Tax Section 311 Taxability of a Corporation on Dividends
A corporation that distributes property that has appreciated in value must recognize
a gain at the time of distribution. The corporation is treated as if it had sold the
property. The gain equals the property s fair market value less its adjusted basis.
Code Sec. (b). However, the corporation does not recognize a loss if the property had
declined in value. Also, the corporationrecognizes no gain or loss if t distributes its
own stock rights to its shareholders. Code Sec. (a). The character of the recognized
gain depends on the property distributed; thus it may be ordinary income, capital
gain, or Section 1231 gain.
An example illustrating this section was the Tax Court, deciding in favor of the IRS,
held in Pope Talbot, Inc., v. Com,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Tax Court, per Judge Ruwe, issued an order on May 8, 1995, denying Pope
Talbot s motion and granting the IRS s motion. The court s opinion characterized the
issue before it as one of first impression, and found resort to the legislative history of
the statute necessary since the court was unable to achieve...certainty based on the
language of the statute. After reviewing the legislative history of IRC Sec. 311, the
court observed the following: It is apparent that the purpose underlying IRC Sec.
311(d) was to tax the appreciation in value that occurred while the corporation held
the property and to prevent a corporation from avoiding tax on the inherent gain by
distributing such property to its shareholders...It follows that we must focus on the
value of the Washington properties as owned by petitioner and value them as if
petitioner had sold them at fair market value at the time of distribution.
The court also remarked that theoretically the partnership could have sold the
property at fair market value and then distributed the proceeds. If this had been done,
the court continued, the shareholders would then have been able to realize a
proportionate share of the full FMV of the property distributed.
The court found unpersuasive Pope Talbot s argument that the plain meaning of IRC
Sec. 311(d) mandated that distributions of property to shareholders be valued by
Rational Choice Theory as a Deterant to Crime Essay
Written Assignment 1 (Due October 1st )
Rational choice theories are among the fastest growing theories in social science
today. Many sociologists and political scientists defend the claim that rational choice
theory can provide the basis for a unified and comprehensive theory of social
behavior. What distinguishes rational choice theory from other forms of theory is
that it denies the existence of any kinds of action other than the purely rational and
calculative. All social action can be seen as rationally motivated, as instrumental
action, however much of it may appear to be irrational or non rational. I believe that
the Rational Choice Theory would be most beneficial in the reduction or control of
crime. According to the Rational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People will engage in criminal and deviant activities if they do not fear apprehension
and punishment. Norms, laws, and enforcement are to be designed and implemented
to produce and maintain the image that negative and disruptive behaviors will receive
attention and punishment. Although specific individuals become the object of
enforcement activities, general deterrence theory focuses on reducing the probability
of deviance in the general population. Examples of control activities reflecting the
concerns of this concept include: Drunk driving crackdowns, special gang related
crime task forces and police units, publication and highly visible notices of laws and
policies. General deterrence strategies focus on future behaviors, preventing
individuals from engaging in crime or deviant by impacting their rational decision
making process. Specific deterrence focuses on punishing known deviants in order to
prevent them from ever again violating the specific norms they have broken. Through
the rational use of punishment as a negative sanction, problematic behavior can be
cut down dramatically. Some examples are: shock sentencing, corporal punishment,
mandatory arrests for certain behaviors. Specific deterrence strategies, focuses on

An Article on Rapid Urbanization
Rapid Urbanization
Comparative Governments Politics
This article is on Rapid Urbanization, by Jennifer Weeks, explains how cities around
the world are quickly growing especially in the slums. It discusses what brings
people to city in the first place and how that goes into the affect of pollution in the
cities. The article also asks us questions like, Does urbanization make people better
off? , Should governments limit migration to cities? , and Can we make large cities
greener? . The main reason that people are moving into the cities all across the world
is for the work that is offered in them. Many people think that moving to the city will
solve any issues with money and they hope for better incomes with all the
opportunity that the city can offer. Often people are fleeing desperate economic
conditions, says David Bloom, a professor of economics and demography at Harvard
University s School of Public Health (Weeks 185). Many people realize that moving
to the city does not in fact solve financial issues and so they end up packing into a
house or a shack in the slums with others, in other words, living in poverty. The
article mentions that when nations attract foreign investment they in turn create more
jobs, factory jobs, that bring people to city who leave the farming and agriculture
behind them. This started happening in the nineteenth century, and the cities that
were really affected by it were those of developing countries. Then during the

Anthropogenic Carbon Dioxide On The Southern Ocean
Essay
Anthropogenic Carbon Dioxide Uptake and Physical Transport Mechanisms in the
Southern Ocean
Introduction
One third of the carbon dioxide (CO2) that is in the atmosphere as a result of
human activity has been absorbed by oceans where it can remain as carbon for tens
to hundreds of years (Ma et al., 2015). Anthropogenic CO2 (ACO2) primarily enters
the ocean though differences in partial pressure between the atmosphere and ocean
boundary, although uptake by marine organisms is also a significant dissolved
carbon contributor (Millero, 1995). Once the ACO2 is dissolved into seawater
however, the path it takes from dissolution to sequestration is less clear. Millero
(1995) found that ACO2 in the ocean is often transported to a different area of the
ocean through physical mechanisms that include wind driven Ekman transport, eddy
fluxes, and lateral transport. Each of these mechanisms contribute to the
transportation of masses of water, and therefore dissolved ACO2, around the
Southern Ocean (Millero, 1995).
Carbon Uptake
Anthropogenic Carbon dioxide is taken up into the ocean in numerous ways, like
non anthropogenic carbon, and ACO2 is considered a component of the total global
CO2 (Millero, 1995). The mechanism of uptake of CO2 is through the differences
in partial pressure between the atmosphere and ocean interface. The flux of CO2
across the atmosphere ocean boundary is largely controlled by the partial pressure of
CO2 in the atmosphere compared to the CO2 in the ocean
Ukraine And The Russian Ukrainian Conflict
The breadbasket of Eastern Europe is having a problem with militants who have
killed and have tortured hundreds of people in the name of freedom. The militants,
Pro Russian rebels native to Ukraine, believe that their actions against the government
are just. Those who believe that the Pro Russian Ukrainian rebels are fighting against
a corrupt, ultranationalist government are right. The Ukrainian citizens need to
understand, however, that the government of Ukraine is the lesser of two evils; the
rebels have committed many more heinous crimes than the government has. The
rebels are also against policies that can benefit all of Europe and Ukraine. Currently,
the Ukrainian people seek to have a stable nation with a self sufficient government...

Unlike the rest of Ukraine, Eastern Ukrainians have received more of a cultural and
linguistic influence from Russia. The Ukrainian people are descended from the
nomadic, free Cossacks. The Cossacks neither loved the tsar not the [Polish] lord
and were a people totally separate from the Russians and Polish (Magosci 19). The
roots of Russia and Ukraine reveal that the name Russia is derived from the word
Kievian Rus. The Kievian Rus were Ukrainian people who had established Kiev, the
capital of the ancient Russian state (ExpatRu). The name Russia was eventually
adopted by Peter the Great many years later. The Russian speaking Ukrainians have
been influenced a lot by Russian culture; they have adopted the language due to the
constant transfer of power between Russia (including the USSR) and other countries.
Due to the lack of this knowledge, the rebels have successfully manipulated the minds
of the Russian speaking citizens into thinking they are ethnic Russians. The support
the rebels show toward Russia has given them protection; Russia already seeks to
expand its territory, so they completely support anything the rebels do. Historically,
Ukrainians and many western Russians are Ukrainian; the arrogance the rebels have
Judicial Misconduct Essay
Founders of the United States of America believed in providing the people of this
great nation with a fair, and impartial judicial system. The basic rights of the people,
which are listed in the Bill of Rights, needed to be respected and protected by the
government. Abraham Lincoln once said Government of the people, by the people,
for the people, shall not perish from the Earth . Every part of the United States
government has a duty to protect the people that gave the government power, and one
organization in particular plays a very large role in this charge. The Judicial System

The primary functions of lower courts consist of processing minor offenses but these
courts will sometimes process felonies as well, without sentencing the defendant.
Major trial courts take the processed felony cases and complete them; in major
courts the defendants who are charged with felony crimes mainly enter a plea of
guilty or not guilty, which then leads to a trial (Neubauer, 2010). The second
component of our dual court system consists of appellate courts. In the U.S. judicial
system, a defendant found guilty in a trial court can normally appeal to a higher
federal court. These federal courts, or appellate courts, review decisions made by
trial courts (Neubauer, 2010). Appellate courts can be on the federal and state level,
but do not hold trials or hear new evidence. These courts consist of a judge, or a
lawyer, or a group of either one, who read the transcript of the trial and whether the
previous decision correctly or incorrectly followed the law (Neubauer, 2010). Similar
to trial courts, the federal government and most states have made two different types
of appellate courts: intermediate, which hear all cases, and supreme courts, which can
pick and choose the cases heard (Neubauer, 2010). Even though there are many
different types of courts within the judicial system of the United States, the role of
the judge stays constant throughout the majority of branches. Judges and their duties
in the courtroom are misunderstood, because of
Power In International Relations Essay
What is Power? It is no dispute that international relations, in both contemporary
times and the past, has always been characterized by power. Relationships between
states are usually characterized by one state having power over the other. In reality,
the international playing field is characterized by a hierarchy of states, their place in
the order depending on the amount of power they possess. Although the existence of
power as a central concept in international relationsis universally accepted, how
power is defined is the subject of many debates. Because there is a multiplicity of
perspectives to be used in looking at international relations such as realism,
liberalism, constructivism, and rationalism, among many others the views on
power can be numerous. Some of the more widely held definitions of power are
that it is the ability to control natural resources. Others would argue that it is a state
s ability to control other states. Moreover, some others would claim that power is
the capacity to control outcomes in the international sphere. Of course, the
perspective or theory that one would subscribe to has a great influence on how one
sees the world. This is because isms , or theories, are lenses to which a scholar could
use to view the world, including international relations, and explain its processes and
the outcomes of these processes. Hence, like in any other subject, the philosophy
taken by an individual has a strong defining influence on the person s
Boeing And Airbus Approach The Aircraft Marketplace
Dominating the commercial aircraft market for decades, Boeing is considered to
be the most highly competitive U.S aerospace industry. U.S. firms manufacture a
wide variety of products for civil and defense purposes and, in 2010, the value of
aerospace industry shipments was estimated at $171 billion, of which civil aircraft
and aircraft parts accounted for over half of all U.S. aerospace shipments. The U.S.
aerospace industry exported nearly $78 billion in products in 2010, of which $67
billion (or 86% of total exports) were civil aircraft, engines, equipment, and parts
(Harrison, 2011). However, its position of influence has lessened in recent years. This
is due to its main competitor, Airbus, who in recent years has made significant...

Second, Airbus, McDonnell Douglas, and Boeing are multi product firms that are
selling several products during most time periods. When Boeing considers lowering
a price of one of its products, this will not only reduce the market share of Airbus s
products, but it might also undercut the sales of Boeing s other products. Boeing may
then lower its prices by less than in a situation when it only sells one product.
In a strategy similar to that of Airbus, Boeing absorbed its largest rival, McDonnell
Douglas, in 1977. Boeing s newest entry into the market is the 787 Dreamliner, a
revolutionary jetliner manufactured with up to 50 percent composition materials and
designed to increase fuel efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The aircraft
has suffered several problems since the first model rolled off the line in 2007, most
notably with the lithium ion battery pack. These issues were resolved in 2013 and
Boeing expects the 787 to be incredibly successful due to new demand for super
efficient airliners, a result of rising global fuel prices. Boeing is the wworld s largest
aerospace company, and the leading manufacturer of commercial jetliners and
military aircraft combined. The company designs and manufactures rotorcraft,
electronic and defense systems, missiles, satellites, launch vehicles and advanced
information and communication systems. They are a major

To prevent competition, we initially only allowed one club to sell during the week.
This year, we made sure that the clubs talked to each other about selling similar
items. As long as the officers of Chinese Club are okay with it, we would allow it,
explained ASB Club Commissioner Chris Ma. The two other clubs talked to us
about selling valentine grams at the same time; we decided that it was okay since
Make A Wish s teddy bears looked different from ours and ABC^2 is donating to
charity, revealed Chi nese Club President Shian Hong. All three clubs allowed the
option of sending the valentine grams anonymously. All grams are being delivered
today during class. I bought a rose for my friend anonymously because I want to
surprise her, said sophomore Jeffrey Hua, just one of the many anonymous
senders. According to Shian, almost all customers send anonymously. While some
students like to send anonymous gifts to their special someone, others buy
valentine grams for friends just to show a little love. I bought a rose for my friend
because she told me she wanted one, said senior Leann Nguyen. However, a slight
drop in sales this year compared to previous years was noted and may be a possible
effect of our country s recent economic struggles, observed Shian. Last year, we
sold 50 grams. But I don t think the number of sales exceeded that of last year s, said
Shian on Chinese Club s sales status. Even then, the Valentine gram sales succeeded

Unit 11 Bridge Building Project
Bridge Building Project
By Maryum Sheikh Hi, my name is Maryum and the bridges that I researched about
are the Golden Gate Bridge, the Batman Bridge, the Auckland Harbor Bridge, the
Bixby Creek Bridge, and the Quebec Bridge.
First, I would like to tell you about the Golden Gate Bridge. I m pretty sure many of
you may know about this bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge and
was built in San Francisco, California in 1937. The Golden Gate Bridge spans or
crosses the Golden Gate strait which is a mile wide and 3 miles long. The weight of
the roadway is hung from 2 cables that pass through two main towers and are fixed in
concrete at each end. Each cable is made of 27,572 strands of wire. There are 80,000
miles of wire in the main cables. These cables help support the bridge because of the
big distance. The bridge also has approximately 1,200,000 total rivets. So my opinion
about the bridge is that it is a very well made bridge and it also has a very good
design.
The second bridge I will be talking about is the Batman Bridge. The Batman Bridge

The Quebec Bridge is a cantilever bridge with the structure of a riveted steel truss.
The Quebec Bridge was built in Quebec City in Canada in 1917. The Quebec
Bridge spans or crosses the Saint Lawrence River. The Quebec Bridge failed twice
and the cost was of 88 lives. The bridge was successfully made in 1917 after the 2
attempts. The Quebec Bridge is 987 m long, 29 m wide, and 104 m high. The
cantilever arms are 177 m long and support a 195 m central structure, for a total
span of 549 m the Quebec Bridge is still the longest cantilever bridge span in the
world. It was the all categories longest span in the world until the Ambassador
Bridge was completed in 1929. It is the easternmost complete crossing of the Saint
Lawrence River. My opinion about the Quebec Bridge is that it is very well made
bridge and is pretty

involved. Three to five percent of all American are affected by ADHD, more often
it is boys than girls. Even though the cause is not clear, there are many disorders
that do not have underlying diseases. Researchers say that genetics may have a
factor but as well as environmental factors can contribute to it. Summary ADD and
ADHD are both labels that describes symptoms. Some symptoms may include:
Often fidgets with hands and feet or squirms in seat Difficulty remaining in seat
when required to do so Easily distracted, doesn t listen to what is being said to them.
Difficulty waiting to take turns, playing quietly, Often blurts out answers, following
instruction, and completing task (Jaquith, 1996) Children may display some or all,
but not limited to the symptoms listed above. Developmental problems that may
occur can be identified, addressed and often eliminated. (Jaquith, 1996) ADHD is a
major public health concern, around 5 million children and adults were diagnosed
with the disorder by the end of the 20th century. (National Institutes of Health, 2000)
ADHD is associated with personality disorders which are not diagnosed in children

Liposuction is a procedure designed to reshape and slim various areas of the body.
During a this procedure, excess fat deposits are removed; thus, improving the
proportion and contours of the patient s body. This procedure is not intended to
replace diet and exercise or to treat obesity. Instead, liposuction is meant to address
areas that are resistant to diet and exercise.
Areas of the Body That Miami s Premiere Plastic Surgeon Can address with
Liposuction
Dr. Sam Gershenbaum is a premier plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Miami who
frequently performs liposuction/liposculpture surgery to assist individuals in
eliminating fat deposits from areas of the body that remain despite a healthy diet and
regular exercise.
Dr. Gershenbaum can use liposuction to address localized fat deposits in the:
Abdomen and chest area Thighs and inner knees Waist and hips Back Buttocks
Upper arms Ankles Calves Cheeks and chin Neck
Dr. Gershenbaum can perform liposuction for his patients in Miami alone or in
conjunction with other procedures. Many of Dr. Gershenbaum s patients choose to
combine liposuction with a breast reduction, a rhytidectomy (facelift) and an
abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).
What Liposuction Cannot Do
Liposuction cannot effectively treat the dimpled skin (cellulite)that is commonly
seen on the hips, thighs and buttocks. In addition, this procedure does not address

Theme Of Survival In Night By Elie Wiesel
I don t know how I survived; I was weak, rather shy; I did nothing to save myself,
Elie Wiesel. The author of Night, Elie Wiesel, wrote this book to tell the story of
what he experienced during the Holocaust. He writes how when he first walked
through the gates of what he soon found out was a concentration camp, he was
immediately separated from his mother and sisters, and moved to a separate line
with his father. He and his father survived the best they could together, until his
father could no longer go on and Elie was left to survive on his own with the rest of
the prisoners. He survived the beatings, harsh weather, hunger, and overall the
concentration camps. He lost his family through the process, but he made it. This
makes it very clear that the theme, survival, is important in the book in order to
show Elie s strength and how he fought to stay alive during the duration of time he
was held in concentration camps. First, the theme survival, is very easily shown in
the text when Elie is hurt very badly by a Kapo. I no longer felt anything except the
lashes of the whip...I had not realized it, but I had fainted. (Wiesel 57 58) Elie Wiesel
had caught Idek, the Kapo in charge of his block, with a Polish girl, and Idek
punished him for it. He called out his number in front of a large group of people,
and ordered him to lay down on a crate. He then whipped Elie twenty five times.
The pain was so unbearable, that Elie had fainted during it, and a group of men came

Pellet Research Paper
A Pellet Stove Is An Efficient And Convenient Way To Add Heat To Your Home
If you re looking for a way to heat a small home or add supplemental heat to a larger
home, then a pellet stove might be the answer. These are more convenient to operate
and more energy efficient than a wood stove, and they can provide warmth more
readily due to an internal fan. Here s some information about getting and using a
pellet stove in your home.
Why A Pellet Stove Is A Good Choice
A pellet stove is more like a small furnace than a fireplace or wood stove. In addition
to having a burn pot, pellet stoves have a thermostat for controlling temperature and
fans for circulating and distributing heat. The pellets are made of compressed wood,
sawdust, or other biofuel. You load them into a hopper and they are slowly added to
the burn pot over the next several hours so you don t ... Show more content on

The efficiency of the stove depends on where you put it and the layout of your house.
Also, you have to consider that the stove should be away from children and
furnishings.
In addition, the stove needs to be set up next to an electrical outlet since the stove
needs power for the circuit board and fans. One solution is to get a pellet stove
insert for an existing fireplace. If you want a free standing pellet stove, then you ll
need to choose a place where you can vent it to the outside.
How To Use A Pellet Stove
To use a pellet stove, you load the pellets into the hopper and then turn the stove on if
it has an automatic ignition. If you buy a stove with manual ignition, you ll have to
get the fire started with a gel or liquid starter that is recommended by the
manufacturer. Once the fire starts, you regulate the temperature with the thermostat,
and shutting off the stove is as easy as turning it
The Social Construction Of Gender Essay
The physical body has been seen as many things both positive and negative. It can
be thought of as the temple which houses the soul or can be seen as entrapping,
like a cage of flesh. More often it seems that the body, especially women s bodies,
are looked at in more complicated ways than the bodies of men. As I grew up, it
began to feel more and more like my body, and the bodies of other women, did not
actually belong to us like we believed. Through my Women s Studies class I have
gained more knowledge on the body as a political object. In this essay I will
examine six different articles with the similar theme of women s bodies, the
expression of those bodies and how by using feminismas a political standpoint they
gain power and ownership of their bodies. The first article is The Social Construction
of Genderby Judith Lorber. In this essay she states that sex and gender is
constructed through the society in which we live and that, Gender is so pervasive
that in our society we assume it is bred into our genes (Lorber, 64). Lorber s article
takes the standpoint that physical gender expression is such an important topic to
individuals because when the conventions of gender are shifted, we feel socially
dislocated (65). An example of this is when people who are not used to gender shifts
encounter a transvestite, or in modern terms a transgenderperson, their perceptions
are disrupted. If someone does not express physical gender normally with their
bodies i.e. a

King Lear Vs A Thousand Acres Analysis
King Lear vs A Thousand Acres
While it may appear that Jane Smiley s A Thousand Acres is nothing but a
modernized interpretation of Shakespeare s King Lear, one can see that below the
surface these two tales are anything but alike. Through Smiley s characters Larry,
Caroline, Ginny and Rose, it is easy to conclude that they contrast their parallels,
Lear, Cordelia, Goneril and Rose, greatly from Shakespeare s play. Among the
multiple themes that make this conclusion possible, the most prominent are the
contrasting themes of relationships, outcomes, character development and
motivations.
At first, Shakespeare portrays King Lear as an arrogant man whose only concern is
himself; Lear has no problem relishing in his title and power as ruler, but has trouble
carrying out the responsibilities of a king and doing good for his people. ... Show

Caroline is portrayed as an intelligent, successful and well put together daughter,
which is more than Cordelia was perceived as. While Caroline was in fact pushed
away due to her not agreeing with her fathers ideas, instead of being seen as the
good daughter, she is envied by her sisters. As for her relationship with her father
Larry, she was more or less forced into caring for him. Due to her ignorance
towards his molestation of Ginny and Rose, Caroline takes in her father and
attempts to protect him from her sisters who she believes are trying to hurt him.
While Rose tries to convince Caroline that Ginny and her are in fact trying to help,
We did everything for you! We saved you from Daddy! (Smiley 244), Caroline
disagrees saying, Did I really have to be saved from Daddy? From my own father?
(Smiley 244). While Caroline is forced to care for her father because her sisters
would not, Cordelia willingly forgave and went with her father. This difference in
relationships only further aid the reader to conclude that Shakespeare and Smiley s
work are not
John Carrol My Boy Life Essay
After reading the short story My Boy Life which is the memoir of John Carroll, I was
from time to time envious of Carroll s life but also relieved that I was not born in the
1800 s. Born just before the war of 1812 in Upper Canada, Carroll s life was very
simple. His prospective future occupations only consisted of a few and were
predetermined from birth. How simple is life when everything is already set in
stone? From the ageof twelve to seventeen, Carroll worked at a tannery and as a
currier. Carroll s job was associated with his father s work, his father being a saddler
and harness maker. Only grinding the bark in the tannery, Carroll s life was consistent
and did not require much effort of having to plan out his future. Sadly, much... Show

Even from a relatively young age, people are more conscious of what is happening
around us as we have grown exceedingly intelligent too clever that our standards of
what we expect from individuals have gone up.
All of these factors make it seem like I have a tougher life than Carroll, but some
aspects are still harder in his life. As he lives his daily life, Carroll, as a boy is
expected to do heavy chores and to earn money for the family. Carroll operated the
harrow, a heavy piece of strong wood in the form of the letter A . He performed
this through the use of two oxen, but even then, it was very wearisome to perform
this necessary but draining work. This would be extraordinary to see in the twenty
first century as the chores are relatively smaller and easier to manage. Generation
after another, humans grew lazy and all the tasks performed before are replaced by
machines that accomplish tasks ranging from the most difficult to the easiest.
Carroll regrettably beat the poor oxen when the heavy harrow jerked, giving him a
great shock to his slender arms. The oxen tried Carroll s patience and as he was
without grace at the time, it often made him lose his temper. Profanities were
thrown at the pitiable unknowing brutes which Carroll still repents even at the age
of seventy. At a young age, it was harder for Carroll to get jobs and less common for
fair payment to be received upon child labour. As you were not treated equally with

This advertisement, intended for publication in American family magazines, is a
print ad manufactured with the goal of supporting the fight against prescription
drug abuse. This advertisement uses a strong visual metaphor, an emotional appeal,
and persuasive techniques to positively sell the idea of anti prescription drug abuse.
The ad uses the visual metaphor of a vending machine to create the subtext of
prescription drugs being easy to access. Vending machines are convenient, widely
available, and a fast, easy, and inexpensive method of delivery. The use of the
vending machine helps the audience understand why prescription drugs are so
widely abused, providing the connection that prescription drugs are everywhere
(your own homes ), inexpensive ( $Free at home ), and very accessible, like products
from vending... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the surrounding products in the vending machine are locked in by the
circles commonly found in vending machines as a physical barrier to prevent
products from falling. However, the pill bottle is not obstructed in any way. This
represents the lack of barriers (such as unaccessibility or high cost) preventing the
abuse of prescription drugs. Additionally, the ad symbolically uses the text D1,
labeling commonly found on vending machines. In America, the place of
publication, prescription drugs are now considered the top drug related danger to
teenagers, the most common abusers. Rearranged, this becomes Danger #1, or D1.
In combination, this visual metaphor of a vending machine provides to the audience
the knowledge that prescription drugs are widely accessed and abused. The ad uses
an emotional appeal to create a response in the audience of parents to this idea. The
ad asks a question and supplies the vague answer, easier than you think, creating a
sense of unease and the implication that the audience is wrong. This pushes the
audience to reconsider their viewpoint on the
Cheesecake Factory Standards
The standards portion of the cheesecake factory s code of conduct is essential. This
is because the standards set the permitted prospects for the members and the
company. It also offers procedure on how the officers of the company, the directors
and also the interactions of the employees (Ferrell, 2012). The interactions of the
employees can be both horizontal and vertical in the organization. The core element
of the code of conduct in an organisation is honesty, and therefore, the standards
enables it to be an ethical standard in the cheesecake factory. The inculcated honesty
forms an important link with the clients. This is so because the clients are provided
with the quality services that creates a long lasting trust.

England s Influence On Normandy
Although England s monarchy has played a prominent role throughout its history, its
very first monarch was actually a conqueror from another land. King William began
his journey in Normandy, a region that is current day France. Sometime during the
year of 1028, he was born in Falaise, France to Arlette (also known as Herleva), a
tanner s daughter, and Robert I, the Duke of Normandy. As an illegitimate son of his
father, he was known as William the Bastard among his enemies and critics. He
eventually rose to power through his conquest of England, and all throughout history
his descendants held the English throne. William the Conquerormarried Matilda of
Flanders as an assurance of an alliance, and they had 4 sons, one of which died at an
early age. William s son, Robert, would become the future Duke of Normandy, and

He was also able to persuade the Pope to back him, because the Pope was outraged
that Harold had sworn on his precious holy relics and didn t keep his word. With
the power of holy influence and 700 ships, William set sail towards England to
claim back what was rightfully his. Fortunately for the enraged Duke, England was
already occupied fighting Tostig and another Harold, a Norwegian duke, who
wanted the throne as well. Nevertheless, King Harold was able to meet William s
troops in a final battle which would eventually be known as the Battle of Hastings. In
September 1066, the Normans (France) and the Anglo Saxons (England) finally met
and charged into battle. Due to the inefficiency of warfare during this era, none of
the soldiers could see their leaders, who were feared dead on multiple occasions.
Duke William finally turned the tide of battle by yelling out and rallying his troops,
and the battle was won when King Harold was shot in the eye. At long last, William
the Conqueror had gotten his crown, and was now the ruler of
Dehumanization In America
On August 28, 1963 there was about 250,000 people who gathered in Washington
D.C. to rally against political and social injustices African Americans face at this
time. This rally was meant to not only pressure congress into adopting civil rights
legislation, but to also shed awareness to the continuing injustice even after the
passing of the Emancipation Declaration . On its 53rd anniversary the march is
remembered for the final speech, Martin Luther King Jr s, I have a Dream.

One example of this is the Jim Crow laws. They were enacted from 1876 1965.
These laws were both enforced through state and local governments and created
separate but equal accommodations for almost every aspect of life. Some of these
aspects included education reform, barber shops, education, burials, child custody,
military, and buses to name a few. By creating numerous laws that touched aspects
of everyday life, than it was possible to maintain the social norm that was started
years ago: African American are second class citizens. These consequences of these
laws created an etiquette between African Americans and Whites which in term
perpetuated the White power. To illustrate this point, the act of lynching was made
public without any form of punishment. This was because African American were
not protected by the law and most people in power were White. Raper (1933) states,
Lynching served many purposes: it was cheap entertainment; it served as a rallying,
uniting point for whites; it functioned as an ego massage for low income, low status
whites; it was a method of defending white domination and helped stop the fledgling

(f) Assess the view that schools and what takes place within them are the main causes
of social class difference in educational achievement.
The above question is telling us that school and the education system are what
cause social class. Social class is where people have similar positions usually
measures by education, occupation and income. In my essay will include
sociological evidence and theories exploring if social class is due to schools and what
goes on in them.
The first piece of evidence we can use to support the above statement is a Marxist
point of view about education. Bowles and Gintis (71) argue that meritocracy
(your social position is based on your effort and ability) is a myth. He believes that
the educational system works against the interests of the working class. Their
correspondence theory they argued that there were a correspondence between the
social relationships at school to the social relationships at work. An example of this
is schools and work reward on external principals. In school you get rewarded with
certificates, while in work you are paid a wage. This relates to the question because it

Economic Analysis of an Oligopoly Market Structure
1.Introduction
1a. Article Summary
In this article Michael Baker discusses the livelihood of small retailers in a market
subjugated by the financially dominant oligopolies, Woolworths and Coles. While the
small independent retailers in direct competition with Woolworths and Coles provide
some competitive respite for consumers, as they encourage competitive pricing, albeit
predatory pricing, it is clear that Woolworths and Coles control the supermarket
industry in Australia, in the formation of a duopoly. It is evident that Woolworths and
Coles engage in predatory pricing in an attempt to eliminate independent retailers
from the market. This article discusses recent efforts made by the Australian
government and the Australian Competition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Woolworths and Coles would have agreements with farmers to supply exclusively
to them, in exchange for the firm purchasing all of their quality produce.
Woolworths and Coles are also more likely to be able to purchase products,
including fruit and vegetables, for a cheaper price than small, independent sellers,
as they are purchasing in bulk. According to McKenzie (2002) No major supplier,
no matter how big or powerful they are, can afford to be offside, or out of favour,
with Coles or Woolworths .
Economies of scale give Woolworths and Coles an advantage over smaller
retailers because, as a result of their large scale production, they are able to
produce at a lower average cost, allowing them to sell goods to consumers at a
lower price. This competitive pricing eventually forces smaller firms out of the
market, as they are unable to match the predatory pricing, due to a lack of economies
of scale.
Because Woolworths and Coles generally have homogenous products, they rely on
a heavy use of advertising, in order to avoid competitive pricing with each other.
Oligopolies tend to avoid competitive pricing at all costs, as the worst case scenario
of this is a price war, which generally cannot be escaped, resulting in one survivor,
who goes on to become the monopolist.
It is evident that Woolworths and Coles are mutually interdependent, whereby each of
the firms pricing strategies relate to, and depend on, each
Maverick Military Leaders Summary
Classmates, I apologize for the late post. I was waiting on my book to arrive. In
the book Maverick Military Leaders by Robert Harvey he discusses many military
leaders throughout the time period that he refers to the Golden age of the warfare.
Furthermore, after reflecting on the introduction of the book I feel Harvey is
attempting to push the idea of leading men by making them better. At one point
harvey quoted Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery stating: The raw material with
which the general has to deal is men. The same is true in civil life. Managers of
large industrial concerns have not always seemed to me to have understood this
point; they think their raw material is iron ore, or cotton, or rubber not men but
commedities. Nevertheless, you work for the outcome vice for the people you fail
the people. Furthermore, Napoleon realized this. Ergo, he made it his priority to
increase the living standards of his men to improve the morale which lead to a
fighting force of men who were more devoted to him. Harvey states:... Show more

The Pros And Cons Of Single-Sex Education
Single sex education is an old approach that continues to gain momentum in today s
society. The concept has existed in many private schools, but it is a new system of
education for public schools. Single sex education advocates often cite learning
differences as evidence for the benefits of separating male and femalestudents in the
classroom. However, other experts suggest that segregating by sex can increase
genderstereotyping. Essentially, effective teaching depends on the engagement and
excitement of students regarding certain material. While it may be easier for
students at single sex schools to participate in class and succeed academically, the
real world is not composed of one sex. Additionally, co educational schools offer
more diversity and a realistic social ecosystem. However, students may become
distracted by the opposite sex, hindering their academic successes. Single sex
education: the pros and cons by Kristin Stanberry and Research Spotlight on Single
Gender Education are two articles that pinpoint the advantages and disadvantages of
single sex education. Ultimately, single gender education is better than co
educational education because teachers can use techniques geared towards a specific
gender, the educational prospects for girls and boys widen, and distractions are
limited.
Firstly, single gender education is better than co educational education because
teachers are able to use techniques geared towards a specific gender. Recent research

Mosuo Women Summary
I read the article by Schlegel and at first the women seemed very inferior to the men.
The more I read, the more I noticed that the article leaned in a different direction. It
reminded me of the Mosuo. The Hopi women seem as dominant as the Mosuo
women.
The article started out saying that When Hopi Children are born, they re assured a
place within matrilocal household and matrilineal clan (Schlegel 170). Boys... taught
to be companions and helpers (Schlegel 170). Girls, a source of continuously of
household and clan (170). ...women state that You raise up a daughter for yourself,

The wife ...brings her husband into her household to work under the direction of her
father and the ultimate authority of her mother (Schlegel 171). That was very
surprising to me as in the United States of America, the husband is trying to get in
cahoots with his father in law and to respect him to a stronger extent. The mother
has say, of course, but she is not the one that he generally is trying to be obedient
towards. The husband...lives in a house controlled by a female lead (Schlegel
171). The other article in Culture Counts about the Mosuo do not even have a
husband let alone do they generally live with men, which was a big difference. The
article continues on that ...young men not eager to marry (Schlegel 171). Girls
initiate marriage by making...payment for him (Schlegel 171). That was different as
in many societies the men have to make the first move, but this does show that
women are in a dominant position just as the Mosuo. Hopi women appear to be in
an enviable position when...compared to women in male dominant societies
(Schlegel 171). The only weird thing is that they are still vulnerable and need men
in some way as the article states the women ...must have a husband or a son in law
to provide for them (Schlegel 172). It stated that brothers and sisters are equals
which was refreshing because in the beginning of the article it did not sound like it at
first (Schlegel 172). They have many ceremonies that both
Circuit City Business Failure
Circuit City was first established in 1949 under the name of Wards Company in
Richmond, Virginia by Sam Wurtzel. What started out as a little storefront would
later flourish into a national chain of superstores retailing electronics and appliances.
Interesting enough, this retail giant would eventually close its doors and become
known to many as one of American retailings great failures (Romero, 2013, p. 31).
The thought that this small Richmond based retailer would soon become a great
success only to later end up as one of America s great retail failure. Wurtzel was an
entrepreneur from New York. He was on his way to North Carolina on vacation, when
he stopped in Richmond, Virginia to get a haircut. During a conversation between
Wurtzel and the barber, he was told that the first television station had just opened
less than a year ago in Richmond. Wurtzel, being an entrepreneur that he was, saw
this as a great opportunity. During this time, there... Show more content on

Later, Wurtzel decided to expand the business into discount stores (Romero, 2013,
p. 31). Business was flourishing for Wards, that in 1961 the company decided to
expand its business even further by adding discount stores. But, in 1975, taking on
expansion too quickly almost caused the company to file bankruptcy. To prevent
going bankrupt, the company decided to scale back on the number of unprofitable
outlets by closing or selling them. Then in the late 70 s the business began to make
a comeback. It grew rapidly so much so that the company had fifty three superstore

to Hart, Matulich, Rubinsak, Sheffer, Vann, and Vidalon (2012), In 1984, Wards

play Our American Cousin in the Ford Theater. John Wilkes Booth was the one
that shot him. After he shot him he jumped from the balcony and broke his leg. He

audience rushed to help him. Lincoln was slouched over in his chair paralyzed.
Soldiers carried him to a house across the street. The vice president Andrew
Johnson stood by Lincoln bedside until he had died by many other close family and
friends by his side. The first lady and her oldest son laid on a bed overwhelmed with

Saturday Night Fever Research Paper
Normally, when most people think about the 1970s (Avoid broad statements like
this...), one of the first things that comes to mind is music. So much music came out
in that decade, and the majority of it was influential on the time period (What do you
mean by this statement? How was it influential? Again, avoid big, broad statements
like this). One of these styles of music, disco is one of the most well known and
thought of during the time. Because so many people loved disco, there was no
particular demographic and everyone could enjoy the time at the newly popular
discotheques. It was described by Steve D Aquisto as like a cross between outer

Because of the mainstream shift, thanks to Saturday Night Fever. music was
revolutionized forever. Artists such as the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Michael
Jackson and the Village People were all successful disco musicians that changed
music for the better. Each one of those artists, and many more had their albums
played in clubs on the weekend, and everyone would dance to them. A lot of
people did not like this music however. Specifically, there was two groups that
opposed disco music after Saturday Night Fever. One of these groups were the
original members of the underground disco scene. A quote from a review of
Saturday Night Fever by disco historian Dennis Brumm states That movie was
about a group of straight, homophobic, racist, Italian American twentysomethings
in New York who went dancing wearing odd looking clothes and probably too
much aftershave lotion. They looked nothing much like the people I saw or knew
in gay discos. In addition to this, not did disco become a mainstream success due to
this movie, but its soundtrack was also a raging success. The Bee Gees Saturday
Night Fever quickly became the best selling movie soundtrack of all time, as well
as the highest selling pop album, until eclipsed in 1982 by Michael Jackson s
Thriller. After these two things, disco was everywhere in the late 70s. Everything
was disco (Everything?); Disco remixes, disco integration into other genres, and
even more movies. There was another group of people that despised this. These
people hated disco and all it stood for. Many protests to stop disco were held in
major cities around the country, to try and get disco out of the American culture.
The Day the Disco Died occurred on July 12, 1979. This was a campaign held by
the Chicago White Sox, and would be a disco demolition night; everything from
records to anything else disco would be destroyed. This was organised by Steve Dahl,
a former DJ at a radio station which became
A Comparison Of The Atlanta Olympics And The Athens
Olympics
Every four years, billions of people turn on the TV to witness the historical Olympic
Games. Some Games are considered a financial success, while others aren t as lucky.
Each host city s Olympics are unique, but still resemble the tradition of the Games.
The Opening Ceremonies, new records, costs, and the legacy creates differences
between the Atlanta Olympics and the AthensOlympics.
The Olympic Games set in Atlanta, Georgia took place on July 19th to August 4th in
1996. The bid for the 1996 Olympic host city ended up being between Atlanta,
Georgia and Athens, Greece. However, Atlanta would win the bid to host. Atlanta
chose the slogan Come Capture Our Dream to represent the Games. 10,320 athletes
from 197 nations were set to compete at the Olympic Games. The athletes competed
in 271 events in 26 sports. These events were scheduled at 26 different venues around
Atlanta.
Eight years later, Athens, Greece won the bid to host the 2004 Olympic Games. The
Olympics would start on August 13th and end on the 29th. This Olympics was a
little bigger than the Olympics in 1996. Athens chose the slogan Welcome Home to
symbolize that Greece was the birthplace of the Olympics. There were 305 more
athletes that competed totaling up to 10,625 athletes. 201 nations competed in 301
events at 34 different venues. Women s wrestling and women s sabre made their
debut at the Games making the total number of sports increase by two to twenty eight.

social, physical, and strong academic nurturing support from our mother. Our reality
transformed one day in 1980, Big Al (my father) abandoned the four of us for another
family. This was the dominating force that altered my developing personality. With
this new reality, my family was soon evicted and relocated to live with other family

much because of the foundation in which my mother grounded me. Broderick Blewitt

the amygdala influences motivation, emotion, and controls fear responses and
interpretation of nonverbal and/or emotional expressions. The hippocampus plays a

companies that everyone is familiar with. I will be discussing the successful union

the success and failure of these mergers are important because they involve the future
of products that consumers purchase every day and have related to for most of

In fact, Sears has seen a consistent drop in
revenue since 2011 and overall sales have be down since 2006. Even selling off
their Lands End division which was in competition with L.L. Bean and Eddie Bauer
did little in the
way of resolving the problems. Also they have sold off their Sears Hometown as
well as Sears Outlet stores. One thing that I think could have been done to prevent the
problem
was that Sears should have never merged with K Mart. K Mart had declared
bankruptcy three years before and ended up closing a large number of stores.
Secondly, I think
that K marts problem lied with the way they tried to be competitive with the number
of stores they had over anything else. By this I mean that the company should have
followed
the strategy of Wal Mart and Target. Like I mentioned previously, Wal Mart focused
on small town stores and had distribution centers regionally located to those areas.
That
is one way they were able to offer such low prices since they did not have to spend
large sums of money to ship goods from one end of the country to the other. Target
The Symbolism of Masks in Lord of the Flies by William...
Mask
Red, brown, green, blue, colors that surround us everyday, yet somehow the human
fascination of applying them to their face makes them seem all the more fun, and
interesting. This newfound interest could even leak through to the mind beneath,
giving way to a whole new person. In his 1954 novel, Lord of the Flies, William
Golding illustrated this idea in a way that captured the hearts of many and led the
story to fame, concocting a reality that had since resided only in the nightmares of
children. Inventing a world in which masks of paint were not a fun thing you got at
a fair, but a living horror and uncontrollable enemy. Masks are common in our
world. They are worn on holidays and to parties. Nearly everyone can recognize at

We can light up again This ordeal later led to the breaking of Jack and Ralph s
friendship and the destruction of the original tribe. In this instance the face paint gave
Jack the strength to stand up to the chief and shun the responsibilities that he had
signed up for, so to speak.
The painted masks also speared to free the members of the tribe from what could
be considered as appropriate behavior. This can include the lack of self discipline
in fulfilling assigned tasks as well as disobeying rules and the violent nature
adopted in hunting. In spite of the fact that when the boys landed on the island
they were naturally freed from all of the laws of the adult world, they still came
together to form a tribe. Though some saw this as an important step, such as Ralph,
Piggy, Simon and somewhat Jack, many just viewed it as a game to be played
whenever they pleased. After Jack began wearing face paint, many of the younger
children viewed him as a chief and wanted to follow him over Ralph. As they began
following him he, hiding behind the mask, influenced them to do things that they
would normally consider wrong, such as adopting such a violent nature when
hunting. In hunting they fulfilled their basic need for meat, but they quickly began
centering their lives around it, and almost worshiping the hunt through dance and
reenactments. This led them to create a tribe centered on their

Jerry was not only interested in musical arts but he also drew and painted often and

his fifteenth birthday, Jerry Garcia received an electric guitar, his favorite
instrument so far; by this time, Jerry was already playing the banjo and the piano.
Soon after, Jerry joined his first band, the Chords, solidifying his destiny as a

pop music band s role. He has changed the way music is produced, the way music
relates to its listeners, and how the band interacts with its fans. Jerry Garcia was the
renaissance man of the 1960 s singing, writing, and playing many instruments
including the acoustic, bass, and electric guitars, the banjo, and the piano, which was
a revolutionary idea for the time. He and the Grateful Dead worked to successfully
enable the elimination of a record company in the music world. Jerry Garcia and the

styles of music that will continue into modern day. Jerry Garcia is largely responsible
for the revolution in the identity of the music artist, for the increase in popularity of
the live album, for the divergence of many musicians from record companies, and for
the changes in bands touring style and interaction with their

America has people that take care of their community like cleaning up after

Race And Class, Race, And Race
This article discusses the thought and preconceived notions that race is the major
determining factor of the health outcomes of persons living in Baltimore, an urban
area. However, what was found is that the place matters. Furthermore, what I was able
to understand in greater depth is that there are deeply rooted racial issues in the
United Statesof America despite the legislation that has been passed to eliminate such
issues. In addition, what I was able to dissipate was that the researchers were not able
to determine which was more important or prevalent, raceor place in seeking to
accomplish health equity.
In addition, the controversy was is it race and class or race or class . My conclusion is
that it is both. Race is unfortunately reflective of where you live. Despite, the Fair
Discrimination Act of 1964 and several laws both state and federal to prevent
discrimination in housing it still exists. Housing discrimination affects ones access to
activities that can decrease chronic illnesses and the access to good healthcare. I have
some thoughts concerning this statement Racial segregation creates different

populations that did very well economically. For example, Sweet Auburn Avenue in

Influence Of The Aeneid
Aeneid s Influence on Modern Literature Almost every modern movie or text is
influenced by much older pieces of literature. Without these ancient influences, some
of these movies or texts could possibly be different or even nonexistent. The Aeneid
by Virgil has been a political, historical and literary influence to modern day literature.
In Aeneid, the love between Dido and Aeneas serves as a prototype to modern love
stories like Romeo Juliet, Antony and Cleopatra, Tristan Isolde by Richard Wagner,
and Tosca, an opera by Giacomo Puccini, but also serves as a political influence in
literature and left its mark on history. During the time the Aeneid was written in the
20s BCE, the first Roman emperor, Augustus, established his new regime after the
defeat of Antony and Cleopatra (IBTauris.com). The change in regime influenced the
Aeneid, as it both criticized and praised its government. In a time that was ridden
with war and bloodshed, Augusts Caesar brought peace and control to the empire
which led Virgilto celebrate his rule by alluding Aeneas to Augustus (cedarcrest.edu).
According to IBTauris, The Aeneid influenced future epics, both in Latin and modern
European languages, celebrating kings and emperors, or tracing legendary and
historical foundations. For example, Edmund Spenser s The Faerie Queene, a
romance epic which gives poetic form to the ideology of the British Protestant state
under its queen Elizabeth I, is heavily indebted to the Aeneid s influence. As

Analysis Of Augustus Of Prima Porta
Located in the Vatican Museums of Rome is Augustus of Prima Porta. This statue is
approximately 2 meters tall, made of marble, and depicts Augustus Caesar of
Ancient Rome. The statue is estimated to have been made in the first century AD,
and is possibly a replica of an original bronze version of the statue. The artwork was
lost for centuries, and the original artist is unknown and may never be determined. It
is theorized that the artwork was commissioned by Roman emperor Tiberius(42 BCE
37 AD) to give to his mother as a gift. The statue is currently located in the New
Wing of the Vatican Museum in Rome. This branch of the museum was created in
the early 20th century following the return of artwork taken by Napoleon.
Depending on the time of its creation, ranging from 27 BCE to 37 AD the political
system in Rome was an empire ruled by Augustus Caesar or Tiberius Caesar. A work
of this significance would not have been created for an ordinary citizen. Historically,
sculptures in ancient Romebuilt upon previous Classical Greek sculptures. Roman
sculpting however, strived to make their sculptures more realistic and lifelike.
Augustus of Prima Porta embodies this desire for realism in the sculpture. The social
climate at the time was strict and traditional. Ancestry, property, and wealth were
important aspects in the social structure. The technology at the time of the art s
creation had advanced in the Roman empirefrom previous western civilizations.

Pedro Almodovar Auteur
A film that I found to be interesting and entertaining was Volver (2006) by Pedro
Almodovar. Almodovar is a director that received acclimates of being a very
distinct auteur very early in his career. Almodovar s style and influences are
prominent all throughout Volver. I will be discussing Volver and how it has
become a typical icon film of Almodovar s work. Many of Almodovar s film are
reflective of his upbringing. Almodovar said, You can say my films are melodramas,
tragicomedies, comedies or whatever because I used to put everything together and
even change genre within the same sequence and very quickly (Kinder 37). Typically
his films have very distinct aspects in them that vary and is what makes an

Ultimately the death of Paco and the supposed resurrection of Irene s death end up
resolving many issues and proving alternate positive outcomes for Raimunda and her
family. In addition, Almodovar always sets his films in Spain. Although Almodovar
has the liberty to go all over the world and film wherever he wants he chooses not to.
Volveris set in two main places. The main story is set in Madrid. Raimunda lives in
Madrid with her daughter. In addition, Madrid is also where the restaurant that
Raimunda takes over is at. In addition to making Madrid one of the places that
Volver takes place at a small portion of the film also takes place in called La
Mancha, which is also in Spain. Almodovar likes to use places that are familiar to
him. For example, La Manca is a place that is familiar to Almodovar. Furthermore,
Almodovar later moved to Madrid as he grew up in order to pursue his film career
although the local film school had just shut down. Volver plot was first mentioned
in one of Almodovar s earlier films called The Flower of My Secret, in which it
was mentioned as a novel which is rejected for publication but it is later stolen to
form a screenplay of a film called The Freezer. Almodovar likes to mention himself
in different aspects. In addition in The Flower of My secret the main character
writes many books under a pseudonym and Almodovar also had a
Black Panther Party Research Paper
The Black Panther Party (BPP) was a group created in 1966. The group s purpose
was to teach African Americans to protect themselves from police brutality and
sought to bring about social change. The group worked for change by employing
violent tactics like marching on streets while toting guns ( Black Panther Party:
Platform ). However, the violence condoned by the BPP was not supported by the
government and authorities. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had a
program called the Counter Intelligence Program (also known by its portmanteau
COINTELPRO) that worked to neutralize the Black Panther Party. The definition of
neutralize, according to Merriam Webster Dictionary, is to stop someone or

COINTELPRO was a secret program of the FBI that targeted groups, usually civil
rights groups, that the FBI felt were in dangerous activities (Gilman). They did this
in secret because Hoover felt that past court decisions made it impossible to
control them by nonsecret, legal means and he firmly felt the groups needed to be
stopped(Gilman). COINTELPRO was created in 1956 to target the Communist
Party of the United States. When the United States entered the Vietnam War, many
anti war groups were established and caught the attention of the FBI. It was the
FBI s job to protect the US from these groups, and they did this by using
COINTELPRO methods (Lerner). Hoover also used COINTELPRO to target
groups that participated in dangerous political activities, mainly civil rights groups.
Hoover started to think of the Black Panther Party as a threat around 1967 because
they were thought to be political radicals ( Hoover ). It was at this time that Hoover
started using COINTELPRO to disrupt the Black Panther
Politics And Politics In Aristophanes In The Frogs
Aristophanes in The Frogs satirizes politics and political leaders of Athens. During
fifth century there was direct democracy in Athens. The democratic government of
Athens rested on three main institutions, and a few others of lesser importance. The
three pillars of democracy were: the Assembly of the Demos, the Council of 500, and
the People s Court. On the other hand, this is a democracywithout equality. The
Assembly is basically gathering of Athenian male citizens to vote for law. At Athens
politics was a kind of communication between the classes; for this reason the primary
political skill was rhetoric. Politics was carried on by constantreference from the few
to the many. The model Athenian political situation is a rhetorical contest... Show

It explains why so many plays turn, like the Frogs, on a formal debate. The situation
of the play affects its internal constitution. As drama is analogous to politics, so the
dramatic action is assimilated to political action. For the Athenian audience, the fully
expressive mode is competitive debate.
The Frogs contains the largest number of references to the poet s function as an
adviser. The world of Aristophanescomedies is mainly one of fantasy, where free
men carry private peaces in wineskins or fly to Zeus on a dungbeetle, women take
control of the state, and a slave rides down to Hades on a donkey(18). But
Aristophanes focus in The Frogs is on contemporary politics of real world. The
purpose of The Frogs is to bring reform in Athenian society by satirizing
contemporary politics and political leaders.
Aristophanes gave an advice in the parbasis of The Frogs. This teaching comes most
frequently in the parabasis, where the chorus sometimes speaks in the voice of the
poet producer.
It is right and just for our sacred chorus to advise and teach what s good for the
The Impact Of Handedness On Health Related Outcomes
For...
What genes (or classes of genes) and what environmental factors have been implicated
and how might they mediate this biological effect? Discuss how handedness may be
related to health related outcomes for individuals and discuss how genetic and
environmental influences might mediate these effects.
Introduction
Handedness is a complex phenotype of humans in which individuals have a
preference or advantage for use of a hand. Handedness is a not a discrete trait, but
continuous. Right handedness is accepted as normal over left handedness. There are
four types of handedness (left handedness, right handedness, mixed handedness,
where one hand is favoured for some tasks and the other hand for different tasks,
and, ambidexterity where each hand is equally strong) however, handedness is a
continuum so individuals can fall within a range of different degrees of handedness.
Left handedness is less common than right handedness, with only approximately
10% of people being left handed (Hardyck Petrinovich 1977). Left handedness can
be further divided in to natural left handedness, where a person whose handedness is
a result of genetic and cultural factors, and pathological left handedness caused by
early damage to the left hemisphere of the brain.
Handedness is first demonstrated between 9 10 weeks gestation, where the
developing embryo begins to exhibit single arm movements (Hepper, McCartney,
Shannon 1998). Although some elements of handedness develop in the embryo, there

Gender Roles In Run Lola Run
The movie that I am going to be writing about is called Run Lola Run directed and
written by Tom Tykwer, released in 1998. This movie is about a girl, Lola, who has
to save her boyfriend, Manni, from the mob by getting 100,000 marks to him in
twenty minutes and is about her efforts to get to him in three separate runs. The topic
that I am going to focus on is the representation of genderin Run Lola Run compared
to more typical representations in other movies. The four main topics that I am
going to discuss are the history of gender representation, a look back at how gender
is portrayed in movies in the past, gender in genre and with character, which is
looking at different characters that broke or follow typical gender representation and

As earlier talked about with Disney movies the more current ones released, Brave
and Frozen, focus more on the heroine saving herself rather than waiting to be
saved by someone else. This shift towards more self sufficient and strong women
characters is doing wonders as the Disney princesses are known to young girls
worldwide as role models and the addition of some who can fight for themselves is
a welcome change. This quote, The focus on the relationship between Anna and
Elsa, not about finding a man, as a welcome and refreshing development (4) from
the Staff at KPopStars, a movie and entertainment reviewer site, talks about the state
of the Disney line up of movies before these two came out and how the new releases
are a welcome change to the formula. The main focus of the previous movies has not
been on how they are growing as people, more about how they could marry the prince
charming at the end of the movie. Not only Disney movies however have been
changing towards better gender representation, more movies have recently been
having female main characters and consequently employing the female gaze for the
audience. What this means is that when the main character of a film is a man the
camera employs a male gaze, which is looking at and focusing on what a man would.

Joseph Campbell described an hero as someone who has given his or her life to
something bigger than oneself. In other words an hero has to be brave and
courageous to give up his existence for others to benefit from it. All stories consist
of few common structure found universally in myths, tales and movies. They are
generally known as the hero s journey. The ability to be able to critically analyze it
is what is needed when trying to introduce the hero s journey into a story like this.
Joseph Campbell described the journey of an hero as occurring in a cycle consisting
of three stages from departure where the hero leaves his comfort and enters the
world of the unknown. The second stage which he called the initiation phase where
the hero is subjected to a series of examinations where he must prove himself. The
last phase which is the return where the hero brings the benefit of his struggle back
to his people. This short story might not have exhibited this phases directly because
of its tragic end but in spite of its unorthodox structure the application of the simple
mythological pattern of the hero s adventure is evidenced in the story s tripartite
division into
Supportive Employment
The Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1986 was a revision and extension of the
Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that was then further revised in 1992. The main purpose
of this revision was to define and establish supportive employment as a replacement
for the previous practice of sheltered workshops. Supportive employment is
competitive work in an integrated setting that aligns with the strengths, priorities,
abilities, and interests of individuals being employed. This type of employment
enacted the service of assisting people with disabilities finding, obtaining, and
maintaining employment (King and Olson, 2014). The three main elements of
supportive employment are (1) paid work of more than 20 hours per week; (2)
placement in employment where no more than eight other employees with
disabilities; (3) twice monthly follow along assessment of the employee in their place
of employment (Shafer, Tait, Keen, and Jeisolowski, 1989). The amendment provided
grants to fund supportive employment special projects and programs to help state
agencies establish and implement supportive employment (Shafer et al. 1989). The

This contributed to the increase of vocational education with the goal of being

role in the preparation of clients for work based rehabilitation due to the focus of
occupational therapy. According to the Occupational Therapists in mental health,
school setting, and rehabilitation settings all promote work as an important goal in
the occupational intervention plan (King Olson, 2014). An additional outcome, and
possibly one of the most significant, is the fact that the Rehabilitation Act
Amendments of 1986 initiated the ideas and practices that developed into
Occupational therapists becoming a advocates for policy development to assist

This state has a lot to offer to the tourist such as, two championship teams. One
Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Feedstock In
Anaerobic...
Mixing
The feedstock in an anaerobic digester should be mixed as mixing has many
advantages such as the following (Gerardi, 2003):
Reducing scum and grit build up
Prevents temperature differences occurring throughout the digester
Maintains the chemical and physical equality of the feedstock throughout the digester
Brakes up products and waste such as metabolic waste which would be produced
throughout the feedstock digestion
Minimizing toxicity by braking up toxic materials entering the digester
.
Conclusion for Parameters
From researching the most important parameters it has shown that all parameters
are linked together in turn affecting each other and in turn affecting the AD
efficiency. An AD system should be operated carefully controlled and closely
monitored so to create optimal conditions for the bacteria to grow, these factors
should be considered when designing and operating the digester. For the two main
digestion process mesophilic and thermophilic it was found that different values are
required for certain parameter such as temperature and pH values which depends
mainly on the feedstock used in the AD process, from researching different reports
there are no specific set figures for the values of the parameters as they vary slightly
from report to report and depends on the use and desired outcome of the AD process.
Parameters such as volatile solids, nutrients toxics and carbon to nitrogen ratio show
the importations of monitoring the mixture of feedstock in the digester and feedstock
being fed into the digester ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Some UK Companies are Reluctant to Invest in
Training...
Explain why some UK companies are reluctant to invest in training and development.
Do you consider these reasons to be valid?
The rapid development of technology and in other areas have led companies ability to
replicate products more easily, and the rapidly expansion of the service sector has led
the nature of consumers to demand high quality at the lowest prices. Both of these
highlight the importance of gaining the competitive advantage through the labour
force. A method through which a company could obtain this edge, is through training
and development of their various skills. Its implementation and management concerns
many concepts, esoteric and thus hard to emulate. Training and development can

Training was also seen to enhance job motivation under certain conditions: there was
a practical use to the training and this had been clearly depicted to them (Heyes,
Stuart).
Alternatives to T D are to poach employees from other rivals, or acquire employees
through the expensive recruitment and selection process who has the requisite skills
required premium must be paid.
The former is a large barrier to the T D initiative as the benefits accrue to the
company and the employee. The rival can potentially poach your trained employees.
This is known as the Prisoner s Dilemma, due to which many companies in the UK do
not invest in human resource development (Sisson, Storey). The use of temporary or
outsourced employees will not only be harder to train as they may deemed unworthy
of investment due to their movement ability, they may be not able to provide the
high quality service. Though companies outsourcing their call centres seem to be
providing them the necessary service. But these operators in India cannot replicate
the highly customer orientated service that British call centres can provide i.e.
speaking to Yorkshire people in their own dialects this would require training.
Employees are going to become trained whether the initiative is taken or not as with
time they will gain tacit knowledge and they will pick things up by sitting next to
Nellie over time. This is very inefficient, and a focused
Elon University Experience
College applications were filled out, SATs were taken, and Campbell University
was not even a thought in the back of my brain. It s funny how things work out in
the end. From the very beginning of college searching, Elon University was my top
choice. This university had everything I was looking for: great academic programs,
study abroad opportunities, and a sense of community, at least that s what I believed.
Long story short, I was deferred from Elon until the Spring 2017 semester, taking that
universityout of the picture. The other schools I applied to and was accepted at, in
order of next choice to last choice, were Wofford College, Mars Hill University,
Wingate University, and Campbell University. I was also awarded scholarships...

In February, I received a letter from Campbell, inviting me to apply for more
scholarships, 2 of which were full tuition. At first, I wasn t interested, but with
encouragement from my family, I figured it was worth the shot, although, I still
had no intention of attending Campbell. On the day of the interview, I was given a
tour of the campus, had the opportunity to meet many friendly staff, and was
informed of all the opportunities for students. Throughout the day, I decided that
the only way I would go to Campbell was if I was awarded an additional
scholarship. When I didn t receive the scholarship, I was still set on Wofford. It
wasn t until I spent the weekend at Wofford that I began to have doubts about
attending there. A few days before the enrollment deposit deadline of May 1, I was
faced with the decision of Wofford or Campbell. The school I believed I was going
to for the past several months or the school I never took a glance at. After evaluating
my priorities, I decided that Campbell would be the place for me. I found that
Campbell had many more opportunities for me to practice my faith and live in a
Christian community. I ve already confirmed that I have and will continue to have so
many campus ministry groups and worships to attend, something that I could not
Child Abuse Interview
When a child comes forward about any type of abuse, it could be very hard for
them to speak about the abuse and sometimes a lot of time as passed after the abuse.
For this reason it is vital that the interview process is conducted in a way that does
not cause more trauma to the child. Several steps are needed to have a successful
interviewwith a victim of abuse. A successful interview will help provide the MDT
with information about the abuse, so that the child can get the best resources for
recovery and so that the offender will be prosecuted. At the beginning of the
interview, the interviewer should introduce themselves and discuss expectations and
rules about the interview with the child. The interviewer then will ask the child to
talk about events unrelated to the suspected abuse. The purpose of this is to
encourage the child to be relaxed leading the conversation to the facts of abuse by
developing rapport. Later, the interviewer will help the child to recall the abuse. The
conversation is more of a narrative conversation as opposed to answering direct
questions about the abuse. Open ended questions draw out more accurate
information than the ones that just prompts a child s recognition. The methods of
open ended questions discourage questions with yes or no answers such as: Where
were his clothes ? is an excellent way to ask a... Show more content on

The way children respond to sexual assault depends on their living situation at the
time of the abuse and the relationship to the offender. Under these circumstances, the
child can provide a weak testimony and contribute less evidence than needed to

based on their age. The time frame for an interview should be no more than 35
minutes. Children, Tammy s age can answer questions like who, what, where, when,

  • 2. Tax Section 311 Taxability of a Corporation on Dividends A corporation that distributes property that has appreciated in value must recognize a gain at the time of distribution. The corporation is treated as if it had sold the property. The gain equals the property s fair market value less its adjusted basis. Code Sec. (b). However, the corporation does not recognize a loss if the property had declined in value. Also, the corporationrecognizes no gain or loss if t distributes its own stock rights to its shareholders. Code Sec. (a). The character of the recognized gain depends on the property distributed; thus it may be ordinary income, capital gain, or Section 1231 gain. An example illustrating this section was the Tax Court, deciding in favor of the IRS, held in Pope Talbot, Inc., v. Com,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Tax Court, per Judge Ruwe, issued an order on May 8, 1995, denying Pope Talbot s motion and granting the IRS s motion. The court s opinion characterized the issue before it as one of first impression, and found resort to the legislative history of the statute necessary since the court was unable to achieve...certainty based on the language of the statute. After reviewing the legislative history of IRC Sec. 311, the court observed the following: It is apparent that the purpose underlying IRC Sec. 311(d) was to tax the appreciation in value that occurred while the corporation held the property and to prevent a corporation from avoiding tax on the inherent gain by distributing such property to its shareholders...It follows that we must focus on the value of the Washington properties as owned by petitioner and value them as if petitioner had sold them at fair market value at the time of distribution. The court also remarked that theoretically the partnership could have sold the property at fair market value and then distributed the proceeds. If this had been done, the court continued, the shareholders would then have been able to realize a proportionate share of the full FMV of the property distributed. The court found unpersuasive Pope Talbot s argument that the plain meaning of IRC Sec. 311(d) mandated that distributions of property to shareholders be valued by
  • 3. Rational Choice Theory as a Deterant to Crime Essay Written Assignment 1 (Due October 1st ) Rational choice theories are among the fastest growing theories in social science today. Many sociologists and political scientists defend the claim that rational choice theory can provide the basis for a unified and comprehensive theory of social behavior. What distinguishes rational choice theory from other forms of theory is that it denies the existence of any kinds of action other than the purely rational and calculative. All social action can be seen as rationally motivated, as instrumental action, however much of it may appear to be irrational or non rational. I believe that the Rational Choice Theory would be most beneficial in the reduction or control of crime. According to the Rational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People will engage in criminal and deviant activities if they do not fear apprehension and punishment. Norms, laws, and enforcement are to be designed and implemented to produce and maintain the image that negative and disruptive behaviors will receive attention and punishment. Although specific individuals become the object of enforcement activities, general deterrence theory focuses on reducing the probability of deviance in the general population. Examples of control activities reflecting the concerns of this concept include: Drunk driving crackdowns, special gang related crime task forces and police units, publication and highly visible notices of laws and policies. General deterrence strategies focus on future behaviors, preventing individuals from engaging in crime or deviant by impacting their rational decision making process. Specific deterrence focuses on punishing known deviants in order to prevent them from ever again violating the specific norms they have broken. Through the rational use of punishment as a negative sanction, problematic behavior can be cut down dramatically. Some examples are: shock sentencing, corporal punishment, mandatory arrests for certain behaviors. Specific deterrence strategies, focuses on punishing known deviants in order to prevent them from ever
  • 4. An Article on Rapid Urbanization Rapid Urbanization Comparative Governments Politics This article is on Rapid Urbanization, by Jennifer Weeks, explains how cities around the world are quickly growing especially in the slums. It discusses what brings people to city in the first place and how that goes into the affect of pollution in the cities. The article also asks us questions like, Does urbanization make people better off? , Should governments limit migration to cities? , and Can we make large cities greener? . The main reason that people are moving into the cities all across the world is for the work that is offered in them. Many people think that moving to the city will solve any issues with money and they hope for better incomes with all the opportunity that the city can offer. Often people are fleeing desperate economic conditions, says David Bloom, a professor of economics and demography at Harvard University s School of Public Health (Weeks 185). Many people realize that moving to the city does not in fact solve financial issues and so they end up packing into a house or a shack in the slums with others, in other words, living in poverty. The article mentions that when nations attract foreign investment they in turn create more jobs, factory jobs, that bring people to city who leave the farming and agriculture behind them. This started happening in the nineteenth century, and the cities that were really affected by it were those of developing countries. Then during the twentieth
  • 5. Anthropogenic Carbon Dioxide On The Southern Ocean Essay Anthropogenic Carbon Dioxide Uptake and Physical Transport Mechanisms in the Southern Ocean Introduction One third of the carbon dioxide (CO2) that is in the atmosphere as a result of human activity has been absorbed by oceans where it can remain as carbon for tens to hundreds of years (Ma et al., 2015). Anthropogenic CO2 (ACO2) primarily enters the ocean though differences in partial pressure between the atmosphere and ocean boundary, although uptake by marine organisms is also a significant dissolved carbon contributor (Millero, 1995). Once the ACO2 is dissolved into seawater however, the path it takes from dissolution to sequestration is less clear. Millero (1995) found that ACO2 in the ocean is often transported to a different area of the ocean through physical mechanisms that include wind driven Ekman transport, eddy fluxes, and lateral transport. Each of these mechanisms contribute to the transportation of masses of water, and therefore dissolved ACO2, around the Southern Ocean (Millero, 1995). Carbon Uptake Anthropogenic Carbon dioxide is taken up into the ocean in numerous ways, like non anthropogenic carbon, and ACO2 is considered a component of the total global CO2 (Millero, 1995). The mechanism of uptake of CO2 is through the differences in partial pressure between the atmosphere and ocean interface. The flux of CO2 across the atmosphere ocean boundary is largely controlled by the partial pressure of CO2 in the atmosphere compared to the CO2 in the ocean
  • 6. Ukraine And The Russian Ukrainian Conflict The breadbasket of Eastern Europe is having a problem with militants who have killed and have tortured hundreds of people in the name of freedom. The militants, Pro Russian rebels native to Ukraine, believe that their actions against the government are just. Those who believe that the Pro Russian Ukrainian rebels are fighting against a corrupt, ultranationalist government are right. The Ukrainian citizens need to understand, however, that the government of Ukraine is the lesser of two evils; the rebels have committed many more heinous crimes than the government has. The rebels are also against policies that can benefit all of Europe and Ukraine. Currently, the Ukrainian people seek to have a stable nation with a self sufficient government... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike the rest of Ukraine, Eastern Ukrainians have received more of a cultural and linguistic influence from Russia. The Ukrainian people are descended from the nomadic, free Cossacks. The Cossacks neither loved the tsar not the [Polish] lord and were a people totally separate from the Russians and Polish (Magosci 19). The roots of Russia and Ukraine reveal that the name Russia is derived from the word Kievian Rus. The Kievian Rus were Ukrainian people who had established Kiev, the capital of the ancient Russian state (ExpatRu). The name Russia was eventually adopted by Peter the Great many years later. The Russian speaking Ukrainians have been influenced a lot by Russian culture; they have adopted the language due to the constant transfer of power between Russia (including the USSR) and other countries. Due to the lack of this knowledge, the rebels have successfully manipulated the minds of the Russian speaking citizens into thinking they are ethnic Russians. The support the rebels show toward Russia has given them protection; Russia already seeks to expand its territory, so they completely support anything the rebels do. Historically, Ukrainians and many western Russians are Ukrainian; the arrogance the rebels have
  • 7. Judicial Misconduct Essay Founders of the United States of America believed in providing the people of this great nation with a fair, and impartial judicial system. The basic rights of the people, which are listed in the Bill of Rights, needed to be respected and protected by the government. Abraham Lincoln once said Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth . Every part of the United States government has a duty to protect the people that gave the government power, and one organization in particular plays a very large role in this charge. The Judicial System of the United States America is a complex organization constructed to uphold the authority of the Constitution, and federal law. The judges within the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The primary functions of lower courts consist of processing minor offenses but these courts will sometimes process felonies as well, without sentencing the defendant. Major trial courts take the processed felony cases and complete them; in major courts the defendants who are charged with felony crimes mainly enter a plea of guilty or not guilty, which then leads to a trial (Neubauer, 2010). The second component of our dual court system consists of appellate courts. In the U.S. judicial system, a defendant found guilty in a trial court can normally appeal to a higher federal court. These federal courts, or appellate courts, review decisions made by trial courts (Neubauer, 2010). Appellate courts can be on the federal and state level, but do not hold trials or hear new evidence. These courts consist of a judge, or a lawyer, or a group of either one, who read the transcript of the trial and whether the previous decision correctly or incorrectly followed the law (Neubauer, 2010). Similar to trial courts, the federal government and most states have made two different types of appellate courts: intermediate, which hear all cases, and supreme courts, which can pick and choose the cases heard (Neubauer, 2010). Even though there are many different types of courts within the judicial system of the United States, the role of the judge stays constant throughout the majority of branches. • 8. Power In International Relations Essay What is Power? It is no dispute that international relations, in both contemporary times and the past, has always been characterized by power. Relationships between states are usually characterized by one state having power over the other. In reality, the international playing field is characterized by a hierarchy of states, their place in the order depending on the amount of power they possess. Although the existence of power as a central concept in international relationsis universally accepted, how power is defined is the subject of many debates. Because there is a multiplicity of perspectives to be used in looking at international relations such as realism, liberalism, constructivism, and rationalism, among many others the views on power can be numerous. Some of the more widely held definitions of power are that it is the ability to control natural resources. Others would argue that it is a state s ability to control other states. Moreover, some others would claim that power is the capacity to control outcomes in the international sphere. Of course, the perspective or theory that one would subscribe to has a great influence on how one sees the world. This is because isms , or theories, are lenses to which a scholar could use to view the world, including international relations, and explain its processes and the outcomes of these processes. Hence, like in any other subject, the philosophy taken by an individual has a strong defining influence on the person s

U.S. firms manufacture a wide variety of products for civil and defense purposes and, in 2010, the value of aerospace industry shipments was estimated at $171 billion, of which civil aircraft and aircraft parts accounted for over half of all U.S. aerospace shipments. The U.S. aerospace industry exported nearly $78 billion in products in 2010, of which $67 billion (or 86% of total exports) were civil aircraft, engines, equipment, and parts (Harrison, 2011). Second, Airbus, McDonnell Douglas, and Boeing are multi product firms that are selling several products during most time periods. When Boeing considers lowering a price of one of its products, this will not only reduce the market share of Airbus s products, but it might also undercut the sales of Boeing s other products. Boeing may then lower its prices by less than in a situation when it only sells one product. In a strategy similar to that of Airbus, Boeing absorbed its largest rival, McDonnell Douglas, in 1977. Boeing s newest entry into the market is the 787 Dreamliner, a revolutionary jetliner manufactured with up to 50 percent composition materials and designed to increase fuel efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The aircraft has suffered several problems since the first model rolled off the line in 2007, most notably with the lithium ion battery pack. These issues were resolved in 2013 and Boeing expects the 787 to be incredibly successful due to new demand for super efficient airliners, a result of rising global fuel prices. Unit 11 Bridge Building Project Bridge Building Project By Maryum Sheikh Hi, my name is Maryum and the bridges that I researched about are the Golden Gate Bridge, the Batman Bridge, the Auckland Harbor Bridge, the Bixby Creek Bridge, and the Quebec Bridge. First, I would like to tell you about the Golden Gate Bridge. I m pretty sure many of you may know about this bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge and was built in San Francisco, California in 1937. The Golden Gate Bridge spans or crosses the Golden Gate strait which is a mile wide and 3 miles long. The weight of the roadway is hung from 2 cables that pass through two main towers and are fixed in concrete at each end. Each cable is made of 27,572 strands of wire. There are 80,000 miles of wire in the main cables. These cables help support the bridge because of the big distance. The bridge also has approximately 1,200,000 total rivets. So my opinion about the bridge is that it is a very well made bridge and it also has a very good design. The second bridge I will be talking about is the Batman Bridge. The author of Night, Elie Wiesel, wrote this book to tell the story of what he experienced during the Holocaust. He writes how when he first walked through the gates of what he soon found out was a concentration camp, he was immediately separated from his mother and sisters, and moved to a separate line with his father. He and his father survived the best they could together, until his father could no longer go on and Elie was left to survive on his own with the rest of the prisoners. He survived the beatings, harsh weather, hunger, and overall the concentration camps. He lost his family through the process, but he made it. This makes it very clear that the theme, survival, is important in the book in order to show Elie s strength and how he fought to stay alive during the duration of time he was held in concentration camps. First, the theme survival, is very easily shown in the text when Elie is hurt very badly by a Kapo. I no longer felt anything except the lashes of the whip...I had not realized it, but I had fainted. (Wiesel 57 58) Elie Wiesel had caught Idek, the Kapo in charge of his block, with a Polish girl, and Idek punished him for it. He called out his number in front of a large group of people, and ordered him to lay down on a crate. He then whipped Elie twenty five times. The pain was so unbearable, that Elie had fainted during it, and a group of men came over

Here s some information about getting and using a pellet stove in your home. Why A Pellet Stove Is A Good Choice A pellet stove is more like a small furnace than a fireplace or wood stove. In addition to having a burn pot, pellet stoves have a thermostat for controlling temperature and fans for circulating and distributing heat. One solution is to get a pellet stove insert for an existing fireplace. If you want a free standing pellet stove, then you ll need to choose a place where you can vent it to the outside. How To Use A Pellet Stove To use a pellet stove, you load the pellets into the hopper and then turn the stove on if it has an automatic ignition. It can be thought of as the temple which houses the soul or can be seen as entrapping, like a cage of flesh. More often it seems that the body, especially women s bodies, are looked at in more complicated ways than the bodies of men. As I grew up, it began to feel more and more like my body, and the bodies of other women, did not actually belong to us like we believed. Through my Women s Studies class I have gained more knowledge on the body as a political object. In this essay I will examine six different articles with the similar theme of women s bodies, the expression of those bodies and how by using feminismas a political standpoint they gain power and ownership of their bodies. The first article is The Social Construction of Genderby Judith Lorber. In this essay she states that sex and gender is constructed through the society in which we live and that, Gender is so pervasive that in our society we assume it is bred into our genes (Lorber, 64). Lorber s article takes the standpoint that physical gender expression is such an important topic to individuals because when the conventions of gender are shifted, we feel socially dislocated (65). An example of this is when people who are not used to gender shifts encounter a transvestite, or in modern terms a transgenderperson, their perceptions are disrupted. If someone does not express physical gender normally with their bodies i.e. a

Through Smiley s characters Larry, Caroline, Ginny and Rose, it is easy to conclude that they contrast their parallels, Lear, Cordelia, Goneril and Rose, greatly from Shakespeare s play. Among the multiple themes that make this conclusion possible, the most prominent are the contrasting themes of relationships, outcomes, character development and motivations. As he lives his daily life, Carroll, as a boy is expected to do heavy chores and to earn money for the family. Carroll operated the harrow, a heavy piece of strong wood in the form of the letter A . He performed this through the use of two oxen, but even then, it was very wearisome to perform this necessary but draining work. This would be extraordinary to see in the twenty first century as the chores are relatively smaller and easier to manage. Generation after another, humans grew lazy and all the tasks performed before are replaced by machines that accomplish tasks ranging from the most difficult to the easiest. Carroll regrettably beat the poor oxen when the heavy harrow jerked, giving him a great shock to his slender arms. The oxen tried Carroll s patience and as he was without grace at the time, it often made him lose his temper. Profanities were thrown at the pitiable unknowing brutes which Carroll still repents even at the age of seventy. At a young age, it was harder for Carroll to get jobs and less common for fair payment to be received upon child labour. As you were not treated equally with adults, the pay was mostly bare minimum.

Woolworths and Coles are also more likely to be able to purchase products, including fruit and vegetables, for a cheaper price than small, independent sellers, as they are purchasing in bulk. According to McKenzie (2002) No major supplier, no matter how big or powerful they are, can afford to be offside, or out of favour, with Coles or Woolworths . Economies of scale give Woolworths and Coles an advantage over smaller retailers because, as a result of their large scale production, they are able to produce at a lower average cost, allowing them to sell goods to consumers at a lower price. This competitive pricing eventually forces smaller firms out of the market, as they are unable to match the predatory pricing, due to a lack of economies of scale. Because Woolworths and Coles generally have homogenous products, they rely on a heavy use of advertising, in order to avoid competitive pricing with each other. Oligopolies tend to avoid competitive pricing at all costs, as the worst case scenario of this is a price war, which generally cannot be escaped, resulting in one survivor, who goes on to become the monopolist. However, other experts suggest that segregating by sex can increase genderstereotyping. Essentially, effective teaching depends on the engagement and excitement of students regarding certain material. Artists such as the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Michael Jackson and the Village People were all successful disco musicians that changed music for the better. Each one of those artists, and many more had their albums played in clubs on the weekend, and everyone would dance to them. A lot of people did not like this music however. Specifically, there was two groups that opposed disco music after Saturday Night Fever. One of these groups were the original members of the underground disco scene. A quote from a review of Saturday Night Fever by disco historian Dennis Brumm states That movie was about a group of straight, homophobic, racist, Italian American twentysomethings in New York who went dancing wearing odd looking clothes and probably too much aftershave lotion. They looked nothing much like the people I saw or knew in gay discos. In addition to this, not did disco become a mainstream success due to this movie, but its soundtrack was also a raging success. The Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever quickly became the best selling movie soundtrack of all time, as well as the highest selling pop album, until eclipsed in 1982 by Michael Jackson s Thriller. After these two things, disco was everywhere in the late 70s. Everything was disco (Everything?); Disco remixes, disco integration into other genres, and even more movies. There was another group of people that despised this. These people hated disco and all it stood for. Many protests to stop disco were held in major cities around the country, to try and get disco out of the American culture. The Day the Disco Died occurred on July 12, 1979. This was a campaign held by the Chicago White Sox, and would be a disco demolition night; everything from records to anything else disco would be destroyed. Without these ancient influences, some of these movies or texts could possibly be different or even nonexistent. The Aeneid by Virgil has been a political, historical and literary influence to modern day literature. In Aeneid, the love between Dido and Aeneas serves as a prototype to modern love stories like Romeo Juliet, Antony and Cleopatra, Tristan Isolde by Richard Wagner, and Tosca, an opera by Giacomo Puccini, but also serves as a political influence in literature and left its mark on history. During the time the Aeneid was written in the 20s BCE, the first Roman emperor, Augustus, established his new regime after the defeat of Antony and Cleopatra (IBTauris.com). The change in regime influenced the Aeneid, as it both criticized and praised its government. In a time that was ridden with war and bloodshed, Augusts Caesar brought peace and control to the empire which led Virgilto celebrate his rule by alluding Aeneas to Augustus (cedarcrest.edu). According to IBTauris, The Aeneid influenced future epics, both in Latin and modern European languages, celebrating kings and emperors, or tracing legendary and historical foundations. For example, Edmund Spenser s The Faerie Queene, a romance epic which gives poetic form to the ideology of the British Protestant state under its queen Elizabeth I, is heavily indebted to the Aeneid s influence. What genes (or classes of genes) and what environmental factors have been implicated and how might they mediate this biological effect? Discuss how handedness may be related to health related outcomes for individuals and discuss how genetic and environmental influences might mediate these effects. Introduction Handedness is a complex phenotype of humans in which individuals have a preference or advantage for use of a hand. Handedness is a not a discrete trait, but continuous. Right handedness is accepted as normal over left handedness. There are four types of handedness (left handedness, right handedness, mixed handedness, where one hand is favoured for some tasks and the other hand for different tasks, and, ambidexterity where each hand is equally strong) however, handedness is a continuum so individuals can fall within a range of different degrees of handedness. Left handedness is less common than right handedness, with only approximately 10% of people being left handed (Hardyck Petrinovich 1977). Left handedness can be further divided in to natural left handedness, where a person whose handedness is a result of genetic and cultural factors, and pathological left handedness caused by early damage to the left hemisphere of the brain. The main purpose of this revision was to define and establish supportive employment as a replacement for the previous practice of sheltered workshops. Supportive employment is competitive work in an integrated setting that aligns with the strengths, priorities, abilities, and interests of individuals being employed. This type of employment enacted the service of assisting people with disabilities finding, obtaining, and maintaining employment (King and Olson, 2014). The three main elements of supportive employment are (1) paid work of more than 20 hours per week; (2) placement in employment where no more than eight other employees with disabilities; (3) twice monthly follow along assessment of the employee in their place of employment (Shafer, Tait, Keen, and Jeisolowski, 1989). The amendment provided grants to fund supportive employment special projects and programs to help state agencies establish and implement supportive employment (Shafer et al. 1989). The increase in... Occupational therapy played a vital role in the preparation of clients for work based rehabilitation due to the focus of occupational therapy. According to the Occupational Therapists in mental health, school setting, and rehabilitation settings all promote work as an important goal in the occupational intervention plan (King Olson, 2014). An additional outcome, and possibly one of the most significant, is the fact that the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1986 initiated the ideas and practices that developed into Occupational therapists becoming a advocates for policy development to assist clients with disabilities (King Olson,
  • 51. Good Night Kansas Pros And Cons I am writing on the behalf of the 8th grade student at Monticello Middle School in the explorer s hall. We are writing this because we want a Good Night Kansas book. We want this Good Night Kansas book because we think it would tell people about Kansas. We are wanting Kansas to be better known than it is today. There are about 203,000 kids under five, that won t learn about their home state as fun as reading a fantastic children s book. We want this because many people in the United States think that Kansas is this flat and farm land state, but there is way more than flat land and farm land. Our home state, Kansas, is a whole lot more than farm and flat land. This state has a lot to offer to the tourist such as, two championship teams. One
  • 52. Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Feedstock In Anaerobic... Mixing The feedstock in an anaerobic digester should be mixed as mixing has many advantages such as the following (Gerardi, 2003): Reducing scum and grit build up Prevents temperature differences occurring throughout the digester Maintains the chemical and physical equality of the feedstock throughout the digester Brakes up products and waste such as metabolic waste which would be produced throughout the feedstock digestion Minimizing toxicity by braking up toxic materials entering the digester . Conclusion for Parameters From researching the most important parameters it has shown that all parameters are linked together in turn affecting each other and in turn affecting the AD efficiency. An AD system should be operated carefully controlled and closely monitored so to create optimal conditions for the bacteria to grow, these factors should be considered when designing and operating the digester. For the two main digestion process mesophilic and thermophilic it was found that different values are required for certain parameter such as temperature and pH values which depends mainly on the feedstock used in the AD process, from researching different reports there are no specific set figures for the values of the parameters as they vary slightly from report to report and depends on the use and desired outcome of the AD process. Parameters such as volatile solids, nutrients toxics and carbon to nitrogen ratio show the importations of monitoring the mixture of feedstock in the digester and feedstock being fed into the digester ... • 53. Why Some UK Companies are Reluctant to Invest in Training... Explain why some UK companies are reluctant to invest in training and development. Do you consider these reasons to be valid? The rapid development of technology and in other areas have led companies ability to replicate products more easily, and the rapidly expansion of the service sector has led the nature of consumers to demand high quality at the lowest prices. Both of these highlight the importance of gaining the competitive advantage through the labour force. A method through which a company could obtain this edge, is through training and development of their various skills. Its implementation and management concerns many concepts, esoteric and thus hard to emulate. Training and development can have many benefits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Training was also seen to enhance job motivation under certain conditions: there was a practical use to the training and this had been clearly depicted to them (Heyes, Stuart). Alternatives to T D are to poach employees from other rivals, or acquire employees through the expensive recruitment and selection process who has the requisite skills required premium must be paid. The former is a large barrier to the T D initiative as the benefits accrue to the company and the employee. The rival can potentially poach your trained employees. This is known as the Prisoner s Dilemma, due to which many companies in the UK do not invest in human resource development (Sisson, Storey). The use of temporary or outsourced employees will not only be harder to train as they may deemed unworthy of investment due to their movement ability, they may be not able to provide the high quality service. Though companies outsourcing their call centres seem to be providing them the necessary service. But these operators in India cannot replicate the highly customer orientated service that British call centres can provide i.e. speaking to Yorkshire people in their own dialects this would require training. Employees are going to become trained whether the initiative is taken or not as with time they will gain tacit knowledge and they will pick things up by sitting next to Nellie over time. This is very inefficient, and a focused

It s funny how things work out in the end. From the very beginning of college searching, Elon University was my top choice. This university had everything I was looking for: great academic programs, study abroad opportunities, and a sense of community, at least that s what I believed. Long story short, I was deferred from Elon until the Spring 2017 semester, taking that universityout of the picture. The other schools I applied to and was accepted at, in order of next choice to last choice, were Wofford College, Mars Hill University, Wingate University, and Campbell University. I was also awarded scholarships... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In February, I received a letter from Campbell, inviting me to apply for more scholarships, 2 of which were full tuition. At first, I wasn t interested, but with encouragement from my family, I figured it was worth the shot, although, I still had no intention of attending Campbell. On the day of the interview, I was given a tour of the campus, had the opportunity to meet many friendly staff, and was informed of all the opportunities for students. Throughout the day, I decided that the only way I would go to Campbell was if I was awarded an additional scholarship. When I didn t receive the scholarship, I was still set on Wofford. It wasn t until I spent the weekend at Wofford that I began to have doubts about attending there. A few days before the enrollment deposit deadline of May 1, I was faced with the decision of Wofford or Campbell. The school I believed I was going to for the past several months or the school I never took a glance at. After evaluating my priorities, I decided that Campbell would be the place for me. I found that Campbell had many more opportunities for me to practice my faith and live in a Christian community. I ve already confirmed that I have and will continue to have so many campus ministry groups and worships to attend, something that I could not
  • 55. Child Abuse Interview When a child comes forward about any type of abuse, it could be very hard for them to speak about the abuse and sometimes a lot of time as passed after the abuse. For this reason it is vital that the interview process is conducted in a way that does not cause more trauma to the child. Several steps are needed to have a successful interviewwith a victim of abuse. A successful interview will help provide the MDT with information about the abuse, so that the child can get the best resources for recovery and so that the offender will be prosecuted. At the beginning of the interview, the interviewer should introduce themselves and discuss expectations and rules about the interview with the child. The interviewer then will ask the child to talk about events unrelated to the suspected abuse. The purpose of this is to encourage the child to be relaxed leading the conversation to the facts of abuse by developing rapport. Later, the interviewer will help the child to recall the abuse. The conversation is more of a narrative conversation as opposed to answering direct questions about the abuse. Open ended questions draw out more accurate information than the ones that just prompts a child s recognition. The methods of open ended questions discourage questions with yes or no answers such as: Where were his clothes ? is an excellent way to ask a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way children respond to sexual assault depends on their living situation at the time of the abuse and the relationship to the offender. Under these circumstances, the child can provide a weak testimony and contribute less evidence than needed to make or win a case. Also, a child s understanding of what happened to them will vary based on their age. The time frame for an interview should be no more than 35 minutes. Children, Tammy s age can answer questions like who, what, where, when, the number of incidents, and full details about the
