Competition in the Movie Rental Industry in 2008: Netflix and Blockbuster Battle for
Market Leadership
2. What forces are driving changes in the movie rental industry and are the combined
impacts of these driving forces likely to be favorable or unfavorable in term of their
effects on competitive intensity and future industry profitability?
The economy is one of the reasons why rental industry went down. Less people are
able to rent a lot of movies.
Second and main reason that drives the change is Internet and streaming of video.
Suddenly on the market we have some companies they offer unlimited watching
movies for same price. One of them is Netflix.

City Of Boston Case Summary
1. Identify the various types of goods (private, public, and in between) involved in
this case. What was the primary objective being sought, and how was it being
financed? Explain the unintended consequences of the financing approach. Is that
financing approach appropriate for the type of good involved?
In the case involving the City of Boston and its residents, various types of goods
exist. The primary resource that is being debated in this case study is water. In this
instance, water is both a public and private good. It is public when the City of
Boston provides it and private when it is dispensed by a private well. Therefore, in
this situation, water has many different characteristics as it is both exclusion feasible

Charging the users of wells is justifiable as the city maintains the obligation of
disposing of the expended water. In the Boston case study, it was mentioned that
Legal Sea Foods uses a well capable of providing 15,000 gallons per day for laundry
and other uses. Levying a significant fee to dispose of and treat this water, as well as
charging a permit fee for installing a well, should dissuade people from leaving the
city s potable water
Teneligliptin Synthesis Essay
The first successful use of nosyl derivative of 4 hydroxyproline (12c) in
nucleophilic substitution with 1 (2 pyrimidyl)piperazine has been reported.ref
This activated nosyl derivative was used as intermediate during the synthesis of a
dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitor, PF 734200, now known as Gosogliptin. To our
delight, they adopted and executed similar route of synthesis for gosogliptin (PF
734200) as we have proposed in Scheme 2 for teneligliptin. Further, nosylate has
also been used on pilot plant scale in the alkylation of (R) glycidyl nosylate.ref
These reports suggested that Boc trans 4 hydroxy L proline methyl ester (12c) can
be activated in SN2 conditions by converting it into a nosyl derivative and this

Thus, adopting the same synthetic strategy for teneligliptin as described for PF
734200 by Pfizerref, optimization studies were carried out to improve the reaction
condition and overall yield. The major key difference between PF 734200 and
teneligliptin was in piperazinyl moiety, in PF 734200, piperazine is linked with
pyrimidine where as in teneligliptin it was connected to 3 methyl 1 phenylpyrazole
moiety. To know whether this structural difference in nucleophile may impact its
reactivity in SN2 conditions with different activated form of Boc trans 4 hydroxy L

Fast casual sits between the more traditional full service restaurants and the typical
fast food establishments. Like fast food, fast casual is typically ordered on a
counter and offers no table service. The atmosphere is generally a little bit more
upscale with a simple look, which can include plates or cutlery. Food is usually
prepared with mass produced food items, however considered to be higher quality
and often locally sourced with a wider selection of healthy options. The menu is the
same from location to location and mostly inexpensive.
According to National Restaurant Association the restaurant industry covers one
million fast food service locations in the U.S. and employs 14 million people.
Globally, fast food generates a revenue of over $570 billion and it is expected to
exceed $780 billion in 2016. Furthermore, the industry expects an annual growth of
2.5 percent for the next several years. The United States generated a revenue of $200

The Country s National Debt
Is it to be, or not to be? Frankly, if our nation does not strive towards a solution for
the National debt then it will not be . Some economist determined that the Country s
national debt is not an issue to panic over because the Nation will supposedly
continue as it does currently. However, the National Debt that the country has
reached is a problem that cannot be ignored or solve its self and vanish, it is a
problem that has to be addressed. Eventually the time will run out for the United
States to keep pushing the limit on the debt ceiling and then will be left without
options. Looks like it is back to finances 101. In 2015 the Government revenue was
approximately $3.18 trillion, but spent approximately $3.8 trillion. The government
has accumulated a massive amount of debt and interest from borrowing moneyfrom
other countries and the federal reserve. The evident problem is that spending is
more than revenue, thus, requiring the government to borrow and with interest of
course. Once a debt is owed it is not impossible to recover from if strict precautions
are taken to work towards paying it all back. However, those precautions have not
been taken by the government, but instead are ignored. The government keeps
borrowing without paying back the money that is borrowed and only pays on the
interest that is owed. For instance, if two dollars are borrowed with an interest of
one dollar and only that one dollar of interest is paid back then the debt will never be
paid off.
Cloud Computing Is The Best Option For The Libraries
Essay
The emerge of the cloud computing is becoming one of the most important virtual
technologies. Cloud computing enables organizations to solve more complex tasks
and services. The application of the cloud platform makes organizations more cost
effective and simplify complicated workloads. The development of this technology
has brought a dramatic change in every field. The use of the cloud computing in the
library system has achieved a significant success. Libraries have also started adopting
this technology, which involves delivering hosted service over the web. Managers
now spend less money on the development and procurement of computing resources
and peripherals. Cloud computing is the best option for the libraries to solve the
above mentioned problem. What is cloud computing? Cloud computing is a practice
of storing, collecting and sharing data and resources through web based tools. It
connects many computers together and forms a bigger computer. The biggest
characteristic of cloud technology is flexibility. This refers to the ability of system
adapting and scale to change in workload. Cloud computing can automatically
provision and deprovision information to ensure it satisfies the latest resource
demands (Interoute, What is Cloud Computing). There are different levels of security
and management requirements that fit almost all the companies. Cloud computing
can be private, public and hybrid. Private cloud computing is data from business

that 66% of third grade students lack the ability to draw conclusions and make
inferences to answer comprehension questions correctly. This was evident by the
state reading test scores, specifically the inference test given by their teacher. This
indicated a need for increased student achievement in making inferences and drawing
conclusions. Third grade students were not proficient at making inferences to gain a
deeper understanding of the texts read and thus answer open ended questions

totaling twenty points. This rubric was used to show the students what the
expectations were before they began writing their paper. The rubric was also used
by the teacher to score their final paper. Scores were tallied up and fifteen through

When James was young, there was a time that he was broke, and everyone around

cold. At that point most people would have got a job and a beanie, but not I . He

of girls all around the world were very interested when they found his clothes

James decided fatefully to make Black Milk exclusively into an online fashion
label. I talked to a few people in the industry who told me I was making a big
mistake and that I would go broke within the month. I was told that online selling
was only for companies with real shops. But real shops weren t interested in my
clothes, so I went online. As it turns out, it was a very good idea. :)

The Negative Effects Of Violence In The Media
Violence has been incorporated into the media over the past decades. Television,
movies, and video games all depict violence in many different ways. The scary truth
is that shootings, especially in schools, are occurring more often than they should.
Individuals are wondering what influenced young men like Dylan Klebold and Eric
Harris to go into a school and shoot innocent people; these two young men were the
Columbine High School shooters. People are also wanting to know why young men
like these two are going into schools and other public places with the mindset of
killing as many people as possible. Although, there are many factors that influenced
these people, media violenceis a key component of them. Violence in the media
negatively affects an individual s behavior.
According to psychology, violence is an extreme form of aggression. There are many
sources from which this behavior could come from. A few of these sources include
television, movies, and video games. These different aspects of the media are part
of our daily lives and can be accountable for educating society with positive and
unfortunately negative messages. The American Academy of Pediatrics (2000)
states, an average child will watch around 28 hours of television a week, play an
hour of video game or surface, and multiple hours watching movies and videos. This
is almost the equivalent of how long a child spends in school each week. Allowing
children to spend this much time viewing and playing these
What Role Did Religion Play In The 1640s
Q: Why did the English king and Parliament quarrel in the 1640s? What were the
most important issues behind the war between them, and who bears more
responsibility for it? What was the Glorious Revolution, and why did it take place?
What role did religion play in the seventeenth century English politics? Do you think
the victory of Parliament over the monarchy in Englandwas inevitable?
A: King Charles I and Parliament quarreled because the king had been ignoring
Parliaments voice for some time. So once the king decided he needed money for
his war in Scotland, but tired of the king s bullying, Parliament refused to support
Charles until he resolved many political and religious offenses. King Charles I really
held a lot of the blame here because
Ancient Land Of Canaan Analysis
The ancient land of Canaan, located in the Middle East, has been promised to many
different people, and in result, has been ruthlessly fought over. After the Holocaust,
Great Britain split the land in half, giving one part to the Palestinians who had lived
there for many years, and the rest to the Israelis who had been there since the
beginning of monotheistic religion. The boundaries have constantly changed, due to
constant fighting and wars. The Israelis believe the land is rightfully theirs, because
it was the birthplace of their religion. The Proclamation of the State of Israelsays, The
land of Israelwas the birthplace of the Jewish people. Here their spiritual, religious
and national identity was formed (Document 12) . The Israelis
The Hero Cycle Of Beren And Luthien
The Hero Cycle: Beren The Hero Cycle ties together all heros. It is a literary
concept that illustrates the same pattern that almost all heros, from Beowulf to
Harry Potter, follow. This cycle also connects genres, no matter how different,
together in its most basic form. Sci Fi, Fantasy, Mystery, etc. However, the genre
most associated to the Hero Cycle is fantasy, partly due to the Hero Cycles origins
coming from fairy tale and old myths/epics of ancient days. Even modern fantasy has
its stake on the Cycle itself. To share an example, one connected to the founding
literary works of modern fantasy, is the Tale of Berenand Luthien. The Tale of Beren
and Luthien is one of the chief cornerstones of Tolkien s Legendarium. The main...

Finrod thanked the human by gifting him his royal ring, pledging an oath to
Barahir s family line. Much of Beren s early manhood was fighting alongside these
outlaws, being lead by his father until him and his men died, leaving Beren to
wander the land alone, barring only the ring of Finrod afterwards. Fighting, war and
wandering with father and crew is all that Beren new, but with the lost of his closest
kin he was set adrift.
The Call of Adventure is the second step within the Hero Cycle and Beren s call is
quite the invitation. Wandering aimlessly into the forest Dungortheb, Beren falls
entranced to the fairey like, elven princess Luthien, daughter of an elven king and
a maia, or demigod. WIth her beauty greatest of all things, Beren was love struck
and called for the dancing maiden, naming her Tinuviel as he called for her. She
turned to him and it was instant love, though a secret one. She, an immortal, and
him, mortal, meant their love could not last and be of error, as well as her royal
father not being pleased. This is the closest we get to the Refusal of the Call, being
one of few divergences with the Cycle and the story. This is due to the fact that Beren
never hesitates to follow any ungodly task to win Luthien s hand in marriage, and is
quite literally stated that he felt no hesitation. The fact that their love could not be,
and keeping it secret, was the only hesitation displayed throughout the
Hell In The Gospel Of John, And St. Thomas Aquinas
Hell is recognized as an extremely difficult doctrine for many to accept, due to its
nature of opposing the very notion of a benevolent God. Although God grants the
gift of mercy and infinite love to all, a soul can be damned to Hell due to the gift of
free will and the rejection of God s love. In the teachings and works of the Bible, the
Catechism of the Catholic Church, and St. Thomas Aquinas, the interpretation of
Heaven and its counterpart Hell are found in their attempt to explain the contradictory
essence of Gods altruistic love and the potential of eternal punishment. It has been
clearly denoted that the Gift of God s free will is the primary reason for one
condemning themselves to Hell or entering the Kingdom of God in Heaven. God s...

In chapters five and seven of the Book of Matthew, it reveals that some may not be
granted entrance to the Kingdom of Heaven after facing judgment. An analogy is
made that the good tree of heaven cannot possibly bear bad fruit just like a bad tree
cannot bear that of good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut
down and thrown into the fire. So by their fruits you will know them (Matthew 7:
19 20) indicating the tradition view of Hell being a dark, fiery, pit of depraved
spirits. In the Gospel of Mark, Hell is referred to as Gehenna which is a term
associated in Hebrew scripture that dictates it a place of the wicked. Hell is a place
where God s judgment has inscribed the sin filled life upon one s spirit. In the
Gospel of Luke, Hell is referred to as a place where sinners are perished . In the
parable of the rich man and lazarus, the rich man whom deemed to hell requests to
warn his brothers of the afterlife, Then Abraham said, If they will not listen to
Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise
from the dead (Luke 16: 31). This draws a similar comparison to the rejection of
Jesus s resurrection in the greatest sacrifice to repent for all humankind s sins. God
grants the gift of mercy and infinite love to all, but a soul can be condemned to Hell
due to their free will and the
Traditional Solar Cells Advantage And Applications
Traditional solar cells advantage and applications Solar cells technology, as a clean
power source of new generation, has been great developed in the past 35 years. The
market needed for this for the solar cells technology is also greatly increased while
module cost is decreased.
However, around 80 percent of all the solar panels sold around the world is
traditional solar cells, because of their efficiency for residential use. The
applications for traditional solar cells are still dominant in the area. And here are
some main types of traditional solar cells and their applications. Monocrystalline
silicon cells Mono crystalline silicon cell technology is the oldest solar cell
technology, but it s still the most popular and efficient solar cell technology
nowadays. The monocrystalline silicon module is made from a single silicon
crystal; it is usually complex and huge. And its color is usually blue or black. As
the earliest solar cell technology, it has a lot of advantages that s make it still
popular in the area. One of the most important one is its longevity, some websites
indicate that the single crystalline solar panels can last up to 50 years, until 2015,
some panels are still doing their duties after 40 years. Even though the panel will
suffer an efficiency drop as time goes by, it is still a very reliable in the long run. Its
efficiency is another big advantage; single crystalline cells can convert the highest

Comparing Enuma Elish And Mesopotamian Creation Myth
Nearly every culture has a creation myth to explain the unknown wonders of the
world, such as how the world came to be and how humans came to exist on earth.
Creation myths paint a picture for the confused and answer question for the curious
minds of its people. These stories have influence on its believers and tied into their
religionand how they go about their life. There are many creation mythsthat give
credit to different divine beings for creating everything. All of the creation myths are
different in their own way but many of them share signification ideas and themes.
The Mesopotamian myth, Enuma Elish, is similar to the Egyptian creation myths,
Creation by Atum and Theology of Memphis, because of their use of chaotic water

creation myths show similarities between the two areas of people despite their

If I could write an Immigration Act for today it would state that immigration would

Character Representation
In the film that we watched in class, many of the characters portray or represent
something in real life. Starting off with the mice in the beginning of the movie or
Fible s family. They represent a major group of people who immigrated to this
country during the time of immigration, the Jews. The reason that they immigrate to
America is because they are fleeing the cats, and supposedly there are no cats in
America. The reason that they are fleeing from the cats is because the cats represent
oppression and the Russians. The pigeons represent the French and they are building
the Statue of Liberty, in the beginning of the movie. Fible s mouse friend, Tony, is
Italian, and the other mouse friend, she is Irish.
The Death Penalty And The Fifth Amendment Summary
In the article The Death Penalty and the Fifth Amendment written by Joseph Blocher,
several concepts surrounding the death penalty and its relation to the Fifth
Amendment. Blocher is a law professor at Duke University. His academic interests
include constitutional law, the First and Second Amendments, capital punishment, and
property rights.
Blocher notes a particular argument: the death penalty must be constitutional because
the Fifth Amendment clearly allows it. However, Blocher takes a side on the issue
and explains reasons why this is not necessarily true. One of those reasons is that the
death penalty was allowed and constitutional at the time the Constitution was being
written. The author comes to the conclusion that there may be good arguments for
the constitutionality of the death penalty, but the Fifth Amendment is not one of
them. Throughout the article Blocher explains his reason for believing that the Fifth
Amendment does not supply enough evidence to support the use of the death penalty.
However, Blocher also includes evidence that supports opinions that people who
disagree with him may have. He writes: Justice Scalia argued that the Fifth
Amendment afforded a textual basis for the capital punishment s continued
constitutionality: The reason is obvious: It is impossible to hold unconstitutional that
which the Constitution explicitly contemplates. The Fifth Amendment provides that
[n]o person shall be held to answer for a capital . . . crime, unless on a
Andy Warhol s Telephone
To complete my project I decided to visit the museum of contemporary art. The
piece I m going to focus on is Andy Warhol s Telephone, which was painted in
1961. I had already chosen to do my essay on this piece because I d been interested
in Warhol and his overarching themes of consumerism and product idolization in
America. Although this piece isn t blatantly judging America and its materialistic
mentality, I like the commentary he was attempting to make about traditional and
modern forms of art. Upon first seeing this piece I was taken aback by its size. I d
seen a photo of the work on MOCA s website, but to see it in person truly was a
different experience. When I began to really look at it, I noticed how clean cut all
the lines were and made the assumption that Warhol had used silk screening as he
did in many of his pieces. However, when I read the description on the side and
found out he hand painted it I was extremely surprised. There aren t any visible
brush strokes, the lines are clean and the colors look so solid. Instead of depicting a
modern telephone of his time he illustrated one that could be decades old. This is a
painting that because of its subject material and creation method, could ve been...

Just by looking at it most would assume he used silk screening like I had assumed.
This could stem back to Warhol s constant attempts to make his audience believe
that his work meant less than it really did. He was hiding the meaning by making it
look like his other pieces in that aspect. Just another piece to be visually consumed
by his audience. It wasn t meant to be analyzed, only enjoyed. This also thought
this could mean that even if a piece of art is hand drawn people don t appreciate
that form of art as much as they used to. Art is art and the method is no longer a tool
for judging value or artistic ability, so conspicuously displaying the techniques he
used was an unnecessary waste of

psychology. This will consist of the key assumptions, examples of the relevant
psychologists and examples of their work, as well as an exploration into the
advantages and disadvantages that some of these approaches possess.
Behaviourism is a theory of learning based upon the idea that all behaviours are
attained through conditioning. Behaviourists believe conditioning occurs when we
interact with the environment and that the environment we are in determines the way
we respond to a stimulus. The behaviourist approach believes we learn behaviours
through association between response and consequence. For instance, by touching a
hot iron you will feel pain. Therefore, we learn from this, and know not to touch a
hot iron as we associate feeling pain as a consequence of this action. There are two
forms of conditioning within the behaviourist approach; classical conditioning and
operant conditioning. Behaviourists believe that individuals are born without built in
mental content, known as a blank slate and that all behaviours arise from experience
or perception.
Classical conditioning says that we learn behaviours by associating the response to
the stimulus. An example of this can be found from the work of Ivan Pavlov. In the
1890s Pavlov, a Russian physiologist, carried out some experiments with a dogs. He
noticed that when a dog eats food, they salivate: this is an unconditional response to

The Suffrage Movement Of The United States
The suffrage movement has entailed a long history of fighting for equality. Many
organizations have developed, along with numerous campaigns and protests. The
suffrage movement in the United States has dated back to the early 1840 s. During
this time, Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton organized the Seneca Falls
Convention. Shortly after in 1951, Susan B. Anthonyjoined the two previously states
activists and they founded the Women s National Loyal League (WNLL) in the main
attempt to abolish slavery and gain full citizenship for African Americans and
women. Shortly after slavery was abolished, Anthony and Stanton formed the
National Women Suffrage Association (NWSA), in 1869. This was delegated as
being a more radical organization compared to the American Women Suffrage
Association, founded by Lucy Stone, Julia Ward Howe, and Josephine Ruffin.
However, by 1890 these two organizations decided they would be more effective if
they joined to form just one prominent organization: the National American Women
Suffrage Association (NAWSA) ( Women s Suffrage Movement ).
After several years of Stanton as president of NAWSA, Carrie Chapman Catt took
over this position in 1900 and served as president until 1904 and again in 1915
through 1926. Catt is said to be the driving force [behind] the organization ( Women s
Suffrage Movement ). During her time as president, she made multiple contributions
to encourage equality. According to Emily Droege, she quickly became recognized as
The Somatosensory System
Sensation is the input about the physical world that s obtained by the sensory
receptors. There are 5 primary human senses: sight, smell, taste, and touch and each
are perceived through our eyes, ears, nose, hands, mouth, etc.
Sight is the ability for our eyes to focus and detect visible light on the preceptors in
our eyes which then create nerve impulses for features like color, brightness, and
etc. There are 2 types of photoreceptors; rods, which are responsible for our ability
to see in dim light and cones, which are responsible for our ability to see in bright
light, image clarity, and more. The photoreceptors transduce light into electrical
signals that can be sent to the brain for further processing. Some neuroanatomists
consider the ability of each photoreceptor as type of sensation by itself.

Our sense of touch is controlled by a huge network of nerve endings and touch
receptors in the skin known as the somatosensory system. This system is responsible
for all the sensations we feel. Within the somatosensory system, there are four main
types of receptors: mechanoreceptors, pain receptors, thermoreceptors, and
proprioceptors. Mechanoreceptors decipher sensations such as pressure, vibrations,
and texture. The thermoreceptors are responsible for perceiving the temperature of
objects we touch. Pain receptors do exactly as they are named, they are responsible
for detecting the feeling of pain. Finally, proprioceptors sense the position of the
different parts of the body in relation to each other and the surrounding environment.
When your hand touches an object, the mechanoreceptors in the skin are activated,
and they start a chain of events by signaling to the nearest neuron that they touched
something until the message reaches the brain, and causes a reaction (Pediaopolis

The Issue Of Protection Is Needed For The World Today
The generation in today society has to understand that protection is needed for the
world today because the people need to feel safe and comfortable. In every state,
the requirement of protection is considered a law and is different extremely in each
50 state. Most people abide by the protection law because it s the ethical decision to
do, but some people do the opposite for their own egocentric reasons. In Mississippi
(American), consumers have protection from unscrupulous sellers and adequate
information to make wise marketplace choices (Norrgard, 1988, p.61). A young

Final Movement Research Paper
Final Movement Reflection
When I first started movement class in January, I already had a good connection
with my body. However, I knew there was still a lot of work to be done. The most
valuable lessons I learned during the course, though there were many, were to not
work so hard with my body, to be more aware of my day to day, and the power of
understanding yourself.
As a student with a business background, I tend to want to work hard. Before
taking movement this semester, I would occasionally notice my posture, and
correct it to something more proper. For example, I noticed how I keep my head
forward, or how I would overuse my lower back muscles. This was, however, where
my body awareness ended. On the first day of class, Val got us to... Show more

I said I would make it my purpose to walk with back body every time I came from
the train to school. When I first started, I had a lot of trouble. I would be aware of
my back body, then after a couple steps I would revert back to old habits. It was a
constant battle between awareness and unconsciousness. Val pointed it out that it
is similar to meditation; you always have to bring back awareness. As time went
on I found that I could walk with back body for longer. However, I did end up
walking slower. I assumed that I was relearning to walk, so I would have to start
slow. The interesting thing was that the awareness of back body expanded beyond
my walk to school. Eventually, I started to walk with back body through hallways,
or I would remember to use back body when I was sitting. Moreover, I started to
remember to use the Alexander Technique more often in my everyday life. At this
point in the semester, I am getting more and more consistent with my practice.
However, when I am busy, it tends to slip away. This practice is another big part of
why I m feeling less tense in troubled areas. I believe an actor must practice
awareness and their scales every day. This will allow for better habits to form.
Therefore, when it comes time to act, this work will happen

Heart Failure and Western Countries Essay

Heart failure is a major cause of morbidity and mortality affecting all Western
countries and represents a significant economic, social and healthcare burden.(1)
Approximately 1 2% of the population of the developed world has been diagnosed
with clinically significant heart failure, a gross underestimation. (2) Depending on
how the condition is defined, recent population studies estimate that between 3% and
9% of the adult population are affected by overt symptoms of heart failure.(3) An
additional and similar proportion of individuals surveyed exhibit a pre clinical silent
left ventricular dysfunction. (3) The incidence of which rises sharply among persons

Systolic and Diastolic Heart Failure
The pathophysiolgy underlying heart failure has evolved significantly over time. The
heart may be visualised as a pump, consisting of four chambers divided into atria and
ventricles further divided into right and left hemispheres.(14) Deoxygenated blood
from peripheral tissues is supplied through the right atria/ventricle to the lungs where
oxygenation through membranous perfusion occurs. Oxygenated blood returns
through the pulmonary veins into the left atria/ventricle where it is supplied to the
systemic/coronary circulation. This process occurs in two phases; systole and
diastole. (14)
Heart failure may affect either the systolic or diastolic phase of the cardiac cycle.
Alternatively, both phases may be involved. Conceptually it is useful to view this
heterogenous condition as a progressive disorder that has an initiating or index
event where damage is inflicted on the cardiac myocytes.(15) The index event can
be acute, such as may be the case in myocardial infarct, or chronic due to
haemodynamic pressure or volume overloading. Regardless of the mechanism of
injury a decline in pump function is the result. The initial insult will be compensated
for in the acute phase by activation of a complex sequence of neurohormonal
changes which are recognised to play a pivotal role in the development and
progression of heart failure.(15) Whilst

Outside these developments, other pressures such as patriarchal prejudices and caste
/class biases impinge upon the functioning of the State and its agencies. These
questions assume greater significance in situations where those arraigned for trial
are functionaries and agents of the State itself. Evidences related to the 1984 anti
Sikh massacre in Delhi, the 1992 anti Muslim violence in Mumbai and the 2002 state
sponsored genocide in Gujarat have all convincingly named and shown public
servants in the role of perpetrators, conspirators and abettors in serious crimes
including murder, rape and arson. Can a Public Prosecutor functioning within the
present system discharge the onerous burden of bringing such persons to book? Does
this not make the case for greater autonomy for the prosecution to enable it to act
freely and outside the executive? This project examines institutional and statutory
checks and balances in the present legal system that enable the prosecutor to function
independently uninfluenced by politics. The adequacy of these checks and the need
for increased autonomy are key concerns of the project. This project also looks at
the pathetic state of infrastructure and facilities available to Public Prosecutors. It is
paradoxical that although the rhetoric of a hard state is propounded by parties of all

An Analysis of Common Sense Essay
As the year 1776 began in the American colonies, tension with King George III s
England was at perhaps an all time high. Americans were frustrated with the actions
of their rulers overseas. Taxes and trade restrictions had been placed on them, and
British and mercenary soldiers occupied their towns and cities. There had even been
fighting at Lexington, Concord, and BunkerHill. As America grew, England s hold on
it tightened, and a few voices began speaking of independence. The loudest and most
convincing of these belonged to Thomas Paine, born in England and living in
Philadelphia. His pamphlet, Common Sense, expressed the argument for American
independencein a way no one had before and had a great influenceon the Declaration

It claims all monarchs are despots, cut off from their people and craving for
absolute power. Male and female are the distinctions of nature, Paine wrote, good
and bad the distinctions of heaven; but how a race of men came into the world so
exalted above the rest . . . is worth enquiring into (Paine 9). Government is a
necessary evil, a badge of lost innocence, that tends to get in the way of civilized
society. Modern civilizations should organize themselves into local, self governing
societies with only representational government, suggested Paine, not an all powerful
monarch. Of more worth is one honest man to society, and in the sight of God, than
all the crowned ruffians that ever lived (Paine 17). Paine went on to speak in more
conventional terms about the specific nature of the conflict. He had anticipated that
readers would be startled by his conclusions, and defended against possible objections.
Uncertainty in the British Empire, some caused by disturbances in America, was bad
for commerce. England would continue to drag Americans into European wars that
were not their affair, said Paine, and protect them only when beneficial to themselves.
Americans would not require their protection; they already had the means to defend
their land. Distance and poor communication across the Atlantic made the centers of
government remote from the colonists. Common Sense stressed the need for and the
power of unity among the American
Persuasive Technology Is Important For Defining The...
Persuasive technology is the computing technology that encourages a social influence
mechanism, or a form of interaction that aims at changing the way people behave or
think [XXX]. The persuasive technology archetype is important for defining the
interaction structures of systems supporting behavioural change. Fogg [XX] lists the
core concepts of persuasive technology as: (1) an attempt to change attitudes or
behaviour or both without coercion or deception, (2) a focus on human computer
interaction, (3) a focus on planned persuasive effects, (4) a focus on endogenous or
built in persuasive intent, which means that a system is intentionally designed to
persuade, and (5) persuasion that may take place at either the macro or the micro...

These methodologies integrate persuasion strategies as described by Fogg, i.e.
simplifying of tracking and reinforcement. Both strategies are employing an
underlying feedback loop by mirroring back the recorded behaviour. The
simplification of tracking give the interpretation of the data to the user, but by
capturing the right data, e.g. plotting sports activities vs. weight, some behaviours
can be sustained. Fogg [XXX] has also suggested some key persuasion principles on
designing effective persuasive technologies or methodologies, which include
reduction, tunnelling, tailoring, suggestion, self monitoring, surveillance and
conditioning. To briefly explain these principles so that some content can be more
easily understood later in the thesis. Reduction means using technology to simplify
complex tasks and the goal of this strategy is to let the desired behaviour more
tempting by reducing the difficulties and to make it easier for the user. Tunnelling is
to provide guidance to the user by guiding the user through a predefined sequence of
activities, and this strategy is being well applied in current design and implementation
of general mobile applications. Tailoring lets the general public use personalized and
individually relevant information to change attitudes or behaviour or both of them.
Tailoring is known as one of
Manipulation In Shakespeare s Othello Essay
Manipulation is one of; if not the greatest strength Iago has to offer in his friendship
to Othello. Due to his position he is able to accomplish much in the art of deception
and ultimately succeeds in bringing destruction to Othello s life. Through his
expertise in applied psychology he is able to convince a handful of people to act on
their own intensified emotions and insecurities. In this way, his manipulation is
tactfully accomplished. However, this deceitfulness would not have been as

Iago does a fine job of using psychology to control situations within the play. He is
one of the best representations of evil in any of Shakespeare s plays. Perhaps what
makes Iago most terrifying is that he is fearless in speech and full of pride. He
intentionally manipulates the handkerchiefs original symbol of purity to one that
is stained with jealousy and insecurity. He seems to be comprised of two of the
most significant traits of what constitutes an evil character. Grace Williams argues
these traits by saying: The first of these is the fact that perfectly sane people exist
in whom fellow feeling of any kind is so weak that an almost absolute egoism
becomes possible to them, and with it those hard vices such as ingratitude and
cruelty which to Shakespeare were far the worst. The second is that such evil is
compatible, and even appears to ally itself easily, with exceptional powers of will
and intellect (William, 87). Iago, in this way conforms to this evilness and his
intelligence matched with his intense desire of ill will towards Othello lends to his
success. The different symbols for which the handkerchief embraces helps aid Iago s
plans for the destruction of Othello coming to

Economic Inequality And The Consequences Of Poverty
Furthermore, the consequences of inequality are pretty broad and common sense.
There will always be a gap between the rich and the poor. Also known as economic
inequality setting boundaries within a society. Some consequences of this inequality
are stifling growth, increases in political inequality and increases in crime. Stifles
growth meaning if the high level of inequality is high it will increase poverty, which
will lead to escalation of crime. This will set burdens on the economy and will
perhaps cause an increase in food expenses and a decrease in society s incomes. Then
the growth of the government starts to drop, which doe not affect the rich because
they maintain their position. However, it greatly affects the poor. This ties to
increasing economic political instability.
Political instability is crucial to our government s well being. As mentioned in the
book, The Golden Rule : He who makes the gold makes the rules (Mooney 192).
When wealth is brought together by individuals who are well off they tend to
influence political decisions so it plays out in their favor. This is also known as
plutocracy. An example would be oil companies funding a politician s campaign to
favor them in the long run. It s a shame that this is how our politicians are given
into legal and corrupt decisions. Leaving the middle class and poor without a say
about their political views. The blue collar workers are less likely to participate in
politics because they lack education while

Organisational culture is a source of competitive advantage and according to
education portal (2015), organisational culture is defined as a shared system of
assumptions, values and beliefs, which governs how people behave in organisations .
These shared values will influence how employees of the organisation will perform,
act and dress. Furthermore, Every organisation develops and maintains a unique
cultureand this will create guidelines for how members of the organisation will

organisational culture as an organisation s personality . The IAEA also states that
culture is not only important for keeping organisational goals, but it appeals to
attracting and keeping desirable employees which in turn improves the company s
public image and the company s cooperate relationships.
In order to further support my answer, this essay will explain and discuss the models
and theories of organisational culture. This essay will also link these models and
theories to two UK based companies to authenticate the models and theories.
Bosch (2015) is an example of a UK based company that knows the importance of
organisational culture. The company claims their corporate culture makes [them]

Hemingway Literary Devices
Writers use several literary devices to when creating their stories, writers like Ernest
Hemingway incorporates symbolism, theme, and imagery. Hemingway focuses only
on the surface of the components without clearly exposing the theme. Most of his
short stories are similar to one another. Two of the short stories written in the 1920 s
are very different but had a lot of similarities that made them relate to each other. The
short storyHills like White Elephants and Cat In The Rain are the two stories that
relate to each other in various ways. Hills Like White Elephants is about a couple
that is facing an unexpected pregnancy and deciding whether to keep the baby or
not. Cat In The Rain is about an unstable couple that has lack of love... Show more

This literary device helps understand the importance of ideas by taking out details
and replacing it with symbols. It can be hard identifying symbols because of the
way the story might be written. In Hills Like White Elephants the story s dialogue
made it a bit hard to understand some of the symbols being used because of how
well they were interpreted in the story. There are many symbols that represent
much more than what is explicitly stated. The first symbols are the hills
representing Jigs fertility and pregnancy, and the American and how he sees the
pregnancy as a white elephant; a present that he doesn t want. In the story states,
The girl looked across the hills. They re lovely hills, she said. They don t look like
white elephants (Hemingway). Meaning that Jig actually saw a brighter future with
the baby, opposed to what the American is negatively saying. The next symbol is the
train station and how that represents an important decision to be made. It s a
midpoint between the present time and their future, whether they should keep the
baby or not, either to take the train or stay. Being between two worlds, and
differences. As well as the luggage having traveling stickers on them can symbolize
the journey that they ve been taking and where they are now. Where as in Cat in The
Rain he is using rain to symbolize sadness, because it often used as a negative effect.

fields like people in the construction industry. An experienced car wreck attorney
knows what it takes to win and how to get the best deal for their clients. They
know what to expect and what questions to ask. Plus they know what information
is required to help you win your case. Pay for performance A car wreck attorney

unless you win. Plus if they take your case on these terms, it means they believe
you have a good chance of winning. The fee is typically based on a percentage of
what you win. The fee s can be from 10 to 40 percent. If your attorney see s your
case as being complicated, then he or she may ask for more. Put extra expenses in

cost may be to check driving records and investigating the accident scene. If any
additional cost is required, it should be deducted from your fees once the case is

The government uses the principles of social justice, considers the cost for the

the impact of occurrences of the condition or disease. The condition Arthritis was the
seventh disease to be selected by NHPA, this choice was due to evidence based
information in 2002 by the Australian Health Ministers ( Australian Institute Of
Health And Welfare,2017). Arthritis conditions are large contributors to the NHPA
due to the pain, illness, and disability caused in Australia, disability being the biggest.
Disability can restrict a lot of things ranging from work, day to day routine,
housework, activities, and sports etc, increasing costs and economic consequences
such as medical treatments and physio. In 2011 2012 an estimated 6.1 million
people, 28% of the world s population has arthritis, more than 3.1 million Australians
were estimated to be affected by arthritis in 2007 2008(Australias Health Gov,2013).

Commerce Bank Essay
Executive Summary
Commerce Bank was founded in 1973 by Vernon Hill II who took his experience in
operating fast food restaurants and applied it to banking. He decided to call his
branches stores and developed a business model focused on maximizing customer
convenience and delivering consistently great customer experiences.
Commerce Bank invested heavily in store facilities and personnel to make the
customer experience great and did not focus on having the best rates. To increase
convenience, stores were kept open seven days a week and hours were extended in
the mornings and evenings. Also, customers were able to get instant ATM cards, and
funds from their deposits would be credited either the same day or the next day. For
fun, the bank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Analysis
Commerce Bank has built its operation on the premise that core banking services
can be enhanced by introducing the element of retail experience which they
termed as retailtainment. Commerce Bank believed that when customers can pay
$6 for a cup of coffee at Starbucks just because of the retail experience, by the same
token customers of the bank should be willing to accept lower interest on the
deposits if they are provided with the experience which the customer valued.
Commerce Bank, through its retailtainment approach, emphasized a customer
centric culture. Some of the services offered for the sole purpose of customer
satisfaction were (1) fast daily branch operations (2) convenient teller transactions
(3) coffee and newspaper while in queue (4) elimination of fees for the ATM and
check card (5) phone at the bank s ATM machines if customers need to reach the
call center (6) check view feature on the bank s website and (7) a penny arcade at
branches.
One of the important advantages of retailtainment is that the customer is willing to
spend more time in the banks premises and is not too much concerned about the
waiting time. Commerce Bank envisaged a multitude of benefits emerging from this
kind of customer experience. This meant that such experience will lead to:
a) Increased traffic.
b) Retention of the customers which gets translated into higher lifetime value

Stereotypes In Films
In today s films, perceptions of women haven t changed much. Nancy Signorielli
has a case study that looked at popular films today and how young girls are
portrayed in them. Signorieilli coded the top 25 films for girls 12 17 in 1995 to
look for traits that the characters were portraying and the situations they were in. She
found from her study that girls in these films were 20 30% more likely to be talking
about romance, doing genderstereotyped chores, dating, talking about friends and
clothes, on the phone, grooming, talking about the opposite sex, in class, shopping
and working out. The men in these movies are 25% more likely to be working. In
addition to looking at what these characters are doing, they also looked at the type of
behavior they exhibit during the films. From the study they found that girls were 10
20% more likely to be honest, crying or whining, flirting, compromising, follow
intuition, and be seductive as Signorielli found in her research. From this they found
that the men were more intelligent, more threatening and intimidating, more
hardworking, more risk taking, and use physical force more. From this study it can
be seen that these negative perceptions of women are still similar to the period of...

Theme Of The Carousel In Something Wicked This Way
Comes
Sometimes the man who looks happiest in town, with the biggest smile, is the one
carrying the biggest load of sin. There are smiles and smiles; learn to tell the dark
variety from the light. (Bradbury 135) Written in 1962, Ray Bradbury s Something
Wicked This Way Comes is a fantasy fiction novel which depicts the mysterious
experience two teenage boys encounter one October night in Green Town, Illinois.
Within Something Wicked This Way Comes, Ray Bradbury utilizes symbolism of the
carousel in order to reveal the primary theme:beware of even the most innocent
things, for they can be so nefarious.
To begin with, the author incorporates the carousel as a symbol of evil disguised as
innocence. In reality, the carousel is a distortion which represents the fears and
desires wicked people feed off of in order to acquire ultimate power. In the novel, the
author often refers to the carousel since it is almost portrayed as a vault which is
constantly revolving and depending on the innocent who succumb to the dark side
when their greatest fears are put to the test. According to Bud Martin, we are drawn
in and root for children because their security is being encroached upon, and it is
their love and innocence that both can make them victims and save them, in the end.
The carousel is by far the most powerful and important symbol within and throughout
the novel because it is considered the powerhouse or main source of energy which
thrives solely on the souls of the weak and naive who
Argumentative Essay On Black Power
Through the mid 1900 s, the black movement began in hopes of creating a better
future around a certain view that was based around social and political aspects. The
Black Power movement came about due to the fact that over the recent years, non
violent actions were not combatting racism and advocators of this movement wanted
to start seeing results. The main purpose of this was because blacks had simple,
humane requests to end racismand give everyone equal opportunity. After
researching there was a passage that fit perfectly into describing the overall view of
the movement and how there was a direct controversy.. The controversy over Black
Powerreflected and perpetuated a split in the civil rights movement between
organizations that maintained that nonviolent methods were the only way to achieve
civil rights goals and those organizations that had become frustrated and were ready
to adopt violence and black separatism . (). When looking at both Stokely Carmichael
and Dr. King s views there can be contrasts on both including some viewing King s
view as outdated with little change and Carmichael as turning their beliefs into a
racially integrated society that some did not agree with.
The black power movement was also known as black nationalism which in other
words meant that there was advocacy for the racial redefinition for African
American citizens. The first person who claimed the term, black power and used it
in a social and racial term was Stokely Carmichael. It was
How Does Sports Dress Codes Shame Girls And
Perpetuate...
How does somebodies attire effects other people s judgments of them? More
specifically, how does attire of women influences others judgments? These are
questions that take root from evolving problems in the world today. It is hard to
give an honest answer because it is an opinionated argument. However, appropriate
attire policies is a growing problem for society, there is a growing demand for
equality in maleand femaleattire. The argument is expressed in an article written by
Laura Bates called, How School Dress Codes Shame Girls and Perpetuate Rape
Culture . The problem is that women are expected to dress in a way that is socially
acceptable. Socially acceptable means that, females must dress in a way that
protects and covers the female anatomy. This argument that Bates explains,
expresses a pathos appeal because you are allowed to understand the point of view
of those who have been victimized by dress codes. The article also gives an ethos
appeal because the article makes a person question their morale value. Questioning
whether dress codes are equal or unjust and sexist. Reading the argumentative peace
it is obvious that Bates stands against sexist dress codes.
The article speaks on why school systems incorporate a dress code policy. One reason
was to protect young ladies from teachers and students from taking advantage of
them. There are many cases that which a teacher may have been attracted to a female
student. The teacher would be inclined to make a move to pursue
Ketoconazole Case Study Essay
Ketoconazole, the initial drug of choice, is administered at initial doses of 200mg
at least two to three times daily with dose adjustments based on 24 hour urine free
cortisol levels. Ketoconazole inhibits cytochrome P 450 enzymes, including 11 beta
hydroxylase and 17 alpha hydroxylase, thus, resulting in decreased level of cortisol.
Its fast onset of action allows monitoring of serum cortisol within several weeks. It
also has antiandrogenic activity which may be beneficial in women but may lead to
gynecomastia and decreased libido in men. Ketoconazole uses in patients require that
liver function be monitored closely due to its ability in causing idiosyncratic
reversible hepatic dysfunction and elevation of aminotransferase levels. Therefore,
individuals on therapy with Ketoconazole should be free from hepatitis and if
currently diagnosed should cease its usage.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Also, significant medication interactions may occur due to Ketoconazole s potent
inhibitory effects on the cytochrome P450 enzymes, particularly CYP3A4, CYP2C9,
and CYP1A2. The CYP3A4 substrates include most benzodiazepines aside from
lorazepam; many calcium channel blockers such as nifedipine and verapamil; 3
hydroxy 3 methyl glutaryl CoA reductase inhibitors, aside from pravastatin and
fluvastatin; and pimozide, generally contraindicating their use. The CYP2C9
substrates include fluoxetine, glipizide, losartan, montelukast, phenytoin, and
warfarin. The CYP1A2 substrates include mirtazapine, ropinirole, and theophylline.
Sildenafil, tadalafil, and vardenafil concentrations may also be increased. The
CYP3A4 inducers such as aminoglutethimide, carbamazepine, and phenytoin may
decrease ketoconazole levels, and as ketoconazole absorption depends on gastric
acidity, histamine 2 recepter blockers and proton pump inhibitors should be
Margo Roth Spiegelman s Miracle
The way I figure it, everyone gets a miracle. Like, I will probably never be struck by
lightning, or win a
Nobel Prize, or become the dictator of a small nation in the Pacific Islands, or
contract terminal ear can cer, or spontaneously combust. But if you consider all the
unlikely things together, at least one of them
will probably happen to each of us. I could have seen it rain frogs. I could have
stepped foot on Mars. I
could have been eaten by a whale. I could have married the queen of England or
survived months at sea.
But my miracle was different. My miracle was this: out of all the houses in all the

I could tell that she was holding a little notebook and a pencil with teeth marks

My Career Choice The new graduates from veterinary school that graduate every

animals and being able to be around them all the time would be an incredible
opportunity. When it comes to being a vet you have to be able to take care of sick
and dying animals. Being able to help animals get better, and get back to their
families would be the best feeling to have. I personally have always had the
thought of being a vet in my mind, but I finally have the right path to be able to

Occupational Handbook states, the starting salary for a veterinarian would be
around $30,000, and as time goes on the highest can vary from $82,000 and higher.
In addition, there are many factors that help determine a veterinarian s salary. For
example, a year of experience is a factor. Firstly, When you are first starting out you
re new and don t have much experience, when about a year rolls around you can see
a rise in your pay. Secondly, the amount of education in your career can be an
advantage; the higher you are qualified the higher your pay seems to be (OCO). Also,
a big benefactor can be location, depending on where you live the pay changes.

also feel that it will be a long road but I will be able to do what is needed and get a
good job in this field. I know that it will be hard but I am always up for a challenge.
To sum up, to become a veterinarian there is a lot of time and work that is needed to
excel. In conclusion, this paper explored the job and description, requirements, and
salary expectations for being a veterinarian. Being a vet has good and bad reasons it s

  • 4. Teneligliptin Synthesis Essay The first successful use of nosyl derivative of 4 hydroxyproline (12c) in nucleophilic substitution with 1 (2 pyrimidyl)piperazine has been reported.ref This activated nosyl derivative was used as intermediate during the synthesis of a dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitor, PF 734200, now known as Gosogliptin. To our delight, they adopted and executed similar route of synthesis for gosogliptin (PF 734200) as we have proposed in Scheme 2 for teneligliptin. Further, nosylate has also been used on pilot plant scale in the alkylation of (R) glycidyl nosylate.ref These reports suggested that Boc trans 4 hydroxy L proline methyl ester (12c) can be activated in SN2 conditions by converting it into a nosyl derivative and this method would be suitable for commercial use.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, adopting the same synthetic strategy for teneligliptin as described for PF 734200 by Pfizerref, optimization studies were carried out to improve the reaction condition and overall yield. The major key difference between PF 734200 and teneligliptin was in piperazinyl moiety, in PF 734200, piperazine is linked with pyrimidine where as in teneligliptin it was connected to 3 methyl 1 phenylpyrazole moiety. To know whether this structural difference in nucleophile may impact its reactivity in SN2 conditions with different activated form of Boc trans 4 hydroxy L proline methyl ester (12) such as mesylate (12a), p toluenesulfonate (12b) and nosylate (12c), reaction of 4, was performed with 12a, 12b and 12c. The 1 (3 methyl 1 phenyl 1H pyrazol 5 yl)piperazine 4 used in the process was synthesized in bulk as per reported procedeureref with modified work up required for scale up point of

  • 7. The Country s National Debt Is it to be, or not to be? Frankly, if our nation does not strive towards a solution for the National debt then it will not be . Some economist determined that the Country s national debt is not an issue to panic over because the Nation will supposedly continue as it does currently. However, the National Debt that the country has reached is a problem that cannot be ignored or solve its self and vanish, it is a problem that has to be addressed. Eventually the time will run out for the United States to keep pushing the limit on the debt ceiling and then will be left without options. Looks like it is back to finances 101. In 2015 the Government revenue was approximately $3.18 trillion, but spent approximately $3.8 trillion. The government has accumulated a massive amount of debt and interest from borrowing moneyfrom other countries and the federal reserve. The evident problem is that spending is more than revenue, thus, requiring the government to borrow and with interest of course. Once a debt is owed it is not impossible to recover from if strict precautions are taken to work towards paying it all back. However, those precautions have not been taken by the government, but instead are ignored. The government keeps borrowing without paying back the money that is borrowed and only pays on the interest that is owed. Action Research Project for Reading PHASE 3, PART 1 A) Restatement of problem The problem stated in the Action Research Project was that 66% of third grade students lack the ability to draw conclusions and make inferences to answer comprehension questions correctly. This indicated a need for increased student achievement in making inferences and drawing conclusions. Third grade students were not proficient at making inferences to gain a deeper understanding of the texts read and thus answer open ended questions correctly. This cycle also connects genres, no matter how different, together in its most basic form. Sci Fi, Fantasy, Mystery, etc. However, the genre most associated to the Hero Cycle is fantasy, partly due to the Hero Cycles origins coming from fairy tale and old myths/epics of ancient days. In the teachings and works of the Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and St. Thomas Aquinas, the interpretation of Heaven and its counterpart Hell are found in their attempt to explain the contradictory essence of Gods altruistic love and the potential of eternal punishment. An analogy is made that the good tree of heaven cannot possibly bear bad fruit just like a bad tree cannot bear that of good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So by their fruits you will know them (Matthew 7: 19 20) indicating the tradition view of Hell being a dark, fiery, pit of depraved spirits. In the Gospel of Mark, Hell is referred to as Gehenna which is a term associated in Hebrew scripture that dictates it a place of the wicked. Hell is a place where God s judgment has inscribed the sin filled life upon one s spirit. In the Gospel of Luke, Hell is referred to as a place where sinners are perished . Blocher is a law professor at Duke University. His academic interests include constitutional law, the First and Second Amendments, capital punishment, and property rights. Blocher notes a particular argument: the death penalty must be constitutional because the Fifth Amendment clearly allows it. However, Blocher takes a side on the issue and explains reasons why this is not necessarily true. One of those reasons is that the death penalty was allowed and constitutional at the time the Constitution was being written. The author comes to the conclusion that there may be good arguments for the constitutionality of the death penalty, but the Fifth Amendment is not one of them. Throughout the article Blocher explains his reason for believing that the Fifth Amendment does not supply enough evidence to support the use of the death penalty. However, Blocher also includes evidence that supports opinions that people who disagree with him may have. He writes: Justice Scalia argued that the Fifth Amendment afforded a textual basis for the capital punishment s continued constitutionality: The reason is obvious: It is impossible to hold unconstitutional that which the Constitution explicitly contemplates. The Fifth Amendment provides that [n]o person shall be held to answer for a capital . . . crime, unless on a

This will consist of the key assumptions, examples of the relevant psychologists and examples of their work, as well as an exploration into the advantages and disadvantages that some of these approaches possess. Behaviourism is a theory of learning based upon the idea that all behaviours are attained through conditioning. Behaviourists believe conditioning occurs when we interact with the environment and that the environment we are in determines the way we respond to a stimulus. The behaviourist approach believes we learn behaviours through association between response and consequence. For instance, by touching a hot iron you will feel pain. Therefore, we learn from this, and know not to touch a hot iron as we associate feeling pain as a consequence of this action. There are two forms of conditioning within the behaviourist approach; classical conditioning and operant conditioning. Behaviourists believe that individuals are born without built in mental content, known as a blank slate and that all behaviours arise from experience or perception. Classical conditioning says that we learn behaviours by associating the response to the stimulus. An example of this can be found from the work of Ivan Pavlov. In the 1890s Pavlov, a Russian physiologist, carried out some experiments with a dogs. He noticed that when a dog eats food, they salivate: this is an unconditional response to an

This transition from the front to the back cover of the dust jacket effectively shows the most important factors to the beginning and the end of Winnie s story, showing the ones she trusted, loved and adored the most. Americans were frustrated with the actions of their rulers overseas. Taxes and trade restrictions had been placed on them, and British and mercenary soldiers occupied their towns and cities. There had even been fighting at Lexington, Concord, and BunkerHill. As America grew, England s hold on it tightened, and a few voices began speaking of independence. Government is a necessary evil, a badge of lost innocence, that tends to get in the way of civilized society. Modern civilizations should organize themselves into local, self governing societies with only representational government, suggested Paine, not an all powerful monarch. Of more worth is one honest man to society, and in the sight of God, than all the crowned ruffians that ever lived (Paine 17). Paine went on to speak in more conventional terms about the specific nature of the conflict. He had anticipated that readers would be startled by his conclusions, and defended against possible objections. Uncertainty in the British Empire, some caused by disturbances in America, was bad for commerce. England would continue to drag Americans into European wars that were not their affair, said Paine, and protect them only when beneficial to themselves. Americans would not require their protection; they already had the means to defend their land. Distance and poor communication across the Atlantic made the centers of government remote from the colonists. Common Sense stressed the need for and the power of unity among the American

Persuasive technology is the computing technology that encourages a social influence mechanism, or a form of interaction that aims at changing the way people behave or think [XXX]. The persuasive technology archetype is important for defining the interaction structures of systems supporting behavioural change. Fogg [XX] lists the core concepts of persuasive technology as: (1) an attempt to change attitudes or behaviour or both without coercion or deception, (2) a focus on human computer interaction, (3) a focus on planned persuasive effects, (4) a focus on endogenous or built in persuasive intent, which means that a system is intentionally designed to persuade, and (5) persuasion that may take place at either the macro or the micro... Fogg [XXX] has also suggested some key persuasion principles on designing effective persuasive technologies or methodologies, which include reduction, tunnelling, tailoring, suggestion, self monitoring, surveillance and conditioning. To briefly explain these principles so that some content can be more easily understood later in the thesis. Reduction means using technology to simplify complex tasks and the goal of this strategy is to let the desired behaviour more tempting by reducing the difficulties and to make it easier for the user. Tunnelling is to provide guidance to the user by guiding the user through a predefined sequence of activities, and this strategy is being well applied in current design and implementation of general mobile applications. He seems to be comprised of two of the most significant traits of what constitutes an evil character. Grace Williams argues these traits by saying: The first of these is the fact that perfectly sane people exist in whom fellow feeling of any kind is so weak that an almost absolute egoism becomes possible to them, and with it those hard vices such as ingratitude and cruelty which to Shakespeare were far the worst. The second is that such evil is compatible, and even appears to ally itself easily, with exceptional powers of will and intellect (William, 87). To begin with, the author incorporates the carousel as a symbol of evil disguised as innocence. In reality, the carousel is a distortion which represents the fears and desires wicked people feed off of in order to acquire ultimate power. In the novel, the author often refers to the carousel since it is almost portrayed as a vault which is constantly revolving and depending on the innocent who succumb to the dark side when their greatest fears are put to the test. According to Bud Martin, we are drawn in and root for children because their security is being encroached upon, and it is their love and innocence that both can make them victims and save them, in the end. The carousel is by far the most powerful and important symbol within and throughout the novel because it is considered the powerhouse or main source of energy which thrives solely on the souls of the weak and naive who

The Black Power movement came about due to the fact that over the recent years, non violent actions were not combatting racism and advocators of this movement wanted to start seeing results. The main purpose of this was because blacks had simple, humane requests to end racismand give everyone equal opportunity. After researching there was a passage that fit perfectly into describing the overall view of the movement and how there was a direct controversy.. (). When looking at both Stokely Carmichael and Dr. King s views there can be contrasts on both including some viewing King s view as outdated with little change and Carmichael as turning their beliefs into a racially integrated society that some did not agree with. The article also gives an ethos appeal because the article makes a person question their morale value. Questioning whether dress codes are equal or unjust and sexist. Reading the argumentative peace it is obvious that Bates stands against sexist dress codes. The article speaks on why school systems incorporate a dress code policy. One reason was to protect young ladies from teachers and students from taking advantage of them. There are many cases that which a teacher may have been attracted to a female student. Sildenafil, tadalafil, and vardenafil concentrations may also be increased. The CYP3A4 inducers such as aminoglutethimide, carbamazepine, and phenytoin may decrease ketoconazole levels, and as ketoconazole absorption depends on gastric acidity, histamine 2 recepter blockers and proton pump inhibitors should be
