots rely heavily on muscle memory cognitive biases while flying. Once pilots become familiar with a certain aircraft or flight deck layout their hands will reach for controls without needing to look for them. Pilots will also develop certain cognitive biases in aircraft to help reduce their workload and increase mental capacity. The fact that both muscle memory and cognitive bias are handled in one s subconscious a pilot will not always be aware they are even occurring. Under part 121 pilots are limited to maintaining currency in one aircraft type. This could lead to safety issues

  • 42. Effects Of The Slave Trade On The Country s Oldest Cities... One of the country s oldest cities and the first capital of Brazil, from 1796 to 1888, Salvador de Bahia had witnessed successful blending of European, African and Indigenous cultures. From 1558, the first slave market in the New World, with slaves arriving to work on the sugar plantations and later tobacco fields, Salvador became the poster child for positive cultural assimilation. The slave trade, which lasted in Bahia until 1888 had a direct impact on the state today; large Afro Brazilian population and its European, African, and Indigenous blend of cultures. The widespread impact of the slave trade on the county s inhabitants, culture, and the economy proves that the slave trade in Salvador, Brazilled to more than an economical gain for the Portuguese. I argue that slave and race relations in Salvador, Brazil though atrocious had outcomes that remain vastly different from other colonized country s experience during this time racially, socially, and economically. Salvador, historically known as, SГЈo Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos translates to City of the Holy Savior of the Bay of all Saints, is the largest city on the northeast coast of Brazil and the capital of the Brazilian state of Bahia. The first colonial capital of Brazil, the city is one of the oldest in the Americas. Salvador is the third most populous Brazilian city, after SГЈo Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The African influence in many cultural aspects of the city makes it the center of Afro Brazilian
  • 43. Impact Of The Asian Financial Crisis Of 1997 On The Region... Examine the impact of the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 on the region s development Since World war II, development has been the most important term used to describe economic, social and political changes in what have come to be known as Third world countries (Zhang, 2003). The Asian financial crisis of 1997 had a major impact on the regions development as it was the end of the East Asian economic miracle, a time that showed staggering economic growth throughout the Asia Pacific. However, despite evidence that the economic development has slowed down within the region, it can be argued that the 1997 crisis encouraged intra regional co operation and collaboration, developing intra regional trade and encouraged the creation of ASEAN ... Garran (1998) argues that most countries affected failed to set up acceptable regulations and supervision that would have allowed capital markets to develop without risky imbalances. He states that countries over borrowed, over invested and over reached themselves . Although it can be argued that the entire region felt the effects of the crisis, some countries suffered more than others. According to Barro (2001) the countries mainly affected include Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand, this is because between July 1997 to early 1998 these countries experienced currency depreciations of more than 50%. In these countries, offshore nominal interest rates reached at least 25% at some point between June 1997 and January 1998. Real per capita GDP fell by 16% in Indonesia, 12% in Thailand, 10% in Malaysia, and 8% in South Korea, and 3% in the Philippines. He argues that China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan were much less affected by the crisis as they experienced depreciations of less than 25%, and nominal interest rates remained below 20%. The crisis resulted in the set back of over 30 years of strong economic and social development in the region, the loss of jobs caused riots, destruction and even death from poverty in the affected countries. • 44. The Collective Bargaining And Negotiation Process Almost everyone employed by a school district may participate in a collective bargaining unit or an organized group of job positions represented by an association. The association then participates in a joint decision making process, involving direct negotiations to determine wages, hours of work or other terms and conditions of employment for all employees in that unit. The collective bargaining process between a board of education and any association of united teachers, service personnel or administrators can have a wide range of effects for everyone involved in that district and community, especially the students. The regional school district being utilized for this review is that of a large regional school district, serving about 7,000 students in grades 9 through 12, in the largest county in the state. It is an affluent community of parents and community members from eight municipalities who recognize the value of education and actively support the schools. Historically, teachers, parents and administrators within the district have enjoyed a good, working relationship. As a result of this ongoing positive relationship, the collective bargaining and negotiation processes between the four associations in the district are relatively downplayed and quiet. Several associations negotiate collective bargaining agreements with the regional the local teacher s education association, public school employee association, district administrators association, and the
  • 45. The Nez Zealand Government Essay Topic 1 According to the Nez Zealand government, a company will only be considered as a company in New Zealand after it has been registered with the company s office which administers the register of companies In New Zealand. In New Zealand, a company must have at least one director who lives in New Zealand or lives in Australia and is a director of an Australian company. The directors are required to provide their date of birth, place of birth and sometimes they need to provide the details of their ultimate holding company. Unlike sole traders or partnerships, the company itself operates as a separate legal entity to its shareholders. It owns its assets and liabilities whereas a sole trader is liable for all the assets and liabilities directly. This feature of the companies is called limited liability, this means that shareholders in the company can only be liable and can only lose the value of their shares and not more than the value of their shares. However on the other hand, directors are liable for the debts incurred by the business if their conduct of the business is believed to be fraudulent, reckless and not in the company s interest. Lastly companies are taxed at the company tax rate which is 28% in New Zealand currently. The profits made by the company are taxed to the individuals. Having a company has a lot of advantaged mainly having an advantage accessing investments and also gaining more credibility and is more secure than having a sole trading
