The Merry Adventures Of Robinhood
The Merry Adventures of Robinhood is a novel by a man named Howard Pyle. This book
consists of the many different adventures of a young lad named Robinhood and all of his many
merry men. For the past two months, we have been reading this novel in English class. We have
taken many notes, and have almost finished the book. Since we have read so much of this novel,
we have a pretty clear idea of who Robinhood is and how he is as a person. Throughout the story,
we see Robinhood grow as a character and help many people while getting into different accounts
of mischief. Robinhood had the goal of helping people. Robin s main mission in his life was to
help the less fortunate and the poor, along with women and children. He chose to help... Show more

It #39;s not just to please God. Robinhood understands what it is like to be in need and he helps
them. He does many things like give them money, food, etc. That is Godly character, but it
never mentions anywhere in the book that Robinhood is doing it to be more like Jesus Christ.
In fact, Robinhood does not always help the less fortunate by doing things the Godly way.
Instead, Robinhood has been known to lie to the rich and steal loads of money. Ephesians 4:28
states, Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own
hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. That bible verse clearly
states that you should do honest work. Stealing and lying is not an act of honest work.
Robinhood continuously lies and steals without any form of remorse. If Robinhood was a true
Christ follower, he would realize that his actions of stealing are wrong and that he should
collect money the right way. If Robinhood really wanted to be more like Jesus, he would repent
of his sin and at least feel a little bit of guilt. Despite the fact that Robinhood steals, Robin is a
very well respected young man by many people. There were multiple occasions in the book where
someone stumbled upon Robinhood and they had respect for him because they heard of the
thoughtful things that he does for other people. There are many different reasons as to why people

The Epic Of The Ramayana Of Valmiki
The Ramayana of Valmiki is one of the great Hindu epics in literature and has greatly influenced
Indian society. According to M.V. Kamath, a veteran indian journalist The Ramayana is not just a
story: it presents India s culture, its philosophical foundation in all its variety and glory. As
Hinduism spread in South east Asia, so did the Ramayana, in countries like Indonesia, Philippines,
Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Malaysia. The influence of the epic poem has has
been profoundly strengthened and sanctified within domestic familial relations and its characters
are the models of which the culture yearns.
The story explores the theme of human values and virtues, and many of its characters portray ideal
figures in society. The titular character Rama, the eldest and most favored son of King Dasharatha
is portrayed as the perfect son, husband and an excellent warrior he is referred to as the best of
men on occasion and lives his life on the principle of righteousness. As a result, these qualities
have earned him the praise and respect of everyone in their kingdom, as well as the favor of the
Gods. Just as Rama is the ideal man, his wife, Sita is portrayed as the ideal woman and she is highly
devoted to her husband, confident in his abilities and obedient, she loves him unconditionally and
thinks of no other.
These are the standards that men and women are held to in many Indian cultures. However, from
the view of western audiences there is a lack of parity

Snows Of Kilimanjaro Analysis
Angelica Sawan Professor North October 23, 2017 SLD Packet 2 Summary: The Snows of
Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemingway is a tale of a man named Harry and his Wife Helen who are
on a safari trip, and while on it Harry catches gangrene because he doesn t put ointment on a cut
he received from a thorn while taking a photo of a water buck. Throughout the story Harry is a
Negative Nancy, arguing with his wife and being blunt about how he is going to die before a
rescue team can get to them. For example, Harry and Helen argue about whether he should drink
a whisky and soda, whether she should read to him, and about how he is going to die. Harry
thinks about his life experiences a lot in this short story, about how he hasn t lived up to his
potential as a writer because he has a tendency to marry rich women. Harry also goes in and out
of consciousness while remembering his life adventures. His wife Helen does care for Harry
and she does enjoy his writing, but she is obviously concerned about his health and his self pity
irritates her. Harry mentions that Helen is really a good wife and does not keep him as a proud
possession and how she doesn t neglect his true talent, which is writing. We also find out that
Helen is a widow who was bored of the lovers before Harry and they married because of her
enjoyment of his writing and how they have similar interests. At the end of the story Helen
wakes up because of a loud hyena call, she takes a flashlight and shines it on Harry s bed which
she moved into their tent earlier that night. She sees him under the mosquito net with his leg
hanging off of the cot and notices that Harry is dead. The hyena cries again but Helen can t hear
it over her heart breaking. Formal: Tender Buttons by Gertrude Stein is a collection of writings
about ordinary objects, and is divided into objects, food, and rooms. She uses random objects
with random adjectives, and she uses language to direct the mind and force the reader to connect
nouns with unsuspecting adjectives to make you look at the world in a new way. It s a pros
poem, it s a cubist poem. She tries to break apart logic. The theme is giving new meaning to
ordinary objects, she wants us to think, she uses a lot of literary devices.

The Exploration History Of The Mcara Property Provided...
The exploration history of the McAra property provided here was compiled from Randall
(2007), Robinson (2006), Anonymous (2003), Anderson (2005), and Pringle (2016). 1910 1982:
Early Exploration Exploration in the region started in 1910s and was focused on Ag Co veins,
with no significant silver deposits haven been discovered in the McAra area. Copper zinc (VMS
type?) mineralized zones were discovered in Archean volcanic rocks in the southern part of
North Williams Township by Metron Explorations Limited in 1970. The mineralized zone and
surrounding area were evaluated with a HLEM survey and drilled with 2 DDHs (totaling 61.3 m)
that did not intercept significantly mineralized rocks (Willars, 1971). In 1982, perceived
Witwatersrand type gold deposit potential caused a major staking rush in the area, with exploration
focused on conglomeratic units in the Paleoproterozoic Lorrain Formation of the Cobalt Group
that forms the upper part of the Huronian Supergroup. Exploration was unsuccessful and the
claims were quickly abandoned. Mid 1980s: Falconbridge Nickel Falconbridge Nickel explored
for base metal VMS deposits in the mid 1980s in the nearby Sheard, Browning and Amyot
townships. The highest amplitude conductors interpreted from airborne data were evaluated with
ground geophysical surveys and drill tested with poor results. 1996 1997: Roy Annett Roy Annett

How Law Enforcement Can Prove Evidence And The Guilty With...
There are different ways law enforcement can prove evidence and the guilty with impression
evidence. Latent (invisible) or patent (visible) prints that are used in criminal investigations are
typically collected from crime scene specialists to reveal or extract fingerprints from any surface or
objects with the use of chemical or physical methods. Fingerprints can be shown when they are
taken from a crime scene where the crime was committed. Fingerprints and bite mark evidencehave
similar traits to shoe prints and tire tracks that can be used in criminal investigations. There are a
percentage of palm prints that must be left at the scene to make a comparison for valid evidence.
Fingerprints can be taken from a crime scene in various methods. Fingerprints are classified into
three categories depending on the surface they are found. Fingerprints on soft surfaces are most
likely to be three dimensional plastic prints such as soap, wax, wet paint, fresh caulk, etc. ( A
Simplified Guide To Fingerprint Analysis , n.d). The fingerprints on hard surfaces are patent or
latent prints including blood, dirt, ink, paint, etc. transferred from a finger or thumb to a surface ( A
Simplified Guide To Fingerprint Analysis , n.d). Patent prints can be collected using photography.
The prints are photographed in high resolution with a forensic measurement scale for the image for
reference. There are multiple methods for discovering and collecting latent prints. Alternate Light

Imagery in Ragged Dick Essay examples
Imagery in Ragged Dick
Imagery plays a big part in the success of a novel. Different writers have different styles. The
good thing about imagery is it makes room for the reader to put things together. The reader is
allowed to interpret the story the way that they like. Ragged Dick , Horatio Alger, Jr. did a great
thing with imagery. While reading the novel readers had a change to envision many things that were
mentioned in each chapter. Algar interconnected the appearances of the main character to his living
arrangement. He also connected these things with the character s attitude.

After Dick and Frank departed from each other, Dick had a lot on his mind. He started thinking
about his future. Before he met Frank he did not think about his future much. He would spend
all his money on things that he did not need, Such as smoking and gambling. The first thing
Dick did when Frank left was get his self a good meal. He ate at a restaurant that he may have not
been able to eat at because of his clothes. The next thing he started thinking about was where he
was going to sleep. He decided to get a room. He went to a house that was kept by his friend s
mother.
This was the beginning of him changing for the better. When he got to the house the lady was a

you got a room to let? asked Dick. Is it for yourself you ask? questioned the woman, in some

McKinley Attorneys at Law. Finally, a junior partner had made it to managing partner; Conor
McKinley now occupied Mr Hardwood s former office.
Conor smiled as he thought to himself, I can t believe I ve made this far.
Standing next to Conor s side was a beaming Bailiff Bob. Both wore matching wedding bands.
Nothing would stop this power couple, now.
Among those in attendance were former Judge Ricardo Sandoval, who had been nominated for
State Supreme Court Judgeship, and Min jun Kim, now groomed from his original gangster like
appearance to be a doting boyfriend. After two months, they still couldn t keep their hands off each
other, even in public.
Stuart Rutherford with Oliver Winston mingled about the conference room turned buffet table with
drinks in hand and bouts of laughter. And, after all this time, Conor still had a gut feeling about that

Even, the Prosecutor from the murder trial stopped by to give his accolades. Walter Rearin nodded
in apprehension, although he smirked on the inside. The trial s victory made this law practice a
fortune with the assistance of the media coverage.
I ve see you made Conor McKinley a managing partner. He did an outstanding job in the courtroom,
and I m sure we ll hear more from him in years to come, said the humble Prosecutor.
Walter Rearin spoke, That s kind of you. And exactly why I promoted him. He earned it.

The Gospel Of Jesus Christ
When sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we must have a heart for God, because if we have a
heart for God, we can have a heart for His people. Through evangelism, we can reach the non
believers in effort to convert them over to Christianity, so they can experience the love of Jesus
Christ. Evangelism is the core, the heart that leads non believers to salvation. As they repent and
confess their sins, they become a part of JesusChrist family, and the power of the Holy Spirit is
imparted into them (Doerksen, 2012, p. 3).
Believers in many nations look to Christianity as the foundation upon which to build their
societies (Yung, 2011, p. 44), and the same was true during the time period of Apostle Paul.
Apostle Paul speaks to the Corinthians and Colossians of the importance of sharing the Gospel,
and to make sure Christ always gets the glory. Therefore, when he addresses the people of Corinth,
he explains that his authority comes from the Holy Spirit. Paul wanted the Church of Corinth to
rely on the power of God, and not on their spiritual gifts they had received. His intention was not to
persuade them with eloquent language, but only through power of the Gospel.
In II Corinthians 4:1 4, Paul explains to the people of Corinth, because of God s mercy we do not
give up, we keep pushing and preaching. In addition, he explains there is nothing deceitful about
his preaching, but the Lord has blinded certain individuals, and the only way the blinders will be
removed is

Urban Growth Management and Politics
Urban Growth Management and Politics
Being a urban planner is an exciting career field to work in. There are countless opportunities to
create innovative ideas that can change a struggling city into a beautiful and exciting place for
residents and tourist. However, when it comes to managing urban growth, planning becomes a more
complicated process. Part of the problem is the difficulty in balancing the task of growth
management and politics. Planners must find sensible ways to manage growth while being mindful
of the political aspects that interfere with planning.
Growth management is an important part of urban planning. As defined by John M. Levy, author of
Contemporary Urban Planning, growth management is defines as, ... Show more content on

Many of the proponents for growth management are supportive of the legislation because they
believe in the safe management of their land and resources.
However, there are many not supportive of the legislation of growth management for various
reasons including government control. As quoted in the attitudes toward growth management
publication, the system has also been criticized for placing the state in the role of a command and
control entity, rather than the role of a facilitator and advisor to localities on planning issues
(Connerly, 2004). While there remains to be a great number of supporters for growth management,
many Florida residents are not in support of government intervention. The citizen s stance against
too much government control brings focus on the political aspect of urban planning and growth
management.
There are many problems that can arise with an the unmanaged growth of within communities
across the world. According to the works of , Robert F. Durant, Larry W. Thomas, and Don Hayes,
authors of, The Politics of Growth Management Reform in the States: A Comparative Analysis,
Urban Sprawl can be a burden to communities. For example, The quality of life in numerous states
today suffers appreciably from burgeoning populations, unbridled development, and unmanaged
settlement patterns (Robert F. Durant, 1993).
Occurrences like unmanaged developments can be catastrophic to a community. Other issues like

Thucydides Summary
There is little doubt that Thucydides is regarded as one of the best historical writers for coming up
with his book, presenting facts and truth about the war even though he was a general in the Athens
army. By using a unique style of writing, the author was attempting a unique style which involved
being aggressively rational and giving an impersonal analysis of the historyof his times being free
from religious influence.
The style used in writing the book is different because the author makes the war to be understood in
respect to human politics and power struggles that were taking place between the two warring
factions; Athens and Sparta. The style of writing is different from how Herodotus had explained the
Greek war against the Persians, putting too much emphasis on the religious side of the war.
Thucydides tries to be different by describing the human factors which made the Athens side to lose
the war. He points that Athens was more concerned about expanding than winning the war and that
most of its generals defected after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author advocated the theme of realism by illustrating how small cities such as Melian would
have benefited had they joined the Athenians. He notes that the cities were destroyed because they
were not realistic about their situation hence they would not have stood against the Athenians.
Throughout the book, Thucydides shows the difference in his works by using economics and
politics as the two main factors which used to determine wars at that time. Such a move was sin
contrast with how historians used to portray wars at that time. Historians usually used gods and
their influence to explain army victories but Thucydides explains that the cities with the most
money and a centralized system of government used to win such wars. For instance, the author
explains that Athens had many armies and was powerful in the sea, thus having an advantage over

Analysis Of The Story The Story Of An Hour By Kate Chopin
Death is the wish of some, relief of many, and the end of all. Death, which is often seen as a great
evil, can sometimes be seen as something for the greater good of someone. To many, death is a
liberator and a comforter. It is a journey we ll all have to embark, sooner or later. Death can be the
beginning of the end to many people, an event which can bring everlasting happiness, but also a
shattering sadness. The short storyThe Story of an Hour, by Kate Chopin, which was published in
1894, presents a not so common viewpoint of death. One could say that this story has brought
about a brief renewing love for life with one of the main characters. On the other hand, The
Moths by Helena Maria Viramontes shows a painful reaction to death, that is quite relatable to
what one may usually experience. The death in The Moths can be looked at as a moment of
grief in pain, but also a moment for maturity and rebirth. Moreover, The Story of an Hour depicts
death as a problem solver and something that can bring unimaginable amounts of freedom. Death
can be looked at as perhaps a sort of liberation that can bring about a renewal for life. In other
aspects, death can be viewed as a moment of grief and pain. Lastly, death may work as a spark
which brings another loved one back into your life.
Renewing love for life and freedom are two things that many suddenly feel once they ve finished
grieving from the loss of a loved one. As seen in Chopin s The Story of an Hour the main

Saint Francis, widely known as Saint Francis of Assisi, is one of the world s most beloved and
well known saints. He s the patron of animals, merchants, and ecology. Saint Francis was born in
Assisi, Italy in 1181 to very wealthy parents. Pietro Bernardone, the father of St. Francis, a very
wealthy merchant returned from a trip to France to find out his wife had given birth to a son. The
last thing Pietro wanted was a son that was a man of God, he wanted a man of businessman as a

Did the solid Ice Cream Formation Change Based on Type of Salt Use?
Purpose
The purpose of the lab was to identify how the different types of salt applied to ice effect the

Background Research
Ice cream is a solution with a lower freezing point than H2O therefor regular ice cannot lower the
temperature enough for solid product to form (Science Matters). Lowering the temperature farther
is the job of salt. NaCl (salt) will dissolve in water (or ice in this case) to form a solution with a

Salt was mined out of large salt flats that were the remains of ancient sea s that had dried up.
Nowadays salt is produced both by mining old lakes and drying up newer lakes. Harvesters will
flood a shallow area with salt water and wait for the water to evaporate. When the designated
area is dry workers just scrape up the remaining salt. Salt is used to lower the temperature and
unless it is created in a lab, which is not a cost effective was to obtain salt, the mining and
harvesting causes verities of salt. Sea salt is obtained simply by harvesting dry sea s; this can be
done by both mining and farming. Sea salt varies widely and contains many other trace mineral

via the evaporation process (Health Nut). The differences in Kosher Salts and Sea Salts are
explored in their ability to create solid product from an Ice Cream solution.

Explain One Possible Cause Of The Great Human Migration
1.Identify and explain one example of non historical evidence for human migration out of Africa.
Throughout his article, The Great Human Migration, Guy Gugliotta analyzes various evidence that
support the theory of human migration out of Africa. Gugliotta explains how scientists use
mitochondrial DNA, which is passed on only from one s mother and has a fast mutation rate, to
trace modern humans origin. By analyzing modern mitochondrial DNA and working backwards,
scientists have found that a woman alive in Africa 200,000 years ago had the mitochondrial DNA
that is found in people alive today. The woman was named Eve and she is, what scientists call, our
most recent common ancestor. DNA evidence showed that she lived in Africa, which supports the
out of Africa theory because it proves that modern humans originated in Africa. These findings link
Africa as the hearth of modern humans all over the world and demonstrates that early humans
migrated out of Africa.

As recent scientific evidence shows, Africa may have suffered from a lack of water roughly
100,000 years ago. Since water is essential for human life, the absence of precipitation may have
caused early humans to migrate to other parts of the world. Scientists found evidence which
establishes that modern humans were separated into small, dispersed groups due to the droughts.
After the droughts ended, people decided to migrate to parts of Asia in order to ensure survival.
The African people did not want to risk another drought, so they decided to begin emigrating out of
Africa and exploring the rest of the world. The water deficiency in Africa may have caused modern
humans to migrate out of Africa and begin inhabiting other regions of the

A Look at Desegregation as a Part of a Larger Phenomenon...
The term melting pot for America came about during the early 1900s in reference to America s
acceptance of all immigrants and races during the time period. America has, since the coining of
the term, proven that it was an artificial label with little resemblance to the truth. Throughout
history a great deal of white Americans practiced seclusion, segregation, and alienation of rights
for non Anglo Saxon peoples. Perhaps none have suffered more than the African Americans at the
hand of Anglo Saxon Americans. In his South Carolina Schools and Colleges Desegregation
manuscript William E. Rone details the hard fought court cases against educational segregation in
South Carolina during the 50s and 60s as well as events which related to those cases. The cases
depict a story of intolerance, disregard for the law with respect to desegregation, and outright harm
to non white Americans. Knowing America s past and present one could say that America is more
akin to an un tossed salad than a melting pot. All the pieces coexisting together, yet perpetually
divided by racial and cultural barriers as well as anger and fear of the unfamiliar. America, and the
South especially, provided substandard segregated schooling and amenities for African Americans
which perpetuated the culture gap and only widened the separation of races in America during the
mid 1900s. One such example of the disparity between white and black schools was busing in
Clarendon County South Carolina. Often

this career because I m fascinated with the functions of the human brain, as well as the human
body as a whole. Also, this career appeals to me because it gives you an opportunity to save lives,
and make a difference. This is something I m hoping to accomplish. In my paper, I m going to

conditions, salary, my interests in this career, and a personal interview.
Successful Neuro Surgery is actually really young, being developed during this past century.
Pioneer surgeon s abilities were very limited due to their lack of technology and knowledge of the

John Robby Personality
High school is its own society. There is a social standard that everyone must follow. It is not like
when people are children. When someone is a child, they are friends with everyone. The moment
that they walk up to someone they are instant friends. They could talk for hours, and just start
playing games with each other. High schoolis not like that. Everyone is in groups, and what group
a student is in will influence their personality. Once someone is in a group, it is almost
impossible to change. In Our Time , John Wideman shows how many things influence Robby s
personality, which in the end, caused him to commit crimes. Society and his friend group are
just two of those things. Robby s life may have turned out much differently if he would have
grown up in a different neighborhood that had more people of the same race as himself. His life
would ve also been very different if he started hanging around a different type of people. You
know, partying and stuff in Garfield because that s where the niggers were (Wideman 643).
Robby hung out with people who liked to party, which caused him to do the same.Robby s life
was influenced by his surroundings, and so did mine when I first entered high school. High school
also causes people to grow up faster. There is a mountain of responsibility that affects people s
lives . In Our Secret , Susan Griffin tells the reader about the pressure that Heinrich Himmler s
father put on Heinrich. The weight of that hand could not be comforting.

Raft Of The Medusa And The World Is Too Much With Us

Romanticism
Romanticism emerged in the 18th 19th centuries (primarily in opposition to Neo Classism) as a
way to express, as Victor Hugo said, liberalism in literature. The Romantic way of thinking
emphasized freedom from rules, and individuality. Many works of art and pieces of literature were
made following this theme, among them the painting, Raft of the Medusa and the poem the The
World is too Much with us .
The Raft of the Medusa is a painting done by Theodore Gericault in the 1800s. It is modeled after
the tragedy that was the shipwreck of the French naval frigate, MГ©duse, and it depicts the
survivors who were adrift on the raft.
The poem, The World is too much with us is a sonnet written by the Englishman William
Wordsworth in 1802. The composition is a romantic and satirical piece criticizing the people of the
modern world for their materialistic values and their disregarding of nature.
Both of these works are the epitome of Romanticism, as they both highlight the focal points of
Romantic thought; interest in the common man, strong senses and emotions, awe of nature,
celebration of the individual, and the importance of imagination.
The Romantics enjoy the struggle of the common man , and judging by the attire of the men on the
Raft of the Medusa , they are peasants just poor, everyday guys. These men have been subjected to
this terrible fate by the actions of those more fortunate

The Blues, By Jelly Roll Morton And Mamie s Blues
Even after slavery, African American women are still imprisoned by their inferior role to men. The
women could be from different statuses based on job, wealth, or marital status, but they are would
find themselves suffering under the rules of their men. The blues Wild Women Don t Have the
Blues by Ida Cox and Mamie s Blues by Jelly Roll Morton talk about the challenges of women
living during the Harlem Renaissance. The blues surrounded the African Americanwomen during
this time, and these songs talk about women facing hardships in life because they are second class
citizens compared to men.
The women in these blues are in relationships that have caused their blues. In Cox s blues, the
woman is in a relationship with an alcoholic. As a young child, she followed society s rules,
because she believed this would grant her a blissful life. Instead she is punished with a horrible
relationship and she feels betrayed by her destiny. She regrets living in between the lines, when
she could have lived frivolously like a wild woman. Morton s song describes the life of a wild
woman described in Cox s song. The woman lives in the city and is in a relationship with an
unemployed man. Although she is not trapped in a house like the previous song, she is trapped
being the sole breadwinner for herself and her man. The woman is described as being wild because
she is acting improperly by openly begging to men for money. When a woman begs for money, it
exposes the man for not providing for

Alexander Von E Visite Analysis
Photography is the development of the authenticity of photographic images and relates to the
personality of what is being represented. Edgar Allen Poe believed that in order to capture a
photographic image, the truth must be revealed by those images. He imagines that the photographs
acknowledge perfection with close scrutiny. The terms photograph and photogenic are synonymous
which further compliment any portrait or drawing. Aerial and linear perspective, light and shade
accentuate the model. Therefore, the pictures or images must be the result of this. The real
essence of what Poe describes is what is seen is the truth of the sitter. The following three images

Nadar, ThГ©ophile Gautier, 1857, salted paper print. These portraits vary to a certain extent
and capture the exactitude of the portrait. The daguerreotype by Herman Biow shows a pose of
Alexander von Humboldt. This earlier daguerreotype portrait is clear and sharp. The
background is faded and the model is dressed in a dark black suit. The brilliancy of the portrait is
emphasized. The only way to perfect this image would be to make the photograph more visible.
Coincidentally, instead the fadedness gives the portrait tonality. The daguerreotypes at this time
were more distinct to its suitor in that regards. However, the image still keeps the person in the
image interested. The second image is photographed by Ludwig Angerer of Elizabeth of Austria,
1860. The veracity of the image gives depth to the composition of the portrait. The full length of
this portrait is close to the appeal of what the photographer was aiming for. Elizabeth s pose
reveals conventionality. The brilliance of the skylight is shown which gives the portrait
truthfulness. Thirdly, Nadar photographed Theophile Gautier on salted paper. This portrait brood
s personality in the way it is opposite sides of the viewer. The person posing for this image has
equal shades of light and dark. The man in this portrait exudes aristocrat. His personality comes
across to the viewer as highly individualistic and straightforward. Overall, these three portraits are
sheer brilliance. The lifelike images are true to life and conform to utmost perfection. This further
supports Poe s claim

Compression Stockings Affect The Clothes On The Body
Compression hose also called compression stockings are specialized hosiery that is designed to
help improve the circulation in the legs to prevent venous disease such as swelling, varicose veins
and blood clots. They are made from elastic, and compress the legs to help the muscles keep the
blood flowing back to the lungs and heart.
Venous insufficiency occurs when there is too much pressure on the veins in the legs so that the
wall of the vein becomes weak and the tiny valves inside the veins stop working properly. This
results in the blood pooling in the vein causing it to bulge and twist. Compression hose helps reduce
the pressure in the veins and prevents the veins from shutting down. They force the blood to pass
through narrower channels, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

pressure from the ankle to the thigh, and are most often prescribed for people who do not walk.
Compression stockings are also used by athletes in the hope they will improve the efficiency of the
muscles. While this may or may not be true, many athletes have anecdotal evidence that they
benefit from the stockings.
Both types of compression hose come in knee high or thigh high length. Knee high is considered
the best choice for prevention of deep vein thrombosis. They are also more comfortable. However,
this is a decision that may be made by our specialist.

prevention than therapy and is sold over the counter.

Understanding the similarities of Strain Theory, amp; General Theory of Crime Angela Sampson
# 2396467 Sociology 345: Social Control Professor: James Chriss Cleveland State University
April 30th 2012 Abstract: The purpose is to identify the similarities between Strain theories, and
General Theory of Crime. Strain was developed from the work of Durkheim and Merton and taken
from the theory of anomie. Durkheim focused on the decrease of societal restraint and the strain
that resulted at the individual level, and Merton studied the cultural imbalance that exists between
goal and the norms of the individuals of society. General Theory of Crime , In 1990 Michael R.

In essence, general strain theory proposed that an increase in strain would lead to an increase in
anger, which may then lead to an increase in crime (Agnew, 1992:61). These previously
mentioned goals turn into strain when the individual is faced with certain disjunctions in their
life. The first of these disjunctions is the one that is the focus of previous strain theories, the
disjunction between aspirations and expectations. This is founded on the principle of culturally
bound goals and values that are accepted by everyone but yet not available to everyone. This
idea of the American Dream then causes strain and frustration in the individual who cannot
achieve this dream through legitimate means. This theory has been criticized because it does
not explain middle class crime, it only focuses monetary goals, social class is the only barrier
that is considered, and it does not specify why some turn to deviance. The loss of positively
valued stimuli Agnew s research in the stress literature led him to the discovery that the removal
of positive stimuli can also cause strain. This loss could manifest itself in the form of a death or a
broken relationship with a friend or romantic partner, or it could be a result of the theft of a valued
object. According to Agnew, the strain that is felt by the individual die to the loss could lead the
individual to delinquency as the individual attempts to prevent its loss,

Karen didn t look in the basement, she told Lucy no. Lucy decided to sneak into the basement as

that took a while to turn the lights on. After waiting forever the lights came on and that s when
Lucy made a discovery. Lucy found a big box under the stairs and inside was an old antique doll.
Lucy immediately felt a connection to it and ran upstairs to tell her mother. When she showed it
to her mother, she was afraid she would get in trouble, but instead Karen made Lucy promise not
to disobey her again. Lucy and her mother went to show her father and decide to let Lucy keep it

Spontaneous Philosophy Essay

Writing Assignment One
Spontaneous Philosophy is an unconscious philosophy that is received by people when they re
young. Philosophy of Praxis is an active philosophy that advocates that members of society should
play an active role in achieving positive change. Spontaneous philosophy led Jesuitism to be passed
down each generation. Philosophy of Praxis led to the formation of Marxism. These philosophies
hold very different views.
Gramsci defines Spontaneous Philosophy as a philosophy that everyone receives unconsciously
from various elements at a young age. The elements that they receive spontaneous philosophy
from includes language, common sense, and folklore. All these elements share the characteristic
of passing ideas between generations and keeping cultures alive. Language is used as a tool to
convey ideas and varies between cultures. It can have certain forms that can make it easier or
harder to convey ideas depending on what the speakers know. A dialect is a form of a language
that connects people that live in the same part of a country. However, different dialects can still be
understood by people that speak the same language. This allows ideas to be spread through
different parts of a country and unifies the culture. Language can even unify people internationally
if a person learns the language of a country on the other side of the world.
Common sense is a good sense of what is right and

Three Day Blow
Essay: The Three Day Blow
Drinking is one of people s main problems. Drinking distorts self perception and actions. There
are many reasons for drinking: depression, happiness, a social event. These incentives are
developed in The Three Day Blow by Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway uses drinking as a form of
expression through his character Nick and his inner conflict.
This short story is about two friends that decide to spend the day together, forget about their
problems and just drink until they realize that drinking has no ... Show more content on

His face looked strange. He smiled at the face in the mirror and it grinned back at him. He
winked and it went on. It was not his face but it didn t make any difference. (19) This quote shows
that drinking distorts perception and allows misconception, like Nick sees in his face. His face was
not the same he saw what drinking was doing to him, but it did not matter. There was no other
solution to his problems. He just continued drinking.
Drinking is used as a bandage or a way to forget. It causes no self control and therefore to speak
freely. Hemingway uses drinking as a form of expression, as Nick does realizing he lost the
woman of his life: All he knew was that he had once had Marjorie and that he had lost her. She
was gone and he had sent her away. That was all that mattered. It was all gone, finished. (20)
Since Nick is drunk, it consents him to reflect and express himself openly. This shows that drinking
is seen as a form of expression.
Everything he had just withered away. At that point he realized that drinking was of no use. No
matter how much you drink, it is not a solution to your problems. It keeps going on in a cycle:
There is no use getting drunk. (22) Only after they get drunk do they realize that it is not worth it
and drinking does not help. In the end the two friends don t resolve

Rti Case Study In Psychology
Once upon a time, there lived a girl name Heather. Heather was a wife, a mother and a Solider.
She was a young, attractive and approachable professional, based on the external aesthetic she
presented, most acquaintances perceived her as a fully functional, type A personality. They were
wrong. Heather began her military career in the field of Aviation, spending the majority of her
service in that particular branch she displayed the aptitude and ability to easily transition into
diverse fields of study. Based on her performance and attributes, Heather was reassigned as an
instructor with the Eastern Army Aviation Training Site (EAATS), later transferring over the
Regional Training Institution (RTI). Her transfer to the RTI was a consequence of substandard
promiscuous behavior. Although, no one in the RTI chain of command was aware of her
circumstances or situation, her demeanor presented a concerning area of interest. I had formerly
been acquainted with Heather and also served with her husband, all the while believing they
were a happy couple. I was wrong. Heather had engaged in adultery while she was assigned at
EAATS, for reasons unclear to me, her sexual repression (as Freud may have diagnosed) was
deeply rooted and did not end with a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

injuries, although she was discharged from the military and divorced her husband she has begun to
rebuild her life. She moved out of state and obtained a promising career as a consultant with the
FAA. My hope is that she also has learned and continues to grow from this unfortunate

Heath Care Industry Essay
Health Care Industry Pam Simmons University of Phoenix HCS/449: Health Administration
Capstone Marilyn Johnson June 4, 2012 In today s world, everyone wants the most from health
care. In the last 10 years, health care has changed in a big way. One thing, in which has changed,
is the way older adults are living ten years longer than before (Imperial NHS, 2011). Another
thing is that people do not have to wait as long for treatments, like before, such as eye surgeries,
like cataract surgery (Imperial NHS, 2011), which is very good. The health care industry has come

My role in the health care industry will be helping others to receive the best quality of care
because I plan on either taking the role as an administrator of a hospital or an assistant. Either
way, my responsibility will be to the patient s well being and making sure that they get the proper
treatments and will not have to wait a long time to get those treatments. I will make sure that they
get treated, properly. I will make sure that the staff members will do their jobs, properly and will
always be there for the patients and residents. I will make sure that the staff members have
everything they need to do their jobs, properly. I will make sure that the residents and the patients
have everything they need to get treated, properly. There is many ways, I can adapt my skills to
change with the health industry s needs. One thing, I can do is to study books and go to training
courses on learning skills, which an administrator needs, to make sure that my organization is run
smoothly and efficiently, which is important. Another thing I can do is take courses in health care
administration, management, and other topics, which is related to administration. I can read up on
administration, whether it is by television, Internet, magazines, or newspapers. I will do what I can
to make sure that everything is in proper order, with the organization and the patients/residents.

Moral competence is one of the components that influenced development of nurses competence at
the workplace. Moreover, society nowadays requires moral competence in the nursing curricula
which highlight as an individual s ability to live up to a personal moral code and role
responsibilities (Taylor, 1994; Jormsri et al., 2005). Within nursing competency, caring behaviour is
highlighted as a major component in the moral competence. Caring behaviour is described as
competence, confidence, conscience and commitment of nurses in the clinical setting (Roach,
1987). Taylor (1994) argues that, moral competence is bringing to ethical issues encountered in the
nurses practice. Jormsri et al., (2005) highlighted the acquisition of moral competence is explored
by personal, social and professional values and define moral competence as ability of individuals to

Pros And Cons Of Renting
Plumbing Arlington
Tips for Renters
Renting offers advantages that owning a home can t, such as reduced maintenance costs, reduced
insurance costs, no property taxes, and in the case of apartments, there is no lawn upkeep.
However, you have the responsibility to maintain the rental in good condition. The terms of the
lease should clearly outline your responsibilities. The following renters plumbing tips can assist in a
worry free experience, and proper care of your rental s plumbing in Arlington.
Before Signing a Lease
It s wise to be aware of your rights as a renter, and these can vary between locations. Typically,
landlords will be required to maintain a structurally sound and habitable property , to provide hot
and cold water, with an efficient sewer system, to maintain a roof that doesn t leak, and to maintain

For example, ask if there are drainage problems, leaky pipes, faucet issues, running toilet
problems, or water heater issues. If you re going to be responsible for the repair of problems (and
the water bill) with the rental s plumbing in Arlington, it s especially wise to identify them before
signing the lease or moving in.
Tips
Never pour fat, oil, or grease down the drain, or into the garbage disposal. In addition, insert
strainers into drains to help prevent clogs. Practicing preventative measures now will reduce
problems later with the rental s plumbing in Arlington. Purchase a toilet plunger for the occasional
clog, and provide one for each bathroom.
Prevent Frozen Pipes
If the rental features an outdoor faucet, remember to insulate it before cold weather arrives to
prevent a frozen, or burst pipe. Ask the landlord if other pipes are vulnerable to freezing.
Uninsulated walls in older homes can lead to frozen pipes on exterior walls. During extreme cold,
leaving the cabinet doors open under sinks can prevent frozen pipes in the home s plumbing in
Arlington.

The Balance Of Power Theory
Balance of power theory represents a body of interrelated concepts for achieving security and
stability by maintaining an equal distribution of power throughout the international system. Some
critics contend that the theory cannot provide guidance to states in a unipolar system since it
developed out of centuries of multipolarity and decades of bipolarity. This assessment is
incorrect. Although a specific conception of balance of power theory may not provide guidance,
an appraisal of the concepts within its various forms suggests continuing relevance. This paper
discusses balance of power theory by examining the evolution of its structural and ideational
variants, and asserts that the concept remains relevant in a unipolar international system. The
balance of power is a historical concept with a variety of meanings. In Thucydides account of the
Melian dialogue, he indirectly refers to countries balancing in response to growing Athenian
power and aggression (Thucydides, 1972). Over 1200 years later, Hobbes described balancing in
reference to the ability of a confederacy of the weak to overwhelm the strong (Hobbes, 1996).
Both Thucydides and Hobbes reference a type of balancing aimed at reestablishing an equilibrium
of power within the international system. Gulick refers to this behavior by states as a doctrine of
counterpoise, designed to ensure the survival of individual states and to prevent a state from
accruing predominant power (Gulick, 1955). During the 19th

irrational fear in this novel is the fear of those who are different or Blastphomes that don t fir their

Ideas of Rulers in Tao-te Ching and The Prince Essay
When comparing Tao te Ching to The Prince there are numerous differences. The authors of these
two documents had almost completely opposite ideas of how a ruler should behave and how a
government should be run. One believed that the ruler could accomplish the most by doing the
least; the other believed that by controlling how the public perceived a rulerwas what would make
him a success or a failure. Machiavelli believed that to rule the princemust do things that would win
approval with his people, and that the prince must always keep and maintain arms to remain in
power. On the other hand Lao tzu believed that the master ruled with as little involvement as
possible, he believed that to not do would have the greatest effect, and... Show more content on

Throughout The Prince are guide lines for a ruler to follow concerning matters of how he is
going to be viewed by the people. Machiavelli says that a prince should take care to not be too
generous or too cruel as either could have a negative effect on his reputation. While these two
ideas might seem to have little relevance to one another it is just an example of how Lao tzu s and
Machiavelli s ideas about how important the rulers public persona was to their ability to rule
successfully.
Finally one major difference is that Machiavelli believes that the ruler should always keep arms
and be ready to fight off a threat. Lao tzu has the idea that the only need to keep arms is for a last
resort when all other options have been exhausted. This is an enormous difference; The Prince
gives the idea that by not maintaining a military and a willingness to fight the ruler may be over
thrown by either another country or by his own people. Lao tzu gives the idea that if you rule
properly you will not need the weapon except in the most extreme circumstances. He also gives
the idea that if a ruler tries to rule by force another force opposing the ruler will come to him.
Both of these authors have good ideas on how to rule properly and have the greatest influence on
their people. While neither one of the ideas is wrong nor right they are both good proposals for
any one not just a prince or a master, but anyone who finds

Crucial Issues In Our World
Since time immemorial, humans have been helping each other in hard situations. There is a
famous saying from Gandhi, who says: The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the
service of others. Nowadays, it is one of the most crucial issues in our world, so we can see a
vast number of charities with various purposes everywhere. For instance, some of them are for
fighting against cancer or other illnesses, some for helping hungry and homeless people, and above
all, war victims. There are different opinions on the best way to apply this worthy cause. To put this
subject into perspective, perhaps it would be better to look objectively at two major ideas on this
contentious matter.

  • 2. The Merry Adventures Of Robinhood The Merry Adventures of Robinhood is a novel by a man named Howard Pyle. This book consists of the many different adventures of a young lad named Robinhood and all of his many merry men. For the past two months, we have been reading this novel in English class. We have taken many notes, and have almost finished the book. Since we have read so much of this novel, we have a pretty clear idea of who Robinhood is and how he is as a person. Throughout the story, we see Robinhood grow as a character and help many people while getting into different accounts of mischief. Robinhood had the goal of helping people. Robin s main mission in his life was to help the less fortunate and the poor, along with women and children. He chose to help... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It #39;s not just to please God. Robinhood understands what it is like to be in need and he helps them. He does many things like give them money, food, etc. That is Godly character, but it never mentions anywhere in the book that Robinhood is doing it to be more like Jesus Christ. In fact, Robinhood does not always help the less fortunate by doing things the Godly way. Instead, Robinhood has been known to lie to the rich and steal loads of money. Ephesians 4:28 states, Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. That bible verse clearly states that you should do honest work. Stealing and lying is not an act of honest work. Robinhood continuously lies and steals without any form of remorse. If Robinhood was a true Christ follower, he would realize that his actions of stealing are wrong and that he should collect money the right way. If Robinhood really wanted to be more like Jesus, he would repent of his sin and at least feel a little bit of guilt. Despite the fact that Robinhood steals, Robin is a very well respected young man by many people. There were multiple occasions in the book where someone stumbled upon Robinhood and they had respect for him because they heard of the thoughtful things that he does for other people. There are many different reasons as to why people like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Snows Of Kilimanjaro Analysis Angelica Sawan Professor North October 23, 2017 SLD Packet 2 Summary: The Snows of Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemingway is a tale of a man named Harry and his Wife Helen who are on a safari trip, and while on it Harry catches gangrene because he doesn t put ointment on a cut he received from a thorn while taking a photo of a water buck. Throughout the story Harry is a Negative Nancy, arguing with his wife and being blunt about how he is going to die before a rescue team can get to them. For example, Harry and Helen argue about whether he should drink a whisky and soda, whether she should read to him, and about how he is going to die. Harry thinks about his life experiences a lot in this short story, about how he hasn t lived up to his potential as a writer because he has a tendency to marry rich women. Harry also goes in and out of consciousness while remembering his life adventures. His wife Helen does care for Harry and she does enjoy his writing, but she is obviously concerned about his health and his self pity irritates her. Harry mentions that Helen is really a good wife and does not keep him as a proud possession and how she doesn t neglect his true talent, which is writing. We also find out that Helen is a widow who was bored of the lovers before Harry and they married because of her enjoyment of his writing and how they have similar interests. At the end of the story Helen wakes up because of a loud hyena call, she takes a flashlight and shines it on Harry s bed which she moved into their tent earlier that night. She sees him under the mosquito net with his leg hanging off of the cot and notices that Harry is dead. The hyena cries again but Helen can t hear it over her heart breaking. Formal: Tender Buttons by Gertrude Stein is a collection of writings about ordinary objects, and is divided into objects, food, and rooms. She uses random objects with random adjectives, and she uses language to direct the mind and force the reader to connect nouns with unsuspecting adjectives to make you look at the world in a new way. It s a pros poem, it s a cubist poem. She tries to break apart logic. The theme is giving new meaning to ordinary objects, she wants us to think, she uses a lot of literary devices. ... In 1982, perceived Witwatersrand type gold deposit potential caused a major staking rush in the area, with exploration focused on conglomeratic units in the Paleoproterozoic Lorrain Formation of the Cobalt Group that forms the upper part of the Huronian Supergroup. Exploration was unsuccessful and the claims were quickly abandoned. • 10. Analysis Of The Movie The Crucible Two months later, congratulatory applause deafened the newly christened law offices of Rearin McKinley Attorneys at Law. Finally, a junior partner had made it to managing partner; Conor McKinley now occupied Mr Hardwood s former office. Conor smiled as he thought to himself, I can t believe I ve made this far. Standing next to Conor s side was a beaming Bailiff Bob. Both wore matching wedding bands. Nothing would stop this power couple, now. Among those in attendance were former Judge Ricardo Sandoval, who had been nominated for State Supreme Court Judgeship, and Min jun Kim, now groomed from his original gangster like appearance to be a doting boyfriend. After two months, they still couldn t keep their hands off each other, even in public. Stuart Rutherford with Oliver Winston mingled about the conference room turned buffet table with drinks in hand and bouts of laughter. And, after all this time, Conor still had a gut feeling about that Oliver Winston. Even, the Prosecutor from the murder trial stopped by to give his accolades. • 11. The Gospel Of Jesus Christ When sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we must have a heart for God, because if we have a heart for God, we can have a heart for His people. Through evangelism, we can reach the non believers in effort to convert them over to Christianity, so they can experience the love of Jesus Christ. Evangelism is the core, the heart that leads non believers to salvation. As they repent and confess their sins, they become a part of JesusChrist family, and the power of the Holy Spirit is imparted into them (Doerksen, 2012, p. 3). Believers in many nations look to Christianity as the foundation upon which to build their societies (Yung, 2011, p. 44), and the same was true during the time period of Apostle Paul. Apostle Paul speaks to the Corinthians and Colossians of the importance of sharing the Gospel, and to make sure Christ always gets the glory. Therefore, when he addresses the people of Corinth, he explains that his authority comes from the Holy Spirit. Paul wanted the Church of Corinth to rely on the power of God, and not on their spiritual gifts they had received. His intention was not to persuade them with eloquent language, but only through power of the Gospel. In II Corinthians 4:1 4, Paul explains to the people of Corinth, because of God s mercy we do not give up, we keep pushing and preaching. In addition, he explains there is nothing deceitful about his preaching, but the Lord has blinded certain individuals, and the only way the blinders will be removed is ... However, there are many not supportive of the legislation of growth management for various reasons including government control. As quoted in the attitudes toward growth management publication, the system has also been criticized for placing the state in the role of a command and control entity, rather than the role of a facilitator and advisor to localities on planning issues (Connerly, 2004). While there remains to be a great number of supporters for growth management, many Florida residents are not in support of government intervention. • 14. Thucydides Summary There is little doubt that Thucydides is regarded as one of the best historical writers for coming up with his book, presenting facts and truth about the war even though he was a general in the Athens army. By using a unique style of writing, the author was attempting a unique style which involved being aggressively rational and giving an impersonal analysis of the historyof his times being free from religious influence. The style used in writing the book is different because the author makes the war to be understood in respect to human politics and power struggles that were taking place between the two warring factions; Athens and Sparta. The style of writing is different from how Herodotus had explained the Greek war against the Persians, putting too much emphasis on the religious side of the war. Thucydides tries to be different by describing the human factors which made the Athens side to lose the war. • 16. Analysis Of The Story The Story Of An Hour By Kate Chopin Death is the wish of some, relief of many, and the end of all. Death, which is often seen as a great evil, can sometimes be seen as something for the greater good of someone. To many, death is a liberator and a comforter. It is a journey we ll all have to embark, sooner or later. Death can be the beginning of the end to many people, an event which can bring everlasting happiness, but also a shattering sadness. The short storyThe Story of an Hour, by Kate Chopin, which was published in 1894, presents a not so common viewpoint of death. One could say that this story has brought about a brief renewing love for life with one of the main characters. On the other hand, The Moths by Helena Maria Viramontes shows a painful reaction to death, that is quite relatable to what one may usually experience. The death in The Moths can be looked at as a moment of grief in pain, but also a moment for maturity and rebirth. Moreover, The Story of an Hour depicts death as a problem solver and something that can bring unimaginable amounts of freedom. Death can be looked at as perhaps a sort of liberation that can bring about a renewal for life. In other aspects, death can be viewed as a moment of grief and pain. Lastly, death may work as a spark which brings another loved one back into your life. Renewing love for life and freedom are two things that many suddenly feel once they ve finished grieving from the loss of a loved one. As seen in Chopin s The Story of an Hour the main ... Lowering the temperature farther is the job of salt. NaCl (salt) will dissolve in water (or ice in this case) to form a solution with a lower freezing point. By analyzing modern mitochondrial DNA and working backwards, scientists have found that a woman alive in Africa 200,000 years ago had the mitochondrial DNA that is found in people alive today. The woman was named Eve and she is, what scientists call, our most recent common ancestor. The term melting pot for America came about during the early 1900s in reference to America s acceptance of all immigrants and races during the time period. Throughout history a great deal of white Americans practiced seclusion, segregation, and alienation of rights for non Anglo Saxon peoples. Raft Of The Medusa And The World Is Too Much With Us Aishah Tasneem October 20, 2015 Muharram 7, 1437 Fareeda Abdur Rahman Romanticism Romanticism emerged in the 18th 19th centuries (primarily in opposition to Neo Classism) as a way to express, as Victor Hugo said, liberalism in literature. The Romantic way of thinking emphasized freedom from rules, and individuality. Many works of art and pieces of literature were made following this theme, among them the painting, Raft of the Medusa and the poem the The World is too Much with us . The Raft of the Medusa is a painting done by Theodore Gericault in the 1800s. It is modeled after the tragedy that was the shipwreck of the French naval frigate, MГ©duse, and it depicts the survivors who were adrift on the raft. The poem, The World is too much with us is a sonnet written by the Englishman William Wordsworth in 1802. The composition is a romantic and satirical piece criticizing the people of the modern world for their materialistic values and their disregarding of nature. Both of these works are the epitome of Romanticism, as they both highlight the focal points of Romantic thought; interest in the common man, strong senses and emotions, awe of nature, celebration of the individual, and the importance of imagination. The Romantics enjoy the struggle of the common man , and judging by the attire of the men on the Raft of the Medusa , they are peasants just poor, everyday guys. These portraits vary to a certain extent and capture the exactitude of the portrait. The daguerreotype by Herman Biow shows a pose of Alexander von Humboldt. This earlier daguerreotype portrait is clear and sharp. The background is faded and the model is dressed in a dark black suit. The brilliancy of the portrait is emphasized. The only way to perfect this image would be to make the photograph more visible. Coincidentally, instead the fadedness gives the portrait tonality. The daguerreotypes at this time were more distinct to its suitor in that regards. However, the image still keeps the person in the image interested. The second image is photographed by Ludwig Angerer of Elizabeth of Austria, 1860. The veracity of the image gives depth to the composition of the portrait. The full length of this portrait is close to the appeal of what the photographer was aiming for. Elizabeth s pose reveals conventionality. The brilliance of the skylight is shown which gives the portrait truthfulness. Thirdly, Nadar photographed Theophile Gautier on salted paper. This portrait brood s personality in the way it is opposite sides of the viewer. The person posing for this image has equal shades of light and dark. The man in this portrait exudes aristocrat. Compression Stockings Affect The Clothes On The Body Compression hose also called compression stockings are specialized hosiery that is designed to help improve the circulation in the legs to prevent venous disease such as swelling, varicose veins and blood clots. They are made from elastic, and compress the legs to help the muscles keep the blood flowing back to the lungs and heart. Venous insufficiency occurs when there is too much pressure on the veins in the legs so that the wall of the vein becomes weak and the tiny valves inside the veins stop working properly. This results in the blood pooling in the vein causing it to bulge and twist. Compression hose helps reduce the pressure in the veins and prevents the veins from shutting down. Understanding the similarities of Strain Theory, amp; General Theory of Crime Angela Sampson # 2396467 Sociology 345: Social Control Professor: James Chriss Cleveland State University April 30th 2012 Abstract: The purpose is to identify the similarities between Strain theories, and General Theory of Crime. Strain was developed from the work of Durkheim and Merton and taken from the theory of anomie. Durkheim focused on the decrease of societal restraint and the strain that resulted at the individual level, and Merton studied the cultural imbalance that exists between goal and the norms of the individuals of society. General Theory of Crime , In 1990 Michael R. Gottfredson and Travis Hirschi wrote the book A General... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In essence, general strain theory proposed that an increase in strain would lead to an increase in anger, which may then lead to an increase in crime (Agnew, 1992:61). These previously mentioned goals turn into strain when the individual is faced with certain disjunctions in their life. The first of these disjunctions is the one that is the focus of previous strain theories, the disjunction between aspirations and expectations. This is founded on the principle of culturally bound goals and values that are accepted by everyone but yet not available to everyone. This idea of the American Dream then causes strain and frustration in the individual who cannot achieve this dream through legitimate means. This theory has been criticized because it does not explain middle class crime, it only focuses monetary goals, social class is the only barrier that is considered, and it does not specify why some turn to deviance. The loss of positively valued stimuli Agnew s research in the stress literature led him to the discovery that the removal of positive stimuli can also cause strain. This loss could manifest itself in the form of a death or a broken relationship with a friend or romantic partner, or it could be a result of the theft of a valued object. According to Agnew, the strain that is felt by the individual die to the loss could lead the individual to delinquency as the individual attempts to prevent its loss, ... His face was not the same he saw what drinking was doing to him, but it did not matter. There was no other solution to his problems. He just continued drinking. • 47. The Balance Of Power Theory Balance of power theory represents a body of interrelated concepts for achieving security and stability by maintaining an equal distribution of power throughout the international system. Some critics contend that the theory cannot provide guidance to states in a unipolar system since it developed out of centuries of multipolarity and decades of bipolarity. This assessment is incorrect. Although a specific conception of balance of power theory may not provide guidance, an appraisal of the concepts within its various forms suggests continuing relevance. This paper discusses balance of power theory by examining the evolution of its structural and ideational variants, and asserts that the concept remains relevant in a unipolar international system. The balance of power is a historical concept with a variety of meanings. In Thucydides account of the Melian dialogue, he indirectly refers to countries balancing in response to growing Athenian power and aggression (Thucydides, 1972). Over 1200 years later, Hobbes described balancing in reference to the ability of a confederacy of the weak to overwhelm the strong (Hobbes, 1996). Both Thucydides and Hobbes reference a type of balancing aimed at reestablishing an equilibrium of power within the international system. Gulick refers to this behavior by states as a doctrine of counterpoise, designed to ensure the survival of individual states and to prevent a state from accruing predominant power (Gulick, 1955).
