Investment And Conflict Of Romantic Relationships
Investment and Conflict in Romantic Relationships Com 620 Mark Pace and Bo Zhang Investment
Model The theory of relationship investment is an effort to understand maintenance of ongoing
relationships. This model is an expansion of Kelly and Thirbaut s (1978) interdependence theory,
which specifies that satisfaction is a function of the reward value of a relationship, relative to
expectations, and that commitment stems from the superiority of a relationship, compared with
viable alternatives. Interdependence assumes that we evaluate the rewards and costs of our own
and our partner s various behaviors in a relationship, and that both partner s actions and preferences
impact the nature of the relationship. Rusbult (1980) expanded interdependence theory to include
that commitment was determined by satisfaction, quality of alternatives, and investments with
subcategories of intrinsic, and extrinsic. Intrinsic includes example ideas like emotion and time
while extrinsic includes ideas like mutual friends and shared activities. Rustbult s expansion
included the value of resources gained through involvement in a relationship and also resources
devoted to developing the association. This model views the ending of a relationship as a loss of
resources. Further research such as longitudinal studies on the topic of investment have only
strengthened the theory (Bui, Peplau, Hill 1996). The investment model predicts that commitment
should increase as the relationship

Rhetorical Analysis Of Coming To Our Senses By Neil...
Our senses are faulty data taking devices, and they need help, states Neil deGrasse Tyson, an
American astrophysicist, author, and director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American
Museum of Natural History. In his scientific essay Coming to Our Senses, published in Natural
History Magazine, Tyson explores the idea of the five senses being limited and needing help
from technology. Through Tyson s use of ethical appeals, allusions, and hypothetical scenarios, he
is able to effectively convince the readers that humans need to use their five senses and
technology to explore and understand the world around them. Through Tyson s use of ethical
appeals, he is able to effectively build his credibility as a trusted figure. A knowledgeable and
experienced author increases the level of trust that the readers give them as a credible source of
information. Neil deGrasse Tysonis an astrophysicist and director of the Hayden Planetariumat the

experience and knowledge in the scientific field. The audience is more likely to believe and agree
with his argument because of his experience in the scientific field. In order to make his argument

Sonder is an infrequently used noun defined as the realization that each random passerby is
living a life as vivid and complex as your own populated with their own ambitions, friends,
routines, worries and inherited craziness . It s a difficult and complicated term to use, as most
people have differing interpretations of it; in my opinion, when you gain sonder you gain
perspective and empathy into the lives of everyone around you, and learn what makes them the
way they are. Everyone has this moment of realization at some point in their life, but few people
ever give sonder any real thought beyond that moment. However, some authors embrace the idea

A Statue of a Sphinx (Object E12326) A sphinx is a mythical creature with the body of a lion and
the head of a human. These creatures were built as sculptures near the temples as guardians. A
sphinx symbolizes the intelligence of man united with the physical dominance of a lion (Giblin
121). The sphinx is a purely Egyptian creation, that was first started in the 4th dynasty at about
2575 BCE (Giblin 23). In Egypt sphinxes were generally associated with the sun god and with the
king as a living image. (Zivie Coche 148). The sun god was a vital part of Egyptian theology in
almost every dynasty. The sun disk God, Aten became the monotheistic focus of Egyptian theology
while Re and Atun were very prominent Egyptian gods that also represented the sun. Whenever
sphinxes were placed in front of Egyptian temples, they had a solar symbol or significance attached
to it.
The Granite Sphinx of Ramses II wears a headdress and false beard to signify representation of a
king and serves as a protective entity to temples and pyramids. The false beard was tied to the
divinity of the Pharaoh (Redford 308). The beard is an innovation of the New Kingdom and did
not exist during the Old or the Middle Kingdom (Zivie Coche 148). Many ... Show more content on

spectacular. The monument stood outside of the Temple of Ptah along with the Colossus of

The Common Cold or Upper Respiratory Infection is as new to man, as is sickness itself. Most
Americans at one point or another have come in contact with the Common Cold or have had a

Approximately one billion cases of the Common Cold occur annually in the United States,
according to population estimates (Klemas, N., 2015). Many people never go to the Emergency
Room, Hospital, or even the Doctor s office for treatment; often, brushing the infection off and later
suffering even more from the disease. Any time a virus is contracted, one should always seek
professional help.
Even though there is said to be more than 100 viruses that cause a Common Cold, the rhinovirus is
generally the culprit that enters the body through the eyes, mouth, or nose. The rhinovirus
(Enterovirus/Picornaviridae) is one of the smallest viruses that can enter the body and cause a
Common Cold. The signs and symptoms of this mild contagious infection are nasal inflammation,
weakness, cough, and low grade fever. Approximately 28% of annual over the counter medication

Sense And Sensibility Play Summary
My impression of the play Sense Sensibility adapted by Jessica Swale was that it was almost like
a soap opera . There were tons of drama throughout the play and was also was almost two and
half hours long. It was based on a family the lives in England from the mid 90 s called the
Dashwood s. Throughout the play it was mostly based on the struggles that the Dashwood s
went through on a daily basis. The main struggle was them losing their father John Dashwood.
They lost their castle of a house and almost all of the wealth. Everything went to Mr. Dashwood
s half brother and his wife. Also, the love feuds that went on between Elinor Dashwood and
Marianne Dashwood played a huge part of the play. Sense Sensibility started off with the
Dashwood s losing their house and basically all of their money. This caused great anger and fear
for the Dashwood family. Before the family had to move out of the house one of the protagonist
Elinor Dashwood fell in love with her sister in law s brother Edward. They had to move into their
distant relatives the Middleton s family. Their house wasn t anything special and lived in a small
town. It was hard for the Dashwood s to adjust to a completely different lifestyle.... Show more

The lights didn t move with the actor. The Dashwood family were the main characters of the
play and they all wore white clothing, which made them stick out more. The director made a
good call on having them all in white because it made them seem more important than the others
and when the other played a different character it obvious. The other characters were dressed in
typical mid 90 s England wardrobe with lots of colors and pants. The scenery of the play was
based on the screen in the back of the stage. It was changed throughout different scenes. The scene
would look like you were in a house, or outside in the valley, or by the ocean. The music in the
play was when Marianne would play the piano or

Western Civilization Essay
Western Civilization: Beginnings to Present Although Western culture has been defined by both
Christian and secular values across the course of time, the West s primary goal is to achieve
economic supremacy, using Christian and secular philosophies, as well as colonization and
technological innovation as means to achieve this goal. Of the features that define western culture,
the most unique is democracy. Originating in ancient Athens, democracy created a sense of pride in
one s government which, in later centuries, would evolve into nationalism. In Athens, democracy
allowed the people to have a say in their government, furthering the unification of their empire and
thus strengthening it. Out of this democratic world came many of the... Show more content on

This however ended as Emperor Constantine adopted Christianity in the fourth century A.D. As
emperor Constantine saw that it would be more beneficial to stop persecuting the Christians and
accept them to avoid another civil war, he became a Christian. This was only the start as
Christianity spread throughout the European continent and Emperor Theodosius established it as
the official religion of Rome in 380. This proved especially beneficial for the empire as it
allowed Rome to be governed during its greatest extent. When Rome official fell in 476 to the
barbaric tribes of the Germanic region, Christianity was the uniting factor as the chaos of local
groups sought to hold power. Out of this developed a complex feudal system comprised of lords,
vassals, and serfs along with the power and wealth of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church
demanded enormous amounts of money from the people as they sought redemption in times
stricken with the Black Death and famine thus allowing the monasteries to emerge as the source of
riches and the Church as the largest landholder in all of Europe. As the Church s power grew
towards the first millennia, and had sucked the wealth from nearly all of its local citizens, they
desired to find the holy land. Despite the first commandment of thou shall not murder and the
Christian idea of turn the other cheek, the Crusades were some of the bloodiest battles in European
history. These crusades, although against Christian

Eve s Apology In Defense Of Women By Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum
In Eve s Apology in Defense of Women, an excerpt from Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum, Aemilia
Lanyer uses biblical illusions such as the story of Eve eating the forbidden fruit, as well as satirical
diction to convey a message of unjust attitudes toward the female gender. These attitudes express an
imbalanced judgement of women in religious settings, a notion that would continue to be used not
only when alluding to religion, but also in other everyday life events. Lanyer, however, uses this
satirical language to argue that Eveis only to blame as much as the malecharacters in the story,
Adam and Satan. Since being written in 1611, Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum has interested readers
of all kinds due to its incredible use of feminist diction in several different poems and paragraphs,
all of which are written by a young femaleauthor, Aemilia Lanyer. According to Subjectivity and
Women s Poetry in Early Modern England by Lynette McGrath, Lanyer was trying to sway
aristocratic dedicatees into a benevolent membership in a women s community by poetically
invoking the attractive and idealized discourses of maternity, religion and women s nurturing
love for each other (page 211). In Eve s Apology in Defense of Women the reader can recognize
this heavy use of religious context to persuade her audience to grasp this idea of building a women
s community via the unjust treatment reserved in the very first book of Genesis. The first line of
the poem, which reads Now Pontius Pilate is to

Willy Loman Critical Analysis
An individual s ability to foresee into the future can often be regarded as a gift, but this ability
can also be a curse. One can either anticipate or fear for the future. Oftentimes, fear motivates
individuals to create and achieve a vision of what they desire for the future. In the play, Death of a
Salesman by Arthur Miller, an aging salesman, Willy Loman, struggles to earn a living as well as
struggle to maintain his relationship with his family. When an individuals feardictate how they
should think and act, this can lead to the inability of the individual to make appropriate life altering
decisions. If an individual clings on to their fears they maintain their foresight, however, when one
gambles with their fears they may lose their vision for their future and may lead to a desirable
outcome.
Initially, Willy Loman is revealed to have been abandoned by his father and later on his brother
when he first revisits the past, establishing the root of his fears. Willy s abandonment raised multiple
questions and issues that he was unable to find the answers to. This event developed his deep
insecurity about being well liked and ironically prompted him to abandon his family. Willy s
perception towards appearances led him to be unsuccessful in business as well as having
disconnected relationships with those around him. Willy has built an unattainable expectation that
is contradictory to his nature and it began with him clinging on to being a salesman knowing that

herself recognized that she would become old and loose her current body to age, When it states
Her age became to much to say in years and, like a forest s, it would be told.(Rilke 3) It

this burden. Rilke depicts the moments Sibylla is going through when in the second stanza of his

Social Media And The Media
However, Contrary to the idea that social media creates a polarizing filter bubble, exposing
people to only a narrow range of opinions, 70 percent of Millennials say that their social media
feeds are comprised of diverse viewpoints evenly mixed between those similar to and different
from their own. (American Press Institute, 2015, p. 3) This disputes the notion that everybody who
engages in social media receive a uniform message, and these diverse viewpoints also enables users
to become judicious in what content they are consuming. In the same American Press Institute

The study found Americans are selective consumers with behaviors varying reliant on the topic.
With this in mind we can hope groups other than millennials are not receiving a likeminded point
of view even if a clear proclamation cannot be made. All in all a multitude of voices talking
about assorted topics can only be good for public discourse, and could potentially impact
mobilization. The preceding paragraphs were aimed at providing a baseline of knowledge, show
that social media provides a wide variety of information, and to establish that its worthy of
investigation. At the moment there is a lack of research aimed at determining the impact of the
public s use of social media on Agenda setting, and priming. Yet, there has been research
regarding social media and mobilization that is quite promising. Thus far, mobilization is where
social media has seen its greatest impact. Mobilization is defined as, the process by which
candidates, parties, activists and groups induce other people to participate (Rosenstone Hansen,
1993, p. 25). When taking the definition for mobilization into account it is easy to understand why
social media has shown promise in this area. Social media supplies activists with the ability to
circulate information, and information is the means by which political activists recruit new
members. Social media also creates vast networks that . . . allow people to assemble as individuals,

Yellow Dung Fly Breeding
Success of male yellow dung fly breeding.
Introduction
Looking at the yellow dung fly, Scathophaga stercoraria, it is seen that the species experiences
sexual dimorphism in the form of both size and colour. This gives changes between the males
and females that are specially adapted to give them the best chance of producing offspring.
Males are considerably larger than the females and have clearly defining yellow hair along the
abdomen, whereas females are smaller and are more of an olive green colour. Copulation for
this species occurs on large mammal faeces as it acts as a source of nutrition for larvae once
eggs are hatched. The right to breed with a female is highly competitive among yellow dung flies
and only the most suited mate or the most opportunistic mate will be able to pass on its sperm.
Assessing the size of males is key when looking at the mating probability of the yellow dung fly ...

Mean HTL of the 4 different male yellow dung fly categories. The mean size for males found on
the faeces is clearly larger than those off the pat, and the mean HTL is the largest in paired males
on the pat.
Looking at Fig 1. it can be speculated that larger males are more successful at copulating, however
with the data presented there is not a large enough sample size over the two sites to confirm this.
Males on the pat are larger on both instances compared to males off the pat but due to
overlapping of error bars, it cannot be stated with confidence that they are indeed more
successful. The only statement that can be made with confidence is that paired males on the pat
are considerably larger than solo males off the pat, this can be stated as the error bars do not
overlap. With only one sample of paired males off the pat, there is no way to know if error bars
would overlap with any other group if the sample size was larger. The paired males off the pat then
can be only taken as an estimation because of this.

Persuasive Essay On Cold Weather Driving
Cold Weather Driving: Make it Safer in the 2017 Honda Accord Sedan
If you live anywhere that the snow is starting to fall or the roads are getting icy, you know how
important it is to have a vehicle that is designed to make winter driving safer. The 2017 Honda
Accord is one such vehicle.
Safety First
Honda is known for its commitment to safety, so it should be no surprise to you that the Accord
Sedan scores a five star safety rating from the National Highway Transportation Safety
Administration (NHTSA) and was a 2016 Insurance Institute Highway Safety Top Safety Pick.
These accolades offer you confidence that the Honda Accord Sedan is built to protect you while

Of course, those two safety features are extremely important, but Honda goes even further and adds
other attributes like brake assist and electronic brake force distribution for help with a hard brake.
The addition of the Collision Mitigation Braking Systemв„ў,standard on all but two of the models,
makes sure that you stop by delivering brake pressure if sensors detect an obstacle in your path like
another car.
Other systems like the Lane Departure Warning let you know when you may be drifting off course
and into trouble.
When you re driving along, you may not feel a tire that is losing pressure from running over a
sharp item, so the Tire Pressure Monitoring System can detect and determine whether you re
losing air pressure in an individual tire. This allows you time to get off to a safe place where you
can replace the tire before you have a flat. Getting a flat tire at highway speeds can be very
dangerous no matter how many safety features your vehicle has on it.
Stability
Much of your safety relies upon the stability of your vehicle, and the Honda Accord Sedan is
equipped with a suspension that is built to keep you upright and moving

Lymphangiomas
Lymphangiomas Recently physicians at Lucile Packard Children s Hospital at Stanford found a
potential treatment to Lymphangiomas. Lymphangiomas is the overgrowth of the lymph channels,
which can cause airway constriction, and other aspects to the heart and lung function. The
lymphatic systems function is to filter out pathogens in the blood. Vessels of the lymphatics are a
one way system allowing fluids to come in but not to flow out. The issue lies in when these
lymph vessels swell or begin to back up. In the case of lymphangiomas, these channels swell and
get abnormally large. At Stanford, a common drug used for erectile dysfunction called sildenafil
has been found to treat symptoms of lymphangiomas. The topic that is now up for debate is that
if the use of sildenafil or commonly known Viagra should be used as a treatment for
lymphangiomas in children and infants. The aftermath of using sildenafil has many effects that
can be consider positive. Sildenafil has and is being used to treat erectile dysfunction, which is
due to not enough blood, pumped to the penis or there being a blockage in blood being pumped to
the penis. Sildenafil is also being used to treat high blood pressure in the lung. By looking at this

Reasons For European Exploration
SCHWEIKART ALLEN 1: City on a Hill What were the reasons for European exploration?
Explain Gold, Glory, and God. They basic reasons for Europeans exploring was because of the
phrase Gold, God, and Glory . The gold was promised to the explorers by the king and queen of
their country if they were to find new land; some went believing that their duty to the people of
the new land was to introduce them to their religion and bring god to them by spreading their
faith; and lastly the glory was the idea that the adventure of claiming land would make them rich

Literature Review On Fascism
Literature Review
1. Walter laquer in his book Fascism discusses fascism and defines it clearly. In his book he
described what sociology is and how it worked during that time. It talks about its poetical and
social views. It gives information on Mussolini in an objective format and describes fascism s gain
in popularity and power. It mainly concentrates on what fascism is and how to define it. It talks
about the good points of it and the high ideals that it first had before it became a corrupt quest for
power over the people it was supposed to help. It also tells how it was supposed to make all
workers equal and how it went wrong by corrupt officials.
2. Eco Umberto in his article shows today s fascism or Ur Fascism in many ways. It offers many
new ideas about fascism and how it is tied to nationalism and selective populism. It offers deeper
meaning in explaining fascism other than simple contempt for others . This site shows that
fascism is faceted so that it has many different levels of oppression. It helps to understand why
fascism is so object able. It also has links to other fascism sites.

Wilhelm Reich in his book The Mass Psychology of Fascism described that Fascism appealed to
the large masses of the poor and working class in the early to mid twentieth century. They
enjoyed the ideals becoming equal and the elimination of unemployment by the use of
government work camps, and the idea that their ethnic group was the best and that all others
were inferior. Also the public was brainwashed by the elimination of all other political parties.
Education was also changed to favor fascism by censoring in schools and widespread
propaganda. It also talks about how fascism was easily accepted by the Germans. The Germans
already had a high sense of nationality and morality. Fascism took many of the basic beliefs that
were held by the Germans and Italians and used them to bring popularity to the Fascist

Substance Abuse Case Study Essay
1.Well, it is more than obvious that Jen has some issues in her life that she tries to suppress with
alcohol or that she tried to overcome with marijuana usage. Moreover, it is important to look at
all aspects of her problems. Smoking marijuana in order to reduce stress (more likely to forget
about her abuse as a kid) through her high school time doesn t look like a big issue, but it might
left a pattern that Jen picked up later in her life in order to deal with her problems. She obviously
learned that facing problems through substance usage is her way to go and to deal with the same,
which is completely wrong. In my opinion, as I stated, smoking marijuana does not present a
substance abuseproblem, but rather a core for something that became substance abuse later in Jen s
life. She states that she can go couple of days without alcohol, but also that she uses it in order to
reduce her stress. Furthermore, Jen feels anxious about the times when she does not use the alcohol.

Biblical perspective about drugs and alcohol is interesting. It is well known that the Bible doesn
t mention anything about marijuana, cocaine, LSD, or any other drugs that people are
consuming today. That is the reason why many people do not see it as a sin. However, really the
application to drugs is obvious: all the substances that compromise our bodies and minds are out
of bounds! It is the same with alcohol. Scripture instructs us to avoid being high and buzzed. For
example, Paul writes: Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled
with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). The principle behind the passage is simply this: Stay away from
stuff that will confuse your thoughts, weaken your inhibitions and make you more vulnerable to
sin. If we follow this pattern it is more than obviouse to see the sin in Jen s life. Besides her own
sins, we can that it has been sinned against Jen through her family, from her sexual abuse to
substance abuse that she was exposed

Malvolio and the Way he is Treated in William...
Malvolio and the Way he is Treated in William Shakespeare s The Twelfth Night
Malvolio is an extremely complicated and difficult character to study because of his mixed,
complex personality. At times in the play he seems very reliable and loyal but sometimes he seems
foolish and weak, and in many scenes in the play the audience are encouraged to laugh at him, his
actions or his words. He is not portrayed as a lovable character, which makes the play funnier.
Also, the way that Malvolio seems humourless actually makes him humorous. Just Malvolio s
name can give you some idea of his personality, it means in Latin evil wishing!

So, from being rude and offensive earlier on in the scene to Feste, he is now obedient and loyal.
Malvolio could, at this point, be called two faced. His personality changes depending on whom he

Act II Scene 2 consists of a conversation between Malvolio and Viola/Cesario. Malvolio seems
very proud and pleased to be telling Viola/Cesario that Olivia does not want him to bring messages
from Orsino any more. Of course he does not realise that the implications of this message are
actually the complete opposite! He says:
And one thing more, that you never be so hardy to
come again in his affairs, unless it be to report your
lord s taking of this. (Lines 8 10)
Malvolio is then rude and selfish to Viola/Cesario because he obviously feels that he is more
important than him. Instead of handing Viola/Cesario the ring, he throws it onto the floor.
In the next scene, Act II Scene 3 Sir Toby and Sir Andrew are drinking, they persuade Feste to
sing for them but Maria is wary and warns them of the trouble they could be in. Malvolio is sent
down by Olivia to stop their unruly behaviour. Of course, Malvolio takes this opportunity to scold
all of them and be generally impolite to them:

Pre Modern East Asia Essay
Scholars such as John K. Fairback and David Kang have argued that the theory of the tribute
system can explain most of pre modern East Asian history. However, there was an interesting
period of pre modern East Asian history that cannot be fully explained by the tribute system. This
was the Imjin War of 1592 1598, also known as the greatest international conflict in pre modern
East Asia. If pre modern East Asian countries were tributaries under the hegemon that is China, they
would not rebel against their hegemon. As Japan rebelled by attempting to conquer China through
Korea, the tribute system cannot explain the Imjin War.
This essay will use an alternate theory, a theory of self interest, to discuss the international relations
of Japan, Korea, and China during the Imjin War (1592 1598). During the Imjin War, each nation
acted out of its own self interest rather than as a result of diplomatic hierarchy. In this alternate
theory, the self interest of each nation stems from the hierarchy within the nations themselves.
Because there was no democracy in East Asia in the late sixteenth century, each nation had a ruler
who had consolidated central power. Also, because Confucian nations greatly valued prestige,

Analysis Of The Movie White Liar By Miranda Lambert
Picking Up the Pieces Picking Up the Pieces is the film being produced to document my life. I
have never put much thought into how my life would be portrayed or even documented.
However, as I sit here thinking about what music I would use for the soundtrack, I start thinking
about all of the things that I have been through in my life. All of those hurdles that I had to climb
over and the songs that have so much meaning start to flow through my mind. There are many
songs to choose from, but I narrow them down to the top four that I feel set the mood of how I
have picked up the pieces of my life from a tragic divorce and moved on to now being a thriving
non traditional college student seeking to become a Hospitality Manager. The first song that I
have chosen is White Liar by Miranda Lambert because this song represents what I went through
during my very tragic divorce. Lambert is an American country music artist who co wrote this
song with Natalie Hemby. The song was released in August of 2009. The reason I chose this
song is because the words remind me of what I went through when I found out that my husband
of six years had been cheating on me and how I felt. Lambert sings, Hey white liar, the truth
comes out a little at a time and it spreads just like a fire. My husband had been cheating on me and
the entire time, I sensed something was wrong, but he continued to tell me that I was wrong.
According to him, they were just friends. In reality, I too was also a white liar

Tyrannosaurus Rex Fossils
In 2005, Palaeontologist Mary Schweitzer and her team made the discovery of finding original
soft tissue, including blood vessels, in a Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil in Montana. Many of
Schweitzer s fellow scientists insisted that she had been mistaken because of previous theories of
how fossils were preserved. The fossilwas buried in a permeable sandstone, where groundwater
could get in. Since organic material is quickly broken down in water, the soft tissue should have
decayed quickly under the conditions. When an animal dies, the soft tissues (skin) decays and
disappears over time, while hard tissues (bone) may gradually obtain minerals from the
environment and become fossils. Evolutionists scrambled to propose a reason on how the soft
tissue could have been completely preserved in pristine condition (Fields, H. 2006) (Morris, D.
2005). The extensive study of bones from New Zealand s extinct giant Moa bird calculated that the
lifespan of DNA should be measured in thousands, not millions of years. Therefore the unfossilised

The skin showed evidence of stripes and perhaps soft tissue. Apparently scientists stated that it
died on the banks of Hell s Creek, where its body was rapidly buried under accumulating
sediment and should have been wiped out by the decay process. However, the mineralization had
been so rapid that it is trapped and preserved as the waterlogged soil buried it in before the body
could decay much, thus ensuring preservation. Although fossils containing organic compounds or
mummified soft tissues have been discovered before, the presence of both is extremely rare
(National Geographic News, 2017) (Charles, Q. 2009). The fossilised soft tissues resemble those

Richard Nixon s Improper Behavior
The clear lesson for modern policymakers that can be derived from these episodes of improper
behaviour is that subordinates should have clearly defined responsibilities and be subject to
stringent oversight. Many of the so called White House horrors that occurred during Nixon s term
of office were not committed or even endorsed by him personally, but rather were a natural result
of the chaotic structure of his staff secretariat. As Farrell notes, the accepted historical record is
that Nixon did not have prior knowledge of the Watergate break in, as he sounds genuinely baffled
on the tapes when he is first made aware of the event. The firewall between the president and his
aides ultimately created an arrangement in which Nixon was unable... Show more content on

Clearly, Nixon s fleeting sense of morality during Watergate demonstrates a failure of leadership
of the most severe magnitude. But, to be fair to Nixon, he was a genuine visionary in the field of
foreign policy and his leadership in opening the door to China in 1972 is often regarded as a
stroke of genius. Mao himself acknowledged that only Nixon could go to China . Nixon s legacy,
therefore, is a curious mixture of startling success and abject failure. With this in mind, it seems
there are two essential lessons that policymakers should draw from Nixon s period in office. The
first is that they must always maintain discipline among their staff to avoid creating situations in
which individuals become empowered to conduct themselves unethically with impunity. Secondly,
a leader should be aware of his personal flaws and seek to compensate for them to ensure that they
do not become a caricature of themselves. Had Nixon followed these principles, perhaps his
reputation would not be in the mangled state that it is

Nov. 4, you re going to find out, pal. Former longtime welterweight champion St Pierre hasn t

which he won by decision and promptly stepped away from the UFC. There have been moments
where fans thought they might see his return, but none of those were as real as challenging
Bisping for the title. There were many rumors circulating about his delay from returning, but the
only person who really has the answers is St Pierre himself. St Pierre won 12 straight fights from
2007 to 2013, a time in which he absolutely ruled the welterweight division. The only two losses
on his record, to Matt Hughes and Matt Serra, he avenged in convincing fashion. Aside Hughes
and Serra, the 36 year old has defeated high profile names such as Nick Diaz, BJ Penn and

Once this is computed he can add it to the fixed cost to determine his total cost. The marginal cost

Communism In Albania Research Paper
According to the Dictionary.com, communism is defined as a system of social organization in
which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and

Ever since Communism ended after the election in 1992, Albania has been struggling to recover

Compare And Contrast The Storm By Kate Chopin And Sexy
The storm by Kate Chopin and Sexy by Jhumpa Lahiri The Storm is short story written by Kate
Chopin. It is a story featuring a family living in Louisiana. The family consists of a husband,
Bobinot, wife Calixta, and their son Bibi. The story starts with an approaching storm when Bibi
and his father are at a local store and Calixta is all alone home. As the storm starts, Alcee, Calixta
s old boyfriend gets stuck at her house because of the raging storm. In the middle of the storm,
Alcee and Calixta make out and have a sexual intercourse and as the storm stops, Alcee leaves
while Bobinot and Bibi arrive home. The story is about betrayal, affair, and the role of women in
the society. Sexy is a short story written by Jhumpa Lahiri. The story is about extramarital affairs
and the meaning of the word sexy. The story begins with Miranda and her friend Laxmi who
continuously tells her about her cousin who is being left by her husband for a younger woman.

The two stories each offer a different insight on the role of women in the society. In The Storm,
Chopin offers an insight on how women were treated during the 19th century. The story was set
during this period and women were always treated differently in the society. The story starts when
Calixta is at home taking care of household chores while the husband and the son are away from
home. A woman was only supposed to be a housewife and nothing more. Throughout Kate Chopin
s story, Calixta is seen performing household chores which have been labeled as women s work.

The Theory Of Nursing Care
Nursing care through theory has continual made changes to provide the best care for patients across
the spectrum. From nursing models, to concepts, to evidence based practices that have stemmed
from theories, nursing care advances have come a long way. Theories have been the fundaments of
nursing to help nurses provide efficient care through structure , unity , assessing, planning, and
implementing interventions (White Zaccagnini, 2014).This paper will discuss how theories have
guided patient centered care in helping decrease infections in cancer who have central lines that
developed chemotherapy induced neutropenia.
There have been many advances in oncology care; unfortunately infections from healthcare settings
and the community are a major cause of hospitalizations and death in patients receiving
chemotherapy treatment via central lines. As healthcare providers, preventing infection with
patients who develop chemotherapy induced neutropenia can significantly decrease mortality and
morbidity for patients with cancer (Bush, Davis, Friese, Gillespie, Nirenberg, Rice, 2009).
Oncology nurses play a vital role in educating other healthcare providers, patients and family
members, on chemotherapy side effect with patients who are neutropenic, especially handling the
central line.
Fawcett described four core concepts common to the individual paradigms, patient environment
health nursing, that were derived from existing nursing theories (Fawcett, 1984). The concept of the

The Newest Powered Commercial By Coca Cola Co.
Every professional athlete has his own story which made him as we see him now. Some
Journeys were more difficult than others. However, the common keywords between all of them
are the hard work and determination. Coca Cola Co. s PowerAde started its campaign Just a kid
in the beginning of last year. PowerAde has used inspirational stories of professional athlete,
who used to have a very hard start and they made their path into fame and success, to deliver a
message to everyone that no one has chosen his start but we all can decide our termination. The
newest powered commercial tells the story of Seattle Seahawk football player Jimmy Graham,
who had a very tough upbringing in a group house in North Carolina to a superstar in the NFL.
This paper is going to analyze that commercial and dive inside it to get deep meaning and catch the
subtle message beyond its scenes. One of the meanings of this commercial is demonstrating the
notion of the American dream. The mythical believe that anyone can start from the bottom and by
continuing hard work, he can achieve his goal and attain wealth and possible fame. This meaning
has been shown at the beginning of the commercial when it is opened on Jimmy Graham as a boy
enters the Goldsboro community orphanage in North Carolina where he has been beaten up and
bullied by other older boys. While that happens, the narrator was telling the story of a mouse who
fell in a bucket of cream. He tried to survive, but because the cream was thick he

In The Tigris River, The Ilisu Dam Along With Other Dams
In the Tigris River, the Ilisu Dam along with other dams has become a plan to sustain a water
reservoir for the citizens of Turkey. Unfortunately, it has led to an increasing number of ecological
impacts downstream. The project began in August of 2006 and has been met with much
controversy, yet certain instances of how the damaffects the surrounding life including people and
other organisms has become definite. With International Environmental Impact Assessments calling
to be revised, but to no avail, it begins to make one investigate the risks of the construction of the

Unfortunately, some of the companies like VA Tech and DSI have had histories of forcibly
removing thousands to millions of people from their homes. Even worse flooding of the reservoirs
sometimes causes the surrounding areas where residence still occupied to be submerged killing
those who remain, according to Maggie Ronayne from the report, The Cultural and Environmental
Impact of Large Dams in Southwest Turkey. More will now be discussed of the many ecological
impacts the Ilisu has on the communities of animal and plant life. In the same report written by
Ronayne, she stated that a requirement of some international guidelines for the dam was to consult
with the women of the area prior to construction. The companies falsified claims of speaking with
the women. When asked on the conversations, they said the women agreed with building the dams
because they wanted dishwaters. This was to imply that the women s major priority was to
relinquish the burden of washing dishes, a task already stereotyped for women. Sadly, when the
Kurdish Human Rights Project spoke with actual women from the surrounding areas, their opinions
were quite different from what was said by the VA Tech. The impoverished areas could not even
afford dishwashers, and felt the dam would do more harm to the land and their community than
what was already happening.

Literary Elements In The Mysterious Stranger By Mark Twain
Mark Twain s The Mysterious Stranger is a novella featuring the experiences three young boys
have with a supernatural creature named Satan. Mark Twain, whose writings had begun to reflect
the darkness that resided in his mind, attempted several versions of the story and died before it
was finished. His editors took over and wrote the rest before it was finally published in 1916.
Possessing literary elements of strong narrativestructure, unique setting, complex characterization
and dark romanticism, this narrative made for an engrossing and peculiar account of Satan. These
elements are furthermore crucial to the analysis and deeper understanding of what exists within the
text.
Narrative structure is the foundation for a story; it provides the framework and how the text is
presented to the readers. In The Mysterious Stranger, Twain takes his audience to the winter of
1590 in the Austrian village of Eseldorf. Three boys, Nikolaus, Seppi, and Theodor have multiple
encounters with a handsome, stunning creature named Satan, who claims to be an angel. They
are amazed at all the magic Satan is capable of and the stories he tells them, and the boys become
very quickly attached. They find themselves witnessing the work of Satan as he alters the villagers
lives, such as the Priest, the astrologer, Ursula and Marget, and even Nikolaus. While his work
seems to always end in disaster, he gives a plethora of excuses to soothe the boys minds.
Throughout the story, Satan constantly brings

Rational Choice Theory Versus Social Control Theory
Rational choice theory and social control theory both show why an individual may commit a
criminal act, but they both also draw criticism of their approach. Rational choice theory critics point
out that The first problem with the theory has to do with explaining collective action. That is, if
individuals simply base their actions on calculations of personal profit, why would they ever choose
to do something that will benefit others more than themselves? (Crossman, 2015). The theory
focuses only on the individual s mindset and doesn t take into account any of their social structure.
The society an individual grows up in may make them more prone to commit crime. Social control

The Bacteria Escherichia Coli ( E. Coli )
Question 1
In the past scientist have used the bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli) in Synthetic Biology to
allow the bacterial species to recognise and respond to light frequencies providing greater
knowledge of complex biological systems (Levskaya et al. 2005). E. coli is a suitable chassis to
express Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) as the bacteria s plasmid helps to establish GFP
(Chavshin et al. 2013). The bacterial plasmid is a maltose binding protein that helps E. coli and
GFP fuse together and allows for detection of gene expression and controlling internal
environments (Feilmeier et al. 2000). As GFP is a useful biological indicator due to its
fluorescent structure (Mazzola et al. 2005) and through the ability of E. coli responding to light,
GFP is easily expressed through the process of light stimulation (Lee, J et al. 2013). Through the
unique structure and functions found within E. coli, it allows for successful expression of GFP
making E. coli a suitable base organism.
Question 2
Jellyfish (Aequorea victoria) naturally produce GFP (Zupen et al. 2004) allowing for extraction
of the organisms genes and protein to engineer a bacteria that can produce GFP. Scientists are
able to blind a bacterial species for example E. coli with GFP by cloning the genes found within
jellyfish that produce Green Florescent Protein and insert it into a chosen bacterial species (Zupen
et al. 2004). Through the expression of the GFP gene in other organisms, synthetic biology can be

A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen
Dana Schrenker O Connor April 20, 2010 A Doll s House
A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen, is a play about a woman who realizes that she is worth more than
she has been given credit. Her whole life she was treated like a little doll; too fragile to do
anything serious, too frail to be troubled with real business. She was the wife, mother and
homemaker. The only things she was perceived as capable of were running the home, raising the
children and looking pretty. This was a common stereotype for women in the 1880 s. Women
were treated as possessions, not people. Women had a specific role they had to fill. They had to
look just so, act just so, raise the children in a certain way, and keep up the house in a perfect ...

She is a woman who is devoted to her husband and family. The play shows a sad, yet hopeful
world for women, one in which social progress is already under way, and Nora Helmer is just an
example of a modern minded, independent woman that wanted to cast off her chains and
become her own woman. She succeeds, although she ends up hurting her children and family in
the process. In today s society, many women are in a situation similar to Nora s. Although many
people have accepted women as being equal, there are still those in modern America who are
doing their best to suppress the feminist revolution. Torvald is an example of men who are only
interested in their appearance and the amount of control they have over a person. These our the
men that are holding society down by not caring about the feelings of others. But Torvald is not
the only guilty party. Nora, although very submissive, is also very manipulative. She makes
Torvald think he is much smarter and stronger, but in reality, she thinks herself to be quite crafty
as far as getting what she wants. However, when the door is slammed, Torvald is no longer
exposed to Nora s manipulative nature. He then comes to the realization of what true love and
equality are, and that they cannot be achieved with people like Nora and himself together. When
everyone finally views males and females as equals, and when neither men nor women overuse
their power of gender that society gives them, is when true

Autistic Friendly Space Essay

Designing the Space for Autism
According to the Center for Disease Control, one in sixty eight American children are diagnosed
with autism. Those with autism are highly sensitive to sight, sound, as well as touch and this can
make it difficult for individuals on the spectrum to function within an enclosed space. Finding the
right balance is key when designing an autistic friendly space, as autistic individuals can have a
strong aversion to change. Having too flexible of an environment can invoke fear if the
environment is always changing. It is important, when designing for autism, to offer both flexibility
and variety and be sensitive to sensation and stimulus.
Since autistic individuals perceive lighting, colors, and patterns differently, ... Show more content

Strike a balance between having large, open spaces and offering small, intimate spaces. By offering
variety, you allow for flexibility and can more easily accommodate the needs and sensitivities of
each autistic individual.
2.Autistic individuals are also sensitive to the feel of physical objects, and while this sensitivity
varies from person to person, you can strike a happy medium by favoring the use of natural
materials and textiles. Lean more towards the use of wood, rubber, wool, porcelain, cork, and
rubber.
3.Keep in the mind the acoustics, as for many autistic individuals this can be distracting and over
stimulating. The hum of fluorescent lighting, the sound of an air conditioning or heating unit, the
sound of someone eating, footsteps, or even hearing multiple forms of sound at once can be
maddening, distracting, and can even cause pain. Many autistic individuals suffer from headaches
and can become agitated when they are inundated with multiple forms of sound.
4.Provide withdrawal, or isolation, spaces where one can go to re center when they have become
over stimulated and overwhelmed. It is also important to design these rooms to be as soundproof as

Techniques such as irrigation, intercropping, and crop rotation have progressively increased
efficiency in agriculture, maintaining the potential growth for global agribusiness. However, over
the last couple of centuries the industrialization of farming techniques and a growing population
saw the shift into conventional farming methods. The shift created major problems of economic
instability, climate change and pressures from farms to produce greater yields. The use of
conventional farming leaves the rural land eroded and lifeless because the farmers continuously put
high input of energy, synthetic chemicals, and genetically modified organisms to just keep on
producing a high quaintly crop. The farmers have now found themselves locked in an everlasting
cycle of loans and debt. Therefor the influence of history in time changed the dynamics of farming
in not sustaining agribusiness, but due to these past events as a world we are now starting to adopt
sustainable farming practices. These practices are influenced through our local communities,
countries and United Nation in creating a sustainable global agriculture.
Costs in agribusiness will continue to increase at a rate far from what our population is growing.

Physicality and Emotional Attachment in Shakespeare s...
Physicality and Emotional Attachment in Shakespeare s Sonnet 46
In Sonnet 46 of his works about the blond young man, William Shakespeare presents a unique
view on the classic debate about physical lust versus emotional love. The poet struggles to decide
if his feelings are based upon superficial desire and infatuation, represented by the eye (1), or true
love independent of the physical world, symbolized by the heart (1). With a deft movement from
violent imagery in the first two lines to the civilized language of law, Shakespeare dismisses the
commonly accepted view of a battle between the eye and the heart. The diction of warfare denotes
two very separate alien sides clashing in destructive confrontation. ... Show more content on

He even chooses to modify war (1) with the word mortal (1), signifying a conflict to the death
with no possibility for reconciliation or pacification. But in the next line he contradicts himself.
Though the poet continues to utilize martial imagery such as conquest (2), his choice of verbs
subtly changes the meaning. [D]ivide (2) suggests that both parties in the conflict will receive
some portion of the prize, an unlikely occurrence if the eye and heart are truly in mortal war (1).
Shakespeare underscores this change in direction by substituting a trochee for the standard iamb as
the initial foot of the line. Already, the poet is shifting focus away from the idea of warfare and
onto the image of a courtroom.
The second quatrain completes that movement and establishes equality between the two sides.
Words of violence are conspicuously absent from this point on in the poem, replaced by legal
vocabulary, such as plead (5), deny (7), and lies (8). No longer bitter enemies, the eye and the heart
become the plaintiff and the defendant (7) in a civil dispute over the possession of Shakespeare s
love. The diction in this section of the poem also serves to contradict the traditional negative
connotations of infatuation. Physical attraction is often portrayed as course or unclean, but
Shakespeare disagrees. He describes eyes, the tangible representation

Steven Spielberg And Schindler s List Comparison
Can t I Be Both?
The career of Steven Spielberg has been vast. Spanning five decades, he has crossed genres with
more success than most of his contemporaries. In the grand scheme of cinema I believe that those
who are drawn to his masterful work can be categorized into two groups. This partition between
the two revolves around his seminal classic Schindler s List and separates his career into two
parts. While his films, early and recent alike, follow common themes; there is also a subtle divide.
These themes ranging from the lost boy to obsessions to family issues have been orchestrated
throughout the majority of his films. For the purpose of this essay let s call them Pre 93 and Post
93: the former being prior to 1993 and Schindler s List, the latter being everything 1993 and on. The
aforementioned themes, along with significant moments within the director s personal life, paint a
picture of a man evolving within his work.

  • 3. Investment And Conflict Of Romantic Relationships Investment and Conflict in Romantic Relationships Com 620 Mark Pace and Bo Zhang Investment Model The theory of relationship investment is an effort to understand maintenance of ongoing relationships. This model is an expansion of Kelly and Thirbaut s (1978) interdependence theory, which specifies that satisfaction is a function of the reward value of a relationship, relative to expectations, and that commitment stems from the superiority of a relationship, compared with viable alternatives. Interdependence assumes that we evaluate the rewards and costs of our own and our partner s various behaviors in a relationship, and that both partner s actions and preferences impact the nature of the relationship. Rusbult (1980) expanded interdependence theory to include that commitment was determined by satisfaction, quality of alternatives, and investments with subcategories of intrinsic, and extrinsic. Intrinsic includes example ideas like emotion and time while extrinsic includes ideas like mutual friends and shared activities. Rustbult s expansion included the value of resources gained through involvement in a relationship and also resources devoted to developing the association. This model views the ending of a relationship as a loss of resources. Further research such as longitudinal studies on the topic of investment have only strengthened the theory (Bui, Peplau, Hill 1996). The investment model predicts that commitment should increase as the relationship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our senses are faulty data taking devices, and they need help, states Neil deGrasse Tyson, an American astrophysicist, author, and director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History. In his scientific essay Coming to Our Senses, published in Natural History Magazine, Tyson explores the idea of the five senses being limited and needing help from technology. Through Tyson s use of ethical appeals, allusions, and hypothetical scenarios, he is able to effectively convince the readers that humans need to use their five senses and technology to explore and understand the world around them. Through Tyson s use of ethical appeals, he is able to effectively build his credibility as a trusted figure. • 6. Courtney Hunt s Frozen River, And Edwidge Danticat s The... Sonder is an infrequently used noun defined as the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness . It s a difficult and complicated term to use, as most people have differing interpretations of it; in my opinion, when you gain sonder you gain perspective and empathy into the lives of everyone around you, and learn what makes them the way they are. Everyone has this moment of realization at some point in their life, but few people ever give sonder any real thought beyond that moment. However, some authors embrace the idea of sonder, writing their novels so as to focus on how sonder impacts people s perspective on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are to blame for this destruction, we who don t speak your tongue and don t know how to keep quiet either. We who didn t come by boat, who dirty up your doorsteps with our dust, who break your barbed wire. We who came to take your jobs, who dream of wiping your shit, who long to work all hours. We who fill your shiny clean streets with the smell of food, who brought you violence you d never known, who deliver your dope, who deserve to be chained by neck and feet. Although the note helps to change the cop s opinion regarding immigrants enough to let them go free, what I feel clinches the cop s decision is the fact that Makina is the note s author. • 7. Sphinx Research Paper Olufemi Palmer Dr. Josef Wegner NELC 062 3 March 2017 A Statue of a Sphinx (Object E12326) A sphinx is a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. These creatures were built as sculptures near the temples as guardians. A sphinx symbolizes the intelligence of man united with the physical dominance of a lion (Giblin 121). The sphinx is a purely Egyptian creation, that was first started in the 4th dynasty at about 2575 BCE (Giblin 23). In Egypt sphinxes were generally associated with the sun god and with the king as a living image. (Zivie Coche 148). The sun god was a vital part of Egyptian theology in almost every dynasty. The sun disk God, Aten became the monotheistic focus of Egyptian theology while Re and Atun were very prominent Egyptian gods that also represented the sun. Whenever sphinxes were placed in front of Egyptian temples, they had a solar symbol or significance attached to it. The Granite Sphinx of Ramses II wears a headdress and false beard to signify representation of a king and serves as a protective entity to temples and pyramids. The false beard was tied to the divinity of the Pharaoh (Redford 308). The beard is an innovation of the New Kingdom and did not exist during the Old or the Middle Kingdom (Zivie Coche 148). Many ... • 10. Sense And Sensibility Play Summary My impression of the play Sense Sensibility adapted by Jessica Swale was that it was almost like a soap opera . There were tons of drama throughout the play and was also was almost two and half hours long. It was based on a family the lives in England from the mid 90 s called the Dashwood s. Throughout the play it was mostly based on the struggles that the Dashwood s went through on a daily basis. The main struggle was them losing their father John Dashwood. They lost their castle of a house and almost all of the wealth. Everything went to Mr. Dashwood s half brother and his wife. Also, the love feuds that went on between Elinor Dashwood and Marianne Dashwood played a huge part of the play. Sense Sensibility started off with the Dashwood s losing their house and basically all of their money. This caused great anger and fear for the Dashwood family. Before the family had to move out of the house one of the protagonist Elinor Dashwood fell in love with her sister in law s brother Edward. They had to move into their distant relatives the Middleton s family. Their house wasn t anything special and lived in a small town. The other characters were dressed in typical mid 90 s England wardrobe with lots of colors and pants. The scenery of the play was based on the screen in the back of the stage. It was changed throughout different scenes. The scene would look like you were in a house, or outside in the valley, or by the ocean. Western Civilization Essay Western Civilization: Beginnings to Present Although Western culture has been defined by both Christian and secular values across the course of time, the West s primary goal is to achieve economic supremacy, using Christian and secular philosophies, as well as colonization and technological innovation as means to achieve this goal. Of the features that define western culture, the most unique is democracy. Originating in ancient Athens, democracy created a sense of pride in one s government which, in later centuries, would evolve into nationalism. As emperor Constantine saw that it would be more beneficial to stop persecuting the Christians and accept them to avoid another civil war, he became a Christian. This was only the start as Christianity spread throughout the European continent and Emperor Theodosius established it as the official religion of Rome in 380. This proved especially beneficial for the empire as it allowed Rome to be governed during its greatest extent. When Rome official fell in 476 to the barbaric tribes of the Germanic region, Christianity was the uniting factor as the chaos of local groups sought to hold power. Out of this developed a complex feudal system comprised of lords, vassals, and serfs along with the power and wealth of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church demanded enormous amounts of money from the people as they sought redemption in times stricken with the Black Death and famine thus allowing the monasteries to emerge as the source of riches and the Church as the largest landholder in all of Europe. As the Church s power grew towards the first millennia, and had sucked the wealth from nearly all of its local citizens, they desired to find the holy land. • 12. Eve s Apology In Defense Of Women By Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum In Eve s Apology in Defense of Women, an excerpt from Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum, Aemilia Lanyer uses biblical illusions such as the story of Eve eating the forbidden fruit, as well as satirical diction to convey a message of unjust attitudes toward the female gender. These attitudes express an imbalanced judgement of women in religious settings, a notion that would continue to be used not only when alluding to religion, but also in other everyday life events. Lanyer, however, uses this satirical language to argue that Eveis only to blame as much as the malecharacters in the story, Adam and Satan. Since being written in 1611, Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum has interested readers of all kinds due to its incredible use of feminist diction in several different poems and paragraphs, all of which are written by a young femaleauthor, Aemilia Lanyer. According to Subjectivity and Women s Poetry in Early Modern England by Lynette McGrath, Lanyer was trying to sway aristocratic dedicatees into a benevolent membership in a women s community by poetically invoking the attractive and idealized discourses of maternity, religion and women s nurturing love for each other (page 211). In Eve s Apology in Defense of Women the reader can recognize this heavy use of religious context to persuade her audience to grasp this idea of building a women s community via the unjust treatment reserved in the very first book of Genesis. • 13. Willy Loman Critical Analysis An individual s ability to foresee into the future can often be regarded as a gift, but this ability can also be a curse. One can either anticipate or fear for the future. Oftentimes, fear motivates individuals to create and achieve a vision of what they desire for the future. In the play, Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, an aging salesman, Willy Loman, struggles to earn a living as well as struggle to maintain his relationship with his family. When an individuals feardictate how they should think and act, this can lead to the inability of the individual to make appropriate life altering decisions. If an individual clings on to their fears they maintain their foresight, however, when one gambles with their fears they may lose their vision for their future and may lead to a desirable outcome. Initially, Willy Loman is revealed to have been abandoned by his father and later on his brother when he first revisits the past, establishing the root of his fears. Willy s abandonment raised multiple questions and issues that he was unable to find the answers to. This event developed his deep insecurity about being well liked and ironically prompted him to abandon his family. Willy s perception towards appearances led him to be unsuccessful in business as well as having disconnected relationships with those around him. The preceding paragraphs were aimed at providing a baseline of knowledge, show that social media provides a wide variety of information, and to establish that its worthy of investigation. At the moment there is a lack of research aimed at determining the impact of the public s use of social media on Agenda setting, and priming. Yet, there has been research regarding social media and mobilization that is quite promising. Thus far, mobilization is where social media has seen its greatest impact. Mobilization is defined as, the process by which candidates, parties, activists and groups induce other people to participate (Rosenstone Hansen, 1993, p. 25). When taking the definition for mobilization into account it is easy to understand why social media has shown promise in this area. • 18. Yellow Dung Fly Breeding Success of male yellow dung fly breeding. Introduction Looking at the yellow dung fly, Scathophaga stercoraria, it is seen that the species experiences sexual dimorphism in the form of both size and colour. This gives changes between the males and females that are specially adapted to give them the best chance of producing offspring. Males are considerably larger than the females and have clearly defining yellow hair along the abdomen, whereas females are smaller and are more of an olive green colour. Copulation for this species occurs on large mammal faeces as it acts as a source of nutrition for larvae once eggs are hatched. The right to breed with a female is highly competitive among yellow dung flies and only the most suited mate or the most opportunistic mate will be able to pass on its sperm. The lymphatic systems function is to filter out pathogens in the blood. Vessels of the lymphatics are a one way system allowing fluids to come in but not to flow out. She obviously learned that facing problems through substance usage is her way to go and to deal with the same, which is completely wrong. In my opinion, as I stated, smoking marijuana does not present a substance abuseproblem, but rather a core for something that became substance abuse later in Jen s life. However, there was an interesting period of pre modern East Asian history that cannot be fully explained by the tribute system. This was the Imjin War of 1592 1598, also known as the greatest international conflict in pre modern East Asia. If pre modern East Asian countries were tributaries under the hegemon that is China, they would not rebel against their hegemon. The fossilwas buried in a permeable sandstone, where groundwater could get in. Since organic material is quickly broken down in water, the soft tissue should have decayed quickly under the conditions. When an animal dies, the soft tissues (skin) decays and disappears over time, while hard tissues (bone) may gradually obtain minerals from the environment and become fossils. Significantly enough however, it has been more than a year since Bisping successfully defended the title against Dan Henderson, as he has dealt with injuries and the possibility of retiring.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nov. 4, you re going to find out, pal. Former longtime welterweight champion St Pierre hasn t fought since UFC 167 in November 2013. It was a close battle against Johny Hendricks, after which he won by decision and promptly stepped away from the UFC. There have been moments where fans thought they might see his return, but none of those were as real as challenging Bisping for the title. There were many rumors circulating about his delay from returning, but the only person who really has the answers is St Pierre himself. St Pierre won 12 straight fights from 2007 to 2013, a time in which he absolutely ruled the welterweight division. The only two losses on his record, to Matt Hughes and Matt Serra, he avenged in convincing fashion. Aside Hughes and Serra, the 36 year old has defeated high profile names such as Nick Diaz, BJ Penn and Carlos Condit. How he will perform after a four year layoff against a bigger fighter at a heavier weight is the biggest question. No one in the middleweight division, including Bisping, seems to think that St Pierre will defend the title if he wins. St Pierre cleared up those thoughts to the MMA Hour in August. In addition the company can use profit maximization and marginal revenue to help make decisions (Douglas, 2012). This paper will analyze two different scenarios and use various methods to help them make the decisions at hand. The first scenario will analyze a pizza company. From nursing models, to concepts, to evidence based practices that have stemmed from theories, nursing care advances have come a long way. Theories have been the fundaments of nursing to help nurses provide efficient care through structure , unity , assessing, planning, and implementing interventions (White Zaccagnini, 2014).This paper will discuss how theories have guided patient centered care in helping decrease infections in cancer who have central lines that developed chemotherapy induced neutropenia. There have been many advances in oncology care; unfortunately infections from healthcare settings and the community are a major cause of hospitalizations and death in patients receiving chemotherapy treatment via central lines. As healthcare providers, preventing infection with patients who develop chemotherapy induced neutropenia can significantly decrease mortality and morbidity for patients with cancer (Bush, Davis, Friese, Gillespie, Nirenberg, Rice, 2009). Oncology nurses play a vital role in educating other healthcare providers, patients and family members, on chemotherapy side effect with patients who are neutropenic, especially handling the central line. Literary Elements In The Mysterious Stranger By Mark Twain Mark Twain s The Mysterious Stranger is a novella featuring the experiences three young boys have with a supernatural creature named Satan. Mark Twain, whose writings had begun to reflect the darkness that resided in his mind, attempted several versions of the story and died before it was finished. His editors took over and wrote the rest before it was finally published in 1916. Possessing literary elements of strong narrativestructure, unique setting, complex characterization and dark romanticism, this narrative made for an engrossing and peculiar account of Satan. Coli ) Question 1 In the past scientist have used the bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli) in Synthetic Biology to allow the bacterial species to recognise and respond to light frequencies providing greater knowledge of complex biological systems (Levskaya et al. 2005). E. coli is a suitable chassis to express Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) as the bacteria s plasmid helps to establish GFP (Chavshin et al. 2013). The bacterial plasmid is a maltose binding protein that helps E. coli and GFP fuse together and allows for detection of gene expression and controlling internal environments (Feilmeier et al. 2000). As GFP is a useful biological indicator due to its fluorescent structure (Mazzola et al. 2005) and through the ability of E. coli responding to light, GFP is easily expressed through the process of light stimulation (Lee, J et al. 2013). Through the unique structure and functions found within E. coli, it allows for successful expression of GFP making E. coli a suitable base organism. Question 2 Jellyfish (Aequorea victoria) naturally produce GFP (Zupen et al. 2004) allowing for extraction of the organisms genes and protein to engineer a bacteria that can produce GFP. Scientists are able to blind a bacterial species for example E. coli with GFP by cloning the genes found within jellyfish that produce Green Florescent Protein and insert it into a chosen bacterial species (Zupen et al. 2004). The only things she was perceived as capable of were running the home, raising the children and looking pretty. This was a common stereotype for women in the 1880 s. She succeeds, although she ends up hurting her children and family in the process. In today s society, many women are in a situation similar to Nora s. Although many people have accepted women as being equal, there are still those in modern America who are doing their best to suppress the feminist revolution. Torvald is an example of men who are only interested in their appearance and the amount of control they have over a person. These our the men that are holding society down by not caring about the feelings of others. But Torvald is not the only guilty party. Nora, although very submissive, is also very manipulative. She makes Torvald think he is much smarter and stronger, but in reality, she thinks herself to be quite crafty as far as getting what she wants. Those with autism are highly sensitive to sight, sound, as well as touch and this can make it difficult for individuals on the spectrum to function within an enclosed space. Finding the right balance is key when designing an autistic friendly space, as autistic individuals can have a strong aversion to change. Having too flexible of an environment can invoke fear if the environment is always changing. Techniques such as irrigation, intercropping, and crop rotation have progressively increased efficiency in agriculture, maintaining the potential growth for global agribusiness. However, over the last couple of centuries the industrialization of farming techniques and a growing population saw the shift into conventional farming methods. The shift created major problems of economic instability, climate change and pressures from farms to produce greater yields. The use of conventional farming leaves the rural land eroded and lifeless because the farmers continuously put high input of energy, synthetic chemicals, and genetically modified organisms to just keep on producing a high quaintly crop. The farmers have now found themselves locked in an everlasting cycle of loans and debt. Therefor the influence of history in time changed the dynamics of farming in not sustaining agribusiness, but due to these past events as a world we are now starting to adopt sustainable farming practices. • 56. Physicality and Emotional Attachment in Shakespeare s... Physicality and Emotional Attachment in Shakespeare s Sonnet 46 In Sonnet 46 of his works about the blond young man, William Shakespeare presents a unique view on the classic debate about physical lust versus emotional love. The poet struggles to decide if his feelings are based upon superficial desire and infatuation, represented by the eye (1), or true love independent of the physical world, symbolized by the heart (1). With a deft movement from violent imagery in the first two lines to the civilized language of law, Shakespeare dismisses the commonly accepted view of a battle between the eye and the heart. The diction of warfare denotes two very separate alien sides clashing in destructive confrontation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He even chooses to modify war (1) with the word mortal (1), signifying a conflict to the death with no possibility for reconciliation or pacification. But in the next line he contradicts himself. Though the poet continues to utilize martial imagery such as conquest (2), his choice of verbs subtly changes the meaning. [D]ivide (2) suggests that both parties in the conflict will receive some portion of the prize, an unlikely occurrence if the eye and heart are truly in mortal war (1). Shakespeare underscores this change in direction by substituting a trochee for the standard iamb as the initial foot of the line. Already, the poet is shifting focus away from the idea of warfare and onto the image of a courtroom. The second quatrain completes that movement and establishes equality between the two sides. Words of violence are conspicuously absent from this point on in the poem, replaced by legal vocabulary, such as plead (5), deny (7), and lies (8). No longer bitter enemies, the eye and the heart become the plaintiff and the defendant (7) in a civil dispute over the possession of Shakespeare s love. The diction in this section of the poem also serves to contradict the traditional negative connotations of infatuation. Physical attraction is often portrayed as course or unclean, but Shakespeare disagrees. He describes eyes, the tangible representation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Steven Spielberg And Schindler s List Comparison Can t I Be Both? The career of Steven Spielberg has been vast. Spanning five decades, he has crossed genres with more success than most of his contemporaries. In the grand scheme of cinema I believe that those who are drawn to his masterful work can be categorized into two groups. This partition between the two revolves around his seminal classic Schindler s List and separates his career into two parts. While his films, early and recent alike, follow common themes; there is also a subtle divide. These themes ranging from the lost boy to obsessions to family issues have been orchestrated throughout the majority of his films. For the purpose of this essay let s call them Pre 93 and Post 93: the former being prior to 1993 and Schindler s List, the latter being everything 1993 and on. The aforementioned themes, along with significant moments within the director s personal life, paint a picture of a man evolving within his work.
